《Welcome to the Real World》
Chapter 1 - Jail?
Dublin City - 7th of May 2015
The dying echoes of screams bounce off the walls of the city buildings until there''s naught but silence.
The pounding of footsteps on rooftops echoes through midnight Dublin.
Unlike other major cities, Dublin is very quiet at night. There''s not a soul to see. It will remain so until partygoers flood the streets as clubs and bars close; but that won''t be for a while yet, and so the quiet remains.
The buildings on either side of College Green are sperated by a wide road and many statues.
The hooting of an owl mirrors the pounding of footsteps. On the flat skyline of Dublin City a dark figure runs.
Streaked in blood, the dark figure leaps from one roof to the next and then stops, panting. He stands on the edge of a roof, facing the wide street. Across is where he needs to go, but he''s wary of stepping into the light.
"Bloody level up," he pants, "not what I need right now." He dismisses the Leap notification and looks ahead. Standing at the edge of the building, he wipes blood from his mouth, blue eyes flashing in the moonlight as he stares over the city. He listens intently to the sounds of the city, straining his ears for the telltale signs that he''s being followed. But only silence greets his ears, he sighs and flops down in exhaustion. He pulls his phone out, muttering "Better tell Lilith about this," to himself.
It''s at this precise moment a faint scuffling scratches at his ears, his body stiffens and stills, craning for any sound.
Again, he hears the scuffling. As a frown begins to form he begins to hear a thrum of pounding footsteps on the stairwell leading to the roof.
"Fuck." He groans, pulling his weary body up, tendrils of shadows curl around his body. He steps out over the building as shadows envelop him and then unwind around him on the rooftop across the street, the almost corporeal black shadows disperse in the gentle breeze.
He gasps and stumbles as he lands on the roof, dropping to one knee as his vision blurs.
"Flit is an incredible skill," he mutters, "but two is the limit." He shivers in agony.
Across the street there''s a bang on the roof as police, clad in black uniforms, storm onto the roof. Sirens erupt on the street below as four police cars race along the road into position.
"He''s across the street!" One of the policemen yell, and everyone turns to where he''s pointing. Barely making out the stark white figure clad in black.
"Fire at will." A solemn voice orders, and gunshots tear through the night.
On the other side of the street the blood streaked man starts moving as soon as the officers storm onto the roof, stumbling along and gasping in pain.
Did you know this story is from Royal Road? Read the official version for free and support the author.Gasps turn to screams of agony as a bullet tears through his gut, but he keeps running. Shadows begin to gather, whirling around him.
"I''d rather die flitting, tearing apart my own body tha-" he mutters, before being cut short by a bullet ripping through his leg. Blood flicks out across the night sky, like an artist whipping their paint brush along a black canvas. His body crumples and falls sideways, off the roof of the building and down onto the street below. A sickening thud and spray of blood marking his landing.
He lies unmoving, as he''s checked.
"He''s alive," a voice shouts, "minimal injuries other than the bullet wounds." The voice adds.
"Fuck, who survives something like that.. like that," A younger officer comments, face blanched white.
A beefy man strolls up, blessing himself.
"Make room." He commands, his deep voice rolling out over the blaring sirens and jostle as people gather. A gentle breeze caries the scent of blood and the sound of the city waking, gathering to see what has happened.
He strolls to the man lying unconscious on the street, the surrounding officers fall silent.
He stands, examining the man. Leaning in he takes a good look at his face and turning to his right shouts, "Darren, get him to the station and patch him, we''re questioning him. If he dies, he dies. I want to know what the fuck is going on in my city."
"Yes sir," Darren nods, "but Pat, sir, what will I have the lads tell the press, and the hospitals and the boys in the D¨¢il? They''ll all lose it if they found out we took a shot man to the station before treatment."
"It''s easy," Pat smiles while blessing himself again, "you don''t tell them we''ve shot a man. Make sure everyone keeps quiet on this."
Darren nods, his hair crawling. Everyone always said Pat was a proper religious nut, a twisted person that backed up all he did as correct according to the bible; Darren had to agree he really was insane. He stuffed the bloodied man into his cruiser and drove off.
The police remained to assure people nothing major had transpired, and keep civilians clear of the crime scene until it could be cleaned of all the gore. The scent of blood heavy in the air, a feeling of uncertainty drifted over the city. Stranger and stranger occurances had been happening lately and it was leaving people unsettled.
