《The Room of Choices》 Session 1: Where Am I? "Ugh...." I groaned and opened my eyes. My sight still blurring, I watched my surrounding. I used my arm to rub my eyes, trying to clear the blur. Opening my eyes again, I watched my surroundings again. There are trees here and there. However, the place where I lie is clear of trees, leaving only wet grass and mud on the ground. Standing up, I realized that my arm is covered in mud too, which means I rubbed my eyes with an arm full of mud. Even then, my face was already covered by mud in the first place and I''m already used to being covered in it. ''Wait, when did I got covered in mud before?'' As I tried to recall how I got used to being covered in mud. A stinging pain was felt on my head. "Arghhh!!!" As the pain strikes, I screamed and put a hand on my head. I crouched and while all that was happening, I recalled... Something. A vision of a place. Corpses are everywhere, loud sounds echoing in the air. There was no peace. Men jumped out of their trench and charged at the enemies while screaming. Many of them didn''t make it out alive. And the one that is lucky and alive, shot their... Huh? What is that? Wait, what is happening? Being too focused on the vision, I didn''t realize the pain was gone. I was staring blankly at the ground, my hand still on my head. I lowered my hand. Standing up once again, I checked myself. I wore the same outfit as the one I saw in the vision. Yet, unlike the people in my vision, I didn''t have a thing on my head. I checked the... thing that was hung on my shoulder. It was the same as the one in my vision, again. Hanging it back on my shoulder with the strap that was attached to the thing. ''I can''t call this..thing, thing forever right, can I? Ummm... Let''s name it...'' Yet again something appeared on my mind, this time it wasn''t a vision like the one before. More like a vague word. ''Ghanth?'' is the name I could make out of the vague memory. ''Well then, ghanth is it?''Find this and other great novels on the author''s preferred platform. Support original creators! I started to walk. Yet, another thing interrupted me with a*clank* sound when I stepped on it. Picking it up, I see that it was the... *Sigh* ''Another thing to name, eh? Let''s just call it hat for now.'' ....hat in my vision. And finally, I started to walk again to explore this forest, or not? The thing I never thought about appeared in my head. "Where am I?" Now that I started to think about it I started to panic. And in the panic, I run into the forest, only to be stopped by some kind of thing. "Bzzzttt..... T-... Zzztt... Test, test, can you hear me?" An unknown voice called me. "....Yes?" I replied. "Ok, looks like everything works fine." It talked once again. What works fine and where is it? "Um, where are you?" I asked out of curiosity. "Down here, pick me up!" I tried to search where the sound came from. I found out that it came from a cube thing with a black colour. And a stick extending from one of the cube''s edge. I walked over to it and pick it up. "What are you?" I asked. "Call me Mindie-Talkie." It replied. "Okay, so, do you know where am I?" "Sure, you are at....
Inside the room, a man with a mask, holding a remote controller turned off the monitor displaying the once unconscious man. In his hand, he holds a Walkie-Talkie, or what he calls Mindie-Talkie. "Well hello there! I''m the host of this game. Here''s the guide: "Your job is to guide him as he adventured that world with me as the middleman. You could even help me form the world around him! You just need to write down something to continue my last line with the pen and paper on your desk (Basically, write a comment. Choice is endless). Please make it connected to the storyline, don''t drift it from undead land to unicorn-filled lands. Also, more detail on the thought you wrote will be appreciated! Example for this chapter: "Sure you are at... Great Forest of X, where many kinds of things exist, ranging from ants to dragons. Commonly, the trees colours are blah blah blah" Just like that, easy, right? I will pick down the one I think the most interesting, or the one you guys liked the most (Everyone had a chance to be selected). For now, I would only look at the 99 first comments (Maybe added later). The time limit is 3 days. I will continue the gameplay sporadically in my free times. I will give him supply once every 3 sessions (1 box at a time), you may give suggestions on what I would give. There will be a bonus question sometimes!" That is all. Hope you guys will accompany me through this gameplay!" Session 2: The Room of Choices "Humm... You might be wondering why did I start this session just one day after the first. The answer is, seeing that there are only 3 people who shared their thoughts, and I guess there will be no more people who will share their ideas, I