《Reaper Of Souls - Messorem Animarum》 Prologue - Fall and the Beginning Unknown Location in the Plane of Gods-: As far the eyes can see there was a wasteland. This was one of those location where usually even the bravest of the heroes wouldn''t go near to but at this very moment in this wastelands were thousands of people fighting against each other. But even among these people some were who stood out and towered over the rest. These people had already been fighting for the past 7 days and nothing has changed apart from the ever increasing deaths and the surrounding scenery. In fact this wasteland was one of the most beautifull places you can find anywhere in the 8 planes. The cause of it''s present situation is the war that has been going on here for last week. This stallmate has been continuing for quite some time but a change happened right this instant. Out of nowhere a man appeared in the middle of the battlefield. All the people looked towards the newcomer and then it seemed as if time has stopped. The cause of this was because the one who appeared was one of the most powerful being in the entirety on the 8 planes and if he was to join one of the side then that will signal the end of the other side. "What does the Ruler of the Blackthrone want, to interfere with our war?". One of the Leading individual stepped forward to question the man. While he talked with a calm tone he was anything but calm on the inside. If he interferes here and acts against us then all will be for naught. "Worry not, Ruler of Order. I am here to give my first and the last warning to all of you who are present here. Cease the war this very instant or suffer". Man replied in a calm tone but his words triggered a storm. "Who do you think you are to say such words!". Another man stepped outside. "It will be in your favour if you take your words back, Soul Wielder." This time a woman stepped out."Do not forget that there are other rulers besides you." Other such voices started emerging all saying similar things. At this the moment the man who stepped out first was in deep thought. That man was never one who liked boasting but the claim he had just made was too ridiculous to even think about. There are more than 9 Rulers here. There is no way he can stop us even if its him. The man just looked at all this with a calm but determined look."Since none of you are willing to listen the don''t blame me for what happens next." "Activate [Throne] -Offer Trade -Ask for Annihilation -Radius 2000km -Tribute Soul -Complete Destruction"The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. When the surrounding people heard his words they were stunned. What just happened was something that they weren''t expecting at all. "Stop him at all costs. Interfere and work together or none of us would be able to live past this day." The Ruler of Order was the first one to get his mind around what just happened and immidiately issued commands. When people heard his commands they finally understood the reality of the situation. Enimies who were fighting for 7 days with the intent to kill each other worked together as if they were partners meant for each other. When the mans word ended a black throne started manifesting infront of him. Attacks started comimg from all direction towards him but he braved them. When the Throne completely manisfested a voice as if from the deepest depth of Hell came out of it. "Trade Accepted" When the people heard it despair covered their faces. Some tried to run away but they were late. Because the next instant a flash covered the horizon and then all that was left in the 2000km radius from where the man once stood was just destruction. There was absolutely nothing. This was the end of Third War of Gods which nearly destroyed everything in existence. This was the end of the man who stopped the war, The Ruler of Blackthrone, Soul wielder Ramos. On the other side of the realm was a woman who watched all this with calm eyes but she was unable to keep her facade and sadness showed on her face. Also at this very moment a whole realm had a vision of a man falling off his Throne to some and some had the same vision about a woman and a mechanical voice entered the ears of some select few individuals. "Throne Wars Has Been Initiated........" One of the few people was a little boy named Jaden. But the very next instant They all forgot all about the vision or the voice. This was later named by the historians as the Fall. Chapter 1 - Beginnings and Inherent Skills Mortal Plane of Arton-: In the House of Messorem, today was a festive day. This was because today was the day 17 children of the House ware going to get their inherent gifts identified. These not only included the average ones which would make a decent addition to the House but also a few talented ones. These talented ones were to be the true pillars for future of the House. Even among them were 2 who shined brighter than the rest of the children. One of the was the second daughter of the current House Master who was born with nearly 7 times more mana than normal children and also the young master of the House who was born with over 20 times the mana. In the plane of Arton all kinds of magic exists like the magic of stars or [Astral Magic], which was practiced by House Messorem, or magic of Spirits, [Spirit Magic] which was practiced by House Animus. There are more kinds like the tough to control [Soul Magic] or the feared [Spectral Magic]. With all these different kinds of magic the competition to determine the best also existed due to which wars were fought. 