《What Am I Becoming?》
Ch 1: Choke on it
My name is Cimex Vita and I just turned 18 today. Most people would be elated by their birthday, but I¡¯m not. For an orphan 18 is when the jig is up, when people stop caring because you¡¯re no longer a kid. The others all tell you happy birthday and give you a pat on the back with a fake smile on their face. They look at you with fear in their hearts hoping their own future will be different. When you¡¯re young you can hope and dream for your future family to come for you, its all a lie. As you get older that ignorance goes away and you see the world for what it is. Only the good looking and smart ones leave, on the other hand you can be lucky and be so messed up people will take you away on the kindness of their heart, or better said pity. As for the rest of us it¡¯s a lottery and I¡¯m just a regular loser. Well enough of that I should return to reality.
Around me are my fellow orphans, boys and girls of all ages. I know they don¡¯t really care about me, after all I¡¯m kind of a loner. I can¡¯t even remember the last time I spoke to most of them. The kitchen door opens and the smells of cupcakes flows into the room, out comes Ms. Brown our head caretaker. She¡¯s a really nice person who loves to give without receiving. As the story goes this house used to belong to her and her husband. After a terrible accident her husband died leaving her all alone. She was a loyal woman and never remarried, instead opening an orphanage and accepting those with no one.
She is one of the only two people I ever liked in this place. The other was a girl named Cindy who showed up when I was 12, she¡¯s already gone for a long time. As a little white blonde girl she didn¡¯t last a year before she was adopted. As the only person who was nice to me, I admit I had a childhood crush on her, but I¡¯m happy she got out.
As the birthday boy I got my cupcake first while everyone else lined up for their turn. We sang happy birthday and that was that. I already had some plans on what to do when this time came and had packed my things. As I walked out with my small luggage, I could hear Ms. Brown call out to me.
¡°Cimex, wait!¡±
I stop and turn around.
¡°Yes Ms. Brown. What is it?¡±
¡°Cimex I just wanted to tell you goodbye and that I want you to know that this will always be your home no matter what. If you ever need anything fell free to call and visit.¡±
¡°Thank you Ms. Brown, but I think I¡¯ll do alright for myself.¡±
Before she can respond again, I leave. Bless that woman for her kind heart, but I know she doesn¡¯t have much to give. Almost everything she¡¯s had has already been used on the orphanage. I don¡¯t want to burden her so I already planned ahead of time. I have job at McRonalds and just recently signed a lease for a shabby apartment a few blocks away from it. It¡¯s not a perfect life, but its mine.
As short bus ride later and here I am, in front of my new home. A rundown building which most likely has multiple health code violations, yet the city doesn¡¯t give enough of a fuck about to fix. I open the front security door and walk up the flight of stairs. The old wooden steps creak with ever movement I make. The carpet of the third-floor hallway looks and smells bad. There are multiple stains of which I don¡¯t want to know the origin of. If I could afford better, I would just leave, but I don¡¯t have the cash.
The second door to the right is my unit. I open the door and take in the sight. The wall paper is falling off, the carpet is dirty and torn, the shower is moldy, dirty toilet and best of all the window is cracked. This place just screams class.
In the corner I see an old crt Tv, probably something someone left behind. I plug it in and it turns on just fine, of course whoever left it wouldn¡¯t dare to leave the remote so I am stuck manually changing the channel. I feel like watching the news.
¡°Breaking News. A Los Diablos City police chase comes to a fiery end when the suspect loses control and slams into a tree. The car quickly caught fire and emergency services were unable to remove the suspect. We will have more on the story after the break.¡±
¡°Are you looking for a new set of wheels? Come down to-¡±
I shut it down realizing its almost time for work. I get dressed in my uniform and walk out of my new home. Life sure does suck.
In the world of Lacrios the war of the gods come to an end. After centuries of battle the dark forces have been utterly decimated. Without the power of worship from their followers the dark gods are horribly weakened to the point where they can finally be killed. As the holy gods come to kill them, they hold their final council.
¡°We¡¯ve lost, after so long it''s over.¡±
At the head seat was the god of death, around him sat the goddess of toxicity, the god of disease, the god of decay and the goddess of deception. The genuine version of this novel can be found on another site. Support the author by reading it there.
