《The Horde》
The loneliest Ogre
A loud grunt was met with the clink of heavy metal, a short pause followed before another grunt was followed by another clink of metal. the source of these perculiar sounds was a large man lying back down on a bench, forcing two large dumbells up and down ina classic bench press motion. The strangely coloured man continued with these actions for a quite a while longer, until eventually he heard a quiet, yet loud *ding* that only he could hear.
1 point of strength gained
"H-Holy shit" The large man gasped out as he laboured for every breath.
That, that took a while longer than-" The man gasped for air.
"ThanIth-thought it would." The large man then placed both the 55kg dumbells on the rough concrete ground, then used his now free hands to wipe the accumulated sweat off his brow.
This man was Oliver Greenwood, a 17 year old gym rat, or he was, bfore the incident at least. Now oliver was a hulking mass of green muscle that towered at just over 7''5 feet tall. A ridiculously tall for a human, but then. Oliver wasn''t quite a human any more. A little under a week ago Oliver was turned into what the ''system'' called an ''ogre''. Thanks to this metamorphosis Oliver was now a tall, hulking, red eyed, pointy eared, fangedOgre.
Aformentioned Human-turned-Ogre snatched up his towel and quickly wiped the rest of the sweat off his face, towling around his canines that now just poked out from his bottom lip.
"Next up is legs." Oliver grunted to himself as he finished towling off and sat down to rest for a minute or two. Whilst he was resting Oliver absent mindedly opened up his status window and viewed his now increased stats.

Oliver dismissed the blue screens and thought over his progress, it had been about 5 days since the great collaspe, in the 2nd day he had found the gym he currently resided in, it was quite a large gym, membership only so the equipment wasnt too worn. The building was one story and had 5 rooms, the free weight room, the machine room, the yoga room and 2 staff rooms. Each room was relitively large and had room for Oliver to train in. Though he didnt use the yoga room, that much.
Oliver thought aboutbackbeforeincident began, He was illegally driving to the gym (he was still on his learners permit), this gym infact.
When suddenlyan impossibly loud voice boomed from the heavans about how humanity had forsaken nature and its process of natural selection. Unfortunatly, Oliver was no longer listening to the mysterious voice''s speech, as he had just ran over a little green thing. Oliver desperatlytried to regain control of the vehicle whilst craning his neck to look around the ugly green child thing that was plastered over his windscreen, just as he began to regain control of the vehicle however an obnoxious transparent blue screen pooped up in the corner of his vision.
CONGRADULATIONS!
You are the 7th human to kill a monster! the system awards you...
...
The [Ogre race; Rare green variant]!
Indescribable pain racked Olivers body as he immediatly lost control of his car again as he writhed around in pain. the last thing he saw was the telephone pole directly in front of him.
when Oliver awoke again he was still in his car. It seemed his seatbelt and air bag had saved his life. He muttered a thankyou to them before crawling out of his wrecked vehicle. thankfully he wasnt going too fast when he hit the pole. After making his way out of the mangled vehicle he looked around him, the street he was in seemed like it had been abandoned. He staggered his way over to an abandoned car, leaning on it for support, this was when he noticed he had a green arm, and that he towered over the abandoned vehicle. Oliver then felt the instinctual need to say the strangest phrase.

However just before oliver could look over his stats he heard something scream behind him just before Oliver felt something collide with his hip. Oliver was sent straight staggering into the car next to him, he quickly turned to see who hit him, but was met with a little green thing that looked similar to what he had run over before. The thing was about 4''5 feet tall and had only a disgusting lioncloth to cover its unmentionables, it was a sickly green and had an enlarged head with a long hooked nose. Overall it was one of the most disgusting creatures Oliver had ever laid eyes on. And it was about to beat him to death with a club.
Oliver barely managed to raise an arm in time to block another one of the creatures swings. as it struck Olivers forearm a meaty thud resounded from the collision.
''little thing hits hard'' Oliver thought as he shot out a leg and kicked it in the chest, throwing the creature from its feet, Oliver then shot forward and grabbed the thing by the face as it tried to scramble to its feet, Throwing all his weight forward Oliver slammed the creatures head into the pavement, once, twice and a third time which was met with a sickening crunch. Oliver let go of the thing and started dry retching the second he saw the things head. However Oliver was once again interrupted by a blue screen.
Killed [level 1 goblin]
''So that gross litttle thing was a goblin'' Oliver thought to himself as he picked himself up from the ground, massaging his slightly bruised hip and arm. They were alot less bruised than he thought they would be, probably due to his now ogre race.
"RAAGH"
Oliver cursed under his breath as he tunred as sawtwo of the goblins sprinting towards him, each with a cobbled together club. Oliver steeled his resolve and met one of the charging goblins'' with the heel of his boot, which sent the goblin bouncing back with a meaty ''oof'', unfortunately the other goblin cracked down his club on Olivers outstretched leg, the club smacked into Olivers knee cap, dealing damage even through his new tough exterior. Oliver pulled his leg back with a small cry of pain, the goblin sensing an opportunity sprung forward, swinging his club around and cracking Oliver just under the ribs, Oliver coughed roughly and brought a flailing arm down on the goblins head, which dazed the creature before it was met with a brutal knee to its eye, the goblin head snapped back as collasped to the ground.
Killed [level 1 goblin]
Whilst this was happening the secondwhinded goblin rose to its feet and flanked out behind Oliver before swinging its club to the back of one of Olivers legs, which quicklybrought Oliver to his knees. The goblin raised its club again, preparing to strike Oliver in the side of the head, putting an end to the fight, but was interrupted by the green man''s elbow flairing out andstriking the goblin across the jaw. It was sent reeling to the ground as Oliver rose to his feet and crushed the Goblins wind pipe under his foot.
