《You're Mecha-ing Me Crazy!》
Chapter 1: The Start
Today was the day the new game [Otomech Full Drive] game came out to virtual reality systems everywhere. The initial launch of the game was a success. Multiple players enjoyed the alpha and beta phase of the game and with all the hot reviews about it so many people were pre-ordering the release in hopes to obtain exclusive bonuses in the game. Of course I was one of those people who preordered the game.
¡°Where are you going in such a hurry Rama?¡±
¡°Where else?¡± I slowly took out the case for [Otomech Full Drive], ¡°Going home to pop in this bad boy.¡± I let out the biggest grin towards my coworker.
¡°No way! You actually were able to get your hands on that? Ahh I¡¯m so jealous, the preorders were limited so I missed out.¡±
¡°Don¡¯t worry friend.¡± I patted him on the back. ¡°I¡¯ll let you know how it is.¡± I stuck out my tongue and gave him the biggest thumbs up.
¡°Whatever Rama, I hope you get screwed over by bad luck.¡±
¡°Don¡¯t be jealous, I¡¯ll let you try it after I get way ahead in the game.¡± I let out a hearty laugh as I packed my bags and headed out. I hurried back to the house and ate my dinner quickly. I hurriedly changed into my sleeping outfit while flinging my clothes everywhere as I did so. I took out the case for the game and popped it into the machine. I took out the Virtual Reality gear. I laid in bed and popped on the helmet.
Those options appeared before my eyes. I hovered over the [YES] option and the game began. My nerves and senses connected with the machine and the game took over. I was sent through a rainbow colored portal made of data and code and the very end of the tunnel was the character selection screen of the game.
¡°Oh man, that shit never gets old.¡± I looked around and checked out my surroundings.
The options for the character selection were quite limited. The default look just pretty much took my real life appearance. I was an average height male with long black hair that reached down to my shoulders and brown eyes. Nothing really stood out about me besides my fancy circular glasses. The only thing you could customize and choose from in the game were the Otomech frames.
¡°Mhmm let¡¯s see what kind of frames you get to start off with.¡± I waved my hand in front of me to begin the selection process. The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
ATTACK FRAME
DEFENSE FRAME |
SUPPORT FRAME |
¡°Only three options to choose from? That¡¯s kind of a bummer.¡± I shook my head in disappointment.
I chose the [Defense Frame]. The frame core wasn¡¯t bulky as I had imagined, but the default armor on the frame though was really clunky looking.
Options appeared before me once again. I pondered a bit on my choice of frame. The reasoning behind going for the defense frame was because since this was a new game I was heading into, I rather be tanky since my gear and skill optimization would be easier to develop and during combat all I would just need to do was be a meat shield and not do anything. I laughed to myself. I pondered enough and accepted into the game.

The screen went dark. Then brightness enveloped the whole environment. Before my eyes was a large grassy plain with the winds breezing through the flowers. The sky was blue as the sea with very few clouds.
¡°Ahh this sensation.¡± I looked at my hands and feet. ¡°Everything seems to be in order.¡± I felt the grass below me and picked a flower and sniffed it. ¡°All my senses seem to be here.¡± I looked forward towards the horizon. ¡°Alright. Let¡¯s do this!¡± I threw my fist in the air in excitement.
¡°Actually...¡± I lowered my fist towards my waist.
¡°Hold on...¡± I looked around my surroundings.
¡°...¡± I hunched over then quickly arched my back and flung my head upwards towards the sky.
¡°WHERE¡¯S MY MECH?¡± I yelled out loud. Disappointed I knelt to the ground with my head hanging low. That was when I got a tap on my shoulder. I looked back to see it was a girl.
¡°Welcome to [Otomech Full Drive] did you read the beginner¡¯s manual?¡± The girl asked me as she looked down on my sad, dejected face.
I shook my head towards her with tears slowly forming in my eyes.
¡°Ahh well let me explain a few things to you...¡±
After a few minutes of her bombarding me with words, I understood what I was supposed to do. Apparently I¡¯m supposed to head down this path until I eventually reach the [Beginner¡¯s Town] where I¡¯ll have to do quests to finally unlock my Otomech.
¡°Man this is such a hassle. But thanks anyways! Can I get your name?¡± I put both my hands on her shoulders and looked into her face.
¡°It¡¯s Camille!¡± She smiled back at me.
¡°Well thanks Camille. I¡¯m glad I met you here, what are the chan-¡± before I could finish the sentence something caught my eye. I slowly panned up above her head to see an [NPC] text floating above it. I let out a disappointing sigh and let her go.
¡°And here I thought you were a goddess sent from real life.¡±
¡°Rude! Even though I¡¯m just an NPC I¡¯m programmed to act as a human as possible. In which case your words hurt mister.¡± She gave me a stern look waving her finger at me.
I was taken aback by her response.
¡°Wow NPCs have really come along way.¡± I thought to myself as I looked at her once again. ¡°Sorry Camille, well thanks anyways. See you soon?¡± I gave her the flower I was still holding onto.
¡°Probably not¡± She smiled as she just promptly rejected me.
Sad and rejected I turned away from Camille and finally began making way towards the [Beginner¡¯s Town].

Chapter 2: Making my way to the Beginners Town
After being rejected by Camille I made my way down this path towards the [Beginner¡¯s Town]. I was excited for the adventures that were in stored for me. There was so much content jam packed into this game that I couldn¡¯t wait to go and explore it all.
As I kept continuing down this path I kept thinking about all the things I was going to do. Beat up monsters, do tons of quests, meet a ton of new friends and possibly get a guild going and make it the best guild in this game.
I clenched my fist in excitement.
¡°AHHHH! I can¡¯t wait to get this going!¡± I shouted as I threw my two fists into the air.
I kept on continuing down this path taking in the scenery around me.
¡°Man they really went all out on these graphics. They¡¯re incredible...¡±
I kept on continuing down this path.
¡°Man even the sky is gorgeous.¡±
I kept on continuing down this path.
¡°The air smells fresh and clean...¡±
I kept on continuing down this path.
¡°I can even hear the birds chirping in the distance.¡±
I kept on continuing down this path.
¡°Wow so many different types of flowers and trees...¡±
I kept on continuing down this path.
I kept on continuing down this path.
I kept on continuing down this path.
I kept on continuing down this path.

I kept on continuing down this path...........................
¡°WHERE IS THE TOWN????¡±
I frantically looked all around me. All I could see was just open space. The path in front of me kept extending as far as my eyes could see. There didn¡¯t seem to be any signs of the town nearby.
¡°How long have I been walking?¡± I thought to myself as I crouched down and placed my hands on my face. ¡°Usually don¡¯t they have the town¡¯s really close to the starting point?¡± I looked up again at the path. ¡°Nonono this can¡¯t be. I must be really close.¡±
I stood up again and stretched my limbs.
¡°Alright time to sprint.¡±
I sprinted down the path for as long and as fast as I could. The scenery around me didn¡¯t seem to change. As I kept going on the scenery finally changed. Woods started appearing before me.
¡°Ahh past these woods must be where the town is.¡± I panted as I kept running.
I ran through the woods and finally saw a clearing. I sprinted as hard as I could and made it through the opening.
¡°I¡¯m finally her-...¡±
¡°...¡± I examined the signed that was in front of me. I walked closer to it, leaned towards the sign and read it carefully. ¡°The Great Plains?¡± I stared off into the distance and saw an even wider and open field.
¡°This...doesn¡¯t look like the [Beginner¡¯s Town].¡± I walked slowly passed the sign and examined my surroundings. As I continued further down I noticed that there were a lot of animals running away. ¡°I wonder what¡¯s over there.¡± My curiosity took over my body and I ran further down the road.
I looked around.
¡°Mhm...there isn¡¯t anything her-¡±
I was interrupted by a loud roar. I turned my head and saw a mammoth of a creature.
¡°Oh. My. God.¡± My legs jellied and I fell down to the ground on my butt. The creature approached me slowly, grunting as it walked towards me.
¡°Lvl 45?¡± I looked at the monster in bewilderment. ¡°Why is such a strong monster so close to the starting AREA???¡± I picked myself up and started to run away from it. Like a chain reaction the mammoth chased after me. I zigzagged through some trees in hope to lose it in the woods, but the mammoth easily crushed through the trees.
¡°AHHH! This is so unfair, I don¡¯t even have me mech yet!¡± I kept dodging the mammoth¡¯s attacks. The trunk of the mammoth kept swinging at me. Each swing barely grazed me.
¡°Shit! If I get hit, I''ll probably lose most of my health!¡± I ducked one of the swings. ¡°I do not want to find out what happens if I die. I mean who dies right away after starting a game?¡± I kept running around in hopes to find some way to combat this beast. Before I realized it, I was cornered.
¡°Come on...is this for real...¡± I sighed. ¡°Might as well just get it over with. No way I can dodge this next attack.¡± I closed my eyes as the mammoth charged at me. ¡°I hope it doesn¡¯t hurt...¡± I braced myself for the impact.
BOOM!
The impact of a blast sent me flying. After rolling on the ground from the impact I opened my eyes and checked myself.
The blinking red bar next to my name indicated I was in critical danger, but my life was spared. My body wasn¡¯t too badly injured and I could still feel my senses.
¡°What just happened...?¡± I looked around trying to find the mammoth. To my shock it was in combat with a mech.
¡°YAHOOO!!!!!¡± The mech flew around the mammoth with ease. The mammoth struggled to catch the mech with it¡¯s trunk. I mean how could it? It can¡¯t even fly. The mech then pulled out the giant bazooka that was on its back.
¡°SAY HELLO TO MY GIGANTIC FRIEND!¡± The mech positioned itself in front of the mammoth and blasted it with its bazooka.
¡°Oh not again...¡± I braced myself for the impact again.
The blast radius was gigantic and blew me away once more. After the dust of impact cleared out all that was left of the mammoth was its tusk.
¡°Ouch.¡± I gathered myself once again and looked at the aftermath. ¡°Is that an item drop?¡±
The mech slowly descended from the skies towards the tusk. It landed and the player unmounted the mech.
¡°Another good haul. This will probably get a good amount in town.¡± The player seemed to have noticed me and looked my way.
¡°Oh hey! Were you fighting this monster? I hope you know since I killed it I get the loot. No hard feelings ¡®kay?¡± The player got down to ground level and grabbed the loot.
¡°Yeah...sure...¡± after closer inspection of the player I noticed it was a girl. She had red hair that flowed down to her waist tied into a ponytail. She was clothed in some tight uniform looking spandex. I got up to my feet and brushed the debris off myself. As I looked up I noticed the girl walking towards me.
Man she looks like she¡¯s going to be a handful...

