 Chapter One - World Announcement

    Chapter One - World Announcement


    The sound of clicking seemed to dance as his fingers moved smoothly across the keyboard. His right hand held the mouse as it dashed in different directions. His eyes were focused on the screen, not even noticing the beads of sweat on his forehead.


    The sweat slowly crawled down his forehead until it reached his eye. He felt a burning sensation in his left eye causing his left hand to come up and rub it.


    ¡®Fuck!¡¯ He cursed as he saw his character get stunned.


    His life bar was at half but the other guy only had 10% left. He knew it was over as his character failed to dodge the [Fear] status.


    A loud bang echoed in the room as his hand slammed against his computer desk.


    He could only watched as his toon was perma-stunned. His hp slowly trickling away.


    [You have died.]


    [World Announcement - Player Yuu-Mi has been slain by Drago.]


    The announcement was repeated three times as the world chat blew up with various comments. Some cheered others were disgusted they bet on the wrong person.


    Yuu-Mi the undefeated, the conqueror has finally lost to a challenger. For the first time ever he has failed to survive.


    [World Announcement - Player Yuu-Mi has accepted the terms to be deleted. Yuu-Mi has left the realm of Shadows.]


    A single tear came down Yuu-Mi¡¯s face as he could not decide to laugh or cry. He was glad he finally died, but upset that it was caused by his own doing.


    His computer screen went black, but so did his vision.


    His upper body dropped down while his face hit the desk.


    ¡®Wait, what?¡¯ Yuu-Mi questioned himself as he could not figure out what was going on. One moment he his character was deleted and now he was seeing darkness? That did not make any sense to him.


    What seemed like eternity to him was actually only five minutes. His vision returned and he found himself lying in bed.


    As his eyes adjusted to the light, Yuu-Mi noticed that this was not his bed. It was not even his room!


    He had a king sized bed with a game of throne comforter set. This was a twin sized bed with a plain cover. There was a bed above his, two desk that held papers and a laptop. Finally he saw a cabinet that was open with clothing just thrown around.


    The room was small, not even a quarter the size of his own room.


    Yuu-Mi leaned up but suddenly he was attacked by a painful throbbing in his head.


    ¡®Fuck!¡¯ He thought to himself.


    ¡®Where am I? What is going on?¡¯


    While he endured the pain and walked over to a desk, he noticed his name was written on one of the papers. It seemed to be a science paper, that was not even completed.


    ¡®Why¡­ no this is definitely a dream.¡¯ Yuu-Mi thought to himself as he pinched himself trying to wake up.


    ¡°Ouch!¡± He screamed as he felt the pain and rubbed his cheek.


    The room door opened up as a young man walked in with a towel in his white hands. His upper body was bare revealing his well-developed muscles. His hair dripping wet as water fell to the ground, and his black eyes contained much surprised when he saw Yuu-Mi.


    ¡°Hey man, didn¡¯t think you¡¯d be awake already. How you feeling?¡± He asked Yuu-Mi as he walked over to the cabinet and grabbed a black shirt.


    ¡°My head is in pain, I can¡¯t even remember what happened last night.¡± Yuu-Mi told him the truth. He really couldn¡¯t remember what happened to him last night, because he was never here in this room in the first place!The genuine version of this novel can be found on another site.     Yuu-Mi was hoping to gain a little information from this guy before him.


    Hearing what Yuu-Mi asked the male started laughing.


    ¡°Figured as much Yuu. You should not have taken 10 shots last night man. I knew after that you were done-zo. I had to drag you up here to room all by myself, Ben and Carter were not much help either.¡± He paused as he pointed to a bookbag on a wooden chair.


    ¡°Pass me that will you bud?¡± He asked Yuu-Mi.


    Yuu-Mi grabbed the velvet colored bookbag and tossed it.


    ¡°Thanks man. Drink some water and sober up, Ben should be coming back soon. Don¡¯t worry about class, I told the teach you were sick. So if she ask, you were sick.¡±


    The young man started walking towards the door but suddenly stopped and smiled at Yuu-Mi.


    ¡°Right, Jade was totally eyeing you last night and she even asked about you today. I¡¯d say give her a call if you know what I mean.¡±


    Saying that, the young man left out of the room.


