《Wechsler》
Rebirth
In the Royal London Hospital during the year of 2017 a man, old, very old and tired due to the stress of movement on his body lay breathing heavily with a dim light in his weary patially blind brown eyes as his body shut down, he had lived a long life, a life full of experience evident by his heavily scarred body, he had family, great grandkids whom he loved and loved him, his second wife died some two and a half decades ago and all but his youngest daughter still lived though she was at the age of 64 and in an elderly persons care home so he had nobody at his bedside, well, his decendants able to walk visited about 2 hours ago but he was leaving this world soon, he could feel it.
Lewis sighed staring at the ceiling of the room, he had his own room, this was due to his status with his high position back when he was in the army and his knighthood, the man had even been visited by the queen, the bed he lay on was truly uncomfortable, it was like resting his head on a rock covered by cardboard and very thin cotton, Lewis tried to reposition his head in hoped of fining a more comfortable placement for his elderly head but alas he had not the energy.
wriggling his toes the best he could manage Lewis remembered his time in the war after getting injured in the legs and having to learn to walk again and let out a grunt of annoyance, he could wiggle his toes yet he couldnt move his head, debating which was more important to hims Lewis decided that his toes were more important to be mobile, should he lose control of them he would truly feel.. old.
resigning himself to the uncomfortableness of his pillow and the paper thin clinically blue sheets that the hospital have had for as many decades as he can remember completely he awaited the cold embrace of the lady Death, you see Lewis had always thought of death as a woman because if he was going to be collected by anyone, even as a soul, he would like it to be a beautiful woman.
he didnt have to live long before he could no longer feel his toes, Lewis felt his hart slowing to a stop and a feeling of cold overtook him, he could hear his heart moniter flatline and several footstepps before his vision turned black "time of death 03:23PM" he heard the doctor say before his hearing followed his sight and all his senses stopped working, there was nothing, just darkness, the cold had gone away just as quickly as it came and now there was nothing, just an endless blackness, not even a feeling of floating, it was a very strange feeling.
-
Lewis spend god, or whatever was out there''s knows how long inside what he came to know as the void, because, well thats what it was, there was nothing but his consiousness and the endless blackness.
eventually Lewis found himself in a clearing, he did not see a light and move into it, he did not meet a god and get reincarnated with special abilities, there was no special transition, he just appeared, that was the veiw of it should someone who was already there have seen but dor Lewis himself, one moment the void, and the next a very green clearing in a forest, the clearing was circular and the ground seeming scorched with the circular zone being around the area size a carousel would take up, there were scorched bones and skulls around and the trees on the edge of the zone had burn marks, the bones were numerous and accompanying skulls, most of the bones and skulls were human like but much shorter and the skulls were too deformed to be human and some even had short tusks.
the trees and shrubbery around the zone were full of life, the plants so green that some resembled a plant growing large emeralds, Lewis looked around curiously, and there were many things looking back at him, squirrels, birds and many creatures that were either new to him, or looked like altered forms of those he knew, looked through the shrubbery curiously and some while seeing if he was a threat others were seeing if he was food.Did you know this story is from Royal Road? as the man who died got a grasp on his surroundings he looked down at his own body to see nothing , he tried to walk forward but found he lacked legs and urged himself forward and ended up rushing his invisible and probably floating form into a tree but found he passed straight through, seeing the inside of a tree was fun and all but Lewis was becoming really confused, he turned around and floated back to the clearing, though he didnt know how he did it without a body he just willed it, there was nothing left in the clearing except scortched boned of heavily disfigured short humanoids and one female human that seemed to lay in the centre just under where he himself awoke.
Lewis floated in the centre of the clearing which he awoke in, he was a little irked at his ability to sit, there was no reason for his annoyance as he expended no effort standing and his body, or whatever it was, was unable to tire so there would be unable to sit, though Lewis claimes that it help him think speaking the thought aloud as he was talkign to himself as he discovered he could voice his thoughts even though he had no mouth or vocal chords.
