Introduction "So after all I''ve done for you. After all the long hours helping your little shop grow into an actual store. After I gave birth to your children and raised them you do THIS! To me," a very angry woman yells at her former flame as he cowers on the ground. She firmly holds a miniature crossbow in one and while the other holds an peice of iron, but it can''t be seen clearly to know more. They are in the basement of their store its filled with barrels and crates up to the ceiling. Her former flame raises his hands, his back pressed against the wall."Suger blum it isn''t like that I swear. She seduced me with her faminine wiles. You know I would never do this to you on purpose." "Who was it," the woman says pointing the crossbow at her husbands."Who is it that took you away from me my dear. If she seduced you so, you must know her name." The woman stares down her husband eyes filling with burning hatred. The husband tries to reason with his wife,"Sugar blum it doesn''t have to be this way. I''ll take the Oath of Abstinence from the temple. I''ll fire every woman at ourstore and run it all myself - ah." The wife cocks the crossbow aiming at her husbands chest."Her name." She orders hardly above a whisper. The husband gulps. Sweat trickles down the side of his face."Margrete my angel. Margrete seduced me twisted my mind till I didn''t know what I was doing." The husband announces. The sound of his voice giving him more confidence."She is the cause of your torment the cause of this strife that threatends to tear us apart." The wife doesn''t move, doesn''t flinch. She doesn''t even look like she''s breathing."I was talking about Janet," she fires the crossbow. The husband flinches expecting to feel his life be taken away, but instead he feels his hands get wrapped then forced into the wall above. The crossbow fired a two bolt shotwith a thick rope connecting them. The man is now pinned to the wall his hands useless. "S-sugar blum. W-what are you going to do to me?" The husband stutters petrified. "Don''t worry baby I don''t blame you. You see I have figured out what has caused you to dothese terrible things," the wife strutsto her husband sitting the crossbow on astorage box next to her. Flipping the peice of metal in her hand to the other. The mana lights above illuminate it for the husband to see. An emasculator, one used by farmer John to neuter his bulls. "I''ve figured out its those two bouncing balls between your legs. Your testicles. And if you really think about ityou have already sired four beautiful children you don''t need them anymore anyway. So I will get rid of the problem right here," crunch, crunch," right now." The husband goes completely still. Frozen like a petrified lizard. Then he awkens shakking off the stone,"HELP! HELP! COBON GO GET HELP YOUR MOTHERS GONE CRAZY!" His screams go unheard his wife steps too him emasculator gripped tightly in one hand. He kicks at her hoping to keep her back away from his manhood. It doesn''t work. She grabs one kicking foot with her free hand then pushes it to the ground stepping on it with her footthendoes the same with the other foot. "P-PLEASE BABY! I PROMISE I''LL NEVER DO IT AGAIN!" The husband screams tears rolling down his face snot falling out of his nose. The wife unbuttuns his pants and pulls them down ,along with his undwear, to his knees. "I know," she says softly running her hand through her hair to move it out of her face."You won''t be able too." She strikes! The husband strggles thrashing around, but the wife keeps him pinned. Finally she manages to get the emasculator attached. She stares at her husband for a breif second the two locking eyes. Then she scrunches up her face and squeezes the handles together. CRUNCH! Two I cover my hands over my mouth to keep myself from screaming. My father''s screams of pain echo throughout the store. I''m sure those above can hear his muffle cries. My mother is breathing heavily as she stands over my father her hands still gripping the device she used to cut... to cut.... to cut. I can''t even say it my god what do I do. I saw my mother follow my father down here with that crossbow in her hand. I thought they had a new shipment of weapons and I came down to see if there was anything cool. I didn''t think she would do something like this. I can''t believe she... "Don''t worry John the pain will go away in time." My mother tells my father completely toning out his screams. "YOU FUCKING BITCH I''LL KILL YOU! I WILL KILL YOU!" Father lashes out at my mother straining against his binding. "It''s okay baby I''ll give you some time to settle yourself. I know this must be tough, but you can do it I know you can." Mother straightens herself. Dad kicks his legs sending mother falling to her side. The emasculator that was still attched to his privates gets torm off along with his.... I have to press my hands harder around my mouth to keep from throwing up. Blood pours out from the monstrous wound spilling onto the floor. "AHHHHH!" Father screams. I push myself backward slamming against a crate. Father looks to me eyes widening. "Run Cobon! RUN!" Father yells at me straining agains the binds. "Cobon." Mother says lifting herself up and looking at me."Its okay sweaty mom and dad just had a fight everythng will be okay." "Go to hell!" Dad kicks mom in the back sending her crashing against the crates."Cobon I said RUN!" I nod my head pushing my self up. I trip and fall, but I get up quickly and start running. The basement has four rows surrounded by crates. I''m at the last one farthest from the staircase I run making it to the staircase then I fly up three steps at a time. Emerging into the backroom of the store I don''t stop and blast through the interoir slamming into the door. I throw it open and keep running. I fly by other stores of diffrent trades none of them open. Its early mourning no ones going to be up at this time. The sun hasn''t even shown itself fully. The stone road click as I run across it. Where do I go? The guards are the opposite direction and I''m not going by the shop again. A far off train blows its whistle. Thats it! Molly is comming home today that may even be her train. I continue running down the road my side starting to hurt. The cold air slaps against me as I run my pajama bottoms and night shirt do nothing to defend me. I had to put on shoes to go into the basement so thankfully my feet aren''t getting torn.Support the creativity of authors by visiting the original site for this novel and more. I near the station. The town I live in is growing, but its still small by railroad standardsso the station is only a wooden platform with one ticket building. I see the train pull in. The magic compustion engine blowssteam into the air. The brakes squeal as the train grinds to a holt jerking forward slightly as it comes to an complete stop. I run up the steps both my sides cramping from the marathon I just sprinted. The train doors open as I stumble to a stop breathing heavily. A few people come out. Most businessman and woman comming to see the towns growing commerce. They eye me curiously but don''t stop walking then my sister Molly comes off. She has black hair the same as me and green eyes. She''s wearing a white dress with black boots. Someone comes off with her a tall man with blonde hair and athletic looking body he''s wearing black slacks with a button up black shirt. Molly sees me standing there and goes bright red. She grabs the mans arm stuttering something out. "Oh m-my p-parents decided to send my brother to greet us how nice." She gives me thestink eye. I have no idea who that man is nor what their relationship is and right now I don''t care. "Oh this is Cobon hello my name''s-" "I''m really sorry, but thats not important right now," I say really fast to the man and face my sister."Molly! I don''t know what happened but mom and dad got in a real bad fight. Dad admitted to cheating then mom got a crossbowandshothim." My words start merging together as start talking really fast. "Cobon!" Molly yells clapping her hands really loudin my face."Slow down I can''t understand you. Now what did you just say?" She ask putting her hands on my shoulders. I gulp."Mom and dad got into a fight. Mom conered dad in the basement then