《My life in another world - isekai》
1. The beginning
It is a hot summer day afternoon. I was walking down the street that I have walked down upon hundreds of times in my life. I don¡¯t usually like to tell stories about myself, as I don¡¯t really believe to be anything special. Rather, what happened to me, was what was special. Well, I am dead anyway so we have all the time in the world.
I am called Kato, a normal 17-year-old guy who likes to read mangas and read online novels. I live or rather lived, in a small coastal city near Tokyo, it''s called Hitachinaka. The population is roughly 100,000. My life was serene, I wasn''t a complete otaku and had a rather vast quantity of hobbies, in which I had interests in. Firstly I should say that I was born in a family of Kendo practitioners, my dad was an instructor and my mother¡ well, a national champion. At the age of 4, on the day of my birthday, I received my first kendo practice sword. Yeah, talk about expectations¡ But I¡¯ll admit that I really enjoyed swinging the sword, and became rather adept at it. My sparring partner? obviously my little neechan. Little because she was never able to surpass my height although being a year older than me. She got her first sword at the same age as me but she didn''t really enjoy using it too much, although after I got mine, for my parent¡¯s delight, we became sparring partners (if you could call us that, it was more like child''s play) and started our rivalry in kendo.
At my seventh birthday party, I received my first camera. Which leads to my other hobby, which was slow motion. Haah you thought I was gonna say something along the lines of photography or cinematography, but no. Rather, I enjoyed making slow motion videos, and analyze everything that happened in the world around me at a significantly slower speed. Incidentally, right around that time was when I made my first female friend. Hoy! Don''t think of anything lewd, I was still only seven. The girl I befriended in grade school was Itomori. She could probably be the girl of your dreams, silky red hair, a beautiful and innocent smile and more importantly great skills in Krav maga. I know right, fantastic. The first time Iapproached her from behind was the first but also the last one. we were all in class on our first day in our second year of preschool, she was a new kid that wasn''t around in the first year, as she had just transferred there from Israel (although originally being from Japan herself). The class was packed and all of the kids wanted to go meet itomori-chan, but none of them really had the courage to do so. Except for the girls, of course. Well as I saw my opportunity to be able to speak to her first, I went there from the back and extend my arm toward her shoulder to get her attention and BAAAM. I am sitting on the floor with my bleeding nose. Everyone was shocked, even sensei didn''t quite know what to do. Ironically enough, she was the first one to help me get back up. She asked for forgiveness at least 20 times although I did say it was ok at around the second one. Well, whatever the case, she brought me some tissues and escorted me to the nursery. She also stated that she would stay with me until I was taken care of because it was the least she could do. Well besides all that, we were at least able to talk for about 10 minutes as that was the time it took for my bleeding to stop, During that time I came to the understanding of her having a fear of people she doesn''t know, and places she is not familiar with, as a result, she explained that maybe my unexpected touch from her back might have triggered her attack reflexes. Well, I didn''t resent her in the least, rather, I asked her if she could teach me a few of those techniques she used to attack me after school. Her eyes light up in a very scary way.
As agreed upon we met after school in the courtyard in front of the school, where she explained that the martial arts that she used was called Krav Maga and it originated in Israel. I was perplexed at why a seven-year-old girl, would be learning such lethal techniques at such a young age (not that I could say anything) and she explained that it was a treatment that her psychologist suggested to treat her fear of the unknown. We spent the rest of the day talking, which didn''t really end up in me getting taught some super cool moves, but I did befriend Itomori chan, which I was super happy about. From that day onward we were always together in school, and even outside of school. She even taught me Krav Maga during free time as I found it very entertaining, in exchange I taught her kendo, as she was very interested in what I had been learning up until now. It was a fair exchange. For the rest of the year, I can''t exactly say that the rest of the male class population was looking at me with benevolent eyes. The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
During the next three year years of grade school, I improved both my Kendo and my Krav maga exponentially, through the use of my third hobby, slow motion. During practices, I would record myself fighting with Itomori chan, and later during the times when I was alone, I would analyze the moves of my opponent and mine, and later try to incorporate my new findings in the fight with itomori.
At the end of grade school I was able to win my first fight against her, and from there on she would never be victorious again. Although she was quite frustrated by this, it lead to her try even harder and consequently also pushing myself over the limit. Like this our growth in both Krav maga, and kendo was crazy. My parents and oneechan were all very perplexed as well.
During Middle school unfortunately for the first two years, we were placed in different classes which kind of made us distant during the day but we spent more and more time together outside of class. As the years passed we grew and we were already 13. The innocent childhood friend relationship that we had until then had started to collapse because of the different rumors and expectations that were placed upon us by our class. But we managed to hold out until we were both 15, the year we entered high school. To be honest, in a small city, rumors spread fast, and on our first day of school, they labeled us the fighter couple. although neither of us really minded that name, it was obvious that there was now some tension between us, something other than friendship.
During the firework festival that we had during summer, I gather up my courage and invited her on a date. fearing a massive outburst of potential lethal attacks directed towards me I stood with my heart frozen until she looked away and conceded for us to go together to the fireworks festival. Although I wasn''t able to see her expression, I sure couldn''t hold back mine, of absolute joy. Therefore I was really happy she wasn''t looking my way.
The next day we met at around the Dojo and went to the festival together. When we got there I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of people that we encountered, I think that I never saw that many people together all at once. Even Itomori who was mostly able to subdue her fear of unknown people grasped my hand in reflex, and then took it back immediately while blushing bright red and stuttering that it was an accident. I told her that it was better if we did hold hands as we would lose sight of each other if we didn''t, convincing her took no time at all. Although I thought that I was manipulating the situation for my own benefit, the reasoning that I had made also sense so I had no particular feeling of guilt. The night proceeds smoothly until we were able to find a plot of grass for ourselves. The action of laying down side by side was something that we had done many times over up until now, but this time it had a different meaning. We sat down on the towel and gazed up at the stars. The many hundreds of people that were also there for the spectacle disappeared from our vision, as the fireworks started their colorful dance my hand slipped onto hers, for which we both instinctively looked in the direction of the other. Our faces were so close that I could feel her breathing. The outside noises turned muffled and time seemed to slow. We didn''t avert our eyes from each other for even a second, then as she closed her eyes and tilted her head my blood came rushing to my head as my heart had started pumping like never before. what was I supposed to do, what was she trying to do, all these question and doubts rushed into my thoughts. But, as I regained composure I saw again the memories that we shared from childhood and as a roll of film that passed in front of my eyes I recalled every moment that I had spent with her and how much I enjoyed it, as this was occurring in my head, my body started to instinctively move and I closed my eyes as well, our breathing seemed to synchronize and our lips were coming to contact. A surge of electricity burst from inside of me as the pink soft lips of my ex-childhood hood friend was pushing against mine. My first kiss, I thought.
