《The Cursed Throne》 Prologue Prologue It was a rainy night. In a dark alley somewhere, a boy of about the age 6-7 was lying there, covered in blood. He was injured so seriously that he could die at any moment now. Surrounding him was a group of 5-6 teenagers. Their ages were roughly around 17-18. Just take one look, and you could tell that they were bad news. With dyed hair and piercings, they were what you called delinquents. He had blonde hair, and somewhat of a scary face. He seems to be the leader of this small group. ¡°That is, if you can live till the next time.¡± Another guy who was a bit short said while sneering. ¡°Hahaha!¡± They laughed loudly and looked at the boy lying in the pool of blood with cruelty in eyes. ¡°Boss, there is nothing to do here, we might as well leave, before anyone comes and see us.¡± A guy standing in the back said with somewhat of a cautious voice.If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it''s taken without permission from the author. The ¡®Boss¡¯ replied while sneering, ¡°There¡¯s no need to be afraid. This kid is just a poor beggar with no background whatsoever. On top of that he¡¯s also an orphan. So we don¡¯t need to worry about someone looking for him.¡± He then laughed loudly and with a last look at the boy lying covered in blood, he turned around to leave as everyone else followed him. ¡°Let''s go! I don¡¯t want to be labeled as a murderer, so i will spare his life.¡± The ¡®Boss¡¯ said this as he was a very merciful person to spare his life. After they left, there was nothing other than the unceasing sound of thunder and the heavy rain. The boy stayed motionless like a corpse. It would be no wonder if someone mistook him to be dead. The rainwater slowly washed the blood from his clothes and face. He was a very cute boy with black hair and pale white skin which was smooth like that of a girl. If you look closely, you will see that even after taking such a cruel beating, the boy was not unconscious. He slowly opened his eyes. His eyes were deep blue in color. Just like that of a clear ocean. As he saw the delinquents walking away, he said with somewhat difficult but strong voice, ¡°If I survive, one day, I will make you pay for this.¡± As he said this, he slowly fell into a deep sleep, from which he might not wake up ever again. Chapter 1 Scott Barney was just a normal policeman. Today was his turn to go on Patrol. It¡¯s been two years since he got transferred to City Z¡¯s police station. Previously he was at the headquarters in city S, but because he offended one of the senior officers there, he was transferred over to this small city. And even here his position was not very high. As he was not a local, most of his colleagues treated him with indifference. He truly had a difficult life. Thinking of all this, Scott sighed with sadness. When he passed the exam and was accepted in the police force, he thought his time is finally here. He always wanted to serve the country wholeheartedly. But after he joined, everything was different than he thought. There was no one who was seriously trying to do their job. They will just ignore the small cases, or take some commission to study the individual¡¯s case first. It was beyond his thinking. At first he tried to do justice and solve things with fairness. But it soon became meaningless. It doesn¡¯t matter what crime it was, as long as they have a good enough background they will get away with just a small warning. Although he cursed the unfairness at first, but he got used to it soon after. This is how the things work, no matter what this is the way of the world. He told himself, and carried on with his life. As Scott was thinking all this, he just happened to pass by a dark alley. As it was still raining and it was still night time he couldn¡¯t see clearly, but he could still see a vague small shadow lying at the edge of the ally. He hurriedly stopped his car, and went over to check. There he saw a boy barely 7 years old, lying there in a horrible condition. The boy was in a very bad state. Just one look at him and you can tell that someone had cruelly beaten him up. As he checked the boy, he found that he still had a breath left in him. He hurriedly picked him up, as there was no time to call the ambulance he just put him in the back seat of the car and drove to the hospital. He soon reached the city hospital. He quickly called for a stretcher and the boy was taken to the emergency ward. When doctor saw his condition, he was shocked as he said, ¡°Who can do such a horrible thing to such a little kid? It¡¯s a good thing that he is still alive. Otherwise, with so much blood loss it¡¯s almost impossible to be alive.¡± ¡°I have no idea. I found him lying at the edge on an alley. He was lucky, that I arrived at the time, otherwise¡­¡± Scott replied with a bit of relief. Now that he knew that the boy was alive, he felt relieved. At the same time he felt anger at the person who beat him up so badly that he almost died. He resolved himself to catch these people, no matter the price. Although he has already given up to try and do justice, but that doesn¡¯t mean that the hot blooded dream is dead. He still dreams of beating up villains and providing justice to civilians. The boy was taken to the operation theater while Scott waited for the doctor to come out. After a while, Doctor came out with a serious look on his face. He said, ¡°Although his life is not in danger anymore, he still lost too much blood. I can¡¯t say if he will wake up or not. And even if he did he will probably be traumatized by the event he went through today.