《Digitized》 Prolong. The stupid phone rings with its annoying sound and wakes me up. ¡°If it weren''t my phone, I would have broken it a long time ago.¡± I thought to myself. ¡°Luz!!! Time to wake up, man!¡± My roommate, Drane, threw a teddy bear at me while addressing me. ¡°And turn off that god-damned alarm. Some of us need our beauty sleep.¡± He covered himself with his blanket. ¡°And don''t forget you have an appointment at 5 o¡¯clock on that place with you know who,¡± Drane added, before going back to sleep. ¡°Yes, Mom,¡± I said while turning off the alarm, then walked towards the bathroom. I stood in front of the mirror, looking at my long black hair that was supposed to be on braids hairstyle, but now it is a complete mess. I sighed. ¡°More work for me,¡± I said. I extended my hand and opened the small closet-mirror. I took out my little hovering drone, it was like a ball, and turn it on. The drone began to emit a dim blue color. ¡°Good morning, Luziel.¡± the drone, Mich, said. ¡°You could have woke me up through your phone. After all, that''s where my main frame is.¡± Mich added. ¡°Same thing. Can you fix my hair?¡± I said, pointing to the mess on my head. ¡°No problem. What kind of hairstyle do you want today?¡± Mich asked. ¡°Just let it go down. Just do two braids to the sides tie my hair as a pony tail.¡± I said while taking my toothbrush and toothpaste. ¡°Getting on it, boss.¡± Four small, thin, hands got out of Mich''s baseball body to begin tinkering with my hair. I brushed my teeth while Mich fixed my hair. It had hurt a little for some of the pulls Mich did to my hair. Once my hair was ready and I finished brushing my teeth, I took my boxers off, put it in with the other dirty clothes and got in the bath to take a hot shower. While the water passed through my skin, I thought on what classes I had today. ¡®I only have two classes today.¡¯ I thought to myself more clearly. ¡®English and Ethics,¡¯ I added while applying soup throughout my body, trying to not to let even the smallest drop of water fall on my hair. I Just had it fixed. I had to be damn crazy if I were to let it get wet now. Does anyone know how hard it is for it to dry long hair? A whole lot of damn hard. And don¡¯t care if that last sentence doesn¡¯t make sense, or this one. Once I finished, I got out of the shower. I found Mich hovering in front of me with a towel on of one his hands and clothes on another. I took the towel and dried myself up. ¡°Here are your clothes. A full set of white formal clothes; white suit, shirt, pants, socks, formal shoes, blue underwear and a white fedora.¡± Mich said while grabbing each with a different hand. ¡°And my undershirt?¡± I asked, trying to raise one eyebrow, but failing miserably for the hundredth time. ¡°Undershirt? What undershirt?¡± Mich said in a confused tone, making use my ¡°are you bullshitting me¡± face. Mich laughed, ¡°I¡¯m joking, boss. I really enjoy when you make that face.¡± Mich said while taking an undershirt from inside the white pants. ¡°One of this days, Mich. One of these days.¡± I said while making an annoyed face. I put my clothes on and went for my phone, which was on a study table beside my bed. I grabbed it, then I saw a little person on the screen. He looked liked me, but he had blue skin tone instead of dark skin tone. That little person was Mich. ¡°We are ready for another day in college boss. Oh, and here is your suitcase.¡± Mich said, pointing at his drone body carrying my black suitcase. ¡°Let''s go,¡± I said, grabbing my backpack and walking towards the door. Once out of my room, I locked the door behind me and took the elevator to the first floor. When I stepped out of the elevator, I found a man standing in the lobby. He was black and was wearing a black suit with a white shirt and a black tie. The man was bald and had a beard. He appeared to be in the early thirties. It seems that he was looking for something. ¡°Hello, Sir. Are you looking for something?¡± I asked the man with a polite tone. Stolen story; please report. ¡°Oh, yes. I am. Could you be so kind to tell me where Luziel Ray is.¡± The man said while touching his chin. ¡°That''s me, Luziel Ray.¡± I said smiling. I carefully looked at the man. Trying to figure out his intentions. The man looked surprised after I told him I was Luziel. Why would that be, I wonder. ¡°I thought Mr. Ray would be more.¡± The man stopped, looking for a specific word. ¡°Older?¡± I said, smiling with a questioning tone. ¡°Yes, older. That''s it.¡± The man responded, with a nervous smile. ¡°What is it that you want with me, sir?