《Field of blood》 Chapter 1: Ultimate Sacrifice Blood has always been an intriguing subject. Especially when I was a child. It¡¯s the iconic life source of all mortals. The symbolic red liquid the continuity of life and also its end. Its ties even reach to that of murder. When Cain slaughtered Abel, when life speeds out of the man¡¯s eyes, the first murderer could clearly see the crimson stains that tainted his visions. His hands were colored red that day and humanity with him. I gingerly rubbed the continuously dripping liquid that corrupted my once clean, pale fingers. The noises outside, both blaring and buzzing with both offers of reward and justice went deaf on my ears. Blood spatters coated the once crisp charcoal black suit. The black pants and formal shoes were dyes with an eerie crimson paint. If it wasn''t for the dripping blood, my attire would have blended into a funeral. Though I suppose it''s only fitting that the one that committed the murders of countless innocent victims would wear black. One final act of respect before separating their souls from their fragile bodies. "Are you proud of me?" I murmured, my eyes mesmerized by the red liquid that poured out of my fingertips. A barrage of sounds crashed into my ears. My body twisted, my hands instinctively feeling for the familiar metallic feeling of my only weapon. The solid comfort of my gun rested on my right hand, my eyes targeting the source of the sound. In the entrance, a variety of new characters entered my vision. Cops and demigods swam in my mind¡¯s eye. The noticeable trail of energy that their very being radiated almost blinded me. their reaction, illogical yet understanding reached their faces. The cops, trained and experienced with all manner of crimes choked in descending horror at the mutilated bodies before them. The demigods, the heroes of this forsaken Earth fared better. Barely but better nonetheless. I must commend them. It takes guts and a strong stomach to handle the sight. Though I am sure that their divine senses and enhancements helped improve their chances. Their strengths are no joke. My eyes traced one of the newly discovered heroes drawing his weapon. Oh, my. Click. The hero paused. The familiar metallic feel intimately met my skull. Did their parents ever tell them to respect the dead? XXX I never understood the need for heroes to dress differently from cops. It''s like demigods have a certain need to feel special and while they certainly are, the unique clothing had several cons that they can''t properly take care of. Though I suppose that being blessed by a divine deity would give them certain benefits that would counter this. I honestly don''t know or care. I inspected the demigod closely. A gray form-fitting suit coated a male body. A sword of some kind was attached to his back along with a blindfold that hid his eyes. Despite this, I couldn''t help but feel as if he was watching me.This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. One of them stepped closer. A female this time. She eyed my appearance warily. Her eyes, however, watched my gun with an almost zealous glare. "I don''t suppose I could ask you to raise both your hands up while we read you your rights?" "You supposed correctly." My voice aired out dryly. The woman sighed before hardening her glare towards me. Her form tensed but she didn''t move. I would rather think that was a wise choice on her part. Another dead body would have joined this already gloomy atmosphere if she moved. I was going to do it anyways. They don''t know that, however. "It''s a shame then," the blind man continued the conversation. His tone was idler than the woman yet more firm. "We were willing to pay a ransom for the release of your prisoners." His voice became void of emotion. "Alive." I scoffed. "Indeed and I am sure that you all were willing to let me go after I get paid this ''handsome'' reward." "Perhaps." His voice shifted back into a more idle tone. "Though I am afraid that we will never know." "It is a shame." My finger pressed lightly on the trigger. The heroes tensed at my action. I gave a grim smile. "That you do not understand." "Then help us understand." Curiosity yet caution filled his voice. He gripped tightly on his sword. "What is your motive here? You hit a bank, kill every single innocent life in the room then proceed to aim your gun at yourself." "Think back to what you just said." I gave a smirk. I watched as he silently contemplated his words. "Now give me your conclusion." The blind man grit his teeth. "You''re insane." I hummed silently before shaking my head. "Not quite." "An extremist. One of those cult fanatics." The disgust in his voice was evident. "Warmer." I nodded. "Though not warm enough." I could feel the heat of his glare from here. "I have no clue." "It''s because you simply do not understand." I gave a throaty chuckle. "Do you easily think that any amount of money can ease a dying man?" The dots