decide to make more people join first by starting sessions early at some of the beginning sessions." Explained the masked man. "And because I can''t decide which idea to use, let''s just use a randomizer, for now, to be fair. System, open a... wheel-type randomizer, and input the nickname of the three people who wrote their ideas, please." "Command accepted. Searching... Opening...Modifying..." A sound that didn''t have any emotion to it complied with the masked man request. "Done." It talked once again, while a screen displaying a spinning wheel, and it stopped on the nickname ''robinius''. Spoiler: Spoiler Actual image of my result for those who didn''t believe: "Okay, let''s go with his idea." After saying that, the masked man picked up a paper. "Hmmm... Ah, anyway, let''s use this. 10 challenges eh?" "There seems to be a slight misunderstanding here." The masked man mumbled. Picking up the remote, turning on the monitor again, and holding his Wal-,*cough*, Mindie-Talkie in front of his mouth, he started to speak again. "...the room of choices." While reading the paper, he spoke to the Mindie-Talkie. "In her-"He was going to speak again but was interrupted. "What room?" The man on the monitor asked. "The room of choices." The masked man replied. "So what kind of room is that?" Once again, the man on the monitor asked. Bah, let''s just call him gunner for now. "Basically, you have a 1km3 space to work with to complete 10 challenges I would give you." After facepalming himself, the masked man answered. "And why should I?" Gunner asked. "To leave this place of course. And you will also get a reward for completing them." Masked man answer. I wonder how long would I be repeating the gun ask mask answer. "Okay... So, what''re the challenges?" Gunner, yet again, asked, I''m tired of writing this repeating line.
A blue paper with details on the challenges appeared in front of me. Strangely, it is straight an hanging in the air.If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation. ''This looks like a blueprint. And hard to read...''
1. Kill 10 Goblins with arrows.
2. Kill 10 Goblins with blunt weapons.
3. Kill 10 Goblins with an ax.
4. Reach the ceiling.
5. Reach the bottom.
6. Destroy all trees.
7. Survive a near-death experience without actually dying.
8. Tame a wolf.
9. Hidden.
10. Hidden.
''What kind of bullshit is this? The tasks other than the killing ones and the taming one seemed impossible to complete with me being alone. Where are the ceiling and the bottom? Nevermind about finishing the fourth and the fifth challenges, I need to reach the sky and dig into the core of Earth? Even if I got a thousand-men it won''t be enough. Why are the ninth and tenth challenges hidden? And what is Goblin?'' I asked myself with questions. "Hey, aren''t most of this challenges impossible? Also, what is a Goblin?" I ask. "Yes, for the current you. A Goblin is a green-skinned creature. They have long ears, fat-bellies, and as tall as 1.25 meters to 1.5 meters, typically of course. There might be some that are different." The thing answered. "So I need to kill these kid-like creatures?" I asked yet again. "Yes, with limited resources. You can also take the challenges later because the current you are soooo weakkk..." The thing said with a mocking tone on the last lines, making me a little bit angry. "And of course, to exit, you must complete one of it. At least that will make you a little bit more adapted to this world." "''this world''? What do you mean by that?" I asked curiously while raising an eyebrow. "Oh, you probably didn''t notice. But this is a different world from the one you used to live." It replied. A look of realization came to my face. ''There is none of these Goblin things on Earth. How can I miss that?'' I thought. ''Probably because all of this events are strange, and I forgot about the common ones.'' I tried to find a reason for forgetting it. "Pfftt... Stop that. I can''t hold my laughter seeing your face." It mocked me, which in turn made me angrier. "Oh, really? I wonder what a... Mindie-Talkie like you could do against me, a human?" I threatened it. Positioning my arm which held the Mindie-Talkie into a throwing position. Aiming for a tree, far-far away. "AHHH!! NO! PLEASE!!" It begged, and a smile rose on my face. "Is that what you expected to hear? BAHAHAHA! Your so funny, truly." The smile on my face disappeared, and I threw it with all the force I could muster. A refreshed smile rose on my face. And crumbled, that is when I found the Mindie-Talkie floating in front of me. "I think I need to explain something to you. There is a reason why I am called Mindie-Talkie. I only existed in your mind, nobody except you could see it. And also means, I am linked to your mind. You can never make me disappear. Unless you got killed, of course." I, fucking, hate, this, thing.
