《Living Happily in Another World》
Chapter 1: Regrets
(Ah, this feels nice. The light¡¯s warm, but not too hot. I¡¯m probably dead right now aren¡¯t I. I¡¯m gonna miss the cake shop man.)
¡°I¡¯m glad to see you enjoy this place. Have you come to now?¡±
Kei opens his eyes and looks around him and he can see and feel the faint white light around him. It¡¯s the warmth of a summer breeze passing by while idly laying grass he thought to himself. As he turns around he sees an old man in clad white.
¡°Ara, looks like you¡¯re fully awake now Kei-dono, do you recall the events that occurred before hand?¡±
(Events¡ This must be the afterworld, it¡¯s all too peaceful. Wasn¡¯t I making a delivery? Ah, that¡¯s right. The kid just bought a cake from the store and he was about to crossing the road. I feel bad for his cake, it¡¯s probably ruined after I pushed him away.)
¡°I think that¡¯s the least of his problems, you do remember that in the process of saving the kid, you sacrificed yourself instead.¡±
¡°Ah, I¡¯m sorry, I didn¡¯t realize I was speaking my mind¡ was I?¡±
¡°Hmm, you know by now, most people would start to panic and make assumptions about this place, but you seem rather calm. May I ask why?¡±
¡°Well, it¡¯s not that I¡¯m calm, but rather I accepted the fact I died. I mean what else could I be expecting after jumping in front of a speeding truck. Somehow surviving the impact and gaining superpowers or something? Though that doesn¡¯t sound so bad.¡±
¡°Well then, not many have the resolve to accept their death, not as quickly as you perhaps. Do you have any last words, not that it counts anymore.¡±
¡°Ummm, the cake in the fridge is gonna spoil, such a waste of a good cake.¡±
¡°... ok, why not. Well since things settled faster than anticipated let¡¯s talk about what¡¯s to happen now. As you may have noticed, I am the God that watches over your Earth and the universe before it. Kei Tatsumi, your soul has passed on from your body and you have been given the chance to relive your life in another world as you see fit.¡±
¡°Another world you say¡ if I did that, is there a chance that I can perhaps meet my family again?¡±
¡°I¡¯m sorry kei-dono, but as there are many stars in the sky, there are just as many possibilities of where your family members reincarnate, and even if you do end up where they are it¡¯s a slim chance that they will have their memories intact. The same goes for you.¡±
¡°Oh, I see.¡±
His expression seems pained for a bit, but he returns to his casual smile.

¡°From the looks of your life, I¡¯d say you lived a peaceful yet a lonely life. Though I can¡¯t do much, but if you choose to live another life you can make a small wish, rather a resolve. But just take your time and choose which path to take. If there was anything you regret in your past life, now¡¯s the time to let it all out.¡± - God
Hearing this Kei makes a pained face again. Remembering all the time he yearned for a warm home.
¡°Regrets, if anything, I regret not having a family. I closed myself off to anyone else, I guess. Maybe, perhaps someone liked me or something, I don¡¯t know. But all I wanted was to be with someone.¡±
Plop, ripple, plop, ripple.
He sees the floor beneath him break apart into a ripple and then another one. Kei reaches for his smiling face and he realizes the ripples were caused by him. How many years has it been since he felt his eyes wrinkle.
sniff
¡°It was ¡ it was hard. DAMN IT, WHY DID THEY HAVE TO ME LEAVE ME LIKE THAT, WHY?¡±
As he falls to his knees, Kei weeps of his sorrow like never before. It¡¯s been too long. As the God watches over him, Kei looks remembers the shadow of his childhood, the one where the little boy just heard the death of his family. The one who didn¡¯t cry at his family¡¯s funeral cause the little boy was too young at the time to accept their death, rather he refused to accept it. All of it came crashing down on him.
***
After awhile Kei regains stops and comes to an acceptance. He sits on the rippled floor and looks up to the God before him.
¡°I¡¯m ready to choose now.¡±
¡°Oh, looks like your rather refreshed now Kei-dono.¡±
¡°Yeah, I had to accept it sooner or later, I¡¯m just embarrassed that I chose now.¡±
¡°There¡¯s nothing to be embarrassed about, rather it¡¯s good to let it all out you know¡±
¡°It¡¯s been awhile since I heard someone tell me that. Thank you.¡±
¡°No no, it¡¯s the least I can do to help you transition yourself. Now then have you decided?¡±
¡°Yes, I choose to live another life. If my resolve holds anything, then I wish to live a life with the people I care about.¡±
¡°I see¡± A smile appears on the God¡¯s face. ¡°Well we hope that you can live the life you wished for.¡±
¡°Thank you¡± (But we?)