connected. "Suicidal with the motive of taking as many lives as possible." The hero''s mouth twisted into an ugly expression. It seems he understood my plans. Not all of it but he''s close enough for me to worry. I bowed in a grandiose fashion, the comfortable weight of my gun still pointing at my skull. I gave one final smile. Tonight, I offer up a prayer. A prayer filled with blood. Oh god, oh lord, oh mighty judge of death, tonight I offer a token of gratitude. Will you reject me still after this festival of murder? The demigod seemed to have predicted my actions. His sword flashed in the night as he moved at speeds no human can match. To me, everything moved in slow motion. As my finger finally pressed the trigger, only one thought breached my mind. "Are you proud of me now?" And with this, I offer up the ultimate sacrifice. I never understood the need for people to dress like it meant anything. Here I am dressed in a black suit that fits their rules of a civilized society but on the inside, I will never be one of them. I wonder if they would accept me if they saw me sitting here drenched in the blood of their wife''s and children. Here I am surrounded by the police and properly some of those annoying demigods and the only thing I can think about is the sweet smell of blood surrounding me. Some lore I should know - When they first arrived fifty years ago the world applauded them, but I was the only one that sees them for who they really are, self-proclaimed heroes who denied us paradise. But even the world knows that they are not the role models we make them out to be, they started as incomputable hero''s who fought for life but they couldn''t deny their only weakness. That they were still humans. They behave like they are the ideal being but you can tell they are flawed by only looking at the practical costumes they make for themselves and walk around like they are gods. I wonder if god enjoyed seeing them kill each other for useless things like money and power. ''Why do you still reject me?'' I heard the voice of God. Why couldn¡¯t he understand that everything I have done was because I wanted to make him proud? But even now while I''m sitting surrounded by offerings he is still not happy, what can I do to show him my love for him. What kind of offering do I need to make? If only he understood that no amount of money can replace my last offering to my god. I have killed hundreds of people but I always felt that something was missing, the last piece of the puzzle. The ultimate sacrifice. Chapter 2: Dead bodies [Interlude] The life of a demigod has never been easy. Even with all the propaganda and benefits that come with the role, if one thinks about it hard enough, it definitely isn''t worth it. Especially for the ''good'' guys. Publicity? Fame? That''s all well and good at first. People enjoy being in the limelight and newly introduced demigods get on the news as easily as celebrities. But then the job kicks in. Rampant crime. Overpowered villains. The judging and nigh-omnipotent media. Once your head''s out of the clouds, it starts becoming a gloomy world. One gets used to it all though. If there''s anything that he could confirm with certainty is that humans adapt. They''ve adapted when the concept of supernatural powers appeared and they would surely adapt now. He would have thought that he would get used to all the machinations and standards that his new life would have gifted him. Obviously, that is untrue. In fact, one could hypothesize that there will always be new things to come as long as the concept of ''magic'' or ''demigods'' is out and about. Such as now, for example. There have been better days. "What''s the damage?" He relaxed slightly as he gathered around his colleagues. A fellow new generation demigod straightened at his appearance. "We''re still counting the bodies." The grim silence afterward was palpable. Nobody expected this. No one expected a massacre of this scale and no one expected that it could have been done by someone that wasn''t a demigod. "There shouldn''t have been that many in the bank." The doubt that radiated off of one of the cops was justified. "Especially not to the scale that you''ve stated." "One of my colleagues reported the motive." He waved his hands towards the bank then towards the streets. "The man was suicidal. Possibly an extremist with ties to one of the cults. He didn''t just kill in the bank." "If you check the report, the bank was his final stop but not his only one." Another cop helpfully supplied the information. How sickening. "By the gods..." He couldn''t keep his distaste hidden as he heard the news. "What kind of man would do such a thing?" "That''s what we''re looking into right now," the cop replied. His phone was vibrating with noise as he simultaneously joined the conversation while hearing the news. "We''re getting the man''s background profile. Everything he did in public, we''re looking into. His family life? Also