《Not Really But Okay》 Chapter 1: Character Creation. After an extremely tiring day, you get back on your computer ready to browse RRL, play some games or watch your favourite youtubers. You sit down (or lie down) and start it up. When it turns on you get a message from one of your friends. Apparently, there''s this new game (s)he wants you to check out. Sighing, you decide to take a look. You know s(he) will keep pestering you until you give in so there was no point trying to wiggle your way out of this. You look at the name and search it up. "Not Really But Okay" It''s a strange name for a game but you don''t really care. You''re just going to take a quick look. Only one result shows up. You click on it. It takes a long time to load but once it does you get even more disappointed. Its a blank grey screen save for the words "Not Really But Okay". They are displayed in the middle of your screen, with a button reading "PLAY" below it. Your friend didn''t mention if it was browser based or indie, did he? You press play getting ready to cringe at the bad graphics and grammar that are so common amongst other indie and browser games. The screen presents itself, it retains that bland look but its oddly inviting. Question #1: What is your gender? Huh, straight toCharacter creation. A small entry box is displayed below the text. At the bottom of the page is a button displaying the word "NEXT". You think about it for a bit and come upon an answer. You type it in and go to the next question.Stolen story; please report. Question #2: What race do you want to be? Again, you see the entry box and "NEXT" button. It seems only the question changes. Strangely, they isn''t a choice here, only an entry box. Maybe they anticipated what races people wanted to be and ignored the possibility of those extremely random choices? You type in your answer as you ponder about what the developers were thinking. Question #3: What is your alignment? Now, instead of an entry box and the next button, nine answer buttons appeared. They read, Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Chaotic Good, Lawful Neutral, True Neutral, Chaotic Neutral, Lawful Evil, Neutral Evil and Chaotic Evil. It seems its talking about how your character behaves and interacts with the world. It''s a little bit more in depth than most games you''ve seen but there are still trashy games whose only redeeming quality is their diversity. You click your answer and continue. Question #4: What class are you? Like the race, this one only had an entry box. Truly, they must think the human mind is limited to such monotonous thinking! Maybe they''re right... You type in your answer and continue. Question #5: How old is your character? (No older than 35) A small box displaying the number 0 seems to be your method of completing the question now. The next button is there when you finish. You click the box and it lists the numbers between 0-35. You think a little bit more about this one before continuing. Confused on why you could pick your age. Question #6: What is your character¡¯s main strength? Choose wisely. Six buttons were displayed, each with a little "i" for information beside them. They read, Intelligence, Strength, Endurance, Luck, Dexterity and Random. You think back to the class you choose and got worried because you might have spelt it wrong. You shrug it off though because you can''t fix it if you wanted to. There was no back button and you don''t feel like going through the entire creation process again. You click your answer and continue. The page goes blank and you stare at a grey screen for a while. You want to grab a snack but you don''t want to leave if something happens. You wait for a bit long before some text appears. "Character creation complete, please return in a week to begin playing." What? You went through all that just to let it tell you to come back in a week? What kind of game was this? Annoyed you get up and grab that snack. Even through your frustration, something about the game kept you hooked. Guess you''ll have to wait for next week. "Author Chats" #1 - Very Important Information Hello viewers. "Author Chats" are going to be a new chapter that will be posted after every story. Basically, it''s just me talking to you. (Also it helps the story gain more attention because that''s what it needs right now) I guess it''s just an extended form of the Post-Chapter Author''s note. That''s what "Author Chats" are. Now onto the chapter. The first chapter was probably the most important. Its where you decide how the character would shape out. So far, I''ve only received two suggestions and only one was complete. I''m hoping that this chapter will attract some more viewers before I start writing the story. But I do feel that two out of my 6 questions were answered. In both suggestions, the character was male and his main stat would be intelligence. I like the sound of that so I''ll be keeping that. The remaining questions would be: Question #2: What race do you want to be? Question #3: What is your alignment? Question #4: What class are you? Question #5: How old is your character? (No older than 35) You can answer these in the comment section down here or in the previous chapter. You can also comment about anything you dislike or are confused of in this chapter. Now, I wanted to give you an example of how the story will work out with viewer interactions. Every so often, I will prompt you to answer a question. These are viewer interactions. These viewer interactions will be bolded. For example: It''s been a long day and she doesn''t look too happy. She walks up to you expecting a response. What should you say? Then, I would give you a list of answers to choose from. 1 - "Suck it up! We''ve got to get going!" This tale has been unlawfully lifted without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon.2 - "You seem tired. Are you okay?" 3 - Ignore her and keep walking. 4 - Awkwardly Chuckle and say "Long day?" 5 - "You must be tired, but we can''t stop here." Your choice matters alot. Each response triggers something different but they mostly interact with stats. Some may improve your physical stats while others improve hidden stats like relationship or courage. They also cause some events to change. In the Author Talks, that comes out maybe 3 - 6 days after the chapter, I will present the choice selected by the viewers along with the other responses. I''ll also show you what they did to the stats, but not the events. 1 - "Suck it up! We''ve got to get going!" ( -1 to relationship) 2 - "You seem tired. Are you okay?" ( +2 to relationship) 3 - Ignore her and keep walking. (-2 to relatonship) 4 - Awkwardly Chuckle and say "Long day?" (-3 to relationship) 5 - "You must be tired, but we can''t stop here." (+1 to relationship) That''s aviewer interaction. Now ontocharacter choice. Acharacter choice is a choice that has extreme affects on the world and story. They will be italicized and bolded. I''ll give you an example. He lied to you, tricked you and betrayed you. He''s murdered in cold-blood but he was the only one who stood by you. You know you can never forgive him for what he''s done, but you can give him mercy.Do you kill him? 1 - I can''t let him go. He commited the ultimate sin. I have judged his case, and sentence him to death. 2 - No matter what he''s done, he was always there for me. I can''t forget that. I''ve finished my judgement and I''ll let him go. These are very important , very RARE choices that change the story overall. I will present the choosen response in the "Author Chats" but not what they did. You''ll find the result of your actions in the next chapter. (By the way. Some character choices can lead to aDEAD END meaning you''ll have to go back to the previous chapter and choose something different.Viewer interactions can also come into play and choosing the correct sequence can avoid aDEAD END or give your character a buff/bonus. --- Man that took some time to write. Tell my if you like this system I put in or if you want to see any changes. I''m quite content with the system, but I only know how it works in theory. It might be different when I actually put it to use. Please make sure to type in your preferec character in either this "Author Chats" or Chapter 1. Thank you.
