《The adventures of a not-so suspicious individual》 Prologue - Volume I. Volume I. Prologue Empires rise and fall.. the world through it all journeys on. Perhaps a human''s curious nature to explore has become a double-edged sword. Experiencing exciting encounters on one hand and on the other, having to face perilous situations that they really were most certainly not prepared for.Stolen story; please report. Nevertheless, courageous young men continue to throw themselves head long into these sorts of situations¡ why? Well¡ for some.. profit¡ others fame.. some just seek a goal to strive for. There are those who merely wish for the simple life.. And others, who live on the battlefield, who fight for glory and honor. Then there are those who.. well¡ we don''t quite know exactly where they fit into all this.. where their burning passion comes from.. what drives them forward but these sorts of figures all leave their own traces in history.. each one unique in their own ways¡ however.. there was one such notable figure who seemed to stand above the rest... Now.. Let us begin to unravel a journey to you untold for a long time¡ a story for the ages¡ Chapter 1 Chapter 1 [Congratulations Mystic! You have discovered an unknown tablet.] [Would you like to take a closer look? At your own risk of course..] As a pursuer of truth,my zeal for greater knowledge overtakesmy usual cautious nature. I focus my mind.. as I seem to grasp a profound law... runes and strange symbols start to align... "Wisdom stat insufficient" jolts me awake from the profound state.I stare blankly for a moment before then of course start cursing and grumbling at the stupid tablet. Then with a flash of lightning and the pitter patter of rain, a black-hooded robed figure appears seemingly out of nowhere... Out of the corner of my eye, the intimidating figure stands silently behind me.. the rain continues to increase.. I start to sweat... neither of us move.. I bolster up my courage as I prepare to face this enemy. I slowly reach for a scroll from undermy robe but alas I amtoo late.. the figure moves with lightning speed, realising any hope of defeating this enemy must have been a joke. Maybe I just wasn''t cut out for this line of workI muse to myself. The figure is already uponme as I sense death approaching.. "Mast..er this is for.. you, I bel..ieve you dro..pped it" I blink,as I take a moment to recall that this is in fact my most trusted and only apprentice Jack. You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story. Jack while a quick-witted fellow, the cunning look in his eyes is quite disturbing at times. AsI amof course an upright and honest individual, having such company reflects poorly on me, but alas this world is too frightening to be bymyself. The black figure takes a knee trembling before me. I find that quite odd but don''t press the issue... just attributing it as one of his many odd quirks. Taking a look at the runic tablet in his out-stretched hands.. the glowing symbols seem to mock me.. a cold look emnates. Jack seems to tremble with greater intensity.. "The tablet is yours Jack, I have no use for such elementary knowledge" "Yes yes of..course ma..ster.. forgive me.." "...." Looking at him for a moment dumbfounded. I start to question if it is healthy forme to keep such a disciple around. Shaking my head to clear my thoughts. "Ahh my boy Jack, let''s us depart" The two figures slowly disappear into the forest. A while later, the sound of birds chirping could be heard once more as the forest returns to its peaceful state. To be Continued. Chapter 2 Chapter 2 The whistling of arrows can be heard accompanied by distant screams. The clanging of metal is deafening but what more, the pounding of my heart. Beneath the opening of my helmet I gaze around at the battlefield¡ broken sabers, spears and swords can be seen strewn across the battlefield¡ figures can be seen clashing with great intensity¡ red and blue banners flutter in the background¡ I start to question my sanity in all this¡ The armor weighs heavy¡sweat forms on my brow as blood seeps from the edges of my mouth. I attempt to disengage from the enemy before me, but with my body nearly reaching its limits let alone escaping i''m worried I might just trip over my own feet. As I go to parry the enemies sword I instead deflect a stray arrow¡ perhaps my years of sword practice paid off¡ of course you don''t kid yourself... with all the projectiles flying everywhere it was bound to happen. However now the soldier in front of you looks astonished¡ he seems to have forgotten to continue the motion of his swing.. or I would most certainly have been dead. If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation. An armored figure appears beside me and before the enemy can react he is cut down¡quite a frightening sight¡ I glance over.. a blue coat of arms¡ an ally. As I take a breath to calmmy nerves the surroundings seem to have quieten down as the enemies ranks part¡ a silver-armored man holding a long spear walks out. My eyes focus on the figure¡ "that man¡ he seems to be an expert¡" I mutter to myself. I decide its best to distance myself as far away as possible from such a foe I hear the armored figure next to me say "quite right, let''s take him together!"¡ the gaze of the spear-wielding man''s shifts towards me as the look in his eyes hardens. No doubt he has locked ontome and the armored figure. Just like that, I realise I won''t survive this battle. I start to consider whether this "comrade" is actually here to get me killed. While at first I seem to hold no strategic value, perhaps someone must have recognized my not-so impressive sword skills and wishes to cut me down, before a genius such as myself matures. Nodding my head in affirmation as if this is the only plausible solution. The spear expert seems to take the nod as an acceptance to duel. He approaches andI come to realization that there is no more time for idle thoughts... I will have to fight. I prepare myself¡ steeling my resolve..I manage to stand up a bit more confidently.I adjust my stance.. one of the many stances students learn from the War God Academy. "Okay Fang.. you can do this! Just like the instructors taught you¡ left foot forward¡ wait does it matter if I''m left handed¡" a spear pierces forward without warning¡ my eyes contract¡ it seemsI cannot recall anything I learnt from the academy however out of instinct I block with my shield.. a dull thud sounds as I lose my sense of gravity. The might of the blow has lifted me into the air... before I can even think a figure materialises in the air directly above me¡ "this can''t be good",I cry inwardly. I hastily raisemy sword. BOOM!.. a dust shockwave emanates outwards as a figure crashes into the ground¡At this moment, on a cliff not too far away¡ two dark-robed figures appear¡ To be Continued. Chapter 3 Chapter 3 The dust from the earlier impact seems to subside¡ the sound of war cries and clanging of metal can be heard once more¡ my visions blurs¡ I feel a tug as someone seems to be carryingme¡ the last question in my mind before I fall into unconsciousness, "Where am I?" *** "Where are we Jack?!""Mas..ter, we seem to ha..ve come.. across.. a battle¡field" Gazing over at Jack."Yes I can see that Jack, thank you for stating the obvious.""So..rr..y, I¡ will.. do bett..er next.. ti..me.." Jack mumbles. "Dammit Jack please stop stuttering, speak clearly" "Y..es.. For..give.. me¡" as Jack continues to stutter. Sighing, I gaze upon the chaos down below. Having just escaped the terrifying forest behind me,I recall the many beasts I encountered. To be honest I''m not sureif you could actually call them beasts¡ perhaps behemoths would be more appropriate. The fact that I am still alive has of course nothing to do withmy outstanding survival abilities neithermy combat strength but precisely because I made a smart decision in picking Jack as my apprentice. Jack seems to be a beast tamer of sorts. Though I don''t think he really looks the part however it is a fact that the beasts did not dare come near us. They also seemed to follow Jack''s commands. Jack later informed me that they are in fact magical beasts¡ taking a moment to process what Jack said¡ before realising magical beasts are a figment of one''s imagination.. the look inmy eyes deepen as I realise the implications behind this.. you question Jack''s physiological state. Jack watches on from a distance asI stand there seemingly deep in thoughtwhile I overlook the battlefield¡ "is Master about to finally demonstrates his full capabilities.. it seems like the battlefield before us could barely be called qualified for that¡" Jack eagerly looks on¡ This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. As I focus back on the situation at hand, the situation does not look all that optimistic. The forest looming behind me and the war raging on in front, left with little options I contemplate whether camping up on this cliff would be the safest solution.. the armies should not notice us.. we are but two simple travelers just trying to make our way in life¡ a bright light shoots into the sky¡ both armies proceed to advance in your direction¡ "dammit Jack what did you do now.." "¡.." *** A little while earlier Command tent A large topographic battle-map is laid out¡ with strategic chess pieces sprawled about¡ a sharp-looking figure can be seen maneuvering each piece with frightening speed. It is evident that this man''s strategic abilities are outstanding. Mountain ranges can be seen towards the east, rivers flow throughout the region¡ more prominently to the west a dense forest seems to stretch endlessly.. "General Kening, we have just received report that two figures have been sighted walking out of The Night Forest!" "What did you say, don''t just spout nonsense" "It is verified sir¡ in addition... well¡" "What is it.. just spit it out.." "Well ¡ they seem to be mystics.." A fist slams on the battle map scattering the chess pieces.. "Damn mystics.. they think they can come and go as they please, as if this is their backyard.. no¡ I will not allow it" The commander takes a moment to silently ponder, different scenarios appear in his mind before one is pushed to the forefront of his mind¡a cold smile surfaces on his face. "Send word to the oppositions camp, we will temporarily hold a truce. We request for their assistance in dealing with these mystics, in return we will give up part of this westward region to them¡" "Sir I think you should reconsider, mystics personalities are somewhat strange, I have heard¡" "You dare! What have you heard¡?" the scout awkwardly stands there not daring to utter a sound. A smug look appears on the commanders face "Send word¡ those mystics will not see the sun rise tomorrow¡" *** A man awakens.. ".. this is!?" a figure in dark robes lies in the stretcher beside him To be Continued. Chapter 4 Chapter 4 "Help!"... I gaze over.. Jack crashes to the floor. A menacing figure towers over him¡"Are you alright!?" someone cries¡ "I am quite alright Fang"¡ Fang looks relieved¡ "Phew that was a close one Jack¡ If you should have fallen off the stretcher like that again you could have received a very serious concussion. Not the most pleasant thing let me tell you" Fang seems to reminisce to himself¡ Jack nods eagerly¡ "I appreciate your advice Fang" Jack then proceeds to scribble in a notebook he got from who knows where. I don''t recall ever seeing Jack carrying that around before. The notebookis extremely thick, and looking at it some more I decide it would make a superb shield¡ however the book looks quite ominous.. the occasional eerie echo of laughter seems to be heard¡ "¡" I decide its best to have another one of those you-know-talks with Jack¡A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. As Jack continues to scribble, "Stop Master from falling out of his stretcher in the near future¡" you hear Jack mutter to himself¡ I look on wordlessly¡ then something peculiar catchesmy attention.. then like a bolt of lightningI come to a realization.. "Has Jack finally stopped stuttering?"¡ I ponder for awhile¡but then recalling I have more pressing issues at hand. I gaze back at the bowl inmy hand. Porridge¡ gluggy¡ and watery...I slowly swirl my spoon around¡" my stomach grumbles¡ carefully taking a scoop I slowly raise it to my mouth¡ someone nudges me¡ "¡..!!", I gaze at the porridge now on my pants¡a gloomy aura can be felt¡ asI amabout to erupt in rage.. calmness washes over me¡ "sigh" +1 Willpower. "Mast..er, I a..m veryy.. Sor..ry.." Jack stutters¡ "¡" +2 Willpower. To be Continued. Chapter 5 Chapter 5 "What if I am not really who you expect me to be?" "Perhaps I am just an ordinary fellow who just decided to explore this vast world.. also having grown up in a simple town, possibly knowing a couple of friends having names such as Regg, Jones, Lisa¡ mmm¡" areminiscent look can be seen in my eyes. "I might just carry these scrolls and wear a robe to look cool¡ whereas this magical staff.. I just picked it up on the side of the road one day." "Wha..t! Mast..er what do you.. mean..? Are.. You.. Ok..ay? Here¡ le..t me perform a magic¡ ritu..al, it will¡ resto..re you.. from.. this curse" Jack then starts marking the floor, dark-red lines criss-cross all around¡a chilling sensation piercesmy heart¡I can hear whispering¡obviously not coming from Jack..¡ "Haa.. Just joking my boy¡" I awkwardly chuckle¡ Jack looks up.. He gazes at me¡ one.. two minutes pass.. ...As I start to sweat¡ Jack then responds.. "I thought so.. You really know how.. to crack a joke ma..ster.." Ireplay the hypothetical situation inmy mind, contemplating the likelihood of Jack actually believing me. Other endings appear inmy mind¡Me dying obviously being one of them¡ having to flee is also another highly possible outcome... "hmmm.." as I muse to myself. Then again if he does believeme and he goes his own ways, will he really be alright?" "Who else would even take him in? Plus, I am pretty certain without me around, his physiological state may not get any better¡" "Attention!" A soldier interruptsmy train of thought. A scowl appears across my face¡ Jack looks on excitedly.. The soldier hardens his gaze as his hand reaches towards his waist where his sword lies.. Freaking out a bit I awkwardly smile.. I stand a bit straighter, in a military-like pose. The soldier nods and slightly sighs in relief.. Jack snickers¡ "At ease"I continue to stand sternly. "¡." The soldier looks atme weirdly¡The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement. "Well then, welcome ..uh.. your name..? " "You.. can call him, ''Master''. The world must bow.. before.."I quickly intervene.. "That is quite alright Jack¡" ¡ "You may call me ''A not-so suspicious individual''" The soldier pauses.. "¡. but your name.." .. "Before you say anymore, this name is quite convenient, and to be honest I don''t really have any other name.. You don''t want me to make one up for you?.. Well then.. Perhaps Leo? hmm.. maybe Ryrgor.."I roll the end ofmy tongue..rrrr... "no.. how about Phillip¡? oh wait... I know! Jack!" "Ye..s Mast..er?!" "¡uh..yes that is my disciples name¡" "I''ll stop you right there Sir, it is quite alright.. I will call you ..uh.. the name you said before.." "A not-so suspicious individual"I kindly supply. "Yes that''s the one¡ well as you have signed The Centurion Star Imperial Decree, we are quite at ease letting you be within our camp. It is a relief to know you are on our side ha ha.." "We couldn''t believe our luck really when you pledged loyalty¡ perhaps the Empires name is quite influential these days.." Iwonder if he is mocking me¡ "What offered?"