《Rise of the God King》 Prologue White. Pure white. Everything around me was pure white and it had no end.
[Hello! You may be wondering why you are here.]
I was startled at the voice that was booming in my ears.
[I am a god. More importantly, I am THE god of another world, and I have brought you here from your world for a purpose.] [To make things clearer, you died in your own world and have no path forward there. So, I decided to bring you here to make your lives more than what they were.] [You may have many questions, but I do not have time for them, so I will only tell you the important parts and let you be on your way.] [Congratulations! I have chosen you two as players in my game. I have grown board from existing for so long and I have decided that I wish to die. Thus, I need someone to take my place as the god of my world.] Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon. [The good news is that it could be one of you. The bad news is that I¡¯m not going to just make one of you a god. I want some entertainment first before I die. Yes! Who will win and become a god and who will loose and cease to exist?] [Yes. You heard right. I have decided that the winner of this game will be the new god of this world and the looser will cease to exist.] [This is a high stakes game and I¡¯m sorry, but you cannot refuse this. So, let me explain about the game first.] [You can win the game one of two ways. The first is the easiest, kill the other contestant in this game and you will win. The second and harder path for this game is to try and rule my world. That is to say, you must have all intelligent life drawn under your banner.(give or take a few exceptions) If you win you get to be a god, if you lose then your soul will cease to exist forever. The greatest high stakes game in history will now be played all over my world.] [Speaking of my world, I think it would be a good idea for you to understand it a little. To begin, my world is not like your world. In my world, beings from your wildest fantasies are real, and magic and demons and angels exist. It has many different species and difficulties. It is a world of wonder and beauty, but also one of cruelty and death. In this world, might makes right. If you do not have the strength to fight and protect yourself, then you could die from the smallest and weakest animals and beasts. Furthermore, in my world, everything is based off of a system, and the strengths you have and the abilities you can use are related to this system. I created this system because I wanted everything to be more organizable. Thus, my world is this way.] [Now, since you are humans from another world and know nothing of mine, I feel like you would need something to help you along your way to make up for the weaknesses you will have there. So, I have decided to allow each of you to have a part of my divinity. What you do with it is up to you.] [First and foremost, I will make you both partially immortal. That is to say, you will not die of old age. You can still die from disease and being stabbed and the like, but aging is not one of them. And since you both are around the same age, things won¡¯t be too tilted towards one player over the other.] [I will also place you both on different sides of my world, relatively. This is so you both won¡¯t kill each other quickly and end the game to soon.] [Now, I think I have said all the things I needed to. So, now with everything said, good luck my champions! I look forward to an entertaining show!]
After that god¡¯s speech the whiteness disappeared, and it all turned black. I didn¡¯t even get to see the other player. All the information was just too much at once and I had not time to let it all sink in when I suddenly became very dizzy and passed out. Chapter 1 When I awoke, I opened up my eyes and saw the stars above me, with two white moons hanging overhead. I then heard the crashing of waves and the smell of salt water. When I sat up, I noticed that I had been placed on the edge of a cliff facing the ocean. Behind me was a forest and in front of me the ocean. On my right-hand side, towering mountains, stretching past the clouds and lining up in a perpendicular line to my body, deep into the horizon of the land. On my left continued the cliffs and forests, cutting off the land from the sea for miles and miles. The cool breeze from the ocean air caused me to shiver. That was when I looked down at myself. I had a clean looking pair of boots on my feet with nice fitting jeen pants covering my lower half. My upper half was covered in a loose threaded shirt, covered by an unbuttoned cloak. I judged that it looked to still be a few hours until dawn. The warmth of the sun would be a welcomed sight after just experiencing the relentless cold gales from the ocean. I could almost feel my bones beginning to freeze, and the clothes coving my body offered no protection from the cold. I would have to find some shelter if I was to last until dawn warmed me. However, after I had picked my body off the ground to walk into the forest, I heard a strange noise.

Confused and startled, I jumped back and looked around, but the screen would always follow my line of sight. I then began to remember what happened to me. ''I died.'' ''Now I¡¯m here, in some gods game?'' I then started to get angry, but then I sobered up. I needed to focus. If everything around me and what happened to me is true, then I¡¯m in danger and I could die. I cant let my anger control me right now. Not until I can find some place to be safe. That was when I took a look at the screen again. I looked just like a screen you would see from a video game. I then became curious. This screen looked just like a game window that I used when I played a few VRRPG¡¯s back on my world. ¡°My world. Huh¡¡never thought I would hear myself say that.¡± I then turned my attention back to the screen that was floating two feet away from my face. ¡°So this is the menu right? So does that mean I can just click on one of these to learn more about it? Stats. Lets see this one first.¡± I then tried pressing my finger on the stats icon on the menu. When I did, a new screen opened up in front of me.

