《Procedurally Generated Shenanigans!》 999.9 Days until release First there was nothing. Then there was something. The boys in the development department had outdone themselves in shoving so much nerdiness into one world. There were boss monsters with rich backstories filled with sorrow and hardships, magical weapons and powers that would shame virtual mountains if they could, dungeons that could make even the best Diablo player cry at the difficulty and detail put into each and every one, Npcs with rich backstories and relationships that seemed almost life-like, and then came the world building. They may have worked hard to add so many things, but one thing they forgot was how to make it all fit into an actual story. Lets just say the company execs weren¡¯t too happy about having one huge orgy of random quests, items, npcs, towns, and bosses without one single thing to connect any of them. So, as companies occasionally do, they threw it all out the window! All of this hardwork and dedication ended up being scrapped for a procedurally generated world with only the most basic rpg monsters, items, and npcs, but, the one thing that made this unique was that it wasn¡¯t just stuck like that until release. No, the world was filled with sentient beings with thoughts and feelings that would develop over the next 3-ish years, and thats how we got the world of ! Now we may not have a name yet but were hoping to make the best of a bad situation by the end of the 999 days we have left.Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on the original website. Now of course, we can¡¯t monitor every single thing that happens in the world. We have a god A.I to do that! It will act as the main developer and rule-maker of the world. We set it basic instructions on tiers and evolutions of creatures and that it only had one restriction, it all had to be connected in one way or another, then we set it free to rule it¡¯s own mini world. The only things we have a decision on is the major game changes and introductions of new species into the world. We do have a back door though, just in case the A.I gets too out of control! So, naturally, we named it Randy! End of Message leaked from employee of StudioBlue about upcoming projects and games. 999 Days until release First there was nothing, then there was something. The transparent being woke up in a bed of stone. After what seemed like years, the being slowly rose until it saw a bright shining light and a semi-transparent blue box with some squiggly lines. After looking hard at the box, and trying very hard to not look at the bright ball behind the box, like a lens coming into focus, it all suddenly made complete sense. Dale thought, not really knowing what any of it meant, but more numbers mean better things even if they do have a line next to them, right? After looking at the blue box for some time he started to notice it was fading slowly. After it was gone Dale took a good look at the surroundings. He noticed a bunch of rocks surrounded by a fence that looked similar and went to examine them ¡°001-074¡± ¡°Baron of Randotown¡± ¡°He will be missed¡± he looked at each and everyone for a time until he noticed a slightly smaller box in the corner of his vision. Int + 1 Suddenly, the world made a bit more sense. Looking at the stones again he realized that they were there because people had died! He wasn¡¯t sure why people would put these rock thingies here for their dead, and he didn¡¯t want question it more because they may do that to him if he asked! Deciding that there was nothing left to do in the death rock place, he looked at him self and only noticed a faint outline of a male shaped body. The only thing was, he could see right through himself! He sat down to examine himself more and noticed he was slowly sinking into the ground! He leapt up and instantly started floating up into the bright ball thingy, which he now recognized as the sun. Slowly, he phased himself down to the ground, but not into it, he then noticed another box in the corner. Phase + 1 More numbers, yay! Dale thought, quickly trying again to get more numbers. It took a bit longer, but he finally got more numbers Phase + 1 He decided not to do it more because it was getting boring quickly and he didn¡¯t want to be here all day. Wisdom + 1 Now he was really confused, It was different letters again, but he wasn¡¯t sure why he got them. After a while of thinking he finally got up and tried to walk towards the fence. But when he tried he just walked in place. He wondered how he could move until he remembered how he had gone up and down earlier. He tried to shift himself forward and found that it was much easier than trying to move with his legs, even if it made him look a bit silly. After getting the hang of phasing, he now noticed the sun was gone and there was a silvery white ball in the sky, in all its illuminating glory. Dale looked at it in utter silence. It was the most beautiful thing he had every seen. He was paralyzed by the magnificence of the moon. After what seemed like ages, he looked around and realized it was darker than earlier and he now couldn¡¯t see past the fence. Not wanting to leave the safety of the rock yard, and totally not because he wanted to look at the silver ball in the sky more. He decided to wait until the sun came back. 998 Days until release
Black Magic, still learning how to use these mi amigos.
After watching the white ball awhile more, Dale noticed it was slowly going down like the sun, thinking about it more for a second, he realized if the bright ball was the sun, this must be the nus! He wondered what would happen next until he saw the sun slowly creeping up on the sky. After watching the sun go up to the middle of the sky. Dale looked around and determined everything was back to normal, and as a bonus he could finally see past the fence. He spied a bunch of buildings and some weird looking things shaped like himself but immediatly he noticed they weren¡¯t the same silvery blue that he was. Chalking it up to a random coincidence he bravely phased out of the rock yard and almost immediatly phased back in. As soon as he had phased out of the yard. He had been hit with a wave of nauseousness unlike anything he¡¯d felt before in his brief life. Deciding to try again, he phased slowly out of the yard but still remained close enough to go phase back in, Dale felt slightly better than before but it still didn¡¯t feel quite right. After awhile of just floating there he started to feel the nauseousness alleviate and noticed another 3 bright blue boxes that were slowly starting to fade.
You have left your spawn area! You have contracted Spawn Sickness! Spawn Sickness cured!
