《Log of a Slime Evolutionist》 Ch. 1 (On the road) 2/9/1302 Day 1 I''m heading off from the academy today. Currently I''ve grouped up with two adventures set up by the Dean. One named John and another Mel. The two of them were a bit skeptical about my destination due to my meek appearance, however I think they''ve warmed up to me over the ride so far. We all had a fun time telling stories about our adventures. I¡¯m decently sure that most of them were exaggerated, but still I had a lot of fun. Around half day we ran into some goblins. They were low level so I didn¡¯t need to intervene. I was surprised John and Mel turned out to be B ranked adventures. They could easily take on a few Ogres, so the raid didn¡¯t last long. We set up camp just before nightfall. The two adventures went on explaining the basics of camping. After I set up a Monster Protection Formation they were surprised. Soon after they explained they had no idea I was a mage. It looks like the academy had a mix up. John and Mel told me they were in charge of protecting some noble son who had no talent for magic. After clearing up the confusing situation we decided to finish the escort. I¡¯ll have to write a note to the Dean when they head back. For now I¡¯m going to sleep. 2/10/1302 Day 2 Today we decided to hunt for some food. Mel is an archer so we should have an easy meal. We just packed our canteen and a few other materials and are about to head out. Looks like John is going to stay behind to protect the horses.Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on the original website. Well that was a complete failure. After Mel attempted to take out a bear it used Spirit Transformation and became a King of the Forest. I had to use one of my higher tier fire magics to take it out. Turns out magic fire ruins the meat. We settled on a few horned rabbits and made our way back on the road. Our carriage must look like it''s filled with loot. This time it was bandits. They looked D ranked. The problem was that there was over twenty of them making them a C+ ranked group. After setting up a Defense Formation I decided I would just protect the horses while Boosting John. After Boosting him to B+ ranked strength and agility it was easy for him to take out the front liners while Mel took out the archers. The few arrows that got through were aimed at John. I managed to block them with Wind Barrier before they hit him. After about half their number was gone they retreated. John and Mel looted the bodies and soon after brought back all the items of value. Turns out there were three healing potions, and a few medium grade alchemy ingredients. Back on the road I guess. Nothing eventful after that bandit attack. I just finished the letter to the Dean explaining the situation with the mix up. After I give them the letter we¡¯re going to set up camp and go to bed. 2/11/1302 Day 3 John told me that we should arrive at my destination by today. It¡¯s sad that I won¡¯t get to talk to them anymore, however i''m glad that I can start my research. Other than that, Mel and John decided it''s better If I get the loot from the bandits yesterday. They said someone from the academy could probably use the alchemy ingredients better than they could. The potions we split evenly. I¡¯ve arrived. No raids this time surprisingly. Right now John is unpacking some of my equipment while Mel is scouting for my test subjects. I¡¯ll update after we¡¯re all unpacked. It''s about half day now and we finally got everything unpacked. I decided to give those two a present before they headed off. It was a new potion I made after attempting a high level health potion. The vitality boost should help them take a few more hits it they¡¯re in a pinch. For now I need to finish my rune placement so I can fortify my camp. Hopefully I can work on my log cabin soon. Okay I''ve got everything set up. The only thing left to do now is eat and set up a camp fire. Tomorrow starts the first day of the experiments. Ch. 2 (All set up) 2/12/1302 Day 4 I¡¯ve prepared the mana cages. I¡¯m just about ready to set out. This should be a good catch. According to Mel there were around four confirmed species in the mouth of the cave. Wow. I think I''ve found the slime gold mine. There were so many Slimes. I couldn¡¯t find any more than four different types, however the cave was coated with slime bodies. There must be a queen slime inside that dungeon. For now here¡¯s a list of my captures. Blue Slime x7 Red Slime x3 Moss Slime x3 Earth Slime x1 In case someone who has no idea about Slimes picks up this log, I might as well give a basic explanation about each type. Currently there is little knowledge on Slimes or their habits but i¡¯ll give you a list of all known species of slime. Basic Types: Slimes with no elemental attributes Blue Slime - The most common type of slime. Known for their high Physical Damage Resistance, and their low Magic Damage Resistance. Can reproduce with any type of slime. Production by blue slime, Royal Slime, Queen Slime, Large Blue Slime, and Goliath Blue Slime. Red Slime - The second most common type of slime. Known for their high Magic Damage Resistance, and their low Physical Damage Resistance. Can reproduce with any type of slime. Production by Red Slime, Royal Slime, Queen Slime, Large Red Slime, and Goliath Red Slime. Gray Slime - Very rare type of slime. Known for their both high Physical and Magic Damage Resistance. Can reproduce with Gray Slime, and Royal Slime. Production unknown. Typically F to D rank. Elemental Types: Slimes made from a single element of their environment Too many to list. Each elemental slime holds the attribute of the element they absorbed. Fire Slimes Burn. Ice Slimes are