《Watching Grass Grow》 Prologue Part 1: The Day I Died Death the inevitable outcome of life whether you accept or try to run but from the moment you take your first breath he awaits with his hand outstretched and a smile on his face. So how does someone cope with death, well for me 18 year old Joseph Phisher I wanted to face my death with some pride. Don¡¯t think I¡¯m just some disillusioned child I have no grand belief about death being the next stage in someone¡¯s life or whatever. But I do believe that when someone¡¯s time has finally come helplessly fighting it just hurts more, for you and those you love. This is how I wanted to feel when my time finally came even if it happened tomorrow, to see death coming and know that it¡¯s time. I¡¯m not saying that I won¡¯t have any regrets or I don¡¯t fear death because anyone saying that is either a saint or can lie to himself and that¡¯s not me. What I am saying is when death comes knocking and asks for your name there is only one way you can answer no matter how much you struggle, best to answer him with some dignity. Know you might be wondering why I¡¯m currently talking to myself, well as you can probably already tell I died congratulations to those who guessed it. And as it turns out there is an afterlife of sort, by that I mean a black void that stretches out everywhere with no body or senses just your own conscious thoughts, best way to cause madness if you ask me. Anyway you probably want to know how I got here, well listen up I¡¯m not saying it again even if you got last. It all started on a Monday morning I woke up a 7:00am and did the usual routine of getting dressed, brushing my teeth and packing my bag with necessities for college lessons. After that I went down stairs to join my family for breakfast, my family is pretty normal perhaps better than average. My mother Elisa and father Robin were both 23 when they had me as their first child, though young they were stable with decent jobs she a nurse he a businessman. But even with their jobs they still put some time aside to spend with each other and their child, not surprising that their free time brought more siblings. I have twin identical sisters Maria and Sophie, only 6 years old with blue eyes and brown pig tails Sophie acts like the leader of the two while Maria is the quiet one. College is a short 30-40 minute walk depending on conditions I knew this would be one of the longer journeys because as I was passing at the top of a T-junction my path was blocked by road works. Here is when things got weird as I was attempting to pass by crossing the road the lane filled up with waiting cars blocking my path. ¡°Beeeeeep¡± Hearing a loud horn I looked behind me to see the other side of the junction blocked by a truck who swerved mounted the curve and stopped just before hitting a building. An accident I thought wondering if someone got hurt, a commotion drew my attention down the T-junction where a speeding car was closing in on some speed bumps. ¡°It¡¯s going to get worse¡± I said jinxing myself when the car hit the speed bump causing it to go airborne and It went higher than expected starting to turn end over end like a cartwheel. Remember me saying that I hoped to face death with some dignity well this reaper must have been a newbie because this method of killing me was just childish. With a cartwheeling car heading for me a truck to my right and a barrier on my left it could only end one way which provoked my last words. ¡°Fuck me¡±. I have to say it was pretty painless apart from the initial impact which was strong enough to knock me out ,don¡¯t know what happened after that but I¡¯m confident the car killed me. Why because everything seemed to perfect for a simple accident, I mean seriously it was like Final Destination you see it coming but no matter what you do your already a dead man. Well after my dramatic eviction from life I gained consciousness in this black void and I¡¯ve been replaying the story of my death to myself over and over again to pass the time, makes for a good comedy sketch. This time is different I see or sense a bright light expanding in my vision or presence could this be the next stage of the afterlife or am I simply descending into insanity. Well it looks like I have no choice in whatever it is so let¡¯s just go along with it maybe it can get rid of this boredom. Prologue Part 2: The Soul Exchange Authors Note: I looked over my first release and have made improvements to the other chapters, I didn''t realize the spacing was that bad. Anyway my story will have a pretty lengthy prologue, it''s annoying I know but it will tie in to the rest of the story, eventually. In a dimension outside of our own, 5 beings of immense power and authority have gathered to finalize the deal that will alter not only our world¡¯s fate, but another by the name of Floera, now seated together forming a half circle these beings begin to converse. [???] ¡°So to clarify today¡¯s agenda in exchange for the assistance of a certain God of Creation in protecting the Milky Way from an apocalypse, a being from Earth will be offered to Floera to act as a catalyst in advancing the current inhabitants. Speech will have these "oooo" symbols, Inner monologue will have these ''oooo'' symbols and normal description will be left without symbols. Also while my writing style has me working on 3 chapters at once, while this ones posted chapter 1 is being spell checked, chapter 2 is a rough draft and chapter 3 needs to be written. Chapters after this one might take longer because coming towards Christmas things get busy, but i promise you I will not stop writing chapters. POV: Joseph Phisher ¡®The light expands in my vision until the darkness is no more, and standing in this light filled world are 5 figures in a half circle facing me. On my far left there¡¯s a man with a thin pale complexion, short dark hair and orbs of pitch for eyes, he wears a black robe and resembles a stereotypical cultist. Next to him stands a well-toned man with short brown hair, mud eyes, worn jeans and no shirt, give him a straw hat and a stalk to chew on an we have a farmer. At the center of the group is a ten year old girl with a simple white piece dress, long snow white hair and eyes of silver, for a child she feels old like a wise grandma. Next to her we have a super model with gold hair, gold eyes and ¡­ gold lips seriously this person probably has gold for bones. She¡¯s too perfect with an Athenian goddess style dress an hourglass figure and those mango''s stuck to her chest, look away before she blinds you.¡¯ [Supermodel] ¡°Welcome human to the realm of the gods, we have a proposition for you that I know you¡¯re going to love, we want to offer you¡­¡± ¡®I ignored the blond supermodel and turned to look at the final person in the group, her image was fuzzy as if trying to hide from my sight. Once the image was focused my voice screamed out of me revealing my thoughts to the world and shocking its few inhabitants.¡¯ [Joseph] ¡°DAAAMMMMMM THOSE TITS ARE HUGE!¡± ¡®The blonde model was silenced, two males stifled there laughter and the wise girl didn¡¯t speak a word. And then we have abilities, not sure how this will go but the current 3 seem good. Status system is self-explanatory; character growth seems to be linked with nutrients and abilities I guess there more like skill points. Life blessing what does it mean by plant structure, could I become a cactus in the middle of a jungle, or perhaps an apple tree in the dessert. OK next tab growth menu show me what you got. *The growth menu lists all the parts you can grow from your current body from roots to flowers, each one has its own benefits. Abilities do not add visually to the body but can enhance your survival capability. Be sure to choose wisely, certain options may be ineffective in your current environment.* *Growth Menu Seed Break/ Grants ability to break free from your shell and begin your new life as a plant.* ¡®Hmmm¡­ well I guess having an option to grow anything at the beginning is too much of a cheat, and it makes sense that you can¡¯t grow when you¡¯re stuck in a ball. So to clarify I generate nutrients then use those nutrients for upgrading myself even further. Does it have an end, oh well next tab body layout.¡¯ *Body layout shows a 3D replica of your body, here you are able to indicate were body parts will grow after purchase and upgrade existing body parts, the map will expand as you grow.* After reading the message my view changes to a black canvas with a white dot at its center that looks very similar to an egg, in size and shape. ¡®So this is the current me, I must be the ugliest seed that has ever been born¡­, laid¡­, formed¡­ how are seeds created anyway? Anyway status first I currently have 1000N with a 1N per hour generation rate, as a seed the generation rate is frozen so breaking my shell is step 1.¡¯ Stolen story; please report. *Do you wish to purchase the ability seed break for 0N? Not a pleasant moment as I was buried alive and didn¡¯t comprehend it till the feeling of earth started to appear all over my body. I panicked for a bit the usual way surprised, shock mentally flailing before exhausting myself and calming down to think clearly. ¡®Ok I¡¯m a seed, seeds are normally planted in the ground, I probably didn¡¯t sense it while trapped in my seed because the shell acted like a barrier protecting me from everything. After breaking the shell everything entered at once and my sense of touch went into overdrive causing me to panic, only touch nothing else. This is a pretty weird feeling, I can sense my small body but taste, sight, smell and sound are vacant. I guess the closest comparison would be to wrap your body in bubble wrap except for your chest¡­ I know it¡¯s a weird feeling. Even though I have no eyes I can still see these messages like this current one that was ignored during my panicking.¡¯ *You ranked up to seedling. But all demons have strong physical and magical capabilities add their unique ability available to each type of demon and you have a powerful race. However the God of Darkness was unaware that creating such strong beings will naturally have faults, while they live long there birth rate is very low in comparison to their strength.¡± ¡®No matter how much you try the laws of nature will always restore balance, God of Darkness you should¡¯ve known better a race with that much power will naturally have trouble in other areas.¡¯ [Ellie] ¡°Dwarves are the only non-invasive race that came to this continent, they are short but strong, renowned as the best crafters and use a power similar but not quite magic. Though they are complete opposite to the elfs which causes some tension they live in completely different environments which keeps them separated. But you let me have my tree back so now I¡¯m accepted as a pure fairy again, this never usually happens so there¡¯s a loophole.