 The Mission from Frontier King

    Frontier military academy.


    The best military school of the continent of ILND, The Frontier military academy was very close to the Frontier Orb, the capital of the Frontier military nation. The Frontier Nation, ruled by Frontier King, was the northernmost nation of the continent. The city of Frontier Military academy was self-governed. The academic city was divided into 5 parts, the central was directly under frontier military nation, whereas other parts- north, east, south, west was under the best students of the region.


    One part was under the Elementals, another was controlled by the only empire of the continent. The royalties from the different kingdoms were gathered in one part, whereas the other was consist of the students without background. The best students of each part were given the title of king and the next four was called the general. No matter who it was everybody on the continent knew about the academy. The academy was recognized by the other kingdoms and empire of the continent.

    2 pairs of crystal lamps- red, blue, yellow and green were hanging from the walls with a crystal chandelier in the middle of the room. The chandelier was like a bright four-leaf clover with the bright colored petals. Somehow the brightness didn''t give out any heat.


    A roundtable was in the middle of the room, with 5 chairs around it. Three of which was occupied. The boy was named Avian Kirman Urbic, one of the four royal imperial bloodlines in the whole continent. He was also known as the "Imperial King" at the academy.


    "Director, do we really need to wait for those who can''t be on time?" The impatience of Avian was clear from his words.


    The Director of the academy, Jaw Gaider, shook his head with a smile, "Please understand the importance of the mission that is going to be handed over here. No matter how much I want to be punctual, I can''t disclose the topic without the presence of at least 3 kings or queens of the academy." The director stopped and looked in the eye of the boy," And there are still 2 min left till the appointed time,"


    Avian knew this Director perfectly well. He is one of the best known and decorated general of The Frontier Nation. He rose to fame when he defended 3 of the 13 frontier forts alone for 1 month during a frontier beast breakout. He also fought against imperial soldiers many times, able to push them back every time. More importantly, there is a rumor going around that because of he, the 2nd imperial prince, coming to the frontier military academy to study, the Frontier King practically forced Jaw to accept the position of director at the academy.


    Just as the time of the clock turned from 59 to 00 the door opened again. Another person came in. The person looked handsome with long hairs and a crystal left eye. He smiled and said "I think I am right on time"


    "Yes." Jaw looked at the door for a moment and continued with a smile, "now then let''s continue on the topic, it''s about the recruitment for this year"


    "That much we all can get, so..." The girl urged to continue, "it''s nothing new, it has happened every second year"


    "But this year must be special." The last boy who came in added." Otherwise, the mission would have been posted on the hall of prestige."


    "You are absolutely right. This year we are getting three royal-bloods in our academy across the continent. The Frontier King has quested this new mission to all the kings of the academy. Each one has to send at least one of their generals to supervise this year''s recruitment without polarising the recruitment process." As Jaw finished his words he beamed towards King Bot, the last boy.


    King Bot hailed from the Democracy of machines which tended to reach towards the greater probability of survival, and for that step, they could be very calculative. Although they didn''t forsake their humanity, still they were willing to send 800 to death just to save 1000. That was not all, even those 800 would be willing to give up on their lives for greater good. Because of this single will that was incorporated in every single machine, they were able to produce the only democratic country of the continent. And that King Bot, Uler Hause, is one of the top young cyborgs of the county, was no exception.


    On the other hand, Avian was beyond surprised. The spy network of the empire was very well spread throughout the continent and it was not easy for them to miss even the flap of a butterfly, but how did they miss such a big news, was unknown. Even the queen''s expression showed that the news was of great importance.


    "But shouldn''t it be a king level mission rather than a general grade one???" The Queen asked.


    The director smiled and said "Remember, it''s not me who has issued it, it''s the Frontier King who did it"


    Just as the queen was about to say something, the door opened again to everyone''s surprise. There was a tanned looking person of over 6 feet height who came in and gave a deep bow. "I am Xing Heartland. I am the general of..."


    "We know who you are." Avian was clearly irritated. "But this is the chamber of the Kings and not a general can enter." his voice was full of disdain when he talked about the king.


