《Two Brothers》 Prologue "Roughly six thousand years ago the best scientists of the Ekimura Empire where working laboriously to create the first working Large Scale Azure Drive, an new and revolutionary technology used mainly in space ships to travel long distances in matter of seconds, this disproportionally large Azure Drive would allow to transport large quantities of matter by creating a tear in space and time while being extremely energy efficient. It was an desperate attempt to save their home planet from certain destruction since the old star that it was orbiting was a ticking bomb that had a few years before it became a super nova. Three years prior to the estimated time of the detonation of the star and after checking their data un-countable times by using super AIs powered by the most potent computers in the galaxy they concluded that the Drive was ready. The Transport of the planet to a safe orbit of a young star near the center of the Galaxy was a total success, it guaranteed that their home world would stay safe for another couple of trillions of years. At the beginning it did not had a name, some civilizations call it "THE CATACLYSM" others "THE CONJUNCTION" what the Ekimura Empire called it was "The Great Shame" After they collected the data and ran the numbers they concluded that the number of tears created because of the teleportation of their home planet was not less than 212?. the damage done was mostly attenuated because of the vastness of time and space. but it is certain that even to this day at some point in time and space new tears will form, ether in empty space, the surface or core of a planet or star. The Ekimura Empire took all the responsibility and their leaders accepted the capital punishment for it was their greediness and their choices to save their home world that led to this problem in the first place. Even to this day if someone is proven to have been a victim of "The Great Shame" they will be compensated substantially." - The Antiquary By Scholar #237 Empire Year 23924 01: Singularity (REWRITE) " The Orc and it''s variants are a fierce adversary, some cultures think they are not more than mere beast that walk on two legs, this is far from the truth. they posses intelligence far beyond what they are accredited for, the have ability to build settlements and create tools, their ambush tactics have costed the lives of thousands though history, and their warriors face fear with courage and pure brutality, it is a common saying "never face an orc in his own territory, for one you see there are ten more hiding" but for me the most accurate saying about them is "Never corner an Orc, because when faced with certain death they will rip and tear their way out or die trying" - Arguls The Great speech to new recruits during basic training. Transcribed. Year 187 of the New Age The pebbles that covered the dirt road that lead to the homestead where being launched by the tires and bounced off the bottom of the truck creating an arithmic and echoing sound inside the cabin. Two man where siting while looking at the dark road, pitch black on the sides only illuminated a few feet in front by the headlights, the smoke of a cigarette raised in a line slowly before dissipating by the air current created by an open window in the back seat. Both men knew it was a long drive, but none of them spoke since they had nothing to say, if you did not knew them well you could interpret their faces as if they where angry but that was just their normal face. After a sharp turn the headlights illuminated the outline of what seemed a two story farm, the truck pulled over inside the garage and both men started to unload the trunk from their construction tools "Did Manuel told you how many days off do we have?" A man with a long beard that had wood shavings suck in it spoke, his voce was deep and it fit his character making him look even meaner than before. "The rest of the week, the house we are suppose to do next is still being treated for termites. it will take another few days" the younger man said after putting a table saw on the work bench that was situated against the wall of the garage. They both kept working without saying a word yet their movement where coordinated and they did not need to speak to make each other understand when and when they did not need help, it was almost a dance. "we will have to make a grocery run tomorrow early, only thing we have left is instant noodles and some beef jerky" said the man with the beard after finishing with the trunk of the truck. the younger man whistled and from the darkness a panting dog entered trough the garage door that was closing. It was a big black Doberman, his fur blended well with the darkness that surrounded the house, after being petted in the head by the man the three of them opened the side entrance and walked inside the house. The door behind them closed depriving them of the light from the garage, everything seemed normal for a second but the three had a bad feeling creeping up their spine. the dog started to growl lightly. "turn on the lights Jack" said the younger man while reaching for his pocket folding knife "the light switch is not there" said the man with the beard while taking out his phone and turning on the flash light only to let it drop from the surprise, he picked it up swiftly and illuminated their surroundings. They where not in the middle of the hallway that connected the garage to the living room, instead they where standing on grass. a slow breeze hit them and they started to hear crickets singing around them. they looked up and saw a sky, full of stars, with not a single constellation they could identify.

Both men where perplexed and blinked repeated times trying to understand how it was possible what was in front of their eyes. a blue screen not bigger than a cellphone was floating in front of them before slowly fading away. "Did you see it?" said Jack but did not got an answer "BRANDON! did you see it ?!" Almost screaming jack illuminated his brother with his makeshift flash light to get his attention "Y... Yes... [welcome travelers]?" said Brandon with a face expression that denoted confusion.

"Yo we goota get the fuck out of here" before Brandon could be true to his word he froze in place, his body not responding to his commands paralyzed, luckily he was in a steady position or he could have fallen on top of the picket knife he was holding in his hand.
Not yet restless one... bare with me for a second will you?
"i cant move man, what is going on?" said Jack while pushing himself with all his strength, a few veins started to pop on his neck and forehead while his face was starting to turn red.

they both got released from their paralisis imediatly as the screen poped up, all the comands their body was not able to fullfill untill now seemed to take over their bodys in a split second and they both fell to the ground, Jack did a small jump and then bent over landing on his tailbone while Brandon tripped over his feet and went face down almost impaling himself with his own blade, missing only by a few inches. while the older brother was groaning in pain while massaging his lower back the younger one was spitting grass and dirt that got in to his mouth, the dog ran back and forth barking and jumping like if a crab had taken hold of his fur and was squeezing him tightly.

"What?" Jack grunted as he got up from the ground still pained by the way he fell, this whole situation was madness but it was happening without a doubt, as surreal as i may seem, jack reached his phone which was now laying on the floor, he must have dropped it while falling down. after pointing the phone''s flashlight around them he realized it was doing more harm than good, he turned it off and let his eyes get accustomed to the darkness. after 30 seconds he started to be able to see outlines and figure out their surroundings which was not much, they were standing in what seemed short to middle length grass, some sprouts were growing here and there very dispersed. and around the clearing they appeared there was woods. countless trees, some tall, others short, some evergreen some deciduous, some he could not even discern. a loud roar followed by a screech, the first one did not resembled anything he ever heard before, but the second one sounded like a mountain lion. then a thud of a tree falling down all three of the newcomers turned immediately facing the direction of the sounds. "we go the opposite way, walk fast and don''t make noise" said Jack with a low voice while backing away from the wooded area where now sounds of two or more beasts were having a bloody fight to the death. Brandon did not dared voice an acknowledgment, he just did it, somehow his instincts were screaming to be quiet and walk away, it was not a fight they could take on right now, nor they wanted to. shortly after they reached the edge of the forest the fighting sounds stopped and the same loud roar could be heard once again, this time it was a roar of victory, or so it seemed. they kept walking as silent as possible through the woods, the only sound they could make beside bird calls and the sounds of insects was the dog that was tailing them and panting slightly. for close to two hours they walked without any noticeable event, the adrenaline had weared off and with the slight chilling breeze of the forest they were starting to get cold, a light shiver took over their bodies, glad they had their working jackets on they kept on pressing until they reached the face of a cliff. It was around 30 feet tall and extended to both sides beyond where they could see, after scouting in a direction they found a crack in the cliff and decided to make camp for the night. A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. "I will gather some fire wood, make some kindling" said Jack "Bosco stay" he ordered the dog and he complied by using their lighter it only took a few seconds to start the fire since most of the branches collected were dry, Jack debated if to keep it low and try to ride the night out without being noticed or if make a big fire and detour the wild animals of approaching. they opted for the former and dug a small pit with some sticks so the flames don''t rise up to much. it was a dense forest, but who knew what could see them and from what distance. "ill be on watch for a few hours I''ll wake you up when its your turn" said jack while sitting with the fire behind him so it wont mess up his night vision. Brandon tried to sleep but the stone floor only covered by a thin layer of moss did not help, he closed his eyes and tried, but somehow he felt like it would be impossible to sleep this night with all that happened today. He almost jumped when his brother shook him lightly to wake him up, it took him a couple of seconds to realize where he was and that for the time being it seemed like there was no danger, he exhaled loudly while rubbing his sleepy eyes. "its almost dawn, take over watch" the two brothers exchanged places and jack fell asleep almost immediately, he could hear his brother breathing heavily behind him, Bosco was laying next to him with his eyes closed. Brandon squatted down and had his switch blade in his hand even though he doubted it would do much good against the beast that roared before that night. he tried to process the events that preceded that night and could not come up with a logical explanation to what happened. it was by far the weirdest and most disturbing event of his life, and he had dated crazy, like Melissa who burned all his clothes and ended almost burning down his dorm room when he was back in college after he caught her cheating, or when she tried to stab him because he refused to get back together with her after that, he heard the "never date redheads" advice from many before, and he really tried, god knows he tried, but he was a weak man. the sun peaked from above the canopy and hit him in the face bringing him back from his mind wonder about lost love and attempts of murder. the fire has died down and it was now cinder and red coals, he stood up and stretched his legs witch were now sore from all the squatting, bird calls could be heard in the distance, a virgin forest stood in front of him, ready to be conquered and claimed, he shook his head, leaving those insane thoughts behind. what waited for him in this forest was pain and a gruesome death, nothing more. After waking up Jack mumbled something about "Fuck me" and "ghetto ass teleportation" he made extra emphasis about the "faggy blue boxes" all the complains were reasonable taking in to account their current situation. "so what is the plan?" asked Brandon while sitting on a rock that now worked as an improvised bench. "the plan is to survive" his dark beard made the black bags under his eyes look even more pronounced. he tossed a few dry branches in the coals and waited for them to ignite so he could warm himself up "i swear to god and even the devil himself that we will survive this" his tired look did not diminish the determination that his eyes denoted. Brandon seen this kind of eyes before, when his brother decided to join the marines after 9/11, when he went on a "vacation" for a week after some drunk and high rich kid ran over their mother only to "disappear" after being released on bail. this were his fighting eyes, they still had a chance. 03: Welcome to The Stone Age "We abandoned the Damned Land and crossed The Vast Ocean once, our land was sick and it could not produce any more crops, swarmed by beasts we where decimated. We rode our ships and after months of hardships we arrived at the promised land, full of life and resources, we created settlements which turned out to be kingdoms, we prospered, but in the decades to follow we faced war with the natives. Elves, Orcs, Giants, Mermaids and countless other beasts. we can only hope and pray for peace. A peace that might never come since we are the invaders." -History of the New AgeBy Archmage Rebren year 136 of The New Age Brandon looked around and scanned the forest in detail for the first time. Some trees had purple or blue leaves, others where the normal green, leave shapes and sizes differed greatly, and in all it seemed like the trees where put in placed there randomly. a tall tree near them was blossoming and his pink leaves contrasted with the white flowers that inhabited the entirety of its circumference. ''beautiful'' he though meanwhile jack picked up a few rocks and started smashing them together knapping big flakes out of them. "what are you doing?" asked Brandon confused "you remember that hippie bullshit mother brought us to when you where five?" said Jack without stopping to hit and adjust the rock along his palm "well you where still a kid, but mother forced me to take part in it too, there was a woman (who stink of weed) teaching how to make arrow heads and other tools from stone like the native Americans did." Jack finished his statement and kept shaping the rock while Brandon got closer and look at the work. the flint shaped object was the size of an average human head, he was striking the sides of it revealing a light brown color pointing out it was flint, with each strike the stone became thinner and shallower, the edges reflected the light already showing how sharp they where. Brandon trusted his brother and he understood what he was doing. they needed edged weapons. he had his folding knife, but it was not going to be enough, he knew his brother kept a boot knife and another one in his belt, was it enough? he doubted it. His train of though got interrupted when his brother suddenly stopped hitting the rock and looked in front of him with a 1000 yard stare "what is it?" Brandon looked in the same direction but seen nothing, only some low underbrush and trees. "i just felt something pop... i don''t know how to explain, it was like... like i can understand the process better... here" his brother handed him the two stones. the flint blade was definitely sharp and his awkward handling of it drew blood from cuts in his fingers. "ill be back in a second" Jack lounged in to the forest and disappeared from Brandon''s field of visions shortly after. "well, nothing to lose trying" Brandon put the already worked pice of flint on the floor and picked up a different rock, he did not wanted to mess up the work of his brother since he definitely did not remembered how to Knapp stone. he tried imitating the way and where his brother hit the stone, making sure to think logically where he hit, why and what happened after he hit it. Reading on Amazon or a pirate site? This novel is from Royal Road. Support the author by reading it there. he came to a conclusion, the reason his brother was adjusting and flipping the rock so much, when you hit the side, invert the rock and then hit it from the oposite side you remove big flakes but kept the edge line centered, this way you thin out the blade but at the same time keep a steady edge. also, bigger flakes make bigger edges, but those edges curve a little bit, and superposed with the next one will create a drag, similar to a saw like feeling, smaller flakes will creates smaller edges closer together giving it a more knife like feel to the blade. it was a downward process, you start by removing big flakes and gradually making them smaller and smaller until the point where you have a steady and thin blade with many small edges that will be sharp as razors. Jack returned carrying a couple of straight sticks. a few of them where thinner and longer for what would seem spears and the second half ones where thicker and shorter, probably for an axes or clubs. on his other hand he had a military style bayonet, the edge was skillfully honed, reflecting the light of the sun while the back side had a serrated saw like edge, Brandon knew that it was Jacks boot knife. for the rest of the morning until evening they keep looking for stones to transform in to blades and they worked them quickly. Brandon felt the "pop" as his brother described it two times during that morning. he could not explain it ether, but it was definitely something strange. at least it was something he never experienced back on earth. their skills improved and by the time the sun started to set down they where finishing their new and improvised weapons. During the last stage of the weapon making process Jack had collected some resin from the trees around their improvised camp and heated it up on top of a stone by using the fire pit, he mixed some ash in to the resin and collected the end result on the tip of a small stick forming what seemed like a big black egg of glue to hold down the spear tips to the shafts. after finding some fibrous grass like plants they made some improvised rope and fixed the rough flint spear point to the shafts. the remaining big sticks where carved in to heavy Greenwood clubs. "we will need to hunt something down tomorrow" said Jack while shaping a large pice of wood in to something resembling a crude bow. "we should find some river or some other kind of body of water and try to set camp close to it" Brandon agreed, all animals had to drink water, and being near a river or a lake might make it easier to find tracks and hunt. "Go to sleep, ill wake you up when its your turn on the watch" Brandon did not realized how tired he was until he laid down on the moss and closed his eyes. he was definitely running out in fumes and doubted he could have stayed up for much longer. before he fell asleep he saw his brother sitting behind the fire looking in to the forest, a Greenwood club laying on the floor in front of him while he was holding the stone spear with his both arms. Slowly the fatigue took over him and he was surrounded by darkness, his dreams where a mix of memories of him and his ex girlfriend and vague memories from when he visited that historical town that used to be in the frontier between the east and the wild west in the USA.
"Wake up" Whispered Jack while shaking Brandon, Bosco was on his feet with his fur erected and showed aggression by snarling. "there is something in the forest" Jack said while Brandon got up and picked up his crude stone spear. 04: First enounter "I''m writing you with my last strength My King. the Campaign was a total failure, we could not expand our territory what is more, we are retreating and leaving behind part of our territory to the savages. An arrow is protruding from my chest and i don''t think i have much longer. Cousin, don''t blame yourself for allowing me to march to this pointless battle, it was my warmongering that lead to not only my death but the death of half of my men. funny how when face to face with death one only wants to be with their loved ones. i wish you good fortune and hope the kingdom can find peace in this generation. I will be seeing you on the other side." -Last Words of General Corvus Antorax 3rd of his name.