¡± ¡®Purists and here I thought fairies were supposed to be all friendly and helpful to each other. So the situation with beasts is like hunters eyeing a really aggressive herd, attack one and you have a stampede but take out the loner who¡¯s rejected by everyone and your fine.¡¯ [Ellie] ¡°Monsters are the opposite of us fairies, they are created from the world¡¯s corruption and seek only to destroy. But a closer look will tell you otherwise though there shape resembles that of wolves there brown coats are dyed with all manner of substances from dirt to blood. There coats were damaged in multiple areas showing infected wounds and their eyes were crimson red. These are signs that these wolves are monsters known as Ravaged Wolves; they are born when a wolf is corrupted and loses the ability to heal wounds as such it inevitable ends up in such a state. The wolves were arranged with one large wolf at the center of a square created by the other four. The large one probably attained the rank of pack alpha before being corrupted explaining its size and ability to control others. Such an existence is only slightly stronger than the other Ravaged Wolves but its ability to control a pack raises the risk level. [Aria] ¡°Il restrain them, then you use one of your spells to annihilate them.¡± [Ellie] ¡°Got it.¡± The large wolf howled before the pack started to advance slowly not showing a single bit of caution, the corruption will do that to you; mind, body and soul nothing is safe once it¡¯s got you. [Aria] ¡°Would you mind restraining them for me, please?¡± Aria spoke those words while stroking a nearby tree, the tree immediately replied by sending its roots up above ground and binding the legs of the five wolves. [Ellie] ¡°By the will of the forest, I claim your flesh, Root Pit.¡± Before the wolves could react, the earth beneath them exploded outwards and the wolves were tossed into the air. Roots flew from the pit and grasped for its prey, once it gained a hold of a falling wolf it immediately descended and pulled its prey down with it into the pit. This was repeated for all the falling wolves; even the larger one could not defend itself against such an onslaught. Once all the wolves were in the pit, the earth moved and the pit was sealed as if nothing happened. [Ellie] ¡°¡­¡± [Aria] ¡°It seems we need to have a chat about these spells of yours.¡± Chapter 8: Shopping for Abilities Authors Notes: Well that''s the introduction out of the way, and before Christmas as well, it''s unfortunate to say but I probably won''t release another chapter until after new year, however i''l still be writing so who knows I might release multiple chapters to start the new year. POV: Mystical Sakura During the battle involving a pack of wolves and two nymphs, none of them realised that another presence was observing the fight. Once the battle was over he returned to his body to contemplate what he just saw through the eyes of Aria¡¯s tree. ¡®That was¡­ anticlimactic, don¡¯t get me wrong I¡¯m glad no one was hurt but still a few words and pack of what I¡¯m guessing were monsters got eaten. With this I can assume that Ellie is naturally stronger though their current levels might make them equal in fighting potential at the moment. I can¡¯t see their abilities but I have a rough estimation from their titles; I have seen Ellie use magic and her title suggests she specialises in high damage AOE spells. I didn¡¯t see Aria use magic but I saw the tree she was holding bend to her will and with her title I¡¯m guessing she is able to manipulate objects possibly people and beasts as well. Tia seems to use poison but her title suggests she uses it in a special way, and finally Maria well her title says it all, Crusher no further explanation necessary. Put them together and what do you get¡­¡¯ At that moment the group on the other side came into focus revealing 12 beings. 2 Young girls with green hair and eyes like nymphs but with bark covering their arms and legs with no clothes leaving them completely exposed. 6 winged beings the size of Barbie dolls, all unclothed and all female with different hair styles and colours. Finally the most varied of the group are the 4 older looking girls though 3 of them can still be considered children from looks they still look older compared with the large number of loli¡¯s around. 2 have blonde hair one has green and there wearing what appears to be silk clothing though not much just enough to protect modesty. The final one looked older around early twenties with blue hair sapphire eyes and a cyan silk one piece skirt fixed to her body. She had noticeable tattoos along her arms and legs but that didn¡¯t draw Joseph¡¯s attention from the plot. ¡®Damn, another fine rack not as good as Irina¡¯s but definitely worthy of being a hug pillow among other things. The being retreats sending his mind back to his original body, opening his eyes to his four guardians and the twelve refugees who he moved before scouting ahead. Within were a few beings similar to the ones he just saw around his main body, the smaller ones with wings were kept in jars hanging from the cage. On closer inspection he could see three in the back with rabbit ears protruding above their heads, two children and one older looking one holding the other two near him/her. ¡®There¡¯s the carriage now let¡¯s see what I¡¯m dealing with, the bald one in leather and carrying a sword looks dangerous especially with his muscles but this is a fantasy world how much do muscles actually count for here. And if anything it doesn¡¯t match what he¡¯s wearing for combat, light and nimble with muscles bigger than a professional weight lifter is he fast or just poor. Changing focus other than him I see four others wandering around who suit the bandit image to a tee; leather armour, rusty swords, worn bows, thin frame and their faces; big nose, lazy eye, mohawk and scar, easy to tell apart. The other two members are slightly worrying, one has a two handed battle-axe and is equipped with full body armour including a helmet that covers the face all polished to a shine. Then we have the robed one, black with some red markings in places, can¡¯t see his face with that hood, is he a mage.¡¯ While Joseph is distracted by the possible mage a commotion at the back of the carriage draws his attention. [Bald Man] ¡°Get back in there, and if you think of running away again well let¡¯s just say I¡¯m looking forward to it.¡± The girl shuffles to the back of the cage as if the little distance she can get will allow her to escape from the man. Prioritise targets, do I go with the weak bandits or strong knight, it¡¯s usually the case to take down the strongest first but if he reacts first¡­ fuck it let¡¯s do this.¡¯ After the brief thought on strategy the trees began to make their move, the carriage had started moving off but the horses were a bit nervous as if sensing something was about to go down. ¡®Sorry guys but I can¡¯t have you running, please forgive me for my selfish action.¡¯ At his thoughts spikes erupted from the ground and pierced the two horses pulling the carriage, it was quick didn¡¯t have time to notice the pain. Everyone immediately responded; bandits drew their swords, the knight his axe, the mage a rod and the one in the seat stood and looked at the now impaled horses. The next event two roots sprouted from the ground and latched on the legs of the two bandits in front of the carriage dragging them into the air before bringing them both down onto the knight. With little care for his allies the knight swung his axe cutting the bandits in two and separating the tips of the roots. ¡®Damn that fucking hurts, it was barely a scratch but I felt the pain, got to be careful he doesn¡¯t target my current tree.¡¯ Switching targets the roots erupted from the ground near the three bandits at the back attempting to smash them into the ground. This thought was immediately halted when flames spewed from the hand of the mage and coated the roots. ¡®Aaaaaarrrggg, fuck fuck fuck that burns. Damn it you piece of shit IL make you pay for that.¡¯ Immediately fulfilling is vow six roots erupted from beneath the mage and grabbed a body part; torso, head, arms and legs then lifted him into the air. To prevent distractions Joseph raised the roots around the feet of the four grounded figures to cage them if only temporarily. With the mage in his grasp the roots holding his limbs began to pull creating a cracking sound of bones breaking before coming away with the separated limbs. The two remaining roots then separated the head from the torso ensuring he was dead. Joseph then flung the body parts at the bandits to distract them further while he focused on the knight who just finished hacking through his cage causing a fair amount of pain to Joseph. Still suffering from the pain caused by the fire magic and with the added pain of being cut Joseph did not second guess his method for dealing with the knight. Similar to the mage roots erupted from beneath the knight but in larger numbers and less precise they grasped any part of the knight they could and raised him into the air. The knight dropped his axe but continued to fight tearing at the roots inflicting more damage and enraging Joseph more. The roots began to constrict very quickly, the knight noticing his predicament fought harder but could not compete with the roots, his armour started to creak and groan as it was forced inwards. The knight started to flail giving up his composure in place of fear, in that moment the roots constricted to their limit instantly turning the knight into a metal ball with red flowing through the numerous gaps. Joseph flung the ball at mohawk which squashed him like an ant, then Joseph finished lazy eye by simply impaling him on a raised root, this left the rider and the bald man. ¡®Now that the others are gone we have two left, the child rapist and the one who I¡¯m guessing is the slave merchant. I did say I would erase them from the face of the planet¡­ guess I have no choice, wouldn¡¯t want people calling me a liar know.¡¯ Grabbing the two around the waist Joseph lifted them above the treetops were he kept the roots rigid while the two captured began to flail and yell in words Joseph understood but didn¡¯t much care to hear. Using two other roots Joseph pulled down the two rigid poles building up tension. Then when the two humans touched the ground with their feet, he let go. The two went shooting into the sky and disappeared through the clouds and out of sight. ¡®Know with that done let¡¯s deal with this carriage, wait didn¡¯t that slave merchant have the keys.¡¯ Joseph set his sights on the figures trapped in the cage who were visibly terrified by what just transpired, a few passed while some broke down in tears, surprisingly no one lost control of their bladder but now a problem remained. ¡®Aaah, fuck me.