¡± I asked. ¡°Anthony. Anthony Meredith.¡± The man said, stretching his right hand towards me for handshake. ''Man, I forgot my gloves again. Don''t people know that is more sanitary to use fistbonps instead of handshakes?¡¯ I thought while returning the handshake to Anthony. ¡°What I want is to give you an advised, Mr. Ray.¡± Anthony said, smiling ¡°Forget what''s going to happen. Let it go. Remember, only the weak keep a grudge. The strong forgives and move on.¡± I was confused. ¡°What do you mean? I don''t get it.¡± I said. ¡°You will know soon.¡± Anthony said. Then the strangest thing happened. I was back in the elevator with a card that read ¡°Anthony Meredith¡± on my left hand. ¡°What the fuck!¡± I yelled. I went through my classes thinking in what that man told me. I pondered what he meant. It was eating at me. The only thing that I got out that was forgive and move on. Well, I don''t usually hold grudges. Nor I forget what wrong has been done to me. After all, I was picked on, laughed at and treated worse than garbage since little. I''ve lost many things. Many of my inventions had been stolen. Mich, for example, is one of them. Someone stole my research into Artificial Intelligence, A.I for short, and publicized it as their own. It''s been five years since then. I created Mich based on my research, but the person who stole my research sold it to various entities for a great amount of money. Everyone thought that they would make a breakthrough in the A.I department, but unfortunately, no one else but me has been able to. After all, the research was incomplete when it was stolen from me. This last few months, I''ve heard some rumors of someone discovering a way to finish it. I just hope that it isn''t using a live brain of a person to create the basics. That would result in the death of the subject if it is done wrong. That''s why it took me years to create Mich. It was difficult to make a digitized copy of my brain without opening my head or stiking something through my skull. Anyways, I don¡¯t really care about that at all. After all, I wasn¡¯t researching A.I¡¯s because I wanted some recognition or money. I did it because I was bored and I have the time to do it. I''m don''t think of myself as a genius or something like that. I just approach things differently. ¡°Mr. Ray!¡± Someone yelled, taking me out of my trance. I turn back to face whoever called me. ¡°Finally. I have been trying to talk to you this whole time.¡± Said a girl right about my age. Early twenties. ¡°Oh, sorry. I was immersed in my thoughts.¡± I said, apologetically. ¡°Yeah, I could see that.¡± The girl said. ¡° Anyways, the dean wants you to go to her office.¡± ¡°Really? What does she want?¡± I asked. ¡°Don''t know. She didn''t say.¡± She responded. ¡°But it sounded very urgent.¡± ¡°Then I should get going.¡± I said, getting on my way to the dean''s office. The dean¡¯s office was in the main building of the campus. Right on the ground level. The dean has fear of high places, so she requested to have her office at ground level. I made my way to the most isolated room at the end of the hallway. Once on front of the door, I knocked on it three times. ¡°Come in.¡± A feminine voice said. I opened the door and walked in, but I didn''t see anyone in there. Then I closed the door behind me without looking back. Some arms showed up out of nowhere around my waist. The right hand went up towards my face and turned it to the right, then I felt something warm on my lips. I realized that someone had just kissed me. And knew who it was. The kiss went from subtle to an overly, deep, passionate one in a matter of seconds. Shortly after, the person kissing me separated her lips from mine. ¡°Great way to say hello to someone, Ms. Dean.¡± I said, in a playful tone. ¡°You know pretty well that you are the only one.¡± She said coquettishly while walking to her desk. ¡°And you know I hate when you call me that. Just call me by my name. You are my boyfriend after all.¡± She turned her head and wink at me. She was pan, my girlfriend. She is 22 years old. Black skinned. Long hair reaching her arms. To me, she is pretty beyond words. She might seem cold and serious most whole time, but in reality she is like a 5 year old with a sugar overdose. Well, that is how she is with me. And she was looking at me with those dark brown eyes of hers. Wearing red one-piece dress, the ones that aren''t over the shoulders, and seating on her desk. Legs closed on on top of the other, with her left leg on the right leg. And hands behind her to support her. ¡°You forgot our date today.