It really did look just like a player¡¯s status screen from a game in my world. ¡°hmmmm¡¡.ok¡.If I follow video game logic, then that means my health is related to my vitality. So 1 pint in vitality = 10 HP, which makes sense mathematically. And I guess I could presume what endurance, strength, and agility are. Endurance would probably be how fast my HP recovers over time. Strength would be, well, strength, and agility would be agility. I¡¯m not sure why my name is Unspecified. ..¡¡..what if I can choose my name? Well, I¡¯m kind of used to my old one so I¡¯ll just stick with it. Hmmm¡.my stats didn¡¯t change when I made that decision. Do I have to say it out loud for it to change? Ok then. My name is Jonathan.¡± Immediately after I said my name my stats changed to include my name. Satisfied with my name change, I went back to looking at my stats. ¡°Alright, now if I¡¯m following game logic then Willpower and Intelligence would be related to MP, which I¡¯m guessing is mana and mana usually corresponds with magic. That actually sounds pretty cool. Ok. So, those two stats probably relate to something like mana pool and mana regeneration. Usually that would be impossible because magic doesn¡¯t exist, but that god did say magic does exist here so I¡¯m just going to roll with it. Although, if there truly is magic here in this world, then that means that I can use magic too. Interesting. First good news I¡¯ve had all day.¡±If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation. I quickly got excited with the thought of being able to use magic, but I sobered up just as fast when another gust of wind tor through my body, chilling me to my bones. The wind also made me start worrying about my stats. Mostly because I don¡¯t know what is considered strong in this world and what is considered weak. I also started to become more mindful of my surroundings and the dangers that could lurk in the shadows. I did not want to die from something stupid and cease to exist. If I have to play that god¡¯s game, then I am at least going to try to survive and win! My anger started to swell again at the thought of that god putting me here in his game, but I quickly stamped it down. ¡°Being angry about it would not help me currently. I was a smart guy on Earth and I can¡¯t let my anger run wild in a world with death at every turn. I needed to focus.¡± Before I closed out of my status screen, I started to wonder what the title meant. I tried clicking it with my finger and, like game logic, it opened another screen with a description.
God Candidate: Blessed by God to have the opportunity to be a god, but only under very strict requirements. Also blessed with the ability of eternal youth(Unable to die from old age).
After reviewing it, I backed out of the screens until I was faced with the menu again.

I then clicked opened the Divinity Store. When I did a screen popped up from that god.
Welcome to the Divinity Store! The Divinity Store is my gift to you players to help you in this game. Enjoy!
After closing that god¡¯s pop up a new screen popped up.

I was shocked! Not just by the function of the store but also the large amount of points! It was an insane number. I tried to stamp down thoughts of a funny movie talking about one billion dollars from my mind as I turned to focus. I quickly clicked on Design log function to see what it was all about.

It turned out a little underwhelming. Then I tried the Model tab.

The list just kept going. It was incredible! If what this store stated is true then it looks like I can create anything, including other people and beings! My mind was racing. This was incredible! I then back out and looked at the other two tabs I could choose. I guessed that Random model would choose one at random for me from the list earlier, but I was more interested in the New Design board. I clicked it.
Welcome to the New Design Board! What would you like to create?
Once I clicked the New Design Board, a massive space opened up in my mind and that message rang in my ears. But I didn¡¯t know what that space was for. However, immediately after I opened the New Design Board another cold wind blew through my body, chilling me. ¡®I wish I had a warmer jacket like the one I had in my world.¡..¡¯ After I thought that, in the massive space in my mind, a jacket, looking exactly like the one I had at home appeared in the space with some numbers off to the side.

High End Jacket has been created successfully. Item automatically moved to Inventory.