¡± ¡°By the way, do you have any idea where might his parents be? Judging from the clothes he was wearing, he¡¯s probably from some poor household. Is it possible?¡± Scott asked as he looked at the doctor to see if there was any change in his expression. Although on surface, he looked like a nice Old Man, he was still a member of modern society. And most of the people in the modern society won¡¯t do anything for someone without any benefit. If he was thatkind of person he will probably throw the boy out first thing in the morning. But contrary to the expectation of Scott, Doctor said, ¡°Well, it goes against the rules to do this. But I can¡¯t leave a little kid like this to die. We will see his treatment till the end.¡± Scott was surprised by the answer. ¡®This old man is a good person¡¯ he thought to himself. He thanked the doctor and went back to the station to check if there was report about a missing child whose description matched the boy. Unfortunately, he couldn¡¯t find anyone in the city records who matched the boy. Scott felt it was strange. But he didn¡¯t mind it too much, and continued the search. But, even after looking around for three days, he wasn¡¯t able to find any information related to the boy. Dejected, he went to the hospital to check on the boy. Just when he entered the room, he found him looking out of the window. When he was injured, Scott didn¡¯t pay too much attention to his face because it was an emergency. But now that he looked at him clearly, he found that this boy was too beautiful. Yes beautiful, that was probably the only way to describe his looks. With black hair, deep blue eyes and fair skin. If he took proper care of himself, he will definitely be extremely handsome in future. While Scott was studying the boy closely, he turned to look at him. Although his eyes were beautiful, there was no emotion in them. Just like that of a dead person. Scott thought it was strange, he couldn¡¯t think of anything which can make a kid this young so emotionless. Scott came forward and said, ¡°Kid, How are you feeling? Are you hurt somewhere?¡± He replied politely, ¡°I¡¯m fine, thank you for helping me that day.¡± Although he tried to polite, his voice was still emotionless. Scott sighed when he saw this. ¡®Just what can make a child so small like this?¡¯ He thought to himself. ¡°Well, don¡¯t mind it. That was my duty. That aside, what is your name kid? And where are your parents?¡± Scott was truly worried about this kid. No matter how much he looked he couldn¡¯t find them. If he couldn¡¯t find them, it will be difficult to pay the bills. The Kid looked at Scott for a second, and then replied emotionlessly, ¡°My Name is Sid, and as for my parents I don¡¯t know where they are.¡± When Scott heard this, he thought the Sid was an orphan. He felt slight pity for him. ¡°Well, it can¡¯t be helped if you are an orphan. I will talk to the doctor about the bill. Let¡¯s see if something can be done.¡± Scott said, and left the room to find the doctor. Sid once again looked out of the window. He thought back on the night when he was being beaten up by those scum and killing intent flashed in his eyes for a second, but it soon went away as his face returned to being expressionless. Scott soon returned to the room, and said to Sid, ¡°There is no need to worry, the Doctor said that money for the treatment of poor or orphan children are taken from the charity. Isn¡¯t that a good news?¡± He said with a big smile on his face. But contrary to Scott¡¯s expectation, Sid just replied with a few words, ¡°I see, that¡¯s good to know.¡± With his usual expressionless face. Scott was a bit shocked. He never thought that a kid so young can be this indifferent. He thought it was out of ordinary as he asked him, ¡°What¡¯s with the ¡®I don¡¯t care¡¯ attitude kid? At least be a bit happy about being able to get away without any kind of problem even without being able to pay the money.¡± ¡°You are a kid, so you should act like one sometimes.¡± Scott said seriously to Sid. ¡°I will pay attention to this from now on. Thanks.