100 years back the strongest of the groups came forward and decided that more wars will only be harmful to all and figured out a peaceful solution of letting selective individuals participate in competition for different age groups and then decide the ruling House on the combined result of said competition. This worked well for the coming years but the signs of war were have not completely vanished and at any moment world could be in chaos again. Living in a world such as this makes power the best and ony way to survive. Any kind of magic require a sacrifice to work. Some require absurd sacrifices like soul of others while other require you to sacrifice your blood and the like. This places magic as an art of trding something to accomplish something. To bypass this trade where you have to hurt yourself to hurt your enemy some magic evolved to work by sacrificing a different energy, Mana. Everyone is born with mana, albiet some with more while some with less. Usually being born with more mana means that you are more likely to have more mana than your peers at any given point in your life. Sometimes people born with less mana could end up accumilating more mana with training while people born with more can end up with less than average because of some factor. Its rare but it does happen. So when mana was started being used as the power source, those with more mana were going to have an advantge over those with less. Being born with 5 times more mana was already considered a genius level individual, so when House Messorem got 2 individuals with genius level mana capacity with one of them being in a league of his own in the very same year they were bound to celebrate. And today was the day when those 2 children were going to identify their inherent skills. Inherent skills were something of an enigma in the current society of Arton. Everybody was born with atleast one inherent skill and the most mysterious thing about them was that nobody knew why somebody had that particular inherent skill. People could be born with literally any kind of inherent skill whether it be Body Strenghtning, Proficency Enhancement, or Information Gathering. So usually these skills decide what kind of future a person would have. Today 17 of the younger generation were going to have their skills identified. The group was compromised of the 17 children in the middle, one middle aged man in the front and 2 old men in the back. "Today is the day when you guys are going to learn what [Inherent Skills] you guys possess so I want you guys to understand a few things beforehand. Most Inherent Skills are classified as Offense, Defence, or Support Skills. While ther are some skills that stand in the gray areas but you are not very likely to encounter them as they are rare. Also, you are at all times to be in the eyesight of either me or the 2 elders. While the world may be at peace but the practices carried out in the dark are still there." Said the middle aged man to the children. "We understand uncle Mark. I am sure none of us will defy your instructions." Said one of the boys who was in the lead. All the other children were looking at him with a look of reverence. "I am sure you would understand young master Jaden. But still all of the children including you and young lady Emily were made my responsibility when I was tasked with protection you during the identification ceremony" Mark replied to the young boy reffered to as young master Jaden when he showed his approval to the instruction. When Mark replied to Jaden he had an appreciating look in his eyes. Even the elders were looking at him with favor. Jaden was the first born son of the House Master and was treated really well . He was born with over 20 times the mana of a normal child and the gap has only grown bigger due to the amount of the hardwork he put into training. Now he had nearly 25 times the mana as a regular 8 year old. This was too high considering that increasing even a tiny bit of mana requires alot of effort. This only goes to prove how much talent he has. He was the one most likely to become the next House Master. If you come across this story on Amazon, it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it. House Messorem was one of the specials Houses out there. Here the next House Master is the one who is able to pass all the predasigned tests of the House and gain approval of more than half of the elders of the House. This meant that absolutely anyone born to the House has the right to become the next House Master. Those born to the higher ups will have the advantage but its not a very hard one to overcome. "OK here we are." After travelling for another hour they arrived infront of a temple. This was the temple of the Goddess who is the worshipped in the Plane of Arton. This is because she was the one who gifted the Status. In simple terms it allows the person to learn the various aspects of his own body with the numerical representation. But this is only possible with the origin stone and only the Ruling House has the control of stone. There are some counterfeit that can only show the Inherent Skills. Here was one of those. When the children arrived they were looking at the temple with awe. The temple was tall that one could see it from miles away. There was a human sized gem at the top of the temple that creating a barrier around it. The whole temple was white with various decorations and the roof was held with 12 pillars each having a gem of different colour on them. "Wow!" Exclaimed