《Liquid Magics》 Chapter 1: Beginnings "Sir, I''m terribly sorry. Your son, he, seems to have talent for only water magic." Hearing these words from an old woman, a middle aged man suddenly turns crestfallen and grimaces. Ignoring the happenings around me, I start to awake and become aware of my own consciousness. Where am I? Who am I? I have no memories at all, yet I feel like I should. While having these thoughts, I feel gentle hands pick me up and hold me tightly. Soon in front of my eyes, I see a beautiful young woman. She possess fair dark skin that makes her vivid green eyes and fiery red hair stand out. ¡°It doesn¡¯t matter what magic he has talent for. He¡¯s still my son.¡± The woman''s melodious voice sound in my ears. I see so she¡¯s my mother. ¡°Fine. Then you can raise him yourself.¡± I hear the man disdainfully say. ¡°I won¡¯t have any relations with a useless water mage.¡± ¡°How can you say that? He¡¯s your son!¡± The woman yells angrily. So the man¡¯s my father. His eyes are a deep blue color with matching hair of the same color. He¡¯s light skinned and by his frame he looks rather strong. ¡°I won¡¯t have a useless son!¡± He yells angrily. He angrily rushes out of the room. He slammed the door causing it to form large cracks in the wood and send fragments flying. ¡°Don¡¯t worry, I¡¯ll take care of you.¡± My mother whispers towards me. ¡°If he doesn¡¯t want to raise you then you won¡¯t have to hold his name.¡± I feel water falling on my face. My mother starts sobbing letting her tears fall unhindered. I can feel all of her tears dripping as they cascade down her face and onto mine. I don¡¯t want anymore tears to fall. Thinking this, something odd happened. The water droplets ceased falling. The droplets reflected the light causing them to appear as floating diamonds. Seeing this, my mother gasped in surprise and quickly disperses the water. She stopped crying thankfully. She stares into my eyes almost like she is trying to see through my soul. ¡°You can already control water?¡± I hear her whisper. I stare at her unblinking. I can¡¯t really answer her yet. ¡°We¡¯ll leave. I¡¯ll raise you myself.¡± My mother suddenly stands. She starts to fall but catches herself. ¡°We don¡¯t need that man. From now on you will be my only family.¡±This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it. Being carried through the hall, I see many people watching us. They seems to be looking at me with disdain. I hate that look. ¡°Stop! Where do you think you¡¯re going?¡± I hear my father¡¯s voice again. He seems to have discovered that my mother left the room and is not going to her room. He still sounds angry. ¡°I¡¯m taking my son away from here. Like you said, I¡¯ll raise him by myself!¡± My mother shouts. Hearing this, I see the man frown deeply. ¡°I can¡¯t let you do that!¡± He yells angrily. ¡°Stop her from leaving and kill that boy!¡± Hearing his shout, many men jump towards my mother and I. With a quick wave of her hand, fire shoots towards the charging men. Many of them start screaming in pain as the flames char their skin. Taking this chance, my mother sprints out the door away from the house. I hear an angry yell from behind us. My mother has been sprinting non-stop for awhile now. I can hear her breathing heavily. It seems that she¡¯s almost at her limit. There are noises coming from behind us still. It looks like the pursuers are about to catch up. A river appears in front of my mother. She¡¯s now gasping for breath. She¡¯s looking at the other riverbank trying to make a plan I think. The sounds are getting closer. ¡°It seems there¡¯s only one way then,¡± My mother whispers while she starts kneeling down. Twang! I see an arrow pierce my mother''s shoulder. She doesn¡¯t cry out in pain though. She calmly places me into the river. ¡°You are loved by the water gods, they will not injure you in this river.¡± ¡°Go and live a happy life, my son Azeal.¡± I hear my mom say before turning around and staring at her enemies. ¡°Your mother will make sure no one harms you today.