《Rude Awakening》


 Chapter 1

    As I woke up from my bed this morning I checked my phone and realized that I had five missed calls from my dad last night. And I noticed the splitting headache that I have from the hangover.


    ''Shit. He''s gonna be pissed.''


    I checked the time and saw that it was already 1 PM. I probably shouldn''t have drunk an entire bottle of vodka by myself last night. But what else could I do?


    Elise broke up with me.


    It was out of the blue. I thought things were going great. We''ve been in a relationship for eight months already. We were childhood friends and I''ve had a crush on her since sophomore year in high school, when she started to look smoking hot.


    She wouldn''t tell me the reason why she broke up with me. But I had my suspicious that I was either getting cucked or she just really didn''t like me anymore.


    I took off my clothes and went into take a cold shower.


    I shivered as the icy cold water hit my skin and it jolted me awake from my stupor.


    ''I have three more months of school left before I graduate. Three more months of seeing Elise in all of my classes before I never see her again and I move on with my life and work as a lawyer... where I''ll probably see her everyday also, because she''s going to be working in the same firm as I am... shit...''


    I finished the shower and got cleaned up and began to cook some breakfast. I decided to go with something greasy so I cooked a lot of bacon and eggs and decided to give my dad a call.


    [Hello?]


    "Hey dad. Sorry I missed your calls, I just woke up and have a killer hangover right now."


    [Oh, it''s not that big of a deal, one of my guys got caught laundering some ''important goods'' and he''s gonna be in court next week.     My dad''s point of view is that you can never have too many lawyers. And being in his type of business, he needs lots of good lawyers. So he was quite happy that I decided to get a law degree, which I didn''t really mind, because law was quite interesting in my opinion.


    [Why do you have a hangover? You never drink.]


    "Elise broke up with me."


    [What? What happened? Do you want me to talk to her father? Your uncle Frank and I are good friends. We expected you guys to get married!]


    Uncle Frank isn''t actually my uncle. He''s just a really close family friend that help out with the ''business'' and is a trusted aide for my dad who''s been working for him for years now.


    "No! Don''t worry about it... I''ll figure it out."


    [Are you sure? Just call me if you need anything.]


    "Kay dad. Bye. Love you."

    We hung up and I began to eat my breakfast.


    I tried really hard not to think about Elise but I couldn''t help it. My stupid mind kept on going back to her and my heart ached as I recalled how she broke up with me.


    As I finished eating breakfast I got a text from my best friend Jonathan, who I call Jonny.


    [Yo dude, I saw Elise with this good-looking douche bag. Wtf is going on?]


    [Where is she?]


    I replied back.


    My mind was filled with nothing but burning anger.


    ''She broke up with me? For some other guy?''


    [I saw her just now at the cafe and she seemed to be having a good time laughing with the dude.]


    I rushed and just put jeans and a shirt on and ran out my apartment and rushed over to the cafe where Elise and i always hung out and had mini coffee dates.


    It was a short one minute run as I ran as fast as I could.


    And to my disbelieving eyes, I saw Elise laughing happily with a tall, blonde, more muscular, guy than me who had one of those beards that said ''Oh look I forgot to shave today and I still look hot.''


    Now, don''t get me wrong, I''m not that bad looking in the looks department. I''m six foot tall and work out frequently and have some nice abs if I do say so myself but this guy kind of looked like he was either on steroids or a gym nut.


    How could she do this to me?


    She literally broke up with me last night and the next day she''s flirting with some other guy?


    I walked into the cafe and walked toward their table.


    Elise saw me and gave me a startled look.


    "James! What are you doing here?"

    I punched the random dude that was chatting with Elise with all of my strength and he fell off the chair to the ground.


    "James! What are you doing? That''s my cousin!"


    "..."


    Oh.

 Chapter 2

    "James what are you doing? That''s my cousin!"


    Oh.


    Well shit.


    I helped him up while looking at him awkwardly while he was rubbing his cheek.


    We had some small talk before I left awkwardly and in depressed spirits because of how Elise was glaring at me angrily the entire time waiting for me to leave.


