《Nico, The Lord of Nothingness.》


 Prologue, Where it all began.

    So this basically gives a good bit of insight into whatevents went down to lead to the setting of this story.


    In the years of 2020-2030, Humanity had a breakthrough in technology and began to makeextremely advanced pieces of equipment. Spaceshipsthat were able to fly faster than the speed of light came into theory and people started to prepare for the ability to cultivate other planets. Self-aware AI was created and the foundations of building robots to do our small tasks wasput also put into theory. Small versions of both of these were made and were successful, showing how far science had come.


    With this breakthrough in science on thetechnological side, other fields started to advance with leaps and bounds as well. Medicine was made that can cure cancer, Solar Energy was advanced so far that one Solar Panel could give a whole city of millions electricity. Scientist were even able to make clones of certain animals.


    The whole world was at peace and all of the countries started to work together for a brighter future, the reason this happened was due to what was needed to make these advancements of Science. A new metal discovered called Naturium. It was Bright Green and pulsated when touched. The rarity of it made countries bring all their Naturium together and work towards the same goals. This caused a lot of peace treaties to be signed and soon everyone was at peace. No one knows exactly how this new metal was formed or why it suddenly came into existencebut very few people asked questions.


    One of the people who was asking questions was a scientist who managed to get a small chunk of Naturium and began to study it. He concluded that this metal was, in fact, a sign that Earth was in fact living and Naturium seemed to be Earth''s organs. The reason he concluded this was wherever it was found and removed, the land around that area began to decay and rot. The governments covered this up but decided this would need to be studied further. The scientist''s name was Kakashi Akihiko.


    On the year 2031, a major vein of Naturium was found in the country of India and was to be quickly mined and be delivered to the Capital of India, New Dehli. This vein was 50 times bigger than what anyone has ever found and was priced at around 50 billion American dollars. As the miners reached the middle of the vein, an open area that resembled a room was found and a small red orb was floating in the middle of this spacious area.


    Confused but filled with greed the head of the mining crew decided to take the orb for himself. He gets to the middle of the room and stretches out his hand to grab the orb. As hands finger touches the orb, a massive dark hole is formed and begins to suck the crew into it one by one. The last person in the crew was almost sucked in when everything suddenly became still again. After about 30 seconds of stillness, a massive portal is opened where the Red Orb should be. Out came what seemed to be monsters of varying degrees and numbered the same as the crew that got sucked in.


    When noticed by the 10 monsters, the human was mercilessly killed and the once mining crew but now monsters began their ascent to the surface. After making it to the surface, the monsters began a murderous rampage on the humans, using an unknown power to completely thwart any use of military weaponry which this power would be later called magic. 2 of the 10 monsters were captured and studied. The head scientist for this study was Kakashi Akihiko.


    This is what the humans figured out.


    Dreamor- Half Bull, and Half Man. Similar to the Minotaur in Greek Legends, this monster is impervious to all forms of attacks ranged from explosions to constant fire from bullets. Dreamor also has the power to change the shape of the earth. Captured by being trapped inside of an electric cage. Seems to be weak to any forms of electricity. To be kept in the electric cage at all times.


    Lilin- A humanoid creature that has the wings of a bat and a black tailplus horns to match. Similar to the Succubus, this woman looking creature is very alluring with having large breasts and attempts to lure any man she seems to his doom. Has the ability to control fire and make it appear out of thin air. Fire is so hot that it is able to melt any bullets coming at her. Weakness seems to be water and was trapped by making her unconscious by hitting her with an armored vehicle after dousing her in water. To be kept in a concrete box suspended in a chamber of water at all times.


    After intense studying of these creatures, the fact that they resembled mythological legend was too uncanny and Kakashi believed there was a reason for this. These monsters could''ve of roamed the Earth at one point but he didn''t know how they didn''t destroy humanity before.     (Italics is Lilin speaking and regular text is Kakashi Akihiko. They are currently talking through microphones and a speaker. A camera is also recording this interview.)


    "Hello monster, Codename Lilin, this is the third time I''ve tried to speak with you. Do you understand me at all."


    "......"


    "Still silence huh, we have heard you speak before when you lure in men and then rip the heads off their bodies, tell me, why are you here."


    "Mother sent us."


    "Mother?"


    "You call her Mother Nature but to us, she is simply Mother."


    "Is the camera working Izuki? Make sure it is recording. Anyways, why would ''Mother'' send you?"


    "You are killing her. First she gives you humans a home after the God''s have forsaken you, and this is how you treat her!"


    "What do you mean by God-, What is it now Izuki! Wait, what do you mean the water temperature is rising?!"


