《Light is suppose to be weak》 Chapter 1 Chapter 1 My name is Shiro, my family are to poor to have a last namewhich isn¡¯t uncommon dad said they only about 38% of people have a last name and those that do have noble heritage. I live in a small village called lesser malling located in the shawl province south of the capital city of Florence from the country of Nightingale. Our village isn¡¯t very advanced dad says, we have wooden houses with thatched roofs which leak in the night and a well that the whole village shares. Apart from that we are blessed, we have never had any food shortages mainly because of the soil being so good from all the low level monsters that are killed. Our village gets most of its money from beginner adventure who want to gain experience by killing low levelled monster like boars and slimes. My house is located to the east of town near the farms this is because my parents wanted to watch over their crops. Mum once told me they came from far away place called Japan, they said there was magic that let you speak to people across the world and magic which let you stop time and record it into a weird box, I think they were trying to make fun of me. They found their way in the country of Nightingale and decided to take it easy for the rest of their lives, they are another one of the reasons why we never have a food shortages. I am currently outside with Tod, Kevin and Sally who also live in the village. Tod is 4 years old and the tallest with his sharp spiky hair, Kevin is a short version of Tom whom he admires and is also 4 years old, Sally has two golden pony tails and a flower dress she is a only 3 years old but two months older then me. I don¡¯t mean to brag but I¡¯m pretty handsome with my luscious auburn hair and my light blue eyes which grant me unnecessary attention. The four of us are currently outside bouncing a ball which Tom¡¯s parents bought last week for good behaviour, which I honestly don¡¯t know how they believed that it was literally last week when he stole a pie from Mrs Truchbull. I have never played with a ball before this is also the same for everyone else so we are enjoying throwing, bouncing, rolling and just about anything else we can think of. It was getting late we had already been playing for four hours so I was looking forward to mums famous roast pork, it is said to be able to send a demon to heaven. I walked back to my own wooden house with a thatched roof and took my shoes of and hurried to the table wanting for my mums delicious food to be served. ¡°How was your day, did you enjoy yourself¡± she asked I then started recounting today¡¯s events trying to keep calm. It was at the end of my story that dad walked in and slumped back lazily on the chair saying that he¡¯s to tied to move, this is never true because when the food is placed he¡¯s the first to finish. Right on cue when the food is placed the man who was once too tied to move gulped down the food one mouthful at a time, finishing well before the rest of us.Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences. After dinner my dad got out the dictionary again and started testing me, he¡¯s being doing this for a year now and is the reason to blame for me speaking so strangely for a three year old. I think I¡¯m pretty smart because most of the other kids don¡¯t even know a quarter of the words I do. Dad also taught me maths as well but I only now simple addition at the moment. After lessons I went to bed, I was so tired after playing ball for so long. I woke up the next morning with the sun shining in through the window, I clumsily try and put my cloths on (backwards) and stumbled down the hallway to the kitchen where mum put my shirt back on and served oats for breakfast. I have something planned today, I wanted to go and explore the forest where the monsters hide, I made sure to do it on a day when Tom, Kevin and Sally are all busy helping their parents. Of course If I tell my parents about this they¡¯d lock me up in the cupboard. The forest had lots of light shining through so I could see all the plants I had never seen before like this blue flower with thorns going down the stem. That¡¯s when I heard the most blood curtailing scream which seemed to be a mix of a crying baby and a bird squawking. It didn¡¯t even take me a second to react, I ran away from that scream whatever made that sound was not human. I got about 5 meters before i stopped and looked back at where I heard the scream. The reason I came out here were to see some monsters I can¡¯t turn back now when I just heard one. I started heading towards the monster trying to be as quiet as possible, the closer I got the more screaming their was. That¡¯s when I saw it a green bodied idiot waving his club around obviously not knowing how to use it, this might sound rude but he has to be retarded with all the drool coming out of his derp looking face. If you hadn¡¯t figured it out it¡¯s a goblin and not just one there¡¯s about 20 of them. The goblins at the moment are fighting this swordsman who only has light gear and a second hand sword but he obviously know what he is doing because he¡¯s holding all 20 of them off. That¡¯s when I noticed a second man dressed in strange clothes for some reason this guy is wearing a dress, mum always said not to judge others I wonder if this what she meant. The dress guy shouted to the sword guy that he is ready, ready for what I wondered Dress guy shouted ¡°hells flame¡± And that¡¯s when blue flames shot out of his hand in a wave. When it reached the goblins they all started screaming and I thought I was going to pass out, I am not joking when I say that is the most horrifying and disgusting thing I have ever heard. When the flame disappeared all that was left were 20 piles of ashes. That was the first time I had seen magic I didn¡¯t think it was so powerful I can almost respect him if not for the whole