Well, whatever that was, it must be good because the bad stuff stopped, right? Dale thought to no one in particular. Having found his bearings, he contiuned on his brave journey to the box places. After some time, he approached the edge of what looked like an endless path of green and brown. It was blocking his path to the buildings, but it seemed there was a small gravel path leading into the deepest part of the woods, so the adventure continues! As Dale phased on and eventually got lost, he was met with three strange occurences. If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation. First, he got another strange box,
Phase +1
Becase it looked the same as the ones he had gotten while floating, he assumed they were the same thing. Next, after about 10 minutes he discovered that when he tried to go through one of the brown things, all that would happen was that he phased right in front of it, but couldn¡¯t go through it. Deciding to just dodge these brown things, he continued on and was hit with another box
Intelligence +1
Looking around, he learned that these were called trees, and that the brown things he had previously thought were seperate from the green things were actually the trunk and leaves of a tree respectively. He also started to get a basic understanding of the words in front of him, intelligence must of been what made him smart, and phase must be connected to his ability called Transparency because it has the word phase in it, right? Dale thought to himself. He also realized rather embarressingly, he had been calling the silvery white ball the Nus but now learned it was called the moon Next, Dale came upon some furry creatures with fuzzy ears and button noses. They looked friendly enough so Dale decided to approach them and see if he could have them help him out of the woods. As he was slowly phasing his way to the fuzzy creatures. One of the creature¡¯s furry ears perked up and looked straight at Dale. Almost immediately, the poor things heart stopped as waves of fear radiated from this transparent monster which was slowly creeping towards its warren. As soon as one collapsed, the others quickly bolted into the nearest hole in the ground leaving the last to the mercy of this horrible beast baring down on them. Dale was stunned. He hadn¡¯t meant to do this, but right after it had happened he had gotten another notification,
(Skill) Spookyness Increased to level 2! 2% of the way to level 3!
Dale pondered this for a moment. If approaching these creatures made his numbers bigger, then thats a good thing, right? Deciding to do it once again, with a smile full of glee, he approached the hole where the creatures has disappeared into. The next day, when the citizens of the small village called Randotown came into the woods for their daily hunt, they found what could only be described as a massacre of the woodland bunnies with not one remaining in the area. This day was henceforth called the day of no-hops. 997 Days Until Release
[Skill] Level up! [Skill] Level up! [Skill] Level up! Spookyness Increased to LVL 5! 37% of the way to LVL 6 Side Effect Unlocked! Spookyness now has a chance of scaring higher level opponents!
After Dale had finished "helpling" one of the last fuzzy eared creatures, he decided to check how boxes he had gotten from helping the hat the number was bigger and pushed away the box, seemily satisfied. Leaving the peaceful animals to sleep for awhile longer, he decided to try and find his way out of the forest. He wandered for awhile and admired his handy work in getting the cute creatures to fall asleep. They must''ve been very sleepy if they had just fallen asleep by looking at him! Eventually, after the Sun had risen to the edge of the sky and the moon was slowly going somewhere else, he broke out of the tree line and looked down upon the valley where all those strange looking places, no, buildings were. he had gotten quite a bit closer and could now clearly see the fence that surrounded the town. Dale was still a bit wary of fences since the last time he had crossed one he had felt his head, or where his head should of been if it wasn''t transparent, had hurt badly. After weighing the pro''s and cons of going through the fence, he decided he would wait until night so he could go over the fence while it was asleep. Dale decided in the meantime he would wander around for a while. Maybe he could find some other creatures to put to sleep! This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. Many, Many hours and several dead foxes or "Pointy ears,¡± later, he noticed the sun was dipping below the skies and the moon was creeping into his view, he decided now would be the perfect time for him to make his move. Slowly and Cautiously the ghost phased to the buildings, when he reached the fence, he paused for a second before deciding he was ready to move on. Suprisingly, when he had phased past the fence, Dale hadn''t gotten sick, nauseous, or even queasy. He decided that the fence must''ve fallen asleep and he had snuck right past it successfully. After giving himself a mental pat on the back, he continued forward even braver than before. When he reached what he assumed was the town, he realized he could barely see the outlines of the buildings nearby. he tried focusing on them as they got harder to see, but they slowly became darker and darker until he couldn''t see anything past himself. He tried moving around but was stopped by either buildings or random objects on the street, after moving for what seemed like an eternity, he noticed a brown barrel on the road and was suddenly entranced by it. ¡°Maybe I can ask the barrel for directions?¡± Dale thought, After concentrating on that certain majestic barrel for sometime, thinking of the way he should approach the barrel, he suddenly got a notification.
Gained Racial Skill! [Night Vision] is now unlocked, [Night Vision]: Allows you to see in the dark, each level increases your ability to see in the dark! Secondary Effects: +5 to Vision.
While he could read the words, he still had no idea what they meant. After looking up from the confusing text, he noticed he could now see the barrel as if it was late morning. Slowly, he looked up into the sky and noticed the silvery moon was still hanging in the middle of the sky. Chalking it up to a random coincedince, he looked around and realized he had been walking through the same things and had just been moving in circles around one of the buildings! Feeling embarrassed about this, he decided not to mention it to the other things when he eventually met them, after all, they would think he was dumb! After finally tearing himself away from the moon, of which he could now see almost all of it, he moved on until he reached the barrel, where he could see something faintly silvery. Dale slowly reached into the barrel and brought out nothing, realizing he couldn¡¯t actually grab anything in the barrel, he tried to peer in and see what was inside, only to find that he could no longer see what was inside. Looking tearfully at the beautiful and amazing barrel, he slowly phased to one of the other buildings, hoping to find a barrel he could open.