Dublin City, Pearse Street - Central Garda Station, that same night
"Lilith!" a man screamed. Chains rattled. A young man, covered in blood, looked around. He was strapped to a chair. Skin pale white, glinting in the moonlight seeping through barred windows in the room.
Status screen, he thought.
| Name: Aliard White |
Age: 22 |
Level: 7 |
| Race: Vampire Prince |
Class: Magician |
Threat: E |
Before he could note anything else he realises there''s another person in the room.
"Hello," Pat smiles, rosary beads wrapped around his fist.
The chains jostle as Aliard looks around bewildered.
"My name is Pat, welcome to Jail. I''ll be your personal entertainer, sorry I meant tormenter, for the evening." He grins manically as he steps forward toward Aliard, who tries to break through the layers of chain surrounding him.
Pat continues walking forward, "all I do, I do for God," he says to himself, as he slams his fist into Aliard''s face.
Chapter 2 - Noname
A week ago - 30th April
"Lilith, wait!" Aliard exclaimed, as they burst through double doors. They''re greeted by the strong smell of sweat alcohol and the thumping of club music. Lilith continued dragging Aliard along, blond hair bouncing as she danced through the crowds.
"C''mon, I wanna do one more shot," Lilith shouted over the music, barely audible, and continued dragging Aliard to the bar despite his protests. Aliard couldn''t help being annoyed, he really wasn''t drunk enough for this. The smells in clubs were nauseating and the people unbearable, unless you were drunk too; sadly he wasn''t. At least he had Lilith he reminded himself, eyes drifting over to her.
They''d been dating almost a year now, and it''d been the greatest year of his life so far. The cute dirty blond could make the most boring events fun.
"Shots!" She shouted in Aliard''s face as she handed him a dubiously green vodka shot, completely distracting him from his ruminations.
"I''m pretty sure vodka is clear," he frowned, taking a deep breath.
"All okay?" She hesitated, moving to take the shot back.
"It''s just really hot in here," He grabbed the shot and downed it before she could say anything else. But he really didn''t feel that great.
"Fuck, that''s disgusting whatever it is," Aliard grimaced. "You know, I''m not meant to drink much, so that''s the last shot for me. Doc''s orders," he said, "well he said no alcohol, but what''s a few shots?" He shrugged, stomach churning. Can''t let her outdrink me though, he thinks.
"Yeah yeah, you didn''t even wait for me to drink," she complained as she downed the shot, her face contorting in disgust at the taste.
"Ugh, yeah that''s the last house special for me too." She sticks her tongue out. Walking toward two familiar faces at a table nearby.
Aliard follows weating, stomach still churning. The acrid taste of stomach acid wells up his throat - not good, he thinks.
He grabs Lilith before she gets too far and shouts in her ear, "Uh, I''m gonna get some fresh air it''s too hot in here for me. You chill with Scarlett and Dawn, I''ll be back in a sec."
She raises her hand, about to voice her protest when she realises he''s already halfway to the door. She drops it, pouting and struts over to Scarlett and Dawn.
Aliard runs down the stairs outside the doors. There''s a split in the hall.
"Fuck." He mutters, taking the left way. After a few turns, he stumbles into an emergency door leading to a side-alley, somehow completely missing the large printed words "ALARMED DOOR".
Aliard stumbles through the doorframe, his pale face turning a shade paler as the cold air hits it. Rubbish, small bins and dumpsters line the alley. Discarded bits of cardboard, metal and wood are scattered everywhere. Aliard haggardly walks into the middle of the alley and slips on a metal pipe, catching his fall just in time to drop his hands to his knees and spew vomit everywhere.
The sound of retching echoes through the alleyway, bouncing off of the cold brick walls. As the retching dies down Aliard straightens, standing up shakily, face dead-white in the cold. He simply stands there as the shock of vomiting recedes, gradually becomes aware of his surroundings. He looks up in shock when he realises he can hear the eerie, mournful, bell-like sound of a Chopin nocturne, past the muffled thumping of the club music. It seems so out of place, yet perfectly suiting at the same time.
"So strange," he mutters, wincing as his throat grates painfully on the words from the vomiting.
He almost felt as though he had been transported through time to Paris in the 1840s. The cobbled ground beneath his feet only adding to his fantasy.
