《Magick Online》 Prologue Named Rose, he didn''t have a particularly flowery -hehe- upbringing, he was truely the definition of lonely. He''d never had a friend, but nor did he want to at this point. He''d observed enough at this point to see what happens when connections between humans were made; benefit, benefit, benefit, that''s all relationships of any kind were, and he wouldn''t fall into a pit he could already see. His parents were very rarely around, always away on business trips, the bright side to this was the wealth and the benefits that came with it. He was a small child of a normal build. He had bright blue eyes, with a mop of dirty blond hair, he was good-looking but not overly eye-catching. Left to isolation over the years he was extremely smart and observant. Daily life existed of reading books on top of books, he devourer them without discrimination, from philosophical to fantasy to ancient history. It didn''t matter what book and from this reading and knowledge came his outlook on life and ability to read people. A child unattended and left to world was bound toinfluenced even slightly by what happened around them, and so the child grew up with a hatred towards his own species. This condensed ball of hatred was the thing that caused his personality to twist him into a psychopath.
In the ever evolving world of technology there was always going to be a day that Virtual Reality and the games that coincide with it would reach the pinnacle. The announcement of the game Magick Online had the hype of the world behind it due to the information released by MagickGames, a branch of the leading tech Corporation Atlas who put their best team of designers, programmers, marketers, everything. With a promise of over 20 races, 10 main classes -not mentioning the 1000''s of hidden classes that for sure will exist- with 3 different build paths for each. That in itself was enough to excite the people but the fact that the devs leaked that there were over 3000 spells and a level cap of 1000 and an infinite amount of quests gave the audience the sense of a game and world with an end that was not near. And with the thought of development in mind, the designers and devs added what would later be used as esports facilities within the game. The addition of PVP and GVG arena. In the pre-release patch notes the description given wasIf you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. "There will be 3 options for PVP and GVG alike; PVP will have 1v1, 3v3 and 5v5 to allow for dueling or fighting with companions. GVG will have 10v10, 50v50 and 100v100 as Battle options. Inside the arena will be the ability to choose from 7 current terrain with more in the works or a random condition selector, however the terrain itself with be custom generated by AI." Moreover the hardcore/rich gamers would have the ability to basically live in the game infinitely -well until they die irl- because of the latest VR cabin upgrades released 2 months prior, which included a feeding tube with a massive back-up supply attacted to it. It would be enough to last...a while. It also put the body into a state of suspended animation to rest the body when the brain recognised that the player was tired. (Ngl, I couldn''t think of the right word so just called it suspended animation)
Rose whilst being someone who had read books most of his life, he wasn''t new to the world of video games or VR at that. Whilst he was good at video games, there was not much that piqued his interest or could keep him around that long. However with the announcement of Magick Online he thought that might change. There is also something else that should be known about Rose. He didn''t attend school, as there was no need with his mind, also people were there -ew-, and even his parents who had little contact with him, so this would also be a good way to alleviate his currently boring and monotonous life. It was 1 week and 3 days later when Magick Online officially launched and it was at this time that Rose was sat inside the VR cabin connected up and excited to start. "Magick Online: Launch" Chapter 1 - Choices Rose was hit with a blinding light before being put infront of what he assumes is the AI system. It was a man of no discernable race to him, but he looked like a stereotypical gentleman nonetheless, wearing a typical black and white pinstripe suit and ofcourse a top-hat to go with it. He has a rigid posture and twiddled with his moustache before saying in a surprisingly neutral tonel; "Welcome Adventurer, to Magick Online, I am the main AI system. On the tablet infront of you will be the selection of Races available. Slide to the left or right to look at the next class, please choose one. Bear in mind that races are only for cosmetic purposes only." Rose looked down at the tablet to see the information displayed
Angel The Holy Race belonging to God. This Race is well-known for their pure white wings and blinding radiance.
Rose looked through all the races displaying a similar short description for each until he came back to;
Demon The Evil Race of the Underworld. This Race is well-known for their dealing with Satan.
"Select Race." was Rose''s words after scrolling back to "Demon." "Race Selected, please choose a class from the tablet." was the AI''skurt reply. In a similar fashion to before Rose scrolled through all the classes, however this time he was more thorough as all the classes had a different bonus for choosing. In the end he decided to settle on;Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
Assassin The Assassin class is known for high single-target burst damage, high movement and evasion along with the signature skill on stealth, allowing them to turn invisible. Class Bonus Choosing the Assassin class allows you to activate skills without using voice command, you can active skills through thought.
"Select Class." Rose said. Although he looked through all the classes it was a no-brainer for Rose to pick the Assassin class, Assassins were cool and if he was going to be playing a villain in this game playing as a class like an Asassin was a good place to start, especially when with the roleplaying style he was going for being under the radar at the beginning was in his best interests, as most assassins were. "Class Selected, please edit your character and enter a name." Following the AI saying this a mirror rose out of thin air. Reflected in that mirror was a demonic looking character. Rose looked down, seeing how he resembled the reflected image, he was quite surprised. ''When the fuck did I change into the base model.'' was his thought, but carried on regardless, changing his character to have red skin with black curved horns supplemented by a ripped body.-because come on who doesn''t want to play with an 8 pack lul- As an afterthought Rose also changed his characters height to as small as the parameters would allow him(4ft 5in) because an Assassin that was smaller was harder to see, catch, or hit, even with as infuriating it would already have been. Pressing on the tablet to input a name Rose entered "Undefined." He found it amusing because more than a few people would probably think it was a bug. After pressing the "Enter" button the AI proceeded; "Please select a Starting Area." Rose thought for a second before just thinking ''Fuck it, theres 0 information about this out, I may aswel just have fun and Hail Mary it'' and so he decided "Select Random." "Randomising Starting Area...Starting Area seleted. Would you like to enter the game, or would you like to make further changes?" questioned the AI. "Enter the game." Rose quipped back. And then another blinding flash of light before he found himself in the middle of hmm fuck knows where. Chapter 2 - Starting Out With a sweeping glance Rose found himself in the middle of a small village, with very few additional players around, each doing their own looking about after just entering the game. With a thought of ''Status'' a window popped up.
