《Magic and time》


 New Beginning

    I woke after recently dying. Looked around and to my surprise I wasn¡¯t in a world of burning flames and or at a heavenly place. Instead I was in a hallway with plain grey walls, and a door at the end of this hall way. Therefore, I started to walk to this door. I wasn¡¯t afraid to find out what was on the other side but I took a leap of faith.


    Let¡¯s find out what is on the other side. What could be worse than already being dead?


    The door opened.


    ¡°Hello welcome to a new beginning. You may be wondering what I mean, so please first take a seat.¡±


    The person talking was a man in his late 20s and looking quite professional, so I looked around and found the seat he was talking about. It was in front of a desk that you would usually see in a business interview.


    ¡°I was wondering where am I? Is this purgatory or heaven?¡±


    ¡°Well to answer your question. I can say that you are in neither, but if you wanted an answer it is much closer to a purgatory. Here you can make a choice.     ¡°Do can I still keep my memory after being reincarnated?¡±


    ¡°Awe this question. You can keep your memory if you would like, but it comes with some penalties. For instance you keep your memory, but you won¡¯t get a menu like in games or you may start in a worst environment than others, but I guess you can say that depends on your luck too.¡± Smirking while he said that.


    ¡°Ooo there are things like menus? If I reincarnate? Hrmm¡­ how long do I have to decide?¡±


    ¡°Well truth be told you don¡¯t actually have much time. So hurry and pick would you like to be born in a world of swords and magic or a boring world of science?¡±


    ¡°I¡¯ll take the world with magic. Hopefully, my luck will be better than before¡­ being sick in bed all my life and just reading books.¡±


    ¡°Hrmm¡­. I guess your previous life was to great. Well anyways next issue do you want to keep your memory or not?¡±


    ¡°I¡¯ll keep my memories please. I don¡¯t want to forget all the novels I once read. They will be my inspiration.


    ¡°Ok then. Well since you are keeping your memories. Then good luck to you lad, because it means I can¡¯t give you any more details and about your new environment. O ya try not to die to early and enjoy your new life.¡±

 Being Born

    I soon blacked out. When I came to. I started to hear noises, but I couldn¡¯t seem to open my eyes. After trying a couple of times. I was finally able to open my eyes. What I saw was a man and a women. The women was holding me in her arms. The man had red hair with a slim figure. He didn¡¯t look to muscular but had a kind looking face. The women had blue hair and a fierce looking face.


    ¡°Hrmm¡­ what should we name him love? He has my blue hair so how about naming him Rain?


    ¡°That sounds good Jess. Let¡¯s name our boy Rain.¡±


    Somehow I was able to understand everything they were saying and by coincidence I was given the same name as my previous life.

    I was trying to keep listening, but I soon fell asleep.


    When I finally woke up I was in a different room and my parents weren¡¯t around anymore, but I was on a bed. I was curious of how this new world would looked like. I looked around the room, it looked plain and there was only one window in this room.


    Then someone came into the room. It was Jess. She came to pick me up.


    ¡°Rain are you hungry?¡±


    I tried talking but nothing came out. Only crying came out, but I was breast fed anyways. It was quite an odd feeling. However, what choice did I have, I was hungry. I quickly fell asleep again.


    Then this is how my first 6 months went by.

 After 6 Months

    I¡¯m finally able to barely walk around. However, it¡¯s great to be able to walk. In my past life I was always stuck in a bed or a wheel chair. Just being able to walk around is a new sensation for me.


    O ya I got to see magic for the first time.


    It was Jess using water magic to fill up a pot and then using a device to heat up the pot. It doesn¡¯t look like a stove but just a flat piece of stone. I think it is some kind of magic imbued item. Kind of like the ones you hear about in manga¡¯s.


    Well it has been 6 months now since I¡¯ve been born. I¡¯ve seen that there aren¡¯t much books, or maybe my family just doesn¡¯t have a lot. The letters of this world is pretty much the same with my previous world. There are the slight differences, but it is hardly noticeable. Therefore, I think I lucked out on not having to learn a new language and alphabet. I¡¯ve tried to take a look at books when Jess and Nic aren¡¯t home. These two seem to be my parents, Jess being my mom and Nic being my dad.