dad admitted to cheating on her with Margret and Janet then mom shot him with a crossbow. And then she, she, she a." I can''t finish my sentance. Molly''s face is tense her jaw pulges out when she gets nervous like how she is now. The man rest his arm on Molly shoulders then looks at me. "Where are they now?" He ask looking over me to the town. "Dad told me to run. The guards aren''t awake yet so I came here. They''re probably still in the shops basement." "Okay. Don''t worry I''ll check on them they probably just really mad at each other. Come on Molly lets go." The man takes Molly''s hand and starts walking. Two people hear the conversation start whispering to each other one pointingto thenearby ticket building. We walk down the road quickly Molly gripping my shoulder tightly. The man leads the charge his boots clicking loudly on the road. "Your names Cobon right," the man ask a smile on his face. "Yeah, all o''s no u''s." I tell him. People get confused sometimes with my name. "Hahaha, funny my names Arthur. Why do you think your parents were fighting Cobon?" He ask as we near the trade buildings. "I think mom found out dadwas cheating and confronted him about it. By confronting I mean getting a crossbow and cornering him in the basement. At first he denied it then confessed, but that just made it worse." I tell him the store comming into view. The door wide open from when I ran out of it. "Did she get really mad and shoot your father after he confessed?" Arthur ask? "No she was really calm and spoke softly. I think what made her mad was the woman he told her he cheated on her with wasn''t the one she found out about." I say grabbing my sister''s arm. "Oh." he says. We stop infront of the house the door swinging slightly. "You said they were in the basement right?" Arthur says approaching the door gripping somthing in hispocket."Where is that?" "The entrance is in the back room straight ahead of you," Molly tells him sticking her head in slightly."Mom! Dad! I''m home is everything okay?" She tells me to stay here andfollows Arthur to the backroom into the basement. I do as I''m told. I grab the door knob and wait for them to check on mom and dad. Their going to be fine right? Mommy just needs some help and daddy just needs to go to the church and gethealed. Yeah he cheated but they''ll work through that. They''ve been through worse right? A hear someone running up the stairs. Molly burst out of the basement and runs to me grabbing me into a hug and starts crying. Three The guards were called in soon after Arthur and Molly investigated the store. The captian of the guard Captian Trailblazer, a big man with short combed hair, brought us to the guards headquaters. A large building by this towns standards. Its three stories tall and built like a fortress with thick walls, reinforced windows and narrow staircases that turn to the right. I''m in break room sitting on a couch with my sister opposite of us is Trailblazer he''s leaning on a table with an ink bottle and scroll. Me and my sister just stopped crying. Both my parents are dead and both are believed to be murder. My mother died after being stabbed multiple times with crossbow bolts and my dad died from blood loss and blunt fore trauma to the head, both believed to be caused the emasculator they find at the scene. "After my mom pinned him down she got the emaculator and *gulp* and emasculated him," I cringe at the memory," I backed away and thats when my dad saw me. He was screaming in pain and told me to run and I did. He kicked my mother to the ground which caused the emasculator to rip off his privates. I ran out the store to the train station where I found Molly and Arthur." Captian Trailblazer nods his head wrighting this down on the piece of scroll. "So your mother shot him with a capture shot pinning his arms against thte wall?" He confirms with me. "Yes, sir," I say. He nods."Thats what we found at the scene and everything you say collaborates what was described on the bodies," he looks up to Molly."The store is still a crime scene so I can''t allow either of you to go back in just yet. Don''t worry though this case is already closed in my book its just a formality that we keep it open for three days. Actually and sorry about this I do need to use a seeing stone to check your stats. Its free of charge and it''ll take about three minutes." "No problem go right ahead." Molly answers for me. Trailblazer thanks usthen gets up rolling up the scroll and putting the ink bottle he was using away. He steps out the door. Molly wipes her eyes again. Red marks are visble all around her face. We sit in silence for a minute then she starts talking. "What do you think your stats are going to be," she ask me. "I don''t know the last time it was checked was over a year ago at school. But I did pass the mana test last time." I say staring ahead blankly. "You passed the mana test? Thats good you probably could enroll in the school in a year if its really high.... Listen Cobon I know this is really soon, but we have to start thinking about what we''re going to do now that the store is affectively closed. Crassus and Ilo will come down for the funeral, but I''m worried what Crassus will do. He''s always wanted the store and we both know he isn''t going to be nice about it." I nod not really paying attention. Crassus is mean, he''s my older brother. Ilo is the oldest, but I don''t really know him all to well he was out of the house before I was walking. He has his own family south as a trader. "I know they had a will so deviding the wealth isn''t going to be a problem. But I don''t know what they did with the store. I don''t want to get in a fight with Crassus over ownership and you''re too young to be heard. Do you even want the store?" Molly asks me. I shake my head."No not really. When they discovered I had mana they made plans for me to get a grimoire to learn some low level magic spells." "Did they already place an order?" Molly ask her eyes widening. "I think so," I scruntch up my eyes and scratch my head trying to remember."A week ago they gave a traveling merchant some a money to prepay incase he got anything. He supose to be comming back in about a week but I don''t know." Molly stops talking and goes into a deep think mode. She kinda looks like dad when she does it. Her hand around her chin and eyes glossing over as she goes over every possibility. Mom would always tease her that she acted like dad. I stare up at the ceiling thinking myself. What will I do now? I can''t live at the store anymoreeven if they seal off the basement itstill wouldn''t be the same. Mabey I can do what Molly said and go to the school next year if I have high enough mana. The door sqeaks open. Captian Trailblazer comes in with a two foot by two foot cube rock. It''s grey and has a scratches and marks on it."It may take a minute or two for it to warm up. We''ve had this one for severeal decades now." He sits it on the table a couple of inches closer to me. I know how these work and rest my hand on the top of it. It''s mandatory for school children to get their stats checked once a year to check for diseases. And if they show a particularly high stat. Like Captain Trailblazer said it took about two minutes for the stat screen to come up.

"Everything seems to be in order. Your level is normal for your age while the rest of your stats are quite impressive. And you have mana, I think my daughter said something about that a few weeks ago. I''ll wright this down in my report and get the case over with in the next few days." "Excuse me," Molly asks,"does this stone have the capability to check how much mana he has?"Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. Trailblazer shrugs his shoulderes,"Possibly. When it was new it could, but this things been here for decadesso I can''t promise anything. Try tapping on the Mana Intake segment Cobon." I nod my head and use my other hand to tap on the screen.

