Zeke P.O.V I walked across the empty street rain hitting the fabric of my leather jacket my hands buried in the pockets. A gunshot rang I jumped I should have been used to it by now but that sound still gets to me. I jogged up the stairs passing by two men about in their 40s staring at me. ¡°Hey Zeke is ya ma still working at that strip club¡± he snickers ¡°Hey I''ll go waste a few bucks to see her dance¡± the other said I clenched my hands into fists. It took all my strength not to turn around and sock the both in the mouth. I shook the thought out of my mind and I unlocked my apartment door and walked in. The apartment was trashed the tables and lamps have been knocked over and shattered painting were off their hinges and the carpet was messed up.. ¡°Ma, ma are you ok?¡± I take my jacket off and set it on the coat rack. ¡°Mama, ?Donde est¨¢s?¡± i walked into the kitchen seeing if she was in there. A pot of water was boiling on the stove almost flowing out of the pot. ¡°Por dios mama you need to be careful and not leave the stove on, i quickly walked over to it and turned it off. I heard movement behind me even through the terror in my head. I snapped my head around and saw a man dressed in normal clothes sneaking towards the front door. I jumped up and ran to him holding him by his collar against a wall. ¡°You killed my mom¡± ¡°I, I¡± he stuttered. ¡°Why did you kill her!!¡± I pulled him towards me then slammed him up against the wall again my knuckles turned white from how tight i was gripping the collar of his shirt. ¡°Why did you kill her! SHE DIDN''T DESERVE THAT¡± I yelled hitting him against the wall harder a red spot slowly started to appear. ¡°I didn''t want to¡± he breathed out. I put my hand around his neck squeezing. ¡°You didn''t have to fucking kill her, you could have let her be!¡± He reached for the gun in his pants waistband he raised it aiming at me I pushed his hand against the wall taking the gun and throwing it to the floor. ¡°She didn''t have to die¡± I squeezed tighter without realizing it. ¡°Who wanted to kill her.¡± I said tears already streaming down my face but rage and anger filled me more than sadness. His face turned blue as he stopped struggling, his hands fell to his side And I could no longer feel his heartbeat thumping only my blood shooting through my body. I just killed a man. He deserved it though he killed my mama. The front door busted open and the two guys from out side looked at me then to the man I was still holding against the wall. I let go and let him fall to the ground I look over at my mom, ignoring the two men next to me calling the police and checking on the man. I looked over at my mom her body lying on the ground as how i left it. I walked over to her and fell to my knees beside her. I grab her hand holding it in my own. 3 years later¡­¡­... ¡°Come on Guerrero, you''re finally going home¡± Trey, one of the newer guards said. ¡°I don''t have one¡± I mut We walked down the long corridors leaving cell block B and entering cell block A. Guys leaned against the doors as I walk by avoiding eye contact with most of them till I come up to a certain

¡°It''s finally your time to leave¡± he said shaking grabbing my hand shaking it. ¡°You got three more months¡± I said. ¡°I''ll come find you¡± he said smirking once I was pulled away by the guard. He walked me to the front room. The lady at the counter handed me the clothes I came in with 3 years ago, I would have been in longer but I kept doing my school work, I never got in trouble and I was still a kid. I looked at them and went to the bathroom throwing them on. The t-shirt was too small so I through the sweatshirt on it was tight but not tight enough to where it still fit. I took of the dark blue plants they made us where and slipped on the sweat pants leaving the restroom and throwing the clothes in the basket out of the restroom. ¡°Ready boy?