    My parents tend to leave me alone a lot. Especially my dad. I only see him in the morning when I get up and at night before bed. My mom is home but you could say she isn¡¯t home. She is always in another room helping out patients. While I¡¯m in the room by myself. She uses healing magic to help injured people and animals.     Anyways, back to the books. There about 20 books in the house, or at least that I¡¯ve found. The book that interests me the most is on how to use magic and how to store it. From what I¡¯ve read, the magic is stored in the brain and if it is used well it expands the thought process of the mind. Allowing people to think faster and control things and elements around them.


    The easiest way to expand ones magic storage is to meditate or to exhaust the body¡¯s magic. This lets the body relax and to expand. These are things that I¡¯ve learned from the books that I¡¯ve gotten to take a peek at. I¡¯m looking forward to find about how to meditate or to exhaust the body¡¯s magic.


    A couple of days pass and I finally learn that to meditate on magic I only need to first sense the elements and then store them to make it my magic. From there you use the elements stored to spread through the mind. Doing this will also exhaust the body¡¯s magic but it takes much longer to exhaust because it isn¡¯t being use for an external purpose.


    So for now I close my eyes and try to see the elements. I start to see all kinds of different lights around me. They range from bright lights to dark lights and I¡¯m assuming each different light represents a different element, so I try to imagine the lights coming into my mind and staying there. However, they move very slowly to me, and only the smallest particle of lights try enter my head, but right as it enters I soon black out.


    When I wake up I feel the world is a bit clearer and when I try to meditate again. I can see the same lights, but the particles move just a little tiny faster. It is barely noticeable. However, I have the time so let¡¯s get started on my meditation again.

 Age of 3

    I recently turned 3 this year. Apparently in this world you don¡¯t celebrate birthdays every year. However, there is a ceremony at the age of 5 were you go to the temple and get an evaluation of your abilities. I can¡¯t wait for that time to come. I¡¯ve been do my meditation all this time and I¡¯ve come to know that, to expand your magic storage it takes a lot of hard work. After all this time I can still only draw in the smallest of element particles, but I can now do it at a faster pace. It only takes about 30 minutes to draw in the elements now. However, it takes even longer to exhaust it during meditation. Sadly I don¡¯t know how to apply my magic yet.


    One day I found out that my father is a guard/magic trainer for the town. I saw him outside the house talking to some kids who seem to be in their teens with one of the magic books and after he would go off with a sword to other parts of the town.


    I found out that all the books that my parents have are only beginner books. Some are about magic while others are tales of people adventuring. These are books that my father was gifted. This is the reason why I never see him all day except at night and morning. During his guard work he has saved a couple of merchants and they are the ones who gifted him these books.     My parents haven¡¯t found out that I can read yet, but they see me flipping through books. I¡¯m not sure if they think I¡¯m playing with the books but I hear my mom say, ¡°Look he is flipping through books like you love.¡±


    I can talk now but I don¡¯t say much. I was never really a talkative person and I don¡¯t know what to say, so my parents think I¡¯m just quite. Hopefully, they don¡¯t think I¡¯m dumb though because I¡¯m not as active as other kids at my age.


    I see other kids around every now and then but I don¡¯t go play with them either. Most of them are bigger and older than me and they mostly play with sticks and run around causing trouble for the town. However, I think that I should start doing something with my body too. With this new world I don¡¯t want to miss out on anything. Whether it be strength or magic.


    Therefore, today I¡¯ve decided to train my body by doing pushups and running around the house. Then do my meditation when I¡¯m too tired to move my body. Hopefully this plan will work out, but this is my goal until I turn 5 for my evaluation.