I then opened up my inventory and only saw the High End Jacket in it. I tapped the jacket and it appeared in my hands. I immediately put it on and found that the cold wind could not get through my jacket. I was nice and toasty. I was even surprised that it fit me perfectly. I almost felt custom made to my body. It was incredible. With this new function I then proceeded to make new pants that were cold resistant along with some cold resistant gloves. I also found out that the + function at the bottom of the description meant that you could add new stats to it. These stats could be anything you wanted. I then tried experimenting with the gloves. I tried to add the function of untearable, or the spell fireball to them, but when I did the cost shot up to the thousands. In the end I was fine with the gloves just being cold resistant. My next experiments were to see what else I could create with my New Design Board. I tried making a car, but I couldn¡¯t because I didn¡¯t know the inside parts of it. If I created it, then I would have only created the metal shell of the car. I then tried to make a house, and when I did a green outline appeared in front of me. I tried to move away from it but it would always follow my sight. When I looked over at the trees the outline moved to the trees and became red. The button that said ¡®Create¡¯ was also greyed out when it turned red. From my understanding of games, I decided that this was a function that allowed me to place the house I wanted to create in whatever area I wanted, as long as the outline was unobstructed and green. Seeing this I decided to make a house on the cliff to get out of the wilderness. I was protected from the cold winds from my clothes, but I still felt having 4 walls and a roof around me would give me a sense of security. Not a big house though, I don¡¯t want to stand out, but a small looking shack of a home with one room. I used basic wood for the walls and roof and floor. I added a door and made some windows with some glass facing the sea. In essence, I made a plain box with a triangle on top. It almost looked like what a child would draw. After I was done, and I had a green outline for it, I hit create. What happened though, startled me. It. It just appeared. I mean that was a good thing, but I made it and it appeared. There was no building process or magical spell, it just appeared. One second it¡¯s not there and the next it is. I open the door to the room and I was welcomed with 4 sturdy wooden walls and a wooden roof. Everything was exactly how I made it in my mind. It was incredible. My mind had created a 10¡¯H by 10¡¯W by 10¡¯L cabin. I walked around the room and felt the walls and the door and the glass. All of it was real and all of it was exactly how I made it. I then proceeded to make a bed and a chair and a table. I was even able to create a common iron knife for protection. I was astounded by the flexibility and the creation speed at what I was doing. After a while though I felt very sleepy and decided to hit the bed, but before I did, I made a few traps that would wake me if anyone came into my little home. Nothing big, just some bells on the doors and windows. Once it was all settled, I felt exhausted. ¡°I guess creating things takes a lot out of you. I¡¯ll start tomorrow with a better sense of what I should do. At least now I have some protection and am relatively safe.¡± Poll What do you think he should create first? What would you like to be created first? Let me know. If you dont find the one in the poll, add it in the comments below. Let me know. It might happen. Just going to run with this novel for now. I have up to chapter 10 planned out. Still thinking about what I should do for the world. Drawing it up now. Hopefully going to have a finished looking world map soon.If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. Groggily, I looked around my room. But in the next second my eyes shot open. At first, I thought that I had been kidnaped. I did not remember falling asleep on this bed and in this room and I became flustered. However, after a few moments I regained my bearings. ¡°Right, new world and shit. Great. So, it wasn¡¯t a dream.¡± I then started to take note of the sunrise over the ocean through my windows. Cautiously, I exited my house and took in all the beauty of the first sunrise of a new day in a new world. "This place isn''t so bad." After admiring the beauty, I looked around where I was again. The sun¡¯s illumination could provide some baring¡¯s for me, but contrary to my hope, there was none. The coastline continued to the north and the mountains cut the coastline to the south, so I could not see if there was anything to the south. I then looked at the forests behind my cabin. What I found was an almost endless green with nothing to stop it. Disappointed in my findings, I returned to my little cabin and sat at my table. ¡°Ok. So, first things first. I need to make a list of what I need to do so that I can have some purpose and allow me to map my goals.¡± I then created a notepad and a pen from my Design Board. ¡°I¡¯m really starting to enjoy the Design Board¡¯s usefulness.¡± After obtaining the notepad and pen, I got to work writing down my goals and ways to accomplish them. I tried to be as practical as possible so that I could stick to them and hopefully survive. [Goals: 1. ?Survive - ?Food ~ ?Hunt or fish? - ?Water ~ ?Try and find a freshwater stream or look for a fruit that houses some form of water ~ ?Try the ocean water? Maybe it is drinkable? - ?Shelter ~ ?Got it. 2. ?Defense - ?Get stronger stats ~ ?Find out how - ?Learn to use weapons, make traps for small game ~ ?Practice - ?Companion? Guard? ~ ?Find out if the creatures you make are able to serve me and not attack me ??Possibly use them to protect me or find food 3. ?Godhood - ?Make decision on what to do ~ ?Either kill other guy ~ ?Or try taking over world(dumb idea, never works out, don¡¯t do that me) 4. ?Learn more of this world - ?Make contact with natives of land - ?Find out what strong stats are - ?Find out where I am - ?Find out how to survive in this world - ?Find library or books on world 5. ?Divinity Store - ?Experiment more with it - ?See what else I can create, find limits - ?See how to replenish Divinity Points(I know I have a lot, but its better find this out sooner rather than later)] After looking over my list, I nodded my head. ¡°This is a good start. Now, what should I do fist.