    "My apologies your majesty but I am here to deliver a letter to the honorable director under the order of my king" Xing flashed standard issue sleeping king seal. Everyone in the room knew perfectly well that it was nearly impossible to forge the seal as every king seal was forged from a unique frontier beast. So nobody questioned the authenticity of the seal. Xing then handed the letter to the director and added, "my king also added that my king will supervise this year''s recruitment, and the payment will be taken from someone else."


    Hearing the words the ice queen flinched for a moment but relaxed as Xing left.


    Avian was a lot more agitated now. Not just the imperial''s spies were unable to get any hint about the 3rd royal blood, but that useless sleeping King was able to get a detail about the 3rd, and might even get a chance to curry the favor from that eccentric Ice Queen. He suddenly stood up from the chair and left the room while saying, "if there is nothing else, I will leave."


    Hearing this King Bot smirked as the Ice queen added "me too"

    By now Jaw had already left his chair as he said "please enjoy your time alone" and turned to left, but continued "You know very well that how much importance your person holds for your country, so let''s hope nothing like the events that your predecessor did, will happen again"


    A beautiful smile still was plastered on the face of Uler. Without the slightest change in his expression, he asked: "Are you threatening¡­ maybe?"


    The sentence was cut short with the words from Jaw "These are the words from my king himself."


    Chapter 2


    The room was a lot brighter from the chamber of the Kings. Though brighter, it was a lot colder here. The Ice Queen was in deep thought. She couldn''t find the head or tail of this matter. Only her father and she knew about this matter.


    ''Can it be Oracles?''


    ''No. They weren''t lazy enough to stir little war between the countries. The Ancient could do this. But there wasn''t any record of movement from them. Then who can this be?''


    "My queen." The word from the person behind her took her back to the real world. Even a very keen observer could fail to notice the person in black who was standing just behind the queen from the beginning. It''s like he was just the shadow.


    "We have a guest." The person in black said.


    Only after she heard the words, she felt unusualness of the room. The queen straightened her back and spoke: "Come out".


    The command thundered through the room. Even the most strong-hearted may shudder by hearing her command. It wasn''t the pressure of a royal blood rather the aura of extreme bloodlust.


    But interestingly the girl came through the door with a big smile on her face. Yes, she came through the door literally.


    "How long have you been there?"The ice queen asked without losing her bloodlust.


    "Please her majesty this little being bears the word from her King" the girl tried her best to pursue the queen.


    If it was any other day the queen might have had forgiven her, but today was not one of those days. "Answer the question you have been asked" it was the words from the person in black.


    "Just from the moment, the general detected me." the girl didn''t waste any more time.


    Ice queen was so irritated that she might not have forgiven her but the whisper from her behind changed her mind. She removed her bloodlust.


    But contradictory to her expectation, the Girl in front of her gave her a full bow and said: "I, Kiraia Edan, general of the sleeping King, asking for forgiveness for all the insolence this little being has caused. You may punish this little one."


    The change of the attitude greatly surprised the queen. She had heard about the peculiarities of the generals under the sleeping King but didn''t expect to this extreme.


    The status of the general was given to those, by the academy, who had the ability to achieve it in the future. But at the end of the day, they could never be compared with the real generals. They were just the children who had above average strength. So the arrogance and the ego of them was a lot higher than the battle-hardened generals. They just didn''t know their limits.


    Whereas the ice queen, being the real princess of Aqua Marine, was surrounded by some well-known generals from the childhood. She knew perfectly well about the difference between an amateur and a pro. Other than the person standing behind her back, she had never seen anyone who could guess the essence of the situation so easily. And if she remembered correctly the girl should be the last general of the Sleeping King.


    "Rise. State your motive" Ice Queen commanded.


    "My king sends me with his words " If you, the ice queen, are ready to hand over the Void Eater you don''t even need to worry about your little royal friend over there"


    If it could be said that the ice queen was irritated a little moment ago then now she was just furious." Who that sleeping piece of sloth thinks he is? Asking for a legendary weapon just for this? Perhaps he thinks that we aren''t powerful enough to save our people. "


    "Sorry your majesty, my king also thought that your people are more than capable of doing that, but you can''t do that"


    That hit the sore spot. Queen lost all the power of her body. She just couldn''t say anything, but it couldn''t be observed from her body language.

    Now the queen was surprised beyond her words. She couldn''t control her train of thoughts. But she still asked with a shaky voice "How did he find out?"


