BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! "SHUT UP why is this thing so annoying, gooodddd" The annoying blaring sound of the alarm woke me up, the sleeping beauty. Every morning I had to wake up to this sound and every time it got on my last nerves. If I could destroy my phone alarm I would of did it in the blink of an eye, but due to my current circumstances of being a college student without a job I wasn''t able to.
I reluctantly got off my comfortable blow up bed, looked around my room and all I saw were my clothes on suitcases, in a basket, on the floor and other dribble laying around. I couldn''t help but think that I was a very messy person. I looked up and saw the ceiling fan and a pure white ceiling, I looked over to the walls and it was just as plain as the ceiling. Having been in the apartment for about two months there should have been decoration on the walls but there wasn''t any_if you didn''t include the stickers I had from the shirts I brought. The room screamed of creativity if blandness was creative. I went from crawling off my bed to maneuvering around my clustered room. "Man, I really have to clean this place" I said while looking at all the clutter. After getting out my small room I started to get ready for school. I did my usual routine which consisted of taking a shower, brushing my teeth and all the other miscellaneous activities. I felt that I could do this monotonous activity with my eyes close. That just shows how uninteresting my life really was. As I was getting ready I saw myself in the mirror and couldn''t help thinking that I needed a haircut. I had the typical high-top fade the only problem was that it''s been months since I''ve had a haircut and my hair was starting to grow back. Since I was on a tight budget I just shrugged it off and finish putting my clothes on. When I was done with everything I went to the kitchen to get a quick bite, then I remembered I''m broke and I haven''t gone to the store in a while. That put a damper on my mood, but it wasn''t too bad because it wasn''t like I had breakfast everyday of the week and sadly I was starting to get use to it.. Siggghhhh. I couldn''t eat so the best thing to do at this moment was to forget about my brokenness and head for school. While getting out of the apartment I ran into my neighbor, and future girlfriend if I had the guts to ask her out, April. "Hey Jason, did you have anything to eat or are you going to class hungry again?" "Hey April, I didn''t go to the store yet so right now I''m going to class hungry." "I have some apples in the fridge you can get some if you want." "No thanks I''m not in the mood for any apples right now, but thanks for the offer." "Stop playing around and get the apple you know it''s bad to go most of the day without eating" said April in a stern voice. I couldn''t help thinking that she sounded like my girlfriend or mother but mostly girlfriend when she said this. "Alright alright I''ll get one ill pay you back when I buy some groceries." "No need to save your money for later and if you have nothing to eat later come by my place and I''ll have something prepared." She really sounded like she was my girlfriend and I couldn''t be any happier. "Thanks April I''ll be sure to come pop by." I started to walk away from her and when I looked back she had a smile on her face. I stopped and waved goodbye to her. By doing so I couldn''t help remembering back to when I first laid my eyes on her, she had the most beautiful light brown eyes, curly jet-black hair, a cute nose, rosy lips and to top it off she had a baby face. I know I shouldn''t believe in love at first sight, but I couldn''t help feeling that she was the girl I was meant to be with. Then again, I do fall for a lot of girls and nothing ever comes from it. The first time I talked to her I could barely get a sentence out. This might be due to liking her or to my inability to speak to other people. When she saw this, she couldn''t help but laugh. I should have been regretting this but when I saw her smile it took away my soul figuratively of course. Waking up from my sweet daydream, I started to take a step but midway through my stride I couldn''t move. It felt like I was having an episode of sleep paralysis. Though I wasn''t just waking up from a dream, it still felt this way since I was awake and had clear thoughts but every command that I gave, my body wasn''t responding. This state brought a tinge of fear in me. To my elation, this state only lasted for three seconds, but on the other hand I didn''t know that this state was the beginning of hell on earth. Getting out of my paralyzed state all I heard was BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM. I fell to the ground as fast as I could to protect my vitals just in case something out of my control was happening. My motto was better to be safe then to be sorry. In retrospect, other people would''ve thought of this as cowardice move, but I didn''t care because my life was more important than some derision from people I didn''t know or care about. When I looked up there was no smoke or anything happening that was out of the ordinary. I couldn''t be anymore wrong because a second later I started to hear mournful screams. If someone passed by me, they would''ve seen me trembling. I was so scared that I didn''t know what to do.This novel is published on a different platform. Support the original author by finding the official source. Then I remembered that April could be in danger. I stored up my confidence and was about to get off the floor until I saw a bizarre sight. There was something green holding up a wooden club and to my demise the club was heading for me. Since I was on the ground and the hallway was long enough I rolled to my right just in the nick of time. The club hit the floor with so much force that the building was visibly rattled. When I saw that the club landed three inches from my face I was so scared I almost sharted1 on myself. I couldn''t help thinking that if I was a couple of seconds slower It would have been my face that was smashed in. I knew that at this moment if I didn''t get off the floor I would die. When The green entity picked up the club and was ready to smash my brains in I started to roll faster then what I thought was possible. I was so thankful that I use to get in trouble during football practice since they always made me roll with my equipment on. Compared to that with the help of fear I was safe only for the second. When I was far enough from the green thing I hurried to get on my feet and have a closer look to what I was dealing with. What I saw was straight out of a video game. What I saw was a small green person with pointed ears, an ugly face that only a mother could love. The green entity had nothing on but a small lion cloth covering its genitalia. Other than the small lion cloth the green person had wooden club it tried to kill me with in its hand which was oversized for its body. From an aesthetic point of view the green person was not pleasing to the eye. When I saw that the green being had a status screen above its head I was confused until I read that what it said. The status screen gave me its name and what it appeared to be its level and the amount of health points it had. Goblin Lvl: 5 HP: 50 For a moment there I believed that I was having a hallucination since goblins were mythical creatures found in fairytales and video games. That just couldn''t be right. It seemed impossible, but my eyes weren''t betraying me what I saw was as clear as night and day. The goblin didn''t give me anymore time to think. It lunged at me with the club in tow just to miss my body by a couple of inches. It started to readjust itself for another lunge, but it didn''t have the opportunity to. I tried to kick in its direction to give me a little more time to think. To my surprise my kick landed on its torso. -10 Hp My kick was strong enough to take away a fifth of its help points plus the goblin fell to the ground. My first action was to lounge for the club. When I tried pulling the club from the small goblins hand I couldn''t. The small little goblin was at least two times as strong as I am and worst it had a huge disadvantage from being on the floor. Since I couldn''t get the club from its hands I backed up as fast as I could. The goblin was surprisingly fast since it got up as soon as I backed up. I looked at the goblins ugly face and the goblin was noticeably angry. It gave out a small growl and lunged at me again. This time I was nicked just a bit on my arms. The small contact caused me so much pain that I started to sweat. I knew from that moment on I couldn''t let the club touch me at all or I might die. I started to think on our confrontation so far and the only time I could get a hit in was when it was close enough to me to get a kick in and just when it was about to prepare itself for another lounge. I looked behind me to see how much space I was working with. I saw that it should be enough for the goblin to get two to three more lounges in before I hit the back wall. I planned for the goblin to get to two lounges in, so I could get the ideal timing in for an attack. When I finished formulating my plan the goblin was already in mid stride to get a hit in. Once again, I was lucky enough to get away with only a small scratch. I knew that if I were to get distracted again I probably wouldn''t be as lucky. I started to concentrate on both of our positions. From the two attacks so far I was able to see that I had a one second window to kick the goblin. Knowing this I waited for the goblin to get another attack on me. This time when the goblin lounged at me I was ready. I jumped back just in time to dodge the club wielding goblin. I wanted to give the goblin a kick, but I knew that patience would get me through this incident. For the second time I took both of our positions in. The goblin had one more lounge to go before I hit the wall and cause my demise. I patiently waited for the goblin to lounge at me so that I could at least see a way out of this predicament. When the goblin attacked me for the umpteenth time I dodged. Knowing that I couldn''t doge anymore I waited for the goblin to get ready for its attack. When it was almost ready to lounge my window of opportunity arrived, so I kicked with all my strength. -15 HP My kick landed on the goblins face and it was hit hard enough for it to land on its back again. Since the goblin was on its back I had a couple of choices. One, try to get the club from the goblins hand again. Two, get behind the goblin and prepare to fight or three get behind the goblin and take the chance to run. I didn''t hesitate to pick choice two knowing that since there was a goblin here there might be other ones lurking in other places. I didn''t want to be empty handed if I chanced upon another monster. I knew that in games monsters usually drop the weapons that they use. I had to take the chance to see if the goblin would drop its club when it died. The goblin got up from the ground and spat out a broken tooth from its mouth. From this scene I knew that my kick was affective. To my surprise the goblin seemed to be in a small daze. I couldn''t let the opportunity slip by me, so I sent out another kick. The goblin woke up from its daze at that moment but didn''t have the opportunity to do anything before the kick connected with its torso. -10 HP I guess I wasn''t lucky enough to get a better kick in. This time when the goblin fell on the floor I didn''t wait for it to get up, instead I jumped on the floor. I didn''t try to get the club from the goblin hand, I started to punch the goblin with all the animosity that I had but up. -2 HP I don''t know what took over me, but I didn''t stop with one punch I started to pummel the goblins face in. I kept on saying "stupid you mad me do this, you mad me do this." I didn''t even notice that the goblin was dead after my umpteenth punch. I just kept going and going until I lost all the feelings in my arms. LVL UP! The level up status woke me up from my crazy act of pure violence. I looked down at my hands and saw the goblins warm red blood on my hands and I was able to see how raw my fist was. I couldn''t believe what I just did so I kept telling myself "it wasn''t my fault it was either me or it." I didn''t want to die so it had to be the goblin. This didn''t make me feel any better about myself it showed what I was capable of when pushed came to shove. I knew that I had some darkness inside of me, but I didn''t think I would be this violent when it erupted. Getting off the goblins corpse I turned around to see April staring right at me.
Chapter 2: Dont look While April was staring at me my mind went blank. I wanted to say something anything, but all my mouth did was move up and down without any sound coming out. The girl that I liked just seen me in my darkest light. What else could I do in this situation. The torturing silence lasted for a good five seconds before I gained control of my thoughts. I kept thinking "what should I say so that I don''t look like a psychopath in front of her."? "I-I-I... di-didn''t me-mean to go that far I ju-just lost c-control for a second there."? I could barely get out a coherent sentence out of my mouth. This showed that I was terrible when put in a difficult situation. While I was trying to find something else to say to clear my name I heard a ding sound ring in my head. I choose to ignore what I perceived to be a notification of sort. "Wow I''m shocked I didn''t think you had anything like that in you, it was like you were possessed or something. Is the anger out of your system or are you looking for more?"? "Y-you aren''t scared of what I did?"? "I can''t say that I am, since I would probably do the same thing as you in that situation. Though, I don''t think I would go as far as brutalizing the goblins face and why are you mumbling so much? You know we are friends so speak up."? "This was probably just a one time thing I won''t let my anger get the best of me. So, what part of my madness did you see?"? "I just saw the ending where you got that lucky kick. You should be more careful next time."? I thought to myself that April must have some screws loose to still be able to talk to me after what she saw and I couldn''t be any happier. I of course would never tell her that. April than started to walk up to me like she had all the confidence in the world. I don''t think I would be able to do the same in her situation. When she got close enough to me she asked, "what happened to your arm?"? I was confused about her question until I saw her eyes looking at my arm. I looked down to see that I was holding it. With all the adrenaline out of my system my body knew that I was hurt before me even noticing. I knew I was slightly hit but it didn''t seem bad at the time. "It''s not a big deal it''s just a small scratch"? I replied so that I didn''t look like a weakling. I couldn''t have her thinking that I couldn''t protect myself. No self-respecting man would ever want to see the girl they like see them in a vulnerable state. Then again these might be the thoughts of an insecure macho man. "Let me see it?" she asked while already reaching for my arm. It happened so fast that I was caught unprepared. When she touched my arm, it felt like a bolt of electricity was coursing through my body. That one touch made me wince and the action didn''t escape Aprils gaze. She smiled at me and told me to follow her. I started to follow her then I remembered why I didn''t escape the goblin when I had a chance. I told her to wait for a moment so that I could get my consolation prize. I bent down to pick up the wooden club and you wouldn''t believe how heavy it was. The goblin was clearly smaller than me but was swinging the club with one hand like it was nothing. I only had one good arm, but I definitely wasn''t going to leave the club behind. So, I put all the power I can muster into my right arm and pulled on the club. The club did me a great favor by letting me pull it, but it was still extremely heavy. April saw me struggling so she came and helped me out. Usually it would take twenty seconds to get to Aprils place but with the added weight of the club it took us a good minute to get near the vicinity of her door. When we got near her place I saw five goblin corpses on the floor. I turned to April and gave her a questioning look. "You weren''t the only one who ran into those goblins"? she answered. I was so shocked, it took all I had to take down one of those things and she took out five of them with time to spare. Dang she is one scary chick, she''d probably be the one protecting me. I also saw something else that was quite funny. All five of the goblins had wooden clubs and here I was dragging this heavy ass club. "You know you could have told me that there were some clubs by your place."? "You just looked so handsome when you were trying so hard to pick one up that I just couldn''t help it" said April with a teasing smile on her face. I tried to open my mouth to give her a reply, but nothing came out and I started to blush. When April saw my face she couldn''t help but laugh. As harmless as her laugh was it made me blush more than I ever wanted so I turned my face around and let the club fall to the ground. I forgot that she was holding it with me but luckily, she had surprisingly fast reflexes. If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it. The club fell to the ground with a bang and all we did was stare at it. The moment was so awkward that there was nothing to do but laugh. It''s funny how moments like these could make one forget that they were just in a life or death situation and were still far from being safe. After laughing I told her to help me bring all the clubs into her place just in case someone takes them from us. April agreed so for the next five minutes we dragged all six clubs into her house. I didn''t know how out of shape I was until we were done, I was sweating bullets while April was just fine. "Man, this girl was out of my league" I thought. When everything was done I laid on her couch while she went to get me an icepack. While April was applying the icepack on my arm she asked me "what do you think is going to happen to us from now on?"? I honestly didn''t know what our future held so I could only tell her "It doesn''t really matter as long as we can find a way to survive, we''d be okay."? I told her "usually in a ''what would happen to earth if humans went extinct'' video electricity would usually run out. I don''t know if it would happen a day from now, a week from now, or a month from now but it would be best for us to be prepared."? "I know but I think we should rest for a moment."