¡± After saying that, my stomach started to grumble. ¡°Well, that was an easy decision. Food and water it is. Now, how will I find some. I can probably put off the food part for now and try hunting for a fresh water source. Should I try climbing down the cliff, or should I try and find a place that meets the ocean? If I¡¯m able to reach the ocean water, then I could try and see if the ocean water is drinkable here. Hmmmm¡¡..¡± ¡°Rejected. Too much work for something that I think would be a failure right of the bat, but if I can¡¯t find a water source in the forest, then I¡¯ll have to come back to it.¡± Then an idea struck me. ¡°What about my Divinity Store. It did say that I would be able to create anything. Maybe I can create water and food. I then opened up my Design Board. ¡°If I can create clothes and a house with this, then maybe I can create water and food from here?¡± I then tried to make water from my New Design board, but no matter how many times I tried thinking about it or trying to visualize water, the Design Board could not make it. ¡°Dang it. Well, at least I found one of the limits of the Design Board.¡± I then decided to try and make some food from the Design Board. From that, I found success, but only on certain things. I found that I could make basic fruits and vegetables, but not soups or more complex dishes. I think it was the same thing with the car. I understood what a car was, but I did not know how to make the engine or the complex wiring and such in it. This interesting experiment allowed me to understand the Design Board more. From my experiments, I also found that the design board could not only create basic things, but it could also create complex things that I knew how to make. For example, I could create complex dishes that I learned and created from my world, but I could not create those complex dishes that I didn¡¯t know how to make. For example, I used to cook pancakes and pie in my world and because I knew each part needed to make those dishes, I could create them in the Design Board. However, this did not help me in acquiring a fresh water source. But then I had a revelation. It related to what I was doing the night before with adding abilities to my gloves. What if I could add the water to a piece of equipment? This time I tried to make a water container that could house water, and, to my surprise, it worked.

I immediately hit create, and in 10 seconds I took out the water bottle from my inventory. I then opened it up and found clean drinking water inside. This was another thing I noticed from the Design Board. It could not create strait water, it needed something to house the water for it to create it. My first guess would be that the inventory can¡¯t accept just water into it. This hypothesis was found true when I tried pouring water back into the inventory. This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version. The result from that experiment was just a wet mess. I then tried putting the water bottle back into the inventory, and it worked. I even took it out and put it back in again. ''It seams that my inventory could house my items for easy storage.'' I also noticed that the water wasn¡¯t filled up after taking it out of the inventory again, so I could only assume that the Design Board put the water in it in the beginning and the inventory could not refill it. ¡°OK. So now that I have my water and food taken care of, I can now focus on other things.¡± I then looked over my list and decided to tackle defense. ¡°I don¡¯t really know how to raise my stats, but if I follow game logic then I just have to kill something and try and level up to improve them right? But I am not certain about going into the forest yet. If this is like how that god said, then I could possibly die from just the most random and weakest of the monsters and beasts. I think it would be better to focus on other ways to get stronger first and then come back to that.¡± I then looked at making myself a few more knives of varying sizes and a sword and a shield. I also created new clothes with better defenses than the ones before too. I changed into my new clothes and placed most of the knives and equipment in my inventory. I did keep a few knives out and placed them around my little cabin. I put one in each corner and one under my bed and pillow for emergencies. This was just for precaution so that I could be prepared in the event that I am attacked and I have to move to a place without a viable weapon to defend myself. I am a very cautious man. Then I decided to tackle the most pressing matter concerning my powers, creating creatures. First, I wanted to see what creating these creatures was like, and then inspect how the react to me and the surroundings. I also needed to test and see if what I create would be loyal and obey me. ¡°Ok. So, if I¡¯m going to do this then I should do this right. I don¡¯t want to die from my own creation. I¡¯m not Dr. Frankenstein.¡± I then walked outside of my house and created a shovel. I then picked a place far enough from the cliff with dirt from the forest, but close enough to my house, so that I could run to my house if necessary. I then began to dig in the dirt for a few hours. I dug a hole 9 ft deep and 4 ft wide. I then made a ladder to get out of the hole and pulled the ladder out with me. ¡°Alright, let me see if I got everything. Hole, check. Weapons, check. Shield, check. Protective clothes, check. Ok. I think I¡¯m ready to create.¡± I then brought up the creation screen and clicked skeleton. I choose skeleton due to, from my understanding of games, their weak bodies and desire to kill the living. I also chose the skeleton because I could determine if my creations would obey me and if it didn¡¯t then I could just kill it easily. At least, that is what I was hoping. After clicking skeleton a new screen popped up and the same green outline appeared in my sight. Interestingly, this outline was smaller than the house¡¯s outline and was circular in shape.