A cat sprinting by, screeching as it does, wakes him from his reverie.
"Doggy," Aliard whispers, glassy eyed; so absorbed in the sounds of the piano that he doesn''t hear the slow thudding of footsteps behind him.
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report itHe gasps in pain, grabbing his neck as he falls to his knees, one hand splashes into the vomit breaking his fall. Blood seeps between his fingers, dripping to the ground. His eyes, scrunched in pain, widen as he sees the blood. His hand trembles as he removes it from his neck, it shines bloodily in the dim alley lights. He stares, dumbly.
The sploshing of blood, on the vomit covered ground, compels him to stand.
And as he does, he''s greeted by a smiling man.
Face bloodied, fangs bared. White hair falls lazily across his face. Crazed red eyes staring straight at Aliard.
"Too slow, too slow! I gotcha good," the bloodied mouth chuckles, "ah, the blood burns, ow, ow, ouchie," his face twists, and then he bursts out into rabid laughter.
"You''re the first I''ve met that hasn''t squirmed in pain! I wonder what''ll it take to make you squirm," he squints, suddenly lashing out at the wall beside him.
"TALK TO ME," he screams, bits of brick sailing through the air.
He takes a step forward, "oh by the way," he smiles, "I''ve decided to kill you."
Aliard takes a trembling step back, and from the corner of his eye spots a thick wooden stake used for signs. Red eyes follow Aliard''s and spot the stake too.
"Good good, a big stick, it''s just what you need," he shouts, laughing. He starts walking toward Aliard slowly, hunched over as if to mimic an animal stalking its prey.
Aliard stumbles desperately, his shirt dyed red with blood shows a ghastly figure slipping on the trash that litters the alley floor. His hands, slick with blood, slip as he tries to pick up the stake, eventually grasping it weakly he shifts the point to face the white haired man.
"And what''re you gonna do with that, hmm?" He smirks as he walks closer. "Stab me? Look at you tremble, that thing barely weighs anything, you''re pathetic." He laughs manically.
Aliard nods weakly. His arms tremble as he holds the stake, "I''ll stab you if you come closer," he croaks.
"Stab me then, stab me!" The man shouts hysterically, running toward the stake.
Aliard thrusts the stake forward, closing his eyes and turning his head away. He squeezes the stake close to his body. There''s a sickening sucking, gurgling noise as the stake slides in and blood tries to rush out, seeping past the edges of the stake. Aliard shudders and turns his head. Their eyes lock.
Blue, dead and unreactive. Red wide with shock and disbelief.
Aliard stares numbly into the red eyes, which tremble as the white haired man looks down.
Aliard''s skin crawls as the white haired man looks up; and smiles.
"This hurts, it hurts so much. Oh, but can you feel it? Can you feel that," his smile widens, fresh blood seeping from his mouth. "The name''s Noname," he rasps and sinks to his knees, giggling. The stake twisting in Aliard''s hand as the angle changes, but he doesn''t let go.
"Now remove this from me." He looks up, red eyes wide. "Won''t you take it out? It really hurts." He mimics a puppy dog face.
Aliard glances down, his hands holding the stake that''s plunged deep in Noname''s chest, blood gurgling and making a horrific sucking noise as the stake shifts, and he vomits all over his arms and Noname.
Noname screams, "what the fuck," and then screams more. He falls back, the motion tearing the stake from his chest. Blood sprays out. "Agh, fuck it''s so sore, am I gonna die? No I''ll never die," he laughs manically to himself as he wipes vomit off his shirt.
He looks up at Aliard, his wild red eyes boring into him, too weak to stand he slumps down. "I''ll never die," he giggles.
"Fuck," Aliard says, raising the stake. "Silence is a true friend, who never betrays," he says to himself as he plunges the stake with all his energy into Noname''s body, gravity driving it faster and deeper than before.
Noname screams in pain, "Stop, you''re gonna kill me. You''re gonna kill me," he screams.
"No, no. I can never die," he giggles after his screams die down.
The sickening stabbing noise rings out again and again as blood sprays all over Aliard and the alley.
Aliard didn''t know when Noname stopped screaming, he was barely aware of anything. He just knew he had to keep stabbing.
Aliard didn''t know when he had dropped the stake. He didn''t understand anything that had happened.