 Evaluation

    ¡°Rain wake up.¡±


    ¡°I¡¯m up mom¡±


    ¡°Your father can¡¯t make it to your evaluation son, because he has to keep patrolling the town, so don¡¯t feel too bad.¡±


    ¡°It¡¯s ok. I just hope that I get a good evaluation. That way I can go out on patrol with dad or you can teach me magic.¡±


    ¡°It¡¯s fine even if you don¡¯t get a good evaluation. It can¡¯t judge everything that you can or can¡¯t be.¡±


    ¡°Ok.¡±


    I soon went to get ready and went outside the house. The house isn¡¯t all that big. It was a one story house with three bedrooms, a kitchen, and a living room. The bathroom was outside, in an outhouse. There is also a small stable that can¡¯t fit multiple horses, but we only have one horse. The horse is my dad¡¯s. I see him get on it every morning before he goes patrolling the town.


    Outside the house there was already a carriage. The carriage is here to pick me up and other people from the surrounding towns and villages to take the kids and parents to their age 5 ceremonies.


    ¡°Hello, please enter the carriage with the other families.¡±


    ¡°Inside the carriage there is two other children and their parents. One child was a girl and the other was a boy, but the boy seemed to be part animal. This was my first time seeing someone part animal. He had wolf like ears and short hair or fur coming out of all his clothes. His face though, looked like a normal persons face and he had green eyes. The girl had blonde hair and nothing else really unique about her.


    We ended up sitting next to the wolf boy and his parents. I sat next to the wolf boy.


    ¡°HI, my name is Craw. What¡¯s yours?


    ¡°I¡¯m Rain¡±


    ¡°Oh ok. Rain I just turned 5 too. How do you think you are going to do in the evaluation?


    ¡°I don¡¯t know, but I hope I do well.¡±


    ¡°Well I¡¯m sure I will do well. My family has always gotten a strong physical result from the ceremony. You know, you should hang out with me since we are both tanking the ceremony. It must be fate meeting and taking it together. I live in the town before yours.¡±


    This Craw sure likes to talk a lot. However, I just kept casually talking to him on the way to the temple. He talked a lot about his family and his buddies/underlings all the way until we got there.


    There wasn¡¯t a lot of people at the temple. Only our three families and the people who works there at the temple. I wonder how the temple is being supplied. Then I hear from Craw that the temples are provided everything it needs from the local king. It provides all the funds year round to the temples. The temples use this money to pick up children and their parents, so that each family can get an evaluation for their children once they turn 5. The kids are all picked up around the same time each month. All this is in hopes that a good seedling can be found and sent to the academies in the main city.Enjoying this book?     We soon all exited the carriage and entered the temple. The parents are led into another room while we kids enter a different room. In the room there was a man standing next to a pedestal.


    ¡°Hi children. Today is your evaluations. It is actually quite easy. All you have to do is grab onto this stone plate. It is an identification of sorts. You can only get these plates at a temple so don¡¯t lose this it. Once you grab the identification plate or id plate. It will give you a slight pinch. This is natural and it will help imbue the plate your information.¡±


    We soon each grabbed a plate.


    ¡°Now children look at the plates. It should say your names on there. Next we go to this sphere over here. All you need to do is grab onto it and it will light up a certain color. This color will tell us if you have the ability to use magic.¡±


    The girl walked up first and grabbed onto the ball. Then it started to shine and glow a light white color, a few spots of red, and brown.


    ¡°Hrmm¡­ looks like you have the ability to use light magic, a bit of fire, and a bit of earth magic. However, you will need to train harder to use fire and earth magic.¡±


    Then Craw went up next. The ball glowed brown, with spots of red and blue.


    ¡°You can control earth magic, a bit of fire, and water magic.


    Next I went up and grabbed onto the sphere. It had a smooth feel. Then the sphere started to turn clear.


    ¡°What an interesting thing to happen. This means that you can use all types of magic and it won¡¯t be too hard to learn them either. Who are your parents?


