Adventures in the Pirate Continent: Episode Five - Something Inexplicable and Strange!
Dylan quietly dangled her arms over the ship until nightfall hit. She looked at the waves; she thought about how there must be a million of little things living in the water. Jay tapped her on the shoulder.
¡°Hey,¡± Jay said.
Dylan slowly sat down on the deck. Jay joined her.
¡°I was wondering how you ended up there,¡± he said.
¡°My ship was hit by a ¡ um ¡ by a¡.," Dylan shrugged her shoulders.
¡°Something inexplicable and strange,¡± said Jay.
Dylan touched her nose, then pointed at Jay.
¡°Super common in these parts. Number two cause of death around here is ship sunk by something inexplicable and strange,¡± said Jay.This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.
¡°What¡¯s number one?¡±
¡°Heart disease.¡±
¡°Oh,¡± said Dylan.
The waves calmly worked at their endless task behind them as both groped for something to say. Then it hit Dylan, what needed to be asked. It hit her all at once, the things that should have really been her first questions.
¡°Where are we? Who are you? What is going on? Am I dead?¡±
¡°No. We¡¯re headed to land. Jay Ketch," said Jay Ketch.
He then got up and went to the very tip of the ship.
¡°Now I can ask you a question. Why were you on that ship?¡±
Dylan looked at Jay the way barracudas look at plankton that annoy them.
¡°It was my gap year.¡±
¡°You were looking to find yourself, were you not?¡± said Jay.
¡°Sure.¡±
The color of the sea and stars seemed to shift at Jay¡¯s command to make a never-before-seen shade of beautiful green.
¡°Then this is where you will find that because you landed in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean,¡± said Jay. He then hard-swiped his hand across the horizon.
¡°An endless adventure,¡± he said as they crashed into a peer.
¡°We¡¯re here."

Adventures in the Pirate Continent: Episode 7 - Enter Eliza!
Dylan sat down exhausted from, you know, the world being shattered. She spotted a flower girl - a young flower girl who seemed to be just a few years older than she was. "Do you mind if I sit down?"
"Of course not, madam," said the flower girl as Dylan sat down.
"Happy to finally see a friendly face in the sea of unrelenting bleakness and unknowingly weird meanness."
Of course she didn''t see the flower girl cunningly clutching a small dagger ready to strike at her. It was just then a giant halibut went right up to the throat of the young flower girl. This novel''s true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
"What''s going on?" said Dylan.
"She was about to stab you and kill you," said one of two giant bearded Vikings.
"That''s not true. I was just gonna threaten you, but I totally changed my mind on you. We''re best friends. How''s it going best friend? Can you save me now that we''re best friends?" said the flower girl who''s name was, as mentioned, Eliza.
"No, you were gonna try and rob me," said Dylan.
"They''re gonna do worse. They''re gonna kill you, right?" said Eliza.
"Yeah," said one of the bearded men.
The other bearded man who was clearly the brains of the operation hit him hard.
"No, we aren''t going to."
"Help me out, because they''re going to kill you too," said Eliza.
Dylan ducked down, using all the instantaneous training that two years of journalism club and a year on the high school improv team had taught her. She quickly ducked down and hit the guy straight in the family jewels. Both Eliza and Dylan ran, like, a lot.
Adventures in the Pirate Continent: Episode 8 - They Ran as Fast They Could!
Dylan and Eliza ran as fast they could - faster than as fast as they could from the violent angry Vikings that they had both violently angered.
"Really, thank you for that. Also hi, I¡¯m Eliza," said Eliza.
"Dylan," said Dylan. " I have a series of questions."
"Shoot," said Eliza.
"Okay, first one. Who are those people and why were they trying to kill you? Second, what the hell is this place? Where are we? Third, is this some land where I have I died; is this my dying hallucination?"
"First, they''re an ancient clan of Vikings that recently arrived here. Second, where you are is the Pirate Continent. It''s a place where the .1% of shipwrecked people end up. Three," Eliza slapped Dylan, "no."Support the author by searching for the original publication of this novel.
"Good to know."
Eliza looked around and could hear the distinct machinations of Sid and his gang. She figured they must be over on his lake.
"Hey, would you like to not be killed by a group of angry Vikings who have seemingly tripled in size?¡±
"Yes, very much," said Dylan.
"Okay, so here''s the thing. Would you be willing to jump into a lake full of sharks?"
"No," said Dylan.
"Okay. Well, we''re going to."
Eliza violently tackled Dylan, punched a hole into what Dylan could now perceive as very unfit wood, and as it cracked down and she looked around the island, she came to the realization that this wasn''t an island at all, not a traditional island. It was an island made out of ancient ships that must be so old they turned into a landscape. As she fell through what must have been one of the first ships mankind ever sailed, she appreciated how her life had allowed her to see a place such as this.
Then she was surrounded by sharks.
