《World Genesis》 World Genesis: Volume 1 Chapter 1 ¡°Cold¡ damn.¡± I shivered involuntarily, the winters here are rough¡ why didn¡¯t I move to Florida or something while I had the chance? Where did I go wrong? That question often comes to mind¡ I was always faster or smarter than the other kids growing up. People would say I was bound for great things, and I guess it got to my head. ¡°That Michael boy is bound for great things!¡± If only they could see me now¡ I devoted myself to getting good grades in school and graduated top of my class in everything¡ well I was bad in math, but really I had everything else going for me! I had a steady girlfriend for a long time, but she had to move to London for work, and I had school and even a possible job lined up¡ I should have gone with her. I went to a decent college, and believe it or not, I decided to become an artist. I was pretty skilled too, I mean I¡¯m good at a lot of things but I¡¯m passionate about drawing and painting. I was ready to set out and become the next Leonardo Da Vinci! Unfortunately my career ended up being more like Vincent Van Gogh¡ I was drawing concept art for cartoons for a while but when the company that hired me went under I was on the street within days. How could you be put on the street in this day and age!? You¡¯re probably asking that right now, well I can only chalk it up to bad decisions. Gambling, drinking, and a lot of self-loathing can usually lead to a bad end. I made some really dark paintings during that time¡ they didn¡¯t sell well. So with no money and a history of being an idiot¡ here I am, laying under a bridge with a small fire in the middle of winter. I have a blanket¡ and the fire, though small, helps¡ it still is way too freaking cold! I got kicked out of the shelter for reasons I don¡¯t want to get into right now¡ ¡°If only¡ I¡ had some rum¡¡± I say this through chattering teeth, well drinking my be my vice, but damn is it ever useful on nights like this. Uhg, my eyes are getting heavy, I feel¡ I feel numb actually; this is fine¡ at least it¡¯s not so cold anymore. I¡ really hate¡ cold. And with that my sight went dark, and I was numb to the world¡ Thus ended the promising life of Michael¡ a painter who would later be recognized but far too late for it to matter. ~v~ An odd sensation came over me¡ like swimming but without the need to hold my breath. With wasn¡¯t too cold or too hot. And I was unable to open my eyes... or was it just too dark? I don¡¯t know how long it has been¡ minutes? Hours? Days? Time seems to hold no meaning here. Where was I before this? I remember¡ I was cold, but why? [Anomaly Detected] Hmm? Who spoke just now? It was faint, but I could just hear it¡ [Cleansing Spiritual Memory¡ Failure.] [Analyzing¡ New Path Found¡] Huh, yup, I can barley hear them¡ Oi, stop mumbling! Or rather speak up! Suddenly a white light shone in the distance, and I felt myself being dragged to it, when I tried to resist nothing came of it¡ wait¡ I know what¡¯s happening! ALIENS! I¡¯m being abducted!! Oh no, call NASA somebody! I don¡¯t wanna be probed! [Initialize Resurrection Protocol 01- Code Adam] After the aliens said this I felt a warm tingly sensation all over my body, like when you cut off circulation then let it go again and the blood rushes to the starving limbs. The light became brighter and brighter¡ I¡¯m sorry Amanda my love (old girlfriend) I tried to stay true¡ but looks like the Aliens will have their way with me¡ I always loved you! Just as I thought that, what looked like soil parted and I gasped for breath, I hadn¡¯t noticed I was holding it¡ strange. But that wasn¡¯t the strangest thing by far¡ the sky was¡ pale yellow, and all around me for as far as I could see was sun baked earth with sparse, weed like vegetation. In the distance I could see looming mountains and what looked like small Oases with ridiculously tall trees around them. Before I could close my mouth, that was hung open in awe and confusion, a small green window, like something out of a video game, appeared in from of me. [Welcome to the newly created world of (Unknown)! Due to you passing a series of requirements you have been reborn as this worlds Adam!] Huh? Newly created? I look around and see that there really isn¡¯t much to be impressed about¡ I mean it looks like a wasteland to be honest. Am I dreaming, just to make sure I pinch my cheek, the texture of my skin seems different but the pain was there, so I¡¯m not dreaming then right? What¡¯s with this odd welcome window¡ or rather, what the hell! Give more information! Where the hell am I!? What¡¯s with this (Unknown) bullshit! You don¡¯t even know the name of the world? What good are you!? I try to calm down¡ and fail miserably; I mean come on this is too weird right? Can¡¯t be real! I look down at my naked body, my skin looks and feels¡ weird, it has an odd scale like pattern to it, though it feels smooth it is really tough, hence the weirdness when pinching. Under the welcome message is what looks like a quest tab¡ I touch it and the window expands into a quest description window. A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation. [Progenitors Duty. Difficulty D Instructions: You have been reborn into a new world with new rules and you are the progenitor of a new race! Find your Eve and reproduce! Side Objective: Seed the world with new life! Reward: Varies upon completion Failure: You go EXTINCT!] Oh is that all?... AS IF!! What¡¯s this about an Eve? Is that supposed to be my mate? What are we breeding stock!? And why do I have to find her? Why not make her close by! What¡¯s with this half assed development!? Two people in a huge unexplored world and we¡¯re supposed to find each other? How will this miracle come to pass? And speaking of miracle¡ I look down at my son and¡ well at least one of us grew from this experience¡ My mind is wondering¡ must focus¡ I spot the closest Oasis and decide to make my way there, it doesn¡¯t look far but it¡¯s hot and the heat could be messing with my perception. Before I made my way there, I glanced at the spot I was laying before¡ then a double take. What the f¡ Where I was laying was a perfect outline of my body, indented into the earth¡ I remember now¡ Adam was born from the earth in the Old Testament. Does that make me a golem? I think with a bit of mirth. However¡ if this was like Adam and Eve¡ where was God? Also give me my damn apple! I¡¯m hungry! Hmm¡ that¡¯s a question for when I give a damn, right now¡ All around me is nothing but baked earth and rocks. At least I was revived close to a source of water. I tried speaking already but it came out like. ¡°Irrc cough, hweees.¡± Yeah I¡¯m parched. I¡¯m also hungry, what is there to eat around here. Bah! That¡¯s not the problem! Where am I, are there any others aside from this Eve person? And what is with the play-by-play notice windows? I was never really that addicted to gaming, but I did go through a phase¡ That was definitely a quest and notice window. Something similar to a lot of games I¡¯ve played. So is this some kind of virtual world? No, I was just a hopeless bum on the street, who would put me in a virtual reality, also I don¡¯t think technology has progressed that far yet. Did I really die? And by providence, luck or some curse I was sent to this place to live again? I mean it definitely isn¡¯t my first choice of places to be but at least its warm. I hate the cold. As I was thinking of these things a noticed it in the distance, there was a thin stream of water and vegetation closer to the mountains, and along it walked large lizard like animals with what looked like fans on their backs¡ are those. Dinosaurs!? No¡ they look different from what I know, well all I¡¯ve seen are bones and TV specials but they look bulkier somehow¡ I cant really tell since they¡¯re so far away¡ maybe I¡¯ll go have a closer look after a drink. With that thought in mind, I approached the Oasis, it was larger than I thought, and the crystal clear water bubbled up from below, must be an underground channel. The trees that I thought were huge from a distance did not disappoint up close¡ they were HUGE! They were thick too, from some fallen branches I noticed the leaves were like bladed elm leaves. Though the trunk looked more like a coconut tree. I made my way to the water and inspected it, you never know what might be in it, and where I came from people didn¡¯t normally drink right from a source. There was usually filtration involved. Perhaps a bit too timidly I brought the liquid to my mouth and drank it¡ nothing¡ well I am refreshed but I tasted nothing. Huh¡ even the filtered water back home had a taste. Without even realizing it I was drinking more and more. I pulled my head away from the waters surface, since I was now unconsciously lapping it up like a dog¡ well I was rather dried out¡ you try being born from dirt and not being thirsty after the fact! Something caught my attention in the water¡ or rather what was reflected in it. My face¡ it¡¯s so¡ different. My bone structure was semi hansom before but now¡ I look almost regal. Like a noble out of some fairytale¡ however I am definitely NOT human. Though the similarities are plain to see, two eyes nose and mouth, I am completely bald¡ will not really, I can feel stubble on my head so I¡¯m not a chrome dome. I just haven¡¯t grown hair yet. Also, from the looks of things I am young¡ really young, like twelve maybe. I hadn¡¯t noticed before for some reason, maybe because of all the other stuff that occupied my mind? Or maybe I was just thrown off by the strangeness of my surroundings. Another important fact is my skin, my face has a similar pattern to the rest of my body¡ am I some sort of lizard man? But I don¡¯t have a tail and from what I can tell I¡¯m warm blooded. My eyes are also yellow like the sky¡ I suppose it could be worse¡ I could have been reborn as a cockroach. Now then, setting aside my vanity, I¡¯m hungry, there¡¯s plenty of the strange weed like plant surrounding the oasis but is it safe to eat? As I was pondering this problem I felt something cold and slimy wrap around my ankle¡ World Genesis: Volume 1 Chapter 2 Note to Readers: Please comment if you like it ;) I''m writing Blazing Translocation, but decided to take a break after rewriting the same chapter 3 times. [th_015_orz-v2.gif] Let me know what you like or dislike, I probably won''t change it if you dislike it though lol I already have it planned out... I change plans for no penguin... ~~v~~ Looking down I notice a strange grey tentacle like thing wrapped around my ankle. ¡°Oh daAMN!¡± Without further warning I was tugged hard by the slimy little bastard and dragged toward the Oasis. I try in vain to grab hold of some weeds but they were unfortunately not as sturdy as I had thought. Within the span of a few heartbeats I was dragged into the pool. Struggling I try to pry the thing off, thankfully I got a good breath before my plunge but this is a rather dire situation! It was then that I noticed my eyes saw perfectly underwater, probably due to my lizard like appearance. What I saw was both horrifying and rather interesting. The thing that holds me captive is some sort of¡ double sided eel¡ It has two heads, one on each end of its body, one head rapped around me and the other was swimming down trying to drown me. Neat! Also creepy! I calmed down a bit and a thought came to mind. When I first saw the thing around my leg I thought the obvious¡ KRACKEN! But it was just an Eel. So, using my brilliant mind I came up with a strategy for escape! With all my might I bite the damn thing and ripped out a good chunk of its flesh, in the process I lost a bit of sorely needed air¡ okay it wasn¡¯t the best idea but it worked! The thing started making a screeching sound and let me go. I swam like I never swam before! And reached the surface, inhaling deeply I quickly got out of the water. The Eel floated to the surface, well it was writhing in agony so I doubt it meant to do so. Even so I see this as a good opportunity! I quickly went to the side of the pool (being careful of the locals this time), and grabbed the slippery bastard! It seemed to be slowing down; I must have really hurt it. Wasting no time I flung it out of the water! Well half way out, the thing is about four meters long so unfortunately it took me a few tosses to shore the little jerk. It tried in vain to get back in the water but a good old-fashioned rock to the head stopped that from happening. The other head seems to have already died, I really did tear it a new one¡ literally. I bit half way through its body, seems like it doesn¡¯t have bones. Looking at it closely, each head kind of resembles a Lamprey¡ creepy. Well I found what I¡¯m going to eat at least. And all it took was a near death situation¡ I hope this doesn¡¯t become a trend. I take some of the bark and fallen branches from the trees, mix in some useless weeds (I have a hate on for them right now) and start a small fire. Do you cook Eel? I never have before so I don¡¯t know, oh well, shouldn¡¯t hurt right? I grabbed a larger stick, and ripped the Eel into sections, using the gathered weird wood, that burns quite well I might add. I spit them over the fire and turn them every now and then. All this I did AWAY from the Oasis¡ place gives me the creeps now, for good reason. I found a moderately shady spot under a tree and tried to calm my nerves. As I sit there, I notice a flashing icon in the top right of my vision. I raised my hand to click on it like you would on a tablet or touchscreen but¡ well lets just say to any onlookers I would look like a man desperately fighting off an insect. Annoyed I try focusing on the flashing icon and to my surprise I could move it with my mind! I drag it to the center of my vision and another green window pops up! [Congratulations! You have learned a new Skill: Critical Bite! Allow you to pierce through rough hide with your fangs alone! Inflicts incredible pain!] [Congratulations! You have learned a new Skill: Outdoor Survival! Chance to start a fire using wood and friction has increased by 5% Fires started by you will last 5% longer if not smothered!] [Congratulations! You have learned a new Skill: Cooking! YES/NO] This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report. ¡°Eh? Skills? Status¡?