《The Necromancer》 Prologue: The Awakening (3¡ã person POV) It was a sad day in the town of Blackwood. In the outskirts of the town, in the cemetery, a coffin I carried to a mausoleum as twenty people dressed in black mourn for the boy inside the coffin. However, all the eyes are not gathered in the coffin that is going down to the ancient catacombs. They are gathered in the family. The oldest brother, is completely uninterested playing on a portable videogame. His bright blonde hair full of gel combed backwards, and his chubby body stuffed inside a black suit. His father is also looking disinterested and completely bored as he holds the hand of his daughter. The little girl is the only one that seems to care about the boy in the coffin. Her blue eyes are swollen and red from crying, her pretty face with pale skin is stained with tears. Her long smooth, black hair is tied in a ponytail. Her little left hand is holding her father¡¯s, her right hand holding a bizarre plush bunny over her black dress. The creature is made of various types of cloth, with a small body with short limbs. The head is big and horizontally oval, and it has a big, evil grin with sharp teeth. The right eye is a X sewn and the left eyes is a black button. The people looking at her have a clear sentiment of feeling sorry for the girl, since most of them are family and friends of the deceased 16 years old. And so, they know the situation of the house that he lived in, and how important the little girl was important to him. Far away, on a small hill overlooking the ceremony, a limousine drives off after a few moments stationed there. Inside, a handsome boy with blonde hair cleans the sweat on his forehead. A mix of excitement, fear, power and euphoria filling his chest. As he saw the coffin moments ago, what he had done finally downed on him. And he liked the sensation of power for what he had done. After all, the one in the coffin was his victim¡ (Hours later, deep in the catacombs) Inside a chamber in the deepest parts of the catacombs, sitting peacefully in the middle of the dust. However, there are no footprints on the dust indicating that someone laid this coffin down here. Also, the black coffin with a golden scythe on the lid is unnaturally big, bigger than when it entered these tunnels. And, inside, it, something moves. (Aleksander¡¯s POV) I woke up looking at red cloth. What the fuck happened? The last thing I remember is coming back from school from another shitty day being bullied without being able to fight back when I was cornered in an alley, and Brad, that little cocksucking motherfucker took something out from his pocket. Next, he¡ stabbed me. Yeah, that¡¯s it. I remember now. But how can I be alive? I remember feeling my blood soaking my clothes and my vision getting blurred, my body growing cold slowly as life escaped me. I died, I¡¯m pretty sure of it.You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author. So, where am I right now? I try to move, only to find myself inside some kind of box. I raise my hands, touching the surface of the lid. I can¡¯t see my hands, since I don¡¯t have that much space to move. Um¡ the surface feels a little strange. It feels like my fingers are a little¡ numb, or like there is a cloth between my fingers and the surface. I try to open it. Locked. Or nailed, I don¡¯t know exactly. For some reason, I don¡¯t feel panic in this situation, and considering that I¡¯m someone quite emotional, this is completely abnormal. Also, I can¡¯t see any source of light, but I can see in the dark with perfection. I try the lid again, since I don¡¯t want to die here. This time, it moves a little. It seems that the lids is actually locked, since nails wouldn¡¯t allow it to move even a bit. I wonder if I can break the lock? Probably not, but it¡¯s worth the try. I pushed with all my strength¡ and the lid opens violently with a loud noise as the lock snaps. I look dumbfounded. I didn¡¯t feel any resistance at all. I sit up, holding the edge of my former prison. Something falls on my lap. I look down. On my legs, there is a book with a thick hard leather cover, that is completely black. I extend my hand to grab it when I notice something that freaked me out. My hands are bone! Literally bones! Without muscles or skin, pure white bones! ¡. I would freak out, but for some reason, I feel calm and composed. It¡¯s strange, but I can¡¯t seem to worry about my body¡¯s state right now. After a few moments confused, I decide to leave this aside and get the grip of my situation right now. I will need to put the events in order. Firstly, I¡¯m dead for sure. This is undeniable. Judging by my surroundings, I¡¯m on the catacombs. Not only that, judging by the broken stone coffins and the dust with the decaying walls, I¡¯m on the deepest and oldest parts of the catacombs. Now that I look around, the aren¡¯t any footprints on the dust, indicating that nobody came here to place my coffin. And dude, this coffin is big. And ever weirder, my now skeleton body