Killed [level 1 goblin]
Oliver stood there gasping for breath for a little while longer before darting behind the nearest car. Looking around for any other goblins, before beginning to make his way down to his gym. He navigated around some more goblins, and strange looking pig men, and steered well clear of what looked like a wolf with an oversived head. it took him until nightfall to finally reach his gym, which was near the centre of the sprawling city Oliver resided in, The gym looked like a stone fortress, a square-like building with no windows, and one reinforced door to keep out theives, a door Oliver thankfully had a key card for.
Oliver made his way inside the gym, no one was inside, not even staff. Oliver wondered how long he had been unconsious for, if the world had changed this much. Shaking his head, Oliver banished those thoughts, he would worry later, right now he was tired. Oliver grabbed several heavy weighted plates and stacked them up infront of the door until he felt safe. Then he grabbed a 2 yoga matts and quickly fell asleep on them. his weary body exhausted after the terrifying day. Oliver did not know what horrors he would face tomorrow, only that he wasnt looking forward to it.

Gabrok
Oliver had never had the pre-prepared meals that his gym provided. But he could now confirm that he did in fact, not like them. The pre-prepared meals were a lot like army rations. Enough nutrients to get you through the day healthily, with a bit more protein thrown in the side for muscle gain. Problem was they only came in one flavour, cardboard.
After finishing his meal Oliver considered that there was only enough cardboard meals here for about a week, soon he would need to venture out for more meals. But it was only his second day here, he still had plenty of time to consider and weigh alternative options.
Though, speaking of options, why did the goblins attack me? Oliver thought, he was nearly twice the goblins size, a fight with him would be almost suicide by a goblins standards. Maybe despite the race change was he still considered a human, though the goblins did look rather malnourished, did they attack him out of crazed hunger? Or do goblins just had a violent vendetta against ogres.
Oliver rid his head of such thoughts for now, he did not currently possess a means to answer those questions so pondering would get him nowhere. Instead, Oliver checked his watch for the time, 9:13 am, a good time to start his day. And Oliver would start his day by searching his gym for potential weapons. The world had changed drastically, after the goblin attacks from yesterday, Oliver knew he would need a weapon. Preferably something he could utilise his knew found strength with.
Oliver picked up a heavy squat barbell, the metal rod was almost 2 meters long, with a thicker rod on each end for putting the weights on. The weapon was sturdy, and about 10kg heavy, Oliver liked the reach it gave him too. However, the weapon was too large and unwieldy, every swing would almost set him off balance.
Next Oliver picked up a small-ish set barbell, a set barbell is a barbell with an un-removeable weight attached, this particular set barbell was roughly 1.25 meters long, with a small 10kg on each end, the weights were small but thick, and were made out of solid metal with no rubber coating. Oliver liked the length of the ¡®weapon¡¯, it was long enough for him to really put his weight into each swing, and short enough for him to keep a solid stance whilst using it. Oliver had chosen his weapon.
The pseudo club was too large for Oliver to put in a backpack, if he had one. So he would have to carry it the old fashioned way. He knew going outside would be dangerous, but judging by his game like status, Oliver knew he would need to become stronger if he wanted to survive, he was not going outside to look for other people, definitely not¡
Oliver pocketed his gym card key and tentatively poked his head out the gyms front door, he immediately spotted a lone goblin a little down the street, directly in front of Oliver¡¯s first goal, the large apartment complex. Oliver crouched low and snuck out from behind the door to behind another car. Doing so he spotted a few more goblins further down the street, in the opposite direction of his unware target. He mentally noted to avoid going in that direction as he darted from abandoned car to telephone box, slowly and methodically growing closer to his target. Soon He was a few meters from the goblin who was now poking around in a garbage can, Oliver mentally steeled himself and rushed the goblin, just before doing so the goblin whipped his head out the garbage and sniffed in Oliver¡¯s direction, it was too late for the goblin however as Oliver¡¯s bar-bell met the goblin¡¯s temple with a sickening crunch. The goblin was sent straight into the hard pavement as its body rebounded along it until coming to a halt. It did not get back up.Stolen novel; please report.
Killed [level 1 Goblin]
Level 2 Reached!
Oliver would deal with the level up later, when he wasn¡¯t in the open. Gently pushing the unlocked door open, Oliver tentatively made his way inside the apartment complexes reception. This apartment complex was generally used by the university students as a Uni was quite nearby its location. Oliver didn¡¯t know why the students did just stay at the actual university, like Oliver stayed at his high school.
Reaching the reception, Oliver was met with a grisly scene, the floor was littered with blood and bones, bones that looked eerily human. But Oliver surprised himself by not dropping to the floor and emptying his stomach, had he changed so much already?
Instead, Oliver continued down the hallway, and in a brief moment of stupidity, he called out.
¡°Hello? Is anybody in here!¡± Oliver immediately cursed himself for his idiocy, he just alerted his presence to whatever killed the people at the reception desk. Then, perhaps Oliver¡¯s worst nightmare called out to him in an almost animalistic, guttural voice.
¡°yes¡±
The sound came from Oliver¡¯s left, down one of the hallways, he spun around the face the voice. And saw what looked like a taller, even more terrifying goblin. The thing stood at around 5¡¯6, with wiry muscles that stretched across its wicked frame, a forked tongue licked across its sharp, menacing teeth as it lazily brought the rusted gnarled short sword it was carrying to its shoulder. Much like the goblins, the only thing covering this things modesty was a filthy loincloth. Oliver was rooted to his feet in fear.
¡°well well, a green ogre, what a rare find, still weak too.¡± The creature remarked as it stalked closer, before stopping to sniff the air.