    ¡®Who the hell is Jade?¡¯ Yuu-Mi asked himself.


    He did not really care. He was a lone wolf who took the gaming world by storm. Even if this was a different world, or some weird ass illusion that was caused by him losing his character he did not care anymore. Might as well go with the flow and live life as this Yuu-Mi.


    He looked at the laptop on the desk and checked it out. The specs on this thing were terrible, he could never be seen in public with this ancient machine.


    He would be surprised if he could even gain 2 fps by playing one of the lower end games. Best he could do is lag his way to the top.


    Yuu-Mi set the crappy laptop back down and sighed. His hope of gaming again went down the toilet.


    The throbbing sensation came back again as Yuu-Mi grabbed his head.


    He could not endure this pain any longer. Walking out of the room he was already in front of the kitchen. No one would keep medications in the kitchen, his first choice was to check the bathroom.


    The bathroom door was already open. He walked in and went through the cabinets until he found a bottle of Advil. Opening it up, he grabbed two and threw them into his mouth.


    Running the water from the sink, he cupped his hands and put them under the water. After he drank it quickly as he swallowed the two pills at once.


    [Announcement Humans. Your daily lives are too boring that we can no longer watch. Therefore we will play a little game to entertain ourselves as well as you guys. Don¡¯t worry, anyone and everyone is able to play.]


    [The rules are simple, survive through ten days. Everyday is something different, but with everyday you survive the threat to your life increases.]


    [Game begins in five minutes, I suggest you get indoors.]


    [Oh, this is not God. He went away on vacation, neighborhood villain taking over for ten days. Pity we can¡¯t hang out any longer.]


    Yuu-Mi was left with his jaw wide open. He looked at the bottle of Advil once again to make sure this was not something else. He must have been drugged!


    However, no matter how he looked at it the pills were normal from what he remembers.


    He calmed himself down and sat on the toilet.


    ¡°Yuu! Tell me you heard it too and i¡¯m not going crazy!¡± A voice yelled out as they ran into the room.


    ¡°Yuu? Where are you man.¡± The voice asked.


    ¡°Taking a shit, what do you want?¡± Yuu-Mi replied from the bathroom.


    A figure rushed towards the bathroom and opened up the door. His sandy brown hair and hazel eyes were the first thing Yuu-Mi noticed as he poked his head through.


    ¡°Bro, privacy?¡± Yuu-Mi said as he glared at the guy.


    ¡°Who cares? We fuck the same girls, we drink from the same pot. Just tell me you heard that voice as well and i¡¯m not going crazy.¡± The young man said.


    Yuu-Mi thought back about the voice he just heard a moment ago. He was planning on ignoring it but turns out someone else heard it as well. Should he tell him he did or lie?


    He opted to tell the truth.


    ¡°Yeah, I heard it. Sounds like a joke, don¡¯t fall for it.¡± Yuu-Mi replied.


    [World Announcement - Day One of the Apocalypse is now starting. Due to your inferior abilities you may draw or roll for one random class. Hopefully you get something useful or else¡­ hehehe]


    [Ding! You¡¯ve Gained roulette wheel.]

    The wheel showed Yuu-Mi a list of classes, by each class name was a percent. Everyone of them said seven, so it seemed to be even. The wheel started moving, it started slowly down as it looked like it was going to stop on [Crusader - Hero of Justice]. However, the arrow went past it to the next class [Duelist - Cards of Fate].


    [Congratulations! You¡¯ve gained your first class. Duelist - Cards of Fate is a special type of summoner class.]


    [Duelist - Cards of Fate: You are a duelist who relies on luck and skill to win each battle. You¡¯ve gained the [Anime] deck.]


    [Note: As a card summoner you can choose to view your deck. When you summon a card, you always summon from the top of the deck. Everyday your deck is shuffled.]


    [Rules of a Duelist: You start out the day with five cards. Every monster slain gains you one more draw. If you run out of cards before the day ends you are defenseless.]


    The young man standing at the bathroom door looked at Yuu-Mi with a strong gaze.