being checked." "We''re not leaving any stone unturned for this one." The other cop''s tone was solemn. "The media is having a field day. The public is scared and it''s our job to reassure them that it''s safe." "Easier said than done." He waved his hand at the growing crowd of spectators. It''s taking the police force to even hold them back. "With all the dead bodies here, I''m pretty sure no one''s going to leave their homes." No one''s going to believe them either. Such a shame. He could tell that these cops are doing all they can for the benefit of society. He eyed the medical team that was entering the bank. "No one was left alive. I''m not sure why you need doctors when we should be hiring detectives." "They''re not there for recovery. We''re gathering the bodies for evidence and for clues." "I''m pretty sure every single one died with a bullet in their head." "We''re looking into their profiles as well, see if there''s any other motive other than a suicidal massacre that hasn''t been seen in years." The cop rolled his eyes at the demigod''s attitude. "We''re also taking the killer''s body." "For evidence and clues as well?" "We did say we can''t leave any stone unturned." He pointed this out with efficiency as he listened to his phone. "There may be something on his clothes that could clue us in. An emblem or a symbol, anything really. It might lead us to the cult behind this." "You think it''s a cult?" He scratched his head as he pondered the conclusion. It makes sense. It was both logical and probably one of the more sensible theories. "It makes sense. No man would kill this many unless ordered by some organization." He raised his hand as if halting from any other protests. Good idea, considering that he was about to retort to his statement. "Not that I''m saying that the other scenarios aren''t possible. It''s just my beliefs." "I''m not sure if I should be concerned if such beliefs would cloud your judgment in the future." "It won''t." His assurance was both confident and comforting. He paused as he listened intently to the words of his speaker. His eyes hardened at the words. "We''ve got news." "On the killer?" "Indeed." The cop''s mouth turned into a thin line as he caught the words. He grabbed one of his subordinates with a zeal that shocked even the demigod. "Grab an ambulance and tell it to go to this address!" He frowned as he watched the cop hastily write. "More trouble?" "Yes," the chief murmured as he shoved it towards the stunned cop. "He''s killed before." Of course. He''s been in these types of situations before. The rush of adrenaline pumping through his veins as he expertly navigated through the busy crowds of pedestrians was a familiar experience. He sensed his colleague moving at the same pace. He could tell that the demigod exactly knew the location and from his hasty movements, it was urgent. Another familiar experience, shame for him to admit it, was the large crowd of civilians blocking the way to their destination. Unlike the ambulance that ran ahead of them, the civilians would do anything in their power to get their attention. The media even more so. A large wall of flesh bombarded his senses as he heard the flashing of cameras. His allied demigod clucked his tongue at the obstacle ahead of him. He had been in hundred if fights but none of the murderers and drug dealers scared him more than the reporters standing in front of him. Luckily he had Shepherd with him, he didn¡¯t know why but having the commander with him made him feel safe. "Commander, did you know that the killer had been examined by the Nightfall General Hospital twice and found him not dangerous to the society?" It was the woman from the Daily Constant. She had a smile on her face and she was enjoying the look of complete surprise. It was people like her that made the police department have a love-hate relationship with the media. It wasn¡¯t about saving lives to them, all they cared about was making headlines. But he couldn''t blame them when their own people were the once leaking information to them. With the spike of powerful criminals and new demigods being discovered every day the need for regular police had diminished over the years. This meant lower budget and no pension fund for a lot of them, which resulted in cops trying to find a meal ticket every chance they got.Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator. "The New York police department and the New York Hero association are looking into the situation but I can''t disclose anything about this situation until further evidence is acquired." He always laughed when the police used a line like that when he was younger. Like they were expecting the people not to understand the meaning behind them. If only the people of the world understood that this is real and not entertainment like the old comic books people used to read and let them do their jobs without making it so hard. The closer they got, the harder it was for him to control his body. It was the moment like this he regretted he didn¡¯t have eyes like the rest and had to feel this madness around him. [ End interlude] "What a dump!" Surprisingly, the noise of a man complaining wasn''t what I noticed first. "If it wasn¡¯t for those damn demigods..." The first thing I noticed was the heat. Then I noticed that I was noticing the heat. This would, of course, reveal that I can still sense my surroundings. Which would lead to noticing that I can still think which would only mean that I am still alive? That''s not good. Not good at all. My fingers twitched as my eyes opened at the sudden revelation. I instinctively stood up as I scanned the environment around me. My eyes spotted a man with a burly physique with tuffs of brown hairline his face like a scruffy beard. His eyes opened up in surprise at my sudden movements before watching me with a wary gaze. I instinctively reached my sides. My eyes widened at the sudden lack of comfort. Where''s my gun? My hands shook as I contemplated my current situation. The man, finally shaking out of his stupor, glared at him before switching his attention to his hands. He shook his head before grunting. "I should stop drinking." I narrowed my eyes before shifting my attention towards my appearance. The steady movement of my chest all but confirms it. I''m alive. Alive. Alive. I ignored the burning sensation around me. I ignored the fusion of skin and bone and just continued listening to the word. The world paused. A cold sensation washed over my entire my body as if being doused by a wave of cold, unrelenting water. Then came the anger. An indomitable rage surged within my body as I struggled to understand the situation. The world was dyed gray. Time itself paused as if caught in an unrelenting grip. Despite my confusion, an instinctive feeling prickled on my skin as I watched the world crawl to a halt. Even I, who have never felt the true power of a divine deity could tell that this was the work of God. My eyes widened as an ancient voice whispered into my ear. ''Kill...'' The word vibrated through me. Kill? Kill who? As if reading my thoughts, the voice answered, ''Sandra...Price.'' Then the world reverted to normal. Color, once dull and gray returned back to its vibrant state. The frozen man went into motion. Despite this, I blanched at the intervention. I noticed a glint of metal in the man''s hands. A gun. He aimed towards me. I blinked. As if on instinct, I watched it with an almost indifferent reaction. I couldn''t help but ask myself questions. Questions that I thought I knew the answer to. What would a gun do? What would it to me? The answer didn''t seem as obvious as I first thought. He fired. A dull sensation ran through me as it pierced my fragile body. I took a step back, not out of pain but surprise. I glanced at the man''s shocked face, his jaw failing to lift upwards. I shifted towards the location of my wound. It was already closing. I heard more gunfire. New sensations roared to life as I endured the barrage of bullets that coated my body. "What the hell?" The man''s voice was shaking with terror. His eyes were bloodshot with palpable fear. "Shooting someone you just met isn''t really polite." I waved away the injuries with an almost nonchalant air. "Y-You''re one of them, aren''t you." The anger and disgust in his words were evident. "You''re one of those freaks." "Calling someone you just met a freak isn''t polite either." I shrugged as I inspected my form. New knowledge swam through my mind as I watched my wounds close. Abilities and power the like of which I have never seen imprinted into my mind. Regeneration, superhuman strength, and more coursed through my veins. "Go to hell!" More gunshots rang into the air as it trailed after me. I have a nasty smirk as it punctured through my injured form. "You first." All the years of killing had prepared me for moments like this. I felt the adrenalin rushing through my body like it had done so many times before. My hand grabbed his neck and I could feel his body resisting and fighting for air, to him it was life and death, but to me, it was a dull experience because I knew for sure. I would win. I looked confident on the outside but I had to admit that there was still some doubt left. What was the reason God had brought me back and was killing this man what he wanted? Personally, I didn¡¯t want to, I always respected the people who worked in cemeteries, to me they were doing god¡¯s work. The answer rushed through me. Literally and metaphorically. Power - overwhelming and addicting power - rushed through my body. A feeling of pleasure and elation bombarded my dulled senses. The sensations that tingled my skin could not be compared to any mortal pleasures graced on this Earth. My eyes glowed with revelation and reverence. God was rewarding me and I knew I had his blessing. With the permission of a divine deity, my confidence was bolstered to new