- Lewis pov
I looked around at my surroundings, the various creatures had noticed a few hours ago that their predators were in the same place as them looking at the same thing as them and freaked out causing the predators to notice them and a fight broke out, though for they stayed out of the scorched zone for whatever reason.
lewis thought about his predicament, he had seen a beetle throw blades of wind at a bird earlier suspected magic to exist and in the past he had read many fictions, light novels and web novels, many with reincarnation and rebirth though most involve a godess and cheat powers or a truck but still the world he found himself in could be similar to those he read about, and so he called out

First possession and first skills
Lewis had a strange look on his face as he watched the floating blue screen that showed his status, he found it amazing, a second chance at life, in such an fantastical world was a divine blessing. Lewis assumed that this world is a classic fantasy world, the likes of novels and movies, with goblins and ogres and monsters to elves and dwarves and dragons, the technology level would probably be low, medeval at best but much of it made up for by the presence of magic.
lewis decided to test his new abilities, he investigated his surroundings following every movement with inquisitive eyes, soon he discovered that the creatures that he saw had small or large blue orbs, like small fires burning inside them, and Lewis could somehow see that.
He also discovered he could turn it off at will and summoning all his knowledge of magical and fantasy worlds he theorised that these were either the magical cores of the creatures or they were the souls.
Lewis floated over to the shrubbery and seeing a rather small blue orb in a rather fruitfull berry bush he searched for what encased it, finding a large wasp, more like a hornet from earth that had a brown body with black patches, it was seated upon a leaf Lewis attempted to reach out to it and suddenly a pale blue semitransparent arm came into his vision and touched the creature, the wasp then pased out and fell to the forest floor unconsious.
Lewis then experimented with his body, if he could create an arm, surely he could create everything else, well a body or a humanoid figure at least, and he did, after about half an hour of pure agonising concentration he did it, he looked like he once did at 20 years of age though he was significantly more transparent, and more blue than the last time he appeared as he did.
the wasp he had touched had awoken and buzzed of some time ago so he had to go looking for something else to experiment on, it wasnt hard to find something and even though there were insects everywhere and he even came across rodents every now and then, the first thing he tried was a squirrel, after many unsucessful attempts at getting close to the creatures off the forest Lewis discovered that he could make himself invisible to them ''it must be because I dont have a body'' he thought while pondering the reason, actually he discovered that he was invisible to them by default which also made sense as normal mortals cannot see spirits, it would seem either something made him visible when he awoke or he was wanting to be seen for some reason, the going theory was it was some sort of instinct but he was unsure.
floating through the forest Lewis decided he liked his new form, for the simple reason that he doesnt tire, no matter the length he floats there is no need to rest or relieve himself, but its a bit boring, boring in the sense that he has no sense of smell , had no sense of touch or taste but somehow he can hear thing properly without real ears, he can see without eyes, though seeing for him was like a flying camera or eye, how was that supposed to work?, he hda no idea, his new form often confused him greatly.
-
it was finally time to try out his new posession ability without being distracted by something else such as learning to make a body.
Lewis floated across the forest floor searching for something to posess, there were many insects but he wanted to posess something bigger ''learning to walk on six or eight legs would be a lot harder than four'' he thought to himself as he stopped taking notice of the insects, he soon spotted a wood mouse though it seemed abnormally larger than its species was supposed to be, rushing forward at a speed faster than the average human would be capable of and grabbing at the life form with his pale blue transparent hands as he attempted posession but the hand passed through the body but the blue orb moved around inside the body as he pushed it though he quickly decided he wouldnt try to extract it from the body as he doesnt know what would happen and so he didnt try to pull it out, while moving the soul around the animals body it seemed to become deeply disturbed seemingly in excruciating pain as it writhed an the ground squeeking, Lewis had no way to measure how much pain it was experiencing but just watching was a profound experience. The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

posess the body and force the soul into a backseat position.
absorb the soul and take the body.
note: this message is only a one time thing because it is your first time coming in contact with another soul without being distracted.

Lewis picked the last option, and quickly his vision blured quickly turning to black, suddenly many feeling assaulted him, he began living a life but not one he could control, he lived 3 lives in his mind that were just a few seconds outside, this was the lives the soul had lived, it seemed that by consuming a soul he could also absorb its past lives as well as the one it was currently living, though he could only absorb the memories from them and not the stats and skills, the mouse previous lives were as a squirrel and as a fox, then he had abilities and their uses as well as how to execute them rush into his mind, to him it felt like hours but it was mere seconds to everyone else, a truly undiscribable experience.

after absorbing the sould Lewis felt himself slump and come in contact with the ground, it was a feeling of relief and forced him to let out a breath that he was unaware he was holding and the blue screens disappeared when he wanted to, quickly Lewis got himself back together and stood up on all fours relishing the feeling of having his feet on the ground he tried to run only to fall over being a stranger to quadrupedal movement he looked down at his hands, or, claws and realised he was a mouse, eyes widening comically he almost snapped his neck searching for predators, Lewis had once spent a long time in the wild watching such creatures, so he knew the dangers of the wild fairly well, and at the moment he was at the bottom of the food chain.