    ¡°What did you get man? I ended up rolling Arsonist.¡±


    ¡°I¡¯m a freaking summoner! What luck huh?¡± Yuu-Mi sarcastically said. He hated trading card games as they involved lots of luck and skill to win. If you did not get a good hand to start the match with, you have a high percentage to lose the match. He enjoyed games that involved skill more.


    Yuu-Mi had a good feeling he was going to die day one.

 Chapter Two - Kid Sasuke

    A thick deck of cards was placed in Yuu-Mi¡¯s hand. The sleeve was a giant red A that seemed as if it was burning. Yuu-Mi tried to look at the cards but they would not budge at all. It was like they were glued together.


    As he was at a loss, he heard something that sounded like a woman''s voice inside his head.


    [Would you like to view your deck?]


    [Note: You can only view/replace cards in your deck at the start of a new day. Please choose your cards wisely.]


    It was a no brainer for Yuu-Mi who was still dumbfounded at what was going on. He had to view the Cards he currently had or else he would not know what would go with what. Not to mention he wanted to see their attack and defense, or if they had any at all.


    ¡®View Deck¡¯ Yuu-Mi thought to himself.


    The deck in his hand glowed white for a split second before the glow faded away. Yuu-Mi tried to move the cards once more and this time they came apart.


    As Yuu-Mi scanned over the deck, he noticed that there were fifty cards total. Forty were anime characters while the other ten were skills or abilities that certain characters used.


    While reading the description of the spell like cards Yuu-Mi found that they buffed the attack and defense of certain type of cards, could use an anime characters hidden ability, or it ranked up an anime character.


    For instance, Yuu-Mi was currently staring at [Saber] who was apart of the Fate/Stay series. She had a four star in the top right cover but her background was gold. If [Saber] was equipped with the spell card [Excalibur] she would evolve or rank up into a five star card. Not only would her attack and defense by boosted by +3/+2 the first monster she attacked would automatically be killed by her Noble Phantasm.


    (+3/+2 = +3 to attack and +2 to defense)


    Some cards could be equipped by multiple anime characters, while some were unique to only a certain clan, group, or person.


    As Yuu-Mi was absorbed in his deck of cards, the young man who was still at the bathroom door called out to him. Snatching his attention away.


    ¡°Yuu!¡± He yelled out.


    Yuu-Mi looked up from his deck of cards and the moment he did the deck was back in place.


    [View/Edit mode has been disabled.]


    [Your deck has been shuffled and you¡¯ve drawn five cards.]


    Yuu-Mi received a message and found five cards in his right hand. The deck of cards instantly vanished.


    [To view how many cards are left in your deck, say deck amount. To view cards in your graveyard say view graveyard. Currently you have 55 cards remaining in your deck.]


    ¡°Yeah? What?¡± Yuu-Mi asked slightly upset at the person standing at the door. He did not even get to see all of the cards he currently had. He could only sigh and wait for tomorrow to get another glimpse at the cards.


    ¡°We should go find Carter and Elijah. We bro¡¯s have to stick together, especially now.¡± The man at the bathroom door said.


    Yuu-Mi found out his name was Ben, since Elijah who he met earlier said Ben would be back soon. Also since he said Carter and Elijah, that meant his name had to be Ben.


    Now Yuu-Mi felt much better, he would not have to call them ¡®you¡¯ or ¡®bud¡¯. That would be weird and they would probably find it strange. It would also seem that instead of calling him Yuu-Mi they shortened it to Yuu instead.


    It worked for Yuu-Mi, since his name sounded like ¡®You Me¡¯ or ¡®Yumi¡¯. He¡¯d rather just be called Yuu.


    ¡°Elijah just left before you arrived, probably went to class. As for Carter I don¡¯t know where he could be.¡± Yuu told Ben.


    Ben nodded his head.


    He passed by Elijah on his way back to the door before he got the world announcement. Ben was already by the dorm room when the world announcement appeared. Since Elijah was long gone by then it was faster for him to meet up with Yuu.


    ¡°Carter said he was going to the mall. His professor was out sick so their class did not have to show up. Elijah should be in Calc, that is only taught in the building across from here. Super close, let us head there. You send Elijah a text saying we are going to meet up and i¡¯ll call Carter.¡± Ben gave out information on where Carter and Elijah were.