? She answered while walking to the back window of her apartment. She looked outside and told me that we would probably have to wait for an hour or two before we could go get some provisions. I walked up to the window to see outside and what I saw was pure chaos. People were fighting for their lives, while the monsters were having a field day. There was a voice in my head telling me that I should go out in help as much people as I can, but I wasn''t stupid enough to follow such an idea. In a world where I couldn''t protect myself how would I be able to help others. I didn''t have a hero''s complex and I found hero''s to be overrated in everything they did. I tried to entertain the thought of going to help but I didn''t know if by trying to help I could cause my own death. From these thoughts I believed that it wasn''t worth it. I turned to look at April and saw that she had the saddest look on her face. It was a facial expression that I had never seen her with. I could see it in her eyes that she wanted to help but knew that she didn''t have the power to do so. Life couldn''t help but feel bleak at this moment. I couldn''t take the atmosphere anymore and went to sit on the couch. That was then I remembered I heard a notification sound in my head. I thought of all that was happening around us seemed like something that came straight out of a video game. I remembered that when I saw the goblin I saw a screen that informed me about its health and level. Maybe, there was a way for me to see my stats. I didn''t want to disturb April, so I yelled status in my head. Surprisingly that actioned worked and a screen popped up. Status window Name: Jason King Race: Human Age: 20 Gender: Male Lvl: 1 Titles: Madness Health: 83(100) Magic: 100(100) Stamina: 72(110) Strength: 13(10) Endurance: 11(10) Constitution: 10(10) Mana: 10(10) Dexterity: 11(10) Luck: 5(5) Skill(s): Identification Stat points: 5 By looking at the status window I was able to see that my stats were on the normal side, I shouldn''t be surprised much since I haven''t been exercising much. I clicked my different stats to see if they were different from those of the games I played. Strength The amount of power your fleshy body exerts. Could be improved with stat points, special items or certain repetitive actions. Endurance How long you will be able to last doing extraneous activity. Could be improved with stat points, special items or certain repetitive actions. Constitution How resilient your body is to physical/magical damage and how fast your body heals itself. Could be improved with stat points, special items or certain repetitive actions. Mana How much magic your body is able to hold, how fast your body regenerates magic and your spell damage. Could be improved with stat points, special items or certain repetitive actions. Dexterity How fast your body is able to move, your reaction time and your nimbleness. Could be improved with stat points, special items or certain repetitive actions. Luck How often monsters will drop certain items after death. Could be improved through special items or materials. Cannot be improved with stat points. Madness The person with this title has psychopathic tendencies, they suppress their emotions deep down until they explode and do something out their character. The people who earn this title good for you, you are a psychopath. When your emotion come to a point where you cant control them your madness will activate. When a certain amount of blood gets on you there will be 15% increase in strength and reaction speed. There is a 99% chance of losing control of your body. (depends on the amount of blood in the enemy''s body and your emotional level). Strength +1, dexterity +1 per level From what I''ve seen the stats weren''t too much different from RPG games and were sort of easy to understand. I looked closer at my stats and saw that I had one skill and one title. I was familiar with the identification skill which helped me understand an enemy''s level and health points, which also helped me see a weapons statistic. Usually in games titles are hard to stumble by and yet I already gained one. I won''t lie the title sounded very ominous, but I knew that losing control of my emotion gave me the title. The madness title sounded OP but the ninety-nine percent chance of losing control didn''t make me feel any better. I wasn''t sure if when the madness title activated, and I lose control would I start going against my allies, would I lose all rationality while fighting the enemy or anything else that could possibly happen. There were to many possibilities of things going wrong and because of that I would try not to let my emotions overwhelm me or let blood get anywhere close to me. When I was done checking everything sleepiness crept up on me, so I let all my wariness go and fell asleep. I didn''t worry about my life because I trusted April enough to not let anything happen to me. Chapter 3: Crappy craftsmanship I had one of the longest weirdest dreams I ever had in my life. In my dream the world suddenly turned for the worst, there were monsters going around slaughtering people. I heard some of the worlds ghastliest blood curling screams that was likely to give me nightmares for a long time coming. One good thing that happened was that I fought one of the monsters and lived to tell the tale. April even appeared in the dream, she fought five monsters to my one. Man, even in a dream she was an amazing female. The last part of my dream was with April taking care of my wound and me sleeping on her couch. As in life all good things must come to an end. I woke up from my sweat dream to a somewhat similar but foreign environment. I then remembered the environment was the same as Aprils place in my dream. I turned to what in my dream was a window to find April sitting by a window. That''s when I put two and two together and what I perceived to be a dream was actually reality. I chuckled to myself and thought that life was really strange at times one moment your living a normal boring life and the next your risking your fighting monsters. I got off the couch to go see what April was thinking about, when I got close enough to her she gave of a feeling of being alone in the world. It sucked to see her like this and it also hurt a bit to think that she believed she was alone when I was next to her. Even though she gave off this feeling I wanted her to know that I would always be there for her in her time of need. I wouldn''t be able to express all my feelings by telling her, so I decided to show her through my actions. While lost in my thoughts April turned around to see me and asked if my arm was feeling better. I answered her by saying it was doing fine. As we were talking I had a closer look at Aprils face to see that her eyes were puffy, and she had been crying. This showed me that no matter how tough a person fortitude is they will always have a time when they are vulnerable. I began to understand why she gave off the lonely feeling. The only thing I knew might help her grieving was to give her a shoulder she could lean on. I tried picking her up from her chair, but she started to fight me by pounding on my chest. I knew that she was just venting out her anger, her frustrations, and her resentment and I just happened to be her outlet. When she started to run out of steam she leaned on me and softly cried herself to sleep. I picked her up and walked her to the coach. I laid her on the coach as softly as I could then went to her room to get a pillow and some covers. When I came back to April I laid the covers on her and picked her head up to put the pillow under her. I looked at her while she slept and thought she was very beautiful. After looking at April I had nothing better to do and remembered that on the stats it said I could improve them through repetitive actions. I thought that the best thing to do in this moment was to do the basic workouts such as pushups, crunches, sit-ups, squats and any other auxiliary workout that came to mind. I haven''t been working out for a while so during the workout I had to take long breaks in between. An hour later I was extremely tired and had nothing else to do so I picked up my phone to see if there was any news on what was happening. I believed that people were fighting for their lives and had other things to worry about then post any news. As I thought there wasn''t anything new posted and just as I was about to come off the internet something was posted. The news contained all the information that I summarized from my experience so and one shocking piece of information. The information stated that no modern firearms worked on the monsters. This information made me feel like someone punched me in my guts. It ruined most of my future plans for scavenging for guns and ammunition. It also made me think about everything else that may possibly stop working. I got off my phone and looked around Aprils apartment to look for something to do while April rested. I remembered that we left six clubs outside the apartment. I quietly walked to the door, so that I didn''t disturb April. I put my ear against the door to hear if there was anyone or anything outside the door. When I didn''t hear anything, I opened the door as quietly as I could. I looked around the hallway to find that there wasn''t anything there other than the five goblin corpses and six clubs. I moved the corpses away from the door and dragged the clubs as quietly as I could into the apartment. No matter how quietly as I dragged the clubs they still made noise, but through all the noise April slept peacefully. I closed the door to the apartment and looked at my handy work. While looking at the club I used my skill identification. Wooden club Attack power: 10-12 Durability: 59(60) Description: Crude club made by the goblin race While looking at the club''s information I didn''t get the wow factor I was looking for. It was understandable since the goblins were low level monsters. Even though I was slightly disappointed I didn''t let it get to me. I started to think of different ways to make the clubs useable since in their current state they were too heavy for us to walk with no less swing it. There wasn''t much things to work with in Aprils apartment other than kitchen utensils. I know I shouldn''t be going through her stuff without her permission but in a time of need I just had to. I found the biggest sharpest knife that was available then went back to the clubs. I sat against a wall while a club was in between my legs with the knife in my hands. I tried chopping at the club as if I had a machete in my hand, but the knife wasn''t long enough, and I was afraid of cutting myself. I then proceeded to cut into the club the best way I could without getting injured. The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement. This was probably the hardest thing I ever did in my life, while cutting the club the knife hardly did a scratch to it. I had to cut at the same spot for five minutes before I started to get some headway. My right arm was starting to get heavy, so I switch to my left arm. This time the process was getting harder to cut since I was a righty. Ten minutes into the process I hardly made any headway. Seeing that cutting from the middle of the cub wasn''t working I switched to working on the bottom. Surprisingly enough cutting from the bottom was easier but still didn''t change the fact that it was very time consuming. I started to complain to myself how hard this was until I remembered I didn''t distribute any of my stat points. I said status window in my head to have my information show. I mentally clicked on stat points. Do you want to distribute your stat points? I obviously wanted to distribute the stats, so I said yes. I didn''t think about the path I wanted to develop in the future, the only thing that was going through my mind was how I should solve my current dilemma. I then decided to put three points into strength and one point into endurance and dexterity. Are you sure with your selection? I said yes in my head. After I was done with distributing the points I felt a warm current coursing through my body. It was hands down the most comfortable thing I have ever felt to date. While the warm feeling was going through me I felt my body getting stronger. Compared to lifting weights this was ten times better. It would be even better if I didn''t have to risk my life to get more points. When the current was done going through my body I resumed cutting the club. The process was easier Two hours later I had worked on two clubs. I only stopped when I sensed April was waking up. I checked on my two finished pieces and thought that they were very crude. I tried picking the clubs up to find they were lighter and moveable. I checked on the new status of the clubs. Wooden clubs Attack power: 7-8 Durability: 41(60) Description: Crude club made by the goblin race but was modified by an unqualified person Wooden clubs Attack power: 7-8 Durability: 43(60) Description: Crude club made by the goblin race but was modified by an unqualified person I should be disappointed that both the attack power and durability decreased but compared to not being able to move the clubs and moving the clubs it was a big difference. Shortly after April woke up and saw me doing a small victory dance. She giggled and said, "I didn''t know that you could dance."? I was so engrossed in my victory I forgot she was about to wake up, I felt so embarrassed my face turned a tad bit red. "It''s just something I picked up along the way it isn''t anything to big" I answered while trying to get my emotions under control. "Whatever you say, whatever you say"? she said. "Uhm what time is it and are we still going to look for supplies?"? I looked at my phone to find that it was already three fifteen in the afternoon. "it''s a quarter pass three"? I answered. "Anytime you are ready to go we will go look for the supplies."? "Give me a minute to get ready" she said back to me. Five minutes later we were ready to go. We both had a club to carry with an addition of an empty bookbag on our backs. I put my ears against the door to see if there wasn''t any danger. Seeing that there wasn''t any I opened the door. We both got out the door to hear some dragging sounds just got to love our luck. April closed the door behind us as quietly as she could in order to avoid alerting the potential goblin of our location. We went the opposite direction of where the sound was coming from. We didn''t run into anything or anyone in the direction we choose. Thirty seconds later we arrived at the stairs. We slowly went down the stairs to find the coast was clear. We stared to slowly walk down the hallway to reach outside. If our luck was good, we wouldn''t run into anything but if our luck was bad we had another thing coming. By the will of the universe we ran into three goblins at the front of the exit and two goblins running to catch up to us from behind. We made a quick decision of her fighting the three monsters in front of us while I dealt with the ones behind us. I knew that she was stronger than me, so I didn''t complain with the situation I had other things to worry about. It was hard for me to handle one goblin last time now I had to handle two. The goblins were about ten meters from our position, I didn''t want to interfere with Aprils fight so I ran as fast as I could to give her distance. When I was six feet away from one of the goblins it lunged at me with a wooden club in tow. I stopped my feet as fast as possible. With my quick reaction the club landed half a foot away from my toes. I felt a cold chill in the back of my spine. My quick thinking saved me from a world of pain and potentially my death. Before I had the time to think goblin B reached behind goblin A on the ground and jumped up while swinging its club like a bat. At this moment the world seemed to slow down, I saw the club was heading to smash my face in. The only thing on my mind was to duck or I was going to die a V. With death at my front door my body reacted quicker than it has been in my entire life. I ducked down just in time to hear a SWISH sound passing on top of my bead. A couple of nanoseconds later the club hit the opposite wall with a huge BANG. I turned my face to the right to see the club was stuck in the wall. Just seeing the club in the wall made me break into a cold seat. My heart felt like it was trying to break away from my chest. Goblin B tried to pull the club from the wall to no avail. Goblin A on the floor picked the opportunity to swing his club at my knees. Luckily for me goblin B used enough force to pull the club from the wall but on its way down goblins A club hit it with full force. Goblin ''s body hit the right wall extremely hard I don''t think it would be able to get up from that injury. Goblin A was in shock after hitting its partner but snapped out of it as soon as it happened. I took the opportunity in goblins A shock to swing my club at its head. Just before my club hit the goblin it put up its free hand to block the blow. This quick action didn''t help the goblin in the slightest I put enough force behind my swing to know that it would receive heavy damage. My club hit the goblin with a sickening sound of bones breaking. The sound made my stomach hurt but it was better the goblin then me was hit. The goblin fell to the ground then its body started to twitch. I kind of felt bad for the goblin but I felt no remorse. I swung at the goblins head to end its mercy. When the club landed on the goblins head all of its brain matter sprayed on my body. I felt like throwing up at the gruesome sight, but I held it in. I turned to look at the other goblin and saw that it wasn''t dead, and it was starting to regain some mobility, so I dragged myself to finish it off. Chapter 4: grusome Staring at the wounded defensive goblin made me feel like my stomach was hurting. The feeling seems to come from the brain matter that was on my clothes with the added guilt of killing a humanoid being. I always thought of myself as a person who could kill when push came to shove but when it actually happens it comes with a sickening feeling. If I had to kill a human being I don''t know if I would have it in me. Looking back at the goblin I pushed down the feeling as best as I could and with my resolve built up I held up my modified club above my head. I was ready to give to give the final blow but what I failed to notice was the goblin had reached for its club and held it. The goblin knew that it had no chance of surviving so it waited for me to give it it''s death blow. I only had one thought in my head, to end this situation as quickly as possible then to help April, well maybe two thoughts. As I was swinging the club down the goblin tightened his hand on its club and threw it at me. Before my club connected the goblins club hit me square in the guts. The club hit me so hard the world went black for what seemed like an eternity but only lasted a tenth of a second. CRAAACCCKKK CRAAACCKKK, the loud creepy disturbing sound of bones braking shocked me back into reality. I looked down at the dying goblin to see his ribs protruding out his stomach, red blood mixed with broken bones, crushed organs flowed out his body. The gory seen made me nauseous, I couldn''t hold back my nonexistent breakfast. BLAUUGHH BLAUUGHH my greenish red vomit erupted out my mouth and splashed everywhere. Throwing up and seeing such a disgusting scene made me lose all the strength in my legs. I feel down in the throw up and blood. The smell was extremely revolting making me throw up one more time. My stomach was hurting, and I couldn''t take the smell anymore. I mustered my remaining strength, held my breath in and started to crawl to the clean untainted air. It took me fifteen seconds, but it was all worth it. I was free at last I wanted to lay down and fall asleep, but April was still fighting. I wanted to go and help but I had no more strength. The last hit to the stomach did a number on me I was surprised that I was even able to stay awake at this point. All I could do right now was look up and see how April handled the situation. If she lost, we were both in a place where we could both lose are lives. I prayed for her victory, I was still a virgin and had so much to live for. April didn''t disappoint, she fought the goblins as easy as breathing. She had already killed one goblin with two more in front of her. One goblin was facing her from the left the other from the right. The goblins attacked simultaneously April slid back while the two clubs hit her previous spot. After sliding back April did a front kick to the side of left goblins head, while landing on her right leg she did a back kick to the goblins stomach. The goblin landed on the floor with a BAM. April finished the goblin off my stomping its head in. The remaining goblin was visibly shook1, even I was shocked. She looked good while fighting but was extremely brutal. I should be the one asking her for protection. The last goblin initiated its next attack by lunging after April. April sidestepped the attack got into the goblins guard and axe kicked its head. The goblin fell head first to the ground. Before the gobbling could get up April stomped on its head all you could hear was the sound of bones braking. The goblin didn''t even see the next attack before he was dead. I had my mouth wide open while turning my head side to side trying to see if someone saw what I''ve seen. Of course, there wasn''t anyone there I just ended up looking like an idiot. April saw me and laughed I knew I looked stupid, so I laughed along with her.The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings. She walked up to me to pick me up and told me "you stank go take a bath seriously you stank though." Embarrassing as that was she was right I needed to clean myself. Twenty minutes after I scrubbed myself clean we ended up back on the ground floor. There was a Walgreens three minutes away from us by foot. It was the closest place to us, so we decided to choose to go there. Walking out the apartment buildings we saw mangled body''s everywhere. We walked up to the nearest body to see that the persons head was smashed in. Thinking back on my fights I shuddered and thanked the universe that I was alive. Passing by countless bodies we saw dead kids and even dead babies. It was one of the saddest things I saw in my life, the kids had just began living their lives and were already dead. Life had many ups and downs, but it was until today I saw how brutal life could be. We gave the dead our prayers hoping that they would have better lives in their next life. After saying our prayers, we left for the store. While walking to Walgreens outside was creepily quiet. Other than the dead bodies and abandoned cars there weren''t any living beings in sight. This gave me ominous feeling as if we shouldn''t be here. Usually I would have left in this situation, but we would need supplies for now and the future. It was better to look now than in the future since we would never know if we would have the chance again. The closer we came to Walgreens the stronger the feeling became. The worst thing about this was that there wasn''t anything to there. If felt like there was maybe a ghost watching and following us. The feeling kept getting stronger and stronger but nothing out of the ordinary happened. When we entered Walgreens, the feeling disappeared altogether. I felt a chill ran through my back and from the feeling I knew something was following us and if we left the store we had a high chance of getting attacked. I bitterly chuckled to myself. I couldn''t wait for this day to be over. April heard me chuckling and told me "you don''t have to worry I''ll protect you." I chuckled more bitterly than before. She really knew how to cheer a guy up. "I''ll go get tooth brushes and all other small thingy''s we might need"? I said trying to change the subject. "Why you trying to change the subject, you embarrassed or what? Alright I''ll go get food and everything else"? she said. I kept thinking that this girl had no chill, she was just grilling me. Contrary to popular belief I actually didn''t mind, I liked a girl with some sass, but I silently vowed to get her back. We went our separate ways to find what we would need. I found tooth brushes, mouth wash, hair products and everything we might need in the future. I didn''t know how much things we would need so I got two of everything. The only thing that I couldn''t find that we would most likely need later on was a flint striker to make fires. We''d probably need to find a different store to get one but that''ll be work for the future. I was finish getting everything that could fit in my bookbag I went to look for April. I found her looking at the limited amount of greens in the store. I asked her if she had everything we needed and if she was ready to go. She showed me everything that she was able to fit in her bag. There wasn''t any junk food or candy, but it was enough healthy food for us to last a couple of days. As we were leaving we passed by the candy isle I stared at the candy that was screaming at me "come get me, you know you want me."