The masked man turned off the monitor again. "Let''s end it at that for now. Looks like... A certain someone needs to do his business." The masked man said. "Ah, I''m sorry, but let''s change the question type for this chapter, and change some rules. From now on, I declare that the question can be anything. Yes, I said anything. Besides, won''t it be more exciting that way?" "For this session, the question is... What would be the place he visits after leaving that room of choices (With the description of course)?" "And for a bonus question: Should I give him a system or not? You know, like the LitRPG novels nowadays. Vote for it in the poll." While saying that, a poll appeared in front of all the people in the room, no, The Room. The masked man left the room after leaving a note hanging in the air. "For now, the sessions will start a bit earlier than the time limit until we got more audiences." Session 3.1: Supplies and Goblins "According to the result of the poll I made, which only got three people votes, there will be a system for our little soldier. Well then, let''s start it." After mask guy said that, he turned on the monitor again.
"So, what challenge will you take?" Asked the Mindie-Talkie. While I was thinking about it, a rumbling sound came from my stomach. ''Oh yeah, I hadn''t eaten food since... When?'' "Looks like someone''s hungry~," It said with a playful tone. "Yeah, do you know any way I would get food while being trapped here?" I asked the thing. "Sure, you can climb up these trees and eat their fruit, and search for insects to be made into foods." It answered. "...Okay, I guess..." I said while looking up at the trees. The trees were tall. If I was to be asked of their height, I would say that the average height was 125m. On the top, there are blue fruits that I had never seen. Wondering how to climb it, the thing suddenly talked. "You know? That was a joke, there''s no way I would let my entertai- Uhm, friend eat those things. And there''s no way you could climb a tree without something to step or hang on." It said. ''I could hear what you were going to say clearly, you know? You were going to say, entertainer, didn''t you? Fuck you. Besides, I''m used to harsh living conditions, so I''m fine with eating those things.'' Again, I tried to remember how I was used to such conditions. ''Must be related to that vision.'' I thought. "So, how am I going to get food?" I said. "I will give you some, for now. And some other things will be included in it." It said. Suddenly, a wooden crate fell in front of me. "There ya'' go! Open it." It said. Walking to the crate while holding suspicions, I look towards the crate. It has a door on the top side. Its purpose is to open the crate, I guess. I pulled the door at the top of the crate. Watching the now opened crate, inside it, there is a box. I took the box from the crate and placed it on the ground. Unboxing the box, I could see its content. There is a plate, on the plate, there is a cream bread, a boiled egg, a milk, and a piece of cloth below the plate.Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation. "One healthy meal for our friend! See? No need to be so suspicious of me." It said. "Yeah yeah, I won''t be suspicious of you for sure," I replied. "Eh... I doubt that you got rid of that suspicions." It said. Deciding to ignore the thing, I grabbed my plate, sit on the ground, uncaring the fact that it was dirty, and eat my food silently. After eating the food, I stopped feeling hungry and decided to start the challenge. "Hey, can you start those challenges?" I asked. "Are you sure, but you hadn''t taken the other things I gave you." It said. "What things?" I asked. "See it for yourself, it''s inside of the box, below the piece of cloth." It replied. I grabbed the piece of cloth, revealing the things it hid. There is a backpack inside it, and inside of the backpack, there is a long rope, a scissor, some bandages, and some kind of mask. I quickly put the backpack on and ask the Mindie-Talkie about the mask. "I understand that I might be needing the other things, but what is this mask for?" I asked. "Oh, that. You will see its functions sooner or later. For now, let''s start the challenge. Which one will you take?" It asked. "The first until the third for now," I replied after picking up the bandages and put it the backpack. "Alright, let''s start the fun. Barrier: Off." It said, and suddenly I heard the voice of a true forest. Where there are birds singing songs and other voices. And my ghant is gone, replaced by a bow and a quiver full of arrows. I breathed the pure air. And an unexpected arrow pierced my calf. Holding my breath because the sudden attack, I quickly removed the arrow and ran in panic, ignoring the pain. After running for a while, I found a river and jumped to it. After swimming far away from my attackers, I surfaced my head, identifying my attackers. They are goblins, the things that the Mindie-Talkie mentioned. They were seeking for me, searching near the river. Their numbers are 10, exactly the same as the numbers of the goblins I needed to kill. After recovering from the panic, I felt the pain from my calf. I searched around for cover and found a waterfall, the waterfall isn''t too high. At first, I didn''t notice it, but there was a cave inside the waterfall. I quickly swam and made my way into the cave. Passing through the barrier of water, I stepped into the cave. The inside was dark, without any source of light beside the light that passed through the waterfall. I explored the cave deeper, and after confirming that it was safe, I sat down on the floor. Opening my wet backpack, I applied the bandage to my bleeding calf. Exhausted, I lay down on the floor and slept while being thankful for the fact that I thought to be true. ''Those Goblins can''t swim.''