heights. I knew what to do. Intricate plans were appearing into my mind''s eye as easily as breathing. I almost lost my breath at the sudden action. With efficiency befitting of a demigod and experience mastered through years of patience, I strode towards the man''s body. Godly blood pushed into my limbs as I easily grabbed the corpse and with little effort, dumped the man inside the incinerator. It was an easy solution. Quick, painless and consumed little energy. I inwardly hid a frown as the body burned. It was a shame that I couldn''t hear his dying breaths, however. It was always interesting to hear the melodies of death. I picked the gun up from the floor and found two bullets inside. I wasn¡¯t sure but it looked like a Colt M1911. There was nothing else inside the barn except for some empty alcohol bottles and dead bodies. By now I had a lot of experience with dead bodies and I knew that letting them rot would not be a good idea. A chilling wind blew forward. My eyes widened as my senses blocked most of the stinging pain. I scanned my form once more. I am naked. I clicked my tongue as regret swelled up inside of me. I should have taken the man''s clothes. The thrilling rush of adrenaline faded as the remainder became the focus of my thoughts. My mind cleared as the images of carnage disappeared. I need to control my emotions. With my new abilities, controlling my bloodlust could spell the difference between success and failure. Which means I need to scram. I need to practice and master my newfound powers before an experienced demigod discovers the murder scene. I still have time before anyone would notice any abnormalities. I could prepare and flee to a more secure location before anyone would investigate. Luckily, it was night and nobody could see me running through the fields naked towards the house nearby. It was freezing outside but I didn¡¯t feel anything except for the frozen earth beneath my feet. I winced as the stinging pain jolted throughout my body. The jagged terrain tore through my skin as if it was paper. I sighed as I felt the divine power of my god flood through my body. The warm aura coated my body, dulling my senses with its omnipotent presence. Blood splattered all over the grass ridden grounds. Rocks and plants were painted red by my essence. I ignored it and focused more on my skin. My eyes widened at the continued growth of my power. My wounds were closing. I smirked. I suppose being a demigod may have some perks. I trotted towards the house with a leisure yet hasty pace. My eyes eyed the building with a judging stare. For a house, it was old. Stone bricks layered unevenly throughout its infrastructure. Windows decorated the front two stories in an orderly matter. It lacked the transparency of a modern window but became more clouded with time. It may not be the ideal home for an average citizen but for the desperate, it was enough. I moved forward, opening the door with careful yet confident motions. I widened as the door clicked open with little resistance. The first thing I saw was the picture of the man I had just killed sitting in the fields with his wife on his lap. It was the only thing inside the house that had no dust on it and looked well preserved. I didn¡¯t know if she had left him or died and I didn¡¯t really care. The only thing I mattered to me was finding a fresh pair of clothes and getting out of here, I didn¡¯t know if he had kids or friends that would visit so I didn¡¯t want to stay here for long. First thing I had to do was get rid of the burned flesh that was sticking to my body like old glue. I found the shower and did my best to clean my body to the best of my ability. The first rule to murder was not to leave any evidence behind. I found an old hoody and some jeans that looked like the only clothes that were still clean. The man was clearly a size larger than me but it was good enough for now. The only thing I couldn''t find was a pair of shoes that would fit me as the man¡¯s feet were smaller than mine. Luckily for me, I found a pair of old slippers that fit, I knew that going outside with them would be suspicious but it had to do for now. I kept looking around and found a couple of hundred''s the man had kept for a rainy day and was looking for more bullets when I found a couple of boxes full of ammunition in the kitchen cabinets. I opened the box and there were enough bullets left to get by for the time being. Seeing the bullets made me feel like a kid who had opened his Christmas presents and had found exactly what he wanted. I finally have everything I need to start hunting. Chapter 3: Catching up The alleys of New York city are one of my favorite places to be. I smiled as I observed the people. It was at times like this that showed human nature at its best. Addicts doing everything for the next fix, or people chasing the most addicting substance of all, money. The city had become more chaotic, which had its ups and downs. When