    "I will carry out mother''s mission! She will not be destroyed by some petty humans!"


    After this conversation, Lilin managed to escape her confinement and kill everyone within the facility but as she went to kill Kakashi Akihiko, something revolutionary happened.


    "How..... How can you create fire out of nothing! I don''t understand!"


    "It is simple, we ''monsters'' have learned how to use our potential to the fullest whereas you humans could never figure it out."


    Fire began to engulf the body of Kakashi Akihiko but an orb of white light seemed to be surrounding and protecting him. The fire began to fade away without Lilin''s command but she quickly realized what was going on.


    "Tch, why are you here of all people?"


    A figure made of the white light came through a wall and appeared before Lilin and Kakashi Akihiko. He picked up the unconscious Kakashi Akihiko and seemed to be looking at Lilin. A distorted voice came from the Light.


    "M??y ???c??re?at??i?o??n?s?? ??w??i??l?l ??n??o?t ?b??e?? ??d?e?s??t?r??o??y?e??d ???s??o? e??a??s?ily.??? ??I?? r???e??s??t???r???a???i???n??e??d?? ??t??h??ei???r? ??p??o?w?er?s?? ???f?o???r?? a ?r??e??as?o??n? ?b??u???t??? ??it?? s??e???em??s?? ??y??o???u??r? ??Mo???t?h?e?r ha???s ?fo?rc?e??d?? m??y? ?h?a?nd."


    A blinding light emits from within Kakashi Akihiko as the original humanoid figure of light disappears into him. With his new found powers, Kakashi Akihiko was able to kill Lilin and also kill Dreamor, who was locked up still. One of his newfound abilities was that he can awake the potential inside of someone, which he did on a global scale. Anyone with the potential, or now known as Affinity, to use the same power as Kakashi Akihiko was bathed inintense light and was awoken to their powers. These powers would be called Magic.


    Not everyonehad Affinity for Magic though. Only about 1/3 of the world''s populationhad Affinity for Magic and only 1/100,000 of these peoplecould actually use Magic. Kakashi studied magic and the different types. With his studies, he was able to make the Magic system that is used in the present day. The categories in this system were Fire, Ground, Water, Wind, Dark, Light, Physical, Mental, and Soul. More will be learned about each category as the actual story progresses.


    With Humans having Magic, they were able to defeat the final 8 monsters and restore peace to the world. 10 major contributors to the defeat of these monsters were called The 10 Lords. These people hadthe best Magic Affinity and were able to lead their respective militias to victory against the monsters. Akihiko, who was the leader of The 10 Lords and was the best user of light magic, decided that this was not the end of the assault Mother Nature had in store for them. He decided that if the next generation of children were able to use Magic, then he should make schools to be able to train them for another attack. The Nature''s Bane would also be created which was essentially an army made for defeating Mother Nature.


    Thousands of colleges were made throughout all of the continents, yes even Antarctica for Ice magic users, and were prepared for the training of the next generation but something bad happened. It was discovered that if 2 people with the Affinity for Magic had a child, the child would die at an early age for reasons unknown. This caused panic throughout humanity because the question was raised, "What if the next generation can''t use magic?". The only solution was for someone with the Affinity for Magic would have a child with someone who didn''t. Another thing that was discovered was that even if your parents didn''t have an Affinity for Magic, you still could.


    As the worry for the next generation faded away, Akihiko disappeared completely. Though the loss of the original magic user was heartbreaking, humanity continued to persevere forward and gave him a global holiday and a school of Magic in his name. This school would become the school known for making the best magic users and would ultimately be the Number 1 school for magic in general.


    With the passing of 20 years after the disappearance of Kakashi Akihiko, only 5 attacks from Mother Nature had been made but were stopped by the original 10 Lords. Humanity became more and more prepared each time and even discovered new uses from Magic, like creating things. There was one problem in the world though. Crime. Not everyone who could use Magic was a nice person and crime skyrocketed, which is why the 10 Lords created The Defenders of All. This was essentially the Magic police. Each school offered training for this new group of people so the world could be a better place. They also started offering classes on Creation which made the group called The Creators. These people would basically just create things with their magic.


    Now the year is 2158, 127 years after the first encounter with Mother Nature and Humanity is still living strong.

 Already? Chapter 1

    "Class F huh?"


    A woman in her mid-40s let out a long sigh of relief after hearing what class her nephew got into.


    "No one ever graduates from Class F."


    Nico nodded slightly to acknowledge this while looking like he is contemplating something. Aunt Mel, as he calls her, pulls a brown paper bag out of the fridge and hands it to Nico.


    "You know that even if you went against my will that I will still support you, right?"


