Drewmore was quite a the brilliant scientist, he studied genetic engineering, often a noble area of expertise. Genetic engineering was responsible for greatly increasing crop yields, making animals provide more food and making healthy foods, even healthier. Though what Drewmore was currently undertaking would not be considered noble in any sense of the word.
¡°Okay Thor, its just going to be a little prick, then it¡¯s over.¡± He gently said to the young boy. The young boy blinked in response, which was about all he could be with the multitude of heavy straps holding him down, preventing any and all movement.
Drewmore did not like this work, Subjecting children to operations and actions against their will honestly disgusted him. Were it not for his family being held hostage he would have no part in this, he would even go out of his way to prevent such heinous acts against children. Something he would finally be acting on. Drewmore was not a stupid man, despite his excellency in genetics, he was also a genius in the hacking department. Not that anyone knew that, his youth hadn¡¯t exactly been legal. And so it was using his expertise in hacking that he found out his family had been dead for years. The bonds the organisation were using to hold him down never actually existed. So what was stopping him from acting now?
Drewmore gently slid the needle in Thor¡¯s strapped down arm, inside the needle were enough tranquilisers to take down an elephant, such extreme measures were more than necessary against the organisations only successful super soldier.
As Thor fell asleep, Drewmore said quietly to himself, ¡°soon.¡±
When Thor finally awoke, he found himself back in his room/cell. A simple room with a bed, and a table. Thor didn¡¯t spend much time here anyway, most of his time was eaten up by combat training and¡ experiments.
Thor scratched his newest scar, a long diagonal cut across his chest, he received this when the director wanted to activate his ¡®bloodlust¡¯, which was probably yet another way for the director to unleash Thor on the battlefield, though he seemed far more adamant about this ¡®bloodlust¡¯ than anything before it.
The director thought the best way to do this was to induce fear of death into Thor, so he Threw Thor in a cage after drenching him in fresh pig blood. Within this cage was 3 starved grizzly bears. Thor could only run away, and even with his enhanced body, grizzly bears were still many times faster than him. The director was furious when ¡®bloodlust¡¯ didn¡¯t activate, so furious that he immediately subjected Thor to ¡®electro therapy¡¯. Which was as far from therapy as one could possibly get. After this He was dragged into an operating room for treatment. This novel is published on a different platform. Support the original author by finding the official source.
Though Thor was glad the scientist today was Drewmore, he was always nice and kind to Thor, he even played catch with him once! Of course, the director forbade any such activities immediately after. If Thor were to think about it, he viewed Drewmore as a sort of, father figure. However, Thor¡¯s thoughts were interrupted when Drewmore threw open the door to his cell and threw Thor a handgun.
¡°Kid, were breaking out of here, now.¡±
Thor and Drewmore sprinted down the hallway, pushing other scientists aside and gunning down any security guards unfortunate enough to block their path. Soon enough, the hallways were bathed in red as the emergency alarm screamed around them. Thor ignored the alarm and the rooms they were running past, the electroshock chamber, the arena, solitary confinement. He pushed it all out of his head and focused on protecting Drewmore, calling up on all his combat training as he threw himself around bullets and killing whatever shot them.
After breaking the knee of one of the guards and ending his life with a bullet to the temple he heard Drewmore shout out.
¡°Hurry Thor! The elevator is just up ahe-¡° But Drewmore was cut short by a bullet to the small of his back, the kind man crumpled like a card stand as the director himself was revealed behind him, his elite guards training their guns on Thor.
¡°Impressive effort Drewmore, did you really think I wouldn¡¯t notice you snooping around the data banks? Thor, Get over here, NOW!¡± But Thor wasn¡¯t listening, he was too busy staring at the barely breathing form of Drewmore. His young mind barely comprehending what had happened directly in front of him. Then, as if a switch had been flicked in Thor¡¯s mind, his vision was drenched in red.
¡°Boy, I will give you to the count of 3, 1, 2-What?¡± Thor shot forward like a cannon ball, driving his fist so hard into the jaw of one of the 4 guards that the man¡¯s head snapped with a sickening crunch.
¡°It¡¯s- it¡¯s happening? But how!¡± The director said to himself as Thor ducked under a hail of bullets before snapping out a leg and breaking both the kneecaps of another guard with a wet crack.
¡°Of course! It wasn¡¯t physical trauma that was the activation, it wasn¡¯t quite mental either, it was emotional. This is a major breakthrough!¡± The director shouted, growing increasingly excited even as another guards life was ended.
¡°Now that¡¯s enough of that boy.¡± The director commanded as Thor snapped the spine of the last guard, as he turned to the director however, the man pulled out a small device with a button, a sadistic smile grew on the vile man¡¯s face as he pressed it, a huge amount of electricity discharged itself through a chip installed at the back of Thor¡¯s neck, enough electricity to put a grizzly bear into a state of extreme shock from nothing but the pain.
Thor slightly twitched.
¡°What the fu-¡° Thor¡¯s hand shot out and grabbed the director by the face, before remorselessly slamming the directors head down, splattering it against the hard, sterile floor. Thor didn¡¯t even look at the director, instead he gently picked up Drewmore and stalked towards the elevator, his concern for Drewmore barely winning out against his bottomless hunger for another chance to kill.
Meanwhile a mysterious entity was watching over Thor with great interest.
"So his name is Thor...."
Chapter 2: Happy Days must come to an end.
Drewmore gripped the side of the bed even harder, as yet another coughing fit wracked his body, the bitter taste of iron filling his pallet. The hand on his shoulder gripped him nervously, he turned to the owner of the hand, Thor, his son.
Thor had been genetically engineered to expand his adolescent, because of this ability when Thor was biologically 16 he looked like a 9-year-old, these genetics were implanted within him since at has been proven that children can soak up far more knowledge and are more susceptible to brainwashing than adults.to counter how long it would take to produce these super soldiers, when Thor turned 16 he began aging rapidly to the physical age of 17 in a period of just 4 years, this aspect of his genetics were a sore point for argument among the scientists, as it could irreversibly damage his hormones. Now biologically 20, though physically and mentally 17. Thor had grown to 6¡¯6 foot and was built like a line backer. A body manufactured through countless experiments and procedures to be the ultimate killing machine now tenderly held the shoulder of the man he viewed as family, as his father.