¡°What now? Wait for death? Is this what we have come to?¡±
The goddess of deception asked the god of death.
¡°Perhaps it is, or perhaps it is not.¡±
¡°What?¡±
The gods respond in unison.
¡°Alone we are weak and we have failed. With an end there is always the hope of a new beginning.¡±
¡°Stop with this cryptic bullshit you old bag of bones just say it straight!¡±
The goddess of toxicity had never been one for deep thinking.
¡°Very well. It is clear our time is up and we will soon be expunged from existence. I propose we focus on leaving a new legacy and prepare so seed a new world. Alone we are to week to do so, so I say let us merge and use the remainder of our power to create a seed which can grow into something greater than ourselves.¡±
¡°Are you insane that will kill us all.¡±
¡°We are already destined for demise my dear, I rather it be at my own hands than another''s.¡±
¡°But-¡±
¡°No buts. It is here and now. What is your choice?¡±
¡°I agree with the god of death. Our time is done, let us use our last moments to create a greater being. Although it has never been done imagine a god that can control multiple elements. The idea of that sends shivers if excitement through my rotten nerves.¡±
The first to agree was the god of decay, death and decay have always been close.¡±
¡°I agree with the heads decision.¡±
The second was the god of disease.
¡°So be it.¡±
The third was the goddess of deception.
¡°Fine.¡±
And finally, the goddess of toxicity.
¡°Then let us begin.¡±
With the god of death¡¯s command, they all began to compress their beings into small drops of dark liquid. There was a black one for death, and cloudy one for deception, a green one for toxicity, a putrid brown one for decay and dark purple one for disease. The drops were guided towards each other through the will of the gods. When they touched, they combined one by one until all that was left was an unassuming gem with 5 swirling colors inside. Inside the gem the final remains of the god¡¯s souls stored their knowledge and power. Sacrificing themselves a small rift opened and swallowed the gem.
On that day the world of Lacrios experienced the death of the dark god council. The holy forces cheered at their death. They saw this as the end, but little did they know this was only the beginning.
The gem travelled through the rift seeking a world where it¡¯s seed could sprout. The world needed to be unclaimed by gods of their respective powers. Trespassing on another god¡¯s world with the same power would only be seeking death.
After searching for so long it had finally found a perfect world. This world lay unclaimed for who knows how long. Although there areremnants of past god¡¯s powers, those gods had long since left as the people''s mindsfocused on technology and didn¡¯t rely on holy powers. This would be a hard world to claim, but without competition it would only be a matter of time and luck.
It¡¯s been a few months since I became independent and things are looking better. I had the carpet removed and just finished furnishing my apartment. It finally looks like a real home. It¡¯s still cramped, but at least it isn¡¯t a dump.
Work at McRonalds didn¡¯t last long. My manager was a bitch and constantly changed my work hours. I cursed her under my breath a bit too loudly and was quickly fired. I had been saving up so I was still able to pay for rent while I looked for new employment. Now I work as a groundskeeper at a community garden. I now spend my days cutting grass, trimming trees, removing weeds and watering plants. There is no work schedule, all I have to do is keep it looking nice. As long as the garden looks presentable I can leave whenever I want.
It¡¯s December which means the trees don¡¯t have leaves and the plants don¡¯t grow fast. On days like these the sky is cloudy and it¡¯s cold. There isn¡¯t much to do, so I can lock up the shed early and leave.
Ping
I hear the sound of something hitting the shed and I look up to see a dark dot bounce off the top only to role down to my feet. I pick up the strange object to get a closer look. It was shaped like on of those weird dice with a bunch of faces I see in board games. It was partially transparent and I could see a swirl of five colors inside. Perhaps it was a valuable gem of some sort, nah, probably not. I still wondered why it fell from the sky. I know crows like to pick upshiny objects and take them to their nest, but I haven¡¯t seen one nearby when it happened. I like it so Iput it in my pocket and go home.