He looked down at the mutilated body and those lifeless red eyes. There was so much blood that Noname''s hair was crimson red.
Aliard turned around, and walked wordlessly to the door he had emerged from. The second he got into the club he started running, staggering occasionally. Screams emerged around him as he reached the stairs. The white light lit the red blood brilliantly as he sprinted up the stairs, ultimately bursting through the doors on the second floor. He stumbled partway through the crowd until he saw Lilith, and then sank to his knees screaming violently.
Chapter 3 - Welcome to the Real World
St. Vincent''s University Hospital - That same night
"So you''re telling me you felt sick, ran out of the club into a side alley to vomit, where someone bit your neck and claimed they''d kill you, and as a response you murdered the guy, by stabbing him repeatedly with a large wooden stake you happened to find lying around." The policeman said, exasperated. He stood with his forefinger and thumb rubbing his eyes in frustration.
"Yes," Aliard nodded. Lilith stood by his side, quietly looking at the ground. The white walls of a hospital surround the three.
"And this is definitely true, despite the fact that the alarmed door you claim you went through didn''t trigger. And, by the way we checked and it''s working perfectly fine." The policeman continued, getting more and more frustrated.
"Yes, that''s true," Aliard nodded, swaying. Aliard''s bloodied and vomit covered clothes contrasting starkly against the hospital entrance lobby which is oddly quiet.
"And the CCTV conveniently didn''t catch any sight of you, how exactly? Can you turn invisible too?" The policeman took a deep breath, fingers twitching at his side.
"I don''t know, somebody must have hacked it or something! I swear this is the truth," Aliard protested, "Look at my shirt, There''s blood all over it!" Aliard jumped up, pulling at his clothes.
"The tests came back saying that other than your blood, the rest is fake blood. Dunno what it''s made of but it''s fake," the policeman rolled his eyes, "look kid, there''s no blood in the alley, not even any vomit. Go home and keep your nose clean from now on, yeah?" The policeman folded his arms.
"Like you said, the tests came back conclusive. I was not and am not on any drugs," Aliard raised his voice, visibly irritated. "Why don''t you do your job and investigate this properly, this is serious!" Aliard shouted.
"Alright that''s enough of that. Get out," the policeman grabbed Aliard''s arm and pushed him toward the door. "If you come across any information that wasn''t found in a novel feel free to call the police again." He shouted after them.
"That fucker. What a bastard," Aliard muttered angrily. He grabbed Lilith''s hand and strode toward a taxi angrily. "Rathmines, Bevel Road, number 7," he said to the driver as they got in. He tore his shirt off angrily, rolling it up into a ball before clutching it tightly. He sighed and rested his head against Lilith''s shoulder.
"At least we''re safe Aliard," she says to him. Giving his hand a squeeze.
Aliard smiles weakly and then freezes.
| The change will commence in 30:00 minutes. |
"Can you see that?" Aliard asks, wide eyed. The timer starts ticking down, second by second.
"See what?" She replies, "Aliard are you sure you''re okay?" She continues.
"You don''t see the floating timer?" Aliard questions, eyebrows raised.
"No, no I don''t see a floating timer. I think the stress of performing is getting to you." She says, worry written on her face.
"Performing doesn''t stress me out. Performing never has. Piano doesn''t get me fired up, okay? We''ve gone through this before." He sits up, agitated. "Piano does not stress me." He enunciates each world slowly. "It''s basically what I was born to do," he stares out the window, arms crossed. The timer completely forgotten.Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
"I''m sorry okay, gimme your hand," Lilith says, prying his arms apart and grabbing a hand. He resists weakly, before yielding. "I love you," she coos softly, resting her head on his shoulder.
"I love you too. More than anything," He replies, resting his head on hers.
Like a ghost, the taxi makes its through late-night Dublin, a lonely, quiet traveler, unnoticed and uncaring.
Eventually the taxi turns onto Bevel Road and slowly rolls to a stop outside number 7.
A tall brick georgian apartment looms, tall and narrow windows adorn the building, a garden full of dim colours in the night courts the apartment. Roses, Snowdrops, Bluebells, Daffodils, Prims and more sway lazily in the night breeze.
The taxi driver raises his eyebrows, "cute," he says, while he turns to face the two.