After looking over the new screen I grew excited. From what I learned over my experiments, I could change anything that had a plus or a minus next to it. But what I was most excited about was the personality part of the screen. ¡°If I could possibly change the personality to not being able to hurt me then I could make the skeleton work for me and not have to worry about it attacking me.¡± I then calmed myself down and looked over the stats again. I compared the stats of a skeleton to my stats. I then grew disheartened. While my stats weren¡¯t as bad as the skeletons, what my stats did show was that I was not much better than a simple skeleton. I then decided to change some things on his stats and before hitting create.

After looking everything over again and making sure that the outline was in the hole, I hit create. After waiting 10 seconds a white, human, 6-foot-tall skeleton appeared in the hole. Its bare-naked bones shining in the sunlight. Its skull turned and looked up at me. I could see tiny lights flickering in the eye sockets. Neither of us moved. We were both studying each other and waiting for the first to move. ¡®Holy crap! It¡¯s an actual skeleton. I don¡¯t see any wires or anything holding up the bones. Well, I guess it could be magic that¡¯s holding them together. Still, it is super creepy having it appear out of nowhere.¡¯ The only sound between us was the crashing of the waves from the ocean not far away. ¡®Well, it didn¡¯t try to kill me right off the bat so that¡¯s good. I wonder if I can give it an order.¡¯ ¡°I am your master! Jonathan! You are not allowed to hurt me or kill me, and you will obey my every command. Nod your head once if you understand.¡± The skeleton nodded its head. ¡®Shit! That was so cool! I told it to nod its head and it did it! OK, ok, calm down. Let¡¯s not get ahead of ourselves.¡¯ I then tried some simple orders. ¡°Jump once.¡± It jumped once. What followed was a series of experiments where I asked the skeleton in the hole to do a bunch of strange and weird things for me. I wanted to test the limits of my strength over the skeleton. I made it pat its head and do a rubbing motion over where a belly could have been. I made it hop on one foot. I even made it do the disco. After an hour of testing I found that I had complete control over the skeleton. Then I started the next tests. I took out a simple wooden spear from my inventory and began to stab at the skeleton in the hole. I wanted to see its reaction. I stabbed it a few times in its head before the skeleton began crumbling to the ground in a heap. Throughout me stabbing it, it did not try and doge it or resist the spear. I stopped and stared at the crumpled pile of bones. ¡°So, it would not try and attack me when I made me its master, but what would happen if it was a regular skeleton without me changing its personality.¡± I then created another Bob skeleton, but this time I did not change its personality. I kept the stats the same as the last bob skeleton though. The result was much different than the earlier bob skeleton. When the skeleton appeared in the hole, it screeched/groaned at me. Then it tried to climb out of the hole. I tried telling it to stop and stand still, but it wouldn¡¯t listen, and it continued to try and climb out of the hole. Immediately, I began stabbing it again with the spear. It took me a little longer because the skeleton was climbing and not standing still, but I still managed to kill it. ¡°Ok. What I think may have happened is that if I don¡¯t change their personality, then they will stay the same as a regular skeleton and act accordingly to their species.¡± I then opened up my stats to see if anything had changed from killing two skeletons.

After looking over my stats again I found that it had added something. ¡°If my game logic is to be trusted then the 0.2/100% probably is an experience bar, and each skeleton was 0.1% of experience. Hmmmm¡¡¡I wonder if that is the normal experience % that I would get from killing a skeleton, or if I would get more experience from a skeleton that had regular stats.¡± I then tried everything again, but I left the stats as normal for the skeleton. After appearing, it screeched/groaned at me and tried climbing out of the hole. I tried stabbing it with the spear, but I found it much harder than before. Its increased agility allowed it to doge more of my attacks and it even tried to attack me. Thankfully, it could not get out of the hole, so even with its increased stats, I was able to kill it in 10 minutes or so. After the bones crumbled to the ground, I sat down next to the hole, panting. I wasn¡¯t an athlete in my old world, but I wasn¡¯t that out of shape either. However, killing that one normal skeleton made me feel like I just finished a run. I was sweating all over and out of breath. I could feel its intent and desire to kill me the whole time too. This only added to my stress and pressure. I had to hope that at least my effort was worth it as I opened my stats again.