¡± I watch as my mother moves her hands and fire spreads towards the men opposing her. However, I know she is too tired to stand for long. It doesn¡¯t take long for the men to overwhelm her. She is forced to kneel on the ground. I can see my father walk towards her. His shining silver armor depicts a flaming bird with a sword and staff in each claw. He starts speaking to my mother. I can¡¯t hear them since I¡¯m slowly drifting away. Before I drift too far I watch as my father raises his sword. With a swing, he directly kills my mother. I was just born. I didn¡¯t even know my mother''s name. Yet, she¡¯s gone just like that¡­.. I¡¯ll kill him. The man who is my.. no he¡¯s not my father. He is just the man who killed my mother. Nothing else. I will kill him and his entire family. That flaming bird with a sword and staff. Drifting down the river, I feel the current start to pick up. However, the water doesn¡¯t let me sink. Instead it feels like it¡¯s hugging me closely protecting me from any harm. I¡¯m tired. Without anything else to keep me I awake, I fall asleep. ************ ¡°Oh? What is this?¡± An elderly man sitting near a river says. He sees something floating on top of the water. It¡¯s a child! ¡°Why this isn¡¯t something that happens everyday.¡± The man says to himself and waves his hand. At first nothing happens and then a surprised look appears on his face. ¡°I¡¯ve never seen someone so loved by the water.¡± The man whispers to himself with wide eyes of curiosity and wonder as he gazes upon the young child. ¡°This must be fate." With gentle eyes, the man stares at the boy cradled carefully by the waters of the river. A gentle smile slowly appears on his face. "Don¡¯t worry, child. I will take care of you and raise you as my own.¡± The elderly man softly states. After a few seconds, the baby starts to slowly drift towards him. When the baby is finally in his reach, the man slowly grabs him. ¡°Thank you for trusting me. I swear by my abilities as a water mage no harm will come to this child as long as I live.¡± He bows towards the river. The river churns slightly seeming to accept his oath. Taking the child away the man says ¡°I shall raise you into becoming the strongest water mage the world has ever seen.¡± C2 Awakening Wakening up I can feel someone holding me. I open my eyes and see an old man. My first instincts are to start struggling. I thrash around in the man''s grip causing him to notice my awakening. Though my thrashing isn¡¯t effective enough to have the man release me. ¡°Don¡¯t worry child.¡± I hear a calming voice respond. It reminds me of waves hitting the shore. ¡°I will not hurt you.¡± I stop thrashing and stare at the man. His eyes are gray but clear. His stare feels like it can see through any lie. ¡°Good. I am Ashvan.¡± Ashvan says to me. I can only nod in response. Seeing me nod he looks slightly surprised before asking ¡°Can you understand me?¡± I nod again at his question. He smiles brightly and says ¡°Good this will make things easier.¡± ¡°As I said before I am Ashvan. I am currently traveling to my homeland of Loric where I am headmaster of water magic at the school of Four Elements.¡± Ashvan explains to me. ¡°I found you in the river and made an oath with the water to protect you.¡± I nod again and relax finally. I don¡¯t know why but I can feel that I can trust this man. ¡°I don¡¯t know why you were in the river but I will raise you no matter what. I will also teach you all that I know about water magic and the proper way to use it.¡± Ashvan says. ¡°You will be my only disciple.¡± That¡¯s what I want! I want to learn magic. I start shaking a little in excitement. Ashvan looks at me but can¡¯t tell how I¡¯m feeling. His face turns a little dejected before saying, ¡°Do you not want to learn magic from me?¡± No! I mean, Yea I want to learn magic from you! I shout in my head. I don¡¯t know how to tell him that. ¡°I see so that is indeed the case then.¡± Ashvan sighs sadly. No! I want to learn! I can¡¯t speak so that¡¯s not an option. I can¡¯t respond in any descriptive way. While thinking of ways to tell Ashvan that I want to learn he continues to carry me along the road. After some time he sighs and pulls out a cup. With a wave of his hand water appears and pours into the cup. That¡¯s it! I yell in my mind. I can control that water in the cup to make him understand. I start thinking to try and manipulate the water inside the cup. I¡¯m able to move it so that it¡¯s sticking to the top of the cup. I watch Ashvan raise the cup to drink. After a few seconds a confused look appeared on his face. He looks into the cup and sees the water sticking to the top of the cup. He turns to me with a surprised expression. ¡°Did you do this?¡± He asks calmly. I nod in response. His face turns bright as a smile spread across his face. ¡°So you want to learn magic from me then?¡± He asks. I nod again. His smile grows wider. ¡°Then you were shaking to tell me you wanted to start learning now?