    There was no service. There were two explanations for this, his phone was super crappy and he had to go outside for a signal or in these ten days technology would not work.


    Yuu really wanted to believe in the former rather than the latter.


    ¡°Fuck!¡± Ben yelled out.


    Yuu guessed that confirmed what he was thinking. He sighed as he finished up his business in the bathroom.


    Yuu came out of the bathroom and found Ben opening up the kitchen cabinets. He set all the canned food under the sink.


    ¡°Alright man, phones don¡¯t work. Computers and tv are probably down too. I¡¯m stashing the food under here and locking it up, in case someone tries to raid it they¡¯ll have a slightly harder time getting to it. We should rush to the building across the street while it is still early.¡±


    Ben sounded like he was well versed in these matters. Yuu had watched plenty of ¡®The Walking Dead¡¯ in his previous life, and other zombie apocalypse tv shows.


    He knew that after they found their friends they should find food, water and a safe shelter. Some place they can hold themselves up in and protect. It can¡¯t be easy to attack and has to have good defenses.


    They could grab survivors that come by or they happen upon. It would increase their chances of surviving.


    While Yuu did have his own opinions he planned to follow Ben¡¯s lead for now. Yuu did not currently know if this place was actually the ¡®Earth¡¯ he knew of. Methods he knew of might not work, at least this way he could learn more silently.


    ¡°Alright Ben, let¡¯s go.¡±


    Ben led the way out of the dorm building as Yuu followed closely behind him. Along the way there were people scattered all over the place. Some were at the dorm entrance looking through the glass window, while others were fidgeting wildly.


    When Ben and Yuu reached the entrance, they saw what was outside. The sky was filled with dark clouds blocking some of the sun¡¯s rays, which caused it to seem slightly darker outside.


    White fog was on the ground. Yuu could even make out a few red colored eyes out in the distance.


    People were screaming and running around.


    This was not any sort of apocalypse that Yuu knew of. He threw all his zombie knowledge out of the window.


    Zombies? Nope! There were small creatures about the size of pre-teens with dark green skin, pointed ears dressed like thieves.


    Some skeletons with swords and shields could also be made out.


    This was just what they could make out from the dorm entrance.


    No one wanted to go outside.


    Ben looked at Yuu and took a deep breath.


    ¡°Well, you ready?¡± He asked.


    ¡°No, not really.¡± Yuu answered honestly.


    Hearing Yuu¡¯s answer caused Ben to laugh as he opened up the dorm entrance.


    ¡°Fuck man, me either.¡± He said as he walked out of the door.


    Yuu followed right behind him.


    As soon as they stepped outside two of the green creatures looked at them and ran their way.


    Ben¡¯s hand ignited on fire as he smirked at the two green creatures.


    ¡°Come get some!¡± He taunted them as he flame ignited from his hand.


    Yuu took this chance to look at the five cards he drew.


    [Kid Sasuke 2*]


    [Tony ¡®Tony¡¯ Chopper 2*]


    [Claire 3*]


    [Sharingan]


    [Nicolas 4*]


    These were the current cards that Yuu had in his hand. He wanted to summon Nicolas as he was super strong, but he could not.


    [You can summon 1*-3* anime characters without any cost. 4* and above anime characters require a sacrifice or special summon to be summoned to the field.]


    Yuu heard the notification and frowned.


    [Since this is your first battle, would you like to start the tutorial mode?]


    The voice asked him.


    ¡®Oh? That sounds nice. Yes!¡¯ Yuu thought.


    [Creatures stats can be viewed when you say ¡®inspect¡¯.]


    Yuu looked at the two green creatures and said inspect, causing two different colored icons to appear above their head. He also found out that they were called Goblins.


    One was a red sword with a number one in the middle, while the other was a blue shield that had zero on it.


    [The sword represents the attack power of the target, while the shield is the defense. When a creature is attacked they will lose a certain amount of defense. The amount lost depends on the attackers attacking power. When both clash both forces will take damage unless the attack was negated/dodged.]


    [To summon a creature, throw the card you would like to summon onto the ground.]


    Yuu picked [Kid Sasuke] and threw him onto the field. [Kid Sasuke] had an attacking power of two and a defense of three.


