Ryan, a 97 year old Magic Researcher from the Kingdom of Indiesa, had never been so vexed before. If he were to said that his understanding about magic was only ranked second in the world, then there would be no one who dares to claim the first ranked position.
Yet currently, he was facing the biggest challenge ever since he began researching magic.
Born as a commoner in a poor family, Ryan have no affinities whatsoever with any elements of magic in the world. He felt envious for those magus that could freely control elements to their liking and lived their unfettered lives.
Fueled by his envy, he began to trod the path of magic as an apprentice magic researcher at his teens by leaving his family and worked hard at the kingdom''s capital.
At first, his ultimate goal was to become one of those noble and respected magus, for that was the best and fastest way to get rich and famous. Anyway, what kind of man had never dreamed of getting surrounded by their wealth and a flock of beautiful women?
As time goes by, however, his ultimate goal slightly differed from his original one. The more he learned about magic, the more fascinated he became.
Enormous amount of fame and fortune had continuously came as his research results got recognized more and more, and by the time he realized, Ryan had been acknowledged as the one with the best understanding of magic in the world, save for the fact that he himself was unable to use magic.
Never once did he stopped his research other than the time when he mourned the death of his parent, thus it was not wrong to say that all his life was dedicated to his research of magic, so much that he could instantly understand the logic behind any spell he saw.
And that was the thing that troubled him so much currently. He could understand any magic. At least, he thought he could.
"Hmm... "
Looking at the palm-sized, ever-changing blob of light in front of him, Ryan couldn''t help but frowned. He doesn''t understand, what might be wrong in his theory.Love this story? Find the genuine version on the author''s preferred platform and support their work!
"No, my theory shouldn''t be wrong," murmured Ryan. His voice sounds old and tired, yet the pride and his self-confidence could also be clearly felt.
"If I succeeded, then I should''ve been able to wield magic by controlling this custom-made elemental."
Just as he was about to once again activate the complex-looking magic formation that he had previously installed in his basement room, a small, quivering voice called out from one corner of the room.
"M-master, I think... y-you should''ve stopped doing this... ritual? I -I mean, this is clearly not the realm of magic anymore, but... " a beautiful woman in her twenties fearfully advised her master as she watched on, but Ryan cut her words short.
"Hush, of course I know it, I am trying to create a life, after all. This is the realm of creation, the divine domain of God. If we goes by the words of those Church''s bunch, a taboo it is. " Ryan waved his hand in a leisure manner as he said nonchalantly. Then he proceeded to activate the formation as he said, "It''s too bad, I''m not a believer though. "
As the magic formation began to lit, the whole basement began to tremble hard. From the outside, however, there''s no sign of anything happening as all the trembling were contained within the basement, courtesy of a custom-made barrier by Ryan. Even the strongest magus wouldn''t feel anything other than the flow of mana of the whole continent getting thinner for no apparent reason...
...
Strange stuff began to occur for magicians across the continent.
...
"Burn my opponent to ash, Hellfi... re? What the hell, why is it bean-sized!? "
...
"F#@/, why is it that my flying sword suddenly getting unstable? Oh? I''m falling? EEEYAAAAAKKK!? "
...
"W-w-why is my wife turned to macho guy all of a sudden!? "
"My illusion magic!? Ah, husband, I can explain this, you see... "
"noooOOOOOO!?!?"
...
Back in the basement.
Ryan''s old body shivered in excitement as he could clearly felt the newly built connection between himself and the blob... no, his elemental!
The beautiful woman in the back stared blankly at the scene with mouth agape.
''He succeeded? Master really succeeded in creating a new life? Just by relying on his magic formation!?''
"Gohahaha, as I thought, my theory is perfect, after all!" Ryan shed happy tears as he thought back about all his hardships until now.
He was about to reach his ultimate goal of wielding magic to his liking!
Yet as he was reminiscing about the past, he could feel something terribly wrong happening to him.
The world around him suddenly twisted as he barely saw an old body, possibly his own body, collapsed on the floor, before everything turns black.

these would be explained in the later chapters but im just gonna put a small glossary here anyway.
magus : a mage, someone who could use magic
magic researcher : an occupation which focused on researching everything about magic
mana : supernatural energy of the world, needed to use magic
elements : a certain element of magic, could be fire, water, or so on

magic formation : a formation to use, well... magic. the user could activate it by providing external energy to the formation, so the user isn''t necessarily a magus

As she watched the sorry figure of her master collapsing on the floor, Selvi had immediately regained her clarity.
"Master!" she shouted in fright.
When she tried to move her body closer to Ryan to see what exactly had happened to him, Selvi instead found out that her body was unable to bulge an inch from her current location.
"The mana is... overflowing, kugh..."
In the middle of the room, the strange ''elemental'' ignored everything that was happening and just continued absorbing everything with glee.
Enormous amount of mana from all over the world, imbued with countless different elements were gathered in one point.
While Ryan''s body showed no sign of reaction, the same thing couldn''t be said for Selvi. Her whole body flushed red as unimaginable pain wrecked everything from her top to bottom, as if she was going to explode to pieces.
''...no, at this point, I really am going to explode! Too much mana has gathered inside my body, I had to let them out before it can blow up... uegh... ''
Though Ryan was someone who was unable to use magic as he wished for, Selvi could be said to be a natural at controlling magic. She was a bit... dimwit, however.
"Gaaaaahhhh! Body Enhancements : Increase Strength, Increase Endurance, Increase Vitality, Increase Agility! Blessing : Mental Defense Resistance Up, Debuff Resistance Up, Pain Resistance Up..."
In her panicked state, she used myriad self buffing spells to alleviate the pain on her body, which she succeeded in doing so, though...Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
"Muh...!?"
...her body inflated so much it turned as round as a ball. Forget about moving, she couldn''t even speak anymore.
As there were so much more mana than the usual, the magic she had used would obviously gives out effect several times higher than normal, and her frail body couldn''t withstand it.
''In hindsight, I should''ve used a strong offense spell to destroy the magic formation and stop the rushing mana, but hey, I was not in the right state of mind, alright!?''
Selvi cried bitterly in her heart. Now that the pain was no more, she began to feel like she had made a stupid choice before. She could also imagine that if her master was currently not lying unconscious in the floor, he would''ve done a facepalm and starts lecturing her all day long about various different, better ways to solve her current situation.
''Aiya... forgive me master, it''s just that I feel so sleepy right now... no more lectures, um...''
Right before she closed her eyes, she barely saw that the strange ''elemental'' in the middle of the room began to move closer to her body, apparently reacting to her magic.
''It''s dangerous,'' she thought.
Yet...
''I don''t care anymore...''
''It''s so comfy here...''
''Good night... mas... ter... ''
Then her body was swallowed whole by the ''elemental''.
***
Several minutes after the sudden disappearances of mana from all over the world, a huge magical explosion happened in one corner of the world.
Several magus had confirmed that the source of the explosion, which had decimated everything within 700 kilometer of the source, including several villages, town, and rainforest, were originated from a (former) mansion of Sage Ryan.
As the news were being spread out, countless people began to connect the dots and were trying to get a confirmation from the Sage himself, yet for an unknown reason, the Sage and his trusted assistant had disappeared without leaving a single trace.
The Sage''s fame was also on it''s lowest point since people began to blame him for this huge disaster.
It was estimated that the magic society will be thrown backwards for several hundreds years as most of the magic artifact and high tiered spells were rendered useless due to insufficient mana of the world.
If Ryan were to know that all of this happening were due to his own effort, he would''ve cried injustice.
"This old man here just wanted to use some magic, why is this getting blown up everywhere!?"
