《Cecidit Mundi ; Fallen World》 Prologue - The Summoning The battlefield cries. The once prosperous country of Leysvert is now burning. The various towns that were once bustling is now being pillaged. People of the country are being killed day by day. Little by little, Leysvert is being consumed by invaders. --- The Country of Leysvert. It was populary known by its other name, The Treasured Land. The country stands on fertile lands, lush nature and wonderous rivers. It was a land abundant with resources. The country grew fast because of its geography and of course, with the rule of its wise Kings. The neighboring countries of Leysvert, however, envied such wealth. The Kingdom of Railos, The Country of Rinestol, The Empire of Infes. All three countries tried to invade Leysvert, but was in vain. The reason was simple. The neighboring countries were at war with each other. Constantly monitoring one another, if one was to send out a huge army, another would use it to their advantage. Leysvert protected its borders for decades. That is, until now. A millenium later, a new country was born. It conquered The Kingdom of Railos within two years, defended the territory for six months, and continued straight to conquer The Country of Rinestol. Two countries were conquered in a span of five years. The Empire of Infes watched the whole scene unfold. Fearing that they would be next, the current King of Infes holed his armies inside the country. The plan was successful enough that it defended the Empire for three years. However, the Empire of Infes was surrounded by a million soldiers. Such event was known to be as "The Great Fall of Infes". The uprising country has swallowed all three countries within eight and a half years. And that same country is now invading The Country of Leysvert. --- "Your Majesty, Mezo Fortress has been captured by the enemy." "Your Majesty! The City of Resta has fallen!" "Your Majesty. We have confirmed that the enemy is marching towards the City of Leia." "Your Majesty, the fall of the Third Wall is imminent. I suggest to begin strengthening the Second Wall." How did this happen? I furrow my eyebrows on the reports that was given to me. The enemy is slowly, yet steadily marching into the Capital of Leysvert. I am currently holding a meeting inside the castle. The members of the meeting was the King and Queen of Leysvert, the Head Butler, the Commanders of Leysvert''s armies, the Head Magi of the Court of Magus, and the Chancellor. I am the current King of Leysvert, Reindhert von Leysvert. My wife, Sofira Learo Leysvert, is the Queen of Leysvert. The head butler,Lesto Levisto, is not only the head butler. He also secretly manages the Castle guard''s most elite units. In other words, he is the King''s Shield. The Commanders of Leysvert''s armies consists of three Generals.General Leila Roysvelt, General Mana Roysvelt, andGeneral Vandal Roysvelt. The three are siblings. They manage the Walls of Leysvert, The First up to Third Wall. The Third Wall however, is beginning to crumble. "Can we really not defend the Third Wall, Leila?"If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation. I ask with hope. "Your Majesty, the invading army of the Third Wall consists of two hundred thousand militia and one hundred thousand mages. Our armies cannot hold on for much longer." "I see. Issue the order to evacuate the Third Wall. Leave behind traps to slow down the enemy." "Ha! By your will!" Leila disappears from her seat. Teleport. A magic only a few mages can use. Its complexity can actually kill its user if not used correctly. "Mana, I permit the strengthening of the Second Wall. Please defend the Walls of Leysvert as much as you can." "Yes, by your will." "Vandal, go to the Second Wall as well." "Is it okay, your Majesty?" "Yes, as much as possible, we must repel the invaders." "If you say so, then I will." After all, the rest of the invader''s army is resting inside the border. What we are fighting against is only a fraction of their army. The two Generals stood up and left the room. They must make haste to begin preparations. "What about us, your Majesty?" The Head of the Court of Magus, Sola Marasuvita, asks with a raised hand. The Court of Magus is the Country''s most talented mages. Not only that, their power is equal to a thousand mages. However, they are few, with only 7 members. Excluding Sola and Leila, even the remaining 5 can''t fight one hundred thousand mages in a long run. Their mana and stamina isn''t infinite after all. "I will have your cooperation later." "Okay~. By your will." Sola droops on the table with a carefree attitude. Everyone here knows her personality, no one rebukes her for that. "Dear, what are you planning to do?" "Sofira, don''t worry. Leysvert will not fall. Not now." Though I am King, one can say I am young. At my age of 30, I lack experience and wisdom of the past King, my Father. However, I believe that what I am about to do is the only way to save Leysvert. "Chancellor, is the preparations ready?" "Yes, your Majesty. Everything is prepared." "I see. Let us go then. Lesto, do not let anyone enter the building." "Yes." Lesto bows and leaves the room. The Chancellor, Oles Henderf, leads us to the King''s Chambers, just behind the meeting room. Inside, the 4 of the remaining mages of the Court of Magus are waiting in a line. """"Your Majesty, we, the Court of Magus are ready."""" "Your Majesty~ Am I not needed for