    The card light up causing a bright light to emerge. When the light dimmed down, the Sasuke that appeared at the beginning of naruto was in its place. He was coldly glaring at the two green creatures.


    [The character you have summoned can now attack a creature. Give it a command and it will attack.]


    As a fireball landed on the Goblin to the right, Yuu ordered [Kid Sasuke] to attack the Goblin on the left.


    [Kid Sasuke] made quick work of the Goblin by throwing three shuriken at it.


    Seeing the shuriken flying towards it the Goblin threw its dagger at [Kid Sasuke] barely hitting him.


    The Goblin died on the spot as three shuriken was lodged into its head.


    [You¡¯ve draw one new card and also gained one summon point.]


    [Everytime you defeat a monster you will gain a draw. Everytime you defeat a monster you will gain a summon point depending on the difficulty of the monster you faced. Summoning points can be used to summon new cards.]


    Yuu was amazed at how quickly the fight ended. He originally thought he would be weak, but he was super strong. Although technically it was not himself who was strong but the card he summoned.


    Yuu looked over at Ben and found beads of sweat all over his face. The Goblin was burnt to a cripst but it seemed that Ben used a lot of stamina up with his attack.


    Yuu was going to say something, but he noticed a giant 2 hovering over [Kid Sasuke]. He wondered what it was.


    [Kid Sasuke last for two more battles or until he is killed. To increase or refresh the timer, evolve him.]

    Yuu started to wonder to himself how he could evolve [Kid Sasuke] then he remembered the [Sharingan] card he had. Figures that any Uchiha member would have an increase in strength with the [Sharingan]. Except when you think about it, there were different versions of it not to mention some were upgraded versions.


    This got Yuu to thinking that there may be another os [Kid Sasuke]. Since it had ¡®Kid¡¯ in the name of the card, that meant there had to be an adult version. Adult Sasuke did not need [Sharingan] since he had something even better.


    Yuu was not planning on evolving [Kid Sasuke] just yet, since he had another good fight in him. When he was down to 1 turn left, then he¡¯d evolve him.


    Would he evolve into curse mark or something else? Yuu actually could not wait to find out. He was excited for it!


    Ben had a surprised look on his face when he say [Kid Sasuke] standing there with a cold expression on his face.


    Ben blinked his eyes to make sure he was not dreaming. An anime character was standing right in front of him. He did not take any drugs last night, so he knew that was not the cause of it.


    ¡°Yuu, did you summon him?¡± Ben asked curiously.


    ¡°Yeah¡­ pretty awesome huh. Maybe I should stop looking down on summoner classes in mmorpg games.¡± Yuu replied with a grin on his face.


    Yuu always thought tcg games were boring, but now that this was basically his class he found it slightly fun. Either he becomes good at it or he¡¯ll die. Yuu did not want to die, but if he was going to die anyways why not have some fun beforehand.


    ¡°Sweet! I think being an arsonist is fun and all, i¡¯m like a firebender. However, it really drains me of my stamina. How much experience did you gain from killing that thing?¡± Ben asked.


    Yuu looked at Ben weirdly. ¡°Ugh¡­ what experience?¡± Yuu couldn¡¯t help but ask.


    ¡°What do you mean what experience? Didn¡¯t you gain 100 exp?¡±


    ¡°No.¡±


    ¡°Maybe it is because of your class? Like I am level 1 right now, but if I get another kill i¡¯ll be level 2. You said you are a summoner, weird you did not get any experience points.¡± Ben said.


    Yuu thought about it and remembered that in tcg games, since the cards you have do all the fighting you don¡¯t really gain experience. Levels in those games do not mean anything as it does not determine the outcome of a match.


    Since his class was basically the same, it more than likely followed the same rules.


    ¡°Whatever, let¡¯s hurry to Elijah. Hopefully he hasn¡¯t left yet.¡± Yuu said.


    Ben nodded his head and dashed off towards the big building followed by Yuu.


    As Yuu was running, he started eyeing his surroundings. Looking at it, there were not a lot of monsters running around. There were students who were facing them, and some were running away.