Who lay sleeping against each other, hand in hand. Moonlight streaming in reflecting gently on their relaxed faces, rings shimmering paley in the moonlight.
"Cute," he says again. "Alright, we''re here," he says gently.
Neither of the two stir. Their chests rise and fall, the soft sound of wind murmuring through leaves drifts through the car.
The taxi driver clears his throat, and with a bit more force says "we''re here."
Again, there''s no movement.
He sighs.
"OI YOU TWO SHITS I SAID WE''RE HERE." He roars, the two jump in fright, grumbling.
"Here," Aliard hands him the fare as they get out.
"Have a nice evening," the driver smiles at them as he slinks off into the night.
"Fucker," Aliard mutters as he walks through the garden with Lilith; moonlight dances softly across her face, still glittering from her makeup. The trees and plants sway gently behind her, soft green and muted colours dancing as the wind brushes through the flowers. To Aliard, it almost seems like the whole night was just a dream. Maybe I''m dreaming right now, he thinks.
"Come on," Lilith smiles at him, "it''s cold outside, brr," she rubs her arms, mock shivering as she giggles.
The clatter of shoes on wooden floors echoes through the apartment. It''s dead quiet, they shuffle together into the living room and collapse into each other on the couch, whispering I love you to each other before dropping into a deep sleep. The gentle pitter patter of light rain begins as they doze off. They paint an idyllic picture, snuggled together asleep in a cute apartment; pictures litter the walls of the two, potted plants and cosy furniture adorns the room. The enchanting room echoes softly, the gentle rains. A perfect picture matched by perfect sounds; peaceful breathing from soft lips, a teddy sitting in the corner, a perfect setting.
Shattered by screaming.

| Change beginning. |
Aliard rolled off the couch screaming, hands tearing at his skin as he did.
Lilith jumped off the couch, reaching out to him, "What''s wrong Aliard?" She asks, chest heaving. She grabs him and tries to hold his hands down, revealing gouges from his nails along his face and neck.
"WHAT''S WRONG," she screams at him, shaking his arms, "what''s wrong," she sobs, struggling to hold his arms down. "ALIARD" she screams again, looking down at his bloodied face. Blood drips from the gouges on his face and arms, splattering as he jerks and flails under her. Tears strike his face, but he struggles unreacting.
Until he stops.
The jerking and squirming stops, as suddenly as it had begun. He lies, breathing deeply, unmoving.
"Aliard?" Lilith questions, hesitant to let go of his arms. She stares at his bloodied face, waiting.
The pitter patter of rain picks up, stronger now than earlier. Branches of trees brush off the windows, moonlight barely seeping through the night clouds. The blood eerily drips, from Aliard''s pale face; a disturbing red smeared across it, marring the peaceful sight.
Lilith sighs and drops his arms and makes to move off of him, but collapses onto the floor; her arms unable to take her weight. She lies on the floor breathing heavily, her body a weary wreck, and simply stares at the ceiling.
Utterly exhausted, she turns to Aliard who is breathing deeply, seemingly asleep. She sighs again and lays her head on his chest, too tired to do anything else.
"Everything''s okay, everything''s fine" she mumbles.
At least the pain is gone, Aliard thinks. He''s entirely unaware of what''s happening, in a state of comatose.
| Change has begun |
| Welcome to the Real World, Aliard White. |
Chapter 4 - System (system)
In the garden of 7 Bevel Road the flowers sway in the breeze, the wind whispers through trees'' leaves, and the morning sun slowly washes the dim shadows of dawn away. The garden comes to life, like fairylights hanging from a wall lighting up one at a time, the sunlight hits the flowers bringing colour to the world.
And after the flowers it reaches the windows, where it seeps in, falling on a calm, bloodied face.
Aliard stirs as the sun hits his sleeping face; his eyes flutter open. He stares at the ceiling and it stares back. He waits; waits for the impending hangover headache. The churning of his stomach and liver, protesting the abuse he knows it can''t take anymore.
Except he feels nothing. Other than a curious weight on his chest. He looks down, and sees a mass of blonde hair,
"Agh," he screams quietly.
It screams back, except it''s not quiet at all. It''s a piercing shrill scream, with terrified eyes looking up.
"It''s okay, it''s okay," he says, regretting the little scream, he''d known it was Lilith anyway, why had he done that he can''t help but wonder.