The first thing Brandon noted was the overwhelming silence. it was not like the night before with insects and birds singing, even the wind seemed to have abandoned them. with one hand Jack tossed the remaining fire wood they had stored inside the crack of the cliff and shortly after a noticeable fire started to raise from inside of their digged out firepit. They saw a pair of eyes in the darkness glistening towards them, as the flames rose and reflected from the cliff made out of pale rock that was behind them they could make out what was in front of them. It was the head that resembled a giant owl like creature, it stood at around 6 foot tall. Its roar almost blew them to the ground, it was the same roar they heard the first night, but dangerously close. The beast emerged from the forest, it advanced slowly, testing the waters. pure black eyes that seemed like looking in to the abyss stared at them. If you had to describe the beast you would say that i had the body of a grizzly bear, with the dark fur of a black bear but the head is the one of an owl, a big hooked beak was deffinetly sharp and deadly it probably can fit a human leg between it and cut it in half with its seizer like motion ''a fucking owl bear" Brandon thought ''genuinely terrifying. thanks god'' It''s shoulders where wide, and only by guessing they could tell it weighted more than 1500 pounds. The beast drag its claws along the rock of the cliff shaving some in the process and showing of how sharp it''s nails where. the brothers stayed together and rotated, keeping the fire between them and the beast, Bosco was to the left snarling and ready to jump in. "Alright, lets test this" jack handed his phone to Brandon "play the ring tone and toss the phone inside the crack we sleep in when its behind it. then we attack."Support the creativity of authors by visiting the original site for this novel and more. Brandon took the phone, he was ready, holding his stone spear tightly with one arm, the beast was circling the fire place at a slow pace, without taking its eyes from them. the new shining black fur showed recent wounds. Blood had clothed but it was recently in a fight, probably last night and it still have not recovered from it. "now" jack whispered while taking a step closer to the fire pit. Brandon turned on the typical android phone ring tone and tossed the phone inside the crack of the cliff they where using as shelter, the sound traveled over the bear who looked at the device with a confused face but when the phone reached the cavern like structure the sound echoed inside and was projected towards the Owlbear who turned towards it surprised. Jack lunged forward the moment he was outside the monster''s vision field, the spear landed behind the beast''s shoulder it found some resistance from the fur at first, and the spear shaft bended slightly only to end up piercing the beast in the blink of an eye. the Owlbear screamed in pain and turned around, the spear which was embed inside its chest worked against him. not being able to stand his ground while still holding tightly to the shaft he was launched by the sheer force of the Beast, the spear worked as a force transmitter and launched Jack flying for around 12 feet, his momentum stopped by the trunk of a tree rendering him unconscious or so it seemed. "Fuck" Brandon cursed while the Owlbear was scanning the surroundings while coughing out blood from his pierced lungs. its eyes more afraid than threatening fixed on Brandon who raised his spear, they both lunged at each other immediately. "FUCK YOU!" screamed Brandon while stabbing with his spear, somehow Bosco was lodged in the air to the back of the Owlbear''s neck and was trying to tare it out, the bear kept charging pushing Brandon back, moving slowly since its left paw was rendered useless because of the Spear stuck behind its shoulder, its beak snapped trying to catch Brandon who was slowly loosing distance, his grip not strong enough to hold the spear was slowly giving away making him get closer and closer to the beast, the stone edge was stuck somewhere between the neck and the side of the monster, probably between two bones since it was not piercing in any deeper, in a swift second Brandon had an idea, he twisted the spear clockwise and pushed the back down against the floor making it a make shift pike like motion. the back of the spear locked with some stones of the floor, Brandon let got and lounged to the side, the Greenwood shaft stopped the bears advance, bending to almost a 90 degree angle before snapping in half. Brandon layed on the floor some 4 feet away from the beast that was turning towards him, vomiting blood it looked at him, it was scared, you could see it in its eyes. then its back legs gave out, with a lond thud it fell to the ground and exhaled its last breaths creating a slight mist with each breath before it layed down its head for the last time in its life. "Fuck me backwards!" exclaimed Brandon. Bosco jumped down from the back of the beast with a pice of fur, muscle and bone between its maws. Suddenly a feeling of invigoration took over him, it felt just like the "pop" the felt while doing the stone weapons, but this one was far more overwhelming, located deep inside their stomach at the hight of the belly button, it resembled more an orgasm than anything else. Brandon dropped to his knees and exhaled loudly. It was finally over. 05: monsters attack from up front, (((systema))) comes up from the rear. Jack woke up with a headache, after touching his forehead he groaned as waves of sharp pain circled his entire cranium. The place where he smashed against the bark of the tree was now a purple mass the size of a duck egg, it was swollen and it gave him waves of palpitating pain with every hearth beat. He checked his vision and concluded that he definitely had a concussion, but after standing without problems he ruled out long lasting brain damage. He saw the dead body of the Owlbear near where his brother was kneeling, one spear shaft embed on its side and a broken one protruding from its front. Bosco came running with his tongue hanging to the side before he licked his own face, it was covered in what now was coagulated blood from the bear, it seems like the dog did some damage to the beast. "You ok?" Jack asked his brother who was still breathing heavily next to the now dead monster. it was smaller than he remembered, maybe it shrunk down a little bit after dying or maybe it just seemed much bigger when standing and threatening them with certain death. "Yes" Brandon said while laying down on his back and forcing himself to breath slowly to calm down "i think so" concluded after patting his body a few times checking that everything was still in place. "Alright. give me a hand" Jack was pulling the beast''s hind legs, he put one over his shoulder and waited for his brother to take the other one "Just try to pull it near the cliff, don''t want any random monsters coming and snatching the corpse away before we have the chance to collect any usable materials." said jack before pulling with all his strength. it took them almost 5 minutes to move the corpse away enough from the forest edge so they deemed it safe. with each step his forehead shot strong waves of pain going from his head down his neck. after releasing the beast he sat down and layed against the cliff''s side "I should not sleep since I hit my head" exhausted but still with the will to survive. he need to rest for a few minutes before getting back on his feet. Brandon meanwhile retrieved the two spears that where stuck inside the Owlbear''s carcass and brought them to where Jack was sitting "This one still looks fine" Said Brandon while showing Jack''s spear "but mine one is totally fucked" the stone spear that shattered was a total mess, the blade was broken beyond repair and the shaft resembled the shape of a blossoming flower, only instead of petals it was made of splinted wood. "We have to gut it. the meat will spoil if we don''t." Jack got up and took out his bayonet from his boot, after cutting the beast''s neck to blood it they both pushed the beast on its side and jack started to cut the belly of the beast open, he cut around the gonads and was careful to not pierce the bladder, while Brandon kept the cavity open jack retrieved the entrails of the beast. he felt a "pop" but ignored it, he was getting used to this madness now. they dragged the intestines deep down in to the forest to not attract any other hungry beast they quickly returned to their makeshift camp. "Leave the body there, for now we need to rest, if by tomorrow we don''t find water we will probably die from dehydration" Last time jack was this tired was back in boot camp. he cursed his luck as he feed a couple of extra branches to the fire. "I know its a bad idea but i need to sleep, wake me up in a few hours, and check on me periodically, i don''t think my head injury is that bad but you never know" Jack layed down and fell asleep on his side quickly afterUnauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Brandon was worried about his brother but he could not do anything about it, for now he sat against the cliff and tried to rest, the adrenaline had worn off and his muscles now felt sore, dried out blood from the Owlbear coated his arms. he had his brother''s spear in his hands, he trusted at the air a few times as if slaying some invisible beast only to give up his daydreaming. he closed his eyes and tried to focus. deep down he felt something rumbling inside of him like an ocean of fire, located where the energy surged after the Owlbear died. it coated his insides, it made him feel powerful, he noted how that energy was present inside his body, how it coated everything, the further away from the center the thinner it was but it was still there, he tried to move it without success, he decided to work with the flow, his breathing became slower, on pace with his heath beats, he managed to fuse with the energy, it coated him with a pure raging fire but he was not burning, far from it, he felt like if he was floating, without form, ever changing, like flame. "Wake up" hiss eyes snapped open, it was morning, he was sure he did not feel asleep, it was definitely more like a trance, he was still embarrassed that he let himself go but he was not going to cry over spilled milk. Some things can not be undone. "You remember that last blue screen?" asked Jack to his brother while looking at the woods in front of them "Yes..." Brandon was confused but played along "Say "status" out loud" ordered Jack. Brandon realized something was weird about his brother, the big swell in his forehead was completely gone, only a small reddish patch of skin suggested he was hurt last night "s... Status" Brandon hesitated for a second only to his eyes open up as wide as plates

Brandon looked at his skills, some of them where self explanatory like Advanced Carpentry. the text read "third tier skill. Proficient in the art of building structures out of wood and wood like materials, structures, tools or other appliances made by the user will have a +3 to all stat modifiers." except for the added stat bonuses it was clear what "advanced" meant, he been working for close to 5 years as a carpenter with his brother after he dropped off college. he was not the best but he was good at his job, he worked fast and his results where above average in terms of quality. Advanced literacy on the other hand was a skill that boosted his intelligence and wisdom, but not only that, the text explained how it also made him three times more proficient in the learning of new languages and tripled the skill experience he gained from reading books specialized in a certain subject. for him, this was extremely overpowered. yes he learned how to read at an early age, and he was a book worm for most of his life, but that did not take away the utility of the skill. Intermediate Brawling came from when he was a teenager, he used to fight people all the time (hormones and stuff don''t judge) and he was good at it. and the rest of his skills he acquired after he got to this world. he realized that he did not had skills for his other hobbies like programing or a basketball skill even though he played almost every weekend and was considered one of the best players of their amateur team, it seemed like the (((systema))) system was more practical in nature. He sat there and wondered why his musical talent was not included, yes he might not have played the flute in the last 5 years but he spent all 4 years of high school in the band and was still good at it (or so he thought)
(((systema))) version 1.0.0.0.4 Automatic skill ajustment updated...
"motherfucker" he laughed Intermediate Musicianappeared as one of his skills and gave him (+2 Dex) "what did you do?" asked Jack who also got a notification "I was thinking about the skills and how they portrayed what i could do, then i remembered my 4 years in the high school band and asked myself why it was not included" Brandon had a grin. a scary one "it means that the skills from our world that we are proficient in and that are not listed here can be acquired now, if you remember exactly what you used to do" on the next 30 minutes they sat and tried to remember almost all the practical skills the had Jack was able to retrieve: intermediate boxing, Beginner Battle tactics, Intermediate Combat Sense, Beginner Ambush Countermeasures, Advanced Fitness, Intermediate Fishing. not only that but he acquired a couple of titles as well: Death Defier, Blood Sworn and Peace Finder He explained that he used to Box during his deployment with the USMC, all the other "battle" skills where related to his combat experience in the Marines. fishing was his hobby, and for titles he only explained Death Defier witch was when he dodged certain death when going to take a piss missing an RPG that blew up the room his teammates where in, he was the only survivor of his squat, the other two he refused to comment on. while Brandon was able to reclaim: Intermediate Wits from when he used to debate people on politics, Advanced improvisation he used to leave every project for the last minute and then bullshit his way out of everything, this was his common practice since 3rd grade, Intermediate Animal Training he taught Bosco tricks and commands since he was a pup and finally Intermediate Meditation he and his Ex used to do this hippie bullshit when they still dated. on terms of titles, Apprentice Scholar was a tittle given to anyone who had studied under people with a title equal or similar to scholar for more than ten years( he concluded that almost everyone would have this perk if they had a couple of years of college under their belt). he also was able to retreat the title Revenant this was because of his suicide attempt and subsequent full body and mental recovery after. their current Status screens looked like follow:

The skin of the beast became sacks and inside they carried meat and long bones that could be transformed in to weapons in the future. they decided to head East witch is where the now level 8 Woodsman skill suggested they would find water more easily. 07: Water "Being a Human is like being a Jack of all trades, we can have individuals that are big and strong like Orcs or Ogres, or small and sneaky like Elves, Some of us are blessed with magic aptitude others have Battle Auras. This does not mean that humans are in any way inferior to their Bipedal counterparts, but it does make our forces more disperse in terms of specialization and over all peak performance. In the New World continent there are variants of almost every sentient race, and humans can mate with almost every single one of them. Some Scholars have argued that its because many millennia ago every sentient race evolved from the proto humans or "The First Men" as some like to call them This evolution theory is yet to be confirmed and not widely accepted, but I consider it to the be the most accurate one. A Human can mate with an Ogre and create an Ogrekin, a Human can mate with an Elve and create a Half Elve, but and Elve and can not mate with an Ogre or Orc. Experiments have been made and the conclusion drawn is that Humans are the Base Seed of all the Sentient bipedal Races of this world. We can only keep researching" - Theories of Human Reproduction By Scholar Guilvert Of Hightower
Their Status reached "Extremely Dehydrated" and "Famished" before the sun reached its zenith. The fur sacks they where carrying became heavier with each step but they pressed on. The walk was harsh, but the slight downwards slope helped them slightly making it an easier burden to bare. The cliff that was their shelter for the first two nights was nowhere to be seen for the past few hours, Jack walked under the shadow of a big tree and released his grip dropping the fur sack to the ground. sitting next to it they decided to make a pit stop. Brandon followed shortly and took a spot next to his brother, Bosco was not doing any better, his snout was drying out showing how he was not immune to basic necessities like water. Brandon cursed his luck, he had a huge Headache and his lips where dry as cardboard, full of cracks and scabs, they bleed at first, but now his blood was so thick it coagulated very fast. Black bags under his eyes, he decided to close them and drift away to his dream world. He was unable to, his body sore and pained from the long hike he regretted carrying the Greenwood club with them. the thing was heavy and useless in his opinion, but it being the only mid range weapon he could have he preferred it to his pocket knife if they actually had to fight some monsters. It all boils down to pros and cons. for the next 30 minutes they sat under the tree until Jack jumped to his feet and exclaimed "WATER!" Abandoning the fur sacks they both rushed down the hill and in less than five minutes of running and with the troats dry as sand paper they reached a river. they did not care for boiling the water to rid it from microbes, the water was rushing down stream very fast yet it was transparent, of a very light Cyan color. Both brothers rushed to the bank of the river and submerged their heads in to the water and drank. It was a gift from the gods, cold refreshing water, almost sweet tasting, but before he could drink himself full Jack pulled Brandon back out from the water. "Don''t drink to fast, you might get sick, we have to do it slowly" Brandon did not knew why, but his brother has been right every time since they came here, so he listened. With his thirst half quenched for now they walked back to where they abandoned their provisions. Jack raised his first and ducked down hiding behind some underbrush while he scanned the tree they been sitting under a small bipedal creature was taring trough their belongings, it stuffed its face with the meat and picked up the stone spear, trusting in to the air as to test the tool, it discarded the weapon since it was to big for it to use it properly. Jack made hand signs for Brandon and Bosco to follow them and they circled around the woods, getting closer to the tree trying to not get noticed by the creature. At around 30 feet they separated, preparing a pincer attack on the beast. They Humanoid did not see them coming in fact the first one to make it to the Creature was Bosco who bit It in the shin, It screamed with a high pitched voice and hit the dog two times in the head before Jack was able to grab the Greenwood club and rendered the Humanoid unconscious with a fast strike to the temple of the head. Bosco released his maws and shook his head a few times to recover from the strikes. The Humanoid was around 4 feet tall, It''s skin color was a brownish green, a long and hooked nose protruded from it''s face, long and sharp teeth composed his jaws, and it was skinny. it dressed in a lion cloth, but had a brown almost wood bark colored cloak. on top. a small iron dagger on its waist witch they took away immediately, they used some of the spare rope they had from the two days prior weapon making, and tied the Goblin down. They did not wanted to call it a goblin, boggart or any other fantasy like name because of the insanity implied, but it was the only right name for such creature. since it looked and behaved like one. Revitalized Jack took two of the sacks now considerably lighter after the Goblin''s raiding while Brandon fireman carried the tied down Goblin. they made it to the river before the Creature woke up. Brandon dropped the thieve like a sack of potatoes on the river bank witch was composed of multiple kinds of rocks which where rounded out river pebbles. The Goblin woke up and groaned in pain only to realized his situation, he started screaming out of his longs, Brandon stroke him in the jaw with his fist and the Monster got the message and shut his pained mouth closed. "Well then little thieve" Said Jack while taking out his boot Bayonet and his belt knife, both blades where shiny and sharp, they reflected the light of the sun. "No please, I''m sorry, i did not meant to" the goblin pleaded on the verge of tears in a broken English Brandon and Jack looked at each other confused Not only the Goblin could speak, it spoke English. The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation. 08: Questions "To the north the great mountain ridge, the main population center is The Highland Clan, on its vicinity small Log villages make up the entirety of the Human settlements, A tribal society, with a Matriarch and a Patriarch as main Heads of the villages they breed tall and strong, creating the mightiest melee fighters of the kingdom. Rarely involved in the trivial matters of the kingdoms of the Coasts and hills they keep to themselves and wage bloody wars against the mountain Dwarves and the Terrifying Frost Orcs. The Coast or "Newland" as called by the first settlers is under the rule of the Firsteman Kings, an adopted last name that the first Ruler of the Big Settlements took. This settlements became cities, with the capital being Letterport, an giant fortress like city with stone walls as tall as five men standing on top of each other, and as thick as a house. the Great Planes are under the rule of the Antorax Royal family exiles at first from Newland they settled and prospered and in less than a century they became a mighty power to be weary off. It''s name is The Kingdom of Veggrfields translated from the old tongue it would mean "the borderland fields", this kingdom economy spins around their constant military campaigns against the "Savages" to reclaim more land for the Kingdom. The fertile land that the planes provide has attracted many peasants with nothing to lose to emigrate and take a pice for themselves, so its free for everyone, and the only payment required is a part of the yield that you have to pay as taxes. This land is the most rewarding but also the most dangerous one since there is plenty of monsters roaming the country side. Many non affiliated Villages populate the Borderlands between the vast wilderness. and the kingdoms. mostly undisturbed by the Kings and often raided by the natives. It is a cruel life being part of the Free Folk, but they do not bare the burden of being under the rule of Kings or other Nobles." -Basic History of The New Continent By multiple authors.