Chapter 3: Better Late Than Never
¡°Don¡¯t worry you¡¯ll get the next one.¡± She came face to face with me and inspected my clothes. ¡°Wait those are the default clothes...are you dirt poor?¡± She squinted her eyes at me as she stared me down and smirked. ¡°Or...are you new?¡±
¡°...new¡± I mumbled as I stepped back a bit from her. ¡°I was making my way towards the [Beginner¡¯s Town].¡±
¡°[Beginner¡¯s Town]?!¡± She laughed at me. ¡°No way, noooo wayyyy.¡± She patted me on the shoulders. ¡°You¡¯re completely going in the wrong direction newbie.¡± She kept laughing at me.
¡°YEAH, I kinda figured.¡± I crossed my arms. ¡°Where am I anyways?¡±
She wiped the tear from under her eye and looked at me. ¡°Didn¡¯t you see the text appear? You¡¯re at the [The Great Plains].¡±
¡°[The Great Plains]? And what was that monster? It said it was level 45? Isn¡¯t that a really high level considering we¡¯re so close to the starting point?¡± I pointed back at the woods.
¡°Well yeah, this game is open world. There¡¯s no restrictions to where you can or can¡¯t go.¡± She stood with both her hands on her waist. ¡°I¡¯m surprised you wandered off to here. You should¡¯ve received an item at the very start to help navigate these parts...oh well.¡±
¡°Item? Well forget that, more importantly could you help me out?¡±
She looked at me with a blank expression.
¡°Nope.¡±
Next thing I knew she was already back in her Otomech and flew off to who knows where.
Left speechless and with the blankest look on my face, at least I knew now that I should be heading back the other way. I made my way past the woods and up in the clearings again I saw Camille. This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.
¡°CAAAAAMIIIILLEEEEEEEEEE I MISSED YOUUUUUU!¡±
I ran towards Camille with my arms wide open. She looked towards me and promptly dodged my attempt at a hug at her. Having missed, I fell face first into the ground.
¡°Welcome back.¡± Camille smiled at me with her hands clasped together down at her waist.
With a mouth full of dirt I answered back, ¡°...tha.n.ks Ca.m.lle.¡± I got up slowly brushing more dirt off of me. It hasn¡¯t even been a full day, but I¡¯ve somehow managed get myself covered in dirt multiple times. I let out a small sigh. I looked back at Camille.
¡°Hey Camille, shouldn¡¯t you have told me that the way I was going was the wrong way?¡± I brushed off my shoulders as I asked.
She let out a faint giggle.
@_@;
¡°You¡¯re an NPC right? Aren¡¯t you supposed to help the new people out? I could¡¯ve died without even stepping foot in the town!¡±
How bad would it have been to have died without ever stepping foot into town. That¡¯s like dying to a slime on your first encounter.
She looked the other way and smirked.
I grabbed her shoulders and shook her back and forth. She placed her hand on my face and peeled my away from her with a smile still on her face.
¡°Isn¡¯t experiencing failure the best way to learn?¡± she said while wearing the most innocent smile on her face. ¡°Oh...that¡¯s right I forgot to give you this.¡± She waved her hand in front of me.
The message that I had received an item popped up in front of me. I opened my user interface to see that the item was a map of the area. I activated it and a map appeared at the corner of my eye. I saw two dots on the map which represented me and Camille. I also saw that the [Beginner¡¯s Town] which was just ahead of me and that [The Great Plains] was in the opposite direction.
¡°You know...I wish you had given me this sooner Camille...¡± I hung my head down in disappointment.
¡°Well you did skip through my dialogue really fast and missed the fact that I asked you if you wanted the map or not.¡± She shook her head.
¡°Oh...¡± I checked the map again. ¡°Hold on...the town. It says it¡¯s just right up...ahead.¡± He looked at Camille to get a confirmation.
¡°Yeah. I¡¯m surprised you didn¡¯t notice it.¡± She pointed towards the horizon down the path. ¡°You can actually see the outlining of the town right there.¡±
I looked towards where she was pointing and squinted my eyes. ¡°Oh. My. God. You¡¯re right...¡± Out in the distance was a faint shape of a fairly medium-sized town.
I shook my head in disbelief.
How did I even miss this the first time.
¡°Is there anything I should know before I head out Camille?¡±
She stood there and thought about it for a moment with a finger placed on her chin.
¡°Nope, that should be everything. Good luck on your travels!¡± She waved me good-bye.
¡°Don¡¯t worry I¡¯ll be back for you Camille.¡± I said with a grin while giving her two thumbs up.
¡°Please don¡¯t.¡±
Another disappointed look weighed on my face as I headed down the path towards town with my head drooping side to side.