From the day after we were an official couple, although we were still embarrassed to say that in front of others we were super cozy with each other. Just as you''d expect from a teen right?? (nothing lewd yet though!) The one who was even more happy about this development was oneechan who was very delighted to hear that her brother had become a man. Although I knew she was referring to something else, I let it slide which made her mischievous smile even bigger. Well other than that there weren''t many other interesting things that happened in my childhood, well up until right about a few minutes ago.

2. My death
Two years had passed since itomori became my official girlfriend and every day of my life had become full of joy I was extremely happy for that. Yesterday, the first strange occurrence happened in the town. the news said that a wanted group of illegal mercenaries were able to get into town and were exploiting the citizens for a hideout. This was indeed something very strange, as our city is relatively quiet most of the time, except for small crimes such as robbery and the likes.
During my return from school I noticed that Itomori chan looked extremely distressed and on the verge of crying, although we always helped each other if the other was in need, this was the first time that itomori isn''t opening up to me. I thought it was weird, but she said it was nothing, although I didn''t like to pry in her stuff this time it really looked like she was in dire need of help, so I tried to ask again, but instead of negating that she didn''t need help, she ran off crying toward the courtyard where we used (and still did) train krav maga. Obviously, after I ran after her I found her curled up sobbing behind one of the big trees. Instead of trying to force her anymore I instead opted to first calm her down by putting around my jacket and hugging her from the front, for which she clung onto my shirt and continued her muffled cries with her head buried in my chest.
After she was able to calm down, she decided that it would be best if I knew the situation and so she started explaining to my great surprise. Remember the mercenary group that we talked about, yeah, they took itomori¡¯s family hostage, and don''t plan on going anywhere anytime soon. She said that they beat her grandpa and even raped her mom to which dad couldn''t do anything, she broke down crying again as she said that the only reason they didn''t rape her too was because she had to keep going to school to keep a facade. Realizing the significance of these words I didn''t think about it twice and asked her if she knew how many they were in total. after getting the most amount of information I was able to conclude this much:If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it.
number of mercenaries:
leaders:
hostages:
To calm her down further and to get her back to her normal state I told her that we were going to liberate everyone, to which her usual scary sparkling gaze appeared again.
The only problem? During the mission, I was shot and killed by the last of the mercenaries.
Luckily itomori was able to take him down but only after I got shot by him in the abdomen. To be honest I was pretty sure that I was going to survive, as you usually see guys in movies surviving after only a shot in the stomach but this wasn''t the case, as the projectile penetrated into my spleen ripping it apart and causing an incredible infection. Added to the loss of blood I died a few minutes before they could get me to the hospital. At least it looks like I died in her lap, while she was crying over me. I can¡¯t exactly say I dislike the way I died, but oh well...
And that leads us to now.

3. Reincarnation
So, now I am not exactly sure of where I am or to be more exact what I am. I have a conscience but I don¡¯t feel a body. And I am not even entirely sure for how long I have been floating in this darkness for. Is this the afterlife? An eternal darkness encompassing my being? If this is it then it¡¯s going to be quite lonely. But at least I am not really able to feel any emotions either. Is it because I am not human anymore, it is quite peaceful. No fear, no regret, no needs nor wants. Its as if I am complete. I continued floating for who knows how long, thinking about my past and all the possible futures without me, who would miss me, who would not and stuff like that. Not necessarily that I cared though, I didn''t care about anything, but strangely I wasn''t going mad. I was in a state that couldn''t advance nor regress. After waiting again whoever knows how long, I was going to give up on hoping for anything to happen and was almost resigned to this passive existence as a harsh bright light shone from above. I mean not that I had any sense of direction either. From this pure white light I felt a strong pull and my being was slowly getting sucked towards it, after completely getting engulfed by the white I hear: ¡° WELCOME NEW WANDERING SOUL¡±. as I scan the place for any sign of life an enormous leg almost squashed me like a fly, missing me only by a few inches. to which apologetically the voice resounds: ¡°OH I AM SORRY LITTLE ONE, I ALMOST COULDN''T SEE YOU THERE, HERE TAKE THIS SHAPE¡±. To those words my being was sucked in from a mouth of a gigantic human, strangely enough, I wasn''t eaten though. I took control of the body. to which the voice now sounding way more human says: ¡°Haaaah, finally I found you, sorry about that. It doesn''t happen often to lose a soul¡±
Huh. Did she just say lose a soul? ¡°What do you mean¡± - I ask, finally being able to speak to the giant which was a girl with silver hair, looking a bit older than me, with her skin a beautiful snow white color. ¡°Oh well, first of all, I am the Goddess of life, death, and rebirth. SHIVA¡±.
