《This Troublesome Adventure》
Prologue: The unfortunate otheworlder
¡°So, you decided to show up huh?¡±
¡°Wha..? Who are you? Where am- ¡¡±
¡°Shush, you¡¯re already late as it is, now hurry up and put this uniform on and stop wasting time.¡±
Ah... I think this person has mistaken me for someone else I better clear this misunderstanding up quickly.
¡°Uhh, There seems to be a misunderstanding here.¡±
¡°What misunderstanding.¡±
Oh crap, I don¡¯t like the look on his face, he looks pretty agitated. It¡¯s only been like 10 seconds and his already glaring at me. He looks like an army drill sergeant.
¡°Uh I think you might have the wrong person, I¡¯m actually-¡±
¡°No point in getting shaky knees now kiddo, you signed up for this, it¡¯s a matter of Angelic integrity.¡±
¡°What? Angelic integrity? No I¡¯m-¡±
¡°Yes, Angelic integrity, look, *Ahem* I see you¡¯re low on money, you¡¯re the skinniest Angel I have ever seen, I¡¯m guessing after you graduated from the Angel Academy, you probably haven¡¯t found a job. You should stick to your first job even if you¡¯re scared alright? Now hurry up boy. We don''t have all day. Hey, you two, help him get dressed and send him on his way.¡±
2x ¡°Yes God!¡±
What? God? Hang on Angel Academy? Am I in heaven? But I¡¯m a human? Am I dead? No that can¡¯t be right ¡ Also, who are these guys?
Woah they are chubby, like really short and chubby, reminds me of Oompa Loompas but fatter. Are they perhaps Angels since they follow this so called ¡®God¡¯ guy? Where¡¯s their wings then, don¡¯t angels have wings? This tale has been unlawfully lifted without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon.
Ah there they are, damn they are small¡ Wait a minute! Is this a joke? Am I being pranked on? Those tiny ass wings are like the little angel costume my 8 year old niece would wear for halloween.
Dammit, while I was preoccupied thinking about those stupid Angels, they¡¯ve put the uniform on¡
How¡¯d they do that!?
Hmmm... I don¡¯t look half bad, but why do I look like a waiter tho?
¡°Hey old man, I really don¡¯t even know what I¡¯m doing. I¡¯m actually from-¡±
¡°That¡¯s God to you young man. But yes, I suppose I should explain your work huh.¡±
¡°No that¡¯s not that I mean, I meant-¡±
¡°Well it¡¯s simple work, just go monitor the life in the new world I govern, its fairly young, about 1000 years old, just travel around and send me yearly reports and that¡¯ll be all, don¡¯t bother me with troublesome stuff, I don¡¯t care as long as the world doesn¡¯t end.¡±
Goddammit, stop interrupting me you old pile of bones!
¡°No, I¡¯m not-¡±
¡°Yes, yes, I¡¯m sure you have questions but it¡¯s actually quite an easy job so don¡¯t worry. Just keep things in check huh. Ah here, have some of my blessing before you head down to the mortal world, it should keep you safe.
Oh, and here, keep this medallion with you, if you show it at any major temple, you can use their pray system to send the reports.¡±
¡°¡¡±
I am speechless, his actually perfectly interrupting and ignoring me this whole time, if nothing else, his ability to do this is definitely God like.
¡°Look, the thing is, I don¡¯t think I¡¯m the guy you¡¯re looking for, I¡¯m not even an Annnnnnnnnnnnnn-!!!¡±
¡°Huh, was he saying something? Oh well, the transportation system seems to have sent him on his way. Ah finally, with all the work has being assigned now I can sit back and relax.¡±
~*~
And so, without a care in the world, a young man from Earth was sent to a different world, mistaken as an angel, to do God¡¯s work. Let¡¯s begin an otherworldly adventure!
~*~
¡°nnnnn¡ahhhhhhhhhhh¡!!!¡±
*BOOM!* *splat*
~*~
In the middle of a clearing in a forest, a body lands with quite the impact. The body lays still, unmoving. Gradually liquid spreads out from the body.
Chapter 1: Mr Jolly Slime!
Well hello there, it is I! The Slime! I know what you¡¯re thinking, oh the generic slime in a fantasy world, but that''s where you¡¯re wrong! I¡¯m no ordinary slime, unlike those who live lazily and feed off critters and scraps. No no no. I am an adventurous slime! Today I¡¯m exploring this new part of the forest, the great clearing! Of course I need to be prepared before I step foot in that place, it could be dangerous you know? I mean I just heard a huge noise coming from over there!
Let¡¯s see, let¡¯s see.
Slime.
Check.
Ok I¡¯m prepared, let¡¯s go!
~*~
Ooo what''s that~?
In the distance I see a body laid down on the ground.
Oh no, is it a person? I hope it¡¯s not an Adventurer, although I am adventurous myself, those Adventurers however seem to hate us slimes, even if we don¡¯t do any harm to them! They just come attack us anyways, what gives¡
But I am brave, I¡¯m an adventure slime afterall!Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
I see a rock near it, let¡¯s go hide behind it and observe a little.
Hmmm Hmmm, yes, it seems to be sleeping? But his legs and arms do look weird for a person.
And sleeping in a red puddle? That¡¯s unusual but what would i know, i¡¯m a slime afterall.
Wait a minute. Could it be blood? Could that be a corpse instead?
I approach the body and upon a closer look, it¡¯s a young man, I think? His head is smashed like a rotten tomato that someone dropped on the floor. How terrible¡
Oh well, I really can¡¯t sympathize with him, we are technically ¡®enemies¡¯ after all.
Let¡¯s eat him! Especially the head, that''s the yummiest part. Us monsters get stronger every time we devour something stronger than us, and as a slime, we rarely get an opportunity like this.
Hehe im getting giddy just thinking about what power up i could obtain!
Alrighty, time to dig in!
*nom nom nom* [in reality the slime is dissolving the head slowly]
{bing! You have obtained otherworldly knowledge and God¡¯s blessing!}
Oooh! I have no idea what was said in my head but it looks like I got something.
Well I¡¯m so full now I can¡¯t eat up the rest of the body.
Let¡¯s come back tomorrow and finish up, time to head home.
I turned around back towards the forest and made my way home.
¡°Ahhh, finally, something to eat¡¡±
I suddenly hear a voice when-
¡°Fire Shot!¡±
¡
¡°Agh, good, it hit, I can finally have some food after starving for a whole week. Roasted slime¡ whatever, at least it will fill me up.¡±
{bing! You have obtained otherworldly knowledge and God¡¯s blessing!}
¡°... what?¡±
Chapter 2: The Slimes Killer (1)
Slightly before the events.
I finally made it past the mountains, when all I can see is a sea of trees spread out as far as the eyes can see. Such greenery never existed in the white desert mountain where I grew up. Such beauty.
However i really hope there is an abundance of food there as rumours would perceive. For the past 4 days, I traversed up and past the mountain peaks, and now that I''m on the downclimb, I have ran out of my provisions and there are barely any food on this barren side of the mountain. Just jagged terrain and moss spread amongst boulders like covering them with a blanket.
Was it a mistake going down this way? No. My mentor spoke the truth, although I heard rumours of lands with abundance of resources before, he confirmed those rumours and guided me in this direction, but I would never have imagined it was over these very mountains.
I think it will take 3 more days before I can arrive down to the foot of the mountains and into the forest below. Perhaps I¡¯ll try and conserve my energy and move slowly from now on. I will also ditch some of my clothes to lighten the load, since I was told the weather in the forest should be much warmer.
I folded my heavy woolen clothing and placed them in a crevice amongst rocks and made my journey down the mountain towards the ¡®green sea¡¯.
~*~
On my way down the mountains, as I got closer to the edge of the forest, I noticed a clearing, I decided to head there after I enter the forest.Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.
¡°Amazing¡¡±
I unconsciously leaked out a word of amazement, for the first time in my life, I have never seen such a wonderful scene, golden rays of light piercing through clouds of green, every part of the beautiful forest lit up as if glowing. Luxurious greenery spread all over, covering browned trunks with spots of white, dense aged leaves and branches covered the ground, tree roots sprawled, climbing over each other as if one entire entity.
Taking a moment to breathe in the beautiful scene in front of me, I notice little disks of red and orange covering a root near the base of a tree. Perhaps this is the rumoured mushroom! I heard my mentor dislikes them, for they would give him some dizziness after he tried them once, but he had seen other beings harvest them, perhaps for eating as well.
I decided to pick one and try it, it doesn¡¯t seem harmful.
I swallowed my saliva in anticipation, it is afterall, the first meal I¡¯ll have after 3 and a half days of traversing down the mountains.
I cleared my throat and threw the whole thing in my mouth.
¡°Puuuuh! Yuck what is this taste? It''s like eating soft tree bark, do other beings really eat this?¡±
I continued to spit out the contents in my mouth, I can¡¯t imagine this being edible, no wonder why my mentor did not take a liking to them.
Now. Let¡¯s find some animals instead, meat is always tasty, especially after roasting over a fire. Hopefully I can catch one and remove the lingering bitterness from my mouth.
I continued to make my way towards the clearing.
~*~
About 1 hour has past since I begin looking for potentially edible animals while going in the direction of the clearing when painful dizziness hit me.
My head is spinning, uncontrollably I collapsed on the spot, my body feels hot and sweat begin covering my entire body.
I couldn¡¯t muster any energy, the dizziness continues to assault and my body starts to shake. What is happening to my body?
It¡¯s similar to the time I came down with an illness after being exposed to the extreme cold. However It is not cold at all right now and I didn¡¯t shake uncontrollably like this.
I checked my personal information page in my head.
Ah, I have being poisoned.
Soon after, I passed out.
Chapter 3: The Slimes Killer (2)
*BOOM!*
¡°Uuuuuhhhh¡¡±
Woken by a loud sound of impact in the distance, I slowly regained my conscience.
My body still feels sluggish, I first check my status page, the poison seemed to have stopped.
That¡¯s good, but hang on a second, the time stamp... I slept for a whole 3 days?
*Guuuuuuuu*
As if waiting for his que of appearance. The stomach grumbles at the perfect timing.
Just as one worry ends another one begins.
¡°I- hungry-¡±
I can barely string a sentence together with my mouth, however I must gather my energy and soldier on no matter what, if I don¡¯t eat soon, I¡¯ll definitely starve to death.
In my surroundings I spot a shrubbery nearby, I stagger to my feet, supporting myself against a nearby tree trunk. I looked for some younger branches and leaves of the shrub and begin chewing.
After finishing off a few branches, it did not feel like it would satisfy my hunger in any way, however I knew it could at least provide a little bit of sustenance for a while longer.
~*~The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Finally I reached the clearance, another beautiful scenery struck me, this time with its simplicity.
A mello green field of grass spread out with bits of rocks laying around. Simple yet elegant. I could find myself relaxing immediately.
No. That can come later, first I must find food.
As I advanced into the clearing I spot what appears to be a slime near what appears to be a headless corpse of a person.
¡°Ahhh, finally, something to eat¡¡±
Oops, I accidently spoke the moment I was so relieved in seeing something edible.
Before it notices me, I readied a magic spell and fired at the slime.
¡°Fire Shot!¡±
...
¡°Agh, good, it hit, I can finally have some food after starving for a whole week. Roasted slime¡ whatever, at least it will fill me up.¡±
As I approached the slime.
¡°It is quite large for a slime.¡± I muttered.
Since slimes that I know of existed in the white desert region and on the mountain as well, but much smaller, paler and grey in colour.
Now let¡¯s eat!
...
Ah, just like the slimes I remember, it did not have any taste at all, extremely bland¡ the good news is my stomach does feel full now. This reminds me of during my training period when I often feasted on them.
{bing! You have obtained otherworldly knowledge and God¡¯s blessing!}
¡°... what?¡±
To my surprise, an unfamiliar voice popped in my head, the voice sounded female, yet she spoke blandly, as if no interest, almost systematic like a machine.
¡
Hang on, what is the meaning of systematic, and what¡¯s a machine? How do I suddenly know these words.
¡°Fuu. I must be tired.¡±
I breathed out a sentence under my breath as I begin finding cover next to a nearby rock.
I think I¡¯ll take a rest since I have finally filled my stomach, I¡¯ll check my status and organise everything tomorrow.
~*~
Unknowest by the unknown starving magic user, the minds that possessed otherworld knowledge begins integrating with his own through the night, yes, including the slime. Their personalities slowly combined...
Chapter 4: Regret and
¡°Agh, turn the lights off, just 5 more minutes.¡±
¡
I suddenly open my eyes from my own groans.
This is¡ I feel ¡ odd?
Just 5 more minutes? I... that doesn¡¯t sound like me, what does that even mean? Yet it doesn¡¯t feel unnatural.
¡°Oh well!¡±
I shrug my worries away and got up on my feet and started some morning stretches.
¡°Ahh such a beautiful morning.¡± I said while stretching my back.
¡°the sun is out, birds are chirping, the trees dancing and-¡±
I take in a deep breath, ¡°this refreshing forest air, nothing can be more soothing than this. You can never get this kind of fresh air in the city.¡±
...
In the city? I never came from a city, wait, I did live in a city, wait¡ what¡¯s going on? My memory is playing up? No that can¡¯t be possible. But it doesn¡¯t feel unnatural at all, but it feels weird just like the moment I woke up.Support the author by searching for the original publication of this novel.
¡°Agh, ok ok!¡±
I quickly slap my cheeks and cleared my mind.
¡°Fuuuu.¡±
I took another deep breath and breathed out.
Ok first, I started feeling weird this morning, my memories feels jumbled up. Let¡¯s backtrack to yesterday.
So I arrived at the plains after starving for a week and ate a slime...
¡°Oh that''s right!¡±
I just remembered, this odd voice popped into my head after I ate the slime and I planned to check my status after I slept.
¡°Let¡¯s see let¡¯s see.¡±
I pulled open my own status window in my mind, going over and looking for changes, I notice Otherworldly Knowledge and Blessing of God added. These were exactly the same as what was mentioned by the systematic sounding voice.
I look into what the Otherworldly Knowledge meant first.
//Otherworldly Knowledge - Knowledge obtained from a person belonging to a complete different world named Earth. The knowledge includes anything and everything the person has experienced before their death, their memories, as well as the person¡¯s personality. Any being obtaining the knowledge will retain their own original knowledge, memories and personality and take on the additional knowledge, memories and personality creating a mix.
Special note: The skill is unique and can be passed on if the being holding the skill is consumed.//
I see, so this is why I obtained this odd skill, this also explains the odd feelings I¡¯ve had since I woke up. So basically I have 2- no 3 personalities and memories mixed together¡
¡°NOOOO!¡±
I clutch my head in thought.
Wait wait wait wait wait wait.
Does that mean I¡¯m part slime now? I gained personalities and memories of a slime?
¡
Chapter 5: Whatever
After calming down I accepted my fate, there is nothing I can do about it, technically the slime did save my life, because I would of starved to death if it were not for it being in my belly.
Let¡¯s be positive! Let¡¯s be thankful.
¡°Ok. Next!¡±
I continued and checked the second newly added skill;
//Blessing of God - You have met with God and obtained his blessing, you are currently under the employ of God and is tasked with a yearly reporting duty as an observer of his world. Don¡¯t include any unnecessary details in the report, keep the report short and simple if possible, don¡¯t bother God with troublesome stuff, don¡¯t-
¡
//
This God of the world sounds extremely troublesome, I hope I don¡¯t have to deal with him, but by the looks of it, the young man who is now dead was an agent of God who was sent here to do God¡¯s work. How did he die so easily if he was God¡¯s chosen worker?
I continued to read the skill description which included quite a few don¡¯ts and complains about the report¡ but skipping through at the end it mentions bonuses to the person with the skill.
// ¡®Well you get to not die easily, something like getting lucky and cheating dangers including death.¡¯
{warning: luck on some side will remove luck from other aspects.} //
...
Aside from the incomprehensible warning, this is basically granting luck to the blessed person, allowing them to stay relatively safe while doing the job.
After reading over the weird new skills, I decided on a plan for the rest of the day.
First I should look through the corpse of ¡°God¡¯s worker¡± and see if there is any belongings or objects I need to take if I am technically taking over the job for him.
¡°I guess I will mention the death of the worker and the reason behind how I obtained the blessing and continued the work in the yearly report.¡±
¡°Uguh, that¡¯s quite unappealing.¡±
Reaching the corpse, I was surprised. It was in a worse state than I previously thought, the arms bent around and mangled, the legs looked soft and floppy rather than rigid. The headlessness with the dried blood surrounding it just made the whole scene more daunting.Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.
I proceed to rummage through the clothing, feeling slightly weird with small snippets of memory surfacing relating to the clothing as I filter the pockets. So this seems to be the uniform God has given to the worker in his world and it is brand new when it was worn.
¡°Oh right, there was a medallion.¡± Amongst the surfacing memories was a medallion presented by God, I managed to find it in the shirt pocket. Scanning my newly obtained memories slightly, I gather the medal signifies the ¡®God¡¯s worker¡¯ title and allows me to enter various temples.
Nothing else should be with the body, in that case I will go ahead and bury it, it would be respectful towards the being who technically imparted his knowledge to me.
¡°Although I¡¯ve obtained slightly more than just knowledge.¡± I murmured a complaint as I moved the body.
~*~
¡°Ok! Now that the body is buried, time to hunt some animals for food!¡±
Looking around the clearing, it doesn¡¯t look like there would be any luck here, so I begin moving towards the forest again.
As I got closer to the edge of the clearing, I spot movement in the distance.
A Wood Turkey! I could see the outline perfectly, and to my surprise, the slime¡¯s knowledge actually helped, it had knowledge of various monsters so I¡¯m now even more thankful.
I ready my basic attack magic ¡®Fire Shot¡¯ and take aim, a basic magic like this that I¡¯ve used countless times has the best control and the easiest to aim.
¡°Fire Shot!¡±
The fireball that shot out of the palm of my hand soared at the Wood Turkey in the distance and hit it dead on.
¡°Woo! Roast Turkey for lunch!¡±
I got excited as I started jogging towards my catch.
As I got close to the Turkey I slowed down, not due to happiness but a major failure on my part.
Because I never actually hunted one of these with magic, it''s completely charred¡
¡°Dammit!¡±
Hoping my previous burst did not scare away too many animals, I tried various techniques and methods to hunt with the remaining time I had.
~*~
After hunting animals down, I returned to the clearing with the spoils of 2x Wood Turkeys and 1x Bush Rabbit. Although it took a while, I¡¯m actually quite proud of myself learning the ways of hunting these unfamiliar monsters.
I cleaned up the harvest and roasted them all. Of course I used better controlled fire spell this time. Not having my lunch charred twice stupid.
~*~
¡°Fuuu.¡±
A breath of satisfaction after finishing off the rabbit and one of the turkeys for lunch.
I sat with my back against a rock.
I closed my eyes in deep thought.
I¡¯ve solved my food situation since I gained knowledge of different animals.