one of the girls who stopped walking after entering the temple."Big Brother, This temple looks so huge!" Said the girl facing Jaden. Jaden looks back at her and smiles "Come on Emily, I know that the temple is huge but if you keep dallying there then you are going to be left behind." "Coming." Replied Emily. She was the Second Daughter of the current House Master but was born to a different mother than Jaden. She had showed great talent since she was 4 years old. The House is also troubled with what to do to her. She could have easily been used as a negotiating tool as an alliance with other Houses. But she always refused to potential candidates and nobody wants to force her as she is doted on by both the current House Master and Jaden, one most likely to become the next House Master. There''s her talent to consider too as if Jaden was not there then she was nearly gaurenteed to become the next House Master. Right now she has nearly 9 times the mana of a regular 8 year old. The group walked for another 5 minutes then arrived infront of a large stone. It was called as the Identification Stone. When somebody touches the stone and injects their mana then it projects their Inherent Skills. "We have arrived children. Now I am going to call you guys one by one. You will stand infront of the stone and inject your mana in it so that we can learn about your skills and set you on correct paths." Mark stood infront of the children. After talking with the Gaurdian there and exchanging some pleseantries with him, he faced the children and gave them the instructions. The children followed his instructions and injected mana in the stone. Most of them had common Inherent Skills like [Body Strenghtning x2], [Fire Manipulation(Minor)], [Peek(Minor)], etc. Then it came Emily''s turn. When she touched the stone it glowed and projected 2 Skills. This meant that she had 2 Inherent Skills. One of them was [Blessing of Stars(Superior)]. It was one of the most sought after skill in the House Messorem as it boosted the efficency of [Astral Magic]. One of the bad points of [Astral Magic] was that it was weaker in the daytime but this blessing mostly covered that weak point. The second Skill was [Light Magic]. Sometimes Magics are inherited from the parents. Emily''s mother was skillful in [Light Magic]. This set of skills were better than just getting 2 skills. While getting 2 skills was rare but these skills suited each other and boosted efficency of the other. [Light Magic] has a wide variety of skills ranging from offense spells to healing spells but they are weaker than other similar spells from other systems which focus in that particular aspect of spells. But [Astral Magic] has very few individual skills as most of the skills are buffing skills i.e. they focus on supporting other spells. Few individual spells of [Astral Magic] are too high tiered so they are inefficient in battles. But if Emily is to focus on [Light Magic] as a means to attack then she can use [Astral Magic} to boost their power. While the other children were still awestruck at Emily''s skills, Mark called Jaden up. Immidiately the children started thinking what skills could Jaden have as he is considered as the talent of the century in the House. When Jaden Injected mana in the stone then 2 sklills came up but nobody was able to understand the situation. This was because the skills that came up had never before been seen or recorded. "Um.... Uncle Mark, could you be so kind to explain me the effects of the skills" Jaden was the first one to take the situation in and turned back to see a stunned uncle Mark, confused children, and flabbergasted elders. It should be noted that the 2 elders had completely learned all the books in the House library and there shouldn''t be a skill out there that they don''t know about. "Uhmm....ah...yes, the elders should be able to explain them." There was hesitation in Mark''s voice and it was due to good reason because if they were new skills then it was going to be a big thing. It has been more than 500 years since a new skill has appeared and now 2 new ones emerged in the same guy was going to cause some sensations. "We should return to the House because it is not good to waste time here." The elders soon regained their composure and suggested to return as even they were unsure what these skills did. Mark and the children complied and prepared for the return journey. And so, they left the temple with confusion, hesitation, doubt, and fear of uncertainity in their hearts. and the skills which were projected on the stone which caused all this confusion here were [Analyze] and [Decomposition Magic]. Never have they been seen before and will most likely never will be seen again. Chapter 2 - Worries of the Mind On the way back, Markus asked Jaden to try to use his abilities. Normally children are advised not to use their abilities until they are home and in front of someone who knows at least something about the skills but Jaden''s case was different. He had 2 unknown skills about which they had next to no idea about. [Analyze] sounded like an information gathering skill but what sort of information? As for [Decomposition Magic], Mark had literally no idea about. The result of Jaden trying out his skills was that he felt like something was different after using [Analyze], like he is able to see the essence but his vision was the same. All that [Decomposition Magic] did was create a small flash above his hand. This didn''t really help but at least it confirmed that it was a