"How do you speak our language?!" Jack had put away his knifes and was holding the Goblin by the shoulders shaking him "i do not knows what you mean master" the Goblin muttered scared shitless, tears forming on the edge of his eyes. confused about the question "ENGLISH! HOW CAN YOU SPEAK ENGLISH YOU MUTT!?!?" Jack screamed in to the Goblin''s face, some of his saliva was launched with every word "we do not speaks... Engrish my lord... we speaks common... tongue" the goblin muttered while shaking not understanding the situation "that is enough" Brandon put his hand on his brother''s shoulder. Jack released the goblin who fell down and hit the floor. Jack massaged his temples and went to wash his face with fresh water from the river. Brandon picked up the goblin and dragged him near the forest edge, he let the goblin take a seated position against a tree. hand and feet still tied together, he could not move "I suppose you have a name" Brandon asked the Creature while looking at him from above. "Crug" the Goblin muttered while shaking his head up and down confirming the assumption. Brandon Grinned while he squat down, he made sure to show his pearl white teeth to the goblin, as sign of aggression between animals, which he suspected goblins also had. "Ok Crug, now you are going to answer all our questions, if we consider or even suspect that you are lying or that you are not fully honest. You will die" said Brandon while taking out his pocket knife and showing the sharp blade to the Goblin. Bosco was standing next to him and started snarling at the goblin who cringed at the sight of the dog''s sharp fangs. He already knew how painful a bite from the canine was. "What is "common tongue?" asked Brandon, jack was standing behind him, he already finished washing his face and he had calmed down "Common tongue are a mix of Old Humans tongue and moderns elvish my lord, It''s useful and used by most races this days as a seconds tongue" the goblin said with a shaking voice Brandon got up and whispered something to his brother, they both nodded and he squatted once again next to the Goblin " Modern Elvish as in Elves? you mean human like tall and blonde with pointy ears?" Brandon did not seemed amused, he as asking a serous question the goblin shook his head up and down agreeing with the statement "not only blondes my lord, they gots silver hair like the moon, red as fire, blacks as night and brown as tree''s bark, there are diferents kind of elves my lord" the goblin said more calmed down now Brandon massaged the bridge of his nose, this was going to be a long conversation.
By the end of the evening they have gathered many useful information. Crug was what the local Humans called an "Orc variant" smaller and lighter than regular orcs who where on average 6 feet tall and of muscular build, he was part of a sub species, he was an exiled Goblin (and yes, they decided to keep calling him a Goblin), kicked out of their village that was situated a week on foot to the north, he was exiled because they considered him clumsy and a trouble maker, truly a Jarjar binks origin story. The woods around them where dangerous, and the Owlbear the killed on their second night was not the worst that populated them. Flocks of Harpys, Orcs, Worgs, Orgres, Trolls, Forest giants, Cockatrices, Basilisks, Faye, Elves, Isectoids that differed in sizes, from spiders as big as Bosco to 40 feet long giant centipedes, if you can imagine it you name it. Seems like Crug was never in this parts, their goblin villagers never ventured this far south, only the warriors, and since he was an exile he just kept walking until he found our sacks full of juicy fresh meat and decided to have a feast. Crug also told them that if they headed East, in a few months (he said between one and two months on foot) they would find The Green sea as he called it, they thought he meant grass fields. His village had stories that Humans like the two of us had their cities there. It was a long journey. A long term plan impossible to reach right now.
They where not heartless and they understood Crug''s situation, but they where not in a position that allowed them to show charity, sitting some 20 feet away from the tied down goblin the brothers where having a discussion "So you just want to release him?" Brandon asked his brother, perplexed "I''m not saying that. but i also don''t want his blood on my hands. he is not a mindless killing beast like the Owlbear, he can talk and think, he experiences fear and he already been abandoned by his people, what are you suggesting? killing him in cold blood?" Jack seemed annoyed and upset, his brows frowned as he spoke "No i don''t mean cut his throat, but we cant just cut him lose and give him a pat on the back "there you go buddy, no bad blood between us" can we?" Brandon reiterated "ok. i will deal with it." Jack barked, he got up and grabbed his Greenwood club. Brandon sat and watched how his brother Knocked out the scared goblin, picked him up and went towards the river after switching the club for the Stone spear The author''s content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. "i will be back in a few hours" Jack walked up the river to a more shallow part, half of the way he walked while keeping the unconscious Goblin''s head out of the water and using the spear shaft as a walking stick, the other half he shimmed on his back similar to the way Life Guards do when carrying an unconscious person, shortly after he disappeared in to the forest on the other side of the river. Brandon did not knew if they made the right choice, he suspected that Jack will leave the goblin somewhere deep inside the forest before releasing him and then backtrack to where they where. he trusted his brother''s skills. there was something bugging him though. He started to suspect that the two titles he refused to talk about had something to do with this situation, in one way or the other. Blood Sworn and Peace Finder. maybe that is why he was reluctant to kill that goblin, Peace Finder seemed the most logical choice. Probably it appealed to his morals and made him reluctant to kill innocent creatures. Brandon went in to the forest and started collecting fibrous grass and other materials to make rope, they will need it for their settlement. By the time Jack returned it was almost dark. Brandon had collected wood for the fire, and a good load of other materials for the temporary shelter tonight. Spoiler: Current Status

09: Shelter "Its calling me. As terrifying as it is, the only thing that my dreams are about is the forest [......] I''m Obsessed. At the beginning i tried to ignore it, but the more i try the strongest the urge becomes [......] I don''t think i have the strength to postpone it any longer. I will march in to the Wild. For better or worst. i cant take it any longer" -Scrambles on a piece of paper found inside an abandoned Free Folk Hut on the Borderlands
The next few days went Uneventful. During the day they worked on making their shelter. They scouted up the river (to the chronological south) less than a Kilometer away from where they settled the first night on the river bank there was a high ground near a small water fall. after some deliberation they decided it was a great spot to set their semi-permanent camp. After Jack made some stone Axes that resembled the ones you find in museums they chopped down some trees. Using their Carpentry Skills and some logical thinking they where able to create a small Hut, which consisted of a tilted roof on a rough 50 degree angle with some side walls, the entrance was a hole with an removable "door", it could be closed at night creating a completely sealed shelter on all 4 sides. the gaps between the thin Greenwood logs where filled with moss and coated on the outside with mud. it was not a perfect seal but it kept the chilling wind at night away. The roof was covered in small branches full of big green Leafs witch''s shape reminded the two brothers of Maple, but far bigger and dense. they packed it tightly in bundles superposed so the rain water would not drip down on them. the back side of the shelter where the roof meet the floor was used for storage and the more elevated part was used as sleeping quarters. Their matrass was elaborate non the less. the base was made of three layers of moss that was left to dry on some rock for two days, after it lost its green color and became a dry brown sponge like material it was ready to be used. the covered it with some green leaves that where 2x1 feet, similar to banana leaves in texture and shape it prevented the itching the moss caused. and for pillows they normally used ether a small bundle of folded "banana leaves" with a square of aromatic forest bushes they found scattered around the underbrush. Jack argued that if they bathed regularly and slept in it they would smell like the forest, erasing their scent for the wild beasts that roamed the Wilderness. After Jacks Woodsman skill got the intermediate level he started to dry the Owlbear hides, stretching the pelt with some sticks and leaving it on the sun fur side up for a week. then Brandon used the skills he learned from back on earth and did a mediocre job on the braining of the Hides. still better than if they where not treated at all, they now counted with their own hand made Fur capes that also where surprisingly warm blankets at night. Jack and Brandon acquired and Reached Level 2 and level 4 respectively on their "Hidetreating" skills. with his Earth knowledge Brandon was able to grind the skill down far quicker than Jack who watched and tried to learn the poorly done technique that Brandon had. but on the other hand the Weapons and Armor that Jack was able to Craft where far superior to anything Brandon was able to do. Mostly composed of Stone spear Spears and throwing Javelins, a Crude survival bow with stone tip arrows and a couple of just regular wooden ones they where starting to become proficient in the use of them. Somehow Jack found some Obsidian Glass in the river bank and argued that the river originated on the slope of some volcanoes. Brandon did not knew if this assumption as right but the two dark purple blades where beautiful to look at when exposed to the sun or the light of a camp fire, the last blade he made became his main weapon an obsidian spear point with a heat treated shaft that was far lighter and sturdier than the Greenwood counterparts. Their armor was mostly over their Human (or Terran as the (((systema))) liked to call them) clothes, it was intertwined wood bark peeled from a strange kind of tree they where able to scout out. Each of them had chest plates, some arm bands, and a rough helmet with a face mask. if someone from back on earth saw them they would argue they looked like some Aboriginal shaman from the rain forest. Brandon focused on archery, the first few days where rough but after he power leveled his newly acquired Archery skill with the help of earth science. he used logical reasoning and tried to apply his knowledge of parabolas, math and physics to adjust the flight of the arrows. as for Food, the river provided them with all they needed, Intermediate fishing was a great skill to have and after they done some fish traps they managed to have a steady food source without the need to be present doing the catching as you would have to when fishing with a rod.
"we been here for almost two weeks, there''s been no monster sightings, i think we over did it a bit, maybe we are to paranoid and this place is not as dangerous as we thought" Brandon said while talking our some clay pots they cooked by using the clay found in a near river bank wall. "You had to jinx it man" Jack half joked, was more talkative this past few days, and he genuinely seemed in a better mood than back on earth, maybe he despised his life back there. Brandon realized he did not really knew his brother that well. Jack took out a small clay object form the clay treating oven, it was an hand made ocarina he been trying to create for the past few days, he handed it over to Brandon who tried to play it. the past 5 attempts to make one where a failure, but as a tool it would be useful, the sound of an ocarina was very distinctive, and it could be heard for miles if the terrain was the adequate, it would make a great signaling tool since they could not make blow horns like they had in Lord of the Rings. This one seemed fine, it had a Similar concept as a Flute and Brandon was able to play a simple tune. Jack laughed out loud and clapped his brother in the back "Now a few crude cave paintings and we will confuse all the archeologist that find this artifacts in the next thousands of years" Brandon smiled, rarely he heard his brother make jokes. They walked down the river to a more calmed part where their fish traps where set and collected the three unlucky ones that fell for the bait. Dinner was secured, after killing the fish with a quick hit to the head they put a string across the eyes of each fish and hung the rope loop on their shoulder. Brandon was suspicious about the fish traps, he had the wild guess that Crug was still around and stole fish from them since for the past week they been finding less and less fish inside of them. also it could be that they are having bad luck or maybe its just low season for fishing on this side of the continent, he was sure they scared the Goblin enough for him to never come near them again and Bosco never shown any signs that the little goblin was still wondering around this area. He felt bad for abandoning the goblin on its own, but what could they do. at least they did not killed him. Leaving those thoughts aside. One thing was clear, when you worked hard, life was rewarding
Bosco Ate his fish heads happily munching on them for quite a while, their dinner was over and they sat around a camp fire they had between the river and their shelter, on the round river pebbles that made the shore. Brandon was looking inside the flames. they made him remember the feeling he had the second night. Raging fire inside of him, enveloping his body. This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience. He took off his Ocarina pendant and started playing from his hearth, a sad tune expressing all his feelings. A memory of lost love, the tragic death of their mother back on earth, the overwhelming vastness of this woods that surrounded them, he felt his heath sink, sadness taking over him and becoming alive with each note. Jack listened with a disconnected face expression lost in thought. and when Brandon stopped playing he looked up to the now red sky, the sun was setting, marking an end to this day, he shed a tear and sobbed very slightly. Bosco''s ears jumped up and he looked down stream expressionless. Jack tilted his head and pointed his ear down the river. "what is it" asked Brandon while reaching for his Bow, now more or less recovered from the overwhelming barage of feeling that took over him. "Shhh, Listen" said Jack while putting a finger on his lips. The feint sound of a song traveled up the river, giving lyrics to the tune he was just playing. Brandon felt cold sweat covering the entirety his body and a slight shiver traveled up his spine. There was someone or something singing down the river, and the sound was becoming louder and clearer every minute. Spoiler: Current Status

10: Dancing With Mermaids "There is no clear difference between what powers Magic and Battle Auras&Arts, they are powered by The Well of Power, an invisible organ that is only present in spirit form at the height of one''s stomach. One can draw magical power from it to ether Cast Magic Spells or do Battle Arts. with enough training and experience one can draw Magic from the environment increasing one''s capabilities since Magic is present in all matter that surrounds us. Usually an Individual will have Affinity towards an element. Most of them are stable, with the exception of the Fire Element, the most volatile of them all." -Introduction to Magic By Multiple Authors.
The Song was mesmerizing, captivating. Before they realized they saw something or someone swimming up stream in a quick manner, a lone figure a first, joined by others in a blink of an eye. half fish half women with green scales that covered their tails, from time to time some of them emerged playfully and sang, other giggled while covering their faces with their hands, long hair covered their heads, with different colors. what was clear is that all of them where attractive in a weird sort of way. Hard to miss since they where naked. They stared and stared for God knows how long, mouths wide open, they did not move, this only caused the Mermaids to laugh harder. they talked between each other in a quick manner, it was a different dialect, one they could not understand. A rogue Mermaid swimmed closer to the river shore and splashed some water with her tail towards the two brothers releasing them from their spell (one could only call it that) A couple of them rose up to their waist from the deep waters of the river and sang for a good thirty seconds and then dived down disappearing in to the confusing movements of the flock. "Play something" Said Jack without taking his eyes away from the spectacle. Brandon looked at Bosco who was still laying on the floor with his head raised looking at the strange creatures, for some reason he was calm, he looked more curious than afraid or threatened. Brandon sat down next to the fire and tried to focus on playing some tune. He got distracted by an emerging Mermaid with a good front porch (cough cough) and the sound that emanated from his ocarina was not the one intended, this made the female Giggle and dive back under the water playfully. He closed his eyes and focused, using all of his Willpower he dived down inside his mind. Floating in between raging fire, the flames touched his skin but it felt like they where made of ice and before he realized it his body was moving on his own, following the flow. The music was being projected from deep down, one could argue that i came from his soul, slowly he felt the energy held within him flowing inside his body, pulsating with each heath beat, he was surrounded by a fire. No he was the fire, Ever changing, a projection of him, what made him who he was. When he opened his eyes. He was not sitting near the fire pit any more, instead he was in the river edge. His body had a will of his own, and while he played the tune he moved as if he was in a trance, each step, each time his body bent it meant something to him, deep down inside his soul was speaking for him. The edge of his vision began to blur but he was unable to stop his body kept pressing on, more aggressive movements started to appear, and the tune''s tempo increased in speed, around him the ground was releasing steam, he did a twist and then his legs gave out, even with his blurry vision he saw the ground closing on him as he fell down. Only blackness followed.
The music Flew trough him, and the way The Mermaids danced in the water hypnotized him, their singing reached deep down inside of him painting a picture in his mind. it was a song about a weeping woman crying on top of the grave of a loved one. On the corner of his eye he saw movement, he turned and saw Brandon dancing along the tune, the mermaids seemed to follow him, along the edge of the river, raising their heads over the water every now and then. Jack forgot about the Mermaids the moment he realized something was wrong. he saw his brother covered in what seemed a thin layer of flames, Rushing towards him he tried to stop Brandon from doing this trance dance but he was unable to get close to him, in a few seconds his hands where already covered in blisters, shortly after his brother increased his pace the flames became bigger, a thicker layer covered his whole body before he passed out in the edge of the river shore near the water. Around him the stones where burning hot and steam rose up around him, but when Jack picked up Brandon His brother was of normal temperature, his clothes and the wooden armor was intact. He exhaled loudly relived. it only seemed like his brother passed out from exhaustion. which was normal after the show he just displayed. After laying him back down inside their shelter and making sure Bosco stayed with him he went near the river and recovered the Ocarina that was laying on the floor. That thing was dangerous. The mermaid where laughing and singing, ignoring the severity of the situation. Jack sat down and looked at the Creatures in front of him, some of them where singing their own songs now. Others where playing games between them, splashing water and then racing one after another. A pair of eyes was staring at him, reflecting the light of the bonfire a mermaid that only had half of her head out of the water was looking at him, the water line less than one inch shy of covering her eyes. Her stare seemed to leave him naked, She did not looked at him she looked in him. He shifted on his seat and meet her gaze, they looked at each other for an unknown amount of time, slowly the Mermaid swimmed closer to the river shore, for each feet she got closer more of her face was visible as the river became shallower. He had no words to describe her beauty. it was overwhelming. She smiled, showing pearl white human like teeth, somehow Jack was relieved that they where not some sharp fangs like the goblin''s. After taking out a pendant she had around her neck she tossed it to him, he caught it mid air, the rope was wet and made from a material he could not discern, in the middle of it an hexagonal stone rod was hanging, it was of purple color, resembling an amethyst. Jack looked at the mermaid while still holding to the pendant. he pointed a finger at himself and asked "For me?" They did not speak each other''s language but the mermaid smiled and agreed with her head. Jack shrugged and put the pendant on. Immediately he felt a "pop" similar to when he leveled a skill, before he could check his status the mermaid dived and all of them rushed down the river with the current scary fast. Jack calculated their speed to be at least 40 miles per hour. He opened his status and choked on some saliva, he coughed loudly and could only say one word between each breath "what the fuck?"