I think I¡¯ll go through my memories and make full use of my new gained knowledge and figure out what to do after this.
Most of all, I am quite interested in this otherworldly knowledge, I wonder what will the contents be?
~*~
And so the entire afternoon was spent going through the knowledge before I fell asleep.
Kind of.
Chapter 6: What to do, What to do
After spending yesterday''s afternoon going through the knowledge from another world called Earth, I was overwhelmed.
To summarize, it was a world full of history, knowledge, technology, advancements in every area I could imagine. The people lived in peace, they lived in strong houses, some rising high towards the skies and into the clouds, these sky high buildings were so abundant, they were like trees in a forest. Food was the most unbelievable, there were cooking methods I could never have imagined to be possible to be used to prepare food.
It seemed like paradise.
I was so excited I barely slept a wink last night, yet this morning I didn¡¯t feel tired at all, I was motivated!
The most unbelievable thing was the world had no magic, magic was non existent in every aspect, it was a fictional theory in the other world, often written in books, also many stories in books depicted worlds like my very own, full of magic, unique races and monsters.
This is it, perhaps it was fate, I want to use the knowledge and improve life of my own world, improve life for every living race, perhaps receiving God¡¯s blessing also pointed towards this feeling.
I will study and apply the technology of the other world to my own world, and spread the technology tribe by tribe, country by country and land by land. I shall travel the continents and share these wonderful discoveries.
¡
¡°Orrrrrr...¡±
Let¡¯s just make my own life easier!
I did live a life like that of a hermit with my mentor, maybe I¡¯ll go travel the world, see many things, use the knowledge to make my life a bit comfortable.
¡°But, if I do that, what if I people notice all the new stuff I invented and then come and recruit me for various purposes like business or worse war potential!¡±
No no no, maybe I should just do things carefully.
No no no, if I am constantly worry about what I do daily I¡¯ll die of self exhaustion!
Then let¡¯s be a Hero! Wait no, even better, a King! So I can do what I want!
Wait that won''t work¡ I have no idea how to do that in the first place.
¡°AGHHHHH! Whatever! Useless brooding over this and waste more time.¡±
I said while shaking my head, might as well just travel and have some fun, and start and deal with the troublesome things later.Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation.
I mean the task of doing work for the God is to just observe his world anyways.
And so I checked my belongings and packed the leftover turkey from yesterday and made my way to the forest.
~*~
¡°I am an idiot¡¡±
After wandering the forest for about an hour, I voiced my disappoint.
I have absolutely no idea where the next village or town of any race would be.
My mentor spoke of other races, the Elvins, the Dwarvins, the Humankind, the Beastmankind and some rarer races including my own existed. I only have ever met Humankind before, they were adventurers wondering on my mentor¡¯s domain. They were expelled by my mentor though, so it was often brief meetings.
Now that I think about it¡ the books and stories from Earth that depicted a world similar to my own had equivalent names for the races as well, Elvins were called Elfs, Dwarvins were Dwarves, Humankind were Humans, it seemed the corpse was also of this race, and Beastmankind were Beastman.
¡ so similar.
¡°I wonder what I would be in the other world¡¯s stories.¡±
I pondered, since I am quite a rare race according to what I was told by my mentor.
I am of an Ogrekin race according to stories my mentor often told to me as a child, my race are a small isolated community, living in the white desert area or known as snow country.
They are a gentle race often living a nomadic hunting life, however they produce fierce fighters and mages that can survive harsh cold conditions. The unique traits of the Ogrekin race were they had a single or dual horns protruding from their foreheads, composed of a rare and beautiful crystalline material in different colours like that of a rainbow. They also possessed strong affinities with fire and dark magic elements. I myself am quite versed in fire magic but not so well in terms of dark magics. I did however gain light magic abilities after training with mentor.
I heard my tribe would often go to war with Humankinds due to the Humankinds¡¯ desire of harvesting our crystal horns. They were sold at high prices, especially to the rich who buy them as ornement. Sometimes they would even capture children as slaves, raise them up so they can harvest a larger horn when they turned adult.
Everytime I hear the story to this point I could feel my stomach drop, although I was abandoned as a child due to my unusual shot stub of a horn of no colour, similar to a diamond from Earth, I never experienced this tragedy personally but I was still an ogrekin, their suffering would bring anger to any sane person that had even a shed of compassion with living beings.
¡°How I wish there were no slavery and cruelty just like Earth.¡±
I voiced while thinking up to this point, if I remember correctly, Earth also had a slavery period but great people in history fixed the issue and up to the point of the last memory I gained, slavery did not exist anymore.
¡°Well that was a President, equivalent of a king, someone like that surely can end slavery, but I guess I¡¯ll just do my part instead, no use doing what I can¡¯t do.¡±
I decided to first simply be myself and figuring out what to do.
¡°Oh a stream is up ahead, perfect, I was feeling a bit thirsty.¡±
While daydreaming I notice a water stream. Having only satisfied my thirst from water held in tree trunks and crevices previously, I decide to freshen myself at the water stream.
¡°Ah.¡±
As I leaned in towards the stream and seeing my own reflection, I somehow noticed right away.
¡°I would be called a demon race in a fantasy story from Earth.¡±
My skin was quite pale with a pink-red shade, with bright crimson eyes. Perhaps maybe even a Vampire if I had pointy teeth.
Anyways, enough of my random thoughts and depressing stories.
¡°Where to go after this.¡±
I gulped down the water from the stream until-
¡°Ahhhhhhh! Help!¡±
A screaming voice was heard amongst the trees.
Chapter 7: The B?e?a?u?t?y? Idiot and the Beast (1)
I quickly wiped my mouth and surveyed the surroundings for abnormalities.
¡°Ah.¡±
I spot a cloud of dust in the distance and what appears to be a person running upstream from my right side.
¡°Help meeee! Please HELP!¡±
A teary eyed girl is sprinting full force towards my direction, a large beast can be spotted behind her, it appears to be a Horhog, a giant rhino looking beast with a boar¡¯s facial features including the trademark fangs and snout.
According to the knowledge from the slime, the hide of the Horhog is extremely tough, they are usually docile creatures but if angered, they are unstoppable.
¡°Wow the trees are like sticks to that beast.¡±
The speed and power of the beast caused me to admire it but I must figure out a plan before the girl gets closer so I can have a chance to help and save her at least.
¡°Please help me!¡±
Maybe if I make a trap? No that would take too long...
¡°I don¡¯t want to die!¡±
Maybe I¡¯ll try and make it trip? Actually I don¡¯t think that will work with the way it''s knocking over trees like that¡
¡°Please¡¡±
I turned around to look for a potential solution.
¡°Ah! Maybe that could wor-¡±
*Smack*
¡°Ugh!¡±
A palm sized rock drills into the back of my head, leaving a perfectly swollen bump.
¡
I look again towards the girl getting chased¡
¡°(Ah, oops.)*¡± *unknown girl quietly whispers
¡°Oh um¡ it wasn¡¯t me...¡±
¡ her eyes are swimming in the most obvious manner possible.Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
¡°It was clearly you!? You have more rocks in your hand!¡±
¡°Ah this? This is- ok fine I did throw a rock, but I didn¡¯t actually mean to hit you, I thought you didn''t notice. I was just trying to get your attention!¡±
Why is she yelling at me instead?
And also-
¡°... oi-¡±
They are getting closer and closer, wait, hang on a minute!
¡°Oi oi OI! WHY ARE YOU RUNNING TOWARDS ME WITH THAT THING CHASING YOU!¡±
¡°I don¡¯t know! I thought you could help!¡±
¡°No no no. Now we both need help because of you!¡±
I start raising my voice at her while running, goddammit this stupid girl, now I have gotten dragged into this mess as well.
¡°Hey maybe if we keep running it will get tired and stop chasing us?¡±
thi- this idiot...
¡°Yea because we won¡¯t get tired at all right?¡±
¡°We won¡¯t?¡±
¡°I¡¯m being sarcastic you idiot!¡±
¡°... I¡¯m sorry.¡±
Ah, her voice is tracing off. I feel kinda bad now.
No, focus, let''s think of a way out of this.
I spot a large boulder slightly further ahead towards the left, maybe¡
¡°Hey you.¡±
¡°Wh-who me?¡±
¡°Yes you, I mean there¡¯s no one else here besides us¡¡±
¡°...¡±
¡°Anyways listen, I have a plan, see the dried leaves laying around on the forest floor?¡±
¡°Yea?¡±
¡°Pick up a big bundle of them as we keep running towards that big boulder up ahead on the left.¡±
¡°I don¡¯t see how a bundle of leaves can help us?¡±
¡°... just pick up a bundle and stop worrying!¡±
This girl¡
¡°Ok is this enough?¡±
Oh that was fairly quick, she¡¯s now hudling a bundle of dried leaves in her arms.
¡°Yea that¡¯s a good amount, ok now listen to me carefully. When we get close to that big boulder, on my signal, throw that bundle of leaves behind us towards the Horhog, then make your best effort to jump to the side. Got it?¡±
¡°*nod nod* ok!¡±
I hope she understands... Anyways there is no time, we¡¯re almost approaching the boulder.
I turn around to check on the Horhog, it is still definitely on our tail.
I ready a fire spell and waited while running¡
¡°Ok, NOW! Throw the leaves!¡±
¡°Here!¡±
She threw the leaves on que, the leaves quickly scatter in front of the beast behind us¡
¡°Fire shot!¡±
I shoot my spell at the leaves and they suddenly burst into flames and a momentary fire and smoke screen covers the Horhog.
We both quickly jump to the sides before the boulder, however the Horhog did not hesitate, it¡¯s vision was blocked by the smoke screen we created and it¡¯s velocity did not decrease at all.
*Kaboom!*
A loud collision is heard and rocks and dust begin raining down, I quickly covered my head and waited for the havoc to settle.
After the cloud of dust dissipated I got up.
¡°Fuuu, looks like it worked.¡±
I breathed a sigh of relief at the scene, the giant boulder was smashed, however the Horhog who ran into it was knocked out spectacularly, although it received minimal damage it did snap one of its larger horns at its snout¡
What a fearsome beast.
Chapter 8: The B?e?a?u?t?y? Idiot and the Beast (2)
While looking at the fallen beast with admiration.
¡°Wait maybe I should kill it before it wakes up and recognise us again.¡±
I decided to end its life peacefully, as I bend down towards the Horhog-
¡°Oh thank you! Thank you! Thank you!¡±
A snot covered girl crashes into my side¡
¡°Careful! I have a dagger out.¡±
I warned as I try to push her away.
¡°Ah! I¡¯m sorry, I was just overwhelmed that we made it out alive, I thought I would of definitely died.¡±
I proceed to stab the Horhog in the brain and finished with slitting its throat while the girl apologise.
¡°Yea who¡¯s fault was it that it turned into ¡®we¡¯ *sigh* ¡
Anyways, no problem, I was going to try and help before hand until i got hit by a rock.¡±
¡°I¡¯m really sorry¡¡±
¡°It¡¯s fine it¡¯s fine, now help me move this thing, it''s almost nightfall, I want to harvest some meat for meals before it gets dark. I also don¡¯t want to say here, the blood will attract other beasts.¡±
¡°Ah, yes, I will help.¡±
I continued skin the Horhog and cut out a chunk of its ribs and a slab of its belly meat.
¡°Wow, thats a Mythite Dagger, those are extremely rare! Such a pretty aqua colour...¡±
¡°Really?¡±
I never noticed, my mentor gave me this for harvesting. It is quite a good knife, it barely needed sharpening even after all these years of use.
¡°Yea! It''s really expensive! I¡¯m not sure how you got it. Also it usually takes several quality steel knives to just carve the hide off a Horhog, but you¡¯ve almost finished it in one go!¡±
True, I knew the hide was tough watching it crash into trees and breaking them, but my knife cut through it with relative ease and it¡¯s also the first time i¡¯ve met this animal.
¡°You are really good at harvesting, so maybe you¡¯re a rich hunter? But you can also use fire magic.¡±
¡°No I¡¯m just a wanderer with no plans yet. I learned methods of harvesting through trial and error.¡±Support the creativity of authors by visiting the original site for this novel and more.
¡°That¡¯s amazing!¡±
¡°Yea¡¡±
She doesn¡¯t know I actually don¡¯t know how to hunt these new animals I met, I just got lucky! Lets not tell her I burnt my first attempt¡
¡°I¡¯m a hunter and gatherer for my village myself hehe.¡±
She does seem happy while harvesting.
I continued to cut off the hind legs, this should be enough for a few days.
I tied up the legs with a nearby vine and packed the rib and belly cuts with fairly large leaves found nearby.
¡°Ok, that¡¯s that done, so what will you be doing?¡±
¡°Oh, um wait. You¡¯re not going to harvest anything else?¡±
¡°Not really, this should last a few days of food provisions.¡±
¡°Actually, with a lot of the parts left, people harvest and sell them at a high price you know? As you¡¯d probably have seen the hide is extremely tough, so it can be used with leather to make high quality leather armour, the horn and teeth of the Horhog is often used to make components for various tools and such. They¡¯re also quite desirable.¡±
¡°I see. I¡¯m surprised you know so much¡±
¡°Well of course, I am a good hunter afterall!¡±
The girl puffs her chest out triumphantly but keeps glancing at me¡
Does she want a reaction?
I proceed to ignore her antics and thought about it.
It does sound interesting, however with the knowledge from Earth, they also had tools in ancient times using animal parts, but the newer technologies I want to investigate doesn¡¯t need any.
¡°It¡¯s fine, you can have them.¡±
When I said that she seemed relieved.
¡°Really? Thank you so much! I¡¯ll try and sell these at the next town over. I won¡¯t be in as much trouble anymore¡¡±
¡°You¡¯re not taking it back to your village?¡±
¡°Ah you see¡¡±
Oh great, there''s a whole background story with this? I will definately be dark by the time she finishes. I quickly interrupt her before she takes off.
¡°I¡¯m actually-¡±
¡°Wait wait wait, I¡¯ll listen to your story over dinner, it¡¯s getting late and I need to find a camp, I assume you won''t be making it back to your home when it''s dark so let¡¯s find a spot to start a fire.¡±
¡°Oh, Uh ok.¡±
And so I helped her harvest all the parts and packed them up.
¡°Wait a second, I can use some water magic, let me help clean up.¡±
She interrupts near the end.
¡°Oh, That¡¯s quite useful, I usually clean with leaves other bits of water reserves I find. Thank you.¡±
¡°No worries! ¡®Water spout¡¯.¡±
A water stream pours out of her palm and flow like an open tap.
We finish cleaning up everything¡
¡°Oh by the way, why did that Horhog chase you?¡±
¡°...¡±
She turns her face away in silence¡
Not gonna talk huh?
Whatever, It¡¯s so obvious you were the cause for it to go on a rampage like that.
After we finished with everything we continued walking for a short while until reaching an opening amongst trees that would be suited to start a fire and settle camp.
Chapter 9: The B?e?a?u?t?y? Idiot and the Beast (3)
The sun has already gone home once we started the camp fire, of course thanks to my magic it did not take long.
Remembering the girl¡¯s ability, I looked for a rock with a large relatively flat surface and carried it over.
¡°Hey, could you please wash the surface of this rock, I will roast some ribs and belly meat from earlier on here.¡±
¡°Ooh that sounds tasty, sure thing!¡±
As she continued to clean the rock away from the flames I cut up the ribs and belly meat into strips.
By the time she got back, everything is prepared.
Ah, she has that smug looking face again, does she want a praise?
Again, whilst ignoring her, I admit, she did do a great job.
The rock is extremely clean and even dried too.
¡°Nice work, thanks¡ Oh I haven¡¯t gotten your name yet, what¡¯s your name?¡±
¡°My name is-¡±
She placed the rock next to the fire and sat down as she replied.
¡°Daamiliavekorikenii Azilianiovosericalia.¡±
¡°...¡±
Long! So long!
¡°You may call me Daami for short.¡±
¡°Pfft.¡±
¡°What¡¯s so funny?¡±
¡°Is that really how you pronounce it?¡±
¡°Yea! Duh- Me... Daami.¡±
¡°Pfft!¡±
¡°Hey! Don¡¯t laugh at my name! It was the name my mother left me...¡±
I can¡¯t, I couldn¡¯t control myself, It fitted this girl so perfectly, a common word from my otherworld knowledge was ¡®dumb¡¯ and calling someone a ¡®dummy¡¯ was labeling them an idiot.
I probably shouldn¡¯t say anything, the word ¡®dumb¡¯ doesn''t exist in our world.
¡°I¡¯m sorry-¡±
I apologized as I wiped tears away,
¡°i-it just took me by surprise, anyways my name is Aras, I¡¯m an Ogrekin.¡±
I introduced myself as I begin cooking.
Ah, the searing sound of pork belly with the melty fat hitting the heated surface creating the porky aroma is temptatious. If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it.
Almost loosing myself to cooking, Daami accepts my apology after a short pause.
¡°Fine I¡¯ll let it go¡ anywhom, that¡¯s a rare race! But where¡¯s your crystal horn? I heard as a child Orgrekins had really pretty crystal horns.¡±
I lifted my hair covering my translucent stub horn after she asked.
¡°I¡¯m an orphaned Ogrekin, I have this weird horn since I was born, but I was told I am definitely from the Ogrekin race by my mentor.¡±
¡°I see¡ it¡¯s not just me¡¡±
She begins looking sad after I explained.
¡°I¡¯m also an orphan with unusual race traits-¡±
She begins to lift her shoulder lengthed orange blond hair behind her ears.
¡°Ah.¡±
I never noticed before.
¡°I¡¯m a quarter-Elvin, I don¡¯t know who my father was, my mother was a half-Elvin born from an enslaved Elvin, unfortunately she was also a slave and abandoned me near a village after I was born. She left a note explaining she did not wish for me to become a slave so she left me with a village in the outskirts within the forest, I stayed with an old hunter who lived on the edge of the village I was left at. As you can see, I also have an ¡®odd¡¯ feature, I only have one long ear similar to that of an Elvin, while the other is a normal one that of Humankind.¡±
She continued to explain her background that she was going to explain earlier. Now that things have settled, I make a better observation of her.
She wore an outfit of leather and cloth combo, fitting that of a hunter title, with tools and fanny pack like sacks tired around her belt, although she is sitting, her height seemed to be above average. Her body build was athletic so her profession must not be a lie then. I quietly continued to listen.
¡°I was discriminated in the village the first time I went there with the old hunter as a child, they treated me like a cursed child, or worse a illegitimate child of a noble and an Elvin slave. They feared the possibility of a noble looking for me to erase my presence or capture me as a slave and in the process affecting the village alongside. So after that, I stayed living with the old hunter who took me in. He treated me like his own granddaughter so I was extremely grateful, however grandpa passed away a few years after the event. Before he died, he taught me hunting and gathering techniques so I could survive on my own, and on the day I turned an adult at the age of 18, I grew out my hair and left the small house I grew up in and decided to make a living by myself in the forest.¡±
She looked more gloomy after the story. I do understand why, although it was a sad occurrence, It was a common happening, nobles of any race, with the humankind being the worst offenders, due to their population size, often abusing their authority and carry out atrocities. Including against their own race.