..as I think to myself.. If I didn''t offer to serve I would have to face not one but two armies of nearly a million troops.. yeah right¡ It was practically a calamity for a poor fellow like me¡ perhaps they have mistaken me for someone else¡ wouldn''t be the first time¡ I was imprisoned once as an apple stealer though I obviously did not steal any apples... While I do like apples and had an apple in my hand at the time, I would never do such a thing¡" my mind wanders¡ "-he empire has a long history stretching thousand of years! If not for Emperor Han who unified the eastern continent how would we have reached such heights.. Ahem.. Sorry for getting carried away.." "Now I believe you have met Fang¡ he will lead you to our armory.. where you may choose armor and weapons befitting to a man of your caliber such as yourself.. and then there are some other formalities¡ and oh wait! let us not forget you are scheduled to head back to the Imperial City.. where you will meet the famed Hero''s..!" "I hear they were summoned to slay the nefarious Demon King. One swing of the Demon King''s sword and he can cleave mountains and upheave the oceans." "But I''m sure since we have a mighty figure such as yourself on our side, we have no need for the Hero''s.. Am I right..? Ha Ha.." He gives you a fist bump on your shoulder.. Ilook at the soldier stupefied.. "did he say ''cleaves mountains and upheaves oceans'', is that even possible..?! I believe this soldier must be either mentally insane¡or has taken the joke too far.." "Well I''ll be off.. we will discuss more later¡ I won''t take up any more of your time¡" the un-named soldier marches away asI contemplatemy choices¡ some time passes¡ soldiersgaze over... I continue to stand and mutter to myself¡ Jack faithfully stands by my side¡ and as for Fang.. well he is nowhere to be found¡ perhaps lost due to the vastness of the military camp.. or late¡ most likely the latter¡ To be Continued. Chapter 6 Chapter 6 "For the Empire!.." a soldier raises his sword high.. his muscles strain, sweat drips onto the rugged soil beneath him.. the glare of sun¡ the gleam of his blue armor. Squadrons upon squadrons line up before him in formation¡ the ground trembles.. flying creatures fly over head¡ and then, with the downward slash of his sword the armored convey start to move out, heading south. Scouts flicker in the forest nearby.. the legion continues forward through the wide green landscape. A blue shine can be seen¡ piercing eyes¡ a heavily scaled creature seems to move within the vast sea of soldiers¡ 50m long with a wingspan of at least 30m.. the wings overshadow the army.. the creature''s head seems to overlook the entire legion of troops. Fighting against such a creature would make even the most courageous warrior falter... however knowing that dragons are a figment of one''s imagination I take a closer look.. "ahh I see.." whatI believe to make out is a superb dragon-crafted carriage¡ such masterful craftmanship¡ even a sliver of a dragon''s aura seems to be captured. Only the most of noble figures may reside within there.. Either warriors who are the pillars of the Empire.. Or Ministers who are outstanding in their respective fields¡ either way I will most definitely not be allowed to step foot within there.. "Sigh" I munch on some berries I picked up while wandering around the outskirts of the legion¡ Jack seemed preoccupied scribbling into his notebook so thinking it would be best to leave him to it¡ Given the military discipline enforced I was slightly surprised that no one stopped me from venturing this far out¡ but hey I''m not going to point it out¡ I continue on enjoying the scenery. A figure flickers in the forest nearby¡ "ah.. just a scout.." walking for a few hours the sun starts to slowly descend.. I notice the legion has started to settle down for the night.. "hmm" I gaze up at the stars.. a melancholically look can be seen in my gaze.. a memory starts to emerge¡a wooden sword flashes down.. two young boys.. one attempts to imitate the other¡ a father''s piercing look¡ "bro-ther.. your so awe-some! teach me some more moves.." "Ha of course, you¡¯re my younger bro after all! Don''t worry I''ll become a legendary hero and teach you even more godly moves! Just watch me!" "mmh Yes!"¡ the memories fade¡ a dark look overshadows my eyes¡ the surroundings become quiet¡taking a deep breath.. "haa.. ¡." Ifigure it''s time to head back¡ the closer I get to the camp the more I start to feel uneasy¡ "huh.. That''s strange" I listen attentively.. "hu hu hu¡" cries can be heard in the distance¡ flames light up the night¡ clashing of steel rings out.. "should I take a look?...while I ponder my decisions my ears prick up¡ hearing something move in the forest behind me¡ a tingling sensation runs downmy spine¡I start to sweat¡ beforeI know itmy body starts moving on its own,I''m in full sprint. I glance behind¡ three dark figures are now sprinting at me¡"How did he know we were there?!" "Enough! Take him down!" one figure stops for a moment as he draws back his arm¡a rock hits my foot.. I stumble as the momentum causes me to lean sideways¡. "Whizz"¡ "BOOM!" looking up¡ trees as far asI can see are gone¡ the ground blasted apart.. "Is that guy even human!?"I cry inwardly. A javelin appears to be lodged in a distant boulder¡ it quivers with intensity. This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings. "What?!" the figure behind cries out. "Did you just see that¡?! Is that guy even human!?" Seemingly mimicking whatI just said. "Number 2 enough with the over-dramatics. Obviously this man is an expert, possibly even A-Class¡ luckily we''ve encountered him alone and also unarmed.."Catching their words renders me speechless¡ of courseI haven''t stopped running¡ my legs start to feel like jelly.. I stumble forward¡ an arrow whizzes by my shoulder. "Number 3 can you shoot properly.. seriously." "Not my fault Sir, did you see those reflexes!?" "Mmh your right this man is a monster.." Number 2 Affirms with a nod of his head.Tiredness washes over me.. my mind feels blurry¡then my feet hit nothing. "Wait what..!" I snap awake¡ "Oh..." I''m in free fall. *** Three figures appear at the top of the cliff¡ they look down.. "That guy is crazy?! Did you just see that? He just went "plop" and jumped off, and didn''t think twice about it. That¡¯s an expert for you!" "Dammit Number 2, when we get back to base I''m applying for leave.. I can''t deal with a chatterbox like you." "C''mon boss without me around, who would you have to talk to?" "No one, exactly how I like it." Number 3 continues to stare down to the bottom of the cliff. He squints his eyes. It is hard to make out the view clearly.. "Uh guys, he seems to be alive, he just dusted himself off and is now casually walking away.." "Like I said, That''s an expert for you." Number 2 boldly proclaims. "I wonder if such an expert is taking in disciples..?" Number 2 is about to say something else when a dark aura surrounds Number 1. Number 2''s eyes harden as his face becomes solemn. The three wordlessly watch the lone figure disappear into the distance¡ *** I walk andstumblemy way back to camp. Phew that was a close one. Lucky it wasn''t straight fall. I managed to tumble down on some relatively soft soil.. I am not sure on where I am exactly right now though. It''s best to find someone and ask for directions.Glancing around I notice a hill in the distance.. A suitable vantage point to scout the surroundings.. I slowly make my way up as I cautiously peer over¡ "ARGHHH¡ ROARRRR! Pu pu.. Twang.." Beasts of colossal heights rampage across the battlefield as the blue-armored legion try to hold their formation. The backline hold heavy hand-held ballistas which are fired in barrages at the beasts. Some bolts pierce through the beasts thick fur, while others are merely deflected¡Dark humanoid figures can also be seen on the battlefield. While these foes do not wear full-plated armor they do wear an assortment of other armor and weapons. Their steel-like muscles and pulsing veins are a terrifying display. Glowing yellow eyes gaze out from under their battered helmets. With no fixed formation that charge forward recklessly. A veteran soldier would scoff at such tactics, however their frightening strength proves that such tactics are meaningless. Noticing a few dark humanoid figures charge forward, the blue armored warriors brace themselves for impact.. however the dark figures pause for a moment.. their legs bulge as they launch themselves into the air over the soldiers.. they crash into the backlines rendering any formation by the blue-armored soldiers useless. Other dark-beings of a slightly skinner stature ride upon the colossal-sized beasts¡ both sides charge forward engaging in fierce close-combat. Arrows pierce across the battlefield in a disorderly fashion. Squadrons after squadrons fall. My eyes sharpen.. another blue squadron is wiped¡ clicking my tongue at the sight¡ Just when the situation looks dire. ROARRR!! A blue-scaled dragon appears.. the other beasts look like puppies in its eyes. The dragon leaps agilely at alarge ape-like creature. Its throat is ripped to shreds and with one swing of its dragon tail and the ape is sent flying back like an artillery shell. A shockwave emnates out. The blue-armored troops courageously lift up their swords.. "For the Empire!" I can''t help but do the same¡ "For the Empire!" I cry. Unfortunately I do not have a sword so I just fist bump towards the sky. "Dang that was cool.." my blood starts to boil¡ The dragon raises its head seemingly in sync with the army.. ROARRR.. a dense barrage of ice-fire covers the battlefield.. a few beasts are incinerated however you notice some more agile creatures manage to break through the defensive line¡ a fierce battles ensues. As I continue to watch, I happen to glance to the side... three figures appear to be running towards you.. it seemsmy previous shout caught their attention¡ "No.. Wait.. What is that..?" Wolves covered in a dark ominous glow with glowing yellow eyes chase behind the figures¡ of course inmy direction.. "Please no.. don''t come this way.." I mutter.. Neither the wolves nor the three figures payheed.. "Terrific.." I ofcourse start fleeing in the other direction¡ To be Continued. Chapter 7 Chapter 7 BOOM! Trees are shattered as the ground trembles... A few more flashes of lightning streak down.. Multiple craters are evidently visible. Two figures can seen facing each other. The wind continues to howl¡the rain pours down with great intensity¡ " "Aren''t you going to comment on that? Like hey that lightning was pretty close.. maybe we should move to a new location" Of course I don''t say that out loud given the severity of the situation. I ponder.. this figure appeared out of nowhere.. I thought to ask him directions but the hard look in his eyes caused me to rethink that idea. At present I''ve been standing here for awhile now.. my back is getting a bit sore. At this rate I might even catch a cold given the rain¡ my ears prick up as movement in the brush off to the side can be heard¡ "Number 3 is that you!? Thank God I ran into you! I got lost.. then there was this bear¡ dude I nearly died! A silence encompasses the two figures. He pauses and glances in your direction, his head swivels back and forth between the two of you... "Hey wait, what is this¡? was there a party going on that I was not invited to? Although Number 2 says this in a joking manner, I notice his stance has changed. A metal disc slips into his hands.. I assume a shuriken. "Careful Number 2, I feel a terrifying presence coming from.." "Awhooo!" A monstrous-sized figure can be seen emerging from the forest.. snow white fur¡ with a pair of emerald eyes that seem to shine with intelligence. The creature ruffles its fur as I start to feel some sort of intangible force bear down. No one moves, neither you nor the two other figures. A low growl sounds from the creature. "Number 3 quick quick think of something.. your good at escaping these sort of situations right?.." Number 3 looks on solemnly.. Taking a closer look at the creature¡ "mmmh yep definitely a King among wolves.. the possibility of escaping this sort of situation is like the time when I tried to escape from that apple merchant.. caught with an apple in hand¡" I chuckle to myself. Number 2 looks over incredulously¡ "Admirable, he can still laugh in such a situation." "Please focus Number 2.. even the slightest variable could lead to our demise. This area seems to be the creature''s territory so as long as we just show we have no intention of intruding we should be okay" Number 3 kindly supplies to Number 2. "Grumble¡grumble" my stomach makes itself known. "Hmm can''t be helped.." I carefully take out a chicken drumstick from underneath my robe.. I picked it up this morning before setting off. My hands fumble.. the drumstick falls to the ground... "¡" The wolf gazes over coldly.. "Nooo my chicken drumstick!.." I cry inwardly. The wolf takes a sniff before it slowly strides over¡ I watch in slow motion as the creature takes a bite.. "awhoo.." feeling a nudge.. the creature stands slightly in front of me. It appears the wolf is signaling for me to leave. Slightly bewildered but nonetheless I slowly start to walk away.. If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it. "Incredible, he is a beast tamer too!" However the