《A Deranged World》 Prologue: A Night of Unbelievable Fright Just as I considered myself slowly dying in the midst of darkness, I heard the familiar noise of running footsteps. The kind of sound I never assumed would be the same drone I''d get to hear for the rest of my life. Or so it goes... ??? Everything before me was drowned in pitch black. Blood was coursing down in each side of my face as my hands trembled uncontrollably. My mouth suddenly felt dry like embers for some reason. My vision blurry and it seemed as though I''m going to crumble any moment from now. Every single limb of mine felt subtly frail and brittle, but I managed to stand anyway. As my eyes struggled to focus on my surroundings, they adjusted to the gloomy darkness I had unknowingly fallen asleep in. At this point in time, I wished they didn''t. The grotesquely gory scene before me wasn''t such a pleasant sight to see. With walls bathed in murky red color, and the floor beneath my feet feeling wet and sticky as pools of red iron-scented liquid blotted the once white and clean tiles of this place, I felt real unadultered fear for once. With shaky legs and trembling hands, I tried to walk around but the weakness in my lower limbs persisted and then there I was, down on the cold and wet floor. The sensation of blood on my skin made my face go pale which wasn''t spared from the night-timeblood bath. It was uncomfortable but I didn''t stand up right away. With me lying there unmoving, I began to noticed other things. The blood was, how do you describe it, fresh? My eyes grew wider as I realized how dangerous this place really is. Countless questions plagued my mind but one stood out from the rest. Did all this happen just recently? That thought terrified me greatly. I didn''t even notice I had curled into a ball hugging and comforting myself. Silent whimpers echoed out which only accentuated what was already scary enough for me. A few minutes later, I managed to gather a bit of courage and decided to finally move on. Wiping away my tears and snot, I stood up and walked decisively but it was short-lived. I fell down again on blood-filled floor when I stumbled on a large bulky object. On a closer look, it was a corpse of a middle-aged man sporting a horrified face. "Hiiii!" I whimpered. This isn''t funny! Is this a dream? Or perhaps a reality tv show? PLEASE! ANYONE! PLEASE TELL ME THIS ISN''T REAL! With one shock coming after another, I became numb towards everything and just accepted it. Something in me might have broken already. Was it my heart or my head? Hahahahaha. I think I''m losing it. This place is unhealthy for themind.Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more. Now that I''ve thought about it, It''s quite a wonder as to how I survived through this hell. With my body whole and unscathed. Aside from my weakened body and my disoriented mind, nothing seems to be out of place. Observing the room more clearly, the body I''ve stumbled upon wasn''t all alone. There were other bodies too. Belonging to different kinds of people given their clothes. There''s even elders here and children with very young ages. They''re all dead of course. They must have suffered a lot when they were killed. Seeing some of the bodies mangled beyond recognition, my expression turned difficult. What kind of monsters could do these sick acts of killing? The monsters that have done this, did they already leave? What if they didn''t? I frantically looked around but found nothing but bodies greeting me. The hairs on my back suddenly stood on ceremony as a sense of danger warned me of something that could truly endanger me. I must get out of here! Fast! I looked around for any visible exits and racked my brain for any information that I know of about this place. My memories, or lack thereof, made me feel that something was amiss. I gathered my thoughts but was disoriented by the influx of various information and the suddenness of this situation. I was so lost in thought that - I failed to notice the dangers lurking around just out of sight. I didn''t even notice the six pairs of glowing red orbs staring right at me drooling at my delicious and tender flesh. Drip. Drip. Drip. Saliva was dripping down from the ceiling above. Looking at all of it again, this scene may pretty well be from a typical horror movie. Hold on. Saliva? "FUCK!" I can''t help but curse after I turned my head up to look at the ceiling above. Saliva continued to fall down and some even made its way on tomy face as I continued to stare at the abominations overhead. One of the silhouettes grew larger and larger, no, it was getting nearer and nearer and so I lurched forward avoiding the pounce by a hair''s breadth. They all dropped down shuffling around and moved to encircle me. Although they were clearly humanoids, they were using all of their limbs for movement. One. Two. Three. Four. There were four of those "things" or whatever they are I cannot say, just that they were tall and scrawny armed with long frontal limbs with long sharp nails which could very well be called as claws already. Because of poor illumination, I wasn''t able to make out their features aside from their builds and their nasty crooked nails. They started to move about and observing every move I made. Carefully assessing the prey before them. While I was looking around for a hole in their formation, two more participated in the hunt. Great. Just what I needed. More of them coming to haunt me in this nightmare. If this truly was just a nightmare and my brain playing tricks on me, I want to wake up already! With such an unbelievable situation, this must all be just a bad dream. Yes. This must be a dream. I''m lying right now in my comfy bed as I peacefully snored the night away. One of them jumped in front of me and slashed. It was already to late to dodge it so I titled my body to minimize the damage that I would take. Shit. This is real. My bleeding side stinging with pain was like a splash of cold water. I began to treat this very seriously and desperately tried to think of a way to get out of this crappy situation. "GROOOUUUH" Bloodcurdling growls emitted from these vile creatures which didn''t seem to be natural at all. It clearly wasn''t anything human-like despite them being humanoid creatures. The lights suddenly flickered on and everyone got blinded by the unexpected surge of light. Sensing my chance, I ran towards a random direction with my eyes closed. I ran and ran and when I opened my eyes, what I saw was something really... Bad. Twelve blood-clad lunatics smile at me almost simultaneously. They