¡°Oh, so I am dead huh, I expected that much.¡± - ¡°Whaaat, you are so composed why is that? I just told you that you died.¡± - ¡°Well yeah, but I can''t really feel any emotions as of now, is this an after effect of dying or something?¡± - ¡°Ohh, so that''s what it is, no normally you don''t lose your emotions upon arriving here, it''s just that I lost you while trying to get your soul up here and you fell down in the limbo. sorry about that.¡± - ¡°Oh, so the black thing down below was the limbo up until now?¡± - ¡°Yep.¡± - ¡° Ah, so what''s going to happen now? And did you just say you lost me?¡± - ¡°ah¡ well¡ you know, there well a lot of people dying in that instant and that really troubled me you know¡ so¡¡± - ¡°Ok, I get it, whatever. What now?¡± - ¡°Well, aren''t you straight to the point, well I better explain what''s going to happen to you anyway. The lost emotions that were sucked in by the darkness are gradually going to come back, so while we wait for your humanity to come back I will tell you how much time has passed since your death, and what you are going to do from now. It''s better to do it now as you don''t have any emotions.¡± - ¡°ok, I understand¡± - ¡°very well, so the time that has passed since your death is 2489 years.¡± - ¡°......ah. so, everyone, I know already died?¡± - ¡°Indeed they have already died just like you but I didn''t lose their soul in a limbo, so when they did die I just reincarnated them in the best thing I saw them fit as. This has happened many times over, so calling them the same people that you knew once before wouldn¡¯t quite fit, but if you are interested I can tell you what happened straight after your death¡± - ¡°please do so¡± - ¡° very well, a few days after your death the town decided to create a day for you, to remember the heroic actions that were taken by the fighter couple. The police decided to award you a medal of honor (post-mortem). The people closest to you such as your family and friends weren''t able to get over your death for many years to come. And as you can imagine, the one who felt the most responsible for your death was your girlfriend. She was supported by everyone close to her, even your parents who didn''t reprimand her at all. and thus she was able to get up from her depression that lasted a few years. Although she able to find a new partner only after twenty years after that, and never went over the deal completely until her death. You were dearly loved Kato.¡± - to those sentences, a warm liquid started descending on my cheek and I could feel those so-called lost emotions returning one by one. Fear, grief, regret, joy, anger, envy and many others. ¡°Very well I see your humanity came back Kato. Now let''s get to the most important subject. For me to lose a soul is a deed that is unforgivable, and I must greatly apologize for it, thus Kato-san, I would like to make an offer. A gift to you, in a way to repent my mistake.¡± - ¡° sniff, a ghi-hi- ft?¡± - ¡°Yes, I would like to offer you a new life with your current memories in a new world. The new world is one with sorcery, magic, dragons, demons, fairies and much more. Obviously, I would also grant you a few skills that I selected myself. The race in which you would be born in would be chosen by you though. So how does it sound?¡± - ¡°sniff, sniff. aheemm, sorry about that. ah, let''s seeeee. A fantasy world huh? Well, I guess that would be fun, although wouldn''t it also be quite dangerous?¡± - ¡° worry not, first of all, don''t you remember what kind of training you had in your former life? Obviously, I would transfer all of those skills to you in your next life too. As an extra, I will give you the aptitude for all magic, and a strength-boosting skill that you will be able to hone with time and practice. Even more, I would like to give you A special skill of the gods, bestowed upon only a few humans: ¡®Appraisal¡¯ that lets you identify with a description everything in the new world, obviously, it would be more useful in battle though.¡± - ¡°hmmm, well it does sound like a nice proposal, but what would be my other option?¡± - ¡°ah that, well erasing all your current memories and re-incarnate on earth.¡± - ¡°ok¡ I will go with the first option¡¡± - ¡°heeeee! I knew you would say that! Very well, then the next thing to do is for you to choose which race you will be born in.¡± - ¡°uh, ok. But what and which are the races?¡± - ¡° ah right, sorry. Forgot that Sektar is not your original world. Okkk, so the races of sektar are the many humanoid like, species that roam Sektar, humans included. This is the list:Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on Royal Road.
Races:
- Superior higher elves - extinct
¡°so which one is the most to your liking, Kato-kun?¡± - said the goddess, winking at the still flustered Kato. ¡°uhhh, why are the superior higher elves extinct? and does that mean I won''t be able to reincarnate into one?¡± - ¡°well, they went extinct because they decided to do so¡ uuhhh it''s complicated, let¡¯s just leave it at that. And that means that you won''t be able to reincarnate into one of them, yes. Although I know you have probably a lot of questions on all of the different races, I would like you to listen to my recommendation. I think you should reincarnate as one of the ¡®white ones¡¯. The white ones are in a sense a species, of humans, who although were once human, evolved into a higher existence because of their location. The white ones or actually the humans that later evolved into white ones settled down in the north of Sektar, which is an area greatly known for the high mana levels, strong beasts that reside there and the Dragonkin of the North, that share the land with the white ones.¡± - ¡° does this mean that there are more dragonkin?¡± - ¡°ah yes, quite the perceptive one eh? It''s the ¡®dragonkin of the north¡¯ ¡®dragonkin of the south¡¯ and ¡®dragonkin of the middle regions¡¯. Although they aren¡¯t very different in total strength their attributes greatly vary depending on their location in Sektar, such as the ones in the north Have strong attributes with the cold and the ice. You will understand better once you get there. Oh and by the way, the white ones are in a sense a neutral group, that does not have any problems with the actual humans and any of the other races, strangely enough, not even with the demons. I would guess that if you wanted a peaceful start that is the best place to start at. So what do you think?¡± - ¡°ok. I will be in your care¡± - ¡°Very well, then I will send you down immediately, don¡¯t forget that I also added a secret skill. I think you will like it a lot.¡± - said goddess sama giggling. ¡°Wait, what do you mean by tha--¡± as I was finishing my sentence I was engulfed by total darkness again, but this time I could feel my body and it looks like I am inside of a slime bucket or something similar to that. As I was thinking of what was going on, I start to see a light, and it grew bigger and bigger. And in a swift ¡®plop¡¯, I was born into a new world.