¡°yet you smell like a pink skin, how interesting. I shall see if you taste like one too, once I strip the skin from you¡¯re bones!¡± The thing roared before breaking into a sprint, rapidly closing the distance between the two.
It couldn¡¯t be more than 20 meters away now, Oliver thought as he finally broke free of his instinctual fear. Whatever this thing was, it was fast. He barely had time to raise his barbell to block the sword, but the Thing simply raised its leg and lashed out at Oliver¡¯s sternum, causing oliver to break down into an uncontrollable coughing fit, but Oliver¡¯s mind raced to find himself a way out of this grave situation. He quickly brought hiw club back up and barely blocked another sword strike that was aimed for his neck, but the sword slid off the barbell and sliced into Oliver¡¯s bicep. Oliver grit his teeth and hissed from the red hot pain shooting up his arm.
¡°You fight pathetically ogre, you¡¯re a disgrace to your own kind, Now be slain by a me, gabrok!¡± ¡®Gabrok¡¯ spat as he brought his sword back again for another strike that he would not miss. Oliver did the only thing that came to his mind at the time, he threw his barbell at Gabrok with surprising strength, whether it is from his level up or muscles responding to the distress he was in. Gabrok dodged out of the way, but was clipped on the shoulder by the heavy metal, which sent him spinning to the ground with a grunt of pain. Meanwhile Oliver had already started scrambling away, pumping his legs at fast as he could through the hallways, soon however, He found himself lost it the large apartment complex. That didn¡¯t stop Oliver though, after hearing Gabrok¡¯s scream of unbridled fury he only got faster.
As Oliver sprinted through the hallways, each step pounding against the lush carpet, his terror only increased. With every turn of the a corner he became convinced that Gabrok would be there, waiting for him, bloodied grotesque mouth salivating at the chance to rip Oliver¡¯s flesh from his bones. Son it became too much for Oliver as he suddenly turned, braced himself and charged straight through the nearest apartment door, breaking the wooden door apart as he barrelled through it. Oliver felt the wood break around, no doubt forming a few bruises on his shoulders and arms. When he opened his eyes however, he was met withtwo beautiful girls hugging the arms of one bewildredguy, who looked as surprised and terrified as Oliver felt. Before either could say something however, a chilling voice echoed from behind Oliver.
¡°found you, meat bags.¡±
Gabrok had caught up.
Chapter 3: Run
The second Oliver heard Gabrok¡¯s gravelly voice he sprung forward, yelling at the 3 bewildered residents as he sprinted back out of the dorm and down the hallway.
¡°FUCKING RUN!¡±
This seemed to work as the three jumped up and sprinted after him, the guy surprised Oliver by picking up one of the girls and putting on an incredible burst of speed, surpassing even Oliver. The other girl kept pace with Oliver for a moment, she looked at Oliver and jerked her head towards the other two.
¡°Follow us!¡± She shouted as she put on a burst of speed, catching up with the man. Oliver stared in amazement at them for a second before pumping his legs even harder after hearing Gabrok scream in fury behind him. Oliver barely managed to keep sight of the three as they twisted and turned through the maze like structure that was the apartment complex.
Soon he saw them pull into an open elevator, the second the three of them got in, the doors began closing, Oliver was beginning to despair, he just wasn¡¯t fast enough to get to the doors in time, the footsteps behind him were getting closer and closer, Oliver could imagine Gabrok already breathing down his neck, ready to slide his cruel clade between his ribs. Oliver couldn¡¯t blame the other three, it was only natural to take your own life precedent over others. That didn¡¯t make it any less painful, he was so close to salvation, so close it hurt. A thought continuously pounded Oliver¡¯s head as he ran.
I don¡¯t want to die.
Then a hand shot out of the closing elevator doors.
Jake was hiding in another room. Despite his knew found abilities it seemed that was all he could do. As the pounding footsteps drew closer the hands gripping his arms became tighter.
¡°It¡¯s okay, we¡¯re going to be fine. The chances of them choosing this dorm is tiny¡± He whispered gently to the girls.
¡°I¡¯d prefer for there to be no chance.¡± Blake grunted as her grip tightened.
¡°It- it sounds re-really big.¡± Sonya whispered. That it did, thought Jake. But what scared the three of them even more was the volatile screams of their hunter, Gabrok.
Soon the Footsteps got remarkably close, so close in fact, it sounded like they were about to pass their dor-BANG.
The three of them raised their arms to block the shower of splinters from the destroyed door, what was beyond the splinters surprised them even more though. Jake looked up to see a 7 and a half foot tall monster, it had to duck under the door frame to get inside! What surprised Jake however was the mixture of terror and relief on his face. Jake then mirrored the monster¡¯s expression of terror when he heard Gabrok snarl behind him. The monster seemed as scared of Gabrok as him because the next thing he knew it roared at him to run then dashed out of the room, Jake didn¡¯t need any convincing, picking up Sonya he yelled at Blake to run then sprinted after the Green man/monster. His enhanced speed rocketed him forward, he quickly surpassed the green monster and began sprinting for the elevator, Blake would know where to go. They had been planning an escape from the first floor for a while, now seemed like a good time.Find this and other great novels on the author''s preferred platform. Support original creators!
Soon enough he found the elevator, he jumped in, pressed the button for the roof and placed Sonya back on her feet, almost as soon as he pressed the button Blake burst into the elevator. As the door closed he saw the green monster desperately sprinting for their elevator, Gabrok rapidly gaining on him from behind. He was about to let the doors close, but he saw the look on the monster¡¯s face. It was terrified, which was natural, then when it met his eyes, it suddenly looked¡ Resigned?
Jake couldn¡¯t help himself, he shot out an arm and stopped the doors.