Drewmore was on his deathbed, he knew this. Cold grey eyes glanced up at his son, Thor. He didn¡¯t originally want Thor to see him like this, weak and feeble. But Thor was adamant about staying with him, till death would they part, and it appeared that time would soon be upon them. Drewmore started feeling his body grow increasingly numb, fear began to wash over him, death was an instinctual fear bred into every creature after all, but the hand at his shoulder reassured him. He closed his eyes as the memories of his time with Thor filled his consciousness.
The time they went fishing in the rivers of the amazon, Thor hadn¡¯t learned how to control his strength at that time, so instead of using the expensive rods Drewmore had brought with him, he taught him to swim. It had turned out to be a great exercise for controlling his strength as simply forcing the water back as hard as he could was not a very efficient method, he had to learn finesse and how to push, not force. Soon enough, Thor was swimming around their dingy armed with a sharp stick, determined to spear something whilst Drewmore fished from the boat. Thor had only been 9 at the time, so Drewmore had been rightfully surprised when Thor pulled a small crocodile onto the boat, with a stick jutting out of the modern dinosaur¡¯s head.If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Another memory flowed through him, Thor¡¯s first day of school. The boy was only 10 at the time, and was overwhelmed by the amount he didn¡¯t know about the world, every day he ran back to their house with new facts and trivia he learned from geography class about the foreign countries in the world. The sheer size of the world seemed to amaze Thor to no end, so, with the small fortune Drewmore had been given by the government, after they learned of the compound and the various unethical experiments, he promised Thor they would travel the world together. A promise Drewmore fulfilled.
They ventured to the beaches of Hawaii, where they were both taught how to surf by a kind local. The mountains of New Zealand, where Thor found his passion for hiking, he often told Drewmore of the wondrous sights only he witnessed after hiking through the harsh mountains for days on end. To the skies of Chile where they both learned how to sky dive and wing suit, something Thor and Drewmore himself fell in love with, the sheer freedom of flying through the skies was as addictive as a drug.
Drewmore and Thor had ventured the globe, participating in adventure after adventure, soon however, their adventures had to come to an end, Drewmore had never fully recovered from when he shot, he was often ill and was vulnerable to sickness. And so, their travels were concluded after a little under 4 years of travel. Less than 3 months after settling down though, Drewmore¡¯s condition rapidly grew volatile, it didn¡¯t matter what doctor they tried, non could do anything, Drewmore often wondered if the director had put something dangerous in those bullets. Another coughing fit brought Drewmore out of his thoughts.
Breathing gradually turned to gentle wheezing, Drewmore turned to Thor, placing a hand above the one on his shoulder and spoke to the seemingly stoic young man.
¡°Thor, my boy. My adventure nears its end, but yours has only just begun. I know you¡¯ve forgiven me for what I did in that compound, but I could never forgive myself.¡± Thor shook his head at him. Drewmore smiled at the young man¡¯s kindness.
¡°Thor, you are strong, stronger than even you yourself think you are. I have completel and utte-*cough* utter faith in you.¡± Drewmore stared hard into the eyes of Thor, ignoring the tiredness that tried to force him into an endless slumber
¡°I have one last piece of advice for you Thor, If the world pushes you down.¡± Thor spoke up, something he rarely did even around Drewmore, his deep baritone voice reverberating around the room.
¡°Break its knee caps and use it as a step ladder.¡± He finished for Drewmore, steely grey eyes beginning to have hints of moisture. Drewmore nodded at him before closing his eyes and letting out one last breath, Thor watched in frozen horror as his chest ceased all movement. Hunching over the body, Thor gave him one last hug, cursing the world for taking away the very last thing he had, and cursing himself for being unable to cry even for the death of his own father.
Chapter 3
Heavy footsteps filled the crowded halls.
Curious heads turned, sharp whispering pierced his ears like knives, jutting fingers pointed at him accusingly.
¡°Jesus fuck, he¡¯s huge!¡±
¡°Told you.¡±
¡°Should get em¡¯ on the rugby team.¡±
A homeroom door smoothly slides open, the juvenile conversations of the room rapidly grew quiet in the presence of the large newcomer.
¡°That¡¯s him right?¡±
¡°Who else could it be?¡±
¡°Damn he¡¯s enormous!¡±
Thor quietly snorted to himself, these things always repeated themselves. Well, they usually did in the other schools. This new one wasn¡¯t shaping up to be much different. This was understandable though, Thor towered above the students like a terrifying monolith, in both height and mass. He understood it could be seen as quite threatening.
Finding a solitary seat near a window, Thor amused himself with a little game he played when visiting a new school, spot the groups. You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version.
His cold gaze landed on a group of girls with shortened dresses crowed around someone¡¯s phone, Groupies.
A small group of guys gathered around each other exchanging cards of a sort? Nerds.
A large group of students chatting with one another, normies.
And finally, a small, tightknit group of students chatting with one another, each held an impressive amount of confidence and somehow radiated above their classmates. Gazing around Thor saw other students sneak glances at the afor-mentioned group in admiration. Ahh, the Idols.
The Idols group consisted of two jaw-droppingly beautiful girls, one annoyingly handsome boy and a well-built boy who looked fresh off the football field.
¡°Pretty clique¡± Thor thought amusingly to himself as began to spin a pen between his fingers. Trained eyes followed the cheap post-office pen spin and flip around his scarred dextrous fingers, just as Thor was about to attempt the fabled Index-Pinkie triple flip, darkness consumed his vision.
It took a full second for Thor¡¯s disciplined mind to catch up to his empowered senses, as far as he knew he was still spinning his now empty fingers. It happened instantaneously, one second Thor was sitting in a classroom, next he was suspended in what seemed like endless purgatory.
Thor blinked, or he thought he did, he honestly wasn¡¯t sure at this point. But when his eyelids opened again, he was met with the disturbingly close face of Mr Handsome from the Idol group. Thor felt cold rock agaisnt his back, he was on his back?
¡°Hey guys! He¡¯s awake, though he looks kind of pale.¡± The guy called back to an unknown group
¡°That¡¯s probably his natural complexion, don¡¯t be an ass about it.¡± An unknown voice responded back.
¡°Shut up guys, give him some room. Hi my names Akane, do you know where we are?¡± Thor heard the feminine voice before the pretty girl leaned down face Thor¡¯s prone form. Thor glanced around the unfamiliar surroundings, were they in a cave of some sort?
¡.
¡°Scuse me?¡±
Chapter 4
¡°S¡¯cuse me?¡±
¡°You''re scaring him!¡±
¡°I¡¯m honesty not sure if he¡¯s capable of such things.¡±
¡°Okay, that was just mean!¡±
Thor watched the comical banter between the group, he managed to successfully catch the names of the group members though, Mr handsome was aptly named Jake, sporty guy was called Sam, and the other girl was called Jess. Surprisingly standard names from the admired group. Thor¡¯s musings were cut off when Jake addressed the group in what sounded like his best leader voice.
¡°So, where are we?¡± Observing the group regain their calm and turn to the boy, Thor pieced together that Jake was probably the leader of the group. Trained eyes scanned over the leader, short messy sandy brown hair, unremarkable brown eyes, average height and slim build, though the confidence he held himself with told Thor he considered himself something of a leader.
Moving his gaze over to Sam, Thor looked him up and down. Short black hair, a full head taller than Jake, with a strong build to match, observant blue eyes scanned their unfamiliar environment with a surprisingly piercing gaze. Thor would consider the boy a suitable soldier.
Akane looked to have Asian roots, with an elegance and grace that befitted her peerless appearance, long raven black hair flowed down her shoulders, sharp brown eyes observed her surroundings, a slightly taller height with a slim build, Thor saw the slight muscle beneath her pearly skin, he guessed she was no stranger to sport.
Jess was a shorter girl with a surprisingly bodacious body, soft turquoise eyes looked over to Jake for comfort, a slim/curvy build, long blonde hair that flowed down to the small of her back. Thor concluded she was probably the ¡®princess¡¯ of the group.
Thor chuckled softly as he thought of how he would contrast with the clique team, an imposing height of 6 and half feet, broad shoulders and a body layered with dense muscle, arms as thick as Jake¡¯s thighs, scars crisscrossing his body head to toe, hidden under the long sleeves of his enormous school uniform, short black hair cropped to a militaristic style, trained dark brown eyes piercing even the darkest corners of the cave he found himself in. Overall a stark contrast to the others.
Leaping to his feet in a sudden movement, surprising the others with the unexpected movement, Thor observed his surroundings. It appeared they were at the end of a tunnel of some sort, the subterranean passage was about 7 metres across and 9 metres high, leading off in one singular direction. A sort of larvae covered the roof of the cave, glowing a with a soft blue hue, lighting the cave with just enough light to see roughly 4 metres in front of himself. Thor opened his mouth to address the group with what he considered the best course of action.
¡°I doubt help will be coming soon guys, for now we should carefully proceed forward, Sam and I will go first, the girls next and Thor would you mind covering our rear?¡±
Thor silently closed his mouth, it seemed Jake had beaten him to the punch, he looked at him with approval.Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site.
¡°Sure.¡± Thor¡¯s gravelly voice reverberated around the cave for a few seconds, seemingly enhancing the alien like atmosphere.
¡°And be careful guys, I can barely see 6 feet in front of me.¡± Jake called back to the group as they began trudging forward.
Meanwhile, Thor was watching the group with confusion. He hadn¡¯t thought of it till now, but they were acting strangely¡ normal? They¡¯d just been transported with a strange method, to an even stranger place, and they weren¡¯t having any adverse mental or emotional episodes? Instead they follow Jake with disturbing trust, ooh-ing and ahh-ing at the pretty larvae. Thor didn¡¯t like seeing this, complete show of trust, it reminded him of things rather forgotten.
¡°Hey Thor, could ya¡¯ pass me the bait. Damn buggers ran off with mine again!¡±
Thor shook his mind of such weak thoughts, he was stronger than this, he was made to be stronger than this. Realising he was lagging behind the group a little, Thor adjusted his pace and quickly caught up with the girls.
Jake seemed to sense that the groups tension was rising, so he started a bit of small talk with the group as they walked.
¡°Remember when Sam snuck apple cider into the dorms?¡± Jake called back to the group.
¡°I don¡¯t remember that¡¡± Sam muttered, looking slightly uncomfortable.
¡°Maybe because you drank all of it.¡±
¡°Did you boys really do that?¡± Jess asked, joining the conversation.
¡°I don¡¯t doubt they did.¡± Akane said, a smirk growing on her face.
¡°You ever had cider Thor?¡± Sam queried Thor, seeing him remain silent throughout the conversation thus far.
Thor thought back to when he was directly injected with pure alcohol as part of an experiment to see the effect of drugs on his ability to function of the battlefield. It wasn¡¯t the best experience, he still got headaches remembering the brutal hangover.
¡°No.¡± Thor decided to focus on their surroundings, seeing as they weren¡¯t.
In an unfamiliar environment, one must be solely focused on the unexpected, that much was common sense.
Soon however, they reached an opening in the tunnel. They carefully stepped out the cave and into direct sunlight, their surroundings once again shocked them, Thor included. Huge trees, that would have towered above even the tallest of skyscrapers, barely letting the light shine through the dense foliage in beautiful shafts, vibrant green grass layered the ground beneath their feet, alluring flowers of all colours littered the ground with their beauty. Directly in front of the group was a divine looking pond of the clearest water Thor had ever seen, filled with large fish that shined with every colour imaginable.
But what outshined all of this, was the beings standing in front of the pool. A Being of pure white, his radiance shocking even Thor.
a beautiful woman dressed in barbaric animal furs with a wicked looking bow strapped across her broad shoulders.
An ancient looking man, dressed in the finest robe Thor had ever lain his eyes on. However, beneath his old, harmless exterior, Thor could feel the man thrum with endless power.
A proud man whom Thor could only describe as a warrior, equipped with plate armour that covered his every inch of skin, an enormous great sword was clutched within the mans plated grasp. Thor ripped his eyes from the being in a rare moment of alarm when he looked into the eye slits of the warrior¡¯s helmet, two glowing orb of fire glared straight back at him.
The beings that Thor could only describe as celestial looked down on them, though not with the superiority of a rich man looking at the poor, but with the senior gaze a stern father would gaze upon his children with.