    ¡°My mom is Jess and my dad is Nic.¡±


    The man seemed to mumble to himself. ¡°Hrm¡­ neither of them have such a unique magic. Except his father does have a unique kind of magic.¡±


    ¡°Ok. I¡¯ll keep a note of that. Next you three will hit this dolls body as hard as you can. This will help us see how strong your bodies are.¡±


    This time I went first. I tried to hit the dummy in the chest as hard as I could, but it only made a small muffling sound. The girl next hit and it didn¡¯t make any sound. This made me feel a bit better. Then last it was Craw. Craw hit the dummy and it made a loud echo in the whole room. The judge didn¡¯t say much about it though. I¡¯m assuming that half-humans tend to have more physical strength.


    ¡°Ok now children. Your evaluations are done. Please go back to your parents and don¡¯t forget your ID plates. This will be very useful to you when try to find a job in the future or should you choose to become an adventurer. Your parents will also be notified of your evaluations shortly.¡±


    We all found our parents and reentered the carriage that took us all home. On the way home Craw was talking a lot to me again, but I just let him talk again. He sure likes to talk a lot. We eventually got to my house though.


    ¡°What an interesting day! Rain you are going to have to come over to the next town to hang out with me. You don¡¯t talk a lot and I like that about you. You can be me second hand man.¡±


    ¡°I¡¯ll think about it Craw. Well, I¡¯ll see you around hopefully.¡±


    I made a new friend today. Even though he talks a lot. I¡¯ve decided I¡¯ll start going to the next town over to hang out with him, but I won¡¯t slack on my meditation. I think the meditation will benefit me in the end.

 A talk

    A few days after the ceremony. A judge from the temple comes.


    ¡°Hello sir. My name is Nathaniel. I¡¯m the judge who evaluated your son. I was wondering if you have any plans to enter your son into the academy.¡±


    ¡°O, did my son do that well? I only heard that he was able to use all types of magic, but I know a few people who can do the same. That didn¡¯t make them good enough to get a judge come see them and request them to go the capital academies.¡±


    ¡°You don¡¯t understand how special your son is then. During his evaluation he had a 100 percent transparent sphere. Those people you knew probably only had a slight transparency. With his evaluation he will easily learn magic of any type. The elements must truly adore your son. Since it will easily allow him to absorb them and expand his magic storage.¡±


    ¡°I didn¡¯t think that my son would get such an evaluation. However, I don¡¯t want him to go to the academy any time soon. He is too timid. I wouldn¡¯t want him to get boss around or manipulated in the academy. Allow me some time and I will talk to you again about his academy admissions.¡±


    ¡°That is fine, but please contact me before going straight to the academies. I do know that you have your own connections to get your son into the academies. Especially with your title of blood warrior and the people you have saved during your time as a soldier.¡±Stolen novel; please report.


    ¡°That was a long time ago. I am no longer the blood soldier. Now I am just a father and a patrol for this town. I no longer use blood magic like I used to.¡±


    When Nic said this there was a hint of blood flash through his eyes. This is something that Nathaniel could not, not notice.


    ¡°Your eyes can not lie of your past Nic. Even though you have married and settled down. You still have the thirst for battle. Why else have you decided to be a guard? This town is on the out skirts of the kingdom. It had so many monsters roaming before you became the guard. Now it is so peaceful that you wouldn¡¯t think this is a town on the edge of the kingdom. With you alone this town is safe enough for parents not to worry about their children playing outside and getting attacked by a stray monster.¡±


    ¡°Thank you Nathaniel, but I will have to think about it. I now live my family and my wife Jess isn¡¯t to found of the capital. She was once a slave there. There is nothing but bad memories for her there. I will think about your offer. Should I change my mind I will contact you.¡±


    ¡°If that is your decision. Then please take these books and teach your son magic. I know from asking around that you teach children magic. These books are more advanced books on the topic of magic. Also on how to utilize magic and different meditation techniques. If your son should enter a magic academy I¡¯m sure he will become one of the top students.¡±

    The judge soon took off after offering the books to Nic.


    ¡°Maybe I should start taking Rain along on my patrols, so he can see more people and hopefully open up more.¡±

 magic (part 1)

    I saw the judge come yesterday. He spoke with my dad. I wonder what they spoke about. Then for the first time my father came to my room before he went on patrol.


