《Katastrofi》


 Prologue

    *Beep-beep-beep*


    " Cmon man we have to go."


    "Yeah, just give me a second to haul this thing."


    "Here let me help you."


    1 years ago NASA discovered that a bunch of space rocks is coming towards the earth, not enough to cause an extinction like the one that ends the dinosaurs but they seem to be carrying some sort of living organism that may or may not be the demise of our species. The scientist that discover it speculated that the rocks may be a fragment of a destroyed planet, a planet that can support life. Because of that, the government all across the earth start making an underground shelter for their own citizen. Because I live in a shitty country where the government do not have enough money to shelter all of its citizens or they don''t want to, they try to suppress the media inside the country and cut off our access to the outside world but that doesn''t work like they want to, so the whole country fell into chaos. I''m sure that we are not the only country in the world to become like this since there is a more unfortunate country out there. But don''t you worry me and my friend have a plan.


    "Are you sure this is going to work?"


    "I don''t, but how else are we going to survive?"


    "How about going to a proper underground shelter and not just some over glorified cave."


    "And tell me where exactly are we going to find one."


    "Yeah yeah, I''m just saying."


    "Anyway, are you sure there is enough provision for the whole year?"


    "Just relax man, we have a natural spring inside the cave, a whole room full of canned food I stole straight from the factory, a generator and the fuel for the generator. I even create a room for farming inside if you know how to."


    "How about first aid kit or general medicine?"


    "Oh shit, I forgot that thing."


    "Don''t tell me you forgot to bring a cooking equipment?"


    "Bah, if I have the brain to prepare a room full of food, of course, I must have the equipment to prepare that."

    "Enough about me, how about you, what do you bring in those big bags of yours?"


    "Books mostly, some electronic parts and my computer."


    "What!? Why in the name of Beelzebub do you bring such a burden with you."


    "Because we need a thing to divert our mind if will be locked up in this cave or else we will go crazy."


    When we were talking all of the sudden *BOOM* and the earth shake. Even though we are inside a mountain we can fell the impact of the meteor so strong, like it was dropped on top of us.


    "Are you sure the cave will hold out."


    "I already reinforced it with some wooden beam and concrete but I''m not 100% sure."


    "Let just hope for the best."


    It continued for god know how long, when we think it was over the shake again like it was making fun of us, it continues for about 2 or 3 days before it finally stops.


    Two weeks after the sound stop we notice that the water in the spring is turning to green like a lime water, so we decided to stop drinking from it but after a couple of days without liquid, we decided to try our luck.


    A month after the water turned green, we notice that our body seem to change. Joel seems to become stronger than the past, and he says that his sense of smell and hearing are sharper than before. I seem to be quicker and my mind is working a lot faster than before. And our eyes can see better in the dark so we start to use the light less and less to minimalize the use of fuel for the generator.


    I stop counting our days inside the cave after our improvement or mutation. It looks like we can fully control our new power, that what Joel called our mutation. Our food supply is dwindling so we are forced to go out from our little sanctuary in search for food before we starve to death.


    Slowly with cautious, we approach the door and open it. We see the remnant of the city far away below the mountain, half of it is gone. The area around the cave has started to grow some plants. It seems like no matter bad the situation is life finds a way.


    "What are you looking at?"


    "You see that jungle over there."


    "Yeah, so?"


    "How about we go hunting instead of scavenging in the city?"


    "With what?"


    "Wait here."


    I go fetch some stick and start to sharpen it with my pocket knife since my body starts to change, I can sharpen a stick with no trouble at all and it looks like the tip of my makeshift spear are sharp enough.


    "Here use this."


    "Okay, cmon then."


    We go down to the forest which strangely enough not destroyed in the catastrophe. When we go hunting I work as a spotter while Joel does the heavy work of throwing the spear, because of his strength he only needs to throw one time and the poor creature unlucky enough to meet the spear is instantly dead.


    "Hey, I just remember, that you once said your smell and hearing are sharper than a normal human."


    "Yeah so?"


    "So why the fuck do you need me to spot an animal when you can smell them a mile away."


    "I just think that you might feel useless if I do all the work."


    "Fuck you."


    The laugh stop when we notice the mountain.


    "Arent that mountain a little higher?"


    "You''re right, are you thinking what I''m thinking?"


    "We should check on top of that."


    "Bingo."


    *growl*


    "But after we eat and sleep."