4. Life in Sektar
It has been four years since my reincarnation and I still feel weird about it. In these four eyes, I was able to gather a bunch of information regarding this world and its languages which will probably come in handy later on. Right now, the white ones are living in a snowy range of mountains, the climate is really harsh but if you can get used to it, this style of life has some beautiful aspects to it. So now about my race, the white ones have a lifespan several times longer than that of normal humans, this is because of all the mana that our bodies absorb during our childhood years, which supposedly have a great beneficiary effect. Our skin is a bit white-ish although I would rather call it grey-blue. Most of my people have a great amount of stamina and mp. Oh, by the way, the white ones are not exactly nomads, they have cities in which they settled down, they are quite developed and are also extremely good merchants. I didn''t think that would have been the case as initially our race, is a fighting type race, but oh well. anyway, I discovered that there is a main common language in Sektar, that is used in most kingdoms as the official language, but there are also all the other languages of the races. yes¡ every race has a different language besides the common one, even we do, although our''s doesn''t differ that much from the common one. The elves share one with the dark elves although they aren''t living together. I believe their case is similar to our¡¯s and normal humans. Now about the kingdoms. I won''t dwell in the politics too much because I couldn''t get most of it either, but as it seems there are currently four kingdoms in Sektar and a bunch of other smaller communities and lesser-countries. The three main kingdoms are all located in the middle regions of Sektar and they are all on fairly good terms with each other. I understood that there is an enormous dungeon that spreads all underground the middle regions, and it has only one entrance that is at the only mountain found in the middle regions, it is also the residence of the Dragonkin we talked about with goddess-sama. If I got it correctly the humans need to ask permission from the Dragonkin to enter the dungeon but for the last few hundreds of years there has been pact between the three kings and the Dragonkin leader, that lets the humans use the dungeon as they like as long as the Dragonkin are left alone. Well, this is all the info I could get¡ not like I could read the language so don''t blame me if this is not enough. Anyway, it looks like my fifth birthday party is being held tomorrow and apparently they decided to make me take the childhood passing trial a year early.
By the way, goddess sama isn''t completely truthful, my mother is a beautiful elf who lived for more than 300 years, so I believe that truly, I am a half-elf and half white one in reality. My parents use this as an excuse whenever I beat an older kid in the fighting tournaments. These tournaments are allegedly supposed to mark your standing in society, but they are all practice until you turn 16. Back to my birthday party. Our house is a one-story building made of a special alloy called obsidian, which is extremely hard, and difficult to process. Luckily the white ones are the only race that has mastered its processing and we use that bargaining chip a lot of transactions and what not. Our house has a dark outside but inside it''s completely different. To mask the outside sheet of obsidian that is apparently only used as a shield, inside the house they use concrete, wood, and normal materials, creating a normal - looking European house. Our house has four rooms, my bedroom, my parent¡¯s bedroom, the lounge and the kitchen. all bathroom activities are done in a separate building outside. then in the corner of the lounge, there is a small set of stairs that lead down to the bathing area. Strangely, the lounge is directly connected to a cave with thermal water. Now we are all gathered in the lounge around a big table where we usually eat. ¡°Son, tomorrow you will perform the childhood passing ritual, I know that it is a year early but I believe that our Gorrad will have no problem at all.¡± - ¡°Yes father, please let me.¡± (oh by the by, Gorrad is my new name here on this world, which also means: fire warrior in the ancient tongue). ¡°I understand your high esteem towards your son Dion, but I don¡¯t want my son to get killed because of that¡± - said with a dissatisfied expression Melfia, my mother. ¡°that is not the case dear, our son has shown his extreme capabilities, I believe that we would only hinder his growth by not letting him do the ritual early¡±. - ¡°Is that so¡± - said, mother, while giving up. I go there and hold her hand, look up to her in the eyes and say: ¡°mother, thank you for worrying about me, but I believe what dad said to be correct, please let me do it.¡± - I already knew that she had given up, but I didn''t want to end things just like that, after all, she had always supported me through these five years. ¡°yes, I understand Gorrad. You might become an even greater warrior than your father- My dad let out a big laugh, but my mother continued - but this doesn''t mean that I won''t be your mother anymore, so I will always worry about you, make sure to come back.¡± - ¡°Yes, mother¡±. Her blonde hair is as pretty as always, I think while taking in everything that she said with gratitude. Now, what is this trial that we have been talking about? well, I gotta adventure out of town and wyvern cub or a wild blue bear. They are both extremely dangerous animals when grown up but if I only have to fight them as cubs, my chances of success rise exponentially. First of all, don''t mistake me, the average human won''t even survive 30 seconds while fighting one these, it is only because we are sturdy as a race, and of my intensive training that I am able to face these two. The wyvern will probably be around my height and won''t be able to fly yet as the mating season was only a few weeks back, but if I will have to fight a blue bear, then he will most likely be two times my height, which is quite frightening. Well, I¡¯ll see what I can do tomorrow, for now, I should practice controlling my mana flow, which I started learning about at four years old when I was finally able to read the characters of the common language. You could be reading stolen content. 5. The trial
I head out early in the morning, a snow blizzard was just subsiding but there were still some freezing gusts of wind. I prepared all of my equipment for a worst case scenario so I wasn''t really worried about the cold anyways:
armor:
- leather reinforced jacket and pants
- fur coat made from a wolf that I killed beforehand
weapons:
- single edged Ivory knife with an iron handle crafted from one of the wolf¡¯s tusks
- a double-edged medium length sword from Father¡¯s collection
other:
- sack with basic necessities
The sun was still only halfway above the horizon, the beautiful glittering of the falling snow mixed with the orange rays of the sun made for a spectacle with no rivals. I love it.
I start walking away from the still sleeping village and head outside the protective city walls. The two guards on standby give me some words of encouragement and with that, they open the big heavy metal doors.