¡°You¡¯re in the process of your soul getting transferred in another place, and by we, I mean the blessings from both me and the God of the other world. After hearing your wish, he decided to give you a gift of vitality, the other world is different from here. Legends of swords and magic of this world exists in the other world. Oh, looks like it¡¯s time. Godspeed Kei-dono.¡±
¡°WAHHHH¡± Dumbfounded by the sudden news, a bright light shines around him, sending his soul to the other world.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After some time, Kei feels light pouring into his eyes. He feels a slight sway to his body.
(Huh? What was that? Wait, where is God-sama? ¡ Wait is this the other world? HUHHH? WAIT WAIT WAIT? Am I alive yet?)
Kei opens one eye and he adjusts to the sun¡¯s light.
¡°Oh, finally awake kid. Sorry I took so long, if I knew the state of your being, I would¡¯ve done ¡®em in faster.¡±
A burly man with a heavy beard and a receding hairline came into his vision. From the looks of it, it seemed that Kei was being carried by this man, and that he wasn¡¯t himself anymore, but a little kid.
Giving a blank stare back to the old man, Kei fell asleep again.
sigh ¡°I scared another kid. Damn it, what am I supposed to do about it? I can¡¯t help looking so strong. Psh, well I can¡¯t believe this kid is still alive after all that. Maybe he can be my successor, agh who knows, I¡¯ll save it for later.¡±
Behind the man a caravan was set on fire along with the people tied to it. The caravan seemed to have cages attached to it, but it was burning away peacefully.

Chapter 2: Waking Up
Cough cough, sniff
¡°Hey Kei, you¡¯re back from already and it¡¯s cold outside. That¡¯s good cause I made some soup for you. This should help you with your cough. I told you to stay home today¡±
¡°Ah, grandma, I can¡¯t do that, it¡¯s my fault that you couldn¡¯t open the shop today. I¡¯ll get better on my own. You don¡¯t have to worry about me.¡±
¡°Stop spouting nonsense. Of course I would look after you. If you keep going on about this I¡¯m gonna get mad you know. Here, hurry up and wash yourself, this soup is gonna get cold soon.¡±
¡°S-sorry grandma, I¡¯ll keep that in mind.¡±
A faint sense of happiness can be seen spread under his dreary eyes. Thinking of the familiar warm feeling he had with his own family. During the cold, all crowding together under one blanket while watching T.V.
A little while after Kei had his fill of his grandma¡¯s homemade soup, he had a serving of his grandma¡¯s extra creamy melon flavored cake. Rumors have it that taking a bite out of one her cakes would be enough to devote yourself to her, and Kei was no exception to it. Having his fill with some herbal tea for his throat brought a great sense of relief to Kei.
¡°Hmm, looks like you don¡¯t have a fever. That¡¯s good, I cleaned out your futon, blankets and pillow, you¡¯ll wake up feeling fresh tomorrow morning. So have a good sleep.¡±
¡°T-thanks, grandma.¡±
Feeling the softness of the blanket and futon, brushing up against his face and bottom, casting a sleeping spell on him, the eight year old Kei fell asleep.
***
¡°Grandma, I don¡¯t feel so well. My head hurts¡ grandma?¡±
Scrambling under the covers, Kei feels a dullness to his body. As he flips over the blankets he sees a resemblance of a body that shouldn¡¯t exist. Pale, dry to the bones, battered, as if this body is an overused rag.
(Waa- OW! The heck¡¯s this? It hurts all over.)
Kei hazly glances around the room. Wooden walls, a wooden door, a wooden closet, wooden floorboard, a wooden desk, a wooden chair with a red haired doll on it, a black blanket with a furry feeling -
(Why is there a doll here? Wait where is here?)
¡°Ah, you¡¯re finally awake.¡±
¡°Waa-¡±
Startled by the talking doll, Kei fell back on the bed. Quickly trying to adjust his eyes, a figure of a girl comes to show. A red haired girl with dark brown eyes staring him down with curiosity.