¡°Fuckin FINALLY! I¡¯ve been sitting here longer than Bronos¡¯ been in the closet.¡±
Thors vison was drawn towards a man even larger than himself, before he could even wonder how he hadn¡¯t noticed him the man¡¯s appearance shocked him into silence. Swirling tattoos¡¯ bent and twisted around the man¡¯s body as if they were alive, a rough beard of jet black covered the man¡¯s heavily scarred face. Arms as thick as Thor¡¯s waist was wide and a build that suggested he bench-presses firetrucks for fun. Modest pants of fur covered the man¡¯s privacy, leaving his scarred chest open to the elements, an eyepatch covered one eye whilst the other tried to glare a hole through Thor¡¯s forehead.
The great man threw the fishing rod he previously held into the water, no longer interested in the action, and got to his feet, the menacing man took heavy steps over to the other beings. In his stupor, Thor thought he heard the white being sigh under his breath before turning to Jake and addressing him in a voice Thor felt himself get mesmerised in.
¡°Welcome, hero prospects.¡±
Chapter 5
¡°Welcome, hero prospects.¡±
Thor felt himself grow mesmerised with those beautiful words, like the peerless music of a fine violin drifting through an empty auditorium-No! Thor mentally shook himself free of the glowing man¡¯s words, he was trained to be better than this!
¡°Quit sweet talking ¡®em Brono. I don¡¯t wanna talk to vegetables again, pretty sure the last group you fucked with is still recovering.¡± The brawny monster of a man snapped to the shining man, using his gravelly voice to draw the gaze of the group from the glowing Man, Brono¡¯s, mesmerising voice.
¡°C¡¯ept fer Master chief over ¡®ere, god to se some kids with a pair o¡¯ man sacks.¡± The giant man growled down at Thor, in what Thor could only assume was a praising tone.
¡°Master Chief?¡± The powerful woman in furs called out from behind Brono.
¡°Ahh forget it¡¡±
¡°Enough with your television games Ares, there is work to be done.¡± The ancient looking man snapped, briskly spinning his cane in lazy circles.
¡°Television games? You know damn fuckin well what they''re called you twat! Come over ¡®ere, I¡¯ll finish you off before old age does!¡± In the response to the provoctation, the old man straightened his back to his full height, pointed his cane at the giant man and drew his arm back like the javelin throwers Thor had seen on the Olympics.
¡°See how old I look when I put this stick 7 inches through your FUCKING EYE SOCKET!¡± The staff starting cracking, sparks of electricity arcing throughout the entire length, Thor felt his hair raise and the smell of burnt wood pierced his nose like a knife. The Idol group weren¡¯t doing as good though. All four of the students were getting pushed backwards through the pristine grass, muscles straining against the powerful invisible force.
Brono¡¯s bright shoulders visibly slumped, he looked towards the stock still armoured man, whom Thor had been considering was a statue. In response to the gaze of Brono, the knight drew his sword from the soft ground with a slick jerk, levelled the great blade at a sharp 90-degree angle, wicked edge pointed straight between the old man and giant man, visibly took a large breath, and shouted with a voice a fighter jet engine would be proud of.
¡°CEASE YOUR ARGUMENTS, FELLOW COMRADES!¡± The powerful voice reverberated around the clearing, the great trees gently shook, Thor nearly jumped out of his skin and the Idol group were blasted from their feet, landing hard on the ground with loud gasps. Seeing this the armoured man had the decency to look slightly apologetic under his thick armour.
The old man and the giant seemed to remember where they were, and with one last piercing gaze, lowered their guards. Brono once again let out a sigh, before turning to Thor and the idol group.
¡°Well, anyway¡ ahh. Oh yeah, you¡¯re all probably wondering why we summoned you here.¡±
Jake took this time to speak up to the divine being, picking himself up from the floor and dusting himself off he turned to the being with a surprisingly strong voice.
¡°Why bring us here? Why put us in the tunnel? And who are you?¡±
The being took a moment to gaze down on Jake, seemingly impressed with the boy¡¯s courage.Stolen novel; please report.
¡°Well, we brought you here to be heroes, we put you in the tunnel to see how you¡¯d react to an unfamiliar and alien environment, a sort of test, if you will. And I am Brono, the god of Light.¡±
Brono seemed to have toned down his voice to the point where it wasn¡¯t hypnotising anymore, Thor was thankful for that, he was still embarrassed it affected him.
¡°He¡¯s Ares, the God of war.¡± Brono continued, pointed towards the giant man, who grunted angrily in response.
¡°She¡¯s Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt.¡± Brono remarked, pointing at the woman in furs, the woman herself awkwardly inspected her bow at the unexpected attention.
¡°He¡¯s Zeus, God of the 4 core elements.¡± Brono pointed at the old man.
¡°The core elements are earth, fi-.¡± The old man began before Brono cut him off, pointing towards the heavily armoured man.
¡°He¡¯s Horus, God of the Sun. Not to be confused with me, god of light.¡± Brono finished, waiting patiently for the information to sink in. Thor¡¯s mind was going into overdrive, calling all his knowledge of gods into action. Ares was the Greek god of war, Zeus was also a Greek god, king of the gods in-fact, though he didn¡¯t seem to be in charge here. Brono was the Norse god of daylight, Horus was the Egyptian of the sun and Artemis was the Greek god of the hunt.
Thor was seeing a lot of different gods here. Something didn¡¯t add up, shouldn¡¯t there be other gods?
¡°What do you mean by heroes?¡± Jake stepped up to the plate once again, asking the question that was on all their minds, except Thor, he was trying to remember if there was a Greek hippo god.
¡°Good question my child, heroes are basically champions of a God. We send you down into a colosseum of sorts, a specially crafted planet. Where you will do battle with other champions of Gods. This is an event that only occurs every few million years, so as you can imagine it¡¯s quite a large event. So large in-fact, the fate of gods are put on the shoulders of their champions. It¡¯s a system designed to rank the Gods, and decide upon a ruler.¡± Brono looked each student in the eye, as if to stress the importance of this.
¡°The others gods have chosen their champions from around the known universe. We, have chosen you all. This is a matter that decides the fate of the universe itself, the fate of all that is and will ever be is at stake. And it will ride on your shoulders.¡± Thor looked at Brono in shock, the entire universe? He looked over to the Idol group, they looked at Brono with an unnaturally determined look in their eyes. Thor wondered how this wasn¡¯t affecting them, even in the slightest!