the first demigods arrived the people of the world expected them to behave like the superhero¡¯s in the comic books, but even demigods couldn¡¯t resist greed. I especially liked the demigods who joined the underground. Just thinking about how the Argentinian demigods had collapsed the Argentinian economy made my blood boil. Hundreds of thousands of people died and millions tried to immigrate in Colombia and Brazil fearing starvation. Unfortunately it also became an example on how stealing too much too soon was not a smart move, destroying the country¡¯s economy would affect everyone in the long run. Over the years the gangs had found a way to keep the balance, they would steal enough to get rich and in turn the government would turn a blind eye. Off course if people heard my conspiracy theory they would call me a lunatic, but they were calling me a lunatic anyway. I had to do my best to see the buildings in front of me because of the heavy rain but I didn¡¯t mind, I don¡¯t know why but the rain and thunder relaxes me. Finally, I found the internet caf¨¦ I had heard about that didn¡¯t ask for identification as long as you have the money. I entered the building, my eyes scanning the room with an observant gaze. It was small, almost miniscule. It nearly lacked the bare necessities to even call it a caf¨¦. The whole building looked like it had not been cleaned in years, except the coffee maker and a vending machine neatly lined up the walls. Do those even work? I''m not completely sure. The smell of cigarettes wafted throughout the room like a persisting stain. I ignored the smell and located the employee. I frowned at the sight. If the building wasn''t suspicious enough already, the occupants inside only made the image worse. Scruffy hair, an unkempt beard along with clothes befitting that of a burglar barred his way towards the rooms. He eyed me with suspicion. I ignored the stare as I walked towards him. The stares are a common thing if you''re from here, even I would look at anyone that entered this place with at least a shred of caution. "A room." It didn''t take long for me to get to business. I dropped a wad of cash towards the wooden desk between us. I stared straight at the man''s widened eyes. "I don''t have all day." His shaky hands snatched the money. The greed in his eyes were palpable. He flipped through each bill with dexterous yet hasty skill. The man pursed his lips before nodding his head. He took a key from his pockets and tossed it. "The room''s on your left." With nimble hands that surprised even myself, I caught it. I gave a quick nod before moving towards my destination. It didn''t take long for me to enter and it didn''t take long for me to know my next move. Information gathering. If I want to survive, I must learn the events of the world. I do not know how long I''ve been away from the mortal realm. Days, weeks, months, even years could have already past. Traveling without knowledge is suicide, no matter what kind of demigod-like powers you have. If you don''t have a plan then you are practically dead. I closed the door and locked it without preamble. I knew that locking a door, especially in a ''reputable'' place like this, wouldn''t do much but it would give me time. Time that could spell the difference between getting caught with my pants down or at least making one last sacrifice. I scanned my newest home. I frowned at the clutter that littered the floor. If the reception was small then their rooms can be considered . The mattress that filled the volume of this wooden cage covered with half the room. It wasn''t pretty but it was enough. My eyes, blessed with the supernatural powers of the divine, easily spotted the laptop that was hidden within the blankets. Why a laptop is available in a trashy room like this, I''m not completely sure. Why anyone didn''t even think of stealing it could be anyone''s guess. It could be because the security is tighter than one would expect. I didn''t care. It''s here and that''s all that matters. I grabbed the laptop and quickly checked the date. "¡" It''s been three weeks since I died. I frowned at the news. At this point, people would still be talking about my killing spree. While better than waking up years after my death, I was hoping for a couple more weeks at least. While the event is cooling down, the security is still high and on alert. That''s not optimal but I could manage. My eyes scanned the screen as I continued searching for world events. Any news could assist me in the future. I paused at a title. ''The Aftermath of the Community bank Massacre.'' I narrowed my eyes at the words. There is no doubt in my mind that it is referring to my actions. I couldn''t help but hover over the article. This could answer several questions that I''ve been wondering about. What happened after my death? How did I impact the world? I clicked it. I blinked as a video popped into the screen. I played it. Noise buzzed through my