    Nico shakes his head up and down to show that he gladly accepts this support and gets up from the bar stool he had been sitting on. As he goes to leave the house his eyebrows begin to furrow as he feels as if something was forgotten.


    "Oh."


    He turns around and can sense Aunt Mel staring at him angerly. He goes back into the kitchen and gives her a hug goodbye and finally leaves the house behind. Nico gets about 20 feet down the road and puts in some earbuds and starts a long playlist of songs on his phone. He begins to go down a mental checklist in his head to make sure he didn''t forget anything.


    ''Notebook, check. Writing utensils, check. Lunch, check. Gym clothes, check-.''


    As he went through the many things on his list, something begins to make extreme haste towards Nico from behind. Nico senses this and easily steps to the side, dodging the high-speed moving object right before it runs over him.


    Nico is able to sense that this was, in fact, a human but someone who seemed to be in a big hurry. Nico just shakes his head side to side in a disappointed way and continues to walk down the street. The warmth of the sun seeps into Nico''s body as he begins to feel rejuvenated by it even though his black school uniform is soaking in a little too much heat.


    Nico begins to play with the gold buttons on his school uniform and manages to get his outer shirt jacket undone, leaving his white dress shirt out for the whole world to see. He loosens up his tie a bit and he begins to feel the breeze of the wind better and less restraint on his neck.


    After 5 minutes of walking, Nico finally makes it to Kakashi College of Heroes and mentally prepares for his first day. Class F-1 is in the far back of the Right Wing of the school and the walk seems to take forever. The smell of perfume and deodorant permeates throughout the hallways and people are sizing each other up even on the first day of school. The Nature''s Bane is the most competitive of all the courses so it is not uncommon for people to scout the competition this early. It all comes down to the Exams at the end, and knowing information about your opponents is the key to winning.


    If you pass the Exams then you will enter your second year of The Nature''s Bane course unless if you have the potential to go straight into combat. After your second year and your second Exams, you will finally either be hired into Nature''s Bane or rejected and thrown back into the monster that is society.


    Finally reaching his classroom, Nico opens the door to a fairly quiet classroom almost filled to the brim with people. Everyone in the room looks at Nico as he opens the door and they all give him judgemental stares. He simply shrugs it off and manages to find a seat in the front-middle of the room. He sits down and puts his backpack under his chair while waiting for the teacher to arrive.     "Hello! My name is Ika! Nice to meet you!"


    The girl puts her hand out as she introduces herself to Nico. He continues to point his head in her direction for a few seconds and gives her a nod and turns back around. She lets out a surprised and worried "Wait what" as Nico turns around. She is slightly aggravated as her eyebrows seem to be twitching but he continues to ignore her. She runs around Nico''s desk and makes it so her face is near inches from his.


    "That''s rude you know!" Ika says with a loud voice.


    "Yeah, well it''s also rude to use your magic to find out my abilities like that." Nico says.


    "W-W-W-What do you mean?!" Ika says while repeatedly stuttering.


    "I can detect magic and figure out what most spells are fairly easily. Yours is so simple that it took me a mere second to deduce you are using a soul magic where if contact is accepted, you receive information about the person. That includes magic abilities, strengths, weaknesses, and even favourite foods."


    The girl named Ika stands there in shock as she had her powers figured out within the first hour of school. Not only did one person figure it out but now everyone in the classroom knows about it! Everyone she had shaken hands with are giving her dirty looks as her secret is revealed. Everyone else in the room sits there in amazement as Nico was able to deduce someone''s magic without even opening his eyes.


    Nico continues to sit there with his eyes closed and it seems that if he had his eyes open then he would be staring blankly into nothingness as he hardly moves a muscle from his position. By this point Ika, who had been defeated, sat back in her seat gloomily.


    "Name''s Nico by the way. Just so you know."


    Ika perked up a bit as at least she got the mysterious boy''s name. Everyone was truly surprised when a tall and slender boy walked into the room with his eyes closed and easily navigated throughout the room. Some people thought he had insane hearing and used echolocation and some assumed he was just so tired that he was already asleep but now they are slightly worried. They didn''t know what to think about him now.


    A woman in her late twenties walks into the room and puts down a pile of papers on the teacher''s desk. She pushes her glasses up the bridge of her nose as she is sizing up the newest Class F with a sharp eye. Her eyes drift around the room and she gives herself a confident nod. She believes that this will be the Class that has someone who will be a part of The Nature''s Bane. If not she loses her job so she has no other choice than to be confident.


    "Good morning students, my name is Julia Steffe but you will call me Ms. Steffe, and I will be your teacher until you pass or fail this class!"