¡°If we accept, what exactly will we have to do?¡± Jake asked Brono, this time with an even stronger voice.
¡°You will be placed on the planet, and every month the ¡®matches¡¯ will take place. These will occur every month, and one month will be given to prepare. The contents of these matches are unknown, and they will change and alter the rules of each. Though every match is designed to cut down a significant number of Champions.¡±
¡°How many other champions are there?¡±
¡°Millions upon millions, enough to fill up a planet 5 times the size of your earth. And each champion will have their own god.¡±
The group took a moment to let this sink in. Jake called out for Thor to join them for a second, the group huddled around one another.
¡°Are we doing this?¡± Sam asked Jake, a fierce smile twisting his face.
¡°What¡¯s the vote?¡± Jake answered, a similar smile gracing his own face.
¡°Fuck it.¡± Akane answered shortly.
¡°Well, okay.¡± Jess answered, a determined look in her eyes.
¡°Hell fucking yeah.¡± Sam cheered.
¡°Thor?¡± Jake questioned, looking to Thor.
Thor couldn¡¯t believe his ears, how were they so accepting of this! This was uncanny, but Thor thought about what he would do, he didn¡¯t really have a reason to stay on earth. And he ached to fight, just as he was designed for! Though, would Dr Drew be okay with it? Thor mulled over this for a short while, before concluding Drew would probably tell him to do whatever¡¯s more enjoyable. That was Drew, he always said the goal of life should be enjoyment, otherwise what was the point? Excitement arced throughout Thor¡¯s body like lightninging, his hands clenched into fists as a rare blood-thirsty smile broke out on his scarred face, threatening to split his face in half.
¡°Sure.¡± An almost animalistic grunt came from Thor¡¯s twisted lips, sending a shiver down the spines of the others huddled around him. Seeing this, Thor tried to bring himself back to his senses, just as Drew taught him. But slowing his breath, thinking of calming things and relaxing wasn¡¯t working.
He was just too fucking excited for what was coming¡
Unseen by Thor, Ares was looking at Thor¡¯s terrifying smile. A soft grunt left the man as his smile twisted into a mirror image of Thor¡¯s.
¡°I knew I chose right¡¡±
Chapter 6
Brono looked down at the group of ¡®champions¡¯, a soft smile gracing his glowing lips. Of course, he knew with absolute certainty that they would accept. He made sure of that at least.
¡°So, have you all decided?¡± Brono asked gently, eyes glancing down at the group. Jake glanced at each member of the group in turn before responding to Brono¡¯s question, his dark brown eyes landed on Thor¡¯s own quizzical eyes. Seeing what Jake was asking, Thor curtly nodded, his eyes locked on Jake¡¯s own.
¡°We have, we¡¯ll fight for you.¡± Brono clasped his hands together in a grand gesture, drawing the attention of the other gods who¡¯d begun staring absently at their glorious surroundings.
¡°Splendid! First of all, gather around children, I will explain how you¡¯ll be fighting for us.¡± Thor gathered around Brono with the others, taking extra care not to be too close to the god. Glancing around him furtively, Thor noticed the other gods walk over to the group, joining Brono at the head. Ares standing opposite sides with Zeus.
¡°The world you will be transported to shortly will have certain, attributes, that you may not be used to. In particular, is the ¡®Ability system¡¯, that we gods grant you champions with to aid you in the coming battles.¡± Brono began, taking time to stare each student in the eye.
¡°These ¡®Abilities¡¯ are born from one¡¯s soul, and cannot be changed. Once a god releases a champions ability, the god cannot change champions. For example, say if you were to be gifted with the ability to fly Jake, you wouldn¡¯t be able to change that ability as it was born from your very soul, forged through your hopes, dreams, tribulations and scars.¡± Thor focused his entire being on soaking up every vital word of Brono¡¯s.
¡°These abilities will grow and evolve with their champions, growing stronger through each trail and tribulation the champion forges through. For example, if you were to slay a dire wolf, the system will judge how difficult it was and the appropriate experience gained from it. Very similar to your RPG games.¡± At this point Sam raised his hand, to which Brono nodded to.
¡°So, do we get stats like strength, dexterity and intelligence? Like a game?¡± Sam asked tentatively, nervous but also very curious.
¡°No, it would be na?ve and extremely basic to judge an individual¡¯s strength based on a numerical value. For example, what if one was to be stronger in the left arm than their right? How would this be displayed, or would their strength be equal across the board. And what is the difference between strength and agility? If agility makes you move faster, then wouldn¡¯t explosive strength serve the same purpose?¡± Brono began drawling on, clearly very adamant on this subject.
¡°Okay, so we don-¡± Sam began but was cut off by Brono¡¯s tirade.
¡°And what the fuck is with intelligence? How the hell can you measure one¡¯s intelligence! It¡¯s downright impossible to do so!¡± Brono began losing composure, growing angrier with each word. Thor was beginning to grow cautious of the rampaging god. Though, luckily at this point, Horus gently placed a hand on Brono bright shoulder, calming the god back down.Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on Royal Road.
¡°Um. Sorry about that¡.¡± Brono began, noticeably blushing under his shining skin.
¡°Anyway, I guess we¡¯ll start drawing out your abilities. One by one, us gods will call out our chosen champions names, when your name is called, join your god and they will draw out your abilities.¡± Brono finished awkwardly, stepping away with the other gods.
¡°Jake.¡± Brono called out to the surprised youth, who quickly walked over to the god.
¡°Sam.¡± Horus loudly called out, gesturing grandly to the stout youth.
¡°Akane.¡± Artemis curtly called to the beautiful young maiden.
¡°Jess.¡± Zeus drawled out, pointing to the quiet girl.
Thor watched each student walk over to their chosen god with growing concern, if that was all of them, that meant the only god left was-
¡°Thor.¡± Growled out Ares, a barely contained savage smile stretched across his face, his eyes shining with blinding excitement. A small voice in the back of Thor¡¯s thick skull tried to tell him that the man was insane, but Thor didn¡¯t even hear the quiet voice, instead the strange synergy between him and the god was all that raced across his mind, his feet numbingly dragging him over to the mad god.