the ritual?" Sola at my side, asks with a curious gaze. Does she want to perform the ritual alone, I wonder. "Sola, the four of them are enough. Even with you joining in, the result will still be the same. I will have you guard us, however, if the summoned person is hostile." Yes. What we will be doing is summoning. Not just any kind of summoning, it''s the Hero Summoning. "Hmm~. Okay, I will guard you with my life." "Dear, are you really sure about this?" My wife, Sofira gently asks. "Of course. Though, I know the hero will go through harsh experiences, this is the only way to save Leysvert." ---- According to Sola, the Hero will be strengthened by the summoning, which can result to the hero being as powerful as the whole Court of Magus, or even greater. "Your Majesty." Chancellor Oles asks my permission. "Umu. Then, begin!" The ritual has begun. The four mages join hands and chants the spell. The spell was long and tedious, and the consumption of mana was enormous. The four was beginning to look pale. A little more. Just a little more. Such thoughts were visible from their faces. And then... Crack! Crack Crack! Shatter! A sound like glass breaking was heard. The room was enveloped in white light. "Your Majesty!" Sola forcefully pulls us behind, shoving us behind her back. "What''s wrong Sola?" "This Hero... looks bad." ---- I furrow my eyebrows from Sola''s statement. Bad? You mean evil? How can a hero be evil? Wait, no. It''s Heroes. In the center of the Magic Circle, stood one man and one woman. At my guess, their age would be somewhere in between 16 to 19. "Where the hell are we?"(Girl) "How would I know? Wouldn''t those guys know?"(Man) They curiously eyed their surroundings. The way they speak is strange. The way they dress is strange. But they''re the Heroes that will save Leysvert, right? I move up in front of Sola. However, she insists on guarding me. "Your Majesty! Please stay at my back! These people... They feel dangerous, somehow." "Sola, how will I greet our Heroes if I am at the back? Stand down." "But..." "This is an order." "... Iunderstand..." Sola unwillingly steps aside. "Heroes of another world, I welcome you. I am the King of the Country of Leysvert, Reindhert von Leysvert." "King? Another world?"(Man) "Ah... Hey, is this perhaps, that?"(Girl) "Heroes, I''m afraid we do not have time. Please... Please save our country from invaders." I bow my head to them. Sola looks surprised. No, in fact, everyone does. Sofira, however, also bows down like it was normal. "Hmmm.... I knew it. It''s one of those otherworld summoning."(Girl) They know summoning magic?! "Ahhh... Hahahahaha! Who would have thought, right?!"(Man) "So, King, you said we are your heroes, right?"(Girl) I raise my face up. I froze in fear. No, it was of terror. "?!" I was so horrified that I forgot to answer. Their faces... "In that case, we will politely accept the role."(Girl) "But we have our conditions. You''ll accept them riii~ght?"(Man) "Y-Yes, what would those be?" Their faces was warped with a smile. It was an evil smile. "We will kill everyone. We will slaughter them. Each. And. Every. One. Those who will interfere with us, will also get killed."(Man) "After that, we are free from you. After all, we have some gratitude to you for summoning us into this interesting world."(Girl) Slaughter?! Everyone, they say?! C-Can they really do such a thing? "I-If... If you can save Leysvert from disaster... Then, of course. After all, y-your lives are yours alone...." To say such things so easily, what are they? Are they even human? "Aha~. Then we have a deal. If you break your promise, you''ll have to swallow a thousand needles okay~"(Girl) "Hehehehe... Well then. But, before that, you''ll have to answer some of our questions."(Man) The man looks at Sola, who in turn shivers in fright. These two exudes such evil aura... The whole room has been cold the entire time. I... Should I have not done this? I fear that I have summoned a Devil from Hell. No... These two surely... They surely are worse than that... ---- Chapter 1 Part 1 - One Side of the Heroes (POV of the Male Hero) War has always plagued the world. Humans fight for anything they want, and a Country fights for prosperity. The result is such a thing called War. During these times, the country forcefully conscripts all males to be put in the army. Age limit? There was no such thing. Children were to be trained until they can fight for the country, those who are mature enough are trained with the bare minimum and are to be immediately put nto the battlefield. I was one of those children. For the soldier''s convenience, children were not named, only labeled. I was only seven at that time. Children at my age were supposed to play outside, and enjoy the youth that they have. Alas, our playtime is to have live ammunition practice. We were thouroughly trained that the lessons seeped deep into our bones. However, not all children can endure such hell. The ratio of those that live after the hellish training was 3 out of 10. It may not seem alot, but to my country, it was enough. After all, those who survived those days were said to be the elite of elites. They were trained to kill, they were taught to kill, they live to kill. Their only reason was to kill their enemy. Ten years. For ten years straight, we went through that hell. Before the sun rises in the morning, we ran laps around a military base in the outskirts of a forest