prologue
i live in the country Eran near the border in the small fort town Chihuahua it seems about 500 years ago a summoned hero told the king of the most dangerous most fearsome creature that even the hero had nightmares of so it seemed an appropiate name.
Around every hundred years a hero is summoned to save from the demon lord.the last hero was a necromancer if it weren''t for the blessing from gaia they would have probably killed him. before that anyone with even the hint of one of the forbidden affinities would have been killed. Such as darkness, Necrotic, summoning.
Well Placing a fort inside a cresent shaped mountain range seemed like a no brainer but the current lack of arable land has been delaying those plans.
My parents were adventurers they were known as the "Shield" and "The Bow".
They weren''t that powerfull or well renown untill a battle years ago a neighboring kingdom thought trying to take our village was a good idea. Well it was until he personally angered my mother.
Well my mother was personally responsable for killing and maining 10 generals. well your thinking how do you kill 10 generals the answer is simple you give a very skilled archer an experimental highly accurete ballista with explosive mana stone tipped bolts.
Before the general could even finish giving out the orders boom standard balista bolt in the chest the next in line becomes general the next guy managed to finished giving the attack orders before being impaled. The third almost made it back to his base but thats when mother started using the enhanced bolts.The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
dad held a 5 hour seige not one soldier made it though the main gate alive when the battle ended he was the only one to survive. fathers armor appeared more like scrap iron then anything else. He was covered in blood yet not one cut on him.
Maybe it was then that we should have suspected.
About 2 years after that my parents died while protecting a caravan loaded with supplies for our village.
i''m six at this time the village elder has to transfer my parents belongings to a guardian as i am too young as i am lucky if it weren''t for my parents standing in the village i would have been thrown pennyless into the orphange to fend for myself untill the age of majority 12.
unfortunately Cowardice and stupidity ruins the best of plans. It seems an adventurer owning a grimoire is not a too uncommon thing. If you find out you have an affinity for magic you''d want to use it especially if it can one day it can save your life. Mother''s wind and farsight grimoires weren''t a problem. It seemed my father had a decent affainity for necrotic magic one of the formerly forbidden magic. The most known of which is a spell called life drain.
well the housewives that were treating me kindly one moment. you could see how the fear twisted the their once happy faces.
My guardian was always suppose to be the blacksmith Dedius. Sadly the gossip of housewives travels faster then an arrow in flight Dedius had no problem with accepting me but we would had to leave the village the elders had already left a secret order to all the soldiers and andventurers to not escort us from the village. So we did the only thing we could do dedius stored the property of my parents he could the grimoires mostly and that was already a big enough risk for him. We sold enerything else while we could. To protect Dedius''s business I went to the orphanage after completing my chores there i would go to the smithy to learn of the forge and of metal.
My name is Myka Airs the blacksmiths student.

First dagger
I''m 10 years old now i''ve been training under Dedius in secret for 4 years now i can now "forge a fine blade" his words not mine. It made me strong i''m still a little short for my age but twice as strong as any my age.
Fortunately i inherited my parents mana talent in particular my fathers Necrotic magic talent. "If they''re going to hate you anyway might as well use it" as dedius likes to say. I discovered my talent shortly after moving to the orphanage. a few a of the boys started a fight they broke broke my ribs i would have broken their faces. till that bastard headmaster in charge of the orphange blindsided me a swift kick to the ribs to "protect the wellbeing of the orphans". Seems like he put them up to it. Luckily they left before i discovered my life drain ability it healed my puntured lung but the bird resting in the tree suffered the Poor bird died "waste not want not". I learned my most important lesson that day never ask Dedius to cook anything the pain from having to eat that disgusting burnt thing made the beating seem like a fond memory.
I don''t know what Dedius did but the head master steered clear of me after that. After the life drain i could see life energy in people and things i know who has what affinity. After awaking my mana Ded made me train using my fathers grimoire almost as hard as black-smithery. Only trouble we had was the big words in the grimoires as Ded liked saying "i''m a blacksmith" not a scholar. Luckily a few traveling adventurers traded lessons for repairs to their weapons.
It wasn''t till recently i made a breakthrough in magic and blacksmithing when you see the lifeforce of something it looks like a roots of a tree radiating from a central point. When you poured mana into a blade it it wouldn''t spread evenly though the blade there would be more mana in the blade near the handle then the tip and it would take a few seconds just a second can mean death a few seconds is too much.Enjoying the story? Before the only way to combat this way to use extremely rare and expensive metal like mithril. Screw that normal people can''t afford that. My way would be faster easier to use and almost just as powerfull inserting mana veins into the weapon it''s self. The potential seems interesting.
Well i''ll try a few different designs.
First to prepare i''ll need my chainmail, my helm i''ve learned one thing already alway wear protection why you ask? Well if you accidently scare Ded his old warrior instincts awaken and then you have a former adventurer who''s only gotten stronger since being a blacksmith ready to fight you and refusing to take no for an answer. At least it''s good practice fighting people.
i learned from the first experiment that if you create a mana vein in a blade with no release for the mana it''ll explode. I got plans for this new morsel of knowledge after the initial shock of Ded screaming "by Odin''s beard" and the subsequent beating training from Ded.