two figures surprisingly make no attempt to stop you from leaving. The wolf takes a step forward towards the two dark figures.. "Oh hey hey¡ we were just leaving Mr. Wolf. Isn''t that right Number 3? Ha ha.." The wolf takes another step.. at this point I have made my way quite far from the area.. Dark tall trees surround me. "Awhooo!" can be heard in the distance followed by the sounds of fighting¡ As I wander through the forest trying to get a sense of direction a breeze ruffles my robes... snow covers the grass as the temperature drops. Stars glitter in the night sky as I vaguely make out a cave in the distance. "The question is.. is that cave safe..?.. Probably not.." I muse. A flash of lightning streaks across the sky.. the rain continues to pour down.. "Screw it.. " I venture in.. *** Some time passes.. a trembling figure can be seen next to a small fire within the cave.. a creature approaches, it''s snout twitches as its left paw stops in mid motion. It gazes slightly to the side.. sniff.. sniff.. I awake.. from what I can tell it is still night, although I''m not entirely sure since I am in a cave¡ I hear a shuffle in the distance¡glancing over.. I make out what looks to be a small wolf pup excitedly searching throughmy knapsack bag which I had carelessly place to the side. The pup seems to be chewing on some dried meat.. my last dried meat¡ as I am about to complain¡ the pup gazes up at me, those cute cuddly eyes softens my heart. My legs feel a bit stiff from laying on the ice cold floor. I move slightly to sit more comfortably.. the pup gets a fright, it cautiously looks over at me.. I shrug.. the pup looks at the now empty knapsack bag before approaching¡ "sniff.. sniff" it pauses for a moment before surprisingly nuzzling down beside me. It seems to have taken me for its mother.. or at least not an enemy. Perhaps a trace of the mother''s aura was left on me from earlier..? The pup looks up at me into my eyes¡ I feel a sense of loneliness.. the pup closes it''s eyes as it goes to sleep. I take a closer look at the wolf.. before wondering whether this creature is actually a wolf.. long whiskers.. quite sharp ears while also having two green stripes streaking through its mane¡ the mother wolf definitely did not have the green stripes.. to be honest what kind of animal this is I''m not quite sure. If Jack was here, he would know, after all he is a beast tamer.. At least I think so.. I hope so because I have heard beast-tamers are quite reputable and honorable figures. Having such a person by my side would reflect well on me also. *** The night passes peacefully.. the rain subsides.. the chirping of birds can be heard once more. As sunlight starts to peak through the foliage."Awh-oo.. Aw..hooo¡" sniff¡ sniff¡ I''m startled awake. The monstrous-sized wolf from last night trudges into the cave¡ wounds can be seen all over¡ jagged pieces of metal also lie lodge within its body¡ bloods drips down¡ the wolf collapses to the ground. The little pup tumbles back and forth as it nuzzles its mother¡ my heart pangs with guilt¡ I did leave it there after all... The wolf seems surprised to see me but soon gestures towards the pup.. The mother wolf seems to be on its last breath¡ the pup looks back and forth between you two.. Its squeaky-like barks seem caught in its throat. I once more feel an intangible force but not of hostile intent¡ I seem to ''feel'' what the mother wolf is conveying¡ I slowly shake my head. The pup looks up at me¡ "Don''t let those cute eyes fool you" I mutter to myself. Steeling my heart I proceed to walk away¡ "awhooo!" a small figure attempts to follow after me¡ I quicken my pace.. my mind grows hazy.. a memory starts to emerge.. monstrous fiends can be seen lying across the battlefield¡ two figures face one another¡ gazing over at the figure before you¡ my fist clenches before slowly releasing¡ I slowly walk away¡ "Hey bro.. don''t go.. we can go back to how things were before.." your older brother limps after me.. "You¡ and I¡ both know¡ that is not possible.." I silently mutter to myself¡ "bro¡?" the memory fades.. I pause my steps before gazing back at the pup.. To be Continued. Chapter 8 Chapter 8 A figure can be seen panting while also hurriedly moving along a road.. Panic is written all over his face.. the figure seems to be in-between a half walk and half jog.. While it seems funny at first there seems to be some sort of tempo to it¡ A hooded figure watches from the distant forest. Hidden away behind the dense foliage and thick trees... the figure is almost completely invisible. The hooded figure''s eyes sharpen.. "That is the empire''s insignia.. is this perhaps a new footwork the military has implemented?.. It definitely is.. different." he mutters to himself. "Hmm wait!.. Aren''t these sort of situations those so-called chance encounters..!? Yes yes.. in time likes these it is best to befriend such people.. then I too can learn such exquisite footwork.. It may save my life one day." The soldier approaches the figure¡ "Ohh mannn I am soooo late." My footsteps are hurried and panicky. It reminds me of my days at the War God Academy.. "ahh yes I was late to class many times then wasn''t I? But here I am, still alive and kicking so Fang there is nothing to worry about." I tell myself. "I''m sure my superiors are really kind-hearted fellows¡" "Hmm actually in theory I am already ''late'' so being more late doesn''t really change anything. Therefore whether I get there earlier really doesn''t matter now then does it.." my footsteps slow¡ the birds chirp¡ sunlight cascades down¡ "Mmh yes lets just relax a bit, chill and you know enjoy the walk.." Taking a deep breath.. "Ahhh such a nice breeze.." A hand grabs my shoulder. "..!!" "Yeah nah¡I''m definitely screwed" I think to myself. Did you know this story is from Royal Road? Read the official version for free and support the author. I try to smile but my muscles cramp.. a wicked smile appears across my face instead. In the most stable voice I can muster.."um.. Yes what can I do for you?" The green-hooded figure lifts his hand slightly and takes a half a step back.. he gives a laugh.. "Don''t mind me.. Uhh I was just scouting around.. It might be dangerous up ahead.. Be careful.." The scout walks away.. "What is wrong with you¡ you told the guy to be careful.. you yourself should be careful.. my heart nearly gave out¡"the soldier mutters to himself. I continue on in the direction the convoy was heading in. Some time passes before I vaguely make out banners fluttering in the distance¡ "Okay there''s the empire''s camp¡ don''t get nervous¡ I''m not late, I belong here" I repeat to myself. I keep my head down as I casually walk into the camp. Myeyes trail the ground asI walk¡ "Hmmm¡?"A broken sword can be seen lying on the ground.. "An empire sword.. That''s strange" I look up before noticing that the camp seems quite busy.. other weapons and armor fragments are strewn about¡ "Ahhh Ahuuu.." cries of pain can be heard in the distance¡ then for the first time I notice the camp is in a complete mess.. Soldiers on stretchers can be seen everywhere and are being rushed into medical tents.. I think to ask someone what is going on but then realising that such a question would imply that I was not here and therefore late. My mind wrestles with the problem as I become unsure of what to do.. so I just stand there awkwardly. A tall dark-robed figure approaches.. To be continued¡ Chapter 9 Chapter 9 "What is life? More specifically what is my life? Would my life be considered interesting? Perhaps having a friend might help? Can I even make friends? People are quite scary nowadays.. Then again what determines what is interesting from boring? Is there such a thing as fate? Do I even rationally make my own choices or am I bound upon a self-destined path... hmmm¡ is a goal the same as a purpose? What if really I hit my head awhile back and lay in a coma where everything in my life right now is just a figment of my imagination.. a bit dark I admit.. hmm.. lets think of a new question¡ "If I was born as animal which one would it be? Hmmm.. perhaps a bear, no no.. maybe a bird? Then again my luck was never good so I''d probably turn out to be a crab or something" "Does pineapple go on pizza?" I have many questions but few answers. But that is okay... There are many people in this world. Surely someone will have the answers I seek! I sit crossed legged attempting to seriously ponder some more things¡ "Awhooo.." a wolf-pup runs circles around me.. It''s been about a week since I''ve been lost..I am still lost.. I gaze over at the pup.. I have come to conclusion that the pup is male, I hope so in any case because I have already named him Leo.I wasnever good with picking names.. and as for whether the name I picked is a suitable one for the wolf I do not know.. However the pup has taken a liking to the name. I think that when I see Jack he will be able to confirm that I indeed have a spectacular sense for names, given his capabilities as a beast tamer."Okay let''s go.. This way!" I pick a random direction and start walking.. the wolf-pup trudges along behind me¡ Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Multiple archer towers can be seen strewn across wall. Monstrous sized ballista''sare mounted upon the wall. The wall is nearly 10m thick with 3 gates one behind the other at the entrance point. City guards solemnly watch over those entering the city, to and fro.An intimidating sight to behold¡ but lucky for me, I am a honest fellow¡ I make my way over to the entrance and with not a pause in my stride I confidently walk up to the most intimidating city guard there. "Hello, you can call me a not-so suspicious individual" I extend my hand¡ he does not do the same. Casually lowering my hand.. "Ahem.. I was supposed to arrive with a convoy but there was this battle and I got lost but here I am." You make gestures with your hands as you describe the battle. "I''m lucky to have made it here alive, it took me nearly 2 weeks to arrive here.." The soldier''s gazes at me coldly "A battle you say..? Sir would you consider yourself a dangerous individual?" "Huh.. no?.. While it is true that I find myself in many very dangerous situations I am definitely not dangerous, my apprentice Jack can affirm to that. Have you seen him by any chance? He is quite tall and wears black robe, ooh and he is a beast tamer!" "I see.. Another suspicious individual" the soldier mutters to himself as he writes on a piece of paper. He gesture to a fellow soldier, "Take this and keep a watch out for this one.. and report to me when you see him" "Yes Sir." The soldier salutes and walks away. The city guard soldier gives you a glance.. "I know the convoy you speak of but you say it took you 2 weeks to travel where the trip should have only taken 2 days¡? Did you perhaps get an itch to do some banditry? It''s very common nowadays.." a cold glints appears in the soldiers eye. He gazes at me intently¡ "Woo Wooolf" "¡." "Sir.. would you like to explain the sound coming from underneath your robe?" "Um.. Is that an optional question?" He gaze turns solemn¡ My robes ruffles as a wolf pup''s head pops out. The pup''s cute cuddly eyes bear down upon the Soldier. The soldiers hard gaze softens. "Ahem.. Well Sir while there are many reasons to detain you and countless more to imprison you.. you seem to be a good-natured fellow since you are taking care of this pup. Therefore you may proceed into the city.. and .. ahh make sure to drop by sometime¡ I have some snacks I''m sure the pup would like.. My name is Henry by the way." Jack is jolted awake while a cold sweat can be felt running down his back. Fang sits across from the campfire... the fire burns low... he glances over at Jack.. "Couldn''t sleep Jack ah? Don''t worry, that makes two of us" Fang turns back towards the fire. The dark forest surrounds them as a small bonfire burns. A gloomy look overshadows Jacks face.. "Well since we both can''t sleep, you may as well come sit beside the fire here and refocus your mind." Fang gestures towards the little campfire.. as he throws in some more kindling.. unfortunately the branches are damp¡ the fire starts to die down¡ "Whooshh, the fire blazes back into life. While you may be a genius in swordsmanship, magic has far heavier restrictions. Only geniuses amongst geniuses can even touch the borders of magi-c.. Fang raises his arm seemingly mimicking Jack and "Whoosh" the campfire burns even brighter. Jack looks on wordlessly.. "as I was saying you need to study for countless years with magicians teaching you step by step¡" Jack pauses for a moment¡ "Hey Wait.. you!..." Fang grins from ear to ear. Jack looks at Fang in disbelief.. before the look in Jack''s eyes sharpens "Should I eliminate Fang..? Such a monster¡ we cannot have any variables that may threaten Master.." Jack ponders to himself. Fang seemingly oblivious to this continues to make the flames burn brighter and brighter.. Before either of them realize it, the trees around them catch fire. "Dude¡ stop Fang.. terrific.. look at the mess you have made¡" Jack quickly gets up and as he is about to quell the fire he realizes that the fire has expanded too fast too quickly¡ "We will not be able to put out this fire.." A breeze rustles the figures robe as the wind blows back the hood. A young man''s face can be seen¡ perhaps in his early twenties.. dark brown hair of medium length¡ green piercing eyes¡ a slight scar next to his right eyebrow.. A wolf-pup''s head pops out from underneath the man''s robe shocking nearby pedestrians. The pup curiously looks around as it''s tongue hangs out. A cold wind blows by.. "Yelp.." the pup snuzzles back undertherobe. A young girl nearby happens to glance over at this time.. she seems to be out enjoying herself. "Aww so cute!" she excitedly walks over. "Hi, my na..me is Sara, ca..n I say Hi to the pu..p?" the girl stammers. The man notices she has light brown hair with a few braids throughout her hair giving her quite an elegant look. The pup looks on with wide eyes as it attempts to hide itself further within the man''s robe. The girl looks slightly disappointed¡ "Sigh" I gesture for the pup to say hello.. the pup looks at me with suspicious eyes. I of course nod in a reassuring manner. The girl outstretches her hand before lightly picking the pup up.. She hugs the pup tightly¡ perhaps too tightly¡ the pup seems to struggle to breathe.. I watch the pups misfortune as a grin appears acrossmy face. "Awoo wollffff" the pup attempts to escape the girls arms.. but does not succeed. "M''Lady, I have just arrived and am trying to locate the Inner Conclave, would you happen to know where this place is? Her eyes widen slightly as she glances over "ah? you called me M''Lady.." a blush appears across her face. "I.. um.. can gui..de you there um..