《Death Contract》 Prologue People make such a big deal about death, when It''s nothing special. When it comes down to it, you either become a ghost or your soul gets lost in the darkness as your past totures you. As well as death, mortals freak out about ghosts. When the fact is ghosts are all around them, what with the contract they seal with us ghosts. The people who freak out about death and the spirits, should actually be worried about wether or not they were a peice of shit or not in life, same goes for the rest of the people. Being a shit is exactly how you end up in the void. I was born a ghost yet i still remember my death, although it''s very... splotchy. Honestly from what is availiable to see in the memory, humanity wasn''t very kind. The good side of the memory was it made sense of why my powers are what they are. Plus the fact that it made sense of why all ghosts have powers, that are not what people beleive they are. My powers just happen to be battlefeild foresight and create. I have no clue how long I''ve been dead. But i''m fifteen years old as a ghost. And from the contracts i''ve been enthralled in, the worlds been changing quite a bit.The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. The living might think the ''afterlife'' is a blank void or two places. But actually, it''s much like the mortal realm. Like living people, ghosts withold jobs, except the equipment that is used can''t harm the user. We even have pets, of course they''re spirits like the rest. Honestly, there really isn''t much difference between ghosts and the living souls. Well actuallly now that I think about it... Chapter 1 "Ugh! This job sucks. Not to mention the people that enter are all like, ''Ahh! i''m dead! Whoa is me!'' It''s so annoying. Why do I have to deal with it every day!" I moaned as I stood at the gate to the Necroplis. "Oh be quiet Elaena. The job you have is a great honor, you should be proud the High Court chose you for it!" Disapproved Fayra, a local tavern owner, who just happened to be passing by, like she does every morning. "You can''t say anything! Because you don''t have to get up at the butt crack of dawn, just to deal with people freaking out cause they''re dead!" I retorted. The colors that showed our mood changed. From the middle of her lower arms and legs all the way to her fingertips and toes, the color changed from light blue to vermillion. And the colors on my limbs changed from brown to purple. Signifying that her mood changed from calm to happy, her expression didn''t help. And my colors signified that I was bitter now i''m being aggressive. "Sorry to burst your bubble, Elaena, but I have to get up at dawn too. And be careful your face may not show it but your colors certainly do. Plus it''s the afternoon so hush up." Fayra smiled and walked off waving goodbye. My colors changed to vermillion as well, but like she said my didn''t show it as it stayed bored looking. As warping sounds of the portal being open were to be heard, the colour snapped to brown as another person who died appeared. This one looked as if he was escaping punishment from death. Luckily he wasn''t to hard to look at. With his short dark brown hair and deep blue eyes, he had quite the appeal. I bet it was that way when he was alive. It was actually a sad sight when his sukissed skin faded to the generally ghastly tone for us ghost. But i''ve seen that all before. Back to his appearance, what I found most appealing were the blue-ish black cat ears and the tail of same colloring that flicked in confusion, as he stumbled out of the gate. He was a Fauness like me, except i''m not a cat , more of wolf. His memories floated in front of me as a wisp that swirled in play. It took all but a minute to reveiw the memories. He seemed to be quite the romantic, and the cat ears and tail didn''t help. But he was only seventeen, older than me, but still young. He didn''t do anything wrong in his life, so Hefara the god of death must have given him a second chance. This man is lucky. I waved away the wisp and looked at the newly found ghost with the look I give everyone, utter boredom and one that''s uncaring. I only found him staring right back at. The look he gave me would swallow most women whole, one that ate you whole. Just with that, he was figured. My tailed began to sway in irritation. The colors already began to show on him, light green. Distrustful. Well this is unbeleivable. The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement. "Well aren''t you the cocky one?" I questioned. Before I continued, i willed my emotions to calm, and the brown coloration of my aura changed to light blue. "I not sure what you''re talking about. How can someone not stare at a beauty such as you." "Oh so you''re going to be that king o-" "Elaena!" Yelled my best friend Marinette. She jumped onto my