Lewis hid under the shrubbery hoping to avoid any aerial predators that could spot him though that leaves him at risk still to snakes, spiders and other things that hide in the bush, and with the world he found himself in being one of magic and monsters, then gods knows what else here is a danger to him, the thought made him weary, weary of everything, even the bush he hid under, quickly he began digging the passive skill of dig kicked in and the was he moved the earth was full of efficiency and experience, lewis dug far down, or at least far for a mouse with his main chamber being 6 ft down, he created a chamber for sleeping in, a chamber for eating in, and a chamber for shitting in, the tunnel system was rather long to get there so he decided to make a few others i nthe case that if an intruder entered one of them he could escape through another.
it took half a day to fully complete his new home, he used grass and leaves as bedding in his sleeping chamber and had the shitting room moved a lot further away from the sleeping room and lowered farther into the ground, this is for multiple reasons, the first being the smell, there would be no way to get the smell out so he made ventrs for it to the surface and as he would be using it as a wast disposal, animals may be attracted by the scent of dead creatures so the tunnel to it would be collapsed until he had to get to is ''its a little inconvenient but it will be eaasy once I get earth magic'' he thought, since the world was obviously a fantasy world and he had witnessed wind magic he knew others must exist and so earth magic probably did too, he had always wanted to make the earth move to his will and so it was one of his top goals.
"Hunting"
Lewis opened his heavy eyelids and looked around with tired eyes, standing up he realised for the first time how lucky he was at this second chance, he stretched out enjoying the freedom of his limbs being fully functional, something that he had lost several years ago back on earth due to his old age and frequent blood clots, though the fact he was unable to walk upright bothered him greatly.
The rumbling in his stomach made him realise that his body desires food ¡®why did I have to get a body¡¯ he groaned to himself at the thought of having to do the troublesome tasks of supplying the body with fuel in the form of food and drink or excreting waste, in his opinion it was a waste of time, oh he likes food and drink but he doesn''t like having to do it, he would rather do it when he likes, well at least he had control of when he relieved himself now, he wasn''t so lucky in the last body, shivering at the thought Lewis got up on all fours and made his way through the lengthy tunnels he had constructed the previous day, walking on four legs was still new to him and he still fell over after, so he resigned himself to getting some practice before trying to hunt in it.
-
After a few hours of falling over, getting back up and falling over again Lewis managed to get the hang of walking in this new body, even though it took him almost an hour to get out of his home under the bush, Lewis still feared heading out from under the bush in fear of predators, while birds may not be able to fly too well with all the trees they weren''t the only threat, lewis looked out into the forest with a cautious gaze as if accusing it of plotting against him.
Lewis didn''t want to try venturing out there, he had seen what happens to animals who take such risks time and time again many times in the past, and in a world of magic the risk is much greater, so he turned around and looking at the leaf covered hole that was the doorway to his home he sighed, before a glint of light entered his eyes at remembering where he got the leaves from, he looked up at the car sized bush he had positioned his home under and jumped grabbing a hold of a very bright red berry that hung from the end of the branch that strained as it was pulled to the ground by his weight, Lewis twisted around in hopes of dislodging the berry, it took quite the effort and when they finally separated the bush branch flung into the air and Lewis slumped to the floor panting the berry at half his size sat at his side as he recovered from the ordeal. If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Getting up Lewis sunk his small teeth into the juicy red berry breaking the berry skin with a crisp snapping like noise similar to taking a bite out of an apple. Quickly Lewis had finished the berry leaving behind the leaf at it''s top and he checked his surroundings for predators or prey when suddenly a sick feeling entered his git and his vision went dark, lewis had many expletives running through his mind as his head hit the floor.
With heavy breaths Lewis opened his eyes and found that his vision had turned green ¡®no, no it''s night!¡¯ he exclaimed in his mind panicking and looking around for threats with his night vision, lewis sent a dirty glare at the remains of the berry as a window popped up

''fucking berries'' he cursed in his mind and swearing to burn down the damned bush when he either moved or had a way to protect his home better.