The masked man turned off the monitor again. "That should be the end for now. Some of you might ask, "Why didn''t you talked during the challenge?". The answer is, I didn''t want to disturb him, and helping him would reduce the fun. Besides, even if I talked to him while he was panicking, he would ignore me anyway." The masked man said. "And I''m going to apologize because there will be no question for this session. Reason? Okay, I''ll give you one." The masked man said once again. After thinking for some time, he gave a reason. "Because there will only be questions at the end of sessions, and this isn''t the end of a session. Once or more, I might not ask any question even at the end of a session, I''m truly sorry for this." The masked man said in an apologetic tone. "Before I forgot, I will add that, as ''robinius'' is the only one that shared his idea, I will be using his idea for the next place our soldier would come into." Said the masked man. Chapter 3.2: Night Hunt "Hey, wake up!" Someone called out to me. I opened my eyes. There was a figure with the same outfit as mine. And his face looks familiar, yet, I couldn''t make it out. His face was blurred. "C''mon, he already punished us by making us run around the barracks seven times! Seven times! And now will be the eight, and ninth if you don''t wake up." He said while pulling my arm. Getting me up from my bed. Yet, he disappeared. What I found is the dark cave, some part of it is lit by moonlight. A tear fell down from my sitting body. ''Yet another thing to find out, I guess.''I thought to myself while wiping the tear. I got up and sneezed. My wet outfit didn''t help me. However, I didn''t take off the outfit. I couldn''t dry it even if I take it off, and being a lazy guy I was, it wasn''t worth it. Finding the silence a little bit unusual, I noticed three things. ''Where did that thing go to? And where are my bow and quiver'' While thinking about the Mindie-Talkie, I remembered about the bow and quiver that should be on my back. Also, the pain from my calf was gone. ''Must be lost when I ran in panic. Now, without that thing and the bow, how am I going to kill the Goblins?'' I thought. Suddenly, I found what I lost, but not all of them. The bow and quiver appeared in front of me. It fell down from nowhere. I decided to ignore the strange appearance, equipped the quiver, and grabbed the bow. I checked the quantity of the arrows held in the quiver, there were 21 of them. I left my backpack at the cave and walked out of it, finding a silent forest with the exception of the sound that the trees made when they met a breeze of cold wind, and some other night creature sounds. The moon above the river shining beautifully. The clean and transparent water the river was holding reflected the moon. It was a beautiful sight. Except, a few things disturbed me. It was some greeny things gathering around a little fire. They were the 10 Goblins that tried to hunt me down. 7 of them were sleeping. The 3 others were guarding the sleeping ones. Three of them held bows. Four of them held swords. And the three guards held spears. I felt hatred towards them for striking me down out of blue. I wanted revenge. Yet, before that, I needed to do something. To practice, that is. I grabbed an arrow out of the quiver, loading the bow. I pulled the bowstring and aimed at a tree a little bit far away. As I aimed, another vision of my past appeared. It felt like time was slowed down and there I was holding my ghant. I aimed at a bottle placed on a wood chair far away. I held my breath and pulled... something attached to my ghant. Another thing came flying out of the front part of the ghant. It was really fast, even with the time being slowed down. The thing hit the bottle. The bottle shattered and fell from the chair. The vision ends there. I found out that I instinctively released the arrow from the bow while pulling the thing attached to the ghant for some reason. The arrow was stuck in the tree I aimed at. I felt a sense of similarity between the ghant and the bow. Deciding to trust on my accuracy, I went to retrieve the arrow and start the hunt. ''They were the hunters, but now, they are the hunted.'' I thought to myself, while slowly approaching the Goblins without making any sound. Well, not any sound, but the least I could make.Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit. I keep approaching them, trying to decrease the range to increase my accuracy, while keeping some range in case I had to run away. I aimed at one of the Goblin guards. Holding my breath and releasing the arrow from the bowstring that I pulled, the arrow was shot straight into the Goblin''s head and killing it instantly. With a *thud*, its corpse fell down, alerting the other guards. I aimed again at one of the remaining guards while they were shouting, alarming their sleeping friends. I released the arrow, it pierced to its lung, or where I guessed where a Goblin lung would be, based on human anatomy. Even though it didn''t die instantly like the previous one, I ran away, leaving the Goblin to die because of suffocation and bleeding. The other Goblins woke up and split to search around for me. I ran through the forest and hid in a bush. A Goblin passed in front of me. I stood up and aimed my bow at it, released the arrow, and the arrow hit its chest. The goblin turned around and found me, a surprised look on its face. I jump out, grabbed an arrow and stabbed it into where I guess its heart would be while being quick at it. The stabbed goblin screamed, I pulled the arrow that was stabbed into its body and kicked it. I ran again. Counting my kills, there are 7 Goblins left. I hid behind a tree and aimed near the Goblin''s corpse. Another Goblins came to it. It looked around for me. It made an eye contact with me, and I released the arrow. The arrow pierced his head and killed him instantly like the first one. But, he screamed before the arrows hit his head, calling even more goblins. I waited once again, prepared to shoot while waiting for another Goblin to pass by. My hope was quickly crushed because all of them came at once. I shot one of them with the prepared shot. It hit its knee. I quickly ran. The Goblins chased after me. Their short legs were unable to catch up to my speed, giving me time to pull my bowstring, stop running, turning back, and shot into one of them. The one I hit in the knee is running limply, being left behind by the others. I continued my hit and run strategy. Killing them one by one with a bad accuracy because of my rough breathing. I turn back once more to the last of them. Which is, the guy that was shot in the knee. I killed the others first because I thought that this guy couldn''t catch up to me. I shot an arrow at it. It missed. I shot another arrow at it. It hit his belly, but it did not kill it instantly. It closed up the range. It jumped at me with its sword. I grabbed another arrow. It slashed vertically against me, and I backstepped. It hit my thigh. I aimed and shot an arrow at its head, killing it. I breathed a sigh of relieve while holding my bleeding thigh. And the familiar thing that was lost appeared. "Congratulations! You passed the first challenge!" It said, congratulating me. I stared at it silently, holding the urge to beat the heck out of it. "What''s with that stare? Don''t be so rude." It said. I sighed and asked something to it. "Where did you go to?" I asked. "Somewhere secret~" It answered, increasing the urge to beat it. "Anyway, let''s go back to the safe zone and give your rewards. Barrier: On." It said, and I was back to the place where I started. ''I wonder what would it give me as a reward.'' "Now, for the rewards... Dun dun dun... Behold, the power of other worlds. The System! And for the other rewards, I will give you a mystery box." "What do you me-" My words were cut off by the sudden appearance of a blueprint-like paper appeared in front of me. It was straight like before, but this time it was transparent.
System Initializing...
''The fuck?'' Is the thing I thought seeing it.
Yet again, the masked man turned off the monitor. Repeating the scene again and again. "That ends the third session! And here comes the question: What would be the thing inside the mystery box? It could be a spell, a skill, an item or whatever. But, it can''t be a living being. Also, if the thing that you suggested is too OP, I will nerf it till it fits the power of our soldier. For example: Branch of Yggdrasil, it could give you the strength of the branch. In other words, your muscle will be harder and blah blah blah. Oh, I wouldn''t give him a main weapon. You will know why shortly." The masked man said. "Well then, goodbye." The masked man left the room after saying that. I wonder when did he enter the room though. Session 4: The System "We got two ideas for this session, they''re from robinius and Kaarel. Thank you." The masked man said and bowed. "Now, to be fair, let the wheel decide once again. System, open the wheel that was used before and input the names of those who shared their ideas." The masked man ordered. "Command accepted. Opening...Modifying... Done." The System replied. The wheel stopped on the nickname Kaarel. "Then, according to Kaarel''s idea, I''m going to give our soldier a flintlock, but because Kaarel said ''You could give him a flintlock pistol in the future but not yet'', I will give a requirement to open the mystery box." The masked man said. "Well then, let''s start!" The masked man said and turned on the monitor.