¡± He asks. I nod again. His smile grows even wider. It¡¯s almost to the point where his whole face has turned into a smile. ¡°Good! Good!¡± Ashvan starts saying while laughing. ¡°Fine then I¡¯ll start teaching you magic now. Since you¡¯re still young I can¡¯t give you the direct way I train with water magic. I¡¯ll wait till you can walk to do that.¡± Eh? I need to be able to walk to learn his magic? I need to try and start walking soon then! ¡°For now I¡¯ll just start with the basics of magic.¡± Ashvan says with a smile. He¡¯s walking with more of a bounce to his step now. ¡°First is the elements. Currently there are four with variations in each element. The four major elements are Fire, Earth, Wind, Water. Each represent a certain attribute and specialize in one thing.¡± Ashvan start his explanation. It seems he really is a teacher. ¡°Do you want to learn about all of the elements? If not I can just focus on Water.¡± Ashvan asks me. I nod in response. It¡¯s better to know about all elements than just mine. ¡°Good. Fire is attributed with destruction and specializes in attacking. Earth is attributed to stability and specializes in defense. Wind is attributed with swiftness and specializes in mobility. Water is attributed to adaptability and specializes in healing.¡± ¡°However, even though they are specialized doesn¡¯t mean they are limited to that. That means that earth can attack still without and downside. Unfortunately, unlike other magics Water magic when used to attack is potentially useless.¡± ¡°This comes from the properties of water. If you were to throw a ball of fire there will be damage caused by fires innate property to burn. Now if you were to throw a ball of water it would only splash off and have no real damage. This disparity causes people to disregard water mages completely.¡± Ashvan explains with a sad tone. ¡°Well maybe you¡¯ll be able to change that.¡± Ashvan stares at me expectantly. I don¡¯t know how I¡¯m different though.I hear a grumble and realise that I haven¡¯t had anything to eat since I¡¯ve been born. ¡°I see that you¡¯re hungry.¡± Ashvan says with a laugh. ¡°Let me see if there¡¯s a monster nearby that could feed you.¡± With that we leave the road and enter the nearby forest. Chapter 3 Monster Interaction Entering the forest, I¡¯m slightly concerned. If water magic is bad at both attacking and defending, how will we be able to fight? ¡°I think I know what you¡¯re thinking about.¡± Ashvan says with a laugh. ¡°Don¡¯t worry though, we¡¯ll be fine. You¡¯ll also be able to see what type of training I¡¯ve done.¡± Hearing him, I¡¯m excited. I really want to know how he¡¯s trained. Walking through the forest, it doesn¡¯t take long for us to find a wild bear. It notices us and starts growling. Behind it are some cubs that seem to have been born recently. However, unlike most bears this one seems different. It releases a deafening roaring with heavy pressure in our direction intent on defending its young. Luckily, Ashvan protects me from the shockwaves. ¡°Ah, a Rage Bear.¡± Ashvan says calmly. Rage Bear? ¡°It¡¯s a basic monster found in this forest. Most D-class mercenaries will be able to handle it. As an archmage, this isn¡¯t something to be concerned about.¡± Ashvan walks towards the mother bear and says. ¡°Don¡¯t worry about anything and watch.¡± With that he jumps forward and directly punches the bear in the face. Surprised by his sudden action, I then get even more surprised by the outcome. His punch forced the bear to do a back-flip and slam against a tree. It seems that the bear is down for the count already. Ashvan walks towards the bear and starts using magic on it. ¡°I will not kill you. I just wish to have this child drink some of your milk.¡± Hearing these soothing words and feeling it¡¯s injuries heal the bear seems to have relaxed. It seems to have submitted to Ashvan. Ashvan brings me towards the bear after he finishes it¡¯s treatment. I¡¯m slightly concerned. I¡¯ve never had bear milk before. But, I¡¯m hungry and can¡¯t eat anything else as a one day old. The mother bear then shows one of it¡¯s teats. Before I can begin drinking, I hear a loud roar that shakes the forest. This roar causes Ashvan to frown and the bear to start shaking in fear. After a few seconds of suspenseful silence, loud snaps start sounding and the earth shakes. The earthquakes are getting stronger signalling something is approaching. Eventually, a large blue wolf that''s exceedingly larger than the bear appears in our view. Though I say blue, it¡¯s more a silver with a blue tint. It¡¯s fur is also sparkling in the sunlight. Why is it here?