¡± (Please hold while I scream internally¡) ... .. . I think something in my brain just broke¡ I can¡¯t believe this, all this time¡ Why? Why God, why did you not tell me!? Ugh¡ well at least now I know, but I really should have seen this coming, I mean come on, green notice windows and a game like introduction? I must be showing my age because the younger me would have thought of this sooner! Though I am younger now physically¡ and I have been feeling a lot more energetic lately¡ aaah youth, a wonderful thing. Anyway, lets see what we have here¡ without further ado I select yes. And a light green window showing my status appeared. [table=#004C00]Name:AdamTitles:ProgenitorAge:10Race:UnknownSex:MaleStrength:30/100%Agility:60/100%Perception:50/100%Endurance:70/100%Dexterity:30/100%Mind:50/100%SkillsTemperature Adaptation (Active/Passive) Iron Scales (Active) Infrared Sight (Active/Passive) Critical Bite (Active) Outdoor Survival (Passive) Cooking (Passive)[/table] Hmm, race is unknown? thats kind of unhelpful. Also I¡¯m physically ten years old huh? Could have sworn I looked a bit older¡ my stats seem to be represented by percentiles. wonder if I''ll be a body builder at 100% strength. I don¡¯t seem especially strong, though that makes sense since I¡¯m still pretty young. I¡¯m definitely fast; running from danger is always a good option, I like running. Endurance must be my ability to take a hit or keep running, something like that. Seeing as I¡¯m rather healthy and my skin is tough, or is it scales? I can¡¯t really tell aside from the pattern. Anyway I¡¯m rather sturdy. Low Dexterity I can understand, since I¡¯m not exactly nimble in this new body, but what¡¯s the deal with Perception and Mind? I can¡¯t seem to get information on them¡ frustrating. I guess Mind would be intelligence or wisdom? Maybe both? Oi! I¡¯ll have you know I was top of my class! Well except for mathematics¡ maybe it¡¯s factoring my knowledge from this world as well¡ (My pride wont allow any other reason!). I have a Progenitor Title, when I focus on it a window comes up telling me about how I am the first of my race and I have a duty blah blah, I saw that already. Only weird thing I noticed was a +10% to potency¡ I¡¯m going to ignore that for now. Aside from all that I have some skills I hadn¡¯t known about, what do they do? How do I activate then? I tried Infrared Sight, it was starting to get darker now, the sun was setting and the sky was orange and red, but the shadows were longer and I was sitting under an especially large tree. I focused on the darkest place I could find and tried to activate the skill with my mind, much like I did in controlling that notification from earlier. To my surprise my surroundings were changed, or rather I perceived them differently. The ground was many shades of red and orange there were blues here and there but I can tell already this ability is for when you absolutely can¡¯t see. The details are a bit too hard to grasp when there¡¯s too much light. The other skills seem to be related to my Race, I guess you could call them Racial Abilities. I should test the other skills later, right now; I¡¯m kind of tired¡ Think I¡¯ll sleep for now, away from the water of course. There doesn''t seem to be anything dangerous nearby, and I finished the Eel, so there shouldn''t be any scavengers. Maybe tomorrow I¡¯ll go check out those strange oversized lizards I saw near the mountains. There¡¯s still a lot I need to learn about this place. World Genesis: Volume 1 Chapter 3 AC: Hello Everyone! another chapter~ I just have one question for you all for after you read this... Do you think i''m rushing it a bit too much? [th_096_K.gif] ~~v~~ I woke to the feeling of warmth; the sun was beating down on my face. Looks like the sun just rose not too long ago. That¡¯s good; I had a lot planned for today after all. First on the menu would be trying to use my Skills. After about an hour, though I can¡¯t really tell... could have just felt like an hour¡ I managed to activate and understand a bit about my Racial Abilities. First one I tried was Temperature Adaptation; I thought it might not work since it was semi passive. However I was pleasantly surprised. It looks like I was wrong about being warm blooded, whether its due to my peculiar skin or something internal I can''t see. I am able to change the temperature of my body at will. Wasn¡¯t there some kind of crazy technique in my old world that gave people unbelievable resistance to cold? I read about it once¡ a guy climbed Everest in his boxers or something. Anyway this seems to actually cool or warm up my blood, though I can¡¯t make my blood run cold, it does help with regulating temperature. Neat! Iron Scales was a bit difficult to use, I had to acknowledge the fact that I now had scales instead of skin. Though they feel soft and seamless, they are actually separate thin scales that were tight to my body and perfectly flexible. I then focused on the scales of my arm, and spoke out the name of the skill to help me focus, and what happed next was rather intriguing. Each scale bulged out slightly, like they became thicker, they also overlapped now like the scaled of some snakes. They turned a dark shade of metallic grey and then settled into their new form. Wow, I touch the scales and to my surprise I can''t feel anything from my pokes and prodding. They became a sort of armour¡ that should be useful. I relaxed my focus and retracted the skill, and my arm returned to normal. At least now I don¡¯t feel quite so¡ naked. Even though I am very naked¡ in a way I hope I don¡¯t see Eve until I rectify this issue¡ Hmm, is that why we were separated? Putting my current nudist nature aside, I go on to the next task at hand, that is, I want to learn a skill. I know, I know, last night I learned three already, but I want to know if I can actively learn them. So I set out to climb a tree¡ yup, I want the Climbing skill. I figure if there are skills like Cooking and Outdoor Survival, there must be other skills I can get from doing tasks or overcoming obstacles. I wasn¡¯t doing this because I saw a round fruit like object on top of the tree¡ seriously! I really thought this out beforehand! Of course there was just one problem, the tree was huge, I mean I can¡¯t even wrap my arms around it. So I settled for trying to awkwardly shimmy up the trunk at a slow pace. After about twenty minutes the same flashing exclamation mark appeared in my vision and I opened by focusing on it¡ difficult to do while holding on for dear life. [Congratulations! You have learned a new Skill: Free Climbing. You have demonstrated the ability to climb without supports, and will now find it easier to do so over time! Proficiency: 2/100%] [Congratulations! You have gained a new Title: Reckless One. For demonstrating a disregard for your own safety you will now be given a +5% to Perception and Dexterity when Title is equipped!] [Notice: Since Progenitor is a permanent Title, Reckless One has been automatically equipped!] Eh? Reckless? Now that I think about it this was kind of a stupid idea¡ Oh well, I¡¯m already half way up so I might as well go the rest of the way¡ though truth be told I¡¯m unsure about how I should get down... ¡°Gulp¡± On the bright side, after nearly falling five times and fining out these trees are not as sturdy at the top as on the bottom I was able to raise my proficiency to a whopping 7%! On another note, I picked the strange ¡®fruit¡¯ at the top¡ basically¡ it¡¯s a round banana. Yup, think of a banana and make it the size of a beach ball and completely round. It wasn¡¯t quite ripe, and I can¡¯t eat it until I get down. If it¡¯s even edible¡ This narrative has been purloined without the author''s approval. Report any appearances on Amazon. It was tough but I managed to get down by sliding and climbing down in intervals with the fruit in hanging from a peel in my mouth. I really don¡¯t want to do that again¡ I think I just got a fear of heights. However the fruit was rather good, I mean I know I shouldn¡¯t eat it since I don¡¯t know if it¡¯s poisonous or not. But I was kind of desperate. Despite looking like a round banana it tasted similar to a kiwi. Though maybe that¡¯s due to it not being quite ripe yet? Anyway, I learned a new skill, and was able to activate the others as well. I think it¡¯s time for a bit of exploring? I mean I can¡¯t stay in this little Oasis forever, even if I have become a little attached. So I took the other half of the weird fruit (I only ate half, thing is big after all) and set off in the direction of the mountains. I can¡¯t get over how this world looks. It¡¯s so rocky and devoid of life in some places, yet there is life here and there if you look for it. Especially close to water sources. Maybe I was just dropped in a desert like area? Though there isn¡¯t much sand to speak of. The sky is rather colourful, vibrant yellow with small white clouds. I haven¡¯t seen many animals save for the Eel and the herd of giants yesterday. When I was up in that tree I tried to get a bigger picture of my surroundings. It was all frighteningly similar. There were Oases the dotted to land, giving life to the lifeless plains. I could still see the herd from yesterday, though they seemed further away from the mountains now. There seemed to be a larger concentration of clouds to the west. Maybe it rains more over there? I should go check after I check out the locals a bit. Hmm, though I guess I¡¯m a local here now. It never really sunk in that this is my world now¡ makes me feel¡ nothing. Huh, that¡¯s weird, well I guess it¡¯s to be expected¡ I didn¡¯t have anything in my previous world. My mother raised me herself but passed away while I was in College. She was always sickly, and no matter what the doctors did she just didn¡¯t get better. She would have been the only thing tying me down there, but she passed¡ so here I am, not even a little homesick. Never knew what happen to good old Dad. It took me a few hours so walk close enough to the herd so I could get a closer look. I hid behind a large boulder¡ there were plenty to choose from. The land was rockier then usual. Yet still there was vegetation growing here and there thanks to the stream, it wasn¡¯t very deep, maybe up to my knee in the deepest parts. But that¡¯s not what I was focused on. Huge¡ that¡¯s all I can say regarding these monstrous lizards. They resemble dinosaurs a lot, to be exact though; they look like a Dimetrodon but also resemble a Triceratops with two large horns and a thick muscular body. As I silently observed I found that they must be Herbivores, they ate the weeds along the stream and seemed almost lazy in their movements. Hmm, if I had to call them something it would have to be¡ Reptileous Giganticus! [Confirmed: Reptileous Giganticus has been named, would you like to set it as the Clade name or Species name? CLADE/SPECIES] Wait what? I named them? Wait¡ now that I think about it, a lot of things around me don¡¯t have a name¡ from the World to my Race¡ does that mean I have to name them all for them to show up in my notifications? That¡¯s just lazy! Why didn¡¯t the world bother to name its own creations!? How rude¡ You shouldn¡¯t just make something then get bored of it and move on to the next one! ¡°Sigh¡¡± ¡°Well I guess it wouldn¡¯t hurt for me to name them¡ would definitely help me remember their names I guess¡¡± I whisper quietly while considering the widow in front of me. Clade, from my understanding is a term given to a group and creatures that fall under the same category whereas species would be the race name and is singular to that race. Well if there are any other huge lizards out there than I guess this name best suits them as a whole, even if I said it jokingly at the time¡ I select CLADE and named the species Triodon, combining the two names of the dinosaurs these things resemble. Just as I did so, I heard a cry of pain further away down stream¡ something was attacking the Triodon! World Genesis: Volume 1 Chapter 4 AC: This one it a bit short but I just couldn''t add anything in for filler. I mean it''s all right there you know!? [th_057_.gif] Anyway, enjoy! ~~v~~ Hmm¡ how should I put this¡ should I run? Right now, in from of my very eyes¡ a battle of monsters is unfolding. A smaller, obviously carnivorous reptile is attacking the Triodon¡¯s. It moved too quick for me to get a good look at it¡ well that and the Triodon¡¯s are just too huge! Down in front! The Triodon¡¯s are putting up a good fight but they seem rather disorganized. I wonder why? Could it be that they are a panicky beast that scares easily? My rationality says I should run now while to goings good but my curiosity is winning out. I really want to see what the predators of this world are like! So I hide and observe the Triodon¡¯s as they fight back! Go Herbivores! I can¡¯t lie, I have a soft spot for them now, seeing as I named them and they don¡¯t seem all that aggressive when not agitated. However, the current situation is changing my opinion of them slightly. One of the Triodon used its slightly curved horns to catapult something into the air! That¡¯s some impressive neck strength! Scary! Triodon use their size and horns as weapons, and damn are they ever formidable! The only reason they seem to be getting pushed back is¡ well they don¡¯t seem too bright. The living missile lands about ten meters away from my hiding spot and I finally get a good look at one. It had a Raptor like head and a tail twice the size of its body, razor sharp teeth and muddy brown scales that blend in with the environment. It has powerful looking hind legs and long thin arms that end in claws. Under the arms is a membrane like skin similar to what the Triodon have on their backs. It flailed around in pain for a while and tried to right itself. When it succeeded it ran back into the fray. It moved along the taller weeds, which almost concealed it completely, but not quite¡ that¡¯s not what got my attention though. As it moved its scales turned the same colour as the weeds! Camouflage! I¡¯m glad I saw that now, I should be more wary of the hedge like weeds in the future¡ never know what could be hiding in them. They move with practiced movements, they must hunt like this regularly. These guys¡ lets call them Hedge Raptors, they seem to hunt in packs. A few will run around the prey confusing it while one or two will attack a blind spot! [Confirmed: Hedge Raptor of the Reptileous Giganticus Clade has been named.] [Congratulations! You have learned a new Skill: Identify! For naming more than one new species you can now identify status abnormalities and names of a target! Note that this only works on named creatures.] Oh, so I was right about having to name things huh? Though if I already know their names what¡¯s the point of identifying them? What does it mean by status abnormalities? Focusing on a Triodon that is currently slowing down considerably, its brethren leaving it to its fate and moving away from the predators (Such a noble sacrifice!). I use the skill Identify. A red window appears above the struggling creature. [Triodon: [Enraged] Status Effect: [Bleeding] [Severe Wounds] Anxiety Level: 87%] Wow that could be useful, it shows a lot more than I thought it would. Anxiety Level is a godsend; I can see how they react to my presence now! If it goes beyond a certain level of anxiety will they become dangerous? Anyway, the Triodon is down, its still alive but not for long. Poor thing, you fought well! Your herd survived another day due to your sacrifice! I should leave now before I¡¯m noticed¡ Slowly I turn to the direction of my little oasis, I need some time to think on what I found out here. This novel''s true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there. Unfortunately¡ Just as I turn around I come face to face with a Hedge Raptor! It seems to be studying me, not sure if I¡¯m good to eat or not. Damn! I knew I should have run when I had the chance! Also this guy was as silent as death¡ how did he sneak up on me like that!? I quickly use Identify on it, what else could I do? [Hedge Raptor: [Aggressive] Status Effect: [Stalking Movement] Anxiety Level: 34%] A stalker! I can¡¯t run, with its powerful legs it will overtake me in an instant, right now it¡¯s either playing with its food or interested in the new dish. Maybe I can fight it? The other ones are currently preoccupied with the massive Triodon so maybe I can at least weaken it enough for me to have a chance at running away? Yeah, looks like that¡¯s my only option! The Hedge Raptor seems to notice the change in my attitude and the Anxiety level goes up to 37%! Perceptive little shit isn¡¯t he? It narrows its red eyes and takes a cautious step forward. But I wont let it have the first attack! I use Iron Scales; it¡¯s my only real effective skill to be honest. I have Critical Bite, but it¡¯s an Active skill that really only works when I get close enough. Unfortunately I can only use Iron Scales on my upper body. It is a strong ability sure but it has one fatal drawback. It decreases movement speed. I can still move, but I¡¯m slower and my movements are more restricted than without. Therefore I decided to not activate it on my legs; I¡¯ll be needing those free and fast. Seeing my transformation (I looked at myself in the waters reflection, I¡¯m pretty badass looking). It attacks! And damn is it ever fast! I barely had enough time to dodge! I bet I could take the bite of one of these and only be a little hurt, but I don¡¯t want to test it out. What can I say, I don¡¯t like pain. As an added bonus the Hedge Raptor went head first into the boulder I was hiding behind! ¡®THUD!!