¡°What? All that effort for barley anything!¡± After looking it over, I found that a normal skeleton gave me 0.5% experience. I was shocked. ¡°All of that effort for just 0.5%? That¡¯s crazy! I¡¯m glad I didn¡¯t go out in the forest to hunt then. I would have died almost immediately if I ran into anything that wasn¡¯t trapped and had less intelligence than me.¡± What I learned from this experiment would stay as a reminder to me. I was prey here, and until I leveled up and grew stronger, I would be stuck as easy prey. However, I also found that I don¡¯t have to be personally strong right now if I can summon a strong minion. I went back to my cabin for lunch and a quick rest before coming back to the hole to try something else. What I was going to try would be very dangerous, but if I succeeded, then I could have another layer of defense. If I failed, then I failed, and I would move on to the next idea, but I needed to try this, even if it put my life at risk. Instead of creating a skeleton in the hole I was going to create one out of the hole. I would take precautions fist, of course. I would create the skeleton on the other side of the hole, so that if it wanted to get to me it would either have to go around the hole or it would fall right in. I also would lower the stats of the skeleton so that it would be easier to fight. This way, if it all went wrong, then I could easily escape to my cabin or I could stab it a few times to easily kill it before it killed me. I would also change its personality to that of the first bob skeleton. This way I could really test and see if I had control over the skeleton. ¡°Ok. Here goes nothing.¡± I then hit create on the new Bob skeleton. After I did, the skeleton appeared and just stood there, unmoving. This was a good sign. ¡°I am your master Jonathan. You will not harm me or try to kill me, and you will obey my every command. If you understand nod your head once.¡± The Skeleton nodded its head once. ¡®Good. This is going good, but more tests are needed.¡¯ ¡°Good. Now, take 3 steps backwards.¡± The skeleton took 3 steps backwards. I then proceeded to do all the same tests I did before with the first bob skeleton. After an hour of intense experiments, I determined that the skeleton would not try and harm me and it would follow my every command. I then created another skeleton with the same personality as the first, but I left its stats as normal. What I got was also good results. Both skeletons would obey my every command, and, from my perspective, they did not have any intention of killing or harming me. ¡®Good. This is very good. Now I have some guards.¡¯ I wasn¡¯t yet able to trust them with weapons yet, but I would allow them to come closer to me. I lifted up my shield and held my sword and commanded the weaker skeleton to walk around the hole and stand in front of me. The sight of seeing a 6-foot-tall, white, human skeleton standing in front of you is surreal to the extreme. I felt strange, but I did not feel any hostility from the skeleton, nor did I see it try and attack me, which was good. ¡®OK. That test went well. Now let¡¯s try something else.¡¯ I created a wooden stick shaped sword and I placed it on the ground in front of me. I backed up a few paces and I told the skeleton to pick it up. When he did, I noticed no hostility nor intent to attack me. This was all good. I then commanded him to go to one of the trees at the edge of the forest and attack it with the wooden sword. After I gave the skeleton the command, he acted. The skeleton ran to the tree and started to hit the wooden sword against a medium sized tree at the edge of the forest frantically. He wasn¡¯t doing much damage, but I could see and feel his intent to attack the tree. This was something I did not feel when he looked at me. This made me feel much better, because it meant the skeleton would not attack me if I did not tell it to. I then told the skeleton to stop and to come back to me. I then proceeded to do the same experiments on the other skeleton until I was satisfied. After a few hours and once I felt comfortable with the skeletons, I gave them a new order. ¡°Watch the forest, if anything comes out except for me, attack it, and if you can, kill it, unless it is another human. If it is another human, then subdue it and take away its weapons. If you understand nod your head once.¡± Both Bob skeletons nodded their heads. I felt much more secure now that I had some guards. They may be weak, but they would cause a ruckus and it would allow me ample time to prepare. I then returned to my cabin and shut the door. As I entered back inside my house, the sun began to set. ¡°All in all, a good day. I found out a lot more about my abilities and this world, and I got some new guards. I feel much safer now. But just in case, I should try to make some more guards tomorrow and beef up my defenses. Hmmmm¡..I wonder if I can make a wall with my Design Board. I guess I¡¯ll have to check tomorrow.¡± I then made myself a great dinner and then a wooden couch to sit in front and block the door at night. ¡®I may have lowered my guard around the skeletons I created, but I didn¡¯t want one to just be able to stroll into my cabin unabated. Cautiousness is king!