《Hello, You're Through To Hades, How Can I Help You Today?》
Prologue: Quitting Responsibilities and Japan
"I''m so bored." Hades dramatically said to himself while he lounged back on his throne built out of souls. He had been the keeper of the underworld for as long as he could remember, ever since his brothers betrayed him. However, the ruler of the underworld honestly didn''t care anymore, after all, his power had risen by a considerably substantial amount by handling and processing the souls so often that he vastly outlived his brothers.
A lot of people would assume that cosmos level beings lived for eternity, but they would be wrong. You could only live for eternity if you had an immortality based power or somehow managed to break through the barrier known as the cosmos, which was precisely what Hades had done, he had broken that barrier, but now he was far too bored, despite his incredible power.
"Are you bored too, Cerby?" He cooed towards his pet, the three-headed dog, Cerberus, that was sitting on the ground not too far from Hades''s throne. It just lazily looked at him before barking lightly with its middle head. It then put it''s head back against the floor in a similarly lazy manner.
"Ha-ah...well I guess I''ll just sort this centuries souls, nothing else to do." Hades grumbled with a pout as he started to send themwhere they belonged. He hadn''t had anything interesting to do in the last few weeks. The most recent thing of note was when a soul labelled, Daisuke Tamiko, was summoned by a low-level cosmos level being to be her hero.
"Maybe I should just kill myself and enter the cycle of reincarnation?" He grumbled. All other Divine Level Beings would cringe in shock at this grumble. Hades was unique in the fact that he was the only Divine Level Being that was completely trapped in his duty.
Hades felt 100 percent obliged to do this, as the only world he felt a connection to was Earth and if he suddenly stopped working, then the planet would instantly fall into complete anarchy as all of the souls would roam it without a care in the world, no doubt.
"What''s this?" Hades asked as he raised an eyebrow. One of the souls set to arrive for his processing never arrived at all. Even the hero''s souls make a quick stop in Hades underworld, but for some reason, this one hadn''t.
"Should I take this as a sign? I think I should. If something like this can happen, then why can''t I stop living here and go join the mortals?" Hades had decided. He had decided to quit, and pass his work off to the system. The system was a being that was in charge of everything as far as Hades knew.
To do this, he immediately contacted the system as was his right as a Divine Level Being. The conversation went surprisingly well. For some unknown reason, even the system had experienced a change. It had started to speak instead of just using notifications. This had reignited Hades''s desire to escape and live amongst the mortals.
"Cerby, you''re going to have to make yourself look like an average dog. We''re going to be living like ordinary humans now." Hades said as you could practically feel the new sense of vigour flowing from his aura. He was clearly excited that such a change had been allowed and that he could do something that he wanted to do for once.
Cerberus then stood up in joy and quickly transformed from his hulking three-headed form into a small and carriable grey husky. He was now very fluffy looking.
"Perfect. Now let''s go life in the mortal world. Oh, this is going to be so much fun." Hades said as picked up Cerberus before his appearance also changed. He now had nicely slicked back black hair that flowed down to his waist, and his red horns had receded into his head. He was wearing a standard black suit, and his blue skin turned a pale shade of white. He then immediately disappeared. This story originates from Royal Road. A well-dressed man appeared in the middle of a construction site that was currently unmanned as it was nighttime. He was holding an incredibly cute husky that was constantly wagging its tail. He looked around a bit before quickly teleporting to a nearby and vacant road.
"Well let''s have fun Cerby. Let''s see what Japan has to offer us." He had said with a grin before he started to walk down the road towards the hive of lights in the distance that could only be the central part of the city. He reached the desired area after a roughly 1-hour long walk. Hades wanted to savour the experience.
Walking was also a new thing for Hades as he only needed to teleport to get wherever he wanted to go. Being a friend of the ruler of mana clearly had its benefits as he had no mana restrictions, everything was cost free so long as he stayed chummy with said ruler.
"So I guess I should learn the local language and customs here first." Hades had said to himself before he shut his eyes as he lightly stroked Cerberus''s now fluffy fur. He opened them again after one minute or so. "That''s better. I guess I''d better find a hotel while I wait for the registration bureau to open. There''d be no fun if I just created an ID for myself, now would there, Cerby?" Hades decided as he cooedto his pet to which Cerberus barked lightly.
The pair then made their way to a suitable hotel. It took them a while. Apparently, a lot of hotels in whatever city he was in didn''t like pets, but once they had found one that did, Hades created a small sum of yen to pay for a room for the night.