back and started rubbing my ears. "You need to hold out your arm, you now you shouldn''t leave Sariel alone." She pouted. By this time she had wrapped her legs around my slim stomach, and I was holding out my hand as a perch for my raven Sariel. Marinette''s attention still on me the topic got to my hair and the fur of my ears. Which happened to be the natural combination of mint green and cherry red. "Did you brush it? You have to keep it glossy beca-" She cut herself when i assume she realized the newly dead was there. " I see you got another one?" she questioned. "Today must be my lucky day. I got to meet two new beauties." He said swavly. "Wow, he really is new." Marinette pointed out. She rested her chin on my head and let her orchid colored rabbit ears droop into my veiw. Marrienette was a fauness as well. I began to pet Sariel per her request. I sighed and closed my eyes for a minute, then opened them back up. "Well your comments have gotten insufferable already, mr.douche, before you make us swoon, you learn where you are." I pointed out. " You ''sir'' are in the Necroplis. And as such are dead." I gave no sympathy in my words, in fact I didn''t give any emotion. "W-what?" He bagan to back up as panic spread across his face and the once green that spread over the areas that should auras that all ghost have, now turned orange. And mine went clear for no emotion. "You, Kai Hashimoto, were killed in a murder, and the god of death took pity upon you." I said blankly as if programmed. "T-that doesn''t make s-sense!" He stuttered, backing up even more. I sighed an dthe color went back to blue. "You''re just like the rest, I actually had a shred of hope." I shrugged shifting Marienette''s arms as well, but she didn''t seem to care. "Aww, that''s an honor dude. Ena doesn''t hope for anything. How disappointing." Sighed Marienette, her jaw flexing against my head. I used my power of creation to summon a simple kitchen knife. I flipped in my hand, once, twice. Then I looked at Kai, my foresight was already working, he''s going to run left. He took his step in that direction, and I threw the knife at him, it only to go right through him. He stopped in realization, and patted himself over. "See, you''re ghost and are dead. You are only able to remember your death as of late. Now that we have that settled" I shook off Marinette and set Sariel on my shoulder, scratched her head, then dropped my arms to my side. "Well Marinette I need two things from you." I faced her. "Yes ma''am!" She saluted playfully. "One. What are you doing here? And two, I need you to take Mr.Hashimoto to get his paperwork." I commanded. "Can do!" She saluted again, "And the reason I''m here is..." Chapter 2 "Well the reason I''m here, other than I wanted to see you, is. As official messenger of the High Court, Elaena Fellwitch, have been presented with a letter of attendance and recognition. And are to appear at the Fallen castle within twelve hours of reading the letter." Marinette said in formality as she fished the letter from her brown knapsack, that contrasted with the colours from her light pink and blue outfit. I flicked my attention to Kai Hashimoto, just in curiosity. The colors that graced the middle of his forearms and lower legs all the way down to his finger tips and toes, (the same as the rest of the rest of us ghosts), along with it being orange, they began shifting, signifying his confusion. His throat bobbed and then he opened his mouth. "Stupid question. But are you two in some kind of relation ship, you know romantic wise?" Both his and Marinette''s color changed to light pink, and blushed was clearly seen on their ghostly white faces. The blue on my arms and legs snapped to purple. Before my answer was spoken, I took the packed letter from Marinette, and began to walk away. "Right that was an idiotic question, but no we''re just really good freinds." Was my reply, and I began to get further away, but closer and closer to my home. "Aww come on Ena, we''re at least best freinds!!" Mari, my nickname for her, called after me in a whiney voice. Sariel, now flying above cawed for my response. Sariel is my raven as well as my familiar, it does make sense I am a witch. I sighed willing to calm. I paused, crouched down to jump and did so. From where i stood in the cobbled street i jumped up onto one of the many tiled roofs of the town of which I live. I kept bent at the hip, as I ran and leaped across the houses. Until I reached one with black tile, and a red brick chimney and walked up to it, only to dive through it, as this was my house. And the fire place was never used as long as I have lived here. With Sariel following after I barreled into my living room, lights off and everything in order. I didn''t bother with lighting the candles and went straight to my bedroom, leaving a trail with