cold. Ect¡Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more. Typically D to C rank. Combination Types: Slimes made from multiple attributes or elements Again too many to list however they typically consist of combinations of basic types and elemental types like Red Fire Slime or Water Earth Slime. Both of which have their individual advantages against different enemies. Typically C to B rank. Item Type - Combination types that are considered a failure. Typically share multiple attributes of an item with a weak ability. C rank at highest. Certain Item types are valued as crafting material. Examples include IronSlime, Hammer Slime. Typically die soon after birth. Production method, Food source/Mixing of Combination types or Elemental types. Variant Types: Slime with either Attributes or Elemental Attributes that show similar traits Boost Slime - Slimes with a short lifespan but a huge core output. The core acceleration typically adds one level to the Slimes rank. (C -> C+) (B+ -> A) ect... Large Slimes - Slime made from the combination of one hundred similar types of Slimes. Large Blue Slimes are the most common of these, however it has also been found to happen with elementals or rarely combination types. Can increase a Rank by three levels. (C -> B)(B -> A) ect... Goliath Slimes - Slimes made from the combination of ten thousand similar types of Slimes or one hundred Large Slimes. Any basic Goliath found can be called an A ranked or higher. Elemental are S ranked and higher. And there has only been one case of a combination Goliath that was Ranked as a SSS to X Rank. Little else is known about Goliaths. Spiked Slimes - Slimes whose membrane protrude spikes. Cores are best used for weapon types. Unable to list others due to lack of data. Unknown if applicable with Royal Types. Royal Types: Slimes that produce other Slimes or protect those who do Royal Slime Guards - Powerful Slimes that cannot reproduce. Made from the production of either Queen or King Slime. Ranks around C to B rank. Moderate resistance from both physical and magical damage. King Slime - Powerful Slimes that can produce a small amount of Royal Slime Guards. Battle power is around B to A rank on its own, S rank when production of Royal Slime Guards is complete. Typically found near a queen Slime. Moderate resistance from both physical and magical damage. Queen Slime - Week Slime that can produce large amounts of Basic or Elemental Slimes. Power is Ranked D to C. High damage resistance to both Magic and Physical Damage. Unknown if able to have combination attributes. _ Okay, for starters i''m going to attempt to create a Gray Slime. I think almost anyone who has any idea about slime reproduction could theories that you would need both a red and blue slime to make one. The main problem people had was the difficulty of having two different slime species to mix their core. To mix cores typically slimes would need to be of the same species, however I found that if one slime is in desperate need of food it would feast on its own kind. By doing this it would cause a forced mix of two different cores with the downside being that one of the Slimes would bedestroyed. The only problem with this method is that once the slime consumed its own kind the core is extruded from its membrane. This is why I¡¯ve gone through the effort of traveling deep into Chocry Kingdom. A fungus known as Condensidosi is prominent in this area. It''s only found within this forest and areas with very low concentrations of mana. For some reason the amount of mana in this place remains constant allowing for magical creatures like Slime Queen to spawn into existence. The function of this fungus is similar to an Iron Skin potion if not a lot more potent. The level of toxins found within make it inedible to humans, monsters like Slimes on the other hand have a high level of poison resistance. I think you can understand where i''m going with this. I¡¯ll continue the log after the first experiment. Ch. 3 (The experiments begin) Looks like the core meld is complete. Now all I have to do is wait a bit for the gestation to be finished. Luckily the red was the one to survive. I think I should even out the numbers a bit more to allow for consecutive experiments. Looks like it''s happening. The core is shrinking while extruding a gray blob within the red slime. Any time now it should be extruded from its membra.. Both Slimes are now dead. Looks like the internal pressure caused both the old and new cores to get crushed. What a waste of life. I completely forgot what I even brought all these alchemy ingredients for. I guess my excitement made me overlook my logical process. Oh well. Okay Lets try this again with proper preparations. By the way I should mention the only reason why I was allowed to make this trip was because the cheapness of the materials. Let me tell you at most I have only thirty sets of standard high grade alchemy ingredients. The Dean told me any other expenses could only be received with gold earned from my own talents. Anyway I had to use about half a set to make one dose of Water Skin. then the other half was used to allow absorption through the membrane. I was expecting to need to use two sets for the potion so it was a good surprise. Still, I need to go to that nearby town sooner or later. Okay , looks like everything''s going well. Unfortunately the red died this time. I need to get more by tomorrow. Now I¡¯ll poor on the Water Skin potion at the beginning of the process. Looks like I messed up again. I guess the extra hardness caused by the Condensidosi slowed the absorption process of the Water Skin. I¡¯ll have to use one more set of alchemy ingredients. Okay the process has started. The blue survived again meaning i¡¯m