《Making an Island》 Chapter 1 - A rock in the sea Chapter 1 - A rock in the sea Blue skys, clean air, swaying waves as far as the eye can see, this is why Nathan loves to sail. There is nothing better than the refreshing feeling of the wind in his hair and water lightly splashing on his face. Ever since he was little he has always loved the ocean and dreamt over crossing the seas and exploring the world and although he hasn''t been sailing for long he is still fairly adept at manning a one man vessel. He has been planning a trip to sail the world by himself for along time now and as he turned 20 he was finally ready to depart with everything he needed, food and water, supplies, navigation, whatever it is he has it covered. ***** A week has past since Nathan set off and it''s been nothing but smooth sailing, his hopes are high and it''s everything he wanted it to be. Since there was not a problem in sight he decided to take a small nap to pass the time relaxing while the letting the wind take him across the waters. A slightly chilly breeze drafted along his neck as he shivered and woke up, he looked into the sky and looked ahead. The sky had become clouded and was growing darker as the wind picked up the speed heading straight into a storm. Seeing the strong winds, lashing rain, and high waves he could only retort "Well this is going to be fun" he said sarcasticly with a hint of excitment. The winds danced around furiously, the waves stood intimidatingly into the air, the rain crashed down. Nathan was in a constant battle wrestling with his boat steering it trying to get through the deadly storm climbing the mountain of waves. Waves crashed on the boat feeling like a shower of bricks as energy was drained at a staggering rate yet plowed through stuggling to hold on but, managing to keep control if only just. The neverending onslought of attacks from the sea seemed to have no end, Nathan felt himself slipping for but a moment but it was too late. *Bang!* He didn''t know what hit him but it knocked him out cold unabled to even react. ***** With a choke and a splutter Nathan raised his head as he coughed up water from his lungs supporting himself with his hands slowly trying to stand. He felt disoriented as he placed his hand on his head that felt like it was spinning. As his mind cleared up he only then realised his balance was off, the boat was slanted and as he looked down he can feel the water slowly rising up his legs. Snapping his eyesight to his boat he saw it was partly submerged into the water, he panicked for a moment trying whatever he could to removed the water but is was far too late as the boat had already decided it was making its decent into the sea below. "No, no, no, no..." He cried out fearing for his life as he watched the boat slowly sink. Looking around out into the far off ocean with a panicked expression he despretly tried to find some form of hope in the form of a far off island, but it was futiled, there was nothing. This story originates from Royal Road. Although it seem like there was no hope, if there was going to be any it was on that rock. Before the boat disapeard completly Nathtan grabbed a large backpack and swung it round his left shoulder before grabbing a slightly smaller one hanging it from his right arm. With the backpacks around him he swam towards the rock that was a distance away as fast as he could while having the weights trying to drag him down. As he reached the rock he flung both backpacks off his shoulders and onto the rock followed by lifting himself up climbing onto the rock before lying face down breathing heavily. Now lying on the rock he realised how small it was seeing how he was taking up half the space lying down it wasnt very big, it would be very dangerous if there was another storm while standing on this rock. He sat up on the rock looking at where his boat was now completely submerged not even the mast was sticking out of the water and let out sigh. "What am I going to do now..." He said in a sorrowful tone. Then he looked around at smallrock he was sitting on, how can he survive only on this, he has supplies in the backpacks he brought but with just this rock to stand on he won''t last long. As he was looking at the rock he saw a small hole that looked to be in the centre, there was a small dim light glowing from it, he tried to angle his head to see what it was then put his hand inside pulling something out. It was the size and shape of an egg, but it was golden with beautiful patterns wrapping around wonderfully giving off a faint glow. "Wow, it''s so beautiful. It doesn''t look natural, so what is it doing out here?" As he inspected it and was staring at it intently, the light it gave off started to grow, almost making it blinding causing him to hold the egg away from himself closing his eyes and turning away. He suddenly felt a show and he was stunned for a second, information flooded his head, it was as clear as day, but how could he know? He knew now that what was in his hands was called an Island Seed, a magical Item that gives a person to power to create an island and have complete control over it. "Wait, Magic?" Although it is hard for him to believe, he now knows that magic exists, and he knows how to control and manipulate magic ina way that allows him to be able to use thepower of the Island Seed. "With this I can... I might be able to survive!" His power at the moment was weak, but he knew it was enough to atleast have the beginnings of an island. As he willed it, his hands started to glow with a golden light, the Island Seed also lit up in his hands feeling the power start to build up. Somehow he just knew what he needed to do, Nathan then threw his hand down fixing the Island Seed in the hole it came from creating a small shockwave as he did. A light from deep within the ocean surrounding the small rock starting to rise as Nathan brought up his hands to as if lifting something with all his might, his hands radiating with golden energy. The ocean shook as rumbling could be heard from deep below the surface, waves splashing and crashing all around. As the light grew brighter and bright from beneath the surface the water seemed to become clearer, as land started to sprout out of the sea. The