Chapter 4: Started from the Start. Now We Here...at the Start
It was a struggle, but I finally made it. The town¡¯s entrance was right before my eyes. It had a huge gate and the walls surrounding the town was long. It looked like a pretty standard town, nothing too fancy, but had enough going on. I stepped foot into town only to be stopped by the two guards at the entrance.
I looked to the guard on my left.
Then looked to the guard on my right.
¡°Excuse me sir, do you have an entrance pass?¡± Guard Darion turned towards me and asked.
¡°...entrance pass?¡± I looked at him with a dumbfounded face. I waved my hands and checked my inventory if I had anything of that sort listed. Nothing that resembled a pass appeared in my inventory.
¡°Sorry...doesn¡¯t look like I have one.¡± I said while laughing nervously. ¡°I¡¯m just trying to get started in this game...¡±
The guards looked at each other, then Guard Darion looked at me. ¡°Sorry to say this, but you need a pass to enter.¡±
¡°I just started! How am I supposed to have gotten a pass already?¡± I placed my hands on his shoulders as I pleaded with him.
¡°You¡¯re supposed to have gotten it from Camille after completing her [Tutorial Quest].¡± Guard John said as he pulled me away from Guard Darion.
¡°...¡± I once again fell to my knees, this time in shock. I looked back up at the guards with tears in my eyes.
¡°It¡¯s not that big of deal, you can just head back and get the pass.¡± Both of them motioned me away from the gate.
I let out a long sigh with a disgruntled look on my face. I just want to play the game, but all I¡¯ve ended up just doing was pretty much run around in circles. As I reluctantly walked back to the starting point, I saw Camille up ahead.
¡°Camilleeeeeeee¡± I moaned out in disappointment. ¡°Where¡¯s my entrance pass to the town?¡± I pointed back to the town, ¡°the guards said you were supposed to give me one...after completing the [Tutorial Quest]?¡±
Camille lifted up her finger and placed it under her chin as she thought about it. She made a fist and placed it in her other hand as a sign that she had come to a realization.
¡°That¡¯s right...is Guard Darion there right now?¡±
I nodded.
She went into her pocket and took out a piece of paper. She then scribbled some things on the paper and handed it to me.
¡°Wait, this is a physical object. Aren¡¯t you supposed to wave your hand and have the item appear in my inventory?¡±Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
She giggled.
¡°Don¡¯t worry that¡¯ll be fine.¡± She looked at me straight in the eyes while giving a serious smile. ¡°Be. Absolutely sure. To give that, to Guard Darion.¡±
I looked back at the paper then looked at her again. I was a little nervous to how serious her request was.
¡°So I just hand this to Guard Darion and then the quest will be over?¡±
She nodded her head.
¡°...okay¡± A little confused at the simplicity of the request I started my way back to town, but before I left I turned to Camille one last time.
¡°Now is there anything that I need to know before leaving again? I swear I won¡¯t skip your dialogue and I¡¯ll be sure to read everything carefully.¡±
¡°As long as you¡¯ve learned from your mistakes.¡±
I felt like I was just conned by the game in someway, but my excitement to finally start the game after completing this quest overshadowed that.
I finally reached the gates again.
¡°Did you get the entrance pass?¡±
I rummaged through my pockets and took out the paper Camille gave me. I handed it over to Guard Darion.
He inspected the paper.
Guard John then made his way over and looked at the paper too.
¡°Is this...¡± Guard John looked at Guard Darion in surprise. ¡°I didn¡¯t know you two...¡± A smile slowly grew on Guard John¡¯s face while Guard Darion¡¯s face slowly grew red.
I slowly raised my hand in the air. ¡°Umm...does this mean I completed the quest?¡±
Both the guards nodded.
I waited a bit to see if a notification would appear telling me that I¡¯ve completed the quest, but nothing came up. I checked my inventory to see if I missed it, but nothing was there either.
That Camille.....
¡°Uhh...I didn¡¯t receive an entrance pass...¡±
¡°Don¡¯t worry this¡¯ll count as the entrance pass.¡± Guard Darion looked at me. ¡°Thanks again friend.¡±
Guard Darion turned to Guard John to continue on their conversation.
¡°Yeah...I started talking to her just recently.¡± Guard Darion smiled.
¡°You dogggg.¡± Guard John playfully punched Guard Darion in the arm. ¡°When are you going to call her?¡±
¡°Call her?¡± I interjected into their conversation.
Guard John looked at me and gave me a wink.
At this point I was slightly confused.
¡°Can I ask what that paper I gave you was?¡±
Both the guards looked at each other then looked back at me.
¡°Wait you mean, you didn¡¯t notice?¡±
Guard Darion turned the paper around and showed it to me. I stared at it hard. It was just a buncha...numbers...oh. my. god. A blank expression covered my face. My mouth slowly opened.
¡°A-are you saying...I just wingmanned you her number?¡±
Both the guards nodded.
¡°The entrance pass is just her phone number?!¡±
The guards nodded again, then slowly turned their backs towards me.
¡°Hey for some reason, I feel really bad for this guy.¡±
¡°Same, I feel like he¡¯s been through a lot.¡±
They nodded in agreement then turned back around towards me.
¡°Hey man...¡± both the guards reached out towards me, ¡°we¡¯re here for you.¡±
They ended up consoling me. I slowly gathered my composure.
¡°Wait does that mean every player who completes the [Tutorial Quest] is just handing you her number?¡±
The guards shook their heads
¡°Well...to be precise, you didn¡¯t actually do the [Tutorial Quest]...¡± Guard Darion scratched his head and shrugged, ¡°but the reward is a good enough of a replacement for the entrance pass.¡±
¡°...¡±
._.
I wore a wearied face.
Ughhh...I¡¯m over it...
As long as I get into town, it doesn¡¯t really matter.
The guards patted me on the back as I entered the town.
¡°Good luck!¡± both the guards shouted as they waved at me.
A sigh of relief escaped my mouth.
I finally made it into town.
Excited as I was, I couldn¡¯t help but feel as though I took one step forward, but three steps back.

Chapter 5: Do you even Otomech?
Two months have passed since the initial launch of [Otomech Full Drive]. It was at this time the hardcore players were starting to pull away from the rest of the pack. The top rankings were dominated by players from all around the globe.
¡°This just in!¡± A woman flashed onto the screen that hung from a wall, ¡°the 6-man raid consisting of members from the top guilds were able to successfully clear the boss on the [First Moon] after three days. The materials on the [First Moon] are now accessible to the general public to start gathering.¡±
Murmurs and speculation on the event unfolded.
¡°Wow...¡±
¡°I can¡¯t believe they already cleared it.¡±
¡°That was level 60 content...¡±
¡°60?! Isn¡¯t that level cap?¡±
¡°Yep...¡±
Talk about the first clear spread throughout town like wildfire. Their reputation spread to everyone playing the game. As time went on, those six would later end up being known as the Six Gears of Full Drive.
* * *
Two weeks have passed since then.
I watched as the screen kept rerunning their story over and over again. Let me reiterate this fact again, it¡¯s been about two months since the launch of [Otomech Full Drive] and everyone¡¯s been racking up achievements in game...but...but...
¡°Hey, where¡¯s my order?!¡±
¡°Coming!¡± I scurried on over to table four and brought over a tray of food. ¡°Here¡¯s your order, an Otomech burger with some fries. Thank you for your order!¡± I smiled as I headed back to the counter and continued to clean the area.
Hi it¡¯s me Rama. It¡¯s been a good month since I¡¯ve been working at this restaurant in [Beginner¡¯s Town] called the [Fuel Pump]. It¡¯s one of the busiest places in town with rush hour being every hour. There was a reason for me working here...Find this and other great novels on the author''s preferred platform. Let¡¯s rewind to the when I first arrived here in town.
After giving Guard Darion, Camille¡¯s phone number, I was distraught, but not defeated. I used that feeling of despair and channeled it to energy and began starting the quests that were required of me to eventually get my Otomech. After being affected by Camille¡¯s teasi-...teachings, every quest that I did, I carefully read every word and gave the NPCs my full undivided attention.
Not to toot my own horn, but I was good.
Too good in fact.
I completed every question to absolute perfection and more. It got to the point that the NPCs in town would just start giving me random errands to do under the guise of being ¡°[Required]¡±. All these quests did help level me up to [Lvl. 20], but all the skill points I¡¯ve acquired are utterly useless right now since I don¡¯t have a mech. As time went on, I got lost in the abundance of quests and somehow ended up here.
Sigh...
¡°Rama!¡±
I turned around to see one of my coworkers standing right behind me. She was also an NPC of the game. She had short brown hair with jet black eyes. She was tinier than me, but had a big personality to compensate for it.
¡°What is it Sheena?¡±
She placed the dishes on the counter for me to wash.
¡°Did you hear?¡±
I grabbed the dishes and began washing them.
¡°Hear what?¡±
She had a big grin on her face and slowly inched towards me and whispered softly in my ear.
¡°One of the six gears is going to be here in town.¡±
I stopped what I was doing.
¡°You don¡¯t say...¡± I thought about that for a second. ¡°Why would one of them stop by here?¡±
Sheena started putting away all the cleaned dishes.
¡°That¡¯s the thing, no one knows why. There are rumors circulating that there might be an event in the [Beginner¡¯s Town] or something along those lines.¡±
¡°Ohh...¡±
Can¡¯t say I wasn¡¯t intrigued by this information. I get to finally see up close what one of the six is like in person. Maybe I can learn a thing or two from them.
¡°You know Rama, things have really gotten better since you took over as the manager.¡±
A big grin flung across my face as I gave her the thumbs up.
¡°Right?! I always give it my all¡±
Sheena giggled.
¡°By the way Rama, when are you getting your Otomech?¡±
I dropped the dish I was cleaning as a gloomy atmosphere hovered over my head.
Sheena leaned in towards me.
¡°I¡¯m just teasing Rama.¡±
She held a nervous smile and she comforted me.
;(
¡°You¡¯re right though...when am I going to get my Otomech?¡±
She tilted her head and thought about it.
¡°I know! Why don¡¯t you ask the former manager/boss when she comes back?¡±
I had a sudden realization.
¡°That¡¯s right! The boss.¡± I clenched my fist. ¡°That wench...¡±
Sheena had a slight confusion on her face.
I had forgotten that it was because of that wench, that I was stuck here!

