《Uncertain Light》 The Preamble- part 1 Ever just walk down the street straight into a falling rock? I mean, oddly specific question, I know. You would have to be stoned to ask it out of the blue. But, for you see, I was just strolling down the sidewalk, minding my own heckin business, when a rock came hurtling out of the sky and nailed me right in the back. So here I lay, paralyzed from the waist down and bleeding out, talking to myself. At least, that¡¯s what I think I¡¯m doing. Shock is weird like that, ya know? It would also explain why I feel so damn tired right now. So tired. Looks like someone called the cops. I look over at the rock, several feet away; it appears red and metallic. Holy shit. I got nailed by a space rock at terminal velocity. What are the chances of that? Using my barely functioning arms I roll over and look at the sky. That guy that called the cops earlier is kneeling next to me, telling me I¡¯m gonna be alright. I know he¡¯s lying, trying to make me feel better before I go. I smile back, trying to reassure him that he reassured me. I feel my eyes droop. My heart rate is very rapidly declining, and I feel more exhausted then I have ever felt before. ¡°Frick you, Space Rock¡± I say as my eyes slowly close for the last time on Earth. This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author''s work. I¡¯m adrift in a sea of darkness. Everything is at peace here. Surprisingly, I¡¯m still capable of thought. Given my brain should no longer be working, logic would dictate that thinking would not be possible. But here I am, thinking away. Guess there is a soul. Or something like that. Hopefully. Maybe it¡¯s just a hallucination, the slow loss of oxygen putting my brain into safe mode. Funnily enough, I don¡¯t feel much in the way of existential dread. I feel little at all in fact. Just peace, and the slow, barely perceptible fading of my thoughts. Completely calm as I deteriorate into oblivion. So there is nothing? I guess that there is not too much wrong with that. Suddenly, the peace fractures. A hand of white light rends through a hole in space and gropes through the darkness, grabbing me. I finally take notice of what I am, a ghastly ball of flame drifting through space. I feel as though I am being drawn through a siphon. I slam into a floor. Everything is still dark, but my flaming visage is no longer present. What is happening? I guess there¡¯s only one way to find out. ¡°NANI!?¡± I question the abyss. Silence. Huh, well I guess that answers tha- . ¡°Omae wa mo shindeiru¡± A calm voice replies in the darkness. "NAAAANIIIII!!!"