- sorry what was your name? "You may call me a not-so su-.." I hesitate.. looking at her innocent eyes¡ "mmhh call.. me.. Kyle" a dark glow flashes inmy eyes for a moment.. "Okay! Let go!" "Wolfff!" she gently tugs onmy sleeve as she leadsme through the city.Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site. She seems quite passionate and so¡ with her suggestion I somewhat reluctantly agree to let her make some changes tomy robe in the near future. WhileI think that my robe is perfectly fine.. apparently it gives off an ominous aura.. I don''t really agree but decide to let it go. As I head deeper into the city I now realise how incredibly vast the Imperial Capital is.. It is incorrect to call it a city.. but more like it''s own world.. lakes and meadows can be seen within¡ over arching bridges criss-cross throughout the city. The further one goes towards the inner conclave, mountains can be seen.. should the outer wall ever be breached these mountains would act as a impenetrable defensive line. Temples, fortresses, and other defenses can be seen constructed upon these mountains.. The mist and snow makes the arrow towers almost invisible. Had Sara not pointed it out, I would have failed to notice them.. It takesus the majority of the day butwe finally draw near to the entrance of the Inner zone.. the mountains seem to resemble a beehive¡ countless cave entrances can be seen as soldiers patrol¡ they hold torches at each entry point. The cold wind blows as an intimidating aura emanates from the area¡I hesistate before gazingback at the directionwe came in but the snow storm clouds my vision¡ "Hmmm¡ I don''t think this is the right place I was supposed to go¡ Sara lets head back the way we came¡" Before she can respond a loud horn is blown.. A flurry of activity can be seen amongst the mountain ranges¡ soldiers start to form up¡ blazing bonfires light up at each sentry point. Then you see a heavily armored squadron charge towardsour direction.. I barely make them out as their movements form afterimages¡my eyes widen.. "Terrific¡" I seem to recognize the squadron¡""Is this one of those death squads!?" I mutter to myself.. Legend has it that the Emperor trained them through the harshest of training.. they would fight monstrous creatures with their bare hands¡ they would not even fear death. Among those... there were elites that were sent on suicide missions.. these missions were so terrifying that the soldiers were not expected to survive¡ of course there were those that did in fact survive! These legendary warriors were bestowed a set of enchanted gold armor personally by the emperor himself as a symbol of their strength. I do indeed notice that the squadron approaching you all wear gold armor...my mind races asI assess my limited options... The snow is blowing hard.. ifI flee into the snowstorm perhaps Ican escape.. "That could totally work.. but¡"I glance over at the young girl beside me.. "No.. I can''t run.. Dam how do I always seem to get myself into these sort of situations.. "Sigh" the wolf pup bounds through the snow around us, seemingly unaware of the imminent crisis. The pup flounders in the snow¡ "Woolfff" the pup dives into the snow beside me before then jumping out again. I can''t help but laugh at the sight... seemingly unfazed by the approaching soldiers.. +1 Charm.. the young girl gazes in awe. "Attention!" The tallest and mightiest of the warriors approaches. The commander kneels before us in reverence. "We have been expecting you." To be continued. "Sigh" "It''s all that fellow''s fault, that guy who calls himself ''a not-so suspicious individual''... who is he trying to fool!? He is most certainly suspicious. "I''m serious dude¡ you heard about the war in the north right?" "Sure, but the Empire is always fighting wars¡ over the most insignificant stuff too¡ last time it was because there was an apple stealer on the loose¡ "No no no, this time it''s different, it is terrifying in fact.. the guardian dragon Alazar perished!" "¡!" "mmmh that is quite dire" the peasant nods to himself¡ "Well I''ll be off.. the wife is cooking a delicious curry tonight!" "Are you even listening dude!?" "Sure I am Timothy.. when you can stop making stuff up and then we can chat seriously." Timothy looks on expressionlessly, he opens his mouth to say something before closing it again. "Then have you at least heard of the recent forest fire..?" The peasant looks at Timothy in surprise.. "Of course I have Timothy, when it''s stuff that is actually happening then sure." A dark look overshadows the peasants face¡ "In all seriousness that was quite a disaster¡ whether it was instigated by someone or by some creature nobody knows¡ however neither of those possibilities are comforting. Luckily we have divine favor¡ a snow storm abruptly appeared which resolved the crisis.. However, unfortunately we don''t have such luck for our ocean voyages" the peasant sighs. If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. "The empire''s warships have attempted to cross the southern ocean countless of times but with those colossal-sized sea creatures roaming about it seems any attempt is futile" the peasant shakes his head. "What lies beyond the ocean can be anyone''s guess.. another civilization perhaps? Or maybe just endless ocean¡" Timothy glances around¡ farmers and peasants pass by as they head to the Imperial City. "What about to the east.... have you heard the rumors?" Timothy whispers to his companion. "Timothy speak up, what rumors do you speak of?" his friend says in a slightly too loud voice.. "¡." People glance over curiously¡ Timothy gazes at his companion speechlessly before sighing.. "I heard that the Kharazal Tribes are showing strange movements.." "Another war perhaps?" his companion ponders. "It doesn''t seem like it.. something else¡ a dark cloud seems to obscuremy vision these days.." "Haa when did you become a sage..?" the peasant chuckles¡ "A sage..? definitely not.. I''m just connecting the dots and using common sense." His companion looks at Timothy dubiously.. "If you say so.. but in any case, for peasants such as us there''s no point in thinking too hard¡ I''m sure these summoned ones I recently heard about can figure things out.. right?" Timothy gazes solemnly at his companion before glancing up at the sky.. "To put our trust in outsiders.. even I know that¡ is a foolish choice.." Timothy mutters to himself. End of Volume I. Prologue - Volume II. Volume II. Prologue A golden-cloaked figure can be seen sitting at a desk within an olden style study room¡ a candlewick burns¡ a cold wind blows as the flame wavers¡ the night is quiet. The man''s gaze becomes hazy¡ "paradise¡" a murmur sounds out¡ fragmented memories appear in his mind¡ "a secret for only the worthy, now I pass this down to you Young Prince¡" Beyond the Southern Ocean lies what the Emperor has only been told as ''Paradise''. A distant continent home to many clans¡ a long time ago Paradise was facing a calamity¡ fiends of monstrous strength were invading their land¡ no clan could stop them. These clans have been at war against each other since the beginning of time¡ there was no desire to band together even under the threat of extinction. However at that time, the mightiest of the ancients stepped forward¡ his power was supreme and no clan dared to defy him. And so a temporary alliance was established, known as The Empire. Strategies and war plans emerged but little progress was made.. With every passing day resources, territories and defense lines were lost. With little hope in sight, the wheels of fate started to turn.. a young clansmen emerged.. walking through the hall.. he passed by the ancient warriors that gazed coldly at him¡ yet a fire burnedwithin the youth''s heart as a fiery look can be seen in his gaze. "If no one else will stand.." the young man kneeling before ''The King'' "..then the Ashara Clan will!" Unauthorized content usage: if you discover this narrative on Amazon, report the violation. And so the young man led his clan as Vanguard while the other clans followed behind¡ a terrifying battle ensued¡ the earth opened up¡ lakes wiped out¡ mountains shattered¡ after five days both sides had suffered heavy casualties. The result was that the monstrous fiends were forced to flee¡ It seemed that they retreated through the ocean on mighty sea creatures.. ancient warriors gathered upon a cliff as they gazed solemnly at the endless ocean. "It does not end here.." the young man''s murmur sounded out. The other men gaze over at him.. a weird glint can be seen in their eyes¡ Some time passed while the clans attempted to recuperate their losses.. peace reigned¡ at least for a time¡ One clan however, was ''chosen'' to pursue this calamity¡ and so they faithfully carried out their duty, "For the Empire" one might say. Remnants of the fiendish aura was traced over the ocean¡ albeit with difficulty but the ancients were unfathomably strong and had many methods. After months of travel, land was finally sighted and soon after a frontier was established. This clan in particular was the mightiest of the beast tamers¡ coming together they placed down great sea beasts into the ocean behind them forming an impenetrable defense should the calamity ever wish to invadetheir homeland again. Interestingly since the clan having arrived on the continent... all was quiet. No enemies were to be found. It seemed that the calamity had retreated in haste¡ scouts were sent out but it is still unknown where the enemy went¡. Time passed and without the clan realizing it those beasts they placed as a safeguard had grown too strong¡ they eventually outlived the mightiest of the clan''s beast tamers and continued to multiply in great number. A fatal miscalculation¡ Thousands of years have passed since then¡. Chapter 14 Chapter 14 "Listen here young one, back in my day¡ I was a master swordsman! I would fight creatures you cannot even imagine.. I was always the first to dive headfirst into those suicide zones.. but now?.. I am just a retired adventurer".. sigh.. "I pluck a few strings¡ sing a few songs.. and people see me as an honourable bard." Two cloaked figures sit before the bard¡ a terrifying aura emanates from them. The bard unfazed by this continues on¡ "How about I play you two a song?" Without waiting for either of them to agree or not, he starts to play a tune.." Fang winces at the sound.. "Perhaps a different song?" Fang suggests.. "Yes exactly right Fang! Perhaps a more darker song.." Jack cautiously asks.. The bard glances at him dubiously.. "Not too sure what you mean by that.. I prefer to play songs that are pleasant to hear. A song that stirs a person''s heart and soul.. a sound not of this world¡ you understand? Jack nods sagely "I know exactly what you mean.. "a song that penetrates the soul.. something to consider more" Jack scribbles into his notebook. Fang gazes over at the ominous book before turning back to the bard as he tries to persuade him to attempt a different song. Passengers glance over at the odd trio before distancing themselves. *** Henry gazes intently at the caravans heading towards the entrance. "Keep a close watch men! No one shall enter this gate without an inspection." The city guards stand solemnly behind the commander as they inspect the travellers making their way into the capital. Caravans one after another are rigorously checked. Some merchants cry in outrage but nothing stops the zeal of these city guard soldiers in completing their duty. Just as the sun rises to its highest point, and the light shines through the snowy winds, a glimmer in the distance catches Henry''s eye as a hazy image of a caravan slowly emerges.. faint music can be heard playing. The caravan draws closer as the music becomes more apparent. "It seems to be coming from the back of the caravan" Henry mutters. Henry gazes over coldly as he sees two cloaked figures doing some sort of weird dance moves.. other bards glance over enviously before feeling compelled to join in.. they too start to play along with great fervor. A short period of time passes as many bards have now excitedly joined in. Fang eagerly encourages the bard in front of him¡ the bard follows suit, a crescendo emerges as each note reaches higher than the last¡ the tempo of the beat reaches a new level.. "It''s a rave!" Fang cries.. people''s head bob up and down to the beat¡ peasants raise their arms high.. the city guards gaze over dubiously before they too can''t help but also start to groove¡ "partyyyy" a peasant cries. Henry gazes on speechlessly, his gaze focuses on the two cloaked figures, of course the two main culprits.. "As expected suspicious individuals travel in duos." Henry declares. The bards continue to pluck their strings with greater intensity. Before Henry can stop the commotion, it starts to get out of control. A few hooded figures within the crowd have taken this as the signal they had been waiting for.. "Target Number 72¡ finally we have found him. That sage always seems to allude our pursuits¡ but not this time¡" A horn is blown.. Bvhooooom! "Nice support!..." Fang gives a thumbs up¡ the assassin looks over at Fang weirdly before then ignoring him. However the horn seems to have cranked the music to a whole new level¡ the bards continue to play with an even greater zeal. Love this story? They dart left and right as city guards are taken down. "Assassins!" A city guard cries before a crossbow bolt whistles¡ the bolt pierces the guard''s knee.. "Ahh an arrow to the knee!" "I''ve always wanted to say that.." he mutters to himself. From the City Wall ballista-like bolts that glow with a mysterious light are shot at the assassins¡ however the cloaked figures images distort as their movements become illusory. The bolts miss their targets as the snowy ground is blown apart¡ Whoosh! Grappling hooks clamp down onto the wall as the assassins provide cover for their companions who make their way to the target. The assassins move with superhuman speed as they infiltrate different sections of the wall. Fighting can be heard within as the structure trembles. Even with the intruders efforts they struggle to stay on the offensive for long. "The defenses are too tight.." the assassin