The second that hand stopped those doors Oliver began pumping his legs harder than ever before. He heard a grunt behind him then a searing pain across his back, he ignored this however and the second he reached the elevator he threw himself forward, slamming into the back wall of the elevator, causing the small box to shake from the sudden impact. He quickly turned around and saw Gabrok throw himself forward. With growing dread Oliver realised he was going to make it. Then Oliver did something he himself barely remembered doing, He pushed himself off the back of the elevator, pushing aside the other three inhabitants and laid a haymaker with the entirety of his weight behind it. As if by some miracle his heavy fist landed square in the surprised face of Gabrok who was still mid leap.
With the entirety of Oliver¡¯s considerable mass behind it, the punch stopped Gabrok in his tracks, his head snapped across whilst his body followed suit in an a gruesome fashion, yet Gabrok still managed to land unsteadily on his feet, though his long, hooked nose was crumpled up against his face. In the brief second before the elevator doors closed, they all saw Gabrok glare hatefully at Oliver with his mangled face twisted into an expression of overflowing violent fury.
*clink*
The doors finally closed, and the elevator began ascending. Oliver meanwhile crumpled against the wall, holding his bleeding bicep in his hand. His back felt a little wet aswell, he patted a hand to his back and hissed in pain when he withdrew his now bloody hand.
¡°So, um, my names Jake?¡±
Oliver looked up at the others in the elevator, he¡¯d completely forgotten about them. He considered getting on his feet but ultimately decided to sit on the floor for now.
¡°Y-yeah, my name¡¯s Oliver.¡±
¡°That¡¯s a weird name for a monster¡± The blonde girl innocently remarked, the guy-Jake scolded her for being rude.
¡°O-oh, I¡¯m not a monster, I used to be human, then I became this.¡± Oliver replied, the Sonya girl had the decency to look a bit sheepish.
¡°So you used to be human? How did you turn into this?¡± The other girl said, gesturing to Oliver¡¯s body.
¡°I killed something, then a got a message saying I was the 7th to do something, I don¡¯t really recall it that well, I kind of crashed before I could read it all.
¡°Crashed?¡±
¡°Wait, you¡¯re saying you¡¯re race changed for being the 7th to kill a monster?¡± Jake said anxiously.
¡°That doesn¡¯t matter right now, he¡¯s injured!¡± Jake was quickly cowed by the surprising fierceness of Sonya, then Oliver was surprised once again when she gently placed her hands his wounds, and before his very eyes a soft glow started emanating from Sonya¡¯s hands. She continued this action until the elevator reached the roof, when she pulled her hands away, Oliver¡¯s wound had healed over, only a dark scar and a dull throb remained.
Before Sonya healed Oliver¡¯s back, the four of them carefully left the elevator and scanned the roof. It appeared to be clear of hostiles, but they scanned over it several more times, couldn¡¯t be too careful. The stairwell doors were padlocked from inside too, which was a comforting thought as that was one way Gabrok couldn¡¯t get to them through, now they just had to hope he didn¡¯t know how to use an elevator.
Once they were all satisfied with the safety of the roof Sonya had Oliver lay down so she could heal the cut on his back. However, before Sonya could get started on Oliver¡¯s wound, a message interrupted Oliver.

Chapter 4: Revenge on Gabrok
While Sonya healed Oliver¡¯s back the four of them discussed their abilities, Oliver was able to understand from them that when you kill you¡¯re first monster, you are added to what they call ¡®the system¡¯. It is when you are first added that the system gives you a small jumpstart, or a skill in the case of Jake, Blake and Sonya. Oliver¡¯s race change probably happened because he was among the first to kill a monster, so the system awarded him with something bigger, such as a race change.
The skill that Jake and Blake received was called [quickstep], it was a skill that allowed them to temporarily increase their movement speed, at the cost of mana. Sonya also received a different skill, [Heal], a skill that allowed her to rapidly speed up the recovery time on wounds. The limitation was however that it could not be used on herself, and it only speeds up recover, so wounds the body cannot recover from, such as the loss of a limb, would not be under the effect of her skill.
Another thing Oliver learned from the group was that each skill can be levelled up through continued use, and when a skill reaches level 6, they are ranked up. The ranks of a skill can be Novice, Adept, Expert, Master and Grand Master. The time to takes to rank up apparently grows exponentially.
When Oliver asked how they knew all this, they responded that once you gain a skill for the first time, you can ask the system from help about skills. This does not seem to work if you do not possess any skills though. Oliver grew increasingly annoyed at the system, because of this the system could have any number of additional features that they wouldn¡¯t have a clue about.
¡°Okay, we need to talk about that quest you got, Oliver.¡± Jakes stern voice quickly woke Oliver from his angry thoughts of the system.
¡°Okay.¡± He simply replied, waiting for Jake to start outlining a plan. Oliver hadn¡¯t been with this group long, but he knew from watching his interactions with the girls, and how he spoke with such command in his voice, that Jake was shaping up to be their leader. Which Oliver was more than fine with, if anything, Oliver was always more of a sheep than a Shepard. Responsibility intimidated him, even more so now that lives would be in his hands.
¡°First, you said the Quest mentioned something about parties?¡± Oliver nodded.
¡°Then we need to test this out ourselves, sharing experience is something that could prove vital to us.¡± He finished, turning to Sonya he said with a tone of command in his voice. ¡°Invite Sonya to Party¡± There was a moment of silence before Sonya perked up at something in front of her.
¡°It worked!¡± Jake quickly repeated the gesture to Blake and Oliver.
You have been Invited to join [Jake¡¯s party]
Accept or decline?
