《Harry Potter: and the Book Dweller》
Prologue, Chapter One
Prologue
In a dark library, the midnight hour now struck. A silvery serpentine smoke shining brightly in the dark midnight gloom, was moving stealthily between the stacks. The thing is known as a "Book Dweller" they are born when a person passes away who loves the written word. They are mostly made up of the condensed imagination and the memories of an avid reader or writer. This one belonged to a seventeen year old girl who passed away suddenly. The book dweller can not survive long in our world and because of this seek out a book world to take up residence. Because they retain a great deal of their former selves memories the majority of them find a book they are familiar with. This one is no exception. She slivers her way through the air between the stacks until she finds the book she is searching for. The book is the first of the harry potter series of books "Harry potter and the philosopher''s stone". As she enters the book, the darkened library flashes a brilliant light as the book begins to glow. After the light settles down she has now made this book here new body. She will live out her life inside the book now having taking over the mind of a person she deems suitable.
Chapter One
The girl wakes up in the body of a small child. When a book dweller takes over the body of a character their consciousness combines and almost becomes a composite of both people. They retain the memories of their prior existence as a book dweller while simultaneously retaining any memories and emotional responses of the character they have become. The book dweller had been successful and became a character known as Penelope Partridge. The character is as far away from a main character as you could possibly get. She is what one would call an extra if it was in a film or TV. She is just there in the background unknown by the main characters, so unknown in fact that she is destined to die in the final book unnamed as one of the fallen fifty with no main character or reader to mourn her death. Penelope is a half blood witch her Father being a wizard by the name of Peter, her mother sadly was killed by death eater not long after birth for simply being a Muggle. Their family almost entirely has curly brown hair and brown eyes. For the most part though Penelope looks more like her deceased mother with her slender face and button nose. Penny gets out of bed and walks down stairs. Her Father is already awake and reading the Daily Prophet. On the front page is a story about an infestation of pixies that caused havoc in a specific ministry office. Penny says "good morning" to her Father as he looks up from his paper. His eyes seem to shine as he looks at his adorable daughter "Good morning dear. Did you sleep well?" he asked. The book dweller has assumed all of Penny''s memories so she is more than familiar with the people Penny knew. She replies "Yes Father, looks like you have a busy day ahead of you" as she gestures to the front page. Her Father sighs. He is a low-level ministry employee that the muggles would realistically call a glorified janitor. He is in charge of the elf elves that deal with the day-to-day chores that keep the ministry building clean. "Yeah it seems some dope had brought in a breed of pixie from america which is a highly invasive species. lets just hope it doesn''t get out into the wild otherwise the Cornish pixies may end up in conflict with them and it may become visible to Muggles". Her Father waved his wand as Penny sat down. A dish in the cupboard floated over and placed itself before Penny. The saucepan from the kitchen floated by and began pouring a strange purple coloured porridge into her dish. Penny picked up her spoon and began eating. It was a sweet tasting but otherwise inexpensive breakfast that is common in families that are not That well off in the Wizarding world. With every spoonful of porridge Penny felt a heat that spread from her stomach all the way to her fingers and toes. Before long the heat began to be exhaled out of her nose as flames almost like she was a dragon. It is because of this effect that the box the porridge comes in has the image of a Norwegian ridge-back dragon. The porridge certainly wakes one up is what Penny though. As she continued eating her breakfast an own flew in through the window. Its beautiful brown feathers looked so soft Penny almost stroked it on impulse. The owl was carrying an envelope addressed to.
"Miss Penelope Partridge
34 Oakville gardens

It was written in beautiful green ink with amazing penmanship. Penny quickly tore open the wax seal to quickly read

Penny was jumping for joy. She was well aware she would get into Hogwarts as she chose taking over this character specifically for this reason but the joy of actually getting the letter was real none the less. Her Father was beaming with pride. He immediately set to write their reply and send it out immediately. The two were so excited they bounced around the table. Penny''s Father immediately made plans to take Penny to Diagon alley on his free day from work in order to purchase her supplies.
The day came on the weekend when Penny and her Father traveled via Floo Powder to leaky cauldron. The dark and ancient looking building was filled with people in robes of various colours. Her Father noticed a large man with a huge bushy beard and unkempt hair "Hello Hagrid" he said to the enormous and intimidating man. As soon as the person eyes fell upon them though the intimidating air was almost like a lie. He smiled behind his huge beard and his face conveyed a kindness at odds with the previous intimidating aura. "Hello there Pete, haven''t seen you in ages" Hagrid cheerfully spoke before finishing off his drink in one gulp. "This must be li''l'' Penny. Jeez I haven'' seen you since you were a baby" Hagrid began patting her head in a friendly enough manner but with his size and strength Penny struggle to not fall over. "That''s right Hagrid, She''s just been accepted into Hogwarts we''re on our way to buy her school supplies" her Father said proudly. Hagrid smiled even brighter after hearing that, He began rummaging in his coat pocket at the news. "Is that so, Guess the li''l'' lady will need a present of some kind as a congratulations" Hagrid pulled out a tiny little egg that seemed like a grain of rice in Hagrids huge hand. He then handed it over to Penny, the egg was a strange mixture of colours that reflected almost like a rainbow. "Keep that warm and it should hatch by the time your ready to start at school I reckon" said Hagrid. Her Father smiled wryly as he was more than aware of Hagrid''s penchant for strange and exotic animals. "Hope it''s nothing too dangerous" said Peter. