《The Misfit》 Chapter 0 A very ordinary clearing in a uncharted forest area was showing very unusual fluctuations in the slight drizzle. Rain was not a big surprise as the area rarely saw sunlight but if a arch-mage or a very high rank sensor was here they would exclaim at the amount of rippling particles that was slowly but surely assembling which were not quite mana, if you''d look closely at it. It was quite out of the reach of the human or to that end any kingdom or Empire which was why the area was "uncharted" and undisturbed shrubbery and various species and sizes of trees grew haphazardly never spoiled by a human foot. Few monsters roamed here in this depression of land surrounded by two mountain ranges and a prairie to one side that stretched to the horizon. The dramtic decent from the tall mountains to indented on hollow of dense forest to the steep incline meeting the flat land puddles frozen over here and there strewn across the prairie with waist-high grass was a very breathtaking view, not just because of the altitude. The wind slightly picked up and the accumulated mystery particles blinked and vanished with a whomp like someone released gas. And then there was someone standing there like it stood there from evermore. Deb was a old hand at this jumping business. Jump you ask? Well it is what you do at the metaphorical end of the line. Jumping and sending a ripple alerting the whole world of your arrival? Newbie mistake. Well if the circumstances call for it it could be a good or bad decision but to Deb it wasn''t needed. Not anymore. Closing his eyes he waited till the system of the world recognized and analyzed and set a primary goal for him to succeed and variant skills for him to master. According to his calculations and pattern analysis this round he should be most likely male. It was very comforting to live as a male as it was his gender in the first life. Not like he was uncomfortable in a female skin, actually he has lived more lives as a female, an overwhelming 1:3 ratio. But as you''d expect the resonance and sexuality (which is null at the moment) counts as something. However long Deb waited the initial headache and the announcement with the system injecting him with new protocols didn''t come. "Impossible..did i die within a second in this life..*gasp* my voice!?* " The feminine pitch of his took him by suprise. It had been a long time since he had been wrong in assuming something. For goodness''s sake he had maxed out assumption!Unauthorized content usage: if you discover this narrative on Amazon, report the violation. A quick round of touching and feeling around confirmed that she was indeed female, not some abomination the system cooked up by mixing genders. Even though it wouldn''t be the first time, that never was a pleasnt experience. She sighed and touched the tip of her canine tooth twice with her tongue. It was her preferred gesture to access system. But the notification it displayed just blew her mind. User has experienced all the current variants origin offers. Conditions cleared. Achievement accomplished. Traveler title upgraded to cosmos grade. System tray cleared. System cache cleared. All protocols cleared. User now cleared from the condition loop. User now cleared from the condition Still. Memory restrictions pronounced null. Limiter restrictions pronounced null. User no longer under the system jurisdiction. Awarding the skill < mod > Link dissolving..100% (Displaying Action log as of 17 seconds ago) Deb closed his mouth firmly and read the log throughly again. Then did it again. And again. After 532 times of reading she calmed down and closed the log. She opened it again and exactly as it said, memory restrictions were lifted and all experience was assimilating real time and action log now displayed it was two minutes after the last update of it. Which was odd. She wanted to scream but instead she sat down. Pain during mental expansion was nothing new but what she hated most the uncertainty of the future. System was fun. It was a definite guide of what to do. She enjoyed fulfilling conditions and completing achievements. It was this attitude and the obsessive neat freak tendency lead to her fate as a jumper. Not willing to cry but eyes fogging up her mind raced mile a minute considering anlayzing what to do while trying to repress the lost feeling. Her people did not have a set life-span so this emotional insecurity was what mostly killed them, one way or another. In a blink her mind cleared up and she resolutely mouthed . Soundlessly a four option menu popped up and Deb sighed and sagged in relief. She had somewhere to be. Something to do. And she was content of the fact. After all, Deb was someone who "completed" system of her home world. Deb was a natural at what he..she does and the end of the line didn''t matter. She did it once and certainly can do it again, alteady did a gazillion times anyways. Standing up she for the first time noticed she was sitting on a bush crushing it, while in the nude and light rain freely fell upon her. The wet mud was squelching under her toes as she stepped in and bent to wade into the forest. Chapter 1 Efil. It is just life pronounced backwards. Maybe the first jumper found irony in naming it like that. The reason? Well because it is anything but. Unlike life where you came to be with birth and cease to be with death in a efil of a jumper he/she comes to be with nothingness and the dissapears into nothingness. An abomination. A twist. An unnatural occurance even within the system. And system is a gathering of weird bunch of shit unexplainable by mere logic. The former-jumper more familiarly known to you as Deb or Debbie~ if you may was studying the windows presented to her by the new skill It was full of incomprehensible gibberish for the most part because according to the viewer these things were way above her clearance level. Well Deb was Deb for a good reason so she came to a few conjectures by herself and after a considerable time, a week actually, nodded to herself satisfied for the time being. She stood up on the tallest tree she could find at short notice in which she took residence of for the past few days and, refreshingly not naked mind you, relaxed and stretched while breathing in deeply letting go of the cricks and sores she accumulated while sitting down and hybernating on a very uncomfortable branch. A very satisfyingly numerous pops and cracks later she crouched down and dropped four hundred feet down to the ground landing without sound or impact and stood up walking toward the sun rising direction, whatever its called here in this world. While keeping a steady pace while working around or above the obstacles she brought up her arm and folded the middle finger over the ring finger, not within the topic but a little fact but in Deb''s original world they used to cut off this particular finger, as a whole/ a part or shorten it under the pinky according to medical advancement of the tribe or customs to signify that you''ve sworn a mate! What was more bizzare than that was the names that they called the finger! There was a reason he was sing.. Ahem. Back on topic, she folded the middle finger over that unmentionable finger and touched the nail of a pinky while marveling at her smooth hands. She checked but the outlook wasn''t particularly beautiful, red hair, grey eyes with prominent freckles with small lush lips, just average childhood village girl you crushed on first kind of looks. Well the fiery locks she trimmed by a very sharp knife to touch her ear lobes and the dull mystic lulling shift of her misty grey irises just added a touch of that mmph to it but only if you look real closely. A frock to mid-shin that screamed that it was turned to it''s current state from a pelt that couldn''t decide if it was fur or leather to be honest and feet bandaged upto mid thigh,ninja-style completed her outfit if you discount her armed status. The first few efils were really hard, Deb manged to snuff with some really grusome ways to go but few cycles later she found/created a skill, a feat accomplished by a select few even though it was sometimes not really astounding, just a extreme variant of what always existed. she named it, was now sitting proudly at the neo grade, just short of cosmos, was what laid the foundation of her long long and far journey. The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. A very simple skill that let''s you equip what you''ve already worn once by sacrificing a life, usually a monster''s. Under the skill grade of course. The creation with this few weaknesses was only eligible to be created because the glaringly obvious let-downs as such as skill only created at the Dud grade. Only a jumper had advantage of such a skill because well, if you''ve worn it once it was yours and unless stolen this wouldn''t come into play and the resources it took to grade up it to a single grade was not achievable in a single lifetime. It took numerous cycles before Deb managed to get crude clothes to cover up her privates. As of now in the cusp of breakthrough into the cosmos this was a game changer on the hands of a jumper. A log popped up at the set gesture and with a few taps she set out few commands she decided on before, the system was something she''d lived through but the world was not so simple as it was obvious that there were a lot, a Lot of various versions of systems existed as a co-dependent system of systems. A reason it was at the very end of the known variants of the flow Debbie hypothesized. Few familiar announcements came through as Deb finally reached the start of the grasslands. From here on ot was unknown territory. She has wiped the few weak(?) monsters that roamed the woods in exchange for the what she dubbed as starter kit, her current attire. Unlike before when she was on the move from the step she took into a world constantly ad-libing like a certain sparrow escaping and utilizing any given situation she had just sat there preparing trump card aftet trump card and considering her mental attributes, a week was a lot of time. Deb was taught very early in her first or real life the lesson, boredom kills. She saw, lived and wept at this truth but she was no wimp. Unknowns excited her. Civil servants never ascended. Combatants did. Living toe to toe with danger was second nature.