So the two daggers i designed work two different ways.
the one activates quicker and retains mana longer and doesn''t need nearly as much mana to activate it.
the second one is kinda scary it looks like the first dagger and activates even quicker when you put mana in it is expelled though the edge extending it by 4 inches effectively turning a dagger into a short sword in an instant.
Second dagger
Every 2 years theres a tournamentnormally isn''t a priority for me they''d never let me win at least noteasily. normally there was always at least a minor wind type grimoire as it is one of the more commen and versatile affinities in the 2 tournaments since my fathers mana afinity became known.but in 6 months the tournamet will havea special prize a neutral metal mana manipulation grimoire meaning if you can use mana you can use it. but this year they will use soul crystal grimoires once activated you learn all of the knowedge in the Crystal so even if you don''t have the affinty you are instantly regarded as as a official scholar of the of that magic.
Why you ask is this tournament special it''s because of the revival of the Demon lord. In a year and a half the heros will be summoned to defeat him and they need allies powerful allies that can move without attracting the attention of the demon army and spies. I think because it''s easier to send a kid on a suicidemission especially if he thinks he can save the world.
Ded had a good point about not selling the blades publicly otherwise they would be used against me. But i need the money for materials i got a few ideas for armor, and a proper blade, andshield, and a few tricks i learned from the adventurers, And most importantly mana stones.You might be reading a pirated copy. Father once told said we are not the decendents of heroes, or generals but soldiers and craftsmen. We never stepped on the backs of our allies to raise ourselves but earned everything we had with our hands and owned no one any debt. Thats why i liked Ded''s idea to sell the blades to the captain of the guard. Leon the kindest person to me in the village besides Ded. His kindness was that he did his job fairly and properly. Plus the added benefit that i won''t have to fight someone using my blades that would be embarrassing to lose that fight.
I''ll make 10 of the continuous use swords i''ll call them "Cloak" swords it sounds better. And 10 of the mana blade lengthening daggers i''ll call these "Mana edge" for short. I''ll have to go when they get paid the Captain leon he can take part of there pay if he deems it nessary for the safety of the fort. It should be enough to pay for all the blades, and they''ll get the rest of their pay just 3 days late. I need to get paid all at once otherwise the town leaders would probaly "donate" my weapons to the town. Plus i can probaly count on captain Leon to stay silent about me. Tommorrow i''m trying out my last test blade.
Mana saw

I made my way to the gate easy enough. the guards never forget to sneer at me i feel so special. The Stupid weaklings think that they''re strong. Nothing wrong with being weak just hate those that prey on those weaker then them.
I start jogging once i''m passed the gate till i''m about a quarter mile away.
"time to see what you can do ya big bastard sword"
The mana vein in this one is circlular so mana just circles around the blade
The mana starts moving though the blade first the edge was created but then the mana edge started making a noise like metal scrapping against it''s self the edge started looking irregular more like a serrated blade.