¡± But Sid still replied with his usual indifference. As Scott saw this, he sighed and shook his head helplessly as he left the room. Chapter 2 While Scott and Sid were talking in their room, doctor was looking over the reports concerning the Kid. He has looked over these reports countless time, but he still found this amazing. During his career as a Doctor, he has looked over countless strange cases, but he never came across something like this. He has seen much kind of ability users, but he has never seen something like this. This was on a total different level from those so-called ¡®Regenerators¡¯. More than 20 broken bones, facture in skull, a massive brain hemorrhage due to excessive intracranial bleeding, and various other life threatening injuries which can take life of a normal person if they receive even one of them. But to think that these kinds of injuries will appear on the same person and a little kid on top of that. What is more shocking that the kid was able to recover from all of that in a short amount of time? Although Doctor ought to tell this Scott as he was the one who brought Sid to hospital, but he wasn¡¯t sure how to explain such a thing. Doctor thought aloud while he looked at the reports, ¡°Truly extraordinary! Although I have seen many people with extraordinary regeneration and healing abilities but I have never seen someone recover from such serious injuries so fast. What an amazing healing ability. No¡­.it wasn¡¯t something as simple as healing. It was like¡­.like the time was flowing backwards.¡± As Doctor thought this he felt it was a ridiculous thought. So he cast it aside. But he still couldn¡¯t stop thinking about this. He sighed and went back to do his work. -------------------------------------- It¡¯s been a week since that incident. Sid was now well enough to be discharged from the hospital. Well, to be honest he was already healed completely on the 3rd day, but doctor couldn¡¯t just discharge him so soon without any proper reason. So he just delayed it for a week. Although Sid stayed at hospital for a whole week, Scott was still shocked at his recovery speed. As far as he knew, Sid at least had 6 or 7 broken bones and also a massive blood loss. It was almost impossible to recover so quickly unless healing ability was used. But unfortunately healing ability users were extremely rare even on the entire earth. So it was impossible to find one in a small city like city Z. Still he didn¡¯t think too much about it and went to complete the procedure for Sid¡¯s discharge. As Scott was about to go back, Doctor suddenly called out to him, ¡°Mr. Barney please hold on for a second¡± As he quickly approached him. When Scott saw the serious expression on the doctor¡¯s face, he thought it was something important as his face turned serious as well. Doctor approached him and said seriously, ¡°Mr. Barney, you might have noticed that Sid is unusually indifferent to people for such a young kid. I don¡¯t know what happened to turn him into someone like this, but it was definitely a serious incident. I hope you will take good care of him.¡± Although it looked like doctor said this with just some good intention, but Scott understood the underlying meaning. He just asked him to take care of Sid and took him at his place. Even if doctor didn¡¯t ask him, he would have done the same as well. But he didn¡¯t make too much of it. If you take care of your appearance properly in future, I¡¯m sure that all girls will go crazy for you.¡± ¡°I don¡¯t have the luxury to dress as extravagantly as this.¡± Sid replied with a frown, as he looked at himself in the mirror. With his black hair, deep blue eyes and fair skin, he looked like a well made doll. No matter who, will always turn back to take a second look at him because of his cuteness. ¡°Now-now, there is no need to be stiff. You need to learn to joke a bit, or girls won¡¯t like you.¡± Seeing the indifference of Sid, Scott replied with a loud laugh as he didn¡¯t really care about his expressionless face. ¡°Well, I am grateful for all you have done for me, I will make sure to pay you back whenever I have the opportunity.¡± Sid politely bowed towards Scott and made his way towards the exit. When Scott saw him leaving, he hurriedly stopped him and said, ¡°Wait a second Kid! You don¡¯t have a place to go right?¡± Scott asked Sid. ¡°No but I am sure I can survive just fine even without a home.¡± Sid replied as it was a very normal thing to be homeless. When Scott heard his reply he was speechless. He was not sure how to reply him. ¡®This Kid is too emotionless, I¡¯m that he has some sort of tragic past¡¯ he thought. ¡°I say, if you don¡¯t have a place to go back, how about come and live with me? Its not like it¡¯s a bad deal right?¡± Scott said as he looked carefully at Sid. And just as he expected, Sid expression finally changed. He looked at Scott with amazement and doubt, as he asked cautiously, ¡°Why would you invite someone like me to live with you? You don¡¯t even know anything about me. Are you planning to kidnap me and sell me somewhere?¡± Sid looked at Scott with cautiousness and alert like he was facing a great enemy at this moment. When Scott saw the expression on Sid¡¯s face, he laughed loudly and said, ¡°Hahaha! Kid, so you can make some expression as well. You are a kid after all.¡± He once again started laughing loudly. When Sid saw Scott laughing loudly as he had heard the funniest joke in the world, he was a bit embarrassed as well as angry. His face turned red as he replied angrily, ¡°What¡¯s so funny about this? Isn¡¯t it a normal reaction to be vary of something like this?¡± When Scott heard this, he stopped laughing and once again looked at Sid with praise in his eyes as he said, ¡°Well, for a kid you sure are intelligent. Yes you are right. You should be vary of people who are strangers. But you should also remember that I¡¯m the person who saved your life not just anyone.