She stepped into the waist-high grass and crushed the ambushing lizardlings spine under her foot. Because she was now under a system the energy of the being was transferred to system before system rewrites her existance accordingly. But because now its just retracing carved footsteps the efficiency was crazy. She went twenty one levels up by crushing the mystic lurker lizard-ling of the eternal great prairie. Maybe that its level being in the hundreds helped. Deborah or just Deb, a young exile of a grassland survivalist tribe, a exile in which she should have perished ten steps from home is going to cross the grassland of the greats. But before that she should walk the length of a hemisphere in a very very large planet. Deb was going to take this slow. She will find out what makes this world tick. Its seams. Its glitches. Chapter 2
Grassland. There were a whole lot of names used to call this gigantic grassland. A very close knit location with the lore and the very roots of any tribe, clan or race of your choosing and was taught to be the root of life in many shamanic teachings. The great prairie was home to quite a few bipedal races although some of them hadn''t quite shed the animalistic features, and was known to be strong people, grassland wasn''t a very forgiving place. And all this was within the explored portion of the land, even exposed to civilization however questionable, it was a very commonplace sight to witness waging wars, stampedes, disposal of bodies and pretty much anything a lawless strong-eat-stronger kind of place could bring. And that was only the threats that walked on two legs.
Inkalum. Situated at the edge of the prairie inkalum was not quite a city or even a village. It was trade/guard post built around the border of a strong Empire, a alliance of a number of races. And at the center of it lay the barracks and immigration control-ish office of this world, headed by a strong officer worthy of the station here as the edge of grassland is always, a huge wide open liability. Travelers and wanderers, mercenaries and merchent-folk all passed through the close inspection here because if you are missing some documents and possess no records of basic system inspections followed through, there was the tendency to be ruthlessly hunted down by the forces of empire or heavily scrutinised upon entrance to a town and many other technicalities. The grassland was a good trade route if traversed through cleverly halving the time needed to deliver. It was worth it down the road to pass through here than to suffer later. The pseudo-fortress was on elevated ground facing the grassland of the greats and all other non govermental facilitiies stretched from it toward grassland leaving its back bare if you ignore the canals and defence mechanisms littered the ground. A grey haired woman sat at the table watching the various kinds of very noisy people pass by the passage built of rocks along the fort. She bore the highest rank in this border control station and was retiring next year, been serving here for a better part of her life. The next head she trained for about twenty five seasons had shaped up good but wasn''t strong enough to truly head the station but this years expedition may fix that, a couple of levels won''t do you harm. Well a few capable deputies would pull you over for a few seasons. In her career shikah had dealt with many things. What kept her at the frontier unlike many other ladies returning to marry and raise children and stabalize in life was the intersting aspect of this job, the things that went through in a day at this far from noble society. Unexpected people and their weird circumstances and the combat made her struggle to climb the ranks for the "stability" her colleagues searched for worthwhile. Especially the combat. Now she watched a few guards and a tribal looking little girl with roughed up exterior standing barefeet get into a awkward situation. She looked worn out and slightly hopeful and weirdly enough not the slightes bit nervous in front of the soldiers armed to the teeth getting frustrated at not being able to conform her intentions. Shikah stood up as one of the younger recruits pressed the hilt of his sword a second longer and witnessed following that his comrades go on alert as well while darting there. In a second she was there before things escalted furthur and saw that to her fascination few hilts had appeared around the girls attire at some unbelievable positions and she was holding a glistening stone-ish dagger was held blade side first by the little woman who dropped low to crouch. "At ease." With the short but sharp command soldiers stepped back and by turning her back to the girl shikah