I place the sword against a nearby tree small tiny bits wood go flying from where the mana blade made contact with tree.
"haha ha haha it works" easily pushes blade all the way though the tree."maybe too well no i can do better plus it uses up a scary amount of mana"
A twig snaps from behind me. I jump to the left with my sword in hand just in time to nearly piss myself.
"that''s a big bear. WHAT THE HELL your suppose to be asleep for a"
The bear suddenly stands it''s just under 10 feet.
i throw the dagger as practiced at it''s face and throw the sword At it''s chest.
I start running away i can''t kill a mana bear like this. i need to get out of it''s line of sight a climb up a few tree branches and wait. the forest cloak gets rid of your scent when you run mana though it. Listening for the bear. I can still hear the squealing sound from sword but not the bear. after a few seconds I can''t hear the sword anymore. 3 minutes later still hiding still can''t hear the bear.
"Oh i hope your napping" peeking out from the side of the tree the bear is just laying there with the point of the bastard sword sticking out it''s back.
"yes just as i planned yes. Now time to get the mana stone and my sword and run away as fast i can." Pushing on the side of the bear "now i believe you have my property it''s time to return it."
"Too heavy to move. if i had any mana left i could chop you up" trys pushing even harder.
"Grrrrrrrr"
looking over the corpse of the bear to see a large wolf.
"your not suppose to be this far west" grabs hilt of his spare dagger "if you''re there then your a"
suddenly turns around with dagger out and his left forearm guarding his neck "decoy"
Mana saw 2
"ARRGH" as the wolf chomps on my left forearm and knocks me down. I''m trying to stab it in the neck with my spare dagger but it keeps moving too much. decoy bastard is trying grab my right arm. Another wolf shows up trying to bit down on my right leg. Boot kicking him in the snout should warn him.
"Damn" the wolf has already bitten though my leatherarmguard.the scent of the blood sent the wolves into a frenzy. The loss of blood making me feel weak but sent me into a rage.
Remembering what that town did to me.
"No i''m not going to give those bastards the satisfaction. AHHHHHHHHHH."
my vision turns dark but I can still see, i''ve never seen life force so clearly before. Everything turns slow i see my mana drain the life out of the wolf chomping on my arm i just accelerated it a bit and the wolf just died. A surge of power just hit me. I turn to the decoy wolf that tried to take my right arm. I drop the dagger in my right hand grabbed the wolf by the throat i snapped it''s neck and throw it at one i kicked.This book''s true home is on another platform. I jumped up and grabbed my sword. I saw that there were at least 5 wolves still alive, besides the 2 i killed, and 1 i injured. 2 wolves jumped towards me i slashed them in half. The sword feels so light. I dashed toward the one i already injured, And kicked it in the head, killing it.
"ROOOAAAARRRRRR" i roared as whats left of the wolves ran away.
"With this power i can easily defeat a manabear."i turn the dead manabear over. I grabbed my daggers and pulled the mana saw out and stowed it.
"Damn the mana stone is fractured" while prying out the manastone.
"i could look for another bear."
a distant roar is heard.
"huh maybe next time" started sprinting full speed back to the village.
when i got in earshot of the village i pulled the hood tightly over my head and started screaming
"monster monster it killed a manabear and a pack of wolves" the guards were so distract by my words, and my bloody cloak. They didn''t even take a good look at my face. I pointed in the i came from. They grabbed therir weapons and called for other guards. While i dissappeared in the chaos and took my cloak of when out of sight, and made my way to ded''s smithy.
"boy what happened to you stink of blood?"
"i''m powerf" just fell like a puppet with it''s strings cut.

looking at Ded i can see his mana traveling around him in so much more clearly then before that battle with the wolves. I see what looks like 3 small orbs of concentrated mana floating around his belly region.

The only thing to decide now is what kind of mana vein to give it. I''m leaning toward mana saw."

i pull out a 12 inch buckler.
"feast your eyes" as i filled my buckler with mana. Mana edge increased the size of it by 8 inches From all sides turning itinto a 28 inch shield.

i pick up a chunk of fools gold.
"remember that first dagger i made that exploded? Well i can make one now that will have an even larger explosion at the slightest hint of mana. I make a gaudy blade as a trap in case anyone manages to steal from me or my gear."

"Remember that adventer that gave me lessons Laz. It seemed he had a similar history as aillegitimate child so he taught me a lot more then intended lesson. "What if we enchant a chakram to always return it should be good for him to put a mana vein in." Brokkr
"what about a steed, or a carriage,or small flying ship. Maybe a power ring type weapon."Eitri
"no i mean no weapon no anything we can''t do anything like that. That world is off limits to interference of that scale after what they did. But we can watch and cheer him on maybe a little help should he need it." Odin
At Dedius''s smithy
" i got a few more ideas for weapons but neither of us use a bow or spear in battle. But if testing goes ok i may get a whip."
" So we should be ready in a few days to leave this forsaken town." Ded
" No not yet i want to enter in the tournament that metal crystal grimoire is just too tempting."

"this is where you''ll meet him it''s about a two miles away in a small clearing. there is nothing of value in that area so adventurers should not be a problem. Be there tomorrow at dawn. Remember to bring your food and your gear. Don''t let the guards at the gate notice you leaving too regularly lest they getsuspicious." Dedius

I feel a blade on my neck

"that i actually did forget" pulls a a crystal on a string out of his pocket. " this is an aura crystal it''s used by mages to hide their magic aura so others can''t tell what affinity they have, and have it used against them.this one will make it seem like you have a wind affinity."

use too long can cripple or kill me

Stronger version of mana drain only high lv mages can use it without touching the subject
life force gets drained so quickly the subject literaly turns to dust or just about
needs more practice before it can be used safely in battle