Still pissed at the bush, the berry and himself for not being cautious enough to foresee this, lewis turned grumpily towards his home only to come eye to eye, or eyes with eight blood red beads or hunger that struck fear into his soul, it was a spider, no spider is the wrong word for it, it was more of a monster, in size at least towering over him and most cats and small dogs, the thing was the size of a hound, rearing back it let out an unearthly screech bearing two silvery fangs the size of a grown mans ring finger dripping with a yellow coloured venom before all 8 slender spearlike limbs moved in sync charging at him with naught but hunger in it''s eyes.
hardships
The monster reached him in almost no time at all, Lewis jumped to the side as one of it''s pointed spearlike legs descended towards his head and instead made a deep indentation into the ground, Lewis quickly decided it was kill or be killed after he saw that the spider had lay a wall of web around their battleground, presumably so he could not escape and so no other predators could enter, Lewis jumped at the monster grabbing onto one of it''s back legs, he bit into its joints to try and detach one and slow it down to give him more time to figure something out while the sharp edge of the monsters natural armour and found he could not even scratch it while trying to bite through it''s trochanter.
Lewis was flung from his place on the spider''s leg by another leg hitting him from the side and severing one of his back legs from his body, Lewis let out a shriek of pain but managed to get back to his feet, and dodged strikes from the beast over and over again until finally his legs fave way and the monsters front leg came down impaling him through the back, the creature''s fangs struck down into his neck area shredding the body and Lewis felt like what he imagined the airbag of a car to feel like as he was ejected by the body.
His bodiless spirit flew from the marred form of the wood mouse and curved around with fury etched onto his face Lewis grabbed the soul of the beast before ripping it from the body causing the beast to stiffen up and let out a horrid screech before dropping to the floor lifeless, it''s blood red eyes now a milky white.
Absorbing the soul Lewis relieved 46 years as a giant spider, from escaping the egg sack to attacking humans who enter its cave and then he learned the beasts skills

Lewis let out a small (the best a spider could) at the realisation that he would have to learn to walk and move around on 8 legs and not just that legs without much surface area on the ground, it would be like walking on 8 flexible sword/spears, it took him a few moments before he managed to stand up on all legs, and about half an hour to walk around though falling over was a common occurrence, as soon as he figured out what he was doing to a decent extent he moved to his tunnel and realising that he was much too big to fit at the moment he let out a scream of frustration.
Digging with the arachnid legs was a lot more difficult than with the mouse limbs though after using his dig skill it was much much easier, and the entrance was now a lot bigger than it once was being the size of which he would easily be able to drag a cow into it, he worked himself to exhaustion renovating his tunnels and other exits, they were all much bigger now and while that meant more and bigger things could get in he had created more exits and moved his main 3 chambers further down though he had a plan for them.
After resting through the night Lewis woke up in a terrible mood at the thought of having to get used to a new body, he quickly tried to learn about his new skills finding the ability of producing web and getting his poison to come out of his fangs easy, it was instinctual like you would not need to learn how to take a piss or spit, he automatically knew and quietly thanked the gods for his ability to absorb memories and experience.
After getting a hang on his new abilities Lewis began lining the walls and floor of the tunnels with webbing, all of it leading back to the main chamber, they were made so that if a foot was stepped on even one thread or just one was destroyed than he would know about it. Lewis then decided to go hunting, while he could wait for a creature to helplessly wander into his tunnels and eat that he decided he would rather find something to eat now and then he is assured sustenance.
-
Lewis sat on his soft silk bedding, the underground home was dark, with no light inside but due to Lewis,s night vision he could see perfectly, though everything had a green tint.
Lewis gorged himself on the carcasses of killed deer he had found hunting in the forest, he had gotten few skills from them, after learning to absorb their souls while inside a body, it took a few hours of toying around with a crippled doe to figure it out, Lewis had gotten the passive skill trample that gives +25% damage while trampling and from a buck he gained the passive skill charge that adds +25% speed when charging, predators he had come across out there were owls, wolves and a bear, even though he had not tried to fight one yet, Lewis also saw a few short humanoid figured vaguely while in the forest but they were quite a distance from him so he couldnt see them properly and they were in rather large numbers, also he was quite tired after hunting for the day at the time so he didn''t want to investigate it, but he assumed there is probably some humanoid species village or town around somewhere near, though he could be wrong it was worth looking for.