I headed straight home and took a shower before going to the meeting point. Even though I was a minor I liked to drink, so I had my sources. I know it¡¯s bad, but I don¡¯t like to socialize and Istay at home bored most of the time. Since I¡¯m already loner what¡¯s wrong with being a drunk one. The local pot dealer was my beer vendor. He sold me two six packs of tres XXX and I was on my way. I drank a few beers while watching the TV for the rest of the day.
Once I got really drunk I would stop paying attention to the screen and just start contemplating. Sometimes it was about the meaning my life or just life in general, sometimes about the future, who my parents are, if I will ever find love, etc. I¡¯m pretty sure I¡¯m depressed.
As I doze off I feel a ticklish sensation from my leg. I shift my vision only to see the mystery gem. Only now it had legs, IT HAD FUCKEN LEGS! Dam thing looked like a spider as it crawled out of my pocket and up my chest. I tried to run, but all I managed to do was flop off the couch because of how drunk I am. That thing wasn¡¯t in my line of sight anymore. When I tried to lift myself with the support of the couch, I saw it. It was waiting for me on the armrest.Clever girl.
Before I could scream it pounced on my face. It forced my mouth open and went inside. It didn¡¯t stop there and I could feel it going down my throat. I was flailing about like a lunatic because I couldn¡¯t breath. In the end everything started to grow black and I passed out.
Ch 2: Awakening
I woke up with a sudden jolt of my body. I was covered in sweat, laying on the floor with a massive headache. My memories from last night are fuzzy. As they slowly came back to me, I quickly checked my pocket. The gem wasn¡¯t there anymore. I looked around and didn¡¯t see a single sign of it. I couldn¡¯t put my finger on it, but something just felt wrong. I couldn''t help feeling that it was all a drunken delusional. The gem, the spider, they are just a creation of my imagination. I was losing it just staying in this cramped up apartment drinking myself to sleep, yup that must be it. I enter the bathroom and undress, catching a glimpse of something that frightened me. A naked man next to me.
For a second I thought there was an intruder, but only it wasn¡¯t. That was the mirror, that man I was seeing was me, only he wasn¡¯t. The guy I saw was taller than me, handsomer, better toned and much paler. He wasn¡¯t a scrawny little orphaned loner I was used to seeing.
¡°What the hell?¡±
I lifted my hand and touched my face, sure enough it was different, I had changed. It felt surreal like a dream, nothing made sense. How did I change so much over night? What happened after I passed out? What did the gem do?
Questions raced around my mind as I tried to make sense of reality. The problem is that whenever I tried to think about last night my headache would get worse. In the end I pushed it to the side and took a cold shower to cool off. Without any better ideas I dressed myself left my apartment, my stop, the local clinic. I signed in and waited to be called. As I sat down, I kept on feeling that strange sensation. I could feel something was wrong with me beyond the changes of my body and the headache. I just don¡¯t know what it was.
When it was my turn, I entered the examination room and met the doctor. Dr. Kakashi had been my doctor since I can remember so we knew each other already.
¡°Sup Doc.¡±
¡°Cimex? Now that¡¯s a pleasant surprise, looks like you¡¯ve been busy since last time.¡±
¡°What are you talking about?¡±
¡°Looks like a gained a few in height and in muscle. You look healthier than last time, although a bit pale. Now what¡¯s wrong, is it the skin?¡±
¡°It¡¯s not the skin, it¡¯s the other stuff that¡¯s the issue. I don¡¯t know what happened I just sort of ended up this way recently (I can¡¯t tell him over night) without working out or anything and I was wondering if you could check me out. Also, I have a pretty big headache and I just feel there¡¯s something wrong with me.¡±
¡°Really now? Well I suppose it could be a late growth spurt caused by a hormone imbalance, but that isn¡¯t a cause for concern. As for the headache I think I know what it is.¡±
¡°What?¡±
I could see the seriousness in his eyes as he looked at me. He must have noticed something wrong with me, right?
¡°You¡¯ve been drinking haven¡¯t you? I didn¡¯t notice it at first, but I can smell it in your breath.¡±
Damn.
¡°Um¡¡±
Oh God why this?