"Twenty six out of twenty six, okay," Molly says nodding her head making a mental picture of my stat screen. I take my hand off the stone causing the screen to dissapear. Trailblazer grabs the cube about to put it back up again. "Do you two have place to stay for the night," he ask us. "Yes me and my boyfriend were already renting a room at Mama''s Inn," Molly answers standing up. I stand up too following her out of the break room. "Allright then keep safe. You should be allowed back into the store by friday." He escorts us outof their headquatarsthen stands at the entrance watching us walk away for a few minutes. We walk in complete silience down the road its after midday with the sun starting to dip down. My pajamas are now not protecting me from the harsh wind that is blowing down the street. The town center is bustling with activaty most being people preparing to go to Baseline the city state east of here. City states are large cities that have huge walls defending them. All of them border along the forest to keep the beast from attacking us back here. We are the closest town to Baseline, though we aren''t big enough to have a name yet, the town literaly consist of one road of shops and inns going to the train tracks. Molly actually came from Baseline she''s takeing a class to become a scout. Every city state to my knowledge has a school wear they train people for classes and titles. Baseline is legendary for its scout program along with its swordsman and sheildman programs. They also have a mage program, but its not as good as the rest. Only a few strongholds have good mage program. As we walk down the street I can see two guards standing out infront of the store keeping people out. The whole towns has heard the news no doubt. Rodrik is propably pissing his pants now that compitition for a general store is gone. I look down atthe ground watching the stone slide by beneath me. "Arthur is sending out a letter to his family, they like me and will hopefully be okay with taking you in for a year," Molly starts talking trying to fill in the air with noise."I don''t know much about the mage program at the school, but their requirements is that you have atleast fifty five in mana storage." Why is she still talking about this are parents just died for fricks sake. I understand thinking about where I''m going to live, but school, mages and inhertance! We near Mama''s inn. Its run by a married couple who''s family work the cooking and house cleaning. Like every place in this town. As we near the left side of the road where they are located we are force to stop by a group of Mushman walking acrossthe street. Mushman are prey and are usual eaten by large birds. Like the name suggest they are mushroom shaped with two cylinder legs directly at the bottom of their body which is all white. They have two eyes, mouth with sharpish teeth and holes on the front and side of the body that are thenose and ears. They travel in packs of thirty to forty. Most people don''t bother them unless they they have colored markings signalling they have a abnormal property. They live all over the continet but seem to be migrating here do to the lack of beast. "Ahhhh that one has a baby," Molly points to a big one carring a baby on its head. This pack is rather large with what looks to be forty five members. They travel in a strait line taking a couple of minutes to pass us completely. We resume walking making it to Mama''s inn and opening the door where Arthur is waiting for us. A week goes by. My parents bodies are wrapped up in cloth and put into coffins. Ilo and Cassus arrive after resieving letters of our parents passing. Ilo is about five eight with black hair and black eyes, he has a wife with a baby girl. He practically sprited to mewhen he saw me wrapping me in a big hug. I hugged him back its hasn''t been a goodweek. Crassus arrived beforeIlo and did what Molly thought he would do. He looks just like Ilo and dad around five eight with black hair and black eyes. He on the other didn''t greet me with a hug. The first thing he did when he came back was barge into the store and check to see if any of the merchandise was stolen then he tried to get into the safe to count the money. Which I''m sure a large portion would have just gone missing. Thankfully one of the other trade owners saw him and alerted us. Arthur had a nice chat with him on where he would be staying. Then Cassus demanded that we read the will right away to see who our parents left the store to. We refused saying that all siblings needed to be here. Nowwe all are. And we are going to a funeral. The sevenof us including Arthur and Ilo''s wife and daughter are the only ones to attend we stand in the middle of a baren platue near town where other dead have been buried. Along with the Preacher to do a sermon. The men all wear black robesand the woman black dresses. "The aftermath of this horific tragedy will shape the lives of all those who hold these two dear. And teach a valuable lesson to everyone one who hears it." The preacher says gesturing to thte two coffins."Let us take to heart the lesson being taught here. That once you have committed yourself to one person and forged that sacred bond by wearing a ring no one else on this planet should ever gather your eye more than your spouse. In the name of Eos I bless these two to find holy santum in the after life. Amen." """""""Amen.""""""" We all repeat. I stand there for a few minutes watching several people walk over and lay the coffins into the ground then start shoveling dirt onto them. Molly grabs my shoulder and pulls me away. We start walking back to town now preparing for a fight. A young judge has come down to read over the will today. "What did the Preist mean when he said that ''no one else on this planet should ever gather your eye more than your spouse''," Ilo ask his handon his wife''s back. Molly and Arthur look at each other. We never actualling explained either of them how mom and dad died. I geuss they assumed it was an accident in the basement the crates just fell over while they were doing an inventory check. "Yeah that was unexpected," Cassus says walking a few feet away from the group. Molly tries to come up with a quick way to explain it to them. "Dad cheated on mom. Mom figured out and conored him in the basement shooting him with a capture shot then using an emasculator to cut his balls off," I say quietly but loud enough to be heard,"he got out and stabbed mom to death, but died of blood loss be for we could get to him." Ilo his wife and Cassus''s mouths drop. "Damn," Cassus says. We walk in silence for the rest of the trip. As we near the town we walk in from behind the store. Crassus has almost completely distance himself from us now. Walking ten feet away from us. No suprise to anyone here. We''ve been talking about the outcome of the store and who actually wants it. Ilo has his own store that is successful so he doesn''t have the need or time to run this one. His wife agrees. Molly already has a job lined up after school and never has had any intrest in running the store. I don''t really know what I want to do, but sense I have mana getting the mage class will probably be the only option I have. So the collective attitude of the group is to let Cassus have the store, but take as much money we can from it. What did you expect we are children of two people with the merchant skill. Letting money walk away isn''t in our blood. We arrive on the street and start heading to the ''political building''. It is where all legal disputes are settled. We step inside the building Arthur holding open the door for us. Four The political building has two floors. The first floor is set up like a court room with two large tables on both sides and a tall podium inbetween the tables where a judge sits. A judge isn''t someone who has a law degree or anything like that. A judge is someone appointed by a King of a city state to deal with legal matters or matters that may end in bloodshed. They hear both sides of the argument and decide the best way to solve thte prediciment, they also read wills and coordinate large lands sellings. The Judge at the hearing read the will alloud for everyone to hear. He said it clearly and pronounced every word. He was young around twenty six years old and had a shaven head. Everyone sits at the tables Cassus choose to sit by himself at the right one. "This will written on 101 of Plantseed in the year 306 is an instruction on how the money and assets of the reasontly passed shall be distributed. Starting with their oldest son Ilo your parents