¡¯ POV: Random Passer-by While Joseph was handling the slavers beneath the treetops an old man with a kind face and white Gandalf style beard was flying above the clouds with his angel like wings while wearing a simple white robe. As he was passing by the battles location the man was forced to stop from the appearance of two humans rising from the clouds in the air and soaring towards the horizon. The old man was puzzled by this event and pondered for a bit. [Gandalf Impersonator] ¡°I don¡¯t recall when humans learned to fly, perhaps it is a sign of things to come?¡± Chapter 11: More Servants POV: Mystical Sakura ¡®Aaagh fuck me, what am I supposed to do now?¡¯ After eliminating the human slavers the beings attention was drawn to those trapped in the cage were he finally realized. ¡®That man I just threw over the horizon probably had the keys, not only that the captives just saw something straight out of a horror film. I mean if a mage did that they would still call him a monster but at least a monster is tied to a physical body, trees moving on their own without anyone giving commands will definitely make a scene. ¡­So how am I going to move them now, I didn¡¯t really think this through to begin with otherwise I would have brought Ellie to act as a guide. Huh, well my image can¡¯t get any worse, here we go.¡¯ POV: Older Rabbit [Young Rabbit 1] ¡°What¡¯s going to happen to us?¡± [Young Rabbit 2] ¡°Are we going to die?¡± [Older Rabbit] ¡°Ssshhh you two don¡¯t be frightened everything will be fine.¡± ¡®I said that as I comforted them but everything was certainly not fine, after seeing what became of the humans and how they were brutally killed without any hint of hesitation I started to think we were probably better off as slaves. My name is Naomi of the rabbit clan, a recognized scout of my village for my strong legs, a trait of the rabbit clan yet mine showed strength better than anyone apart from the chief. That is until a few weeks ago when my village was attacked by the wolf clan, it was nothing to different from usual, and my village already had plans set to protect the young should an attack occur. But how could we predict an attack from two sides with different purposes, after driving off the wolf clan a group of us went to retrieve the young only to hear that they were attacked. My clan were not idiots and the young had guards however a majority of them were young with few veterans, they were ambushed by a larger force of humans. The guard drove them back (not surprising) but at a cost, the humans abducted a fair number of our young to be turned into slaves. I acted immediately and chased after them while the others went to inform the rest of the clan. The large force separated as they traveled as if there only purpose was that one attack, I intended to retreat and inform my clan but spotted one group resting nearby. They had a large cage with five guards and one sitting at the reigns who appeared to be a merchant and inside the cage was his new merchandise, two young females from my clan. I thought I would be capable of handling this much but my overconfidence lead me to forget a basic rule about ambushes, always check there numbers. When I darted out of the trees I aimed for the nearest guard a bald thug but my sword was stopped by an armoured hand, I jumped back to assess the new threat before being knocked down by a fireball. A knight in polished steel and a fire mage, with the element of surprise gone and being completely outnumbered I was easily subdued. My legs were broken by the knight, the merchant complained about it saying it would reduce my price but the knight would not allow his enemy a chance to escape especially the fast running rabbit clan, and thus started my life as a slave. We continued to travel, I attempted to comfort the children while the slavers collected members of the fairy race, apparently they received information about their location in exchange for the attack on my clan, two slaves was inadequate for their services. The slavers had collected quite a number of new slaves when it happened; I was still comforting the two children who continued to despair at their situation. The bald thug returned with a young girl who attempted to flee earlier, she was still pure though I¡¯m not sure how long that will last after the escape attempt. The cage started to move when suddenly two spikes came from the ground and impaled the horses, chaos immediately took hold I was unable to see all the events as the girls within the cage would not stop moving. But I did see it, the fire mage who defeated me was casually lifted into the air and pulled apart as if plucking petals from a flower, next was the knight who continued to fight even while being lifted into the air but still he ended up as a ball of metal and flesh thrown towards his allies. The last part I focused not on the two who were thrown into the sky but what was it that actually threw them. Roots, tree roots to be precise but who or what caused them to move and what does it plan to do with us. When the chaos died down either to being frozen in fear or passing out I could see what was happening outside this cage, an arch was formed from tree roots stretching towards the sky. The two nearest roots came towards us and grasped the cage, panic ensued as our cage was lifted and passed down the arch from one pair of roots to the next. Eventually everything became silent, we were still being passed down the arch but everyone gave up on screaming as it would not affect their situation, the two children have been embracing me with more strength since the slavers were killed. They did not ask any questions which I was grateful for as I would not know how to answer them in my current state of mind. We came to a clearing and all the members of the fairy race currently trapped with us gave out a sound of surprise. The clearing held only one thing that could register such a reaction, a tree at the centre of the clearing with white bark and pink leaves, no petals this tree had petals. And the whole thing radiated an aura as if to welcome us to a sanctuary, if I were to have walked in on this place alone I would believe I had stepped into the garden of the gods. As we were brought closer a group appeared from the trees and approached the cage, we were placed down right in front of them, the members of the fairy race started to cheer up perhaps they recognize them. A girl at the back of the group told everyone to stand back as the group complied roots sprouted from the ground and grasped all faces of the cage except for the one facing the group. She¡¯s the one in control I thought, then two roots sprouted between us and grasped the cage door and with a groan and sudden jolt the door was broken off and tossed to the side. The group outside then entered the cage to help everyone out, even the jars holding the small winged fairies were opened and their occupants released, I was left in the cage with the two of my clan. We are not the same how will they treat us, roots came from the ground and entered the cage, I knew it were going to die I hid the faces of the two children who cried in my arms and closed my eyes. I started to feel the roots touching my legs and climbing upwards, because my job requires a lot of running the clothes covering my legs are usually short but I can feel the roots heading to my private area.¡¯ [Naomi] ¡°Please.¡± ¡®I begged not wanting to be violated before I die, but the roots continued further and stopped just before entering my clothing then tightened on my flesh.¡¯ [Naomi] ¡°Aaaaagghh!¡± ¡®I screamed as the pain in my broken legs that I had learned to ignore was reawakened, the children in my arms were crying harder as they heard my pain. The roots started to move while gripping my legs I prayed for a quick death and hoped it wouldn¡¯t treat me like the knight and mage from earlier as it manipulated my legs making me cry out in pain. Then the moving stopped, I looked at my legs with gritted teeth and was surprised by what I saw, they had been moved from there broken angle and set ready for healing. Are they trying to help I thought, it would be nice to get my legs back but I already knew it was hopeless. The group outside of the cage split and the one who controls the plant came towards me; she had green eyes, long green hair and a short stature. I would say she was the same as some of the others within the cage apart from one noticeable difference her breast hugged tightly by her leaf dress would put most women to shame and with such a small body too. She came towards me holding out her hands with a pink petal resting inside. [Big Breasted Fairy] ¡°This will heal you.¡± ¡®Is what she said before dropping the petal on my legs, a light immediately started to emit from my legs forcing me to close my eyes, when I opened them my legs were healed as if it never happened. The children in my arms were staring at my legs in awe, I looked at the face of my healer she had her hand held out for me so I took it and she pulled me onto my feet while helping me to keep my balance.¡¯ [Big Breasted Fairy] ¡°Mistress would like to speak with us now.¡± POV: Mystical Sakura ¡®Woooeee nelly, would you just look at this haul, I¡¯ve got enough here to start a small town, which is probably what is going to happen after taking half of them on as slaves. With a little help from Ellie I was able to identify each type of fairy and count like that. First the 13 small exhibitionists with wings are pixies, the 3 children with branches for arms and legs are dryads, the 8 normal looking ones along with the older one are sylphs and the 3 green hairs left out of the group are nymphs who have lost their trees. Which brings me to the best part the last 3 who were hiding at the back of the cage were bunnygirls that¡¯s right bunnygirls, I wasn¡¯t sure when I first saw them before the rescue but now I¡¯m sure official furries. Even better she¡¯s definitely not a child, fairy or naked so it¡¯s all good I was starting to worry that I would be surrounded by barely clothed lolis for my whole life but that problem is now behind me. POV: Crystal In the newly established fairy kings forest near the outskirts of the forest a group of fairies have gathered close to Maria¡¯s tree and have been discussing their current situation. [???] ¡°I¡¯m telling you this place is doomed, Crystal you should not have sworn our lives to him on a whim.