¡± He said smiling. ¡°Sure¡± I said sliding on my black sunglasses and running my fingers through my hair. The gates opened and I walked through. People in the courtyard leaned against the fence looking at me. I looked at a familiar face. Chapter 2 2 years and 11 months ago¡­¡­ I''ve been in here for only a month, talked to no one, looked at no one. ¡°Look at this, they put a little kid in here¡± someone behind me said, I looked down at my plate of food. ¡°Look at me¡±¡¯he growled. I didn''t look I stared blankly at my food ignoring him. ¡°When I say look at me¡± he grabbed my shoulder and jerked me around to face him. ¡°You look at me¡± he finishes I follow the tribal snake swirling around his neck and up, next to his eye. His bald head cover in tribal tattoo. He breath smelled like rotten tomatoes and and his mud brown eyes were filled with anger. ¡°What you in here for¡± he says sitting down at the table next to me. I hesitated I just wanted to go unnoticed but that wasn''t gonna happen I rested my elbows on my knees and looked at him. ¡°I killed a man¡± I said looking right into his eyes he started to chuckle, then laugh all of his men laughed also. ¡°You want me to believe, that you a 16 year old, killed a man.¡± He laughed more, I stood up and placed my right hand on the side of his face and pushed him hard against the table.. The position he was in he couldn''t move, his goons didn''t do anything but stand there and stare. ¡°Look into my eyes¡± I whispered he adjusted his eyes to look into mine. ¡°1 month ago, my mother was murdered. I came home to see her dead body lying dead on the floor. The man who killed her hasn''t escaped yet. Imagine the rage I felt when I saw the man with the same 34 magnum that killed my mama in the waistband of his pants.¡± I pressed his head harder against the table. ¡°You tell me what I could do when I was filled with rage.¡± I let go of his head and headed out to the court yard, everyone in the cafeteria was watching even the guards. Present¡­¡­¡­ ¡±Well your free Guerrero¡± the guard said I looked at him then back at the prison. I took a deep breath and slowly started to walk down the long road into the countryside. A car horn honked I looked behind me and saw a Chevy heading my way. My Best friend from Elementary school was leaning out the window. ¡°Zekey!¡± He yelled I rubbed my forehead remembering how he''d call me that everyday no matter how much I hated it. ¡°What''s up smurf¡± I said. ¡°You will not let that go will you¡± he said as he pulled the car to a stop. In 5 grade I poured a ton of blue food coloring into Alex''s hot tub and when he came out he looked like a smurf ¡°Only if you stop calling me Zekey¡± I said ¡°Mann that''s not gonna happen, hop in¡± ¡°Why dude?¡± ¡°Because I''m taking you home¡± ¡°I don''t have a home¡± I said getting in the car. ¡°I talked to my mom, and you can stay with us.¡± ¡°Dude that''s nice but I''d only be a burden¡± ¡°That sucks moms already expecting us and we have the guest bedroom setup for you.¡±Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions. ¡°Ok, thanks dude, I''ll find my own place soon.¡± He smiled then did a U-turn heading back towards town and out of the country ride. It was a 2 hour ride from the Prison to his house we stopped for Dairy Queen before we left town. ¡°I have some extra clothes in the back if you want to change.¡± Alex said after finishing his ice cream. I looked into the back seat and there was a plastic Walmart bag full of clothes. I set it in my lap and ripped it open I grabbed a white tank top with a jean over long sleeve. I struggled to get the too tight of a sweatshirt off. ¡°Dude how the fuck did you get tattoos¡± Alex said looking at the tattoos I have on my body I looked at the roses on my ribs and the knife on my arm. ¡°Oh haha, 3 months ago my friends cell mate gave me some tattoos¡± ¡°I can see that¡± he said laughing ¡°We''re you like forced to?¡± He asked glancing at me before looking at the road again. ¡°Not at all actually it was my idea¡± I said smirking looking out the window. We still had one more hour till we reached Bend. it''s been 3 years since I last seen Bend I couldn''t stop but wondering if anyone would remember me. ¡°Hey dude you ok?¡± Alex asked when we reached Sisters Oregon. ¡°Yeah just thinking¡± ¡°About what?¡± ¡°Does anyone remember me?¡± ¡°Yeah dude Chelsi from middle school remembers you, she won''t shut up about you coming back.¡± Just saying you''ll probably be attacked by her at school tomorrow.