Lilith doesn''t stop screaming though, instead she starts sobbing, blubbering unintelligible dribble all over Aliard.
"Lilith, relax," he tries to calm her, moving to wipe the dribble off of him. He pauses mid-way when he sees the blood, Lilith still sobbing all over him. His skin crawls.
"Are you okay Lilith, what happened?" He says.
"Mhmf, blud. Blegh, and then mergh and blergh." She speaks into his top, impossible to understand.
"LILITH," Aliard shouts at her.
"ALIARD," she shouts right back.
"ARE YOU OKAY," he continues the shouting war, blue eyes staring back into her spring green.
"IT''S YOUR BLOOD NOT MINE, IDIOT," she shouts back.
"WHAT? MINE?" He shouts back, incredulous. Is this a big prank by Lilith? But why would she, he wonders.
"ARE YOU NOT SORE?" She continues shouting,
"NO, I''M FINE," Aliard shouts and then shrugs. "What happened then?" He asks, wondering, a frown beginning to form.
"I DON''T KNOW YOU STARTED SCREAMING AND CLAWING AT YOURSELF," Lilith shouts back, worry plastered on her face. "ARE YOU REALLY OKAY? AREN''T YOU SORE?" She shouts into his face.
"NO, I''M REALLY OKAY I FEEL THE BEST I''VE EVER FELT, IN LIKE.. FOREVER?" He shouts back, somewhat confused.
"REALLY. REALLY REALLY? YOU PROMISE YOU''RE OKAY? YOU REALISE YOU''RE COVERED IN BLOOD AND LAST NIGHT WAS TERRIFYING." She shouts back at his face, inches from his.
"YES. YES A DOZEN TIMES YES, THIS IS A PRANK YEAH? I DON''T REMEMBER ANY OF THIS COCK." Aliard shouts, a twisted half-smile, half-frown on his face. "And you can stop shouting now," Aliard chuckles, shaking his head.
"WHAT? WHAT DID YOU SAY?" Lilith shouts back, cocking her head to one side.
"Okay enough, it''s not funny anymore," Aliard says dully.
"WHAT? THAT''S NOT ENOUGH INFO?" Lilith shouts in his face, pressing hers closer.
He rolls his eyes, shouting, "I SAID THAT''S ENOUGH SHOU-" until Lilith plants her lips firmly on his, his shout dying into a gentle murmur.
"I''m glad you seem okay, but I really wasn''t lying so I dunno. I''m gonna see what the internet says," she says, wiping her mouth, her face scrunching up. She gets up and starts stalking upstairs, but pauses to throw out, "and go clean yourself you stink of blood."
"Huh?" Aliard gets up, walking into the bathroom. It really sounds like she''s not joking, he thinks.
He stares at the bloody mess that is his face for an age. Heart smashes against his chest, nausea blooms from his stomach, up it crawls through his bbody, like a fire crawling up a branch. Hairs raised, he reaches up and runs his fingers along the bloody trails. The blood has dried, but he could almost imagine as it ran down, in bloody tracts. It looks like his face had been raked by claws.
It felt too real.
With shaking hands Aliard reaches for the tap, hand slipping on the slick metal; blood mixing with his sweat and making his hands slide along the shiny surface.
His nails scratch at the metal, they feel too long he thinks while frowning. The water runs and his hands tremble as they move under it.
Blood runs, mixing with the water, dying the basin a grim reddish-brown. Aliard scrubs at his hands and arms, flecks of bloody water splattering along the walls and mirror. He looks up at the mirror, then up at the ceiling. There''s a faint buzz coming through the floor. Finally he looks left, letting out an exasperated sigh.
"She obviously meant take a shower," he grumbles to himself, looking at the mess he''d made and strips muttering stupid to himself over and over.
As Aliard finishes up his final rinse in the shower, he notices a small blue square at the corner of his vision. Focusing on it, it pops up to cover his entire vision.

"What the f-," Aliard whispered to himself. Water running down his face, he reaches up and rubs his eyes. The blue boxes are still there.
"What the actual fuck?" Aliard says to nobody in particular. What is the system, he thinks.
| The (system) system (system) in the title Real World (system) stands for the exactly what Real World is.
That is to say, this is a categorising system which will define, in a relative fashion, everything appropriate.