out of Red Slimes. This time i¡¯ll have to apply it shortly before the core starts to form the new body. I¡¯ll update the log when it''s finished. Looks like it''s my first success. I decided instead of risking applying the Water Skin to early, I would just use a half of another alchemy set to speed up the absorption process. All in all it worked and I''ve produced my first Gray Slime. Here¡¯s the Log. Types - Blue Slime + Red Slime -- Survivor - None Offspring - None -- Survivor - None Offspring - None -- Survivor - Blue Slime Offspring - Gray Slime This guy''s core can sell for a good amount of gold due to its resistance properties. If you didn¡¯t know most low to mid tier armor or weapons are imbued with the essence of a Slime core. Things like attributes and elemental damage/resistance is given by the cores farmed by adventurers. There was also a big rumor that the SSS ranked Goliath Combination Slime Core was used in the creation of a God tier weapon. After that rumor began many people started to research Slimes like I am, however overtime many gave up. even the slime research center in the academy gave up after having no results over the course of about three years or so. I was too young to join before it shut down, however my brother kept telling me about all these cool ways the Slimes evolved. The only problem they had was the ability to recreate the effects. Anyway this was a great achievement. I think it''s time for me to pack up for the night. I¡¯ll have to feed the Slimes, then I guess i¡¯ll go to bed.The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement. 2/13/1302 Day 5 Lucky me. Today I found a rare slime type on the outside of the cave. I managed to find a Spiked Rock Slime. Though it''s not likely to find any Item types other than Rock and Moss Slimes near the mouth of the cave, finding a Spiked variant is a good deal. This guy''s core should fetch me enough to buy another high grade alchemy set. I won¡¯t be selling him, but the option¡¯s there. Anyway here¡¯s the list of what Slimes I have. Blue Slime x13 Red Slime x9 Moss Slime x5 Rock Slime x4 + Spiked Rock Slime x1 Gray Slime x1 All in all a decent pull. For starters i''m going to make a few more gray Slimes so I can sell their cores later. Here¡¯s the Log. Types - Blue Slime + Red Slime -- Survivor - Red Slime Offspring - Gray Slime -- Survivor - Red Slime Offspring - Gray Slime -- Survivor - Blue Slime Offspring - Gray Slime -- I''m down to a total of twenty three alchemy sets. Still plenty for now. All of the experiments have succeeded so far. In total I have four gray Slimes. That should be enough for them to start mating on their own so I guess i¡¯ll start on attempting a combination type using the same method. I¡¯ll start up using the Moss Slime and Stone Slime. So the Moss Slime was the survivor. The process is taking much longer than expected. It looks like the attributes of the slime dictates the time taken in order for the Gestation process to complete. I should probably start tracking the time taken for each slime. Hey that rimed. I think it was a success. Somehow I¡¯ve managed to make an Item Type Slime different from my original expectation. The original idea was to make a Mossy Stone Slime. There¡¯s not much use for these, however it was more of a proof of concept. Anyway it turned out to be some kind of strange green rock slime. I¡¯ve never seen any document with these similar characteristics. After a few test i¡¯ll record the results. While I wasn''t expecting much it''s still a bit disappointing to not find anything useful. Here¡¯s the results. Rock Moss Slime - Item Type: Slime That''s body is composed of soft green rocks that grow at the pace of Moss. Holds a small amount of Regeneration Essence. Reproduction method unknown. Core use unknown. It''s a basic explanation, i''m not going to finish the last two categories until I can reproduce the Rock Moss Slime in larger numbers. I¡¯m going to work on a few more experiments with the Mossy and Rock type Slimes. The Rock Slime survived. So this time the result was a Mossy Stone slime. Maybe the offspring has to do with the parent type. I¡¯ll just log the results for the next few tests. Types - Mossy Slime + Rock Slime -- Survivor - Rock Slime Offspring - Mossy Rock Slime -- Survivor - Rock Slime Offspring - Mossy Rock Slime -- Survivor - Rock Slime Offspring - Mossy Rock Slime -- Survivor - Rock Slime Offspring - Mossy Rock Slime -- Survivor - None Offspring - None -- The last experiment was an odd one. After the past while of testing and only seeing results of the rock winning the encounter, I was ecstatic when the moss overpowered The Rock Slime. The problem was when the core started to Change color some green rocks started to form outside the core before it suddenly exploded sending sharp green stones outside of its body. My tent suffered some small injury from the rocks, however other then that there was no damage to the equipment. I think I should start placing barriers around the test subjects next time. After further examination of the stones gathered from the failed core, they are many times more dense than the stones found on the Rock Moss Slime. Nothing of use, but still an interesting fact. I think I should go back to the Slime cave in order to gather more Rock Slimes for my experiments. Maybe I should just find a good amount of each and let them breed on their own. I should have just enough time to do one more cave run. Here¡¯s my total results. Blue Slime x20 Red Slime x14 Moss Slime x9 Rock Slime x7 + Spiked Rock Slime x1 Rock Moss Slime x1 Mossy Rock Slime x4 Gray Slime x4 It was a big hull this time. I¡¯ll be continuing this log after I get some rest. Ch. 4 (Last of the alchemy set) 2/14/1302 Day 6 Over night I left the Slimes to breed on their own. In total we¡¯ve got three more Blue Slimes, four more Red Slimes, one more Mossy Slime, one more Rock Slime, and one more Gray Slime. I¡¯m going to release the Mossy Rock Slimes back into the cave once I have a chance. Their cores are useless for anything I plan on making. I¡¯m Going to town today, I think i¡¯ll use the rest of my Alchemy sets to make Gray Slimes to sell. I¡¯ll log the results. Types - Blue Slime + Red Slime -- Logs x10 Red survivors x 3 Blue survivors x 5 -- Failures x2 -- Offspring - Gray Slime x8 -- I¡¯ll update my log once I get to town. Looks like my last entry was a lie. I¡¯m lost¡ It¡¯s kinda sad honestly. I have a map and everything. If it comes down to it I i¡¯ll summon my guide. That will be my last resort. I hate that smarmy spirit. ¡°Oh you¡¯re lost AGAIN?¡± One day i¡¯ll get back at him. The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. I¡¯ve arrived at town. Looks as if they are in the middle of some kind of festival. I hope it doesn¡¯t interfere with my core selling. I had a big surprise at the enchanters shop. John and Mel we¡¯re looking for some high grade armor at the shop when I showed up. I guess they were planning on heading back to the Academy tomorrow after they geared up. They asked me if I wanted to do some dungeon runs with them for some extra gold. I would have accepted if they were running the Slime dungeon, unfortunately i''m not a big fan of the undead. They did say after they report to the Deen they¡¯ll be back for some monster runs. Let''s hope everything goes okay with the letter I gave them. Other then that I sold off eight Gray Slime Cores. I got about sixty four Gold for all of them. I left the rest to mingle. I think i''m going to get an inn for the night. With all the runes I¡¯ve placed around my camp I doubt anyone can get close to my setup. I wasted a lot of time getting lost in the forest so it''s getting late. I¡¯ll update if I find anything. I guess all the inns are full for the festival. I think I might have to register in the adventurer''s guild for a room. If you didn¡¯t know the adventurer''s guild offers rooms to anyone over C rank. With my magical capability I should be able to rank around A or so. That could land me a good room if I play my cards right. Lets just hope I get paired up with a tester that¡¯s not bias against magicians. I¡¯m currently in the waiting room right now with three other muscular types. There are two testers. One¡¯s a Dual Swords Wielder and the other is a Fire Mage. It looks like this place uses the dual testing method. I''m in luck. A mage should mean I can¡¯t be held back that much. Mages aren''t that popular in the adventure profession. They¡¯re typically seen as tools of war rather than a soldier. I hear it''s a big problem in the adventurer''s guild due to many warriors only seeing mages as spoiled nobles, and it doesn¡¯t help that about ninety percent of the mage population are actually nobles. Looks like my time is up. I¡¯ll update the log after the results. Looks like I got a B+ rank. The mage said they would rank higher if they could, but they we¡¯re only A ranks. I''m not really looking for a higher rank so i''m satisfied with the free room and the five free midgrade health potions. It¡¯s still about half day so i¡¯m going to finish my shopping. I¡¯ve decided to sell some of my potions I¡¯ve made back in the academy. In total i''m up to about 90 gold. Just for perspective that''s enough to buy about a year''s worth of food for a family of three, or just around forty five highgrade alchemy sets. I shouldn¡¯t need to come back for a while if i''m a bit more conservative with my potion use. I might spend some of my money in making a potion injector rather than having to use Water Skin potions for each Slime. I¡¯ll have to visit the blacksmith before night. Apparently for such ¡°fine work¡± it will set me back twenty gold. I think I got ripped off but it''s worth the investment. I¡¯ll buy thirty alchemy sets then keep ten gold for emergencies. Looks like it''s getting dark. I¡¯ll call it a night and head to the inn. Ch. 5 (Nice catch) 2/15/1302 Day 7 I think I could use a chef at the camp. After eating the free breakfast offered by the adventurer''s guild I can guarantee that it''s much better then dried monster meat. It¡¯s too bad it cost five gold a day for a personal chef of this caliber. I could hire a cheap one. Some go around 20 silvers a day. eh, It would probably do more harm than good. Looks like My injector won¡¯t be done till later today. I think I¡¯ll look around the area for some good gadgets. I found some interesting pieces around the market. Looks like the festival starts today so the shop owners are bringing out their best stuff. I might just have to sell my supply if I find anything worth it. I found something worth it. Way worth it. Some merchant was selling a midgrade Healing Manual. I had to trade most of my supply but I caught it before anyone else. These things are so rare i''m surprised to find it at some town in the middle of nowhere. Even it capitals you would hardly find anyone selling Magic Manuals of any kind let alone a mid grade one. I''m not the healer type, however with this I can create one of the most useful item type Slimes. The healing slime is something that every person would need to start alchemy. Their cores can be used in healing potions. It¡¯s not necessary, however the constant core production can help to make a lot of potions in a short amount of time.. Maybe I could hire someone to make some when i''m producing the slimes. Could make for a profitable business to earn more gold. I¡¯ll continue the log after I check in with the blacksmith. This