light slowly faded as the ocean became blue and his hands had lost its golden energy, though as slight tingling as if something remaind could be felt. Looking around Nathan was amazed at what he had done, surrounding the rock was no longer water but a white sandy beach stretching 20 meters across before decending into the water where the light shimmered below the surface. Soft waves could be heard as they glided across the sand soothing his mind. He was amazed at what he had done, but strangely, he felt calm. Chapter 2 - Desert Island Chapter 2 - Desert Island Sunny blue skies, warm calming breeze, a small sandy beach which sits isolated in a vast open ocean. At the center of the island stands a man ontop a rock with two backpacks at his feet. "Wow, haha, this is amazing! I really made an island, I actually did it. This is too unreal it''s like a dream, it could be a dream, I could of died on my boat on gone to heaven." *Grumble* Nathan held his stomach. "Haha, I guess that proves i''m not dead yet, I haven''t eat for a while." Nathan jumps off the rock onto the soft sandy beach, and spun around a few time arms wide enjoying the feeling. After he had his fun he went over to the rock and reached for the smaller of the two backpacks, sat down on the sand and opened it up. A couple different foods were pulled out, some were preserved in cans, bags, or containers while others were still in a packet. "Well i guess I should eat what goes off first as i don''t know how long I will be without getting any other food, I wonder if there will be fish around here?" *** After a while off eating quietly while enjoying the view he stood up and walked back to the rock. As he tried to pick up the Island Seed again he noticed this time it was stuck, as he tried pulling harder it didnt budge. Nathan wasn''t sure what was going on but it still had a light glow like before, it was then he realised he felt something strange, he felt a small amount of energy coming off from the Seed and entering his body. "Huh, I wonder if it still have power even though I''m not holding the Seed?" He thought to himself that he wanted to use the energy and it drew from his body and entered his hands lighting them up in golden energy just as it did before. An idea popped into his head about what to do, he stretched and raised them up like he did before, increasing the size of the island by pulling more out of the water. Once he was happy he stopped and drew his hands close to the ground, this time the golden energy entered the earth and something new happened. The sand around him started to change, slowly turned brown changing its texture expanding around him while also starting to expand from the small rock as well, the sand had turned into soil. But it didn''t stop there as grass started to sprout from the dirt sparsely making patches of grass across the soil.Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit. Once that was completed he stood up looking at his work, he felt like he only had a little bit of energy left but he knew what to do with it. Nathan walked over to three different spots in the soil each time making a small ball of energy and placing it beneath the soil, he stood back as he was excited. Slowly but surley, three palm trees sprouted from the ground and started growing at a amazing speed until they slowly stopped growing and stood still. "Now this is what I call an Island! It''s my very own desert Island." Amongst the waves softly washing on shore, the rustling of leaves could now be heard. The trees projected a light shadow on the ground making a nice shaded area which almost seemed perfect for a nap, Nathan walked over to one of the trees leaning agaist he closed his eyes and let his worries wash away. Looking at him now, who would of thought he almost just drowned a short while ago and think he is stranded. He didn''t panick, although it can''t be said he wasn''t a little worried, from the knowlege he gained he knew what the Island Seed''s power could help him survive the current situation, and since there was nothing to do whilst waiting for his power to recharge, he relaxed. ***** Nathan awoke up refreshed and he felt like he was full of energy from the Island seed. "Maybe it recharges faster when sleeping? I''ll have to try it out more." Although there were now grass and trees on the island it was still not somewhere something could survive easily, there was no food or drinking water. He then got to work, slowly making the island larger adding more land, more soil and more trees. As time passed the sand also started mizing with the soil as the wind blew through. With more land comes a larger variety, small plants and trees started to grow as well as shrubs and tall grass, it was now feeling a little more wild. Slowly the sun was setting and an orange hue filled the sky, before daylight ended he wanted to make what no desert island could do without. Although it could not be made with the power of the Island Seed there were now plenty of resources to use to make what he needed and quickly got to work as he gathered the things he needed and got to work. As the sun had almost set it was that he was finished, Nathan took a few steps back and opened his arms. "There! Now it''s complete! No desert Island can go without a hamock!" As he said proudly look at a rather nicely made hamock held up between two trees. He couldn''t wait to try it as walked over and unsteadily got into the hamock. "Although it''s akward getting into, this is quite nice. I could get used to this." He rested for but a moment as he still had work to do, although he was still able to see, darkness was upon him, he needed to make a fire. Luckily since he gathered wood from earlier he already had a small stockpile ready to be used and since he had matches in his backpack that was now fully dry, with a bit of effort a fire was made with ease. He poked some holes in a can of food and placed on the fire, he really thought he was quite fortunate from what had happened. He was close to death and now he has gained a power making it easy for him to survive, albeit isolated and alone. He ate the canned food and built the fire up as high as he could without risk of something catching fire and sat in his hamock, slowly