¡°Don¡¯t try to deny it Cimex. You know you shouldn¡¯t be drinking in the first place, you¡¯re a minor. It¡¯s bad for your body and mind. It can cause liver and kidney damage, as well as harm your brain development and cause damage to your digestive system. I don¡¯t know why you¡¯re are doing this, but I recommend you to stop. Hangovers at your age are not a good thing and I don¡¯t want you to get addicted. If you want, I can sign you up for a local AA meeting where you can go find help.¡±
¡°No Doc, that¡¯s not why I am here. I just felt there was something wrong and was wondering if you could check it.¡±
¡°Ok then, what do you feel?¡±
¡°That¡¯s what I want you to tell me Doc.¡±
¡°That¡¯s not very helpful. Let¡¯s just do a regular check-up since your do for one anyways. We¡¯ll skip the blood tests since the alcohol will mess those up.¡±
¡°Ok that sounds good.¡±
¡°Lets start with checking your heartbeat, would you mind lifting up you shirt and taking deep breaths?¡±
¡°No problem.¡±
I did as he told and he placed the cold disk of the stethoscope against my skin. For some reason I didn¡¯t react to the cold. I could feel it was very cold, but I didn¡¯t feel good nor bad. I could see the doctor¡¯s brows scrunch up as he listened.
¡°That¡¯s strange.¡±

¡°I can¡¯t hear your heartbeat. Maybe there¡¯s something wrong with the stethoscope.¡±
He used it on himself, but that only make his reaction worse.
¡°No that¡¯s not it, it works fine. Wait her for a sec.¡±
Soon after the doctor came back with the blood pressure machine. I stuck my arm in and he started to pump.
¡°What the¡ Impossible. How?¡±
¡°What¡¯s going on?¡±
¡°Your pressure is so low I don¡¯t think it¡¯s even reading.¡±
¡°That¡¯s not good is it?¡±
¡°Of course it isn¡¯t! Stay here.¡±
The doctor left in a panic. I was starting to get nervous. I don¡¯t have a heartbeat, I don¡¯t have blood pressure, what the fuck! When he returned this time he had a needle.
¡°I know I said we are going to skip the blood work, but I need to try this out.¡±
¡°Um, ok.¡±
He stuck the needle in my arm and I didn¡¯t have to be a doctor to see the issue, there was no blood coming out. He tried a few more times and still nothing. Stranger still I didn¡¯t feel any pain. It was like with the stethoscope, I could feel it, but it wasn¡¯t enough to force a reaction.
¡°Open you mouth.¡±
¡°Ok.¡±
He took a single glance and his serious face became grave.
¡°Listen to me, we have to get you to a hospital. I think you have major internal bleeding. Your gums and skin are pale, you aren¡¯t bleeding and you heartbeat is so faint I can¡¯t hear it. I don¡¯t even know how your still alive. Just lie down and rest I¡¯ll call the ambulance.¡±
Not good, not good! This was going south really fast, I need to get out now.
¡°You know what doc? On second thought I feel fine now. Just forget about this and I¡¯ll be on my way out.¡±
¡°But your dying!¡±
¡°No I¡¯m not, I¡¯m leaving. Now. Goodbye.¡±
I didn¡¯t wait for a response and got out asap. As soon as I was out the door I ran home. I rushed inside and locked the door. This was fucking scaring me. I just ran home yet I haven¡¯t broken a sweat and my heartbeat isn¡¯t pounding at all. Am I really dying? No that doesn¡¯t make sense at all. I feel fine, a bit strange, but fine. My body feels fine for the most part.
I feel mentally tired and the headache isn¡¯t helping. I crawl into bed and cover myself with my blanket. I close my eyes and go to sleep. Hopefully I wake up and this was all just a nightmare, hopefully.
I am surrounded by a shroud of darkness. I can¡¯t see anything, even myself. In the distance I hear sounds akin to soft breezes and whispers. After an indeterminate amount of time I hear a voice in front of me.
¡°Your metamorphosis has gone well Cimex. We are pleased to see you.¡±
The voice sounded strange. It was as if multiple being are speaking in unison. Their voices had a certain ring to it, the words both powerful and profound to my ears. I muster the courage to speak.
¡°Who are you all? What is this?¡±
¡°That doesn¡¯t matter Cimex. What we are shouldn¡¯t concern you. What should concern you is what you will become. We are both your curse and your salvation, an opportunity no one in this realm has. Whether you choose to accept it or not doesn¡¯t matter. It is inside you and our powers are now part of you. Nuture them well. This is our final message.¡±
At that moment I had an epiphany. A multitude of wondrous ideas and concepts rushed into my minds. Their profundity able to drive even the greatest man insane. Spells and incantations exploded outward. My mind squealing in pain as a third eye was torn open inside my soul. I already knew what this was thanks to the information, it was my mana sense, it allowed me to tap into the power in all things around me, it was beautiful, inspirational, electrifying.
¡°Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahaha!¡±
I felt such joy I was laughing like a crazed man with no stop in sight. As the wave of painful euphoria settled down my mind cleared, I was scared. As those powers had passed through me, many thoughts shot through my head, none of them good. I felt the urge to kill, to dominate, to conquer, to destroy. Until moments ago, these thoughts seemed so natural to me, as if I was entitled to do as I pleased with the world knowing it was nothing more than my plaything. That wasn¡¯t me. I¡¯m no angel, but neither am I a psychotic killer. What was that inside of me?
My eyes open, the light of the sun coming into view. This time I wasn¡¯t in a puddle of sweat. I feel strangely calm as the memories of my dream flow into me. Around me I see layers of mist that both do and don¡¯t exist. Different strands of different colors mix in with each other, each representing an element. That means my dream was real, either that or I¡¯ve gone completely insane.
As I exit my room I see a concentration on black strands on the floor in the shape of a human. I suddenly remembered that the reason this apartment was so cheap was because the last tenant was killed here. Lucky me.
All I had to do was reach out with my mana sense and will the strands to come to me. Like serpents attracted to prey they approached me and entered my body. Inspecting myself with the mana sense I could see them flow through me into my chest, entering a five-colored vortex. The vortex was consuming the energy like a ravenous beast.
Throughout this ordeal I was eerily calm. I no longer feared this power because it just felt so natural, like breathing. It was part of me now and I had already subconsciously accepted it.
I still felt a lot of knowledge was sealed to me, hidden in the recesses of my mind. These seals kept me from accessing the information. I wasn¡¯t upset because I could feel that the reason was that I was incapable of bearing it yet. I still had no deep knowledge of spells or incantations, but what I did know was methods of purification.
If I wanted to wield these powers, I would have to go through five cycles of purification, one for each energy. It would mold my mortal body into a worthy vessel. I don¡¯t know who the voices are, but they left a very well-planned guide to which order I should purify in order to have the least issues.
What I learned was that the changes to my body from yesterday are just a push in the right direction when it came to the first purification. That purification of death would kill me in the physical realm, making me no longer rely on bodily functions to live, but rather become an ethereal being. My body would be nothing more than a puppet to my soul, nurtured and maintained by mana. I would never have to fear a mortal death, only other beings capable of affecting the soul could give me true fatal wound.
Once complete next would come the purification of decay, deception, toxicity and disease. I still didn¡¯t know what these next purifications entailed, the knowledge still hidden away from me. What I did know was that once these purifications became complete, I could finally gain access to my first powers.
Thinking about it I was accepting this way to easily, I must be insane, but if this is what insanity is. I LOVE IT.
Ch 3: Goodbye Father
I¡¯m currently standing in front of the local cemetery, it seemed like the most likely place to contain strands of death energy. Next to the gates there was a security guard doing something on his phone, probably just slacking off. Like, come on man, at least try to look like you are doing your job. He doesn¡¯t even react when I walk passed him, which is good for me.
Inside I am very disappointed. There is barely any energy of death around. What is going on? This whole place is full of bodies how can there be no death energy? I use my magic sense to analyze my surroundings in greater detail and I notice a pattern. The graves that are only 1-2 years still have a bit of death energy, the newer the better. The graves past that are almost completely covered in the energy of decay up till around 10-15 years. Around that point the decay ends and it naturally dissipates into normal ambient mana. At least I now know where to find decay for when I will need it.