    We proceed to enter our little sanctuary (cave), neither of us knows how to cook so we just stick a wood from the mouth of the deer straight up to it ass and roast it whole while hoping for the best.

 Chapter 1

    Once we finished eating and sleeping. We go straight to the top of the mountain. Instead of cool meteorite like we hope it would be, turned out there is a big capsule sitting in the middle of the crater. The capsule is leaking a green slimey thing.


    "I think that was caused the water to turn green."


    "No shit Sherlock."


    "Closed your jaw and help me move it inside our cave."


    "What, why?"


    "I think that green substance is the one that caused our mutation, therefore-"


    "Power."


    "Yeah right, just help me carried it inside, you''re the one with the muscle."


    Once we put the capsule beside the now-green-spring I told Joel to test drinking out the gooey substance that was leaking from the capsule in which he refused me.


    "Why me? It was your idea to bring it inside."


    "Well, you are the one with the better physique compare to me and don''t you want to increase your superpower?"


    "Fuck no, let me find a rat for you to test it on"


    *sigh*"Y-y-yo-you are right, I think there something messing with my brain, to think  that I would risk my only friend for my curiosity"


    "Nah that''s okay, there''s nothing messing with your head you are already a little crazy from before. Remember that one time you lock yourself in a closet for days without food just to trying to understand what makes people claustrophobic?"


    "Yeah, until this day I still don''t understand what about a small room that makes people scared"


    "That I don''t know, human psychology is different on every person so you mustn''t think about it too deep."


    After saying that he leaves me alone inside the cave while he goes out searching for a rat or something. Now that I have the time alone to think, I began pondering about my request earlier, maybe I am crazy and just don''t know it. Only 15 minutes or so has passed since our conversation but to me, it feels like days because my mind unconsciously activated my brain power.     "Ssst, It''s okay man, it''s not even a big deal anyway let just stop thinking about that and start your experiment. Like you say I do want to increase my superpower so let''s get this started"


    I just do as he says and start the experiment, I just hope it works as I expected it to be. I scoop a bottle of gooey green thing that perfectly fine to touch with my bare skin and put them on top of a table. Before I realize it I stop thinking about my inconsiderate attitude.


    "Can you please be so kind as to bring me the patient number one"


    I feel like an evil scientist trying to conduct an evil experiment, well from the point of view of the rats I am an evil scientist doing an evil experiment. Joel bring me the poor creature, he must be a tough one seeing he only had one-eyed and can survive this wretched world. I name him Jack The one-eyed rat before I force feed the green slime straight to his mouth. At first, there''s no change at all on the rat so I put him in a glass Jar and put him aside as I continue on his other friend.


    I check on all of them everytime I wake up in the morning every day. We continue our boring live inside the cave with the occasionally going out to hunt, I start to helping about in our hunting by building a simple trap so I don''t feel useless like Joel said. We both agree to remain in the cave until our experiment with the rats is complete.


    It''s only been a week before I notice some change on some of the rat, I expected it to change like us for about a month or two but considering the amount of the green slime, concentration in the water and the size of the poor creature it makes sense that they develop faster than us. The first one to show some change are One-eyed Jack, his eyes are reforming from scratch and now One-eyed Jack is no more. The second change to be his total size, he increases from like 32cm to 40-45cm.


    The second one is not showing any change, nor does the fourth and last fifth. It just Jack and Jill. And it looks like Joel is the first one to notice the change in Jill body. I knew this because his shout is like a lion roar plus the echoing in the cave makes it the perfect alarm for anyone living in a cave.


    "Yo! Paul look at Jill"


    "What!"


    "She''s cool as fuck"


    "What so cool about it"


    Literally, everything is cool about Jill. She is covered with ice from the tip of her nose to the tail. Even the container is cold. Shes cool as fuck like Joel said.


    "You were right, it does give people superpower or animal for that matter"


    "Now we have two option, either we test the green slime on a different animal or we can say fuck it and just drink it for our self. But remember only 2 to 5 rat survive"


    "Fuck it, let''s drink it, we already survive the green water anyway"


    "Well it seems to be a bad idea to consume something we really don''t know anything about"


    "But you are wrong, one we did know something about it, it gives people a fricking superpower and two who say gaining superpower a bad idea"


    "Meh. Whats the worst can happen"


    I said before I chug a bottle of the green slime, I can see Joel is doing the same thing on the corner of my vision before it became blurry. And then I passed out.