ears as I watched the recording. "Constant News here and we''ve just received a report that a massacre has just happened nearby a New York Community bank. We''re receiving information that the killer entered inside the bank approximately at 10:30 PM and proceeded to brutally murder every innocent civilian inside." The reporter frowned at the news as he continued displaying the information. The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement. Another voice entered through the screen. A woman appeared, focused yet focused yet cautious expression painted her face. "This is simply horrible. Who would do such a thing?" "We''re about to find out." The man waved at a familiar figure in the distance. I frowned at the image of the gray clothed demigod. The prominent blindfold was displayed for all to see. Flashes of light barraged the man as he strode through the crowd with envious ease. The flashing cameras were all ignored. The blindfold must have helped. Questions soon broke out at once. The Constant News reporter asked with haste and authority. "Blind Assassin, can we have a moment of your time." "Sure, why not." The demigod waved his hand in approval. Despite the evident sarcasm in his tone, it didn''t take long for the crowd to pounce on the chance. "Do you know the identity of the man who killed these victims?" "We identified the murderer as Chrys Mors." "What was his motive?" It didn''t take long for another question to replace the old. If there''s anything I would commend them on, it would be their efficiency. "As of right now, we believe it to be of suicidal nature. We''re not ruling out the possibilities of a possible terrorist attack or a cult related incident." "What could possibly force a man to do such a thing?" "We do not know." The demigod shrugged. "As of right now, we''re investigating every possibility. We''ll learn everything about our killer. We simply do not know the full story." "Do you have anything to say towards the millions of scared families at home watching this?" The demigod''s lips turned into a straight line. "We are doing all we can to learn more about the situation. We are tightening the security inside our city and all forces are on high alert even though the man in question is already dead. You all have nothing to worry about. Not a single crime will go unpunished and this one is no different." I paused the video as I pondered the new information. They are investigating my past. That could be a problem in the future and with the story trending, it would be difficult for me to maneuver through the city. Fortunately, they hadn¡¯t shown a resent picture of me yet simply because I hadn¡¯t taken one. ¡®I have a limited amount of time. I''m going to have to use it to the best of my ability.¡¯ Without pause, I continued my plan. A god has chosen me. Turned my mortal body into a divine construct of unimaginable power. I''ve been blessed yet cursed with life and was granted a mission that I must accomplish. I cannot deny a god of his demands, especially when its request is something that I specialize in. It¡¯s the only chain that links a demigod to a nigh mortal state. They may have abilities beyond what most scientists can comprehend but they get chained by the orders of their gods. I am no different. I felt great pressure as I typed in the name of Sandra Price. Killing her was my only priority and it was the only thing on my mind. This was the first god had asked me for something and failing was not an option. The only thing that scared me more than disappointing god was internal life. It didn¡¯t take long for me to find her, there were ton of articles about her, they wrote about how great of a person she is and how she is an example to all the other demigods. Saying that she could heal any wound would be an understatement, there were articles about how she could recreate missing limbs and heal anyone who was still breathing. The only problem was that these sources were not reliable and further research needed to be done. With every word I read I felt more hate, she was the embodiment of everything I was against and she even had the audacity to deny god what was rightfully his. It gave me pleasure to think I had the opportunity to sacrifice her. I started gathering as much information as I could, where does she works, what her interests are if she has any family or even a best friend. I soon found out that it was not going to be easy, her ability had made her the target of some big legal and illegal organizations. Demigods, unlike how they are write about in the media have limits and no matter how gifted she is she can only help a handful of people every day before she runs out of power. One of the latest articles talked about how the underground organizations had tried to abduct her as she was working in the hospital that¡¯s named after her, but the New York hero association had saved her and even killed one of them which had caused another problem. Its