book''s true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience. Everything is all set up. I should be ready to head back to camp. The Injector is of decent quality as well. The metal is a bit soft to penetrate anything above the Rock Slimes level of hardness. I could use an Iron Slime core to increase the penetration a bit. Once I make one that is. I¡¯ll continue the log after I get back to the camp. I¡¯m back and it appears that the Slimes have been busy. Blue Slime x26 Red Slime x14 Moss Slime x14 Rock Slime x9 + Spiked Rock Slime x1 Rock Moss Slime x1 Gray Slime x5 I¡¯m going to start learning the healing spell. Unfortunately this won¡¯t be as simple as reading the book once or twice. The process will first require me to have a basic understanding of The light element associated with this spell. This will take a few days. Even for someone with talent it would take a day to be able to use a spell, years to be able to improve it, and decades to master it. I hear anyone able to master a spell could become a Royal Magician. I think once you master an element you would be called an Elder Mage. Last was an Arch mage said to be in control of all elements. No Arch Mages have shown up in thousands of years though. That¡¯s a bit beyond my level of talent anyway. I was only able to use high tier magic due to my dedication to fire magic. I remember spending most of my childhood researching and thinking about how cool it was. I''m not sure if i¡¯ll be able to become a Royal Magician or not, but all my teachers said Elder mage was out of my ability level. It''s kinda sad that I can never master Fire magic. I''m not going to stop trying, but it¡¯s still a letdown. I don¡¯t think I¡¯ll have to do many more cave runs. At most S¡¯ll go back in to find rare slimes deeper inside. I think I will do one more run. Maybe I can find a good one. No luck. Tomorrow when I have more time I¡¯ll be sure to go deeper in the cave. It looks like the mouth is just filled with basic types and useless item types. Its getting dark now. It¡¯s time to call it a night. I miss that cooking. Ch. 6 (Strange behavior) 2/16/1302 Day 8 I¡¯m going to start working with the basic combination types and Feed item types. Another explanation is needed for the Feed item types. The research done by many evolutionists before me were not in vain. Many Feed types Slimes were found to be extremely useful in terms of improvement of equipment or production of high ranked tools. The research found a Slimes diet can cause a change in their structure. This seems to be a reaction to their environment. You see Slimes tend to eat what''s in front of them with little concern of how dangerous it is. Typically they find things that are most common in the area. The researchers believed that this was a way for the Slimes to adapt to their environment. For example Slimes in an open field with only grass to feed on would eventually take the form of a Grass Slime, growing spikes on top of their body while they take on a shade of green in the process. Or like the Rock Slimes in the cave, they gain a protective suit of stone armor on top of their form once they can sustain a steady diet of rocks. All of this may seem super useful, however some materials have a much lower level of success than others. There is also the differences Red Slimes and Blue Slimes have when comparing what they can consume. Blue Slimes have a hard time feeding on things like rocks and metal, while Red Slimes have a hard time feeding on things like trees and grass. Anything living has mana, so Blue Slimes with their weak defense can absorb it. Red Slimes on the other hand can absorb the properties of materials due to their low physical resistance. This helps to strengthen the Slimes a lot. The Slime absorbs the properties of the opposite spectrum while feeding, giving them both Physical and Magical Resistance. Let me give you an example. Say a Pink Slime feeds on lots of rocks and eventually becomes a Rock Slime. Now not only did it keep its previous High Magic Resistance, but also Its Physical Damage Resistance was raised by the properties of the Rock. This increase in defence can easily raised a Slimes rank by a whole level. So for now i¡¯ll stop feeding the Basic Slimes Neutral Mana and get them started with a fine appetizer of Healing potion for the blue Slime, and Iron for the Red Slime. I¡¯ll be testing five at a time. This might take longer than expected. I¡¯ll go for a cave run and continue the log if something happens. So I¡¯m at the cave. Something seems wrong. The Slimes appear to be avoiding an area of the cave wall. I¡¯ll investigate and report what I find. Now that I¡¯ve gotten a closer look not all the Slimes are avoiding the wall. It looks like some Rocks Slimes are madly pounding their body against the cave wall. This is kind of creepy. They¡¯re literally killing themselves by smashing their bodies apart. Wait It looks like another species joined in. Oh, this is something. It''s a Metal Slime. This is a big chance. I¡¯ve done it. I needed to use one of my Freeze Spell Crystals to keep it from smashing itself to death, however it was well worth. Mind you this isn¡¯t just a simple Iron Slime. This is a Slime whose entire composition is made from the pure essence of metal. The Iron slime would probably hold a fiftieth of the essence found within this guy. The Slime are still bashing themselves against that wall. They are digging down by the looks of it. I¡¯ve never heard of Slimes working together to this extent. They look like they have a goal. I don¡¯t think Slimes have the capacity to have this level of coordination. It looks more like a Giant Ant colony than a Slime dungeon at this point. Another one! Another metal