leave you six hundredsilver coins and rights to all trading contrants they have set in place." Ilo grips the table his nuckles whitening. Six hundred silver is enough to live on for five months, and all their contrants must be worth several gold. Dang they must''ve really liked Ilo."Now to Cassus your parents leave you six hundred silver and all the contants of the basement. To Molly," Cassus smiles deeply no doubt he''ll find a buyers all across the easters sea board," your parents leave you eighthundred silver and fourhundred silver which will be used to pay for the rest of your schooling." Molly nods looking at Arthur who also nods. No doubt this helps her out the school cost alot of money. Now its finally my turn."To Cobon your parents leave you two gold peices and seven hundred silver." "Tahuh," the air leaves my lungs as if I was punched in the gut. Two gold pieces god I knew the buisness was successful but dang. One Gold peice is equal to one thousand silvers, I''m rich I may not even need to work for the rest of my life! "But you will only have access to three hundred silver until you turn eighteen, and one gold is to be used to pay for your schooling," Oh. That''s understandable. Crassus''s face contorts to a scowl, but he keeps his cool. Everyone else''s eyes go a wide. "The last part of the will shall discuss the ownership of the store. The first thing to be discussed is shall the store be sold if so the profitsshall be split evenly among the four siblings. Can this be agreed on at this moment." The judge looks up at us now. Ilo looks over at Crassus. "I''m not lettingthat little tick have any more money," Crassus says throwing me a snear. The judge looks over the tables."Does this mean the store is not being sold?" "Yes," Ilo says,"yes it does." "Now that has been settled the next question shall be ask. If the store shall not be sold who here wants ownership if multiple people say yes it will become part ownership if a decision cannot be reached within one month the store shall be sold and profits shall be given to Baseline. Does anyone wish to forfit their rights to the store now. If yes come here and sign this paper with your name." Me and Molly stand up and walk over to the podium. Molly like I said earlier has never wanted to run the store and I''m too young to go against Cassus. And I just inheritid two gold from my parents I think that I would look greedy if I tried to get the store too. Molly signs her named down then lifts me up so I can sign mine down too. "Now that this doesn''t concern you anymore. You may leave and collect the desimated amounts from the bank vault with these signed papers," he hands us two scrolls with his signiture on them. I grab bothand hand one with Molly''s name to her once she sat me down. We walk out the political building waving good bye to Ilo and his family. Arthur gets up and walks out with us. "Can you believe eight hundred silver," Molly grabs onto Arthur pulling him, with me following, to the bank. "If you count the four hundred silver for your schooling you got one gold two hundred silver," Arthur tells her grinning from ear to ear."And now with your schooling paid for youdon''t have to do mandatory four years of service."Love what you''re reading? Discover and support the author on the platform they originally published on. "YEAH! That means I can join the Black Shadow guild immediatly after graduating. Yes!" She hops up and down her hair flying. Me and Arthur stiffle our laughter at the exited Molly. "I''m not the only one who sould be celebrating Cobon!" She says turning her head around looking at me."Your two gold richer and have a free education." "Yeah gold I can''t even touch till I''m eighteen," I say fidgeting at my robe. "Oh thats only eight years away you''ll be fine." She says to me leaning closer to Arthur. ........ Back in the political building. "Can we have a moment to discuss the store in private," Ilo ask the judge. "Yes, but if you start fighting I''m having the guard come and seperating you two." The Judge replies. "Yes, sir that seems reasonable," Ilo thanks him and leads the three people including his daughter upstairs. The second floor has six rooms with three on each side. The group choices the last door on the right and enters. Sitting down at the table inside Ilo loosens the grip of the robes he''s wearing. "Now thatwe no longer have an audiance what do you two think will be the best course of action with the store." Ilo ask his wife and brother leaning back in the chair,"selling it is obviously out of the question. The land here is worth coppers we''d be losing hundreds of silver." "Well we got lucky mom and dad gave us everything we need to continue the store we just need to put someone of moderate mentality to run it." Crassus says leaning forward he choose a seat opposite of his brother. "I think we should expand it," Ilo''s wife says. She looks diffrent from before. Before she had brown hair, brown eyes and a warm smile. Her hair and eyes are the same, but her smile is no longer filled with warmth."The building next to it the Babouns eatery." "Bobo''s eatery." Cassus corrects her. "Whatever it is. The owner is old and his children are old too we could offer him a gold or two and he''d practically move us in. Then we tear it down build an add on to the store and triple the amount of product it can dish out. And give it a damn name I''m tired of calling it the store." "I don''t know about that, the name has sentimental value. But an add on would be a brilliant idea. We''d have more realastate to sell are merendise and look more professional." Ilo says poking his daughter making her laugh. "Speaking of gold I can''t believe that mom and dad left him with two pecies of gold. Little snot is probably bragging to Molly and her boyfriend about it now," Cassus says cursing his little brother''s name. "You handle more gold then that in week," Ilo''s wife says giving the baby over to Ilo."And I personally like the little guy. He''s quite, keeps his head down and has the possibility to become a mage." "How in thehell do you know that," Crassus leans forwards his eyes widening into saucers. "I heard your sister Molly mumbling it. Seriously that girl mumbles like theres no tomorrow. She said that he had mana and that a traveling merchant may bring them a grimoire anytime now." Ilo''s wife looks at her nails of one hand checking for damage."With one gold going to his education I think we can be a bit picky with where he is sent off to for schooling." "Agreed a mage can give us access to territories for now out of reach.... But wait they haven''t asked us about his living arrangements they may have someone already in mind." Ilo says taking his daughter from his wife and rocking her. "And what if they do?" Cassus ask snobly,"that thing needs to get as far away as it can get." "Well I can take a stab at it and say you don''t like him very much," Ilo says raising one eyebrow and smirking. Crassus grits his teeth."Not at all. You don''t understand you were gone while he was still in diapers that little shit was a devil." "I think you''re exaggerating just a bit," Ilo''s wife rolls her eyes."He''s ten when I was his age I was anoying my siblings a fair amount too. After puberty he''ll straiten out." "And all scemeing and money aside he is our little brother. I am not letter some stranger raise him and fill his head with ideals. The city state we''re staying at would be perfect for someone of his age. Warm with hardly any winter and actually has people of his age around. With powerful familiesof course." "Its never to early to arrange a marriage," his wife says twirling her finger then pointing it at her husband,"and given how your parents were done in the ding-a-ling in his pants may need a little help." "Oh god I wish they would''ve mentioned how they died." Crassus says angrily,"all this time I thought some grates fell over ontop of them, but to kill each other." "I think its poetic," Ilo''s wife says."Wife ripping off her cheating husbands testicles. Mabey I''ll do the same thing to you some day," she says staring at her smirking husband. "Oh you don''t care and to my knowledge you had a nice ''conversation'' with one of my lady friends the other day dear." Ilo respond gratling