¡°Ho, you slept like a log you know. You were messed up everywhere, but Gramps saved you in time and brought you here. You don¡¯t have to worry about them anymore.¡±
¡°Uhh¡ where is this place?¡±
frown ¡±Are you ok in the head? I just said gramps carried you all the way over here after saving you from those slave traders. You must¡¯ve hit your head or something, I¡¯m gonna go tell gramps you¡¯re awake, don¡¯t go anywhere.¡±
(What? Slaves? What? Wait, wait, wait. All I remember is that God-sama said that I¡¯ll reincarnate in another world. And I still remember who I am¡ did something go wrong?)
¡°Ho, looks like you woke up kid. Girl go pour him some hot soup, from the way he looks he must be famished by now. Anyways kid, just know that as Milly said, you¡¯re safe now, so don¡¯t worry about the slave holders and cheer up, kay.¡±
The burly old man from Kei¡¯s memory came into view. His tall and daunting stature was sure to crush the pitiful will that was left of Kei.
¡°Umm¡ who are you?¡±
¡°Kid, where¡¯s my thanks at? Show some gratitude to your savior at least, sheesh, people these days have no manners. The world¡¯s gonna end one day cause of this.¡±
¡°S-sorry, umm thanks?¡±Support the creativity of authors by visiting the original site for this novel and more.
¡°... kid, I like you already. You know how to get on my nerves. My name¡¯s Eren, the girl over there is Milly, and there¡¯s another boy, off on an errand. Call me however you like, what¡¯s your name kid?¡±
¡°It¡¯s Kei. Kei Tatsumi.¡±
¡°You a noble kid? Never heard of that name. It¡¯s rare to see someone with a family name around these outskirts. And from the look of it, are you from a fallen noble family?¡±
¡°N-no, it¡¯s just a family name. I¡¯m not a noble or anything.¡±
¡°Ho. Interesting. Hehe, I like you even more now kid. How bout this, you stay over till you get better then we¡¯ll hear about your circumstance. For the other two will take care of you. They¡¯re a part of this household, so don¡¯t hold back and ask for anything. For now your wounds should¡¯ve healed up, you just might feel sore from all that, nothing that eating can¡¯t fix.¡±
¡°Oh¡ ok. Umm, thanks?¡±
¡°Yeah, yeah. Ah girl, help him with the soup. Don¡¯t want him to make a mess of the bed.¡±
Eren walks out of the room, with Kei left in a muddle. All he remembers is that he was supposed to be reincarnated in another world. At this point he really wished that there was some sort of indication that told him what was happening. A message or something. Wondering about the wounds he supposedly had, he notices that his body has regressed to that of a child around 8 or so. Something told him he was 8.
(Wait, am I already in another world? No way, I still remember everything. No way, am I a chosen one. WAH!)
¡°You¡¯re awfully happy all of a sudden. Did you remember something?¡±
¡°Huh, NO, no. I meant yes, but nothing worth mentioning.¡±
¡°Ehhh, suspicious.¡±
¡°Uh-I¡¯m sorry.¡±
¡°I was joking. Stop apologizing all the time, makes me wonder if you were forced or willingly gave yourself up to be a slave. Here, say ah, gramps said to feed you, not that I mind, since you¡¯re cute for a boy.¡±
Milly dealt full damage to Kei¡¯s pride. Kei is KO¡¯d. He willingly gave himself up to be fed showing no resistance.
The soup was a bit bland. It couldn¡¯t be compared to his grandma¡¯s cooking, that being said his current situation made him accept it as if it was the best meal ever.
¡°Hey, I overheard you talking in your sleep. You kept on mentioning your grandma. Is she someone you got separated from? Gramps can help you get back to her. You¡¯re lucky you have someone probably misses you.¡±
¡°Wait, uh, that¡¯s wrong. It was just a memory of mine. I don¡¯t live with anyone anymore. My family all died.¡±
(I mean it¡¯s true, sort of. It¡¯s not like I can tell her about me being from another world.)
¡°REALLY!? Then if you have nowhere to go, stay here with us. Not just me, there¡¯s another guy our age, well he¡¯s gathering herbs at the moment, but it¡¯ll be fun. We have nowhere to go, so gramps brought us here to live with him. I assure you that giant dwarf is a nice guy.¡±
(A dwarf that¡¯s giant¡ what? That can¡¯t be it. God-sama did say there was magic here, so that¡¯s probably it. Since I barely know anything of this world, it¡¯s better to stay here. They seem like nice people, hopefully.)