¡¯ Ouch! That¡¯s got to hurt! His mouth was open too¡ I don¡¯t waste the chance, my strength is not very high, but my speed is rather formidable. I lunge forward, simultaneously activation Critical Bite and go for one of the hind legs. It might have killed it had I went for the neck, however I¡¯m not too keen on being so close to those teeth. If I had to guess, it has a stronger bite than me. My teeth rip into the thigh and I tear out a nice chunk of flesh, the Hedge Raptor lets out a shrill screech! Unfortunately I mostly just tore off some scales; it was a lot tougher than the double-headed Eel from before. One thing I hadn¡¯t thought of though. Suddenly the Hedge Raptor turns three sixty degrees and whips my with its tail, I went flying! I landed hard on a slab like rock, and with blood leaking from my mouth I shakily stood up. Was this the end? I definitely couldn¡¯t run in my current condition, and I hadn¡¯t damaged the Hedge Raptor enough to run either way. Also, it seems like the cry of the Hedge Raptor got the attention of its buddies¡ This is not a good situation. I take a step back, preparing to run, I can¡¯t hope to win, I can only hope they lose interest. Just as I take a step back I hear a sound¡ ¡®Crrriick¡¯ ¡°Eh?¡± That¡¯s all I could say before the stone slab I was on suddenly collapsed and I fell. I tumbled down for god only knows how long; luckily my Iron Scaled body protected me somewhat as I descended down the slightly slanted shaft. And thus I fell down a deep dark hole. Somewhere along the way I hit my head and was nocked unconscious. World Genesis: Volume 1 Chapter 5 AC: Hello all! Chapter 5! now we''re cooking with gas! next chapter will have a few twists so just a heads up. as always. Stay frosty RRL. [th_113_.gif] ~~v~~ ¡°Uuuurgh¡± I groaned in pain as my eyes slowly opened, I was face down on the ground. Lets just say my everything hurts. Anybody get the number of that bus? Oh wait I¡¯m not in that world anymore¡ My Iron Scales seem to have deactivated the moment I lost consciousness. My head feels like its been cracked open, and my vision is still a bit blurry. I wonder how long I was out¡ there no way of knowing, unfortunately this outdated game like system needs an upgrade or two, I mean come on at least give me a clock and compass! Taking a moment to right myself I sit with my back to the closest wall. My vision clears and what I see is¡ breathtaking. I¡¯m sitting in a natural cavern, and the walls, ceiling and ground¡ are covered in beautiful blue and violet crystals. Each one has a feint glow to them, and water is dripping from the ceiling. There are little red mushrooms growing wherever water pools. Amazing, what are they? I¡¯ve never seen anything like it. As I¡¯m marveling at the large circular cavern, every inch covered in the unique crystals¡ I notice a flashing icon. This one is a yellow triangle with the exclamation mark inside. Since I cant really move much right now, I decide to have a look. [Alert: Due to prolonged exposure to high density Magical Essence, you have gained a new Ability!] [Mana Pool: Unlocked You can now develop special affinities for magic, Mana is affected by your Mind Stat and will deplete with use! You currently have MP:520/520] [Congratulations! You have unlocked an Affinity: Nature Affinity! Due to staying in a place with high Magic Density, you have been granted a random Affinity!] [Congratulations! You have learned a new Skill: Growth Acceleration! This is the base for all Nature Magic, with time and study, new uses can be found!] Wait so there was magic too? So why didn¡¯t I start off with it? Or is it something developed not given? Well considering the circumstances tied to my developing it I would assume it is more of a mutation than something everything has¡ Yay I¡¯m a mutant! As if having scales wasn¡¯t enough¡ Also my status has updated a bit, but only a little, my endurance increased by three percent and my intellect by two percent. I guess observing that fight and also surviving the fall gave me some benefits. However¡ How the hell do I get out of here? Nature Affinity is nice and all, but the only plants I see down here a weird red mushrooms growing between the crystals here and there. Though I suppose I could try using it, maybe something positive will happen! Here¡¯s for being optimistic! Now how do I use this Growth Acceleration thing? I¡¯m used to using skill with my body, but this seems to be external¡ ah well, I¡¯ll do some tests, not like I have much else I can do right now. Pointing my hand palm up to an unsuspecting patch of mushrooms, I activate the skill Growth Acceleration! Nothing happens¡ ¡°Ku ku ku¡ you are a worthy foe red mushrooms, but what about this!? I point my finger like a gun barrel at them and try to envision them growing huge, all the while I shout out¡ ¡°Growth Acceleration!!¡± Okay I wasn¡¯t really taking it very serious, I mean it could be activated by a number of different things right? Well imagine my surprise when one of the red mushrooms, which kind of resemble Mycena mushrooms with their bell like caps and long thin stems. Suddenly starts growing! ¡°Eureka!¡± Take that mushrooms, grow even stronger and¡ well actually you kind of win with this outcome don¡¯t you? Blast it all I need an offensive magic! The mushroom grows towards me, and stops at my foot, no small feet considering it was at least five feet away and was originally no taller than my hand. I wonder if I can use identify on them¡ maybe they are edible? Though from my experience red mushrooms are usually poisonous¡ on the other hand I¡¯m hungry¡ Hmm I feel like a lot of my common sense has fled me ever since being reborn. Should I be worried or chalk it up to being young (again)? I¡¯ll shelf that concern for now¡ against my better judgment. Not really expecting much, I try to identify the red mushrooms. And what came up was a little window above it¡ The author''s narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. [Unnamed] Oh? So what about if I name it? What should I name it though? I can¡¯t call it something like Red Murder or something, what if it was a perfectly edible little shroom¡ I can¡¯t condemn it to a fate like that, being named a murderer without any crime¡ why do I care? I¡¯m an ARTIST! Anyway, It looks like a Mycena type so I¡¯ll just call it that. As soon as I make up my mind and label it as such a familiar window appears. [Confirmed: Mycena has been named, would you like to set it as the Genus or Name? GENUS/NAME.] Huh, so it does it each time huh? I have to admit I was kind of counting on that. Well Mycena is a Genus so I¡¯ll go with that. So what to name it then? Red Cap? Bloody Bell? Hmm, I think I¡¯ll go out on a limb here and give it a name with meaning¡ why? Because I¡¯m hurting and I¡¯m bored that¡¯s why! I found it in a dire situation, at he bottom of an unknown chasm¡ I¡¯m wounded, probably going to die down here. Hmmm¡ How about Painful Luck? Mmmn, it doesn¡¯t fit well, ah I know! When is doubt use the same name with a different language! ¡°Suerte Dolorosa!¡± I am a genius! Spanish makes everything sound awesome! Good thing I got good grades in it or I would have probably just settled with the first one. After confirming the name I once again tried to identify it. [Mycena Suerte Dolorosa [Fugi] Blood red mushrooms of the Mycena Genus that can be used to heal minor wounds and take away pain. Use of too much can cause drowsiness.] ¡°Well I¡¯ll be damned¡¡± Or more precisely ¡®saved¡¯ I really never thought I would find something like this down here. At best I was thinking it would end me quickly instead of starving to death. For about tem minutes a maniacal laughter flooded the cavern and any subterranean creatures that were close by went into hiding. After a good laugh I reach down and pick the cap off the now huge mushroom. ¡°You know, I think everything is going to be alright!¡± I say as I chomp down on the wonderful miracle shroom. It didn¡¯t take long for me to realize my mistake¡ However it was far too late as the narcotic nature of the shroom nocked me out into a dreamless sleep. ~v~ I was probably out for a while but when I woke up I felt much better! I flexed my muscles and stretched to make sure everything was in order. Not only did it heal injuries but cured insomnia too! Finally I was able to move around and inspect the place a bit. Where I fell from was collapsed, there were tunnels¡¯ leading to god only knows where but should I just pick one that looks promising? Also there are these crystals and the mushrooms, I really don¡¯t want to leave without at least figuring out what they are and if they can help me. And well I¡¯ve grown attached to the mushrooms. It¡¯s not an addiction I can quit whenever I want! Anyway, I think I should stay here for a little while, at least until I figure out a solid plan for escape. Blindly walking around with no way of knowing where I am or where I¡¯m going could get me killed or worse. It was then that I found out something curious. The crystals had a name! I hadn¡¯t named them, so someone else must have? Or was this the only thing given a name in this entire freaking planet!? Shelving the question of who named them however, I was more interested in what they could do. After using Identify on them they seemed to be extremely useful. [Resonance Crystal: [Crystalline] Magic infused crystal, each one has its own unique resonance. Even when broken apart, the pieces will resonate with the same sound, too high or too low to be perceived by most. Can be used to store Mana. When fully charged, will emit a strong glow. ] Interesting so if I take one or two of these with me (one since I will obviously take my mushrooms with me). I shouldn¡¯t have an issue if I run into low light areas. With that in mind, I start to prepare, I picked as many of the small Suerte Dolorosa mushrooms as I could carry in one hand, and had a Resonance Crystal in the other. I really want to see if I can cultivate the mushrooms above ground with my Nature Affinity. Having something that helps me recover would be a huge help. With such thoughts on my mind¡ I left the cavern behind me, but I wasn¡¯t expecting what I would run find on the end of the tunnel. Who could have expected it? World Genesis: Volume 1 Chapter 6 I''ll admit it... I did not PR this one, I just didn''t have the time. Too much work too little time, however if there is someone who wants to PR it be my guest. I usually do it myself but a helping hand would be nice. :smoke: Even just commenting on mistakes would be helpful. ~v~ As I walked in silence and solitude I tried out my Infrared Sight ability, and as I suspected it was far more useful in dark places. I was also surprised to find that I could locate water flowing within the walls due to temperature differences. And metals seemed to be cooler than the surrounding rock. However it was hard on my eyes to keep up the ability. Not only that but my unfamiliarity with it made my head hurt¡ just not used to seeing things in a different light¡ or lack of light rather. After what seemed like hours but might have just been minutes, I have no sense of time down here. I finally found another open area. ¡ Wow, this place¡ I never would have imagined I would find something so... incredible. Steadying myself upon a ledge overlooking the new area I was awestruck. ¡°Impressive¡¡± That¡¯s all I could think to say¡ before me was a large chamber, I hesitate to call it anything else. Saying that such a beautiful place is a cavern or a cave seems almost insulting. If the surface was a blasted wasteland, then underground was a flowing oasis in comparison. All along the walls there were waterfalls that flowed from eroded pathways. And even on the ceiling among the stalactites there was water falling from cracks ranging from small to large. Below was a beautiful crystal clear lake, with water channels feeding it from the falls and a few leading away to other parts yet unseen. Some of the tunnels were huge, large enough for a whale to fit through! Along the walls and rocks grew a form of greenish black lichen, and there were even some Suerte Dolorosa mushrooms here and there in places where resonance Crystals were in high quantity. I wonder if they need it to grow? I should look into it later. Speaking of crystals though¡ if I found this place in my previous life I would have struck it rich. All around, everywhere I look there are precious metals glimmering in rich deposits. The Resonance Crystals dot the walls and illuminate the entire chamber just enough so that everything is visible. There are many tunnels leading out of the cavern¡ many of them are carved by the streams that run along to god knows where. However I have lost interest in finding a way out for now. The reason for this change of heart is simple curiosity. Aside from the various forms of fungi I also have spotted a form of seaweed that is yellow and grows in abundance. I also want a good look at that lichen, I heard that boars eat lichen¡ not pleasant but I am running low on food. I thought I¡¯d just eat the mushrooms but they have that side effect of nocking me out if I eat too much. Also they don¡¯t really seem to be very nutritious¡ In other words they don¡¯t help with my hunger. Just as I was thinking this and making my way along the uneven ground to the lake I suddenly tripped on a rock that¡ moved? Nope I¡¯m not crazy¡ yet. It moved up as I was stepping over it and tripped me. Looking back in confusion the rock turned around and I saw the reason for my fall. A crab! Or at least something similar to it¡ the shell blended in so perfectly that I didn¡¯t notice it! It isn¡¯t very interested in me, and instead goes off to nibble on some lichen; or rather it uses its ¡®claws¡¯ like knives and scrapes it up then eats it with its crab like mouth. Seeing this new creature before me¡ a slight chill runs up my spine. I forgot to look for something very important. Life. Sure I¡¯ve seen some plant life, but upon my first glance around this place I wasn¡¯t really looking for animals or other more complex life forms. I quickly remedy the situation and begin my search for foo- I mean new creatures~ Now that I am looking I see a few interesting creatures, one looks like a giant millipede and another, hanging from the walls and ceiling, resembles a four winged bat. I¡¯ll spare the details and just get straight to the names. [Boulder Crab: [Crustacean] Large crustaceans that live deep underground or in areas with large quantities of algae¡ Has a hard shell on top with a weaker underbelly.] [Quattro Bat: [Flying Mammal] Completely blind, they use echolocation and special hairs to hear and feel changes in atmosphere to see. Despite lacking eyesight, they are extremely capable. They use sonic attack to stun their prey. They eat mostly small insects and [Unknown].] [Metrepede: [Insect/Arthropod] Large insects that like dark damp places and feeds off refuse and mould] I found the Metrepede near the entrance to a new tunnel, it was eating mould that was forming around a stagnant pool of water. As for the Bats, well I was intrigued to know what they eat, but they seem mostly inactive at present¡ maybe later. I named the plants and algae too¡ [Yellow Lake-weed: [Algae] A yellow weed like multicellular Algae that grows in clear water, if ingested it will oxygenate blood and relieve physical fatigue. If used too much however it can cause mental stress and or hyperactivity.] [Black Mould: [Fungi] A dark mould made up of many spore carrying filaments, when crushed it emits a wet rotting smell. However, it may have more to it than meets the eye.] [Green Lichen: [Algae Based] Houses many nutrients due to the composite nature of its formation. Contains several algae and fungi filaments and can be used as a substitute for food... However it tastes horrible.] Oh... well thanks for the warning about the taste system notification! but next time give me more relevant information instead! Gees, it only seems to give hints and partial information... maybe Identify is meant to be more of a guid then a teacher? Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions. Oh well. I also found a strange fungi that grew along cracks and walls, it had a vine like structure and was brown, I got a weird vibe from it so I called it [Creeper Vine] even if it¡¯s a fungi the name suits it¡ the information stated that it was highly poisonous if exposed to blood or ingested. Aaargh¡ All this naming is annoying, but it¡¯s the only way I can fully understand my surroundings. There are so many things about this place that are foreign to me, even a little information now is more than the nothing I started with. Tired from the little adventure I had to sit down and try to pull my thoughts together again. My quest when I first came here told me to find Eve and populate the world with my new race. But how do I find her? Where do I start looking? And how do I get out of this place? Also... what happens if I fail... I only ever had one steady girlfriend in my past life. I can honestly admit i''m no Casanova... To feed fuel to the fire what happens if one of us dies? I take it no re-spawn points are around. Even if this is game like... It feels way too real for me to feel comfortable testing my luck with a revival... it reincarnated me once, I doubt whoever or whatever did it is going to do it again. Call it a hunch. There are so many questions but those first three are the ones I keep coming back to. I guess the only way to find her is to look, the only place to look is everywhere and this place is as good a place as any. Not exactly cut and dry¡ but wait wasn¡¯t there something else about the quest? Oh right¡ the side objective. Seed the world with new life¡ what could that mean? At first I assumed I needed to find Eve and start multiplying but wasn¡¯t that the first objective? Wait¡ Curious, I take some Yellow Lake-weed and Lichen¡ there was something in my previous world, it wasn¡¯t anything I was very interested in but I did touch on the topic during my schooling days. Hybridization. Creating new organisms from pre-existing organisms, and plant life was one of the most successful life forms in this field. Cross-pollinating a white rose with a red one made a pink rose, and so on. I tried to mix the two things together, but with little success. I used Growth Acceleration to stimulate the two but the results were¡ not very promising. I ended up with a huge weed and a lot more Lichen. So I opted to use the Fungi instead, my precious Suerte Dolorosa and the mould from before. I crushed it together and made a fine mixture of the stems and spores. I used Growth Acceleration again, this time something interesting happened, the Suerte Dolorosa grew back, but instead of being tall and having a week, long stem it became bushy and similar to the mould. Upon inspecting it, I found no real change¡ odd. Maybe I need plants similar to the weeds on the surface to make it work. Then again it did work but just not as impressively as I had expected. I expected something... new. I¡¯ll look more into it later. If I can make a place ideal for survival... maybe Eve will find me? For now I think I¡¯ll catch some Boulder Crabs for eating. At this point I¡¯d even try eating the Metrepede¡ well I¡¯m not that desperate yet. (Shivers) I managed to catch a few and using the Lake-weed I tied two shells together, making a rough pack for carrying supplies. It¡¯s a bit heavy and awkward but it does help more than it hinders. [Congratulations! You have learned a new Skill: Crafting Created tools and equipment are 5% sturdier, new equipment designs are easier to conceptualize, +5% to Mind.] Oh-ho~! Now that I have this I should look for materials and make some pants! I feel kind of naked here¡ oh right I am naked¡ funny how your modesty just jumps out the window when you¡¯re resurrected as a new race on a hostile world where every new thing might try to eat you. Thankfully the Hedge Raptor was the only one who came close though¡ well there was that Eel thing¡ I never did officially name that thing. For some reason it only works if I have it within sight and I settle on the name officially without doubts. Anyway, I think its time to move on, I¡¯ll follow the larger stream coming into the chamber, and maybe I¡¯ll find an exit. As I get up and ready to leave I heard a rumbling sound. Earthquake? Hmm no the ground isn¡¯t moving enough... What then? Do I want to know? Probably not¡ lets just pretend I heard nothing¡ Unfortunately I didn¡¯t get the chance, as a large clawed muscular leg stepped out of one of the larger tunnels... the one I had planned on using... dratted luck. Massive, was the first thing I thought. A giant monster of a reptile had entered, and its piercing ice blue eyes were staring daggers at me. A body, covered in hard lustrous grey scales, spikes along its back and brow and two huge wings folded on its back. It had hot breath I could feel from across the chamber and intelligence clearly displayed from its intense stare. Even though the tunnel was rather large it had to make itself as small as possible to move through it. In retrospect I was fortunate to not be wearing pants... though I never felt so naked in my life. Breathlessly I whispered out the name of what was before me, a creature that could go by no other name¡ ¡°D-Dragon¡¡±
maybe Hueptiles lol or I can take the old Saurian name from popular names for big lizard like creatures :P they are similar I guess... he may not be cold blooded but he is closer to a reptile than he was when human! :criesBo: can you understand my dilemma here?? World Genesis: Volume 1 Chapter 7 Okay... so I haven''t nessisarily 100% proof read this one... why you ask? because of reasons thats why! [th_111_.gif] Seriously though, enjoy the read... was on vacation for a while so it has been a while since the last update. ~~~v~~~ [Warning: an Epic Monster has appeared, proceed with caution!] E-epic? This is a freaking DRAGON! I admit I was surprised about magic being a reality here¡ but Dragons too!? Should I try running? But where should I run? It came from that tunnel so that must be the way out no? In other words¡ I¡¯m trapped! If I run down one of the other tunnels¡ who knows where I¡¯ll end up¡ I¡¯ll just get completely lost wont I? Maybe I can fight it? HA! Yeah right, a Hedge Raptor very nearly ate me! A Dragon is out of the question! No chance, Nadda, Zip, Game Over man, Game OVER! ¡ .. . It¡¯s just staring at me¡ its eyes look like they are gazing at a lump of meat. I should try Identifying it¡ maybe it will give me a clue for escaping this certain death situation. [World Dragon: [Dragon Progenitor] Stand in awe, for the ultimate Lord of earth and sky is before you. World Dragons are not strictly native to one world; they appear when worlds governed by the laws of magic are formed. Created by the excess Magical Energy from the very creation of the world. They are Immortal Existences and often are perceived as Gods or Demons. This one is still rather young. [Anxiety Level: 5%]] Oh¡ is that all? I feel as though something irreplaceable has broken inside me. Well, it was a nice dream but it looks like Eve will have to carry on without me. I¡¯m sure she can find some way to reproduce without me¡ yeah maybe not. Do I seem calm? Hmm, maybe that¡¯s what broke¡ I think my fear and anxiety was so great they kind of just stopped working¡ what¡¯s with that? Oh well, I¡¯ve got nothing to lose so I might as well try talking to it right? I mean it clearly knows I am no threat. Yet it just stands there¡ is it curious? It¡¯s certainly not afraid of me¡ I mean its anxiety is rather low. Well¡ let¡¯s give it a shot. ¡°Eh¡ hello, want some Boulder Crab? Very delicious and super nutritious!¡± GAH! That was terrible! Why am I trying to feed the giant Dragon of doom!? Might as well butter myself up with a side of crab! Fortunately it doesn¡¯t seen to be hungry¡ rather it kind of looks confused. It probably doesn¡¯t understand my language; not surprising considering it comes from another world. The World Dragon lets out a deep hum¡ yeah I¡¯m confused, I was expecting a growl or a roar, possibly a close up of its teeth, but it almost looks like it¡¯s¡ considering something. Thinking deeply. Ah that¡¯s right, World Dragons are intelligent, it may not know my words but it does know they have meaning? Something like that¡ I honestly didn¡¯t think I would be alive for this long, hurray for buying time! Though I don¡¯t think I¡¯ll stay a curiosity for much longer. It seems to have come to a conclusion over whatever it was thinking about. The Dragons head lowered down to face level with mine. We¡¯re literally looting eye to eye. And oh my¡ what bit eyes it has! They are rather beautiful if you can get over how imposing they are. Also now that I see it up closer¡ its scales are not grey¡ but silver. They reflect the surrounding colours splendidly, and the stone around here is all shades of grey with a few limestone and sandstone deposits here and there. Its eyes are locked on mine and¡ ehg¡ what¡ is this¡ My head¡ splitting¡ A screeching sound pierces my mind; it¡¯s not really painful so much as nauseating. No matter how hard I try, I can¡¯t seem to pry my eyes away from its gaze. Even though I¡¯ve fallen to my knees¡ it wont let me look away. I don¡¯t know how long we were staring into each other¡¯s eyes¡ I lost track of time, everything started to feel so surreal. Then¡ slowly¡ I started to see images, soaring above the clouds¡ a great lake of lava¡ I heard the first screams of a newborn world. How could I tell what they were? It¡¯s strange¡ but I just know¡ is the Dragon imparting onto me some kind of understanding through feelings? Ah¡ I didn¡¯t figure that out¡ it just told me. Weird¡ it feels like I¡¯m thinking and feeling these things but it¡¯s actually her. Yes¡ it is a she¡ the mother of all dragons. I understand now. Not only is she sharing her own thoughts and feelings but she is also taking from my own. She seems to be examining my mind¡ should I be worried? No¡ she only wants to know my words¡ to communicate more smoothly. A few minutes after it began¡ or maybe it was hours¡ it ended. The stream of images and feelings stopped and I was left¡ alone. I felt an overwhelming sense of loss¡ of loneliness. It had felt like for the first time in either of my lives I had truly become close to someone¡ and then they were gone¡ nothing but silence and darkness where they once were. Slowly I came back to my senses¡ I don¡¯t feel fear for this Dragon now. I respect the fact that she could crush me without even trying. Yet I understand that is not her intention. She has been alone for hundreds of years. The thought of finding someone intelligent and conversing with him never even crossed her mind. And yet here we are. She closed her eyes and raised her long scaly head back up high. ¡°Such a strange creature you are¡ these words¡ They are interesting.¡± A soft feminine voice echoed inside my mind. It wasn¡¯t like before, she was simply speaking telepathically. Honestly I wouldn¡¯t have known the difference had I not felt it. Before it was more like¡ our minds occupied the same space, whereas now we are simply transmitting words through thought. Or she is rather¡ I don¡¯t know that trick unfortunately. Love this story? Find the genuine version on the author''s preferred platform and support their work! ¡°You¡ wow. I don¡¯t even know what to say¡ that¡¯s a first.¡± When I speak it sounds like I haven¡¯t drank anything for days. I take the time to stumble over on unsteady legs over to the nearby stream. She let out a hum that sounded almost akin to laughter, an odd sound that didn¡¯t quite match her ferocious appearance. ¡°That is natural, I have attempted to communicate with beasts before, and they usually feint or go wild. You did surprisingly well.¡± Honestly she seems to be very satisfied¡ I felt her loneliness when we were connected. Even if it¡¯s in a way she isn¡¯t quite used to she seems pleased with just being able to communicate. I kind of know how she feels¡ I¡¯ve only been alone for¡ well I don¡¯t exactly know how long since I¡¯m in a cave. But it hasn¡¯t been hundreds of years for sure. Honestly I was already starting to lose it a little in that short amount of time. ¡°Now then¡ little one, what exactly are you? I tried to find out through the¡ union¡ however I found no answers.¡± What am I? Huh¡ good question, I¡¯ve gone about naming things haphazardly recently yet I myself am still an Unknown. The only thing I do know is that my name is Adam¡ I do not however know who gave me that name. I guess I figured it was all a part of that quest I got. ¡°My name is Adam, I was¡ recently born in this world. Honestly I don¡¯t know exactly what I am. However¡ if you would give me a moment?¡± She didn¡¯t seem surprised over this revelation¡ chances are she knew my name already. However she hadn¡¯t pried too deeply into my mind. So she couldn¡¯t have known about my other life or that I was only recently born However she seemed to understand what I meant. Interesting¡ maybe she can give me some solid answers about this place and where I fit into all of it. First and foremost though¡ what should I call my race? I¡¯m a scaled humanoid, my scales are soft and have the elasticity of flesh when in a relaxed state, however when I activate my racial ability Iron Scales they look almost snakelike. Scales¡ Scalian? Hmm it¡¯s good, but it only speaks of my lizard like attribute. I¡¯m also similar to a mammal, I have warm blood¡ well it can very in temperature but it never runs cold¡ I tested it. Maybe I¡¯m thinking too much about the physical¡ were there names for lizard men on Earth? I seem to remember a few¡ Saurian means lizard like¡ there was this one guy in Mortal Kombat named Reptile¡ Gaaaah! This is way harder than I thought it would be. I look at the World Dragon and she seems to be humming to herself¡ or is she just getting bored? I shouldn¡¯t keep her waiting. After all an annoyed World Dragon is a very bad thing to have too close. Ok I¡¯ll go with Saurian for the Clade name, but what of my actual Race? Hmm¡ I always liked Greek mythology¡ there was a Gorgon, they were known to be half snake¡ but I lack the whole stone gaze and the crazy snake hair¡ for now. How about Cecrops? Not the most well known myth but Cecrops was the founder first king of Athens. It was said he was born from the earth and was half snake half man. Sounds about right. Okay! From now on I am a Humanoid Saurian Secropsian! It sounds nice¡ and I like the meaning behind it¡ very nice¡ hope Eve approves. [Confirmed: Secropsian of the Humanoid Saurian Clade has been named.] [Congratulations! You have received a Race Name! Your status window will now show Secropsian as your Race! Secropsians are versatile and intelligent. They have great potential for growth and a solid foundation in Agility and Endurance. They hold the capacity for growth in numerous ways.] Also I hadn¡¯t noticed it before but I had gained a new ability from before when I was¡ mind jacked? Anyway¡ [Congratulations! You have learned a new Ability: Lesser Telepathy! The eyes are the window to the soul, or in this case the mind. You can now telepathically converse with anyone or anything that looks you directly in the eye. Maximum distance ten meters.] Not sure how useful this will be¡ but it is certainly a welcome addition. I guess when she went poking around in my head she had to¡ rewire a few things¡ not sure how I feel about that. Anyway. ¡°Sorry to keep you waiting, as I said, my name is Adam and I am a Secropsian. It is my pleasure to make your acquaintance.¡± I bowed my head in a show of respect. Nailed it! That was my best greeting; I decided not to flatter her too much¡ seeing as she can see right through me¡ literally. She already knows I¡¯m in awe of her¡ couldn¡¯t hide that since it was in the forefront of my mind when we connected. She was busy sniffing my makeshift pack when I spoke and drew her attention back to me. She seems to have insatiable curiosity¡ I admire that in a person¡ or Dragon in this case. ¡°Oh? You are finally done thinking to yourself? this is good. Secropsian was it? I suppose that will do.¡± Oy! I put a lot of thought into that! ¡And thus my conversation with a World Dragon began. ~~~~v~~~~ Honestly you would think 2k words would cover more space (sigh). :sigh:
many revelations in the next chapter! World Genesis: Volume 1 Chapter 8 ¡°Hruuum, I am Arumarra, the first and strongest of Dragon kind. I have lived for many turns little one. I sensed you have questions for me?¡± I have to admit it was a bit embarrassing but the majority of our conversation at the beginning was about the world. I asked her if she was the one who named the Resonance Crystals and other ores and minerals. To my surprise they were named when the world was created. Things like Limestone and Iron Ore were named as well. It would seem that as long as it was the world¡¯s basic lifeless and inanimate materials that were created at the birth of the world they had a name. Living creatures however seemed different. Like they were born from a different force, or perhaps were not as important? Maybe the god of this world was just lazy? If gods were even involved of course. Which brings to light another big question. Who created this world and the creatures that roam it? She simply laughed (which sounded like a low hum) and told me she did not know for certain, there were theories of course, but they all went into the realm of spiritual beings or perhaps the world itself was sentient. ¡°In the end, it all falls to the individual to decide what the right answer is.¡± I was hoping for something a little more concrete but I guess that answer was expected. Who creates the world? Some god or transient spiritual being perhaps¡ I guess even though she¡¯s a mythical World Dragon she wouldn¡¯t know everything. I told her about my birth and my encounters thus far, which weren¡¯t many unfortunately. We spoke of the quest and she mentioned something similar happened for herself. However unlike me and my notices and windows, she was told through a method Dragons can understand, that she was the first of her kind and needed to reproduce. When I asked her the method, she stated it was a feeling, and an understanding. Dragons are really deep creatures. When I spoke about Eve she made a concerned face, (I think¡ hard to tell) and told me she had not seen another of my kind. ¡°I¡ as a World Dragon, can breed without a mate, others of my kind can do so as well¡ however not to the extent I can. They may lay a single egg every one hundred years, however I can lay an entire clutch!¡± She went on to talk about how it takes two years to lay her eggs, and another ten for them to hatch! She can also only get pregnant once every one hundred years! Wow, talk about a long dry season. On top of that¡ she doesn¡¯t need a mate? ¡What¡¯s the fun in that! She described the many different creatures she had come across in her long life. Despite its length however, she has only recently started to lay eggs. And she was sleeping most of the time. Dragons certainly like to take their time huh¡ ¡°I have traveled far and wide, however I have not seen it all as of yet. There is simply too much, this land is vast and mostly barren, but there is a beauty in it nonetheless.¡± Too vast or too lazy¡ I kept this question deep within my heart lest she step on me. ¡°Have you seen any forests? Grasslands perhaps?¡± I couldn¡¯t mask my curiosity; I had become a bit homesick for greener pastures I suppose. ¡°Hruummm¡ to the north of here¡ a large area is covered in green life. I do not know if it is what you seek¡ however¡ from your words, forest is associated with green life no?¡± Ah, I forgot, if it isn¡¯t a mineral of the world it doesn¡¯t have a name, she wouldn¡¯t know what grass is, save for the feeling that I associate with it. Life for example, it¡¯s green and alive. However, this does make me hopeful¡ I just gained Nature Magic and I kind of want to see what I can do with it after all. As I was thinking this something she said before finally hit me. ¡°So¡ you said you recently started laying eggs¡ does that mean we are close to your nest?¡± She was silent for a while, almost as though she had forgotten what she had said from before¡ or was regretting it? Did I say something wrong? ¡°Indeed, my clutch is close by¡ however, I cannot allow you to go near them.¡± She seemed rather defensive, almost desperate when she stated this. I was a little disappointed, but something in her tone¡ it was a little frightening¡ and almost¡ sad? I won¡¯t claim to be an expert, but I can almost feel an echo from our connection before¡ something she hid, but was not capable of concealing perfectly. ¡°What¡¯s wrong? Did I say something rude? I¡¯m sorry, I didn¡¯t mean to intrude or anything, It was really just curiosity.¡± And a fair amount of apprehension, after all, if she was laying eggs, things were going to get lively when they hatched. She visibly calmed after what I said, and she seems to feel awkward about her behavior. ¡°I apologize as well, I do not distrust you Adam¡ however I have already met with¡ tragedy, once before.¡± She went on to tell me about how not so long ago, she had laid her first clutch. As a mother, they were special, the first of her children. Even if they were a clutch of Lesser Dragons they were her first¡ and she loved them all. She described Lesser Dragons as being less intelligent, though still Dragons they were incapable of speech like she used with me. Even so¡ they were all such pure things¡ with so much potential. By the way, Lesser Dragons encompassed Wyverns, Dr¨¢kal and Pygmy Dragons. Whereas Greater Dragons are High Dragons, Wyrms and Tri-Horned Wyverns. Her words broke my heart¡ through the telepathy I could feel the great sense of loss she suffered. When I asked what happened however¡ her eyes became fire, and her words burned within my mind. ¡°Those FILTH! Egg smashers! Savages! I could not protect them! I had another clutch on the way¡ there was nothing I could do, fighting would have damaged the still growing ones within!¡± The Lesser Dragons were born first, and what she referred to as Greater Dragons took longer in the womb. In reality they were a part of the first clutch but had yet to be lain. In her pregnant state, fighting off what she described as Filthy Blue Savages, or the Nulphor, was impossible. The reason why it takes two years for her to lay her eggs is due to having two sets of eggs within her. The Lesser Dragons were the first set and the Greater the second. She swore that she would return when her children were hatched and strong enough to fly. She would burn the filthy savages from the world, leaving not but ashes. I was intrigued about the Nulphor, however I knew she didn¡¯t want to talk about them anymore. And who am I to irritate a mother Dragon further? ¡°I understand, I wont press you further on the subject, I can see how it hurts you.¡± I could only calm her with my words but she seemed to settle after a while. Soon she let out a soft hum, reminiscent to a sigh, and asked. ¡°So then little one, what will you do now, will you search for your female?¡± Glad that the cave survived her sudden anger¡ it was starting to shake a little for a bit there¡ or maybe that was my shaking. I thought about her question in earnest. I didn¡¯t know where Eve was, but I couldn¡¯t just sit down here waiting for her to find me. At the same time I needed a place to designate as the center of my search area. A base. ¡°I need to find Eve, but I can¡¯t just run out there without a plan. I also would prefer it if I hade a place to return to, a base of operations so to speak. What do you think?¡± Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit. Her giant head tilted a bit in thought and a low hum could be heard. I didn¡¯t have any ideas, but she had been around for a while¡ I could only hope. ¡°Why not stay here? Though it is close to my clutch and if I see you enter it, friend or no I will eat you.¡± (GULP) The relaxed way in which she said that made no room for doubt¡ I couldn¡¯t help but shudder a bit from the thought. ¡°Aah... well¡ as nice as being neighbors would be¡ I don¡¯t want to be accidentally ea- I mean lost down here¡ tunnels are confusing and such. You know how it is.¡± I was always a bad liar, and of course she saw right through me, but she simply nodded in understanding. She thought some more about it¡ ¡°Hruumm, I have an idea, follow me little one.¡± With that she moved to an adjacent tunnel and walked down it, her steps¡ more like stomps, shook the cavern ever so slightly. These tunnels¡ I thought so before but they seem unnatural. Did she perhaps dig them? Their surfaces were so smooth though. After about ten minutes we surfaced from the caverns, that was actually really easy¡ wait¡ that other tunnel I was going to walk down before¡ where she came from. I involuntarily shiver. I seriously dodged a bullet there; I was almost Dragon chow! Anyway, now that we are out of the cave I can see that it is nighttime now. Yesterday I went to sleep before it became very dark. But now¡ wow¡ in the morning the sky is a pale yellow. However at night¡ so many stars. In one direction I can see an entire galaxy! And two moons! One orbits the other¡ so¡ so alien! And awesome! The vibrant cosmic dust from the nearby galaxy lights up the night sky, but somehow doesn¡¯t dwarf the light of nearby stars. I¡¯m no astrophysicist¡ but if I were, I¡¯d be drooling. Pulling my eyes from the night sky I focus on my surroundings. It¡¯s all pretty much the same, however now I¡¯m right at the foot of those small mountains I saw in the distance on my first day. Just how far did I fall down that sloped tunnel? Before I could catch my bearings any longer Arumarra¡¯s large clawed hands grabbed me. Being careful not to make me into mincemeat. Nevertheless it was rather terrifying. She inhaled and her body seemed to expand slightly, then with a strong flap of her wings we were flying! Putting aside my terror and confusion after a few seconds of unrestrained screaming¡ I mean yelling¡ a manly bellow. It was rather enjoyable, and the view was perfect! It was only for a few moments though. I could see that the world was extremely vast¡ I couldn¡¯t see any sign of oceans or large lakes. Of course that didn¡¯t mean they weren¡¯t there, just extremely far away. When we landed I noticed we were on the smallest hill. Though it was the smallest you could still call it a mountain. However hiking up and down wouldn¡¯t be impossible to do in one day. There¡¯s still higher to climb, however scaling it would be impossible without tools or flying. It almost resembles a large bowl that can¡¯t quite cover the top of the hill. And there are slopes leading down from my position, eroded by water most likely. That solves the question of whether or not it rains around here. It also makes it easier to climb up and down. I was about to ask her what was going on, but when I looked at her I was so surprised I nearly fell on my ass! Arumarra had bright blue flames leaking out of her mouth and her eyes were fiercely focused. With a loud noise similar to the howling of an intense storm she let loose a blazing inferno so hot and so condensed that it literally vaporized the rock face of the nearby bowl top I noticed before. She slowly burnt away layer upon layer of stone, melting and vaporizing it with her hellish breath. After a while she was half way within a hole of her own making. She began hollowing it from the inside out. Those tunnels from before¡ they were obviously dug in the same fashion. I now know why the walls seemed so unnaturally smooth. After only ten minutes Arumarra exited the newly dug cave. She seemed quite pleased with herself, as a soft hum escaped her throat. I thought all was done but she suddenly inhaled again, making me scramble for cover to escape the heat. This time however was just normal air, even if it was excessively powerful! Hot air escaped the newly dug cave until the inside was cooled to a bearable temperature once more. Pleased, she looked at me, who was hiding behind a rock and stated. ¡°We Dragons can use this method to make caves and nests in remote areas. My first nest was atop a mountain¡ I prefer my deep nest now however. Will this suffice? Of course you may still use the deep caves for hunting and water needs.¡± My eyes at this point were like saucers and even though I now had scales they seemed paler than before. Epic Monster¡ that notice before wasn¡¯t joking around! ¡°Eh¡ Thank you Arumarra, though you didn¡¯t have to go through so much trouble, I really do appreciate it.¡± Saying this I tentatively walked away from the safety of my precious hiding place and moved to check out the new living arrangements. The opening was a bit large¡ but I think I might be able to fix that. The inside however¡ was wonderful! The walls look like fine obsidian¡ actually I think that is obsidian! Actually I¡¯m not that surprised to be honest. Her fiery breath was like a focused attack from the sun. Well I may be exaggerating a bit. The floor wasn¡¯t perfectly flat but had a slight oval shape, however this was barely noticeable. Therefore I ignored it. It was unexpectedly spacious; the domed ceiling gave it a sort of¡ depth. I kind of like it, I mean it¡¯s no hotel suite but for me? Home sweet home. I doubt I could find a more comfortable location, and safe too. High ground is perfect for me; it will also help when I decide which way I want to go. The way I see it, Eve is in the North, South, East or West¡ four decisions. Really that¡¯s all I have right now so I might as well look around here for a few days then head in a new direction. I only hope I can find some kind of clue¡ and I definitely need to strengthen myself and prepare. That¡¯s another reason for sticking around here for a while longer. I should at least be able to kill a Hedge Raptor right? That is my goal before I leave this area. ¡°I like it, it¡¯s very homey¡ thank you Arumarra, you have helped me in so many ways, if you ever need anything¡¡± ¡°Hruumm, no need to thank me little one. It is late, you must be tired.¡± AH! I forgot my pack of shro- I mean supplies¡ well I suppose I can get them tomorrow. We both said our goodbyes and promised to speak more in the morning. This really is a nice little hole in the ground. Real cozy. I think I¡¯ll even give it a name¡ I dub thee¡ The Man Cave! It didn¡¯t take long for me to sleep; I was pretty tired¡ been tired a lot lately¡ perhaps I¡¯m just growing? Well, in the morning I¡¯ll start to prepare myself for the search. I just hope Eve can wait a little bit longer.