at the back mutters. "I did not expect this.. Unfortunate.." "If The Dark Three were here¡" sigh.. "I''m always stuck with rookies.." BOOM! Crash¡ parts of the city wall starts to crumble¡ in the midst of all this the bards continue to play as two cloaked individuals seem to groove their way into the Capital. Unfortunately the peasants following behind them are not so lucky, they are taken down as the city guards swarm them.. *** Jack analyses the city before turning to Fang as he attempts to discuss their next move¡ however he abruptly stops.. seemingly speechless. "What''s that on your shoulder Fang?" "Huh.." Fang glances over at his shoulder.. there lies a baby crab as it continues to waves its claws to beat of the bard. "I picked him up some time ago.." Fang gives the crab a nudge¡ the crab glares menacingly at Fang¡ Jack continues to inspect the crab.. He is quite sure crabs can''t survive for this long out of water.. "Is this perhaps a magical crab of some sort.." Jack mutters to himself. "Hmmm.. I too must find a suitable pet!" Jack rushes into the nearest beast tamer shop¡ Fang awkwardly stands there for awhile.. "I''ll just wait here Jack, don''t worry about me.." he mumbles to himself. Fang glances around lazily before eyeing a suitable spot to relax¡ he wanders over to lay down¡ his gaze drifts to the skies.. "Ahh I miss the days in the academy¡ life feels a bit hectic¡" Fang yawns¡ "I wonder how Hem and Lisa are doing... mmh I forgot to ask where they were even posted to.. " "Hem was incredibly skilled with the bow so I''m sure he''s doing okay.. Ahh those joyous times with Hem.. with him shooting arrows and I writing the love letters attached to those arrows¡ sure it scared the girls initially but dam I bet no one else thought of such a splendid idea¡" Fang chuckles to himself. "As for Lisa.. mhmm.. she was always so quiet.. sometime I forgot she was even there¡ but I still miss her, she was always there to get us both out of trouble¡ ha.. ha.." After what seems like half a day.. Jack gloomily walks out of the shop.. "Ah Jack how did it go?" Jack wordlessly looks at Fang before gesturing behind himself. Fang glances over¡ a little duck waddles along seemingly lost.. Fang dubiously looks back at Jack.. "So.. where''s your pet..?" the duck slowly approaches and seems to recognize Jack.. it quickly tumbles over itself before reaching Jack.. it affectionately rubs its head against Jack. Fang''s eyes widen slightly as he glances again at the little duckling. "Ahh Jack my boy.. that duck isn''t your pet right..?" Fang stifles a laugh. Jack grunts gloomily. "Ahaha dudddeee.." Fang continues to laugh.. Jack''s gaze darkens.. "Okay okay I''m sorry" Fang looks at the duck with a righteous zeal. Fang takes a knee. "Now to our newest companion, do you pledge loyalty to our cause." The duck ruffles it fur as it seemingly nods. "Great.. You will be a great asset, we will need your strength. Now we must head out in search for our Leader.. Are you ready Little Yellow?" "Oi! You cannot name my pet.. I haven''t even named him myself yet. He will not be called Little Yellow!" The duck looks at Fang for a moment before it seems to quack in approval of the name ''Little Yellow.'' Jack seems torn. "The duck isn''t even the colour yellow¡" Jack gloomily mutters to himself. "Quack quack" the duck ventures forward as Fang and Jack follow in toe. A little crab also menacingly chases after Fang. To be continued. Chapter 15 Chapter 15 "Prisoner 43" silently bearing the name I self-assigned to myself. Golden cloaked figures surround me.. sentries stand solemnly at high vantage points¡ troopers scout the surroundings¡ trying to escape this encirclement is nigh impossible. Yet.. I believe myself to be a master of getting myself out of these sort of situations. I ease the expression on my face as I attempt to curry favor with the troopers. Although I am a prisoner, the troopers are quite friendly. They chuckle and tell jokes about how they''ve slain dragons and colossal sized hydras.. I don''t believe them of course but the way they so vividly describe the battles captures my attention. It''s as if they actually battled these creatures... the commander even points out a scar he received from fighting such a creature.. "You don''t need to go that far.." I mutter inwardly but still give him a fist bump. They seem quite enthusiastic as they each tell their own stories.. I accept their stories seemingly unfazed, after all its just a figment of their imagination. A trace of uneasiness can be seen in the troopers eyes¡ "I swear my battle with the Scaled Wyvern would have surprised him.. maybe he has already slain one himself?" a trooper mutters. "Impossible¡ they travel in packs¡ its incredibly rare to encounter a wyvern alone¡ unless¡ did he perhaps slay a whole pack of them!?" the trooper continues to ramble on. This narrative has been purloined without the author''s approval. Report any appearances on Amazon. You notice Sara looking around curiously at the troopers.. she seems to be enjoying herself¡ "Ahh she hasn''t realised the seriousness of the situation¡ ignorance is bliss sometimes.. should I kindly inform her?..... I''ll let it be¡" The escort trudges on as we finally enter into the mountain itself¡ the atmosphere darkens.. caves seems to connect and criss cross¡ pathways stretch endlessly¡ glancing around I diligently memorize the route we have taken. "Fools" scoffing lightly I nod to myself as I look forward to the day I will escape. "These caves have no patterns whatsoever, and with the magicians shifting the pathways randomly it makes it impossible to navigate." A trooper silently admires. While my attention is focused I fail to notice the commander holding some sort of compass. The compass glows with some sort of mysterious energy and seems to guide the escort forward. "Wooolf wolff" the pup''s head pops out from under my robe... the pup gazes into the darkness¡ it''s noses twitches.. "You don''t like this underground environment either huh.. yeah that makes two of us buddy." Giving the pup a pat on the head, the pup looks up at me for a moment, before then nestling back into my robe. After a couple of hours, a light starts to shine in the distance¡ "Here we are men! Just ahead is the Inner Conclave! Let us go meet the Emperor shall we" "Yes Sir!" the troopers shout in unison. As the escort disappears from sight, silence once more returns to the caverns¡ an unknown amount of time passes¡ before a pair of glowing yellow eyes appear.... To be Continued Chapter 16 Chapter 16 "This is seriously messed up dude. We have been Kidnapped but we act as if it''s all O.K." My friend gazes at me dubiously. "Lighten up man, this is a man''s dream come true. We''re hero''s that will save the world! and¡ ahem.. cough.. save the princess" he glances over at the young girl chatting with some other so-called hero''s" "sigh¡ sure sure.." giving my friend a pat on the shoulder I slowly walk away. I pass by other hero''s¡ they sit meditating as they attempt to connect with the surrounding mana¡ a seemingly all-encompassing power. "Whoosh!" A sword slashes down beside me as I notice figures diligently training in the way of the sword¡ while others train in the art of archery.. arrows whiz by piercing their targets. I look on wordlessly for a moment before wandering away. My gaze drifts to the dark clouds looming overhead. Tall arched buildings surround me as walls crisscrossing endlessly. Recalling the past couple of weeks¡ fifty young individuals appeared here on the Continent of Pandium. The first sight that greeted us was hundreds of hooded figures standing solemnly¡ the floor glowed with an omnious light.. it was quite a terrifying sight to behold. One of the hooded figures introduced himself as Orzan.. a kind old man. We soon learnt of our circumstances and with Orzan''s speech with words like "A grand adventure¡ fame and riches¡ a fight for freedom" most of the hero''s found it promising. I did however attempt to ask him if we were able to return home but his replies have been quite vague. His words were "You youngsters so full of questions.. Ha.. Ha .. as for your question¡ we can discuss that at a later date" unfortunately there has been no later.. so here I am training to fight a war I really no nothing about. This is legit a conspiracy. Fight a demon king they said¡ it''ll be easy they said.. because we are so-called hero''s. When I was kid my mum told me to not talk to strangers. I''m not sure if that exactly fits this situation but the meaning is all the same¡ "sigh¡" I gaze gloomily around¡ slowly a shadow-like figure emerges in the hallway to my side. It stands silently as it watches me. A chill runs down my spine¡ "¡." This isn''t my first time encountering these creatures¡ My eyes harden¡ more of these dark figures start to emerge¡ glowing yellow eyes¡ a terrifying sight. Luckily they don''t seem hostile, at least not to me anyways. At first I figured my mind was just messing with me but I keep seeing them. I''m pretty sure no one else can seen them because I discreetly hinted once to a couple of people and they gave me this super bizarre look. "Good job, now they think your crazy.." "Well maybe I am.." I can''t even get a good night sleep these days so I''ve just been staying up all night training until I just fall asleep from exhaustion. I make my way to the Library Hall¡ the shadows don''t seem to go there. The library has books on about anything¡ history, strategies on war, long lost artifacts¡ foundations of the Sword.. and even secret techniques. I find myself a table near the window as I leave my worries behind me¡Stolen novel; please report. *** The day slowly pass as I bury my head in a book titled "Want to become a Bard? Train the body first!" I''m not too sure on the naming sense¡ but the author really does describe how to temper the body. There are variations on the different types of kicks¡ other diagrams show how a "bard" must pivot his or her body while grasping the right timing of the opponent. Also along with this the author seems to describe certain situations a Bard might get himself into¡ "Hence a bard needs to be prepared!" or so he says¡ "I will explain how you will battle assassins that come against you¡ now should they attack you while you are in the middle of scaling a cliff you must make sure to have achieved the "light as a feather" stance beforehand. If you have not achieved this¡." he continues on describing multiple bizarre situations¡ I''m not sure how someone could get themselves into these sort of situations but I note it down nonetheless. Reaching the end of the book, a final memor is written "True Bards are few and far between.. but so are dragons¡ thus a bard is a dragon amongst men!" Placing the book down my mind clears and I feel a little lighter "ha.." "Lyus¡ you''ve been here all day" the librarian chuckles. "If only more had a passion for knowledge as you do. I thought you might be out with your other hero friends" I gaze over at the grizzly-bearded man.. a bandanna covers his eyes. "Sir Henry.." a bitter smile appears on my face. "Okay okay.. I won''t mention it." he helplessly replies. Looking up at the man you recall he is a retired adventurer.. Losing his sight during his early years. He always seems to be stroking his beard which is a bit weird given he seems to be only in his 50''s but a chilled out dude nonetheless. The first day I met him he said "Knowledge is power¡ you have come to the right place." With no real introduction he showed me around the place. Although he is blind, strangely enough he manages to find his way around the incredibly vast archive of books, it''s like he has a sixth sense. "So what''s been on your mind¡ you better just go ahead and ask me" "Uh¡ how did you know?" He smiles "You always have this deep brooding look on your face.. It''s not hard to guess" the old man chuckles. I lock eyes with the man as I ponder for a moment before sighing.. "It''s my status stone.. I think it''s broken.." "hmm..? Broken you say.. I don''t think they break young one.. Pretty resilient things.." the old man mutters. "Well¡ mine doesn''t light up.." He gazes at me for a moment. "Interesting.. well give it another try.. I''ll take a look." Hesitating for a moment before taking out the stone¡ I rest it upon my palm. I focus my mind.. some time passes.. nothing. "See..?" A glow recedes from the man''s eyes¡ "Heh heh¡ my boy.. It''s not your fault¡ your talent just lies in¡ other fields¡" he reaches into his robe before throwing me a black stone.. I catch it.. It looks nearly identical to the blue stone. "Go ahead.." he gives me a deep look. I slowly focus on the stone before it start to pulse with a dark light¡ [Name: Lyus] [Title: Dark Hero] [Class: ???]