their daughter."And in my personal opinion our father liked the secrecy and lies more then the sex. I am actually disappointedit took mother this long to figure it out." "True, but to clarify the store will become a part ownership agreement between you two and me and you will send some people up here to run the store within a week agreed. And you two will attempt to buy the land next to the store." ""Agreed."" "Good now lets get the paperwork signed I want out of this damn town." Five I walk down the street bored. Ilo and his wife are talking with Molly about something. Arthur had to go back to Baseline for something a couple days ago leaving Molly here to finilize certianthings. Crassus also left soon after the will was read. Not that I''m complaining he''s never been a nice person. In total it has been five days sence the will was read. Making this the second day of Stemgrow. Stemgrow is one of three months that make up the year. The first is Plantseed then Stemgrow then Haverstmoon. Each month has one hundred and twenty days, but a day or two is added to a certian month depending on what holiday is comming up. Like you can imagine the calender is based on farming letting farmers know how on time they are. I''m walking up the road away from the train station. The buildings stopped a couple of dozen feet back now its just small segments of grassland surrounded by dense forest. Truely everything on the east coast is forest just the segements we humans have cleared of trees is grassland. The sun beats down from the sky overhead doing a little to warm the suronding area. I see another small pack of mushmen walking down the street this one with about thirty members. I walk by it scaring the pack slightly. "Times like this I almost wish school wasn''t closed for break," I say peering over the landscape something catching my eye. Down the road aways a merchant cart glisens in the sunshine. Yes! He''s back! I run down the road waving my hands in the air. The merchant sitting on the cart with his hands on reigns that are wrapped around a pair of red donkeys sees the sight and laughs slightly. He is an old man with a long silver beard and grey eyes. He wears a hide shirt, hide pants and hide boots all the same color of tan brown. He also has a large straw hat that covers the majority of his face. "Mr. Johnson," I yell hoping thats him and not some random merchant. "Ahoy there lad," he yells back waving back with one hand."I haveno idea who this young man is, but if he''s comming for a good trade have at him," he mumbles to himself. I skid to a stop by his cart. Its filled with stuff that''s covered by a white tarp. "Hello there young man," Mr. Johnson says laughing a little,"What can I do you for?" "Do you have the Grimoire that we placed an order for?" I ask,"you came by a couple of weeks ago and said you would look for one." Mr. Johnson nods thinking."I do have a grimoire and other magical related items, I''ll still need to collect a finders fee of course, but tell me the names of the people who preordered them." My body goes a little cold."Jim and Samatha they used to run the store in town." "Correct let me go get it real quick. I''ll need two silvers for the holding fee." Mr. Johnson says loosening the reigns on his donkeys. Then he crawls over to the back of the cart and pulls back the tarp reaching in. I scour my pockets pulling out my coin bag. My family(aka my sister) only let me withdraw twenty five silver. More than enough to pay, but I wish I had more. Yeah yeah I know rich kid problems. I loosen the top part and take out two silver. Mr. Johnson pulls out a thick book that makes me gulp. Its a dark brown with torn edges and takes two hands to grip. "Silver first," he says stepping off the cart and walking over to me. I hand him the silver and he hands me the grimoire. "Thank you, what did you mean by other magical items," I ask holding the book close to my chest with my coin bag still out. Showing that I had plenty of silver still left. "Oh wands, staffs, robes and cloaks that help regenerate manaquicker. Limited supply you see got to be picky who I sell too." He says leaning against the cart. "Limited population to sell to," I say pulling out five silver,"and wouldn''t you rather have more silver before going into a town, be easier to trade." "Hmmm true more silver is always appriacted, but profit is profit and most of the items pertainingto magic are somewhat expensive." He says gesturering with one hand. "I''d imagine," I say growing tired of saleman banter. I was raised in a merchant store so I know how to make deals and talk to people relatively well. Both my parents aquired the speech skill, anaylize skill and the calculations enhancement skill which after a while let them both get the merchant class. In simple terms they were very good at making a sell and buying good material and they liked it alot. I never really got the liking part down so I think I''ll start talking numbers now. "Well they can''t be too expensive because you would never be able to sell them. How about tensilver for astaff and cloak." "I was thinking more along twenty silver." He says. Yeah not happening. "I can go up to thirteen," I say. "17, and I''ll let you upgrade to a robe." I bite my lip doing the math. I have twenty threesilvernow minus seventeen will give me six and I still have one hundred seventy five still in the bank. I can afford this it''ll hurt though. "Allright I accept," I say counting out the silver. "Nice I''ll go get them real quick." Mr. Johnson nods his head and goes back behind the cart reaching in. Finding the staff and robe quickly he hands them to me after I give him the seventeen silver. I put my coin bag back in my pockets and wrapp my arms around the robe and staff. Along with the grimoire this stuff weighs a ton. "Thanks Mr. Johnson," I say my face somewhat blocked by the stuff in my arms. "No problem lad. Hay are Jim and Samatha running the store today?" Mr. Johnson ask climbing back into his seat. "Uh no." I say feeling uncomforable,"there was an accident a few weeks back and they um they didn''t make it." Mr. Johnson goes stiff then slackens a bit."Really?" "Yeah, wasn''t anything they could do for them."The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. "Huuhhhgg," Mr. Johnson sighs leaning back in his seat."Thats a shame they were good people. Real good people." He''s quiet for a few moments then tells me something."Lad let me tell you something. In this worlddeath waits around every corner. You just have to be strong enough to fight it off for as long as you can. And sometimes," Mr. Johnson looks up at the sky his wrinkled face with a sad expression,"thats not even good enough." He pulls the reigns on the donkeys making them start walking again. It takes me awhile to move my feet. What he said sounded sad and defeated. I hope I''m not like that when I''m old. I go and walk into the woods. The robe sliding against the grass. I don''t go in far only a couple of trees in. There I sat my newly aquired grimoire and staff on the ground. Now with my hands free I examine the robe. It''s brown with a weird gleam to it along the edges. The gleam is a light purple and can barely be seen. I wish I had the analyze skill it can tell you the basic information on inatimate objects. I look over the material checking to see if there are any critters on it. It passes the test and I decide to put it on. It smells like old wood. Pulling my arms through the arm holes I wonder how I''m supposed to tie this when there isn''t anything to tie it with. Then to my amazment once one side of the robe overlaps the other it just sticks in place. I own magic items for five minutes and I''m already stumped. Doesn''t matter now its time for the good stuff the grimoire. I pick a random tree nearby and make myself comforable. Picking up the grimoire I study the cover. It''s brown with artistic markings drawn all over it. The center is marked with a circle with the name of the book embolded with dark letter on it. Beginners Journey To Magic Volume One I grin excited. I turn the first page inmersing myself in the words. Introduction The study of magic is a broad field of study. With many distinctive ways to use magic it is often confusing for newcommers to pick