    For the first time, the face of Kiria turned completely cold. She uttered a single word "HUNTER".


    Hunters were the most dangerous species on the planet. They were very few in numbers, maybe around 10-20 thousand, and they hunted for other species, whether its humans, elementals, machines, frontier beasts, sentient beasts anything but not for fun or food. It''s just that they evolved in such a way that they could harness the power of other species in their body. So they hunt other for their power. Even the most powerful became wary while facing hunters. They were a nemesis to all.


    If one was marked by a hunter it was hard to survive unless they killed the hunter and that was an impossible thing to do.


    "Hunter? How can it be a hunter? Are you bluffing?" the Queen just couldn''t believe it.


    "Sorry your majesty, but I don''t think our King is that kind of a person," Kiria said seriously "Sorry for being the bearer of the bad news. I will take your leave now." Kiria said and turned to leave.


    The Queen didn''t think for a moment and said: "There shouldn''t be a single scratch on her." As much as she knew her father she was sure that she could just convince her father to give up the Void Eater. It was just as she said, it''s cursed. No elemental could ever wield it. Why not give it up to protect what is important.

 The path to the past

    The City of Alentia, outskirt of Chaos Beast Forest.


    The Black Tiger mercenary. One of the six A grade mercenary group of the city. The current mission was like a golden egg. But nothing is free in the life of the mercenary.


    "Are you sure captain?" Kiria couldn''t hide the joy.


    Cikaya was cautious as always " Captain, are you sure that there is no catch?"


    "If I would have been sure about that I would have accepted the mission a long time ago." The captain became agitated from the constant bickering of his team-mates. He then turned toward Grim and asked, "Did you get any news about them? Are they clean?"


    "The girl has been brought up in the city, though there are rumours about her mother''s disappearance. That is not a big deal at all."


    "What type of rumour?" Cikaya asked.


    "She just vanished one day and even the father of the girl didn''t say a word. It''s nothing new that a beautiful woman has vanished" Grim said nonchalantly.


    Hearing the words, the captain thought for a moment. It was nothing new, human-beast trafficking, slavery was the common day thing in this type of forest-edge cities. There was nothing that didn''t happen in this type of cities. But the captain felt that something was not right.


    "That won''t be of any problem, right?" Kiria asked sheepishly.


    "I also have run a check on the event. It was Hi-catcher" Grim slowly added.


    These words took the load off the captain. The Hi-Catcher was one of the biggest trafficking groups in the city. They were spread through multiple kingdoms. They sold humans to chaos beasts and beasts to humans. Although everybody knew about that, very few could touch them.


    "Then??" Kiria asked.

    City of Alentia, south gate


    "Only 7?" the captain was a little disheartened. He expected that he would see all of his former teammates. But to his surprise, two of his old members were absent whereas the newest member was present. The 10 men mercenary team became an 8 men team.


    "Both of them are family guys. They have too much to risk" Grim said to the captain.


    "Captain where is the beauty?" Kiria asked with a silly smile on his face. Other''s eyes shined with the question. They were all men. The moral characters were of utmost importance for the captain while selecting the teammates. Although he didn''t question his own judgement he still warned each and every one of them. "Behave yourself, we need to protect her with our best to earn."


    "Don''t worry captain, brother Kiria would be so shy that he would not be able to speak to her." The new guy said mockingly. Hearing the words all laughed happily.


    "Excuse me..." It was a call from behind.


    At the word, Grim was the first one to react. " Lady Mayumi??" the captain responded with a question.


    The woman nodded. Rather than saying a woman it was better to say that she was still just a girl of 14 or 15. She was holding a girl of the age of 7-8. " This is Kisa. I am too fond of her to leave her alone." The little girl Kisa was looking at them with her big eyes. Silver bear''s pelt armour, void turtle''s shield, dragon tooth sword, black fang necklace all the things these mercenaries were wearing was new to her, so they became the objects of curiosity.


    On the other hand, the mercenaries were stunned. There was no carriage, no horse, how these girls were going to travel with them? It was gonna be impossible for them to cover the distance of over 2000 kilometre.


    An average man could walk up to 150 km per day, but even if they were to walk same distance day over a day without prior training it would be falling down to 115 to 120 km. And they couldn''t even want to think about these girls'' speed.