¡± The group consists of the newly chosen ambassadors of specific fairy species and guardian nymph Maria in a circle facing each other while being surrounded by the other new fairies. Contrary to what people believe fairies are not simple minded creatures that cannot lead themselves. There way of living is simple making leadership unnecessary, but when a crisis appears the fairies will create temporary leaders to unite them. As such the current ambassadors who were chosen are officially recognized by the other fairies allowing for this discussion to take place. The one who just spoke up was a pixie and the previously nicknamed matchstick that refuses to believe that one tree can solve all their problems. [Crystal] ¡°Ember we would not survive outside our master¡¯s boundary, with beasts, slavers and all sorts out to get us we were lucky to have found someone willing to accept our offer. The master could have easily captured us and turned us into slaves by force but instead he opted to protect and care for us in exchange for our servitude. We would be hard-pressed to find a better opportunity elsewhere and that¡¯s without considering who we might lose on the way.¡± [Ember] ¡°Our home was better, we were protected and everything there was perfect.¡± [Crystal] ¡°It was our home; we cannot live there anymore now that the humans have found it. You saw how they broke into our sanctuary and rounded everyone up. The only reason we survived is because they ran out of space in their cage and even then they still killed all those nymphs who couldn¡¯t flee.¡± [Ember] ¡°Better they were killed than lose their rights as a fairy like those three over there.¡± At her words the nymph ambassador and the other two cringed unable to defend themselves while Crystal did not react. All fairies are aware of a nymph¡¯s unique situation as a part of their race, if there bond with a tree was separated there rights as a member of the fairy race was gone. That said the master had just bonded the nymphs to a new tree something that was never thought possible and as such left a problem, do we accept them back or keep treating them as outcasts, this question was answered by Maria who has been in the same situation once she heard about Ellie. [Maria] ¡°Master has already told me that the nymphs are members of the fairy race, and that if you can¡¯t accept this you can leave.¡± This came as a relief to the nymphs in the group as it confirmed they could stay and that they would be protected from becoming outcasts. [Crystal] ¡°We understand and would not dare to go against the master.¡± [Ember] ¡°He is not our master; we are not slaves to some being hiding in a tree. He is not even a fairy himself and he even let those brutes from the beastmen race into his so called sanctuary.¡± [Crystal] ¡°It is his land, who he lets in is under his control and even if we were not desperate for help we would still be under his rules in this place.¡± [Ember] ¡°And what is that supposed to mean.¡± At this point the ambassador for the dryads spoke up, to explain Crystal¡¯s word and to move the conversation away from the pointless argument. [Christmas Tree] ¡°The being that prefers the title master is connected to all the trees in this part of the forest. From what we have seen he can used them as an extension of his will, which means he can probably see or hear us and if he chooses to he can turn them against us.¡± At her words the pixies instantly became more aware of their surroundings and even the sylphs became slightly nervous, the dryads and nymphs already knew of this fact and so weren¡¯t very surprised. [Christmas Tree] ¡°But even with his current powers there is no point in staying here.¡± [Ember] ¡°See even the dryads agree with me we shouldn¡¯t have to be slaves to someone like him.¡± [Crystal] ¡°Pine, what do you mean by saying there is no point.¡± [Pine] ¡°We have seen his ability to control the trees, but he has no control over other aspects of nature, the soil is weak, there is only a small variety of plants and apart from his immediate vicinity the mana in the area is low. We cannot survive much less thrive in such an environment.¡± At her words the group became depressed apart from Ember who was glad to have her way and Maria who was unaffected by the topic of conversation. Crystal was the first to attempt to speak but was quickly interrupted before a word left her lips. The interruption was caused by a massive gathering of mana to the area; it was as if the forest was preparing to cast a spell. Silence hung over the group as they perceived the mana as it traveled towards were the being called master was situated. Once the flow of mana decreased a pulse of energy was emitted from where the master was located and started expand through his territory. The group was still speechless as the wave traveled towards them, behind the wave everything was renewed with life; the trees looked stronger, the grass looked greener and the air was infused with pure mana. The group continued to observe as the wave passed through them harmlessly while the forest around them was rejuvenated around them. It continued its journey until it reached the beings chosen boundary were it simply dissipated as if all its energy was used up. Observing the aftermath of such an event the small group of fairies could not believe their eyes. POV: Naomi After my talk with the tree, I left the clearing with the children in order to begin preparations for our journey home. For a tree he made sense, as a member of the beastmen race along with being a scout from the rabbit clan it would not be too difficult to find my way home. However that would only count if I was alone, currently I have two children to look after and I¡¯m still recovering from my injury, the bones fixed but the lack of use has left me unable to balance myself correctly. Therefore in my current situation we were not going anywhere fast. He promised to help us once he had sorted the fairies requirement, I found it hard to believe one being besides the Gods could solve all there trouble. He may have solved the issue with those nymphs but the others request I doubted anyone could help them without years of work. But I was proven wrong not only that I started to doubt anything could be a problem for him. While waiting outside the clearing to be recalled by one of the beings servants I could sense a change in the forest as if power was gathering towards its center. I could not even guess what was happening nor could I check for myself as I was comforting the children who could sense something was wrong. Sometime after the gathering started a pulse was created and released from the center, I pulled the children close to me unsure what was happening. I felt the pulse pass us by and I felt no different, then I opened my eyes to a wondrous sight, it was as if the whole forest was reshaped by the same being that created that garden in the center. My sight was drawn to a nearby tree which in mere moments begun to blossom and bear fruit of all kinds. Plant life of all kind started to sprout from the ground; this was the purpose of that pulse earlier. With my sights distracted to my surroundings I failed to notice the beings well-endowed servant approach. To the right of the scared man was a large man but not with muscle like the scarred man but pure fat even his face looked like he stuffed two apples in his cheeks. The fat man carried a simple club for protection but also a monocle which was the source of this nightmare.¡¯ [Fat Man] ¡°Hey guy¡¯s there¡¯s another one over there.¡± [Scarred Man] ¡°Good maybe this one will let us have some fun unlike the last one.¡± ¡®The group approached my hiding place, that damn monocle has revealed there next victim. Scared man approaches a tree and raises his axe ready to begin chopping it down.¡¯ [Scarred Man] ¡°Alright we know you¡¯re in there so come out before things get nasty.¡± ¡®This is it for me; I have already seen them do the same to a number of others already. Some listen to their demands and some stay hidden, either way they end up discarded. He leaned his axe up against a tree before deciding to undo the belt around his trousers. The girl just stood still and waited until the man unleashed what was in his pants. The girl approached him slowly and reached towards what had appeared from the man¡¯s pants. [???] ¡°Can I?¡± The girls question immediately got the man excited and he nodded to her, once she nodded back the man closed his eyes expecting his lower half to feel pleasure. But instead he felt a sudden surge of pain at the back of his neck and his mind faded into darkness forever. The other two men were still impatiently waiting for their turn with the girl when she came forward from the bushes with a few marks on her body. [Crow Nose] ¡°Where¡¯s the boss?¡± [???] ¡°He played too much and fell asleep, so I came for some more fun.¡± Her words got the two men excited; they didn¡¯t even question the answer she gave them. [???] ¡°Who will play with me next?¡± At her words crow nose walked forward, when the fat man looked to deny him the man took out a dagger and pointed it at him. Knowing what this meant the fat man pulled back and went to wait near a tree. Crow nose followed the girl through the bushes his lower half rising in expectation of what¡¯s to come. The girl slowed down to walk next to the man and grabbed his trousers, this excited him even more to the point he didn¡¯t notice the actions she was doing. When they arrived to hideaway crow nose showed a look of surprise at seeing his boss with an axe in the back of his neck. He turned his eyes towards the girl in realization of what happened only to be met with his own daggers being stabbed into his eye sockets. The man recoiled and screamed as the daggers were pulled out but was silenced soon after as the girl lunged towards his throat with the daggers. Back to the fat man, the guy had gotten impatient and was in the middle of doing the deed by himself oblivious to the person dragging a lumberjack axe in her wake. The axe was raised and brought down on the man¡¯s back instantly knocking him to the ground. Lucky for the man while his armor was penetrated his fat kept the axe from breaking his spine. Enraged the man pushed himself up and turned to face his attacker which was the little girl, she had fallen onto her backside after exerting the force on the axe. The man raised his club and bellowed in rage which brought his lucky streak to an end. Smelling the blood and hearing the sound of a wounded animal. Wolves were attracted to the scene a large pack of 12 know surrounded the man. Although his team was weak they were still adventurers and could easily tackle normal wolves. However currently he was injured, alone and this pack was bigger than what they normally faced. The girl retreated back to her tree unhindered by the wolves who begun there attack on the fat man. She rested in her home while observing the wolves as they enjoyed there meal carving every detail into her memory. Aria broke out of her day dreaming when she heard Ellie¡¯s voice. ¡®It has been two days since my rush of power, what do I mean by rush well the fairy king