? I fought my urges since I knew that I could come back here later. I only hoped that there wasn''t any people that would come by and take all of it, but from the destruction I''ve seen so far there was a small chance of that happening. Walking out of Walgreens the afternoon warmth of the sun hit our bodies. Seconds later the chilling feeling of someone me came back. I looked around to see if there was anyone watching us that had malicious content. As what happened earlier nothing was there, the feeling seems to be a figment of my imagination. Shrugging off the creepy feeling we started to walk back to the apartment. Just as I was starting to relax the feeling came back with a vengeance. Something in my being told me to jump to my left. I have never felt something like this before. I didn''t know what would happen, so I followed what the voice told me. The split second that I jumped to my left a sharp object passed by my right arm. I looked at my right arm to look at where I felt the object pass to find my arm bleeding. Chapter 5: Beware of the shadows My heart started to beat extremely fast it hadn''t been an hour and I''ve already ran into a life and death situation again. This time it was extremely dangerous, while the two goblins earlier had clubs in their hands, whatever attacked me this time had something sharp in its hand. Life seemed to want me dead. I looked for what attacked me to find nothing there. Whatever attacked me seem to just disappear. In thin air. I looked behind to see if there wasn''t something there. There wasn''t anything there either. How could something just appear and disappear at will? I know the thing attacked me from the back, so where was it? There isn''t anything scarier than knowing that there was something hunting you and not being able to see it. This mad me bring my guard up, I held my modified club close to my body just in case the thing came back. I turned to my right to ask April if she saw what attacked me. She was looking at me if I was seeing things. "What are you talking about, nothing happened I just seen you jumping for no apparent reason, then you started to look around like you were crazy" April relied looking every bit concerned about my wellbeing. As April was speaking she saw my arm had a cut and it was bleeding. "Wait... wait how did that happen? What happened?"? Even in a serious situation April was really cute and it was funny how her mind tried to wrap around this situation. After thinking this I got serious. "I''m not sure but from the moment we started to walk to Walgreens I had a feeling that something wasn''t right. It felt like something was stocking us. I wasn''t sure if it was my imagination or not since the feeling disappeared when we entered Walgreens. Then after we left the store I felt like I was being watched again. It wasn''t until a couple seconds ago that I was attacked, and I have no idea what it was."? "Why didn''t you tell me this before?"? "I honestly thought that we were feeling the same thing, so I didn''t bring it up."? "I didn''t feel anything the whole time. This means that something is targeting you, but why?"? "I think it''s because whatever is attacking us feels that I''m the weakest link. If it attacks you first there''s a chance of you blocking its attack and if you do that I would have a chance of helping you out. On the other hand, if it attacks me first I''d probably die leaving only you by yourself."? Coming to this conclusion we both went quiet for a while until I thought of an idea. "Since the things attacking me I should play the bait while you somehow injure it."? "You shouldn''t be playing with your life like that, you don''t know if I''ll be able to react on time or if you would be able to escape the next attack unscathed."? "I honestly wouldn''t want to put my life on the line but in this situation, we have no other choice. If we don''t kill the thing now it will most likely follow us and by then our chance of surviving will be extremely slim. If we take care of it know all our troubles for now will disappear and I honestly don''t want anything attacking me in my sleep."? April seem to broad over my proposition. "Are you sure this is what you want knowing that you have a chance of dying?"? "I''m sure knowing that this will be our best chance of survival. If there was another way I would do it differently but there isn''t."? April looked into my eyes while I was speaking to see that I wasn''t speaking empty words. "Ok. Now we have to consider how we will lure the thing in."? "I''m guessing whatever attacked me is close by, so you will have to pay attention to my movements. If you see me about to do any movement out of the ordinary attack."? "I guess that should work" replied April after thinking it through. After finalizing a couple more details with April we were finally ready to implement the plan. We resumed walking back to the apartment. While walking back I made myself seem to lose my guard by relaxing my body a bit and holding my modified club with my left hand. While I did this April tightened her guard and was watching my movements. To sell the idea that we weren''t aware of our impending doom we pretended to carry out a conversation. Everything seem to go as plan. The ominous feeling came back, and I started to feel like I was being watched again. I told April the thing that attacked me was back. April pretended like nothing had happened but was secretly getting ready to attack.Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings. Thirty seconds went by with nothing happening until the voice in my head came back. It told me to move or I''m dead. This was the second time this happened, the first time the voice saved me, so I wasn''t going to take any chances. As soon as I heard the voice I exerted as much force as I can into my legs and jumped to my left. April was watching my movements the whole time, so when she saw me getting tensed she knew that something was about to happen. April didn''t let this chance slip away from her. She slightly pivoted her foot and by doing so she was slightly facing me. She brought her modified club up and swung it like it was a bat. All I heard was the sound of something hitting flesh then an agenizing roar filled with pain. At this moment I knew our plan worked. I whipped my head around to see what attacked me. Silver - Shadow Goblin Lvl: 7 Health: 237(250) What I saw was a grey goblin with green markings on its body. This goblin wasn''t wearing a small lion cloth like the regular goblins we fought earlier but had on tattered pants. It was a relief no one wants to see genitals hanging out in the open. The goblin was on the ground rubbing its shins. That seemed to be the spot April attacked landed on. While looking at the goblin I started to feel an unprecedented amount of pressure. My body was telling me to run if I don''t I would die. As much as I wanted to listen to my body I couldn''t I knew this was our only chance to get rid of the shadow goblin. While feeling the pressure from the shadow goblins body my eyes moved up to see its status screen. There was something different about the status screen compared to the regular goblins. It had something preceding its name, Silver. When I played games I never seen something as strange as this. From the pressure the shadow goblin was giving me I came to the conclusion that it wasn''t an ordinary goblin. While I was thinking this the goblin stopped rubbing its shins and turned to face us. As soon as the shadow goblins eyes faced me I felt the pressure multiplied. The goblin was looking at us with bloodlust mixed with madness in its eyes. Just from that one look I knew we were in trouble. The shadow goblin slowly got off the ground as if we weren''t a threat to its life. The total disregard for our presence made me mad. This thing was gunning for our lives and it couldn''t show us some respect. I didn''t know what I was expecting but whatever it was we weren''t getting it. The goblin looked at its hands to see it missing its weapons, so it slowly bent down to get two things off the floor. When it retrieved its fallen weapons, it turned to face us one more time. While looking at us it slowly started to grin as if it knew that we would die by its hand. The smile gave me the creeps, but I would never let it show on my face. I started to hold my modified club in my hands knowing that we were about to fight the deadliest threat to our lives since this whole mess started. I looked to my right to see April had her guard up the whole time. She was frowning as if she was thinking about something. She turned to me to say, "whatever you do don''t let the shadow goblin get out of the sun."? What she said didn''t register in my brain right away until I looked at where the goblin landed. It was in the sun I turned to look at my surroundings to see that we were in the shade. It all made sense it was all in the goblins name SHADOW GOBLIN. The goblin was somehow following us in the shadows, that was why when it was following us and when it attacked we couldn''t see it. My heart went cold I knew that coming up with the plan was the best idea. If we hadn''t attacked now the shadow goblin would have followed us and killed us in our sleep. We were lucky Aprils attack forced it into the sun. I nodded to April to signal to her that I understood her meaning. The goblin started to rush run in our direction as if it was about to run into us. I took a couple of steps and swung in its direction. The goblin jumped in the air to avoid the attack by doing so my club missed it entirely. April wasn''t idling around when the goblin avoided my attack April was right in place to land an attack. April swung her club at the goblin when the attack was about to hit the goblin brought its arms together to block the blow from hitting its body. WHACK was the sound I heard when Aprils attack landed extremely hard. The goblin was sent flying back faster than it came. The goblin flipped in the air and nimbly landed on its feet. The entire time, the shadow goblin was looking at us with malice in its eyes. If looks could kill, we would be dead ten times over. The most surprising things was its arms, they seemed perfectly fine. I knew from the sound of that hit the goblin should be more injured than what I was seeing. The shadow goblins bones seemed to be made out of iron. "Jason be more attentive, you might have not noticed but the goblin wasn''t really trying to attack you, it was trying to go back into the shadows."? "I''ll pay more attention next time"? I replied knowing that I almost committed a grave mistake. The shadow goblin was more cunning than I originally thought. I had no idea on how to attack the goblin without committing a blunder. While trying to think of a way to attack, the goblin smiled a toothy smile before he suddenly appeared in front of me aiming to stab my heart. In that quick period of time the voice didn''t give me any directions, but my body reacted by itself trying to protect me. The goblin stabbed out as fast as it came. The dagger in its hand stabbed into my chest bone but before the dagger could go any further my body counterattacked by dropping the club in my hands and delivering a right cross to the goblins temple. When my attack landed the dagger didn''t go any further into my chest, but with my horrible luck the hit to the temple made the goblins dagger slice through the left side of my chest. The cut was''t deep but when my brain registered the pain I almost fell over. This was the worst pain I felt in my life. When blood started to come out of the cut I knew that if we didn''t end this fight quickly I would be in deep trouble. While sweat started to trickle down the side of my face the goblin was slightly stunned from the blow. I wasn''t going to let this chance slip by my hands. I had no weapons in my hands and the goblin was to close for a kick to be effective. The only thing I could do was punch the goblin again but if I did another right cross the goblin had a chance of getting into the shade. The only other punches that came to mind was an uppercut and a jab. The goblin was starting to wake up from its stun state, but I was''t going to let it go. I punched out with an extremely fast uppercut to the jaw followed by a quick jab to the goblins nose. Chapter 6: Tough victory The quick jab to the face made the shadow goblins eyes water and with the pain that came with the jab the goblin fully woke up from its daze. Just as it was about to move to protect itself I kicked out clumsily to its stomach which sent it back a couple feet into the sun. Through all my actions the goblin was hardly injured, but it was better than nothing. The goblin then numbly landed on its feet again, but April wasn''t going to let the goblin have any breaks. As she ran up to the goblin she swung her modified club aiming for its head, just as it was about to land the goblin put both its arms up to block the blow. BAM! The club landed with furry. The goblin was sent flying two meters back, but like always it nimbly landed on its feet. I hate to admit this, but the shadow goblin has an amazing sense of balance that would make anyone jealous. While the goblin was shaking off the damage I looked at how much damage we did overall. Silver - Shadow Goblin Lvl: 7 Health: 189(250) Through all the damage me and April did to the goblin its health was going down extremely slow, but on the bright side we were chipping away at its life chip by chip. As long as we didn''t let any mishaps happen we would be in the green. I bent down to pick up my fallen club then tightened my hold on the club waiting for the goblin to attack. I didn''t have to wait for long as the goblin had already stabilized itself. There was one thing I noticed about the goblin it was noticeably tired. The daggers in its hand didn''t seem to be heavy and it was still nimble, the only thing I could think effected its stamina was the instantaneous attack it landed on me. This was extremely good news, but it also made me worry. If the goblin could use its skill a couple more times I would probably die. The goblin was specifically targeting me and now I was losing blood I don''t think I would be able to block the skill a second time. The goblin growled while waiting for us to show any openings. No one moved for a good ten seconds, I couldn''t take the wait anymore and I was starting to get woozy. April looked at me with worry in her eyes and saw that I was getting impatient. "Cover me while I attack and don''t lose your cool. We''ll end the fight as quick as possible, so we could bandage you up but remember don''t lose your cool."? I nodded to show her that I understood her plan. I took in a deep breath to regulate my breathing. I pushed down my impatient and tried to block out the pain. After, doing this I started to concentrate on the fight to come. April calmly started to walk up to the shadow goblin, as soon as she reached a meter from the goblin she lunged while aiming for the goblins waist. The goblin seen the attack coming from a mile away. The goblin jumped up in the air to avoid the attack. The attack missed the goblin but that was when I threw my club. The club came whizzing at the goblin stomach. The goblin couldn''t move in the air, so it tightened its stomach while bringing its arms down to block the blow. What no one saw coming was that the goblin put more force in its jump then it wanted to which made the next moment hell on earth for it. The club a fraction of a second later hit the goblin square in its genitals. I could have sworn I heard a disgusting crack coming from the goblins private part. The sound made me cringe from the bottom of my soul. The goblin spat out a glob of blood on its way down. This time the goblin didn''t land on its feet it fell on its back with a hard THUMP! Out of the goblins mouth came a blood curling shrill scream. I subconsciously brought my hands down to cover up my private part. For the first time in my life I felt extreme pity for someone else and I felt extremely bad for what I did. I wouldn''t wish for this to happen to my worst enemy. The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation. I looked over to April to see her body shaking a bit. I seen where her eyes where looking to see blood coming out the shadow goblins genitals. My body once more cringed at the sight of the blood. I couldn''t imagine the amount of pain the goblin was going through and I didn''t want to. My cut seemed petty compared to what happened to the goblin. When Aprils body stopped shaking she turned to me and I saw the resoluteness to end this I her eyes. She tightened her hold of her club, walked to the goblin, aimed the club at the goblins head and down came the club. The goblin raised one of its hands up to block the blow. The goblin was slightly successful, but the blow slightly landed on its head. April was somewhat disappointed at the outcome but didn''t let it faze her too much. She raised up her club for the next blow, she used all the strength she could muster on the club''s way down. The goblin didn''t want to die without getting revenge on me. Before Aprils hit could land the shadow goblin stopped feeling pity for itself, honed in its hatred for me and started to roll. Even though the goblin rolled it didn''t fully escape the range of the attack. Aprils attack landed on the right side of the goblins head. Lucky for the goblin the blow didn''t end its life since it only nicked its head a bit. The shadow goblin got on its feet and escaped from Aprils range. The goblin looked at me with pure malice in its eyes, if looks could kill I would be dead ten times over. While looking at me the shadow goblin brought its hand over to its head, while bringing its hands down it saw its blood. Staring at its blood it turned to glare at April but quickly turned back to me. I felt an unbelievable amount of pressure from the goblins body. From this I knew I was in trouble, I had no weapon in my hands to potentially block the next attack. Even with all this I had no fear in my eyes I was ready for what was next to come. April saw what was happening and she knew what the goblin was going to do next. She put her foot down getting ready to sprint in my direction. Before she could even run the goblin disappeared to only reappear a fraction of a second later in front of me. I was already ready for this attack, so I had planted my feet earlier hoping to jump back out of the range of the attack. I wasn''t successful since the shadow goblin appeared very close to my guard. As soon as the goblin reached me it struck out with its dagger. To my horror the goblin wasn''t aiming at my heart but somewhere that was extremely vindictive, my genitals. I have never been so scared in my life. I was so scarred I tried so hard to make my body move out of the daggers path. I almost felt something in my back rip, but I didn''t pay attention since by the will of god my body turned enough for the dagger to stab into my leg. I wanted to cry out in pain but held it in. I fell to the ground hard but kept my head up, so I didn''t hit the ground in doing so I escaped getting a concussion. The goblin looked at me with a slight reluctance in its eyes. It knew that this was its only chance to escape into the shadows. Looking at me one more time the goblin started to run. Before it could go anywhere far I reached out and caught its leg in mid stride. The shadow goblin fell down to the ground looking at the shade with longing that would never come. The goblin turned on its back to face me in its last moments. I ignored the pain coming from the dagger stuck in my leg and pulled the goblin towards me. I ignored the blood coming out of the goblin and crawled on top of it. While on top of the goblin I started to punch with all the resentment this fight gave me. The shadow goblin brought its hands up to block my punches to the best of its ability, but it was badly injured and beyond tired. My punches were landing on its guard until it had no more energy to protect itself. If I had looked down I would see the goblin had tears running down its face and the unwillingness to die in its eyes. My mind didn''t recognize anything other then my rage and resentment. Even if I did see what was happening I would still kill the shadow goblin. Punch after punch after punch landed on the goblins face until it started to get bloody. I didn''t care I kept on going and going punch after punch after punch until I heard a sound in my head followed by another notification. Silver- Shadow Goblin is dead! Lvl up! Even after the two notifications I kept on punching and punching until April pulled me off the shadow goblins body. Tears started to come out of my eyes, I was so happy to be alive that I didn''t care if April saw me crying. This was the most dangerous fight I had in my life, I had a semi-deep cut on my chest just above my nipples and a dagger stuck in my leg. I also had a possible injury to my back from turning at the shadow goblins attack to my family jewels. Crying helped relieve all my pent up destructive emotions and it wouldn''t matter who saw me in this moment I would still cry. "It''s all over now so let it all out"? said April. I turned to her and nodded. I looked at the sky and roared letting out every bad emotion I had at this moment. April patted my back to give me encouragement and laughed in the process. "If your done let''s go get your wounds cleaned."