that is in the opposite direction of the battlefield. We ran, and ran and ran. We must ran, or else we will get punished. A few hours after the sun rose, we begin breakfast. Though I said breakfast, it was only bread and soup. We are to be grateful enough to have some, after all the country doesn''t steadily provide us rations. There were times that not all children ate breakfast, and some only ate bread. We are given an hour of break, then we are to directly head into the training grounds. One portion of children are to train in CQC, another in weapon handling, the other in shooting practice. I was trained under the weapon handling section, in other words, soldiers that rely on guns. But I hated that. If I were to be disarmed, I would be completely helpless in the battlefield. In the camp, self-practice was allowed. I believe it was the General''s way of making us independent. In my spare time, I would watch the combat group practice. I absorbed every movement, every action they make. The time we spent on the training grounds was until dusk. After that, dinner was served. The last training after dinner was live practice. The children would fight against each other in an attempt to display the skills that they have gained. Wooden weapons were used, and those in the weapon handling group would use slings and the like. They would take distance in order to not get trashed by the more muscle-developed combat group. The fight itself was fair and equal. However, there were times that children die during the fights. The soldiers, however, pay no heed to such things. After the combat exercise, we sleep. Rinse, and repeat. That is how we children of war lived our youthful years before we are sent to the battlefield. Some children are dispatched earlier than others. Then there are those that have to stay a bit more longer than others. During that time, if they failed to prove their worth, they are still to be dispatched to the front lines. It''s that, ''Sending someone into their own grave'' thing. No matter how useless they turn out to be, they were trained by the soldiers for years, they ought to have some use. However, those that have the feeling of rebelling were killed by the soldiers. There was someone in the past that tried to kill the General in the camp. He died a dog''s death. He was captured, limbs were broken and torn one after another, skinned alive, nailed, cauterized. He was tortured slowly in the center of the camp day by day. In his last breath, he was burned alive. His screams still echoed in my ears. After that, the children never thought of rebelling again.Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on Royal Road. Then our time came.Ten years of hellish training has ended. We were sent into the battlefield. ---- "LISTEN! You maggots have now graduated from our supervision! You are no longer the trash you were. You are no longer what you used to be. You guys are soldiers. You guys are assassins. Your objectives are only to kill the enemy in front. You are to use everything at your disposable, even your life. Fight for your country!" Is he seriously saying that? The General at the camp was more fearsome and powerful than this man. And we are under his supervision? This must be a joke. Currently, we are gathered here in rank and file to hear the speech of the General that was assigned to us. One noticable thing about this gathering is that, ten of us is separated from the other graduates. We are that Specialized Team that the General at camp was bragging about. He called us ''Elites''. "That is all! You maggots are dismissed!" It was time. The lousy General has finished his speech. It was then, that someone else came on stage. A girl with short, dazzling blonde hair came on stage. That rank... a Superior General?! That''s a rank above General, one of the two greatest rank the Country has, and only three persons weilds it! A girl possessing such rank, and one that is young no less, what is she? Her age looks around 20, I guess? In any case, she looks young. Her height looks about 150 cm. And those eyes... Sapphire blue eyes that stares directly into one''s soul... She stands in front of our rank. "I am 2nd Rank Superior General Sela Luveria. You ten are under my supervision. You don''t need to heed anyone else unless they have the same rank as mine or higher. Follow me, and we shall bring victory to our Country." Her words resound my very soul. On that day, I decided that I will follow her as long as I breath. The outcome of the war was decided on that day. My Country has triumphed in repelling the enemy invader, and has also conquered them. These feats were done within two years. Our team''s name was not recorded in history. We are after all, a secret force that moves in the shadows. There were rumors though. But no one can affirm them, as no one has a concrete grasp of them. During the time of war, our team was reduced from 11 to 4. Sela, me, one woman and one man. We are the remains of the so called Elites. I''ll leave out the details of the war. That will be a story for another day. Though, I suppose I''ll tell you what happened after that. After the war has ended, we Elites spent our time in the capital. Even if the war has ended, we are forces that are necessary for upholding order and peace. Although, there are only 4 of us. No one can replace the lost Elites. There were replacements, but Sela sent them back after she deemed them