pack was mostly plant upgrades that would take effect over time, Ellie said it would take a year. But that does not apply to me, because of my broken growth ability I can put these upgrades to use straight away. Of course I didn¡¯t apply them to my own body; using my connection to other plants I applied the upgrades to other plant life and the growth ability made the changes instant. With that I know have trees that produce a variety of fruits as well as some trees that literally spew water from their trunks. But that pales in comparison to the mana manipulating abilities I got, as I recall there was sense, absorption, emission and manipulation. Emission and absorption is a natural quality that all intelligent life has, I did not qualify for the natural version somehow. But the gained abilities not only fix that but because of my massive body and link to others I was able to turn every tree in my network into a mana battery. Then we have manipulation which allows me to manipulate the mana I have gathered, normally a life form would have a specific type of mana or a preferred element, not me pure mana for the win. Which brings me to senses which is completely overpowered and a real headache allowing me to sense all mana there is; in the air, the earth, even in people. Now here¡¯s the kicker my mana type is pure mana, I sense all the mana and I can manipulate all mana related to my element which I can sense. Do you get it yet, I effectively have complete control over the mana in my surroundings and with my network that range is this entire forest. Fair to say after receiving these abilities and understanding them I went overboard by changing the entire forest, to everyone else it apparently looked like I released a pulse of pure power, he he.¡¯ ¡®After my power trip I needed to look over my territory and see what happened this is also a good time to check the forest layout. The land I have claimed as mine is a circle with a 200 meter radius; my three guardian nymphs are located close to the perimeter about 10-20 meters in. They act like my watch towers giving me an early warning; Tia the little princess is in the north, Aria the quiet one is south east and hyper Maria is south west. Convenient how their positions are perfect for this setup, anyway moving on all three have a decent number of trees but certain points are focused in each area. The north with Tia has a few rivers and streams flowing through it, Maria is closest to human settlements there is still plenty of distance between us and them but she has less concentration of trees due to being close to the plains and Aria has the highest concentration of trees and plant life you could almost call it a jungle.¡¯ ¡®My burst of power infused everything in this area with mana from the earth to the air except for the water in the streams the free running water quickly diluted it. Every tree on my land now holds an abundance of fruit of all kinds with the familiar ones such as apples on the edge of the perimeter to the more exotic ones closer to the center. Water trees are scattered here and there but are relatively close to the center, the water they produce gathers near the tree¡¯s base making ponds fit for bathing. My new mana powers have allowed me to bend a few natural laws, specifically there is now a concentration of mana surrounding my land acting like a barrier nothing physical more like a feeling telling you not to come here, I also made the water trees release warm water to make baths for the inhabitants. Speaking of all the fairies who came to me for protection are now happily settled in, I have set them up on the edges of my clearing. The nymphs have their homes the dryads now happy with the soil have put down their roots, the fairies are hanging about the water and exotic fruit trees while the sylphs are happy with the shelters I made using roots to create tepee¡¯s. My clearing is now equivalent to a small village with me at the center, Ellie as the chief and the other three as the guards and me, I guess my role is that of a noble or king a village governs itself but the landowner has full authority.¡¯ ¡®There is one thing I haven¡¯t mentioned yet the three bunny-girls, though they have gotten used to their surroundings they still intend to leave and return to their village. While I haven¡¯t located their village a few landmarks I mentioned to the older bunny have caught her interest she can probably find her way home from the information I have shared. The older one has traveled outside my barrier to hunt for meat and fur since not even beasts can approach me now, while the little ones gather fruits and sticks in my territory. The furs were used to make clothing and bags, the meat was smoked to make jerky since fruits only lasts so long and using some coconuts (yes we have coconuts) they made containers for water, too much fruit juice does not go down right. After processing this new information the older beast-girl proceeded to ask her next question. [Older Bunny-girl] ¡°I apologies for our rude behavior, my name is Naomi of the rabbit clan I am 18 years old and am a scout for my village, the one on my left is Snow 7 years old and on my right is Nanami 6 years old.¡± The being took a closer look at the girls now that he could put names to a face, Naomi had brown hair with long brown ears sticking out of her head twitching now and then as if listening for danger, she had amber eyes and a lively shade to her white skin. On her left was Snow who living up to her name had white hair with white rabbit ears that flopped down on both sides of her head, blue eyes and a pale complexion. Thanks to everyone who still reads my story even after my slow releases. POV: Unknown Group At the edge of the forest of wolves a group of five can be seen making their way through the trees. The group dressed in simple light armour mostly of leather with their faces covered by a hood and armed with bows. Expertly passing through the trees the group came to a stop near their objective, at the sudden stop the hood of one member came loose revealing a feminine face with blue eyes, blonde hair in a ponytail and long pointed ears. [Hood 1] ¡°This is the location the elders told us to investigate about an unknown threat to the forest.¡± [Hood 2] ¡°There is definitely something wrong here can you feel it.¡± [Hood 3] ¡°A barrier, non-lethal but definitely powerful for covering such a large area, but this makes me curious.¡± [Hood 1] ¡°Well shall we investigate, the barrier prevents us from using scouting magic due to the barrier but nature magic should be able to bypass it what do you think?¡± [Blonde Ponytail] ¡°If I use my magic to communicate with the surrounding environment I should be able to see what¡¯s up ahead.¡± Closing her eyes in concentration the elf attempted to gain access to the natural forest network not realising she effectively released their location to the object of interest. [Hood 1] ¡°Well, what did you see is there anything we should be worried about?¡± The female opened her eyes with a stunned look on her face, she eventually replied after seeing the group leader¡¯s expression. [Blonde Ponytail] ¡°Nothing.¡± [Hood 1] ¡°That¡¯s strange why would someone create such a barrier for no reason?¡± [Blonde Ponytail] ¡°You don¡¯t understand, my magic didn¡¯t work I can¡¯t communicate with the forest.¡± [Hood 2] ¡°That¡¯s impossible other nature magic users may fight you for control but no one can block it completely.¡± [Blonde Ponytail] ¡°Well I¡¯m telling you the forest is not listening to me im shut out.¡± [Hood 1] ¡°That¡¯s worrying.¡± [Hood 4] ¡°Does anyone feel like the forest is watching us.¡± All members of the group faced the outspoken elf with the same confused expression as if to say, of course the forest is watching us. [Hood 1] ¡°You¡¯re an elf, so why are you asking such stupid questions, as guardians of nature we are aware of natures will.¡± [Hood 4] ¡°I know that, but doesn¡¯t it feel like there is more to these gazes than simply nature will.¡± [Hood 2] ¡°Are you losing it?¡± [Hood 4] ¡°I¡¯m telling something doesn¡¯t feel right.¡± While the four in hoods were having their discussion the blonde turned her eyes to their surroundings and quickly noticed the danger they had unknowingly stumbled upon. Roots poking from the ground and slithering towards them like snakes ready to capture their prey. [Hood 1] ¡°RUN!¡± At their leaders command the group raced back the way they came though the conditions were more threatening than before, roots sprouting from the ground attempting to capture them. The elves for the first time in their long lives experienced what it feels like when the forest is not on your side and it was terrifying. Escaping the barrier the group continued to run until they were a good distance from the forest of wolves. [Hood 2] ¡°What¡­ was that?¡± [Hood 1] ¡°Whatever it was we need to tell the elders, nature turning on its guardians cannot be a good sign.¡± At this point the blonde spoke up with an innocent question but one that would spark a panic from her entire race. [Blonde Ponytail] ¡°What if it spreads?¡± MEANWHILE: The other side of the forest POV: Unknown Group 2 A group of four humans are walking through the forest of wolves, clad in simple leather armour two wielding poor quality swords, one a bow and the only female held a stick. Unlike the elfs this group were unaware of the possible threat the forest now holds and as such strayed right into its den. [Sword 1] ¡°This is ridiculous, we need 10 wolf fur¡¯s to complete a quest and the forest of wolfs should have plenty, but we haven¡¯t seen or even heard any sign of them.¡± [Sword 2] ¡°Maybe there numbers have dropped from overhunting?¡± [Bow] ¡°Possible but it¡¯s not right.¡± [Sword 1] ¡°What are you talking about?¡± [Bow] ¡°Even if the wolfs were overhunted we would still see signs of other animals, but there¡¯s not even a hint of any wildlife.¡± Thinking about what there hunter said the swordsmen failed to realise that his pace started to veer slightly. The second swordsmen followed, the bowman had a weird expression as he followed them only the female with the stick noticed their weird action. [Stick] ¡°Uhm, do you realise you¡¯re walking away from the forest centre?¡± [Swordsman 1] ¡°What are you talking about?¡± [Stick] ¡°You¡¯ve been moving slightly off, didn¡¯t you notice?¡± [Bowman] ¡°She¡¯s right were walking around the centre, I thought something was off.¡± [Swordsman 1] ¡°Well then let¡¯s go see what¡¯s trying to keep us out.¡± The group having decided to travel deeper into the forest were stopped by the sight before them. Roots sprouted from the ground and created a simple thorn barricade to ward them off. [Swordsman 1] ¡°Huh like that will stop us, mage use your fire on them.¡± [Stick] ¡°I don¡¯t think that¡¯s wise.