11: Consequences "It is encouraged between the Mage schools for the students to create their own Magic Spells. Copying the skill of someone else is possible but the result will never be the same in terms of Magic Efficiency and the over all result. Only in times of war when there is not time for experimenting that it is encouraged for young Casters Apprentices to copy cat the skills of their instructors." -Introduction to Magic By Multiple Authors
Jack was sitting in a corner of the Shelter, opposite to where his now feverous brother was sleeping while muttering gibberish about "Cleansing Fire" and "Truth Showing Flames" between other fire related stuff he did not cared about. He was still in shock about what the pendant hanging from his neck implied. He tried to take it off but the Title Engaged did not disappeared. He rested his head on his knees and tried to think but there was no logical reason behind that Woman''s... no, Mermaid''s "proposition", it was his brother the one that called them with his music, it was him who played the music as they singed. why would she, SHE, such a beautiful woman... MERMAID! He screamed inside his head while he put his hands over it while rocking back and forth like a traumatized child. beautiful breasts and being isolated from any member of the opposite sex for weeks has started to play tricks on his mind, it had to be some kind of magic of some sort, it had to be... (breast magic) he cursed his mind for making fun of him. This was a serious situation, not only he did not know her, but she was a different spiciest all together, they did not speak the same language or at least he thought so, and what is worst... SHE SCARED HIM, somehow he felt like she had a way to see inside of him he did not wanted other people to know who he was. He had done regrettable things. Things he was ashamed off, and he did not desired anyone to know about it. After they got to this God forsaken land and Figured out the Whole (((systema))) bullshit he thought he could get away from his past, he actually enjoyed nature, that is why his Fishing skill was so high level, all he did back on earth was Work construction and Fish on his free time, the money he earned bought him the peace he needed to keep on living and not end up as his brother a couple of years back when he tried to hang himself after their mother died. Life is Dark and its scary, but even here nature is beautiful and full of colors, possibilities. The cold and wet touch of Bosco''s snout touching his arm brought him back from the deep corners of his mind. "sup buddy" with a sorrowful smile he petted the dog who seemed to have grown quite a bit since they landed in this magic world, The dog''s eyes shined in the dark. "wanna go outside?" asked Jack, Bosco''s tail wiggled left and right excited. before leaving he helped his brother drink some water, he was sweating while mumbling about fires and flames talking to him. after putting the clay cup down he was about to get up when a strong grip held him by the wrist, he looked at Brandon who was now staring back at him, eyes as wide as they could get. "I see you with gray hair, sitting on a wooden chair, four of your grandkids running around the hall playing, you are smiling, the room smells of camomile and raspberries, a woman smiles at you and you from down the room and you seem happy... I see you, young as now, walking on an endless grass field, an army of mounted men charging at you, tears rolling down your face, you smell the air for a last time before raising your weapons... I see you kneeling under a tree, your broken spear in front of you, instead of skin, meant and bones covering your body there is only stone, two dead kids are in front of you, beasts are feasting on their corpses..." Brandon''s eyes rolled inside his skull and he began muttering about fire once again releasing his iron grip from his brothers wrist. Jake fell down on his ass and tried to crawl away from his brother. he did not understood what happened but it was terrifying. he rubbed his wrist, it hurt, he did not knew his brother had this kind of strength, it would probably leave him a bruise. He "unlocked" the door and put it on the side he went down the river and collected some fresh water to boil. It was almost dawn, and the sky was starting to turn light blue on the horizon. he filled the big clay pot but before he turned around he saw something laying down on the river shore, a small bundle of what seemed turnips or some other root vegetable carefully placed there as an offering or more likely a gift. His Woodsman skill did not raised any alarms and it seemed like they where edible. they would have some fish soup for breakfast then.
While the soup boiled he started Flint Knapping some raw obsidian glass he found along the river bank He needed to get his mind away from deadly attractive Mermaids that tricked him in to getting engaged and feverous prophecies that made no sense. Spoiler: Current Status

12: Bosco, You sneaky Bastard! "Enter you may. Only the worthy ones are allowed to exit" -Runic Carvings on the doors of The Toomb of Bakah The Unifier
The day was long, and around evening Jack was running out of raw materials to keep grinding his Crafting Skills. He was relived that did not encountered any deadly monsters since they made camp near the river. No, they did, those river witches where scary and he was now under the spell of one. He cursed his luck. Bosco emerged from the forest as usual, the first days they hesitated to leave the dog running around the wilderness, but they where busy building the shelter, and only could keep an eye on the Doberman for so long before he slipped in to the dense forest, he always returned and by now it was something normal. Jack had a growing suspicion that the dog is been hunting on his own, he ate the food they gave him, usually leftovers from dinner, but the hound was growing bigger each day even though he was around 6 or 7 years old, last night before the Whole prophecy that his brother gave him he noticed that the dog had glowing red eyes. Back on earth he would have been worried, here it was just another anomaly between thousands, it worked almost as camouflage. for all he knew the dog could appear with wings some day and the only thing they could do is shrug it off. He whistled and the dog trotted to where he was sitting, his tongue hanging to the side and the quick paced panting showed he been exercising recently. Jack rubbed the dog under the chin and played with his ears for a bit but when he returned to knapping the stone he realized that his hands had traces of blood on them. Jack examined the dog, he did not have any wounds around his head, His dark fur made it hard to notice at first but around his maws the dog had traces of fresh blood. "what you do buddy?" Jack asked while raising Bosco''s head and making him look in to his eyes, questioning him. They definitely had a red shine to them he noted. Brandon emerged from inside their shelter and stretched, the whistling must have woken him up. last time Jack checked on him his fever had died down and he was not delirious any more. "how long was I out?" Brandon asked while approaching Jack, he took a Clay bowl and filled it up with some fish soup, using a carved pice of wood that worked as a spoon. "Almost a full day. the sun will start setting soon." Jack said while wrapping some twine around an arrow head necklace he crafted out of some shiny blue rock he found while diving on the deep parts of the river that morning. "shieeet" Brandon said before drinking the full bowl of soup down, he spit out some fish bones on the ground and served himself another one. "had some crazy ass dreams, more like hallucinations" "I know." said Jack with a harsh voice before threading the necklace and adjusting the knot before cutting the excess twine. "So what happened?" Brandon was staring at his brother, wafting for a response "You went in to a trance, got covered in flames and then passed out, the fish ladies found it amusing and laughed, the rest you already know" Jack did not looked at his brother once. he immediately regretted trying to push his brother away, it only feed his curiosity "is that all?" Brandon asked while raising a brow "Bosco returned recently from the forest, he had blood around his mouth" Said Jack while waiving his hand dismissively towards the dog. "right..." Brandon did not buy it, fuck! "so what have you been up to?" asked Brandon while playing with the dog for a bit. As if a lightbulb has turned on inside his head Jack had an idea "Bosco Status" Jack said while looking at the dog, who turned his head and looked confused not recognizing the command. Jack dropped the rock he was holding in his hand. "No way..."

13: Training "Lock your doors and windows to no avail, Scream until your lungs bleed to not be heard, Pray but do not hold dear to hope, not even Gods can help you. The skies will turn blood red and the earth will be pierced by fangs bigger than the greatest mountains, oceans will be drained down The Ender''s throat, he will devour our world and everyone in it, his hunger never satisfied, his thirst never quenched. He is coming." - Prophecy of The End of Times by Unknown
While brandon was meditating trying to unlock the mysteries of Magic Jack was training with the spear and a thickly made tower shield he crafted a few days back. They have discovered that just as Bosco, their Equipment also had Stats, for example Jack''sHandcrafted Obsidian SpearandHandcrafted Tower shield
Handcrafted Obsidian Spear Piercing Dmg: 75 Slashing Dmg: 30 Blunt Dmg: 5 Condition:New Master Carpenter Bonus: +4 to all Stat modifiers
Handcrafter Tower Shield Piercing Def: 50 Slashing Def: 45 Blunt Def: 45 Blunt Dmg: 40 Condition:New Master Carpenter Bonus: +4 to all Stat Modifiers
They had yet to discover what "stat modifiers" implied but they had the suspicion that i had something to do with their Strength Dexterity and Agility, at least with the Melee weapons. i could mean a +4% efficiency or +40% for all they knew, but at this time the more advantages they could get the better. The evening preceded undisturbed for the most part until they decided to go hunting some monsters, it was not a reason of food or territory but more of a hit to their pride since their Dog could probably kill them both without them realizing it. not only he matched some of their stats, he doubled others. Jack tried to focus on his stance and kept trusting with his spear, using footwork from boxing he advanced and then circled around an invisible enemy. Each trust was directed towards the vitals of the shadow, he spin around and used his spear to trow a very wide slash before he lost footing and almost fell to the ground. "FUCK!" Jack cursed out loud, the river''s noise was messing with his mind making him remember the events that happened a few days past. after shaking his head and getting rid of the memories he ventured inside the woods without hesitation, he needed quiet. Bosco who was laying on the floor sleeping in between the two brothers rose his head and immediately followed him.
Brandon was fully trapped in his inside world, with one hour training he managed to cast a flame not bigger than the one casted by a zippo lighter, he could move it around at will, but the faster and further away he tried to cast the flame the more it burned his magic, or at least its what his gut told him. He was now trying to analyze what the process of creating this flame was. Somehow he expected it to not be explainable with the """terran""" scientific method, but their original planet and this world seemed to share basic science. He was now trying to find out how he was able to cast the flame. Energy is not lost it is transferred, and him creating a flame from thin air means that he must be burning some sort of fuel. His mind wondered deeper and deeper focusing on the flame between his hands, it was warm and inviting almost a part of himself, like an extra invisible limb. He felt the air around the flame and concluded that he was steadily feeding the small fire tongue with mana. If mana was the fuel that he used to create the flame then he could ideally create a process, a scripted series of commands programed to execute when certain conditions where meet. The same way a computer program worked. at least this is how it was in the table top games he played. Magic had more in common with computer science than with anything else and his major in college before he dropped out was in computer science. With his basic knowledge of chemistry he tried to feed the Flame with oxygen, since he could not feel the air around him he tried to focus on the flame only taking a select part of the air around it, at the beginning he could not tell what the flame was consuming, it died down a few times when feeding on a certain air chemical he could not discern but at the end he found out what oxygen felt like, better said what it tasted like, an acidic taste that took over his taste buds reminding him of how lemons where took over his mouth while the flame roose higher and wider before it matched the bonfire in front of him. Increasing the size of the flame by feeding it Oxygen consumed very little mana compared to increasing its size with raw mana itself. This was a break thorough. He channeled and tried to mod the fire stream to be projected from his palm, creaming a blow torch like fire stream, he twisted the flames in a spiral and soon he felt a "pop" indicating he finally managed to create his first magic spell.
Flamethrower A steady stream of flame projected from any part of the Casters body dealing high Fire dmg to anyone hit by this spell. Advanced literacy modifier: -5 to mana drain per second
Not only Advanced Literacy helped him daily it also affected the way his magic worked since he understood how fire worked in a chemical level. Brandon opened his eyes and smirked, this was going to be a fun Day. Before returning to his experiments he pointed his palm at the river that was some 15 yards away and casted flamethrower, the acidic taste in his mouth from the oxygen was starting to become familiar. the flames where projected in a thin spiral, reminding him of footage of the exhaust of turbine engines, they twisted and ended kissing the surface of the water that traveled down stream. Brandon''s predator smile grew wider.
The sound of the River could not be heard any more, Jack leaned his spear and shield against a tree and sat next to it. he needed time to think. His hand reached inside his shirt and took out the pendant on his neck, he looked down while holding it and asked himself if he was being irrational about the whole river mermaid ordeal. Yes there where different species, yes he did not even knew if she had a vagina, and they might not really speak the same language, but on the other hand she was pretty. wars have been waged over women that not even looked half as good as her, that was certain. Jack closed his fist and held tightly to the pendant while he closed his eyes. trying to focus on his thoughts. he knew that to unlock the "well of power" he had to reach some sort of enlightenment in his mind. His brother got it after he went in trance while playing music, he did not knew when or how Bosco unlocked his since the dog could not talk but it was certain, he probably also could do so. They needed power to survive this land. They been spoiled by the dogs overprotective instincts, he probably drove away most dangers now that he was such high level, ether that or he killed any approaching threats, his titles where scary especially the Reaper one, he had a wild suspicion that critical strikes meant like hits to vital parts like the neck or the hearth, but for the dog to acquire such title he must have been kin to killing this past few weeks. The wind brushed against the leaves of the canopy ever so slightly, the sound of crickets and birds surrounded him. Jack focused on his thoughts and tried to leave his mid blank, an image of his brother smiling flashed in his mind but quickly disappeared, the mermaid''s eyes staring at him stook some time longer before he dismissed the memory. this process repeated until his mind reached the deeper and darker corners of his mind. memories of war from when he was in the Marines some good ten years ago.
Darkness surrounded him. A distant echoing sound of water dripping could be heard resonating all around him as the darkness started to morph and soon he found himself in the middle of a place that he vaguely recalled, some village in Iraq. Behind him there was a destroyed fountain that used to be the center of the town square, now reduced to rubble. Shots could be heard in the distance as he started to walk towards the conflict, he looked around him, the buildings where heavily damaged, he could not see what or who was inside the houses but occasionally he would find pairs of red dots observing him from the shadows. It was dark all around him, like being in the middle of a incomplete memory, he guessed it was night after looking at the sky and seeing the milky way in all its might and power, but he could not place where he exactly was in the memory, he could not find himself and he did not really wanted to but something was driving him there. He observed how two black hawks flew over him shooting their 50 cals and rockets towards their enemy, and the familiar sound of the M1 Abrahams firing in the distance could be singled out from between the distant rain of fire. Like being dragged against his will he floated towards a street where the main conflict was happening, US soldiers where taking cover while receiving heavy fire, shouting orders and trying to retaliate from the ambush they been caught in. Around a hundred yards away their enemies where barricaded inside a four stories apartment building, a jet could be heard flying over their heads, the A-10 opened fire on the building while doing multiple fly overs, the bullets sparked with each impact and the characterizing "BRTTTTTTTTTT!" like sound echoed through the streets while the soldiers ceased fire to cheer "THE CHAVALARY IS HERE BABY!" screamed the men while laughing. The M1 Abrahams fired a couple of times to where their enemies where hiding and the front half of the building collapsed leaving a big cloud of dust behind. "I remember now, this is Karbala" said Jack while walking towards where him and his team where. After walking though a wall like a ghost he found himself in a room, a native man tied down to a char while being """questioned""" surrounded by soldiers in face masks, he knew who each of the men in the room where, and he knew who he was. "Where is Mohammed Ail Yesir?" asked one of the soldiers in some Arabic language while sparking some car clamps that where connected to a power source, he knew well how this is was going to end. A human that seemed made out of shadows and smoke was standing next to him, was he there the whole time and he just noticed now? He looked like a store manikin, the being had no defined features except his bright red eyes that scanned the room. "Who are you?" asked Jack the shadow who turned around and looked at him "Its time to wake up" said the shadow with a deep resonating voice as if the being was being drowned before the steel door that lead to the room was blown off its hinges by a huge explosion.
While recovering consciousness Jack could hear a sound in the distance, something was making a huge fuss around him. A few seconds later he realized it was Bosco Barking at him. Jack extended his arm and petted the Dog. Something caught his attention, his thick wood bark arm guards where starting to sprout, and small flexible vines crawled on top of his skin connecting them to the other pieces of armor, while something resembling black smoke seemed to pour out of his pores. Jack checked his status immediately

14: Demonic Rooster of Doom "We have been studying the effects of the Werewolf Disease for close to two decades now. It is clear that the bite of a Werewolf will cause the disease to infect the Human bitten if he survives long enough to see another full moon. Whether its magic or some other cause this is true regardless of what we tried, once you are bitten there is no cure. Surprisingly enough no other animal or Beast suffers from this disease, from chickens to a rare Minotaur that the Society of Medicine and Research provided for us not a single one of them has shown to inherit the Werewolf strain. Only humanoids such as Humans, Elves, Orc variants... can get infected. Intelligent Bipedal being are cursed in this way." - Notes from Dr.Velgfast, Honorary member of The Society of Medicine and Research from Letterport
Aedith and Ghelen have been running though the forest for an unknown amount of time. they where both crying, the younger boy more than his older sister who managed to get herself together even after what they saw at their village. it was dark in the thick forest, even with their Dark vision, the boy''s foot got locked under some tree roots and he tripped, diving face down in to the forest floor, his sister keep running only to turn around and look at Aedith who was not getting up, laying still crying on the floor. "Hghene Ulufier!" [get up!] she shouted in old Elvish "Ourute Mudilane Telumine Un Tun Ghenim Tun Theem Merimadone!" [Our mother told us to get to the mermaid territory!] she said said while picking his brother by the shoulders who still had limp legs as she dragged him long the way while he cried "Hghene Ulufier Aedith!" [Get up Aedith!] she said while shaking him to make him come back to his senses. but he passively refused. tired she let him have his way and dropped him on the floor while sitting under a tree. he cried for a few minutes until he realized what what going on. "Whul Huegen?" [what happened] he asked while sniffing his nose. he was still in shock from what they experienced before. he did not remembered the raid on the village, how their mother shoved them to the back door and told them to run and ask asylum with the mermaid tribe that lived in the Giant Lake two days down the river that feed the lake, the river was neutral territory. "Whenfur Nefure Tun Guttik Mugere" [we need to get moving] said Ghelen before helping her brother up and dragging him deeper down the forest towards the river when they got interrupted by some rumbling in the forest around them "shhh" [shhh] Ghelen said while putting her index finger on her lips signaling her brother to be quiet. they ducked down and hide in a crack between the log and the floor from a near by fellen down tree.