¡°We will now draw out your abilities.¡± Each god placed their hand above their chosen champions head¡¯s, a strange light swelling underneath their open palms.
Thor felt a powerful force within him, straining against its invisible bonds. The struggle grew stronger and stronger, a pounding headache began to form in the back of Thor¡¯s head. The constant pounding in perfect rhythm to the struggles of the force within him. Sweat glistened on the back of his neck as he fell to one knee in a rare moment of weakness, his eyes squeezed shut, teeth grinded against one another as he pushed against the pain. He¡¯d felt worse.
Then, the pain was gone, with the struggles. Thor¡¯s eyes shot open as a small translucent blue screen took up his vision.
Mjolnir¡¯s Gauntlets:
Info: Gauntlets forged of dense steel, these metal bracings require great strength to use effectively. The past of these gauntlets are shrouded in mystery.
Effect: None
As Thor rapidly read through the short blue screen, he felt his hands grow considerably heavy, his eyes dropped down to look at his quizzically weighted hands. Only to see thick gauntlets, made of a dirty, dark metal covered his hands, up to his elbows.
Thor scanned over the armour, the metal was thick, unusually thick for gauntlets. Metal covered every inch of skin with thick, interlocking scales and plates. Through his hands, Thor could feel a soft, comfortable material from underneath the gloves. Curiously moving his fingers, Thor felt that the gauntlets fitted him down to the last millimetre, observing the palms of the gloves, Thor saw that they were very well suited to grabbing and holding onto surfaces, with sharp grooves sticking out of the fingers in small spikes, though handling a tool would be difficult to say the least.
Last of all, the gauntlets were heavy. Each gauntlet weighed at least 10kg, Thor had no trouble moving the things himself, thanks to his enhanced strength, though they could set him dangerously off balance.
¡°Armour huh, ever felt¡ Vulnerable, at all in your past?¡± Ares stated off to the side suggestively. Thor answered the question with a piercing glare, to which Ares merely raised an eyebrow in response to.
¡°Well, in any case, I hope you¡¯re proficient at hand to hand¡¡± Ares muttered, scratching his ear with a burly hand.
Thor glanced down at his armoured hands, feeling conflicted about the ability that supposedly reflected his soul. Clenching his hand with the loud scraping of metal, Thor asked himself.
¡°I was crafted to be a weapon, an unstoppable killing machine with the bloodlust of a thousand men. A sharpened blade, designed to tear the throats of my enemies wide open! Why the fuck do I think I need armour?¡±
Chapter 7
¡°In any case, it¡¯s a worthy ability, kid. Much like reality, abilities are not equal. So believe me, it could be a lot worse. Once saw a chump who could blow bubbles, that¡¯s not even a joke!¡± Ares grunted down to Thor, roaring out the last part with a surprising chuckle.
Thor tore his gaze from the dark gauntlets, dark eyes boring a hole into Ares forehead.
¡°How do I take them off?¡± A deep voice reverberated around the clearing, drawing the gazes of the others, who were previously preoccupied with their own abilities.
¡°To be honest, I dunno kid. Some abilities can be taken on and off, and some can¡¯t.¡± Ares shrugged, obviously not too caring about Thor¡¯s predicament.
Thor wiggled his fingers and tried to wrench the gauntlets off, but not even his considerable strength could remove the stubborn armour from his arms. A grunt of anger slipped from Thor¡¯s clenched teeth as the edges of his vision began to faintly tint red.
¡°Holy shit!¡± Jakes loud outburst of excitement drew Thor¡¯s increasingly violent thoughts to the others. His brow slightly raised when he saw Jake raise his arm to the sky, clenched fist glowing brightly with a dangerous white light.
¡°I HAVE THE POWER!¡± He loudly exclaimed, parodying a certain half naked barbarian. Thor looked to the others, Akane held a breathtaking bow, weaved together with the branches of a tree. Sam held a simple, yet divine looking straight sword, thrumming gently with an unknown power. Thor¡¯s gaze visibly widened when he caught sight of the meek jess stretch her arms wide, whilst enormous wings of raging, pure fire spanned out from her back, drawing the attention of all present.
¡°Well, god damn¡¡± Ares muttered whilst staring at Jess, struck silent for a rare, if only for a brief moment.
¡®Abilities aren¡¯t equal after all.¡¯ Thor thought quietly to himself as he gazed in wonder at Jess¡¯s glorious appendages. Though this thought was quickly quelled by Brono¡¯s captivating voice drawing the attention of everyone.
¡°Everyone listen up, we¡¯re about to run out of time, so listen closely. You may look at your ability screen by thinking ¡®Ability screen¡¯ with the clear intent for it to open, to close it think ¡®Close¡¯. Unfortunately, we¡¯ve run out of time, so all I can say is, good luck to you all.¡¯ He began stepping away, before stopping and speaking once more, with a clearly rushed voice.
¡°You will all be transported to a small town, they will help to prepare you for the challenges ahead. Except for you, Thor. You will be thrown into an area we believe you will benefit from the most. And remember, kill to live!¡± The last of Brono¡¯s speech was drowned out by a blindingly white light enveloping Thor¡¯s vision, as he felt a jerking sensation.
When Thor regained his vision, he was surprised by a harsh wind blowing across his face. Raising an arm to shield his face, Thor looked around himself. He appeared to be in a large field, lush green grass stretched out for around half a mile in all directions before reaching a wall of tall trees. Thor concluded he was in a clearing in the middle of what was probably a forest, though before Thor could think of what to do from this point, he spotted something large and black bounding towards him.
Focusing on the creature, he saw it was a large dog, reaching Thor¡¯s own hips. As the dog grew closer, Thor could make out the details of the animal. A long snout, snarling with barely contained rage, jagged fangs jutted out the dogs in a serrated fashion, Long powerful legs pushed the dog with alarming speed towards Thor. Paws ending with vicious claws, reaching to tear Thor¡¯s throat wide open. It¡¯s glistening fur, a dark matte black. Thor thought the dog largely resembled a wolf. He decided to call the beast, a black wolf.
The black wolf was only 10m away now, and was closing in fast. Thor knew even he would have trouble out running the beast, so he lowered his body, raised his arms in front of his in a defensive boxer¡¯s stance. He decided to lower his stance a little more and bring a more stable centre of gravity to compensate for the weight of the gauntlets that still covered his hands.