? Chapter 7: Loot "I''m good I''m good but I can''t say so for our friend over there. Sigggghhhh I didn''t know how good life was before this. I honestly preferred my everyday boring life, it might have been tediously boring, but I wasn''t in any danger. Now look at me I''m bleeding all over, I have a dagger in my leg. Worst off I almost lose my family jewels"? I said to April while chuckling bitterly to myself. "All that matters right now is that were alive and that we have the chance to live another day" said April to cheer me up. "I guess your right another day another dollar or in this case another death encounter."? Looking one more time at the goblin I sighed life, was really hard. I looked forward ready to go on with my life. I took my first step towards my future to only regret it. I forgot for one second that I had a dagger stuck in my leg and to seconds later take my first step on the same leg. The pain was so sharp that I almost passed out. I lost my balance for a second to find April catching me. "Put your arm around my neck and I''ll bring you there."? I listened to her and put my arm around her neck for support. Now I was truly ready to face the world though with a rough start. As we started walking for Walgreens my foot accidently kicked the shadow goblin aside. I felt a strong jolt from the pain which in turn made me look down. When I looked at the place the goblin use to be I saw four objects that had a silver corona surrounding them. I was surprised sense three of them had a considerable size. I don''t know how I missed them at first, I guess I was preoccupied with my thoughts. When I was done being surprised I suddenly had an idea on what the objects could be... loots. I was so happy I tapped Aprils shoulder to get her attention. "What? Did something happen" she asked while being surprised at my actions. "Look at the things by the goblins corpse and you''ll know why I''m so excited" I answered back with so much happiness I was practically glowing. April looked at the ground to see what I saw. I told her to check them to see if we had anything good. She took my arm found around her neck to check out our loot. She picked the items up one by one with so much excitement that I was somewhat jealous, but that quickly went away when she showed them to me. When I looked at the items I knew why she was so happy. The loot we found were a ring and three skill books. Spatial Ring A ring that has for some reason have spatial space in it. Use your mind to control. Space: 10 sq. feet Activation: 10 mana per use Shadow Leap This skill enables you to go into the shadows to attack you opponent. The skill last 5 seconds from the time of activation. Requirement: none Skill activation: 25 mana Corpse Garden This skill gives you the ability to use monster''s corpses to build a garden. When using monster''s corpses to plant there''s a small chance of causing mutations. Requirement: None Skill activation: N/A Monster Cook This skill gives you the ability to obtain stat points when cooking with monster''s corpses. Stats are picked randomly. Requirement: None Skill activation: N/A I was so happy to see a spatial ring that I had a cheesy smile on my face. I read so many wuxia light novels to recognize what I could do with it instantly. Though ten square feet didn''t seem like a lot of space it was plenty to get things done, plus it was free space that wasn''t there. Out of all the things that came out of the goblins corpse the spatial ring was my favorite, though I couldn''t count out the skill books since each had their own functions. Shadow leap would let me go into the shadows and do a sneak attack on my enemy''s, but I didn''t have any unique fighting experience to use the skill to its full potential. Shadow leap suited April better than it suited me. Corpse garden and monster cook on the other hand were potentially OP skilled depending on how you perceive them. Corpse garden seemed more ambiguous than the other skills and I don''t know what would when I do use it, but that was the charm. Monster cook on the other hand was the true OP skill because leveling up only gave you a small increase in stat points, while just eating food from monster cook would bring up your stats. Any true gamer would know that having extra stats were like giving your character an extra life. This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there. Now the only problem was distributing the skills fairly. I didn''t know how to tell April what I wanted in a way that I didn''t sound like a douche bag, so I went with what came to mind. I looked at April, made a sound under my breath to get her attention and said, "I want the spatial ring and corpse garden." I want straight to the point without beating around the bush so all I could do now was wait for her answer. "Straight forward are we now? I mean why the spatial ring instead of shadow leap?"? "Uhmmm... Honestly it just doesn''t suit me at all and I felt like it would suit you better. I also hope that I didn''t seem sexist for not picking monster cook. I honestly don''t want to cook and if you get monster cook you basically have an overpowered skill"? I said in my non-douche voice. "You know when you were trying to explain why you didn''t pick monster cook makes you sound like a douche. On the other hand, I do think that shadow leap would be a great skill for me and your lucky I like to cook"? said April with a small cunning smile on her face. With everything decided April gave me the spatial ring and corpse garden. I slowly put the spatial ring on my ring finger while admiring it the whole time. The spatial ring wasn''t beautiful by any means, but it was a SPATIAL RING. April saw me admiring the ring then rolled her eyes at me. She looked back to her spoils of war and the next second I seen one of them disappeared. I looked at Aprils face to see that she had her eyes closed and had a look of enlightenment on her face. A couple seconds later she snapped out of it. She had that look in her eyes as if she discovered something amazing. I didn''t want to be left behind so I turned to my skill book and tried to somehow learn it. Do you want to learn Corpse Garden? I was thinking to myself of course I want to learn this skill, why else would I be trying so hard to learn it. I softly replied yes to the question. Are you sure there''s no going back? When I answered yes again for conformation there was an explosion of information that entered my brain. The information told me that just putting corpses into the ground would enrich the earth, but to get your plants to mutate I had to insert my mana into the corpse a certain way. I was taught the method to insert my mana into the corpse and the do''s and don''ts to get everything correct. The last piece of information I received was that depending on the size of the corpse I would spend more or less mana to get the skill to work and that the chance of mutating plants was extremely low. I was slightly disappointed in the information that I got but I was also looking forward to plants mutating. Now all I could do was wait until I could actually use the skill. While April was immersed in her skills I was debating on whether I should use the shadow goblins body or the regular goblins bodies to first use corpse garden. When April was about to emerge from her immersion I decided on using the regular goblins bodies since I didn''t know what would happen if I failed to use the skill properly. While finishing my thoughts April was just finished learning her new skills. I wanted to slightly show off my spatial ring to April so, I awkwardly tried to bend done while not trying to aggravate my leg injury. I was in so much pain I wanted to give up halfway through but, I still wanted to show off. I fought through the pain and finally I was able to touch the goblins corpse. "I don''t want to sound like a douche but look how cool the spatial ring is"? I said before closing my eyes and willing the goblin corpse to appear in the space in the spatial ring. I opened my eyes to see that the goblin corpse gone. I looked over to April with a somewhat conceited smile on my face. "Cool right!"? "Yea yea its somewhat cool, but I''ve seen better so don''t get your panties in a bunch"? April said while rolling her eyes. I didn''t let her sarcasm affect my mood and kept on smiling. A minute later I was done with my gloating and ready to get my wounds treated. When I tried to get up my body just gave out. I couldn''t move I was stuck in my position and there went all my cockiness. "Haaa now you need my help, don''t you? I should just leave you here but I''m such a nice person" said April with a mischievous smile. "A nice person wouldn''t say they''re nice" I replied back to get her off her pedestal. April told me "shut up"? while playfully punching me on my shoulder. We both had a small laugh which in turn made the pressure of the day slightly go away. "Put your arm around my neck before you bleed out."? Seconds later April bent down allowing me to do just that. I put my arm around her neck while she got us up. I felt a slight pain but compared to not being able to move it was heaven. We were now up and about again but this time we had no more distractions or where there. Ten steps later we entered the shade. "Let go of me for a quick second, I want to show you something"? said April with a smile on her face. I slightly groaned knowing what she was about to do next. Ah karma karma karma why couldn''t you let me have a moment to myself sighhh. When I took my arm from around Aprils neck she took a step, turned around to face me with a gloating smile on her face and disappeared. Her just disappearing like that was extremely earie and cool at the same time. I looked around to find her but found nothing. Man, shadow leap was a cool skill, but I would never tell April that. I couldn''t find her anywhere, I also couldn''t move anywhere, so I was starting to get a little worried for her. I didn''t have to wait for long because she appeared behind me then she yelled "boo."? I was so scared I almost boboed1 my pants literally."FUDGE don''t do that, that ain''t cool man" I cried out. By trying to defend myself made April start to have a laughing fit. "It isn''t that funny"? I tried saying to defend myself. "You should have seen yourself. MAN, but that was the funniest thing ever. I''ll try to stop if you want me to, you big baby" said April trying her hardest to control her laughter. I pretended not to hear her while mumbling under my breath. I had no choice but to get her back on another time and when I do I''ll be the one who would be having the laughing fit. When April finally stopped laughing she put my arm around her neck and patted my back. Even though I was slightly mad at her for scarring me I was glad that she was by my side. Thirty seconds later we had finally came close to Walgreens. As soon as we got close to the entrance the automatic doors opened with a cool wave of air hitting our faces. The temperature difference made my wounds itch a bit, but all in all I was finally about to get my wounds treated. Chapter 8: Cry Baby With my arm around Aprils neck I limped my way into the medicine aisle. When we reached the medicine isle there wasn''t much medicine to choose from. Though we didn''t find all that much medicine we did find a couple bottles of rubbing alcohol. When I seen the rubbing alcohol I groaned knowing that I was about to experience a bout of extreme pain. I wasn''t a fan of pain and knowing that rubbing alcohol was involved made a little tear come out of my eyes. I quickly wiped it away so that April didn''t see me tearing up. While Angel gently put me down on the floor she reached out to grab the rubbing alcohol. As soon as she grabbed it I truly wanted to cry but held it in. April put down the rubbing alcohol right by my face, I don''t know if she knew how much anxiety the rubbing alcohol was causing me by putting it by my face. I was thinking to myself "is this what hell feels like?"? I was honestly asking this question that would never be answered. "Don''t move too much, I''ll go get a couple of things so hold on tight."? I was thinking to myself even if I wanted to move I wouldn''t be able to, so I nodded in confirmation. As I waited for April I started to think back on the previous fight and the moments leading to the fight. I had committed too many mistakes that could have been avoided. Starting from when I first felt that something was following me I should have informed April and by doing so we could have been more prepared. Also, when we were fighting the shadow goblin I didn''t take the fight as serious as I should have. I also disregarded the fact that in any RPG game the boss type monsters had special skills. Even though this was real life and we wouldn''t revive when we died it was pretty similar. The biggest mistake that I committed was not knowing the special characteristic of the shadow goblin. It was thanks to April covering up my mistakes that we were able to win the fight. The one thing that I learned from all my fights was that I am extremely weak, I didn''t pay much attention to what was going on and I needed to get in shape. My best option was to get April to train with me since I didn''t know how to fight properly, and I didn''t think I would find a better person. Besides it was also a way to get in her good grace. While I was still in my thoughts April came back without me even knowing. When I finally seen her, I was startled and knew that I had another problem to solve, great. In April hands were a pair of scissors, some cotton swabs, a fluffy bear and a shirt. I''m guessing the scissors were for cutting my shirt to clean the wound on my chest and for cutting my pants around my leg wound. The fluffy bear was probably for muffing my soon to be dying screams and the shirt was probably for tying up my leg wound. I silently sighed to myself knowing the inevitable was about to happen. April sat down the items in her hands while she sat next to me. She tried to reassure me that it wouldn''t be so painful. I thought to myself who was she trying to fool. I know that it would be extremely painful, but I just didn''t know how painful it was going be in the end. April stopped trying to reassure me and got to business. She grabbed the scissors and started to cut off my shirt. She gently tried to remove the shirt off my wound, but since my blood had dried out, the shirt was stuck to my skin. When she tried tugging at the shirt it caused me a bout of pain. Seeing that what she was doing wasn''t working she took the scissors and cut the shirt around the wound so that it would be easier on me. While reaching for the rubbing alcohol April said, "Brace yourself and try not cry because this is going to sting bad." I felt like she was trying to rub the pain in my face or it might have just been my imagination. April looked me in the eyes waiting for me to give her the confirmation to start. I took in a long deep breath and nodded. She looked at my chest wound then started to pour the rubbing alcohol. For two entire seconds I didn''t feel anything until the pain came in with a vengeance. It felt like I was getting punched in the face repeatedly. I started to breath like I was hyperventilating that just showed how much pain I was in. When I got my breathing under control I looked at April signaling her to remove the remainder of the shirt from my wound. She started to remove it slowly. This time the remainder of the cloth came off easily though it still brought me pain. This novel is published on a different platform. Support the original author by finding the official source. April took a cotton swab, dabbed it in some rubbing alcohol and started to apply it to my wound, cleaning the wound as best as she could. Since there wasn''t any Band-Aids big enough to cover the chest wound at the moment she left it alone for now. After April was done cleaning the wound it was the first time I realized I was shirtless in front of her. I was slightly embarrassed, but I was also proud because I didn''t let my body go even without sports. I had a barely noticeable Six-Pack and my chest had some meat on it. While I was slightly embarrassed April on the other hand had a slight blush on her face. Seeing her blush, I did a little smile which made her turn her face away from me. A couple of seconds later we got over ourselves. It was now time to take care of the biggest problem my leg wound. April took the fluffy bear and put it in my mouth. In doing so she effectively shut me up, even though I wasn''t really talking. Afterwards she started to prep for the inevitable. She touched the dagger getting ready to pull it out. I took the bear out of my mouth just in time before she pulled the dagger out. "Wait give me a minute to prep myself."? "Alright but you have to be fast we don''t want the wound to be infected."? "Yea I''ll be fast."? I took in a deep breath than said status window in my head. Though my stats increased by a small amount from level one to level two it showed that I was getting stronger. I choose to increase the constitution stat right now because it was related to me healing while on the other hand I didn''t really need my mana stat to go up. For my distribution of stats, I choose to put three points into constitution one point into strength and one point into dexterity. Now my stat window was. Status window Name: Jason King Race: Human Age: 20 Gender: Male Lvl: 2 Titles: Madness Health: 30(130) Magic: 100(100) Stamina: 98(120) Strength: 18(10) Endurance: 12(10) Constitution: 13(10) Mana: 10(10) Dexterity: 14(10) Luck: 5(5) Skill(s): Identification, Corpse Garden Stat points: 0 I looked at April, out the fluffy bear back into my mouth then nodded to her to show her that I was ready. April once again touched the dagger, but this time she put a little too much strength in her arms causing it to move a bit. When the dagger moved I felt extremely uncomfortable, it was almost like getting a papercut but two to three times more painful. April apologized before she suddenly pulled out the dagger. The fluffy bear fell out of my mouth for you to hear an inaudible scream. I blacked out for a good five seconds before I got back to my senses. I was in so much pain that I wished the dagger was still in my legs. At the least when the dagger was in my leg I felt uncomfortable, but it didn''t cause a blinding pain. Today just wasn''t my day. April grabbed the rubbing alcohol before I could react pouring into the now open leg wound. I lost my voice during my last scream, so nothing came out of my mouth. I just kept feeling wave after wave of pain. Blood kept coming out the wound, so April reacted fast. She cut the shirt that she prepared earlier then picked my leg up, sliding the piece of cloth under my leg then tying it as hard as she could. This put some pressure on my leg causing the bleeding to go down a bit. After a good three minutes the pain started to fade away. Even then I was by no means comfortable, plus everytime I looked at my leg I felt the pain coming back. Although this was purely psychological the pain I felt was real. In a way this day would be a scar in my mind to overcome or I would amount to nothing. I''ve come to understand that I would prefer to be alive with pain than be dead in a monster''s stomach. With the pain fading I started to feel extremely tired and sleepy, but I kept on fighting it. This wasn''t the time to be laying around. There was still plenty of things to be done. "I can''t move right now, and I honestly don''t want to, so I''ll give you the spatial ring."? After I said this I took off my spatial ring and gave it to April. Although I gave it the spatial ring to April I still felt a little reluctance since the ring was my baby, figuratively of course. "Alright, but I might keep it"? said April teasingly. "I''ll get as much things as I can, if there''s something you want me to get say it now."? "I don''t know if the meats we could get will spoil or not, but I want some bacon, a lot of candy especially some trolli''s and whatever else you could grab. Also, if we can''t get everything we need we could always come back."? April jokingly said, "Why do you always want candy? I''ll get you some fruits and maybe one bag of trolli''s if I feel like it"? While April started walking away to get the things we need I yelled "the sass."? I heard some laughing then "you bet."? Chapter 9: Acting With April going to get the supplies I was left with nothing to do but think. I had already thought of everything that I needed so there wasn''t much I could do. Being bored out of my mind I checked out my chest wound to see that it was healing at a good pace. For some reason I felt that it would be able to heal in at most a day. When I looked at my leg I had the same feeling, but this time the feeling had my leg wound healed in about seven days if I didn''t do too much extraneous exercises. I was still bored and wasn''t one to listen to reason, so I started to try to move my leg. At first, I felt some numbness then the feelings started to come back and with feelings came pain. Before I could do too much damage April came back. "Stop moving so much, don''t you want to heal properly."