displayed that she was her friend. Turning without hesitation she was surprised to find the girl wasn''t in combat posture anymore and was stuffing the dagger into somewhere around her waist that wasn''t possible to view from the angle. The girl stutterd through a few dialects obviously trying to communicate and with luck the third one she tried was something Shikah knew, at least some of it. The language of the grassland was mostly grunts and spoken ooulala hoops not very surprisingly parts of one another. Because of the sheer amount of time shikah spent here she spoke quite a few, and it helped immensely at work too. She decided to add that to the bucketlist to teach the successor, something she missed. "What i do to walk through place?" "You not bad..You walk easy. You not..You don''t. " "You strong. You elder place?" "I sikah. You?" "I Debah. Call one Deb" "Strange name." "I, mother from here." Soldiers stood there astonished as they watched there old commander subsided and handled the situation and chatted with the red haired little girl. Because she would retire next year many new recruits just crowded around sucking up to the next head while it was mystery to them how the old fogeys and even the next commander respected the hag so much. The experienced hands knew how many times the "hag" stopped their safe haven from crumbling down as well as how many times she crumbled it down herself. Shikah was a veteran and commanded respect from people, not pups.A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. So the veterans watched in mild amusement as the old woman lead the girl by hand to her desk at back and slapped it to imply take a seat. Interestingly the short haired girl took that literally and sat down on the table placing her rust colored bandaged feet on top of the chair. Shikah grinned and sat beside her, the tables height just right her to slack her feet on the ground. "You, how old?" "I, ten and ten and ten and ten and four." "Fourty four seasons...barely eleven, Why you out tribe? You too young." Red haired girl looked flustered for a second and tapping her hand nervously on a knee she answered and tried to explain fumbling for reasons. "I...I outsider. Mother outsider. Elder not like. I strong. Elder not like. I system two mark. I adult. Elder kick I out." Shikah understood. Tribes were very closed off kind of societies. Outsiders or invaders often were killed on sight rather than communicating. Usually the next leading positions were passed on to the most talented young ones, and this particular elder must have felt nervous letting a outsider in to them. "But system know." "I kid." She tapped her chest. She then bent down to her knee to signify her height at the time. "Mother told I kid-I play. I carve bad stuff on elder home. I go out. I system two mark. I come back. Elder angry. I come back adult. I exiled." "From where?" "I walked long. I walked far. I hide big bad. I kill small bad. I walked one season. I tired. I felt calling. I here." Shikah''s eyes narrowed at the mention of the calling. It was a very rare phenomenon and this meant the red haired pipsqueak was special. If you think its a mystery why shikah had to intervene at the provocation (grassland people are very touchy) it was because Deb was very strong. For an example the new guard recruit was only around seventy levels in basic system. This was already very strong brought up in a soldier family and because of the levels in advanced systems they had enough ability and skills to vie for such a position. Deb had at least two hundred or two marks in basic system and living in the grasslands she had lived in a life and death situation from birth and it had done wonders for her combat experience and half the people on her would be dead before older people intervened. Even the next commander only had four marks in basic system and this was ridiculously strong for any station other than Inkalum. Well the standards have fallen over the years because less people risked there lives over a level anymore. When Shikah was stated a deputy here in inkalum she was already a ten mark. Shikah sighed. If she let go this very strong but very young chap walk she would be taken advantage of or she''d be killed. Shikah had a soft spot for young girls, her sister lost her daughter at six in a plague and because her sister was also infected, shikah took care of the young child in her final few days. At least her sister moved on and becausr of trauma had fifteen kids but the point is it left a impact on the old woman seeing how bad the young child wanted to live. She made a split second decision then and there. "I elder here. I responsible. Will check system if true, you agree."