¡°Umm, if you don¡¯t mind me, I guess. Please take care of me from now on.¡±
¡°Aaah, that¡¯s great! Imma go tell gramps we have a cute little brother now.¡±
(Why am I the cute brother? And aren¡¯t we the same age?)
As Milly dashes out to tell the great news, Kei is left in the dust, fed just one spoon full of spoon. It left him thinking if he made the right choice deciding to live here.
¡°Oye Milly, what you runnin¡¯ for?¡±
¡°Ah, Roy, you¡¯re back. Look, look, we got a new brother now! And he¡¯s really cute, too.¡±
¡°Is it the kid gramps brought? Why are we deciding to let him be with us? Just send him back to where he came from, we can¡¯t trouble gramps more than we need to.¡±
¡°But, but he has no place left to go to. He¡¯s staying with us and I¡¯m going to tell gramps about it.¡±
¡°What? I¡¯m telling you, we can¡¯t afford for him to stay. And he doesn¡¯t even look useful.¡±
¡°He¡¯s cuter than you and that¡¯s that. Hmph.¡±
¡°Wait! Milly! Damn it, you never listen to me. I swear that kid¡¯s gonna be extra luggage for us.¡±
Milly runs off to tell gramps the good news, while Roy is left in the opposition. Kei still struggling to eat the soup, which has been watered down, has found a place to call home in this other world. The start of his new life, and the goal to have a happy family begins.

Chapter 3: Home
¡°Uwah, this place is bigger than I thought it would be.¡±
¡°Yep, I bet you thought that room was just the entirety of the house didn¡¯t you.¡±
It¡¯s been 3 days since Kei was found and he has fully recovered from all the wounds his current body had. After becoming the newest member of the household, Milly decided to give Kei a tour around the house.
(It¡¯s a miracle that the old man found me when he did. If it was up to me, I don¡¯t think I¡¯d be able to get out of that predicament. For now, I should be glad that they were kind enough to take me in.)
¡°The room you were in the past few days was a guest room, so gramps said to give you that room as your own. My room is next to yours and at the end is Roy¡¯s. Gramps¡¯ room is downstairs along with his workshop. Gramps works as a blacksmith and I swear he¡¯s really good at it. Or that¡¯s what the others have said.¡±
¡°Others?¡±
¡°This house is on the edge of the forest and there¡¯s a village about a field¡¯s walk away. Gramps also protects the village from forest beasts and bandits. I¡¯m telling you Gramps is really strong you know. No one can beat him, not that I¡¯ve seen anyone beat him. But still, Gramps¡¯ the strongest. The other he did save you from the slave traders.¡±
¡°Ya I believe you, but umm, are there adventurers of the sort here? I mean, why else would Eren be a blacksmith on the outskirts of the village?¡±
¡°Well adventurers don¡¯t really come here, more like there¡¯s no need for them since Gramps is here. Gramps just makes the general household items, like knives or saws. Either than that there¡¯s nothing else he makes. But once I went inside his workshop and I saw a big axe against the wall. It was massive and it looked old, but it had no scratches on it. It was beautiful.¡±
As they conversed, Kei learned more about the village and Eren. Eren is relatively famous in the village and highly respected and everyone knows about them, Milly and Roy, living with Eren. The village itself isn¡¯t that grand since not many visit here and everyone is relatively familiar with each other. As they talked more they arrived in front of Eren¡¯s workshop.
¡°Hey gramps, I¡¯m giving Kei a tour of the place, can we come in the shop?
¡°Ho, girl and the kid. I see, it¡¯s best to know your way around since you¡¯re a part of us now. Get familiar with the place. I¡¯m gonna count on you for holding your share of the household soon enough. Anyways, I got nothing much to do, so come in and watch the stuff, not that it¡¯ll break, it might break you instead, haha.¡±
Milly and Kei walk inside the workshop through a door in the hallway. The house has two front entrances, one connected to the house, and the other to the blacksmith shop. The inside is organized with tools hanging on the wall, like Milly said, there was nothing but knives and saws, nothing useful for an adventurer.
¡°Eren, did you ever make weapons before? I was just uh-curious you know.¡±
Ever since Kei accepted the fact that he was in another world, he the inkling feeling of becoming an adventurer like those stories he read. Now with a live blacksmith in front of his eyes, his curiosity surpassed his fear of the old man.