slime. Only if these guys could breed together I would have just become a millionair. Got it. I¡¯ll keep grabbing them as long as this lasts. Wow that was something. In total I got five Metal Slimes. These guys are miniature treasures on their own. The cost for just the membrane of these little guys is around ten gold. The cores go for upwards of one hundred to two hundred gold. No matter what metal is used in the crafting of an object these cores can increase the hardness or flexibility by two to three times their original. There haven''t been anymore metal slimes for awhile. I''m going back to camp to check the results of the Feeding types. The log will continue when I get there. This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there. So far so good. Around two Red Slimes and three Blue Slimes are starting to show evidence of the evolution process. One more day of feeding and those five should be all ready. Ones core has already started to change color. Quite the ¡°exciting¡± process. I think I can focus on other experiments now. I''m going to attempt to implement one of the alchemy recipes I picked up back at town. A weakening potion should help with deciding which slime is the parent. We don¡¯t want the Metal Slimes to die so i''m going to first experiment with the Mossy Slimes and Rock Slimes. For these experiments i¡¯ll have the Mossy Slime be the surviving Slime. This time I¡¯ll have a barrier set up for safety. Types - Mossy Slime + Rock Slime(weakened) -- Survivor - none Offspring - none -- Survivor - none Offspring - none -- Survivor - none Offspring - none -- Survivor - none Offspring - none -- Survivor - Mossy Slime Offspring - Rock Moss Slime -- Survivor - none Offspring - none -- Survivor - Mossy Slime Offspring - Rock Moss Slime -- Well that¡¯s unexpected. I thought the first time I made a Rock Moss Slime was a fluke. Judging by the results there must be some kind of instability issue with the two combining with the Mossy Slime being the incubator. After each failure the core within the Mossy Slime became unstable and exploded sending small hard green rock shards hitting towards the barrier I set up. After picking up the shard I made my way over to the beaker I had prepared with the shards left over from the first explosion. What I found was the beaker turned into a fist sized pile of green stone. I Picked out the stone with my fingers to find the test tube fully intact. This could make a good preservative agent if applied right. More testing will have to be done with this. Anyway this is more than enough proof to start testing with the Metal Slimes. Let the fun begin. There isn¡¯t much Data on the ability gained through metal slime breeding so I¡¯ll test two of each species. I will be killing off one Metal Slime to allow the injector to pierce their membrane. Metal Slime + Blue Slime(Weakened) -- Survivor - Metal Slime x2 Offspring - Metallic Slime x2 -- Metal Slime + Red Slime(Weakened) -- Survivor - Metal Slime x2 Offspring - Metallic Slime x2 --- As expected. Next are the Item type Slimes. --- Metal Slime + Mossy Slime(Weakened) -- Survivor - Metal Slime x2 Offspring - none --- Strange nothing happened. The core didn¡¯t even react to the other core. After the Condensidosi wore off the Slime just spit it out like normal. Back to testing --- Metal Slime + Rock Slime(Weakened) -- Survivor - Metal Slime x2 Offspring - Metal Ore Slime x2 --- Well that was unexpected. To think you could get a better item type from the combination of an item and elemental Slime. Maybe it has something to do with the relation between the two. Maybe it has to do with the Rock Slime being an item type. Eh, there''s no worth thinking over it. I think i¡¯ll take a risk for this next one. --- Metal Slime + Spiked Rock Slime(Weakened) -- Survivor - Metal Slime Offspring - Sharp Metal Ore Slime --- That was¡ also unexpected. A sharp ore. Usually the sharp enchantment can be added to weapons to increase the sharpness. This sharpness on the other hand seems to be imbued into the ore itself. I wonder if I melt the ore would the metal keep the sharpness attribute. This guy looks like it eats Iron Ore. so I should be able to do some test once it grows enough on his body. Next. --- Metal Slime + Rock Moss Slime(Weakened) -- Survivor - None Offspring - None --- I¡¯m lucky to be alive. The Experiment was a failure. A lot of my equipment is damaged including myself. It looks like something similar to what happened between the Rock Slime and Mossy Slime. After it formed some Green metallic substance on the outside of the Metal Slime core it blasted out in a violent reaction. One Of the fragments have embedded itself into my leg. It looks like it¡¯s not coming out either. The amount of force required to get through three layers of mana barrier is ridiculous. I need to get to town and get a healer. I¡¯ll report when i get there. I¡¯m getting tired I don¡¯t know if I can make it. My leg stopped working. I don¡¯t have time. I need to set up a barrier and sleep here. If I die, to anyone who finds this Log, give it to the Deen of the Academy of The Birtha Kingdom. I¡¯m sure you would be given a large reward. I¡¯m so tired¡ I¡¯ll continue the log if I wake up. Not a chapter (Update) (Poll) Sorry for the lack of a ch. 7. I¡¯ve recently looked over the chapters that I¡¯ve made and decided it doesn¡¯t fit well with the tone of the story. You see I write about two to three chapters ahead so I can keep a daily upload schedule, however after reading and looking over them it doesn¡¯t sit well with me. I¡¯ll be taking a few days to redo the story and get back to daily uploads. This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report. I¡¯ve also added a poll to get your input