Investigation
Seeing as a spider was in itself quite hard to get used to, though Lewis took to it better than he did walking, he was quite grateful for it, the 360 vision had saved him from many sneaky wolves even while they may be quite a bit smaller than him and hardly dangerous a few bites from their jaws at least from the bigger ones could break through his carapace, luckily he healed fast though, he also discovered direwolves who the normal wolves often followed were a thing, though most weren''t as big as game of thrones showed but larger than wolves nonetheless, most of the creatures in the forest were similar to their earth counterparts though he found they could grow normal then the normality on earth, there were even some who grew abnormally large even for here and their skin harder, some even began to use elemental magic.
Of course lewis had only fought a few of these though only wolves and direwolves, it seems more prominent in them, and the ones who had developed abnormally he found magical cores inside of them, eating them had proved fruitful as it added power to his own core, and absorbing their souls he had gained an affinity for wind, earth and fire magic in the few days since he gained the ¡®spider¡¯ body though no new skills as he had only feasted on wolves and they were also the only ones who dared try and enter his tunnels.
Lewis found himself the apex predator of this forest, well one of them, he wasn''t sure how well he would stand up to bears, especially ones touched by magic, Lewis also found that absorbing souls increased his spiritual power, while some of the larger and more sentient creatures he had found often tried to resist his taking their souls and he struggled with some of them or even downright couldnt take them but found his increase of spiritual power made it easier for him to take the souls of the more resistant creatures.
Once a creature was dead there were tops 10 minutes before the soul begins to wander, to where? He didn''t know but he could take souls of the dead easily, or souls of the recently dead, he had come across ghost like apparitions which he theorised were souls of human that stuck around too long or came back for whatever, unfortunately he couldnt talk to them as they perceived him as a threat and flew off somewhere whenever he attempted to approach, a downside of his new form, he is a lot less approachable.
-
Lewis leaped through the tall trees, jumping from one to another, quietly following the group of goblins that he had found wandering the forest in their loincloths hunting horned rabbits and they even caught a fire boar, the black colouration of his strong steel-like carapace all but cancelling out his visibility and fusing him with the night, his stealth skills gained from the mouse and added to from the spider itself made it all but silent making his way through the forest even he was massive, the size of a horse in fact, he had originally though even with the sneak skill he would make a loud noise doing such an activity but ¡®I guess I underestimated it¡¯ he thought with a shrug.
The goblins led Lewis to a small village, a goblin village obviously by the primitive way it was build, though Lewis could assume that was the level all buildings were at in this world, he highly doubted it, a group of 6 buildings some larger than others their placement had no order, there was a small wooden fence of crudely whittled stakes sticking out of the ground, with nothing binding them together either, the goblins seemed to have one large fire that they cooked their food on, he was slightly surprised they knew how to do that but quickly he mentally berated himself for underestimating the inhabitants of this new world, doing such during battle could prove fatal. The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
Lewis watched their leader, a slightly more human looking goblin who stood taller with less of a savage look to him, and while the goblins had browned murky yellow eyes, this ones were more of a clear yellow, he could see the difference in intelligence between the two types of monster by both the way he carried himself, held his weapon and the difference was easily seen in his eyes.
The goblins had numbers at around mid 20s though he couldnt see those inside he did pick up voices, grunting and panting in one of the larger buildings and he could guess what was going on inside, while he could smell rotting meat in another of the poorly constructed shacks, the buildings were made of wood, straw and mud, most were small with the smallest being the size of a garden shed and the largest being the size of a medium sized cabin.
Lewis then decided he would be killing them, their souls may offer some more insight into this world, now how to go about doing it, he could always just charge in and kill them all, their primitive stone spears were nothing compared to the teeth of a direwolf in the forest, and they took a few bites to break his natural armour so they couldnt do much to him at all unless they targeted his eyes or mouth but he doubted that they were smart enough to think of that, the only real threat would be their leader whom he assumed is probably a hobgoblin, so he would be his first target.
Quickly Lewis jumped from the tree he was hiding behind passing straight over their meager defences as his pointed legs created deep indentations in the ground, all the goblins turned to look at him and the doors of some of the shacks opened revealing many curious ugly faces and quickly the forest green complexion they sported changed to a pale jade as they blanched from fear and he even began to smell urine, disgusted with a sneer of contempt lewis began cleaving his way towards the hobgoblin all goblins in his path being either flung away from the force of his blows or bisected by the blades on his front two legs, blood was painting the grounds as he moved and he quickly reached the hobgoblin who as Lewis expected was smart enough to aim for his weak points.