"Oh I can''t wait to get the day started tomorrow, it''s going to be so much fun!" Hades claimed as he was lying down on the bed. He was acting just like a child in a candy shop, and he was, so to speak. It was his first time interacting with humans in a very long time. He sincerely hoped that he would enjoy himself.
Hades assumed he would as he had already been having an absolute blast. It didn''t take too long for morning to come, so after a quick use of the device known as a shower, Hades made his way to the registration bureau. He could see a lot of people stopping to take photographs of him, which confused him. He apparently couldn''t understand how ridiculously handsome he looked with his natural looks in a suit while he held an adorable husky.
"E-excuse me...m-may I pet your dog?" A small girl of maybe 13 years asked as she approached him. Hades was excited. Very excited. A human. A live person had spoken to him out of her very own will. The attendant at the hotel seemed less than interested in him, but this girl appeared to want to actually speak to him, even if only to stroke Cerberus.
"Of course! Feel free; he loves being pet, don''t you, Cerby?" Hades said in a friendly manner as his eyes shouted for his pet to do it. Cerberus felt used. He felt bitter at the thought of being used as a medium for human contact. He did, however, let the girl pet him. She reached her hand out and started to stroke his luscious fur.
"Waa! He''s so fluffy. Thank you Nii-san!" She happily thanked with a smile before she ran off to continue doing whatever it was she was doing. Hades was positively brimming with joy. He could already tell that he was going to love his new life pretending to be a mortal. After that, he soon reached the bureau. Inside he was asked to leave his pet outside, so he found a bike stand nearby and created a leash when nobody was looking before he tied Cerberus to it.
"I''ll be back in a few minutes Cerby, so behave. Do no screw this up for me by eating someone. Are we clear?" Hades firmly ordered. Cerberus meekly nodded his head. Despite how much he loved eating the foolish mortals of old that invaded Hades''s realm, he wouldn''t just eat anyone. What did his master think of him?
After that, Hades made his way back indoors before lining up. As soon as it was his turn and he had stated his desire for a registration form, he sat down in a nearby booth to complete said form. Hehad been receiving a lot of comments in regards to his good look as a foreigner; he found it all very strange as his perception of beauty was not nearly as limited as the humans, but he did try his best to understand.
"Hmm...name? Well, for starters, what''s a surname?" Hades asked himself rhetorically. He had no idea; perhaps he should just use one of his many titles as his last name. He didn''t particularly care, but he had to choose something as it would seem that the box had to be filledin order to complete the registration form. Hades had no idea that he would encounter his first problem so soon after arriving. He was happy at the challenge that it presented to him.
Chapter 1: Mizuki and Room 27B
"Hmm...I guess Pluto will do. It was my most popular title." Hades said to himself as he finished writing his name. He then filled in the rest of the basic details such as age, country of origin, sex, and occupation. He then got up and headed back towards the counter before handing over the piece of paper, however, just before he gave it over, he cast a minor spell on it that made it so that his identity would be created without any issues, or so he hoped.
Hades was under the impression that the humans had lost all of their knowledge of mana thanks to the ruler of all mana deeming the people on this planet to be unworthy of its gifts, but he was allowed to be a little bit anxious, no? This was his highly anticipated vacation. He just wanted everything to go well. The man he had handed his formto then took a moment to look at it.

"Well, everything seems to be in order, Pluto-san. I''ll just stamp this for you then you''ll need to send it away to the labelled address before your identification card is sent to you through the mail." The Japanese man sitting behind the counter said as he grabbed an official looking stamp. Hades breathed a sigh of relief at this. It would seem that his magic had worked.
Hades had no address currently so he planned to just fill it in after he had arranged one. The man then stamped the form before giving it back to Hades and wishing him to experience a pleasant day. Hades then stored the form inside of his suit as he wanted to avoid using his powers whenever possible, so he saw no reason to store the document magically.
As he left the building, he noticed a fairly large congregation of people surrounding the area that he had leftCerberus at before he entered the bureau. Curious as to the cause, he moved closerto the area before he suddenly heard a string of happy barking. A small grey husky then wormed his way past the crowd and jumped into Hades''s arms.
"Who untied you Cerby? Are you the reason behindthis commotion?" Hades asked him fully expecting an answer of some sort. The on-lookers merely watched the scene with warm eyes. All they saw was a concerned owner playfully speaking to his pet.