Deb stared at her eyes for a very silent minute and nodded imperceptibly. So shikah took the childs hand gently and lead her up in to her quarters. There was the panel connecting identity recognition and criminal interrogation system of the empire sitting on a granite wall and she let go of the girl and stepped up front and placed her hand into the slot carved in a hand size square hole into the wall. Shikah smiled at the young girls widening of eyes looking at the granite changung real time to display her name, post and level. Even though she didn''t recognize the letters one could read the gist out of the system display because system is universal. "I want know you said true. If..I help." "You strong. More than elder. Like mother. She strong. Lots." Excitedly Deb walked up to shikah who still had her hand in wall and placed her hand in it as she stepped back. Shikah apologized in mind to the girl to what she was about to do. As the girl placed her hand there she secretly activated the memory overview of interrogation protocol and had a flash of the kids life at the back of her mind. Fighting. Loads of fighting. Anger felt toward the short stout man shikah persumed to be elder. Mother. Blurry outline, so strong, tribe was scared to confront her. Sudden dissapearance of mother after a hunt outside. Kids trying to beat her but she also too strong. Vandalising and lots of irritating pranks. Exiled. Broken memory bits were enough to shikah to paint the picture. She sighed again. System had recorded her crime as destroying of property and it only flashed yellow not red. So the village tricked her by exiling her when only some minor punishment administration will clear the "bad" status as the girl put it or it will in half a year. Unfortunate girl she might be but it really depends on the point of view. And that title blessed of earth was very high grade title..leaves one curious who her mother was. "You are true. I help you. You felt the calling that way?" Deb nodded. Shikah guessed so because of that title. There was a hole there six gallops toward and left to the mikha the next major city with mainly earth based monsters. "I finish work in two season. I leave then. Until i teach speak. I leave, you with me." Red haired girl looked suprised. Her grey eyes widened slightly and the dried blood on her face cracked. "You help me?" "I said so." "But you stranger. You not reponsible. You not care." "I old. I help young." "......." "You believe me?" "You was true for I. You strong. You no reason. I trust you. Now." "Smart girl." Smiling shikah rubbed the pipsqueak''s..Deborah''s head. It was going to be very enjoyable year. Shikah vandabona Heavily decorated general that rose from general soldier to commander. It was peaceful day in inkalum. After the hectic spring expedition was over the time flowed almost lazily and because of the lack of traffic, everyone liked to spent the first part of spring with family, even the soldiers got a half day shifts every other day. A lot of babymaking was underway too. Soil flew from a pit on the ground scoop after scoop. Deb was digging a grave. The young deputy was handling the wrapping the corpse and informing the relatives duty but in this case the deceased had no living relatives. The old man was someone kind who took care of Deb when she first joined the guard training teaching her the ropes so to speak, had been injured during the spring hunt had finally passed away, his age unable to keep up with the strain in his body. She was not particularly close with him to grieve but some respect would be appropriate given the occasion. So she asked them to leave it to her to dig saying she did a lot back her home. People were skeptical but the deputy who was the next in line for the head post gave her the go ahead, he had ben there when she hunted with old shikah. She pondered while keeping pace with digging. Deb was as a whole satisfied. She had secured a connection with a individual who is familiar with the societal norms and was a cut above the rest with pure strength plus had low-key authority as well for insurance and completed the foundation training physical and mental build she refined to be flawless across her career. With her "flawless foundation " She was now torn between specializing and all rounding, but the matter at hand was her abnormal level growth. Shikah was astonished when she told her that she grew to four mark while participating in the spring expedition. She took the time and kindly explained to Deb that, this kind of basic level growth was unheard of, the harder to raise the up you go and considering that Deb was without an advanced class system it was again astonishing with her age. Deb questioned shikah and learned that curiously this world called the advanced variants of the system modules classes. One never raised the basic system much nowadays because if they were someone who''s going to, they had access to a class by birthright. These systems were named according to skill sets and was sought after and protected furiously for their chosen group or clan. One could complete rare achievements and earn a module according to their build but this was very very rare and often not as powerful as existing mainstream systems. Shikah asked if she had any tribe only techniques practiced so sticking to her cover story she came up and demonstrated the dance of earth of her tribe. It was a ritual-looking dance that was light on her feet and heavy on her feet at the same time differentiating on the poses of extreme balnce manipulation, even handstands all the while earth bent toward the casters will. Old lady marveled at it and excitedly confessed she hadn''t witnessed quite the thing and asked if the dance was necessary step to mould earth. Deb just pulled back her leg and roundhouse kicked the air and a earth chunk leaped up and followed the arc and then sunk back again to the ground. Even though shikah was excited to find such a rare and practical battle art, believe her she''s seen a lot of can''t-be-used type, she reigned in