Piercing eyes narrowed, observing the black wolf''s every move, even as it grew closer and closer. His gaze centred on the wolf''s hind legs, watching for a sign of the beast leaping. Thor saw the muscle on the hind legs swell, bunching together as the wolf prepared to throw itself at Thor. In a flash the wolf bounded forward, powerful jaws stretching straight for Thor¡¯s throat, dangerous claws trying to rip Thor¡¯s arms to ribbons.
But Thor was ready, in one smooth motion, Thor threw his upper body back, dodging the wolfs snapping jaws by a hairs breadth. Then, within the time space of less than a second, Thor tore the beats jaw to bloody shards, as his heavy metal fist collided with the wolfs lower jaw with brutal force. Whilst one arm had slipped in-between the wolfs outstretched paws, the other fended off the claws using the dense metal of the gauntlets.
With a loud grunt between clenched teeth, Thor drew upon his strength to push the airborne animal off him, throwing its trajectory off as it soared over Thor¡¯s lowered body, landing with a meaty thud as it hit the dirt, rolling for a few turns before coming to a dead halt, not moving an inch.
Drawing himself back to his full, intimidating height, Thor walked over to the wolfs prone form. Its head was twisted at an odd angle, it¡¯s maw a bloody mess. Its neck had been snapped in half, Thor looked down to his bloody gauntlets. The wolfs claws had torn the long sleeves of his school uniform to ribbons, but the gauntlets were untouched.
A soft grunt left Thor¡¯s mouth as he gazed down at the corpse, but was quickly interrupted by the sound of heavy foot falling. Looking around him, Thor counted 4 more of the wolfs. Thoughts of how the gods thought putting him here would ¡®Benefit¡¯ him filled his mind as he settled into a low stance. Thor banished these thoughts from his mind as the wolves closed in as one. Such thoughts during a fight were dangerously distracting.
The wolves seemed to have a prepared strategy, Thor watched as two of the menacing beasts circled around Thor, attempting to flank him, whilst the other two charged ahead. Thor stepped back, trying to keep all of the beasts in sight, but the wolves were waiting for this moment of indecisiveness. The two front wolves attacked, one attacking from above from the left, similar to the previous wolf. Whilst the other wolf attack from below coming from his right side, aiming for Thor¡¯s exposed kneecap.
Seeing this, Thor gritted his teeth glanced down at his gauntlets, decided to put his trust on the armour that supposedly was made by and for him. Snatching an arm out, Thor clasped his hand around the leaping wolfs upper jaw, leaving his thumb inside the beats rapidly closing mouth. Whilst his other arm punched straight down unto the lower wolfs skull, pounding the beast into the grass. Turning his body whilst simultaneously stepping back, using the leaping Wolfs¡¯ momentum, Thor threw the airborne beast into his friend in the dirt. As both wolves collided with one another Thor felt a blinding pain of red-hot agony erupted from his right knee.
Pushing the pain to the back of his mind, Thor dropped to one knee whilst throwing a metal clad fist at the wolf latched onto his knee. Thor felt the beast¡¯s skull cave in as both the weight of both his body and gauntlet crushed down on top of the beast¡¯s skull. Not wasting a moment, Thor snapped his head to the left, seeing the last wolf throw itself at Thor¡¯s now exposed face. Hurling himself to the left, Thor grabbed the thrashing animals head it passed him, rolling over the beast, Thor swiftly broke its neck before to had the chance to struggle.Support the creativity of authors by visiting the original site for this novel and more.
Suddenly, a loud growl pierced Thor¡¯s hypersensitive ears, throwing himself to the side, he barely dodged the deadly jaws of the last remaining wolf. It was the one he threw on the other wolf. It seemed that ¡®other¡¯ wolf had been killed by the heavy impact of its friend.
Thor narrowed his eyes, staring his final opponent down. The wolf seemed to do the same, adopting a cautious stance. Thor decided to break the stalemate first, grabbing a dead wolf by the nape of its neck, he threw the beast at the remaining wolf, who nimbly jumped away from the corpse projectile. But that moment of distraction was all Thor needed. Leaping forward, almost overtaking the deceased wolf he threw, Thor tackled the last Wolf into the dirt. Pushing it¡¯s thrashing jaw away with an armoured hand, whilst pushing the body over so that the beast¡¯s legs were kept well away from him.
Quickly wrapping an arm around the beasts¡¯ throat, Thor jerked the head directly towards himself, earning a satisfying snap from the wolfs neck as it went silent, with only a desperate yelp as its last words.
Breathing heavily, Thor grasped the dead wolf, his grip around the corpses throat rapidly tightened. The crushing of muscles squirmed under his iron grip, the potent sent of spilt blood filled Thor¡¯s nose, the taste of dirty iron filled his palate as he agitatedly looked around him, searching for something he could kill. Something with blood pumping through its veins, something alive. Thor listened for them, begging for the order, to let him loose.
¡°You are not their weapon! You do not need them Thor, be stronger than this!¡± The little voice in the back of Thor¡¯s head grew stronger, louder, more commanding. The crimson leaked from his bloodshot vision, clearing his thoughts once again. Thor felt pathetic for letting their teachings influence him again, he wondered just when he would be free of them, if ever. But for now, there was more pressing matters.
Thor froze for a second, listening for any sign of movement, when he found none he pushed himself off the dead wolf. The sound of heavy breathing filled the area as the adrenaline from the fight wore off. Looking down at his now throbbing knee, Thor analysed the damage. There was considerable bruising and numerous puncture wounds from the dog¡¯s teeth. Thor roughly estimated the wounds were 3 to 5cm deep, no broken bones, no pulled muscle, nothing really threatening to him. Just meant he¡¯d be limping for a while.
Forcing himself to his feet with a barely audible grunt, Thor observed his surroundings and tried to judge the best course of action. He was in an unfamiliar, and quite obviously hostile environment, with no supplies other than the clothes on his back. As he pondered this however, a memory of a happier time swept through his mind, like an endless tsunami of emotions Thor wasn¡¯t comfortable feeling.