Before Cerberus could signal an answer, he suddenly shivered a bit as he hid inside of Hades''s suit with only his head poking out of the neck region of the outfit. A small woman of maybe 5''4inches in height who was fairly decent looked and possessed short red hair had pushed her way through the crowd and had stopped directly in front of Hades. She was intensely staring at the fluffy headthat was poking out of his suit.
"Are you that dogs owner?" She asked as her eyes stayed firmly planted on the mentioned animal. Hades was once again excited. He had been spoken to once more! He really had to thank Cerberus some time as it would seem that he was an excellent medium for these kinds of interactions.
"Indeed I am. I''m sorry if he caused any trouble. Cerby isn''t used to new environments yet." Hades said with a smile. Cerberus cringed a little bit with his furry little face. He knew that he was handling everything much better than his master was.
"Cerby? What a cute name...hey...can I buy him from you?" She asked as she started to pull out her purse. She fully expected his answer to be a yes, or so it would seem. Hades took a moment to inspect the woman before he answered her question.
She was short but clearly about 27, maybe 30 years old at a push. She didn''t seem particularly unique except for the fact that she had no problems asking a foreigner if she could buy his dog despite clearly being a Japanese woman. And if the Japanese were known for anything, it was how reserved they could be.
"I''m sorry miss, but I am the only person who could possibly be his owner." Hades only told her the truth. Despite not looking like it, Cerberus was a complete Cosmos Level Being from head to toe with his veryown set of skills and the ability to talk if he so wished. He had made a pact with Hades aeons ago before either of them were anyone of significance to serve him loyally for the rest of his life, which would equate to eternity.
"..Eh? No way. Let me have him!" She exclaimed in defiance as she lunged for Hades''s chest. He just side-stepped ever so lightly to avoid her. At this point, the crowd had dispersed to go about their days as it was a relatively busy city wherever he was. The woman just looked at him dumbly for a moment. You could be reading stolen content. "No way...how did you avoid?" She asked in disbelieve. She was a master at kendo, so her footwork was clearly impressive, but this man? This man''s footwork left even her stunned. She had decided to make a concessionover the fluffy creature.
"Here. My phone number. I''m Mizuki. Call me sometime. I really need to see your pet more often." She said as she handed him a scrap of paper with her number on it before she ran off to hide her embarrassment. She genuinely did want to see Cerberus. However, it was still her first time giving her number to a member of the opposite sex despite the situation.
"How peculiar. Oh well. To the real estate agents next, I think." Hades said to Cerberus as he tried to continue enjoyed his first proper day in Japan. It had takenhim about 15 minutes of walking before he had reached the nearest real estate agency.
Hades brought Cerberus in with him this time and was prepared to use charm magic to allow him to stay if he was told to leave him outside again. As much as he wanted to interact with mortals, he would like to avoid strange people like the previous one. Thankfully the estate agents had no issue with his dog as Cerberus was behaving very well as he still hid inside of Hades''s suit.
"Well, how can I help you, sir?" The estate agent asked after they had agreed to Hades''s request about keeping Cerberus inside of the building. Hades instantly made a couple hundred thousand yen appear in his pocket as he wanted to rent a relatively decent apartment before he started to earn his own money just like the mortals did. He found the concept of money to be very primitive, but he could still see the joy in using it.
"I was thinking about renting an apartment. I was wondering if you could show me some of the ones that would cost approximately100,000 yen per month?" Hades asked as he tried to estimate the salary he would earn. He estimated it to be somewhere between 100,000 to 200,000 yen per month.
The man he had asked quickly entered some numbers and data into the computer he was sitting at before a printer suddenly buzzed. He then got up and walked over to the printer before returning to Hades and handing him a sheet of freshly printed paper.
"This is a list of all the nearby apartments that meet your budget, sir." He explained as he went back to his seat. "Please take your time inspecting it and tell me if any of them catch your eye." He had continued before he turned his attention back to his computer. Hades took a seat in one of the waiting areas for customers and immediately inspected the list for a suitable home.
After ten or so minutes, he finally had decided on one. It was a simple one bedroom apartment that was going at a rate of 76,000 yen per month. It belonged to a much larger complex that the agency had full ownership of. Hades approached the estate agent again after he had made his decision.
"Excuse me. I''ve decided. I''ll take this one, please." Hades politely said. He was then directed to fill out some simple paperwork before handed over two months rent and a deposit up-front. He was then given a tenancy agreement and a set of keys before he was gifted a map that gave him directions to his new home. He then left with Cerberus still inhabiting his suit. Hades then made his way to a nearby computer store to buy a top of the line Laptop.