with the story so far. I¡¯ll attempt to get the story going again in another two or three days. Ch. 7 (Recovery) I¡¯m still alive. I managed to wake up just before it became dark out. I¡¯m sure if I was to sleep a little bit longer I would have froze to death. I attempted to repair my leg enough for me to be able to limp with the little healing magic I can use. I¡¯m going to try and make it to town before I pass out from the pain. I¡¯m currently in the health clinic in the town waiting for the healer to treat my leg. It sure is taking a long time but I think I¡¯m okay for the time being. I feel a bit relieved and insulted at the same time. The healer said that the leg is fine and can be healed back to working order. At the same time he kept asking me what kind of idiot healer would attempt to seal a wound with an object still inside. They¡¯re going to have to rip it out before healing my leg back up. I hope this isn¡¯t as painful as it sounds. I¡¯m never combining slimes again without at least ten, no twenty layers of protection. That was one of the worst experiences of my life. Apparently the shard was embedded into my leg so they had to pull it open again before they could take it out.. Afterwards they healed everything back up. I still have to stay here for a bit until they give me the bill for the healing. Twenty gold. It was twenty gold for the treatment. If you ask me this is a huge scam. It¡¯s not like it cost them anything to heal me. At most they would have to hire healers and even then It would only cost them around ten gold a week. At least I¡¯m alive I guess. After having a look at the shard they pulled out of my leg I have no idea what it is. It seems to be some kind of hard metal. I¡¯m not an expert so I might have to ask somebody. For now I need to check up on my equipment. I¡¯ll log what I find when I get back. 2/17/1302 Day 9 It looks like a good portion of my stuff was destroyed by the explosion. I lost a few healing potions and some experimental brews. Looks like my water container has a few holes in it as well. I¡¯ll have to restock on some of this stuff. Most of its dirt cheap but the healing potions will set me back about thirty gold. I think it''s time to start setting up an experiment lab so something like this doesn¡¯t happen again. For now I need to clean up this place. Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions. I¡¯ve managed to get most of the broken parts cleaned up. By the looks of it the Slimes have been working on their numbers while I was gone. Blue Slime x32 Red Slime x19 Moss Slime x21 Rock Moss Slime x2 Gray Slime x9 Metal Slime x3 Metallic Slime x4 Metal Ore Slime x2 + Sharp Metal Ore Slime x1 Potion Slime x3 Iron Ore Slime x2 You might notice two new types in the list. I¡¯ll log their properties. Potion Slime - A Slime whose core is known to have a use in strengthening effect on non elemental potions. Their cores are mostly used by older alchemist to increase the effect of their potion for sale. Reproduction by feeding Slimes any none elemental based potions. Iron Ore Slime - Slime with iron ore growing on its back. The iron content of the slime is low so it¡¯s soft after processing. Mostly used in production of metal ornaments or large scale metal decorations for nobles. Reproduction by feeding Slimes rich iron ore. If you¡¯re wondering why I didn¡¯t use pure Iron it¡¯s because any kind of processed metal has the risk of having the slime just turn Metallic. Both of these were made for the purpose of assisting me in my experiments. They can reproduce so If I can get a good amount of each type going I can start on some construction of the lab. There are a few things that I¡¯ll need to do beforehand. I¡¯ll need to hire an architect and maybe a few builders. I would also like some kind of aesthetic for the bedroom. The lab could be in the basement while I can craft potions and the like in the upstairs alchemy lab. It would be nice to make the whole house out of metal so I don''t have to worry about any experiments gone wrong. maybe I should get some harder metal for the basement to protect from any large explosions. So many options. That''s all still a bit far away. For just the building cost it would total around a few tens of thousands of gold. For now I might want to get my basics back up before even considering upgrading. At least I know this place is all back to normal. Before then I''m going to use my last few Alchemy sets so I can make some more Metallic Slimes. -- Metal Slime + Blue Slime (Weakened) -- Survivor - Metal Slime x5 Offspring - Metallic Slime x5 -- I''m out of alchemy sets now. I need to kill off some Slimes and sell their cores. It pains me a bit to not allow these guys to reproduce, however I''m in need of money now. So I decided to kill off a few Metallic Slimes, some Gray Slimes, and a good amount of Blue Slimes. The Blue Slimes alone should cover the cost of repairing this place. The rest are to get some more alchemy sets and pay for the blacksmith to appraise these metal shards. I¡¯ll continue once I get to town. Looks like I underestimated the time left in the day. I don¡¯t think i¡¯ll make it to town before nightfall so I¡¯ll set up camp here. Camps all set up and I¡¯m ready to call it a day. All in all it was a okay day except for having my leg torn open, all my stuff destroyed, and maybe the fact that I¡¯m out of water. Ch. 8 (Blacksmiths dream) 2/18/1302 Day 10 The cores sold well. Right now I¡¯m totaling about three hundred and ten gold. Before I buy any alchemy sets I think I¡¯ll go to the blacksmith and ask him about these shards. That was a unexpected. At first he looked at me like I was some kind of thief. I keep telling him to just have a quick look and if it