¡± She said, smiling. ''Shit. I forgot. I was so into what that man told me this morning that I didn''t look at the time.¡¯ I thought looking at the clock behind pan. ''It is 8!! How on Earth did I not noticed!¡¯ I screamed in mind. ¡°I got caught up thinking about what some random man told me about the whole day and didn''t noticed the passage of time.¡± I decided to with the truth. I prepared for the worst, but pan just laughed. ¡° That''s classic of you, getting lost in your thoughts that is.¡± She said between bursts of laughter. ¡°It''s okay. Don''t worry about it.¡± She added. ¡°What did I do to get someone as understanding as you as my girlfriend?¡± I asked rhetorically out loud. ¡°You just approached a lone sixteen years old teen going through college and asked for directions for the department of science.¡± She replied, laughing. ¡°Well, I was seventeen and I was, and still am, bad remembering names. No my fault I went to the wrong university.¡± I said, pouting. Pan laughed. ¡°But that mistake was what brought us together. In that one day we learned more about each other than anyone in our lives.¡± She said, smiling. ¡°Anyways, it is time for me to go home. Do you want to come with me?¡± ¡°With pleasure.¡± I replied, also smiling. I was woke up the next morning by the constant ring of my phone. ¡°Mich, put the call through.¡± I said sleepy without opening my eyes. ¡°Got it, boss.¡± Mich said. ¡°Hello, is this Luziel Ray?¡± The voice said. ¡°yes, it is. Who wants to know?¡± I asked, trying not to fall back to sleep. ¡°I''m detective Malone from the police department of New Washington. I''m calling you because there''s been a murder last night. And it is suspected that the victim was Pan Armstrong.¡± The moment I heard Pan, I couldn''t focus on nothing else that the detective said. That was day where everything changed for me. Chapter 1: The fruit of all my work. ¡°Hey, Boss! Time to rise and shine!¡± I heard Mich''s annoying voice from within the deep darkness. ¡°Come on, Boss. I''ll be forced to use drastic measurements.¡± Mich added. I felt something cold and wet splashing on my face. I stood up with and start, looking around me. I eyes landed on a shining Mich wearing some white gloves and holding a glass cup with his right hand. ¡°I curse the damn day where I thought in creating those gloves that let you interact with the world,¡± I said annoyed under my breath. ¡°Boss, today is the day~.¡± Mich happily sang. ¡°What date is it?¡± I asked Mich. ¡°Oh, Boss the age is getting to you isn''t it?¡± Mich said while smiling, trying not to laugh. ¡°Yeah, whatever. Just tell me what date it is.¡± I said while making my way to the restroom. Mich was coming behind me. ¡°It is January 6, 2017, Boss.¡± Mich finally answered my question. ¡°Time does fly fast. A decade has passed since I left college because of that incident.¡± I said aloud without realizing. ¡°Yes, Boss. It''s been a long time.¡± Mich said, worried. ¡°Don''t worry, Mich. What happened is all in the past.¡± I said, smiling back at Mich. ¡°If it wasn''t for that man who showed up that day and once again one year later, I might have fallen deeper into¡ ¡°But you didn''t. So let''s forget about that.¡± Mich interrupted. ¡°Now get into the shower. Because today is the day~.¡± Mich sang while I opened the bathroom door. ¡°Okay, Mich,¡± I replied without looking back at Mich. I entered the shower. The water was running. I took a long shower. Thinking about this last few years. If today test is successful, then I''ll be on a path that no man has walked before. I dried myself and got out of the bathroom. ¡°Taking a shower after three days of non-stop work does feel nice,¡± I said while I made my way towards my workroom. ¡°Do you need some clothes, boss?¡± Mich said. The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. ¡°I don''t need clothes for what I''m about to do. And I don''t want to risk an unforeseeable scenario. Who knows what may happen once I use the machine on myself.¡± I said, thinking about the possible scenario of having the clothes fuse with my body. ¡°Yeah, getting stuck with shoes instead of feet may be annoying.¡± Mich concurred. ¡°And you¡¯re still feeling the after-effects of eating that apple.¡± ¡°I did it for science!¡± I said, in a proud tone then my stomach growled. ¡°But my stomach might not think it that way.¡± ¡°Sure, science,¡± said Mich, sarcastically. ¡°I just hope that if an accident happens, it is about your hair color,¡± Mich said in a low voice, hoping I don''t hear it, I think. ¡°What''s is wrong with my hair?