Hades soon found a shop that specialised in technology; it was called ''Plum''. How curious. Hades couldn''t stop thinking about how peculiar it was to name a store after a type of fruit, but regardless, he still entered and was quickly approached by a saleswoman.
"Hello, sir. Is there anything in specific that you''re looking for today or are you just here to browse?" She politely asked with a customer service smile that clearly screamed ''I am a good employee'' or so Hades thought. He figured that he could learn a lot from her that he could take to his future job endeavours.
The employee simply believed him to be another stupid foreigner businessman who was looking for a phone or laptop. She did find his always moving chest to be somewhat questionable but thought better of asking about it.
"Yes actually. I''m looking for a laptop, preferably a top of the line one. Can you help me with that?" Hades responded to her heavily rehearsed line. She was quite happy. The saleswoman imagined that she would get quite a hefty commission if she did this properly. She immediately entered her professional business mode.
"Of course, sir. Right, this way. We have some of the best laptops available on the market currently." She claimed as she started to lead him to a corner of the store. When she finally stopped leading him to that particular section, Hades noticed that it was full of laptops and he honestly couldn''t tell the difference between them, even if his life depended on it, which greatly worried him although he knew such a situation was highly unlikely.
It would seem that he would have to use this ''internet'' thing to get as much information as he could in the future just in case.
"Lovely, I''ll take the best one please if you don''t mind." Hades said which only made the saleswoman''s smile spread out until it was an entirely formed grin of glee. She immediately found the best laptop. It had a thin, sleek design and was pure black in colour.
It had a whopping price tag of 300,000 yen which Hades didn''t even hesitate to give to her once they had reached a register and she logged into it so she could log her successful sale. Hades then happily left with his new device in hand as he headed towards his new home.
It didn''t take hades long to reach his new home as it was just like the real estate agent had claimed, it was quite close by. He soon saw a large, entirely cream coloured building complex that was about six or so stories high and several hundred meters wide. He quickly found the stairs as he didn''t quite think he was ready for using an elevator just yet.
Hades''s new apartment was on the third floor, room 27B. He soon reached his new home and just as he was unlocking the door, the one right next to his swung open and a familiar face emerged from it.
"Strange woman?" "Dog man?" they said in unison. Hades had met Mizuki once more. It would seem that she was his neighbour.
Chapter 2: Toilet and Tears
"It''s a pleasure to meet you again, Mizuki, was it?" Hades said with the best smile he could pull off. He really wanted to escape the situation. He had absolutely no desire to socialise with this strange creature of a woman. Hades merely wanted to familiarise himself with his new home and search for a few more things on the internet to help build up his common sense and maybe find a job.
"Cerby-chan!" Mizuki practically squealed as she saw the head poking out of Hades''s suit. "How cute! I can''t believe he''s just sitting there and behaving! I need him! GIVE HIM TO ME!" She shouted as she once more lunged towards Hades. Hades once again avoided her with a sidestep. She just blankly looked at her empty hands with a deadpan expression.
"Please don''t ever do that again. As much as I can appreciate your admiration of my friend, I feel very uncomfortable with the way you''re acting. I''ll move house if I have to." Hades threatened her. He didn''t want to erase her existence to fix this issue as that would ultimately defeat the entire purpose of his visit to the mortal world. So he tried to use what little of the local customs he had learnt initially from his arrival to defuse the situation.
"No! Please don''t move! I''ll behave...j-just let me play with Cerby-chan please!" Mizuki pleaded as she began to lightly cry at the prospect of the fluffy object of her one-sided friendship leaving, to probably never return.
Mizuki realised she had acted purely on her emotions but was it really her fault? Few things in existence could dare to even claim that they shared the same level of fluffiness as Cerberus''s fur, or so she believed.
"Well, it''s not my choice to make, Cerby?" Hades asked his pet. Cerberus just looked up at Hades''s face before sending him a glare that just screamed ''erase her you fool''. Upon noticing that Hades would do no such thing, He just sighed with his little furry mouth and snout before weakly nodding. Mizuki was ecstatic. Now she could pet and cuddle and play with her new ''friend'' as much as she wanted.
"You can do as you please with him only twice per week, stress is bad for his fur, and only in my presence or not at all." Hades proclaimed, crushing Mizuki''s dreams of constant playdates. She was saddened by Hades''s addition, but it did make sense. He didn''t know her after all, how could he possibly trust her after only meeting her? Mizuki thought such things as she ignored the fact that she had given a terrible first and second impression to him.