¡± ¡°Don¡¯t worry human. I will not cause you any harm.¡± A female voice radiates the surroundings. ¡°Then may I ask why you are here? This shouldn¡¯t be within your territory.¡± Ashvan asks calmly. He still is in a position to run if necessary. ¡°You are correct. This is not my territory, however, I felt a resonance with that child there.¡± The female voice responds to Ashvan questions calmly. ¡°I see. Then what are you going to do then?¡± Ashvan asks. ¡°I will travel with you through this forest and mother that child. I can feel the waters love for that child. I feel the same love towards him.¡± She explains. ¡°Fine.¡± Ashvan says. He moves towards the Fenrir and places me next to her. The Fenrir responds by wrapping her large body around me and having one of her teats near my mouth. ¡°Drink my child.¡± I hear her coo. Responding to her voice and my hunger, I begin to suck on her teat. I feel the milk entering my mouth. It¡¯s cool and refreshing. After a few minutes of drinking, I¡¯m finally full. Noticing me finish, the Fenrir unwraps herself from me. Ashvan takes this time to pick me up again. The milk seems to be making me feel weird. I can feel something pulsing in my body. A strength that isn¡¯t normal. ¡°Drinking my milk will increase your physical and magical abilities.¡± The Fenrir explains to me. ¡°However, it will only work on children.¡± I see so that''s where this strength is coming from. ¡°Well, let¡¯s continue on our journey. I have more things to tell you about magic.¡± Ashvan says while carrying me. ¡°Now let¡¯s talk about those variations. Variations are just magics that closely relate to another magic. Like mud magic. They¡¯re uncommon however those that are able to use these variations are also able to use the base element magic. So mud magicians can use both Earth and Water.¡± ¡°That is the basis for all elements currently.¡± Ashvan says. ¡°Now we can expand on what water magic actually is. Water magic is the usage and control of water by the manipulation of mana. It¡¯s main benefit is healing. The healing is caused by mana entering the body through water being controlled by mana.¡± I enjoy listening to his explanations, but I wish I had something to train while listening. ¡°You¡¯re probably wondering what you can do now to train.¡± Ashvan says almost like he¡¯s reading my mind. ¡°Currently we can train your magic control and maximum mana capacity. Luckily, training these can be done at the same time.¡± ¡°To train your capacity, you just need to empty your current mana pool and then let it refill. There also medicines and rare objects that can increase it, but this way is nice and cheap.¡± Ashvan explains with a laugh. ¡°For control, you just need to use magic and manipulate it. Like when you were messing with the water in the cup. So while we are traveling, you can just do that!¡± Ashvan say excitedly. ¡°I¡¯ll also be able to see how large your mana pool is currently.¡± I nod in response, but before I can manipulate water, I need to learn how to make it. I stare at Ashvan expectantly ¡°Ah! To create water you just need to think about it. The water will be created purely by your mana.¡± Ashvan explains. Really, that¡¯s it? I begin to think about creating water. Like Ashvan said the water was formed easily. Currently, it¡¯s a lumpy ball of water that could fit inside a man''s hand. Well, I guess the first thing I should try doing is making the ball smooth. I attempt to make the water ball smooth for about half an hour before becoming tired. I quickly fell asleep. Chapter 4: Abilities and Training Waking up, I discover that it¡¯s night time. Fenrir is currently wrapped around my body. It seems she is protecting me while keeping me warm. Well, I¡¯ll start to work on my magic some more. I once again create a ball of water from mana. However, this time it¡¯s almost smooth. Let''s make it completely smooth by tonight! ¡°Are you awake?¡± I hear a female voice. I feel Fenrir move to look at me. I hope I didn¡¯t wake her up. However, I still nod at her question. ¡°Good. I have somethings to tell you.¡± Fenrir snuggles up against me some. ¡°First, since you are drinking my milk, there might be some side effects. One of them is being able to understand monster language. This one will be beneficial to you probably.