? "I do but I''m bored and it isn''t like moving would mess it up too much" I said while shrugging. "Stop being difficult and stop moving" said April. "Alright I''ll stop, but did you get all the supplies and some brolli''s?" I said while changing the subject. "Yea, I got everything that we need."? "That''s good in all but did you get some brolli''s?"? "No brolli''s, but I got some fruits."? "By no brolli''s you mean that there aren''t any left or that you just didn''t get some?" I asked semi-seriously. "I mean whatever you want to believe" Said April jokingly. "So, you did get some? Wait don''t tell,,, Tell me."? I was really wanted to know if she got some or not, but the mystery of it drew me in. Anyone who had a sweet tooth would feel the same way I''m feeling now. April looked at me and shrugged. She didn''t say anything which added to the mystery of the entire thing. "Forget about the brolli''s. Oh, yea the spatial ring is kind of cool so I''m going to keep it safe for you"? said April effectively taking my mind off the brolli''s. "Wait your going to do what? I didn''t hear you properly."? April laughed before saying "your.. I mean my spatial ring is kind of cool, so it''s mines forever."? My mind didn''t fully register what she was saying until it came to me. She was just trying to keep my mind off the brolli''s. It was rather effective, it was like she was treating me like a kid who was throwing a tantrum. Great thing I knew her personality a bit or I would really have been like an idiotic kid. Time for some payback. I made myself seem like I was thinking about what she just said then to seconds later put on an angry face. I put my hands up and balled my hands up to make a fist. "Give me back my spatial ring or fight me"? I said in a sinister voice. April had a facial expression that was screaming she didn''t understand what was happening. I was thinking to myself "yea how you like them apples."? Then everything started going south. April started to cry while saying "I was just playing, I don''t even want your stupid ring."? She took the spatial ring off her finger and threw it at me. Before she left she said, "from now on you are by yourself, don''t ever look for me."? I was stunned, how did things turn out this way. Just a couple minutes ago we were playing around and now this happened. I was starting to think she was to emotional, but then I remembered that in a way she was more emotionally strong then I was. Then I started to think that she might have really hurt her feelings. There was no way I wanted to hurt her feelings, I was just trying to get even for all the teasing. I couldn''t let things get worse then they already are. I wanted her to come back, so I said emotionally "wait where are you going, I was just playing around. I didn''t mean anything I said, I just wanted to get you back for all your teasing. Please don''t go."? April stopped walking and turned around with a smile on her face. "I know"? she said. "I was just playing around to, I knew you were joking, I was just calling your bluff"? I said trying to defend myself. While doing air quotes April said, "yea you were calling my bluff, and you were all like doooonnnntttttt goooooo."? I was slightly embarrassed, so I blushed at her portrayal of me. "It was all acting, I didn''t mean anything I said."? "So, if I were to leave right now you would just let me go?"? asked April questioningly. "Yup"? said my male ego. Just like that April turned around and started to walk away. Watching her walk away made me start to curse under my breath. "Wait, don''t go"? I said begrudgingly. Even when I knew she was walking away for show, I still didn''t want her to leave. Especially since the world changed, I didn''t know the next time I would be able to find another human being. For anyone who hasn''t been lonely before would never know the feeling of despair that comes with it. I picked my spatial ring up and put it on my fingers where it rightfully belonged. "Help me up, its getting late. We don''t know what''s going to happen at night so its better to leave now"? I said to April changing the topic entirely. April came up to me and put my arm around her neck and pulled me up. She turned to me and said, "it won''t be that easy to change the conversation. You know you would miss me if I was gone. I slightly blushed again and turned from facing her. "Maybe"? I said in the manliest voice I could possible produce in this embarrassing situation.Love what you''re reading? Discover and support the author on the platform they originally published on. I turned to back to face her and she faced me. We busted out laughing at how ridiculous we were. "I won''t lie I would miss you"? I said after getting the laughter out of my system. "Don''t get all sappy on me, but I would miss you too. Without you who would I get to mess with"? said April with a slight blush on her face. We both laughed one more time before we got going. While walking out the store I started to think that maybe the world changing wasn''t a totally bad thing. Without the world changing it would be near impossible for me and April to get this close and it would take a long time before I would be able to break out of my shell. Thinking about this made me secretly looked forward to the future. I don''t know what the future held, but as long as I was still breathing I would never let my happily life get destroyed. When we walked out the store the humid air hit my face signaling a new chapter in my life. We stopped walking for a couple seconds to bath in the warmth of the setting sun. We were in the month November, so the time had changed causing the sun to set earlier in the day. It was good to know that even when the world was changing their would-be things that wouldn''t change. We started walking back to Aprils place. On the way back, I didn''t feel any creepy presences, so the journey back was safe and uneventful. When we reached the entrance to enter our community, we were once again greeted with the devastating view of dead bodies all around. Before we passed by the bodies we prayed for them once again. I thought to myself when I was feeling better I would give these people a proper burial. Nobody deserved for the corpse to be played with and I hoped if I was to one day die I would be given a proper burial in this cruel world. When we passed by the bodies I suddenly had an epiphany. I came to realize what had cause their deaths. The shadow goblin was the cause when my mind came to the realization I broke out into a cold sweat. Good thing me and April had the chance to kill it. I wouldn''t know what would have happened if the goblin waited until night time to attack us. One thing that April and Jason failed to see on their journey back was that the distance they had to walk back had increased. The earth was getting bigger without them realizing. Finally arriving at Aprils place after having to walk up the long flight of stairs and through the long hall way. April laid me down on her soft comfortable couch. It was good to be back and away from danger. "Are you going to stay here, or will you go back to your place."? I didn''t want to go back to my place, but I also didn''t want to intrude into April space too much, so I was in a dilemma. If I answered yes, I would feel like I was being inconsiderate of our situation, but on the other hand if I answered no I would feel like I was being inconsiderate of the situation, confusing right. Me and April weren''t going out so staying at her place would be strange, but on the other hand I''m injured right now and it would be harder to keep myself alive. It would be great if I could find a way to stay without it being too weird. "Let me get your key to get your clothes and give me your spatial ring so I could get everything else we might need."? There it was a perfect excuse for me to stay without feeling to imposing. "Don''t think too much its safer for us to be closer to each other instead of being so far apart."? And here I was thinking so hard on this topic while April was thinking logically. I should probably stop thinking with my privates and start thinking with my noggin. I took out my keys from my wallet, then took off the spatial ring from my finger and gave them to April. When April left I felt kind of bad for putting her in another potential bad situation, but I also felt some relief. Relying on another person is a stressful thing but being injured in a changing world would be ten times more stressful. When five minutes passed, and April still didn''t come back I was starting to get worried. Another two minutes passed, and she still wasn''t back yet. My worries were starting to get the better of me. I irrationally got up from my comfortable couch and put pressure on my bad leg. The sharp pain made me suck in a could breath, but I didn''t let it stop. April was possibly in trouble and I was the cause of it. My guilt overrode my rationality, so I got up and started to walk. One step on my bad leg sent a shock through my bod, I almost fell down right where I stood. I contemplated whether or not I should keep going. I didn''t think on it too long since I knew April was worth it. The only problem was getting there and probably fighting. The only thing I could think of was to hop there, so I did exactly that. I ignored the pain I felt from every hop and went into the kitchen. I picked out the biggest knife I could find from one of the drawers. I figured a bigger knife would at least give us a semblance of security. I hopped to the door, but as soon as I got there the door started knob started shaking. I thought it was April until the door knob started shaking sporadically. I was scared because this reminded me of your typical scary movie. Unlike scary movies this was real life and I could die if the thing that was trying to open the door was stronger than me, especially since I was injured. My heart started to race and as soon as the doorknob stopped shaking sporadically my heart felt like it was trying to come out my chest. The unknown was truly terrifying. The door started to open I got ready to stab whatever came in. As I raised my knife up I heard Aprils voice calming my nerves. "Wait what are you doing up and why do you have a knife in your hands?"? "I thought that you were in trouble, but never mind that what took you so long?"? "Your place was kind of messy, I just had to clean a bit. Anyways I got all the clothes you might need."? I was slightly speechless, but then again, I was a messy person who wouldn''t clean unless having to. "You do know we would probably have to leave this place, so why would you clean it?"? I asked. "That might be true but having something to do keeps my mind off of what''s happening"? April answered with a faraway look in her eyes. I patted her shoulder and said, "As long as I''m with you, you won''t have to worry about not having anything to do." We both had a great laugh and April was now cheered up. After this small incident April brought me into her bathroom to take a shower, while she went to fix something for us to eat. While taking a shower I was in pain, but I paid more attention to the strange feeling of taking a shower in a girl''s bathroom. It wasn''t something spectacular, but it was extremely clean compared to my bathroom. After my shower I put on some clean clothes and hopped my way into the kitchen. I tried to help April with the cooking, but she shooed me out the kitchen. With nothing to do I naturally started to use my phone. While using my phone I had a sudden idea to use identify on it. Smart phone Attack power: 1 Durability: 5(5) Description: One of humans technologically advanced equipment''s Expiration: 2 days I was confused when I saw the extra description of an expiration date. I''m pretty sure in the games I played there wasn''t an expiration date. There were games that had restrictions on equipment uses but never an expiration. Seeing this made me kind of worried, so I checked all the other electronics and it said the same thing. Then I checked on a flashlight I found laying around and it didn''t have an expiration date. It all came to me this was now a world where we wouldn''t have all the technologically advance equipment. We would only have the bare minimal to survive. I didn''t feel great finding this out, but I also wasn''t discouraged. As long as we had a chance to survive it would be enough. Around seven thirty April was finished with the food, but we didn''t eat until she was done showering. It was a first time in a long time since I ate with another person, so I didn''t mind the wait. After we were done eating we talked about nothing in particular and watch some movies. Around ten thirty we called it a night. Just before I fell asleep I heard a voice in my head. [The world has changed and so will the inhabitants with it. Humans were once the apex predators, but now you will become the ants you always were, or will you rise up and become the APEX PREDITOR that you were meant to be, or will you die a pitiful death as a stepping stone for the rise of power of others.] My first thought was such a domineering voice and before I could think of anything else I fell asleep. During my sleep I felt the same feeling as when the shadow goblin was following but ten times more powerful. Chapter 10: Beaten up I tried waking up, but it felt like I was trying to wake up from sleep paralysis and couldn''t get up. I screamed "GET OFF MEEEEE"? and woke up just in time to dodge an attack aimed at my head. I turned to see a shadow goblin with a dagger in my pillow. As the goblin retrieved the dagger from the pillow and was about to disappear I jumped on it. We landed on the floor hard. I was in pain, but I wasn''t going to let it get away. Before it could get away I started to choke it. The shadow goblin was putting up a good fight, but if let it go it would attack me again in my sleep. I was not going to let that happen. While strangling the shadow goblin the dagger in its hand fell. There came my chance to kill it faster since strangling it would take too long. I grabbed the dagger from the floor. When the goblin saw me pick it up, it started to panic. It was fighting me so hard that it almost escaped. I tightened my arms around its neck, brought the dagger up and stabbed at its heart. If I could see the goblins face I would see the despair in its eyes. When the dagger landed on the shadow goblins chest the dagger didn''t fully go in. The shadow goblins defenses was very abnormally strong. I didn''t let my failure get the better of me, so I raised the dagger up ready for my next strike. I struck at the goblins chest again and again to no avail. I hadn''t recovered enough strength for my dagger to pierce the goblins heart. The despair in the goblins eyes started to recede with every hit dealt. It was starting to regain its confidence back. The shadow goblin stopped resisting altogether in order for it to save its strength for one last ditch effort to escape. I was stabbing at the goblins heart for the nth amount times. My arms were starting to get tired, while my strength was slowly leaving me. When I saw the goblin stopped resisting I started to think that my stabbing was having an effect. What I couldn''t see was the goblin had a conning look in its eyes. I kept stabbing and stabbing until I felt like I had made some leeway. The dagger pierced the goblins chest enough times for the dagger to go in slightly. I was beyond happy my useless actions were finally getting somewhere. ? Suddenly the shadow goblins body went limp. I was surprised, but I wasn''t sure if the goblin was truly dead or not. I stabbed at its chest a couple more times just in case. .... The shadow goblin had its eyes close bidding its time for its chance to come. The excruciating amount of pain it was feeling kept its mind alert, while giving it an immense amount of hatred. The goblin vowed to give Jason an extremely slow, cruel and gruesome death. The goblin smiled to itself thinking that it was clever. Jason had no way of knowing the goblins thoughts if he did he would be more prudent by calling April to help. .... Seeing the goblin stop moving I thought the goblin was finally near death. I let my arms go from around its neck and pushed the goblin off me. I felt relief when I was finally about to end this night raid. ? As I got up the goblin suddenly opened its eyes and gave me a toothy resentment filled smile. I could see it in its eyes the hatred it had for me. I knew from now on if I didn''t kill it I wouldn''t have a easy time. You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version. As the goblin was smiling maliciously at me it started to merge into the shadows. Just before it could fully disappear April came out of nowhere and smashed its head with the modified wooden club. The goblin screamed a shrill scream dazed and confused about what happened. The goblin was so focused on its resentment towards me that it didn''t see April coming and neither did I. When the pain from getting its head smashed started to fade the goblin looked over to see what hit it. When the goblin saw April, it had despair in its eyes. April brought her club it and slammed it down continuously. BAM! BAM! BAM! Hit after hit after hit landed on the goblins head. The goblin couldn''t do anything except accept the blows and scream. The goblin screams started to get softer and softer and softer until we couldn''t hear its screams anymore. All the while the goblins blood was slashing all over my body. I felt my body getting stronger and my reasoning started to fade. All I could see was endless amount of blood. With one last shred of my will I looked at my hands before screaming. I pounced on the corpse of the dead goblin and started punching. I felt my body throwing out the punches and them connecting, but I couldn''t control my body to stop. It felt like I was a foreigner in my own body. I was capable of thought but wasn''t able to implement it. My uncontrollable body stopped whaling on the dead goblins corpse and turned to face April. I had a crazed smile on my face filled with blood lust. I stared at her for a good two seconds before I pounced at her. April dropped the club in her hands and quickly got into a horse stance. I threw a fast jab aimed at her face. April reacted fast catching my wrist in mid-punch. She maneuvered herself into my guard so fast it didn''t seem humanly possible. Through the whole ordeal my arm somehow ended up on her shoulder with both her hands on my wrist. April never let go of my wrist the entire time. April then pulled my wrist down. With me in mid-motion and the force April applied to my wrist, I was flipped over her shoulder landing on the ground with a BANG. All the air in my lungs were knocked out. I couldn''t breath for a couple of seconds and everything went black. I couldn''t see, and I couldn''t breath so for a couple of seconds I thought I was dead. Until my sense of pain came back with a vengeance. My body was racked with pain. From my legs to my back, all I felt was burning pain. The only good thing that happened from this ordeal was me gaining the control over my body. I raised my arms and told April "I''m good, I''m good, I''m good don''t hit me anymore."? "What happened to you? You started to go all crazy even worse than usual" asked April with some visible concern on her face. In all the novels I''ve read the main character always kept a part of them a secret. That secret usually made them OP compared to their counterparts. At this moment I decided to go against that logic besides the title I gained wasn''t OP enough. It hardly qualified to be useful, so telling April the truth wasn''t against any principles. With nothing holding me back I told her everything. "Do you remember the first time I had killed the goblin and started taking out my anger on it? Well what you didn''t know was when I was doing that I heard this notification sound in my head. When I first heard the sound, I didn''t do anything since I was still beating on the goblin. After beating up the goblin and going to your place I looked at what the notification sound was talking about. When I looked at it I saw that I level up and I earned a title. That title was called madness. The description behind it was kind of vague, but the gist of it was that when a certain amount of blood gets on me I would go crazy. Starting from the time I received that title it never activated until just now when you was caving the goblins head in."? I told April just about everything I knew from the title. "It seems that you can''t control yourself at all when your title activates. I also noticed it didn''t activate when we were fighting in the hallway. Maybe we should see in what situation we have to be in for it to activate" said April after contemplating on the issue. After hearing her out I told her "there is still one problem that well have to resolve to make your plan work. When the title activates I can''t control my body at all and I don''t want to hurt you if I lose control."