¡°I was abandoned as a child, I did not know my parents and I grew up living and training with my mentor until I was 18 as well, I did not suffer discrimination as I did not interact much with others, however I sympathize with you, I guess we¡¯re two peas in a pod.¡±
I tried to comfort her as she looks up towards me.
¡°You¡¯re not so bad of a person after all!¡±
¡°... Of course I¡¯m not! Who just saved you!¡±
¡°Ahaha, ok, well since you¡¯re a wanderer and we are also the same age, let¡¯s travel together! I¡¯m sure you¡¯ll need my help I mean you have no common sense.¡±
¡°Wha-¡±
This girl! I take it all back, she¡¯s definitely an idiot, I¡¯ll definitely get dragged down with my future if she comes along.
¡°Actually I have a goal and it could be dangerous along the way and-¡±
¡°No need to explain, we are friends now!¡±
She leans over and pats my shoulder.
¡°...¡±
Her eyes are glittering, they are full of determination, she¡¯s really set on wanting to travel together!
I couldn''t even make up a good excuse in time.
¡°Yea fine, by the way, your pants is on fire.¡±
The idiot got too close to the fire as she leant over.
¡°AH! My pants, this was my last good pair!¡±
¡°Last good¡¡±
Yea this will be tiring from now on.
As she put her pants out and tried to fix them, I continued to finish grilling the meat on the rock as we camped out the night.
Chapter 10: Lets Go!
A Few days later.
¡°Hey Aras, hey Aras¡¡±
Daami rubs her eyes in a tired manner as she staggers closely behind me during the morning.
¡°Are we there yet?¡±
¡°You¡¯re asking me this? You¡¯re the one telling me if we go in this direction we will reach the closest city!¡±
¡°Yea well I¡¯m tired¡¡±
¡°What kind of excuse is that!?¡±
~*~
Just before we fell a sleep last night.
¡°Just so you know Daami, I have no idea where to go, I was actually lost before I met you, I was just wandering around afterall.¡±
¡°That¡¯s ok, I know the closest city is northwest of here, after all I did see it in the distance once while hunting with grandpa.¡±
¡°So you say, well you can show the directions tomorrow.¡±
¡°Leave it to me!¡±
~*~
And now here we are. On a beautiful clear morning, the girl who is supposed to be leading the way, showing the direction, is lazing behind me instead.
After about 2 hours of walking we finally see stone walls in the distance.
Daami suddenly runs past me and starts a commotion, pointing in the direction of the walls and waving.
¡°Ah see! see! I told you there was a city here!¡±
¡°Yeah I can see that, also I never actually doubted you¡¡±
I saw some cities in the distance within the sea of forests back when I came down the mountains.
¡°Ah! while we are here, we are Humankinds ok? Your skin colour is slightly pale but if you explain how you lived isolated in the mountains maybe they will accept it. Your red eyes are not common however there are some Humankinds who had it, I remember seeing a kid from the village having similar coloured eyes.¡±If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
¡°That¡¯s reasonable, I was planning that at the start.¡±
¡°I didn¡¯t know you were so smart.¡±
Daami is smirking¡
¡°why you¡¡±
¡°Hahaha let¡¯s go!¡±
As she runs off, we hurried off to the gates.
~*~
¡°Hello travellers, what business do you have in Mabrosa today?¡±
One of the 3 guards positioned at the gate approaches and questions us.
The remaining 2 guards are firmly standing next to each side of the gate itself.
¡°(Let me handle this, I have interacted with humankind before)¡±
Daami whispers to me before replying.
I have a bad feeling about this¡
¡°Hello there sir guardsman! We are no one suspicious, I¡¯m a hunter from a village and he is my travel companion who I just met, a wanderer. We wish to enter the city and sell some harvested material at the Adventurer''s Association.¡±
¡°Hmmm, you don¡¯t seem to be lying. Very well, present your identification cards please.¡±
¡°Here¡¯s mine sir.¡±
She hands over a card to the guard as she beckons me over with a wave.
¡°I see, so your ID does show you are a hunter by trade, you didn¡¯t seem to lie, and I see your name is Daam Az. Is that correc-¡±
¡°Pfffft¡¡±
Oh no, there¡¯s no way I could hold that in, why is her name on her card ¡®Dumb Ass¡±.
This is way too stupid!
¡°(Quit that! I know my name is long so grandpa made my name on my ID card shorter when he registered me! You¡¯re being rude!)¡±
Daami whispers as she elbows me from the side.
The guard looks slightly irritated from the interruption, I¡¯d better stop. And so holding in my laughter.
¡°My name is Aras, I¡¯m a wanderer as Daam has said, however I do not have an ID card as I lived only with my mentor deep in the mountains as a child.¡±
¡°I see, this could be a problem, you will have to come with us for a moment. You there, take him in!¡±
¡°Yes sir!¡±
One of the guards guarding at the gate comes up and grabs me by the arm, taking me away.
Wait wait wait, why am I getting taken away! I was the one messing up? Is it because I don¡¯t have an ID card?
¡°Ah mr guardsmen!¡±
Ohh,good job Daami! Help out your pal!
¡°Is he dangerous? I only just met him myself but i thought he was a good person...¡±
WHY ARE YOU DOUBTING YOURSELF! WHAT ABOUT THAT STORY YOU TOLD ME! WASN¡¯T THAT A KIND OF STORY YOU¡¯D ONLY TELL SOMEONE YOU TRUSTED?
¡°No, guard sir! I¡¯m not a bad person! I am honestly a traveler, I¡¯m not suspicious!¡±
¡°Relax kid, we are taking you to the office to get a record of your name and a fingerprint on the documents, later you can register an ID at a government office, or easier at the Adventurer¡¯s Association if you want to be an Adventurer instead.¡±
¡°Fuuu- that''s a relief.¡±
Why are you the one relieved! Stupid Daami.
¡°I understand, thank you sir. And Daam.¡±
Daam stiffens after hearing her name in a cold voice.
¡°I¡¯ll see you afterwards.¡±
Yes. I¡¯ll deal with you later.
Chapter 11: Finding The Place
¡°Sorry Aras, I was just joking before. Teheh.¡±
¡°Don¡¯t act cute!¡±
I gave her a thump on the head for acting stupid before.
¡°Now let¡¯s just go find the Adventurer''s Association and sell your stuff and I¡¯ll get registered to make things easier.¡±
¡°Ok ok, from what I was told as a child, Adventurer¡¯s Association had a symbol that looked like a dog carrying something on it¡¯s back.¡±
That sounds ridiculous already.
¡°Are you sure? That sounds silly.¡±
¡°Of course! I told you where the city was didn¡¯t I?¡±
¡°Alrighty then, let¡¯s go.¡±
~*~
1 hour later¡
We are both tired and out of patience, having no luck finding the Adventurer¡¯s Association.
The city is big however, by the sounds of the Adventurer¡¯s Association, it looks like it should be one of the largest buildings in the city.
¡°So Daami, are you sure about the symbol? We haven¡¯t found it yet this whole time.¡±
¡°Uh¡. o-of course I¡¯m sure ¡®fu fu fu¡¯. Who do you think I am.¡±
¡ yep. She actually has no clue. Why did I even believe her in the first place.
¡°...¡±
With a face of disappointment I turn around without even reacting and decided to look for a nearby person we could ask for directions from.
¡°At least say something ¡¡± (Daami)
~*~This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
¡°Excuse me sir, me and my friend are looking for the Adventurer¡¯s Association. Could I trouble you with directions to the place?¡±
A man with leathery armour like equipment is window shopping at a shop which looked like a Smithy, given the goods inside looked like weapons and tools from a glance.
¡°Ohh, you''re quite well mannered young man, I just came from there myself, it¡¯s not far, go back down the street, take a right, followed by two lefts and you should be there, you¡¯ll see it, it''s a very large building.¡±
Wait, we just came from that direction¡ how did we go past it?
¡°I understand, thanks very much sir!¡±
¡°No worries youngster, good luck!¡±
After the exchange with the friendly guy, I turn back to Daami and shared the instructions.
~*~
20 more minutes later¡
¡°Thi-this is¡¡±
¡°A-ah¡¡±
This is clearly the large building we went past already! How did you not notice Daami?
Looking at Daami I find her avoiding eye contact.
¡°Y-you¡¡±
¡°Ah i-it''s not my fault ok? I mean, see look! Look at the sign, it''s a different symbol. Maybe the stranger got it wrong!¡±
A wooden signboard with a metallic plate holding an image sits across the top of the frame of the large double door entrance to the building.
The image¡
¡°That image is clearly a person riding a horse! It''s different!¡±
As Daami keeps arguing for her cause.
¡°It should be a dog carrying something on it¡¯s bac- ...Ah.¡±
Looks like the idiot finally noticed.
¡°Yes, you were completely wrong in the first place, it would make more sense for it to be a person riding a horse than a dog carrying something on it¡¯s back.¡±
Daami¡¯s looking depressed again.
Let¡¯s just leave her be, it¡¯s her own fault anyways.
Entering the building, the first floor expands in a large open space. Marbled floor tiles, cream in colour, covers the entire floor. Numerous people wearing all sorts of equipment wonders around, leather and metallic armours, robes, some of them in simple cloth clothings as well. Everyone was at different areas, some looking busy, some grouped together chatting at a bar, some relaxing around sofas, chairs and tables and some lined up in queue, awaiting at what looks to be the reception.
I¡¯m surprised I wasn¡¯t taken as aback as I should have, considering I was living in isolation.
Must be because of my other memories/knowledge, how convenient.
¡°Come on ¡®Dummy¡¯, let¡¯s go get registered.¡±
Hearing herself get called over, she slowly makes her way beside me in the queue.
...
¡°Quit dragging your feet, you¡¯re not a kid anymore!¡±
I feel like a parent¡
Chapter 12: The Adventurers Association (1)
¡°Hello Sir and Madam welcome to the Adventurer¡¯s Association , how can I help you.¡±
A well dressed lady with a brown ponytail and glasses stands before me, welcoming us with a smile.
Her uniform fitted with a tie, a clean moss green vest and neatly overlapping a white buttoned shirt, a classic combination. She looks to be very professional as she adjusts her black rimmed glasses.
¡°Hello Trisha,¡±
Reading the name on the tag pinned on the vest pocket,
¡°Me and my friend here would like to register as Adventurers with the Association.¡±
¡°(Tch, newbies¡) I see, is this your first time coming to our Association?¡±
Oi oi lady, I didn¡¯t miss that, what¡¯s with that character gap, you¡¯re supposed to be professional!
¡°Uh yes, it is our first time.¡±
¡°Ok, first I will need your IDs please¡±
¡°Ah I do not have an ID, I lived deep in the forest since when I was a baby, I was hoping to register an ID here. My friend here has hers.¡±
Daami hands over her ID on the desk, looks like she¡¯s acting slightly more normal now.
¡°Thank you, now for you, here is a form to complete. We need your name and general details, also our Association has a seperate card system that you can choose when completing this form. Most people have their ID card integrated with our Association''s card when they register, so they only need one ID card in total.¡±
¡°I see, Daami will you be getting the Association''s card as well?¡±
Daami simply nods back.
Did this girl forget how to talk now?
¡°Understood, that will be 14 silver in total for registration fees, 5 silver is the cost per Association card and 2 silver per registee.¡±
My mentor had given me some currency before I departed on my travels so I am not troubled with money. But looking at Daami¡
Yeah she¡¯s definitely looking at me with upturned eyes¡
Behave normally will you!
Whatever¡
¡°I will be paying on her behalf, here is 14 silver.¡±
I handed over the money as well as my completed form.
¡°Thank you, the cards will take a few minutes to prepare, we will call you over once ready. please wait in the lounge area for the time being. Also here is the entire list of the Association¡¯s regulations and policies you must follow as a member of the Association. I can¡¯t be bothered explaining it to you so please make sure you read it all. Have a nice day.¡±If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it.
¡°...¡±
Handing me a sheet of paper full of text, the receptionist bids us well, more like hurrying us away¡
¡°Ah um, before we go, could you tell us where to go to sell monster or animal parts?¡±
Daami finally spoke, she quickly asked the receptionist, except it looks like Trisha is a bit annoyed.
¡°Just go to past the end of the reception, make a right down the corridor past the Bar and you will see a bench and a windowed reception. The windowed reception will have staff you can talk to about it.¡±
Oh she actually answered despite looking annoyed.
¡°Thank you.¡±
~*~
¡°Hello young lady, what can I help you with.¡±
A burly old man with short brown hair and a scruffy beard with streaks of grey speaks. He''s clearly a retired adventurer or hunter given his body is like that, sitting behind the windowed reception welcoming Daami.
¡°I would like to sell some Horhog material please.¡±
¡°Hoh? That¡¯s quite impressive lass, Horhogs are quite fearsome monsters, to take down one of those, you must be quite a skilled adventurer or hunter eh?¡±
¡°Hehehe¡¡±
Stop laughing with that stupid smile from being praised Daami! I did most of the work you know?
¡°Well then, please place all the materials you want to sell on the bench over there and I will be right out to inspect.¡±
~*~
After Daami sold the material she received little pouch containing 5 gold and 40 silver, quite a sum of money.
We are now resting at a sofa in the lounging area inside the Association building while waiting for the cards to complete.
I decided to read through the policies while Daami plays with her pouch of gold.
She¡¯s totally going to lose it...
~*~
In summary, the Adventurer¡¯s Association has branches across the world with the headquarters in the free trade city of Raymington, in the Rayming Kingdom.
The Association is independent to all countries rulings however they abide by the basic rules in each nation they are within. And so as members of the Association we must also abide by the laws of each nation we are in.
Which is basically common sense, So as long as you have common sense you¡¯ll be fine.
As an Adventurer, we usually take activities from the quest board at the Association to complete tasks for customers, the Association is only a middle agent.
Everything is ranked by levels from 1 to 50.
The activities are also ranked and so you must be the same level or higher to complete the activity of that level.
Usually it takes 10+ activities per level to level to the next, but there are some cases with special circumstances.
There¡¯s even a monthly rank ladder listing the top Adventurers of the Association with 20 spots for a special level, ¡®Level X¡¯. The spots changes each month, only the very best adventurers are allowed to be ¡®Level X¡¯, they are measured by their ability to complete activities, the amount of activities completed and general battle prowess. Of course rank 1 of the 20 is the strongest Adventurer of that month.
In case of parties, the party members¡¯ lowest level and highest level must be within 10 level difference and the activity level must be equal to the lowest member at least.
Parties are limited to 6 members, anymore will be considered a guild and follow a different system.
The guild system works similarly to parties except the level difference does not exist, for example a level 50 can be in the same guild as a level 1 but they cannot party together. Activities for guilds are special, the are often received by each guild leader from the Association¡¯s branch head or vice head directly.
The guild also have a quarterly ranking system. The current ranked 1 guild is ¡°Steel Tempest¡±, it is said they have members who often take 5-10 spots as ¡®Level X¡¯.
Anyways all this probably doesn¡¯t have much to do with us, we are just level 1s and I mostly just want to travel around.
But after we get our cards, what should be do next?
While contemplating, Daami drops her pouch and it rolls under the sofa, now she¡¯s on all fours fishing for it¡
Chapter 13: The Adventurers Association (2)
¡°Mr Aras Drakus and Miss Daam Az, your cards are ready, please make your way to the reception to collect them.¡±
A staff member came up to us at the lounge area to guide us back to the reception to collect our new Association ID cards.
Oh it¡¯s Trisha, we meet again.
¡°Here are your new ID cards, although this part is already in the policies I had given you before but it is a staff rule to explain the following anyways...¡±
She doesn¡¯t look too pleased again, it''s too obvious Trisha! Act a bit more professional please!
¡°Your new cards will be your ID cards as well as Association cards.
- It will display your basic details that you have filled out in your form or from your previous ID card.
- It also has a section to the right containing levels and rank for personal, party and guild.
- On the bottom left it has a display of currency, you may leave currency at any of our branch, we will keep your funds safe and secure, and you can withdraw at any branch as well.
- On the bottom right you have a magic stamp component, when you receive an activity, the activity¡¯s serial number will be added there with a green coloured stamp. Once you completed an activity, the customer can change the stamp to red, and after the Association checks everything for completion, the stamp will return to blank.
Make sure you take care of this card as it is specially made with magic circuits. If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it.
To replace it will cost 5 gold. That is all, any questions? No? Ok, have a nice day.¡±
¡°...¡±
Fine I get it, you don¡¯t want to deal with newbies because it''s troublesome.
¡°So Daami, I will deposit some of my funds here then, what about you?¡±
¡°I think I will as well, it¡¯s probably safer.¡±
Yep definitely safer than you playing around with it.
¡°Sorry Trisha, we would like to store our funds.¡±
¡°... One moment.¡±
~*~
Daami had stored 5 gold from before and I stored 20 gold with the Association with Trisha looking mean though the whole process¡
I have about 5 gold and 80 silver left to carry around.
Wait, if we both stored most of money does that mean Daami¡¯s total funds was around what she sold from before?
¡°Hey Daami, how much money do you have with you now, after storing?¡±
¡°About 52 silver, why?¡±
¡°...¡±
She had 12 silver with her before!? And she wanted to go traveling with that much money??
Agh, I can¡¯t even ask this girl for money from the registration, it''s too sad. Or more of being too irresponsible!
¡°It¡¯s nothing, lets get some food, it''s already the afternoon and we haven¡¯t had lunch.¡±
¡°Oh good idea Aras, I am definitely hungry.¡±
We left the Association¡¯s building to look for a restaurant.
Chapter 14: Good Food but a Bad View?
¡°Wow, this roast beef is great! So is the roasted potatoes and veggies! The sauce is so sweet and savoury. Ah this bread is so fluffy!¡±
Daami is enjoying her Roast combo meal excitedly.
I got myself a creamy chicken noodle dish with a white sauce full of green herbs, similar to pasta but not as fancy, it¡¯s extremely rich and creamy, but very tasty if I must say so myself.
¡°Daami, I have to admit, your choice of restaurant was excellent this time.¡±
¡°Of course, they call me the Gourmet Hunter!¡±
¡°Who says that!¡±
Right now we are sitting street side in the outdoor set up area of the restaurant Daami had chosen. We are wearing traveler robes we bought recently with a couple of leather rucksacks full of newly bought supplies. While we are enjoying our meal and messing around on a street side setting, a commotion begin stirring up the street.
¡°Get out of the way of Sir Bellado!¡±
¡°Make way! Make way! Sir Bellado is coming through!¡±
A chubby man with a goatee dressed in expensive robes sits lazily on a two wheeled cart, pulled by a man. No judging by the clothing and chains, that¡¯s a slave¡
There is a female slave sitting next to him with clothing full of exposure in a provoking manner.