¡± ¡°Wait what?.. School!¡± I looked at him. ¡°Yeah oh um mom sighted you up at school.¡± ¡°Dude I haven''t been in school for three years¡± ¡°But you did school work in prison¡± he choked on the word prison. ¡°Yeah but I don''t know if it will be good enough.¡± ¡°You''ll do just fine¡± he said I looked out the window and looked at the desert like plain and the million of pine trees. We pulled up into Bend and kept going down highway 20 until it connected with highway 97 he turned onto Parrell Rd and into Knightsbridge neighborhood. Alex drove into a two story house that looked similar to the others. ¡°Nice house dude¡± I said looking at it. ¡°Thanks¡± he got out of the car and walked around it towards the front door. I followed him holding the shirt I was wearing earlier. Alex walked in the house and yelled out for his mom. She came rushing out from a room. ¡°Zeke hey it''s great to see you¡± she came over and hugged me. I remembered coming over and stayed the night when my mom was going to be working late. ¡°Ms. Lane, it''s great to see you again¡± ¡°Please call me Jennel¡± she said ¡°Dinner will be ready in about ten¡± she said and went back to what i was guessing was the kitchen. ¡°Come on dude i''ll show you your room.¡± I followed him up the stairs and down the hallway the last room on the left was mine. I looked around a bed about hip height from the ground. Set against the front wall and a desk under a window outlooking the neighborhood. There was a stack of clothes on the bed and school supplies on the desk. ¡°Ill let you change if you want before dinner, those clothes should fit you if not mom will go and return them.¡± Alex said and left going next door to his room. I shut the door slowly and walked over to the bed. I stripped,out of the sweatpants and the jean jacket and tank top putting on jeans and a red t-shirt. ¡°Boys!!¡± Alex mom yelled. I grabbed the brush on the desk and fam it through my hair a few times then walked out of my room and jogged down the stairs. ¡°Oer here Zeke¡± his mom said i followed her voice around a corner there was a dining room table and on it was a big bowl of spaghetti and other side dishes i sat down in an empty chair and started filling my plate with food. Alex grabbed the spaghetti bowl before i could laughing do i grabbed the rolls and set two down on my plate. We started eating and his mom and him talked like it was a normal night, I couldn''t take it anymore. ¡°Why are you guys acting like this?¡± I ask they stop talking and look at me. ¡°What are you talking about Zeke?¡± His mom asked. ¡°You''re acting like there''s not a murderer sitting at your dining room table!¡± I said loudly. ¡°You''re not a murderer dude¡± ¡°Definition of murderer, someone who murders another person also known as a killer¡± i stand up looking at them both. ¡°That man, who killed your mother also killed three other people¡± Alex''s mother said standing up. ¡°His name was Daniel Virvince.¡± She continued on ¡°I don''t want to know¡± i said sitting down. ¡°You''re still the same guy i''ve known my whole life¡± Alex said ¡°Thanks dude¡± i said spinning the spaghetti around on my fork. ¡°You guys finish eating, you have school tomorrow¡± Ms. Lane said. Alex and i both groan at the same time. We finished eating dinner and Ms. Lane cleaned up the dining room table Alex and I headed upstairs. ¡°So you ready for school tomorrow?¡± He asked ¡°No, not at all¡± i said. ¡°Neither am i¡± he said and went in his room. I turned around and went to my room sliding under the comforters i layed my head down on the pillow and was surprised on how comfortable it was my eyes slowly started to flicker until i fell asleep. Chapter 3 ¡°Zekey¡± I heard a faint voice say. I felt something poking at my cheek I turned my head. The person above me grabbed my hand shaking me I immediately wake up grabbing their arm and pulling them down to the ground, bend their arm behind their back. When my eyes adjusted I saw it was Alex below me. ¡°Dude let me go¡± he breathed heavily, I quickly get up letting go of his arm. ¡°Alex I¡¯m so sorry,¡± I Said putting my hand over my mouth. ¡°It¡¯s ok dude, I came to tell you you got an hour to get ready.