¡°Accept.¡±
The four of them couldn¡¯t help but smile at this, this was the first time the four of them felt some semblance of control and hope in their situation.
¡°Alright, Oliver¡¯s quest should be shared now, now hear me out here, I think we should complete it as fast as possible. Gabrok is strong enough on his own, we don¡¯t need for him to have a hunting party as well.¡± Jake finished, looking each of them in the eye, daring them to disagree with him. Oliver wasn¡¯t, he needed all the help he could get.
¡°I agree with you Jake, I doubt his hunting party will stop with Oliver, we¡¯re probably next on his hit list.¡± Blake agreed with Jake, Sonya gave Blake and hug and smiled at Jake, now Oliver felt like he was intruding on something special. After moment though, the three broke up, Jake then surprised Oliver again when he pulled out 3 large kitchen knives, handing one to both Oliver and Blake, though the knife was little more than a shiv in Oliver¡¯s large hands.
¡°So, uh, what¡¯s the plan?¡± Oliver coughed out meekly.
¡°This is what I was thinking.¡±
Oliver stood in the hallway, his legs getting close to shaking. He looked behind him and saw jake and Blake stepping into two dorms that were facing each other in the hallway. Sonya staying in one of the dorms further back, away from the impending action.

Jake¡¯s idea was fairly simple and straightforward, but still effective. Oliver was to draw out Gabrok, then Sprint down the hallway towards the waiting Jake and Blake, who would then ambush Gabrok as he ran after Oliver. A simple plan, and a terrifying one. Oliver roughly cleared his throat before shouting out at the top of his lungs.
¡°FACE ME GABROK YOU SPINELESS SACK OF SHIT!¡±
For a several minutes, it was only silence.
Then.
¡°You¡¯ve got quite the set of balls, ogre.¡± Gabrok had arrived, he rounded the corner of the corridor, looking smug and walking lazily to Oliver, like he had already won the battle. Oliver¡¯s grip around his knife tightened as he prepared to start running.
¡°Now die.¡± Gabrok shot forward like a cannonball, Oliver threw himself backwards and sprinted for Jake and Blake in response, when Gabrok had just ran past them them they shot out of their dorms, cutting off Gabrok¡¯s escape route and surrounded him in the corridor. Gabrok came to a halt and looked around himself, seeing that he was surrounded.
¡°Smart move pink-skins.¡± He sneered at Jake, Jake raised his knife and prepared to activate his skill.
¡°Too bad I¡¯m smarter, Asgore!¡± Gabrok called out to someone behind Oliver, He quickly spun around only to see something that would haunt his dreams forever.
A goblin wearing leather armour walked out of a dorm room, dragging behind him the corpse of Sonya. In his other hand was a small short bow.
¡°What?¡± Jake whispered to himself, his haunted eyes staring at the lifeless eyes of Sonya, Blake dropped to her knees, hugging herself while trying desperately not to look at Sonya¡¯s corpse. Oliver was speechless, this was the first death, it was to surreal, how?
¡°Did you really think I would gather my hunters in one fell swoop? No you dumbasses! I gathered them one at a time, and one was all I needed to find you.¡± Gabrok sneered at the despairing humans, suddenly, Jake screamed and threw himself at Gabrok, his eyes losing all semblance of sanity.
¡°NO!¡± Oliver screamed, but it was too late. With an almost lazy swing of his sword Gabrok easily sunk his sword halfway into the skull of Jake, the superior reach of Gabrok¡¯s weapon showing its deadly efficiency. Jake¡¯s body immediately slumped to the ground, Blake screamed and leaped to her feet, turning to sprint away from the monster that just killed her friends. Before she could even get 5 feet however, an arrow struck her in the shoulder, sending her spinning to the ground. Oliver whipped his head around and saw that goblin with its bow drawn, this time on him, it didn¡¯t fire though.
¡°This is just pathetic.¡± Gabrok remarked as he walked over to the whimpering form of Blake, sword raised and ready to end her life.
Oliver could stand by no longer. He leapt forward and broke into a dead sprint for Gabrok, expecting an arrow to impale him at any moment, though that moment never came. He quickly reached Gabrok and threw a wide punch at the bastard, Gabrok ducked under the heavy blow and grabbed the now outstretched arm, Using Oliver¡¯s momentum he turned his body and executed a perfect over-the-shoulder body throw, Oliver felt his world go upside down before he was slammed back down to earth, the floorboards creaking under his considerable weight.
¡°You fight worse than a goblin! Even if I didn¡¯t throw you, you would have fell over anyway! Are you still getting used to your body you fat oaf?¡± Gabrok snarled as he thrust his sword down in one fluid motion, seamless from his shoulder throw, Oliver watched as the blade went straight through Blake¡¯s chest and skewered her heart, she let out one last breath before the life left her eyes forever.
¡°You Pinkskins are so weak, so fragile. It¡¯s disgusting.¡± Oliver could only watch as Blake¡¯s life was ended in an instant, was this how fragile lives were? Was there something wrong with their plan? Should they have planned more? He didn¡¯t know, this was all too much, until recently the scariest thing he did was math homework. Gabrok turned to him.
¡°Get up you dumb oaf, I want to kill at least you on your feet.¡± Oliver quickly scrambled to his feet and watched Gabrok for any sign of him attacking, Gabrok saw this and wasted no time, he lunged forward with his sword, Oliver ducked out of the way but Gabrok spun around, using his momentum to send a bony elbow into Oliver¡¯s side, but Oliver barely registered the hit and simply drove a fist into Gabrok¡¯s left shoulder blade which sent the hobgoblin into the wall, Gabrok bounced off the wall and landed in a backwards roll, putting some distance between him and Oliver, his arm hanging limply at his side. Oliver grinned, he knew he felt something crack. He threw himself once more at the Hobgoblin but his eyes widened as he saw Gabrok jump off the wall, spin his body around and yell,
¡°POWER OVERWHELMING!¡± Just before his glowing red foot collided with the side of Oliver¡¯s face who was quickly sent reeling into the ground.