the clothes I had on, except for the undergarments of course. I sat on my bed. I looked ashamed at the bandages wrapped around my chest. "The lengths I go through just to hide them." I sighed and started unwrapping the bandages. Like the other clothes I threw them on the floor. I put on a bra for the occasion of going to the castle. But for actual clothing, I put on a frilly white sleevless crop top, with gold lace, and a purple long sleeved vest, and buttoned it only once across the middle of my chest, the vest had a gold trim to match the shirt like clothing underneath. Then simplly just put on white shorts that went mid thigh. And simple knee high lace up brown boots. Nothing fancy. I got up again and opened up the letter, took the two pages in it. Then walked to the front door, beckoned Sariel to my shoulder, and walked out. As I walked I read the letter, not needing to look where I was going, as I know the path by instinct.Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more. The letter read, "Dear Elaena Fellwitch, You are cordially invited to the ball veterans and protectors, you Elaena are both. But seeming as you never wish to attend this event, we at the court gave you another reason to come here. Well that''s all see you in the hour, no doubt that you''re walking while reading this. See you soon, your friends at the High Court." The letter read, and more, two pages for the different matters. I sighed and crumpled up the pages and through it away in a near bin. I looked ahead, and from where I stood the castle was half an hour away, if I were to walk. Well if they expect me to be there within the hour I guess I will run. I picked up pace and ran with the wind, and reached the castle in fifteen minutes. At the gate, the guards didn''t stop me, they even tried to start up a conversation, "Hey, Elaena what''s the business today?" Asked the younger of the two guards. I didn''t give a response let alone acknowledge him being there as I walked through the gate. I saw no gain out of talking to most of the people here, and so I usually keep my mouth shut. Not to mention the people here know me well enough that they can just send me a letter, and I''ll go do the contract. Although the letter they sent me was correct, I do need to come to the castle to complete the contract. But I shoved through the castle doors to be greeted by maids, as they directed to my suite in the castle, that I guess they prepared before I arrived. To be honest I was grateful for the room, but the problem was. The entire room was overly decorative and lavish, not to mention the color sceme was not to my taste, and the room it self didn''t give me a sense of security, not at all like my little cottage. None the less I thanked the maids, and entered the room and began my look around. At the end of the entry way was a wooden perch imating a tree, no doubt intended for Sariel. And so I shift my arm moitioning her to go onto the perch, she obeyed and flew over. Once again I wander around, leaving the entry way, there were two other rooms, the bed room and bathing. As soon as when I left the entry room through an arch way sheilded with a curtain on the outside. I entered the bed room and my emotions shone vermillion at the sight, although it seemed one of myspecialfriends at the High Court, had been here. All around the room, in my favorite colors, high hanging ribbons adorned it, them all meeting in the cent, forming a makeshift hammock. It added a nice touch of colors to the plain and distasteful rooms. A faint smile spread across my lips before I realized it. Immeaditly I threw off my shoes and jumped up to the ribbons and plopped myself down in the center, curling up in a ball. Before to llong, about five minutes actually. There was a knock on the wooden door to my rooms, and then the curtain was brushed aside, reaveling a man, as well as my freind from the court, Malakhi Vellsword. As he pushed back the curtain reaveling his beautiful features. His skin was sun kissed, he had a fair build not too muscular. His eyes a peircing sapphire eyes, and a hair of silver. His race would be elf as his drooping ears, were caught with light by the peircing in one. He looks a year or two older than me but none the less he was rather fine. "I see you like the bed, and Sariel likes her perch." He stated as he petted Sariel on the head before walking over to me. I sat up and stuck out my tongue, and laid back. "May I join you?" He asked but didn''t wait for my response as he climbed up. "It''s good to see you, Malakhi." And I gave a soft smile. "From me as well." He replied and we touched our foreheads toghether, me now sitting up cross legged. "Anyway we down to business." He said as we pulled away, and my face went back to neutral. "Elaena, we have a week until the ball. Unfortunately for you Hell awaits..."