¡± [Swordsmen 1] ¡±Oh right, never mind IL deal with it.¡± The man strolled towards the thorn barricade without any worry in his posture, he raised his sword intending to slash the root but was immediately halted. The roots replying to his aggressive action shot a tendril out and pierced the man in his right shoulder that held the arm with the sword, the arm made a click noise as the tendril withdrew. The man dropped his sword and collapsed on his knees howling in pain at his dislocated shoulder. [Swordsmen 2] ¡°Quick heal him while I distract it.¡± [Bowmen] ¡°No, she can only heal simple cuts and bruises nothing that severe, and you can¡¯t handle that thing. The group grabbed their friend and escaped the forest aiming to get their friend to a healer while also informing the guild of the new threat in the forest. 3 Days Later POV: Returning Elf Group Returning after informing the elders, the elf group was sent back towards the barrier followed by an addition. This elf was dressed in a fine coat with colours ranging from emerald green to glowing silver and wore a crown that appeared to be fashioned from silver branches. He had long blonde hair and blue eyes and a face of silk, his body was tall and thin stereotypical of the elfen race. The group was cautious as they passed the barrier and reached the same place as their last expedition. Roots sprouted from the ground as if to warn them away, but the elfs stood their ground. The smart dressed elf strolled forward with the air of a noble looking down on an insect. He raised his hand to point at the roots as if to command them while wearing a smirk on his face. The roots were unaffected by his attempt, noticing this anger started to creep on the elf¡¯s face and with a wave of his hand the roots were shredded by the winds he conjured. The elf turned to face the group with a smirk on his face. [Smart Elf] ¡°This was the issue you all were prattling about, this hardly requires the assistance of the elders let alone someone like myself. If something won¡¯t follow your commands you simply have to make it obey you with force. (whispering to himself) This was a waste of time, this was supposed to assure my position as a future elder but this will hardly reinforce my claim.¡± [Hooded Elf] ¡°Umm, sir.¡± The hooded elf pointed behind the smartly dressed elf as if to warn him of the root slowly rising from the ground with something in its grasp, the smart elf turned to face what the hooded elf was pointing at with arrogance in his step. [Smart Elf] ¡°What are you snivelling abou (CRUNCH) ugh¡­¡± Before the elf could finish his sentence he had already turned to face the root only to be met with a plant version of a dropkick right into the elfs family jewels. The root pulled away while dropping what it had in its grasp, the elf group realised it was a rock. The smart elf who had just received the blow teetered on the spot for a moment before his eyes rolled back and he fell backwards like a falling tree (TIMBER). The elfs quickly dragged the smart elf away before any more roots started to assault them leaving behind a disturbed patch of grass with a wet patch in its centre and a few speck of blood. Girlish giggling could be heard on the wind as well as a vibrating hum that came from the trees almost like laughing. 4 Days Later POV: Unknown Human Group Four shadows racing through the forest; darting through leaves, jumping from branch to branch; all heading towards a single goal. The group came to a stop at the edge of the invisible barrier contemplating their next move. Unlike the last human group they were not amateurs that stumbled upon the unknown, they were experienced adventures who had performed many requests for the guild. Their current request by the guild was to look into the mysterious accounts about the forest of wolves and to report back about what they found. All group members wore black cloaks to hide their profession from others, the group moved quickly and silently suited for scouting the unknown. Nodding at each other the group had decided to enter the barrier to search for these moving roots that they have heard about. They were not disappointed and were met with a physical barrier of roots blocking their path. Not wanting to waste time one of the cloaked figures drew a sword with a long needle like blade and a round guard that covers the fingers (sabre). With a quick motion the figure cut the roots to ribbons allowing the group to continue forward. The roots returned more aggressive than before attempting to grasp, knock over or even impale. Still the group continued avoiding the roots with quick footwork that the attacker could not respond to. Eventually the group came to a stop by their first real obstacle, a young wearing a skirt of leaves with green hair and eyes was staring at the group. Realising they were being blocked the figure with the sword stepped forward with her blade faced forward at a slight upwards angle. The green girl raised a wooden club and leapt forward to attack the intruders who had invaded her home. Standing ready the figure prepared his strategy to take out this being, waiting patiently the cloaked figure leapt to the left as the girl brought her club down which managed to leave a decent dent in the earth. The cloaked figure became wary though slow and inexperienced this girl had enough strength to break bones. Deciding to end this quickly the cloaked figure thrust forward with his sword as the girl recovered intending to pierce her heart. It was deflected, as the blade neared the girls¡¯ flesh a root shot from the ground and parried the attack skywards. With the opening provided the girl charged and swung her club into the figures right side sending him flying into a tree. The sound of the collision was deafening as the cloaked group realised this girls strength and link to the moving roots. Recovering from the collision the figure now held his blade weakly in his right hand. Another figure from the group charged forward with the fencer, the new figure brought out two daggers and wielded one in each hand. The two struck as one but all three blades were parried allowing the girl to once again swing her club, this time towards the dual wielder. The fighting continued but no one came close to victory the attacking figures could not get through the roots while the girl could not hit her agile opponents after they learnt from their first mistake. Eventually the group decided to split up, the two fighting would remain as a distraction while the other two went ahead. Their job was scouting not extermination while the girl was strong she did not pose a threat to those who could dodge, but they could waste no more time especially if the roots could block all four of them. The two remaining figures continued until seeing another figure approaching, another girl this one was more endowed than the other girl and had a brighter green to her eyes and long hair. Keeping their distance the two wanted to observe how she would react, big mistake. The new girl raised her hand and roots rose in a circle around them attempting to cage them. Moving quickly the two leapt out of the cage as it closed, one of the two rushed forward towards the girl with his fists raised revealing himself as a martial artist. His intention to push the girl mage into close range fighting was halted as once again roots came from the ground and shielded the girl. The girl then tore leaves from her dress and tossed them at the fighter; the leaves glowed with green aura and accelerated towards the figure. Acting on instinct the fighter jumped back only suffering a slight cut as one of the leaves brushed by his arm. This was getting problematic for the cloaked group they have met two being in this forest one a mage and one a berserker, normally they would not last against the group alone but the passive root defenses were difficult to counter especially when the cause is unknown. The fighter nodded to the last figure signalling him to continue, the figure started to run past the girl but this time there was a response from their opponent. Jumping back the running figure avoided the deadly leaves by a small margin. This reaction was all the two needed to know, the fighter rushed his attack with more conviction drawing attention away from his teammate as they went forward to see what it was the girls were defending. Continuing to run the lone cloaked figure noticed a clearing ahead, reaching its edge the figure focused his sights ahead. A giant tree with white bark and pink leaves stood in the center of the clearing with a group of girls at its base. The figure could identify the girls as members of the fairy race but what about the tree. He was unsure about its purpose until it responded personally, in a quick movement the figure was knocked on his back, looking up he saw a single root much thicker than previously seen come crashing towards him. Jumping to the side the figure avoided an untimely demise only to see more roots breaking through the soil and attacked him with the ferocity of a wild beast. Making the connection the figure made his escape back to his team while being followed by erupting roots seeking to end his life. Reaching the location of his teammate battling the mage, the two made eye contact before looking at his back and seeing the erupting forest before deciding to leave. Back towards their other two teammates who were fighting the first girl, the two fighters noticed their returning comrades and the new threat and decided to retreat. Continuing to flee the group was chased by angry roots even after passing the barrier only after reaching the edge of the forest near the plains did the roots stop. With the new information the group returned to the guild; with a story, new dangers and new name for the forest with a hidden fairy hideout ¡®The Living Forest¡¯. Chapter 16: Fill em up POV: Mystical Sakura ¡®Well that was disappointing; humans, elves and even my nymph guardians were hopeless in combat, or was I expecting too much. Looking back over my encounters the past week let¡¯s try to analyze the events, no doubt they will send more so I need to learn what I can from these encounters even if I crushed them. First we have the elves, twice they attempted to breach my barrier and both times they fled after encountering minimum resistance from my part. Their first time I can assume they were a scouting party whose purpose was to gather information, while they didn¡¯t seem high rank they moved as if they had a goal. They were able to penetrate the barrier but fled before I even initiated any sort of combat, I will assume the information about sentient trees was enough for them at the time.