system of magic. Skills that grant the ability to use any form of magic were usually sought after as it allows a person to use that system of magic without truly understanding it. For an example, Emily having [Light Magic] as a skill means that she does not have to learn about {Light Magic System} and can still use the basic spells of the system like [Flash]. But this does not mean that she doesn''t have to learn about [Light Magic] if she wants to use better spells. This will prove difficult for Jaden because if he wants to develop his magic then he has no one to depend on or learn from apart from himself due to his new system of magic. After using his [Decomposition Magic] Jaden started to feel tired, as if all his mana has been used up. Mark takes note of it and decides that now it''s time to set the camp as it is going to be a 2-day trip. "Alright listen up, it''s going to be dark soon and its better if we set camp here rather than inside the forest. Elders I hope you can look after the children as they wait here and set camp and go and find something for them to eat." Raising his voice, Mark announces to the children that they are setting up the camp here and requests the elders to look after the children. After the camp has been set up, the children start talking to their friends about their day and their view on it. Emily comes up to Jaden and sits next to him to talk to him. "Big brother, what happened? You look kind of tired" Asks Emily with worry evident on her face.? "Nothing. I was just trying out my skills just earlier and they have left me a bit tired" Jaden replied smiling bitterly to his sister when he remembered about the problem of his skills. Emily immediately understands the problem and tries to correct her mistake. "Don''t worry big brother. Even if you have unknown skills, so what. You can still make them better and rise above any other of our generation as you should. After all your talent has not been seen in centuries." Emily was right. This was the problem weighing on Jaden''s shoulders. The development of his skills. It''s not like he did not know what having unknown skills meant. It meant that while others are travelling a well-maintained road, he will have to create his own. While others already know where to go, all he can see is an unmaintained forest from which he has to establish his own destination. Worst thing though was that he did not have even an inkling of what [Decomposition Magic] is supposed to be. While Jaden was trying to make sense of his situation, Mark was having his own worry over how this will affect the situation in the House. Young Master Jaden having 2 skills is definitely a good thing but both of them being unknown skills changes the situation a bit. If it was Young Lady Emily then it might not have had this much of an effect but now that both of the skills that Young Master Jaden has are unknown then the Control Faction will not let this chance go and definitely try to do something to damage Young Master. He has been the largest thorn on their side for some time now. Also, from what I saw today was unsettling to say the least. Young Master had to use all of his mana to activate the ability and all it did was create a small flash of blue light that lasted for just an instance and then disappeared as if it did not ever exist. This means that the mana requirement for the technique is enormous to say the least and it will at least take Young Master 3 years before he can even try to use it and a decade to effectively use it in battles. That is if it truly has any use in battles and it is not just a broken skill. The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. While having such worries, Mark returned to the finished camp with some food and after eating their fills, everybody slept. Next morning Mark woke up to some noises. While they were quiet but he could hear them. He looked around to locate the source of the sounds, and saw that they were coming from Jaden who was training a bit away from the camp so as to not disturb the others. "Looks like you were doing some training, Young Master." Mark called out to Jaden who was surprised to hear his voice. "Good morning uncle Mark. I did not think that it would disturb your sleep. I apologize for it." After getting his composure back greeted Mark and apologized. "Good morning Young Master. You don''t have to apologize for it. If I did not wake up then it would have shamed me to call myself a former scout of Aurum, One of the top mercenary group out there. And you did not disturb me, it was about time for me to wake up as well." Replied Mark. "Then I will take care next time something similar happens." "But Young Master, you do know that we will be back to the House by the evening so training now does not seem to be a good idea." "It''s just that with all that''s happened yesterday and all that it means for the future, I just wanted to take my mind off it all for some time and training does just the trick for me." "While I can''t say that I understand what you are feeling right now but what I can say that running from it is not the best option that you have but worrying about it too much is not good either. You should just try to accept the situation and walk forward with it. You should look at it this way as you will be making a new road for others to tread on and will leave behind a legacy for others to look up to." "Yes, you are right, I should have a positive outlook on my situation and work hard to leave behind a legacy like no other." Said Jaden. I