which field to study. Thisfirst book in a three part seriers hopes to educate you the reader on the basics of magic society. Though it is a collective consenses among every magic user that spells should not be shown to the whole populace given the dangers of an untrained mage. I will provide the reader three non compatant non threatening spells that can only be seen after you read the enterity of this book cover to cover. Now lets start the education. Chapter One First Steps You have just discovered you havemana. Evenwith the small amount that currently resides within you it makes you a possible mage. The first thing in order is to explain what mana is. Mana is the force that moves through the world supplying the living things and all non livings with power. As of now it isn''t entirerly clear how mana operates around the world on a large scale but on small scale the effcts are noticed almost immediatly. For beast mana is regenerated bypulling it from the world, the same is true for humans, and then immediatly pushed into the body strengening it considerably. Humans on the other hand cannont subconsciouslyput mana into their bodies, but can consoiusly if they study a certain feild. A young human who has mana will not even notice it unless they have an upserdly high amount. So for humans to cast a spell they must consciously think about it and understand it. So logically humans with mana need a large mentality stat to understand and control high level spells. But, the mentality stat in no way hinders or exells mana regeneration of mana storage. To be clear someone with one mentaility can still hold ungodly amounts of mana, and get themselves killed if they tried using it. But back on the topic of mana more importantly the way it works in the human body. Mana is exorbed into the body, by an unknown means, which is then stored in the center of the chest. The exorbtion or the Mana regeneration rate varies widely among people. It has been notice over several studies that more than ninety percent of mages can completetly refill their storage in one day or less. The last ten percent usual had a very high mana storage. Now the last part of mana in the human body is mana storage. Mana is stored in the center of the chest with more mana it takes up more of the body. The storage of mana is the easiest part of mana to increase like a muscle the more you use it and the more of it you use the higher amount you can obtain. Mana storage is also shown by the color of your mana. Though not a clear tell tale it does give a range on a mages storage. Purple (25-100) Blue (101-500) Green (501-2500) Yellow (2501-10,000) Red (10,001-50,000) Pink (50,001-250,000) Silver (250,001- 1,000,000) Any mage can see another mages mana color, unless it it hidden by a magic item at which a mage can only see the mana of the item. Now with that out of the way I will explain a young mana possesers body. Mana effects the human body in a variety of ways. Even if the reader has only just discovered they have mana you will find that you share the most basic of these effects. Strength you have never been very strong or it has been very hard for you to gain muscle. You can see a little bit of glow on some things but you can''t tell what it is. And finally after you finish reading this sentence you''ll find yourself pissing your pants.Fear. [Mama''s Inn] Molly sits down at a round table near a corner with Ilo and his wife facing her. "I don''t understand why you''re being so difficult," Ilo says leaning back in his chair."You know only a few city stateshave a good mage program and Baseline isn''t one of them." "The school doesn''t worry me what worries me is the way you''ll raise him." Molly shoots back. These three have been going back in forth for days on where Cobon should go. Molly wants him to go to Baseline and Ilo and his wife want him to go with them to their city state. "What do you think I''ll do bring him to a brothel. He will be given the best food the best clothing and the best education. And unlike you I have maids that can look after him everyday." Ilo says his voice raising. "You never cared for him when you lived here whats changed," Molly shoots back. "I was eighteen and was more focused on seeing the world and he was TWO. Things are diffrent now." Ilo is becoming increasingly agitated. "How about we let him deside," Ilo''s wife says shocked like it was unheard of,"sense it is his life we are discussing." Molly and Ilo look at each other agreeing distastefully. "Where is he?" Ilo ask looking around the inn. "He left the moment you three sat down to talk," the inn keeper Mama an old lady with curly brown hair tells them rolling her eyes."With the way this conversation is going I don''t blame him." Ilo lets the remark slide. "I''ll go look for him," Ilo says standing up."He is more than likely walking around the woods somewhere, thats where I went when I was his age." He leaves the inn leaving the two women to talk with awkward silience. Eventaully that gets boring so Ilo''s wife starts asking Molly some questions. "Why is it that both your brothers seem to dislike you," she ask Molly. "Because I dislike them back," Molly says coldly,"No the real reason is because they are just like father. Liars and cheaters who can''t stay loyal even if it cost them their life." Ilo''s wife laughs."And you think that makes them terrible girl you must be blind. You''ve been in Baseline long enough to know that there are more evil men than your brothers." Molly sits in anger her face getting bright red. "Oh don''t get mad dear I''m just telling the truth. And back on the topic of Cobon what will you do with him if he decides to go with you. You can''t be with him all the time and I doubt you have a nanny." "Arthur''s family would be willing to take care of him," Molly says trying to make her point. "Oh a family you''ve known for a year vs the one you have grown up with, wow awfully trusting are we." Ilo''s wife jabs at Molly her eyes squinting slightly. "Why do you love him," Molly ask trying to fight back,"my brother you know he''s cheating you have too." "Know! Hell if it wasn''t for me he wouldn''t get half the woman heshags," Ilo''s wife laughs hasterically,"And its simple the reason why I love him is because if a fire burns down everything we own he''ll still be there helping me shift through the ruble." Six My whole body is paralyzed, sweat tricles down my face. I can''t even breath right. Finally after several seconds of terror I calm down slouching into the tree I was leaning on. "What the hell," I say to myself. I start reading the grimoire again trying to figure out what that was. Do not be alarmed that reaction is completely normal you have just read mana infused lettering. The exact process is complicated and involves several years of study in the Word Arts feild, just know I infused a certain type of mana into the word. Now normal human eyes wouldn''t even be able to see the word Fear I have written down. The reason for this is that I used no ink when writing the word only mana. Now moving on. The last basic effect mana has on the body is that is allows the body instinctual fear and liking towards certain mana types. Now the specifics of this has been widely studied and just the theorys would take several books to explain. Just know if a certain feeling encompasses the body that makes you scared beyond belief run the opposite direction. With the meaning of mana out of the way. Now the next segment of this chapter will discuss the main types of mana in the human body and what percentage of mana wielding individuals have an affinity for each oneof these types. The human body is made up of electric mana, life mana, earth mana, water mana, and air mana. This does not mean that humans cannot have another affinity only that these are what make up the human body. The percentages go like this. From most populace to least populace. Water Mana (40%) Earth Mana (30%) Life Mana (12%) Electric Mana (8%) Air Mana (8%) Other Mana (2%) The reason that these percentages are worth mentioning is that it shows the possibility of the mana you possess. Now the next question that should be ask is ''how does one check for their affinity?'' The simplist answer is that its impossible. Atleast for humans with