Two slave teens one male and one female following next to the cart on foot with guards in metallic armour clearing the way at the front.
All the slaves beside the female on the cart had rugged single piece clothing, no more like wearing rags than clothing.
So this is a noble of this country, I heard from my mentor nobles are in simple terms, rich people with a lot of power, with roles to help and govern the people.
But this one looks like his just drunk on his power, possibly one of those notorious bad nobles.
I really don''t want to get involved, it would be way too troublesome...Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.
¡°Halt!¡±
The whole group stops.
¡°You! Bring me the product from that stall over there!¡±
The fat man pick out a handful of silver coins from a pouch and throws them at the young girl slave at the side of the cart.
The coins hit her right in the face and scatters around the floor.
The young girl scrambles to pick up all the coins with blood dripping down her face, it seems one of the coins had made a cut on her face.
¡°(Ah It¡¯s an Elvin slave.)¡±
¡°(I think it¡¯s a Dark Elvin.)¡±
¡°(Maybe it¡¯s a half Elvin slave given that it¡¯s Sir Bellado.)¡±
¡°(That poor thing, she¡¯s probably already a plaything.)¡±
Mutters and whispers could be heard from bystanders as the girl picks up the coins while showing her long ears.
It appears this Bellado fellow is bad news, he has a bad reputation with the citizens already.
I glanced at Daami, she seems restless, her hands have tightened their grip on her knife and fork. I better keep her calm before she causes any trouble.
¡°(Hey Daami,)¡±
I whisper over,
¡°(Calm down, not like we can just run out infront and be like ''Hey you, the one with the pig face, if you don''t stop that right now we will beat the crap out of ya, capisce?''.)¡±
Throwing in a little something from my other knowledge, but I doubt Daami would know, probably think im describing a bandit hold up.
Although antics aside, I don''t think we can take on those strong looking guards the noble has, but I feel frustrated for somereason, perhaps I was isolated and have memories from a world without slavery, but this is just plainly wrong. I want to do something for them, yet I don''t think I can do anything right now. The most logical thing to do is let it happen and act normally, I mean we are non-Humankind ourselves.
Yep.
Let''s not get ourselves mixed up in that mess.
¡°(Don¡¯t you feel frustrated Aras? My own kind right in front of my being mistreated, how can I sit still? Aren¡¯t you from a race who are often mistreated by this kind of Humankind as well?)¡±
¡°(Yes, but we can¡¯t really fight them head on now can we. How can we win?)¡±
¡°(It doesn¡¯t matter, at least we have to try! Maybe we can steal them quickly and make a get away.)¡±
¡°(What are we Kidnappers now? We can¡¯t I¡¯m telling you! Don¡¯t cause trouble!)¡±
¡°(I was mistaken about you, I thought you would of thought a plan instead of just cowering away. I¡¯m going!)¡±
As Daami starts to stand up, I quickly grab her arm and force her in her seat.
Hmmm she¡¯s right, I should be ashamed, I have gained otherworldly knowledge and even a God¡¯s blessing, instead of coming up with silly jokes that only I could understand, I should be able to come up with something.
Being a coward is not my forte now is it.
But fighting with brute force agaisnt those fully armoured guards would be plain stupidity.
¡°(No, you¡¯re right Daami, I¡¯m sorry, but stay calm, I''ll definately come up with something, let me handle it.)¡±
¡°...¡±
Perhaps she had trust in me due to our previous mishap in the forest, but it looks like she¡¯s relaxed a bit.
Now, what should I do to help, we can''t take them on normally, but nothing is stoping us from outsmarting them...
Chapter 15: Sneaking a conversation with the slave girl
¡°(Ok, I have a plan, I¡¯ll be right back.)¡±
I left a whisper to Daami and made my way over to the slave girl line up at the store.
I come up to her side with my back facing the direction of that pig Noble and quickly get her attention.
¡°(Don¡¯t move young lady, it¡¯s ok, stay calm, I¡¯m here to help.)¡±
Looks like I have her attention with my whispers.
¡°(My friend is from the same race as you and she was very troubled and sad seeing you in this state so we decided to help. If you understand, slightly pull my robe once for yes and twice for no.)¡±
I felt a single slight tug.
¡°(Ok, we don¡¯t have much time as the line is moving up, it¡¯s up to you if you want to trust us, but we really want to help, look I also have this.)¡±
I show her the medallion from God, seems like she recognises it as her eyes open wide when I pulled it out.
¡°(We will help you and your fellow slaves to be released, in two days time, simply help us in to the mansion at midnight, can you do that?)¡±
I felt a single tug on my robe, this time a bit stronger, felt like she has a bit of determination.
¡°(Good, now keep acting normal, don¡¯t worry, we will definitely rescue you and the other slaves, I promise.)¡±
I left her side stealthily, it looks like Bellado didn''t notice as he is playing with the female slave next to him, fondling her breasts.
~*~
I make my way back to my seat at the restaurant.
¡°(So how did it go?)¡±
¡°(I have a plan, I will explain to you soon, let¡¯s go find a inn to stay at for the few days we will be here.)¡±
¡°(I see, so we will be here a few days huh.)¡±Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Daami starts smiling, she really wants to help doesn¡¯t she.
~*~
¡°Why did you take so long!¡±
*Smack*
After bring back food from the stall, Bellado takes the bag from the slave girl and hit her with a backhand before the girl collapses from the impact.
¡°Tsk, worthless slave. Let¡¯s go!¡±
¡°Yes sir!¡±
¡°Right away sir! Get out of the way! Make way for Sir Bellado!¡±
The group takes off leaving the girl to get up on her feet by herself.
As she gets back up and chases after Bellado¡¯s convoy, she spots us.
I give her a wink and put my finger on my lips vertically to form a hush gesture.
The slave girl quitely nods and scrambles after the cart.
~*~
¡°Welcome to Sunflower Inn, how can we help?¡±
A plump middle aged lady dressed in an apron with her hair in a bun welcomes us behind the counter, she has that motherly feel about her that makes you relaxed.
¡°Ah yes, we would like to rent a room for 4 nights for the time being.¡±
¡°Certainly, will that be a single room with twin beds or perhaps you and your lady friend might want a single double bed instead?¡±
Quit teasing us lady! Ah, Daami is blushing.
¡°O-oh n-no, just a twin beds please, we are just friends.¡±
¡°I understand, sorry for jumping to conclusions, but you two would make a cute couple.¡±
With a smirk the Inn¡¯s receptionist turns to retrieve the room keys.
Great, how do I even react to that? Daami is still blushing from her comments...
I fully know that it¡¯s just a marketing stunt but even I can¡¯t help but feel my face warming up as well.
Of course I¡¯d blush! I-I¡¯m a man after all!
¡°Sorry for the wait, here are your keys, it is room 202, that is on the second floor and the second room from the entrance. It will be 1 gold a night, and an additional 10 silver for breakfast and lunch inclusion. We also have a small restaurant open next door serving lunch and dinner.¡±
¡°Th-thank you. We will take the additional breakfast and lunch package as well.¡±
I handed over 4 gold and 40 silver, quickly retrieved the room key and we headed upstairs to the room.
~*~
First I checked around the room, everything seems simple, of course comparing to knowledge I have of inns and hotels from the otherworld. The room is furnished with two wooden single beds with white sheeting, a single desk sits at the corner by a single window with one chair. A dresser in between the beds and a small dresser at the end against the wall. Although simple, everything was very clean and tidy.
After the closing the window, shutting the door and making sure no one is outside or in the near surroundings of our room, I quitely discuss my plan I had come up with to Daami.
¡°Ok, so listen Daami, the plan is¡¡±
Chapter 16: Prelude
It has being two days, I wonder if that stranger will really come to save us tonight.
~*~
Two days ago
I was out with my master on his daily stroll, as usual us slaves can only follow in silence and obey his every command.
I was particularly unlucky that day, it seemed the master spotted a food stall that he desired, and so I was chosen to do the erand.
The master proceeded to throw a handful of coins at my face, it hurt, it hurted alot, I was bleeding but I mustn''t cry. If I showed hesitation I would be punished with no meals.
I hurriedly picked up the coins and made my way to the shop. The food aroma was hypnotizing, but I had to hold back the saliva, we as slaves only get 2 meals a day, sometimes only 1 meal, if we are caught we will definitely have no meals, maybe no meals for a couple of days.
As I stood with the coins grasped in my hand, I patiently waited in line when suddenly a strange man came up next to me, at first I thought he was just lining up but he begun whispering.
¡°(Don¡¯t move young lady, it¡¯s ok, stay calm, I¡¯m here to help.)¡±
I was surprised, but I decided to listen for now, it looks like he noticed he had my attention.
¡°(My friend is from the same race as you and she was very troubled and sad seeing you in this state so we decided to help. If you understand, slightly pull my robe once for yes and twice for no.)¡±
Same race? Another Dark-Elvin like me wanted to help me? I don¡¯t usually don''t see many Dark-Elvins, there are more Elvins than Dark-Elvins around, even amongst slaves I had never met another Dark-Elvin.
So although hesitantly, I gently tug his robe.
¡°(Ok, we don¡¯t have much time as the line is moving up, it¡¯s up to you if you want to trust us, but we really want to help, look I also have this.)¡±
No way! That- that¡¯s a holy medallion! How does he have this? Is he from the Equilax church? I have only seen a Cardinal from the Equilax church wear those, they often preach in the public to the masses about equality between all races. A church that supported equality with many countries backing it, even us slaves have heard of them.
¡°(We will help you and your fellow slaves to be released, in two days time, simply help us in to the mansion at midnight, can you do that?)¡±
You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.Even if this man isn¡¯t a Cardinal, he must be a high ranking person from the Equilax church, or maybe even a special agent of the church? Will they really be able to save us?
I tugged on his robe once nonetheless, no one has ever even tried to help us slaves. If they are willing to help us, I should help them.
¡°(Good, now keep acting normal, don¡¯t worry, we will definitely rescue you and the other slaves, I promise.)¡±
After that he left.
~*~
After purchasing the goods, I returned to the cart with the master sitting in the cart directing his gaze at me. No, at the goods instead.
I offer up the bag but only receiving a slap to my face, the force sent me falling back.
I held in my tears and waited for the master to finish his abuse.
Soon after the group takes off leaving me to myself, I must chase after them or I will be punished, as I get up to chase after the cart, I notice two people wearing the same robes as the one I held onto at the food stalls line. One of the robed figures winked at me and lifted his finger up.
Ah, his asking me to keep quiet, it was the stranger from before, he must be sitting with the friend he mentioned.
I replied with a nod before moving on.
~*~
Once I got back, the master was not in a good mood and took out his frustration on me, beaten me with a whip as he toyed with me before I got thrown into a cell.
My body was sore all over, it hurt, I had no energy to move, I simply laid there, no dinner was given that night.
~*~
Back to the present
I am on toilet cleaning duty tonight, I asked my fellow slaves to swap roles with me just for tonight so I could clean the toilets, a job the Nobles prefered us to complete late at night due to the smell.
Midnight was soon here, the moonlight lit the corridors as I was moving to the next toilet location. If it wasn¡¯t for the ugliness of the contents of the mansion, the bright crescent moon would have being beautiful.
I patiently waited as I carried out my duty until I heard rocks hitting a window, it was easy to pick up the sound as this is near the back of the mansion, there was almost no sound in the surroundings.
Surely that was not a stray rock, could it be the church¡¯s agents? Another rock sound was heard during my confusion, this time I am sure it was not a coincidence.
I moved to the room where the window is located, it was luckily a store room. Did they know this window was in the store room? I quickly and quietly opened the window and was greeted by two shadowy figures covered in dark mantles almost pitch black. I almost let out a scream as I covered my mouth, they looked so ominous.
¡°(Hello young lady, remember us? We are here to help.)¡±
The man I met before whispers as he shows a medallion from his pocket.
I quietly nod in response, as I was about to ask about what they will do afterwards, he quickly motioned me to be quiet.
¡°(Don¡¯t worry young lady, I have a plan, just leave everything to us. Simply tell us how to get to the ugly Noble¡¯s room.)¡±
I follow their instructions and directed them to the master¡¯s bedroom.
¡°(... he should still be asleep at this hour.)¡±
¡°(Thank you, just act normally after this and do your duty, tomorrow everything will be better, you will be saved, I promise.)¡±
For some reason his words sounded trusting, I have only met him for the second time and his friend for the first time, yet why could I trust them so deeply?
I nod in response to his whispers and closed the window before heading back out to the corridor and carried on my cleaning duties.
¡°(Oh dear God, if you are really willing to help us, please let your followers succeed.)¡±
I quietly murmured a pray as I cleaned.
Chapter 17: Operation Reveal
On the night of the plan.
¡°Tonight is the night Daami.¡±
Daami simply nods.
¡°Are you ready?¡±
Another nod.
¡°We spend the past two days preparing for this plan to go well.¡±
*Nod nod*.
¡°Do you remember everything I told you about the plan?¡±
*Nod nod nod*
¡°So what is it you have to do?¡±
*Nod nod nod nod*
¡°¡¡±
¡°BE SERIOUS! QUIT NODDING LIKE A BOBBLE HEAD!¡±
I smacked Daami across the head.
¡°Owww! Ok ok i¡¯m sorry, it¡¯s just, you kept explaining it on and on and I got tired and bored¡¡±
¡°...¡±
This dumbass¡
¡°I¡¯m only explaining it multiple times because knowing you, you would totally make a mistake.¡±
¡°No I won¡¯t! I understood everything, just leave it to me!¡±
¡°Agh fine, we don¡¯t have enough time for this, ok check all your equipment and lets go!¡±
~*~
Returning to the night Aras and Daami had just gotten to the Inn.
¡°Ok, so listen Daami, the plan is¡¡±
Making sure I had her utmost attention, I continued to explain.
¡°Operation Scare Tactic! We will pretend to be ghosts and haunt that fat Noble, we will scare him so badly he will be traumatized from the events and never capture a slave again.¡±Find this and other great novels on the author''s preferred platform. Support original creators!
¡°How will scaring him make him release the slaves?¡±
¡°Well, we will pretend to be ghosts of the slaves that use to live in the mansion, we will disguise ourselves perfectly and infiltrate his mansion with the help of the slave girl we saw today.
Afterwards we will interrogate him, you just simply have to move about and act like a ghost monster and don''t speak a word ok?¡±
¡°I kind of understand? So just pretend to be a ghost/monster and not make a sound. But not making a sound won¡¯t really be scary you know? Also the undead are real monsters, what if he yells for his guards to hunt us down instead?¡±
¡°Don¡¯t worry, he will never ever have seen these types of ¡®ghosts¡¯ in his entire life. Muahahaha.¡±
Ignoring the useless joke of a laugh I added, not that Daami would understand because going through the knowledge from the other world, it appears a pass time for some people is to watch these things called movies, a system that allows slides of pictures to be played smoothly as if capturing an event. A type of movies that the man from my memories have seen often is Horror. Movies dictating made up stories or maybe even real stories/events of monsters, ghosts, criminals, murderers and other supernaturals wrecking havoc and terrorising humans.
¡°I will explain more on the day. Now let¡¯s get some sleep we got plenty of things to do in the morning.¡±
I think I will have Daami dressed as this girl from this movie called ¡®The Ring¡¯, the ghost of a girl with long black hair emerging from the wells. For me I will dress like the crazy murderer from the movie ¡®A Nightmare On Elm Street¡¯.
¡°Well if you say so, I just hope everything works out and we can save those mistreated slaves.¡±
¡°You and me both.¡±
And so we decided to get ready for the next two days before the night we carry out the plan.
~*~
The next morning we asked around the city for information on the noble Sir Bellado and his residence. People on the street readily gave away information along with some bad mouthing such as, his lazy, ugly, ruthless, perverted and etc.
We also found out he was a relative of the city¡¯s Governor, the highest ranked Noble in this city. It is possibly due to this he is drunk on a life of indulgence and power knowing he had someone influential behind him.
After gaining as much information as we needed, we arrived at Bellado¡¯s mansion in the upper rich district. The area had a wide street featuring broadened sidewalks, lined up with flowering trees with thick trunks, surrounded by more shrubs with flowers. The street was actually very pretty if it were not for Bellado¡¯s mansion. It was audacious, sticking out like a sore thumb, even other mansions around it were not showing off as much as this.
The three storied stone mansion isolated itself with three sides of stone-brick fencing towering one storey high and blocking off their surroundings. The front of the mansion are lined up with shiny iron fencing with intricate designs embroidered in various sections. The gates towered above the rest of the iron fencing, closed to form an arched outline in the centre, with spear tipped spikes spanning across the top of the entire fence.
With two fully armoured guardsmen guarding the gate, it seemed impossible to infiltrate, however I came up with a brilliant infiltration idea during the observation, to which the iron fencing would prove to fail its security.
After the scouting mission, we went back out of the city gates to the forest. The aim is to hunt some animals and monsters for their materials to be used in our costumes.
After hunting for a few hours, we hunted a Bladetler Deer and caught two small Bush Rabbits, we kept both rabbits alive for later.
After returning to the town, we quickly grabbed lunch of sandwiches and went onto different shops to procure other props we needed for the costumes.
The shopping lasted until the night and we finished with having all resources ready before the day of the plan commencement.
Chapter 18: Preparation
The day of ¡®Operation Scare Tactic¡¯.
With all the materials we gathered yesterday, first we spent the morning at the facilities of the Adventurer¡¯s Association to carve up the Bladetler Deer.
The Bladetler Deer has large Antlers mimicking blades you would find on daggers and swords. This was perfect to make the glove of my costume.
The hide of the deer was stripped and kept for later usage.
We left some of the edible meat for later, while using parts of the fats, muscles and tendons as part of the costume.
The muscles and tendons are cut into chunks and seared until one side is cooked to various degrees of burntness, matching that of burnt skin/body.
These bits will be used to be stuck onto my face to create a creepy burn victim¡¯s looks.
Bits of fat will be stuck to Daami¡¯s face, to make her face look distorted and gross in general.
Plus even if it looks more silly than gross during the day, since the plan will be carried out at night with relatively lowered visibility it will be fine.
The heart will be kept later with some of the fresh blood.
The organs will be cut up as well and will be used.
~*~This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
It is lunchtime and we took some of the deer meat to a roast meat stall and asked them to cook some of the portions for our lunch, in return we will give them the rest as compensation, in which they agreed generously.
After a delicious barbeque lunch, we went back to the inn to work on the remaining costumes and equipments.
¡°Oh? Daami, you¡¯re quite good at sewing?¡±
¡°Of course! After grandpa passed, I had to learn to make and repair my own clothes, a girl has to take care of herself you know?¡±
¡°Heeh~ that''s quite impressive.¡±
I¡¯ll have Daami sew the dress she will wear.