. "Huh it worked.." I mumble to myself before a pulse of dark light seeps off the stone into my palm¡ a piercing pain overwhelms me as my body shudders¡ The old man watches on as my eyes glow ominously.. memories start appear¡ flooding my mind¡ "Huuu¡." after some time passes I blink. My gaze refocuses¡ a dark armored knight kneels before me.. glowing yellow eyes gaze out from beneath his helmet¡ "Our King has been expecting you.. Prophesied One.." his image blurs¡ before the grizzly man now kneels before you.. An excited look can be seen in his eyes.. To be Continued. Chapter 17 Chapter 17 "The Inner Conclave as you can see, is slightly different from your generic city." I gaze upwards at the mountain before me¡ thousands upon thousands of meters high¡ the peak cannot even be seen as the mountain seems to pierce the heavens. Mist rolls through the mountain side slightly obscuring my vision. Large palaces thousands of meters in size can be seen somehow integrated into the mountain itself¡ platforms also hover close to the mountain¡ arched bridges connect one platform to another. Emerald-colored vines can also be seen stretching up the mountain endlessly¡ while rainbow light flickers all over¡ "Quite a breathtaking sight is it not? Unfortunately we''re not here to sightsee. The Emperor lives within the depths of the mountain.. so if you wouldn''t mind.. follow me¡" he leads the group to a mysterious glowing platform. My mind wanders.. "The depths huh.. mmh Commander, why doesn''t the Emperor stay on the peak?" I ask. "Hmm? I''m not too sure myself, but it is forbidden to step foot on the peak.. as for why it would be any one''s guess" As we approach the guards managing the platform. "Halt. You must wait here. Some.. others will be joining your group shortly.. " The commander scowls at the guard. "You do realise we are here to meet the Emperor correct!?" Unfazed by the intimidating pressure the commander gives off "While that may be true, I preside over this entry point.. And I have my orders. You will wait." The guard sneers. "Hmph..." The commander walks to the side of the platform before sitting down cross legged¡ he proceeds to take deep breaths as he enters into some sort of meditation. I don''t really believe in that sort of thing though and quickly lose interest. Glancing around I casually walk over to where Sara sits¡ she curiously traces her finger upon the glowing lines which light up occasionally on the platform. "Mmh..? I peer over her shoulder.. a mysterious symbol flickers before you and then disappears.. "..those symbols look familiar¡" I recall the tablet I picked up a while back.. although Jack has it now¡ "Ah!? Kyle.. Your interested in this too? It''s quite pretty" her eyes take on a dreamy look. "I always dreamt of becoming a magician you know?.." she looks sad for a moment before looking back up at you.. she cheerfully smiles.. my heart warms. "You know, magic isn''t all that great, it comes with many great responsibilities¡ to be honest being a tailor like you seems much more interesting." I awkwardly chuckle. "Huh.. Really?" she gazes into your eyes for a moment before turning her attention back down to the flickering symbols. Her eyes become slightly hazy. Pondering for a moment I sit down next to her. "I can teach you." She looks over "Teach me what?" "Magic of course!" I reply. Her eyes widen, "You know how to use magic!?" Slightly nodding.. "I know a bit.. but just some flashy tricks.." The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. "There was this bard once.. he said he was some legendary warrior, I didn''t believe him for a second though.. however he did have many bizarre stories to tell that is for sure. But anyways I used to conjure some balls of light for his musical performances.. The light would flicker and change colours giving the atmosphere a very cool vibe¡ and with his not-so great music skills we made a great team" My eyes take on a reminiscent look. Sara glances over before biting her lip.. she hesitates.. "But hey.. don''t you have to be talented for that sort of thing?" she twirls her fingers together.. I gaze over and give her a nudge "Trust me, with me teaching you''ll have no issues." My eyes light up, "I can see it now! Archmage Sara!" I chuckle. "Are you making of fun of me!" She gives me a pouting look. "No..?" a mischievous glint appears in my eyes.. "Hmph.." she turns her head away.. Some silence passes before she glances back.. I lay there with my eyes closed¡ a content smile can be seen on my face as I enjoy the cool breeze. "Though.. that would be nice.. Archmage Sara" she silently mumbles. *** Later that day¡ A glimmer in the distance as two figures can be seen¡ their cloaks flap in the snowy winds¡ no guards can be seen escorting them but they seem to walk with purpose. Perhaps these figures can provide the opportunity to escape I have been looking for.. I nod to myself more reassured by the thought. "This is it!" I cry inwardly. A sharp gleam appears in my gaze. My muscles tremble in excitement. An aura mysteriously forms around my body as my mind seems to enter a state of unparalleled clarity¡ I then notice that one of the figures has broken into a mad sprint towards you. The figure seems to recognize me. The cloaked figure moves with such strength you doubt the guards can block such a foe. A cold sweat forms on my brow¡ "Okay okay keep your cool... this could be perhaps an opportunity" I mutter. "But... my luck has never been good so¡" "Master is THAT you!? Words cannot describe the pain in my heart from our separation!.." Jack cries out from a distance. I gaze over.. "Ah.. it''s just Jack.." my hopes of escape are dashed as I casually sit back down. Gesturing to a nearby trooper, he starts to feed me grapes. I notice Jack looks quite distraught but also seemingly happy at the same time¡ his eyes appear to be slightly wet.. such a touching scene¡ anyone else in my shoes would most likely run to him.. a heart-felt reunion¡ I give the trooper a solemn look and whisper something to him¡ he sagely nods¡ before then springing up with lightning-like reflexes charging in Jack''s direction. Jack is mercilessly taken down with little to no resistance. I slowly make my way over and greet Fang casually. I reluctantly decide to offer Fang a grape but he politely declines. "These are the others we were waiting for I presume?" the commander comments. "Correct, now that we are all here, I can send you through now." the guard replies. The commander nods as he turns to me, "Come, let us go." The group makes their way onto the platform. "Wait" Jack solemnly voices. The guard gives him a hard look. "Quack quack" Glancing over I notice what appears to be a duckling¡ it waddles along seemingly behind Jack in attempt to catch up to his big heavy footsteps. It tumbles onto the platform as it nestles into Jacks leg. Jack looks slightly embarrassed¡ a light gleams in my eye. Slowly stroking my jaw I nod approvingly at the little duckling. My gaze then turns to Fang.. he looks back at me calmly. Some time passes before Fang sighs.. he gently lifts up his sleeve¡ there sits a small orange crab.. It eyes menacingly gaze at me.. it waves it claws in a bizarre fashion.. I look at Fang questionably before then gazing back at the crab¡ our eyes lock.. it seems to grow timid. "Well, it''s about time we headed off already" the commander dryly comments. With everyone assembled on the platform, magicians begin to chant as glowing symbols start to light up all around us in great frequency.. then with a flash of light, our group disappears. To be Continued. Chapter 18 Chapter 18 "Hi Lyus, why don''t you join us?" a young girl softly asks. I pause my steps¡the wind blows ruffling my fur cloak¡ snowflakes flutter about. I glance over.. my gaze pierces through the snowing winds.. "Sure.." I casually reply. My friends seems ecstatic "That''s it man.. I knew you would come round! Can''t stay reading books forever you know?.." he over enthusiastically declares. I slowly walk over as the young girl awkwardly smiles¡ she has medium-length black hair that falls just above her shoulders¡from what I can tell she looks perhaps of an Asia descent. "Hi Lyus, it''s been awhile.." "Ahh... here we go.." Igroan inwardly. It''s obvious she knows me already¡ she has probably introduced herself to me before. I try to recall her name but no luck.. She pouts at me.. "Did you perhaps forget me¡?" "Uh¡ " I pretend to look up at the sky¡ "mm well I''ll let it go.. my name is Bing. Please remember it this time" her eyes soften. "Lyus.. It''s so good to see you bro" my friend places a hand on my shoulder while gazing at me solemnly "but this time it is serious.. you better mentally prepare yourself¡ we are about to enter battle!" *** A few minutes later¡ "So to get it right, we are just playing a game of capture flag" "Whaa-t do youu mean Lyus¡!? It is not as you put it "just a game"... this is war! "Yes he is right!" Bing chimes in. "This will be very beneficial to our growth as Hero''s! We will be able to gain a deeper understanding of our own skills. It will also help us adapt as a team knowing each others strengths and weaknesses¡ and ultimately preparing us to defeat the Demon King. Please join in Lyus!" Bing''s face seemingly red from speaking so many words at once. "I will join¡ but why me?" My friend gives me a knowing look.. He lowers his voice "Listen.. We probably won''t win this.. It''s better to be beaten with friends right?" I glare at him before giving him a solid kick. "Yelp!" "Vhooooom!" A horn is sounded. "Form up young ones. We will begin soon." The commander declares. *** "This is just ridiculous!" your friend cries. He holds a wooden longbow while gazing at the tall walls and defensive battlements before them. Our arch-enemy ''Blue team'' patrols along the walls keeping a look out for the opposing team. A flag with the symbol of the Blue Dragon Alazar flutters in the wind upon the battlements. Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings. "Command did not say we would attack such a heavily fortified fortress! Did we receive the wrong intel? Impossible! Perhaps... a traitor in our midst... hmmm? He gazes over at our group locking eyes with each one of us. He looks at me in particular. I ignore him as I glancearound... other young hero''s stand nearby... red badanna''s tied to their arms or over their foreheads.. some time passes as the wind blows through, the leaves rustle... weare hidden within the tall trees while the fortress stands tallin the distance. Both the Blue and Red teams were given bandanna''s respectively. My team however has taken it upon themselves to go hard or go home. They solemnly gaze at one another while marking each other with red war paint. "You have been initiated into our brotherhood young one. We expect great things from you" Your friend solemnly declares while marking me with tribal-like patterns. "Thanks¡" I dryly reply. "And so it begins¡" your friend mutters¡ "How many will we lose this time.." I watch on expressionlessly. "Sigh.. brothers listen up.. Command has ordered us to take this fortress by nightfall! I trust everyone will give it there all!" "Sir Yes Sir!" they cry. "Number 4 how does it look? How are their defenses? Anything we can exploit¡" A young man nimbly drops down from the trees above. With a salute.. "It looks pretty air tight Sir!.. However there are siege equipment and scaling ladders scattered about close to the walls.. Perhaps left behind by a retreating army." Your friend strokes his non-existent beard.. "Interesting¡ yes Command did say they sent out a strike force beforehand. However they failed... I hear they now have to eat dried bread and rice porridge for the next month.." "We don''t want to end up like them, right boys!?" "No Sir" they cry. "Very good.. Okay form up into teams of five.. Each squad having at least one archer and magician. Now Squad A and B will attack from the east¡ Squad C and D will engage from the south and squ-""How about we all just attack together..?" I casually interject. "Pssstttt" the other members take in a sharp breath as they gaze at me in shock before then nervously gazing back at the commander. One team member whispers to me "Dude you shouldn''t interrupt the Commander like that.." Speechless I gaze back at my friend. He gazes at me solemnly.. he ponders for a moment "Your idea.. Hmm yes, quite splendid.. We will do as you say.. What is your name recruit?" "uh.. You know my na-" "I asked for your name, not your life story Recruit!" "It is Lyus Sir" he nods approvingly. "Well Lyus, Command will be sure to hear of your contribution" "Now men time to move out.." And so¡ our team of rookie hero''s charge forward with next to no real plan in mind. The arrows although blunted nonetheless are extremely painful if a person is hit by one. Arrows pierce forward as we do our best to dodge. Despite our valiant effort, ten hero''s are already down moaning in pain while some are outright crying at the top of the lungs. At this point it becomes a complete mess. While the boulders and ruined wagons provide us with cover it''s really every man for himself at this point. Some time passes¡ nobody seems to have the heart to keep charging so our team is mostly just shooting from a far. "Sigh¡" At this rate, we''ll be here all night. I don''t feel like doing anything spectacular so I''ll just chill here behind this boulder. "mmmh..!?" I gaze over at the tall battlements¡ shadow humanoid-like figures slowly start to form out of nothingness on the wall¡ a bloodthirstiness glint appears in their gazes that sends a chill down my spine¡ glancing around, it seems no one else can see them¡ "Of course.. just my luck.. I''m really done with this aye.." "It''s okay I didn''t see nothing" I mumble to myself. I gaze up at the sky for a moment¡ "Dammitttt¡arghhh alright Everyone listen up!" We are moving up right now! Your either charging right now with me or you don''t deserve to be called Hero''s. If you can''t step up now how do you expect to save a whole Empire!¡" With one deep breath "ROAARRRRRRRR!!!" Both myself and the shadows seemingly in sync roar at the same time as I release my pent up emotions¡ My body starts to move on its own accord.. my thoughts fade away as my mind sharpens [+1 Willpower]. I keep my body low as I dash forward¡ my left foot hits the floor and with a pivot my body moves evasively to the side. Arrows pierce down where I just was. Sprinting in a bizarre pattern¡ fragmented memories start to align themselves along with my movements.. With the twist of my wrist an arrow is deflected¡ a rapid couple of steps to the right.. two steps back¡ my body phases away¡ almost illusion-like. Arrows fly by but my figure moves about freely along a certain rhythm. Before I know it I''m close to the fortress wall¡ wooden scaling ladders can be seen lying about but I have no time for that¡ I pick up a spear off the ground. My foot slams into the ground.. As my body arches back "Psssvvvtt" "Boom!" The spear slams into the wall. My body starts to feel lighter as my speed increases¡ with my foot lightly bouncing off the wall.. I flicker upwards¡ my foots lands on the embedded spear before leap up once more¡ appearing on the battlement wall¡ My gazes sweeps over the wall like lightning¡ my sword at the ready¡ as for the Shadows they are nowhere insight.. as if mocking my reckless actions¡ my movements slow as I glance over once more in an attempt to find the enemy¡ a solid kick lands on my chest as a warrior sends me flying off the battlements¡ Boom!.. Coughing a bit, I lie on the ground below the battlements¡ cries can be heard in the distance "For Lyus! A True Hero! His sacrifice shall not be in vain¡" and then I fade into black¡ To be continued Chapter 19 Chapter 19 I stand before a Massive Arched Door.. Glowing symbols radiate from it. Quite an intimidating door to be honest. "Now before we go in a few words of advice, the Emperor must be respected at all times, so just accept what he has to say, don''t make eye contact and definitely don''t talk back. Common sense really but you go it yeah?" The commander asks. I slightly nod my head as I glance around¡ Jack stands faithfully behind me. My heart eases knowing I have my most trusted disciple by my