Chapter 6: Not even that mad...
The quest log took me to a run down restaurant at the far side of town. The lights for the sign were blinking as if it was on it¡¯s last pair of legs. The sign was barely holding onto its hinges, looking like it was about to fall at any moment''s notice. There didn¡¯t seem to be any life surrounding the place at all.
I checked my quest log again and read its description.
Please head towards the [Fuel Pump] at the far side of town. The manager of the establishment is in dire need of help and requires your immediate attention. For completing the quest you will be awarded with [Gold] and [Exp]
After finishing the [Fuel Pump Quest] you will be award an [Otomech] with your preferred playstyle.
Finally I was at the end of this long quest line chain. The end was near in sight, now all I have to do is just complete this and I¡¯ll get to finally play this game how it was meant to be played.
I walked into the restaurant, the door creaked as I opened it. The place was pretty much empty besides a few patrons sitting around the place.
¡°H-hello? I¡¯m looking for the manager.¡± I said as I walked around the place looking around to see if the manager was around. I asked around the place again to see if anyone would respond.
Nothing.
All I managed to get out of this place was a few murmurs from drunk patrons who were obviously passed out from the drinking they did the night before.
I got up to the counter to see if anyone was behind it. Not a person in sight.
Where the hell is everyone?Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings.
On the counter I noticed a sign that read, ¡°Ring for assistance.¡±
Wow that¡¯s pretty cliche
I rang the bell.
Nothing.
I rang it again.
Nothing.
I rapidly tapped on the bell.
¡°ENOUGHHHH! I hear yah.¡±
A figure staggered through the door behind the counter. She had unruly hair that was curly and flowed down to her shoulders. She had black hair with crimson red eyes. My eyes were immediately drawn to her large chest. Her tight short sleeved shirt wrapped around her curves. Above her head was a text I was familiar with.
By the looks of it I could tell the developers really spent a LOT of time on crafting the perfect figure for her.
¡°Uhh...are you the one I¡¯m supposed to talk to?¡± It was really difficult trying to remain eye contact with her.
¡°I guess so...¡± She yawned as she stared at me up and down. She slowly crawled over the counter and flung her arms around me. ¡°Are you going to help me?¡± She looked me straight in my eyes, her chest pressing up against me.
¡°I...I...yes.¡±
Her eyes twinkled as she smiled. ¡°Fantastic!¡± She got off me and crawled back behind the counter disappearing back into the door. After a few minutes she appeared fully dressed with some luggage in hand.
¡°Thanks for looking over the shop for me, I needed a break¡± She threw me a wink and handed me the keys to the shop and made her way to the exit.
After a few seconds being dumbfounded I made sense of the situation.
¡°W-wait! What do I have to do to complete this quest?¡±
She stopped right before the exit and placed her finger under her chin and thought about it.
¡°Hmmm...¡± She continuously tapped on her chin with her finger.
¡°As long as the restaurant is still running when I come back, we¡¯ll count it as being completed.¡± She smiled and left like the wind.
¡°...¡±
* * *
¡°R...Ra...RAMA!¡±
¡°H-huh??¡± I snapped out of my flashback and noticed Sheena was tugging at my shirt. ¡°What is it Sheena?¡±
She pointed towards the entrance. There was a crowd gathering. From what I can make of it, at the center of the crowd was a guy who had a girl on each arm.
¡°Is that...¡± I squinted at the entrance.
¡°It¡¯s one of the Six Gears Rama!¡± Sheena was excited.
Ohh...even NPCs are excited about this?
The guy and his company made their way to a table. He sat down and kicked both his feet onto the table and leaned back in his chair.
¡°Where¡¯s the service?¡± The guy shouted.
Sheena started to make her way before I stopped her.
¡°Let me handle this.¡± My guy¡¯s intuition aka gut was telling me not to let Sheena close to him. I made my way towards the table.

Chapter 7: Deal or No Deal?!
As I reached the table I noticed the guy had short blonde hair. He wore black shades indoors and had a lip piercing. His outfit was flashy to say the least. He wore a brown and black fur coat with black leather pants and some reptilian skinned boots.
Wow he looks decked out.
¡°Are you the waiter?¡± The guy stared me up and down. ¡°Huh...you¡¯re not an NPC?¡± The group he was with all looked around at each other. After a second, they bursted into laughter.
¡°A player working an NPC¡¯s role?¡±
¡°That¡¯s rich.¡±
¡°Aww poor kid.¡±
¡°How sad.¡±
¡°That¡¯s pathetic.¡± The guy looked like he really felt sorry for my situation.
¡°Awwww¡± The girls on his arm squealed as the clung close to him.
Wait is my situation really that bad?
¡°Whatever, just get me everything on the menu, we¡¯re going big today.¡± The guy motioned me away as the crowd he was with shouted in excitement.
Sigh.
I went to the back and got everything from the menu.
¡°Why so serious Rama? Don¡¯t tell me that flamboyant looking fella over there has got you feeling down because of your current situation? Oh my oh my, don¡¯t fret it, you¡¯ll get there eventually, to be honest it¡¯s not that bad working an NPC¡¯s job ya¡¯ know.¡±
I pinched Sheena¡¯s cheek as she was talking.
¡°No no no no, I¡¯ll become the number one player, don¡¯t you worry, once the real manager gets back here I¡¯ll be off on my way. An NPC¡¯s job is nice, but it doesn¡¯t hold a candle to being an actual player.¡±
¡°No no no no, an NPC¡¯s job is far more prestigious and more important than a player¡¯s job. Without us you players would be lost in the game dying left and right. Isn¡¯t that what happened when Camille didn¡¯t show you the way?¡±
¡°W-what, h-how do you know about that?¡±
¡°C¡¯mon all the NPCs in town know. We know everything that happens between all of us.¡±
¡°HEY!¡±This novel is published on a different platform. Support the original author by finding the official source.
The flamboyant guy walked up to the counter.
¡°What¡¯s the hold up? Do you know who I am? I am THE Jack Wilder of the Six Gears. The man who they say has seduced Lady Luck. The one who¡¯s been blessed by RNG. The man they call the CRIT KING.¡±
¡°He talks alot doesn¡¯t he.¡±
¡°Yeah...¡±
¡°What did you two say?¡±
I could see his face pale as a ghost. It¡¯s as if he¡¯s never been told this before.
¡°You sure know how to make a snarky comment, do you even have the skills to back up your words? What¡¯s your Otomech status? Any achievements?¡±
I nervously laughed as I looked away.
¡°I, uhh, chose the [Defense Frame]...as for the other things...¡±
Sheena snickered and was clearly laughing at me.
¡°Heheheheh. He doesn¡¯t even have an Otomech yet.¡±
¡°WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?¡±
Sheena looked away smiling.
¡°Hohhhh, is that so.¡± Jack said under his breath.
Both Sheena and I looked at him. He had quite the sinister face going on.
¡°Let¡¯s make a deal.¡±
The crowd behind him started cheering.
¡°HERE IT IS!¡±
¡°Jack¡¯s signature catch phrase.¡±
¡°Kyyahhh~!¡±
Sheena and I looked at each other in bewilderment.
¡°Uhh, I actually don¡¯t want to make a dea-¡±
¡°Shh, shh, shh¡± He placed his finger on my lips. ¡°Hush my child, you will accept this deal because you have nothing to really lose. So here¡¯s the thing, you must already have heard, but there¡¯s to be a surprise event in this town soon.¡±
¡°But that¡¯s just a rumor!¡± Sheena cut in. ¡°None of the NPCs have heard anything about it.¡±
Jack waved his finger back and forth.
¡°They don¡¯t call me Jack ¡®Mr. 50/50 no scratch that, Mr. 100¡¯ Wilder for nothing. My hunches have always been correct since the start of the game. Either way back to my bet. This will benefit both of us. If my hunch is correct this event is going to have us take down an [Event Boss]. If you don¡¯t know this the Six Gears are highly competitive, not even I have disclosed this information to them yet. I¡¯ll be the only one to slay this and get all the credit!¡±
I raised my hand slowly.
¡°SooooooOoOOoooOoo what do you want me to do? Like you heard before I don¡¯t have an Otomech.¡±
Jack had a grin on his face.
¡°Don¡¯t worry I have that covered. You said you chose the [Defense Frame] huh? That means you know how to draw aggro right?¡±
¡°I mean I guess...¡±
¡°Well, for this deal, you¡¯re going to be my bait.¡±
¡°...¡±
¡°All you have to do is keep the [Event Boss] distracted, easy right?¡±
¡°What do I get out of this?¡±
¡°Fame?¡±
¡°No, not doing it then.¡±
¡°W-what...uh equipment for your Otomech?¡±
¡°Don¡¯t even have an Otomech, not doing it.¡±
¡°Money?¡±
¡°No.¡±
¡°Mhmm, how bout I¡¯ll owe you a favor.¡±
¡°Oh, now we¡¯re talking, a favor from one of the Six Gears? It¡¯s a deal.¡±
Jack and I shook hands.
¡°Remember, this deal will only go through when do you properly do you job and I successfully take it down.¡±
¡°Sounds good.¡±
Jack smiled and went back to his table. I could hear the cheers of the crowd getting loud as he made his way back.
¡°Are you sure about this Rama. You¡¯re definitely going to make a fool outta yourself out there.¡±
¡°What do you mean Sheena? I¡¯m good at doing the little jobs, this¡¯ll be a piece of cake.¡±
The [Event Boss: Verodith] will appear in front of the [Beginner¡¯s Town] in 10 minutes. Prepare yourself and get ready to take down the boss!
Every player received the notification, the event was about to begin. My first real gameplay and I don¡¯t even have an Otomech yet...