When jack returned to the river edge his brother was practicing archery or so it seemed, he had his bow in his hands and was shooting wooden tipped arrows to a small tree stump they cut down a few days back. it was a little bit thinner than a human torso, making it perfect for practice. Jack suspected that his brother had learned some fire magic since the tree stump was now on fire. "Hey there" said Brandon while putting the bow down. Brandon''s face expression went to confusion and then he shrugged "your eyes are emerald green, also they are glowing..." Jack took out his phone and tried to use the light of the sun to watch himself in the black mirror that his phone screen was now. the phone lost his battery long time ago, but if he did not carried it in his pocket he had this feeling like he had forgotten or lost something so he just carried it with him Anyways "yea... i got a new title, also unlocked the well of power and some other shit" Jack brushed off his eye color change. they already knew this things where possible thanks to Bosco so it did not startle them much. "what about you?" asked jack while watching the tree stump on fire "check this out" said Brandon with a smile before knocking an arrow, taking a few seconds to whisper something in a very low voice, the words where carried by the air with a golden orange color before they lodged to the wooden arrow, a pattern of golden glowing watermarks surrounded the shaft of the arrow and Brandon released the shot. It lodged in the tree trunk and immediately a fire stream emerged from where the tip touched the wood, it reminded Jack of a blow torch. the fire stream finished after around 10 seconds and the arrow was fully covered in fire by that time. "nice" Jack muttered while acknowledging with his head. "even though it looks like the fire is being projected to the outside its the opposite way, this is just the ricochet of the flames against the wood, imagine what kind of damage it would do to a living creature" Said Brandon with anticipation glowing inside his eyes to test his new magic skill on some monster "now check this out" Brandon raised his free hand and casted Flamethrower towards the tree stump, a thin but long and twisted fire stream projected from his palm engulfing the tree stump in fire. he kept the spell for good 15 seconds before stopping the cast. "cool right?" Jack noted that Brandon was overjoyed while showing his abilities. "only down side to your projectile skill is that we lose an arrow each time its casted. besides that i think it will do huge damage to anything it hits" Jack said while sitting down on some rick that worked as a makeshift chair. "I know we had plans to go hunting monsters today, but this whole ordeal took too much time. we will try tomorrow. for now lets just eat and rest, its the safe..." Jack''s attention shifted to Bosco, who was now on his feet with his fur erected as a porcupine, he was gowning towards the wooded area across the river. "lets go" Said jack while picking up his spear and shield and walking towards the rocks near the small waterfall close to their camp, intending to cross to the other riverside. Brandon grabbed his quiver and followed him after adjusting his wooden facemask/helmet, Bosco lead the way with a light trot towards where the danger was.
Ghelen pushed Aedith back deeper down inside the hole they where hiding. the Cockatrice was tearing the rotten wood with it''s claws, it was only a matter of time before they where snatched by the hocked fangs and eaten. Aedith pulled his sister''s shirt and whispered something to her but she only caught a glimpse of what he meant between the loud scratches of the Cockatrice tearing up the tree truck, something related to an exit, Ghelen turned around and saw that her brother had digged out a small opening between the tree and the soft forest earth. they both crawled out and kept pressed against the floor to not be seen by the beast. they reached some underbrush and kept prone for a while before crouching up and leaving silently but walking fast towards the river bank. They heard a Screech and realized that the cockatrice figured out that they had escaped, the crouch transformed in to a sprint and they dashed deeper inside the woods. They could hear a hard rumbling behind them, getting closer. the Cockatrice was well fed. A quadrupedal chicken/horse mix, with wings strong and long enough to hit you even 5 yards away and break the bones of grown up man. covered in feathers and with a sharp beak it followed the scent of the two kids before it caught up. Ghelen looked back and saw the monster gaining on her and her bother. She regretted looking back when she tripped on something and fell down to the ground with a thud, she rolled on the floor and looked at her closing on doom. Aedith turned around and screamed something she could not hear, all her senses focused on the monster''s beak, getting closer and closer. She covered her face with her arms and waited for the inevitable impact and pain she was about to suffer eaten alive. And she waited. and waited, seconds flew by seeming longer than usual thanks to the adrenaline pumping through her veins the impact never came. Ghelen opened a small gap between her fore arms and looked in front of her. She saw a male Humanoid standing in front of her, he was covered in wood and it looked alive, covering himself and her with a shield made of a single carved pice of tree trunk, he trusted with his spear over him while shouting something in common tongue before bashing the head of the beast to the side with the shield. She could see the cockatrice now. it had lost its wings, both of them ripped out from their shoulder blades. a Black beast that reminded her of what Worgs where described as was holding them. it had stab wounds all around its front from the spear trusts, the blood flowing down tainted the white feathers of the Cockatrice crimson. It screeched before raising on its back feet, preparing to bash the Woodenman in front of Ghelen. the cockatrice dived down, with a half step the Woodenman stepped back and parried the beak of the bast barely dodging the tallows in its feet. the stone spear shaft bent with each passing second but the man refused to give up, the beak getting closer he shouted again, before an arrow struck its side around the chest. a flame stream emerged from the wound immediately and the beast twisted on It''s feet, the Wooden man was tackled by some other person and pushed out of the way, both of them falling down to the ground. The cockatrice vomited cauterized blood and pieces of flesh while being dragged back by the Worg like beast that had gotten hold from its back legs. before you could blink a stream of fire emerged from its mouth before both the beast and the fire started to die down. she realized that the arrow shaft was now covered in flame and the side of the beast was burning down because of the feathers that caught fire from where the arrow impacted. that was the last she remembered before she passed out.
Jack was face down on the Forest floor. he turned around swiftly to find Brandon around his waist height. "hey man you ok?" Jack asked while shaking his Brother, who was unresponsive. he turned his head and confirmed that the demonic rooster of doom was dead, He saw Bosco struggling while severing the Beasts head, he exhaled loudly. Brandon was still unresponsive. Jack examined his brother to find out where the beast had hurt him. The lower back of his brother had a gaze, not longer than a pencil, and very shallow, yet the flesh around it was starting to harden, taking on a grayish color. Brandon coughed and groaned when he was spinned around on his back. "your spear will not break, and the beast will not kill the kids, i will be the one turning to stone." he coughed a few times before breathing heavily. "so you do remember about your dreams" Jack said with a sorrowful smile on his face, his brother''s head on his lap. "i did not wanted to startle you, that is why i pretended to not remember" said Brandon before spitting some blood to the side. "take the kids and go, i don''t think i can make it" Jack clenched his his jaw until he felt the flavor of blood that was now emanating from his gums. The author''s content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. "Don''t worry, I will fix this" Jack left his brothers side and went towards the Elf girl who the other kid was trying to wake up. The Kid recoiled as Jack approached only to shield the female with his body immediately after. "Ime wenn nate leia yume huneng hir!"[I will not let you hurt her!] the Boy screamed in Old Elvish before throwing punches to Jacks waist witch he ignored as they bounced away without hurting. "My brother is turning to stone, do you know if there is a cure?" Jack stared down a the kid as he spoke in a slow and serious manner, the kid looked up with red eyes and then spoke "Elder in village know healing magic, he can help" Jack recognized that broken common tongue. it was similar to the one used by the Goblin a few weeks back. "To the village we go then" Jack turned and picked up his brother in a fireman carry. Bosco trotted towards the the small girl and licked her face, she woke up and screamed for a few seconds trying to crawl away fro him, but before she could do so she started laughing from the ticking made by this tongue. Jack turned and faced the girl from the distance "witch way is your village?" his now emerald glowing eyes stared at the girl. sheer focus on his mind and clear purpose, even though deep down he was scared. 15: Siegfried Stormbound [interlude] "The Dwarf is a beast, cursed by God. The Mountain Dwarf is a race of beast even below any other, they are the lowest animals, kill on sight" - Extract from The Book of Travels of Gullvert The Wonderer.
Siegfried Stormbound Walked down the great hall of the Highland Clan. in the middle of the room a large table was being set for the upcoming feast. He whistled and sang with each step catching the attention of the women preparing the celebration, some of the younger ones blushed as he looked at them, only to walk away quickly, Siegfried was a known Womanizer, He stopped singing to released an evil laugh loudly and chased after a few of them playfully who yelped as asking for help while running away from him. He laughed again and kept walking to where his father was seated. "The maiden Walks, so does The Wolf, they stare, they watch, they both belong, in a mans heart." He continued the song by whistling a tune, emphasizing each word with a different note. Siegfried was a young man, Broad shoulders covered in thick wavy blonde hair. He was what females considered handsome, he had a good facial structure and a wide and pronounced jawline, dressed in his armor and with a sword on his hip he approached a man that was sitting on a big wooden chair with carved out beast heads decorating it. The man looked like an aged version of Siegfried, lines on his face and gray hairs on his beard showed the tool time had taken on his father''s image. "As always you come in to my halls and make a big fuss about it" the man said in an annoyed tone. "You know me well father" Siegfried exclaimed with a smile before snatching a pice of fruit from a basket that a woman was carrying to the table next to him "I''m done with your games. This was the last time i will alow it. After the feast, Tomorrow you will chose a wife from the women that you had bedded so far. Your mother though it appropriate to grant you a log cabin against my council. You will reside in the northern part of the village. as far away from here as i can..." Before the man could finish Siegfried interrupted him "No" the single word resonated along the hall, everyone stopped working and looked at the man standing in front of the Patriarch of the Clan "Then you will be choosing Exile" The older man said calmly. "So be it" Siegfried turned around and started walking away, a small smile appeared in his fathers lips but he could not see it. Siegfried had expected this encounter to turn out this way. it was not a surprise that his father despised him. He picked up the Rust sack he had left near the entrance of the Great Hall and put it on after he covered himself with a thick fur coat. The giant doors that where at the entrance of the Hall opened with a loud sound and he was hit in the face with wind and snow, the storm had picked up once again and even though they still had many hours of light the sky was of a dark gray color. Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator. He ignored the people on the streets and walked down the main road, heading out from the Highland Clan once and for all.
Siegfried opened his eyes, it was Dawn, and the first lights where starting to creep out in the sky, he got up and feed the fire that had died down in front of him. As he sat and warmed himself up he though about why he was dreaming about the time when he was driven away from his birthplace. Shortly after he picked up his sleeping sack and rolled it neatly before tying it down under his old but trusty travel backpack. He took a few seconds to appreciate the beauty of the nature of the South before getting back on his trail. The footprints where still fresh even after his power nap, he''s been hired to hunt down a group of deserters that ran away from the front lines, a small company of around a dozen privates leaded by a combat mage that had enough of the war. If it was just a group of privates deserting he doubted that The Kingdom of Veggrfields would have given a shit about it, it happened all the time, they would just put a bounty on the solder''s heads and be done with it. but Battle Mages where a rare commodity and they where kept under a short leash to safeguard the secrets of the mage guilds. This he concluded was the reason they reached out to him so quickly and sent him this way, with one objective, kill the mage and the soldiers since the guilds did not knew if he had revealed anything to the others. Better be sure than sorry. Siegfried did not liked walking around the woods, it was savage territory, and Things like Orcs did not treated their captives in an humane way. Other creatures lurked the undisturbed nature, things that even he did not wanted to encounter. He never been This deep in to the Wild, he though as he trailed quickly after the tracks left by the soldiers. He''s been walking under the cover of trees for almost a week, he gained a lot of distance on the deserters the past few days but he still guessed they where a day ahead of him. maybe if he pushed it he could find them and kill them all by tomorrow. And be back in the capital by next month. The fat sack of gold he would claim with this job will be enough to pay for the brothels and bars for the next 3 months even if he went wild throwing coin left and right since this was a job for a small group of bounty hunters, but none where available at the moment, the ones that where refused the job since not many accept to do Mages especially one from the Arkius Guild. Siegfried did not cared for Mages, and since he was alone the Kingdom has promised him a fat bonus if he completed the job. His mouth watered anticipating the taste of sweet wine and beautiful women. His large frame ducked under a small tree branch as he continued to jog lightly still paying attention to his surroundings, Overconfidence was the greatest killer of them all, and he was not planing to die yet. 16: Raid "The time has come. the hunting party will most likely find The Beast of Northingham, it only comes out at night, hunting down on lone women who walk the streets. Word has been kept secret about this beast to not cause panic between the population. But we are sure that this trap will work. now we can only pray. the Sergeant of the City watch has decided to join the Party. A skilled warrior or Noble descent. If he can''t slay the beast i doubt we will find someone that can." - Douglas Feathers Major of Northingham
Jack lowered Brandon and laid him against a tree who was breathing heavily, the Petrification effect had covered most of his back and now was creeping around his waist. Looking down at the village that was situated in a clearing near the woods, one of the houses was on fire illuminating the scenery in front of him, The village folk where gathered in the middle, most of them kneeling down, they seemed to have surrendered and became captive. a man in metal armor that shined with the nearby flames was tying their hands behind their back, another armored man held a child by the hair and had a sword against his neck, threatening to kill the child if anyone moved as a man with a long robe walked around with a wooden staff examining the prisoners. The population of the village was not numerous since this was a border outpost, maybe 30 in total, the number of houses was half of that, a small wooden fence that was there to keep animals away failed to protect them from the human raiders who simply jumped over it. Bodies laid around the floor, a couple of Elven males one of which was blasted in half by something, his wounds reminded Jack of IED victims from back in Iraq, five humans with armor laid lifelessly on pools made out of their own blood, getting colder each second passed. As the house burned a man was laughing historically while watching it. Jack had no time to waste, but he also knew how it would end if he charged in mindlessly. even with Bosco he had little chance of defeating all the man at the same time, he studied the scenery, out of desperation he had an idea, it was a poor plan but it probably would work. now that the sun had set down, darkness was his ally. After telling the kids to look after his brother Jack creeped down towards the village. the Pyromaniac was walking around the house that was burning, talking to himself he did not heard or even expected Jack approaching him. The bayonet pierced trough the back of his neck and emerged tinted red from the front, between his chest plate and helmet the blade stopped the man from making any sound as he gaged on blood. Jack dragged the man away from the fire and deep down inside the darkness of the woods.
Siegfried reached the forest edge and observed the deserters, he had suspected that something like this could happen, the now newly formed group of bandits found a savage village out of sheer luck and decided to raid it. most likely they would try to sell the captives to some slave trader. With 20 healthy Elves a group of a dozen bandits could probably live of their earnings for close to a year. Elven females sold for a high price in the black markets, and the males where no difference, nobles and rich merchants payed good coin to satisfy their weird tastes, now that the group of bandits was halfen they would enjoy more coin per head. Siegfried looked at the mage who was walking around inspecting the newly acquired merchandise, he raised the head of a young Elf and made him look him in the eyes, a naughty smile rose on his lips as the young Elf looked away disgusted, a Private approached the Mage slowly. He adjusted the grip around his battleaxe, the bandits would spend the night here, most likely he could sneak in and kill the Mage in his sleep before he could cast any spells, dealing with the melee Fighters will be easy, but log range destructive spells where a trade mark from the Arkius Guild, he could not afford for a fight head on with the group even now that they where almost half their original numbers. He gasped as he saw the Private approaching the mage stab him the back. then pick up his spear and stab the Solder holding the child in the side of the chest, between the gap of the chest and back plate, who released the kid and tried to swing his sword towards the attacker without use since he was clearly out out reach. the soldier that was tying the Elves drew his sword and charged the Spearman only to get his head snatched away by a shadow moving with the wind. a Worg like creature held the head that still blinked for a few seconds not understanding what happened as its now severed body fell down to the ground lifelessly. The two remaining soldiers immediately turned around and ran towards the woods. Siegfried did not knew why this was happening, but he welcomed it, now he only had to kill two of them and his work will be done. He dashed around the forest edge without never coming out in the open and exposing that he was there, cutting out the retreat of the solders. As he caught up with one of them he buried his battleaxe in his chest, the heavy and sharp pice of metal dived down going past the chest plate, he pressed his foot against the chest of the soldier and retrieved his Axe, a loud sound like a Ripe melon being split in half could be heard as the blade of the axe exited the gape that formed the chest of the soldier, he did not even need to use his Battle arts to take down this fools. Siegfried looked towards where the other solder was running but he was not there. A loud sound of the soldeir''s neck breaking could be heard, Siegfried looked down and saw the Pitch black Wrog staring at him while twisting the solder''s neck, Its maws released the now dead soldier''s body. Siegfried grabbed his Axe with both of his hands, preparing for a clash with the beast. A cold sweat covered his back, he never heard the beast approaching, deathly silent. The Beast licked the blood around his snout, it smelled the air for a few seconds before sneezing in a cute manner, all aggression gone in the blink of an eye, the Worg disappeared in to the darkness of the forest. Siegfried exhaled, all tension released from him the moment the beast stopped projected any more killing intent towards him. he grabbed two corpses and lifted the left sleeves of each one, a tattoo with a number could be seen on their forearm, he skinned the corpses, as always with extermination missions you need Prof that you have completed the job. After folding and storing the now thin pieces of skin in a leather pouch he headed down towards the village. he at last needed the Mage''s staff to prove he was dead. and he knew that he probably could reason with the Elves. Or at least he hoped so.