The village is located on a strategic point from where you could see the entirety of a basin, with a big hill in the middle, on top of it, the village. They say that this was a big lake a long time ago but as the cold began, the basin turned to ice and little by little it was excavated and sold as a material to the merchants and used as a water supply. I slide down on of the sides of the hill heading towards the closest lair of Wyverns that I know of. I arrive at the bottom of the old lake and make myself way through big chunks of ice that made for an incredibly hard to walk on terrain. arrived at the other side I feel a presence of a monster, silently squatting down, I slid to a nearby bush, and wait anxiously. This isn''t my first time hunting but it is my first time doing it alone. I hear the crackling of a few tree branches and look in the direction of the sound. there, a boar about the size of a human kid is eating the few berries that can be found around here. I decide that this boar might make for a good lunch, but then decide not to kill as it would be a pain to drag along for a long way. I pick up the closest rock and throw it near the boar. The boar immediately reacting to the sound escapes in the depths of the evergreen forest. I get up and continue the walk. If I remember correctly the wyvern lair is supposed to be at the other end of the forest Inside a cave on the start of the mountain. I decide that it''s best to continue through the forest rather than going around it as it would take too much time. This forest, in particular, is around the whole lake except in a few points where the merchants and the city folk cut down the trees to create passing points for the arriving and departing merchants. the forest is called: ¡®the forest of the night¡¯, as during the night time there are strong monsters that come out from the caves that lead to an underlying dungeon called Kratos. I¡¯ve never been in the dungeon myself as they say that it''s too dangerous for anyone under 16, so I have to wait for my coming of age ceremony. This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author''s work.
I walk into the dark forest that blocks most of the sunlight, my eyes adapt quickly to the change and I speed up my pace, the reason is that I have no wish of staying here during the nighttime. I run on the shallow snow and through the trees and the few scattered bushes, always keeping an eye on my surroundings. After a while, I feel like I made quite the progress and arrive to the middle of the forest. I don''t feel tired at all, even after running for around an hour incessantly. This is because of my half-elven-half-white one blood circulating in my veins, and the training that I had for about a year now. The middle of the forest is easy to recognize as it has big rocks sticking out from the ground at fairly even distances from each other. The almost perfect sequence is quite eerie in itself. But, the scarier part is that the dungeon entrances are usually under one these boulders, if I look for it I might find the entrance, but that is not what I came for. I rest a while sitting on one the big rocks and analyze my surrounding. I notice a few goblins that are fighting with a small pack of black fangs, the wolf species from which I made my coat from, but decided not to interfere. During the one year of training that I had, I realized that every living being has a mana force in this world. When I killed my first prey I noticed a strange power that surged into me and realized that when you kill a living being in this world you get its mana power and part of its strength. When I asked my parents about this phenomena they looked quite surprised and told me that realizing that at this young age is quite rare. Which pretty much means that I have a very good affinity with mana and magic.
I hop off the big rock and continue running towards the other side of the forest.
On the way there I catch a glimpse of the sun and it looks like its about 10:00 already. And yes the time here is pretty much the same as on earth, a day here is made up of 24 kask which is roughly 24 hours. Next time I see an edible monster I¡¯ll take it down. And just as I think about that a two-meter long winter snake appears before me, it immediately attacks from upfront bearing its venomous folding fangs. I quickly jump to the side evading its attack and take out my longsword. This monster is best fought at a distance, a drop of its venom can paralyze you in an instant. With that, I take my fighting stance and wait silently. The snake is analyzing the situation as it didn''t expect me to evade the attack, after a few moments of silence the snake starts an attack towards my legs, being almost triple than me in length, if it got the chance to twist around me, it would be a matter of time and I would most certainly fall prey to its strength, I jump forward aiming my sword at the head of the snake, then slash down on my opponent faking that my sword gets stuck in the ground, the snake evades the slash and is now behind me, as expected. The snake raises his head from the ground baring its fangs again, certain of victory... I quickly turn around at the last moment before the snake could bite me, and with a diagonal slash I cut the snake in two horizontally. The body of the snake falls onto the snow in front of my feet, creating a small puddle of blood. ¡°Ah lunch finally¡±
After setting camp and roasting the meat of the snake, I ate about ? th and decided to keep the rest for a later date. After erasing all of the traces of me ever being here I headed off again. After about 30 minutes of running, I finally saw the end of the forest. Now I am standing just at the last rows of trees observing a very unnatural scenario. There was a pack of hobgoblins riding on about 30 black fangs. Hobgoblins are usually extremely stupid, just like normal goblins, rarely they are able to learn the common language and thereafter become the leader of the pack, but this time it looks like the leader must be a really developed one. At this moment I understood that the simple goblins that I saw back in the forest were actually trying to capture the wolves not kill them. This is quite problematic if their forces are going to increase they will become a constant threat to the merchants and travelers. I¡¯d better report this to father when I get back.
I patiently wait for the group to pass and then run to the start of the mountain, the mountain got fairly steep after only about 20 meters. But if I remember correctly there should be a whole on the ground around here¡ The description of the location stated that the wyverns had a whole like cave lair that should be around here. I climb up as much as I can and scan the area below me, after 10 seconds I spot a black patch of ground, as I slowly get closer to it, it becomes obvious that there is no ground there but just the darkness of the cave. Now that I found the entrance I decide that it''s time for hunting.
6. The hunt
I quickly walked to the edge of the hole, looking into it. I grab a nearby stone and drop it. After about four seconds an impact sound resonated within the cave.
Not too deep.
I get out the rope that I prepared specifically for this situation. I quickly tie one side of the rope onto a nearby stone. I pull it multiple times to make sure that it can hold my weight.
All set,
I grab the rope and slowly start backing into the hole. With small jumps I lower myself, letting the rope slide between my leather gloves. After about two minutes of descending into the pit, I decide to create a white orb of light, the only magic that I was taught how to use until now. They say that every member of the white ones has at least a magical affinity to light magic (which is also healing magic) so they make the kids learn a few basic spells at an early age.
The white orb illuminates my imminent surrounding, the ground was less than 10 meters away but the rope only went on for about five. I slide down and grab on the last bit of rope, then I start oscillating. I kick my legs forward and then backward. I do this in a rhythmic sequence just as I did in my other life on the swing. after 10 swings I am able to reach both extremities of the tube-like pit. Then, without letting the rope go I start running on the walls in a circle. With my physical abilities, it doesn''t take long to reach a speed where I can maintain myself on the wall. I let the rope go and descend the five leftover meters while running down in circles.
At a meters distance, I slow down until the wall doesn''t have a grip on me anymore and jump towards the center of the pit while bracing for impact. I roll on the ground for a few seconds and then come to a break.
¡°feww, that was quite nerve-racking¡±
I bring the white orb to my hand and turn around to see for any openings. Certainly, there is a Big O-shaped cave entrance on the wall. I restrict my mana input and dim the white orb. ¡®so this is the lair? I don''t know the number of wyverns that could be inside but they are probably more than enough to tear me to shreds. Adult wyverns don''t usually nest in the lair with many of the same species, this is a special case as their mating season just ended and the baby wyverns are just starting to hunt on their own. When the smaller wyverns will become independent the Adult ones will return to their original nests which are around the Northern territories.
¡®Aaaaah, this is the worst possible time to attack a wyvern nest! there are at least two adult ones and probably about five smaller ones. My only possibility for victory is to get only one¡¯s attention and make it come out here. After I defeat it I can tie onto my back or to the end rope.¡¯ YOSSHI
I gather 10 small stones that lay around the bottom of the pit and put them in my sack. I move the orb in front of me and start walking into the second inner cave. I stay alert, waiting for any movement or sound. Nothing.
I continue to walk forward and sure enough, I hear the screams of the wyverns. Their screams were not normal though, their shrieking gave me chills to the bones. These were sounds of pain. Whatever happened the wyverns were in a lot of pain.
I decide to investigate further moving from one stone to another I disperse the white orb as I start to see the light of a lit torch. The closer I get, the stronger the screams.
After a few quick paced runs, I arrive at a point where I could see a macabre scene unfolding in front of my eyes.
The two adult wyverns were both opened up with their intestines hanging out from them. One of the two had its head cut off and the other its eyes gouged out. The smaller wyverns were in similar conditions except for two that were still alive. The first one was the wyvern that could be heard shrieking for the whole time. Two heavy armored men were peeling off the scales of the wyvern one by one while keeping it alive to suffer. Its wings were pierced with two swords and stuck to the ground. With each scale that was peeled off blood gouged from the hole. It¡¯s whole body completely tainted with the red color of blood. This novel is published on a different platform. Support the original author by finding the official source.
I looked away feeling ill. I held my hand to my mouth as I was trying to breathe normally and calm myself down. I slowly calm myself and try to analyze the situation. The two criminals are most likely going to sell the scales, as they fetch quite the high price in the market. the only problem is that tearing off the scales of the adults is too complicated so they usually sell only the baby wyvern scales.
The two men are most likely criminals, their tattoos on the back of the bald head represents the prison of the city, each convict receives a tattoo in the back of their head after they shave off all their hair. Depending on the crime they committed there are numerous tattoos. these two both had the murderer tattoos. A red circle with a skull in it.
I look back at the scene, the wyvern had stopped its shrieking and now lay collapsed on the ground. The two looked satisfied but nonetheless kept tearing off the scales of the lesser draconic creature. The other wyvern was also pierced down with two swords and was probablywaitingg for the same fate as the other one.
This is something I shouldn''t do but¡ my disgust towards the scene that unfolded before me had settled into my brain and was now turning into a strong hatred. My blood started boiling inside of me as I tried to calm myself without success. You might think that I have no reason to do so as I was gonna kill one anyways, but this is different from that. The monsters hunt for survival and I kill either for food or for my standing in society. Either way, I don¡¯t do it just for fun and I don¡¯t torture the animals before finishing them off.
I take out the sword and slowly move towards the two. I already found an opening in the aromors of the two. They had taken off their helmets as they probably believed to be safe, but this led me to see their tattoos and to find a clear opening. I raise my sword and swing it down on the skull of the human. The sword smashes down with an incredible force destroying the skull and gushing out parts of brain matter. The other man looks at his comrade falling onto the ground with a dumbfounded expression. Next, I take out my knife and throw it straight at the man. The man who regained his composure blocks the knife with the left arm. The knife penetrated the arm and pierced through the other end.
¡°GAAAAAAH FUUUUCK¡±
The man shouts in pain, he gawks at me in disbelief. Obviously seeing such a five year old child is quite disturbing I think in my mind. I lift the sword from the previous man¡¯s head and jump onto the second bandit with a vertical slash. The man perries and falls backwards.
¡°Ah, I get it now. You stupid brat are from the village of the whites.¡±
¡°so what?¡±
¡°Nothing, explains your strength. But strength alone is nothing against my experience, die at the hands of Garas!¡±
The man launches forwards with an intent to pierce my heart, I easily parry his attack and with my free hand, I punch him with everything I have, the man''s chest cracks and caves in. The man is sent flying for for meters and when he hits the ground he is already dead.
I look around and find the torch on the ground near the body of the tortured wyvern. The wyvern is a bit bigger than my size. Even as a small one the Wyvern is bigger than me. When they grow up, their height can reach even three meter. They are sometimes used for transport or in the military as a mount. Although they are extremely hard to tame and thus cost loads of money.
I look at the only survivor, a wyvern exactly my size silently stares at me in pain. His green scales reflect the bright red of the torch, his eyes as piercing as a thousand needles. I slowly walk towards it. I raise my sword prepared to kill it.
¡°I can¡¯t¡±
Not after what I saw. I put the sword back into the scabbard. I go around the wyvern and lift one of the swords that tie the wyvern down. The monster shrieks in pain. I quickly place my hand over the wound on its wing and heal it with light magic. The wyvern turned to face not sure how to act. It let out a shriek to intimidate me. His other wing is still stuck but if he wanted to he could have inflicted a lot of wounds upon me already. I pull off the glove on my right hand and slowly raise it to the face of the wyvern. The wyvern continues to shriek but still doesn''t attack with his good wing nor with his razor sharp teeth. If he wanted to he could have taken my whole arm already I think in my head.
The wyvern stops itself. He smells my hand with a few puffs from his nose. ¡®I hope he regards me as a friend because I killed those other two, I pray in my heart.¡¯ it then gently proceeds to push my hand with its face and lowers his head. I place my hand on its head, and gently pat it. The wyverns moves a bit back but accepts my hand.
I then decide that it''s time to take the other sword out too. I move to the other side of the wyvern and lift the other sword, immediately after I start healing its wing.