Chapter 8: She Caught Me on the Turret. It Wasnt Me.
¡°So Rama...what¡¯s your gameplan here?¡±
¡°I¡¯ll make it up as I go along.¡±
¡°Okay...I understand, but Jack really gave you the short end of the stick here. I mean, how are you possibly going to aggro the monster and keep it distracted in this.¡±
¡°...like I said...I got this, I¡¯m really good at improvising.¡±
¡°Uh huh...alright...but more importantly why am I here with you?¡±
Sheena and I were in the open fields in front of the town waiting for the [Sudden Mission] to start. Without an Otomech, Jack gave me a Light Armored Vehicle to drive instead. Attached to the vehicle was a turret stationed on top.
¡°Well I can¡¯t drive and shoot this thing at the same time. So you¡¯ll do the driving while I¡¯ll do the shooting.¡±
¡°Ehh...¡±
She rested her head on the steering wheel as she pouted with a dejected look on her face. Normally I would be driving, but I couldn¡¯t pass up this chance to finally fight a monster. I went up to the top where the turret was and got myself situated.
In the distance I can see Jack waving at me in his Otomech. His Otomech as just as flashy as he was. It had a lot of bright colors, but the main thing that stood out was his weapon. It was a black and gold sniper. Must be an [Attack Frame].
As I watched him wave, a notification popped up on my user interface.
Jack Wilder sent a friend request
I accepted his request. The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Another notification popped up on my screen.
Jack Wilder would like to invite you to the voice comms
I accepted again.
¡°..ello...hello?¡±
¡°Yeah, I can hear you.¡±
¡°Good! You remember the deal right?¡±
¡°Yeah, I distract it and you take it out.¡±
¡°Perfect.¡±
¡°By the way, why aren¡¯t there more people joining in with you?¡±
¡°Are you stupid or something. I need to be the only one to take this out, I can¡¯t have people helping me out, I¡¯d lose my reputation.¡±
¡°...but I¡¯m helping you out.¡±
¡°Yeah, but you don¡¯t count, you¡¯re technically not even a real player without an Otomech.¡±
¡°...¡±
¡°Don¡¯t feel down, like I said I¡¯ll owe you a favor in the future.¡±
¡°Yeah, but aren¡¯t you worried other players will come and kill steal you?¡±
¡°Don¡¯t worry, this is the [Beginner¡¯s Town] all the players who can damage it are off further away in higher level places, by the time they get here I¡¯d have already taken the monster down. All part of my plan.¡±
Well he wasn¡¯t wrong there, the only players capable of seemingly fighting this boss would be higher level players, but the only players in town are just novices who can¡¯t even control their Otomechs properly yet.
¡°Rama..Rama...¡±
I felt Sheena tug on my sleeves as I was deep in my own thoughts.
¡°What do you want Shee-¡±
In the far distance I saw what Sheena was looking at. The sky turned dark and clouds swirled towards the center the sky. A storm was a approaching. The countdown finally reached zero. The [Event Boss] slowly descended from the sky. It was a gigantic black dragon with purple linings on its back. It¡¯s tail swung back and forth in a metronome fashion. It¡¯s wings flapped slow but powerful. I can feel the winds come rushing towards me every time it flapped its wings.
Event Boss: Verodith the Obsidian Dragon Lvl. 57
¡°...¡±
Jack¡¯s voice came over the comms.
¡°You ready?¡±
¡°...¡±
¡°I didn¡¯t catch that Rama. Are you ready? Hello? Rama? Raaamaaaaa....hello Rama? Rama? Hey, Rama, Hello, Rama??? ...rama...ra...ma...ma...¡±
I slowly tuned Jack¡¯s voice out as I stared at the boss ahead of me. I played multiple scenarios in my head on how I would distract and kite this monster, but all of them ended up having me dead.
¡°Hey Sheena...how good is your driving?¡±
¡°...first time driving.¡±
¡°I guess I should drive then-¡±
I heard a series of loud shots go off. I turned my head towards the dragon and saw that it was locked on us.
¡°...did you just...¡±
I stared down at my hands to see that I had pushed down the buttons to shoot the turret. I slowly turned my gaze towards Sheena.
¡°S-start the enGINE AND PUT THAT PEDAL TO THE METAL!¡±

Chapter 9: Slow & Furious
Sheena was left fiddling with the keys in the ignition. Verodith was heading this way. Each time it flapped its wings the vehicle slightly lifted off the ground. The winds the wings created had a strong enough force behind it to blow you away if you weren¡¯t prepared. I braced myself each time it flapped its wings, fearing I¡¯d fall off the vehicle if I weren¡¯t careful.
¡°Hurry Sheena!¡±
¡°I¡¯m going as fast as I can!¡±
The engine finally turned on. Verodith swooped down towards up, but Sheena was able to press down on the gas pedal fast enough to avoid Verodith¡¯s attack.
¡°Holy shit...I did it Rama hahaha¡±
¡°Don¡¯t take it easy now Sheena! It¡¯s right on our tail!¡±
Verodith quickly turned it¡¯s big body around and chased us.
¡°..ama...Rama! Good stuff! You should¡¯ve let me know if you were going to aggro it! I would¡¯ve prepared myself. Now it¡¯s going to take me awhile to prepare, so keep it occu-¡±
¡°THAT WAS NOT ON PURPOSE! You think I¡¯d be crazy enough to aggro it without an actual game plan???¡±
¡°Oh...well it¡¯s too late for redos kekeke.¡±
¡°UGH Just finishing prepping what you need to do Jack, I¡¯ll figure something out down her-¡±
Verodith swooped its body over us. The size of it was breathtaking. It almost looked like it was just toying with us.
¡°Turn quickly Sheena! It¡¯s going to turn and face us after it flies over us.¡±
¡°Ahhh! You¡¯re making so many unreasonable requests right now!¡±
¡°What do you meeEAANNN!!!! AHH!!-ATLEAST TELL ME WHEN YOU¡¯RE GONNA TURN, I ALMOST FELL OFF!¡±
¡°WHAT DO YOU MEAN? YOU JUST TOLD ME TO AND WOULD YOU STOP YELLING! ISN¡¯T THERE LIKE A SEATBELT OR SOMETHING UP THERE?¡±The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
I looked around to see if there was anything that can fasten me in place, sadly there wasn¡¯t. A grim look befell my face.
¡°N-nothing...¡±
¡°Well what¡¯s your gameplan Rama, just keep running away?¡±
I studied Verodith¡¯s movements closely. It didn¡¯t look like there was a set pattern on it¡¯s flight path. It looked like it was a boss capable of its own movements and wasn¡¯t precoded by the developers. I wouldn¡¯t mind running around, but the only problem right now is predicting it¡¯s attack. With no information about the boss, it¡¯s dangerous to try anything risky.
¡°Alright, I got it Sheena. We¡¯ll do a hit and run tactic.¡±
¡°What do you mean?¡±
¡°Usually with monsters like these, they have really powerful attacks, but as long as you stay out of their line of sight their attacks won¡¯t hit you.¡±
¡°I get that...but if you stay out of their line of sight, wouldn¡¯t that defeat the purpose of aggroing it?¡±
¡°That¡¯s where this turret comes in. Once Verodith drops its aggro on us, I¡¯ll shoot it and re aggro it again. A simple hit and run tactic.¡±
¡°...are you sure that¡¯s going to work Rama?¡±
¡°Nope, but I don¡¯t have any better plans at this moment.¡±
Sheena and I turned the vehicle around and drove towards Verodith. As soon as Verodith had its eyes on us, we drove in a different direction. Everytime I turned back to check on Verodith¡¯s status, its eyes were barely locked onto us. So far so good, but as we kept this up, I had a very bad feeling.
¡°Hey things are looking good Rama!¡±
¡°...but I haven¡¯t even gotten to shoot it yet...¡±
¡°Don¡¯t complain, let¡¯s just keep this going.¡±
¡°Aww...¡±
I hung my head down in despair as we kept driving around in circles.
¡°Let¡¯s switch Sheena!¡±
¡°HUH?¡±
I got down from the turret.
¡°Come on, come on, let me drive please!¡±
¡°Didn¡¯t you want to use the turret instead? Ahh- is it because you¡¯re bored up there that you want to switch?¡±
I twiddled my thumbs and nervously looked the other way.
¡°Ugh, alright hold the wheel as I get up.¡±
¡°Yay! Thanks Sheena!¡±
¡°Ahh! Enough get off me!¡±
She awkwardly made her way off the driver''s seat while she was peeling me off of her. We tried to make the switch as smooth as possible, but trying to keep a foot on the pedal made it extremely awkward to maneuver this transition.
¡°Happy now?¡±
¡°Yes! Thanks!¡±
Sheena got to the turret as I kept the vehicle moving.
¡°Just let me know if it does anything weir-¡±
I heard a loud screech.
¡°What was that Sheena?¡±
I tried to look at Verodith, but I my view was obstructed.
I heard another screech. This time it was louder.
¡°Owww...¡±
¡°Ahh-! My ears!¡±
¡°What¡¯s going on Sheena? Can I get an update? Sheenaaaa-ow oww oWW OWWW OWWW!¡±
Sheena kept kicking me in the back of my head.
¡°Wha-ow is-ow happen-OWWW STOP KICKING ME!¡±
I wanted to see the commotion for myself so I turned the vehicle around to face Verodith.
From the clouds I saw that five other dragons had descended from the sky.
The bad feeling I had, just manifested right in front of me.
¡°Oh. Shit.¡±