Adventures in the Pirate Continent: Episode 9 - The Sharks Surround Them!
The sharks surrounded Eliza and Dylan. This was it, Dylan thought. She was going to die a terrible, painful death. Then just like that, once again as the shark swam closer and closer, her survival instinct kicked in. She remembered the documentary she had seen and hit the shark square in the nose. The shark screamed, went over, cuddling, to Eliza. Eliza had very angry eyes under the water. She grabbed the shark, then grabbed Dylan. The shark swam up to a further reach of the shore where a bunch of bars were.If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
"What was that," said Eliza.
¡°A shark was coming at me. I hit him in the nose; it was pretty brave," said Dylan.
¡°They''re domestic sharks. They''re as soft and cuddly as any dog could be. Whatever you didn''t know, your implied apology is accepted,¡± said Eliza.
Eliza pulled her up and they landed at the grossest, most terrible, awful, bar - Penelope''s - the center of the desperate person''s universe.
Adventures in the Pirate Continent: Episode 10 - Jay and Eliza!
If there were a musical number about how depressing this bar is, with its puke brown walls and the fact that four out of the five patrons here are passed out and the fifth one is viciously beating up his bar stool, it would go right here. But this isn''t a musical, so there is no song.
It was just like that. The bar was to note: Penelope''s - known throughout the port as the cheapest bar. Dylan sat down with a glass.
"Now here, so who, so you''ve just arrived. It''s just a pleasure to how do you know Jay?"If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
"Oh, well, he''s the one who picked me up."
Eliza face said, "Oh, of course."
"And how do you know Jay?"
"Oh, me and Jay go way back. Ever since our parents introduced us."
"Oh, Jay''s sister," thought Dylan.
"Tell me, is Jay still lame?" Eliza said as Jay walked in behind her in an unusually depressive state. "And does he still suck a lot?"
Jay sat down at the table they were sitting at, because they weren''t sitting at the bar, because the bar was disgusting.
"Some people theorize that that could very well be true," he leaned back in the chair and said, he and Eliza then both standing up and hugging each other.
Adventures in the Pirate Continent: Episode 11 - Advertec College!
Jay looked like a corpse as he ordered other drink.
¡°Well, I went to Advertec Collage to see Professor Dante, who was only like a father to me,¡± said Jay.
"Us," said Eliza.
"Sorry, us."
Advertec College
"Professor Dante. Professor Dante," yelled Jay as he entered the vaulted Advertec University. He looked around. He didn''t see the gray wise beard of Professor Dante. He did however see the much older gray wise beard of Professor Alister.
¡°Professor Alister, where''s Professor Dante?¡± said Jay.
¡°Oh, he''s not here," said Professor Alister.A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
¡° Oh ¡ Well, I''ve been surveying for him for the past three years," said Jay.
¡°He died," said Alister.
¡°Why, was, I, not contacted?¡±
¡°Oh, we assumed you were dead.¡±
Penelope¡¯s Pub
"They canceled that survey," Jay said as he nursed a shot at the bar. Dylan looked around.
¡°I saw a girl my age who was walking six Bengal tigers. I asked her, why was she walking six Bengal tigers? She said she was a tiger walker. I found that, that...,¡± said Dylan.
Advertec College
¡°It took me two years of searching. I found it. Out here in the one unchartered section that I got no responses to. I found it, Professor Alister,¡± said Jay.
¡°Oh, that old thing. We''re searching for it too. Our backers will be very interested in that," said Professor Alister.
"What backers?" said Jay.
"Oh, you know the gentleman dressed in black over there."
¡°You mean the Nazis?¡± said Jay.
"Now Jay, there are some very good men who have paid a lot of money to this university. They are very nice, good, people who deserve a chance to have academia as much as anybody,¡± said Professor Alister.
¡°They''re Nazis,¡± said Jay.
¡°Jay, that is very rude. Everybody deserves free speech."
"I''m saying that they wouldn''t offer you the same opportunity, and that they want to kill most people. That''s their whole goal, to take free speech away,¡± said Jay.
¡°Jay, you don''t seem totally up for doing this work with Nazis.¡±
¡°No, I quit, I quit! I will go about it on my own. I''ll find it before any of you people can,¡± said Jay.
Adventures in the Pirate Continent: Episode 12 - The Origin of It All!
"Jay, did you really find it?" said Eliza.
"Okay, so here''s the thing. I''m wandering about, and forgive me if I come off as ignorant, but what is the it you found?" said Dylan.
Jay paused for a second and realized, oh yeah, he has yet to say to her what the deal was. "The origin," he said as he got up on the table and looked into the far distance. "The origin of it all. The very first island that the human descendants evolved from, and I think I know it''s general location. It''s the section that every person, anytime I ask about going there, would just call me an idiot. It''s how I learned thousands of different language variations for idiot,'' said Jay.If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it.