situations like this that make underground organizations not stay in the underground, it¡¯s a real possibility they are going to strike back which means she is under constant protection. My could feel my body shake with excitement as I stared at the screen in front of me. I have killed a lot of people, but assassination is not one of my specialties. Let¡¯s just say I always went with quantity instead of quality. This felt like a challenge, a kill to be proud of. She is not someone I can just grab and kill, she has connections and is protected by one of the most powerful organizations in the city, the New York hero association. I got up and went for a walk to clear my head. I noticed a gas station not far away and bought some cigarettes. It¡¯s the only guilty pleasure I have and it relaxes me. Besides, living long enough to get lung cancer scares me more than cancer itself. I found a small store and used most of the money I had to cut my hair and buy an old suit, so I could blend in. I had to test the waters, was I going to be recognized, would they call the police even though I was announced dead weeks ago Deep in thought about my next move I walked towards the Sandra Price hospital, I need to see the building for myself so I can make a plan. ¡°excuse me, do you know which bus goes to the Sandra Price hospital?¡± I asked a young girl who was walking towards me with a vigilant eye. She didn¡¯t look like she came from this parts, I didn¡¯t know if she was taking a shortcut home or visiting a friend but frankly I didn¡¯t care, I could take her down if she recognized me. I had passed two people before but I needed someone young to test my theory. ¡°There is a bus station two blocks down, I think its bus number 51, one leaves every 15 minutes,¡± she said hastily while walking past me as she almost hit me with her umbrella. I smiled trying to make sure I looked her in the eyes, I looked for fear and the only look I got was of annoyance. I chuckled, I had this effect on a woman. This is what you get when you have a generation of feminized men who can¡¯t even look a woman in the eyes, situations where something as simple as eye contact is seen as hitting on someone. I reached the bus station and waited for the bus to arrive, I had already exited the bad parts of town and the amount of people surrounding me had tripled. One small experiment was not enough to make sure that I was save, I was hesitant about what to do next, one noisy old woman who wants to talk about her five cats and I had to kill everyone in the bus, fun, but not the plan. The bus turned the corner of the street and almost didn¡¯t stop so I could get on. There were only two people inside including the driver, he didn¡¯t even look at me as he was waiting for me to enter. I put my last dollar on the counter and walked past him towards the end of the bus. I have to admit that my choice of clothing is proving to be the wrong one, years of always being invisible have not prepared me for this. I need something to cover my face but wearing a hat with a suit only makes it worse. As I was taking mental notes about what to do differently next time I saw the hospital appear in the corner of my eye. I got out on the next stop and began scouting the place carefully making sure not to get caught by the cameras. Luckily it was still raining so there were not a lot of people around. It was not hard to believe that it was the second biggest hospital in the city, it was so immensely big I couldn¡¯t see the end of it from where I was standing. The hospital existed out of multiple apartments that had at least fifty floors each. The building had one main entrance for visitors but it had a parking lot and private entrances at every building that staff used. Just as I was thinking of calling it a day I saw a middle-aged security guard exiting one of the buildings. His cloths were filthy and he looked like he hadn¡¯t taken a shower in weeks. He ran to the small mom and pap store on the other side of the street while holding his pants up which was clearly two sizes too big. As he exited the store I saw him drinking something hidden inside a paper bag, alcohol! I decided to follow him which was not that hard, he couldn¡¯t be any slower. He could be of use to me, I had seen a lot of people like this, so desperate for more drinks that he would rather walk home and use his bus fare on alcohol. It didn¡¯t take long for him reach an old building not far from the hospital, I carefully followed him upstairs and watched him fail to put the key in the keyhole multiple times before he finally succeeded. I was thinking about what to do next as he unexpectedly stormed into the hall clearly fighting with a middle-aged woman who properly was his wife. The two shouted curses at each other from one side of the hall to the other without trying to keep their voices down, they had done this before. ¡®I should introduce myself, he looks like he can use a friend.¡¯