    ¡°Rain. Get up and get ready. Go with me on patrol. I want to talk with you about your evaluation.¡±


    I quickly got ready. Then my dad and I took off. We took off the horse and started going out of town.


    ¡°Rain. I heard that your evaluation said you can use all magic. Have you learned to read? I¡¯ve heard from your mom that you¡¯ve been looking at books.¡±


    ¡°I can read now.¡±


    ¡°That is great. I¡¯ll be teaching you about magic today then. First, there are many types of magic, but it all depends on what elements you can absorb and how much. Absorbing the elements into the mind can make you think faster and become more rational. Absorbing the elements into your body will help you become more resilient to magic and make you stronger. However, most people don¡¯t start to absorb magic until they are at least 5. The reason is that if you make a mistake while absorbing you can make yourself become disabled.     Therefore, you can choose to become a mage who specializes in close combat or one that specializes in distance. Depending on how you spread the elements you absorb. Each element absorb will have different effects on the body. However, absorbing it into the mind and expanding it will allow the person to be able to use an element easier.


    Next there are many different elements, so many in fact that we don¡¯t know them all, but the main ones that people are born able to absorb are wind, water, fire, and earth. However, how you use the elements in your magic will show how great you can become. For instance if you use different elemental spells together. You can create a stronger spell, but to figure out how to fuse them is the hard part. You however, can absorb all kinds of elements and so you have many possibilities, but having a lot of possibilities isn¡¯t always great. You should try to decide what kind of magic you want to use. This way you can dedicate yourself and not waste your time. Time is one of the greatest pains of magicians because if you choose to be one that specializes on the mind. You won¡¯t have enough time because your body won¡¯t be able to sustain yourself in the long run. However, if you choose the body it will let you live longer, but because the mind isn¡¯t as expanded it will take you longer to specialize in a type of magic. Any questions so far?¡±


    ¡°Nothing so far, but I have actually read the basics on magic. I was wondering if you can teach me how to use magic?¡±


    ¡°Interesting.¡±

 magic (part 2)

    ¡°Well to even use magic. You have to have magic stored. Do you have any?¡±


    ¡°I¡¯ve some magic stored.¡±


    ¡°Oh do you. Ok then I would like you to imagine that there is a stream coming from your mind. It will follow your blood down to your hands. Then imagine a ball of any element.¡±


    I started to imagine a red light coming from my mind and to my hand. Then imagine the red light turned into a ball.


    Soon there was a ball of fire in my hand, but it wasn¡¯t burning me and it didn¡¯t feel hot.


    Nic made a startled look. Hrmm¡­. He can already manipulate mana to an extent. I guess he already has some mana stored.


    ¡°Can you do any other elements?¡±


    ¡°I¡¯ll try.¡±


    I then made different lights form on my hand. I made a ball of light, water, soil, darkness, and a distortion.     ¡°That was a distortion in the space. That is not something that you should be able to do.¡± How attuned to the elements is he. That he is already able to bend a portion space. This is something that magician¡¯s try for ages and are barely able to do, but they use so much more energy to do the same thing. ¡°Don¡¯t show other people that you can distort space. You never know what other people may think or try to do. It seems you do have mana stored already. Did you learn to store the magic from the books at home?


    ¡°Yes I did.¡±


    ¡°Did you only store the elements or did you use it to expand your mind and body?¡±


    ¡°I have done a little of both already, but I haven¡¯t had any side effects.¡±


    ¡°Son. That was very dangerous. At least you are ok though. Don¡¯t tell others that you have already started before you have turned 5 though. Others might think you are a freak. From here on though. I think I¡¯ll start taking you on my patrols and teach you magic and swordsmanship. This world isn¡¯t such a safe place. This town we live in can be considered rather safe, but other places are dangerous.¡±


    From here we went around town. I guess I won¡¯t be able to go to the town over anymore. At least I¡¯ll be able to learn magic and swordsmanship. We also talked to a lot of the town¡¯s people. I didn¡¯t know that there were so many people in this town. I also found out that there are more books at home.