The hobgoblin thrust his spear towards lewis eyes but the shaft was cut in two by Lewis front leg and the evolved goblin revealed an expression of horror before blood spurted from where the monsters head had been just a few moments prior.
Lewis made short work of the rest of the goblins, and then absorbed their souls learning a lot about the surrounding area and got a basic spear proficiency skill as well as the goblin language and 38 years worth of memories, turns out none of the goblins were aged over 4 with the hobgoblin being an exception at 6 years old, he than searched the shacks.
Searching them lewis found most empty with a few shitty made straw beds, one of them contained rancid meat and the catch they got from hunting before Lewis followed them here, he left it believing it contaminated, even if he was probably resistant to the stuff he wouldn''t eat it, just because he''s now a spider doesn''t mean he no longer had standards.
Entering the last house he found 3 girls in ripped and torn rags, their bodies filled with cuts and bruises, they were tied up against the wall, none of them seemed to notice him as they stared of into space with blank misty eyes, they lay covered in blood and mud as well as their own piss, shit and copious amounts of smelly and slimy bodily fluids that stuck to the floor, lewis felt a great pity for them swell up inside him before it went away, he had seen this before, quite a bit in the war, mentally sighing lewis put them out of their misery plucking their souls from their bodies and consuming them, causing their already limped forms to lose the last signs of life in their eyes, Lewis spent then spent the next 3 hours reliving the lives of the girls, the horror and fear at being raped was awful, Lewis had been tortured before but this was the most vile thing he had ever experience, one of the girls was from nobility, she had been kidnapped from a raid on a caravan while the other two were villagers, the noble was aged 13 while the other two were 16 and 21.
Lewis came out of the experience feeling sick but he got himself together quickly though now very unwell, he wrapped the nobles body in his silk and dragged her outside before setting the shack alight creating a ball of flames in the liquefying poison gland in his mouth before firing it at the shack, he than dragged the wrapped up body back home, he would have uses for her.
preparing
Lewis scuttled through his tunnels, walking on his web covered flaws was much easier than walking on dirt, his web was stronger than steel as Lewis could imbue it with magical properties, such as an abnormal strength or elasticity, the cave would only be temporary though as he got used to influencing souls while in a body and maybe even controlling them, the girl nobles body would be useful, but he feared the girl''s injuries, he didn''t know what damage it could have done to the body inside.
Well he knew what happened to the body and how bad it was because he felt it, and felt sick about it every time he did remember it, But while Lewis could very well heal or start to heal whatever damages there may be to the inside of the body, there were two problems, the first being that Lewis couldnt even examine the body to determine what is wrong because of his physique, the second being Lewis couldnt even hope to begin treating it in his current body. So he decided to get a body more practical for the job.
Lewis disembodied himself with a loud thud from the giant arachnid dropping to the floor, returning to the goblin village in wraith form didn''t take too long as he could pass through objects and fly as well as move much faster then even in spider form.
Reaching the village Lewis grew annoyed at himself and mentally started berating himself about how he should have foreseen this. The land of the village was covered in rats, where there were not wolves feeding on the bodies there were rats, and a really annoying amount of flies which while they can''t see, touch or bother him still annoyed him greatly.
Realising that he couldnt take any bodies from here, lewis decided to test his ability on controlling soul, instead of reaching out with his hand, Lewis created tendrils of soul energy and wrapped them around a rats soul, taking all it''s memories and skills but the rat still retained the soul though now under Lewis command, grinning Lewis began to test what he could do finding he had complete control over them only widened his grin, Lewis kept on testing his abilities with the rats and found he could control 50 rats at any one time and larger animals were harder to take control of such as wolves were an equivalent of 25 rats.
Lewis decided to try something more complicated, ripping a soul from a wolf''s body with moderate resistance he forced it into that of a rat, though the rat''s body was soulless as Lewis didn''t want to risk something going wrong if he put two souls in the same body, he will test it at some point but he desired to test the simpler things first, Lewis observed as the rat woke up disorientated, after observing the rat for half an hour Lewis decided that the wolf was experiencing what he experienced when he enters a new body without the basic knowledge of what he was doing and without the rats memories and skill to help getting used to the body, the wolf soul was very confused with the experienced but got used to it after a while, seeing no use in killing it Lewis let the confused thing scamper off into the brush.Did you know this story is from Royal Road? Read the official version for free and support the author.