I hope I didn''t miss anything -.- been over it a few times... I don''t think I missed anything... (checks notes) hmmm. ah, i''m sure if I did it will be pointed out eventually lol. World Genesis: Volume 1 Chapter 9 Okay~ so some of you may be upset for the late update, you may have been planning some nefarious plan of abducting me, duct taping my to a chair and forcing me to write the next chapter. HOWEVA! I had my reasons, and those reasons are: But seriously, aside from life crap going on, this chapter was a doosey to write, so much information! [th_085_.gif] ENJOY! :) ~~~WG~~~ It has been three whole days since I met Arumarra. I¡¯ve not been idle in that time¡ First I went to the base of my hill which took me about fifteen minutes. I had to carefully pick my way down in some areas, which was a bit annoying. When I reached the bottom I found a few trees, they weren¡¯t huge but they were mature enough to produce that fruit and that¡¯s all I required. I also noticed a convenient spring nearby; it seemed to well up from the earth. Not surprising with the amount of water I found down there. After collecting the seeds from the fruit and having a nice long drink I made my way down to Arumarra¡¯s area. I was careful not to go any further than the cavern I discovered the day before. Gathering up my improvised bag full of Suerte Dolorosa, yellow algae, mold, lichen and crab meat that I planned on preserving I added the seeds to the mix. It didn¡¯t take long for Arumarra to notice my presence, in fact she probably knew before I reached the caverns. She was far more perceptive than me. Especially with her powerful Telepathy ability, which unlike mine didn¡¯t need eye contact to function. It was only strengthened by eye contact. We spoke for some time; she began explaining to me the principles of magic in this world and how to progress as a magic user. Unfortunately she couldn¡¯t teach me much about its use for my race. Draconic magic is all about instinct and emotion, whereas most other races had a different method of controlling it. I seem to use what¡¯s known as Magic Weaving as opposed to Magic Casting. Weaving is the act of stimulating the Magical Essence in the surroundings, creating an effect through inspiring growth or reduction in energies. I can guide those energies on the paths I want them to take. Later on I should be capable of crossing energies to get a different result, like adding air and fire to increase fire effectiveness. Or taking away impurities in metal to only have the metal remaining. Using complex guidance and exciting the right energies I should be able to do things that a Caster can¡¯t do no matter how much Magical Power they use. Honestly I liked this kind of magic, it was creative and inspiring¡ truly something tailored to my own way of doing things. Arumarra is technically a magic Caster, she is capable of getting immediate results from her magic and didn¡¯t need to go through any complicated rituals. However the price for this was increased energy consumption¡ then again she¡¯s a World Dragon and has a magic capacity large enough to destroy a planet¡ scary. As a result there was very little she could teach me, thankfully though she was able to teach me the basics regarding elemental magic. Fire, Earth, Water and Air were all Elemental Magic and in order to use them, you had to be in tuned with said element. In smaller words, I had to meditate while getting burned, soaked, blasted with air and taking a dirt bath. A lot of it was Arumarra simply guessing at how I would attain Elemental Magic. But surprisingly I actually did get some results. [Congratulations! You have gained a new Affinity: Lesser Earth Affinity!] [Congratulations! You have gained a new Affinity: Lesser Water Affinity!] HA! One small step for man, one giant leap toward killing a Raptor! Interestingly enough Earth and Water were only Lesser Affinities¡ in other words they allowed the most basic of control over the elements. When I asked Arumarra why they were Lesser Affinities her explanation was this. ¡°Hruum¡ Those not born or gifted with magic cannot train in magic¡ you were granted the Natural Affinity. Earth and Water are the closest two Affinities to Nature, it does not surprise me that you are gifted in their use. However due to not being born with them¡ you must slowly attune yourself to them over time.¡± So basically if you aren¡¯t gifted from birth or lucky enough to find a resonance cave you were shit out of luck? That sucks! Well¡ at least there¡¯s a way to remedy the issue, and I wasn¡¯t forced to live my life without magic. That would just be way too inconvenient. I was however a little surprised when Arumarra told me that staying in a Resonance Chamber¡ that is the cave with all the Resonance Crystals in case you forgot. Can sometimes lead to death from brain hemorrhaging¡ yikes. It was rare for a creature to be born without Inherent Magic, but apparently my Inheritance came in the form of my Racial Abilities like Temperature Adaptation, Iron Scales and Infrared Sight. These abilities if trained could combat even magic. Due to these Abilities it would be rare for anyone in my race to be born with Magic Affinities. Bogus I say! Although my Racial Abilities are kick ass I must admit. Oh well, on to more interesting things. My Earth affinity allowed me to harden or soften the earth around me¡ unfortunately I couldn¡¯t throw pebbles like a gun shot, that would apparently require a more developed affinity¡ grrr. However the uses for this magic were many, I could use it to augment my Nature Magic or I could mix it with Water Affinity to make a quagmire! I can also shape stone and metals¡ oh I¡¯m going to have fun with this later kuhuhu. Water Affinity is a bit more interesting, unlike Earth it can be moved freely through the air, only a little sluggishly. I can purify it and even create mini geysers. Although on a world with little water this might be seen as a bad combat magic¡ it is never the less indispensable for obvious reasons. I can literally separate water from the earth or plants around me! Though this may be bad for the world, if I¡¯m dehydrated I will definitely use it kuhuhu. New toys aside I had another reason for seeing Arumarra today. When I explained what I wanted she agreed rather quickly which I was a bit surprised about but chalked it up to her being a good friend. What I wanted was a path, there was a slope down my hillside but it was uneven and a bit annoying so I asked the mighty World Dragon Arumarra to¡ pave it for me. Yeah I know call me lazy but that powerful breathe of hers is just way too convenient! It only took her a half hour to complete and when it was finished I had a smooth path that spiraled around my hill all the way to the top! That made going up and down easier and lets be honest, it looked awesome. After that we talked about magic a bit more. Mainly about how magic is separated into many groups and forms, honestly it is all rather complex. There are three main groups of magic; Magical Essence, Magical Energy and Magical Power. Magical Essence was the most basic of the basic; I guess you could call them the Atoms of a Magical World. They make up all non-organic and organic matter. Every element in the world is made of Essence. There are Additive Essence, Negative Essence and Neutral Essence. Everything has just the right balance of all three. Additive Essence is what can be seen as the source of all life, it can also be seen as cancerous, too much can pollute the world making it unbalanced. Negative Essence is the hard working clean up guy! It attacks Additive Essence and feeds off of it. Thus life will age and eventually die. Too much of this fella and lets just say you end up with a whole lot of nothing! Neutral Essence is between the two; it is also the densest of the three. Earth and stones have dense Neutral Essence, it attracts both additive and Negative Essence to itself, this allows for new forms of elements to be created. Basically it¡¯s a core building block for all new elements and even life. Understand? Even Magic has a system that it is built upon. Magical Energy is a bit different¡ Basically all living things create it, it¡¯s what powers out minds and bodies, feeding cells and creating new ones under the right conditions. It is also seen as the Soul or Spirit, deep within the core of every living thing, Magical Energy resides that is extremely dense, this is where Essence is refined into Energy. This Energy is affected by the living creature it resides in¡ the mental stability of the creature can affect the nature of the energy produced. In simple terms¡ some people are bad, thus their outward appearance and aura gives off a feeling of danger, while good people can make others comfortable. Last but not least is Magical Power, or as my Status likes to call it, MP. MP is a byproduct from Magical Energy that normally would leak out naturally and dissipate or be consumed by things that crave it¡ like the undead. Yeah I wanted to ask more about them too, but this was more important. Anyway, MP can sometimes be stored within the body and controlled by those who have developed a connection with elements or magic in general. This Affinity forms a Magic Power Stone just beneath the sternum for most races. This allows the storing of MP and it¡¯s use. Weavers like myself use MP to excite and guide magic into creating a specific affect. Whereas Casters use the MP within them and convert it into elements or pure power, this drains the MP faster but produces immediate results. There was a lot of information to take in, and my head was starting to hurt from it all. However she eventually left to go warm her eggs. She seems to have a telepathic connection with them, and knows what they want or if they¡¯re in danger. By that time though I no longer needed her help, she really did do a lot for me so I should think of a way to repay her later. Anyway, I set about tilling the earth on my hilltop, making it soft but not too soft. I thought about using it for the path before but in the end Arumarra was just way faster. Once the earth was softened and moistened with my magic I went about growing my various plants! First were the trees, they were planted close to the Man Cave for shade and easy access to fruits. I named the trees Kiwood Trees and the melon sized kiwi fruits Meloki melons. Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere. My awesome naming sense strikes again Kahahahaha! Using my Nature Magic I was able to accelerate their growth, they grew about as tall as my Man Cave. I then went about trying to grow other things; the results were not what I had hoped. The Suerte Dolorosa couldn¡¯t grow without Resonance Crystals and the others save for the Lichen wouldn¡¯t grow at all. I surmised that they needed a dimly lit environment to thrive. Even the mold withered in the sun. And the yellow algae needed water, but seemed to wither in the heat. I decided to take a few Resonance Crystals from the caverns and make a garden border out of them. The result was satisfactory¡ my shrooms were ALIVE! Muahahahahaha! ¡ Moving on. I had an idea from my previous conversation with Arumarra. Weaving magic was the process of guiding magic to take a certain effect. I noticed that sometimes I would use Nature Magic and I would think. ¡°Hmm I want it to go this way.¡± Surprisingly enough, when I thought that while really concentrating it would follow my directions! After some trial and error I finally made a tree with a spiraling trunk! Looked awesome! But the thing that really got to me was. [Congratulations! You have unlocked the Ability: Guided Growth! Using your sheer willpower and imagination you can coerce nature into any form you choose!] Also my Mind stat went up by one point! After gaining this awesome new ability I immediately pla- I mean put it to good use~ by designing a door! My Man Cave is a superb example of finer cave man living, however the entrance was pretty needlessly huge. Using Nature Magic I grew two trees, one on each side. I guided them into a perfect arch with branches outside the opening to gather the needed sunlight. I then had arm thick branches grow from each side intersecting in the center. Then I used my magic to open and close it! Haha I¡¯m a genius! Now I had a good deterrent from the weather and possible predators that were courageous or stupid enough to approach Arumarras nest area. After all that I had a nice dinner of crabmeat and melons, simple but it did the job right. I used water magic to gather enough water and boiled it over a fire. Boiled crabmeat is indeed my favorite so far! Thanks to magic I had an unlimited supply of firewood! Nature Affinity rocks! After that it started to get darker, I think the hours in the day are shorter on this world. I made an improvised sundial once I flattened the land with earth magic. And sure enough the minute hand represented by the shadow moved a little faster than I¡¯m used to. I¡¯m no mathematician but I think the days are about eighteen hours long. And the nights are shorter too. Not that it matters though; I basically just go to sleep when I¡¯m tired. ~v~ On the second day I furnished my new home, using my magic I formed chairs, a table, a desk, bed and even a book shelf¡ though that was more for d¨¦cor seeing as I don¡¯t have paper. Oddly enough I couldn¡¯t use Earth Magic on the obsidian walls¡ maybe I need a higher affinity? Oh well¡ I guess windows will have to wait. It¡¯s important to note that this all took me a long time. Forming things with magic consumes MP, after about fifteen minutes my MP went dry and a slight sense of loss could be felt, like phantom limb syndrome where you know it should be there but its gone. Honestly it¡¯s a crappy feeling. Creating one chair took a long time, about half an hour. Imagine making a table and bed¡ uhg. Nine hours later I exited the cave and collected some more crabmeat and shells. I love the meat but I know I¡¯ll get sick of it soon. Hope I can find some diversity soon. I¡¯m NOT eating a Meterpede or a Quattro Bat, who knows where they¡¯ve been! Okay I would if I was desperate but I¡¯m not there yet. After that long day of building (more like growing) and resting to recuperate my magic power I was completely beat and fell asleep on my new leaf covered bed, which wasn¡¯t perfect but also wasn¡¯t the floor. ~v~ On the third day I was rather refreshed, my Mind stat had risen by two yesterday and my maximum MP was a little higher. This made me rather energetic even though it took hours for any progress to show. I decided to devote the day to a very important thing. Equipment! Yeah, I was tired of always being naked and weaponless, even with my claws in Iron Scales activation I still preferred a longer reach. So the first thing I made was one of the simplest, but most deadly inventions of my old world¡ a Spear. Two meters long and freshly grown from a nearby tree, I shaped it as perfectly as I could. The finished product was less than perfect. The long pole bent too much and was not nearly as accurate as I imagined it should be. The spike at the end would blunt the moment it hit something hard. In other words¡ FAILURE! After moping around for a while and mulling it over in my mind I came up with a solution. Basically my Spear failed because this wood is too flexible, making it two meters was especially problematic due to this fact. So instead I shortened the next one to a meter and a half long. This time I took it slow, allowing the wood to mature as it grew and condensed it. The whole thing took me quite a while but the end result was a three finger thick meter and a half pole that was tough yet slightly flexible when pressured. I used Earth Magic to form a spear tip and attached it to the pole by shrinking the opening under the blade and tightly squeezing it onto the wood. I made two of these; one was only an arm length though, more akin to a javelin. I needed a backup in case my first one failed to make the cut¡ hehe get it? After these I attempted to make a bow, however I was stumped on how to make string¡ I think they used intestines for bows in the old days of earth¡ but I¡¯ve yet find a creature with intestines that would serve this purpose¡ so I regrettably had to put that on hold. I made a nicely formed stone dagger using Earth Magic and wrapped the hilt in wood. Last but not least I needed clothing¡ or at least armour of some sort. This one stumped me for a while since although I had plenty of crab shells they were not really suited for what I needed. And I had no leather or fabric of any sort. When I was about to make stone armour I remembered something, a bit of trivia from my old world. Samurai used to wear wooden armour! Just knowing it¡¯s been done before made me really want to try my hand at it. They would usually make the armour out of wooden plates or scales. I didn¡¯t have fabrics so I couldn¡¯t make it as comfortable or protective, but it would still help a lot. Utilizing my magic I went to work forming scale shaped planks about two index fingers side by side long and wide. I would then create thin roots and branches to tie them all together. The result after a few hours was a vest made of connected wooden plate scales. I then made a skir- I mean Kilt using the same method, the Kilt was longer in the center of the legs on both sides to protect my sensitive parts. I made a clasp out of thin branches, which I melded together. I also used some of the smaller crab shells to make shoulder guards connected by braided thin branches that created a belt. When I wore it, no Defense boost was activated, like in a game, yet I knew I was more protected than without it. This world really is quite real¡ there may be a status screen and notifications but a stab to the heart is fatal just like anywhere else. I didn¡¯t have to worry about splinters either; I made the wood smooth and durable. By the end of the day I had armour and two weapons. My spear was simplistic sure but despite what sword buffs might think, staffs and spears are extremely versatile weapons capable of killing or subduing enemies without killing. Swords might be more deadly overall, but a skilled spear wielder can dominate a fight with reach and complex maneuvers. The next day¡ I would practice and plan for my fight against a Raptor, there are no Level Systems in place here, so killing something is all about planning ahead, utilizing strategy, or just being really freakishly strong. I practiced into the night, under the moons and stars. My focus was clear on my goal¡ stronger¡ I have to be stronger. I slept after tiring myself out. I dreamt of adventure and danger¡ my excitement and anxiety boiling in my veins. ~W~ [table=#004C00]Name:AdamTitles:Progenitor, Reckless OneAge:10Race:SecropsianSex:MaleMagic Power (MP): 670/670Strength:36/100%Agility:68/100%Perception:60/100%Endurance:75/100%Dexterity:41/100%Mind:67/100%Skills/AbilitiesTemperature Adaptation (Active/Passive) Iron Scales (Active) Infrared Sight (Active/Passive) Critical Bite (Active) Outdoor Survival (Passive) Cooking (Passive) Telepathy (Psychic/Active)Magic Affinities: Nature, Lesser Earth, Lesser WaterMagic Abilities: Growth Acceleration (Nature) Guided Growth (Nature) Earth Alteration (Earth) Water Manipulation (Water)[/table] Next chapter we find out which way he chooses to go first! World Genesis Volume 1 Chapter 10 World Genesis Volume 1 Chapter 10 This one took a while, I have been writing it in segments for a while do to work and life events not giving me the time nor the drive to write it in full like I normally would. The rest is coming... but it may take a while. I haven''t stopped... I don''t think I will stop, I do rather like this story. [th_059_.gif] That being said this is the first time i''ve written something so... slowly... so let me know if there are any mistakes made. there were literally days in between writing some parts. Enjoy. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I worked hard for the next three days and nights. I felt bad for prolonging my journey to find Eve but I also knew that I had to plan seriously if I wanted to succeed. First on my list of things to do was familiarizing myself with my new weapons and armour. My spear work was a bit clumsy at first; I worked on understanding my new reach and practiced special movements that helped me get used to the inherent traits of my new weapon. Twisting the spear in a clockwise and counter clockwise manner repeatedly for hours helped me get accustomed to the weight and feel as well. My armour was¡ well let¡¯s just say it¡¯s flexible¡ that really is the best quality to it. I sincerely doubt that it will provide ample protection against a hungry Hedge Raptor. However it is easy to move in¡ and my junk isn¡¯t flapping in the wind as much so that¡¯s a plus. I spent the whole first day and half the night getting used to complicated maneuvers and even created dummies out of saplings for greater visualization and conceptualization. I say that because one of the small trees looked deceptively similar to the shape of a Hedge Raptor. ¡°Kuhuhu¡ prepare your self my most hated foe!¡± I definitely was not just playing with my new weapons because I thought it would be fun! This was practice! Essential I tell you! ¡Anyway, I became confident in my understanding of the spear. At least I know I won¡¯t stab myself in the foot¡ that would be awkward. I decided it was necessary for me to practice daily, so I would get up early and practice for two hours every day and every night before sleep I would do it again. The spear is not a staff, I can use it as such but it¡¯s main power lies in a concentrated attack with a powerful thrust! So I practiced this motion repeatedly. I also did my spatial awareness training in order to use it as a staff if necessary. A staff can trip an opponent and also break limbs¡ but its main power lay in being unpredictable and detrimental to your opponents¡¯ footwork. This may not be as effective against large Raptors but I doubt all the creatures on this world are like them. My constant practicing bore fruit when I got a new Notice Message. [Congratulations! When worn, it will become sturdier and harder to damage.] After a long time of constant training I learned these four masteries. I wasn¡¯t even going to use my dagger but after I got the first two I became greedy. What can I say? I like getting new skills and abilities even if they are rarely used. Better to have them and not need them than need them and not have them. There was something unrelated to training that was bothering me however. That was my Status Window¡ It only showed a modicum of information on skills and abilities. Stats were percentile based and did not have information on them to make my growth easier. And magic was an enigma wrapped inside a mystery, even with Arumarra¡¯s teachings there was still so much I didn¡¯t know. After some thought I decided to make a logbook, or Journal that allowed me to collect my thoughts and possibly even look back on them and make critical connections that could aid me in my development. My only problem was I had no paper. I used Earth Magic and tried to make a stone tablet but it didn¡¯t really suit my needs. For starters I was going to have a lot of these things and they were heavy and took up too much space. So I attempted to make paper out of a tree, but of course I didn¡¯t know the method, so it ended in failure as well. Stumped I sat on a stump that served as a chair in my cave. I already created charcoal and encased it in thin wood casing to protect it so the pencil was done. I started to absentmindedly play with the wood of the stump and create patterns and designs when it hit me. It wasn¡¯t the most elegant solution but it would do for now. I used my Nature Magic and produced inch thick paper shaped wooden tablets! They were smooth due to my condensing the grains of the wood during its creation. And durable. The light colour was perfect for the pencil to write on. Thus my daily log was created! Every time I learned something new I wrote it down and stored it on the bookshelf I had thought I would never use. I marked the edge to indicate the day I wrote it and its contents. I started with all the information I had gathered on magic and then I moved to Arumarra¡¯s descriptions of the world and the creatures living on it. I dedicated a whole shelf for the bestiary and plant life logs. When the pencil dulled I used my dagger to sharpen it and continued working. I made each plank dedicated to it¡¯s own subject, I drew a small picture of the animal or plant I was taking note of then their identification and habits. On the back I put things like weaknesses and strengths, but I still needed time to observe some of them. For example the Quattro Bat eats insects and ¡®Unknown¡¯, until I find that Unknown I simply state that more information is needed. It took some time but I was able to summarize some things to shorten the workload. I made a few wood tablets and packed them in the wicker backpack I was going to use for my journey. I honestly don¡¯t know where to even begin looking for things like thread and leather is more likely to eat me before I can get my hands on it. So, I use the only crafting material I can to make a wide variety of tools. Honestly, Nature magic is probably the best thing that I could have obtained. It¡¯s a bit too convenient, I wonder if it really was ¡®randomly¡¯ given to me¡ it really is suspicious. On the third day I mostly trained with my spear and javelin, the javelin seemed to be rather weak and broke often when thrown. I eventually got a Sub-Skill of Spear Mastery called Javelin Throwing. But it only raised my dexterity and made me more comfortable when using it. Weapon and Armour Masteries are like moments of inspiration, when you realize that they have become a part of how you move and become second nature to you. Like a switch in your mind is flicked and suddenly the equipment you are using become something natural in your eyes. Like looking down at your hand and knowing it is a part of the body. Honestly it¡¯s a complicated yet simple feeling. I even recognized that it was the same for magic; I instinctively knew exactly what my magic was used for even though I didn¡¯t quite understand it mentally yet. Thus it was easy for me to learn its uses. It¡¯s kind of how my Temperature Adaptation, Iron Scales and Infrared Sight are just natural abilities that work because they are a part of me, hard concept to grasp right? Even with a ¡®feeling¡¯ for the skills however¡ I knew next to nothing about the true depths to said skills¡ just how much do I not know? How can I learn more? I suppose I should feel blessed for knowing what I do. It could have been a lot worse. Anyway, moving on¡ I packed a lot of supplies and necessities for my journey and came up with some pretty good strategies for killing a Hedge Raptor. In the end I went with plans I dubbed Plan: A, and Plan: B! Plan: C was just running away so it¡¯s not really a plan per say. I knew where the targets lived so it was easier to establish a plan. They nested in an Oasis not too far from my home. They often raid other Oases for food, chasing the herbivores from their homes and hunting them down. Basically, they are the jerks of the animal kingdom¡ kind of like hyenas without the mocking laughter. I did a few other things to prepare myself but they were more like aces up my sleeves (if I had sleeves). So I wont go into them in detail just yet. I had trained¡ I had become stronger and I was prepared. The hunter would soon become the hunted! ~v~ I set out, a small wicker pack slung over my back like a one-strap backpack used on hiking trips. My armour was donned and my weapons prepared. Everything I could need for my fated encounter was ready and waiting. And yet I stood there eyeing the place where the hated enemy called home for a good hour. Was I afraid? The answer to that was a simple yes. I knew I had to fight something strong and win, but my nerves got the best of me. Honestly I was never much for fighting even in my old life. I preferred to sort things out by thinking about them. The fact remained however that there might be greater enemies out there than the Raptors drove me. Arumarra was a perfect example of an unbeatable foe¡ and thank whatever gods are paying attention for the mercy of her being a kind soul. Or I would be dead¡ no other way of it I¡¯m afraid. So what should I do? The only logical thing to do it get stronger so I can defend myself, find Eve and defend her too if necessary! I¡¯m a Man damn it! I need to act like one¡ I need to be strong! After psyching myself up with those thoughts I made my way down the hill and to the Oasis I had dubbed Raptor Territory. I found a good location from my vantage on my hilltop home, a craggy area filled with what looked like the remains of a violent earthquake. There were little bushes that seemed to be unsuccessful Kiwood trees. All around the earth is dry and hard, so I can only imagine how tough these trees have to be to grow even that much. Despite their small size they will play a big role in my plan. I use the crags as cover and get a good view of the Oasis. It¡¯s rather full of life compared to the others; I can only assume that this is largely due to the fact that its occupants don¡¯t eat plants. The weeds I saw the other day litter the earth like tall grass and large trees offer enough shade to even darken the inside. Honestly its kind of intimidating me¡ but to a Triodon it might look like a nice meal and spell disaster. I know from experience that the predators within are on watch, but there are not many of them, they cannot all watch one area. If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. It¡¯s a gamble, but it¡¯s the best plan I could come up with under my circumstances. I set up the area as best I can for the inevitable confrontation. Setting traps and making the terrain favor me. Some might say I¡¯m a coward¡ that I should go in and face them head on with spear in hand and a war cry on my lips. Some would be idiots like that but not me. I put a lot of thought into this because I know how dangerous those bastards are. I saw what their claws could do, how their teeth could rip through flesh like paper. A good strategy can win where strength is lacking. ~v~ The crags and dead lands were silent, only the wind could be heard. Silent sentinels stalked the oasis they called home, the only source of life for several miles. The only indications of their presence were the eyes that flashed in the dark here and there. Suddenly a rustling of leaves broke the eerie silence¡ one of the bushes out to the east of the Oasis was shaking back and forth. One might even think that maybe a small animal was digging at its roots. Located behind a jagged rock protruding from the earth like a tooth. It made enough noise that soon enough a head poked out from the Oasis only to disappear shortly after. There was silence with nothing but the bush shaking to break it for a good ten minutes before finally a predator emerged. A Raptor stalked quietly on the caked earth¡ it¡¯s steps not even heard by its own ears. It stayed low; ready to pounce on the slightest movement. Its brethren were inside, but it did not alert them. It was hungry and it didn¡¯t want to share. Slowly it approached, low to the ground, it¡¯s eyes never blinking nor straying from the movement. As it came to the stone it slowly and carefully began to peak on the other side. However¡ The moment its head peered around the rock, the bush stopped and nothing was there. Confused, the Raptor circled the rock, sniffing the air and scraping at the dirt, but to no avail. Still hungry and now annoyed the Hedge Raptor began to turn back when¡ ¡®Swish, swish, swish.¡¯ Further down another plant, this time a small thin tree began to move similarly to the one before. Of course the Raptor was confused, never had it met such a quick-footed meal. But nonetheless it pursued! Faster than before and perhaps a bit more anxious for the kill this time, the Raptor went to the new source of the sound. When it came to the craggy stone however, once again the tree stopped and another further away began to shake. Now infuriated by the meat, the Raptor wasted no time and sprinted to the next outcropping of stones and bushes. It was determined to catch this rodent or whatever it was! No meal made a mockery of the best hunter in the dead-lands! It pounced around the corner and was once again met with nothing but plant life and rocks. It stared at the location for a few minutes before finally deciding to give up for sure this time. It never had the chance. As it was about to move away it noticed it could no longer lift its legs, looking down in bewilderment, it found that it was trapped in rapidly growing roots that did not grow down, but up and around it! The moment it was about to leave the roots tightened and stopped it from moving. It was stuck! At this moment a figure presented itself, not very tall but muscular and lean the odd creature brandished a sharp stick and seemed to be wrapped in plants too. Or so it seemed to the Raptor. ~v~ My plan worked perfectly! I had assumed that the first few times I would draw more than one and have to abandon my catch. Luck was with me however, and only one took the bait. I slowly led it further and further away from its home, and was surprised when it sprinted for the last one. I wanted to lead it right to that spot however so it worked out perfectly. The silly creature even stood still long enough for the roots I formed from some seeds I took with me to tangle around its legs and trap it. The surprise on its face when it saw me was priceless; I couldn¡¯t have imagined that a predator could make such a face. Hmm? Speaking of its face, this thing looks familiar¡ no way. To my surprise I looked down to one of its hind legs to see a small bite mark. Scaly hide was slowly growing back but it was still rather noticeable. Also I could swear it had a bump on it¡¯s head, could just be my imagination though. ¡°kuhuhu¡ we meet again my most hated foe.¡± This was undoubtedly the same Hedge Raptor from before, the one that nearly killed me! We have to stop meeting like this. It seemed to not recognize me, probably due to my new armour. Well no matter, my face will be burned into its memory as it tumbles down into hell! The surprise ended as I wound back, readying myself to throw the javelin. If I could weaken it with this, then the fight would be much easier, if I killed it¡ well then I would be just thrilled! With all my strength and just a bit of finesse, I let loose my weapon! It flew in a stable ark and its speed was something few people could dodge. It came down aimed at the haunch of the raptor but before it could strike. ¡®CRUNCH¡¯ ¡°Eh?