Amongst a vibrant green jungle of tall trees, standing over two figures like all-powerful-monoliths. ¡°Okay, what do you suppose we do now Thor?¡± Drew asked Thor, his ever-present smile sitting pleased on his face. Thor fiddled with the dirt whilst he wracked his brain. Thor glanced around him, nimbly perched on a dead log. The endless jungle surrounded them, seemingly for miles on end, stretching out into what Thor considered infinity.
¡°Look for water?¡± Thor answered, unsure, but confident that was what drew told him before embarking on this expedition into the amazon jungle.
¡°Very good.¡± Drew replied, positively delighted with Thor¡¯s correct answer. Bending down and ruffling the young boy¡¯s unruly hair.
¡°The human body cannot last without water for long, depending on the environment, or course.-Here, I¡¯d say we¡¯d last about 3 days. Now where do you think we¡¯d find water?¡± Thor looked up at Drew in admiration, Drew always knew everything! Thinking about Drew¡¯s new question, Thor looked around himself again.
¡°Everywhere?¡± Thor guessed, it was a shot in the dark, though there was some truth in it.
¡°Actually, not bad Thor. Since were in a rain forest, everything is quite damp. Now you collect some water from the things around us, I¡¯ll get a fire going so we can boil the water. To kill any bacteria.¡±
Thor gazed down at the grass, not moving for several seconds. Before he broke the stare and grabbed two of the dead wolves. Food was important, and it would be best to hoard it whenever he found it. Heaving the great beasts onto his shoulder was awkward, but more than manageable for the enhanced super-soldier.
Glancing around him, Thor spotted a small mountain, located in front of an even larger mountain range, maybe about an hour¡¯s run away. Thinking that the best place to find water would be alongside the mountain, Thor began a steady run to the mountain.
Whilst running, Thor thought about his current situation. He knew from the gods that he was on a new planet, though so far it seemed very similar to his own. Apart from the abnormally large bloodthirsty beasts. His best course of action was to set up a base camp, secure a water source and find a food source. Next on his agenda, was strengthening his ¡®ability¡¯. The gods had dropped several hints that killing the monsters of this world would do this. Thinking this, Thor called out his ability screen.
Mjolnir¡¯s Armour:
Stage: 1 (25%)
Info: Gauntlets forged of dense steel, these metal bracings require great strength to use effectively. The past of these gauntlets are shrouded in mystery.
Effect: None
Thor¡¯s musings were instantly brought to the screen.
¡°Stage 1, that¡¯s knew.¡± Thor couldn¡¯t help but mutter under breath, he guessed that the stage refers to the strength, or level of the ability. And that the 25% refers to how far through he was to stage 2, judging from the percentage, Thor estimated that each wolf he killed earlier was worth 5%. He wondered what would happen when the ability reached stage 2. Well for now, he should make finding water situation number one.
After a short hour of running, Thor reached the base of the mountain. The run had been uneventful, though he did spot some larger, dangerous looking beasts, Thor took his time to run around them, taking care not to spook the volatile animals into attacking.
Reaching the base of the mountain, Thor glanced around, after a brief moment he located a long furrow leading up the mountain, as he trudged closer Thor could start to make out the sound of running water. Walked around a large rocky out cropping, Thor located the water. A small stream flowed down the mountain, pooling into a small pond before flowing out further into the surrounding forestry.
Animals would probably come to drink from the pond directly, so Thor decided to set up camp a little further away, among a rocky outcropping, thus protecting Thor¡¯s camp from one side. After dumping the two dead wolves, Thor began setting up a campfire.
Before long, Thor had a nice fire going. The flames gently licking the setting sky, contrasting with the slowly falling sun. Seeing this, Thor quickly took one of the wolf corpse and began skinning it by the lake, occasionally washing the corpse off. Soon enough, Thor was sitting on a large, raw wolf pelt. Patiently waiting for the considerable servings of bloody wolf meat to cook over the gently burning fire. Thor guessed he had been on this world for around 4 hours now, judging by the setting sun, he had arrived late afternoon. That was assuming this planets days were as long his Earths.
He hadn¡¯t had time to set up a tent, but that could always be done tomorrow, it would just mean a relatively sleepless night. However, a more glaring issue was the stage of Thor¡¯s ability. He would make growing his ability the priority for tomorrow, this world was incredibly hostile and strength would be incredibly important for the coming days ahead.
Thor¡¯s musings were interrupted when a foul burning smell pierced his senses like a knife as he blinked several to clear his eyes of a sudden irritation. Begrudgingly Thor pulled himself up and moved his wolf pelt slightly to the left with an annoyed grunt, looked like the wind changed. Sitting down again, this time out of the fire¡¯s smoke, Thor began musing again.
Looking down at his gauntlets, Thor watched the murky reflection of the fire dance across his fingers, to a beat no mortal could understand. The gauntlets were still quite comfortable, though Thor had no success in removing the persistent armour from his arms. His thoughts naturally drifted towards what he would do in this situation, probably something glaringly obvious. Thor let out a rare snort of laughter, a soft smile gradually emerged on his stoic face.
*Snap*
Thor instantly whipped his head to the sound, eye¡¯s searching the growing darkness for the source of the sound. Though this proved unneeded when the perpetrator stepped out of the darkness himself. Taking large steps, taking car to avoid the dead wolf carcass strewn on the floor.
¡°Calm down big guy, I aint looking for a fight, just some grub.¡± The strange man spoke, his voice was mature, yet had a slightly childish tone, almost jokingly.
No, it wasn¡¯t a man. It was a lizard, or a man shaped lizard, or a man with scales? Thor couldn¡¯t comprehend what he was seeing, though took a second to observe the man in further detail. Two short horns protruded from the ¡®mans¡¯ bald, scaled head. Two mahogany brown, reptilian eyes stared Thor down, clearly dicing down his every detail too. He was at least 6 feet tall, with dark scales covering every inch of skin Thor could see, patterned with deep green, dark purple and dark blue, melding him with the shadows around him. His musculature was well defined, even though the scales, He stood roughly 5 metres from Thor, his posture clearly non-threatening, almost lazy.
Thor looked back up, into the lizard man¡¯s eyes, they shone with playful intelligence, but behind them Thor could make out a fierce distrust and wary attitude towards him. Thor carefully brought his leg close to him, preparing to move quickly if the situation went volatile.
¡°So, you gonna share some of that meat?¡±