Using the 50 rats under his control Lewis could see through all of their eyes simultaneously, it was very confusing and headache inducing at first but he got used to it after a while, Lewis suspected he had a very adaptable soul, he sent the rats scattering about the forest to look for other humanoid creatures, he found trolls, ogres and even some humans but lewis thought his spirit power wouldn''t be enough to possess humans or others at such levels of sentience, or if he could it would be hard.
Eventually a rat found another goblin village, Lewis wanted to get his humanoid body fast and get back to his home and fix the girl''s body, the reason is because the longer he waited the sooner it will begin to decompose and he didn''t want to even imagine possessing a decomposing body as Lewis was allergic to pain and he assumed it would be rather painful.
Lewis got there fast, it seemed absorbing souls did increase his spiritual power which increases his power as a wraith and since after finding the goblin village he consumed the souls of all the rats his spiritual power increased by 12% making him 6% faster and it was a little noticeable, he arrived at the village quickly and found it quite a bit larger than the last with their numbers nearing the three digits.
Entering the badly made buildings first Lewis found more women and in the rancid food stores this time he found bodies of men and children with it, the glassy eyed women Lewis found were too far gone and all of them lowborn so no use to him, he did take their souls which increased his spiritual power by a lot, he idly wondered if he could absorb magical power in a similar way but put off that experiment for a later date.
Lewis found the boss of the goblin village, he was a hobgoblin in leather armour and a short iron spear that he assumed they had taken from the dead men in the ¡®food¡¯ rooms with it''s skin having a slight infectious orange tint to it, Lewis rushed forward and barged himself into the body quickly subduing the shocked soul and consumed it, from the outside the body fell to it''s knees and it''s eyes became white before returning back to their sinister yellow though having a slight crimson tint to them now.
Standing up Lewis looked down at his orange tinted green hands and cringed at the way his body worked, his eyesight was awful, his teeth and mouth felt slimy and very unclean at the touch of his tongue and his teeth were yellowed and very uncared for though he supposed he shouldn''t expect human standard hygiene of monsters.
Lewis looked around the large village and decided not to try and attack it just yet, all that would get him is new souls and he wasn''t entirely used to the new body and fighting them would just be troublesome.
He then started to think, while he may have the memories and soul of the girl and in a way they were now the same person, it could be difficult to get the the family to believe it was her after all the differences there was between them, Lewis found it hard to differentiate between himself and the girl and stopped trying after a while, it would be easier that way anyway, he decided he could put the differences in personality that her family would observe down to the girls traumatic experiences from being a prisoner of goblins and all endured in their captivity.
Lewis was glad that he knew the family to be nice people, he was aware that many noble families would kill or disown their daughters for being violated especially by goblins, but Lewis new them to be nicer than that, they would treat him/ her not that differently maybe more protective though and he decided that letting them know about the captivity was a good idea to mask the difference since last they saw her.
repurcussions
Lewis was pleased with himself, after getting back to the tunnels he had found the body had extensive injuries around the crotch area and within, the goblins had been rough with her and he knew there was damage done from giving birth to two goblins both Lewis had killed when destroying the village but he was able to get it to heal to a point he wasn''t so afraid of taking over the body, there was still an immense pain once taking control but she managed to bear it, standing she groaned at the mortal bodies susceptibility to the temperature.
Her name was kaelin nomdus or the body was before he/she consumed it and she decided to go by the name once more at least while within her new/old body, the webbing of the tunnels wasn''t many obstructions as the new body seemed just as able to traverse it as the spiders which she was very glad for.
Kaelin then decided she would begin making clothes from her silk, she had been taught how to sew and things such as that, it was part of a noble lady''s duties so she remembered being taught it from an early age, or an early age of one of the lives she lives, it confused her she was Lewis but at the same time she was a nameless arachnid monster and Kaelin all at the same time, she knew her situation but felt she was also changed.
She had also noticed that her spirit form had changed, she didn''t have mirrors so she had to appear in front of an animal and absorb its soul seeing herself through its memories and while she neither looked like Lewis or Kaelin she had an androgynous look, her male leaning had drawn closer to a middle ground, the body becoming androgynous, having the build and muscle definition of a male but seemed to hold a grace and softness that usually found itself more on females.
The body had changed as well, her hair turned from a warm brownish colour with a soft warm feeling to it into a platinum/white colour but now an aged grey that the elderly develop but white and feeling like silk, very very soft, her eyes had turned from a soft hazel into a crimson red, a mixture of blood and hellfire something that frustrated her to no ends causing her to throw out many of her plans and begin formulating new ones trying to think up ways to explain the appearance change until she realised she could manipulate it at will.