? "Your sort of right, but as long as I''m with you it won''t matter if you lose control or not I''ll stop you from doing something you''ll regret" said April with a reassuring Smile. Chapter 11: Ordinary days After our talk April and I went back to sleep. It might seem dangerous to just fall back to sleep at this moment, but endlessly worrying for an attack that had a possibility of happening wasn''t worth it. In a situation where the monsters we had to fight were stronger or sleeping by an unknown person I wouldn''t be this care free. I trusted April with my wellbeing, so I wasn''t guarded. The next morning after the night incident I felt my chest wound was healed. I looked down at the area to find that it had already started to scab. When I looked down at my leg the wound there was starting to disappear. It seems that the madness title came with an extra bonus. The speed of my recovery seemed to double, but I wasn''t sure how long after the title activated would the bonus be in effect. It was something that I would have to measure in the future. While getting off the couch I put pressure on my inured leg to find that it didn''t hurt as much as it did before. I started to limp to the kitchen to get something to drink and maybe something to eat. When I opened the fridge, I seen that April had some eggs and I also saw that she had some bread. An idea came to me to make an egg sandwich something that I hadnt had since I left for college. The egg sandwich was relatively easy to make. I had to get a couple of eggs, some spices, a mixing bowl and my personal touch tomato paste. First, I took one spoonful of tomato paste and one egg and put them into the bowl. I took the white stuff out the egg as best as I could then I started to mix them together until the egg turned red. I didn''t sup until all the tomato paste mixed thoroughly into the egg. After that I took the rest off the eggs and mixed them into the mixture. With that done I put the spices into the bowl and with that I was ready to cook it. I thought of just letting the eggs cook like that without me doing anything else, but at the last second, I decided to make scrambled eggs. When I was done cooking the eggs I tasted it and it didn''t taste as good as I wanted it to. It seems that my barely eligible cooking skills was starting to get rusty. It didn''t matter in the end as long as it was edible it was good enough for me plus I found some ketchup, so everything came out ok. As I was looking through the fridge to find something to drink I seen some orange juice. I was slightly reluctant to drink some since a cup of orange juice had way too much sugar in it, but at the end of the day it was slightly good for us. I took two cups and two plates from Aprils dishwasher. I poured the orange juice into the cups and separated the eggs into the two plates. I took the bread and slightly toasted them just enough for them to be firmer. With all that done breakfast was ready to be served. As I was about to get April to eat, she arrived. We had some small talk and just as I was about to take a bite I remembered that I hadn''t brushed my teeth yet. I wanted to eat right now, but hygiene was important. I told April I was going to brush my teeth and she could eat without me. When I was done brushing my teeth I came back to find April hadn''t eaten without me. Her small action brought some warmth into my heart. After we were done eating we talked about what we should do next. I was still injured so I couldn''t do anything at the moment. As for April she was fully healthy and ready to fight. I had also learned from her that she didn''t level up from us killing the silver ranked shadow goblin. I had also noticed that I didn''t get any experience for killing the shadow goblin from last night. It seemed that we weren''t able to get experience from team kills. It was a peculiar situation, but we could always solve that another day. After our discussion we looked on the web to see if there were any new leads we could follow. We didn''t find anything noteworthy. With nothing else to do we talked and watched some tv.If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. A couple hours later April made us some lunch. After lunch I told April she shouldn''t worry about me and should try to level up as much as she could. She tried to argue, but she knew that siting around wouldn''t help our situation much. Without strength we could die in the blank of an eye. When I finally persuaded April to leave I was all by myself. I went to the kitchen to get a knife. It wasn''t much for protection, but it was better than nothing. With nothing to do I started to do some auxiliary workouts such as ab workouts, pushups and everything else that didn''t involve my legs. Surprisingly todays workout wasn''t as hard as yesterdays and I also just remembered I wasn''t sore or anything. With my workout done I played some games on my phone and watched tv. April came back about five hours later. She told me about her experiences and that there wasn''t much monsters left in our apartment buildings if not none at all. She also explained that she didn''t find any people in the places she searched. It was kind sad, but I knew we would find at least one person. Afterwards we had dinner, watched some more tv and called it a day. .... There weren''t any assassination attacks at my life last night and I woke up to April making breakfast. We ate the pancakes she made with some cereal on the side. We made some small talk before we got to the main issue. "My leg doesn''t hurt as much anymore and I should be able to walk. It will take me a day or two to start running again, but until then I won''t be able to help you much."? I said effectively changing subjects. April answering back to me saying "that''s alright I should be fine by myself for a couple of days. Don''t worry about me just think about healing up."? "The monsters by us don''t seem to be all that strong, so I think we should bury some of the bodies outside."? "I already started burying some of them yesterday, but there are still a lot of bodies left. Are you sure you will be able to work?"? Asked April. "I should be fine and if I can''t work anymore I''ll stop."? We waited about thirty minutes before we went to bury the bodies. As I was going down the stairs my leg was slightly hurting, but it was durable considering the circumstances. Walking outside of the apartment building I seen that the apartment building in front of us seemed to be further away or was that just my imagination. I didn''t know the answer, so I shrugged it off. While outside April gave me a shovel. I wondered to myself where did she find a shovel from. Once again, I didn''t know so I shrugged it off. It wasn''t important anyway as long as we got the job done who cares. As we started walking to find a place to bury the bodies I once again noticed that everything seemed further away then usual. I knew for a fact that I wasn''t imaging things. The more we walked the more the feeling became apparent. I turned to April and asked, "Is it just me or does everything seem to be further away?"? "I noticed yesterday, but compared to yesterday everything is actually further apart. At the rate that this is happening the earth might actually double to triple in size"? answered April. "As long as it doesn''t affect the foundation of the building were in, it won''t matter as much"? I said after contemplating a bit. After we were done talking we found a nice plot of land with no buildings to obstruct us. We started to dig a whole that was about ten feet long and three feet deep. It took us a good two hours to get the job done. With that done we went back to Aprils place to get some gloves and went to the leasing building two apartments down to get some antiviral facemasks. We did this to combat the stench that was coming off the bodies. Being in the sun for a couple of days was doing a number on the bodies. When we started moving the bodies to the hole we found that it was taking a long time with small results. April stopped us to go get two wheelbarrows. When she came back with them it then clicked where she found the shovels from. It took us one plus hour to get all the bodies from around are small community. It took another twenty minutes for us to fully bury them. After we were done we did a small prayer for them hoping for them to have a better life if there was an afterlife. We were done with everything we set out to do, so me and April split ways. She went to find some monsters to beat up while I went back to her place to rest up. About two hours later she came back with a happy mood. I asked her "what she was so happy about?" April answered, "I leveled up to level three." She was super happy, and I was happy for her. I didn''t know how much monsters she had to kill to level up and I didn''t ask since there wasn''t really a need to. A couple hours after April came back it was time to call it a night. Chapter 12: You havent finished it [Today marks the beginning of a new age where the common man can become a king and a king into a common man. The choices you make could lead you to victory or to your untimely death. There are plenty of opportunities in this new land don''t let your cowardice stop you from being the best of the best. WELCOME TO THE AGE OF CHANGE] I was awaking by the arrogant voice. It seems that know the sick reality was truly about to begin. I can''t say that I wasn''t slightly worried because I was worried. The future wasn''t certain unlike three days ago where I would just have to finish college, get a stressful job, get married, have kids and die. It was a simple life that I took for granted earlier, but I couldn''t stop my excitement from coming out. I could possibly become a god like existence in this new world. ? While in my excitement I thought of the words the voice said, "a new age where the common man can become a king and a king into a common man."? In the pre-apocalyptic world, the common man was the working class where they had to work just to scrape by with their lives. They couldn''t have the luxury''s that the rich class had. Now was the working-class chance to rule over the rich class. The only thing I hope for the ''common man'' was for them to come out of their subservient views about life. They should learn that money wouldn''t mean anything in this new world only strength would matter or at least for now. I had nothing against rich people as a whole, but there were people that I would love to kick down a peg, especially the second-generation hedonist. The hedonist were the kids of rich people who were lucky to be born in a rich family and where the ones who abused that power. The fact that there was a chance for them to become the lower class put a smile on my face. Let''s see how they would live without a silver spoon in their mouths. Getting away from my dark thoughts I vowed to get strong enough to never ever be someone''s lackey. I would use my own strength to stand out in this world or die trying. I smiled to myself after confirming my thoughts. The voice made me become wide awake with no more sleep in my eyes. It was time to get up and get about with my life. I got up, stretched a bit, scratched my butt a bit, and went to brush my teeth. When I reached the bathroom, I pulled my pants down to pee, but before that I always flipped the lights on. When I touched the light switch, nothing happened. I flipped it a couple more times just in case it was a fluke that it didn''t work the first time. No matter how much I tried the lights didn''t come on. Then it hit me, our grace period was over and know there wasn''t going to be anymore power. My brain was so slow in the morning that I forgot that there was a grace period and I didn''t notice I was able to walk perfectly fine. People say that ignorance is bliss and guess what it truly is until it cost you dearly. I finished with all my bathroom business to meet up with April in the kitchen. "Powers out, so no cooked breakfast for us. Take out the milk from your ring and some apples. With that we should have an OK breakfast" said April when she saw me getting out the bathroom. I took out a gallon of milk plus the apples. They were just as cold as when we first put them in the spatial ring. Two days ago, after we learned that the power would go out sooner than we thought we experimented with the spatial ring to find out that everything we put in it retained their properties. With this discovery April went back to Walgreens and took as much milk as she could. We had about thirty gallons of milk, a couple packs of water, a couple bags of fruits, a couple bags of vegetables and other foods in the spatial ring plus the silver goblins corpse. It might seem unhealthy to put the corpse close to the food, but that wasn''t a problem. I learned if I put a certain amount of mana into the spatial ring I was able to somehow isolate the corpse from the food. The solution came just in time since I didn''t want to throw away the goblins corpse. This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience. I wanted to try out the skill corpse garden, but I couldn''t right now. The earth was still expanding and it didn''t seem like it would stop anytime soon plus I didn''t have any seeds to plant with the corpse. "We will have to secure some supplies later on, but most importantly we will have to take care of the monsters around us to be safer. I''m not sure if there are any survivors in this community, so we will have to clear all the apartments just in case and maybe while doing so we could maybe find a grill or something to cook on" said April. "Yea I think that a good idea. I''m more or less healed so I should be able to help. I suggest you train your shadow leap or try to improve it"? I said after some thoughts. "Yea I started training it, but the skill mastery is going up slowly. It should take some time before it improves"? said April. "Oh, I didn''t know there was a skill mastery, but I think outside of skill mastery you should try to find a way to make the skill yours"? I replied back to April. "I also thought about doing that, but it is easier said than done. I wanted to observe some shadow goblins for some clues, but I haven''t really seen that much of them. To improve the skill outside of skill mastery is something I''ll have to think about in the future"? replied April. "That seems just about right. I guess the only thing we could do right now is clear out the goblins and slowly explore outside"? I said back. "We should wait about thirty minutes before we go out" said April. I agreed by shaking my head. For the next thirty minutes we spoke about nothing in particular abiding our time until we had to leave. When the time finally came for us to leave we took everything that we would need. I also took out all the water packs from the spatial ring to make some place for anything we find. Just in case we would need more space we took a bookbag each. With our clubs in hand and our bookbags on our backs we were ready to take on the world. We looked at each other and smiled knowing that we would come back safe. I opened the door for us letting April out first before closing the door. While doing so I wondered if the old rule of ladies first still applied. In a few of the light novels I''ve read when the world was going through an apocalypse people''s morale''s went down the drain. They raped and pillaged everything in sight not thinking about the consequences of their actions. When I''ve read those novels I always felt that there was some truth to those words. Without rules I believed that people would follow their instincts instead of their brain. I hoped that I was wrong in my deductions, but from what I''ve learned about people behaviors I was most likely right. I just hoped that I was wrong. "Are you coming?" asked April. "Yea"? I answered back. We sounded like the ending of every show that ever ended. To top it off I closed the door then turned around and touched it with longing knowing that it was an end to an era. I laughed at myself thinking about the clich?? moments. "Are you coming?"? asked April once again. I ran up to April before saying "I''m here, I''m here, I''m here. Just couldn''t help doing a goodbye scene."? "What are you talking about?"? "You know on the last episode of ''Friends'' when they had to say goodbye for the last time."? "I never got around to finishing that show, so what happened in the end?"? "You never finished ''Friends''! I have to show you it when we get back... Wait nevermind we don''t have anymore electricity. F*** you should have told me that you didn''t finish watching it, we could of binged it."? April shrugged her shoulders before saying "It was an OK show and I''ve seen better, but really I have never truly finished a show all the way through."? "Really not even one show? Well that sucks, but for most shows you didn''t miss much. Even I only finished around three shows. Anyways what usually happens in the end is that they have a heartwarming scene where the cast says all their goodbyes. They usually hug at the end and one icon scene for me is when they close the door for the last time and look at the door with some kind of longing."? "It kind of seems a bit to sad"? said April. After thinking about it for a moment I answered "it honestly is. Watching one of your favorite shows end is never a good feeling, but if you think about all the good episodes that aired you''d know that it was worth it."? We became quiet for a moment lost in our thought. As we got out the apartment building the sunlight hit our faces warming up our bodies and effectively bringing up our moods. "Do you want to work together or alone?" asked April. "I''m still not one hundred percent yet, but I should be enough to handle the goblins."? "Alright we''ll do that, but we''ll have to stay close enough to each other to get help"? said April. "That''s fair."? After some discussions we decided to start with the back of the community. Arriving in the back I seen about twenty to thirty buildings. In all honesty I thought it would be less then again, I''ve never gone to the back. There was never a need to go in the back. The school shuttle picked us up in the front, the big garbage thingy was in the front, and I didn''t really have any friends so going to the back wasn''t a priority. Chapter 13: Aprils time to shine After a quick discussion we choose the two closest buildings to us. The building I choose had more sunlight going inside of it, whereas April choose the building where there was more shade in order to train her shadow leap skill. We bid each other adieu and went to our respectable buildings. As I reached my building I felt a slight chill, but it was so small and unnoticeable that I almost thought that I was imagining things. Then I thought to myself "maybe I still wasn''t ready to fight again, maybe I wasn''t cut out for this, maybe I should let April do all the fighting from now on." The more I started to think the more I was psyching myself out and the more I started to let my fear of pain overrule me. My face started to get darker and darker as I let my thoughts run wild. I didn''t want to be a coward, I didn''t want April to be fighting all by herself, and I didn''t want to be taking care of all my life without accomplishing anything. The more I started to think along these lines the more resolve I started to build up. With my confidence going up my fear started to clash with it. A battle was going on in my head should I be a coward, or should I man up. My body started trembling with my indecisiveness and a small tear started to trickle down my eyes. I thought back to this morning when I was looking down on the second-generation hedonist and I couldn''t help but feel bitter about myself. At least the second-generation hedonist knew who they are and wouldn''t stop until they got what they want. My body slowly stopped shaking when I thought of this and my grip on my club tightened. I didn''t want to be useless and I won''t be useless. If the hedonist could do all they can for what they want why couldn''t I do the same. I slowly closed my eyes and tilted my head towards the shy. I stayed there for three seconds before I truly let all my fear seep out of me. Then I slowly opened my eyes and took a deep breath I let it out just as slowly. I opened my mouth one more time and did a manly silent roar and with that I was ready. I took one unsteady step, then one slightly more confident step and the third step had all my resolve and just like that I felt like a change man or a slightly less afraid man. As long as I wasn''t too afraid I wasn''t to choosy about the details. As I got in the building complex there was an ordinary goblin looking at me with an ugly mug on its face. I silently smiled to it knowing that I was going to make it my b****. I looked at the club in my hands and dropped it I wasn''t going to need it for this fight. If I wasn''t being cocky with confidence I would have noticed where my earlier chill came from, but it alluded me. As I dropped the club the thing scurried away. When the club hit the floor, I got in a taekwondo-ish stance with my left leg in front and my right leg spaced back accordingly. My left arm was relaxed and my right arm slightly protecting my chest. In retrospect I wasn''t that good at taekwondo and I wasn''t that good at fighting, but I was planning on using the goblin as a living training doll, so it didn''t matter. I wanted to do a taunt with my arms like they do in the movies, but it would ruin the whole aesthetics of my stance. I slowly moved forward without coming out of my stance. The goblin looked at me waiting for me to get close enough to get clubbed. It started staring at me menacingly with a smug look on it face. I lost all my cockiness at the moment and knew to take the fight seriously. When I got close enough for the goblin to lunge at me I stopped and stared right into its eyes. I wanted it to intimidate it into making the first move. The goblin wasn''t having any of it. It stared back at me without blinking waiting just like me. We stayed looking at each other for thirty seconds without doing anything. My legs were starting to burn from the inactivity. I wanted to move at this point, but I didn''t want to make the first move. While I started to slightly focus on my pain the goblin sensed that I wasn''t fully focused and lunged at me. Usually the way the goblin attacked was by smashing the club down, but the goblin swung the club at me like it was doing a hook like punch. I was caught off guard, but I still had a good head on my shoulders. As I saw the club coming my way I didn''t panic. The stance I was in gave me a lot of mobility and without the club in my hands I was going to use all of it. I quickly jumped back and as soon as I landed I brought my left shoulder into my body leaving a small part of my back exposed. At the same time the club was homing in and homing in it did. The blow landed on the exposed part of my back. I tried moving my body in the direction the club hit me in in order to lessen the impact. The plan was a slight success, but I was still hit. The impact made me lose my balance and with my balance gone my face was almost greeted by the floor. I put my right arm under me just in time to protect my face. When I caught my bearings, I rolled out of the way just in case the goblin was going to attack me once again. While I was rolling I landed on the place the club landed on and I groaned. I didn''t let the pain deter me and kept on rolling. When I was far enough to a place where I felt safe I got on my feet as fast as I could. As I straightened myself out I saw the goblin was trying to steady itself. I guessed that swinging the club at me the way it did was something new it just learned and wasn''t proficient at it yet. I waited for the goblin to steadie itself before we initiate round two. ? When the goblin steadied itself, it pointed at me and started laughing. It was laughing so hard that it dropped the club from it''s hand and started holding it stomach. I didn''t know why it was laughing, but for some reason I felt crunchy. The longer the goblin laughed the worst my mood became. "Stop laughing and take this seriously"? I yelled at it not knowing if it understood me or not. The goblin stopped laughing and looked at me like I had something on my face and started laughing again. The goblin fell to the floor and started rolling while still laughing at me.This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it "thbdf jdbfsf uejns jened"? I felt so crunchy I spoke gibberish. When I had enough of the goblin I turned around and that was when I seen something that made my blood run cold. ..... One building over. "Stupid Jason he''s still injured and acting like he doesn''t need help. Hmph watch me ignore him when he calls me. Hmph getting me all mad in stuff."