Oliver quickly got to his feet and felt his face, a black eye was quickly forming, but aside from that he seemed fine, but what was that? He felt like he just got hit by a truck! Oliver pushed the thoughts about that power and the pain in his face out of his mind, he had to kill Gabrok while his arm was still dislocated. But when he looked at his foe, he saw him slam himself against a wall, forcefully pushing his arm back into place. There goes that chance, Oliver thought gravely to himself before once again throwing a punch at the hobgoblin, Gabrok fluidly ducked away from the punch, so Oliver quickly sent a kick at him. In response Gabrok threw himself to the floor and kicked out the only leg Oliver was standing on. He quickly fell to the ground and before he could get up Gabrok put the cold steel of his blade at Oliver¡¯s throat.
Oliver¡¯s heart was pounding in his chest, the realisation that he was going to die striking him painfully and repeatedly. He looked up at the eyes of his killer, the yellow eyes that seemed to sneer at him without even words, taunting him for his weakness.
¡°Idiot oaf, you are weal, you fight like you were once a dwarf and you are quick to despair. You disgust me in more ways than I care to count. I have bested you in what your kind are supposed to excel at, close combat. Therefore, I exercise my right as Captain, to do the following.¡± He raised his sword, Oliver started at the ceiling, knowing his end was near and there was nothing he could do about it. He looked at the bodies of Jake, Sonya and Blake, closing his eyes he them a mental apology for his weaknesses, he should have protected them, paid them back for saving his own life. He looked up at Gabrok who glared down at him, before speaking in a sadistic tone of command.
¡°You work for me now, Ogre.¡±
Chapter 5: Grunt Work
Oliver stared up at Gabrok, mouth hanging open in an almost comical expression of disbelief.
¡°What?¡±
¡°You heard me, now get the hell up.¡± Gabrok snarled, kicking Oliver hard in the ribs.
¡°Why the FUCK, would I follow you! You just killed three people!¡± Oliver shouted at Gabrok as he slowly picked himself up, ignoring the constant throbbing of his bruised face. But almost fell back down immediately when Gabrok shot forward and pressed the blade of his sword against Oliver¡¯s neck.
¡°You will follow me, Ogre. I am a war captain for a reason, so unless you want me to hunt you down and feed you to the goblins, you, will, LISTEN!¡± Gabrok was almost screaming by the end, the cold brutality on his face causing Oliver to shrink back from the shorter hobgoblin.
Oliver weighed his options, he could run away from the hobgoblin when he wasn¡¯t watching, but Oliver didn¡¯t doubt that he would hunt him down with his hunting party, and while Oliver didn¡¯t know the exact limits of their tracking ability, he¡¯d been able to find him in the small time space before he and Jake set their trap. Which couldn¡¯t have been more than 10 minutes. He quickly ruled out this option in his head.
His second option was to follow Gabrok and heed his command, which Oliver immediately ruled out.
The third and final option was to serve Gabrok, gain strength then kill the bastard. Oliver liked this option, though it would be a tough road. Gabrok had that, ¡®Power Overwhelming¡¯ skill, which put Oliver far too fast for his liking. Oliver was quickly pulled from his thoughts when Gabrok started applying pressure to the blade at his throat.
¡°Okay, I¡¯ll serve you!¡± Oliver stammered out, flinching away from the blade.
Quest failed
¡°Good, Ogre¡¯s are usually good fighters, and I¡¯ll need every hand I can get when the Horde arrives¡¡± Gabrok replied, growing quieter by the end you the sentence.
¡°Okay oaf, I hereby name you Oaf. This will be your name until you earn a worthy one.¡±
¡°What, I already have a na-¡°
¡°Shut up oaf! You serve me now! Obey!¡± Oliver knew what Gabrok was doing here, he was asserting his command, testing Oliver for any sign of disobedience. He would have to play along.
¡°Yes, captain.¡± Oliver muttered, curious to see if Gabrok would react to him using his title.
¡°Good, now judging by your pathetic fighting, I¡¯m judging your only about level 2?¡± Oliver nodded.
¡°Okay, bring me 20 left goblin ears, preferably stray goblins, I don¡¯t want to start a turf war.¡± Gabrok must have noticed Oliver¡¯s confusing as he continued that the goblins who looked untrained and were poorly equipped.
¡°Do I get a weapon?¡± Oliver probed.
¡°What? Are you an Ogre or a dirt worm? They¡¯re goblins for Azerith¡¯s sake! If you breath on them too hard they¡¯ll die, now get out of my face or I¡¯ll gut you. And if I don¡¯t have 20 LEFT goblin ears before sundown, I¡¯ll hunt you down myself!¡± Gabrok was once again screaming spittle everywhere, and it was more than enough to get Oliver moving, after almost flying down the stairs he reached the front door, gently pushing it open he poked his head outside, the street was littered with a few ¡®stray¡¯ goblins. Oliver stepped out from the door and was quickly spotted by a goblin, using stealth would have been too difficult with his large frame. Speaking of his large frame, Oliver would need to get used to it. His mind was still used to manoeuvring a six foot body, not a hulking mass of green that towered at over seven and a half feet tall.Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation.