¡± ¡°Second, you will release a faint aura of Fenrir. I will teach you how to control it so that certain groups won¡¯t attempt to kill you.¡± ¡°Third and finally, you may unlock the ability to use ice magic. Ice magic is one of my inherent abilities. So, it might transfer over to you.¡± Fenrir explains to me. The first and third bonuses are nice. However, I¡¯m slightly concerned about the second side effect. Who or what would try and kill me because of that aura? Then again, it is an SSS Class monster aura. ¡°There is one last thing I want you to attempt before I go back to sleep.¡± Fenrir says. ¡°I feel that your water magic is different. I think it might be a variant type of magic, but I don¡¯t know what kind. For now, I want you to try moving some mud.¡± I can only nod and try. After creating a ball of water, I threw it on the nearby dirt and attempted to move the mud that formed. Surprisingly, I was able to move the mud slightly. My inability to move it might be due to the lack of training. ¡°I see so you are a variant type. Though, you can¡¯t use magic of the Earth attribute, but can still use the Earth and Water variant of mud magic. Interesting. However, just being able to use mud magic won¡¯t make me resonate with you.¡± Fenrir says. ¡°When you find any liquids, you should try to manipulate it.¡±If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it. I nod at her statement. I¡¯ll try and use my magic on liquids. If it¡¯s possible to manipulate multiple liquids then it¡¯ll be helpful. Seeing me, Fenrir turns around and goes back to sleep. I¡¯ll continue trying to make a smooth water ball. After thirty minutes, I was able to make a ball however, I soon fell asleep afterwards. We were already traveling by the time I woke up. I had to make them stop to eat. They didn¡¯t seem to mind it though. ¡°How far have you progressed?¡± Ashvan asks me. Showing him, I create a smooth waterball in the air. ¡°Good! You really are loved by the water god it seems. Making a smooth waterball that size would usually take a few months for most kids.¡± Ashvan says excitedly. ¡°Your next task will be to mold it into a stable detailed form. Any form will do, armor, weapons, buildings anything complex really.¡± I see so you start with a simple object then make more advanced objects. Does that mean the finish project is detailed dragons or living creatures? Well let¡¯s start now. ---------------------------------------------------------- For three months, my days consisted of training my magic control, magic capacity and gaining knowledge. During these three months, Ashvan gave a ¡°brief¡± history of the continent. By brief, I mean we spent three whole months on the first half of the history. During the mornings, I was training my magic control by shaping the waterball. I am not able to create basic detailed shapes. My swords would only be recognized as swords. They have blades and hilts but no details. During the nights, I was with Fenrir training my ability to use mud and other liquid objects I could obtain. This included milk, and blood from mainly mindless, low-level monsters that stupidly attacked and that were killed for attacking an archmage and god class monster. When Fenrir saw I could manipulate blood, she was slightly perturbed so I stopped doing it in front of her. ¡°In about a week, we will be exiting the forest.¡± Ashvan says to me. I see. Still, this is a large forest if it took us three months to cross it. ¡°Ok¡­ Big.¡± I say in response. Hearing me, Ashvan nods. He has gained a basic understanding of my short sentences. ¡°Though this forest is large, it only took this long since we stayed close to the edges.¡± Ashvan explains. ¡°If we went directly through the forest, it might of only taken a month. But getting close to the center of this forest is dangerous.¡± ¡°When you leave the forest, I won¡¯t be able to travel with you.¡± Fenrir says to us. ¡°I¡¯m not allowed to leave the forest.¡± Hearing her, I¡¯m sad and reluctant to part. I¡¯ve enjoyed the time I¡¯ve stayed with her in the forest. A week didn¡¯t last long and we reached the forest exit according to Ashvan. Turning around, Ashvan says ¡°Thank you for guiding us through the forest.¡± ¡°Don¡¯t mention it. I needed to do it.¡± Fenrir replies. ¡°I will head back to my domain.¡± After saying this, Fenrir turns around and starts moving to the forest. Seeing her leave, I¡¯m distressed. I takes me a second before I say, ¡°I¡­. Come back.