"And there is going to be some sort of treasure, I assume," said Eliza.
"Yes. Presumably there will be some sort of treasure, So, what do you say folks? Do you wish to find the origin of humanity?¡± said Jay?
"Aye," said Eliza as she stabbed the map at the location.
"Why would you do that? That''s my only copy," said Jay.
"Oh, sorry, " said Eliza, as Jay slowly but surely removed the knife so the map would be perfectly safe.
"It''s an old delicate map. That''s the only way we''re gonna find it," said Jay.
"I said I was sorry," said Eliza.
"Well, apology accepted," said Jay.
Adventures in the Pirate Continent: Episode 13 - Dylan Makes Another Decision!
"Well, I hope you don''t assume I''m coming along," said Dylan.
Eliza and Jack stared at her. "No. We wouldn''t assume that you were coming along."
"Yeah, who do we think you are? You are free to decide your own fate," said Eliza.
"Do you know how to get me back home?" said Dylan.
Jay and Eliza looked at each other and sat down. Jack motioned for the bartender and said, "Could we get, like, a particularly strong drink?"Did you know this story is from Royal Road? Read the official version for free and support the author.
"Of course, of course, of course," said the bartender, who took out of his pocket - the place where he kept the really strong drink - the bottle, and put it right next to Dylan.
"So, here''s the deal. There''s no known way to get back," said Jay.
"What?"
"Yes. Sorry dear. Nobody knows how to get back to the outside world. It''s something theorized to be unknown," said Eliza.
So Jay stood up on the table, as he is wont to do, and said, "So, welcome to your new home!" as a man vomited into a bucket.
Dylan stood and was silent. She drank all the strong drink in one gulp.
"Um. Um. Um. Um," she said, and she continued to go "Um. Um. Um," for over 30 seconds. And then a steely resolve came over her as she took another big swig of the strong one, throwing the glass down and breaking it, and said in a very confident whisper, "Okay. I''ll go."
Adventures in the Pirate Continent: Episode 14 - Something Pirate-y!
It was then that a lone, single pirate walked into Penelope''s. He sat down and got a drink. His name was Longjeffy Silver, or you know, something pirate-y in that regard.
"Oh, a pirate! I was wondering why people keep calling this the pirate continent. See? I hadn''t seen any pirates up until this point. It was like, ''Weird name, man,''" said Dylan.
"It''s more of a metaphor than anything else. It''s not a literal continent full of pirates. The continent itself is a pirate," said Jay.
"Oh, okay. That makes sense, I guess."
"Huh. See? I always thought you were mispronouncing it and it was Priscilla continent," said Eliza.Did you know this story is from Royal Road? Read the official version for free and support the author.
"Really? " said Jay.
"Yes, and don''t give me that weird look. I feel really self conscious now, but I admitted that, and I would really like some insurance that I''m doing okay," said Eliza.
"Yes your doing ok" said Jay.
"So, what''s next?" said Dylan.
"Oh, right, glad you mentioned that. Well, we''ll have to get the funds together to head out. But our next step is Set on Fire, and then Poisoned Island."
Dylan started to sweat just a little bit, because that name was like, "Whaa? Weird, man, that''s a super weirdo name," she said in, more or less, words. I don''t feel like going into what she said, exactly. You get the idea.
Whoa, scary stuff. "Oh no, no, no, no. I see that look on your face. Don''t worry, it''s just named after the founder...."
"Oh, phew," said Dylan.
" ''sss terrible death. You didn''t let me finish. The founder''s terrible death," said Jay.
"Oh, okay, so that''s good. Don''t worry ya. That''s good," said Dylan.
"Don''t worry love, don''t like that no more. You know what it is in reality? Don''t, I wouldn''t worry about that, I mean," said Eliza.
Adventures in the Pirate Continent: Episode 15 Phone-Like!
The night went by fast and as Dylan turned out to be drunk she went right past a phone that was ringing. This was good to know, that the phones were there, something fun and modern. It took her longer than she would have liked to admit to herself, that she could possibly use the phone for various phone-like activities, like calling somebody. She was also pretty drunk, and at one point she wondered if the phone would still be there if she didn''t love it.
You know, normal things that a person thinks. She decided to reach out towards the phone and grab it and was thinking maybe, maybe Jay and Eliza didn''t know what they were talking about with this whole situation. When she reached out to grab it she did not see the little note on the phone saying, "Whatever you do, don''t answer this phone if it is ringing," that had fallen off it.This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
Well, it''s probably not that big of a deal. So she picked up the phone. She heard a low ringing voice.
"Wonderful, wonderful. Hello, Dylan, it''s good to finally hear from you," the voice said.
She hung up quickly. How did the phone know who she was? Oh well, best not to think about it too hard.
Probably won''t come up again, Dylan assumed. Yeah. That''s probably it.