¡¯ ¡®The second encounter with this species they came with an elf dressed in brighter coloured and more comfortable looking clothing. I was confused at first as he advanced towards me without the others however the next thing I saw definitely grabbed my attention. Mana was flowing, he was using magic but whatever he was attempting did not seem to happen as anger creased his face when the mana flow stopped. The mana flow came again only this time it controlled the winds and shredded some of my roots, fair to say that angered me and when he turned away in his arrogance I paid him in kind. They left soon after dragging the man behind them, taking from that experience I learned what wind spells look like and assuming his first outburst of mana was nature magic. It didn¡¯t really look impressive more like he released his mana without giving it a purpose kind of like I¡¯m doing to permeate air with mana for my new residents.¡¯ ¡®Next we have the encounter with the humans, their first encounter almost didn¡¯t happen as I could see them moving along my border kept back by my barrier. That is until they stopped for a moment before coming straight towards me, I decide to test them with my little barrier to gauge their reactions. Overconfident at first which let me get an easy hit but they quickly wised up and fled knowing their limits. I¡¯m giving them the benefit of a doubt that they left because they were smart and not just cowards as if that were the case they would probably have left their friend behind.¡¯ ¡®My next encounter with the humans I decided to let my nymphs have a go defending, good news I learned a valuable lesson early before any serious assaults. Seriously it was like looking at children fighting, Maria while being strong enough to crush her attacker could not touch her opponent. Ellie was not any better though in hindsight I did kind of ask for a magic user to be on the front-lines, when the group reached the clearing I decided enough was enough and chased them off.¡¯ ¡®I¡¯m not too disappointed this was a test anyway for the nymphs and to gauge the strength of my opponents this was the first group that made any real attempt at an attack even if it was simply to scout the area. With the results in I now need to strengthen my forces; the nymphs need more nutrients and perhaps a way to test themselves, my nutrient generation needs to be boosted and I should probably add some more action related skills to my repertoire.¡¯ ¡®First order of business my current stats, haven¡¯t really checked the whole thing for a while now.¡¯

I could add more or increase the level of the ones I currently have, I also need to think about a skill to stretch my own reach currently I have the clearing under my personal control but the rest is held via proxy of other trees.¡¯ ¡®Start with the costs, a new root costs just 10N but needs double that amount for each level up, at level 5 that¡¯s 310N each. To extend the reach of my current roots that¡¯s 31000N which is ¡­ surprisingly affordable.¡¯

Now on to my guardians, if Ellie¡¯s experience was anything to go by then their first power boost should be easy. That said I also need to talk with them about their power, for a being with weak in their stats there power could crush the best from my original world. Against this worlds fighters I¡¯m not entirely sure they only battled one human scout group and no one actually got hurt in that battle. Ellie did take out those wolves but they were considered weak as well able to be handled by normal townspeople in the right circumstances. Perhaps that is what I need to focus on, a civilian with some training as a hunter is more likely to survive than a new adventurer, basically my guards need experience.¡¯ ¡®Looking over them they have already started to focus towards a type of combat profession. Tia uses various poisons with different methods of delivery, Maria has focused on brute strength but nothing else really definition of muscle head. Aria is a manipulator, kind of like a puppet master she can use her magic infused words to control things like the trees around her, except me of course. Ellie focused on magic but apparently her nature magic was limited to simple attack spells like spike grass, root strike and leaf dart. Since she got an upgrade to a lesser nature spirit her magic has become more potent and deadly not that it wasn¡¯t deadly before.¡¯ ¡®Which brings me to this class system they have, unlike other sentient creatures that get classes like archer, warrior the typical RPG classes. Fairies have a fixed class when their formed and it behaves like a jack of all trades however the advantage is its ability to evolve. Unlike other sentient races when fairies reach a certain level they have an increase in power followed up with a class upgrade and a change in appearance. This is similar to how monsters and beasts get stronger, when I asked the nymphs they were unsure but my theory is that they are more primal that the other sentient creatures. Take Earth history as an example around the time of the dinosaurs creatures were always adapting and changing to the environment. But sentient creatures like humans don¡¯t adapt to the environment they change it to suit them. Now when I said before that a member of the other sentient races can¡¯t get dramatic changes that might have been incorrect, they can it just takes more effort for them than it would a fairy, effort they aren¡¯t usually willing to give. I am told these power increases do not have a limit it is just hard to achieve heck it took Aria who is the closest to achieving it naturally 322 years to get where she is, lucky for them I have a shortcut.¡¯ ¡®Ellie would you bring the other nymph guardians to the clearing.¡¯ Couple of minutes later a group of four nymphs arrived still as indistinguishable as last time except for the leader with long hair and big assets. Ellie was standing at the side gazing down at her fellow guardians recalling her own situation then looking towards the sakura tree. ¡®Don¡¯t think I have forgotten about you, you will need some extra care and nourishment to grow, I really am an evil bastard. Transfer 35000N to Ellie, yes I agree to the transaction.¡¯ When the words spoken finally reached Ellie and her face gained a look of surprise she collapsed in a heap shaking and moaning with pleasure. The noises which escaped their bodies drew attention from some of the other fairies in the clearing. The stares grew as light started to escape from their bodies signifying their growth to the next level. ¡®And there goes the automatic censorship. I actually felt something that time, maybe I¡¯m not completely neutured.¡¯ Chapter 17: Plant Loadout POV: Mystical Sakura ¡®Well that was fun while it lasted, after the nymphs got an upgrade I was immediately bombarded by questions from the other fairies about what happened. After answering them it was obvious which question would come up next, well that¡¯s what I thought but I wasn¡¯t too far off the mark. The pixie with flame coloured hair that I¡¯ve taken to calling matchstick demanded that I advance her class. I told her I could only do it if she swore her loyalty to me, really I¡¯m not very sure but this is how I¡¯m going to do it. Of course she did not take too kindly to that statement and left the clearing leaving behind what I¡¯m assuming are curses from a pixie¡¯s perspective. They included a lot about my lack of sparkles and that I wasn¡¯t pink enough, how should I react to that, I¡¯m mostly curious as to how she thinks that will affect me.¡¯ ¡®Moving on the four nymphs who I helped to advance now have different appearances, honestly I thought the three guardians would look exactly like Ellie since all low rank nymphs look the same. While they do resemble one another there not identical anymore but could still pass as triplet sisters. Maria has short spiky green hair and her features seem to have changed to match her cheery and cocky attitude, with big round eyes and a grinning smile. Her clothes have changed from a leaf one piece skirt into pants and sports bra which is doing a good job of keeping those assets of hers in check not quite up to Ellie¡¯s size but decent oranges. She also grew a little not by much; if I were to think of the standard nymph as 10 years old then Maria is about 12 early stages of puberty. Tia confirming my suspicion has grown to resemble a young princess with long smooth hair reaching her knees (still green) and strict features containing straight eyebrows, oval eyes and puckered lips. Dress is still a one piece though its length has gone below the knee only revealing her feet. Height¡­ well she got shorter (8 years old) and somehow her bust decreased from buttons to a board, happy days for some people out there in the world. Lastly we have Aria, who has no changes apart from her face which has a more calculative expression like she¡¯s plotting something. Her lack of change in the body department could be to trick her opponents; they would never know she has evolved.¡¯ ¡®Finally we have Ellie who has changed the most out of the group, but considering what rank she has reached that shouldn¡¯t be a surprise. She has grown taller and no longer resembles a child but a teenager I would guess around 15-16, her chest still carries those melons. Overall I would say she has matured assuming this pattern continues her next upgrade would make her look like an adult. I do hope we don¡¯t have to deal with Ellie going through a rebellious phase because of her appearance. Let¡¯s see what the status screen has to say about these new improvements.¡¯

All there levels are low but after a rank up it¡¯s expected, except for Aria but she had almost reached the maximum level on her own so the extra points I gave her just carried over. With their new bodies I probably should have them train a bit, I have no doubt that we will see some intruders in the near future I¡¯m expecting the elves but humans are also a possibility. I probably should look into increasing my own attack power I haven¡¯t got any real attack skill. My roots can be used for improvised punches but are not actual weapons my passive skill steel roots just makes them harder to damage and break. As for my mana manipulation skills although I was originally hopeful I can¡¯t use my skills like I wanted. I can move mana, focus it into an area or take it away but I can¡¯t take away another¡¯s mana only reduce the amount a person can absorb and slightly sabotage some of the mana heavy spells, support stuff really. This means I will have to buy more skills, status screen please search for attack skills.¡¯