? As I walked towards the building I started to calm down. I had to give Jason a piece of my mind when I see him after this. When I reached the entrance to the building I put my bookbag and the club down. I opened the second zipper part of my bag to take out two daggers. The daggers were from the silver-shadow goblin we killed last time. I checked the dagger to see if the durability went down. Sharp Dagger Attack power: 17-20 Durability: 42(50) Description: Small sharp but crude dagger made by the goblin race for the leaders of the shadow goblins. The dagger had a bigger attack power than the clubs that Jason worked on. It made sense considering the fact that this was a drop item from a silver ranked goblin. As I held the daggers in my hands I felt slightly uncomfortable. I hadn''t used weapons to attack anything before three days ago. I was always taught that my body was the best weapon. Until know I would have agreed without a doubt, but from the goblins that I have fought so far, my attacks didn''t do as much damage as I would like. The good thing was my body would eventually reach a level people couldn''t imagine in the previous world. So, I took solace in the fact that I would endlessly improve until the day I die. As I approached the building I evened out my breathing and took steady steps. From the first time I killed a goblin I started to get some apprehension and the best way for my anxiety to go away was to even out my breathing. I felt like for every breath I took some baggage was lifted off my shoulders and gave me strength to move on. When I first stepped into the building my eyes hadn''t adjusted yet, so I didn''t see anything in front of me. When my eyes finally adjusted I saw two goblins side by side staring at me with murderous intent in their eyes. I discarded all my anxiety at this point. Nothing mattered other than finishing the two goblins off as efficiently as possible. I took a deep breath and breathed out now I was ready for the fight. I took my first step then another until I started jogging towards them. They two goblins saw my actions and bolted towards me. As we were about to clash I looked under me to see that there were enough shadows around. Both goblins smashed their clubs in my direction and I yelled [Shadow leap] in my head. As the club was coming closer and closer to my head I started to sink into the shadows just as fast. BOOM! BOOM! was all I heard when the club landed just where my head was a few nano-seconds ago. I was shaken up a bit by both the sounds and the hit. Even though it seems like I escaped unharmed It was far from the truth. I felt like some blood was congested in my chest. I didn''t escape out of the range of the attack fast enough. I guess Jason was sort of right I had to improve this kill and make it my own, but I would never tell him that he was right. I discarded my useless thoughts for the moment and breathed out relieving me of the pain in my chest. While in the shadows I couldn''t help but look down and all I saw was an endless amount of darkness and when I looked around me I was able to see up to five feet away from me and then an endless darkness surrounding that. It was slightly terrifying not knowing what was below me and what was surrounding me. I didn''t think the skill would harm me would it? I shook of that thought, there was no need to think about something that I couldn''t solve at the moment. I finally focused my mind at the task I needed to do. I looked up to see the confused look on the goblins faces. They started to look around, but didn''t find anything. As the goblins were starting to give up I took a step to go behind them. I accidently looked down when I took the step you wouldn''t know how creepy it felt. I felt like I was about to walk off the top of a ten plus story building and when I took the step that would plunge me to my death I somehow stabilized and was able to walk. This wasn''t the first time I used [shadow leap], but every time I took a step and looked down I felt like I was about to plummet to my death. That was a kink that I would have to solve in the future. By the time I walked behind the two goblins I had two seconds left before [shadow leap] ended. I once again tightened my hands on the daggers. I took a step up and started walking up. I didn''t know the physics behind what was happening, but I didn''t care. After the first two steps I put power into my legs and exploded upwards. As soon as I came out of the shadows I brought both of my daggers up and stabbed them on both sides of nameless goblins ''s neck. The daggers easily sliced into its neck. I pulled the daggers out as fast as I stabbed them in. I quickly stabbed the goblins neck once more just in case the goblin would survive. [Bleed is inflicted on goblin] I took the daggers out of goblin A''s neck and backed away. I would have gone back into the shadows again, but the skill had a thirty second cool down something that I had to find out the hard way. I kept backing up until I was in a safe distance and looked at the two goblins. The goblin that I inflicted bleed on was holding its neck while the blood was seeping out. In the goblins dying breath, it looked at me with pure hatred in its eyes. As it died its eyes were wide open staring at me. I was slightly unnerved, but shook it off just as quick it was either them or me. [Nameless goblin is dead] The last goblin was looking at me with fear in its eyes which was far from the arrogance it had on its face earlier. I could sense that the goblin wanted to run, but it knew if it ran it would die faster. We both became vigilant staring at each othe''s every move. It felt like a cowboy standoff. Then we started circling around each other slowly but eventually getting closer.? I broke the standoff and did a quick dash in the goblins direction. While slightly caught off guard the goblin was unperturbed it brought up its club to block its heart. The goblin brought up the club just in time to protect its heart. My dagger landed on the club causing me to injure my wrist slightly. I was so focused on the task at hand causing the pain to go over my head. The goblin was visibly relieved that it blocked my attack becoming slightly complacent. I guess it didn''t register I its brain that I had two daggers. I let go of the dagger that was stuck in the club and used my other hand to slash at the goblins neck. Though complacent the goblin never let go of its vigilance and was prepared for my next attack. By a hairs breath the goblin pulled its neck back causing the dagger to only nick its neck. The goblin trembled at its near-death experience and wanted to run away. I wasn''t going to let that happened. Chapter 14: Aprils time to shine 2 I used the momentum to do a spinning back kick to the goblin face. The kick landed on the goblins arm that was on the side of the goblins face. I would like to say that the kick sent the goblin flying but that wasn''t the case. Because of the weight of the club and the goblins steady center of gravity the goblin just fell to the ground. When my leg I landed on the floor I slid back. While the goblin was on the floor I had a choice to either end its life now or keep fighting to get more fighting experience. The logical choice was to end the goblins life now, but I wanted to perfect my hold on [shadow leap]. From what I could tell [shadow leap] still had fifteen more seconds until I could use the skill again. The goblin was staying vigilant as it got up from the floor. It seemed to be thinking why haven''t I tried to kill it yet. If I could answer its quizzing gaze I would say that you are only alive for me to improve my skills. As dark as that may sound it was logical to want to improve myself. While we were having another stare down I was starting to count down the seconds to use the [shadow leap] again. While counting the seconds I saw the goblin was staring to clench and unclench its hold on the club in its hand. The goblin was giving off the feeling that it knew something bad was about to happen. Before I had time to think the goblin was already starting to dash at me. As I was preparing to maneuver around it, the goblin suddenly stopped and threw its club at me. I quickly moved out the way of the club and when I thought I was in the clear the goblin pulled something out of nowhere and threw it at my face. I reflexively closed my eyes to avoid the thing from going in my eyes. As I brought my hand up to wipe the things from my eyes I felt some sticky substance on top of it. Then I tried to open my eyes and they wouldn''t open. The sticky substance wouldn''t let me open my eyes. Usually in this situation the fear of the unknown would start to set in, but If I showed fear the goblin would most likely kill me right there. On the other hand, if I kept my cool the goblin would hesitate to take action. Then I remembered the goblin just threw the club it had at me and should have landed about ten to fifteen feet away. With the buffer of the goblin being weaponless I got into a stance that would protect my vitals. I perked my ears trying listen to what the goblin would do next. I kept on waiting, but nothing out of the ordinary happened. I thought maybe the goblin was trying to escape. If my eyes were open I would see the goblin was escaping as quick and quiet as possible. I took one step forward to conform my thoughts and that was when I heard footsteps running away from me. I wanted to laugh at the cowardly smart action of the goblin, but I was blinded at this moment and didn''t know how long I would be this way. If the goblin came back with reinforcements I would be in trouble. In that split second, I made the choice to run after it. As I was running I tried to activate [shadow leap], but it didn''t work. Two seconds later I tried to activate the skill once again, and it worked. As I was merging into the shadows there was a huge eye below me staring at me. As I fully merged into the shadows the thing staring at me closed its eyes going back into its slumber. For a split second I felt a chill that made my body feel cold to the bone and a split second it was gone as fast as it appeared. If I wasn''t blinded at the moment I wouldn''t have felt the feeling so clearly. Forgetting that I was blinded at the moment I looked down expecting to see something. I seen and felt nothing, but my instincts were telling me using [shadow leap] was a potentially fatal skill not only for my enemies but also for myself. I wasn''t one to forgo my instinct, but I knew that the skill would be helpful to me for a long time and I couldn''t just forget it. I was torn inside, and it wasn''t in my nature to give up, so I had to make a decision. After some thoughts I decided that when I used [shadow leap] to never drop my guard and when I was strong enough I had to explore the mystery beneath. I took my mind off the thing I couldn''t control at the moment to something that I could control now. The goblin was getting away and every step it took I felt it clearly. I never noticed this before maybe being blinded wasn''t so bad after all. I concentrated on the goblins footsteps and started running after it. Without having to worry about hitting an obstacle I was able to run at full speed. As I was chasing the goblin I could feel that for a creature so strong for its size it was pretty slow on its feet. Due to that I was able to catch up to the goblin in four seconds leaving two seconds to spare on [shadow leaps] duration. As I got underneath the goblins running figure I knew what my next action should be. I thought myself to step up and I exploded up. When I breached the shadows, I found out that the goblin was running in the sun which was just perfect. I exited the shadows from the goblins shadow putting me where I wanted to be. Before I could think my body reacted. My right hand with the dagger went around the goblins throat and slit it. Before the goblins blood could get on me I removed my hand. I watched as the goblin took a couple steps forward before it realized its throat was slit. I watched as the goblin put its hands around its neck trying to prevent the blood from coming out to no avail. I watched as the goblin took its dying steps forward trying its best to preserve its life. I watched as the goblin took its last step before falling to the ground to never get up again. I watched the goblin with its last bit of strength to turn to face the sun. I watched as the goblin drew its last breath. I watched all this without flinching not because I was a cold-blooded murder, but because this would be my fate if I didn''t get stronger. The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement. [Nameless goblin is dead] I walked up to the dead goblin and slowly got on one knee. I looked at the goblin face to see that even in its last moments it died painfully. I sighed before closing the goblins eyes for good. It was the best that I who caused its death could do. In the moment of silence, I heard the familiar notification sound in my head. I was confused the about why I was getting a new notification. I had already killed both of the goblins and I had already heard both of the notifications, so why was I being notified? Was Jason in danger? It didn''t seem that way and I hadn''t heard him calling for me. Maybe I leveled up again? No that wasn''t the case I just leveled up and these two goblins wouldn''t be enough to level up again. Was I missing something? I didn''t know so all I could do was check my status window. [new title obtained] [compassionate killer] Name: April O''Neil Race: Human Age: 20 Gender: Female Lvl: 3 Title(s): Compassionate killer Health: 115(120) Magic: 100(140) Stamina: 175(200) Strength: 14(10) Endurance: 20(10) Constitution: 12(10) Mana: 14(10) Dexterity: 23(10) Luck: 7(5) Skill(s): Identification, Shadow leap, Monster cook Stat points: 0 [Compassionate killer]: The person with this title has the ability to efficiently kill their enemies and when their enemies are done has the common decency to have respect for them on their death. +1 Dexterity +1 Mana per level. "Wow I''m a compassionate killer, yes this is what I really wanted... Not."? Although the title I earned was pretty stupid it did come with the added perks to my dexterity and mana. Now I wouldn''t have to worry about adding so many points to dexterity every time I leveled up. If I did would that be a really bad thing? Well I don''t know, and it doesn''t matter right now, so I''m going to let it be. Well it should be time to fight some other goblins, maybe I should go up stairs or find a different building. Nah, going upstairs is closer and I need to get use to the added points in dexterity. There no point in wasting time. As I was about to go back to the apartment building and go up stairs I had a feeling that Jason might be in trouble. Maybe I''m just being paranoid. It doesn''t matter it doesn''t hurt to look. .... There they were just staring at me with their beady eyes. The more I looked at them the more I wanted to run away. I looked behind me to see that I was surrounded. I felt like I caught the hibigeebies my skin felt like something was crawling on me and the more I looked at the things the more my skin felt that way. In front of me was a small army of ten-centimeter-tall daddy long legs. My arachnophobia was coming back in full swing. I didn''t always use to have arachnophobia it wasn''t until about ten to thirteen years ago that I received the trauma. As a kid I wasn''t anywhere near afraid of spiders, in fact I use to just kill them when they got to close. I even use to kill tarantulas and they were big. It was until a faithful night I was sleeping peacefully without a care in the world. Until I woke up for no rhyme or reason. When I opened my eyes there they were an army of small spiders crawling towards me. When I saw the spiders I quickly got up and went on a bed that was near mines and didn''t fall back asleep. It was an illusion conjured up by my mind, but it didn''t make it any less real and frightening. That was the last time I really had a tight hold around spiders now I was just like any other person with arachnophobia. What made my phobia worst was when a daddy long leg had the audacity to crawl down my shirt. "God, I hate spiders with every fiber of my being."? I got out of my day dream and stared at the now silent goblin on the floor. It stopped laughing when it saw the army of spiders. I should have laughed at its misfortune, but I was now in the same predicament. "Get up and get your club and get ready to fight"? I said without knowing whether or not my words went through the goblins skull. I didn''t want to fight those ugly critters by myself, so I made some hand gestures for the goblin to understand what I was saying. The goblin understood my gestures and got up quickly. I was still feeling a bit insecure even with the goblins help. That was when I spotted my club two feet away. As soon as I saw it I knew this would be the best way for me to get out of this situation. I started moving slowly to get my club. The whole time the spiders were just looking at me. When I picked up my club I hurried back to where the goblin was. The entire time the spiders were looking at me without doing anything. I won''t lie the spiders not attacking scared me more than anything. I felt like if they were to move towards me maybe I would discard my fear and fight to the death, but them not moving made the situation seem sinister. As time passed by I was starting to feel my courage leave me little by little. To get my courage back I looked at their stats. Daddy long legs Lvl: 2 HP: 35 Daddy long legs Lvl: 3 HP: 45 While looking at the spiders I saw that they were a mixture of level two''s and level thre''s. By seeing that I started to gain back some confidence until I remembered that there was at least a hundred of them things; and there went some of my confidence. "F*** this, if I die killing the spiders then so be it. At least I died fighting my fears."? I looked at the goblin who was now trembling a bit and pointed for it to fight the spiders behind me while I fought the spiders in front of me. The goblin nodded to me and faced the spiders. I saw the goblin trembling went down a bit as it faced the spiders. I guessed it gain some confidence to fight to the death like I did. We waited for the spiders to make the first move. "Shdjsd nmsa"? was all I heard before the spiders started to move towards us. Usually I would be dense towards what just happened, but being with April taught me to look at the bigger picture. With that I was able to notice that there was a leader amongst the spiders. And again, I would usually be scared out of my mind, but considering the circumstances were a bit dire already, so what would adding a leader amount to. With those thoughts I went in swinging. Chapter 15: Spiders There I was running into an army of spiders, which in my opinion was pretty stupid but what other choice did I have. I tried swinging at the daddy long legs, but it wasn¡¯t as effective as it should be. I did get to hit 2 to 4 spiders at a time. I wasn¡¯t feeling it that was when I tried smashing them. In a way it was more effective. The spider¡¯s defenses were weak in comparison to the amount of health they had. So, when I smashed them they were dying that easily. By smashing I was starting to kill the spiders one by one, but I wasn¡¯t getting anywhere. There were about a thousand plus spiders that weren¡¯t killed yet. I had to resort back to swinging the club. WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! SKRA! SKRA! SKRA! Was all I heard every time I swung the club and every time a spider was hit. If I was a little bit stronger I would have been able to kill the spiders with every swing. With every kill I was starting to get a sadistic pleasure from killing something that plagued me with fear for a long time. Well, that was until I heard ¡°SHSBE SJBSB SJBS.