"That''s fine! Can the first time be now? I''m Mizuki Haruhi by the way!" She exclaimed happily after getting over her momentary depression. Hades was surprised at how quickly these humans could adapt.
Maybe he should throw her in a volcano just to see how she would react? He squashed such a thought as he realised he was being immature. He shouldn''t throw his neighbours into active volcanoes, or so he concluded.
"No, I''m busy, come back in two days. I''m Hades Pluto." He ordered her before he finished opening his door and went inside. Mizuki then heard a clicking noise. Apparently, he had locked himself inside, or maybe locked her out?
"Hades Pluto...what a weird name...wait...Hades...Cerby...Cerberus? No way." Haruhi dismissed her absurd conclusions as she went to go shopping for food, as was her original plan before she met the God of fluffiness once more. She was quite happy to have found him again.
However, Mizuki quickly realised that she had basically given her number to an unknown man for a shallow reason and that he didn''t even need it now, but he still had it. She was worried about what to do but first came food. The food was always a top priority.
Inside of room 27B, Hades''s new apartment, he let Cerberus out from his suit before taking a moment to inspect his new humble abode. It was a clean and clearly unfurnished apartment. The floor was entirely wooden except for the bathroom which hosted a tile-based one. There was a basic kitchen and bathroom in the apartment, but besides that, the home was completely devoid of furniture.
"Perfect!" Hades said in a chipper tone. "Now I can act like a human and buy items to fill my new house. I should use this ''internet'' thing to see what kinds of furniture I can purchase to fill my new home." Hades was very excited, so far he had loved almost every minute of his new life in Japan. Almost, but not quite. He was trying his best to repress the memories of his interactions with the woman called Mizuki Haruhi.
"What a strange name. Last I remembered, people over here were called things like Susanoo and Amaterasu. I wonder what changed?" He asked himself as he sat on the toilet and took out his laptop.
The bathroom had a single toilet, a sink and a bathtub in it. Hades had no need to use the toilet, so he thought he might as well use it as a chair for now. What good would it be if he didn''t at least use it somehow?
A problem had occurred. His laptop needed about 4 hours to complete some sort of ''start up'' procedure. Hades was befuddled by this, but he didn''t want to interfere with the device in fears of breaking it. So he decided to go outside and explore a bit. Get familiar with the locals and whatnot.
"Cerby, I''m going out for a walk. You wanna come?" He asked the dog that was laying on the floor of the empty living room/bedroom. He just looked up and shook his head a little bit before resting it back against the floor. Apparently, he was tired mentally from today''s events as Hades knew he wasn''t tired physically, such a thing was impossible.
"I understand, buddy. You rest up; I''ll be back in four hours." Hades said as he made to leave. He then heard a few yips, some sort of response for himself, a farewell perhaps? He then left after locking the door again. Luckily he didn''t meet Haruhi again as he left the compound.
Hades wasn''t quite sure where he wanted to go exactly. He wanted to do something, but what? Maybe he should spend the rest of the money he had created? Hades still had about 60,000 yen in his pocket, and he didn''t really need it. If he needed to pay rent and somehow didn''t have a job despite his vast skill set, then he would only need to make more money.
After having decided to spend his hard created cash, he left for a nearby shopping district that was labelled on the map he had been given at the real estate agency. Hades noticed that while inspecting the map carefully, that the name of the city he was in was called ''Tokyo''. A very odd name as far as he was concerned, but who was he to judge? It was their city, not his.
It took him about 10 minutes to reach the district. Hades thought it might be wise to go back at some point and thank the real estate agent for giving him such a convenient apartment. As far as Hades was concerned, he was gifted the property because he clearly had no real issues with money. Hades had decided to spend the rest of his creations on clothing; he couldn''t regularly walk around in a suit, now could he?If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it.
There were quite a few little stores that were selling ordinary clothes. The whole idea of them sent chills down Hades''s spine. He was so excited to wear what ordinary mortals wore! He couldn''t wait to get his anxious fingers on a few of these such outfits. He quickly approached one of the nearest stores.
"Hello, excuse me, how much are you selling these articles of clothing for?" Hades politely asked. He knew better than just to take them. He would have most certainly done so had he taken an interest in them two days ago.
Thankfully he had scanned for the small amount of cultural knowledge he now had. That was how he had managed to successfully buy the laptop and rent the apartment without simply claiming them as his own property. Hades was apparently learning.