Dragon Minion D Lvl. 45
Dragon Minion E Lvl. 45
¡°Alright...as long as we stay cal-¡±
Multiple shots started ringing from the vehicle. The five dragons were aggro¡¯d and immediately started flying towards us.
¡°HUH, what are you DOING SHEENA?¡±
¡°Ehehe, I couldn¡¯t help it, it¡¯s not everyday an NPC gets to shoot a turret like this.¡±
I pressed on the gas pedal and made a beeline towards them.
¡°W-what are you doing Rama? I¡¯m sorry! There¡¯s no need to rush towards our death!¡±
¡°Idiot, that¡¯s not the case, now that all five are aggro¡¯d on us, running away is now the worst thing we can possibly do.¡±
¡°What why!¡±
¡°Too many uncertain variables and monsters like these can easily corner us. Don¡¯t worry I¡¯m driving now, so there¡¯s nothing to be afraid of, just get ready to shoot when I tell you to.¡±
¡°Wow, I didn¡¯t know you could sound so very dependable Rama.¡±
¡°...thanks.¡±
I drove towards the dragons. Two of them opened their mouths and shot a dark ball of energy at us. I managed to barely dodge both of the blast, but it was too close for comfort.
¡°Alright Sheena, once I get under get ready to shoot A, C and E.¡±
In a few seconds I would be underneath three of them.
¡°3...2...1!¡±
The turret began pumping out tons of bullet shells. Sheena was able to land almost all the shots onto the dragons causing them to get enraged.
¡°Rama I did it! How was that?¡±
This novel''s true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
¡°Actually good which is quite surprising...¡±
¡°Hey Rama they don¡¯t look too happy...Oi Rama what are we gonna do? What are we gonna do??¡±
Sheena started stomping on the back of my bad.
¡°OW. Don¡¯t worry I got this.¡±
I swatted her foot out of the way. I started driving the vehicle further into the chaos and positioned the vehicle in the middle of all the dragons. I stopped the vehicle.
¡°Rama...I don¡¯t like where you¡¯re going with this...¡±
¡°Let¡¯s hope I¡¯m not wrong...¡±
The three dragons, after getting aggro¡¯d, started to swoop down on us.
¡°BRACE YOURSELF!¡±
The dragons closed in on us, but suddenly hit with a loud explosion and stopped. Their flights staggered. The vehicle we were in got blown back a bit, but was able to keep upright.
¡°Ahhhh-! What was that?¡±
Sheena looked up and noticed that the other dragons B and D had their mouths wide open.
¡°What? Did they just shoot at each other? Why would they help us?¡±
¡°Not quite...they were actually aiming for us. However, because of the attack patterns of the dragons I thought I¡¯d give it a shot and see if this worked.¡±
¡°Huh what attack patterns?¡±
¡°Well from what I could tell, if you aggro the dragon it¡¯ll immediately swoop towards you. However, if you don¡¯t and wait them out then they¡¯ll start shooting energy blasts at you.¡±
¡°Wow I¡¯m surprise you managed to figure that out!¡±
¡°Heh...yeah it was just a hunch...¡±
¡°...¡±
¡°...¡±
¡°Just a hunch? You know you have bad luck right...¡±
¡°Yeah don¡¯t remind me...I seriously thought we were going to die there...anyways...now just finish them off Sheena.¡±
Sheena shot at the weakened dragons and was able to kill them with the turret.
¡°We did it!¡±
I was surprised that the turret actually killed it. How much damage does those energy blasts even do? Oh god, if we get hit we¡¯ll definitely be dead in one shot.
¡°No time to relax Sheena. This strategy won¡¯t work twice. Time to retreat!¡±
I pulled back and started driving in the opposite direction. The two dragons were on our tails.
¡°Sheena shoot the one directly behind us.¡±
¡°Got it!¡±
The dragon was enraged and started the usual pattern of swooping down. I quickly turned the vehicle and was able to dodge its assault on us. As the dragon missed and was reorganizing itself for another swoop, I drove the vehicle towards the other dragon chasing us.
¡°Shoot the dragon in front of us now!¡±
¡°Ahh-! Okay!¡±
The both dragons were now both enraged. The dragon in front of us begin to swoop towards us. The dragon behind us started swooping again towards us. As the dragon in front of us started getting close I sped up the vehicle at the last minute and was able to drive under it causing both dragons to charge into each other and caused them to stagger.
¡°Wooooo! I can¡¯t believe that actually worked. From their health bars it looks like we have to do that a couple more times.¡±
¡°I don¡¯t think my heart can take this anymore Rama.¡±
I was able to repeat the situation two more times before Sheena was able to successfully kill them off with the turrets.
¡°Nice going Rama!¡±
¡°Thanks Sheena, you too! Nice shots!¡±
As we were both celebrating we heard an ominous screech. As we both looked towards the sky multiple dragons starting descending from the sky.
¡°...Rama...¡±
¡°Oh...come on...¡±
Verodith still has its eyes on us the whole time, this time the dragons it summoned starting flying towards us without being aggro¡¯d on. I turned the vehicle around and started driving away as fast as possible. The dragons came down fast, they were much faster than the others before them. They swooped down on us.
¡°RAMA!!!!¡±
¡°OH SHIT OH SHIT!¡±
As I braced myself for the impact I heard loud shots exploding on the dragons.
¡°Kyaa-! What was that? Did they shoot each other again?¡±
¡°No that can¡¯t be the case...¡±
¡°Mr. RNG-sus has finally arrived kekeke¡±
I didn¡¯t want to admit it, but this time I was relieved when I heard Jack¡¯s voice come over on the voice comms.
END
Chapter 11: A World Event Unfolds
As more and more dragons descended from the sky, there was little I could do anymore. The tactics I used in the previous battles were obsolete in the face of all these dragons.
¡°Pull back Rama, I miscalculated this event. I didn¡¯t think this would be a [World Event]. I thought this was just an [Event Boss]¡±
An [Event Boss] was a special monster that dropped a special loot box that has the chance of giving the player unique items and gears.
However, a [World Event] was an event that included an [Event Boss], that required massive amounts of players to work together and beat it. The minimum amount of players required to complete the [World Event] in a timely manner was 200 plus players.
Unlike a normal boss battle in a dungeon, a [World Event] was timed. The rewards for the event were rare item drops that were given to all the members who did damage to the [Event Boss]. However, whoever killed the boss would get a legendary one of a kind item.
The time limit for this [World Event] was one hour.
I drove the vehicle away from the heat of the battle.
¡°Man, we are clearly outclassed here Rama.¡±
¡°...yeah.¡±
As I was driving away, the dragons kept chasing us, there was no chance to rest. Sheena did her best to shoot at them, but the turret¡¯s damage was laughable, like a fish trying to slap a bear. Jack provided us with backup cover. His shots were able to one shot the dragon minions.
¡°How...is that possible.¡±
Each player received 5 skills points every time they leveled up. Since the level cap of the game was 60, the total amount of skill points one can receive was 300 points. However, this game had a deep level of customization with over hundreds of skills to choose from. One skill needed 30 points to be maxed out.
A high level player would of course have a higher damage range and more skills, but to one shot these monsters was something out of this world.
¡°Are you curious Rama? Let me enlighten you on my greatness and why I am one of the Six Gears. First off, I maxed out the skills ¡®Eagle Eye¡¯, ¡®Sniper Mastery¡¯, ¡®Expose Weakness¡¯, ¡®Piercing Bullet¡¯, and ¡®Bull¡¯s Eye¡¯ which unlocked the [Unique Skill] ¡®Deadshot¡¯¡±This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

Unlike most RPGs that had a linear skill tree where the best skills had to be earned after putting points into the prerequisite skills, [Otomech Full Drive] let anyone choose which skill they wanted right off the bat, so the best skills were available at the very beginning.
What made this system so special was its [Unique Skill]. A [Unique Skill] could only be unlocked when the required skills were maxed out in the normal skill tree, almost like a recipe. These skills needed only 10 skills point to be maxed out.
¡°But the most important item I have is my weapon the [Phoenix¡¯s Beak].¡±
He sent his item¡¯s info over onto my interface.
In [Otomech Full Drive], item rarity was divided into five different color text for its name. The normal items had white colored text, above average items had green text, rare items had blue text, unique items had purple text and legendary grade items had dark orange text.
Jack¡¯s weapon had dark crimson red text.
Dark crimson red text items can only be obtained after crafting and improving a legendary grade item. Crafted items were the best end game gear anyone could get their hands on, but required an insane amount of rare materials.
The [Phoenix Beak] had a special attribute attached to it, which set all sniper skills to only a .25 second cooldown, which was essentially 0 seconds.
¡°Holy shit...¡± I couldn¡¯t help but just be in awe.
¡°Exactly and as the Crit King of this game, the 25% chance is essentially 100% chance for me.¡±
Jack was killing these monsters in seconds. It almost seemed like what we did was not even worth it.
¡°If you were this strong couldn¡¯t you have done this yourself?¡±
¡°Technically yes, but my setup has a fatal flaw.¡±
¡°Which is?¡±
¡°You think I¡¯d tell you so easily?¡±
As we reached safety, the amount of dragons being summoned was insane. The sky was flooded with dragons and not a single piece of the sky could be seen. It was clear that Jack was being overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of the monsters, but his quick rapid fire shots kept them at bay from advancing any further.
Twenty minutes have passed since the event started.
Jack was slowly losing the battle of attrition as his shots couldn¡¯t keep up with the amount of waves that were forming. But as things seemed dire multiple explosions rang throughout the sky.
¡°Man...I couldn¡¯t finish this in time...¡±
As I looked towards the sky I could see three other Otomechs appear. Each bringing a group of 50 Otomechs with them.
¡°You¡¯re alone? No wonder you got here so fast.¡±
¡°Haha you¡¯re way too greedy Jack.¡±
¡°Looks like your plan backfired Mr. Wilder. Now let the real players show you how it¡¯s done.¡±