Jack undid the leather straps that held the armor he used to impersonate a solder and get closer to the Raider that looked like the mage that blasted the Elf in half. definitely the most dangerous individual of the group and the one that seemed in charge, while others worked he strut around examining the captives as if he was checking on apples at the market place. After cutting a few of the Elves free he went back to the forest and picked up his brother. A woman charged down and hugged the kids while crying relived and talking in Elvish with the kids, all three of them talked at the same time, he did not understood her words but he knew what they meant with them. "Not to interrupted, but my brother is becoming petrified, the children told me that someone here could help" Jack said while looking at the woman who kissed her kids in the head "Yes we can help, and Thank you." the Adult Elvish woman wiped her tears away with her hands and guided them down towards the village. The group of villagers that where now freed from their bounds worked on extinguishing the fire that covered the house that was burning down. Jack ignored the stares he got as he entered a house the woman instructed him, he laid Brandon on a bed that was set against a wall. his brother was unconscious now, only groaning in pain each time he was moved. After a few seconds a woman followed by an adult Elvish male entered the house. "thank you for helping us" the man bowed his head while saying his words, after that he quit his formalities and approached Brandon examining him thoroughly. he whispered some words and a light emanated form his hands. "if you had brought him a few hours later the petrification would have reached his heart killing him. He will recover in a few days" said the Elf while massaging the stone covered flesh with his glowing hands. "thank you" Jack said and was interrupted by someone screaming outside historically, Jack picked up his Spear and exited the House, grinding his teeth annoyed for being bothered now that he had a moment to rest. 17: Drunk on Elvish wine "May my arrow hit where you will them Lord, God will always guide my hand" -Common prayer said by the Archer Corps.
Jack exited though the door and looked at the cause of the commotion, for some reason he initially suspected Bosco to be the one scaring around the locals. He was mistaken. A blonde man was walking down towards the village from the woods. Jack walking towards him, he noticed that Bosco was following him, he did not knew when did the dog started to do so but he was glad to count with his help, at around 10 yards Jack stopped so did the Blonde man. "you with them?" Asked jack while holding tightly to his spear and shield ready to start fighting at the first glance of aggression. the Blonde man smiled and shook his head side to side "I''m here for them" the Blonde man reached inside his coat, which made Jack raise his shield and spear defensively, the man just raised his hand slowly as to calm them down. "this is an... extermination request, for the Deserters, you can confirm it yourself" The blonde man held an envelope in his hand, Jack did not wanted to trust this man, but he doubted he could verify his story himself. Word traveled quickly and before their stand off had time to finish, the man that was healing his brother had exited the house and approached the two Humans. "i guess that he is not with you" The Elf looked at Jacks raised Shield and Spear "What business you have with this village?, speak now!" ordered the Elf in an authoritarian voice.
Jack sat in front of the blonde man, After the Elf who he suspected was the village head or at least a person with authority confirmed the man''s story he allowed him to enter and collect the items he needed to confirm the deaths of the deserters. they where now sitting under a tarp tent the Elves have erected to accommodate the guests, a table separated the two man who looked at each other trying to estimate each other''s strength. "We did not had the time yet, They call me Siegfried Stormbound" Said the blond man while putting his right hand over his hearth "Jack Callahan, sleeping there is Brandon Callahan, and that is Bosco" Jack said while rightly pointing at his brother and the dog without taking his eyes away from Siegfried. "You also have family names, and your companion is quite interesting" Said Siegfried while drinking down the wine gifted to them by the Elves for saving the village. "Elven wine is best" he said while poring himself another cup "Do people around this lands usually don''t have a Last name?" Jack asked while taking a small sip from his cup. It was red wine, after moving his tongue around his mouth savoring the remaining of the wine in his mouth he came to a conclusion, it tasted great, a light grape flavor with light tones of cherry and flower petals, easy on the tongue and pleasant, it had a refreshing note to it, maybe some ingredient he could not discern, and it had a low alcohol content, at least half of what Earth wine had, maybe around 6% alcohol Vol, He raised his cup and drank until he was satisfied and exhaled loudly in satisfaction, it definitely was a fine wine. "Around this lands?" Siegfried said with a smile on his face "I would not know, i never ventured this far in to the Savag... Unconquered territory" Jack noticed that the man corrected his words, midway, maybe he did not wanted to offend the locals. "But for humans to have a last name as you call it, usually means that you where born in to nobility" Siegfried downed another cup quickly. "Are you a Noble?" Jack asked But Siegfried shook his head indicating that jack was mistaken "I''m an Exile, I do not belong to any House. My name was given to me by my mother. Helga Sormbearer, She was given such name after... well lets say i was an unruly kid when growing in her belly, She bared the storm inside of her and when i was born, i was named Stormbound. Usually names like this are a bad Omen, but i consider myself lucky so far" Siegfried raised his cup and Wished health to his mother where ever she was. "Does the Name Callahan means anything?" "I Would not know, it was the Last name of my father, we where given it when we where born, as is the custom of my people, but The same as you, we are not nobles" Jack shrugged at the question. "So why are you exiled?" Jack wanted to know if this man was a criminal of some sort. "such personal questions so early in the night" Siegfried laughed while saying "lets make a deal, i tell you my story and you do the same, it is only right" he downed another cup before beginning to talk.
His story was quite simple and disappointing in fact, He was born and raised to the rulers of the Highland Clan from the mountain ridges of the north. For some reason his father who was the patriarch of the village despised him, this made Siegfried become a trouble making teenager, getting in to fights and courting females of marriageable age. After years of messing around his father had enough when a young girl that was supposed to be untouched and was a week away from getting married to his younger brother revealed that she had sleep with him. His father gave him an ultimatum. Since then Siegfried had roamed the southern Kingdoms working as a mercenary and gaining quite the reputation, in the capital he was known as the "The Golden Giant" or "The Walking Storm". When Siegfried mentioned that he was called "The Golden Giant" he finally caught up with a fact that flew over his head the first time he meet the man, He was at least a head taller than Jack who topped at 6''4", and he was muscular, maybe a 100 pounds heavier than Jack. He was a free spirit in a twisted sort of way, taking pride in completing his jobs with deadly efficiency and then whoring his money away. Along the night he told more anecdotes about the women he had fucked than about the fights he''s been in. When it was Jacks turn to speak he chose his words carefully, he did not lied, but also did not told the entire truth just like he suspected Siegfried did. "so you both got Teleported to this world?" Siegfried''s face was blushing from all the wine they had drank so far, he had a small hiccup before he kept drinking, three wine pots down he undid the Wax seal of the forth one and poured himself another cup. "That is quite the story. And you call that beast of yours a "Dog" " Siegfried rubbed his chin "It looks like a Worg, but those things are Feral, and i never seen one tamed" Siegfried looked at the Dog who was sleeping, a half eaten bone laid in front of him. "ether way, since you where the one that killed the Mage and a few of the deserters you are entitled for part of the reward" Siegfried commented while holding the Mage''s staff. "If you come with me to the capital, i will give you half of the Coin I''m supposed to receive for proving their deaths" Jack was drunk but he was not stupid, A person doing such a thing out of pure kindness was rare, it raised suspicion. "And why would you do that?" jack said while rocking slightly on his chair, he was feeling a bit dizzy, he never used to drink heavily, and now his vision was beginning to blur. "Don''t get me wrong Jack, I don''t think that you are naive, and you are doing the right thing by not fully trusting me, same as i don''t fully trust you" Siegfried''s voice and tone had lost all of its drunkness and he was now looking at Jack in serious manner "When i was a kid my father was an asshole, but he was never a bad man. When I was young, I hated his iron will and his unbreakable code of honor. If i managed to convince a village girl to sleep with me why should i shy away from it, if i was able to steal the liquor from the cellar why should i not drink it? If i was offended by someone why should i not break his arms in retaliation? But that a different Siegfried, one that did not believed in the teachings of The Wolf, one that never farseeing consequences. I''m a different man now" when he spoke he looked away at the canvas tent wall, Jack seen this look many times. The 1000 yard stare. "I''m not a kid anymore, experience had taught me that if you do good things, The Wolf will chase the Evil away and will lead the good towards you through the dark night" Siegfried sighted and finished his cup of wine and started to unfold his sleeping bag on the floor on the opposite side of the tent to where Brandon was recovering. "The Wolf. Is he like your god?" Jack asked while finishing his cup before starting to prepare his bed also. "no like my god, he is a god, like many others, he teaches many things, if you pray long and hard enough he might even guide you to the other side when your life on this world ends" Siegfried paused. He looked over his shoulder and meet Jack''s eyes "i have seen him. Maybe one day you will do so as well" He blew out the oil lamp nearby him and covered himself with the sleeping bag facing the Canvas. Jack turned off the Oil lamp near him and the Tent was covered in darkness. He was to dizzy to lay down, he had a feeling that if he did he would puke out most of the whine he drank that night, He thought about what the man had told him. Did he believed in God? after all that he saw during the war? he did not had an answer, his mind kept wondering about his conversation with the Blonde man, on the distance he heard some quiet whimpers, as if someone that was trying to hide the fact that he was crying. Maybe this man was not as two dimensional as Jack initially thought. He laid down and closed his eyes, his drunken stupor took over him and he drifted in to a dreamless dark sleep.
In the lowest Level of an underground Dungeon the floor was covered in a bright purple liquid. The Calm surface of the liquid started to be disturbed by an vibration. A heavy rumbling resonated around the room from deep inside the galleries, couple of stones on the ceiling detached and fell inside the liquid making a deep "gulp" like sound effect. The earthquake intensified and the walls of the chambers began to crack quickly before transforming in to wide gaps, the Level of the liquid lowered at a quick pace revealing a Lone figure chained to the middle of the room. Twisted horns and spikes protruded from the monster''s body, it spit some liquid out and gasped for air. The gasps turned in to Demonic screams that resonated deep inside the dungeon''s hallways, the chains Holding It prisoner snapped with a metallic sound, one by one they broke releasing the Long forgotten beast from their holdThis story originates from Royal Road. Jack was woken up by Bosco''s growling, a small stream of light peeked through the flap that worked as a door in their canvas tent. His tried to get up but sharp pain shoot trough his head, wine hangovers where the worst, he did not understood how soccer mums from back on earth could withstand this torture, but he remembered why he did not liked to drink. The dog Barked multiple times at the air waking up the other two men who where still sleeping. "Shit" Siegfried said while massaging the bridge of his nose, still laying down on the floor, he suffered from the same kind of illness as Jack did. Jack realized he needed to take a leak and forced himself to stand on his feet. he exited the tent and ventured away towards the public restrooms of the village. the bathrooms where clean and fancy, the inside decorated in a similar fashion as the houses, but at the end it was still a hole in the ground, the small room was packed with flowers and aromatic herbs trying to mask the smell of shit, truly it had an honorable intent, but it was not fully effective since you could still pick up the smell. After finishing his minor business he exited the structure and headed back towards the tent with his eyes half closed trying to get as little light between his eyelids as possible. each step was followed by what felt like a sharp stab in the middle of his brain. he saw the Canvas on the distance some good 100 yards away, he walked slowly when he felt it. The ground started to shake, almost impossible to notice at first it gained strength. "earthquake, fuck!" he muttered while getting away from the buildings near by in case the houses would collapse. He never been in an earthquake before but this one must have been a strong one. in fact strong enough to make him go airborne a few times for the fraction of a second. he saw some beams collapse on the house that burned down the night before, but he already knew that that house was empty. When the earthquake stopped he looked around. Elves where emerging from their houses, looking around scared, some of them screamed in Old elvish to their neighbors, others where carrying their kids on their arms. Jack just looked a the tent in which his brother was sleeping. it was still standing on its feet, he saw the dog exiting and looking around smelling the air. He manned up and ignored his hangover, walking faster towards the tent. After entering he found Siegfried holding his battleaxe, he was dressed and ready for fighting. Jack picked up his spear and shield and Brandon groaned silently while he joined them, still not fully recovered they exited the tent. "Earthquake or some giant monster?" asked Brandon while knocking an arrow on his bow "felt like an Earthquake, but who knows. do this happen often here?" Jack asked Siegfried who was not paying attention to him, looking at the sky "i never felt anything like this before" He answered a few seconds later Bosco Was Snarling towards the tent and they all turned around too look at what startled him. Everything seemed normal for the first few seconds but then the tent collapsed and a swarm of undead charged them in a clumsy way. Siegfried immediately swinged his battleaxe almost severing a zombie vertically from head down his torso. he kicked the lifeless body lodged to his Axe before muttering "impossible..." while looking at the zombies in fear "Fuck!" Brandon cursed as his arrow missed the head of a zombie and flew past him impacting on the chest of different one doing zero damage to the lifeless body. Bosco''s maws lodged on the knee of one of the undead and the dog pulled the monster to the floor before tearing its head out and disposing of it before launching at another one. Jack rested his spear on top of his tower shield and trusted aiming for the eye socket of the closest undead. his trust was a bit low and it impacted on its neck, the zombie advanced without flinching. he pressed forwards, as jack took a few steps back and adjusted his thrusts finally managing to land a critical hit to the brain of the monster he hard some whispering The zombie mage or lower lich as he would be described later on was casting some spell. "get down" Jack dived to the side while tackling Brandon in the process. A bolt of purple Death energy impacted on the earth behind Jack carving a small tunnel before bouncing of the floor and flying away in to the forest, if he did not dived down at that exact moment he would most likely be dead now. A zombie aproached them and Jack used his arm as a shield, the wooden armguard did not gave in under the pressure created by the zombie''s jaws, but the monster did not cared, he closed his teeth together with a stronger bite, some of his teeth cracked other straight up dislodged from his rooting gums. Jack kicked the zombie away with his leg and crawled away while helping his brother out. Bosco had killed three zombies by now, Siegfried was dealing with another three at the same time, he moved with skill and grace, almost defying what you would expect from a man of his size, his axe shined with a golden glow as he cut another zombie in half without effort. that left four of them and the Lich focused on him and his brother Jack used the back of his spear and raised to his feet. "kill the mage, ill distract them, i cover you" said jack before launching his spear towards the Lich, who was casting another spell. The spear impacted on his chest and perforated a lung, interfering with the words the lich was speaking, the incomplete spell backfired and exploded around the Mage severing one of his arms in the process and launching him to the ground. Jack used all of his strength and willpower and used his shield to try to hold the zombies back away from his brother who now had a charged FireStream arrow on his bow "Now!" Screamed Brandon. Jack shield bashed the zombies in front of him startling them and then ducked down. less than a second later an arrow flew over his head and impacted the Lich on the chest who was trying to get up from the floor in a clumsy manner. The lich screamed as fire tore trough his chest and he fell to the ground after a gaping hole of around 4 inches in diameter was burned out by the firestream. Brandon tried to cast Flamethrower but a sharp pain rose from his side, he instinctively bent down and groaned in pain. Jack had seconds to act, he took out his bayonet and stabbed a zombie in his gaping open moth, he was holding it back by the neck with the edge of the shield. three zombies left. he thought. He used his boxing foot work and worked his way around the zombie group driving them away from his injured brother, bashing one with his shield he heard a crack and saw the head of the zombie twist in an unnatural manner revealing a deep cut on his neck that reached the bone, probably a wound from the raid the night before. Two zombies. he dived under the extended arms of one of the undead and used his foot to trip it over making him land on the floor. with a quick pace he approached the last zombie standing and brushed his arms away to the side with a light shield bash, closing on the distance he stabbed the undead on the top of the head with a downward motion, the serrated blade on the back of the knife locked with the skull, and as he struggled to take out his knife he felt a sharp pain on his left ankle. Jack screamed in pain as he let go of the knife and faced the crawling zombie he tripped to the ground a few seconds back. it did not managed to get back on its feet, but i made it close enough to bite him. Jack hit the back of the head and neck of the zombie until it was a dark red mess of brains and fragments of skull. breathing heavily he dropped on his ass and pushed the zombie with the bashed in head away from him. The villagers where screaming and pointing fingers. The Elven Elder rushed the battlefield. Jack wiped the sweat of his forehead with his arm only to feel something sharp and hard lodged in to it, he looked and saw a few of the zombies teeth still encrusted in his wooden armor. "Fuck" he whispered
He was sitting inside a house, a Female Elf was applying some herbal ointment to his ankle and then wrapping it on some clean cloth. she had dark bags under her eyes, probably she did not sleep last night after the raid, and now she had other monsters popping up inside their village. he pitied this people, especially the kids, who knows what kind of trauma they have been subjected to the past few days. Siegfried was walking around the room in circles, he''s been repeating the same thing for the past few minutes "impossible!, this is impossible, Undead have not existed on this world for the past millennia, last time they where seen was back in the old continent, before humans emigrated here. Impossible!" he changed his battle axe to his other hand and kept on with his rant. The village elder was standing in the door frame, he abandoned his working clothes and was now wearing some hardened leather armor and a bow at his back, a short sword on his hip, the three humans did not noticed the Elve entering the room, they all looked his way the moment he spoke "Last recorded instance of Undead appearing in this village was 4 generations ago, the records state around 980 years." the elve sat down and pursed himself some wine and drank, it was still early morning but no one judged his actions, all of them felt like they needed a drink after the fight this morning. "The village hunter and his son had examined the tracks of the Undead. They had emerged from the mass grave that we buried them in last night to make sure the corpses don''t spread diseases. it was only a temporary fix, so the earth covering them was thin, i believe this is what made it possible for them to dig their way out and attack us. for the reason why they focused you. i guess it was because your tent was the closest inhabited structure to the grave." The Elvish man looked tired. he told something to the female tending to the wounds of Jack, she nodded and finished with the dressing before exiting the building and closing the door behind her Seconds passed and the silence made everyone inside the house more and more restless. until the Elder spoke "it was the Earthquake, that is the only explanation i have to this events" he paused and drank from his cup. "something must have awaken on this world, and ether it caused this events or it is only a part of the aftermath." "you think we will see them again?" Siegfried asked as he looked at the Elf "i mean will there be more undead or is this a fluke, a mistake, some rare event that only will happen once" "There is a saying back on our world, If something can go wrong, it will go wrong" Jack clicked his tongue and shook his head not wanting to accept that they will have to deal with undead from now on. his gut told him that they will. "we can not stay here" Brandon said while resting his chin on his fist, his elbow was pressed against his knee, he looked like the statute of The Thinker. "we make it to camp and salvage as much as we can carry" Jack said while standing up slowly, testing his injured foot before limping slowly to where his equipment was laid out on top of a bed. "You never told me where was your camp" The Elvish man looked at Jack from across the room. "there is a waterfall in a river half a day north from here. we are set on the river edge" Jack did not cared to keep their Camp location secret any longer. The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. "interesting" the Even male looked at jack and raised his brows "and you have not had any problems with the... Locals over there?" "If its the mermaids you mean, we meet them once" Brandon said while getting ready to part at the same time as his brother. "talking about that, We might need to visit them before we leave" Jack said without turning around "i would advise otherwise, they are very territorial, and it''s been a miracle so far that you have not been slaughtered by them after trespassing on the river" The Elve spoke slowly "Yea about that..." Jack took out the pendant that he had hanging on his neck hidden by his armor and clothes. "i don''t think it would be appropriate to leave without saying anything considering the circumstances." The elder''s eyes almost pooped out of his eye sockets when he saw the Pendant, he spit some wine he had drank half way and coughed a few times. Siegfried had the dirtiest smile plastered all over his face, Brandon looked at the two natives not understanding the situation "what is it?" He asked confused "You naughty bastard!" Siegfried said with a laugh Spoiler: Spoiler

19: 2 day hike "The mortician got killed this morning, eaten alive by three Undead. The screams apparently commenced right after the earthquake, the Mortician''s helper almost did not make it, he stumbled upon the Copses having a feast and almost got snatched by one. Almodan of the Undead has awoken. We must be weary, so others will follow, a dark times are coming upon us. An Age of terror and Evil that will taint this land with death and misery. The second God War will start in this generation." -Archmage Rebren year 196 of The New Age
When they where leaving the village, the Townsfolk had gathered in the town''s square (or at least what worked as one) and had built two great pyres, to burn the two Elven males killed during the raid a night before. Most of the village was congregated around the two burning corpses and they showed their respects. The Elven Elder had decided that from then on forward they would burn their dead even though the two Elven males did not turned because their bodies where far to destroyed by the Battle mage during the raid they still wanted to make sure. the Elves would try to avoid any possibility that their kin might turn in to Undead, they wanted to make sure. The Elves played a single instrument It reminded Jack some old European Medieval instrument, The hurdy-gurdy. a stringed instrument that produces sound by a hand crank-turned, i reminded Jack of blowpipes mixed with a violin, rosined wheel rubbing against the strings. The wheel functions much like a violin bow, and single notes played on the instrument sound similar to those of a violin. Melodies where played on a keyboard that presses tangents¡ªsmall wedges, typically made of wood¡ªagainst one or more of the strings to change their pitch. Like most other acoustic stringed instruments, it has a sound board and hollow cavity to make the vibration of the strings audible. Jack commented on the fact that Old Elvish singing of the Elves reminded him much to the way people in the Scandinavian countries spoke but Brandon did not answered him, he observed the crying women and children who where mourning their dead.