side. The commander steps forward and with a heave the door is slowly pushed open. Burning torches light up my path as an endless hall stretches out before me. Silver-armored guards stand solemnly. I slowly walk through the hall as I glance over at the nearby wall. Engraved images can be seen¡ monstrous sized creatures fight against warriors¡ seemingly depicting an ancient war. "A fight long ago.. it seems.." I mutter. As I continue to walk new images appear. The civilization fighting these beasts seem to be in dire circumstances¡ different scenes are depicted¡ while these images are of stone, a mysterious aura can be felt. Taking a closer look I seem to feel the desperation of these warriors¡ the bloodthirstiness of the beasts¡ and the self-sacrifice of these ancient warriors¡ a certain charm can be felt. One stone image shows a battle against terrifying beasts within a jungle like terrain.. some of these ancient warriors are crushed to death by titanic snakes¡ while others are swarmed by venomous insects¡ slowly these warriors are picked off one by one. Another scene shows an Ancient warrior standing upon a mountain peak¡ he wields a massive longbow.. wave upon waves of beasts attempt to swarm him¡ his hand blurs as multiple arrows are shot off in rapid succession¡ arrows are embedded into the nearby mountains¡ and then a monstrous sized ape creature emerges, it clashes with the ancient warrior¡ their figures flicker about as their battle shatters their surroundings. Other battles are similarly depicted, seemingly spanning across the continent. Shockwaves from these clashes change the very landscape itself. I glance over at another scene¡ a few Ancient warriors standing upon an ocean¡ a storm rages on¡ lightning flashes through the sky¡ a sea creature slowly rises from the water below as it''s eyes ruthlessly gaze at the figures. Sharp hooked tentacles burst out from underneath the ocean as the ancient warriors hurriedly dodge¡ the warriors pierce through the tidal like waves and engage the creature. While these ancient warriors seem to show no fear I can feel that this battle is a desperate one. As I continue to walk through the hall I notice one stone image in particular¡ a Bastion fortress stands¡ warriors line up upon the wall defending against an endless tide of beasts¡ The fortress seems to depict the civilization''s last stand¡ a piercing light glimmers in the distance before a golden figure flashes across the sky crashing into the beast tide. With a swing of his sword, thousands of beasts are decimated. The mighty warrior flickers about the battlefield¡ his blade creating a storm of blood. His sword skills take on a bizarre form as multiple resplendent light beams form, the beams pierce forward¡ sword scars appear all across the plains and mountain side. Despite this mighty display of power, a bloodthirsty glow can still be seen within the beasts eyes¡ they continue to charge forward recklessly. It seems the most dire of circumstances and yet.. this figure seems to have sparked a hope in the defending warriors. Archers line up across the wall as their arrow pierces thousands of miles protecting golden-cloaked warrior. Some arrows stray crashing into the nearby mountainside as the rocky walls are shattered apart. The defending warriors gather under the banner of this mighty figure pushing back the beasts. A fire burns in the defending warrior''s eyes.. Just as the tide starts to turn¡ the ground starts to tremble¡ Nine terrifying beasts slowly emerge¡ they each stand thousands of meters tall¡ My eyes glow with a mysterious light before some noise breaks my concentration. I blink as I attempt to gather my thoughts.. I slowly recall where I am before then gazing over at the disturbance. I notice a few figures wearing an assortment of vibrant colours, they are scattered about the hall seemingly in a heated discussion and fail to recognise your presence. I gesture to the trooper beside me.. His eyes show unwillingness but I give him the thumbs up. He raises his voice "Attention! Prisoner 43 has arrived, reporting to the Emperor!" he begrudgingly declares appearing slightly embarrassed. I nod in a relieved manner. The commander looks over stupefied. The hall descends into a moment of silence before the Nobles then look over at me mockingly. I ignore them of course as my attention is focused upon the figure seated on the throne. The man sits garbed in a magnificent golden-scaled robe, his steel-like muscles ripple underneath¡ black medium-length hair¡ but his eyes¡ are closed. "Is he asleep?" I say in a slightly too loud voice. The Emperor''s eyes lazily open¡ he gazes in my direction¡ his eyes seem ancient. A powerful aura spreads outwards encompassing the hall before then slowly receding backwards. If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. A squire awkwardly approaches the Emperor and hands him a scroll. The squire quietly whispers something to him before the Emperor waves him off¡ he proceeds to read through the parchment in his hand... "Ahh I see¡" he mumbles to himself. He gazes at me for a moment before casually continuing to read the scroll. He pauses once again and looks back at me.. the gaze in his eyes deepens. I look on speechlessly¡ whatever is written on that scroll can''t be good for my reputation.. I''m an upstanding citizen after all. "You seem to be known by many names these days.. Prisoner 43" the Emperor notes. Other names such as "a not-so suspicious individual, and apple stealer-"Hey wait how did you know about that!?" I pause¡ "I mean I''m no apple stealer!" The emperor looks over gloomily.. "¡Please do not interrupt me¡ as I was saying Mr. Apple stealer, your also known as the Forest fire culprit?" at this point I can''t help but interject "Now hang on I may be an Apple stealer but I did not start any forest fire!" An even darker look appears on the Emperor''s face. "Jack is your disciple is he not?" "Well yes" I reply. "So as his Master you will take responsibility for his criminal activities¡ Now.. Sir.. Please do not interrupt me again." Jack''s face pales as he seems terrified when I gaze over at him. The Emperor takes a deep breath¡"Huuu¡ So as I was saying.." he glances down at the list again.. "Sigh.. such a long list" he mutters under his breath. "Ohh..?" Something catches the Emperor''s eye. He glances back up at me.. "I am intrigued by one of your most recent names¡ what was it again¡ ahh Mr¡ Kyle?" He gazes deeply in my direction. A non-existent breeze blows by as I ruffle and pat down my robes. I then gaze silently back at him. The commander seems to be making weird gestures toward me in a panic. I assume it is his poor attempt in relaying to me that I should stop making such fierce eye contact towards the Emperor. I ignore him of course. "Audacious!.. I Lord Orzan, Archmage of the South¡ request the Emperor to let me strike down this criminal!" An interested look appears in the Emperor''s eyes as he gazes back at me. I sagely nod seemingly in agreement with Orzan''s words. "I agree, criminals must be struck down!" I cry heroically. I casually gesture to Jack behind me. An excited and perhaps slightly wicked expression appears on his face as he steps forward. "You send a boy to fight me!? What a joke¡" Orzan scoffs.. "Listen here.. you may be a mystic.. boy but I have lived for over a thousand years! It''s a wall that cannot be overcome with just talent alone." I take a moment to consider what this magician just said¡ I pause.. I then glance over at Jack, "Did he just say he was a thousand years old?" "Affirmative Master." I gaze back at the Magician dubiously. "How old are you this year Jack?" "I just turned eighteen this year." I look at Jack for a moment before giving him a pat on the back. "Good luck! I know you can do it." I make a hand gesture before Jack then valiantly steps forward. Both figures face each other at about 200 meters apart. The rest slowly recede backwards giving room for the battle. The Emperor raises his hand before clenching his fist signaling the start of the match. "Heh heh.." Orzan''s chuckles¡ "Are you ready boy?" his staff starts to tremble as glowing lines begin to light up upon it¡ "Whuuu hurrr¡" standing off to the side I feel a slight breeze starting to appear.. My gaze sharpens on the mage as the wind seems to bend and form around him. In only a few breaths of time, ferocious gales form around the mage¡ the wind seems to lift him off the ground. His form slowly becomes shrouded by the raging winds. His vague figure hovers there as his eyes glow from within the hurricane seemingly waiting for Jack to make the first move. As for Jack.. I glance over.. nothing noticeably has changed on his side. "Sigh¡" Steeling my heart as I realise I might need to find a new disciple after this. Jack gazes silently at the mage before raising his left fist while with his right hand holds his staff behind his back. Without warning a barrage of wind blades flicker out following unpredictable trajectories. I barely even notice the attack before it is upon Jack.. but with a whirl of his battlestaff he deflects it with relative ease. "Huu¡ good one Jack¡ that''s my apprentice" I silently mutter. Jack''s eyes take on a dreamy purple look and with a flash of light he appears in the air above the hurricane, his feet springing off the cavern roof he crashes downwards with unparalleled might¡ Boom! Wind blades flicker about within the hurricane as the two figures interlock. With each exchange of their staves a shockwave can be heard. "Whooosh" with a swing of Jack''s staff the wind around him quells giving us vision of the fight for a moment before Jack then dashes forward. Orzan appears to be chanting¡ the temperature drops¡ ice extends rapidly across the ground. "Hmph" Jack sweeps his hand in front of him as a fire wall roars to life. The fire and ice clash as the air becomes hazy. Jack leaps as he charges at the mage, Orzan slams his hand into the ground erecting an earth wall before him. Smash! Jack charges through as the wall crumbles... Orzan stumbles back¡ a panicked look can be seen on the magician''s face. As Jack is just about to reach the mage the earth beneath him cracks and a massive outburst of vines erupt outwards.. Jack somersaults backwards barely managing to escape as the vines viciously pursue. A crackle of lightning appears on the top of Jack''s staff before¡ "Vsssttt" a discharge of lightning emanates outwards and the vines are reduced to charcoal¡ The magician clicks his tongue¡ no panic can be seen upon his face¡ "a bait..?" I muse. The magican gazes gloomily at Jack¡ With no real advantage thus far Jack starts to chant¡ a monstrous-sized white wolf slowly emerges. Orzan not to be out done makes a hand gesture and two large earth golems arise from the ground ¡ a spear and shield form in their hands as they charge forward pincer attacking the wolf¡ a chaotic battle ensues. Both Jack and Orzan flinging off spells one after the other in an attempt to gain an advantage¡ "Whoosh! Phhshh!" Both figures blur as flickering shockwaves can be seen all over the place. While they wear magician attire their close combat skills are no joke. Both figures flicker back¡ some silence passes.. "I say.. I think it''s about time we got serious, yes?" the magician remarks. "Indeed." Jack casually replies. *** The Emperor silently sits watching the battle unfold below¡ "Sigh" little interest can be seen on his face. He glances around before locking his gaze on you¡ a playful smile appears on his face. He rises from his throne as a golden aura starts to form around him¡ I gaze over noticing his movement. The Emperor''s arm starts to glow as a golden spear materializes in the Emperor''s right hand. "What he can do that..?" The Emperor''s stance shifts¡ "Huh..!?" the direction he is facing¡ I glance off to the side.. there Sara awkwardly stands... The Emperor''s figure blurs as a golden light pierces towards her. My eyes widen¡ a trooper happens to glance over as the ground explodes from where you were just standing¡ a figure materializes before Sara. Two mighty figures clash. Whoosh! Boom! Barely managing to deflect the Emperor''s thrust, the spear brushes past my body while the air pressure is redirected off to the side¡ a massive cavern is now evidence of the power behind that strike¡ a lightning fast kick follows as I attempt to block¡ Boom! The Emperor stands gazing into the rubble. "Hmph¡ you must have at least enough honour in you to still protect the girl." The Emperor ponders for a moment¡ "That''s enough, you''re all free to go." The battle between Jack and Orzan rages on¡ they seem to have no intention of stopping¡ ice spells ricket off the wall as bolts of thunder crackle within the dust cloud.. A tinge of annoyance appears on the Emperor''s face¡ "I SAID¡ THAT''S¡ ENOUGH!" The Emperor''s figure blurs appearing between the two of them.. as he slams his spear into the ground. Both figures are sent flying by the shockwave. "Now then.. you may all leave¡" Stumbling my way out of the destroyed wall¡ "Phew.. Good thing I''m used to taking beatings from my Dad as a kid.." I glance around. "Jack my boy, where are you..? I say.. it''s about time we should be heading off too." Multiple silver armored guards surround you.. I take a moment to consider the situation¡ "sigh¡" To be continued Chapter 20 Chapter 20 A lone figure can be seen making his way through the desert, with the glare of the sun.. the temperature has reached scorching levels. Sweat forms upon the figures brow as he journeys on. The desert winds ruffle his tattered cloak¡ as he disappears into the sandstorms. Days pass before the figure leaves the desert venturing into a vast mountain range. A steep mountain path lies before the figure¡ multiple pathways can be seen¡ the wanderer takes out an old-looking scroll from underneath his cloak¡ he carefully unrolls it.. After tracing his hand over the map a few times he gazes around¡ with a step he cautiously makes his way forward, towards a certain pathway. The sun wears down as vines begin to appear clinging to the rocky walls. Noticing this he continues on, his pace increasing¡ heading deeper within.. A cliff face appears before him¡ he gazes down at the sharp drop... a fog blocks his vision. He pauses for a moment before gritting his teeth.. he slowly begins to scale down the cliff. The wanderer climbs for a few hours¡ his arms begin to grow weary before he notices he is nearing the ground¡ he drops down into what appears to be a dense jungle, seemingly