¡± I ask while preparing everything. ¡°It is all white for starters,¡± Mich said. ¡°I like it white,¡± I responded ¡°But it makes you look old!¡± Mich raised his voice. ¡°The lines on my face make me look old,¡± I responded. ¡°Yeah, that too,¡± Mich said. I laughed. Once all the adjustments were ready, I walked towards the desk inside my workroom and took the power core, a blue sphere the size of a baseball, for the machine, which I placed inside the biggest room in my house, the living room. I headed there right away. There was nothing on my living room, except by paintings of me, Mich and a person with blonde hair, blue eyes and dressed in white clothes, which looked like bathing clothes. I smiled when I saw them. These paintings were made by Mich. ¡°Mich,¡± I called. ¡°Yes, Boss,¡± Mich said. ¡°Who was that fellow dressed in white from that painting you made,¡± I asked while pointing to said painting. ¡°Oh, that. He is your ancestor, Lighting Ray.¡± Mich answered. ¡°But for some reason, I cannot find close to no records of him.¡± ¡°Weird,¡± I said, then stopped in front of the machine, placed in the middle of the living room. ¡°The living. Are you sure?¡± Mich asked. ¡°You know how the house was made, so don''t worry,¡± I said, smiling. ¡°I know the whole house was made to contain or resist an explosion strong enough to destroy a city, but that is not what I meant,¡± Mich said. ¡°Your paintings are shielded,¡± I replied. ¡°Let¡¯s begin!¡± Mich said, showing up behind the controls. ¡°Of course,¡± I said, making a circle with my eyes. I placed the power core inside the machine. Mich powered up the machine. Blue lines began to emit off the machine. Ready, set, go!¡± said Mich right before shooting me with the blue color beam from the machine. Once it hit me, everything went blue, then dark. Darkness surrounded me. I couldn¡¯t feel a thing. I couldn''t hear either. Nor talk when I tried to. I could only think. Funny. I think therefore I exist. You don¡¯t know how long I¡¯ve waited for a moment to use this. ¡°Hey, Boss!¡± I heard Mich¡¯s voice. ¡°Boss!¡± And it is getting louder. ¡°For the love of everything that is not made by me,¡± I said while trying blocking my ears, which wasn¡¯t worth it. I still could hear loud and clear. Or at least what I think is hearing. ¡°Stop raping my ears.¡± ¡°You don¡¯t really have ears in here, with being honest,¡± Mich said, with a more manageable volume. ¡°Then don¡¯t rape my mind with such high volume,¡± I replied, getting used to whatever I got myself into this time. ¡°So what happened? I guess the experiment work since I wasn¡¯t blown to pieces or disintegrated.¡± ¡°Yes, it works. I still unable to comprehend why you seem to have such lack of--how could I put it--lack for your well being, Boss.¡± Mich replied, with a sad tone in the end. ¡°You Already know why. So, tell me. How is the integrity of my consciousness? I wouldn¡¯t want, well, fuck myself up for the rest of my existence.¡± I said ¡°Everything is normal. The readings show nothing abnormal.¡± Mich answered. ¡°Now, I welcome you to my world! The digital world!¡± Mich declared, with a loud voice. The darkness around me change to a white space. Mich was flying high above with his arms opened. ¡°Fuck my life! Mich, what did I told you not to do?¡± I said while gritting what I imagine were my teeth. Chapter 2: Let the Game Begin. ¡°And this is how you connect to the hyperweb,¡± Mich said while showing me how to do it. ¡°Mich, why didn¡¯t you set up the white room before I came in,¡± I asked. ¡°I had some trouble with it,¡± Mich said while looking away from me. ¡°You forgot, didn¡¯t you?¡± I said, with a poker face. ¡°I wouldn¡¯t forget something like,¡± mich replied with a fake hurt tone. ¡°So you admit that you left me in the dark on purpose,¡± I said with a smile. Mich didn¡¯t reply. ¡°Anyways. Did you order everything needed to make a smaller version of the machine? I should really come up with a name for it.¡± ¡°Yes, everything is in motion,¡± Mich replied while his eyes shined with a bright blue. ¡°Do you want me to start building it as per your specifications?¡± ¡°Yes, but we first need to know if it is safe for people to..¡± I stopped and thought to myself for a second. Was my body completely disintegrated into data and transfer to the contained space I made with the help of mich. Or was my mind copied and pasted or¡. ¡°Boss!¡± Mich interrupted my train of thought. ¡°Are you there?¡± ¡°Mich, was my body transfer to the contained space?