¡°I got this spare sheet from the Inn¡¯s receptionist, she said we could have it. So make a simple dress out of it ok?¡±
Daami¡¯s eyes are glittering, wait don¡¯t tell me¡
¡°Do not make it more complicated than necessary! Just make it S.I.M.P.L.E got it? Since it will be thrown away after, understand?¡±
She''s nodding now, looks like the glittering has gone away¡ I hope. She was totally going to try and make it pretty for no reason.
I wonder how she will react when I¡¯ll tell her to roll in the mud before we commence our plan¡
~*~
Night time, a few more hours until Midnight.
I got some spare mantles and used a special darkness magic called ¡®Void Paint¡±, it¡¯s a simple camouflage magic that I can apply like paint over surfaces, the more magic I use the longer it lasts, however it takes a bit of time to apply.
Beside the magic¡¯s ability to absorb light so we can blend into the darkness, it also absorbs other things such as sound and vibrations. We can reduce the noise made from the surface the magic is applied to.
I spent 1 whole hour applying it onto the two mantles we will wear as well as our shoes. With alot of my mana spent in making sure the ¡®Void Paint¡¯ will last throughout the night, I am a bit low on mana.
Afterwards I decided to explain Daami¡¯s roles very clearly before heading out, and making sure she understood I had to keep quizzing her¡
¡°... ok check all your equipment and lets go!¡±
We picked up our two rucksacks, with Daami''s one containing the rabbits and some other things, while mine contained props, and covered our faces with cloth masks.
With one hour to go and 30 min travel time to the mansion, we headed out.
Chapter 19: Operation Scare Tactic (1)
At the mansion, 30 min before midnight.
Back on the wide streets of the rich district, we are currently at sidewalk behind a large tree and shrubs surrounding it.
There seems to be night time guards as suspected, and everything else seems to be normal. The street was extremely quiet which means we must be careful not to make much noises.
¡°(Ok Daami, ready the rabbit.)¡±
She opens her rucksack and-
¡°Achooo!¡±
¡°!¡±
¡°!¡±
¡°!¡±
¡°(Daami!? Did you just sneeze?)¡±
¡°(I¡¯m sorry! When I opened the bag bits of rabbit fur fluff got in my nose and I couldn¡¯t help it.)¡±
Uh oh, looks like the guards are looking around for the noise, we have to release the rabbit right now and just make a gamble. Hopefully they will not think too deeply after getting distracted by the rabbit.
¡°(Just quickly release one of the rabbits!)¡±
¡°(Alright alright)¡±
A rabbit hops out of the shrubs and starts hopping around on the street.
The magic powered street lights only aluminates the areas faintly around them, but not every part of the wide street.
¡°Ah it was just a rabbit.¡±
¡°I thought I heard a sneeze to be honest.¡±
¡°Hang on, that rabbit looks a bit odd?¡±
One of the guards begin moving closer to the street to survey the unknown rabbit.
¡°It¡¯s an undead rabbit! It¡¯s considered a monster.¡±
¡°What? An Undead here in this district? How did it make its way in?¡±
¡°Who knows, but hey, do you think we can eat it? I''m awfully hungry. A bit of a late night snack or something.¡±
¡°Are you being serious man? it''s a monster, an undead monster! as if we can eat it!¡±
"Hey you''d never know if you don''t try my friend, undead means its not dead yea? and not dead = alive = live rabbit meat!"Reading on Amazon or a pirate site? This novel is from Royal Road. Support the author by reading it there.
"What kind of logic is that!? do you think with your stomach or something? surely you''re not that hungry."
"Well..."
The rabbit was dressed with bits of organ and painted blood on its fur so you could mistake it as an Undead Rabbit at night. However...
¡°(It doesn¡¯t seem like they took the bait Aras? They are just talking.)¡±
¡°(It¡¯s ok, let¡¯s just wait a bit longer.)¡±
Come on, come on, are they not going to investigate the bush rabbit?
What the heck are they even talking about anyways, go catch that ''monster'' rabbit.
¡°But still, I think we should catch it-"
"Heeh, finally came around huh? alright shall we roast it or make a rabbit stew."
"Shut up you! we need to investigate it atleast because what if that Undead Rabbit sneaks into the mansion and gets found out by our Lord, Sir Bellado. With his temper we would be punished severely, probably no pay for several months.¡±
¡°I suppose you¡¯re right, I do have to feed my family not just me, I can¡¯t afford to not get paid. Alright let¡¯s go~¡±
"(I''m suprised this guy even thinks about his family...)"
Finally, looks like the guards have finally made a move to chase after the rabbit, leaving their posts.
And so, shrouded by darkness, after watching the guardsmen move away, we sneak towards the fence.
¡°(What now Aras? Are we going to climb it?)¡±
¡°(No, it has spear tips all across the top, also there is no need, watch this.)¡±
I quickly used a small scale fire magic ¡®Ignite¡¯, often used to light fires, against the metal bars.
I slowly heated up the bars on the fence until they begin to slightly glow. Next I pulled out pieces of hide from the deer, put a piece on each hand and started to pull the bars.
The bars, softened by the heat, started to bend and a large gap is formed.
¡°(Oh amazing Aras! In we go!)¡±
¡°(Hey be careful! The bars are still hot.)¡±
After successfully made our way inside the mansion grounds, I turned to check on the guardmen¡¯s movements. They seem to have finally caught the rabbit and making their way back. However we are already making our way to the back of the mansion out of their sights, also the broken bar entry we made was at the far corner near one of the brick walls, so the guards should not notice it in the dark.
¡°(Ok Daami, before we go inside, go roll around in the dirt in the garden.)¡±
¡°(Wha-!)¡±
Oh so it''s a speechless jaw drop reaction eh?
¡°(N-no way! You go roll in the dirt!)¡±
¡°(Hey keep your voice down!)¡±
¡°(I. am. not. rolling. in. dirt!)¡±
¡°(Alright alright, just rub some dirt on your dress then, it needs to look dirty.)¡±
¡°(... fine.)¡±
Maybe i shouldn¡¯t tease her too much, we might give away our position.
¡°(Ok done, what¡¯s next?)¡±
¡°(Well we have to find where the slave girl is and get her to let us in.)¡±
¡°(How do we do that?)¡±
¡°(I think we should sneak up closer to the windows and peak inside.)¡±
As I was about to move up.
¡°(No way, that will take too long, I have a better idea.¡±
A pebble hits one of the windows as she announces.
¡°...¡±
¡°(You idiot! What are you doing!? We will get discovered!)¡±
¡°Relax Aras, it''s just a small pebble. Hmmmm although it doesn¡¯t seem like there''s any movement.)¡±
She readies another, this time a rock slightly larger than the previous pebble.
Before I could stop her, she throws it at the window once again, this time the impact was a bit louder.
¡°...¡±
¡°(We are doomed¡ the plan is over, what should we do¡ escape?)¡±
While I covered my head and was struggling to accept the stupid actions by Daami, a movement is seen and the window started to open.
¡°(Hahaha, see Aras? Easy peasy.)¡±
¡°(You just got lucky!)¡±
*smack*
As Daami rubs her head we head towards the window that was opened only to meet the slave girl at the otherside.
Chapter 20: Operation Scare Tactic (2)
I wonder if she remembers me?
¡°(Hello young lady, remember us? We are here to help.)¡±
I showed her the medallion from previously just incase.
It looks like she remembers, ah don''t speak.
I quickly gestured at her.
¡°(Don¡¯t worry young lady, I have a plan, just leave everything to us. Simply tell us how to get to the ugly Noble¡¯s room.)¡±
The girl nods.
¡°(Once outside this room, go down the corridor to the right, go up the stairway, its a back stairway for us slaves and servants to use, once you exit at the second floor, turn left and walk down the corridor until you reach the big bedroom with double door entrance. He should still be asleep at this hour.)¡±
¡°(Thank you, just act normally after this and do your duty, tomorrow everything will be better, you will be saved, I promise.)¡±
She simply nods again and closed the window behind us after heading back out.
We should get going as well.
She was quite calm even with our masked and cloaked get up, that was lucky.
~*~
Making our way quietly into the bedroom of the asshole noble Sir Bellado, the real plan of attack begins.
Due to the ¡®Void Paint¡¯ I applied, we are barely making any noise from movement. I signal Daami to take her position as I make my way to the bedside.
Ugh, such an ugly sleeping scene, the fatty man is snoring heavily with his silken pajamas unbuttoned exposing a flabby and hairy chest. This was probably 10x worse then the corpse I met back at the clearing in the forest. I hold back my repulsiveness as I removed my mask and mantle and checked Daami¡¯s preparation.
After removing her mantle and mask, a long black wig is put on. She uses water magic to cover herself head to toes in water so she is drenched and makes her way over to the end of the bed.
I pull out the custom glove with Bladetler Deer¡¯s antler blades stuck on each finger. Wearing the knife glove, I approach the sleeping Bellado and signaled Daami to get ready.
First I quickly slap a sticky tape I made with one side painted with a bit of ¡®Void Paint¡¯ on Bellado¡¯s mouth. The tape prevents him from making much noise and even if he screams, it will be muffled. Right after the tape makes contact and sticks, Bellado wakes in surprise. Struggling to understand the situation as I tower over him.
Daami has already pinned down both of his legs and one of his hands with one of her knees and both hands while I pinned the remaining free arm with my own knee as I leant over. The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
¡°[Do not make a noise humankind. You don¡¯t want to end up like the previous master of this mansion do ya?]¡±
I deepen my voice and threaten Bellado with the deer¡¯s heart I pulled out. I lift the heart in front of his face so it is in view and squeezed it so blood would drip down my hand and onto him.
I made sure to add a simple light magic called ¡°Glow¡± to give a bit of illumination so he can see this in the dark but it was all for naught, the moonlight tonight was perfect as it peeks in the window right as I performed the threatens.
Bellado¡¯s face was visibly terrified, the colour of his face had quickly disappeared and he is shuddering.
¡°[Allow me to introduce myself, I use to be the slave gardner of this mansion, they forced me to trim the bushes with my bare hands day in and day out, I was abused and tired so after they deemed me to be useless, they just dumped me and burned me to death in the dungeons!]¡±
I showed my fake burnt face in the moonlight as I spoke,
¡°[My fellow friend there was a poor slave girl who did the chores and cleaned the mansion, do you want to know how she died?]¡±
Bellado shakes his head left and right in fear.
¡°[When she accidently broke a plate when the master bumped into her, the master took out the anger on her, she was beaten and thrown into the well to be drowned!]¡±
I paused to let the fear sink in a bit more.
¡°[We took our revenge on the master many years after our deaths, we could never forgive the master who abused us, we haunted his dreams and murdered him, he died in real life the next day. From that point onward we would haunt any master who mistreated us slaves¡ and from the looks of you¡]¡±
¡
¡°[You¡¯re just like him! We shall take your life as well!]¡±
Ahh, his shaking even more now, while shaking his head none stop from left and mumbling loudly.
¡°[Bequiet!]¡±
I point the blades on my gloves close to his face.
He is frozen in place not daring to move.
¡°[I will however give you a chance, it is the first time we have woken since a long time¡]¡±
His shaking his head up and down now, almost like his begging for his life.
¡°[If you release all your slaves and never again collect slaves for the rest of your life! We will spare you your life.]¡±
More intense nodding followed.
¡°[But if you do not follow the instructions, we will come back tomorrow and kill you in your sleep!]¡±
The terrified up and down nodding hasn¡¯t slowed down.
¡°[If you don¡¯t believe we are real and can haunt and kill you in your dreams, even if this is your dream. Tomorrow you will wake up finding our blood and water all over your bed and bedroom floor. You cannot escape us, you cannot defy us.]¡±
His stopped nodding now and once again frozen with fear. I smell something gross, I quickly glance over and noticed he had soiled herself completely.
¡°[I take it as you understand.]¡±
Stiff up and down nods are seen.
¡°[However¡]¡±
¡
¡°[I will take one of your eyes as a warning!]¡±
I quickly swipe over his eyes while scaring him, in my glove hand, I hid a deer¡¯s eyeball within my palm and a bit of blood.
I infused a bit of the ¡®Void Paint¡¯ with the blood as I swiped over his eye and rubbed some of the paint over his eye, this prevented him from seeing out of one eye for a brief moment, the magic paint will disappear overtime anyways so he will be able to see again.
Afterwards I dangled the eyeball in front of his remaining eye, the moment he saw the eyeball he fainted.
After making sure his fainted, I picked up the heart and eyeball and put on my mask and mantle. Daami takes off the wet dress and wig and puts them back into the leather rucksack before wearing the mantle and mask again.
We sneak back out of the bedroom and made our way out of the mansion the same way we came in.
As we approached the gate fence, we used the same strategy, Daami released the fake Undead Rabbit at the guards from the other side of the fence, as the guards went chasing for it, she snuck back to the side where we opened the iron fence and we snuck back out. I quickly fixed the fence back to normal with the same method.
Right after I fixed the fence, rain starts pouring along with a thunderstorm.
What a timing, even if we left any tracks on the mansion grounds, this rainstorm will just wash it all away.
As we run back to our Inn under the cover of darkness and the rain I thought to myself.
How lucky.
Chapter 21: Results
Back at the Inn
¡°Hahaha¡.muahahahAHAHAHA!¡±
¡°U-uh Aras you¡¯re kind of scaring me...¡±
¡°Muahahaha! I am the greatest genius of all time!¡±
¡°A-Aras?¡±
¡°I¡¯m going to terrorize everyone and everything! MUAHAHAHA no one can stop me! I AM THE SCARIEST!¡±
¡°ARAS!¡±
¡°What do you want!? I¡¯ll KILL YOU! AHAHAHAHA¡±
¡°SNAP OUT OF IT!¡±
¡°MUA- AH- HA- A- WO- AWo- woah- uh- uh- uhm- woa- Oh- a- o-ok ok I¡¯m back, stop shaking me.¡±
With the feeling of lightheadedness after violent shaking from Daami it seems I have regained my composure.
¡°Maybe I got too into character back there, not good not good, being a murdering fanatic is actually hard work.¡±
¡°Sheesh you¡¯re a handful, if I wasn¡¯t here this whole thing would of being a mess.¡±
Daami falls back onto the bed.
¡°Hey! I thought up the plan you know? Plus I just slightly got too deep into the acting, not like you did much, it was at least 90% ALL ME!¡±
¡°Fine fine, no use arguing with an idiot, just like that saying ''you never win argueing against an idiot''.¡±
¡°Hey! That¡¯s my line! Also get out of the bed! I mean you¡¯re still wet from the rain you idio-¡±
The back and forth was interrupted with the sight in front of me. The rain has soaked our clothing so the mantles are sticking quite close to the body, however, Daami isn¡¯t wearing anything under the mantle? Why didn¡¯t she have anything on underneath when she put on the dress of the costume before we left?
Ah she noticed my staring.
¡°Heh? Did you stop because you know I was right? Are you more grateful of my assistance? fufufu, it¡¯s ok I forgive you, I mean what will you do without me.¡±
Daami smirks as she blushes triumphantly.
Stop smirking! Maybe take a look at yourself...
¡°Uh you¡¯re not wearing underwear you know?¡±
¡°!¡±
She looked down right away and quickly pulled the blankets around her.
¡°Stop looking!¡±
Violent flying kicks come my way in a ragtag manner, not even a martial artist who has trained himself for decades in a super secluded monastery with a bald monk who never revealed the ancient war arts to the outside world, could predict this unprecedented ¡®attack¡¯.
¡°Gobu~¡±
Letting out a stupid noise as a kick lands square into my stomach and another heel flows into my jaw almost simultaneously.
¡°Agh¡ Daami¡ you¡ idio-¡±If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
And so Aras, the MC of our story has died.
~*~
Or not, he just passed out. And so.
The next morning.
I pace along the streets in a grumpy manner with Daami a distance away behind me.
I have a spectacular red bump surfacing on my cheeks due to this clumsy girl.
¡°I¡¯m sorry Ar- Ah- Achoo!¡±
¡°At Least finish my name!¡±
The idiot caught a slight cold after jumping into bed all wet.
¡°(Did you hear about Sir Bellado?)¡±
¡°(Apparently something has happened last night.)¡±
¡°(There''s talks of the officials hurrying around this morning.)¡±
Judging from the conversation of the daily shoppers and citizens on the streets, news about Sir Bellado has flooded across the city. It appears a major announcement was going to be made at Sir Bellado¡¯s mansion. Everyone in the city was talking about this.
Of course we headed there right away, surely that stupid Noble had listened.
I don¡¯t want to go through the trouble of preparing and haunting him again.
Might get too deep into character if I go a second time...
~*~
At the same mansion we infiltrated last night.
A temporary podium and speaking stand was set up.
A extremely clean dressed man steps up and stands before the stand.
Guardsmen surrounded the front of the podium as the man prepared.
He has a clean trimmed mustache, with short brushed back brown hair. His whole robe was plain but the embroideries and material definitely looked expensive. Just by standing at the podium, he gave an overbearing presence.
¡°It¡¯s the Governor!¡±
¡°No way, he usually is a really busy man.¡±
¡°Yeah I thought so too, he doesn¡¯t leave the office often.¡±
¡°Why is the Governor here at Sir Bellado¡¯s mansion?¡±
The crowd¡¯s gossips begun the moment the man got onto the stand. It appears this is the Governor of this city, the highest ranked noble. From the gossip from the crowd it appears this Governor is a decent hard working noble compared to Bellado, but since he let Bellado splurge himself without control, I can¡¯t say for myself if this Governor is a good or bad person.
¡°Silence! the Governor will begin the announcement.¡±
One of the guardsmen announced.
¡°Citizens of Mabrosa. Today I am here to announce the resignation of Sir Bellado.¡±
An explosion of muttering begin around in the crowd the moment he announced that first sentence.
¡°Be quiet~¡± (Guardsman)
Things calmed down again.
¡°Sir Bellado had experienced some personal and private issues, so he will return to the countryside and govern a remote area close to his hometown village.
Sir Bellado has already handed in his resignation letter to me this morning at the Governor¡¯s office.
Sir Bellado will be releasing all staff and slaves he had hired and owned.
Sir Bellado will be selling the mansion but only to those who has never or will never deal in or keep slaves.
He gives a warning to those who might purchase the mansion and the public in general.
¡®Do not mistreat slaves. Or you will regret it. You will definitely regret it.¡¯
I do not know what Sir Bellado has gone through, however he was in a hurry.
The resignation procedure was completed lawfully and correctly.
Sir Bellado will no longer come back to Mabrosa. He had personally stated this.
That is all.¡±
The very moment the announcement finished, an explosion of cheer¡¯s sounded throughout the crowd.
I looked at Daami, she has the biggest smile on her face I have ever seen.
¡°I see you¡¯re happy Daami. Looks like the plan worked.¡±
¡°Speak for yourself.¡±
Huh? I didn¡¯t even realise, I touched my own face.
I was smiling broadly as well.
¡°Hahaha! We did it Aras, we did it!¡±
Daami tightly hugs me and spins.
Well whatever, this is the best news we can hear today.