¡± He said standing up and rubbing his shoulder leaving the room. I rub the back of my neck and walk over to the desk where I set the clothes that were on the bed last night. I grabbed a pair of dark blue jeans and a dark purple t-shirt. I stripped out of the clothes from yesterday and slipped the jeans and T-shirt on. I brushed the tangles out of my hair. I looked around and found a shoebox under the desk i opened it up and inside a pair of white and blue pair of tennis shoes. I smiled and untied the black laces and sliding my feet in retying them. I grabbed the back under the desk and threw all the school supplies in them. I walked out of my room and down the stairs. The sky was getting lighter by the minute as it was coming close to seven. ¡°Morning Zeke, i have something for you¡± Ms. Lane said coming into the living room. She handed me a black box with the Verizon logo on it. I looked at it suprised then back at her. ¡°I can''t take this¡± i said handing it back to her ¡°It''s already paid for no returns, we set it all up and it already has Alex''s and my number on it, it''s yours Zeke.¡± She said handing it back i opened the box and took out the black Samsung i swiped on the skull on the lock screen opening it up. I started laughing when i saw the picture of Alex doing a duck face into the camera. I kept it and put the phone in my pants pocket. I looked onto the box again and there was a pair of white apple earphones i grabbed them and also putting them in my back pocket. ¡°You ready duda¡± alex said walking down the stairs ¡°Duda?¡± ¡°Yeah, doo plus dad equals duda¡± ¡°Ok whatever¡± i said laughing. He walked to the front door grabbing his car keys on the way lit. Follow him and getting in the passenger seat of the Chevy. He drove out of the neighborhood and turning onto Highway 97, I looked at the new phone in my hand smiling i opened the app store and downloaded facebook and messenger. ¡°We''re here dude¡± Alex said turning off the car and getting out. He grabbed his backpack from the back sat and started walking to the front door. I got out of the car and walked towards the front doors. When i got to the bottom of the stairs i heard someone yell my name. I turned around and saw a girl running up to me. She jumped ontop of me making me fall to the ground. ¡°Chelsi?¡± i asked looking at the girl with blackish looking wavy hair. ¡°Yes its me how are you¡± she asked hugging me. ¡°I''d be better if i wasn''t on my ass on the concrete.¡± i said she smiled and got up helping me up.This story has been stolen from Royal Road. People stared at me whispering chelsi must have noticed too because she grabbed my arm and pulled me to a locker. ¡°Where''s your locker¡± she asked. ¡°Chelsi I just got here I haven''t even had time to go to the office and get my schedule¡± i explained. ¡°Well then come on we have 15 minutes before class starts¡± she says grabbing my wrist and dragging me down the hallway. I don''t know if the people moving out of our way we''re scared of a murder in their school or the determined look on the captain of the Softball team as she dragged me down the hall. Chelsi isn''t short she''s taller than a lot of girls but shes 5¡¯9¡± where i''m 6¡± so there''s not much height difference between us. As we come up to what i''m guessing is the office Chelsi opens the door and walked up to the lady at the counter who looked about 35 and was pregnant. ¡°Hello Mrs. Anderson this is Zeke Guerrero he''s new here.¡± Chelsi said putting on a smile. ¡°Ok, here is your schedule Mr. Guerrero¡± she said miss pronouncing my last name. ¡°Thank you¡± i nod and grab the schedule we stepped out of the office and i looked at the schedule, chelsi stood next to me looking at the schedule. ¡°Oh dude you have biology 2 with me.¡± She said ¡°And also you have welding with me.¡± She said pointing at the classes. ¡°Awesome, ok my locker is B14¡± ¡°Oh that''s in hall B it''s just across the cafeteria¡± she said and started walking. I followed her weaving through the crowd. Whispers still filled the hall as i chased after Chelsie She stopped at a locker at the end of a row of lockers. ¡°This is your locker mine is in C hall¡± she says the first bell rang. ¡°Shit i gotta go i have Creative Writing in I hall, i will see you in 3 period she said and hurried around the corner and down a hallway. ¡°Zeke!