¡± The spiders stop attacking me and some started crawling on the walls and others started to go on the ceiling. I had a blank look on my face before I said with every fiber in my being ¡°I f***ing hate spiders¡±. ¡°SHD SJS SLSKL¡± I don¡¯t know what that stupid ugly leading daddy long leg spider said, but I figured it said, ¡°jump the fool¡± because that was what they did. The spiders on the ground started crawling to attack me. The spiders on the wall started jumping at me. The spiders on the ceiling that were closer to me started falling on me. Though the daddy long legs were pretty small in comparison to my size I swear I could see their ugly fangs staring right at. They wanted to tear me apart. I did what any sane person would do in a situation like this, without a way out. I started swinging the club erratically. This was working for the first five seconds until the daddy long legs started crawling on me. I almost had a heart attack, right then and there. When I say I almost had a heart attack I meant I felt my heart stop beating for a quick two seconds. This was the scariest thing to happen to me in my life. Not my interpretation of a heart attack, but spiders crawling on me. My body started to freeze from the tip of my toes all the way to the last hair on top of my head. I was so frozen up with fear that nothing was working. I might have pissed myself if it wouldn¡¯t have been extremely embarrassing. I felt an innumerable amount of tiny legs crawling on me. They started from my legs crawling upwards. I started feeling tiny nibbling here and there. A spider from the ceiling fell on top of my head then another and another until my head was filled with them. I felt them trying to bite me, but their fangs weren¡¯t strong enough to cause me harm. The spiders seem to understand their biting was pointless. They started using their legs to scratch me. It felt like an itch that I just couldn¡¯t reach. In this case I actually couldn¡¯t move. I wanted to, but my arachnophobia just wouldn¡¯t let me overcome my limits. I kept on trying to urge my body to swat the spiders from my head and from my body. Instead my arms felt like they were moving through molasses. At this point I was losing faith in controlling my body and was about to give up and die. I didn¡¯t see myself losing any health, but I felt it inching away little by little. Just when I was about to lose the last bit of resistance I head left in me something that shook me to my very being happened. One of the spiders that was on top of my head crawled onto my face. I saw its beady eyes looking straight into my soul. I saw its fangs glistering with saliva inching closer to my eyes. At that point I lost it. ¡°Get the f*** off of me KNOW,¡± I yelled with so much force I felt like I was about to pop a vain in my face. I felt something evil and sinister in me snap. I lost all control over my body. I felt my consciousness being pulled back and an animalistic will take over me. I know it was all in my mind, but that was exactly how it felt like. I felt a smile creeping up my face without my control. If I were looking in the mirror I would see a smile more sinister than the devil smiling back at me. My neck started moving to the left then to the right all the time I heard cracking sounds. Then it slowly came back to the center, staying there for half a second before it tilted to the right. My eyes were staring right into the spider¡¯s soul. I think I saw it soul tremble as it looked back into my soulless predator like eyes. The spider tried crawling back on top of my head to escape my gaze, but it was to late. My hand was already zoning onto it. I caught the spider before it could move its legs away. I grabbed its trembling body into my hands and brought it in front of my eyes. I saw it trying to shift its eyes away from mines, but I brought it closer to my soulless eyes. When its gaze landed into my eyes its body went limp. There was no more resistance, no more trying to get away it just accepted its fate just like that. I took the spider away from my eyes and showed a smile to it that was screaming psychopath. The spider started to squirm again, and my smile became deeper and deeper. It was a smile of pure unadulterated violence and evil. I brought the squirming spider closer to my mouth. Then I opened my mouth and snapped the spiders head off with my teeth and started chewing on it and then I swallowed it. I threw the rest of the body on the grown like it was a piece of garbage. If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation. The entire time I watched myself do this the more I became afraid of myself. I would never in a billion years thought I could do something like this without blinking. Well in my offense I wasn¡¯t the one controlling my body which gave me a slight comfort. When I ate the spiders head I wanted to puke and spit the thing out of my mouth, but that didn¡¯t happen. I wasn¡¯t in control of my body anymore. My body turned to face the spiders and I felt the smile creeping back on my face. The spiders started to crawl back trying to get away from what they perceive to be a crazy person. ¡°IBSSj SJBs SJBS,¡± said the leading spider. All the spiders stopped moving back and started to come back to me. My body started to laugh in a cynical manner. I felt my arm tightening around the club and my other hand reached on top of my head and started squeezing some spiders to death. Everywhere that hand went another spider ended up dead. My head looked down and stared at the spiders on my legs. The spiders met my gaze and wanted to escape, but weren¡¯t able to due to the leading spider¡¯s orders. I bent over to have a closer look at them and said, ¡°hi.¡± [Fear stat generated] The spiders were already scared from my past actions and gaze were now shaken up more from me speaking to me. My voice must have sounded like the devil to them. When I heard the notification in my head I didn¡¯t get to hear what it said, but whatever it was made the spiders start to tremble especially the ones that were still on my body. My hands reached out for the daddy long leg closest to me and squeezed it to death. After squeezing the spider to death my hands were brought up close to my face. There I seen some surprisingly looking green blood. I¡¯m not sure if the blood color was due to them becoming part of this sick reality or that their blood was already like this before. Well at that point it didn¡¯t really matter because my hands were brought closer to my mouth. I felt my mouth open and out came my tongue. I licked the green spider blood from my hands. I felt squeamish when it happened. This wasn¡¯t something I would do in my life. I didn¡¯t even eat broccoli until I met April and I still didn¡¯t eat it willingly. I was set in my ways and this wasn¡¯t something that would ever happen. I don¡¯t know what was controlling my body to do these disturbing acts, but I wanted it to stop. If it were my instincts making me do these things then I don¡¯t know what I would do at the moment. If it were another entity in my body doing these actions, then I would have to get rid of it at all cost. I WASN¡¯T going to let anyone or anything get control of my body EVER. I spat out the green blood from my mouth. It seems even without my control I still wouldn¡¯t eat something so disgusting. After spitting out the spider¡¯s blood from my mouth, the creepy smile disappeared from my face and an angry threatening scowl replaced it. The spiders on me and the spiders closest to me started to slowly ebb away again. ¡°IBSSj SJBs SJBS,¡± said the leading spider again. This time the spiders didn¡¯t immediately come back towards me. They were torn between the terror of me and the terror of their leader. When they started to hesitantly comes towards me again it was apparent who was scarier to them. My scowl became deeper, it seems the spiders hurt my body¡¯s pride. It was funny since I didn¡¯t think I would have any other emotions other than pure violence. I was wrong, I felt a blinding rage starting to build up. My hands around the club tightened up and then I heard a crack. It didn¡¯t matter to my body because in the next moment I felt my arm swing the club. Five to seven spiders were hit and were smashed on the wall. Their green blood started flowing down the wall creating a creepy atmosphere. Seeing this the anger in me found an outlet. My body looked at the club in its hand and smiled at it. SWISH! SWISH! SWISH! was heard every time the club was swung and every time the club was swung five to seven spiders were splatted against the wall. The violence was making my body smile again and every time the spiders died I chuckled sadistically. When swinging the club wasn¡¯t enough thrill for my body it started stomping and bashing on them. The hallway was filled with my chuckle. If my body were to turn around it would see the goblin trembling as it fought the spiders next to me. It wasn¡¯t trembling due to the spiders anymore, but trembling from the fear of me. The goblin started to swing its club faster trying to get away from me. Though it did all this the spiders were unending. It was starting to fall into despair, but the thought of getting away from me kept it going. In my consciousness I seen all the violence I¡¯ve committed thus far and honestly was quite happy. I wasn¡¯t happy about the sadistic chuckle or anything like that. The fact that my body was killing the spiders was good enough to give me a smile. I even started cheering for my body to kill them. The spiders saw me killing their brethren they started to lose their fear of me little by little and started to fight back. I wanted to congratulate them for doing something I didn¡¯t have the guts to do. It was honestly stupid, but brave. The spiders were starting to fight back to no avail. No matter how much came to fight me all of them ended dead. But no matter how much I killed there was still an army of them left. Chapter 16: Spiders 2 When I had the feeling that Jason might be in trouble, I listened to my gut feeling. I went back to the apartment building to get my club and my bag. As I was passing by the first goblin I killed today I looked at its hatred filled gaze. I still didn¡¯t feel bad about killing it, it just slightly unnerved me outside of the fight to see its eyes again. I bent down on one knee to observe the goblin up close. ¡°I¡¯m sorry I had to kill you. I hope next time if there is an afterlife for you to live a life where you are safe and protected away from harm. I hope you the best in your new journey.¡± After looking at the goblin for some time these were the words that came out of my heart. I knew that I didn¡¯t have to kill the goblin. I could have let them escape if I wanted to. I had decided against that so these words I said took some invisible weight off my shoulders. As I was about to close the goblins eyes, I felt them let go of their hatred. It might have been an illusion conjured up by my mind to soothe me, but somehow I felt that wasn¡¯t the case. From looking at the goblins face again, I think the goblin had forgiven me for my pass actions. It was weird, how did the goblin hear me? Was he here in spirt form watching over his body or was he able to hear my voice from the beyond? I wasn¡¯t sure, but one thing I did know was that I was forgiven. I closed the goblins eyes and said, ¡°Have a great after life.¡± I got off my knee and stood up. Now that I was done with the goblin I had other things to do. As I walked to my stuff I thought back on the title I just earned. The title deemed me a compassionate killer. I didn¡¯t like the way it sounded. Compassionate killer, what kind of title was that. Other then the way it sounded the description behind it wasn¡¯t too bad, but every time I think of the name it sounds like I¡¯m one of those mass murders who have a fetish for dead bodies. When I think about it I don¡¯t like it at all. The only good thing about the title was the extra points into dexterity and into mana. Now that I think about it, would the same titles give the same rewards? In the case of Jason¡¯s title, he was rewarded extra points into strength and dexterity. At the time he said he received the title he was in a bout of rage and if I think about when people get into compromising situations a boost in speed and strength isn¡¯t an impossibility. However, if someone who usually used their mana to fight would the title have rewarded them a boost into strength. I¡¯m not sure, but it would be highly unlikely. In my case I earned the companionate killer title which gave me a boost for speed and mana. If I look back into the fight the thing I used the most to kill was my speed and since I was training with [shadow leap] my mana. So, an increase into speed and mana was the best choices for a reward. If Jason were to win the title he would most likely get rewarded with strength and speed, right? Maybe I¡¯m just thinking too much, and the titles rewarded are just random. Maybe, but for me to see if my deductions are correct I¡¯ll have to wait for the future to see. When I reached my bag and club I picked them up and walked out the apartment building. While walking to find Jason my mind was preoccupied with distracting thoughts. I was looking at where I was going, but at the same time my mind wasn¡¯t processing what I was seeing. I saw a huge mass of blackness, but I didn¡¯t see the huge mass of blackness. It wasn¡¯t until I was about fifteen steps away from the black mass until my mind started to register what I was seeing. I was ejected from my thoughts when I was ten steps away. ****** When the leading spider heard a sound behind it, it turned around to see a figure walking towards it. It resembled the creature they were fighting. To be cautious the leading 20cm long spider walked further into the hallway just in case the creature was just as ferocious as the one in front of it. The leading spider was slightly intimidated by the savagery the creature in front of it was behaving. Their kind from time to time ate their own, but something else eating their own was a first for it. If the creature had just outright killed them the spider wouldn¡¯t have been intimidated. Added on top of the toothy smile and the sinister chuckle it heard from time to time made it want to escape. If it wasn¡¯t for the fact that they had numbers, the leading spider would have escaped long ago. As the leading daddy long leg went further in it said ¡°saasd dss ehsd¡± to the spiders behind it. With that being said the leading daddy long leg paid attention to the creature in front of it. It was waiting for a chance to deal a deadly blow and eat its adversary. Its mouth started to water thinking of the meal that was in front of it. ****** When I was ejected from my thoughts I seen some thing from the black mass started to come closer to me. I stopped moving when mass got to close to me. The black stopped at the same time to observe me. Then they started moving towards me again without any fear. You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story. The closer they got to me the easier I was able to see what they were. When I saw that it was a mass of spiders I almost screamed until I remembered I wasn¡¯t scared of spiders. Even then this scene was disturbing it was the first time I seen so many spiders at the same time plus they were way bigger than your average spider. I almost turned around there, but I had a feeling Jason was somewhere in the huge mass of spiders. I wanted to help and only hoped he had somehow survived this mess. I turned my focus back to the spiders and checked their information. Daddy long legs Lvl: 2 HP: 35 Daddy long legs Lvl: 3 HP: 45 Daddy long legs Lvl: 4 HP: 55 I observed that they had three different levels and the more I paid attention I got to see the spiders with higher levels were about 2 to 3cm longer than their counterparts. When we leveled up we could enhance different attributes, on the other hand it seems when the spiders leveled u they got bigger. They most likely got stronger to since that was the new trend. My mind started wondering to the future again. If the trend for monsters was to get bigger when they leveled up would we be fighting giants in the future. If so would we grow bigger in comparison or would we stay the same and just be stronger. That also posed a problem the bigger something was the harder it would be to kill. On top of their size if they have abilities they would be even harder to kill. Unless we have something to counter their size the future was looking bleak. When I felt something crawling on my legs. It didn¡¯t feel right it done right felt uncomfortable. As more of the spiders crawled on me the more the feeling became pronounced. I dropped the heavy club I reached the side of my bag to retrieve my daggers. I pulled them out as if I was a main character in a movie and was about to do something amazing. I fixed the daggers in my hands to feel more comfortable with my next action. I stabbed both of my daggers at a frightening speed into the two spiders that were further up my body. Their body squirmed from the unexpected intrusion and before they could do anything else I pulled my daggers out and cut their heads off. A small amount of blood sprayed on my legs. I didn¡¯t bother with it I quickly cut off ten more spiders head before my leg had enough blood on me to make me feel uncomfortable. The blood became viscous and slightly thick after being on me for a couple of seconds. I checked on the daggers to see of there was any blood on the blades to find nothing was on it. Either this was an extremely great blade, or I cut the spiders heads off to fast before it got covered. I wiped the blades on my short just for show before I got back into killing the spiders. Every swipe of my daggers a head was sent flying. Every second another head was added onto the collection. Every time a body went limp and fell of me. I was becoming a spider killing machine. Then everybody that fell to the ground a number of spiders dragged the body off and started to eat it. I didn¡¯t feel anything from killing the spiders and seeing them eat their own made me feel a slight disgust for them. Killing the spiders was starting to become boring and tedious until some spiders started to jump at me. It was becoming more lively. The first spider that jumped at me had caught me unprepared causing it to almost land on my face. I brought my right hand up and prepared to back hand slapped it away. On contact I felt how hard the carapace was causing the back of my hand to sting a bit. I snapped my hand effectively throwing the spider away from me. I looked at the back of my hand to find it red. From how red my hand was turning from that one slap I knew I was being to impetuous. I became more focused with every action the spiders started to take. This didn¡¯t stop me from killing the spiders one by one. Ten seconds after the first spider jumped at me another spider though itself smart and did the same thing. This time I was prepared I quickly stopped swiping at the spiders below me, repositioned the dagger in my hand and stabbed into the spider¡¯s abdomen. It was trembling from the pain in its abdomen until I brought my other hand over and cut its head off. I was really starting to love the sharpness of the daggers. They were great killing companions. Five seconds later a third daddy long leg jumped at me this time I wanted to practice my accuracy. As it jumped I positioned my hand facing down with my thumb on the bottom and the dagger facing down. I swiped at what I perceived to be its neck. I felt like the attack was about to cut the head off, but I was off the mark and only cut the abdomen. I was disappointed before I flipped my fingers repositioning the dagger in my hand and another spider was stabbed. My other hand finished off cutting the head of the jumping spider. Both the head and the body hit me before they fell to the ground to be eaten by its brethren. Every time a spider jumped at me I repeated the same action. And every time my first attack was slowly coming closer to its mark. The twenty fifth time a daddy long leg jumped at me I timed my attack just right and I was rewarded with a spider¡¯s head being lobbed off. I was so happy with my success I missed my mark with the next two jumping spiders. I stopped being complacent with only one victory and started to focus again. There wasn¡¯t anything better than progress. With every step I took I was killing spiders by the dozens. There would be a trail of dead spiders in my wake if the spiders themselves weren¡¯t so savage and eating their own. Along the line of my continuous killing I heard a notification that I leveled up. I ignored it and kept on killing.