With this newfound discovery I stay in the most recent grave sites. I leisurely stroll around in order to not cause suspicion as I reach out with my mana sense. The strands of energy are attracted to me like serpents just as before and are consumed by the vortex in my chest. As I get closer and closer to the newest grave sites, the saturation in my surroundings rises exponentially. It seems that death is strongest before the start of decay.
Ahead I see a group of people surrounding a casket suspended over its hole, looks like a family mourning their loved one. Absolutely wonderful. I''ll just slowly walk by and take as much energy as I can, a fresh body must have much more than these graves. With a plan in mind I approach the group as inconspicuously as I can. I become slightly worried when I see multiple people from the group loock over at me with a strange look on their face. As I get close a woman speaks out to me.
¡°Excuse me, are you Daren?¡±
Am I who? I have no idea what this lady is on about, but it seems I can take advantage of the situations. It looks like they mistook me for another.
¡°Yes I am.¡±
The woman¡¯s eyes tear up as she calls me over. Most of the other people still look at me curiously, but their expressions became a bit softer.
¡°Daren it''s so good to finally meet you. I know you and your father didn¡¯t get along, but I want you to know he was truly sorry for what he did to you and your mother. I didn¡¯t think you would actually come since you never responded back to any of our contacts, but thank you doing so. I know your father would be very happy to know you came in the end.¡±
¡°I believe so.¡±
Thank god this lady talks so much. I now know what the hell is going on. Seems this guy did something in the past to his family and left. It¡¯s pretty obvious Daren doesn¡¯t want anything to do with his dad and didn¡¯t come, so it looks like I¡¯m covered. Hahaha. I¡¯ll just take advantage for now and get close to the body.
As I approach the people introduce themselves. They are mostly aunts, uncles and cousins from ¡°my¡± fathers'' side of family, the rest are just family friends and acquaintances. There are so many I don¡¯t bother to remember most of their names. The woman who called me over was ¡°my¡± aunt Grace, next to her was her husband Josh. As for ¡°my¡± uncle his name was Victor and he was ¡°my¡± father¡¯s step brother. I don¡¯t care about memorizing the rest.
Aunt Grace speaks to me.
¡°We were just about to finish and lower your father¡¯s casket, but I¡¯m sure he would appreciate it if you said some final words.¡±
Fuck, this is going to be awkward. At least Daren doesn¡¯t like his dad much so I can probably get through this with a straight apathetic face.
¡°I¡¯m okay with that.¡±
Grace leads me to the front of the casket facing the group of people. Before I begin, I close my eyes and clear my mind. To everyone it looks like I¡¯m preparing to speak, but I''m actually consuming as much death energy as I can. The saturation of death energy in the body is unlike anything else I have experienced before now. The boost the seed gem had given me had only completed about half of my first purification of death. With all the energy of death I had absorbed since then I was now just about three quarters done. As I finish absorbing the energy, I open my eyes and start speaking.
¡°In all honesty I did not expect to say a speech when I came here today so I apologize in advance if my words do not sound well. As many of you here know me and my father did not have the best relationship. The things he did in the past caused us to grow apart for a long time. I cannot say I forgive him for his actions, but I respect his wishes to attend his burial. He may not have been the best man, but he was my father and that connection will always connect us together. Thank you for your time.¡±This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.
As I walk away, I look towards the casket and speak.
¡°Goodbye father.¡±
I need to get out of here as quick as possible before I fuck up my impersonation. As I try to leave Grace speaks out to me again.
¡°Daren, wait!¡±
I look towards her.
¡°What is it? I¡¯m about to leave.¡±
¡°Can¡¯t you stay till the end of the burial.¡±
¡°No, I have other business to attend to. I just came to say my final goodbye.¡±
She takes a piece of paper and a pen out from her purse and quickly jots something down before handing it to me.
¡°Take this, it¡¯s my address. Your father still has something he wanted to pass down to you after his death. I¡¯ve been safekeeping it for a long time, but it belongs to you.¡±
I take the slip of paper.
¡°Thank you, aunt Grace. I¡¯ll see if I can stop by another time to retrieve it.¡±
My words sounded cold and detached, but it sounds perfect considering what I know of Daren¡¯s family relations. I don¡¯t stay for a moment longer and I make my leave.