dress wearing thing. The two of the walked of after collecting the materials no doubt going to hand in their request to the adventure guild. I sat there thinking about what I had just seen, I always heard mum and dad talk about magic but I thought they were just making it up, now I know they were telling the truth. I have decided in the future I am going to be a powerful magician and if anyone gets in my way I will just burn them. I think I just had a really dark thought When I got home mum noticed I had a cut on my knee it must have been when I was watching dress guy. She interrogated me for half an hour until I came clean. She then locked me in the cupboard. Chapter 2 Chapter 2 It¡¯s been over a year since I saw my first display of magic and ever since I have read every book I could to learn about magic. For my fourth birthday I begged my parents to buy me this book called introduction to magic and I have now basically memorised it. The book itself looks old with a few holes in the binding but apart from that it looks basically new, most likely because most kids just want to learn from school and don¡¯t want to put in the extra effort. Magic is made up of 6 basic elements fire, earth, wind, water, light and darkness. Magic is ranked in levels one to nine and each level has a low, middle and high. For example if you are able to cast one level 2 spell you are a low rank 2, if you can cast 2 rank 2 spells you are a middle rank 2 and if you can cast three or more you are a high rank 2. Magic ranks are determined from three things, firstly how powerful it is, secondly the area of effect and finally the amount of mana used. Mana is basically the fuel for magic, we channel it from the environment to cast magic it is basically a form of energy that exists in nature. Tomorrow I turn five and am able to be tested for my magic. From what dad told me there is this crystal ball that glows a certain colour depending on what element you are it is also possible to have no elements meaning you are incapable of casting magic, that better not happen to me with all this work I have put in. Today I am going to spend my last day as a four year old with my friends. They have all been tested already and it seems Tod has fire magic, Kevin has wind magic and Sally has earth magic. Tod¡¯s already learnt how to create a small flame on his hand it¡¯s really weak thought and gets blown out with a gentle breeze. They said there going to the local magic school in the shawl province in greater malling which is only about 50Km from the village. It is possible to get a scholarship to a high standing school if you have the talents but nearly no country kids get in. The next day dad hired a carriage to take us to grater malling, it was a bumpy ride I was worried the whole way that the carriage was going to snap in half with all the creaking and cracking it was making. The carriage was lead by these two brown horses with white spots that seemed to be related, the one on the left was bigger maybe an older brother, I always wanted a sibling. Greater malling was the same as lesser malling except bigger with the occasional stone house and fire place. The market place was bustling like it was an everyday thing, I wanted to stop and buy some more books but we were already late said mum and that we had to get going. When I stopped looking at the markets and instead looked in-front I saw a massive temple which seemed out of place in such a small village. It was made out of marble with huge white pillars that were at least 10 meters tall with weird looking drawings on them.If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement. It was late because of the travel so there aren¡¯t many people here, there seems to be a line of about 10 people in-front of this stool. The stool is run by an older man with a goatee. A kid who just finished talking with him made his way into the temple. ¡°Next¡± he shouts On command the next kid in the line walks up to the man. We make our way to the back of the line and are forced to wait. While waiting many kids with their families walked out, with some being happy and others crying I really hope I¡¯m not one of the crying ones It is finally our turn, we walk up to the desk and the goatee man gives me a side long glance with a disappointed look, I¡¯m already not liking the guy. ¡°Name please¡± he asks sounding like a robot who was programmed for one thing. I answered with my name and he gave the paper he was holding a heavy stamp. ¡°Go on through, the priest will be waiting¡± he instructed. I walked in to the temple and it was even bigger on the inside then it looked from the outside. Waiting for me was an old man with nearly no hair wearing a white dress. I wonder if I go to the capital will their be more dress people. The priest led me through various corridors until we got to a room with a crystal ball placed on a pedestal. This was obviously the crystal ball I had read about. I suddenly got nervous, thinking about if I didn¡¯t have magic. The priest must have noticed because he placed his hand on back and gave me a reassuring smile. ¡°Young man, please touch the crystal ball¡± said the priest I walked up the stairs towards the pedestals, feeling more nervous with each step. The crystal ball was near clear and every now and then you could see flashes of light. I hope I could get fire magic like dress guy, I want to be able to turn my enemies to ashes, but I also heard it¡¯s hard to control I hope I don¡¯t burn down a forest or two. I also wouldn¡¯t mind earth magic, it¡¯s suppose to have really good defence and can give amazing body enhancements. Earth is also suppose to be rigid not leaving much room for creativity which isn¡¯t good. Darkness also sounds cool, it focuses more on stealth and assassination, but can cast some incredibly powerful spells. This element is also said to corrupt the mind on excessive