¡± Hearing my words, Fenrir stops and turns around. Her eyes are slightly wet. She moves towards me and licks my face. ¡°I¡¯ll wait for you then. Please visit me.¡± I smile and give her snout a hug. After, she disappeared into the forest. ¡°Well, let¡¯s continue to our home.¡± Ashvan says. Chapter 5: Arrival and the Castle It didn¡¯t take long for us to reach the first town. Before entering, Ashvan gave me very strict instructions. ¡°Don¡¯t go showing your magic to anyone. If they found out that you could do magic at your age, you¡¯d be treated as a monster.¡± I nod obediently and just observe everything around the town. It¡¯s a small town. There only seems to be the necessities here. An inn, a mercenary guild and a meeting area. We only have business at the inn though. The inn is relatively small. However, there were free rooms available. Ashvan rented a room and we went directly to it. He places me down on the bed and says, ¡°We¡¯ll be heading to the Academy of Four Elements in the capital directly. It should only take us a few weeks.¡± I nod in response. I don¡¯t really have any opinion. I enjoy being with Ashvan and I can¡¯t really doing anything by myself yet. ¡°Now I have plans for you.¡± Ashvan says with a smile. ¡°I¡¯ll have you live with me. When you reach the age of 14, you will be enrolled into my school. While I know you won¡¯t be learning anything while in the school, I believe that you will need some time to make friends.¡± ¡°Ok.¡± I say with a nod. ¡°Good then when we reach the capital, I¡¯ll start seriously teaching you magic. Though I have to warn you, I might not be home often. This is due to my job as Headmaster. So, I¡¯ll have a maid take care of you while I¡¯m away.¡± Ashvan continues. I nod again. ¡°Good kid.¡± Ashvan says while rubbing my head. ¡°Let¡¯s head to sleep then. The sooner we reach the capital the better.¡±The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings. I nod and begin practicing magic till I fall asleep. ---------------------------------------------------------- After three weeks we, reach a huge wall. It¡¯s exciting seeing something so large. We follow the road around the wall to a gate. At the gate are some guards. ¡°Hault! We need to do an inspecti-¡± The guard stops mid sentence and says, ¡°Headmaster! I¡¯m glad to see you return safely!¡± ¡°Haha, it¡¯s been sometime hasn¡¯t it. Anything interesting happen?¡± Ashvan responds with a smile. It seems he¡¯s this kind to everyone. ¡°Yes, The Queen gave birth to twins. Both of them are daughters. I¡¯ve heard that there were some difficulties in the birth, but she got through it and is healthy.¡± The guards replies with the most important news. Hearing the news, I see Ashvan frown a little before saying, ¡°I¡¯ll head to the palace first then and check up on her.¡± ¡°That would be good! I think everyone would be relieved to hear you visited her.¡± The guard says. Suddenly he notices me and asks, ¡°Who is this child in your arms?¡± ¡°This is my grandson. I found him alone and decided to pick him up.¡± Ashvan explains to the guard. Grandson? That doesn¡¯t sound too bad. ¡°Azeal.¡± I say after some difficulty. The guard looks surprised before saying ¡°I see, a good name!¡± He turns towards Ashvan and says ¡°Please enter the city!¡± After entering the city, I¡¯m surprised by the amount of people. There are hundreds of people in my view. There are beast-kin, humans, elves, and dwarves. ¡°Well, let¡¯s head to the castle first.¡± Ashvan says. I don¡¯t respond since I¡¯m looking at everything in the city. There are buildings with different signs in front of them. There are stands that are serving food to the passing people. There¡¯s more activity here than I¡¯ve seen before. While looking at everything in my surroundings, I didn¡¯t notice that the castle sneaked up on me. Turning towards it, I see a massive building. There are spires, statues, gardens and fountains outside the castle. Ashvan was allowed to enter the castle directly due to his status. He was greeted by everyone who we passed along the way. ¡°It¡¯s good to see you again old friend!¡± I hear a hearty voice say. I turn towards it and see a beast-kin with a tiger head and stripped tail. He¡¯s well built. ¡°It¡¯s good to see you too, Your Majesty.¡± Ashvan responds to the man. ¡°Haha don¡¯t call me that, just Leoric is fine!¡± The King says to Ashvan. ¡°What brought you here suddenly?¡± ¡°I just arrived and heard about the Queen and wanted to check up on her.¡± Ashvan says with a smile. ¡°Good! I¡¯d love to have your advice.