her jubilation and first confirmed with Deb the threat level of her tribe. To her relief Deborah said that she was special and others needed at least ten to synchronise with each other to bring out such power and the tribe was very few people. And they lived in the uncharted territory so threat was nill. Her being so unique wasn''t much of a suprise considering the title she saw, even the so called top wouldn''t have such grade title, the most she''s seen someone born with was a mint grade. Honestly the little red haired girl was a suprise from the start. When she first arrived in fall she couldn''t even pronounce the general laguage but within few weeks she coherently spoke the general alner and now she spoke many soldier''s exotic mother tongue, and then once shikah thought it was odd that she spoke several grassland tribe-speaks. The girl picked up letters even faster because apparently having no contact with letters other than system made it easier to absorb. Checking if her crazy aptitude extended to combat shikah jokingly taught her the self-developed style of her own creation to her and in three days she picked up the whole thing even going as far as to personalize it with her own. Deborah was one of a kind and as she was so herself ,shikah did her darndest to polish the kid''s talent. As they got to know each other, Deb found shikah a very easy going person who didn''t mind not speaking a lot and shikah found out the little pepper had a very mature temperament and tendency go wild sometimes, something they had in common. So they nodded to each other and went crazy during the spring hunt, aimed to cull the monster population near inkalum while the soldiers to scrambled to keep up with them. Shikah observed amusedly how Deb watched everything, including her and picked up trickes and techniques that were par for the course in a rapid pace. A little genius she fondly concluded. This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author''s work. Shikah knew what a terrifying thing a eleven and a half kid with four hundred and thirty seven basic levels represented for the softer parts of the world. Bright as the ignus in learning and disbelievingly fast in the system leveling, many unwanted attention would be drawn if she walked into the empire as of now, considering the spies placed here in the fort had already reported, shikah was sure, to their higher stations. Deb had no classes binded and nobody knew how many slots she had and what system choices would be available to her. If they could mould her into some thing or tool Deb would be a boon for many clans and organizations here in the empire, even outside. But shikah promised the young child she''d help. So that was what she was going to do. She had spent a lifetime here at the frontier. But it didn''t mean she had zero connections.
Deb finished the final touches of the grave. Here in magnolia they digged the graves in a oval shape. The egg symbolising a new beginning. Using her earth arts she expertly carved the grave into a beautiful symmetrical perfection something unachievable by just a shovel. The rest of the evening flew by and Deb placidly observed the funeral as the standard funeral rites were performed. Incredibly the deceased was so old even shikah called him gramps. The atmosphere felt nostalgic to Deb as she too has died many times. After the old coots who came to send their comrade off dragged their feet to a tavern, Deb met Shikah at her office because she called. It was a bit strange because they slept together in Shikah''s private quarters. "What''s up shikah?" The paper pusher soldier scribblling at a document stopped and glared at Deb for a second before reminding himself of the place went back to work. "It is sky. You have earned the mark of valour for your achievements in the hunt." Oh, Deb realised. This was a official occasion and that explains why that clerk glared enviously at her. Mark of valor was the honory "MVP" of a hunt of sorts. But it wasn''t only limited to single person, any number of men could gain it if their performance was satisfactory and the judge was the system. Well spring expedition was one such "event" to be exact. "I graciously accept." Link Deborah. Mark of valor imprinted. Title earthmancer gained. Title prodigy gained. Corrections applied accordingly. Startled Deb looked back from where she was placing her hand on the carved wall. The grey haired woman looked much younger when she smiled gently at her while scratching her head. "Always wanted to be a mother..kinda.. you know.." Deb just stared at her with wide eyes. Shikah braced herself for the rejection that was imminent. Deb turned back to the wall and clenched her fist. Kinship accepted. Individual Deborah Vandabona recorded. Bond formed. Instantly they could feel each others lives worth of feelings flash by. They felt everything that felt from the day they were born till this very moment. Shikah stepped forward and grabbed the girl who was trying to shrink in to her self and forcefully evicted the onlooker who was cluless to what happened as the system window was only visible to her as the authorized link holder and the user. She could feel how shaken Deb was at the moment so without a second thought she lifted up the girl and pressed her head to her own chest. Deb could feel the exhilaration and the warm glow of happiness of acceptance from shikah. A jumper could never accept any kin bonds with a dweller. This was absolute. It was because this that "they" were always alone, no matter where even among her own kind. Isolated and choked up for life. Her first ever family. Even in his first life they were beings born from a concept so just parent concepts. No family.
They didn''t speak. Deborah reveled in the warmth while shikah slowly paced the room. If a few wet drops stained her back Deb didn''t speak out loud. The creak of the floor accompanied while the dying sun shed light on them from the glass panes of the stone window. Title effects(Persona Deborah) ¡îBlessed of earth (niche) Beloved of the element.