use. ¡°Young man touch the crystal ball¡± the priest said trying you to hurry me along. It seems I¡¯ve been standing here for a few minutes daydreaming. I hold out my hand and in one swoop touch the crystal ball, not letting myself be turned off by fear. I felt something drain out of me and enter the crystal ball, this must have been mana. It went through all the colours until stoping on white White, the element of light suppose to be the weakest because it can only cast healing spells, some people who are good at light magic become saints but there are no light mages that are high ranked adventures. I look back at the priest and he looks disappointed for some reason, you know it¡¯s bad when even priests look down on light magic. Even though I got a ¡°useless¡±element it¡¯s still better then having no element and I also refuse to believe that the light element is so weak. I walked out of the temple to meet my parents smiling faces, mum rushed over and hugged me and asked ¡°so what kind of magician are you going to be¡± I looked her right in the eye and said ¡°I¡¯m going to be the greatest light mage there ever was¡±. On the bright side at least the bar for best light mage is low. Chapter 3 Chapter 3 It seems being a light mage has its benefits, because there are so few I get a scholarship to Sanctus magic school, the second best ranked school in the country. The school is located in Nightingale the capital which is far away from the village, at least the scholarship pays for boarding but I will have to leave my parents. The new school semester is starting in three days time so I will be leaving tomorrow which leaves tonight to say goodbye. I spent the rest of the day saying goodbye to Tod, Kevin and Sally all of which were cheering me on to do something great. When I got home mum prepared her amazing roast pork to send me off. The next morning we parted with tears, not wanting to let go of the other but knowing it¡¯s for the best. I don¡¯t think I will ever forget looking back at those crying faces from the carriage and trying to wipe my own. It was a bumpy ride which took nearly 7 hours but you could see the capital in 6. Nightingale stood tall and had huge walls stretching to the heavens which seem to have done a good job defending the city. Inside the walls it looked like their were 10 people for every 5 meters, the bustling of the cities far out shines what I saw in greater malling. In the centre of the capital there is a castle that looks like it was crafted for the gods itself made out of both marble and gold. The school is located on the east side of the city and is about the same size of my village if not bigger. The main school building is made out of a rock I don¡¯t recognise while the dormitories are made of brick. They have a stool at the front gate with a sign saying ¡°WELCOME NEW STUDENTS¡± A man about 15 years old is managing the stool with a bored look. I walk up to him and introduce myself as a new student. He gives me an uninterested nod and gives me a map where to go. While walking away from the man, I can¡¯t help but wonder if everyone in the city is like that. If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it.I eventually found my way at the dorms which seem to be built upwards instead of long wards. My room is 7P, so I make my way to the elevator and try to find my way to room P. The room is very flash with two bedrooms and working plumbing, this is most likely due to me being a scholarship student. I was unpacking my bag when I heard the door open, I was suppose to get a roommate hopefully this is them otherwise it¡¯s an intruder. Clive Kingsley was my roommate, he was about my height with blond hair and you could tell by the way he walked he thought very highly of himself. After introducing ourselves he knocked past me and walked into my room, chucked all my stuff on the floor and then closed the door. I might have been onto something before when I said (thought) that all city people were arrogant, well at least I haven¡¯t seen any guys in dresses, yet. It was approaching 6;00 and the brochure the guy at the desk gave me said that dinner was served then. I made my way there and somehow made it to the opposite side of the school while I was looking. It seems we¡¯re having curry tonight so I grabbed a bowl and made my way to the canteen to have a middle aged man with huge gut serve me my food. I scanned over the room trying to find an empty spot, it seems someone noticed me and is signalling me to sit down next to them. I sat down next to him who could have easily been recognised as a girl with his short red hair, he introduced himself as Sully. Sully actually lives not far from my village and in the next province over called Rosemary, he wants to be a magical engineer when he grows up. We chatted away for ages until a crashing sound could be heard echoing around the room We all turn around only to see my roommate Clive on the ground with another guy standing over him. Clive stands up and picks all of his food of the floor and puts it back on the tray and walk off. The bully wouldn¡¯t let that happen and grabbed onto Clive¡¯s shoulder and said ¡°you gonna run away like you father¡±. Clive swung around like a blur and launched the bully a meter away with his fist and walked off. I tried following him feeling a little responsible because he¡¯s my room mate. When I caught up to him and asked if he¡¯s okay He turned around and even though he didn¡¯t speak a single word I could tell he was telling me to stay away. So I walked back to the cafeteria and sat down next to Sully. Sully asked ¡°what¡¯s wrong¡± and I answered ¡°don¡¯t know¡± I walked back to my room and saw Clive¡¯s door already shut, so I walked into my room and slept. The best thing that has happened in the 24 hours I have left home is definite sleeping in this soft bed, I have never slept this good before Sorry Sully