And now what¡ I think, not completely at ease with the situation. I grab a carcass of one of the wyverns and put in on my back, i turn to face the wyvern that accepted my pat and give him an abundant amount of the snake that I killed earlier. I throw the piece of the snake and he catches it with his mouth. Not even chewing huh? The wyvern puffs from his nose with a happy look on his face. I turn around and start heading out.
7. Appraisal in Tarnarok
I climb out of the pit with the wyvern on my back, unfortunately, the other wyvern is still following me around. ''haaaaaa''. If this continues I will have to give it a name.
I start running towards the forest, the sun was already starting to go behind the mountain. I look behind me to make sure if the wyvern is still following me or not and for my relief I see nothing. Unluckily I hear a familiar screech above my head.
¡°its. flying¡¡±
Well, whatever at least I can raise a wyvern? I guess. doesn''t matter, if I have to, then I will make it the strongest wyvern ever. In that instant, I decided to call it ¡°Zelos¡±. Zelos was also one of the winged enforcers of Zeus in Greek mythology. I think that suits him.
I continue my run in the forest, knowing the dangers of the night keeps me going at full speed. After only forty minutes of incessant running, I get out the other side of the forest. I look back and see the sun just disappearing behind the mountains. ''that was quite the run'' I say, feeling actually tired for the first time in a long while.
I turn back to face Tarnarok the village of the whites. Its quite imposing if you look at it from down here, I mumble. I start walking on the ice and ignite a white orb at the same time. Whenever the sun disappears, darkness follows soon after up in the mountains.
After 10 minutes I am in front of the city gates. The same guards as in the morning wave at me and open the doors.
"yo how was the hunt Gorrad, I heard this was your trial huh?" exclaimed cheerfully the younger and evidently less experienced guard.
"Went well" - I show him the wyvern on my back
"yeah that''s Gorrad for you"
"that is not all though." I put two fingers in my mouth and whistle.
At that, the green wyvern descends from the sky and while blowing up snow from the ground comes to my side. I look at the guards.
Both of them with their swords ready for battle gawk at the just landed wyvern.
"I named him Zelos by the way. I found him injured in a cave, tended his injuries and now he won''t leave my side." - I say. I mean it is not a lie, is it? They wouldn''t believe me anyway if I told them that I defeated two murder tattooed criminals.
"that is Gorrad for you..."
"yep" - exclaims even the seasoned guard
I walk in the city with my loot and head towards the residence of my family. The whole city of Tarnarok had only one double floored building, and it was the town hall. This was mostly because of the strong blizzards that are able to tear down any badly constructed building, even a single floored one. My house is behind the town hall so it is relatively protected. As I walk through the white orb illuminated streets, Beastmen, Elves, Humans, dragonkin and White ones all chat and buy things happily. Tarnarok is famous for being one of the most open-minded cities in the continent, although small sized it still houses a jaw-dropping five races. Other than here, most cities are brutally discriminatory, mainly human ones.
I continue to walk past the fantasy-like scenery that I will never get bored of, as giant lizard carried wagons pass through the town''s street.
I finally arrive in front of my house and open the front door. A maid comes rushing to the entrance and quickly calls for father who comes in a completely white tunic. His grey beard surely fits his gigantic muscles that can be seen through the short sleeved tunic.
"So you passed my child?" - said father, in a non-surprised manner.
"yes father, I also made a companion, I left him in the stall as he is too big to bring inside." - I explain in a relaxed tone to which my dad raises an eyebrow
"a companion you say? What species, is it perhaps a black fang?"If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
"a wyvern"
"what!? You are saying that you tamed a wyvern at five years of age??" - said father in a tone that I never heard before
I place the dead wyvern on the floor and call for Zelos through a whistle. The wyvern quickly comes to my side lowering his head. I slowly pet him.
"incredible... Melfia! Melfia come here quick!!" shouted dad as he called for the blond elf.
Quick steps were heard from the other room and fast enough the beautiful blond haired elf that was my mother came through the door.
"wha what is a wyvern doing here??"
"calm down Melfia, Gorrad tamed it."
"what? that is..."
"its okay mother, I saved his life and I think he is showing me his gratitude."
"is. that. so... Well, very well." said mother regaining her composure.
"let it sleep in the stall, we have more important things to discuss now Gorrad. You succeeded in your trial, right?"
"Yes."
More important? Did I do something wrong before going away? I try to remember but can''t find anything that would have made them angry.
"Gorrad, as usual to the traditions, after your first trial, the priest of the village comes and reads your status through appraisal. Its an important ceremony where you will be introduced to the world of skills."
"the world of skills?" I ask dumbfounded. If I recollect correctly, the goddess Shiva did grant me the Appraisal skill but I was never able to use it. Is it because I had not done the initiation?
"how does the priest have the Appraisal skill, father?" I ask
"It is not like the priest has the Appraisal skill, its the orb that the church forges that has the skill embedded within it. The priest comes only to read what the orb is able to tell. You see the orb has the skill and the priest is the translator."
"ah, I understand father." I lie
What the hell, so now objects can have skills. And what is this about translating, is it written in another language?
Surely enough, I figure out that it was. It was in Kanji. The priest came as foretold and we held the initiation, the priest was now writing down my skills. I peaked at the inside of the orb and saw a floating sheet-like paper where you could read everything about me. written. in. Kanji! What?? I was struck with so many questions all at once that I couldn''t even start to sort them out.
After two seconds of that, I feel that my body is enveloped in a blinding white light for a few seconds and I hear a familiar voice say "good luck on your adventures Kato, or rather Gorrad." It was the goddess. A few moments after that the white light dispersed and everyone looked at me with joy.
"You have completed the initiation Gorrad" explained my mother
"You will now be able to check your skills wherever you are" added Father with a delighted smile on his face.
"thank you mother, Father. I will work my best" I exclaim with joy filling my heart. So this is where it starts? I ask myself.
"I finished writing down your skills Gorrad, I know you can check them on your own now, but its a tradition to see the first paper written by the priest with the family. Don''t worry, I can''t tell anyone about what I see. I promised on the god Shiva.