    They thought that they might be able to come back to the city within 1 month. Now they would be lucky if they were able to reach Arianith within one month.


    Kiria was the first to ask " Captain what is this?" with the question all of them looked towards the captain and Grim.


    Captain smiled wryly and said" I know what you guys are thinking. but the client has assured us that these girls are stronger than the average persons"


    "But wouldn''t it be better to have a carriage?" the guy with the longbow asked" Captain if you want then I think I can get 2 good horses and a carriage from my brother. We can pay after coming back"


    "It is not that captain didn''t want to spend money on the carriage, it''s just that the client didn''t want us to attract unwanted attention with the carriage" Grim said slowly


    "What does this Client want? To test us? or he doesn''t have any worry about her safety? Are you sure he is not from the mercenary association?" one of them was curious.


    "What type of enemies they have, who will be willing to attack us just because of the carriage?" the new one complained.


    Grim smiled and said, " If I happened to be a bandit and saw 8 heavy armoured mercenaries protecting a carriage, I would definitely attack that". All the other laughed while the new one scratched his head.


    " Jokes apart, I understand that he doesn''t want us to attract any attention. These lengthy missions might also be the reason why he was willing to pay us so much money. But what I am worried about is that little girl, firstly even if Lady Mayumi is able to keep up with us there is no way that the little girl will be able to do the same. But the main question is who is she??" Cikaya asked seriously.


    " I am Kisa." nobody noticed that the little girl was just beside them when they huddled together.


    "Lady Mayumi, sorry to ask, but does this child''s parents know that she is with you??" the captain asked in slowly.

Captain put his hand on Kiria''s shoulder to calm him and Said with a smile "there is no need to fight over spilt milk."

    The way of the past. 4th day of the journey


    "Captain it is already 4th day. We are only around 250 km away from the city of Alentia. At this rate, it will take more than a month to reach the city of Arianith." Grim said.


    "That won''t be a problem. The client had said that it will be ok if we are able to reach Arinith within one and half month." The captain said with a smile and looked towards the other " Just enjoy the ambience Grim and don''t worry. It''s been a long time that I have seen everybody laughed so much"


    "But you know me, Captain, I don''t like to enjoy on a mission. And.." Grim suddenly stopped, the captain looked towards Grim as Grim continued " Something doesn''t feel right."


    "If you are feeling then everything will be ok." the captain said with a smile.


    "No captain, this time the feeling is different" Grim was sure about it. Captain put his hand on the shoulder around Grim and dragged him towards other¡­..


    " Do you know what is this brother Kiria?" Kisa asked while pointing while pointing at the slab of some unknown material on the ground.


    The place was full of trees with slim and high bodies, and the leaves were not that dense at the top. The forest floor was decorated with the mosaic of light and shadow. A light breeze was blowing.


    Everyone was enjoying their well-deserved break on the lightly moist grass floor, all except Kisa. As she was riding on the back of different mercenaries through the journey she was the one with most energy. Of all the mercenaries Kiria is the one closest to Kisa. She rarely left his side if she was not with Mayumi.


    "That is the path of destiny" Kiria was always proud of his knowledge of the outside world. So he boosted.


    But surprising him, Kisa gave a hysterical laugh.


    " What you don''t believe me ?" Kiria was rather embarrassed." look here each of step is called destiny steps, our ancestor use this steps to discover others all around the continent that later changed our destiny" looking around Kiria came close to Kisa and said in low voice " I even heard that that is called Road of Budhha. Young monks have to walk on these steps day after day, without food or water, without looking back, in rain, in storm whatever come you have to continue until you find your answer."


    Kisa was listening holding her breath and curiously asked: "and then??"


    "Then you become Buddha, you will become so powerful that not even the great demon can''t beat you."


    Kisa thought for a moment then ran towards Mayumi and dragged her to the steps." Sister you lied to me, this is not the path the Great Iron Slither, it''s the path of destiny, the path of Budhha. Brother Kiria told me everything"


    Mayumi looked towards Kiria with hesitation then slowly said to Kisa " I told you to not to tell anybody"


    Hearing this Kiria gave a hearty laugh "Probably your sister want you to be afraid that why she said the story about the IRON SLITHER" he ended with another laugh. This laughter also attracted all the other mercenaries.


    Seeing all the mercenaries coming towards her Mayumi was angry. It was not that she intentionally lied to Kisa, it''s the truth. She learnt from her father when she was a child. To prove her innocence she argued with Kiria "Don''t believe him, what I have told you is the truth. I have learnt this from my father. I also read it in the book."


    "In which book the story been written?" Kiria asked.


    "It was my mother''s books and my father gave it to me. My father reminded me that this book was from the ancient. He also said that not many people in the world know about the story"


    Hearing this words Grim and captain looked at each other in surprise. While Kiria didn''t know about the expression on the face of captain laughed loudly. "Did any of you heard about this story? I have never heard of this type of stories. Tell me what type of other stories did you read in that book?"


    Mayumi, who was now angry to the extreme, said" This is the path of iron slither, they tend to go from one place to another caring people and luggage in their bellies. There were big fat birds who carried people through the sky from one place to another in their bellies, big fish who carry people in the depth of Blue Sea. Iron slithers were very dumb. So these tracks were used to guide them to their destination."


    Hearing this the mercenaries couldn''t stop the laugh. But the captain and Grim were different, they knew perfectly well who are these ancients were. They couldn''t even imagine what type of background this girl hold to read this type of storybook at such a young age. It was clear to them why the client was intended to pay such a money for an escort mission.


    "Break is over," The captain said with a serious face" Get ready guys, we may need to use our arms soon enough, be on high alert until we reach Arianith"


    Though other didn''t understand why the captain suddenly became so serious nonetheless they compiled

 The Elements

    It wasn''t the first time Ciyaka left the city neither it was the first time he saw the path of destiny. He had seen it many times before. When he first saw it he was curious, but it was soon forgotten until he heard the story.


    "Be serious, we are not on a field trip. We are in the danger zone." Captain scolded him as soon he asked.


    Hearing the stern remark from the captain he is slowly edged closer to Mayumi and Kisa. Cikaya was one of the attackers of the group whereas Kiria was one of the 3 long range attackers. The new guy was only elemental of the team who was in the rear protection unit. 2 were in the middle and two were in the front including the captain. Grim was the only scout of the team and also good in close combat.


    Just as Cikaya was about to ask something again, Grim came back in hurry. The captain quickly hand-signal other to be ready for battle.


    "Quickly move out the way, it is wild black Hog horde."


    With Grim''s warning in time, everybody moved quickly. The captain grabbed Mayumi and Kiriya got hold of Kisa as they quickly climbed the tree. Though the trees were bare it wasn''t hard for them to climb with their enhanced strength and stamina.


    It wasn''t long before the black hogs reached their position. The horde contained more than 500 hogs. their height is more than 1.5 meter. Even some of them reaching almost 2 meters. The end of the horde content a hog over 3-meter height, who was probably their leader.


    "What a big animal. I have never seen something like this before." Kisa exclaimed as they were on their way down. Before Mayumi could say anything Grim jumped towards her and push her from the way. Even before she could recover from the shock the captain took her behind his shield. Looking at the serious face of the captain she understood something was not right.


    By the time she looked around Kisa was already taken behind the tree by Kiriya. But what surprised her was the tree in front of which she was just standing was now covered in ice with an arrow stuck at the center.


    With the signal from the captain, Kiria shoot multiple arrows which were followed by some scream. The sound of the clashing sword was coming closer. Some unknown people were fighting with a red bear. With the signal, the captain left Mayumi at the back of the tree and left towards it.


    What caught her attention first was the shoulder of Grim. It was covered in ice. She couldn''t help but shivered while thinking about the consequences if that arrow had stuck to her. It was her first time seeing something violent.


    Amazingly the red bear''s coordination with Cikaya and the captain was very good. As soon as the captain deflect the weapon of the enemy with black turtle shield Cikaya came from the side and attack the enemy. Even before the enemy could react perfectly to his attack he would have been slammed by the red bear from the blind side.


    There were not many enemies. It didn''t take a lot of time to clear them out. Seeing, Mayumi sighed in relief. Even before she could react a flying dagger was flying straight towards her.


    She wasn''t like these battle-hardened mercenaries. She could just close her eyes to accept her fate. But to her surprise, she felt nothing. When she opened her eyes she could see that Grim already caught the dagger which was just an inch away from her nose.