seemed to be able to coordinate well despite their eyes showing not a speck of reason. Now, how will I survive this? Only one thought came up to me. Run, of course! Chapter 1: The Door Without Light The last thing I needed was a couple of psychos chasing me down a dark and considerably narrow corridor. And so far, the only person who could save me is a deranged girl - Or so it goes. . . . A couple of minutes ago - back when I almost considered myself beyond reasonable doubt - lights began to flicker around me, and a panorama of a bloodstained ivory room stripped into view. Only then, did I got the chance to escape six bloodstained maniacs who had me surrounded cutting off any path of escape. Remembering their drooling mouths as if I was some kind of tasty meal, which in fact, was unnecessarily right brought me goosebumps. Next thing I knew, I was being led by a mysterious character who calls herself Alisa. The girl was wearing a black miniskirt with a sleeveless yellow shirt on top saying "I''m hot, you''re not" which was quite humorous given the current set of circumstances. Her age would be around 16 years old which would make her the same age as me. To top it all off, her emerald green eyes suits her long wavy black hair. She could only be described as an angel if it weren''t for the knife with blood dripping from it. From what I could see, this chick shouldn''t be taken lightly. Did I mention that she is smoking hot? You know what? She really is. Without a single doubt. By the looks of things, we''re currently running away from what I can simply put as zombies. They didn''t even notice the large gashes they had in their gut thanks to Alisa. Nor did they have the sense of pain a normal human would have. If not for their builds which were a bit different from humans, they would be like the zombies I see in the movies I liked to watch. We sped through many corridors clearly unaware of what lies ahead. Due to the white but bloodstained walls and the outfits of the carcasses that could be seen just about everywhere, this might have once been a hospital. The walls, the ceilings... even on the floor... blood was everywhere. It gives me the chills as to how many bodies would''ve been needed to produce this much blood. "This way". I was caught off guard by her sudden voice filled with urgency that I did not notice how she sounded like.Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. I followed her through the murk until we came upon a concealed door leading to a room you wouldn''t expect to fit here. Hearing the footsteps just around the corner, I complained. "Those bastards are still tailing us!" I said in a panicky voice. "Let''s get in there". Alisa motioned on a trapdoor made of oak concealed on the floor. She then went and pulled it as I prayed hard for it to be open. ''Please be open! Please!'' And God seemed to have heard my prayers as Alisa successfully opened the door. Without waiting for her, I quickly rushed in for cover. . . . Normally, any person stuck in the same scenario we''re in would''ve flipped in absolute panic by now. We were obviously in a life and death situation as we speak, and yet, seeing how she could still muster the guts to grin over this serious matter, made me question her sanity. The room on one hand, was a total mess. Hundred of papers and folders littered the floor beneath us. I was just about to pick up some documents to read when Alisa whisphered something in my ear. Close! Too close! "Barricade the door with something". Ignoring the cold and commanding tone, her voice sounded heavenly just like the singers in the operas you could hear in television. I went towards the bookshelf and tried moving it to block the door we came from. Hnnggg!Too heavy! I looked towards Alisa to ask for help but she was walking towards the only door in the room aside from the one we came through. "Be careful" I warned. She still went on nonchalantly ignoring what I have said out of concern. With the bookshelf''s heavy weight, I gave up and moved towards the table near the door. As I was on my way, my gaze fell upon an open safe. Curiosity got the best of me and I plunged my hand inside. I could feel a few neatly ordered pieces of papers and a folder. I took the folder to look at its contents. I began reading its contents and my expression changed many times. It''s kinda bizzare, really. The contents contained research documents on human experimentations. It wasn''t complete though. It was clearly lacking a few pages especially the results and the side effects of the experiments. Growing more interested, I took the few pieces of paper inside the safe and read through them. They contained a few profiles of experimental candidates and their data. I just browsed through them not knowing one of the profiles there was mine. On the paper read: Romano Grimfells. 16. Program Bokor candidate. . "Hey Alisa, take a look at this!" Hearing no response, I turned and saw no one was inside the room. The door Alisa was intending to open was wide ajar leading to an endless void of darkness. Despite the fear of encountering more of those zombiefied crazies, I still went in hoping to not lose the only living human that this place might have. Chapter 2: Were not Alone(PREVIEW) Seeing more of my kind still being up and about made me happy. But the pointy metal bar raised at me and my hand tied behind my back killed the moodfor this reunion. Disasters really bring the inner darkness of mankind - Or so it goes. . . . When I came in, all I can see is nothing. Everything is just the way I woke up an hour ago. I wandered around aimlessly hoping for some light to just turn on just like last time. After a few minutes of venturing the void, I began to panic thinking that zombies may lurk in this murk. Just imagining those flesh-hungry fiends gives me the creeps. This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it. "I don''t want another reunion with those freaks." I mumbled as I waved my hands forward to avoid crashing into a wall. Not crashing into anything for the entire time I''ve been walking, I suspected this place may be very large. I look back to the direction I came from but I can''t make out anything in this dark environment. "No wonder she got lost here" I said under my breath. "Alisa! Alisa! Where are you?!" ''Shit. I just gave my location away!'' How stupid was I to not think of doing such eye-catching actions. After a few moments of deafening silence, Bang! Something hard hit me in the back of my head. I crumpled down on the cold hard floor with my consciousness quickly fading.