Undefined Class Assassin Hidden Class None
Level 1 0/1000 Health 100/100 Mana 150/150
Stats STR 10 AGI 10 INT 10 PER 10
DEF 10 RES 10 CHA 10 WIS 10 LUK 10
Rose took a quick glance before deciding that it was easy to read and understand, the only stat he was unsure of was RES, and while he could take a good guess as to what that was there was no harm in making sure and with another thought a second window popped up.
RES A stat that increases your resistance to effects and crowd control. Posion, stun, curse etc.
His guess was right, closing the windows down Rose set out to just explore the place he had been sent to called "Diaal Village" if he was to go by what his HUD was telling him. Spotting what seemed like a small marketplace between the cluster of huts, he set out. Strolling through the marketplace, it was safe to say there was not much to see. At this point he was kind of regretting selecting random, but at the same time, there weren''t many other players so that meant that he would be able to hog more of the resources around this area -Referring to exp, quests etc here.- Without any idea as to where to start Rose decided to just venture out of the village and into the wilderness. Each player started out with a weapon according to their class, aswell as a set of leather armour and 1 silver. Following the dirt road path out of the village he spawned in Rose observed his surroundings, unfortunately all he could he was wilderness all around. He followed the path until he came across a small open clearing in which the dirt path stopped and followed on into the woods, but standing at the edge of the clearing Rose observed the 8 slimes bouncing across the clearing. Above the green blobs was the text "Slime Lvl 1" with a health bar underneath. It wasinconceivable in nearly all MMO''s to die to a slime and considering the mob was only level 1 Rose had no fear, and whilst running up to the slime closest to him Rose pulled out the dagger that was hooked onto the side of his pants, slicing it through the slime''s body. The blade passed through the jelly like substance without much resistance and the red bar above the slime dropped by 1/10th with "-10" appearing next to it. ''This is new.'' thought Rose. During no point during previous VRMMO''s did the game display the damage your dealt that was not in a UI pop-up and neither did they put the monsters name or level above mobs, instead opting to use that opportunity to create the "appraisal skill." Rose also recognised that even though he had damaged the slime the others in the clearing did not aggro to him, this made things much easier for him to grind. Since this was the case, he decided that he would purposely take damage from the slime for two reasons, one as a damage test and one to see the workings of what happens when hit. This novel is published on a different platform. Support the original author by finding the official source. The slime jumped at Rose and he stared as it came at him, it hit him in the chest and hestumbled backwards a few steps. He felt slightly winded but otherwise fine, also noting his health bar having gone down 5. For the next test he waited until the slime jumped at him again before putting his dagger into the slimes path, the slime hit the dagger and nothing happened except a small notification saying [Attack blocked]. ''That was fun'' thought Rose. With his tests done Rose attacked the slime, hitting it another 9 times, whilst side-stepping when it jumped until it died. With the death of the slime another small notification, not unlike the previous one popped up. [You have gained 100 Experience and 7 Copper] For the next 15 minutes Rose spent his time killing the slimes in the clearing until he got another notification, this time it was in the middle of his HUD
You have levelled up! Due to levelling up you now have access to 5 attribute points and 1 skill point!
Despite levelling up, Rose decided to spend any of his attribute points at this moment in time, it was always one of the hardest things, deciding what to expend points into, because you never know what''s going to happen in the future in which you would need the points for. And so for the short-future he wouldn''t use them, the skill point on the other hand he was very happy to use. Opening up his skills tab, it was split into 3 sections.
Assassin Spy Thief
[Skills]? ?[Skills] [Skills]
With the skills listed below, there no debating which path Rose wanted to go down and so without hesitation he put his first skill point into the [Assassin]''s first skill being the well-reknowned
Stealth Your character enters a state of stealth. If attack an enemy whilst in stealth you apply a bleed effect to the enemy but are forced out of stealth and the skill goes on cooldown. Cooldown: 14 seconds??Mana: 25??Base Damage: 15x5??Stealth Duration: 60 seconds [0.5 per level]
With the acquirement of his first skill Rose was itching to try it out and so immediately after he thought ''Stealth'' and his character went invisible to all but himself. He then walked around for 20 seconds to get used to the feeling of the skill, it was a little weird knowing you were invisible. After the short pacing around he slashed at a slime that bounced along infront of him. He watched the first -10 appear and then a smaller number of -15 appear after that, one per second for 5 seconds, leaving the slime on 15 hp, hitting it twice more the slime burst into particles and the already familiar notification of [You have gained 15 Experience and 8 Cooper]. Staring at the notification Rose thought ''Well that''s a bit harsh, I only leveled up once and they only give me 15% of the experience I gained before, although I am happy with the new skill.''