¡°Yes we did, yes we did.¡±
The cheers continued to roar, it seems Bellado was really hated in this city.
The crowd continued to celebrate even after the Governor and guardsmen had left the vicinity.
Chapter 22: We meet again
After the commotion and celebrations died down, the crowd slowly begun diserpating.
It appears not all of the government official left with the Governor, two officials and one guard stayed behind to set up a table and chair with paper work soon to be stacked on top of.
Near the fence of the mansion, one of the officials is now seated with a stack of paperwork while the other walked around gathering people in a line while holding a clipboard. The guard was simply standing beside the table performing his guard duties.
¡°There appears to be slaves amongst the people they are grouping up Aras.¡±
¡°I see that, I wonder what¡¯s happening?¡±
¡°Oh look, the slave girl from before is also there. It looks like she hasn¡¯t noticed us yet.¡±
¡°Yeah, why don''t we go up to them and see what''s going on.¡±
Separating from the now mostly dissipated crowd, we make our way towards the setup at the mansion fence.
¡°Excuse me sir, what is happening at the moment?¡±
The official holding the clipboard turns in my direction from my query.
He looks at me up and down before deciding to reply.
¡°These are the workers and slaves previously owned by Sir Bellado, we are processing them through their contracts and documents.¡±
¡°I understand, does that mean they will be free after this?¡±
¡°Yes, I suppose you can say that, once we are finished with the process, they are left to their own devices.¡±
¡°I see, thank you very much sir, have a nice day.¡±
Looks like once the government process is completed, our operation is 100% successful.
Daami seems to have gone over to chat with the slave girl already.
¡°So Aras, how did it go?¡±
¡°Well they said they are just processing contracts and documents to basically release everyone officially.¡±The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
¡°Oh that''s great news! Did you hear that Milia?¡±
The slave girl nods before speaking.
¡°Thank you for helping us, my name is Milia, I s-suppose this is the third time we have met, m-master Aras?¡±
¡°So we meet again, also no need for master, we are not anyone special, just call me Aras.¡±
¡°U-uh, ok, I understand.¡±
Ah she¡¯s pretty tensed up, or even using the word scared to describe her?
¡°It¡¯s ok Milia, he might look stupid but scary, mean and strict, but he¡¯s quite reliable.¡±
Oi.
¡°Your big sister Daami here will back you up if he bullies you, hehe.¡±
¡
I grab Daami by her collar,
¡°Don¡¯t worry Milia, let¡¯s talk more after you are finished with the release process. It seems Daami has told you some ¡®good¡¯ things about me hm?¡±
¡°U-um, ok I understand, I will wait patiently, mast- uhm, Aras and Daami.¡±
¡°I¡¯ll be ok Milia! He won¡¯t hurt me! See you soon!¡±
No no no, you will be in a world of hurt.
As I try to think of ways to punish this stupid idiot, I drag her away from the line by her collar.
~*~
Almost an hour has gone by until all the ex staffs and slaves of Sir Bellado were released.
Milia makes her way over to us the moment they were released.
¡°Oh how did it go Milia?¡±
¡°It went smoothly I think, I didn¡¯t really understand everything but they handed me back my slave contract with a big red stamp across it and after removing our collers and chains they said we were all free to go. By the way, what happened to Daami?¡±
After separating from Milia earlier, I had pulled Daami behind a tree and put her in a headlock before giving her a good old ¡®noogy¡¯, a technique I learned from my otherworld knowledge. The victim is put in a headlock and using a hand clutch in a fist, vigorous rubbing to the forehead is performed to induce pain. I did it so well I almost thought I saw smoke searing off her head.
She¡¯s now behind me sulking and not making a noise.
¡°Ah don¡¯t worry about her, she accidently tripped,¡±
I turned towards her as I continued,
¡°Right Daami?¡±
With the threatening glare I gave, Daami nods up and down quickly.
¡°I see¡?¡± Milia looks like she has a question mark hovering on her face.
¡°Anyways Milia, that¡¯s great news! Now you¡¯re free to do whatever you want right?¡±
¡°Oh um, yes. The other slaves have decided to return to their homes and villages they were take from, some with no homes to return to decided to stay in the city to find a job or become an adventurer as a new free person. But for me I don¡¯t have a home or village to return to and ¡¡±
She looks a bit gloomy when she got to this point. She looks visibly depressed.
¡°Is your past perhaps something you don¡¯t want to talk about in public?¡±
Milia agrees with several nods.
¡°I see, that¡¯s no problem, if you want to talk about it, let¡¯s go somewhere quiet first.¡±
¡°Don¡¯t worry Milia, we won¡¯t force you if you don¡¯t want to,¡±
Oh looks like Daami has decided to join in the conversation now.
¡°But if you do tell us, we will support you and listen to your story.¡±
¡°Ok. Thank you Daami, and thank you Aras.¡±
¡°No problem, let¡¯s head to the park and find a nice spot.¡±
¡°Ok.¡±
Chapter 23: A Slaves Past
¡°Ok, here should be fine, this is a considerably quiet area in the corner of the park, nobody would bother us here.¡±
It is now just after lunch time, in the early hours of the afternoon, we arrived at a park and finding a quiet location at this small park in the central district proved not too difficult of a task.
Judging the area we found was satisfying, we sat down on a bench under the soothing shade, we introduced ourselves again to Milia.
¡°So I am Aras as you already know, I use to live deep in the mountains with my mentor until I turned 18, I became a wanderer and after meeting Daami and coming to Mabrosa, I became an adventurer.¡±
¡°And I am Daami, the cute, reliable and charming hunter who became an adventurer as well and I am also 18.¡±
What¡¯s with that introduction...
¡°Oh and I am actually a quarter-Elvin,¡±
Daami shows Milia her odd ears,
¡°And Aras is actually an Orgrekin.¡±
I nod in response to Daami.
¡°I see, I thought when I first met Aras, he said you were same species as me I thought you were a Dark-Elvin as well. Ah My name is Milia Arishia, I am 15 years old now and I am a Dark-Elvin.¡±
¡°Are Dark-Elvins different to normal Elvins?¡±
¡°Oh um, I¡¯m not so sure myself Aras, I just remembered stories from my childhood about Dark-Elvins and Elvins however since then I have being a slave¡¡±
Tears begin forming in Milia¡¯s eyes.
¡°It¡¯s of if it¡¯s too hard for you to tell us Milia, you don¡¯t have to force yourself!¡±
¡°No it¡¯s fine Daami, I trust you guys, you saved our pitiful lives after all.¡±
We both nod and listened earnestly.
¡°It started when I was still a child, my family lived in a Dark-Elvin village, the village didn¡¯t have other races beside Dark-Elvins. Our race was quite reclusive, we didn¡¯t interact with other races often. We were proud of our technology, the entire village is built on flying ships floating in the sky.¡±
2x ¡°The sky!?¡±
¡°U-um yea, we Dark-Elvins lived in the sky, our Skyships carried houses to live in, land to farm on, military equipment for protection, and more, we were very safe and happy.¡±
This narrative has been purloined without the author''s approval. Report any appearances on Amazon. Both Daami and I were captivated by the story.
¡°Daami does Elvins also live in the sky?¡±
¡°Um, I don¡¯t think so, from the stories I heard the Elvins were just normal race that lived in the forests.¡±
¡°That should be correct, we Dark-Elvin¡¯s were descendants of Elvins however, our ancestors were actually the Elvins who migrated to Dwarven countries to study technology. Ever since living in the sky, we did not have much shade and the long time sun exposure caused our skins to evolve and become darkened. Well this was the story we always got taught in primary school when I was a child.¡±
¡°That sounds amazing.¡±
¡°It was until one day, my father who worked as the captain of the fuel transportation brigade went down to the surface. It was a common job, out of many Dark-Elvin Skyships, this was one of the jobs that require travel and contact with surface races. Usually it is quite safe because Dark-Elvins and Dwarvens made a pact, they would help with our fuel supplies, so we often landed in Dwarven countries.
I often admired my father and the surface world, so on that day, I snuck onto his transport ship and came down to the surface. However¡¡±
The mood has dampened again.
¡°We were ambushed. The Dwarven country¡¯s soldiers themselves attacked. My father, the captain did not know why, no communication or reports were out of the ordinary. Not even until the annihilation of the transport force. I was saved because father knew something was not same as the usual due to instinct and asked his trusted subordinate to hide me in a cargo crate before landing. After the fighting broke out, father was fighting to protect the crew and he died fighting right in front of my eyes. His subordinate escaped the fighting momentarily to where I was hiding, covered me in a sheet and snuck me away. Just before reaching the edge of a forest he told me to run away with all my might. I ran into the forest but turned around and looked as I hid behind bushed. It was then I saw the subordinate get killed by several Dwarven soldiers. They came into the forest to search for more escapees, I tried not to make any noise while hiding in the bush for a whole 2 hours before they stopped the search. It was during my hiding when I overheard the Dwarven soldiers, ¡®Do not let any one of them Dark-Elvins escape, King Gophus demands it.¡¯, since that day I have be running and hiding until finally I was captured by a slave trader and forced to become a slave. Soon after that I traveled from location to location of towns and cities I knew nothing of, I believe we traveled a continent as there was a long ship voyage involved. At the end of a year¡¯s worth of travelling with slave traders I was purchased by Sir Bellado and brought to this city.¡±
Daami and I could not believe the story, what a tale, what an admirable father.
¡°Unfortunately, the only way back to the Skyship village is via another Skyship. I don¡¯t even know what the situation is like with my home land right now, whether the Dwarvens have betrayed us, or if all transport ships going to Dwarven kingdoms have being captured. I do not know if I will ever be able to go back!¡±
Milia begun bawling her eyes out.
Daami quickly brought her closer to comfort her.
With tears and a muffled voice.
¡°I will not forgive that Dwarven King, Gophus.¡±
The story was unbelievable, a whole race was betrayed, Milia was so young back then and she watched her father and her own race slaughtered right in front of her. With no way to return home, the fate of her village and race unknown, and to make matters worse, falling into slavery before turning to an adult.
We let her cry out everything she had held in for the past years of her life.
Milia slowly fell asleep, possibly used all her energy up from crying.
Daami and I exchanged looks, without speaking a word, we knew we had came to the same conclusion.
We will help this girl if she so desired.
Although things are getting a bit more troublesome. *sigh*
Chapter 24: A Start
Milia had slept throughout the afternoon, hopefully she¡¯s feeling better now.
Not long after she woke up Daami threw her a statement straight away.
¡°Milia, come on an adventure with us! Maybe we can look for clues along for way for you to go back to the Dark-Elvin Skyships.¡±
¡°U-um are you sure Daami? Will that be ok? A former slave like me¡¡±
¡°What are you talking about Milia, we are already friends right Aras?¡±
¡°Of course! We are already partners in crime haha.¡±
Milia blushes but she seems much happier now, the mood is relaxed and she has a clear smile on her face.
¡°Right, next course of business, because we now have one more companion, we need to prepare some extra supplies, and of course better clothes for Milia, we can¡¯t have her wear ¡®rags¡¯ anymore.¡±
¡°Yeah ok, Milia can wear some of my clothes for the time being.¡±
¡°I¡¯ll pay for 1 more room at the inn, you two can share a room and tomorrow morning we can get the necessities and head out! By the way, how much money do you have left Daami.¡±
¡°Um about 2 silver left on me¡¡±
Why is she twitching all over the place now, acting all shy.
¡°I see, well you still have 5 gold back at the Association, so you can pay me back for the inn fees later.¡±
¡°!¡±
Why does she look so surprised at that.
¡°What do you mean!? This is when you were suppose to say, ¡®don¡¯t worry Daami, your best friend Aras here will pay for you since I have so so much money, and you are such a pretty and delicate girl, I can¡¯t let you pay.¡¯ right Milia?¡±
¡°... um¡±
¡°What do you mean ¡®what do you mean¡¯ you idiot! Why do I have to pay for everything! My funds are not endless!¡±The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
¡°But but!¡±
¡°Pfft¡±
We turned to look at the source of sound, it was Milia.
She¡¯s laughing her heart out.
¡°I can¡¯t believe it, the heroes who saved me act like this, you guys are a riot.¡±
¡°O-of course, I told you didn¡¯t I? We are no one special, Daami¡¯s especially not special.¡±
¡°Hey!¡±
¡°Puufhahaha¡±
Looking at Milia, and then at each other, we couldn¡¯t help but to laugh ourselves.
¡°You know what Daami, who cares! Forget paying me back, let¡¯s just have a great adventure from now on!¡±
¡°Ohh! Aras! I knew you were joking! I¡¯m hungry let¡¯s get some dinner!¡±
¡°Yea that¡¯s a good idea, but you can pay for your own dinner tonight.¡±
¡°Wha-! But I only have 2 silver and the Association is closed for the night!¡±
¡°That¡¯s your problem.¡±
And so with Daami throwing a little fit and Milia enjoying the shenanigans, we make our way to a restaurant and had dinner on the way to the Sunflower Inn.
The next morning we packed everything, got supplies with Milia included and made our way out of the Mabrosa from the northern gates, a different gate from the one me and Daami came in from.
Not far from the forest and the main road, Daami asks me,
¡°Where are we going now Aras?¡±
¡°Well from the map we got from the Association, we can complete the activity for a monster subjugation at the Green Crystalis Lake north of here. Afterwards we can hand in the completed activity at a branch in Viana the next city over.¡±
¡°Oh how long will the trip take?¡±
¡°About 4 days total. 2 day to the site of subjugation and 2 days to the city Viana.¡±
¡°Agh, why couldn''t we get a cart¡¡±
¡°Because you¡¯re broke and I am not wasting money! Rest assured, the reward this time is pretty good due to the distance. It¡¯s a low level subjugation quest anyways just the amount is high, and the distance is far, so not many people take it.¡±
¡°I¡¯m excited Aras and Daami! My first time being an Adventurer, come on! let¡¯s go let¡¯s go!¡±
Milia skips ahead excitedly.
This morning we quickly had Milia signed up as an Adventurer and we registered a party, we left the name of the party for the time being but now we can share quests together.
When seeing Trisha the receptionist again, for some reason she was annoyed at us but not at Milia, I wonder why? That was discrimination Trisha! That was discrimination!
And so we depart on our first official adventure as Adventurers.
chapter 25: Relaxing Lunch
¡°What¡¯s for lunch Aras?¡±
¡°All you think about is your stomach huh?¡±
¡°Hey! I¡¯m just hungry ok. I¡¯m still growing.¡±
Yea I wish those nutrients would go to the brain instead of... I''ll leave it there for the imagination.
¡°I-I¡¯m also a little hungry Aras.¡±
¡°Well if Milia is hungry then I suppose we could stop soon and hunt some animals in the forest.¡±
¡°Why is it only when Milia said so then you agree?..¡±
With light teasing of Daami we detoured off the main road to start a bit of hunting.
¡°So this will be your first time ever coming to a forest and hunting right Milia?¡±
Although I don¡¯t know what is tasked for a slave, however I am sure they won¡¯t be allowed to go anywhere without the master being close.
¡°Mhm, I haven¡¯t being out of the city ever since I was captured by the slave merchant, and not long after I was sold to Sir Bellado.¡±
¡°Sorry Milia¡¡±
¡°No, it¡¯s ok, It¡¯s all in the past now, I¡¯m just happy I got to be friends with you guys and get to enjoy myself now! hehe.¡±
¡°Milia¡¡±
Daami is looking at Milia like she¡¯s an adorable puppy.
¡°Ok! Leave it to us Milia, we will show you the ropes!¡±
¡°Of course, ok Daami you go ahead and scout.¡±
¡°Okie Dokie. Be right back Mili¡±
Daami runs off deeper into the forest.
¡°Mili¡¡±
Looks like Milia is happy with given a new nickname.
¡°Let¡¯s go Milia, that idiot might get in trouble.¡±
And so we followed deeper into the forest.
~*~
It¡¯s almost past noon, nearing the end of lunch time when we finally spotted a worthy hunt.
A Bullraffe, to easily explain it would be a cross between a cow and a giraffe, a grazing animal feeding off leaves and fruits from medium sized trees. It has a strong muscular cow body while the neck is stretched upwards, the facial features matches that of a cow except having giraffe horns. The Bullraffe isn¡¯t as tall as a giraffes from the otherworld, however it is agile, but according to Daami, they are relatively easy to hunt.
¡°So the main dangers of the Bullraffe is its charge, the moment the Bullraffe starts charging, it slowly drops it¡¯s head as it gains momentum before headbutting the prey.¡±
Ah a bit like jousting.
¡°However they are limited in close space so if we can corner it amongst trees, it should be trapped and unable to fight back.¡±
Following Daami''s quick introductions I organised our party.
¡°Ok, then Daami, you focus on distracting the Bullraffe and herd it amongst the trees, once ready I will fire a magic while Milia finishes it off with the bow.¡±
2x ¡°Ok.¡±
And the plan was set in motion.
¡°¡®Water Pump!¡¯¡±
Daami fires a water magic that seems to be stronger than what she had shown me before, although the magic is similar in nature, where a jet of water, instead of a spout, shoots out of her palms and pushes the Bullraffe slightly. The force from the water jet almost causes the beast to lose balance.
The Bullraffe panics but stumbles amongst the trees with no chance to fight back, I fire one of my more powerful spells,
¡°¡®Fire Flare!¡¯¡±
A ball of fire is shot into the air before dropping on top of the animal, the explosion causes a light wind to blow outwards while spreading out a cloud of dirt, dust and burnt debris.
The downside to this powerful spell is the mana cost.Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation.
¡°Now Milia!¡±
With only the outline of the Bullraffe visible, Milia fires a magic imbued arrow at the animal, and soon after the dust settles.
The Bullraffe lies lifeless with an arrow deeply embedded into the head¡
¡°Wow¡¡±
That came from Daami, of course I was surprised too, the arrow was so far into the Bullraffe¡¯s head, it almost came out the otherside.
¡°I knew you were good with a bow, but I didn¡¯t know you were this good¡ didn¡¯t you say you could only use simple wind magic enchantments?¡±
¡°Well, the last time I used a bow was before I joined dad on his transport work, being races that lived on Skyships, we inclined towards wind magic, and with bows and other projectile weapons, we enhanced the projectiles with mind magic so they do more damage, this is how we hunt sky beasts and monsters.¡±
¡°Wow Mili, and you¡¯re still this good without using the bow for a whole 3 years?¡±
I agree with Milia, she was able to fire such a deadly arrow and she was captive as a slave the whole time. Just imagine if she had a bow when the incident happened, maybe she wouldn¡¯t of gotten captured by the slave trader.
¡°Hehe, I¡¯m definitely rusty compared to before, I could of hit the eye instead of just the side of the head. My wind magic is only basic unlike father¡¯s, I can only apply a simple spin to the arrow so it shoots straighter and sharper.¡±
¡°Still it is very impressive, anyways lunchtime is almost over, we better hurry.¡±
¡°Oh oh! Mili watch me harvest the remains, I¡¯m proud of my hunting skills.¡±
It is as if Daami wanted to show off her skills all the while not losing to Milia, she ran towards the Bullraffe and started disassembling it.