useless and incompetent. Huh? What do you mean we still have our ego? Ah, that part about trained to kill, taught to kill and live to kill? You can say we are different. Though I say that, most of the graduates do become like that. I am one of the very few that retained their ego and sanity. The other two regained some of theirs through their experiences in war. Now, we mostly idle around in the capital as reserved forces. The other two digilently work as instructors in the capital. Sela often takes breaks from work, and I would do the same. While I think we are being treated as decorated trophies, I don''t mind it. Although, there was something that was lacking. What is this unsettling feeling? It was only a few months after the war ended. Yet, I feel that there is something missing. It was an indescribable feeling that I cannot put into words. ---- Chapter 1 Part 2 - One Side of the Heroes (Still POV of the Male Hero) It was said that peaceful things are fleeting. Even the peace that we achieved is such a thing. I for one, don''t hate it though. "Command! Enemy troops are currently marching towards our border! I repeat, enemy troops are currently marching towards our border! Estimated forces reach 50 thousand enemy troops!" Sela reports. What is currently happening right now is that we are being invaded. Again. Five months after the war, a new war was put into action. Another neighboring country has taken advantage of the previous war. The Elites that was on standby was given a recon mission. However, the border was already under attacked by a detached force. Circling around the battlefield took us three days, delaying the report. What we saw is what we reported. "What are we gonna do now? What we can do in this situation is pretty limited." "Indeed. We can return now, or try to cut off their supply lines. If you even so desire, we can try and reduce their numbers. Well, what do you think? Vice-captain." "General Sela, please stop joking around." I asked, and I recieved. Well, the answer I got was pretty dangerous. Though doable, I wouldn''t do such tactics that will kill myself. Sela can override any orders given to her, as long as it isn''t from the Command itself. After all, the only person that can outrank a Superior General is the Elite General. "Well then, my Elites. Do we die an honorable death, or receive shame from home?" "Pretty sure that we can just retreat now." "Nonsense! We are the Elites! We can do the impossible if we wanted to!" "But they''re 50 thousand troops!" "What I see is 50 thousand corpses!" Sigh. I wonder what makes her so certain that we won''t die attempting such feats. "General Sela, please stop yourself from diving into the pit of death." "Vice-captain. Won''t you trust me? Our victory is certain." What makes her so certain to say that? "May I?" This time, the male Elite raises his hand. "Your wording makes it sound as if you have seen victory. General, may I hear why?" "It''s simple, really. Their supplies." The two Elites tilt their head in response. Their supplies? What about it?, I thought. "You guysss!! Aargh! It''s their equipments! Equipments! Look at it!" Sela passes us her binoculars. I take it and look at the marching enemies. "Are those cannons?" "Yes! Cannons! And what''s more, their guns! Those guns are one, maybe even two grades inferior to the guns we have. With these evidences, I say that those caravans must be carrying barrels of gunpowder and shells! We use those to our advantage. Blow them up! Like fireworks!"If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. "Our guns cannot accurately shoot from here, and we''ll receive a rain of bullets if were seen." "Hehe! Behold! The new rifle model! It can accurately shoot things from long distances, farther than our current rifle models! I received it yesterday. Of course, I used my authority to take three more for you guys. Well? Well? Give me praise! I am a thoughful superior!" This girl... She greatly changed from the time I saw her two years ago. If I had to describe it, like she warmed up to us, I guess. Well, given her unknown circumstances, she may have not enjoyed her life, pretty much like us. *sigh* "Well, now that we have the means to do so, will we attempt it now?" "Of course! Let''s go! Into your positions!" ---- Spread out. Lie in wait. Aim. ''In theory, these new models should be able to reach as far as 1000 meters'' is what she said. Aim... Steady... Shoot! *Bang!* *Bang!* ... *sss-BOOM!* "Enemy! Enemy atta-" *pshk!* Death. Reload. Shoot. Repeat. This gun sure is easy to use. Two caravans exploded, scattering shells around the enemy formation. Burnt bodies, dismembered bodies, dead bodies. Enemies were being reduced little by little. They''re panicking. From where? How? They must be thinking such things. They were shouting orders, others being vigilant. But it''s useless. We''re just too far. *Bang!* *Bang!* *BOOM!* They had about a fifty caravans. Most of these must contain gunpowder and ammo, while others must be food supplies. Some didn''t explode after all. *Zzzt!* Elites, can you hear me? Our ammos won''t last for long. After firing everything, leave the area and regroup. We had our share of fun. It seems killing every single one of them is impossible, after all. Sela gave her orders through the radio. I told you it''s impossible, I said in my mind. Though not many, we were able to destroy most of their gunpowders and ammunitions. They also had several casualties. With these, they will be delayed, they may even go back. I can call this a success. After emptying my magazine, I stood up and ran. We are to regroup in the base in the frontlines. Of course, we''re going to circle the battlefield, just like last time. After gaining some distance, I slowed down. I walked cautiously. In the battlefield, things can unexpectedly happen. It won''t be strange to encounter an enemy here. But what is this feeling, I wonder. This adrenaline. Although I was walking, I can feel my heart beat, my blood boil. This feeling! This sensation! It was the feeling of war! The joy of killing! "Aah... It seems it was still carved in our bodies. The teachings in that hell." Trained to kill, taught to kill, live to kill. Truly, we Elites are nothing but killing machines. During those time of peace, that unsettling feeling was the craving for war. The craving for death. *Zzzt* "This is Vice-captain. Sela, are you there?" *Zzt!* This is Sela. Vice-captain, you''re slow. You''re the only one left. Head over here now so we can go home. What, am I the only one left? Maybe I had too much fun... *Zzt* "Roger. I''ll head there immediately." When I got out of the forest, my eyes caught sight of the battlefield. It was chaotic. If I''m not careful, I might get shot by a stray bullet. "Though, I don''t think that will happen." ---- I continued my way into the base. When I got there, a bored Sela was sitting on a chair playing with her rifle. "Slow. Punishment will be needed when we get back." "Haah. Please go easy on me." I will not make any excuses, as it was entirely my fault. I think so. "Anyways, now that everyone''s here, let''s go home. Our mission here is over." "Roger." "General Sela, Vice-captain." This time, the female Elite voiced out. "I can hear planes. Bomber planes." "What? That''s impossible." Sela exited the room, we followed suit. "No way. Those are from a different country! Could it be, they''re alliances?!" "Impossible!" Planes and tanks. Such things are luxuries. The previous war exhausted those luxuries, that only a few were left. And now, we are faced with a squadron of bomber planes. ---- "Haaaa..." Sela gave a long sigh. "Sela?" "Vice-captain. It seems our luck ran out." "Huh?" "This must be the end of our journey." How? How can you give up so easily? "This isn''t like you, Sela." "Hahaha. Well... One must accept reality." The reality of death. "Haa... Nothing can be done, huh. We''ll follow you, until our last breath." The three of us saluted. It is our free will. We selfishly decided so. "Hahahaha! I''m blessed. Blessed to have such loyal soldiers. Well then! Let us go. Honorable death is a death in battle. Resist until the end. I won''t stay still to die from bombing." Sela grabs her rifle, faces us and returns a salute. "Well then, my Elites. Towards hell, we go." Aahh, it was this. Craving for death was it? So stupid. ---- That was my last memories of my world. The rest, was a white light. The next, an unfamiliar world. Seriously. What the hell? Chapter 2 part 1: The Other Side of the Heroes (POV of the female hero) In an era of peace, war became a relic of the past. Large scale wars, war of major powers, they no longer exist. But murder does. It won''t fade away. ----- Smiling Killer, Death God, Murderer. Nicknames, different ones, all have one common point. The depiction of death. Amongst those who can kill without any emotion and those who kill while having their sanity, which do you think is the scarier one? I believe it''s the latter. To kill on their own will. They must have reasons, you say? What reasons? Madman, we call them. The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement. They don''t need reasons. If you ask these people, ''why do you kill?'', their response would be: ''I just wanted to. It seemed fun. They deserved it. I''m addicted to it.'' The feeling of killing another person can be addicting. We are called Madmen for that reason. Twisted, cold, ruthless, and yet, rational. We kill for the sake of killing. We continue to kill until we are killed. My first kill was when I was on junior high. My classmates were bullying me, and one day, some boys attempted to rape me. Well, they tried. When I was struggling, I luckily grabbed a scissor and stabbed them. First was the one who tried to rape me. I stabbed his eyes out, and stabbed his throat. He was screaming his lungs out, saying ''it hurts, it hurts!'' over and over. The other one who was supposed to be the lookout, entered the room only to find his friend dying in his own pool of blood. He was so scared, he plopped on the ground and wet himself. I, on the other hand, sluggishly stood up. The adrenaline was still in me, and the hatred that was kept inside of me was being set free. ''Revenge!'', my mind screamed. The boy panicked, but had no strength to stand, so he tried to crawl away, bawling his eyes out. The teachers came, and the aftermath was dealt in the court. Because I was underage, I was to be released shortly after some medical tests. The boy was determined guilty, though because he was also underaged, his parents only had to pay a fine. The parents of the deceased boy were shouting something, but I was not paying attention so I didn''t really know what it was. We moved after that, and I was given security and affection by my family. But something in me began to change. And I wouldn''t say that it was a good one.