fit¡¯s perfectly fine on it. I should be around 2,30 meters tall now. Alright, let¡¯s check this book. I take the book on my lad and open it. The pages are completely white, without nothing written on them. I touch the pages with my now bony fingers and get surprised as my fingertips leave behind red lines. The lines get absorbed by the pages, disappearing. And then, an invisible hand started writing on the pages in a beautiful cursive letter. Hello, Master. Oh, it talks. Well, not talks, it writes, but you get the idea. Does it communicate by writing? Let¡¯s try out. I touch the page with my right indicator, and then write: What are you? And it answered: I am a grimoire, bound to you, my Master. Grimoire¡ like in a magic book? Those in fantasy stories? No, priorities. I need to know what happened to me. What happened to me? Two hundred years ago, a necromancer was slain in these catacombs while trying to make the transition to an undead. He was killed, however, the ritual was indeed complete. With his body destroyed and soul erased, the necromancer could not complete the transformation. Because of what happened with my previous Master, the catacombs were permanently closed, and no corpse was buried here ever again. As your body was brought inside with your soul still inside it, and with the magic still active, you were reborn as an undead. What the fuck¡ like a lich or something like that? What type of undead? I ask. The spell used wasn¡¯t a powerful spell, transforming the affected in a lesser type of undead that still has its soul. Because of that, Master will have to eat mortal souls to grow in power. At the moment, Master can be considered as a Skeleton Mage. Skeleton mage huh. And devour mortal souls to evolve? What the fuck? This all seems to be too surreal, however, it¡¯s a fact that is happening. After all, I turned into a skeleton, so believing a magic book doesn¡¯t seem to farfetched. So now, I must figure what I can do with my new body. And I¡¯m also curious about that mage thing. I guess that it¡¯s time to start testing. Chapter 1: Necromancy and Death Magic (Aleksander¡¯s POV) I raised my hand, as instructed by the grimoire, and focused. I can feel the mana filling my bones, going through them making them hum lightly. I then chant the spell with my new deep and creepy voice: (Aleksander): ¡°Raise and serve me, creature of human bone! Raise Skeleton!¡± A dark mist cones out of my hand and enters one of the stone coffins. The coffin is broken, so I can see the skeleton inside, broken due age and half dust. The mist makes the bones grow again and rejuvenates them, turning it back into a full fledge skeleton with white bones. The skeleton comes out of the alcove, standing in front of me. I can feel that I control this guy completely. Excellent. I can also see through his eyes, although I can¡¯t control him for real like I was inside his body. I can give him some orders, but he doesn¡¯t seem to be intelligent. I make some tests, giving him all kinds of command that I can think of. He is quite flexible and capable of making some quick and mostly precise movements. However, he is physically weak. He can¡¯t lift a heavy stone that a normal human would be able to. So, he¡¯s a basic henchman, weak and made to work on groups. Whatever, I¡¯ll just raise a bunch of skeletons. That is the advantage of being an undead, according to the grimoire. For a normal human, raising an undead is taxing, as the said undead is mostly ¡°dark mana¡± that¡¯s toxic to living beings. Because of that, necromancers can¡¯t raise as many undeads as a real undead, that is mostly made of black mana. So, as a skeleton mage, I can rise a fuckload of skeletons. Alright, time for the next spell as I raise my two arms, pointing it to the stone coffins. (Aleksander): ¡°I command the dead, and I order you to raise and serve me! Mass Raise Skeleton!¡± A lot of dark mist comes out of my hand, entering the surroundings coffins, making more than 30 skeletons come out. I feel that my mana is depleted¡ I can¡¯t raise more for the next two hours or so. Different from a normal necromancer, I don¡¯t have to worry about controlling the undead all the time. They recognize me as a leader since I¡¯m a more powerful undead. I order the skeletons to spread around the catacombs. I don¡¯t have to worry about them encountering anyone. After all, nobody comes down here. This place was made without any previous plans, being expanded randomly. Because of that, there are a lot of dead ends, and the catacombs expand really deep underground, going far beyond the limits of the cemetery. I want my skeletons to spread out and to help me to get the ropes around here and help me navigate catacombs. I¡¯ll also leave some of them sitting immobile on the corridors. That way, I can have them taking care of the tunnels and warn me if someone approaches. I sit down on my coffin and just wait as my mana replenishes. There¡¯s more things that I want to try. But for that, I will need a living being to test one. A rat would suffice. There a lot of those around here. As I lay on my comfy coffin, I revise in my empty skull want the grimoire told me about death magic.Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon. As a skeleton mage, Master won¡¯t be able to use elemental magic or holy magic. The only magic that Master ha access to is Death Magic, which includes necromancy. Death Magic is mainly focused in instant death spells and decay. If master manages to ascend to the Lich stage, he will have an ability called Decaying Touch, that causes accelerated decay. Right now, unfortunately, master has only access to basic necromancy and basic Death Magic, such as Blight Bolt. The most powerful spell that Master has at the moment is Necro Disease, that infects a living creature, debilitating it and having a chance to infect other living beings. When an infected human die, they rise as an undead under the control of the Master. The undeads that were risen by the Necro Disease can infect living creatures with a bite. Master can make the disease disappear at will, preventing an unplanned outrbreak. I don¡¯t want to test necro Disease, I want to test another magic, Life Drain. And, at the perfect moment, a rat enters my chamber. Pointing my hand to it, I say: (Aleksander): ¡°Surrender your life! Life Drain!¡± Immediately, all the life energy on the rat is pulled out violently and it falls down, lifeless. It¡¯s lifeforce enters me, being corrupted and transforming into mana for me. It isn¡¯t much, but it¡¯s quite a nice feeling, like drinking something nice or making something that feels good. Alright, next step. I point my hand to the rat again, chanting the next spell: (Aleksander): ¡°Lifeless shell, raise and serve my will! Animate Corpse!¡± This time, black mist didn¡¯t come out of my hand, and the body of the rat just twitched. Soon, it stood up without a sound. Yep. It worked. It¡¯s an undead under my control now. This guy I will use to go to the city. Nobody will notice a rat after all. I order it to explore the catacombs. I first have to find the exit, and then I will send it to the city. I also want to find a bird, it will be of much more use to keep an eye on the town. But for now, I must think about what I will do from now on. After all, although I am an undead, I have conscience, and I need something to do. I think that the first thing is to get stronger and more powerful. Second, is to return to human society in any way possible. I still have a little sister to look after. Oh, Ann. She must have cried a lot after I died. I want to see her soon. Taking the grimoire, I ask it: Is there a spell to make me look like a human? Yes. The spell is called Fake Flesh, and it gives the Master a human form. However, master will need to evolve to a Lich. I see. So, getting stronger is a must. But dude, I can¡¯t believe that I died. And stabbed by an asshole morherfucking cocksucker. I really, really want revenge. I can¡¯t even think about it without starting to feel furious. I¡¯ll only get satisfied after getting my revenge on that guy. But just killing him won¡¯t do. I need to do something worse. Much, much worse. I want to take his life apart. I want to see him suffer and break down slowly. I want to sink him in suffering beyond sanity. But I¡¯m being ahead of myself. I must first stablish myself. I also will need money if I want to go back to human society. Money is everything that you need to survive these days. I¡¯ll need a lot of it, since I want to give a better life to my little sister. After refilling my mana, I raise more skeletons, more 30 of them and order them to wander the catacombs. I want to map the place quickly. I also kill any rat that I come across and raise them as zombies. I take my grimoire and learn some more magic. As the hours go by, and after mapping on the grimoire everything that I see from the skeleton and rats, something that surprises me appears on the catacombs. One of the skeletons finds a broken part of the wall, barred with wooden planks. This broken section is quite far away from the cemetery, deep underground, near the city. Interesting¡ I order the skeleton to break down the rotten planks. He manages to break the planks, and what I see surprises me. A cylindrical room without any roof, made with red bricks, old and broken, falling apart. There¡¯s also metal rusty handles on the wall, forming stairs going upwards for a long way. Is this¡ a passage to the sewers? Chapter 2: Through the Sewers And New Base (Aleksander¡¯s POV) I heard about this, that there was a passage that was made a long time ago by a rich family that lived in the abandoned mansion on the top of the cliff where there is a fall directly to the dark sea beneath. However, it was only a rumor. I never believed actually to be true! After all, as anyone with my level of curiosity, who went to the library searching for the old maps of the sewers to check it. However, I couldn¡¯t find anything, and assumed it was only a rumor. Apparently, it¡¯s not. Great, I