drifting away feeling the warmth of the fire. Chapter 3 - Hurricane Chapter 3 - Hurricane Day 2. Nathan awoke early in the morning, the sun just starting to make it''s journey across the sky. He begun his day by staring at the ocean having his breakfast, he decided what he was going to do today. First he had a quick stroll around the island, although it was bigger it still didnt take long to walk around all of it. There was a feeling inside him that told him he needed to make it bigger, and so he did. He then spent the whole day making the island bigger, adding soil, plants and trees, it was no approximately the size of a football field. Even though it now looked like a lush and beautiful island it was still uninhabitable, none of the plants were edible, there were no animals, and not even fish seemed to have shown up off shore. But he even though he was just increasing the size and not much else he started to feel something he didnt realise before, he felt that the Island Seed was growing in energy. Although it was only by a small margin, since the island was bigger definitely could feel a difference. Walking over to the small rock at the center of the island he wanted to see the Seed to see if it had changed at all, but as he got closer and saw it it seemed the same. After having looking at it intently for a while he just barely noticed something different, the light it produced was brighter, it was suttle as he could just barely tell but from looking at it. Some time passed from looking at it and he felt something new appear in his mind, he felt like what he could do with the island just expanded slightly, he wanted to try it out immediately. As his hands started glowing he looked at a place on the ground and motioned with his hands as if he was pulling on something. The next moment a rock formed, he kept pulling as he continued to grow larger until it was the size of large car. He started to the same around him but only making smaller rocks. Not before longer there were a variety of rocks on the island, some were placed on the beach and going into the water making it a nice place to stand and look down into the water. Where he placed the largest rock was also some all tall rocks and he felt like he could so something new, he extended both his hands grasping the air and lifting, the ground inbertween the rocks started to rise and created some elvation. "Now with all this it should give the island a bit more character." *****Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit. Day 3. Today felt some new power within him, he could now mould the island more to his liking, before when he did something it just spread out around him, the island was more or less a circle. Now however he could add details to rocks, trees and even the island itself. With this he stretched out this islands edges, now he made a moon shaped cove within the island, sheltered from the oceanic wind the waves were calmer inside. He also elevated the land on one side of the island turning a beach into a small cliff. He made overhangs on some of the larger rocks in the center of the island creating natural shelters. "Ah!" An idea popped into his head, with all the rocks, elevated land and expanded island it was getting a little harder to find the rock with the Island Seed. This gave him the idea to mould to rock into more of a podium, with the Seed shining sitting atop gloriously. After making a rough podium, without him doing anything the seed shone brightly, then the stone shone as it smoothed over the patters from the Island Seed now wrapped around the stone making it stand out. The light from the rock stop but carvings of the patters made, it was truly a magnificent thing. After admiring it for a moment, he continued on with his work. Using some elevated land and some cleared out space he made a small stream and a pond, the first resource he had made that would allow him to survive. It was a stroke of luck as he had started to run out of the water he had within his backpack, but now with this flowing stream he could relax again. As well as fresh water, edible plants could now be found as well as coconuts on some of the trees. "I can''t wait to try some of them when they''re ready." He was excited, death was slowly getting further away and he was confident that he didnt have to worry. "There''s nothing that could go wrong as long as I have this power." Once Nathan was done basking in his power he then decided to start work on a shelter, a Hamock is great and all but he needed something else. Slowly but surely he started to get some wood and fibres to make a shelter, this put things back into perspective for him, as although he could make an entire island and had everything he needed, he still had to go out and gather everything and put in the effort to make it. He could survive but he still had to work, it wasn''t going to be a free ride. ***** Day 4. Nathan awoke today with a shiver, unlike other days it felt cold as a strong wind was passing through. Looking to the sky it wasnt clear blue skies like usual, dark grey clouds filled the sky. Small water droplets started to splatter on his face, gradually increasing inside and speed. Before he even knew it, it was already thrasing down with rain, he was getting assult from all sides, winds trying to throw him around. *BOOM* *CRASH* *CRACKLE* Lightning struck nearby as thunder roard throughout the sky, a hurricane decnded upon his little island that was not even a week old. He ran for cover like he was in a war zone, charging to the rock which had an overhang trying to take shelter within. Even beneath the overhang didn''t feel safe, but with the power of the Island Seed, he could actually do something about it. His hands glowed and the rocks stretched out wide around him encasing him, only leaving a small entrance where the the wind still came into. Next was to dig inwards, he expanded out the interior as well as downwards creating a fairly spacious cave. It was dark, he could barely make anything out apart from the gloomy light from the entrance, but at least it was safe, this is the only thing he could rely on. Nathan remained there in a huddled position quitely waiting for the storm to pass. He was waiting for a long time.