Shocking the 4 nymph spectators that have recently recovered the final attack left a large dent in the earth. Withdrawing all but one of his roots, the root then grew a flower bud which split in half revealing rows of sharp canine teeth with a leaf tongue. With the communication barrier now gone the other beings present in my territory wanted to discuss what will happen to them. Of course I cleared up any misunderstanding they had, can¡¯t have another person calling my gender into question now can I. My ability to speak has also opened new opportunities I could now talk to my recent servants about future endeavours such as expanding, looking for more of their race and boosting their abilities for them to become my guardians. Haven¡¯t got an answer from them yet but I know they are considering it from the conversation I¡¯ve overheard but are weary of suffering the same fate as their last home, got that from the arguments.¡¯ ¡®Moving on to my abilities, I have been training both old and new to better understand my combat potential my recent additions have definitely increased that value. Root combat style effectively increases my damage output since it is now considered an attack. Don¡¯t know how it works but apparently it¡¯s this planet natural law, if I were to create an example imagine as if it were a VRMMO. Two people cross paths when one of them suddenly raises there arm and hits the other by accident there was no intent but the hit still had power so minus 10HP. But say if these two meet and one punches the other with intent the game would accept this as a unarmed combat move increasing the damage minus 35HP (don¡¯t think many use unarmed combat in MMO¡¯s if at all). Chompers are pretty much what they say on the tin or in this case ability description, they are flower buds that open and bite at the enemy like savage flytraps. Things I have noticed about them include the obvious speech but also it seems I have a bit of variety when it comes to growing them. Currently I have been able to change their mouth structure from splitting in half to splitting four ways like a mandible or going the opposite direction have the bud open as if a hole was growing on its surface. The teeth also have a variety from small hair like to comical you know the ones you see on predator cartoon animals, I tell you seeing an actual piranha plant eating a meal is gruesome. This world has a ranking system for individuals though each race has their own code for their version of this system the results are the same for each race, this is due to it being dangerous to overestimate yourself or underestimate your opponent. But no instead of experienced soldiers or at least decent fighters he gets two young nobles with a disillusioned view of war, the only thing they want is a quick rise in the ranks. We are the rulers of nature we should not have to fear some second rate trick artist.¡± [Advisor 2] ¡°While I would not word it like that it is true that this mage could not have too much power as only elfs can wield nature. However this mage has managed it probably requires a lot of resources and even then his powers will undoubtedly be weak. I¡¯m more worried that he will flee while we sit here, we should strike before he can escape.¡± [Elf General] ¡°I have heard your opinions but I will not risk my soldiers on what your bias mind believes to be an easy victory. Might fool some weak humans or animals but the average elf can see and pass it with a minor headache at worse from the large mana in the air, now come on we need to find this fool of a mages hiding place.¡± [Scout Group] ¡°Yes sir!¡± Advancing further into the forest the elves continued their search unaware that the new ruler of this patch of the forest heard everything that was said between the group members and couldn¡¯t help but smile to himself. The arrogance of the elves has made them extremely sloppy they utilise spells to quiet their steps and hide their mana presence but don¡¯t think to check the environment for foreign entities. If they did their spell would be sounding alarms all over the place for while they believe themselves to be completely hidden to the forest their about as stealthy as a man in a mirror maze. [Scout Elf 2] ¡°Sir the forest is changing up ahead I think the natural order has been tainted?¡± [Scout Leader Elf] ¡°I see it trees with more than one kind of fruit while it may seem harmless the variation is too different to be natural, we will have to isolate and burn this part of the forest to eliminate the abominations this mage has created. While they might be beneficial only we elves have the authority and wisdom to manipulate nature, even then the benefits should be for us only as the guardians of these forests.¡± [Scout Elf 1] ¡°Sir there looks like a clearing up ahead.¡± [Scout Leader Elf] ¡°Good looks like these abominations have not spread to far yet less forest to burn down. Advance towards the clearing but stay to the tree line our mission is to scout not kill even if this is too easy.¡± Looking out at the clearing the scout group could see a group of humanoids gathering around a tree at the centre. They first focused on the tree which was a sight to behold a pure white healthy trunk leaving the ground and reaching towards the sky were its branches spread out decorated in beautiful pink petals. Pixies, sylphs, dryads and nymphs all pests who claim themselves to be a part of nature when only elves can claim that title. With this information, all the minute details suddenly made sense to the scout leader, these pests have decided to make a stand against those who seek to maintain order as such their objective was clear the annihilation of this new fairy nest. [Unknown Pixie] ¡°I knew this would happen! [Fairy Group] ¡°Yes master.¡± Clearly the leader of this group who remained unknown had tired of the argument and brought his followers to an agreement without the elves hearing anything which was worrying. But not as much as the ground beneath them erupting in soil and roots, the elves were unprepared for such an attack they had been spotted but by who and what magic was he using to attack them. [Scout Leader Elf] ¡°Retreat to the main group we must get the information to the general and his advisors.¡± The elves escaped their perceived attacker and fled towards the main group waiting just outside the barrier to share what they had learned. While their silent observer contemplated current and future events regarding his would-be attackers and traitors to his god. ¡®The baits been set and they have little to no information on my abilities too interested in what¡¯s before them, now I need to deal with these other groups before the main party arrives can¡¯t have them getting to confident now can we.¡¯ POV: Elf Scout Group 2 Meanwhile as the first group is making their discovery the second scout group will make a discovery of their own. Advancing under the cover of their silencing spells the elves reached a part of the forest were the trees start to thin slightly creating the perfect place for an ambush. [Scout Elf 1] ¡°Uuuhhh sir are you sure it¡¯s wise to go into an area that¡¯s clearly suitable for an ambush point?¡± [Scout Leader Elf] ¡°And what do you suppose is going to ambush us ¡­ rabbits, the enemy were about to face is worse than bandits at least they had some people on guard even if they are likely to be asleep instead of watching.¡± [Scout Elf 1] ¡°But sir can¡¯t you feel it, there is something out there watching us we should¡­¡± [Scout Leader Elf] ¡°That¡¯s just paranoia even if there were some warning system set up we would now and act accordingly other than your worrying there is no evidence that we are being watched.¡± [Scout Elf 2] ¡°There¡¯s a girl watching us over there.¡± [Scout Leader Elf] ¡°What are you talking abou¡­¡± The conversation was brought to a halt when every member of the scout group finally noticed the young girl looking at them from atop one of the nearby trees on the edge of the clearing, it took a moment before the scout groups leader could finally speak his thoughts. [Scout Leader Elf] ¡°You there what are you doing here?¡± [Aria] ¡°I am Aria a nature spirit under the command of the king of this forest.¡± She¡¯s pretty forthcoming with the information thought the scouts leader, she¡¯s either na?ve of our purpose here or just stupid. The elves didn¡¯t even consider the idea that there was a third option behind this girl¡¯s action. [Scout Elf 1] ¡°You do realise we are here to kill the king you follow right (whisper: stupid fairies)¡± [Aria] ¡°That¡¯s why I was ordered to kill you.¡± The elves were caught off guard at first due to the unexpected answer before smiles started to appear on their lips only to quickly fade into surprise again at the scene around them. The trees surrounding the clearing moved and expanded spreading out and wrapping their branches together creating a wall the treetops then spread their branches upwards and across to meet at the centre of the clearing creating a dome entrapment. The elves finally realising their situation immediately attempted to escape while the dome started to compact inwards. Their magic was useless spells broke against the wooden barriers as their mana was drained, their weapons were pointless breaking as soon as they impacted the bark, their fates were sealed as the dome crushed all inside with a series of agonising screams, cracking bones and blood flowing, lots of blood flowing. POV: Elf Scout Group 3 Meanwhile the final scout group found their way into what appeared to be an orchid with many trees bearing strange never before seen fruit. [Scout Elf 1] ¡°Sir what is this?¡± [Scout leader Elf] ¡°The upstart probably grew these for a steady food supply I doubt they grew naturally.¡± One of the elves attempted to pick one of the fruits struggling to separate it from a branch only succeeding in bringing it close to his face. [Scout Elf 2] ¡°Do you think we can eat these fruits?¡± The group¡¯s thoughts were drawn away from this question when an answer came from the unknown. [???] ¡°On earth you eat fruits.¡± The group was drawn to the source of the comment only to stare when they found it, the unknown fruit had a split going through its centre which opened to expose sharp teeth and a large in proportion to its body tongue. [???] ¡°In Floeria fruits eat you.¡± At that comment the fruit seemed to leap out of the elfs hand and bit down on his face, panic ensued as the elf group was forced to defend themselves from the orchid as more fruits exposed their teeth and attempted to eat them. The scout¡¯s leader made a break for it seeking to warn the general about the horrors held within this forest only to trip and fall face first to the ground. As the leader looked up he came face to face with another one of those fruits but one that rivalled himself in size and appeared to be making a smirk with its mouth, staring mouth agape the fruit spoke. [???] ¡°Mmm mm I think its supper time.¡± At those words the fruit opened wide and raised its body to be directly above the elfs prone form, the elf could only blink before the fruit came down with a chomp taking the elf and a chunk of earth into its mouth before starting to chew with a smile on its face.