~*~
After landing such a fantastic hunt, as well as expending all of our energy and mana causing some of us''s stomach to grumble (I won''t mention who but you will probably have an idea), we decided to treat ourselves to a light feast.
The meat of the Bullraffe mostly lean and musclely however around the belly and towards the back or the rump area of the beast, the meat had fattier tissues. Although from my other memories, the only time the person from the otherworld ate high quality meat was at a meat restraunt that grilled meat in small pieces over a plate made of metal wires, called mesh grill I believe. And from those memories it was amazingly delicious.
Luckily alot of animals and beasts in this world have similar counterparts in the world my other knowledge come from, such as this Bullraffe had a body similar to a cow. therefore various cooking techinques for meat of the cow aka. beef, such as the grilling over charcoal used at the restraunt I mentioned before, could be applied.
Unfortunately I tried to find products like that in the city shopping district and stalls, but the closes I could find was a simple flat iron plate... I must make my own one day!
For the sake of delicious food!
As I have pulled the iron plate and started wiping it down, Daami randomnly pats me on the shoulder with a firery look...
"I don''t know what you were thinking but my instincts told me to come here and cheer you on!"
With a triumphant look she leaves me with a thumbs up from a hand covered in blood along with a wink before she returns to harvesting cuts of meat from the resting Bullraffe.
...
Oi oi does she have some kind of sixth sense? That girl''s ''Gut'' instinct is scary. Also...
"Wipe your hand next time! Don''t go leaving blood on other people''s clothes!"
~*~
As if not wanting to wait any longer the Daami havested the catch quickly while showing Milia some beginner ropes on harvesting animal parts.
First the larger rump parts of the meat were cut into chunks and used along with starchy vegitables called Tots similar to potatos, except slightly more elongated. Another vegitable was Carrot which was actually exactly same as the one from the other world. With all three ingredients added to a pot with various dried herbs and spices we purchased, we added water and let it boil. While using some techniques of the other knowledge, the stew would require a longer time to complete for it to reach enhanced deliciousness but I was worried since the stew would end up being cooked for much shorter time so will it be not as good? But as the saying goes ''beggers can''t be choosers''.
While the stew was cooking, Daami and Milia went to gather some freshedible leaves from the surroundings.
I used what would be the Sirloin cuts and sliced them relatively thin. The Loin cutswere cut into thicker slices instead.
After I finished I waited untilDaami and Milia got back with some handfulls of leaves, or better to call them leafy vegitables, with each leaf having various sizes but fairly large in surface area, most having sizes similar to the size of a palm.
Using the grilling techniques I have learnt from otherworldly knowledge, I decided it was best to wait for them to get back and cook the meat at Medium Rare, since this took a short time. This was the first time I learned that cooking meat simply by grilling had 5 different stages and it was considered a highly difficult techinique to get it just right at each stage of cooked.
~*~
After the meats were cooked and the stew completed, we dug in.
"Oh my goodness Aras!!! It''s melting! I''m melting!"
"Ahhh I''m so happy, all those years of tasteless food are instantly overwritten with this flavour."
Daami started slouching in a silly manner as she took bites of the meat I grilled. While Milia is wiping away small tears that have formed at the coner of her eyes.
I of course took started eating alongside them and I''m not bragging here but I think I did an excellent job for basicly my first attempt in ''Grilled Cuisines''.
"It''s ok go ahead, praise me more if you want, your Grill Master has appeared!"
"Mumph eephh shooouu ggguuuph, mumph cannmph stomnomh" (Auto Translator: This is sooo good, I can''t stop.)
"Finish chewing before you talk! I can''t understand a word..."
"I don''t know if Daami was actually praising you or not there Aras but I think this is extremely delicious, however I don''t have much to compare it to."
"That''s ok Milia, thank you."
"Good Job."
Barely a one second pause between Daami''s end of chewing and stuffing her mouth with more meat and stew, she had let out a quick remark.
"Yeah yeah, I don''t expect much words of praise from you anyways now here is a technique that you should try when eating the meat."
I grabbed slices of meat and wrapped it in a leaf before applying some sauces we had purchased. The sauce used this time had a taste of salty, mild sweetness, peppery spicyness and a garlic pungency.
Ahh this is sooo good.
"The deliciousness has upped another level!"
"Even Better!"
Both Daami and Milia quickly imitated me and exclaim in praise. In Daami''s case she simply ate it along with the rest of the meat she still had in her mouth. I was suprised she could tell the difference.
~*~
After the delicious Bullraffe feast, having savedsome cuts of meat for later and the horns and hide for materials to sell at the Adventurer¡¯s Association, we continued onwards to the Green Crystalis Lake.
~*~
Another one and a half days later, we arrived at the Lake only to find a peculiar sight in front of us.
A man simply fishing except¡
He¡¯s in his underwear half naked.
Chapter 26: The Man in underwear
¡°...¡±
How do I even react to this? There is literally an old skinny man sitting on a rock in his underwear, fishing into the lake.
Is- is he waving at us? Did he notice us? No way right?
¡°Um Aras, I think it is really dangerous here¡¡±
¡°Yea we should leave right now!¡±
¡°I get that it¡¯s an old man in his underwear, maybe he''s a hermit leaving in these parts? Worst case scenario his just a weird old pervert and we just have to catch him and report him back to Mabrosa maybe?¡±
¡°No no no, can you not see the aura his emitting? His mana pool is enormous, this is larger than anything I have ever seen Aras!¡±
¡°I agree with Daami Aras, since you can use magic, can¡¯t you also see the magic aura?¡±
¡°Well yes but I¡¯m use to this aura, I¡¯ve seen something like this before.¡±
¡°Before? Aras are you ok? I didn¡¯t think a lack of common sense would be this bad¡¡±
¡°Quiet you! Like you could talk.¡±
¡°Um I¡¯m not sure what Daami is talking about, but Aras, you did live deep in the mountains with your mentor right? And the next person you had ever met was Daami yes?¡±
¡°Well yeah. Kind of¡¡±
I guess she doesn¡¯t need to know about the slime and dead otherworlder.
¡°So how could you have met anyone with a crazy large mana aura like this?¡±
¡°Well my mentor was like this?¡±
¡°Wha- so your mentor was also a monster like this?¡±
A monster?
¡°No not a monster just a strict old man.¡±
¡°Aras, anyone with an aura like this can¡¯t be normal, I still think we should get out of here.¡±
All whilst we were busy emerging ourselves within the little conversation we are having, the supposably monstrous aura old man appeared right behind us.
¡°Hohoho hello there youngsters.¡±
¡°Hiiii!¡±
¡°Ahhh!¡±
The girls scream out from the sudden visit.
¡°Hohoho no need to be suprised, I bring you presents, come join me.¡±
What is this old man, a perverted santa claus?
I question the sight in front of me, the old man had lizard like pupils of emerald in colour, with short bowl cut hair and long beard + mustache combo primarily in the colour white, but hints of green can be seen. As the old man in underwear stands with his one of his hands on his hips while the other presents some weird looking fish held by ropes in his hand¡This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
Ah! That¡¯s the pest that we were suppose to exterminate at this lake.
¡°P-please don¡¯t hurt us! We mean no harm!¡± (Milia)
¡°A-Ah Aras! Do something!¡± (Daami)
Daami is vigorously tugging away on my shoulder sleeves while Milia is performing a surrender pose.
¡°Ok ok, stop tugging my clothes¡ Um hello there sir, we are just adventurers and are here to do an activity for the Adventurer¡¯s Association, can I ask who you might be? My friends are quite afraid of you since you are a stranger to us all.¡±
¡°Ho ho ho, quite composed for someone who I just met, most people react like the two young girls over there because of my aura.¡±
¡°Ah well my mentor had similar aura to you so.¡±
¡°Mentor eh? Hmmm very well. My name is Eminos, a Dracoren, this is my holiday location, I was just sunbathing in my swimsuit while fishing a little in the lake.¡±
So it seems he wasn¡¯t a pervert, the underwear was just a speedo looking swimwear.
¡°So young ladies, there is no need to be afraid, I¡¯m just a simple tourist, I mean no harm.¡±
¡°Oh! Why didn¡¯t you say so, scaring us for no good reason.¡±
Daami, your change of attitude is a bit too fast isn¡¯t it?
¡°A Dracoren¡¡±
Milia seems to be more focused on his race, or title?
¡°Um what is a Dracoren?¡±
¡°You haven¡¯t heard of the race Dracoren Aras?¡±
¡°Hooh, young man you say your mentor had similar magic aura to me yet you don¡¯t know of my race.¡±
¡°Well, my master didn¡¯t particularly tell me about his race. I assumed he wasn¡¯t a Humankind since he had lizard like pupils but I wasn¡¯t sure what race he was.¡±
¡°Ho ho ho, I see, well come to my cabin for some tea and I shall explain to you.¡±
¡°Oh perfect timing! I am thirsty after all the traveling, let¡¯s go Aras and Mili!¡±
¡°You seem to be too carefree now Daami¡ but thank you Eminos.¡±
¡°Ho hoh you¡¯re quite welcome, now follow me.¡±
~*~
After a short moment walking past the lake towards and past the trees on the other side we arrive at a relative small single roomed cabin.
¡°Welcome to my humble abode. I won¡¯t be long with the tea.¡±
And so as we all gathered at a simple table sitting off-centred towards the left of the cabin while Eminos put the weird fish looking monsters in a bucket and prepared tea for us at the back.
As I looked around, the cabin was extremely simple, a bed at the back right, simple kitchen built at the back left with the table at the centre left where we are right now. A bookshelf with a reclining chair situated at the other end of the right side, opposite of the bed.
Everything seemed to be made out of wood with minimal metal products around beside cooking utensils. The place and furniture inside appears to be well taken care off despite the cabin supposedly being a holiday location rarely visited.
Eminos had finished preparation and brought over tea in simple ceramic cups.
¡°Here we go, enjoy.¡±
¡°Thank you, ah I am Aras by the way, the carefree girl is Daami and the younger girl is Milia.¡±
Both Daami and Milia greet in response as Eminos presents the tea to each one of us.
¡°Ho ho, very good, now I presume I should explain from a point of considering no one has a good knowledge of my race correct?¡±
I looked at Milia as Eminos sits down in his chair to begin explaining.
¡°Well I heard of the Dracoren race when I was a child in stories but I do not know too much about the race other than they are very rare and elusive.¡±
It seems Milia had the knowledge from her childhood back in the Dark Elvin village.
¡°I see, then I shall explain from the beginning.¡±
Chapter 27: Ancient History?
¡°Since the beginning of time, the world had gods that governed the world. In actuality there is one Almighty God who oversaw everything but there were gods specifically bound to our world to assist it¡¯s creation. These gods had genders and specific powers, these gods and goddesses had further demigods under them as subordinates. Every god, goddess and demigod were also worshipped along with the Almighty God. I don¡¯t know if you have heard of them but even today there are many churches and religions devoted to various gods, while only major large churches such as the Equilax and Neutraleus church follows only the Almighty God.
There existed 6 gods and goddesses pairs with equal and opposite powers along with 4 additional independent gods. Along with these 10 gods and goddesses there are different amounts of demigods under them.
First pair is the god of Life and the goddess of Death.
Under them are demigods: Love, Joy, Fertility, Vitality, Longevity, vs Neglect, Sorrow, Maturity, Decay and Aging
There is the goddess of Tranquility and god of Chaos and their demigods: Peace, Law, Order, Freedom vs War, Instinct, Violence and Constraint
The goddess of Justice and goddess of Evil or simply the goddess sisters of good and bad, has the demigods, Light and Darkness.
The remaining 3 gods are god of Magic, goddess of Elements and god of Space and Time.
The god of Magic has no demigods.
The goddess of Elements has a demigod for each element as well as a demigod of Nature, Sky and Sea.
The god of Space and Time has a single demigod of Void/Nothingness.
Finally there is one extra god, the god of Knowledge and Wisdom with his demigod of Affinity, who both worked with everything and everyone.
All gods and goddesses worked together to sustain the world, different combinations of their powers would produce different results. Powers of demigods are also included in this aspect.
For example, god of Magic with goddess of Elements created Magic Elements for the world and with the help of god of Knowledge and demigod of Affinity, various beings could use magic however this depended on the composition of the race.
Another example is god of Life gives birth to all races however the demigods under the god of Life, such as Longevity work with Affinity and other gods such as god of Magic and goddess of Elements and her demigods to produce different results. My race of Dracoren is a long living race, our life spans reach 1000 years or so along with a large magic affinity, however we have low affinity with fertility and so there are not many members of our race. It¡¯s as if demigod of Fertility¡¯s powers were not compatible with our race while Longevity had more influence. And so the race with the most affinity with a certain demigod, their appearance also derive features or qualities matching.
Something like descendents, in our case, the demigod of Longevity is a Dragonica, our appearance are descendants of the Dragonicas. Of course, Ancient Dragonicas still exists in the world, there are probably less than 3 in the world right now that I know of, you might say they could be direct relatives to the demigod, while they are distant ancestors to our race. This book''s true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
Another interesting thing is some races are very similar, so similar in fact they could be considered under the same race. For example, humankinds and Beastman kinds are very similar, their affinity to different gods¡¯ and demigods¡¯ powers produced their traits. But even if they are probably the most similar composition of gods¡¯ creations, they still separate themselves as different races. War between these races still exist even today.
Now then, I¡¯ve explained quite a lot so far, perhaps a break is in order? Have you younglings understood mostly of what I explained? Hohoho.¡±
It definitely came as a surprise to suddenly learn about all these different gods and the history of the creation of the world and its various races. It almost felt surreal. I wonder how the other two have taken this.
¡ Daami looks like she¡¯s struggling while Milia is in deep thought.
¡°Perhaps you want to hear about it in more detail? Well starting with the god of Life, his name is-¡±
¡°Ah I am sorry to interrupt but I think that will be alright, no need to trouble yourself Eminos, I think this will give us plenty to think about, (especially Daami.) Could I ask some questions instead?¡±
¡°Hohoho that is quite alright, what would you like to ask.¡±
¡°Are Dracoren the only race with large mana auras like you? If so would that mean my mentor would have being a Dracoren?¡±
¡°Well that depends, normally the race of Dracoren in general has large mana capacities, however some extinguished individuals from other races can reach near or the same level of mana capacity, your own Ogrekin race for example and the Elvin race the young ladies are from have also had excellent Mages and Magic Warriors in the past who reached the peak of their powers. But that was not common, usually these talented individuals only exist one in a million, I have only met a number of them, a number so small I could count them by one hand, but even so their total number might not lose to the population of elder Dracoren Masters. Perhaps you could describe the features of your mentor?¡±
¡°I see, well my mentor actually has the same type of eyes as you, however he was a short old man, his body was covered in a tan with rough looking skin. His hair was white with streaks of brown mixed throughout often kept in a short cut. And like you he had 4 jaggered teeth where 2 teeth were each protruding from upper and lower rows. He looked more like a blacksmith than a scholar, but albeit he dressed in robes like a researcher and was strict but also deeply knowledgeable. However he liked to keep to himself, he¡¯d only ever answer my queries if he felt like it¡¡±
¡°Hohoho well I think he might be also a Dracoren, since we Dracoren are long lived, the amount of knowledge we have gathered allow us to give the feeling of scholars, researchers, professors and the likes. Apart from the body build of course, that defers person to person. Also the only other race with eyes and teeth like ours would be the Repterians, however they have a small amount of scales on their bodies with a lively tail. Some of their race have legs like other beings but some have the strong tail only with no legs, extending from their waist and onwards. So from your explanation, it does not appear that your mentor had a tail. ¡±
¡°No that he did not, but this is quite a discovery, so does that mean you can also only use one type of magic only? My mentor would only ever teach me Light magic.¡±
¡°Hmmm that is half correct, we Dacoren are born with the affinity for two elements, including Light and Darkness, however depending on the age we reach maximum mana capacity, a limit for mortal beings, our appearance would stop along with one of our affinities, in the end we can only use one magic element. In my case, I reached my peak at age 149, a fairly average age for the Dracoren race to gain maximum magic capability and ended up with the Wind element.¡±
¡°Oh just like Mili.¡±
Oh, looks like Daami is following the conversation with her chiming in.
¡°Hoho, so you young lady is also a Wind Mage?¡±
¡°U-um yes, kind of, I learned a little bit of Wind Magic when I was a child from my parents but I¡¯m not good at it.¡±
¡°Oh? How come you didn¡¯t continue on with it? Are you more suited for another element?¡±
¡°Oh um, not particularly, it¡¯s just a bit of a long story...¡±
¡°I see, perhaps this story is also a misfortunate tale as well.¡±
Milia nods in reply to Eminos.
It seems Eminos has picked up from Milia¡¯s slight expressions that the story of her past was one that was not a happy tale.
¡°Well than young lady, give me just one second.¡±
Eminos stops the conversation briefly to get up from the table and makes his way towards the bookshelf I spotted earlier.
Chapter 28: A Gift and A Request
Eminos returns with a leather bounded book that had a thickness to it whilst giving off the aged feel.
He slightly blows the dust off the cover, a feature showing it had not left the shelves for a long period of its life.
After making sure most of the dust was cleared away at the side with light brushing, Eminos sits down again at the table and places the book in front of us.
The book appears to have survived for centries yet have kept it''s condition, the heading is also very legible except for the language, the words are written in a slightly different manner, is this a different language?
Before I could ask, it seems the question is about to be answered anyways as Eminos explains the book to us and to Milia in specific.
¡°This is actually an old magic manual I used back when I learned magic from my master, my master was actually an Elvin magician. This is written in old language text however it should still be readable as the language did not change too greatly from our modern tongue. You should most likely work out most of the meanings since only a few letters are different to our modern tongue. I shall gift this to you young lady, this should help you train your wind attribute magic. It also includes notes and additional chapters I have added throughout the years.¡±
Eminos slides the book towards Milia, and Milia with a pair of anticipating eyes stares at the book.
¡°Are you sure I can have this Eminos?¡±
¡°Hohoho, no problems at all, it was a quite common textbook back in those days. Ever since I have mastered all the magic spells over the centuries, I no longer need it, it was merely a study material to me. I also have no offsprings who use Wind magic like me to pass onto. Therefore it is just collecting dust in the book shelf.¡±
¡°Thank you so so much!¡±
Milia joyfully replied.
¡°No need to thank me, hohoho, if I had great granddaughters, I hope they turn out eloquent like you.¡±
¡°Hehehe.¡±
It¡¯s good seeing Milia happy rather than sad.
¡°Although I do have a great grand nephew who is- nevermind that for the time being...