During the first part of their Voyage everyone was quiet as they traveled along the woods. After that morning when Jack had explained the circumstances involving his Engagement Siegfried keep asking about mermaid pussy. The Elven Elder who''s name was Surthnel decided to join them i their travel down the river, it seemed like the Elves had a non aggression pact with the river mermaids, but they rarely interacted with each other, in fact the peace treaty has been active for the last 250 years, or what was an entire Elven generation. Their life expectancy circled around 300 years. Surprisingly the mermaid''s was almost double that. He said that his father, the predeceasing Village Elder made this deal with them a long time ago, in exchange for something that Surthnel did not specified. Siegfried who was enthusiastic at first to know how sex was with a mermaids had been quiet after learning that no such thing happened, but he insisted in coming with them, again, it seems like seeing such creatures was a rare occurrence, "a rare chance in a life time" explained the blonde warrior. Jack started to suspect that Siegfried was a bit strange (if not insane). Brandon seemed upset from the moment he learned the news about Jack being engaged, his face went from confusion, to anger and ended up in disappointment, Jack had made a mental note to talk more with his Brother, not only they shared blood they also where in this together. not the marriage, but the whole fantasy cluster fuck that surrounded them. After reaching camp they packed their things and left the survival shelter behind. Jack had considered torching it before leaving but it could serve a purpose to someone at some point. also it took them far to much time to built, and now setting it on fire was hard for them. They made a small fire and heated up some food they brought with them from the Elven village. After they finished their food they pressed onward and ended up exceeding the distance they expected to cover that day. Surthnel said that they might make it to the Lake by tomorrow evening before going to sleep. Siegfried stayed a little longer and practiced some Battle arts before hitting the bed while Brandon sat staring at the fire and feeding small branches to it. Jack sat next to him. "what troubles you?" he asked bluntly. "i just cant believe that you did not tell me. i understand that you did not expected such thing and that it fucked with your mind, but not mentioning it... its fucked up Jack." Brandon said while breaking a small branch in half and tossing it in to the fire. "You woke up from a full day in a coma like state, i did not wanted to trouble you, and then it just slipped my mind, at the end there was no point in saying anything any more" Jack excused himself poorly. "what ever" Brandon said as if the excuses bounced off him. Brandon tossed the branches left in his hands to the fire pit and left, Jack stayed and observed the bonfire, Flames danced up and down, stones that they used as benches casted long shadows that flickered left and right with the flames. Jack tossed the rest of the fire wood in to the fire leaving a small bunch for breakfast and sat with his back facing the now raging fire storm around him Darkness, his Shadow was projected on the ground, it moved as if it had its own life. Jack watched his shadow for a while. it was his element, or at least that is what (((Systema))) told him. After a few seconds he corrected himself. His shadow did seem to have its own life, it flickered in an unnatural manner, small tentacles that resembled tongues tried to escape and reach outside the projected darkness. He focused, so far he''s been the tank of the trio, Bosco did quick and devastating damage, Brandon had learned his deadly firestream projectile that save them two times already, he ether had to step up his game of they would end up dead at some point, sooner than later if they take in to account what the Elder Elf said about the River Mermaid tribe. Jack realized something, Darkness was the absence of light, while shadow was his own existence interfering with light, projecting in to the distance, a part of him. he extended his hand, and moved his fingers, the shadow followed along, he almost could see a smile appearing in the dark human shaped.... Thing, no his shadow was not a thing, it was a part of him. Jack rose and picked up his spear and shield, with the bonfire to the left he observed his shadow with the corner of his eyes, with each trust the shadow followed, he repeated the process, trust, cover with the shield, trust, cover, trust cover trustcovertrustcover...
The next morning Brandon woke up and saw Jack practicing with his spear, Surthnel was washing himself in the river and Siegfried was nowhere to be found, until he returned carrying a gutted boar over his shoulder. They had a hearty breakfast of Grilled meat over the fire and continued their journey. During lunch break Jack went and Sparred with Siegfried who promised to give him pointers on how to Create his own Battle Arts. by the time Siegfried returned and finished his Meat Jack was exclaiming something happily. "i managed to get some. Shadow Strike and Shadow Step" Jacks enthusiasm was not shared, Brandon walked away and did not looked at his brother''s new spells, he still could not accept the fact that his brother did not trusted him. after all they been through. Brandon did not liked being a bitch about this whole situation but the trust between him and his brother had a deep stab wound now. and it would take time to heal. Brandon thought about his brother while he walked i the woods surrounding their travel cap, Rage twisted his entrails, he tried to forget about the offense but was not able to. It boiled deep down inside of him, normally he would shrug something like this off knowking how his brother never talked about his time in the marines and such, but deep down inside part of him did not wanted to forgive. he moved his arms and started to gather a big fireball in front of him, picturing that the tree some 20 yards in front of him which reminded Brandon of a Sequoia was his brother, he decided to program that the fireball would explode and expand from the middle on impact feeding on the wood and oxygen around it, after changing it with Magic or Mana as he liked to call it with some magic whispers similar to how he charged his Firestream Projectile it launched, traveling fast in the blink of an eye the fire ball made contact with the tree bark and exploded, Brandon''s blue eyes went wide as the fire expanded and almost reached him, he ducked down and tried to cover but was to late and ended up being launched back with the explosion. Brandon heard the sound of fire and opened his eyes, he was on the floor, after confirming he still had all his limbs he got up and checked around him and feed his well of power with magic by extinguishing the small fires that erupted all around the explosion he caused, it was an easy way to replenish his magic, he only had to absorbed the magical energy created by the burning of organic matter, the fire would die down and be exhausted quickly. He looked at the tree where his fireball spell impacted, chips of wood surrounded the area and there was a big cave in the bottom part of the wood, not enough to bring the tree down, but big enough to erase the existence of a dozen undead on one cast. Brandon was meet half way trough to the river camp by Bosco who licked his hand, He recoiled after he felt the cold touch of the dog''s tongue on his arm. he realized his body temperature was extremely high after testing it with a tree leaf, it steamed the moment he clenched it in his fist. This Fire Element Affinity was changing his body and reacting to his feelings and state of mind, this could be dangerous. Spoiler: Spoiler You might be reading a pirated copy. 20: Never fucking lucky "dont focking tell me how to fucking storm mage and create a blizzard, i been casting category 3 weather magic before you even had pubic hair boi" - Graffity on the walls of a male bathroom inside the Hightower Mage College by Annonimus
They reached the shores of a great lake, if they where not told that it was a lake the brothers would have assumed it was the ocean. As far as their eye sight allowed them they saw water, big waves that reminded Jack of how Lake Michigan sometimes looked hit the shore and foamed. as they wondered around observing the shore the quick and sharp sound of the impact of a Trident that landed only a half inch shy away from Jacks big toe. Jack immediately ducked and covered with his shield, making it face the water of the lake, somehow he turned to shadow and appeared next to Surthnel, whispered something quickly to use Shadow Step once more and cover Siegfried from a projectile. the Trident lodged to the shield and dug deep inside the wood, the sharp tips peeked trough the back side of the shield at the eye level of Jack as they created a crack that traveled vertically "dammit" Jack tried to focus and use his wood symbiosis skill to seal the weak point in his shield, but it was useless. as soon as another trident launched from under the water level and Jack brushed the projectile away with his shield bash the wooden shield collapsed and broke in half "we surrender" Sourthnel spoke while raising his hands. soon after mermaid folk started to emerge from the lake water surface, most of them had annoyed looks, as if the company of humans and the Elven elder had disturbed them in some sort of way. "what business an elf and three humans have with the mermaid tribe?" a male raised and advanced towards them. from waist up he looked like a fish and arms protruded From It''s sides. as he reached the shore and kept walking his body morphed and the top side of his body started to look more and more like a human before a brown haired man stood in front of them. "its going to be a long conversation, might you call for your tribe''s head" Sorthnel said while waving his hand left and right dismissing the young triton''s aggression. "she is already here" a female Redheaded mermaid that looked like a mix of Charlize Theron with some victoria secret model swam next to the shore, her tail spliced in half and morphed transforming in to feet, her naked frame got covered by a thin transparent dress that only covered enough but somehow was dry and waved with the wind "speak before i gut you and eat your intestines as a sausage" Said the female while resting her left hand on her hip with an attitude. "My queen i have to report my transgression" a mermaid Jack recognized from their river encounter swam next to the Queen. as her tail became legs she knell and put her right hand over her hearth. "I am deeply sorry" the female who distracted his brother with her front rack when he was getting Ready to play a few days back spoke.
"aahh you gotta be fucking kidding me" The Mermaid queen said while sighting loudly "so Almodan is back, he is the first to return to this world as we know it" The queen said while making exaggerated body gestures while walking back and forth on the Lake shore "now some idiot is telling me that he is here to claim my daughter''s hand, and what is worst is that my most trusted Lieutenant somehow has kept this event secret from me. Not only the second wave of the God War but also my daughter''s marriage clusterfuck" the queen said while spreading her arms wide to her sides as showing some kind of prize. "what''s next? maybe you will strike me with a lightning" she reiterated while looking up "we don''t mean to disres...." Sourthnel could not finish his apologies as the queen''s hand raised shouting him up "the Lake tribe appreciates your notice and the two day travel here to notify us of the undead appearing on your village" the queen Said in a monotone, in a rehearsed way "But I got to admit your companions have guts" she paused only for a second to let the statement sink in "not only stealing my daughters hand but to show up here before even reaching their coming of age tribulation, you look old enough to have doubled the landmark for the tribulation. yet i don''t see the stain of any god on top of you" her eyes locked on the three earthlings "what do you think you are doing?" "About that... I think it would be better if i joined the conversation about their Status" Siegfried said while raising his hand "they might not look like it, and be fairly new to this world, but its all part of a bigger picture..." the Blonde man spoke slowly while staring at the Queen "might we find a quiet place to talk" "we may" the queen snapped her fingers and from thin air walls started to form around them. at first it looked almost like glass walls, transparent and only reflecting light on the edges where the walls meet but sooner than later the walls became opaque and light stopped peeking though them Support the author by searching for the original publication of this novel. "welcome to the ever moving castle" the Queen sat at a Throne that formed right behind her "who might the challenger be?"