I lay on my bed as I do introspection with my mana sense. The vortex in my body has become noticeably larger and more powerful. When I try to look into it, it consumes my mana sense before I can see what¡¯s going on. I still can¡¯t access any energy or magic, but that doesn¡¯t mean I¡¯m not experiencing anything. I noticed my body has started to acquire a strange aura. With great focus I can detect faint traces of death energy.
I open my eyes and head towards the mirror in my bathroom. My skin, gums and lips look paler than before and my body temperature is lower as well. I still can¡¯t feel my heartbeat and I breath on reflex not necessity. If I didn¡¯t move, I would easily be mistaken for a corpse.
Mistaken for a corpse.
Mistaken.
For
Corpse.
THAT¡¯S FUCKEN BRILLIANT!!!
I can fake being a corpse and be admitted into a morgue. That place is full of fresh bodies and will be teeming with death energy. But... No, I¡¯m an idiot. If I become a corpse that means I will fake my own death. Even If I don¡¯t carry anything to be identified with, they will still take pictures and when I escape my face will be known as that of the missing corpse.
That still doesn¡¯t mean I have to give up on the morgue. Even if I can¡¯t enter as a corpse, I should at least be able to find a job perhaps. There isn¡¯t much to do at the garden during the weekend so finding another job won¡¯t really interfere.
Within a few hours online I find the perfect morgue, it¡¯s only 15 minutes away by bus. The position states they need a part time custodian for the night shift, no experience required. I immediately apply before going to bed.
I made another discovery, turn out my body doesn¡¯t need to sleep anymore. I really am like a corpse. Without anything better to do I just turn on the TV. The late-night news should be starting around this time.
¡°Hello, this is channel 6 news anchor Nicole Anderson bringing you the biggest news of the day. Around 7 a.m. this morning a water line ruptured downtown causing major closures...¡±
Boring.
¡°Mayor Alejandro has been arrested due to corruption scandal involving receiving illegal campaign funds from the cartel.¡±
That¡¯s interesting.
¡°The mayor has denied all claims and has denied any of the media¡¯s attempts to contact him. If the claims are true then the mayor received money from a crime organization that contributes to the drug problem the mayor has campaigned against, as well as receiving money from other sources such as prostitution, human smuggling and assassinations.¡±
Looks like this mayor¡¯s fucked. Serves him right, he didn¡¯t accomplish any of the shit he promised anyway.
¡°Our next story is about a mass suicide today off the coast of our local beaches. The group claiming to have led to this call themselves The New Dawn. These bunch of crazed lunatics claims their mass sacrifice was to call forwards their messiah to this world through sacrifice. Multiple members have been arrested so far, but the leadership and exact numbers of members still remain unknown.¡±
Well damn, that¡¯s crazy. Lunatics be doing some crazy shit. Well who am I to judge, I¡¯m literally am seeking invisible death energy to feed to the vortex in my body. Who knows, maybe their messiah exists and will appear one day.
I turn off the TV before they start doing the filler stories like animal of the week or special teens. If I wanted to see feel good shit I wouldn¡¯t be watching the news. The news should only say stuff I should be watching out for. At least that¡¯s my opinion.
I remember the paper ¡°my¡± aunt Grace gave me so I grab it and open it up. Inside are the words 312 South Garmund Blvd, looks like this is her address. I¡¯m not stupid enough to just appear immediately. I¡¯ll wait a few days and stake out the place to see if the real Daren ever comes by. If not then I¡¯ll come by and see what ¡°my¡± father left me.
Thinking about my actions I feel a little bit dirty inside. When did my moral become so twisted that I would actually place on committing fraud and inherit someone else¡¯s things? Am I really such a bad person or is this the influence of the power and energy inside me? I can¡¯t say for sure, but it feels natural so I''ll go with it for now. Afterall, it¡¯s not like as if it¡¯s making me kill someone. A few moral compromises aren¡¯t much to pay for what the future has in store. Even if I can¡¯t access any of the abilities yet, I can sense all the goodies behind the curtain.
As for when I''ll acquire them?
It¡¯s only a matter of TIME...