Relative as in, relatable to you. Any and all information shared with you through Real World will also be altered to suit you personally.
A full breakdown of this can be found in your local Adventure Guild, but as a current example to sate your detected levels of moderate confusion:
Your stats will be laid out as such; one point in a stat represents the average human in said stat. This is to say that one point in strength means you are as strong as the average human, two means you are twice as strong, three means you are three times as strong and so on. As you now have understand, to a basic degree, what the system (system) is it will no longer be displayed in the Real World title. If you would like to remove all extra beginners hints (these will automatically be removed after 7 Human days) please let your desire be known. |
Why does it say system so often? He can''t help but wonder. These are kind of annoying, and it all seems pretty self explanatory so; remove beginners hints.

"Aliard," a gentle voice calls out.
The author''s tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.Oh right, dismiss or go away or whatever he thinks, and the blue boxes disappear.
"One second," Aliard calls out, turning off the shower and grabbing his towel.
After drying himself he apprehensively checks the mirror. Unblemished smooth skin stares back, no sign of any marks as Lilith claimed there should be. On top of that, his acne scars seem to have disappeared? He raises his eyebrows. Even the faint wrinkles he''d developed from smiling, raising his eyebrows - simply living - seem to have gone too. It was like his face had been ironed, and made paler. This is really strange, he can''t help but think. But then he did just get what looked like game system notifications. Right, I need to look into this properly, he thinks.
"Or maybe I''m dreaming?" he whispers to himself as he drags his fingers along his face, his nails trailing and leaving a faint white mark. Oh yeah, I''d meant to check my nails, he thinks as he frowns. They were long, far too long. From the day he''d begun piano he''d kept his nails uncommonly short; he hated the feeling of his nail sliding on a key or tapping against them if they got too long. Yet his nails looked like they''d been growing for a week or two, maybe longer.
I''ll have to fix that he thinks, looking up. And then he realised his hair was far longer than it should''ve been. He''d been so distracted by his skin that he somehow hadn''t picked it up. The roots looked silvery, and his hair looked like it''d been growing for weeks as well? This was getting really really weird. I guess that really rules out elaborate prank, Aliard thinks. Although that''d really been ruled out the moment he started getting game notifications. Speaking of which, Vampire Prince? Uh, status page?

"Wait-"
"Aliaaaard," Lilith came sailing through the door right then. "What the fu-" She trails off. It''s clearly Aliard, but he''s so much paler than he was before. Where his ribs could faintly be seen are gone. His very lean muscles are still there, maybe a little bigger, but his skin is so much paler, and most importantly it''s clear. There''re no scars on his back anymore, his acne scars are gone and his face looks like a skin commercial. His hair is so long, so much longer than it should be, and the roots are a silvery grey colour. But most importantly, his eyes are different. There are little tiny splotches of red in them, barely visible but definitely there. But she relaxes after staring at his eyes, because they still scream Aliard. Intelligent roving eyes, always aware, with an ever-present pensive look in their depths.
Most importantly, none of the wounds from yesterday are there. It''s like everything had been spraypainted over.
"How," she says quietly, throwing herself into his arms.
"I really don''t know. I don''t understand what''s going on," he replies.
The shower drips slowly and a gentle hum sits in the air as the fan works. Lilith stirs, and then gasps.
"What did you do in here? Why is there blood everywhere; what the hell Aliard. I said clean yourself not shake yourself clean like a dog," she admonishes him, a half disappointed, half amused look on her face, to which he just shrugs.
"Come on," she sighs and brings him upstairs to be clothed.
As they walk upstairs Aliard explains the notifications and Real World, a feeling of helplessness settling into his stomach. By the time he''s clothed and they''re lying on the bed there''s a familiar dark feeling crawling up on him.
Lilith lies with her back on the bed, mouth half open as she thinks.
"Great, so my boyfriend is a vampire now? Can we still go for walks in the sun? Can we still eat together, are you even human anymore?" She laughs at him.
"This isn''t funny Lilith," Aliard responds. The dark feeling spreads. This simply doesn''t feel like a dream. But then there''s one easy way to test that.
"Aw come on, I''m just kidding," she sits up, pouting cutely, "you always used to say life is basically a game without the status screen, well look! Now it really is," she laughed again.