    In total, he caught sight of twenty. Not including the ones he and Ben faced earlier.Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

    A large axe embedded itself into the ground in front of Ben and Yuu. The axe was rusty but larger than a grown man. Holding the axe was an overly large creature with grayish-green skin. It had a skull necklace around its neck and skulls around its legs. Crimson red eyes and two large tusk.


    It smirked as it looked at Ben and Yuu.


    ¡°What the hell is that?¡± Ben asked as he took a step back.


    Yuu inspected the creature. It was called [Orc Lord - Chieftain] with a huge attacking power of five and a defense of five. Yuu glanced at [Kid Sasuke] and gulped down. There was no way he could defeat that thing.


    [You¡¯ve encountered Larkson College field boss. Defeat the boss and all the surrounding monsters will flee.]


    [Congratulations on discovering a clue to surviving. Field bosses appear in certain locations daily. Defeat them to gain massive rewards and clear out all of the monsters in that location. Monsters will not appear again in that area for the rest of the day.]


    [Note: If there are no monsters in the area you set up a base at, monsters will never spawn inside your base. To set up a base you must have a base card or flag.]


    ¡°Ugh Ben, I believe we just found the boss around town.¡± Yuu said.


    Ben laughed weakly. ¡°Ha, you think?¡±


    Yuu looked at the creature as it looked at them. Saliva dripped out of the Orc Lords mouth. It was looking at them as if they were some delicious food.


    ¡°You think we can take it down.¡± Ben asked Yuu as he took another step back.


    ¡°Nope. Probably not.¡± Yuu did not have any faith in their ability.


    Although Yuu had the card to evolve [Kid Sasuke] he did not believe an evolution would be able to help them out here. At most [Kid Sasuke] would get an increase of +1 to all his stats.


    ¡°Hey! You guys want to help out?¡± Ben yelled out to some students who were looking at him.


    The students pretended they did not hear a word he said and went far away from the Orc Lord. It was better to live in hiding than to fight a monster like that.


    Yuu looked at the cards in his hand, none of them would help him out. If he summoned any, they would instantly die. Sure he may be able to kill this thing if he summoned another creature along with [Kid Sasuke] but he¡¯d be out of two summons.


    These needed to last him.


    Yuu hit his head with his hand. ¡°I¡¯m so stupid!¡± he said to himself outloud as he grabbed the [Nicolas] card.


    He needed to sacrifice a card to summon a four star and above anime character. Yuu believed that this was his solution.


    Grabbing the card, he threw it out. A golden circle appeared above [Kid Sasuke] as he was enveloped in a white light. When the light dimmed down, [Nicolas] was in his place.


    His dog tags made a clicking sound as he smirked at the Orc Lord.


    Both Nicolas and the Orc Lord had the same attack and defense strength. However, a notification appeared when Nicolas was summoned that could change the outcome of their fight.


    [When Nicolas fights anyone who has the same strength as him or higher, he overdoses. Overdose increases both his attack and defense by +2.]


    Reaching into his pocket [Nicolas] pulled out a handful of pills and shoved them into his mouth. His attack and defense both increased, now they were at +7/+7. It was over for the Orc Lord at this point.


    Ben looked at [Nicolas] and was dumbfounded. He did not know what sort of summoning magic Yuu was using but he did like it.


    Blasting off [Nicolas] reached the Orc Lord in an instant. Using his sword he clashed with the Orc Lord as it swung down its axe.


    Without overdosing [Nicolas] would have died along with the Orc Lord, but he was instead saved.


    Sparks flew out as sword and axe hit each other back to back. Seeing that its attacks were going nowhere, the Orc Lord roared in anger.


    Being deaf had its perks since [Nicolas] was immune to the roar. He cut the Orc Lord with one swift movement. Blood sprayed out of its wound as it went into a frenzy and swung its axe wildly. [Nicolas] was hit by the axe and flew backwards causing him to take damage.


    Color faded from the Orc Lords body as it dropped to the ground with a loud thud.


    [Congratulations on defeating the field boss, you¡¯ve gained twenty summon points.]


    [Because you were the first to defeat a field boss, you¡¯ve gained a free legendary card pack.]


    With the Orc Lord dead, a large silver chest appeared. Both Ben and Yuu walked over to the chest and opened it.