    The person who had thrown the dagger was running for his life. Unfortunately even before he could turn around an arrow passed through his left eye. With a blood-curdling scream, he falls down and died. The last look of the dying man Mayumi made her nauseous as she vomited. She could not forget the face of the person with an arrow sticking out of his eye-socket, the blood running down his face made the scene more gruesome. She couldn''t control her emotion. Her feet started to turn cold as she started to cry like crazy.


    Unknown to her before the other mercenaries could tend to her, or even look for any other enemy they also felt that something was wrong. It started to turn hotter around them. No matter how much they looked they couldn''t find the source of the trouble.


    Unknowingly they also began to feel nauseous. Kisa was the one to fall down first, all the mercenaries begin to follow the suit. Even the strongest of them all, the captain began to lose his consciousness. He looked around for his fallen teammates but the fog began to eat away his field of vision. Not long after he also falls unconscious.

    Mayumi didn''t know how she came here, but the place where she was standing is surrounded by fog. She looked around her but couldn''t find anybody. There was none protecting her.


    She tried to look back hoping to find Captain or Grim, but to her surprise, she couldn''t move her body.


    Suddenly the fog in front of her began to swirl, something was coming towards her.


    Its steps were resonating with her heartbeat. Soon she could see a pair of the blue blazing spot in the fog, like a pair of eyes.


    No matter how much she struggled, how much she quivered she couldn''t free herself from the invisible constraints that were binding her at the spot. Her heart was beating faster, the monster was becoming faster too. Within a few moments, she could vaguely make out the outline. It was huge.


    With a roar, it came out of the fog. It was like thunder, Mayumi closed her eyes in fear.


    She couldn''t help to think she is going to die again on the same day. Grim saved her once but there was no one here nor could she run. Even if she could move she doesn''t think that she could outrun the monster.


    In the face of death, she couldn''t help herself not to smile. She was ready, ready to embrace the death with a smile.


    But what hit her was a beautiful voice. It is so sweet that she could hear it all day.

    "Who-Who are YOU?" Mayumi asked while stammering.


    "Child, shouldn''t you be worried about your life rather than asking our identity?" The Blue old man thundered.


    Suddenly she felt the weight of the situation.


    "Don''t worry child we are not here to harm you." With the beautiful voice, Mayumi felt that all her worries went away.


    She wants to know about the woman but didn''t ask, as she was afraid of angering the Old Man.


    "Child, I am Agun, and this is Jaal" the husky voice answered.


    Hearing this Mayumi looked up and she was greeted by a kind smile of the blue old man. The woman was also smiling.

    As he felt it was enough to wake Grim up, the captain moved from his chest and sat on the ground panting. He really was at his limit.


    It''s the effect of his armor and his shield. As a shield bearer, both of this items is his life. Both of the items were his life. So he upgraded them first. Both of them are living armor. They were enchanted by a living beast heart.

    "Aaghhh." the captain couldn''t help but screamed as blood-eyed Grim tried to twist the dagger. His armor stopped it from twisting. But even the little movement inside the body hurts like hell.     The captain understood what was happening and shouted: "Cikaya, don''t hesitate, look at his eyes, it''s not normal."


    For a moment when he heard the captain, he was happy, but the whole line shocked him. "Captain he is.."


    "I am perfectly aware who he is, just give him 2-3 deep wound, I will handle the rest."


    "But" Cikaya was hesitant.

    Cikaya put his sword on the neck of the new guy and shouted "What the hell had you done to him? Reverse it now or I will kill you on the spot." There was not a single bit of hesitation in voice.


    He fought with his friend, almost killed him, and lost one of his brothers. Though it put a lot of burden on him.


    "Believe me Cikaya, I really didn''t do anything," The new guy said truthfully.


    "Believe me I won''t hesitate for a moment before killing if you don''t save the captain" Cikaya was resolute.


    "Really I didn''t do anything. You have to believe me Cikaya. Look into my eyes, Cikaya. You will see whether or not I am telling the truth. Come on look at me"


    Cikaya looked at him and the sword fell down from his hand. If someone could gaze into Cikaya''s eyes they would have seen beautiful ruby.

    His speed and agility increased by a lot, though it''s not as fast as Grim, it''s still comparable to him. He might not be so helpless in fighting ruby-eyed Grim now, even without his heightened state.