¡± He said while grinning. When Sid saw his smile, he felt a little guilty, and said with a polite bow, ¡°I¡¯m sorry Mr. Barney, even though you saved my life, I still said something like that to you. I hope you can forgive me.¡± And once again bowed deeply. Scott saw this and said, ¡°Well there is not need to be so formal. I know you didn¡¯t mean anything bad so I forgive you.¡± ¡°So, what are you going to do kid? Are you coming with me or not?¡± Scott asked once again with a big smile on his face. Sid looked at him for a few seconds, and replied with a little hesitation. ¡°Then I will trouble you Mr. Barney.¡± Scott laughed loudly and turned around to leave the hospital with Sid. ¡®Well, I guess my little tasteless life will be a bit interesting now.¡¯ As Scott thought this he laughed to himself and left hospital together with Sid. Chapter 3 Scott and Sid soon reached to a shared apartment house. As Scott said, his home wasn¡¯t anything special. With just two rooms and a bathroom, it was a very small place but still good enough for a single person to live in. As Sid was only a kid, it wouldn¡¯t be much problem for him to live here. ¡°Well, as you can see, this is my little castle. Now, come on in.¡± When Scott and Sid finally reached Scott¡¯s home, he excitedly pulled him inside, ignoring the troubled expression on Sid¡¯s face. ¡°Well, make yourself home. I¡¯m going to whip up something quick and healthy for you to eat. As you just got out of the hospital it won¡¯t be good for you to eat something heavy,¡± Scott said this, and went to the kitchen. Although Sid had completely recovered from his injuries, he couldn¡¯t just tell Scott about it. He wasn¡¯t even sure whether he could completely trust him or not. Soon, Scott came in with a bowl of rice porridge, some sandwiches, and tea. It was a very plain meal but good enough for a patient. ¡°Alright, eat kid. I¡¯m sure you are hungry,¡± Scott said while laughing. ¡°Well, then I will help myself ¡± Sid said his thanks, and started digging in. Scott quietly watched him eat and sighed inwardly. Although he never asked him about what had happened that day, he was still troubled about it. But asking something which can possibly traumatize Sid, he was hesitating. Although he very much wanted to know, he knew this was not the right time to ask such a thing as he was just discharged from hospital. So he decided to talk about something else, ¡°So, what is your ¡®special ability¡¯, kid?¡± Scott asked curiously. Nowadays, everyone was born with a special ability. There were strong ones and weak ones. But every single person was born with it on planet Earth in this era. Sid suddenly stopped when he heard this. When Scott saw this, he asked, ¡°What is it? Is something wrong?¡± Sid suddenly brought his hand up, and flower pot on the window suddenly came flying in. ¡°Telekinesis. Well that¡¯s quite a useful ability you got there,¡± Scott said while looking at the floating flower vase. ¡°What¡¯s so good about it, if it was before the Great Nuclear War, it might have been an extremely useful. But now, it¡¯s just one of the most useless abilities ¡± Sid said calmly, but Scott could still see some sadness in his eyes. ¡®The Great Nuclear War, huh.¡¯ Scott sighed to himself as he thought about it. Although it was 500 years ago, it was still something that every single person on Earth knew about. As long as a child was able to understand things, he was first told about the greatest destruction and mistake caused by humanity. The 3rd world war, also known as the ¡®Great Nuclear War¡¯ was the biggest tragedy in the history of humanity. The peaceful society was completely destroyed and this cruel world rose up from it. That war wiped out about 60% of the entire earth¡¯s population. At that time, everyone on Earth accepted their fate. Because of the radiation, many people died, lands became infertile, and rivers were gone. That, truly was the end of the Earth, or so everyone thought. But for some reason, instead of dying out, the remaining people on Earth started evolving. They developed various kinds of abilities like controlling the elements, super strength, the ability to soar through the sky, and many other useful abilities that came into existence. But not all of them were useful. Because of radiation, there was extreme shortage of food and water. So people with stronger abilities started stealing and monopolizing everything around them. There was chaos everywhere. From rape, theft, murder, people did whatever they wanted. As there was no government to control them like in the past, this was just a paradise to them. Soon enough, different organizations and guilds came into existence. They started to recruit people with strong abilities and started to rule areas around them. This once again started wars over the control for this New Earth. Because of the existence of these organizations, things started to get a bit orderly, but things like murder, stealing and rape were something that became a very normal thing. Until, the appearance of ¡®The Savior of Humanity.