¡± Alex yelled i looked down the hall ne was walking towards me. I looked down and saw he was holding hands with the girl next to him. She had light blonde hair going past her shoulder blades she was just as tall as Alex maybe a little shorter. ¡°Zeke this is my girlfriend Brandi¡± Alex said pointing at the girl next to him. ¡°Nice to meet you¡± I say she doesn''t say anything just nods. ¡°Ok i mumble and open my locker throwing my jacket in there.¡± ¡°Dude mo ficking way¡± Bramdi suddenly speaks amd grabs the phone that''s set in my backpack''s side pocket. She flipped it over and looked at the twenty one pilots phone case ¡°I love this fucking band¡± she said ¡°Oh my god she actually speaks¡± i say laughing Alex laughs to till Brandi gives him a cold glare. ¡°What class do you have¡± Alex said as he puts his arm around Brandi. ¡°Ummm, i have U.S. Government¡± i said looking at my schedule. ¡°I have photography with you¡± Brandi says looking at the paper. ¡°Dude yes study hall study hall with me seventh period¡± Alex said the final bell rang signaling we were late for class. ¡°Shit I gotta go love you¡± Brandi said giving Alex a small kiss on the cheek and entering the class right behind her. ¡°Hey i''ll see you soon dude i''ll text you at lunch¡± Alex said walking past me. I started walking down B hall i get to room B9 which was my first class i walk in and the teacher already started teaching. ¡°late on your first day Mr. Guerrero¡± the teacher said looking at the paper in his hands. ¡°Well unless you want to stand there all period i suggest you take a seat.¡± He said i look around the class everyone''s eyes were on me i walk across the classroom and to the seat in the corner the dude in front of me gave me a cold glare then looked ahead of him. ¡°Ok class i hope you all finished your assignment last night¡± the teacher said. I sit there awkwardly as almost everyone pulls their binders out of their bags. ¡°Mr. Guerrero right now why i go over with everyone their assignments why don''t you and go check out a history textbook.¡± He said i stand up and walk out of the class i turn to the left and start walking slowly. After i end up next to my locker i realize i have no idea where the library is. Chapter 4 I started to walk backward and when I turned around I ran into something hard. I stumbled back and looked at the stack of books on the floor. ¡°Great¡± the girl in front of me mumbled as she picked up the books. ¡°I''m sorry,¡± I said and grabbed the books that strayed far off ¡°Oh its ok I should have been looking where I was going¡± she was stacking the books up in her arms. ¡°That''s a lot of books,¡± I said handing her the rest.¡± ¡°Well yeah they''re a sequel and I couldn''t just check one out at a time what if I finish it and then someone else has the others I can''t wait for them to return the book.¡± She said getting a little louder and talking with her one free hand. ¡°Sorry¡± she laughs she looks up at me and tilts her head. ¡°You''re new here aren''t you¡± I nod ¡°Are you lost?¡± She asked ¡°Yeah, kinda I''m looking for the library¡± her face lit up. ¡°I''m heading there right now come on let''s go¡± she says and spins on the heels of her feet I started following her down the hallway I came from we passed by my classroom and went up three steps as we came to an intersection in the hallways we turned left and went through a pair of double doors. ¡°Here''s the library,¡± she said and started sliding her books in a slot. I walk up to the desk in the middle of the library. ¡°Hi I need a U.S. Government textbook,¡± I said looking at the man at the desk. ¡°Name,¡± he says as he grabs a book below his desk. ¡°Zeke Guerrero,¡± I said he scanned the barcode. ¡°Student ID¡± ¡°356112,¡± I said looking at the numbers I wrote on my hand. ¡°Ok here you go,¡± he says handing me the textbook a take it and starts heading to the doors. ¡°Thanks for helping me,¡± I said to the girl she had long dark brown hair that fell mid torso. ¡°No problem Zeke,¡± she said not looking at me. ¡°How did you know my name, I never told you it?