¡± With a lightning fast reaction the Hedge Raptor twisted its head to the side and caught the Javelin with it¡¯s razor sharp teeth. Before I even had enough time to recover from my failure. It looked at me, square in the eyes as though it were saying. ¡°Bitch, please!¡± Then broke the Javelin in half¡ I could tell it was not pleased. I collected myself and retrieved my spear. It was time to stop playing around, the raptor started to furiously pull at the restraints only to find the ground was muddy and slippery. With a thought I activated Iron Scales on my forearms and charged the beast! We were only about ten meters away from each other so I reached it rather quickly. With a powerful thrust using my whole body behind it I aimed right for the raptors throat! It was getting up still after slipping in the mud so I had a perfect opportunity! But just before my spear reached my target, once again I was met with teeth! Too fast for me to see the Raptor reacted and caught my arm in its jaws. However this was not before I scored a hit! Not the one I was hoping for but the spear hit home at its flank! The razor sharp fang like teeth came down like a vice, crushing my scales and cracking quite a few. The real damage came from the pressure however, I could feel my arm wanting to rip and break apart just from the immense pressure. I wanted to celebrate but now wasn¡¯t the time¡ we were at a stalemate, the Raptor had me and I stabbed the Raptor. It wasn¡¯t a fatal wound¡ in fact I was surprised by how much resistance the scaly hide put up against my strike. It was as if I used a dull blade. If it weren¡¯t for my momentum I doubt I would have pierced it at all. Nevertheless, the head of my spear was half way imbedded in its hide and it was hard for the creature to move. Although it felt the pain from my attack it was smart enough not to thrash about and loosen its grip on my arm. If it slackened just a bit I would retract and attack again¡ just how intelligent are these things? Unfortunately for it however, the Raptor seemed to forget one crucial thing, I have two hands! Without a moment to spare I reached for my dagger, all the while forcing myself to put up with the pain in my other arm. Quickly and surprisingly accurately the dagger came and embedded itself deep into the Raptors left eye. It couldn¡¯t hold its composure this time as it yelped with its strange cry. I immediately put some distance between us but it was short lived. ¡°It¡¯s not happy.¡± I mumbled to myself, seeing the Raptor was in a frenzy to the point where the tangled roots that even till this very moment continued to grow, thanks in no small part to the magic power I had been storing in the seeds I¡¯d planted them from. Ripped and tore like cheap string as the heated creature whipped around and tore and them with its fang like teeth. ¡°Shit!¡± I noticed that I was just standing there staring at it in its rage, a bad call seeing as I still needed to kill this thing. Yet my right arm was not responding well, I couldn¡¯t even raise it for another strike. Switching hands I charged again but the over grown lizard was ready this time. With one last movement it swiped its tail around, finally free of its restraints and also attacking me with its tail. But I saw this coming, unlike the first time I fought this thing I knew full well how powerful that tail strike would be. So I quickly dived down to the ground and the tail harmlessly passed above me. Then not missing my chance as it recovered I went to one knee and forcefully brought my spear up and under it for what I hoped would be a heart strike. And as the spear hit I was pleasantly surprised by how easily it went in compared to before. There were no scales on its underbelly, just tough hide. But even though it was tough, it wasn¡¯t tough enough! Or so I thought. Like lightning the Raptor¡¯s teeth came down again, but this time it focused on my spear. Unfortunately my spear lost¡ With a cracking noise all I held in my hands now was a slightly long stick with pointed wood on the end. I threw it aside and drew my dagger. The thing was heavily injured now, and only my arm was injured¡ there was still a chance. We eyed each other for a moment; it seemed to be quite wary of me now¡ perhaps my last attack jolted it back from its enraged state. It then took a step back, I could see that my last attack, while damaging, was not fatal, it barely even bled in fact. Suddenly it opened its jaw and¡ A loud, rather annoying screech and yelp followed several times. I was confused for a moment but then I realized¡ it was calling for help. As it did so it slowly retreated a few steps. ¡°Oh¡ that can¡¯t be good¡¡± Panicking I tried to think of what to do. I was injured and soon to be cornered¡ I may not have killed the Raptor but I brought it to a point where it no longer wished to fight me one to one. ¡°I think I¡¯ve run out of options¡¡± Mortified as I was for having to do this, I turned and fled. I could easily kill that one perhaps¡ but there were more than I could handle not too far away. In fact I should have counted myself lucky that nothing came sooner. We weren¡¯t exactly subtle once the fight broke out. It felt like the fight was excruciatingly long, but it was barely ten minutes. The sun was still high in the sky and I could easily find my way home without being followed. I checked behind me and the injured one was not there anymore, but I could hear several yelps further away. And I knew I just barely got out of there in time. I ran, despite the pain in my arm, which was now limp and un-scaled at my side looking purple and red all over. I ran despite my fatigue¡ but I didn¡¯t run from the injured foe, I ran from the companions it had close by. I realized something rather important this day¡ It was something I knew already, but it finally sank in as an ironclad rule to survival. It finally had true, terrible meaning. I was one; against the world¡ no one would come when I call. World Genesis: Volume 1 Chapter 11 World Genesis Volume 1 Chapter 11 ¡°Hruum¡± She lay within her nest, a deep cavity in the earth. It was not formed naturally but rather shaped by her flames and claws. Here and there were cracks in the otherwise smooth crystalline walls that let out water falling majestically into pools and waterways she created intentionally. Beneath the surface of the water were large sparkling ovals that could only be eggs. Close by there were other pools but unlike the ones filled with water these were filled with hot magma and of course eggs of various sizes and their smooth, scale patterned multi coloured shells seemed to drink in the light from the molten magma. They were children that would bleed fire and soar high in the sky. Hundreds of eggs and dozens of different species slept within them. Tiny lives that would one day master the heavens and the earth¡ but now were so fragile. Even Adam, with his little body could easily smash them and extinguish their light forever. When She had sensed him the first time, she was truly afraid for her young. The first clutch had been upsetting, her heart still screamed with grief over the little ones that would never be born. Hatred so intense burned within her soul for the blue skinned demons that killed them and forced her to flee her nest that she might protect those still within her. At the time she met him, it was true she was conflicted whether or not to simply smash him and burn him to ashes on the spot. However¡ something about him¡ reminded her of the little ones perhaps? He was not a Dragon by any means, yet a look of a lost soul was on his face, like a newborn looking for its place in the world. Tinged with a fair amount of terror but that was to be expected in her presence. Were she younger and not as filled with grief, perhaps she never would have bothered connecting with his mind. Yet If she had not she would not have learned to speak. She would not have learned of other worlds and the complexity of such a small life. Arumarra lay among her young, thinking of the mind that she had simply meant to touch, but had instead been sucked into completely. She had not meant to read his past memories; her intent was solely to learn how to communicate with him. Yet it was impossible to ignore them. This was not normal¡ usually in order to read a person so thoroughly one must unlock said memories and indeed his more current memories were guarded. The past ones were not however. In order to guard ones memories they must have an emotional attachment to those memories. Every memory no matter how insignificant has a lock set on it, the combination could be as simple as the feeling of joy or sadness, but more complex memories have many different emotions connected to them. For some reason Adam was without these emotional ties¡ he didn¡¯t lose them intentionally, She was sure no being alive could simply discard their emotional attachments so. It was more like he simply lost them. She surmised that during the rebirth of his soul on this plain, they had faded away but his memories had not. They had protected his memories but were exhausted in the process. Now only feint echoes of the feelings remained. Enough to know they were there but not enough to feel them anymore and she knew Adam had not yet noticed this change. She absorbed his knowledge without even wanting to, and by the time she had finally learned to speak she had also gained a full two years worth of memories copied from his mind. These memories were tied to concepts and ideas she had never thought of before, art, culture, mathematics, science and more. They allowed her to instantly understand things she had dwelled on for years. At first it was confusing, she needed time to absorb the ideas and concepts but through meditation she now comprehended so much more. It was frightening how much a small creature could attain through sheer intellect alone. Her size and power seemed diminutive by comparison. Though they were not intentionally copied she still found them intriguing, it was priceless knowledge in this fledgling world that would only aid her in the future. However, she felt guilt for taking what belonged to him without permission, language was one thing but his memories should have been his and his alone. Since she had taken more than she meant to, she had left something behind as payment. It would manifest as minor telepathy for now, but its true nature was a lock. She formed a psychic bubble around his memories and gave him the ability to protect it from invaders. She felt it would complicate things if she revealed to him just how unprotected he was during their¡ interaction. And she knew he did not feel her pry into his past because there was nothing preventing her from doing so.Support the creativity of authors by visiting the original site for this novel and more. In the end she decided to not mention it to him, nothing short of a World Dragon would be able to break that lock on his memories. And even if others tried, he would now know of their intrusion. A terrifying expression that could only be called a draconic grin revealed itself. ¡°Hruun, perhaps the other gift will awaken in him too, only time will tell.¡± He¡¯s unpredictable, there¡¯s no telling if he has the constitution for it¡ one thing is certain however; through the process of reincarnation Adam had become a little¡ ~v~ ¡°Crazy! I¡¯m completely nuts, what the hell was wrong with me!? Thinking I could separate the Raptors so easily then kill one without them noticing? Damn shit fuck, my arm!¡± In my haste to run away from the Hedge Raptors I didn¡¯t forget the supplies I had dropped not far from the fight. Inside was a wooden cup with a flat carved lid that held a purple paste I had created using Yellow Algae and Suerte Dolorosa mushrooms mixed with a bit of spring water. What I got was a paste that I could put on an open wound. It killed the pain and healed it rather quickly leaving a little scar behind. It didn¡¯t heal as quickly as ingesting the mushrooms directly but it did stop me from getting knocked out. The algae killed pain and the drowsiness effect too. So by the time I got back to my hill my arm was almost healed, the one thing I didn¡¯t like about the concoction was the smell, it was incredibly potent for some reason and smelled like horseradish. Odd seeing as the only ingredient that smelled was the algae, for this reason I was reluctant to ingest it though. The information window only said it would heal open wounds of minor to intermediate intensity. It never said I had to drink it, and thankfully I didn¡¯t have to try it. I thought about climbing up my hill but instead decided to just sit down near the entrance to Arumarras area. I caught my breath and thought about where to go from here. I technically won that fight right? I wouldn¡¯t want to go through that again though and I did make the battleground work in my favour¡ a real fight would not be like that at all I¡¯d wager. I can¡¯t just sit here though¡ there is someone from my race out there, possibly another reincarnated person too. I need to move. I can¡¯t just make a beacon and wait; Arumarra would probably not appreciate me drawing attention to her nest either. Standing back up I started to walk up my hill, when I finally reached the top I gazed north. North is my best chance¡ According to Arumarra there are more plants and animals in the north. If she was looking for me then most likely she would start there. I just hoped I hadn¡¯t wasted too much time here and missed her. ¡°I¡¯ll focus on survival and not seek out fights, if I can run I will run. If I absolutely need to fight, I focus on distraction then running away. I don¡¯t have time for distractions, I need to find her.¡± The sun was setting¡ I hadn¡¯t realized how long a day it had been until that moment. It really did look beautiful¡ this world. ¡°This world¡¡± Something came to me in that moment¡ this world didn¡¯t have a name? I remembered in the beginning when I first awoke a message had said something to that effect. Welcome to the newly created world of (Unknown)¡ that was what it said. Kind of sad, that such a beautiful, if a little dangerous place like this has no name. It even gave me a name, though I could have just gone by my old name. Still¡ Looking at the world spread out in front of me, I got the sense that this is all just the beginning¡ like there is some goal or objective to reach one day. Like the whole world is pushing me to move forward, or maybe I¡¯m just drawn to the unknown? I know I have a goal, to find Eve¡ not because she is my destined partner or because our species depends on it but because she¡¯s alone¡ and its dangerous to be alone. I know that better than anyone. ¡°Telos, I¡¯ll call this world Telos.¡± With a wry smile I took a small step back, I would rest then leave at first light. Or it would have been a step back but it turned into a stumble. The ground was shaking for some reason. Confused, a worried voice echoed in my mind. ¡°What is happening up there?¡± Arumarra seemed genuinely worried; perhaps her eggs were at risk? Her telepathy is something else to reach me all the way up my Hill and still sound so clear. ¡°I don¡¯t know either, it¡¯s an earthquake maybe?¡± [World has been named¡ Finalizing¡ Name accepted] [Final World Update in progress] [Updating please stand by] In that moment creatures in the world saw those words floating in front of them in their own language or a form they could understand. A light formed within them, a feeling of understanding. My status screen came up and flickered a few times, then changed dramatically, condensing into a bead of light then molding into a shape. An amulet floated in front of me after it was done. Shining with three different gems and an opal in the center. Suddenly the amulet opened up revealing the opal underneath was much larger, and words formed from the swirling colours. Everything was still there¡ but different, the amulet resonated with me, imparting understanding. It was me¡ the amulet was in a way my soul¡ or something very similar. It also dawned on me finally¡ something I had always suspected but never truly believed until this very moment.