¡°GRAAH!¡± Oliver watched as the goblin charged him, his war cry drawing other goblins towards their location. The goblins charge was quickly stopped by Oliver grabbing the creature around the throat. His long arms displaying their superiority in an unarmed fight. Oliver hefted the creature to eye height using both his arms with little difficulty. He stared at the creatures eyes, the wild animalistic look to them grew mazy as its flow of oxygen was cut off. He thought about why Gabrok was so smart, yet goblins were so, primal, actually no. Gabrok¡¯s pet goblin, Asgore, seemed to display some semblance of intelligence. Oliver¡¯s brow furrowed, just the thought of that fucking goblin made Oliver¡¯s blood boil. Because of that fucking thing Sonya was killed, kind Sonya who healed his wounds with a gentle smile.
*CRACK*
Oliver had snapped the goblins neck, its bulbous head hung limply to the side, eyes staring listlessly at the void. Oliver dropped it in disgust, then dropped to one knee, only just now realising that he didn¡¯t have a tool to cut the goblin¡¯s ears off.
¡°fuck you Gabrok.¡±
Oliver pressed his knee against the goblins back, holding him down whilst he gradually twisted the things head around, when he met significant resistance, he suddenly wrenched it¡¯s head hard to side and towards him. Which was met with a satisfying pop. This was the killing method Oliver had been using for the past eight goblins, it was a far cleaner killing method than what he¡¯d been using before, plus it put his considerable weight to his advantage. Oliver sighed and wiped his brow with a bloody hand, now it was time for the messy work.
He grabbed the Goblins left ear, braced his other hand against its head and pulled. With a wet tearing sound the ear was ripped off the goblins head. Oliver didn¡¯t even blink at the gruesome sight, it got a lot easier after the thirteenth time. After the gruesome deed was finished Oliver gathered up the other nineteen ears he placed on the ground and began his return to Gabrok. His little hunting trip had brought him pretty far down the street, though he could still see the apartment complex that Gabrok was using as his barracks. When Oliver saw the sun getting close to reaching the ground. While he walked Oliver opened his status.
Status

Endurance: 8
Intelligence: 2

His strength and Endurance had increased, but his agility hadn¡¯t changed, this made Oliver uncomfortable as he remembered how easily Gabrok had been able to chase him down. For now, he would hold onto his unallocated points, He didn¡¯t want to make any irreversible mistakes.
Soon enough he reached the complex and has met with a surprise, two goblins stood guard outside the main entrance, both had bows slung across their backs and daggers at their waists. He guessed that Gabrok formed his hunting party. As he reached the complex the two goblin guards eyed him with uncertainty, before seeing the bloody bundle of ears in his arms and sneering at him. Oliver did his best to ignore them and entered the building. Gabrok was talking to, that goblin.
¡°Asgore, scout out the Orc encampment, Somethings been hunting wargs and I want to know what.¡± Gabrok then turned to Oliver, taking a second to register his arrival.
¡°Oh good, you¡¯ve returned oaf.¡± Oliver handed him the goblin ears, Gabrok scanned over them for a fraction of a second before tossing them over his shoulder, hitting a disgruntled Asgore in the eye.
¡°Good, I take it you¡¯ve reached level three?¡± Oliver¡¯s tormentor enquired, Oliver nodded in response, letting out a grunt.
¡°I want you to focus on strength and endurance, your race should automatically give you this with each level up, but I want you to be my melee fighter. Your race is also known for raising stats through training so we¡¯ll utelise that for raising agility.¡± Oliver watched as Gabrok planned his very future. Oliver couldn¡¯t disagree with him though, with his size and weight he was a natural built tank. He just didn¡¯t like Gabrok doing the planning.
Gabrok finally dismissed Oliver, who immediately when straight into one of the dorms, locked the door with 3 different locks, placed a chair, the couch and a minifridge against the wall, before jumping on a bed and drifting off to sleep in an instant. Thus ending Oliver¡¯s third day of the apocalypse.
The second the sun rose though, Oliver was woken up by the sound of heated voices through the walls. One voice was particularly hard to make out, it sounded extremely guttural and almost animalistic.
¡°Captain Gabrok, the orc¡¯s march for our location. They intend for war.¡±
Chapter 6
[NOTICE] Changing Oliver¡¯s height to 6 feet tall.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
¡°Sir, orc¡¯s march for our position.¡±
¡°Orc¡¯s? Bloodthirsty beasts must of ran out¡¯a food.¡± Gabrok snarled gravely, or it would have come across gravely if not for the savage smile stretched across his jaw.
¡°Get the Ogre, we have¡ preparations to make.¡± Not daring to disobey Gabrok the disturbed goblin slinked towards the Ogre¡¯s room.
Asgore didn¡¯t like the Ogre, he always the fatass glaring at him out the corner of his handsome eye. If Asgore had to guess it would be for killing his squishy companions, with that kind of attitude the fatty wouldn¡¯t survive long. Asgore chuckled to himself as he pictures the oaf getting clubbed to death by goblins. That would be a sight to see, maybe Asgore would make it a reality¡
Asgore¡¯s treacherous thoughts were interrupted when he reached the aforementioned Ogre¡¯s room, knocking loudly on the door Asgore barked at the Ogre to get his ass in gear. Whilst waiting for the lazy bastard to get ready the goblin mused to himself what Gabrok had planned for him, his conclusion brought a rare smile to the goblins face.
¡°This is going to be fun¡¡±
Oliver didn¡¯t like waking up early, or so he decided as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. It was barely even light outside for fucks sake!
Even so, Oliver got up relatively fast, but not because of the goblin¡
¡°Lowly Oaf! If I don¡¯t see your¡¯ green ass out here in three seconds, I will neuter you and feed your manhood to Ripjaw!¡±
Oliver didn¡¯t know who this Ripjaw was, but he didn¡¯t sound like someone he wanted handling his manly bits. Quickly throwing on his scarce belongs, Oliver dragged the previously placed furnature from the door and stepped out to see the goblin fucker.