"Want something, Sonny? Well, everything I''ve got up here is 100yen, take what you like then give me the money." The vendor said a little bit too rudely for Hades''s liking, but he quickly forgave the elderly man as the price made him jubilant. If all the stalls were like this, then he could buy hundreds of outfits! This idea nearly had the poor God of the underworld frothing at the mouth.
"You okay, Sonny? Need me to call an ambulance for you?" The senior asked him in worry. He was a bit perplexed at the interest the fancily dressed man had in his wares; then the bugger suddenly started to salivate a worryingly large amount.
The elder clearly didn''t have the time for such a nuisance as he had already pulled out his phone and had started to dial 119, the number that wasforthe fire and ambulance services in Japan.
Hades quickly came back to his sense after hearing the old vendor''s concern.
"Ah, my apologies. I''ll take everything, please." Hades declared after he had gotten a firmer grip on his emotions. He was usually quite good at controlling them but found it exceedingly difficult to do so as he was experiencing far too much fun for a simple Divine Level Being such as himself. The old man just looked at him for a moment.
"If you can take it, and pay for it, then it''s yours, Sonny." He happily said. He had assumed that the strange foreigner was just joking. Hades suddenly dropped an exact amount of 4,000yen just before he started to pick up the clothing articles.
There were exactly 40 different items at the stall, ranging from shoes to sunglasses. The old man was amazing at Hades''s ability to count his things so accurately, but more so at his ridiculous ability to carry items.
¡ãIs he a circus performer?¡ã The elder thought as he and a few nearby shoppers and vendors watching the spectacle that was Hades as he piled up clothes and the other items in his hands, on his shoulders, stuffed them in his suit and even held them in his mouth.
Hades then slowly and carefully walked to a nearby alleyway and shortly afterwards came back out, however, this time he was wearing a pair of regular sandals, cream coloured shorts, a blue and red Hawaiian themed shirt, and he was sporting a pair of black sunglasses.
¡ãI finally look like a normal mortal!¡ã He exclaimed in his head. He could tell that he now looked normal thanks to all of the stares that he was receiving due to his obviously expert level technique as far as blending in went, or so Hades assumed. He then went around the various other clothing stalls before repeating exactly what he just did at the first vendor.
It was quickly reaching the four-hour mark that Hades had set to return by. He could easily tell the time by the position of the stars that only he could see during the daytime as far as Earth was concerned.
Hades made to leave, but just as he was about to exit the marketplace, a familiar person soon made herself known once more.
"Plutos-san?" Haruhi asked. She wasn''t sure because the last time she had seen him, he was wearing a very professional looking suit and not whatever trash he was now adorned with.
Haruhi had just finished her shopping. Shopping was like a sport to Haruhi, she always tried to find the best deals, and that was why she took roughly five hours every trip. She was quite happy because she had only taken just over four hours today.
"Ah, Mizuki...san? Sorry, it''s my first time in Japan for a long time, so forgive me if the way I''m addressing you is incorrect." Hades said in a happy tone. He was still very pleased with how much clothing he had managed to acquire.
Hades had even found something called ''lingerie'' which he found to be very unique, for lack of a better word. He was itching to try wearing it to see just what was so unique about it that had caused the vendor to be so adamant about him buying it. Something about impressing a wife, but Hades was far too absorbed in the design of the clothing to care.
"So it is you, Plutos-san! I almost couldn''t recognise you." Haruhi happy said as she started walking next to him because he was apparently heading home. She wanted to talk more to him in an attempt to worm her way into his life solely so she could get a bigger allowance as far as seeing Cerberus was concerned.
"Please, just Hades is okay. I''m not comfortable being called by my...what was it again...right...surname. And of course, I look far more normal now, no?" Hades said as he smiled. He apparently thought her not recognising him was due to how much he blended in with everyone else.
"O-Of course...Hades...san. Your Japanese is amazing for a foreigner, but it''s a little bit stiff isn''t it?" Haruki asked as she ignored his misconceptions. She had noticed that he spoke in a very olden styled dialogue with only a few words or phrases being more modern.
"Well, the last time I visited this country was a very long time ago after all." Hades vaguely explained. Haruhi looked lost in thought for a moment before visibly deflating as a sad look took shape on her pretty face.
"You and Cerby-chan are only visiting?" She asked in concern. She wanted to cuddle her living plush toy forever, not just for a short while.
"Of course. If not for some recent...changes, I''d almost certainly still be working in my dreadfully boring job. Thankfully I somehow managed to quit that borderline slave labour job. I should be here for a few decades at the very least, or so I would imagine." Hades said which made Haruhi visibly brighten up.