¡¯ No one knew where he came from, or who he was. He just appeared one day with an exceptional ability to command nature. He slaughtered the evil cults and organizations all over the world and used his ability to restore the Asian continent on Earth. He transferred people from all over the world to Asia. As Asia was the biggest landmass on Earth, the remaining population on Earth was able to survive on it. After that, he established his own organization known as ¡°The Great Alliance¡±. After the Alliance came into existence, the chaos ended. For the next 100 years, the savior of humanity continually guarded over the earth.But after that, he disappeared. News of his disappearance caused a huge commotion throughout the world. People once again became afraid of the chaos that would follow after his disappearance. But contrary to everyone¡¯s expectations, nothing happened. The Great Alliance still functioned as before and maintained the order throughout the world. Nowadays he is Known as the ¡®Son of God¡¯. As he was the savior of earth, his statues can be seen everywhere on the continent. There are even some places where he is formally worshipped as a god. ¡®It¡¯s already been 500 years since then.¡¯ Scott sighed as he was thinking this. He once again looked at Sid, who was eating quietly, with pity in his eyes. Although he praised his ability, he knew that it would be very difficult for him to live in the cruel world if he was not strong enough. Scott himself was born with super strength. Although the rank of his ability was not strong, he was still able to live his life quietly. When he was thinking this, Sid suddenly turned to him and said, ¡°There is no need to pity me. Because what just happened, is very similar to something which can only be done by those who possess one of the superior Grade ¡®A¡¯ ability ¡®Teleportation¡¯. ¡°Power to control the Space and Time huh¡± Sid thought to himself ¡°So I have an ability of my own now. Who would have thought that getting beaten up to the point of near death, will give me such an amazing ability.¡± He said while smiling bitterly. Sid was one of the kids born with an ability called Inborn Wisdom. People with this ability can be considered extremely intelligent. They can learn anything and everything as soon as they were born. So although Sid was only 8 years old, he was still as smart as an adult. A very useful ability to have right? Unfortunately that was all it can do. Although people with this ability can be considered smart but they were still just normal humans. Without being strong you won¡¯t be able to live in this world. Usually inborn Wisdom was always found in people with multiple abilities. But Sid only ended up with a bit of wisdom nothing else. He could be considered the most useless person on the Earth in this new Era. Because of that, he was bullied everywhere, and even hated by his own parents. Just the other day, he was beaten up just because he bumped into their leader. ¡°I don¡¯t know if I should thank you or not.¡± Sid said when he thought about those guys. He always had an inferior complex to people possessing amazing abilities. Now that he had his own ability, you could say that he can now be considered a true Ability User. As Sid was thinking all this, Scott came back form his walk. ¡°Well, What are you doing Kid?¡± Scott asked when he saw Sid sitting by the window. ¡°Nothing, Just enjoying the scenery.¡± Sid replied while looking out of the window. ¡°I See¡± Scott sat down on a chair as looked at Sid. ¡®I guess it¡¯s the time to ask about it¡¯ Scott thought to himself. Although he never wanted to ask about it, it was necessary to know who did such a thing. Otherwise, there can be more incidents like this in the future. How can he leave something like this alone after seeing Sid in that condition? ¡°But I never asked for your help did I?¡± Sid said expressionlessly. He seemed to return to his usual expressionless self at this moment. ¡°You!¡± Scott pointed his finger at him as he was about to say something. Suddenly he thought of something and took a deep breath. He looked at Sid seriously and asked, ¡°Kid, is it possible that those guys threatened you? If that¡¯s the case, you can still tell me about it. I will make sure that those guys won¡¯t find out about you. There is no need to be scared. Scott was Speechless when he heard it. He then suddenly sighed, and stood up, ¡°Well, if you don¡¯t want to say it, I won¡¯t force you. But I will catch whoever did that to you, no matter what.¡± He went to his room as he said this. Sid looked at Scott as he walked away, and murmured, ¡°If I tell you about who those guys are, I won¡¯t be able to kill them with my own hands.¡± As he said this a sinister smile and killing intent flashed in his eyes. ---------------------------------- Back at the city hospital where Sid was taken last time, Doctor was still thinking about what happened during the treatment of Sid. But after thinking for a long time, he wasn¡¯t able to think of anything. So he decided to contact one of his friends in ¡®Healer Association¡¯. But Even his friend was surprised to hear about it. ¡°John, I will ask you once again. Whatever you said now is completely true right?¡± Voice on the other side of phone asked the Doctor. ¡°Absolutely true¡± Doctor ¡®John¡¯ replied seriously.