hope that you don''t do just that but much much more...... While Mark was thinking about it, others have started to wake up. He saw Emily walking towards them. "Good morning big brother, good morning uncle Mark. What were both of you doing here?" Asked Emily. "Nothing, I was talking to your brother about my mercenary days. Don''t worry, I shall take my leave to prepare for the journey. You both have fun and Young Master Jaden, you should think more about my words" Declared Mark and started walking towards the direction of the camp. "Yes, I will Uncle Mark." Said Mark. By the evening, the group was back at the House. It should be noted that the other children were always keeping their distance from Jaden and Emily, it was more prominent in the case of Jaden. It was because the 2 children were different from them. They both were born higher than them even though the difference was minimum also because no matter what skills they got, they were much more talented than them. When the group returned, they were told to rest today and somebody will come to them tomorrow to confirm their skills and tutor them in the right direction. Jaden was told to meet up with his father tomorrow and then proceed towards the meeting halls. Mark along with the elders went to give their report to the council. That night Jaden had the dream that he was all too familiar with and have had many times in the past. One of the few things to have a lasting impact on him and his future. Chapter 3 - The Meeting Jaden found himself in an empty space. There was nothing here, only darkness. Also, he was not in his own body but the body of some man and he had no control over his own actions. He looked around and notices a staircase behind him. He sees that there was a black colored throne at the end of the stairway and started walking towards it. For some reason, even though there were not many stairs but he was just not able to reach the throne. The worst thing was that with each step he took, he experienced a multitude of emotions ranging from joy, sadness, regret, anger, relief, and many others that even he had no idea of what they meant. When he looked back to see his journey all he could see was an endless void filled with souls. He instinctively knew that they were the souls of people who had died so that he could stand where he was today. Some willingly and some forced. He tried to run away from them but was unable to and all it accomplished was that there were just more unfamiliar emotions inside of him and more souls behind him. He kept trying to run for what seemed like hours but still nothing changed. After running for a few more hours he came to accept these feelings and the burden of the souls that were sacrificed for him to stand at the summit. He stopped running from them and accepted them. Just as he did so he noticed that he was standing in front of the throne. He instinctively knew that the throne was calling for him. He stepped forward and sat on the throne and as he did so, fragments of memories, scenes unfamiliar to him were shown to him. Then a man showed in front and said "Do not repeat mistakes that I did. Cherish your loved ones because the burden of the Throne is not something that a single man can carry." Suddenly Jaden was in control of the body and asked "What is all this and who are you." The man and smiled, trying to reply but before he could, a mechanical female voice came out of nowhere. "It''s not time yet." And the dream ended there and Jaden woke up in his bed. "That dream again...." It''s just like that. It was not the first time that Jaden had this dream and he had been having this same dream multiple times since the last 4 years. He did not even cry when his mother died when he was 6 and people praised him as mature or worried that he was holding himself back and encouraged him to cry if he wanted to. But how could they have known that it''s not like he was mature or holding himself back, it was just because since he was 4 years old he had been experiencing emotions much worse than what he felt when his mother died. Sure, he felt sad, but did he feel sad enough to cry? The answer was no. He was praised as a child who was mature beyond his age but how could he not be mature when he had been having dreams that do not allow him to wake up until he accepts all those unknown feelings as his own and matures. He had been fearing what would become of him if these dreams kept on coming, will he still be Jaden after a few more years or be someone else entirely. "No use trying to figure out the impossible. What would become of me is a worry of the future but right now I have to figure out my current situation." Jaden stood up from his bed and started getting ready to meet up with his father. His father was the current House Master and was also the strongest Mage of his generation in the House. He was approved by 80% of the Elders of the House. His name was Anthony. He also has the most weight in the Council. The was comprised of the most influential people of the House but recently the things were not looking too good for the House. Originally the House was more akin to a democracy. Here any and all people who could prove useful for the House were allowed to take part in the Council and decide the future direction of the House. But recently a new faction has emerged, the Control Faction. They want all the power to decide the future of the House to be in the hands of people born in the upper echelon of the House and those born lower should not have a say in the decisions. They take up 30% of the seats in the Council. Then there is the Equality Faction, comprised of people that think that the current status quo is correct and such changes are not necessary. It is headed by Anthony and takes up 40% of the seats in the Council and the rest are neutral and are taking the attitude of wait and see.Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit. This goes to show just how much of a mess the current House Messorem is and now that Jaden had gotten 2 skills with both being unknown, the Control faction will not let this chance to damage his reputation go. After all it is to be noted that Jaden is considered not only the future of the house but also the future leader of Equality Faction. After getting his thoughts steady and ready to face the difficulties head on he left his room and made way towards his father''s study room. He knocked to show his intention of entering and the entered the room. He faces his father everyday but he still can''t help but be afraid. It''s not like his father is dangerous looking or something like that. In fact, his father is really kind looking and gentlemanly. It''s just that due to Jaden''s high sensitivity to mana he could feel his father''s rough and nearly out of control mana and could instinctively feel his body rejecting to follow his orders and going in. It all started when his once let out some of his mana to check Jaden''s mana sensitivity when he was 3 and Jaden started crying and looking fearful of his father suddenly. Since then Anthony has always been letting out his mana near Jaden so that he could familiarize himself to exceedingly imposing mana. And now it has become one of Anthony''s favorite pass times. After forcing himself to enter, Jaden saw his father, a tall but handsome middle-aged man but hair darker than obsidian looking to be in his mid-thirties. After the man saw Jaden come in he smiled. "I have come, Father." Jaden greeted first as respectively as he can. "Don''t be so stiff, Jaden. You are my son and not some outsider." "Yes, Father." Jaden said as he smiled at his father. "I can see that you are still afraid of my mana. That''s not good for you Jaden, you should get used to it quickly. It will benefit you in the future" "You also know that it''s not that easy. You said it yourself that it took you 20 years until you were able to get used to grandfather''s mana and yours is said to be even more tyrannical. I am trying my best here." Replied Jaden trying to complain to his father. His grandfather was an Elder of the House and was known to be the strongest of his time but was not the House Master due to his absolute lack of ambition for power. Getting used to the father''s mana is something like a tradition in his family and until the son get used to the mana, he cannot be taught any skills of the House including [Astral Magic]. "Alright! Alright! Hahaha.... now fun time is over. We are getting late for the meeting. You should not worry about the meeting. Even though you are unable to use your skills but that doesn''t mean that you will never be able to use them. Let''s go and get this meeting started." Anthony was unable to hold back his laughter when he saw his son complaining and acting like an actual 8-year-old when he usually acts a lot mature and probably his immediate is the only one who are able to see him acting like this. While this meeting is important but they most likely won''t do something like asking me to remove him from the clan. Thought Anthony. After travelling for 2 minutes, the Father-Son duo arrived at the Meeting Hall. "Alright quiet down everyone. The meeting is going to start." Declared Anthony as he raised his voice and took his seat at the head of the table. Jaden just stood behind his father as he was still unqualified for a seat in the Council. "First Elder, why don''t you state the issue and reason for this meeting to be held?" Asked Anthony. "Yes, House Master." Replied one of old people sitting at the right of his father. "The issue for the meeting is the skills that Young Master Jaden had and the reason is to discuss about future actions." After all the people at the table acknowledged it with a nod Anthony continued. "Since we all are on the same page then let''s progress with the meeting. Jaden, why don''t you show us what your skills look like?" "Yes, Father." Jaden then proceeded to use his skill [Analyze]. He felt like surroundings have changed and the mana coming out from his father was even more tyrannical than usual. "Do you feel any different, Jaden?" Asked Anthony when he felt like something was peering his secrets one by one albeit the force was too weak to find anything. In fact, the same thing was felt by all the people present here. "Yes, Father. It seems like everything has changed but obviously, everything is the same. Also, the surroundings feel much more overbearing than usual, like I can understand more than what I am used to." "That''s enough. Now try to use your second skill." "Yes." Jaden then tried to use his [Decomposition Magic] but the result was the same as last time. Just a small flash of blue light for an instant and being left with a completely empty mana pool. "Alright, that''s enough as well. It seems like you are tired, why don''t you go back and rest for now. We will let you know the results later." Anthony suggested when he noticed his son being tired due to mana exhaustion. "Yes, Father." After replying Jaden left and went back to his house, hoping the result of the meeting would be in his favor.