    As she writes her name on the board, her eyes target a specific student in the front row. He seems to be asleep already as he has not moved a muscle and it highly irritates Julia as she has high hopes for everyone in this class. Deciding that he needs to wake up, she takes the chalk she had just written her name with and throws it at him with blistering speed. The chalk should hit the student hard enough to make the chalk explode and almost give him a concussion but when it almost reaches his face his hand catches it out of nowhere.


    Julia is completely speechless as after Nico caught the chalk he smashed it with his fist. The powder of the chalk falls out his hand and onto the floor. His eyes were still closed but to Julia, it seemed like he was staring right at her. With her pride hurt and being embarrassed in front of the whole class, Julia decides to use her powers to punish the young man.


    "To the principal''s office with you!"


    Nico lets out a long sigh and shakes his head. Not even knowing where the principal''s office is, Nico still leaves the room and begins to wander down the hallway he had just walked up minutes before.


    ''Already? God damnit.''

 The Left Eye. Chapter 2

    As Nico makes his way back down the hallway he went through not too long ago, he tries to find the principal''s office. He can''t understand the problem that teacher has with him but it is truly unfavorable if she is to be his teacher for the rest of the year.


    Soon he finds himself back at the entrance to the school and he looks out the front door. Outside he can sense what looks like a class. They are on the massive dirt square placed near the entrance to the school. Nico decides to bide his time and observe what they are doing.


    They are all standing in a circle and Nico can sense that two people are in the middle of it, staring at each other. Figuring that they would come find him when they wanted him, Nico walks out the entrance to get an even closer view at what is going on since power seems to be building up in the middle of the circle.


    The temperature outside is getting hotter and hotter as what smells like a fire reaches Nico''s nose and he realizes what is going on. A duel is happening at the moment and both people involved seem to be effective in fire magic. Nico can sense the flames flicker above the heads of the rest of the students as the fight continues on.


    ''Oohhhhs'' and ''Awwess'' can be heard as the people surrounding the fight stare at the fire magic in amazement. Waves of heat blasts hit Nico''s face as he is leaning against the wall of the school. Someone yells in the distance as both fires begin to burn more intensely.


    "You can''t beat me! I am the strongest student to ever attend this school so good luck!'' one of the people using magic shout at the other. The one who is being shouted at seems to be scared at the rising of the black flames around him. His Blue Flame Circle is being taken over by the extreme power from his opponents black flames.


    As the fight is about to enter the combat stage, an old teacher bursts out the door beside Nico. Nico moves his head over so he is facing the teacher and the teacher is very worried.This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.


    "Hey! No fighting you hooligans! Someone will get hurt!" The old teacher yells in frustration and worry. Nico looks back over to the fight at hand and sees fire begin to engulf the two students, each having their own color. Nico decides that this is going to escalate too far if he doesn''t interfere.


    "Hey, sir. Would you like me to stop those two?" Nico says in a slightly irritated tone. The old man turns to see Nico, who the old man didn''t sense which confuses the teacher.


    "Well, your aura says you have no power at all and you''re not even near them but you can try. Watch for the one with black flames young one." The old man says in a loud laugh, underestimating Nico.


    "If you don''t have confidence then watch the fight." Nico says. The teacher listens and turns around to look at the fight with Nico at his back. The fight is really heating up as the two boys covered in flames of different colors exchange blows.


    The one with blue flames is losing horribly as he is being completely out powered. A quick fiery punch from the one with black flames sends his opponent flying backwards and into the crowd. Everyone in the crowd quickly jumps away from the flaming boy so they won''t get burnt.


    The one with black flames increases his fire output, causing an uproar in his power and sending the tip of his flames 20 feet into the air.


    "This is it! Get ready to die on the first day of school you cockroach!" yells the one in black flames as loud as possible while drawing his fist back. He dashes forward as the one in blue flames gets up, fist drawn back and ready to pierce through the unexpecting student''s body.


    Right before the one in black flames reaches his opponent, his fire completely dies out and vanishes. The one without flames now stops himself and jumps backwards with a face full of anger. The one in blue flames turns to his opponent but his flames die out too. In fact, if you would have tried to use any magic, it wouldn''t have worked. It would have dissipated into nothingness.


    Seeing that the fight is concluded and that everyone could guess the winner, Nico closes his left eye that he had opened to save his fellow student. The one who won clicked his tongue in anger as he assumes a teacher had destroyed their magic and stopped the fight. He pushed through the crowd and went to where his class was supposed to go originally.


    The old teacher''s eyes are fully open in amazement and his mouth is agape. He turns around to ask what Nico had done but Nico was gone, he went back inside to look for the principal''s office. Nico made his way to the Left Wing and finally found the place he was sent to go to before.