Chapter 12: I.O.U.
Three of the Otomechs stayed behind while the other 150 Otomechs went to battle to keep the dragons at bay.
¡°Guess your instincts were a bit off this time huh Jack?¡±
I wasn¡¯t sure if Jack left his voice comm on unintentionally or not, but I was able to closely listen in on their conversation.
One of the Otomechs descended down towards Jack. The Otomech was a medium sized frame. The only thing that stood out with this frame was its weapon which was a fan.
¡°Though this was all apart of my calculations anyways.¡±
¡°Tch, you can¡¯t be serious Lian.¡±
¡°Oh, I am damn well serious Jack.¡±
¡°What¡¯s happening Rama?¡±
Sheena and I were still in the vehicle at a safe area.
¡°I can¡¯t tell, it sounds like they¡¯re arguing or something. Whatever it is, it looks like Jack¡¯s getting screwed.
¡°Well, what are you waiting for, get closer to them.¡±
¡°What? Why, we¡¯d be in danger.¡±
¡°No we won¡¯t, we¡¯ll be with those players. They look really strong, so I doubt we¡¯d be in trouble.¡±
¡°I mean I guess you¡¯re right...wait why are you intent on going there?¡±
I saw Sheena kept staring at a certain Otomech.
¡°You can¡¯t mean...¡±
She slightly blushed.
¡°Alright alright, as a reward, I guess we can go there.¡±
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
I started the vehicle and made my way towards them. When I finally reached the top of the cliff they were situated at I saw all four of them dismounted from their Otomechs, arguing with each other on the ground.
As we slowly pulled up, one of the players shouted.
¡°Is that...newbie?!¡±
¡°Uhhh...¡±
I was shocked at the sudden shout, but that red pony tail was something I remembered seeing. As I looked towards the other Otomechs I saw that one of them had a Bazooka.
¡°OH! It¡¯s you!¡±
Jack and others were surprised. The girl walked towards me and Sheena.
¡°I see you...got an upgrade...¡±
I could see her voice trail off as she saw the vehicle.
¡°This...is Jack¡¯s right?¡±
I nodded.
¡°Don¡¯t you have a real mech?¡±
I shook my head.
I could see her face holding back the laughter.
¡°Yeah, he¡¯s level 20 and still doesn¡¯t have a mech, isn¡¯t that really sad?¡±
Sheena slid in her comment.
¡°Hey Scarlett how do you know him?¡±
I heard Jack shout from the distance. Scarlett turned back towards Jack.
¡°I met him at [The Great Plains] early on. I¡¯m surprised you gave him this to drive.¡±
¡°It was the least I could do, he was helping me after all.¡±
¡°Uhh.¡± I slowly chimed in. ¡°What is this vehicle. I didn¡¯t know this game had this to operate, I thought all you could operate was just mechs.¡±
Scarlett nodded.
¡°Same, I thought so too, but that was something we actually found on the [First Moon]. We didn¡¯t know what it was so we all just called it a ¡®I.O.U.¡¯ or ¡®Identity Otomech Unknown¡¯. ¡°
¡°Wait this is a considered an Otomech?¡± I questioned.
¡°It has to be, only Otomechs can be operated in this game.¡± Scarlett said hesitantly.
¡°Isn¡¯t this something you should hold on to?¡± I continued questioning.
¡°Well to be honest, every one of the Six Gears had no use for it because our mechs are so much better than that, so we all agreed to just give it to Jack, the weakest person from the Six Gears.¡± Scarlett said it loud enough for Jack to hear.
¡°How dare you call the Crit King the weakest li-¡±
¡°Either way, to see it operate in an actual battlefield, how was it?¡±
Jack was fuming from being cut off.
¡°Uhh...underwhelming to say the least. The steering was pretty bad, wasn¡¯t that fast and the turret did no damage to the dragons.¡±
¡°Mhmm, well feel free to have that.¡± Scarlett said.
¡°What! What gives you the authority to give away my stuff?¡± Jack yelled.
¡°Why are you mad, you don¡¯t even need it.¡±
¡°Yeah but-¡±
¡°It¡¯s settled just give it to him after this.¡±
¡°Fine.¡± Jack groaned.
¡°Are you four all in the same guild or something?¡± I added.
Scarlett laughed.
¡°No no no, only me, Lian, and Odin are. Jack¡¯s in a different guild.¡±
¡°Lian and Odin?¡±
¡°Yep, those two that are situated over there with Jack. They¡¯re also apart of the Six Gears.¡±
¡°Wait so the Six Gears aren¡¯t all in the same guild?¡±
¡°Nope. We¡¯re only called the Six Gears because our classes synergized well together, so we were able to clear the [First Moon] efficiently. In reality there are other monsters besides us.¡±
Lian and Odin motioned Scarlett to come over.
¡°Well looks like our chat here is over, got to get back to beating this. Take care newbie.¡±

Chapter 13: Oh.
¡°Hold on, just for future reference. Which Otomech is Lian¡¯s? And which is Odin¡¯s?¡±
¡°The Otomech with the fan as a weapon is Lian¡¯s and the other is Odin¡¯s.¡±
¡°Alright.¡±
¡°WAIT!¡±
Sheena jumped down from the turret. She ran up to Scarlett.
¡°Can I get your autograph?¡±
¡°Y-yeah sure...¡±
Sheena was obviously fangirling over Scarlett. After signing Sheena¡¯s thing, Scarlett waved and headed off.
¡°I didn¡¯t know you were a Scarlett fan.¡±
¡°Of course! Who isn¡¯t? She¡¯s pretty much a rockstar.¡±
I shook my head in disbelief.
I saw the other players get into their Otomechs. The one that really got my attention was the last Otomech standing near the edge. It dual wielded two massive glaives. That one must be Odin¡¯s. Scarlett and Odin went into battle. Jack and Lian stayed behind. Lian flew straight up into the air. It seemed like he was commanding the other 150 Otomechs that were in battle.
Scarlett and Odin were impressive. Scarlett shot massive cannon balls that crushed any dragon that was in its way. What was impressive was how mobile she was with such a huge weapon. She danced around in the air elegantly like it was a ballet recital. What seemed like an endless amount of dragons, were being mowed down by Scarlett single handedly.
Odin, on the other hand, was heading straight for Verodith. With Odin¡¯s first strike, I could see Verodith¡¯s health bar go down one percent. Verodith also sustained a bleed effect which caused it to continuously lose health over time. Verodith started attacking Odin, but was stunned momentarily by Jack¡¯s shot. Jack was able to land two shots directly into both Verodith¡¯s eyes. If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
Odin and Jack continued attacking together in perfect harmony.
Everytime Odin damaged Verodith and it began retaliating, Jack was there to blind and stun it. The synergy that these two had were incredible. Even though Odin and Verodith were constantly moving around, Jack was able to successfully land all his shots without even hitting Odin.
¡°This level of play is insane.¡±
On the other front, I saw the other Otomechs taking out the dragons with ease under the command of Lian. It almost looked like a shepherd herding sheep.
As the Otomechs kept taking out the dragons, I saw that every time a dragon was killed it was dropping items.
¡°AHA, it¡¯s time to go treasure hunting!¡±
¡°Huh? W-WAHH!¡±
I turned on the vehicle and stormed into the battlefield again.
As the battle was getting heated in the air, I was doing my own battles down below. I scavenged the ground to see if there were any good drops. I collected the dragon scales, claws, fangs and wings.
¡°Maybe these will sell for a lot.¡±
Sheena overheard me.
¡°Didn¡¯t you say, you weren¡¯t in this for the money?¡±
¡°After seeing what I¡¯m up against, I need to save up as much as possible now so that I can compete with them.¡±
¡°Hohhh...dreams are a wonderful thing.¡±
¡°Yeah...wait was that an insult?¡±
¡°Rama! Look something is shining over there.¡±
I drove over and saw that it was a dragon¡¯s eye.
¡°Nice going. Pick some up too Sheena, we¡¯ll split the profits.¡±
Her eyes sparkled. We started collecting the drops pretty efficiently. As we looted, the sky started to clear up from the death of all those dragons.
Forty-five minutes have passed since the start of the event.
All that was left with Verodith.
The rest of the Otomechs stood and watched Odin attack Verodith this was because the player to land the last hit gets the kill credit and the legendary one of a kind drop. Even Jack was being stopped by Lian.
Verodith¡¯s health bar finally reached ¡®critical health¡¯. When bosses in the game reached ¡®critical health¡¯, they become much harder to kill because they get an increase in stats and gain new skills.
It didn¡¯t seem like Odin wasn¡¯t phased by Verodith¡¯s changes. He kept attacking calmly, even increasing his attack swing speeds, hitting all the of Verodith¡¯s weak points while hiding in its blindspots.
¡°AHHH, I want to get in this action. I want to shoot!¡±
I climbed onto the turret.
¡°Sheena let me take a shot.¡±
¡°What, why?¡±
¡°Come on just let me, I didn¡¯t get a chance to.¡±
¡°But isn¡¯t it dangerous to shoot it now? What if you hit Odin or something.¡±
¡°One shot won¡¯t hurt. It¡¯s not like this turret does any damage.¡±
¡°Okay okay, just let me move.¡±
¡°Hey thanks, yeah, just move over there, watch your step.¡±
¡°Hey watch it!¡±
¡°Ah don¡¯t push!¡±
A familiar sensation ran through my body.
The World Event has been cleared in 48 minutes and 17 seconds
Verodith has been slain by Rama