The Tribulation is a coming of age ceremony that happens every 20 levels, its called this way because some Gods are more special than others and individuals might die every now and then. the first one usually marks one''s coming in to adulthood. A God of your Magic affiliation chooses you and you make a pact, sharing power and destiny, most of the time its a minor race changing experience. Over all you might earn one or two titles. Usually this Tribulation happens when teens turn 15 or 16, after that you "belong" to a God and people with the all seeing eye like the mermaid queen can appraise you. Jack Brandon and Bosco have yet to reach this milestone. Jack Thought about this while biting on a Chicken thigh, they where seated in the guests seats of the Ever Moving Castle Hall, To his left the queen was on a raised throne having a drinking bout with Siegfried, Her daughter who sat across as far away from Jack as manners allowed grinned at him. "ughhh" Siegfried exhaled "Another one!" he and the queen exclaimed at the same time while waving their arms in an exaggerated manner. two servants rushed with two newly unsealed pots full of some alcoholic beverage. Siegfried had a twisted half smile while the queen had a full confidence demeanor. The whole Marriage ordeal was related to her daughter coming of age and rebellious attitude. The Makeshift camp on the river was 2 days away from the Mermaid lake. even at their swimming speed it takes them roughly 2 h to reach their spot, the princess and the other mermaids where on a forward patrol when they heard his brother''s magically imbued music traveling down the stream. For some reason they where not killed on sight, probably because of the mermaid''s curiosity. and fin ally he was chose as the princess champion to defend and claim her hand against the claimer, who was an adult triton, her 6th cousin or some thing like that. Jack knew that mixing blood was not really good from a genetic point of way but a far relative like that would not matter much. he laid back and exhaled as he peeked trough his peripheral vision looking at Siegfried finishing his drink and exclaiming happily "this is the best mission i accepted so far" his screams resonated in the walls of the dining hall of the castle "The deserters where killed for me by this guys, then i get drunk on elvish wine, if you knew how much it would cost me that in the capital" Siegfried said while looking at a female Servant who looked at him with a confused look not understanding what he is talking about and just trying to do her job "the undead where a pain" Siegfried said as he frowned slightly "but now i found a woman that can beat me at drinking!" he exclaimed cheerfully before a slight hiccup took over him "to the Queen!" he raised his cup and others followed his toast. the queen who Also started to show signs that the 4 empty ceramic pots in front of her where not full of water cheered as her face was starting to turn the same color as her hair "so who is this fool i gotta walk to the other side" she said with a laugh as she waved and looked at Jack "the other side?" Jack asked 100% sober, he had been on edge since the tridents flew towards him at the lake shore "yes, you will fight to the death with the Triton that reclaimed my daughters hand" she said with a slight smile "and you will most likely die in the process" she concluded her statement and rose her hands quieting down the hall. "ENOUGH!" she screamed and finally a deadly silence took over the room "Adoras!" she pointed at a young male triton who rose from his seat a few rows away from the the queen, an long brown hair tide in a pony tail, his muscles almost seemed to pop out from his clothes "do you wish to hold the claim for my daughters hand?" she asked and the male node "Freya what do you respond to his request?" the queen asked her daughter "I refuse. I name a champion" The Princess said out loud "who ever bares my pendant he shall fight for my hand" she reiterated "That will be me " jack massaged his nose bridge as he rose. at this point 4 people where standing. almost 1000 eyes fixed on Jack''s frame. some laughed, some gossiped, others gasped. it was all the same for the human. "maybe we could avoid the whole death fight from the beginning" Jack''s comment rose even more murmurs in the crowd. "since i did not knew what it meant..." He said while talking out the pendant on his neck as more people where heard gossiping. "you dare suggest your life is worth more than my daughter''s hand?" for a second Jack stopped and chose his words carefully. Brandon rose from his seat and whispered Jack in his ear "do you trust me?" "with my life" "agree to the bout" Jack nodded to his brother "I ACCEPT!" Jack did not hesitated for a second, after he exclaimed out loud immediately cheers of drunk people took over the hall. the Queen and princess where half sliming and the Triton nodded accordingly. 21: Volcobar Fenrikin. Magic and Gods "Imagine yourself by a campfire underneath the open sky, far away from the rattling of society. Nearby you notice a raven spreading its wings; croaking as it solemnly stares out across the surrounding landscape. As you turn you can hear a fox crying out in the distance, followed by what can be perceived as a drum beat derived from the earth itself." -Vilgrux Forndum
"you are level 107?" Jack was sitting across a table, Siegfried nodded and laughed at the brother''s faces. "after level 80 and your 4rth tribulation your bottleneck and its way harder to level up, besides the Tribulation at level 100 its a milestone, usually half of the people that are tested by their god die so many avoid it." he paused for a moment and then laughed "my grandfather was fighting in with the enemy chieftain of the Mountain Dwarfs, as they where treading blows some fool ran in front of my Grandpas Axe " Siegfried waves his own battleaxe around depicting the scene "before his next blow could land, he turned to stone. they had him set to rest on the Village Main square. I still remember his face. An twisted and ugly expression saved for eternity" he tapped his knee as he laughed. "From the stories i heard, i bet he was not upset about dying, but more about not being able to kill that mountain dwarf fuck." Siegfried exhaled loudly and calmed down "Your magic is strong though" He nodded to himself as he poured himself another glass "i guessed you where some kind forest hermits" He said while roughly pointing at their wooden armor and stone spears "but estimating your skills and stats i could have sworn you where level 50, i guess with your amount of skills and their rank they kinda work as a buffer" he rubbed his chin for a second and frowned "So you say in your world you are far more advanced technologically, not only that your are both Apprentice Scholar..." he paused " i mean the owlbear was fucked up as your first kill but besides that, you been fortunate so far" he downed his cup quickly and burped silently to the side. "I doubt other people could have made it... So in ten days" Siegfried stopped to bite on a pice of fruit "fight to death" he said with half of his mouth full " i mean you could name a proxy... but if i fight with that triton i clam the Bride for myself" he laughed while biting down on the peach again. Jack refused that possibility immediately, Bosco was a dog, and Brandon had a bad matchup since he was a fire caster. Siegfried had estimated the triton to be a around Level 80 melee, and he was of water element like everyone of his race. Besides he was not a coward and by principle Jack refused to let others fight his wars. that left only one option "i power level you, and you create new skills, then as the defender you chose terrain and weapons... there aren''t any mountains in the vicinity, but as long as you stay away from big bodies of water you should have the advantage" Siegfried''s eyes had passion, he seemed to sober up each second. "Yes" jack rose from his seat "don''t worry, it will all resolve on time" Brandon seemed more secretive than usual "You will understand" he reiterated. Jack trusted him. as he said before with his life. "ok, chop chop, monsters will not kill themselves" Siegfried clapped his hands cleaning them from the fruit juices and the spilled wine, he opened his travel backpack and took out a thin bladed sword out. "you only saw me fight with the battle axe" his lips curved up "let me show you what the Walking Storm does" the blade whistled as he waved it around resembling the sound of the wind "i will show you despair. i will split you in half, i will pierce your soul" as he stated his last word the flat of the blade meet his lips. He kissed the blade lightly and blinked "lets go"
"Foolish" Bosco said with a growl as he ripped the head from a Giant centipede that overextended her position. The Doberman was no longer a dog. Siegfried explained that animals sometimes undergoes racial changes similar to his. the fact that he could speak now Meaned he was a Spiritual Beast. a Wind Element Spiritual Beast to be concrete. his race changed to Volcobar Fenrikin. the brothers estimated he now weighted roughly 500 or 600 pounds, and his fur had a transparent light gray tone. He worked as the groups flank, even though he specialized on quick flash attacks that oneshoted the monsters it did not mattered right now. they had been raiding the Centipede''s nest for the past 30 minutes. Jack had killed 15 of them siegfried''s blade pierced their tough carapace without trouble. Brandon stayed on the back and his arms shook while holding his knocked bow. "Maybe two more until 40" Said jack as he pushed a dead centipede to the side with his arms "not here. maybe the next nest" Siegfried Cleaned his blade with his Cloak, his clothes where immaculate, hi''s battle arts allowed him to move with grace and skill, not even the splashing blood reached his frame as he pierced left and right. "You hit them good boss" Bosco said. he called them Master Jack and Master Brandon the first two days after gaining his ability to speak, they made him change it to Boss since it was lees awkward. "lets just pray that the next tribulation is less painful" Brandon said as he frowned remembering this first time meeting his goddess. "fire gods are a bit... particular. you just got bad luck." Siegfried noted. "we can only hope" Brandon prayed and his brows twitched slightly "i bet she is listening" Siegfried laughed "don''t make it hard on yourself" he patted Brandon on the shoulder lightly "not every man can become a Herald" Spoiler: Spoiler

22: the real tribulation. "Have you heard of the dark elves?" -Inside Joke by Brandon Phenix Herald of the Ever Lasting Fire
Jack almost pouched his way out as he was touched but recoiled the last second the Mermaid princess has been sneaking under his Owlbear pelt for the past 3 days. the first time he saw her back on the river edge gave him an impression, he did not even imagined this could be physically possible but her knee brushed against his groin. "not today" he Whispered before kissing her in the forehead, she seemed disappointed for a second, but regained her grinned the moment he refused her advances, she started to move her knee more enthusiastically "tomorrow" Jack worked his way down the mermaid body. a kiss each second. He stayed on her breasts for a few minutes before raising up and meeting her lips. "i hope you don''t get offended tomorrow" "why?" she asked as she touched his face with her hand similar to how John Travolta hand gestures it. "it might go fairly straight forward..." Jack whispered more quietly focussing on not waking up his brother and Bosco who where sleeping near by she licked his face which surprised Jack. after their lips meet again she frowned ad spoke. "your brother... he has the fantom of a woman haunting him. redheaded..." she said before Brandon named her Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings. " "Maria" his ex.... Ex girlfriend?" He shrugged at his ignorance " i don''t know how to explain but she looked fairly similar to your mother. And behaved kinda similar too her "Jack kissed and paused with each word her breasts again as he smiled he did not mean to disrespect the mermaid queen by comparing her to the Insane Ex from his brother but it was a fair comparison, The Mermaid Queen was pretty brutal. he frowned as he recalled his time in the marines. this world was fucked up and his past actions connected a few dots in bis brain. he Frowned "i can see you..." she brushed his face upside down calling for his attention. "what you did. its not so wrong" her lips rose for a second before she grabbed his manhood and made him gasp "i will not hate you for what you did" she whispered as their lips meet. The Princess had inherited the Ever Seeing Eye from her mother and she not only could see the Shadow of A God over an individual, she can also see the past, present and future to an extent. its called the "Ever Seeing Eye" for a reason. "you know my mother is not so bad..." she paused and And inhaled loudly for a second as his fingers finally entered inside of her. "i know" he said as kissed her neck trying to forget him recalling what haunted him. after dismissing the whole ordeal. "she... Is... Not...So...Bad" he paused and kissed a different part of her flat stomach each time. For some reason it feet good and distracted him from the death match he had the next morning. The Mermaid Princess passed her fingers along his hair as her back curved and she gasped for air again. 23: Interlude: Assassination In the House of god " Life is similar to a marriage. you are bount to it in thegood times and in bad, in sickness and in health." - Alex the Sodomite
the dark empty hall made the pair of military boots resonate and the echo traveled down the galleries. A door screeched as it was opened, Lusfer guessed that the door''s hinges would not last a kick and the door frame had visible damage from the incident, bended and twisted as the door was kicked out from the inside the night before "the priests heard the commotion around midnight. two of them tried to aid the Archbishop but both of them died." said a man with fancy robes as he pointed two corpses laying on the floor, both throats cut, limbs twisted in an unnatural manner, similar to their face expressions of pure terror. "as you can..." "that is all i need. let me work" Lusfer interrupted the bishop in a harsh manner. years of fighting the savages had made him not care for protocol or manners even though he is from a lower noble house. "as you wish" The fake smile of the bishop did not worked to mask his murder intent. after a short nod with the head he left the room. Lusfer examined the room from the door frame, a large king size bed was in the middle, the golden headboard that was better than the one that his father had was covered in a splash of coagulated blood. he smelled the air, his nose picked up the smell of corpses and blood. since The Return of Almodan the Kingdom has very strict rules with the treatment of copses but this was an exception, just the fact that he was the one called in to investigate the "incident" was proof enough. between all the blood, shit and cadaver smell he picked up something strange. and by strange he meant unknown. an very particular scent of something he had never smelled before. his eyes opened slowly and he approached the bed. the side on the left was covered in a pool of blood. Lusfer assumed that it was where the Archbishop died, the rest of him or what you could call such thing had dripped down from the side of the bed to the floor. on the other side there was also a trail, but instead of the dark reed of the coagulated blood it was a very thick liquid of obsidian black, it almost seemed to eat the light around it. The author''s content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. For the first time in years he hesitated, after a second he touched the liquid with his hand. it covered the tip of his fingers, he moved the thick goo with his thumb and brought his hand close to his nostrils trying to guess what could it be without succeeding. "mother fucker" he cursed as he cleaned his hand with the corner of the bed sheets. he had no clue and that pissed him off, real bad. he looked around the room for clues, it was more or less torn upside down, dressers pushed over, the religious icons on the floor, big claw marks decorated the walls he touched one of the claw marks and it also had the unknown substance. he looked under the bed, where the Archbishop was there was nothing, but his eagle eyes saw something on the other side. after a few seconds he found an ear ring. "a woman" he stated after finding traces of a perfume on it " but why here?" he already knew the answer to that question. Perfume, earnings, being in the opposite side of the bed with the Archbishop... He looked at the two priests that where laying on the floor next to the bed. their bodies where mingled, he still examined them. he found a bundle of rope, and a dagger. now the picture started to make sense. "so they kidnaped a female, brought her here, and then started to play with her... and then she turned in to something and killed them all." he sighted as he finished his last statement. "gotta find her" Lusfer kneel down and with each deep breath he rocked back and forth, since he was a medicated lycanthrope he could change at will, but doing some meditation before turning always helped keep the head clear. after a few minutes his body started to morph rapidly. his clothes almost ripped under the pressure of the muscles forming under the armor, his skin got covered in fur and in the blink of an eye an armored werewolf stood where Lusfer was. "let the hunt begin" an almost impossible deep voice could be heard from inside the room. with his clawed hand he picked up the earring and smelled it, then the air. like magic, almost immediately a half smile rose on his canine like lips. He launched trough the window, even it being around 6 stories high he could make the landing without harm. only thing in his mind is to find the woman and question her 24: Duel to death Part 1 "I cant sleep" - Carving in the wall of the cell 211 of the Prison of Newfoundland
the terrain chosen was a small rocky clearing about half a day on foot from the mermaid lake. even though it was not as far away as Siegfried recommended it would work, during the last week while hunting monsters they also used that time to scout out the area around the giant lake. after confirming this with the Queen and getting her permission they decided to head first. By the time they arrived it surprised them how the scenery had changed. the Mermaid clan had built a couple of crude roof tops and benches for the bout, half of them where already drunk and cheered as one of the contestants arrived, the other half where ether busy or did not cared that much. Brandon asked himself if the mermaid tribe had used a teleport skill to move all this people here in such short notice. Something he would need to inquire in the future. The mermaid warrior arrived in full scale armor that covered every inch of his body from neck to toe, the scales had an azure color to them and shined beautifully under the sun. Jack could not perceive a single trace of cockiness or arrogance in the Young triton. After bowing slightly to Jack as a greeting they parted ways without saying a word, each to a shadow casted by some tent roofs erected for the preparation of the warriors situated on opposite sides of the arena. Brandon had suspected that this would be a big event but this was far more elaborated than he imagined. he was starting to get nervous. "so what would be your weapon of choice, if you chose spear he will go with his trident" Siegfried downed his cup and eructed slightly. Brandon started to suspect that Siegfried was an alcoholic, they even had a joke where they would ask Siegfried if he was feeling sick if they found him without a cup on his hand. "fists" Jack had decided to use his boxing skills to win this, even though it would prolong the fight for far to long he had more confidence in his advanced ability than in his spear wielding, a skill that he learned less than a month ago. and to make it worst most of the time he just used his size advantage to overpower the opponents rather than outmatch them with skill. even though he was advised otherwise by his companions since he was on the disadvantage, it was a fight to exhaustion, and he being under leveled made it more likely that he would wind out sooner than the enemy. This was possible, but it was not certain. skills and titles influence more the stats than actual level, and the two brothers really have good skills and even unique titles. A man in fancy robes walked to the center of the arena and rose his hands to quiet down the rowdy crowd. his speech was carried with the wind, a strong and resonating voice that could be heard by everyone, more than likely it was a skill. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. After introducing the two fighters by name he waited for them to approach. " A duel to the death for the Hand of the Princess!" he exclaimed and the crowd cheered. "The Defender will now declare weapons" they where explained beforehand that this was done right before the match so the challenger did not have the advantage of preparing beforehand. Seems like Duel to Death rules of this world really worked against the challenger, and helped the defender... In a sense it was the right approach, if you consider something worth to kill for, you are the one who has to take the risk. "Fists" said jack while tossing his spear back, Brandon who was standing some 15 feet back caught it midair and walked away towards the tent. there was death silence, some of the people in the crowd seemed to have stopped breathing. "say that again?" the Referee did not believed what he heard "Fists is my weapons choice, passive and active skills are allowed as the ground rules stipulates" said while raising his guard. they where explained that you can not prohibit the use of skills during a duel, only chose weapons "The Defender Chooses Fists as Weapons" Said the Referee with an almost shaky voice. the silence was broken by the Queens laugh while she dismissed the whole ordeal allowing it to happen. the triton node and gave his trident to a small boy that came running to fetch it for him, before the boy could run back the triton took out his armored gauntlets and also handed them over. the fight starter without much anticipation after the Referee moved away to a safe distance. "fight!" the triton lounged at Jack with a seizer like motion and with his hands extended he went for the neck, Jack was able to dodge it by using shadowstep, an active skill that makes you teleport to the shadow of a being or a thing, witch situated him to the immediate left of the triton, by the time he appeared he was midway throwing an uppercut. the triton only had time to twist his head to look at Jack before the hit landed on his chin. while using Shadow Strike a second hit landed on the Tritons throat doubling down the damage and strength of the hit raising him from the ground a few inches and making him stumble back. Jack did not lost a single second and pressed on the advance while waving his head Tyson style. he saw the hook coming and ducked down, immediately he threw a right to the body right where the pancreas in a human would be, this instinctively made the triton lower his guard, exactly what Jack wanted and expected to happen, an overhead left landed on the shoulder blade of the Triton, Jack clearly missed his mark because the triton Moved a little to the right. while taking two quick and surprisingly long jumps backwards he was at least 15 feet away from jack, he shook his head as to clear it, and spited some blood out of his mouth. Jack noticed it was of blue color, a smile appeared in his face and for the first time they heard him speak "Nice!" Adoras had a Deep yet kind voice, back on earth he would probably could been a singer, a very popular one judging by how handsome he was. Jack had a feeling that the real fight would start now.