wasn''t worth anything I would just pay him and leave. He didn¡¯t really budge until I handed him five gold. He banged on it a few times with a hammer before turning to me with a dumbfounded look on his face. Soon after he began to spiel on about the goal of all blacksmiths to craft a legendary weapon from all metals in the world and bla bla bla. I didn¡¯t really start paying attention until he told me he¡¯s never seen this type of metal before. This is basically impossible. If you didn¡¯t know blacksmiths of this world must all pass a test to have a title of a blacksmith. The humans used to have close relations with the dwarfs. Nobody knows exactly how long ago but apparently the dwarfs passed on the art of metalworking to the humans. Each human who came back after training with them required their own disciples to take the test. After a while this tradition stuck. Some kingdoms even decided to name the blacksmith art an holy profession. These type of things spread and became almost religiously followed. Anyway the point I¡¯m trying to make is that in the test blacksmith trainees must be able to identify each type of metal and at least fifty types common alloys. That''s just for a basic level blacksmith. This is a gold standard shop making it just below noble standards. This means this guy would have to know all the types of alloys as well. I thought he was just joking when he offered his whole shop to buy that shard from me. I didn¡¯t start to believe him until he explained that any blacksmith who found a new metal would be given personal training by the dwarfs master blacksmiths in the dwarf capital. This is an honor not given to humans for the last fifty years since the discovery of Rhodium. If he sold his shop I wouldn¡¯t be able to buy any equipment needed for future experiments. I tried to talk him down from selling me his shop but he wouldn¡¯t budge. After I told him I¡¯m not a smith so I couldn¡¯t even own a smithy he came to his senses. I explained to him that my lane of work requires certain metalwork to keep going. This is the point where the smith offered me a proposition that I couldn¡¯t deny. He said that after his training is done he would become my personal smith. Asking him what level of smith he would be after coming back he responded with a big surprise. At least it would be of a royal standard and at highest something close to a god standard. These titles are something that even kings would drool over. I quickly agreed and asked him how long it would take him. He says it should only be about one year. At least that''s how long it took other smiths to come back after training. If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation. The time was a bit long to wait for my equipment so I asked him when someone would take over his shop. He told me it should only take a week or so for another smith to show up. I decided to take a risk and handed over half the shards in my possession. After that I¡¯ve been waiting on him to get back. He said something about needing to get his equipment before he left and took off towards the residential district. I¡¯ve been waiting here for awhile. I wonder if I¡¯ve made a mistake. Looks like not. I think this counts as anything but a mistake. He gave me a rarity in this part of the world. Even the most uncommon smith would only have one or two bars of this stuff, however for him to have five whole bars of pure mithril¡ I think I¡¯ve just hit the jackpot. He just handed them to me before running back into his workshop. There seems to be a lot of noise coming from inside. I¡¯m not sure what to do any more. He just ran out carrying what looked like a whole bunch of hammers and chisels before asking me my name. As soon as I told him he ran off before I could ask him any questions. Should I wait for him, or should I just finish my shopping? I think the more important question here is why am I questioning an inanimate log book? I should just go. He left his shop open but I doubt anyone would steal from it for the fear of the consequences of being found guilty of a holy crime. This is one of the holy blacksmith countries after all. So far I¡¯ve sold off all of my cores. Now I¡¯m on my way to the crafting district for some more alchemy sets. Right now I¡¯m totaling three hundred twenty one Gold and twenty five Silver. Oh fun fact, silver is going to be a dead currency in just a matter of years. Apparently with the large influx of gold over the now regained peace treaty with the dwarfs, it¡¯s basically ruined the original economy of almost all kingdoms. A few lesser kingdoms even fell before some of the larger ones banded together to help even out the economy again. Silver is needed for products like food and furniture, however the same could be said for copper not just ten years ago. Right now the human world is running on the 1=100 system where the lesser coin, let''s say silver if gather up to one hundred in its value it would be equivalent to one gold. However this is soon to be replaced by the group of kingdoms I wrote about earlier. They already abolished the bits and copper''s value as currency. I was born around the time they god rid of bits so I¡¯ve never seen what they look like, but I heard it was some crappy iron coin. Who would have thought that about twenty scraps of iron equivalent to a small dagger in weight could buy you a full loaf of bread. Bread now runs you about three silver so the price in just the course of thirty years has increased over five thousand times. It¡¯s a mystery how those kings found a way to control the economy so it didn¡¯t burn. Eh, who knows I''m not a noble so I''m not good with money anyway. Okay, looks like business is booming here. time to start looking around.