¡± ¡°Oh I''m on the debate team we did a debate about you.¡± ¡°A debate?¡± ¡°Yeah, our debate class were debating about if you should have stayed in prison or go to juvie.¡± ¡°What did you think¡± ¡°I thought juice to be honest but I got beat by Miranda, they only like her because she pretty much undressed in front of all the guys, shit I shouldn''t have said that!¡± She quickly turned around and looked at me. ¡°Haha it''s ok I won''t tell, I should get back to class nice to meet you¡± I walked out of the library and back towards my class I had more confidence knowing not everyone at this school was afraid to even just look in my direction.The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. ¡°Ah Mr. Guerrero I thought you might have left us.¡± the teacher said at his desk everyone else was writing on a piece of paper. ¡°And leave my favorite teacher, never,¡± I say with sarcasm and sit at my desk. I grab a piece of paper out of my binder and copy down the notes that he has written on the board. The guy in front of me turned around and stared at me until I looked up at him. ¡°Can I help you?¡± I ask giving him a cold stare. ¡°Party tonight at the Rimes house I''m sure your buddy Alex knows where it''s at.¡± ¡°And why would I want to go to a party¡± ¡°Because you''re new to town and new to the people¡± ¡°I''m not new and I know the people¡± ¡°Whatever nut if your interested¡± ¡°Mr. Smith please turn around now,¡± the teacher said I looked down at my paper as the bell rang I put the paper in my History folder and grabbed my bag leaving class. ¡°Do you think he killed anyone in prison¡± ¡°I heard he''s living in the school¡± ¡°Don''t go near him¡± rumors filled the school and whispers were spoken as I walked by ignoring everyone. I grabbed the folded up piece of paper in my pocket and unfolded it looking at it, lit and comp in I hall with I looked at the name next to the class, Ms. Presler I walk down the hall and luckily there were signs around the school I looked at the sign and the corner of the wall. I hall was to my left. I turned left and walked through an outside corridor and across C hall intersection and into D Hall. There''s lots of halls and can get confusing but after walking through D Hall I find another hallway which was I hall. I hall was the only one with a curve to it I walk down it and find the room I 3 I walk it was the same size as most rooms in this school. ¡°Zeke,¡± someone said my name I look around the room and there was Mia from the library. ¡°Hi,¡± I say and sit down in the back of the class. Mia walks over to me and stands in front of my desk holding her hydro flask. ¡°Hey, why you look sad?¡± ¡°I''m not¡± ¡°Lair!¡± she said loudly bringing everyone''s attention over to, a lot of people in this school don''t like me, their spreading rumors and all I want is for what happened three years ago to go away,¡± I say looking at my hands memories from what happened three years ago filled my head. ¡°Ok students let''s begin on our new project, I want you all to write a short story in someone else''s perspective that has happened, let''s say your mom was baking cookies and hurt herself write what happened in their perspective.¡± She paused while passing out the rubric. ¡°You have until Wednesday to finish it you have today in class but Tuesday if not finished its homework.¡± She said standing back at the front of the class. She looked at the clock for a few seconds ¡°You have 30 minutes,¡± she said and left the classroom. Some kids started writing and others were just talking. ¡°Amber get your ass over here¡± I looked up and Mia was yelling at a girl with pastel purple hair. ¡°Come and get it,¡± The girl said holding up a phone in a blue and gold case, our school colors. Mia walked over to the girl trying to reach up. The girl ran over and behind me trying to dodge mia. ¡°Zekeeeeee¡± Mia whined I know what she wanted I stood up and grabbed the phone quickly out of the girl''s hand before she could react. ¡°Ha!¡± Mia said walking over to me grabbing the phone from my outreached arm. ¡°Ugh, no fair,¡± she said. ¡°Amber this is Zeke, Zeke this is my friend, Amber¡± ¡°Hi,¡± she said sitting next to me.