After that, the two continued to walk together as Haruhi tried to small talk him a little bit more. Hades answered all of her questions politely, but she could clearly tell that his mind was elsewhere. Wasn''t she a beautiful 29-year-old woman? He was clearly far older than her, why couldn''t he at least pretend to be interested?
¡ãI wonder what shirt I should wear tomorrow and do I stick with sandals or move on to crocs?¡ã Hades was lost in thought about what to wear tomorrow, or so it would seem.
The two soon reached the apartment complex, and Haruhi walked towards the elevator while Hades made for the stairs. Upon noticing him, Haruhi called out to Hades to ask what on earth he was doing.
"Hades-san. Why aren''t you going to the elevator? It''s a lot of stairs to reach our floor." Haruhi pointed out. She thought that maybe it was a foreigner thing, or perhaps he was a health-nut? She wasn''t quite sure but thought it would be best to ask him just to be certain he knew that he could use the elevator.
Haruhi then realised that he must have walked up and down the first time which horrified her. Stairs were one of the few things that filled the woman with pure dread.
"But I''m not ready to use that yet. I need more time." Hades said in a matter-of-factly manner. He then turned around before walking up the stairs once more. He truly was unprepared for using the elevator anytime soon.
¡ãDoes he have a trauma or something? Maybe he got stuck in one as a kid...¡ã Haruhi thought as she jumped to conclusions. If that truly were the case, Hades would have mentioned it as he was usually quite an honest person, except when it suited him not to be, so perhaps he wasn''t very honest at all?
Haruhi soon reached her room but roughly ten minutes after entered it, she heard a knock at the door. She was quite curious as to who could be knocking for her; perhaps it was a mistake? Haruhi thought as she didn''t really have any friends due to how eccentric she could be so she ignored the door.
A few minutes later she heard it again. She decided to check this time, just in case the rare event of someone actually looking for her had occurred. She was shocked as she opened the door. Hades was standing outside of it while he was holding a laptop and he had tears streaming down his face.
"What happened Hades-san?! Did Cerby run away?!" She asked as she began to mull over the possibility of such a thing happening.
"I don''t know how to work the internet! Teach me!" Hades loudly requested.
Chapter 3: Internet and Application
"You...what?" Haruhi asked Hades in disbelief. She wasn''t quite sure she had heard him correctly. How could he possibly not know how to work the internet?
"I don''t know how to work the internet! Please, teach me. I''ll let you play with Cerby for the rest of the evening in exchange!" Hades exclaimed. He was clearly quite upset and desperate. He had logged into the computer after it had finished its set up procedure but he had no idea which icon he had to click or which setting to change in order to access the miraculous internet he had heard so much about during his cultural scan.
"Please, come in." Haruhi curtly replied. It was an entirely different story when Cerberus was involved, or so it would appear. She had to admit that she found it suspicious that Hades didn''t know how to use the internet.
If that was the case, then how on earth did he get to Japan from where he previously was? A travel agency maybe? Haruhi dismissed these thoughts for now as her current goal was satisfying her neighbour to the best of her ability so she could ultimately play with her self-proclaimed best friend.
Hades quickly made his way into the apartment and found that it was very average looking. Almost too average looking. However, he didn''t have time to ask about this as he quickly took his sandals off before making his way to a sofa. Upon sitting on it, Hades flipped the laptop up before placing it on the nearby coffee table.
"Please, Haruhi. Hurry up; I need you." Hades asked in a rush. He was one step away from biting his nails which were a bad habit Hades had managed to drop several centuries ago, and he would hate to pick it up again. Cerberus would give him hell for it.
Haruhi''s heart shuddered for a moment what Hades said he needed her, but she soon regained control of herself. All he wanted from her was her knowledge of how the internet worked and thankfully Haruhi wasn''t stupid enough to misunderstand the meaning behind Hades''s words.
She soon made her way to sit next to Hades on the safe before taking a look at his laptop. It wasn''t very hard to find the problem.
"Um, hades-san, did you get the wifi password from the manager?" Haruhi asked with disbelief in her voice. It was normal for older people to be slightly less adept with technology. Hades did look to be in his late 30''s after all, but surely there was a limit.
"What''s a ''wifi''? I just want to access the internet!" Hades cried. He was very upset that his first obstacle in his new life was obstructing him from advancing.
Hades would honestly prefer fighting against both of his brothers at the exact same time, even if their water-lighting combo were particularly strong, Hades would face such an attack any day over his current struggles. Too bad they were both dead, and he was too strong for it to be a challenge. It would seem Hades would have to endure a little bit longer until his saviour could solve his problem.