cut off from the rest of the world. He looks relieved having somehow known that this would already be here¡ he takes a deep breath before disappearing into the jungle. Insects fly about¡ while many exotic creatures can also be seen.. six-winged dragonflies zip about.. white hawk-like birds soar in the skies. The wanderer seems to be searching for something.. He approaches an old tree.. engraved markings can be seen on the bark. He nods to himself before continuing forward. Some time passes as night approaches¡ insects chirp while fireflies glow as they flicker about¡ a sharp glint appears within the foliage. An arrowhead pokes out slightly.. a camouflaged figure melds into the surroundings¡ he gazes at the intruder. The bow string is slowly pulled back as he prepares to release his arrow¡ but then a hand lightly touches his shoulder. Another similarly jungle-like warrior slowly shakes his head. He gestures to the lone figure.. their eyes trail the figure¡ a tribal necklace of some sort can be seen dangling around the wanderer''s neck. The bow slowly lowers before the two venture over to the figure. They emerge quietly from the jungle¡ it takes a moment for the wanderer to notice them. He seems slightly startled at first before coming to a certain realization. No one speaks before one of the two camouflaged figures raises his hand to his chest.. He gestures for the wanderer to follow them.. the wanderer walks behind as the three of them meld into the jungle¡ Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings. *** "I''m surprised to see you General.. even with a damaged map.. I find it hard to believe you found us¡" "And that necklace of yours¡ interesting.. I guess the rumors are true.." Kening gazes solemnly at the frail old man before him. Sage Kharazal. A terrifying figure who is believed to be able to bend the laws of fate itself.. Covered in an assortment of trinkets that glow with a mystical light.. "I''m not sure what I can help you with General. The years haven''t been kind to me.." the old man chuckles. "Lord Sage¡ a calamity is upon us.. dark creatures roam the lands¡ I seek your assistance for the Empire.." "Ahem¡ yes General.. our diviners have spoken about these fiends you came across¡ most definitely terrifying beings¡" His face becomes serious as he gazes at the General.. "However¡ as for your so-called Empire¡" he shakes his head.. "We cannot help you.." "Our ancestors have prophesied this event long ago.. Even now the enemy is probably at their doorstep and they don''t even know it¡" The General face pales as he opens his mouth to say something before then closing it. His mind starts to race.. ".. but if you knew this would happen.. surely you have a solution, correct?" The sage looks at the General for a moment before sighing. "You are correct.. but.." he strokes his beard.. "our choice is instead to leave this continent¡" he gazes at the General¡ "our tribe have records of another place.. ''Paradise'' or so it is called¡" the General appears to be slightly startled.. "You must be mistaken Lord Sage.. if there existed another continent¡ I would surely know about it... there would at least be rumors" the General''s eyessharpen for a moment... "Wait.." he looks up at the tribal leader solemnly.. "You wish to head south!?.. Your crazy! You''ll all die! Those sea behemoths are no joke..! Impossible¡" The old man gives the General a deep look.. "Agreed¡ by conventional means that is¡ but our ancestors have been preparing for this a long time ago¡ we have our preparations.." The General seemingly lost for words¡ he hesitates before glancing back at the old man "If you are to go.. I ask.. allow the Emperor to go with you.. If it''s him.. I know he can rebuild." The old man gives the general a sad gaze.. "Do you really think the Emperor would abandon everything he has built?.." The general pauses at those words. "Even if we could, we have run out of time.. We will be leaving in a couple of days when the wind rises." "I think we will end it here General.. I see your resolve for the Empire¡ perhaps you should have been the one to lead the Empire.." the sage chuckles. "Is that it then¡ is there no hope" the General mumbles. The old man gazes curiously at the general. He ponders for moment "Well.. There was something¡ our diviners spoke of something¡ a figure in their divinations¡. one who is unaffected by the so-called laws of fate. He seems to be merely drifting through. Even with my centuries of knowledge.. I have never encountered something like this before.." "Whether friend or foe we''re not quite sure but if you can find him.. Perhaps you''ll have a chance.." The general looks up as he eyes sharpens "Is what you say true?.." The Sage solemnly nods. Placing a firm hand on the General''s shoulder.. "You do not have to bear this burden alone¡ an Empire is as strong as it''s people.. Find ones you can trust¡" The general slowly nods "Mmh¡ I will seek out this person you speak of.. ahh Lord Sage.. a gift for you.. here¡" slowly passing over the tribal necklace he previously wore¡ "This..!?" the old man slowly places it over himself before a blinding golden glow erupts into the sky. Patterns emerge within the old man''s eyes. Looking deeper, his eyes seem to contain beasts that howl yet no sound can be heard. And then its gone.. His eyes dim.. As if nothing but an illusion. "Good! Good!" grabbing the General shoulders¡ "The Kharazal tribe will not forget this General" the old man gestures to a distant mountain peak. A piercing whistle is heard before a massive creature soars from the peak¡ it pierces through the skies in the General''s direction. "A parting gift.. you could say.." the sage chuckles¡ "Hmm?" the general gazes over.. "Wait¡ what is that!?" "Kweeehhhh!" a massive shadow crashes into the ground before the General. "Your Empire awaits you oh-sir General.. Ha.. Ha¡" To be Continued. Chapter 21 Chapter 21 Two figures can be seen sitting across from one another. Henry gazes at me solemnly. "Sir, why did you attack the Emperor!?" I look at him speechless, "This is just a big misunderstanding, if anything I was the one attacked! I am innocent!" I helplessly reply. A dark look appears in Henry''s eyes. It is obvious he doesn''t believe me. "Sir. I don''t think you understand the situation. We are not here to play games." Henry slams his fist on the table beside him as it shatters into pieces. "You. Will. Tell. Us. What. We. Want. To. Know." Henry makes sure to emphasize each word. I glance deeply at the broken table.. I start to reconsider what I was about to say next. Support the author by searching for the original publication of this novel. Henry looks at me intently. "Ah I know! I am¡ um.. " I pause¡ glancing back at the shattered tableonce more as I slowly retract what I was about to say. "Okay, I''ll be honest with you Commander, I''m not who I say I am." Henry sighs in relief.. "Finally your seeing reason, Okay so who are your really?" I glance around.. four walls surround you¡ "Okay okay¡ listen closely." Henry leans in slightly.. I pause for dramatic effect.. "I am most definitely¡ not a suspicious individual" I place my hand over my chest as I nod in reassuring manner. A fire starts to burn in Henry''s eyes as he seems to be bubbling in rage. Veins bulge on his forehead.. I grow quite concerned for his mental state. The door opens as a silver-armored guard walks in. "We have completed our review¡ You''re free to go, but¡ you cannot leave the Inner Conclave for the time being. If you would follow me." I look pleasantly surprised. "Henry, well you heard the man.. I''ll be off then. Catch ya." Henry gloomily looks at me. I pause mid step, "Oh wait, Henry I''ll make sure to drop by soon, you can say hello to the wolf pup" I give his shoulder a fist bump. His expression lightens up slightly at that. "You better uphold that promise¡." Henry replies. "Of course! While I may be an apple stealer I most certainly uphold my promises." "Wait did you just say you¡¯re an apple stealer!?" I pause for a moment.. "Uh no..? Ha.. Ha.. Just joking Henry.." I glance at the silver armored guard.. "Time to go, lead the way." He nods and starts walking, I closely follow. Henry gazes at me suspiciously. To be Continued. Chapter 22 Chapter 22 Hero''s cast spells of unimaginable power with ease.. flickering figures and sonic booms. Slightly off to the side three figures can be seen standing under the heat of the sun. "One.. Two.. Three.. Fou-" With the swing of the sword.. Swishhh.. And the blade slashes downwards. Each figures holds their wooden swords diligently. "I''ve already done this tens of thousands of times" Fang complains. Jack looks over at Fang, "Your talent is not that great Fang¡ so you must put in extra effort¡ a hundred thousand more times should do it" Jack chimes in. "Thanks.." Fang dryly replies. I ignore both of them as I continue to seriously train and attempt to master the "Way of the Sword." I glance over enviously at the Hero''s who display their superb swordsmanship skills. Not only are their sword skills advanced but their magic capabilities mesh so well together that they seem unrivalled. "Heh as expected of those blessed with talent, but for a beginner like me I can only do so much." Sweat forms on my brow. In the midst of Fang and Jack''s banter I continue to diligently swing my sword. In the distance a wolf pup, a duck and a menacing-looking crab also undertake their own training of sorts. The pup attempts to look intimidating as it pounces on its imaginary foe. The crab interestingly seems to have taken charge of training the duck. The crab viciously chases the duck as the duck seems to be running for its dear life¡ Jack''s pet duckling is sure to become mighty strong. I continue to swing my wooden sword¡ while others would mock such rudimentary sword skills I become more and more intrigued by the swordsmanship¡ whish.¡siii¡ my sword cuts the air¡ my muscles start to strain but I don''t notice as I seem to enter into an entranced state. I lose concept of time as hours go by.. then days.. before I know it a whole month has gone by... And just like that a decade flashes by¡ ''You have become One with the Sword'' +1 Focus. Glittering points of energy surround me as they start to align unto a single point¡ I grasp the right timing and pierce through¡ a brand new world unfolds unto me¡. "Let me tell you Jack these sort of sword skills are not even used by apprentices!" "Silence! Master is focused and as his loyal followers we shall not disturb him!" "What follower!? Hey hey you can''t just go and label someone like that!" Swish¡ I blink as my sword pauses in the air. "How is it Master?" I glance over before slowly responding "Mmh¡ yes I think I''m getting the hang of this beginner slash thing. Maybe in a couple a months I can set my sights on learning the beginner thrust!" An eager look appears in my eyes. "I knew you could do it Master!" Jack encourages. "Mmmh yes I think I could make the ''cut'' for a swordsman.." Ho ho¡ I stroke my jaw as I chuckle to my own pun. The genuine version of this novel can be found on another site. Support the author by reading it there. Fang winces on the side. He feels the need to interject but then all of a sudden a piercing pain strikes his ankle. "Arggghhhh!" A menacing crab clings to Fang. "Mmh what a strong bond the two of you have there" I comment. I start to feel the heat of the sun.. so I lazily wander over to the cool shade under a tree. *** Some time passes before a young girl slowly approaches, I realise its Sara. She sits down next to me.. There is silence for a moment before "u-hh this for you!" She hands me a bottle of water. "Thank you" I reply as I take a sip... "Phssst.." I choke and sputter water everywhere. "Ah!? Are you okay!" "It''s nothing..." I gaze dubiously at the water bottle. "Was that some sort of spicy alcohol" I ponder. Sara wouldn''t be the sort to do such a thing, she seems too innocent for that. Glancing around¡ I notice some hero''s snickering in the distance as they glance over in my direction. My eyes glow darkly for a moment. Sara grabs a towel beside her and gently wipes my face. My heart softens... "Ahh this is..?" She looks up at my face curiously.. Her hand stretches out lightly touching the scar upon my right eyebrow¡ too faint to really notice from a distance. "How''d did you get this?" she quietly asks. I slowly reach out and lightly grab her hand¡ "This¡ " my eyes grow hazy¡ a memory appears in my mind. "Son.. You''ve been lacking in training lately. Your older brother trains diligently.. but here you are spending your time reading books. Foolishness. Don''t tell me you want to become one of those so called Magicians... You''ll be the first one to die on the battlefield, that I can guarantee." My Father lightly comments. "So what, if I want to be a magician..! They are so cool¡ with their hooded robes and mysterious looking staves! They can even controls the elements.." My Father looks at me gravely before casually drawing his sword as he gestures "Listen son.. magicians would stand no chance against me. I could pierce forward in an instant, who is going to give them time to chant anyways." Gazing back at my Father, "Who wants to be like you anyways.." I mumble. "Hmph what did you say!?" My Father flicks his wrist as his sword creates a gash above my eyebrow. Blood drips down¡ I wordlessly look back at my Father. "Now then, remember this son when your on the battlefield.. No magician will ever be a match for a True warrior." The hazy look in my eyes recede¡ I notice I''''m still holding Sara''s hand¡ her face is bright red. I slowly let go of her hand as I stand up and gaze up at the sky.. "Huuu¡ say.. who do you think is stronger? A magician or a warrior?"¡ Sara looks up at me curiously.. "Well¡" her fingers knit together as she takes on a serious look¡ I find it quite amusing. "I feel¡ the question in itself is wrong.." Sara voices. "Huh..?" I gaze back at her. "It''s just.. magician or warrior aside¡ it doesn''t matter who is stronger.." my gaze narrows on her. She seems to be wrestling with the question in her mind as she ponders¡ and then her eyes shine brightly as she looks up at me.. "Kyle.. we all fight for something right¡? It''s that something which is what makes us strong!" I blink.. a realization seems to dawn on me as I start to laugh.. gazing back up at the sky¡ "ha¡ ha.. Sara.." "Yes?" "I''m really glad I met you.." She looks back at me curiously before she smiles brightly "Mmh! Me too!" To be continued.