"oh, ok" I dont think I have anything to hide anyway
the priest starts reading the paper:

"hmmm, I have heard of these hidden skills before, but I have never seen one in my life." says the priest.
"And what is with swordsmanship as Mastered!? Were you training in secret Gorrad?" asks father astonished
"ahhh, I forgot to tell you"
"My baby! I knew you were strong as your father!" said Mother while embracing me in a tight hug.
"ha, we will see about that." snorts father, as usual.
"You know Gorrad, the average STR, VIT, and AGI are usually all around ten for normal humans. For us white ones they are around 20, so that means that you are incredibly strong Gorrad, use that strength well" he adds
We then have a short discussion, and the priest explains what everything means to me. I just nod continuously because I pretty much understand it all from my previous life.
"Thank you for coming, Sir. Bal!" Shouts mother while waving towards the leaving priest. I go to my room and jump on my bed, exhausted.
''haaa, what a day. I think I had to tell something important to father... what was it... well whatever, I will do it in the morning. I also have to check those hidden skills, I wonder what they are." I block the mana stone that acts as a power supply to the white orb in my room and drop on my bed.
8. Adventurers guild
I wake up at around twelve and look outside the reinforced window.A light snowfall restricts the visibility to afewhundredmeters, but it can be seen that the streets are already busy with stalls and merchants. I get off my bed and put on my usual white tunic and brown pants. I leave the leatherreinforced jacket on my chair.
I walk out of my room and head towards the kitchen
"Good morning mother," I say to my mom who was busy cleaning plates.
"good morning Gorrad, I prepared some salamander eggs for you, there are already on the table."
"again?" I ask perplexed "its the fourth time in these pastfour days mother, cant we have something else?"
"Gorrad, your father bought 10 salamander eggs accidentally. We all have to help him finish them up, today is the last day of eggs okay?"
"understood" I start to dig in the fried salamander egg that tasted quite like the usual chicken egg from my former world, except that its three times bigger...
"Mother, I will go check upon Zelos and then join the adventurers guild."
"okay do just tha- what?? What do you mean join the adventurers guild? you are too small for that!"
"Mother, the AG doesn''t have an age restriction, just a lvlrestriction. I asked father and he told me that the lvlrestriction for an E ranked adventurer is 8, and I am already lvl18."
"well that is certainly true but you are still five years old Gorrad, your father and I won''tallow you to join until you are at least 12."
"Father already allowed me yesterday though."
"wha" - mother was shocked, anger and fury could be seen in her beautifulgreen eyes. She is quite scary when she is angry.
"very well, then I will allow you too, but at a few conditions. will you accept?"
"I didn''thear the conditions yet mother."
"I can''t believe you are five years old... anyways, the conditions are:
- you can never do a request on your own
- You cannot do requests that are higher than D rank. Even if you have the rank of SS adventurer, you won''tdo anything that is too dangerous, understood?"Did you know this story is from Royal Road? Read the official version for free and support the author.
sigh, at leastshe is letting me do it. Last time she didn''teven want to hear about it. "Understood mother."
"good, now, go to your father, he is probably in the town hall talking with some slimy merchants, he will introduce you to your future party member."
With that, I walk back to my room, put on my reinforced jacket, and on top the fur coat. I secure the sword to my waist and head out, throwing the sack onto my shoulder.
I start walking towards the stable. the stable was a two and a half meters tall wooden shelter. Inside, our family had a horse and now a wyvern. The wyvernwas placed in the furtherend of the shelter, so the horse would not feel as threatened.
I whistle with my two fingers in my mouth, and Zelos comes out running to my side. "good boy, I can''t believe I actually began to like you."
The wyvernlooks at me with a quizzicallook on his face. " let''s go"
we head off on the long brick road.
After a few minutes of walking, we both stand in frontof a building that has the symbol of a sword and shield, the Adventurer''s Guild. I open the door and look around the room. On the left-hand side, there are about 15 muscular adventurers sitting at tables conversing and drinking. They are a mix of all the races that can be found. I head towards the receptionist that is right in front of me.
"Welcome to the Adventurer''s Guild, what can I do for you, little one."
indeed you can say that I am quite small, my height barely reaches the desk of the reception. But... it still hurts.
"Hello?"
"Ah, yes sorry. I would like to register as an adventurer."
the whole room went silent. I felt the gazes of all the fifteen men staring at me.
"ah, I heard that correctly right? you... want to join the Adventurer''s guild?"
"yes"
"okay, but first I need to ask, how old are you?"
"I just became five." damn, i should have lied...
"Go home ya brat, this aint your playing ground, ya hear me?"
I ignore him
"miss, I heard that the guild accepts the registrations based on your level not your age, was that information incorrect?"
"uh, no no, that information is correct. But, that means that you have to have a level at least higher than 8 to join."
"yep, I am level 18"
"what?!" "That brat is 18?!" "What joke is this?!" the reaction from the adventurers was quite the same as I expected it to be.
"If you say so... then I need to check if you are telling the truth, wait a minute please."
the bust receptionist went to grab something from below the table and said:
"please put your hand on this orb. This orb is capable of discerning one''s level, no other information will be displayed except your name and level."
I put my hand on the orb and it began to glow in in a white light.
"oh, so it is true... please accept my apologies. I will prepare your registration form."
She takes out a piece of paper, writes down my name level and race. the paper transforms into a card that was very similar to an old credit card.
"please take this, this will provide for your identification as well as a mean to see your level up status. Here - she points at a green line that was going from one side of the card to the other - this is the exp. line, when the line reaches the other end you will level up and the line will return to the original starting position."
it was now in the middle.
"take you very much."
"not at all, if you want to start with a request already than you will be able to find them on the right-hand side of the wall from the entrance. I would suggest with lower difficulty requests at first when you will rank up, the requests will become harder too, so I suggest that you practice a lot with the easy ones."
"Understood, thanks again."
I walk out of the guild with 30 eyes that follow me to the door.