At which point Aliard got up, walked purposefully to the wall, his arm lifting and drawing back. He throws his fist at the wall, his body twisting and adding power, like a coiled snake striking. His fist flies towards the wall, far faster than he could''ve ever thought possible, and smashes into the wall, burying inches deep, a plume of dust shooting out of the hole.
"Aliard!" Lilith jumps up, concerned. "What the fuck are you doing?" She questions, eyebrows raised.
"Owww, motherfucker that was sore." Aliard pulls his hand out grimacing. The skin on his knuckles is torn and bloodied and sore to move, but don''t feel broken.
"Why? And are you okay?" Lilith questions, peering at his hand.
"Forget my hand for a sec. I just punched a hole into our wall. A wall of compressed, double layered bricks, with concrete filling. Can a normal human do that?" Aliard questions, heatedly.
Lilith pauses, staring at him. "Holy fuck," she says, sitting back on the bed. She scoots back to the headboard, staring at the wall silently.
Aliard looks at his hand. It''s more painful than when he''d broken his hand falling off his skateboard as a kid, but testing the mobility shows it''s clearly not broken, somehow. Abilities

What''s shadows? He wonders with his eyebrows raised. Well everything''s fucked now, might as well. Shadows Aliard thinks, and immediately there''s a flare of power, writhing tendrils of black fade into existence whirling around him.
A writhing face appears in front of him, formed by the shadowy dust filling the air.
"Aliard my dear, you''re weak and we''ve not got long. You can call me Noname. The real Noname," the face laughs wildly.
Oh dear, I''ve fucked up, Aliard thinks.
"Aliard, my dear. Turn her. Take the Shadows and turn her. You won''t be able to stay together if you don''t, you know this. Do as I say, and quickly," the face continues.
"ALIARD WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON", Lilith jumps off the bed, away from Aliard and the mass of shadows around him.
Fuck it, Aliard thinks, things can''t get any worse if I listen to the clearly insane floating fucking head.
"Gather the Shadows to you, wrap them around you, around your being. You''ll feel it," the face continues, speaking quickly, yet enunciating each word clearly.
Aliard does as it says, he can feel the swirling Shadows all around him. The mass of black responds to his call, and much of it swirls in around him, gathering closer and closer.
"Good good, my dear boy, very good. Now take a deep breath, breathe it in and infuse it into your bite, like a snake injecting venom, and bite her. Turn her Aliard." The face cackles, slowly drifting off, out of form as Aliard takes as much of the shadowy dust as he can, and then turns and leaps on Lilith.
And as he does he can''t help but wonder why he''d agreed to do this. Although he thought it was probably the only way things could work out, a feeling he had deep in his bones, it also didn''t feel right that he''d just listened to that thing. But it was too late now, the Shadows exploded out of his mouth as he bit into Lilith''s neck, a flash of black and then all of it''s gone. Only the two of them stand, Lilith slowly collapsing into his arms, her spring green eyes staring into his red flecked blue eyes.
"What the fuck is going on," she whispers, growing weaker. Blood trailing from the bite on her neck.
Aliard panics and lifts her feet up with his right arm, his left arm holding her back.
"Just relax, it''ll be okay. It''ll all work out, okay. Do you trust me?" Aliard asks, slightly panicked.
"I trust you," she smiles back at him, falling completely limp in his arms, blood dripping down onto the floor.
He places her on the bed, sunlight streaming on the window, catching her face beautifully, glancing off her blonde hair. She looks peaceful, like an angel, Aliard can''t help but think. The blood runs onto the red bed sheets, mixing with the shades of red, almost indiscernible. It almost looks like she''s sleeping. His hands shake, and he swallows hard, pushing the tears and breakdown that threatens to explode.
He runs and gets a towel, cleaning the wet blood off her neck. Pulling it away he inspects the bite, he couldn''t believe what he''d done. And how had he managed to bite so deeply he couldn''t help but wonder; pausing as he took a closer look at her neck, shocked. The bite was gone. But, how?
Gently lifting her head he double checked, but it''s not there.
"What..?" he says quietly, shaking his head he sighs. This is all just too crazy, he thinks. Sitting back against the headboard, a dark feeling of helplessness spreads through him. Everytime he glances down at Lilith''s head lying on his lap it goes a bit, but then looking longer makes it return as his heart jumps with anxiety.
Everything''s fine though, right?