Even though the explanation is really vague, knowledge of The System comes to my mind. I know what is magic, mana, and all the other things. I wonder how the thing did it? Using magic? Curious because of the ???? in my regens, I placed my finger at the ????.

''So this is the reason my bleeding thigh was healed.'' I thought to myself. "Hey, why is my name N/A?" I asked the Mindie-Talkie. "You didn''t hav- no, you DID have it, but not anymore." The thing replied. "Can I change it?" I asked the thing. "Nay, but I can." It said. "Then change it," I said. "Later, there is a more important thing to do now." It said. "And what is that thing?" I asked it. "I placed the knowledge on you. It is skills, spells, your mystery box, and one more thing I''m going to give you later." It said. "I will give you some starter spell and skill.Skill_Give: Identify & Observe." As it said the last line, a notification appeared.
Observe
Enhances your sight and allow you to notice more detail
Identify
Allows the user to see detailed information of others
After the notification came, my sight enhanced, allowing me to see things more clearly and more detailed. Through this, I see that The System is really useful, except ''There are too many blue screens...''There''s just too many of them. I focused all of my attention and tried to use the new spell I obtained, Identify on the Mindie-Talkie.
Warning! Unknown entity detected, please leave this place for your safety.
''...So this thing is unknown even to The System? Well, I can''t run away from him even if I want, can I? And for red screen, yay!'' "Ah, don''t try to use that spell to me, try using it on the mystery box and the mask that I gave you for now. Though, I must admit that I''m surprised at you being able to cast spells chantlessat first try." The Mindie-Talkie said. ''How the heck did he notice me casting it?''I asked myself but knowing that I wouldn''t find the answer, I just do what he told me to do, identifying the mask and mysterious box by doing the same process as the one I did to the Mindie-Talkie.
Mystery Box: Contains a random thing. Requirements: User level above ten. Modified by: ???.
Gas Mask of Unknown: Grants user immunity to poison gasses and mind magic, enhance user''s eyes and increase poison resistance by 60% at the cost of reducing user''s charisma to 1. Defense: 10 (Can be increased). Cannot be unequipped.
''Isn''t this mask a cheat item?''I thought whilereading the gas mask''s description. "The mask is good, isn''t it? Try using it." The Mindie-Talkie said. I hesitated at the risk of being chained to this mask and reducing my charisma to 1. ''Fuck it. Survival is number one priority.'' I equipped the mask. I sighed after equipping it. ''There''s no turning back, let''s face the future.'' I thought to myself. "Good, now, let''s proceed to the next challenge, shall we?" The Mindie-Talkie said. "Alright, bring me those Goblins," I said with a grin on my unseeable face. "Well then,Barrier: Off." As the thing said that, the sound of the forest can be heard again. My ghant is gone like before, and in my hand, there is a mace. I turned around and, with the newly obtained skills and the help of the mask, I could see the 10 Goblins hiding behind the bushes. "Bring it on!" I said while dashing forward at them, holding my mace over my shoulder.
"Let''s end that there." The masked man said while turning off the monitor. "Now, I will give information of The System to you guys." The masked man said. "To interact with The System, you need to touch it. The System of a user cannot be seen by another user. The difference between spell and skill is that spell needed chants and interacts with mana, while skills affect the user body without interacting with mana. Magic is part of spells that use elements, an example of spells that are not magic: Body Strengthening and Increase Accuracy. The reason that I am surprised seeing him being able to do chantless spell is that it is the third tier of chanting, the first being chanted and second being mind chant. Though I think the knowledge of chantlesscast. I gave him is the reason." The masked man explained. "And for the question: What would be the name I give him?" The masked man said. "Goodbye then." The masked man said and left the room. They''re truly interesting. Let''s see how this ends. I might use that System later...