can use this to move to the city without going through the surface! I immediately send my rats to the city to gather as much information as I can. Firstly, my house to look at my sister, second, find Brad and find anything that I can use to torture him in the future with. I should get a crow, since they are common around here. Also, since this passage exists, the secret passage to the mansion on the cliff must exist as well. If I manage to find the secret passage, I will have access to the mansion that is completely abandoned. I could move there later after raising enough undeads. After all, I will need a lot for the thing that I have in plan. I will also need money. A lot of money. But priorities first, I need information and a better place to be. These catacombs certainly are useful, but I want a proper house to be, and it will probably be the mansion, as it is abandoned and almost nobody ever goes there. It will be perfect to use as a base. It¡¯s still night, so there¡¯s nobody on the streets right now. I send my rats back to the sewer to find out anything that could be useful for moving around. I also get up from my coffin. After all, I want to stretch my legs a little. While wandering through the catacombs, I start to think on my next steps. I want to get stronger. Wait, how do I even get stronger? While walking, I ask my grimoire: How do I get stronger? Master gets more powerful as he drains life from living beings with Life Drain. When Master turns more powerful, he will be able to use more powerful spells. Alright, I need to kill stuff then¡ should I start with humans? The though of killing humans doesn¡¯t bother me at all, not even when I was a human. After all, you can call me something akin to a sociopath. Well, I don¡¯t know how to classify myself, I don¡¯t lack compassion to other humans, but killing something doesn¡¯t bother me. Of course, I would like avoid killing if possible, but I won¡¯t delay helping my sister over a few human lives. People die every day and new people are born every day as well. The cycle of life continues, either we die or live. The world doesn¡¯t stop spinning, and we go forward in any way we can.The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. So, people that are unlucky enough to cross my way, I will have you guys help me to move forward. Alright, shall I make a visit to the sewers? After a few minutes walking, I arrive at the entrance to the sewers. I really want to find the passage to the mansion. I can make that place my base, and from there work on my revenge. I visited the mansion a few times, but since it¡¯s fucking far, I only did it once. Because of that, the place rarely has any visitors¡ and the ones that visit after I occupy the place are not expected to return alive. I look up to one of the manholes, the light of the day seeping from the holes in the lid. Time to spend a lot of time here. But first, I should raise my numbers, since I need to expand my search range and speed. I kill and raise a few rats on the way back to the catacombs. When I get down there, I raise fifty more skeletons and order them to search the sewers. I also join the search, and finally, three days later, I find the goddamned passage to the mansion! It¡¯s to the east of the sewers, on the oldest part of the system, behind a wall. I also discovered that I¡¯m quite strong, enough to punch a hole I the solid stone. Good to know that I¡¯m not a frail mage. The passage is a long, very, very tunnel in the stone, going up in a spiral. This is it! I immediately call ten of my skeletons to come with me. We climb the spiral for a very long time. Eventually, the stone cave turns into spiral stone chairs, the walls turn into a corridor made of stone bricks with torch slots without any torches. We then arrive at a small stone room, with a trapdoor on the center of the roof with an old leaver on the side. The leaver is quite rusted, covered with spider webs. I approach and try the trapdoor, but the rotten wood reinforced with rusted metal doesn¡¯t budge. It¡¯s extremely heavy, even for me. Alright, let¡¯s try this leaver. It¡¯s quite hard to turn it, but by holding it with both hands, I manage to pull it. A terrible rusted sound takes place, and something heavy moves above us, sliding on the ground. Something that slid off from the top of the trapdoor. I try the trapdoor again, and this time it opens with a loud creak. Nice! I go up to the extremely dusty room with no windows. I look around. Several rotten crates are here and there on the room, with a flight of stairs going up. So this is a basement, huh? I look to my right. A stone statue of an angel is sitting quietly. The marks on the ground and the lack of dust from the previous position shows that the leaver was part of the mechanism to move this statue. Quite a cleaver apparatus indeed, I can see that the arm of the statue can move, most likely opening the passage from this side. The skeletons come in from the entrance. First, I¡¯ll scout this place a bit, make sure that there¡¯s nobody inside so I can move here. I¡¯ll also find a way to clear this place later. I go up the stairs and explore the place. Dirty, full of dust and spiderwebs, with the decaying wallpaper. There¡¯s still furniture around, but as expected of stuff that¡¯s more than a century old, it¡¯s rotten and decaying beyond any use. Thankfully, I¡¯m dead, so I don¡¯t have to worry about this stuff. I order half of the skeletons with me to return to the catacombs and fetch my coffin, while the rest explores the mansion with me. After a long time, I conclude that the mansion is empty from people. With that, I take the master bedroom on the third floor and put my coffin there. This mansion is amazing! it not only has a lot of rooms of which people can sleep in, there¡¯s also a lot of special rooms, such as entrance hall, of which there¡¯s a place where a statue used to be, ball room, several studies, quite a big library, four basements, a ¡°green room¡± where I can plant some stuff, a garden outside, and several other rooms. The master room is also quite awesome, is enormous, with barred windows that show the font garden and the cliff behind the mansion. This mansion is also built in a strange way. First, it¡¯s as tall as a six floored building, but it only has three average-height floors, but each floor has a strange space between. One example is the green room. It has the height of six actual floors, and cut¡¯s the other floors. However, the corridors of the third and second floor are connected through by walkways, making it a strange sight. Obviously, there are secret passages inside the mansion itself, but I never heard of any of it. Well, I can search that for later. For now, I need to get stronger. I guess I¡¯ll pillage some of the corpses on the cemetery, and use their flesh to attract crows, so I can kill them and raise them as zombies to spy for me. Chapter 3: New Arrivals (Aleksander¡¯s POV) I look at my new creation with satisfaction. A zombie crow is perching on my bony fingers as I stand on the dead gardens of my mansion. This is the sixth one that I made today. I look down to the corpse lying on the ground, a bit damaged by the crows that I killed and turned into zombies. I nod to myself and order the corpse with greenish skin to get up. It twitches, the foul stench of rotten flesh not bothering me at all. Since I turned into an undead, I have some kind of affinity with these types of things. The graves, dark places and corpses make me feel at home. This corpse, freshly dug out from the cemetery by my skeletons, was turned by me into a zombie. My first zombie! Imagine that! It was recently dead, so it wasn¡¯t stinking yet, but when I rose it, it immediately started to rot, with the skin turning into a disgusting green. The ironical thing is that this male zombie is dressed in a neat suit. A staggering corpse, ready to court the ladies in the office and eat their brains, haha. I order the zombie to go inside the mansion to hide in the basement. After all, there are still people that come here, so I can¡¯t have him with his stench meandering around. It¡¯s just the start of the night, but I can see everything clearly, even though the sky is completely covered by dark clouds. It seems that it will rain soon. I look at the forest beyond the garden of dead flowers and overgrown weeds and bushes. The forest rests on the dark, the eerie wind creating moans from the cracking of the wood and the rustling of leaves. No animal or insect makes noise this night, turning the place eerily quiet. The perfect mood to terrify someone. I already made some precautions to prevent anyone from running from this place in the case anybody tries to run away from the mansion. One thing that I must admit, skeletons really know how to bury themselves. The crow on my fingers fly off, perching on the roof of the mansion, looking around with sharp eyes. The other five are also perched around, working as security cameras. I walk back to the doors of the mansion. They open by themselves as I use my newfound powers. Although I didn¡¯t get stronger, now that I¡¯m on a different ambiance, I discovered that I can make these little things, make doors open and shut, and even lock themselves. I can also produce cold winds that are quite strong, and cause creaking by forcing the wood in the floor to move. It isn¡¯t that I have powers to haunt a house, it¡¯s actually some simple telekinesis that I managed to grasp with some practice in controlling my dark powers. I also can use magic to make the surroundings get darker just by manifesting my magic power. A normal skeleton mage might not be able to do this, but I¡¯m not a common monster, I have the intelligence of a human after all. As I enter the mansion, my dark senses detect life approaching from behind. I spin on my heels, looking to the trees, where the annoying light of lanterns cross the forest. Four signs of life. It seems that food came to me after all. Time to enjoy myself. (3¡ã person POV) Four adolescents walk through the forest, their lanterns illuminating the dark. The four of them are breathing roughly, sweating profusely as they get out of the forest. The one that¡¯s ahead of the group, a boy, points the lantern forward, spotting the mansion. Smiling, he turns back to his friends. Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon. (boy): ¡°See? I said that I knew the way to the mansion!¡± The group is composed by two boys and two girls, all of them carrying backpacks with bedrolls to spend the night. One of the girls frowns and says: (girl): ¡°Shut up, Boris. I¡¯m fucking tired of walking. I know that we ran away from our homes, but we had to come all the way to this place? It has been almost a two days journey!¡± (Boris): ¡°Shush it Lisa! If w ran away from our hommes there¡¯s no turning back!¡± (girl): ¡°Yeah, Lisa. Just calm down, alright? It sucked to get here, but now we can do our drugs in peace.¡± (Lisa): ¡°Alright, Freya. Yuri, did you bring the stuff?¡± The other boy, Yuri, answered: (Yuri): ¡°Of course. Cocaine, marijuana, heroin, you chose it. I spent almost three thousand pounds in drugs.¡± (Freya): ¡°Steal from that church really gave us some money.¡± As they talked, they approached the decaying mansion, going through the dead garden. As they walk carefully, they also explore a bit while talking among themselves. (Lisa): ¡°Nobody comes to this place anymore, right, Boris? Are you sure about that?¡± (Boris): ¡°Yeah, I¡¯m sure. Most people that come here are just really curious people, and they barely even look around the mansion, since it¡¯s a chore to get here they go back early.¡± Lisa nodded, satisfied. This place would be good to set up camp. They have some supplies and a lot of money that they stole during these last moths to live for quite some time. She scratches her neck nervously, the signs of abstinence from chemicals already showing on her. They don¡¯t notice the crows on the roofs, quietly watching their every movement. After a few minutes wandering around, they gather in front of the main door while talking: (Yuri): ¡°Dude, this place is creepy!¡± (Freya): ¡°Yeah, this place has been abandoned for ages. Whys is it still standing? Shouldn¡¯t the government take it down already?¡± (Boris): ¡°For what I know, some wealthy people lived here, but they passed because of some strange disease. After that, they said the place was haunted.¡± Freya sighed. (Freya): ¡°Knowing how people of this city are superstitious, I bet they didn¡¯t want even to come close to this place.¡± Boris nodded. (Lisa): ¡°So, we go in know or take a look around the place before it gets dark for real? Or we go in and set up camp?¡± They looked at each other for a few seconds before Yuri said: (Yuri): ¡°We should at least see if there is something lying around here on the garden. After that we enter and set up camp.¡± They nodded and started wandering. Freya walks around, her lantern helping her in the dim light. As she walks, she scratches her neck, where a few marks on the unhealthily pale skin show that the scratching is a habit. She looks at the withering plants of the garden. There are several dead flowers, that seem that died recently, even though the mansion is ancient. Certainly, someone came here to plant them, but they eventually died due lack of being tended to. Among the flowers, she recognizes withered belladonna, or deadly nightshade, her mother¡¯s favorite flowers. According to her, where she grew up, a rural area where she lived with her parents, these flowers grew near her home. When she met her father, and kissed for the first time, it was under a cherry tree. However, this only brought Freya bad memories. Her father abandoned her mother when she was young, and her mother turned ill, struggling to sustain a child in a new city. Eventually, she passed away and Freya turned into a trouble child, jumping from adoptive family to adoptive family. Eventually, she met these three, and fell into the drug world. And now, she is running away together with them. She frowns looking at the dead flowers. Her mother, the only person that she ever liked. A cold window goes through her, as if piercing her clothes like daggers made out of ice. She shivers, hugging herself and the dirty leather jacket, a bit oversized for her petite build. Her long blonde and wavy hair waves in the wind, also dirty and with some sticks from the trees sticking out. The light of the day dies down slowly, giving space to the night. The only sound is that of the wind and the noise of the shaking trees. The cold air comes from the tress, and one of the crows above the mansion caws, making her jump lightly. She looks back at the mansion. Suddenly, it seems much scarier than before. She hugs herself, rubbing her arms. (Freya): ¡°I hate this place.¡± She walks back, going back to her friends. Unnoticed by her, a shadow moves in one of the unbarred windows of the higher floors, hiding back inside the mansion. The gather in front of the closed doors, preparing to go inside.