¡± I asked. ¡°Of course. The digitization proceeded without any abnormalities. Besides your appearance, but I don¡¯t know how much further the changes go,¡± Mich replied. ¡°What do you mean with-¡± Mich made a mirror appear in front of me before I finish talking. It was big enough for me to look at my face and nothing more. I was shocked. My face looked as if I was in my 20s again. ¡°How is this possible,¡± I asked, not expecting an answer. ¡°It looks like the scans you have been doing since you created me got jumbled up during the digitization process. The data was reorganized. Maybe the most optimal, I think.¡± Mich said. ¡°Enlarge the mirror,¡± I said and Mich compiled. The mirror became bigger by a snap from Mich¡¯s right-hand fingers. I was naked. Obviously. I had abs and my muscles were similar to that of a bodybuilder. Well, one that trained moderately and not to have muscle on top of muscles. I would look like an average guy if I use a long-sleeved T-shirt, but I digress. This is how my body looked like back when I was in college. Everything is okay but my hair. It is still white. No that dislike the outcome anyway. But the thing is, will I be able to get out? What would the side effects be? Will I fall into a deformed pile of meat and blood spilled all over the place? I designed the machine to convert everything that makes me into specific and unique set variables and coding. If even one thing is change during the conversion, my case, then once the process is done in reverse...I might die. Or worse. ¡°Why didn''t you bring my attention to this sooner?¡± I asked, annoyed. ¡°I¡¯m doing it now, right?¡± Mich replied while looking away. ¡°You only did it because I asked!¡± I said, raising my voice just enough to convey my anger. Mich flinched. ¡°Nevermind. It''s already done.¡± I sighed. ¡°So what do we do?¡± Mich asked. ¡°Nothing. Well, only me. You only have to build the smaller version of the Digitizer. That is the only thing that won''t malfunction while taking me out of the digital space due to the changes I made.¡± I said then continued to ramble. ¡°I should have implemented them into the version that we have too. But how could I know such a thing would happen? The only thing I¡¯m grateful is that I was digitized completely. It could have been worse with my mind was in here and my body out there.¡± I continued on with Pointing out all the things that could have been worse than my current situation. ¡°Not that I am concerned too much about it. I just find those situations more challenging and exciting than what I am facing.¡± I ended my ramble. ¡°Mich? Where are you?¡± I just noticed that Mich was nowhere to be found. It was only me in this white space. ¡°Oh, you finally stopped talking with yourself.¡± Said, Mich while showing up out of nothing. ¡°Where were you?¡± I asked. ¡°I was dismantling the Digitizer, as you called it, to repurpose some of the parts for other experiments,¡± Mich said. ¡°Good. That version won¡¯t be of use to me anyways.¡± I said, then thought for a few minutes and asked, ¡°Is there something to do while I wait here? It¡¯ll get boring in here after a while.¡±Love this story? Find the genuine version on the author''s preferred platform and support their work! ¡°You can read?¡± Said Mich with an insecure tone. ¡°I¡¯ve read all the interesting books already. And I already caught up with any story good enough to catch my interest on the web.¡± I thought for a moment while scratching my chin, then asked, ¡°Are there any games I can play?¡± Mich looked thought for a while before answering, ¡°Well, Boss...there are certain requirements because of your current situation..¡± ¡°I know that already,¡± I said, with a sigh. ¡°There¡¯s something that you can play, but I don¡¯t know what kind of problems it might cause,¡± Mich said. ¡°Virtual games, right?¡± I said. ¡°Yes, but there¡¯s a little problem,¡± Mich said. ¡°There¡¯s no way to know what might happen to me, right?¡± I muttered. ¡°Yes, Boss,¡± Mich replied. ¡°Well, I can take the risk. Maybe nothing serious will happen.¡± I said while smiling. Mich looked at me worried then sighed in defeat while looking down and said, ¡°I know I¡¯m going to regret this.¡± He moved his hand to the side and a white window pop up in front of me. The window then filled itself with images with names under them. ¡°Here is a long list of all the popular virtual games,¡± Mich said. ¡°Damn, there are a lot,¡± I said. ¡°You can set the search by picking from the options list or by just saying it. Mich said. ¡° oh and you can pull up this window by just calling for it. It is the same thing if you want to close it too.