¡°At one point, yes, but not anymore. I won¡¯t say the reason why, not that you¡¯ll understand it, but the weapons I like to make are a bit too much for any normal guy to use. I only make it if they are deserving of it.¡±If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it.
¡°O-oh I see.¡±
A bit disappointed by the answer, Kei looked around some more for the axe that Milly mentioned. If at least he got to see one otherworldly weapon, he¡¯d be grateful for the entire day. And just then, Kei noticed the axe hidden in the corner of the room. The blade wrapped in a white cloth with the handle exposed. It seemed just like any ordinary axe except for the fact that stood taller than he was. It was massive to the boot, which seemed unrealistic to be held.
¡°Ho, this here is my prized possession. It¡¯s been with me for as long as I can remember.¡±
Eren held up the axe as if it was a feather. The axe was around the same height as Eren, and Kei imagining Eren swinging it around brought him to fear Eren more for than just being a giant dwarf. In the minds of an eight year old, even if Kei was 17 at heart, it was a nightmare.
¡°Say kid, you hold an interest in weapons don¡¯t you, come here and try to pick this up to see if you¡¯re worthy for a weapon, ho ho.¡±
¡°Gramps what are you saying, we¡¯re only eight and that things three times our size, and Kei just recovered. There¡¯s no way I¡¯m letting him- ¡±
¡°Really! can I?¡±
(Waah! It¡¯s an actual weapon, well it¡¯s sucks that it¡¯s not a sword, but it¡¯s better than nothing.)
The look on Kei¡¯s face could be comparable to kid getting a birthday present. With no regards to his surroundings, he attempted to pick up the axe. And to no one¡¯s surprise, it was a futile attempt. He tried again, and the axe barely budged.
¡°Ha kid, you¡¯re a hundred years early if you think you can swing it like I can. Trust me on that one.¡±
Eren and Milly started laughing at the red-faced Kei, who rushed in with no care in the world.
¡°Aww Kei, you¡¯re still cute no matter what, but you don¡¯t need to grow bigger than me. You¡¯ll be my little brother even now.¡±
¡°B-but we¡¯re the same age!¡±
In reality, they were both the same age, but Kei¡¯s was currently smaller in height than Milly, which gave the impression of him being a little brother.
¡°Ok we should go to the village now, Gramps I¡¯ll show Kei around and meet with the folk down there. I also need to shop, we¡¯re short on supplies since Kei came over. Ah, don¡¯t worry, it¡¯s not your fault Kei, it¡¯s just it was unexpected for you to come here.¡±
¡°Ah, I don¡¯t mind it. I mean I did come out of nowhere.¡±
Kei who suddenly intruded this home and chose to live here, all in under a week, felt a little guilty about the situation. As they started to leave, they noticed a set of glistening knives on the counter.
¡°Ho, and while you¡¯re at it, deliver these sets of knives to the lady at the inn. She ordered for these to be repaired so she needs them quick.¡±
Kei and Milly left the workshop and started down the path to the village. Parts of the path was still covered up by the forest but it wasn¡¯t a threatening feeling. Calmly strolling down the path, the rustling of leaves can be heard. It was the end of the cold season so it was still a bit chilly outside. Dried leaves were strewn across the path, and footsteps can be heard coming towards them.
¡°Milly, and you, are you heading towards the village? I just came from there, if you needed anything you could¡¯ve told me.¡±
¡°It¡¯s fine and be nicer to Kei, he¡¯s gonna be with us from now on you know. I was planning on showing Kei around the place and I need to deliver these knives to Sonia-san.¡±
¡°Ah ok, then uh careful on the way. But if he does something to you, just scream and I¡¯ll-¡±
¡°ROY¡±
¡°Gah, alright alright, sorry Milly.¡±
¡°Not me, Kei¡±
¡°...sorry...¡±
¡°I swear Roy, you¡¯ve been acting like a spoiled child ever since Kei came. Didn¡¯t you promise gramps that you¡¯ll become someone worth remembering like him and how no matter what you¡¯ll protect everyone in the village.¡±
¡°M-Milly don¡¯t say that!¡±
(Ah, I see. So that¡¯s how it is. I can¡¯t get on his bad side more than I already am if I want to live here.)
After that Roy headed back to the house, while Kei and Milly continued on to the village. It can be said that Roy accepted Kei in name, but he was true to his words.
After walking for a good ten minutes, the village can be seen.