¡¯ I chuckled and then went to sleep. Chapter 3 They came early in the morning. Slithering like snakes and as quiet as the moon. They slaughtered our night watchers and anyone who resisted before we even knew what happened. We were severely unprepared for them. But, then again, this wasn¡¯t supposed to happen to our village. We were the farthest village from any humans. The only dangers we had to worry about were the corrupt and cruel tax collectors and the monsters from the forest. We were a frontier town. We were all poor farmers. They relocated most of us to this village 5 years ago because the capital needed more food. Most of the people here in the village were overflow from towns who couldn¡¯t find food, orphans, or street rats like me, who could be used as cheep labor. To make matters worse, we all were on edge these past few months waiting for the harvest. The famine was worse this year than the last, which made everyone a little jumpy around food. We did have a few abled hunters that brought us meat from the forest, but other than that, we were hurting. But I still couldn¡¯t understand this. ¡®This kind of attack, it wasn¡¯t supposed to happen here. We weren¡¯t supposed to be wary of human attacks. That is, unless they came from the mountains, but that¡¯s impossible. The humans haven¡¯t been able to cross the mountains in 300 years. And even if they were able to cross, someone would have spotted them. If they were spotted then the capital would have known about it, and if the capital knew about it, then they should have sent more guards here. Unless they don¡¯t know¡..¡¯ I contemplated the gravity of that thought as I hid in a small crevice around a building, watching the human soldiers swarm the village. I knew I had to leave, but I couldn¡¯t find a good exit. The soldiers had the village relatively surrounded. I knew I needed to get out of this village quick before things got worse. I was hoping that the 3 bear beastmen sent by the capital to guard our village would be able to push them back, or at least hold them off for me to get away. Unlike everyone else in the village, I had always been alone and knew how to take care of myself in times like these. Well, not exactly times like these, but when everyone starts screaming in chaos, I knew I needed to run away to be safe. I tried to get to the side of the village closest to the forest. I knew that my best bet of surviving this was to hide in the forest and try and make my way around to another village. Thankfully, I was also used to people being after me so this whole event didn¡¯t faze me much. For the rest of the people though, this was a nightmare. Women screaming, children crying, men lying in pools of their own blood. One of the houses even caught fire and started to burn, lighting up this dark night. ¡®wait! That gives me an idea. I can use the burning house as cover. If I can stay in the shadows of the fire, I should be able to make it out. The soldiers will not want to be near the fire. That is the break I have been needing.¡¯ I immediately moved from house to house, hiding place to hiding place, towards the burning house. As I neared it, I could see soldiers corralling the villagers into cages. Those that were old or sick were immediately killed in those groups. The humans were merciless. I turned a corner it in time to see a 14yr old cat beastman girl crying and hiding in a corner over the body of her decapitated grandfather. I was surprised by her willpower to not be screaming like the rest. We locked eyes for a moment and I could see the terror on hers. I remembered her, she was a new arrival that came in with her grandfather a few months ago. She must have seen something in my eyes because she ran over to me and hid behind me, silently begging me to save her. Half of me wanted to push her away and try to make my escape, but I knew she would just follow me and if she did that, she would just give away my position. The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation. I whispered to her, ¡°Fine. But you have to be silent and follow me quickly, I will not wait up for you. Got it?¡± She nodded her head and I continued on my way. Finally, after a few close calls, we made it to the burning house. I checked around for soldiers, but most of them were farther away from us. After making a silent prayer and telling the little girl to run with everything she had after me, we bolted towards the forest. I didn¡¯t dare look back, I didn¡¯t know if the girl was behind me or not, I was just running for my life. After almost making it to the tree line I could hear the yells of the soldiers. They spotted us. I tried to speed up as much as I could. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. I was drenched in sweat as I started to hear them catching up. After I made it to the tree line, I just kept going into the forest. I hoped that they would be weary of the monsters and pause. I hoped that that pause was long enough for me to get as far as I could away from them. I just kept running, my body started to burn, my lungs felt like ovens as I desperately tried to get air to them. I knew that this was the only reprieve that I would get from those soldiers, so I needed to keep pushing myself. I kept running even after the sun came up, and I continued for a good hour before slowing down to look back. When I did, I noticed the little girl 10 or so meters behind me, drenched in sweat and panting. She looked like she would pass out any second. I was again surprised by her willpower and speed. When she finally made it to me, she passed out on the ground at my feet. She had pushed herself that hard. I felt sorry for her. She lost someone she loved and had to go running for her life in a span of a few hours. But life wasn¡¯t fair and if we didn¡¯t keep moving then we would