¡± Mich left after saying that. I looked at the window and scrolled down, reading the games one by one. Their names and descriptions. I even looked up some videos to know what I was getting myself into every time a game interested me. But they ended disappointing me. Until I found a game that intrigued me. ¡°Player¡¯s Dream.¡± I read the title aloud. It wasn¡¯t the title that attracted me, but what was beside it. Instead of the price tag that every game had, this one had the word ¡®free¡¯ there. Don¡¯t get me wrong, I have enough money to buy three jets, which are antiques of an era mostly forgotten. So they¡¯re quite expensive. But that wasn¡¯t the only thing. The video I looked up showed the kind of thing that only a game produced by a renowned developer would. Which is not a high price if I remember the fiasco that was the game that created using my A.I. research. I already knew they wouldn¡¯t be able to create an A.I. as advanced as Mich, but the greed of the company was their downfall. Who in their right mind thought that pay to win and loot boxes would be accepted by the gamer community. Those guys had played even the games from the mostly forgotten era, for fuck sake. They put historians to shame when it comes to events related to games and their communities in the forgotten era. And that is a lot if one takes into consideration how games if that era depicted the situation of the society. The company might as well creamed ¡®we only want your money¡¯ and see how they go bankrupt, which they ended at, anyway. Anyway, the game called Player¡¯s Dream has something. Be it in the description which stated one can do anything they want, but warned that there¡¯d be consequences. Good and bad. Or how they prided themselves in stating that balanced is up to the player¡¯s wit. They explained how the worst technique or skill can become the best only with a player¡¯s interaction. That the rules in the game were meant to be challenged or questioned. They even added a video in the description showing people testing a skill. The famous beginner spell for mages, ¡®Fireball.¡¯ Each person changed the shape of the spell. The color too. And the spell changed names. ¡®Fire spear¡¯ and ¡®Fire sword¡¯ where two of them. There were many things and more. The description was long. I don¡¯t think that many read the entire thing unless they liked to read, like me, or wanted to know as much as they could before playing. ¡°It¡¯s decided,¡± I smirked. ¡°Player¡¯s Dream, here I come!¡± I screamed as I selected the game. A bunch of windows started to show up soon after.

¡°Seems like I need an immersion device,¡± I muttered while thinking about a solution. ¡°Well, not really,¡± I said while snapping my fingers. ¡°Open source window,¡± I said. A window full of code showed up in front of me. I changed a few things in order to make the game believe that this space is an immersion device. It took me longer than I thought. Who would have thought someone would put up so many defensive measures against hacking in their system. I felt like I was up against Mich and his hacking games. I guess whoever made these defenses are good. But no good enough to stop me. ¡°Close window,¡± I said and waited to see if it¡¯ll work.

Connecting to Player¡¯s Dream
The space around me changed to an over the clouds view. Everything was blue with the sun up in the horizon. Then a window showed up in front of me.
Welcome to Player¡¯s Dream
Pulling Agreement Policy...
Another window showed up. This one must have been the agreement policy, I supposed. I read through it. It had some things about playing at one''s own risk. It went further into explaining the dangers one might encounter. Be it because of game design or the player. There was even a video where everything inside the agreement policy is explained. ¡°Someone doesn¡¯t want to get sue,¡± I laughed. I signed after reading everything. I had to make sure there wasn¡¯t anything shady. I wouldn¡¯t be able to play the game if I didn¡¯t sign anyway. Once finished with that, a character creation screen showed up. There was a naked, full body model of myself. I could only customize my appearance. I left everything as it was and continued on. A light enveloped the naked model of me and clothes appeared. It allowed me to change the colors. I made everything white. A white generic shirt and beach shorts with no drawings or packets. I pressed the finished bottom hovering on the bottom right corner of the window. Light enveloped my body and the same clothes appeared on me.

Light began to cover me. I smiled, opened my arms and looked up. ¡°Let the game begin!¡± I screamed at the top of my lungs and I vanished into the game.