a mana starge under one hundred. A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. Let me clarify. A human cannot know their affinity until their mana storage reaches one hundred when that happens the mana prolapses revealing the affinity. The theory behind it is that mana needs a certain amount of itself to be potent enough to be useable. Now once the affinity has been discovered the feild of study should be choosen very carefully and with much consideration, but I will spoil the bubble foarming around the readers head. To actually study a field takes atleast two years to get caught up with in study, practice in magic and build up the storage big enough to be used continuseably throught the day. But this book is getting ahead of itself. Now lets focuse on how most of the mana types listed above work in a practical setting. Water mana can for example be - "There you are!" Someone yellsright next to me. "Ahh," I jump slamming on a nearby tree root. "So this is where you''ve been hiding," my brother Ilo says standing next to me looking at the staff on the ground. "You scared me," I say picking up the grimoire. Dusting off the dirt that got on it I lean over to pick up the staff. Ilo reaches down before me and picks it up examining it with his analyze skill. "Where''d you get this lttle treasure," he says moving his hand down the shaft. His eyes have a small shiny spots in the middle of them letting me know he''s analyzing it. "A trader came by here thirty minutes ago and I bought it off him," I tell him standing up grimoire firmly in my hands."I also bought this grimoire and mana regeneration robe for a total of nineteen silver." "Do you think you got a good deal?" He ask using analyze on the robe and grimoire. "I don''t know," I tell him honestly."I got him down a fewof silverfromhis starting price so thats good." He turns off his anaylze skill nodding."Well let me confirm you did I would have sold these things for a forty silver at my store. Another question how does that grimoire work exactly? I''ve held a couple before but never opened them." "I''ve only been reading it for thirty minutes so I really don''t know, but from what I''ve gathered there is magic in the book that affects only people with mana. It''s actually said it a couple of times." I show him the book. "Interesting, is there any spells that you can learn from the book?" He ask gesturing for me to follow him. "Yes three, but I have no idea what they are going to be. Nothing interesting from what the introduction said. Why''d you come get me? Did something happen?" I ask following him. "No nothing bad," he reashures me as we make it to the road turning towards town."But it is time for you to choose who you want to go with. I know you don''t want to stay here." I nod my head a feeling of dread comming over me. I knew this was going to happen adventually. I just ..... I just ..... Wish I didn''t have to make the choice I would just rather have someone else do it for me. We walk all the way to Mama''s Inn once inside I take a seat at the table Molly and Ilo''s wife are sitting at. My seet is inbetween the two groups making the decision harder. "I know this isn''t the way it should be, but it has to be done brother." Ilo tells me. "I just want you to know that whoever you choice we will honor that decision and not hold it against you," Molly tells me. Delaying will only make it worse so I need to make the desicion now. "Okay I will go with- Not A Chapter Poll 1 I decided to let you guys decide who he should go with. Molly or Ilo and his wife. I have a basic idea on how this choice will affect the story. Again I am writing this as I go along so I don''t know how either choice will shape out. If he choices Ilo he will go north and be able to study with advanced teachers. If he choices Molly he''ll stay in the current reagion and live at Baseline were he''ll study with adequat teachers. Each choice has more volume to it than I choose to write down now. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. Seven "Molly," I say a pressure revealing itself off my chest. I made the choice because I''ve know Molly for a long time, all my lifeinfact. And I trust her more than I do Ilo and his wife, his wife in particular just sets off alarms bells in my head the longer I am near her. Ilo nods dissapointment visable in his face."If that is your wish," he looks at Molly," I presume you are leaving on the midday train. You two should hurry it will be leaving in a few minutes. And Cobon," he looks at me,"I won''t ever hold you against this. If you need anything don''t be afriad to ask. Me and my wife will be going back to ourstore the Traders Infestation at Strongwall in a couple of days. Goodbye you two." We say our goodbyes and quickly get our stuff ready to leave. Ilo and his wife don''t walk with us down to the train, which I''m glad it would only make it more awkward. As me and Molly take our seats on the train she starts describing Baseline to me. "It''s big with about fifty thousand people living inside the city walls. You will notice the walls first they are massive. They are fifty five feet high and twenty feet thick. Sentries walk along the entire wall watching out over the forest. Oh before I forgot the moment you step foot in Baseline you are not allowed to leave the city." She says rambling. "What," I yelp. "The forest aretoo dangerous, most guards won''t even let you out unless you sixteen and above," she tells me. "What do you mean by dangerous," I ask inocently,"a few wolves can''t be that bad." "Trust me Cobon there are more than just wolves, near Baseline there is a large population of andaconi eating the wolves. Andaconi are huge snakes big enough to eat a man whole. They are second tier beast and usually need two to three people to kill them." She leans back in her seat getting comforable."I''m going to sleep now the train will take six hoursto get to Baseline. When we get there I''ll show you where you will be living from now on." She closes her eyes going to sleep. She''s always been lucky like that, she can go to sleep anywhere. The train starts up and begins to head down the mana feild tracks. The train system here is a bit simple, but at the same time complicated. A train is a large mechanized vehical powered by a mana engine. I don''t know how mana engines work but from what I''ve heard the mana inside causes some type of forcethat causes something to move which causes something else to move which causes the train to move. A plus explanation skills. The tracks are made from wood and a special tree wood fromIron Pine trees. The Iron Pinewoodis about seventy five percent the strength of ironand can be producedat a much more stable and larger rate than actual iron ore. The train tracks themselves are very limited in number. Only five city states have them availble. The tracks for Baseline start at the Baseline platform then make a large circle around the countryside before finally stopping back at Baseline. We got this technology from the Gold Elfs when we first made contact as a symbol of peace. I think that was a hundred years ago now if I remember my history right. The forest screams by with giant trees blocking the intieror. I think that describes most of the forest around here. I rest my grimoire on my lap and open it starting from where I left off. [3 Hours Later] I crack my neck a seriers of pops echoing into my ears. I''ve been hunched over for about three hours reading the grimoire. So far it''s explained how the five basic mana types are used by beginners and how each one can be utilized for diffrent feilds of study. Thankfully their were some drawings to help visualize. I continue reading. Its still on chapter one. To summerize each feild of study can be accessed by all mana types, but certain ones are more favorable to specific mana. Now with chapter one out of the waythis book will teach the readerwhat is most likley their first spell. This spell is non combatant and can be used without any affinity. This author suggest you be sitting down in ethier a bed or reclinerable chair before reading the next page. And to be excited. My grip on the grimoire tightens. A little grin peaks the corners of my mouth. I make sure I''m seated firmly and grab the handle attachted to the side of my chair and recline as far as it will let me. Recliners work by a string system when the string is slack the recliner is straight up as you pull on a handle it tightens the string making the chair lean back. It really isn''t a string more like a inch wide rope, but the image is clear. For a recliner to actually be brought into a house the rope must be fasined to the ground making it a costly indevor only the wealthy can afford. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it. The seat reclines only a few inches, but this will have to do. Remembering what happend last time I use my feet to move my stuff, an assortment of wool bags tide together, out from underneath my seat out into the middle of the floor. Mentaly preparing myself I turn the page of the grimoire. The first spell that shal be taught in this book seriers is the spellLight Finger. This spell forcesmana into a chossen finger and creates an arua of light around it. Advancment of this spell can make both hands light up. Screens appear in my vision confusing my already bruised mind. They dissapear quick, not without allerting my sister however. "What did you just do?" She ask leaning in close to me. Her eyes suspicious. "Read a grimoire .... head hurts .... got a spell." I sputter out closing my eyes. The tension is slowly difussing, but not fast enough for my likeing. "Well that would cause a headache, let me see the grimoire," she doesn''t wait for my permission and just takes it flipping through the pages. I open my eyes sitting straight up in my chair. Rubbing my face I look over to Molly. "I didn''t think that it would be that forceful." I tell her. "Wellyou are magically getting knowledge shoved into your noggin I wouldn''t think it would be gentle. You should be careful with how many spells you learn this way, some of my friends in Baseline are mages and they say that there is a limit to how many spells can be learned from grimoires." She closes the book and sits it on my bags. "I wouldn''t want to learn all my spells this way. It feels wrong." I shake my head getting rid of the last feelings of tension."But thats not important right now." I say the grin from before reappearing on my face. "I just got a spell! I am defianatly going to try it," I move my arms to where they are facing ahead of me. Readying the spell. "How about no," Molly the destroyer of fun and happiness grabs my hands and pulls them back to my chest."I''d rather not be blow up today." "I ain''t gonna blow stuff up honest," I beg,"It''s just a light spell." "Now you aredefanatly not," She says enfasising the word defanatly."The strongest mage in the mages program is a light mage." "Really what does she do-" PFFFSCREEEEEEECHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! The train jerks foward sending me and Molly flying to the ground. Then I''m turned upside down floating in midair. I look at Molly her eyes meet mine as we both slam into the side of the train cart. Eight [Cobon] Light sprinkles around my face. My eyes flutter open revealing the carnageinside the train. Chairs are thrown everywhere with rope stretched totearing. "Molly?" I cough propping myself up on my elbows. She isn''t near me. Hopefully she is just blocked by the chairs. I getto my feet my head scrapping the crunched in walls of the train. The train has been flipped overon its side with only smallwindows to escape out. I take a step using anything near me as leverage, my body has pains all over with my chest being the worst. "Molly!" I call again, looking around. I see some of my belongings still in their bags littering the ground, but I don''t pick them up. Again she doesn''t answer. God please be allright. I search the entirity off the train finding nothing. The back door is crushed in making it impossible to open it and the side door is facing the ground eliminatingthat option. The windows are it then. I scan each one looking for one with less glass shards lining the edge. Finding none that fit this role I grab a peice of torn rope and clean up a window. Satisfied I grab the side of the window and jump. Using the force I throw my arms threw the hole grabbing onto the bent metal. I drag myself out with a few kicks to help. The sun shines through the top part of the trees beggining its final hours of descent. The train had only three cars me and Molly were in the middle one. Its turned over looking like a crunched up peice of metal, the back car has only a few scrapes and is still partially on the tracks and the front car .... Oh god. Its completely destroyed. The entire cart has been split in half and crushed. The tracks are splintered with giant shardssticking out of the ground. "Molly!" I shout. No answer. Dadum. The ground shakes. My body freezes up, with an icy feeling going down my spine. I turn looking into the forest. I see a large shape moving through the trees. Its body rubs against the thicks trunks of the trees shaking them. I take a step back the window I crawled out of looking like a good option. Crunch. I jerk my head to the noise my heart beating like a jackrabbit''s.This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it. Its Molly! She''s hiding behind the train car. She has her finger pressed against her month indicating for me to be quiet. I nod moving to her position slowly. My feet scratch the side of the train making little noises. The thing in the woods moves down the tracks not seemingly to notice me. Finally I jump off the train landing next to Molly stumbling to my side. She catches me lifting me up to my feet. She keeps a hand on my arm and leads me to the first train car away from the thing. We crouch close to the ground almost to the point of crawling. We near the front mess of the train car where the engine was. Parts of it are scattered across the ground. Molly turns my head pointing to a spot next to a wheel that is high enough to block both of us from sight. I nod walking with her to the spot. We lean into the side peice of metal. "Did you get a good look at it," she ask quietly looking around. "No the trees blocked it," I tell her,"but it is huge. I don''t know how it didn''t hear me." "Just be grateful it didn''t. Now the nearest town is Zarif, I don''t know how long of a walk it will be but be prepared to walk without sunlight. Lets wait for a few minutes before heading off just incase the beast descides to circle back." She keeps moving her eyes quickly serying the terrian. I nod looking ahead. It is going to be a straight shot from here to Zarif we won''t have cover. The woods are not a possibility they are too dangerous this far away from a town or city state. We wait in silence. No birdscan be heard singing or any other creature. What beast was that? I ask myself. There hasn''t been anything like that here since the city states started defending the coast. She signals to move foward. We start out crouching but quickly turn to running. .... "I can''t run anymore," I wheez slumping to my knees. "We have to Cobon the sun is almost down the tracks won''t keep us safe." Molly tells me grabbing my arm pulling me up. My stomach hurts with hunger, my throat is dry and my legs are sore from all the running we''ve done. I weez again getting to my feet. Whatever that thing was its scared Molly senseless. I don''t know how she keeps running its like she never gets tired. We keep running going up a hill. "Whoa!" A man yells pulling the reigns on a horse. He misses cussing a few times. "What in gods name are you two doing here," he yells at us."Didn''t you get the warning." Molly shakes off the yelling."No we were on the train." "The train then why are you.... oh no." The man goes quiet he gets off his horse asking us questions."What happen?" He''s wearing dark green camofloage light armor with the Baseline symbol on it. He must be a scout for the legion. "Something hit the train," Molly tells."Its completly destroyed and the train operator and conductor are dead. And whatever it was its moving that way," she points behind us. "Explains why you''re going this way," the scout says."There is a base of works being set up at Zarif. I''ll take you back where you can give a more descriptive explanation to the general." He helps us oto the horse with me getting squitched inbetween them.