¡°Finally finished fatass?¡±
¡°Yeah, I¡¯m done, midget.¡± Oliver muttered under his breath, Asgore glowered scathingly up at the towering ogre, resisting the urge to gut the man then and there.
¡°Good, come with me, Gabrok calls for you.¡± Obliging the goblin that currently out-ranked him, Oliver followed.
Soon enough Oliver found himself standing in front of Gabrok, who¡¯s gaze was setting Oliver¡¯s hair on end.
¡°I¡¯ll make it quick Oaf, the pig bastards have decided to attack, my scouts tell me they¡¯ll be here within the hour. Which means it¡¯s finally time for you to prove your worth, on the battlefield.¡±This novel''s true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
Gesturing for Oliver to follow him, Gabrok lead the confused ogre out of the building, where a large squadron of goblins, numbering somewhere around 70 were gathered.
¡°This will be your stage Oaf, where you¡¯ll prove your worth as a soldier in my ranks. Survive the frontline and I¡¯ll consider you notable.¡±
The ¡®squadron¡¯ of goblins was more of an angry mob, a sprawling, fighting frothing mass of little green animals, barely an inch from eating one another. The elite goblin ninjas were no-where to be seen. Oliver guessed it was because Gabrok didn¡¯t want to waste his precious unit so early.
¡± Good luck oaf, I will be in the building forming the second line, do NOT let the pigs inside, or I¡¯ll kill ya¡¯.¡± Gabrok finished with a rare smile, seemingly happy about the coming battle. It gave Oliver the creeps.
Oliver watched Gabrok waltz into the building, slamming the large doors shut with a resounding bang. Oliver was left standing in front of the pseudo base with a small army of writhing green beasts.
¡°I don¡¯t even have a fucking weapon¡¡± Oliver complained as he examined his large fists, but this was interrupted by a goblin kicking him in the shins. A loud curse and a dead goblin later Oliver found himself waiting for a sign of ¡®Orcs¡¯. Which was harder than it should be, probably because he didn¡¯t know what an orc looked like.
¡°Fucking Gabrok, I¡¯ll break his shitty neck, twist off his head and pl-GET OFF ME¡± Another goblin learned the hard way not to bite the big green man. Just as Oliver was considering beating the little shits away with a brick, a loud screeching pierced his ears.
¡°RIEEEEEEEEEEEE¡± Oliver¡¯s head shot up so fast he almost gave himself whiplash, a large group of 20 obese looking men were charging the group from around the side of the adjacent building. Oliver squinted and began to make out the finer details of the things, he wished he hadn¡¯t.
The ¡®obese men¡¯ were more accurately bipedal pigs, huge things with the body of an upright pig with humanoid arms, lengthened legs and a face that¡¯d make a goblin turn away, the orcs were not pretty creatures. In fact, they were quite terrifying, towering at just under 6 feet tall the things were at a comparable size to Oliver. The fact they were unarmed didn¡¯t help.
Oliver was shocked again when the army of Goblins threw themselves at the orcs, seemingly impervious to fear the gutsy creatures started biting and clawing the hideous orcs. Though it was quickly established that the goblins were far out classed, goblins died by the dozen as the orcs regained their senses and began beating the little beasts down.
Oliver, watching his meat shields fall by the dozen, swore under his breath and jumped into the carnage himself. Choosing a lone orc fighting a small group of goblins as his target, he threw out a leg and, using all his momentum, stepped down on the orcs knee-cap. A loud squeal meet his ears as Oliver cringed and shut out the screams of his mind, utilising his still falling momentum once more, Oliver punched the back of the orcs head with all his strength, the beasts head snapped forward and the body quickly followed, carrying the orc straight to the pavement, hitting the ground with a loud thump. Oliver jumped back and massaged his bruised fist, perhaps punching the base skull wasn¡¯t his best idea.
Notice: Killed [level 2 Orc]
Pushing the pain of his now throbbing hand out of his mind, Oliver searched for his next target, but his target found him first. A fist thudded into Oliver¡¯s shoulder with a meaty thwack, sending the great ogre reeling. Quickly spinning around Oliver was met with a quick jab to the face, Oliver¡¯s vision went briefly white before quickly coming back into focus. Holding a hand to his bruised face, Oliver observed his opponent. The orc was slightly larger than the others, and held himself with confidence. With a start, Oliver realised the orc held his fists in a basic boxer stance. Before Oliver could question this further the orc rushed forward and threw a fast jap for Oliver¡¯s face.
Blocking the blow with raised arms, Oliver thought to something he remembered reading somewhere, ¡°The best defence, is offence.¡± Deciding to follow this advice Oliver began whaling on the bewildered orc, he threw fists at everything he could see, one heavy hit after another hit the orc, a lucky hit on the orcs wrist was met with a sharp snap as the Orc pulled the arm back in pain. This was the wrong move, Oliver seeing the opening drew his entire body back, before hurling it forward, throwing his shoulder into the momentum, twisting his hips to empower the punch and hurling his fist forward with his entire weight behind it. The blow glanced off the orcs chin as it was throw backwards, crushing a surprised goblin beneath it.
Notice: Killed [level 2 Orc]
However, Oliver didn¡¯t have any time to admire his handiwork as he glanced around him, despite all odds the goblins had killed 15 of the orcs, though now barely 12 goblins remained. Leaving 3 orcs remaining, sadly these were the biggest, and deadliest of the bunch. Oliver watched the monstrous orcs chew through the angry goblins like they were glass. Shaking his fist to relieve the pain, Oliver sighed and ran forward, preparing to tackle the nearest of the Orcs.