die too. My body was burning, but I knew I needed to get us away from where we were. We had left too many tracks. Beastmen were faster in the forests but only when you didn¡¯t leave any tracks. So, I turned and made some tracks to the left for a few minuets and then came back. I learned that trick from one of the old hunters in the village, try and make dummy tracks to split or disorient your enemy. When I got back, the little girl was still sound asleep. She looked cute with her disheveled hair on the ground. If we weren¡¯t running for our lives, I would leave her be and let her sleep. But we couldn¡¯t. I tried waking her up a few times, but she was out cold. I thought about leaving her again, but since she made it this far because of me, I decided to bring her. It was a decision that was unlike me. I always had a rule to look out for myself because no one else would. I mean, I wasn¡¯t really connected to the village, so the fates of the villagers right now didn¡¯t really faze me. But, if this girl died now, then it would be because of me and I didn¡¯t want that on my mind. ¡®I mean, I¡¯m not one for heroism, but I could at least use her later to watch as I rested. This could help us stay safer in the long run.¡¯ I then picked her up and started to walk in a different direction. The little girl was very light compared to my 17 year old body. It was probably because she was slightly malnourished, but I didn¡¯t focus to much on it. I wanted to get at least a few more miles away before resting. The forest has beasts hidden in it shadows too, so I needed to be vigilant. I knew we were far from safe, but at least if we kept moving, we would have a higher chance of surviving. ¡°I can do this. All I have to do is keep focused and keep moving.¡± ----------------------- Back at the village a soldier was reporting to his captain. ¡°Sir! 2 girl beasts made it to the forest. We sent a few men in to capture them, but the cat girls outran them. What should we do sir?¡± With a jump and a glare, the tall and robust captain spoke to the soldier. ¡°You lost two little beast girls?! How did that happen?! We came here covertly so as to not arouse their suspicion and take them all in one fell swoop! We planned this perfectly! You Jackasses!! How could you let this happen?!?¡± ¡°We are sorry sir! A house caught fire and our soldiers were weary of the flames, so they spread out too much in the line.¡± ¡°You blubbering pieces of shit! If a house catches fire, walk through the bloody fire! Or die! Do you know how much we are risking with this attack!? This operation was to acquire slaves for the kingdom and plant the seeds of war between the wolf beast tribe and the Lionheart Union! If we cannot either kill or take every single beast from this backwater village, then the mission counts as a failure. If the beast girls make it out of the forest and to another town, then they could spread the news that humans appeared in their country! It took us years to create a way through the mountains. As long as the beasts don¡¯t know that we are here and focus on their own petty squabbles, then we can fortify a staging base without them knowing.¡± ¡°Do you understand?!? If this mission fails, we will jeopardize everything in the upcoming war! Those damn Sorakens have been stopping our advance in the west for far too long, and the mountains have prevented our advance northward. But if we can pass through the mountains and set up bases along the beast kingdoms then we can crush the other kingdoms in the north and conquer the continent! SO tell me what you should do, you worthless bag of slop!¡± The soldiers were trembling with the pressure from the captain¡¯s words and couldn¡¯t say anything. Not hearing anything from the group of soldiers, he started yelling at them. ¡°GO GET THEM!!! DON¡¯T YOU DARE COME BACK UNLESS YOU HAVE THEIR BODIES OR PROOF THAT THEY DIED!¡± ¡°B-But sir! The forest is riddled with monsters. They even say a few dragons live in this forest! What if we are attacked by them?!¡± ¡°EITHER BRING THE GIRL¡¯S BODIES BACK OR DON¡¯T COME BACK AT ALL!!¡± A silence surrounds the soldiers. Fear and anxiety flash over their faces. But then the squad of 20 armed soldiers resolutely responded to their captain. ¡°Yes Sir!¡± Nervous and scared, the soldiers begin to head into the forest after the girls. After they left the captain pulled his aid aside. ¡°If those girls make it out alive then we will have a serious problem on our hands. Tell the men to finish with the village quickly and pack them all up on the wagons. We will travel on their roads for a few miles before pulling off and heading back towards the mountains so as to not leave our tracks behind. We need to speed things along. The slaves should help the process, but not much. When we get back send a few men to report back to base on the other side of the mountain. Try and get more workers for the building projects. If we can secure a fort at the entrance we made in the mountains in a month, then we should be able to get everything back on track. BUT! There shouldn¡¯t be any more screw ups! Got it! Or its all of our heads.¡± ¡°Y-Yes sir! But what about the men we sent after the girls?¡± ¡°Leave them. They will more than likely die and get eaten by the forest monsters. Hopefully their large numbers can attract enough monsters to corner and kill the girls too. If not, then luck is not on our side and we will have to implement plan B. But don¡¯t tell the men this. They need to focus on plan A.¡± ¡°U-Understood sir!¡±