"Ha-ah...just how did you get here from your home country?" Haruhi rhetorically asked while she entered the complex''s wifi password and saved in onto Hades'' computer so it would automatically connect.
"OHH! The cross disappeared from that symbol! Can I use the internet now? Can I?!" Hades excitedly asked. This was clearly a good sign because if anyone knew what they were doing, it would be Haruhi, or so Hades thought. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
"Yes, you can. Now, let''s go to your apartment. Cerby-chan is waiting for me!" Haruhi irresponsibly claimed. She didn''t even realise that she had essentially asked a man to take her home with him.
"Of course! If there is ever anything you need, do not hesitate to request it! Even if you need a country to disappear, then I shall try my best to do so. It would be the least I could do as thanks." Hades morbidly claimed with a smile. He then got up and led the somewhat shaken Haruhi to his apartment.
¡ãThere''s no way he really is Hades from the stories...right?¡ã Haruhi tried to convince herself. It would seem that Hades would have to redouble his hiding efforts. Perhaps wearing crocs tomorrow was indeed the correct choice.
They soon reached Hades''s empty apartment, obviously since it was literally right next door to Haruhi''s.
Hades quickly made his way towards the bathroom, presumably in an attempt to reach his seat, the toilet. Haruhi simply looked around and marvelled at how empty Hades''s apartment was. It truly was a fascinating sight. However, she soon broke out of her stupor as she dove arms first towards her fluffy companion.
Cerberus was flustered. Should he just eat her?
In his moment of hesitation, he had been captured. He was held in a firm embrace, and he could only speculate that his master had offered him in some sort of deal. Betrayal seemed to be a concurrent experience that Cerberus was experiencing.
"Kya! You''re so fluffy Cerby-chan!" Haruhi screeched while she began rolling around on the wooden floor that was Hades''s empty living room and bedroom.
"Hmm, let''s see, Gaggle? What a weird name." Hades said to himself as he found his way to his browser''s homepage. He carefully manoeuvred his fingers to type out the word ''job'' in Japanese. Hades was rather proud as it only took him 15 minutes to do so.
After he had accomplished that, he hit the enter key and was immediately greeted by a wall of while with several blue lines of text on it.
"Hmm, let''s see...do I click on these?" Hades asked himself. He spent roughly 30 more minutes reading the blue text. Hades had completely forgotten about Haruhi, but who could blame? He was doing something very critical to his future right now after all.
Hades had found a row of text that read ''Looking for office staff in Tokyo''. Despite how vague it was, Hades immediately clicked it and only hoped something would happen. He was in Tokyo, and he wanted a nice relaxing job where he could talk to people. An office job sounded like a nice balance of the two to Hades.
He was soon taken to a web page of a small company named Games Inc. It would seem they specialised in games to some degree. What that specialisation was centred around, Hades had no idea.
He was quickly redirected to an application page.
"Oh, this is going to need a lot of concentration." Hades mumbled before he slowly began filling in each box almost as if this application would determine his entire future. Indeed, Hades did see it that way. Even after spending two hours to complete the form meticulously, he went through the effort of enchanting it with magic to make sure his application was taken seriously.
"Ha-ah. Well, now I just need to wait to receive an email it seems." Hades lightly said before he folded up the laptop and stood up. He then quickly moved his way out of the bathroom and into the room Cerberus should be in.
Hades was greeted by a small blob of happiness that quite clearly held a distraught Cerberus in its arms.
"Haruhi-san. I''ll have to ask you to let go of Cerby and leave now. You''ve had plenty of time to play." Hades politely asked the woman curled up on the floor.
"Eh..bu-but..I know! You don''t have a bed, right? Come sleep at my place! I''ll sleep on the sofa, and you can have the bed. Please, just let me play with Cerby-chan more!" Haruhi pleaded. It would seem that Cerberus''s soft fur and cute nature had ensnared the Japanese woman.
"Of course no-...that sound good, let''s go to your apartment immediately." Hades quickly changed his answer when he thought about it. It certainly would look unnatural were he to refuse as humans did indeed seem to sleep. And it would also appear that they usually didn''t do so on the floor, so Hades reasoned that taking up her offer would help decrease the likelihood of his true identity being revealed.
Then again, Hades had somewhat failed at that by using his real name, but who could blame the poor Divine Level Being? It would be rude to assume he kept up with the habits of mortals.