Chapter 14: ( ^ :
¡°Oh shit.¡±
I stared blankly at Sheena and she stared blankly back at me.
¡°Rama-! What just happened, tell me what just happened. What did you just do?¡±
She shook me violently. I had a pale expression on my face. I could see my spirit leaving my body. I was in the limbo of fear and joy. Of course a kill like this would mean my notoriety would go up and I would get a great item, but it was at the cost turning one of the top guilds against me.
¡°Oh no...Rama...Rama...¡±
She looked up into the sky. I looked up with her and saw the army of Otomechs slowly descend down to our location. They surrounded us.
Jack landed down first, then came Scarlett, Lian and then finally Odin. All of them dismounted their mechs.
There was a long silence.
The tension in the air was heavy.
¡°Idiot.¡± Scarlett sighed.
The rest of the Otomechs surrounding us started booing.
¡°PK him!¡±
¡°Take all his gear!¡±
¡°Take his money!¡±
Scarlett raised her hand. The crowd went silent.
¡°There¡¯s no point in taking all his stuff since he has nothing to offer anyways. What¡¯s worse is that the item he just got is untradeable.¡±
The crowd started to get rowdy.
¡°That was supposed to be our guild leader¡¯s!¡±
¡°A thief!¡±
¡°Spread it around that this guy is a looter!¡±
Scarlett raised her hand again.
¡°Enough.¡±
Jack stepped in.
¡°Hey not too bad Rama, in one day you went from being a nobody to a somebody! Good on you!¡±
I let out a nervous laughter. The author''s content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
¡°Wait.¡±
I placed my hand under my chin and went into deep thought.
¡°It¡¯s not really my fault. If you have to blame someone...¡±
I pointed my finger at Jack.
¡°Jack should be the one to get the blame. I mean after all, if he didn¡¯t give me this car with a gun I wouldn¡¯t have even been apart of this.¡±
Jack¡¯s face went pale.
¡°Hold on, hold on.¡±
The crowd turned their attention towards Jack.
¡°I mean, what he¡¯s saying is true, but...¡±
Lian stepped in.
¡°Stop. Even with all of my calculations I couldn¡¯t foresee this.¡±
Lian shook his head.
¡°If anyone¡¯s to blame, it¡¯s me, I didn¡¯t take into account a wild card to appear on the field.¡±
Lian turned to Odin.
¡°Sorry Odin, it¡¯s my mistake.¡±
I let out a breath of relief.
¡°No.¡±
Odin walked passed Lian and stood in front of me.
¡°Where¡¯s your mech?¡±
¡°I don¡¯t have one...¡±
The crowd started laughing, but then Odin silenced them with a snap of his finger.
¡°How come?¡±
¡°I¡¯m still in the middle of doing my quests to get it...I¡¯m on the last one, but the NPC who gave it to me isn¡¯t available right now...¡±
¡°Which NPC?¡±
¡°Riza.¡±
A slight murmur began snaking through the crowd of Otomechs.
¡°NPC Riza?¡± Scarlett questioned.
¡°That shouldn¡¯t be right, Riza doesn¡¯t hand out quests.¡±
¡°What?¡±
I turned to Sheena.
¡°Is that true?¡±
She thought about it for a second.
¡°Now that you mention it, you are the first.¡±
The crowd started chiming in.
¡°Ahh he¡¯s lying.¡±
¡°A looter and a liar, how despicable.¡±
¡°Sucks to suck.¡±
¡°Yeah hate the way he looks.¡±
¡°Wait, that last one seems a little personal.¡± I shouted
¡°I can prove it.¡±
I showed them the quest log which had NPC Riza as the one who handed me the quest.
¡°Well he¡¯s right...¡± Scarlett said in disbelief. ¡°How is this possible?¡±
¡°Well...¡± Lian spoke.
¡°I heard a rumor. You know how in certain games, depending on how you play it, you can get different endings? He must¡¯ve done something differently from us to get a different quest line.¡±
¡°Wow Rama! You¡¯re quite the interesting guy.¡± Jack yelled.
It sounded good, but I couldn¡¯t care less about the stupid alternate quest line, I was already way far behind in the game.
¡°What did Verodith give you?¡± Odin sternly demanded.
¡°Uh lemme check.¡±
I went through my inventory.
Verodith¡¯s Obsidian Scales - Legendary Material
¡°Says I got its scales, which is a legendary material.¡±
¡°It¡¯s a weapon?¡± Scarlett asked?
¡°Doesn¡¯t look like it.¡± I replied.
¡°Alright, you¡¯re free to go.¡± Odin said.
¡°Really? That¡¯s it?¡±
¡°It¡¯s a legendary material, but it wasn¡¯t what Odin was looking for, so you¡¯re in luck.¡± Lian responded.
¡°Oh nice, aight well I¡¯ll be off then.¡±
I motioned Sheena to start the vehicle.
¡°Oh Jack, this is mine now right?¡±
¡°Man, you¡¯re greedy, stealing the last kill and now asking for my stuff.¡± Jack sighed. ¡°Sure, sure give me a second.¡±
I saw Jack motion his hands.
I checked my inventory. The vehicle was now mine.
¡°Alright, let¡¯s start gathering our loot guys.¡±
I saw everyone starting to move out onto the fields.
¡°Go, go, go.¡± I whispered to Sheena.
Both of us started making our way back to the town. As we left from the battlefield, all I could hear from those players behind us was:
¡°This seems like a lot less loot...¡±
¡°There¡¯s practically nothing here?¡±
¡°Where is everything?¡±
¡°What the...¡±
¡°THAT LITTLE SH*T!¡±
END
Chapter 15: Homecoming!
I let Sheena drive us the way back.
¡°Man they are really going to hate you Rama.¡±
We drove back with a heavy air hanging around us.
¡°Well there¡¯s nothing I can do about it, I needed the materials.¡±
I rested my chin against the window staring off at the plains. I had mixed feelings about this event. The item obtained was one of a kind, but I had no idea to make use of it. Not only that, but I might have just made enemies with one of the top guilds in the game.
The most mysterious piece in my inventory was this newly acquired I.O.U. (Identity Otomech Unknown). This wasn¡¯t something in the beginner¡¯s guide, or any of the guides for that matter.
¡°Well what¡¯s your plan now?¡±
¡°I don¡¯t really have one right. It¡¯s probably to see all these materials in hopes to get some cash.¡±
¡°Ohh...by the way Rama, what are you going to do with this thing?¡±
¡°You mean this vehicle? Not sure. It¡¯s a good temp mech for now I guess. I can probably do some simple killing quests around this town for some extra exp and money.¡±Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
We finally got to town.
The whole town had gathered to meet us at the entrance.
¡°AY HE¡¯S BACK!¡±
¡°WOW! Our very own local hero!¡±
¡°You did it!¡±
Word traveled fast that I had slain Verodith.
Clearing a [World Event] instantly gives a player notoriety in the game. However, my fame in town rose to an incredible height due to the fact that I was close with almost every NPC in the city.
Even the beginner players there were excited for me.
We all went to the [Fuel Pump] to celebrate.
I ordered drinks for everyone.
¡°The bill¡¯s on me!¡±
Everyone cheered.
It hadn¡¯t been this lively in a long time.
¡°So what item did you get Rama?¡±
The other players gathered around me. I opened my inventory and scrolled down to the legendary item drop.
¡°Some type of rare material.¡±
I clicked on the material.
Verodith¡¯s Obsidian Scales - Legendary Material
The Obsidian Scales of Verodith are said to be the hardest type of material in existence. The scales are jet black in color and have the smoothest texture.
Unprocessed
¡°Not sure how I¡¯m supposed to process this.¡± I stared at the description.
¡°Well I heard next town over is a crafting area-¡± one of the players said.
¡°What! Really?¡± I jumped out of my seat.
¡°Yeah, apparently it¡¯s a town full of NPC blacksmiths and player crafters. It¡¯s currently a hotspot for getting the best items out there. There might be someone who can understand what that description means.¡±
¡°Ahh- I see...¡±
As we were all enjoying ourself the door creaked open.
¡°Oh my! Things sure have changed.¡±
We all turned our head towards the door.
¡°RIZA?!¡±
The whole place unanimously shouted.