    But it turns out her cousin Daniel, was a pretty cool guy and didn''t seem to mind that I punched him out of a misunderstanding.


    This was all Jonny''s fault. That fucker. I''m gonna get him back for this.


    I took out my phone and texted him.


    [Come to the penthouse asap.]

    "I can''t believe you broke with a stud like him Elise!"


    "Ugh. Shut up Daniel. You''re such a slut for cute guys. Come on, he even punched you!" Elise retorted back to Daniel who was smiling at her teasingly.


    "But seriously, though, why break up with him? He''s got a bright future ahead of him and he seems absolutely in love with you!"


    "...It''s not that I lost feelings for him... it''s just that I no longer want to be a part of the family business. And his father is the head, and if I''m going to stay in a relationship with him and eventually get married, then our kids will inevitably be involved also. I don''t want that."


    "Well, do you know if he''s interested in guys?"


    "Ew. Of course not."


    "Haha. Just wondering."

    "Hey dude, so what happened?" Jonny asked immediately as he came into the penthouse.


    "Woah, what the fuck?"

    I forgot to mention that Jonny was a semi-pro boxer that could have gone pro but his dad wanted him to go to college and pursue a ''real'' career.


    He''s also a fuckin weeb. Which makes him a filthy degenerate. Just kidding. It''s just that he watches a lot of anime. Which is why he doesn''t have a girlfriend, although he''s pretty good looking and athletic, his introverted self makes it difficult for him to speak to the opposite gender. And being a weeb doesn''t really help much.


    Because of my failed assault at him, I grudgingly sat back down on the couch, knowing that I lost my best chance to get back at him and just told him the whole story of what happened back at the cafe.


    "Damn dude, I''m sorry... haha."


    "Whatever man. I''m hungry, let''s go get something to eat. Pizza?"


    "Sounds good to me man. As long as you''re paying."


    Jonny mooches off me all the time, that I''m used to it. Not that I mind. My family is pretty well off because of the ''family business'' and Jonny knows what my family does and doesn''t judge me or seem to care.


    Actually, I think that the only reason that he''s my best friend is because he knows that huge secret of mine, which none of my other friends do, which is why I confide in him so many things.


    As we left the penthouse an earthshattering roar resounded throughout the city and windows shattered across buildings.


    I covered my ears in pain and nearly fell to the ground.


    I looked up in the sky and couldn''t believe my eyes.


    A large fucking lizard with wings was flying in the sky.


    "What the..."


    Today would be known as the day of the Awakening by most people. But I like to call it the ''Rude Awakening''. Mainly because of how fucking rude it was for whatever god or celestial being that decided to ruin my normal life and change it into some sort of game.


    People scream and shouted as they saw the large shadow flying above them and some even began to film it and take videos.


    Much to their surprise their phones stopped working for some unknown reason.


    "James, we have to get out of here."


    Jonny pulled my arm and I ran with him back into the penthouse.


    "What the fuck was that?" I said as I locked the door, out of breath.


    "I.. I think that was a dragon."


    "Are you fucking kidding me Jonny? A fucking dragon? How?"


    "I don''t know dude. Looked like a dragon to me though."


    I tried getting on my phone to search up the internet for any news to no avail. The screen wouldn''t even turn on. My computer and TV were all useless pieces of junk right now.


    "Okay... now what do we do? We can''t just sit here waiting for something to happen." Jonny said.


    "Hey, what the fuck are those little green men?" I said looking out the window and seeing these short, savage looking green people chasing normal humans around with miscellaneous weapons.


    "Woah. What the hell is going on? Is it the end of the world?"


    "Elise!" I shouted as I remembered that she was still at the cafe and I ran towards the door.


    Jonny stopped me and pulled me back.


    "Woah man! Calm down. Do you plan on going out there without a weapon?"


    Good thinking man. If I rushed out there alone, I would have probably died.


    Unfortunately we didn''t have any weapons in the penthouse. So we could only get some kitchen knives and I got a broom and duct taped a knife at the end of it, while Jonny just got two knives and decided to dual wield them.


    ''I hope your safe Elise.''


    I thought to myself as we exited the penthouse and faced what was to come.