Kaelin stayed in the tunnel home for 2 months to get used to the body though it really took less than an hour due to all the memories of the female body she had but really she stayed to experiment.
Soon after she began heading towards where she remembered the nearest village to be, she was very very far from any cities or towns but there were some remote villages nearby, she observed the surroundings with a smile, in her life as Lewis she had learned to have an appreciation for the world, at one point she watches amused as a rat barked at a dear, though the deer didn''t look impressed and Kaelin moved on before she could witness the outcome.Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
The height of the current body did get on her nerves a little though, while not as small as the goblins most of her bodies or her preferred bodies were tallied, it shortened her field of vision and lessened her reach and the body itself was much less trained to wield weapons, another reason why she spent two months back at the tunnels, to hone her body and make sure it was healed, while the body was indeed 13 years of age sexual interactions with it on the goblins part seemed to have sped up puberty and the breasts got in the way of some movements she was used to making as Lewis in his younger years and as a goblin and the animals but she quickly adapted.
Finding the village was easy using Wraith form to fly above the trees she could see it easily with enhanced eyesight, the village was more civilised than the goblins and she was very glad the place was no bandit encampment which was pretty obvious because it was very clearly a permanent set of buildings.
Kaelin saw it was paved with cobbled roads, it had a wooden gatehouse and wooden wall of spiked logs around it with wooden guard towers around the perimeter wall, she assumed it was probably first a temporary military encampment which has been taken over by the native people making a village out of it.
She then returned to her body and began walking towards where she saw the village, her white finely made expensive looking dress made her nobility obvious as she walked towards the small town she thought over what she would tell the villagers when she arrived, she would have to either borrow a raven from one of the villagers to send a letter to her family or possess a raven herself and take the letter herself after finding a secure place to leave the body she was currently residing in.
Suddenly Kaelin fell to the floor panting heavily her face contorted in pure agony as memories flashed through her head, memories from all of the girls captured by goblins, memories or being beaten, raped and some very very damaging childbirths stood out most prominently, it felt like it lasted hours to her but in reality it was a mere 30 second span, those were a common occurrence for her though it was not always the girls or rapes though they were the ones that left her throwing up or having a severe distaste in her mouth for many hours.
Others consisted of many injuries taken by the souls before they either dies, were killed or had their souls torn from them, another thing he experienced through memories or dreams and it hurt awfully, it was a pain that you never got used to as bad maybe worse than rape in terms of violation and kaelin found herself developing a deep sense of paranoia and fear of anything and everything that moves.
She found herself suppressing her emotions to a great degree and most of her decisions didn''t include emotional thought being very logical.
Kaelin walked up a short hill, it was quite the distance from the forest now and she was hoping that the village was near, her back hurt falling over from the... daymare?, she had landed on the root of a tree and hurt her back which annoyed her greatly with a scowl etched onto her pale face she reached the top of the hill and saw a large village, much better then the goblins she had encountered.

Kaelin entered the village looking around curiously at the humans of this world in their natural environment, it seems she was indeed correct that the technology level of the humans of this world was primitive, perhaps somewhere between what would be the 900s-1000s on earth, there was livestock moving about on the muddy roads, mostly chickens and she saw a few dogs and cats, she passed a small blacksmith shop where she could see a young man in dirty ragged clothing bringing a hammer down onto a strip of metal forcing a clanging sound.
She made her way to a local tavern and entered through bulky wooden door attracting gazes from a few burly filthy looking men as she entered most of them holding drinks, their attention lingered on her and her silky clothing which was made from her webbing though most of their gazes quickly turned back to their drinks, the men looked to be workers for most of them and criminals for others.Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. She approached the counter where the tavern owner was pouring a drink for a customer, she arrived just as the customer left though she had the unpleasant experience of smelling the air as he passed and almost gagged.
She asked the guard a few questions about the village and while he was weary and curious of her she convinced him into thinking a young girl could not do much harm and skillfully avoided questions about herself, she was offered a drink but after a quick glance her curious look had turned to a revolted look as the watched the swirling syrupy sludge that they called ale.
She left the inn afterwards and avoided people to her best ability, she had learned from the tavern owner that there was a detachment of soldiers from the nearest city to deal with the local goblin issue though she had dealt with the goblins already they didn''t know that and she wasn''t about to tell them for the reason that she wanted to hitch a ride with them back to the city they came from.