Now then before I left to retrieve the book we were talking about?¡±
¡°Ah yes, you answered my question about if Dracoren race used a single element, since my mentor did only use light element magic, he said I had the ability to learn it but Ogrekins usually only have two attributes of Fire and sometimes Darkness. He said I was a peculiar case when he took me in.¡±
¡°Hmmmm, I do not know too in depth about your race, perhaps you might have to seek an elder from the Ogrekin clans or a historian perhaps. But I can sense that you have a unique composition, maybe it is what allowed you to pick up more than your original affiliated magic elements.Your mentor probably already knew this and this was probably also the reason your mentor had taught you magic in addition to your original affiliated magic.¡±
¡°I see, my mentor did teach me the basic fire and dark magic that I am able to use right now, however they are at most intermediate level. But in that case, will I be able to learn more elements?¡±
¡°That I can not guarantee young man, however it does not hurt to try. Just study that textbook along with the young lady and see if you can pick up anything. Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on the original website.
Also since our conversation have begin, I am curious, what is your mentor¡¯s name?¡±
¡°Ah, I simply called him Master Ravios, but he had named me since I was born an orphan so I do not know if the last name he had chosen for me is the same as his own, but my surname is Drakus.¡±
¡°Hohoho, what a pleasant surprise, it is indeed the same surname as your mentor has, be joyed, this must mean your mentor cared for you as if you were his descendant.¡±
¡°Ah, definitely! I always saw him as a grandpa figure myself, aside from being my master mentor.¡±
¡°Very good, very good.¡±
Eminos pauses a short while before continuing as he strokes his beard.
¡°Hohoho Ravios Drakus, he was my classmate so to speak, we studied at the same village school as children. Ah this is much before the Elvin master I met, we Dracoren stayed at Dracoren villages before turning adult at age of 16, afterwards we set out to find masters to study under ourselves. Depending on one¡¯s choice, the element the master will teach, is to be one of the elements we are compatible with.
I often met Ravios at different times around the world, since after we finished out mastery of the magic element we are left with, we would take on our own disciples or simply travel. The times we would have last seen each other could be separated by decades or even centuries. The last time I met my old friend was just over 100 years ago, I see he is still live and kicking hohoho.¡±
¡°Yes, before I left on my journey he was still quite lively and active. I¡¯m sure he would be still¡±
¡°That is good news, perhaps I will pay him another visit.
Now then I have given¡ if I remember correctly Milia?¡±
Milia responds with a yes to Eminos trying to clarify our names,
¡°A book with magic she can learn and train from, also Aras might be able as well, however Aras, I am unable to teach you any flame or darkness magic beyond intermediate as well, so you might have to continue your training under another master.¡±
¡°The magic manual you have given us is plenty, I already did not expect anything as great as this when we just came to have tea.¡±
¡°Aras is right! This is amazing, I could tell even just by lightly going over a few of the pages.¡±
Milia quickly supports my statement.
¡°Hohoho, that is good, now then the other young lass, what is it you are compatible with?¡±
Switching topics now, Eminos directs the question towards Daami who he might have felt to be left out.
¡°The powerful water magic!¡±
¡°Hohoho, quite a lively magic for a lively girl, however I do not have anything here that will assist you with that element. But I am sure you will find someone who can teach you also.¡±
After he wasn¡¯t able to help Daami out with her magic training, Eminos appears to have gone into deep thought as he strokes his long beard.
After a short while, displaying a reaction of coming to some sort of conclusion, he gets up and goes to fetch something.
¡°Perhaps¡¡±
A small mutter is heard, leaked under his breath as he leaves the table once again.
~*~
Once he returned, he had in his grasp a small pendant with a gem in the centre.
¡°Now I have a request of sorts for you young adventurers, but before you hear this request of mine, I would like to check to make sure, Aras, are you truly Ravios¡¯s disciple, did he ever leave you anything that you could produce as an identification or proof? If you truly are a disciple of my friend, I can certainly trust you with this request of mine.¡±
¡°Hmm I do have this but I¡¯m not sure if this can be of any proof, I was given a lucky charm as a sort of protection.¡±
I take out from my belongings a small ring, too small to go on a finger but it is threaded through a chain to form a necklace.
¡°I was given this as a child from my mentor, I do not know what it does but I have kept it with me all these years. It also has a weird inscription inside but I could not read it.¡±
I show the charm to Eminos.
¡°Hooh I do feel Ravios¡¯s magic aura coming from this, this is probably something he created himself, what it does exactly I do not know but a lucky charm would not be wrong to assume.¡±
Eminos looked at the small ring closely before becoming satisfied with the item.
¡°This is more than enough justification that you are a disciple of Ravios. Now then, please listen to my request, it is a simple request, basically find a certain someone for me¡¡±
Chapter 29: More Information
¡°My request is quite simple, please look for my great grand nephew.¡±
We quietly wait for Eminos to continue, if it¡¯s something simple like looking for someone, surely we as beginners should be able to find them, although it is a Dracoren, a race which lives often in solitude and adults travel or study under different mage masters in different places.
¡°He was a unique child, you might have trouble finding him but this is by no means an urgent request, so you can take your time. The problem is my grand nephew had ask me to find him since he hasn¡¯t heard from the boy since he finished school at the Dracoren village. Usually Dracoren children leave the schools at 18 however we Dracoren are not qualified as adults until the age of 30 and often stay in touch with our parents until that age. The great grand nephew whose name is Marcos, immediately left the village after school but did not undertake study with any mage master that we elder mages know of.¡±
¡°A run away from home situation?¡±
Daami asked Eminos after a pause in the description.
¡°Not in particular, allow me to explain. My great grand nephew Marcos is actually a natural born genius, he reached maximum magic capability at the age of 16, so he has a very young appearance. Perhaps it was a curse of being a genius, it also felt like Marcos never grew up mentally, as if he still has a mental age of 16. But this is not completely correct either, he does show some maturity for his current age, in which he should be 20 as of this year. But his maturity does not come in abundance like many other people at the age of 20.¡±
This guy, or kid? Sounds like a pain to deal with... is that like a child stuck in an adult¡¯s body kind of thing? Or like the version of Daami when she is dejected.
Either way just imagining having to deal with two Daamis would be tiring.
¡°Worry not,¡±
Crap was it showing on my face?
As if reading my mind, Eminos pauses and interjects his explanation.
¡°It is not what you think,¡±
I shouldn¡¯t be rude comparing this Marcos with Daami.
Ah Daami is glaring at me too, wait how does she know I¡¯m thinking about her? Is she also reading my mind!
Now now, calm yourself Aras, stay calm, it¡¯s probably just a coincidence. Right. Right?
... although I cannot see my face right now, I think I have escaped suspicion by adjusting it to a reaction of ¡®hmm yes do go on¡¯ kind of attitude.
¡°Marcos as I said is a genius, he was interested in combining magic elements and have researched on this topic all by himself since a very very young age, it was discovered by my grand nephew at the age of 11 but he thinks Marcos have researched all by himself as early as the age of 8. We believe he simply have locked himself away somewhere detecting in researching the combination of two elements. Since he has my family¡¯s bloodline, he should have wind compatibility, and his other element is believed to be water, as he reached the max capacity at age of 16, he could only use wind but he somehow researched a way to use a new type of magic by applying the previously compatible water element. Although he could not use the original water type spells, the new spells appling water element features could be used.¡±
¡°That sounds amazing.¡±
I agree with Daami, that does sound amazing, as expected of a genius.
¡°Indeed, perhaps Aras, if or once you meet him, you could learn to combine the different magic element affinities you possess.¡±This novel''s true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
¡°That would be extremely interesting! I¡¯m kind of looking forward to it now.¡±
Muahaha perhaps if I combine fire and dark to make dark flare magic or light and fire to make god flare magic! I''ll become a hero! ahahaha I''ll get to wear a cape and a mask and appear at the last seconds of every major event and save the day! I will become captain god magic! Ahahahaha
"Ahm,"
Daami glares at me with a cough, no way was it showing on my face? or was she actually reading my mind! not good not good my childish instincts took over, although I feel like it has something to do with a certain slime...
"Eminos, could someone with a single element learn to use a mixed element?" Milia had asked while I was in thought.
"It might be possible but I am no excpert in that area, afterall it is a new discovery made by Marcos. So your best bet would be to ask him in person."
"I see, then I will look forward to it as well."
¡°Hohoho, I take it you youngins might be interested in taking up my request then?¡±
¡°Yea sounds like fun!¡± (Daami)
Of course everything sounds fun to you.
¡°Hohoho very good. Anyways, it is believed the most likely place left that he would go to is one of the 3 great magic universities on this continent. Of course there are magic institutions on every continent due to the world being magic-centric, however I was asked to check the ones on this continent but I have not yet gotten around to all of them, I¡¯m taking it as a holiday trip you see. On the other 4 continents of the world, various magic institutes and research facilities have being checked by other family members, just the ones on this continent are left to me.¡±
¡°These magic institutes or magic universities as you would call them, are they a place to study magic? Similar to how Milia and us will train using the book you have given us?¡±
I mean the word University is familiar to me, with the otherworld knowledge it appears the person I gained the knowledge from had attended one of these ¡®University¡¯ places for a year, he was simply studying there on something related to other languages I believe.
¡°Well that is a simplification but it is not wrong. Magic Universities are a place where anyone from any background with excellent potential and tenacity to become stronger in the magical field should attend. A good example is many of the top ranked Adventurers are actually graduates of the various magic institutions around the world. We Dracoren sometimes attend these Universities to find our masters as well, many of our race end up teaching there in the latter stages of life, including me, I once taught at one of the Universities but that was centuries ago, Hohoho. Well, you will learn more about these Magic Universities in the future, for now I will introduce to you the 2 Magic Universities you should check, I have already being to The Grand Western University in Darmak Kingdom and there was no news of him there, the remaining two that I have not checked are Naturia Institute of Magic in Egolasta Country and Academy of Manifiesta in Veckrox Union.¡±
¡°Veckrox Union? Isn¡¯t that the next country after Kingdom of Becrulo that we are in right now?¡±
Millia seems to have knowledge of these newly mentioned countries.
¡°That is correct young lady, that would be the closest location if you were to start looking. Veckrox Union is smaller compared to the other 4 countries on this continent however the country it self is not to be taken lightly. The country was born several hundred years ago from smaller countries, originally formed by rich merchants, so it is a fairly wealthy country. Soon after the country was created, the Academy of Manifiesta was founded and is now like I said, one of the 3 largest magic institutes for studying and training magic on this continent. The country however only has one large city, it is its capital. The academy is in the heart of this very capital, in fact the academy takes up the majority of this capital city, almost as if the capital city is built around this institute of magic.¡±
¡°That does sounds interesting, but are you really ok with giving this ¡®family request¡¯ to us?¡±
¡°Yes it is fine, you are my old friend¡¯s disciple and this request isn¡¯t an urgent one, simply take your time like I have.¡±
¡°Wait then how come you are unable to continue the request yourself?¡±
¡°Oh no! Perhaps¡¡±
Daami seems to have come to a negative sort of conclusion as to why Eminos is unable to continue the request.
Well I don¡¯t blame her, he is relatively old even in Dracoren race perspective, but before I continued on thinking the same as Daami, Eminos replies with a serious look on his face.
¡°Nothing of the sorts young lady, it¡¯s just¡¡±
¡
¡°I can¡¯t be bothered, the cheeky little brat is a pain to deal with afterall.¡±
¡°...¡±
Seriously?
Chapter 30: Fishing Activity
¡°So wait, is that your reason in the end?¡±
¡°Yep, he¡¯s a little smartass that''s what he is. Ah but it¡¯s ok for you guys, he only acts like that with people he¡¯s close to, like his family members. He should be quite respectable towards strangers.¡±
¡°I see¡¡±
Although I don¡¯t have much confidence in this request now, perhaps I was right thinking that this ¡®kid¡¯ would be a pain to deal with.
¡°Anyways it is getting late, shall we prepare dinner? And afterwards will you youngins be staying the night?¡±
¡°Ah I think so, but it¡¯s ok, we have camping supplies so we will sort ourselves out, perhaps tomorro-¡±
¡°Oh oh! What¡¯s for dinner!¡±
Oi you glutton, let me finish talking first.
¡°Hohoho, fish stew and grilled fish of course with these freshly caught Flubber Trout.¡±
As the weird fish from before was presented, the appearence is quite off putting. It is a round looking fish in an ellipse shape, similar to a football, with the fins at the elongated ends and a big flat face across the middle.
Only Milia and I seem to be slightly off put by the fish¡¯s appearance while Daami still seems enthusiastic about dinner¡
¡°I know how you might feel but they are quite delicious, and there is an abundance of them, perhaps too many.¡±
¡°Ah yes, we are actually here on a quest to hunt those, there was reports of overpopulation of those fish and they could damage the ecosystem of the lake if left for too long.¡±
¡°Hoho I see, then tomorrow I shall help you as thanks for accepting my request, of course I will give you a justified reward once you complete the request on my behalf as well.¡±
And with that we chatted simply and ate dinner at Eminos¡¯ cabin before setting up camp for the night.
~*~
¡°Ohhh! I caught a big one! Look Aras!¡±
¡°That¡¯s not even a fish!¡±
For some reason Daami has caught a Webbed-Salamander, a lizard like creature with webbed feet reaching up to 2m in length, their teeth are jagged and can easily rip apart their prey.
And now this idiot somehow has caught it with a fishing hook, watching it splash around violently with an angry glare on its face.
¡°Hohoho it has gotten much livelier compared to the previous few days I have being fishing.¡±
Ah-ahh o-old man, the salamander is biting you head you know!
The salamander somehow broke free from Daami¡¯s line and instead of attacking Daami, it turned towards the nearby Eminos and took a bite at his head.
¡°Eminos!¡±
¡°Hohoho, it¡¯s ok, nothing but an itch.¡±
The salamander seems to be even angrier now, can it understand our words?
¡°Should we fire magic at it? What do we do Aras?¡±
Milia seems to be getting very worried at this point however,
¡°No no young lady, it is fine, I¡¯ll just release it back into the lake. Hmph!¡±
With a loud impact, Eminos punched the salamander in the head and it instantly let loose of its jaws before getting thrown into the middle of the lake.
Now the salamander is floating upside down on the surface¡
This old man is tough.
¡°I think you killed it Eminos?¡±
¡°Poor thing.¡±
Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site.¡°No no it¡¯s just sleeping, no worries.¡±
¡°Yea... I don¡¯t think they sleep upside down!¡±
With slight sympathetic glances at the upside down salamander that¡¯s on it¡¯s way to neverland, we continue to reel in Flubber Trouts.
Since Eminos told us about his fishing interests last night over dinner, I helped him with my otherworld knowledge by designing a simple fishing reel. A circular wood cylinder carved smoothly in a ¡®V¡¯ shape down the centre of the round side, the piece is put against the fishing pole Eminos often used with added function to allow it to spin by attaching a small knob on one of the circular sides. After fishing line is added to the wood cylinder called a reel, a fishing pole mimicking otherworldly fishing technology is created.
Eminos thought it was brilliant, his original goal at this stage of his life was to simply travel the world to different location and fish. That was his favourite hobby.
So today with the newly designed fishing pole also known as a rod, Eminos can be spotted gleefully fished while humming a tune along with us.
After lunch it seemed Daami started to get bored of fishing as she went and ran around in the forest area doing who knows what.
Milia ended up taking a break as well and started reading the earlier chapters of the new Wind Magic Manual that Eminos had given to us.
Meanwhile all this is happening, as usual I ended up still trying to complete our original objective, the activities received from the Adventurer¡¯s Association.
¡°As usual only I¡¯m ended up with doing most of the work.¡±
I complained while relaxing in the afternoon breeze.
~*~
That night we had completed the quota of catching over 50 Flubber Trouts with their tail taken as proof, the tail is believed to be used in medicine after it is dried and grinded down.
During our dinner for the final night together, we continued with simple discussions.
¡°Thank you again for hosting us during our Activity Request from the Adventurer¡¯s Association Eminos, as well as giving us the Magic Manual for Wind Magic.¡±
¡°Hohoho, don¡¯t worry about it, it almost feels like my great grandkids coming to visit me, I also am very satisfied with your ingenious design of the fishing pole, you know you could make a good sum of money if you sold that in the cities.¡±
¡°Perhaps in the future, right now I¡¯m stuck with these two on an adventure.¡±
¡°Hohoho, sounds like fun, but before you leave tomorrow I have more things to give you.¡±
Yeah I think it¡¯s less fun and more work for me though.
I thought as Eminos went and fetched three envelopes.
Right now we are just drinking tea while continuing with a chat.
¡°These are envelopes with different intended recipients, first this one labeled with ¡®M¡¯ is given to Marcos, it¡¯s just a simple family letter to tell him to make contact with his parents. Of course I will trouble you to persuade or remind him if he chooses not to or simply forgets. The second one marked with ¡®A.M¡¯ is intended for the Academy of Manifiesta, I knew one of the professors at the Academy a while back, he is of Beastmankind race, perhaps his even made his way to be head of a department now. He was a young man back in the day. If you find the man named Bickus at the Academy, hand him his letter, he will help you out during your stay and maybe as well as if you and your friends want to enroll in the Academy. Unfortunately I cannot help you with the other magic institute, Naturia Institute of Magic, my connections on this continent is unfortunately limited so let¡¯s hope Macos is there at the Academy of Manifiesta first. Finally this last letter labeled with ¡®A.A¡¯. Give this letter to the Adventurer¡¯s Association''s Head Manager of the Vekrox branch, this person is actually a good friend of mine, we often go fishing together. Take this to him and he should help you out in various cases, of course the help is limited, don¡¯t expect preferential treatment now young man, everyone must learn to work hard understood?¡±
¡°Yes of course.¡±
And maybe you should take down that note Daami,
¡°Did you hear that Daami? Everyone must work hard.¡±
¡°No problems here, I am one of the hardest working members of our team.¡±
¡°That¡¯s obviously a lie! You went off to play in the forest just yesterday afternoon!¡±
¡°That¡¯s¡ well everyone has roles they are good and those they are not, don¡¯t worry about it hehe, here Eminos let me take these envelopes from you, I¡¯ll hold onto them.¡±
¡°Oh no you don¡¯t.¡±
¡°Hey! First you complain about me not doing anything and now you¡¯re trying to take my job! Not fair!¡±
¡°I only want to hold onto them because I know you would lose them!¡±
¡°Would not!¡±
¡°Would so!¡±
And the back and forth continued for a while with Daami and I in a tug of war over the envelopes entrusted to us by Eminos.
If a stranger saw us they would depict this scene as something that would occur only in children¡¯s playgrounds where kids are fighting over a toy truck or something in the sand pits.
¡°Hohoho, they sure do get along, are they always like this Milia?¡±
¡°Um even with the short time I have joined them, I believe that is the case.¡±
¡°Hohoh, is that so, but I think we should stop them before this gets out of hand and the envelopes rip along with their contents.¡±
¡°Yes that would be a good idea.¡±
And so our tussle was stopped by Eminos and the envelopes are given to Milia instead so neither of us were given the task.
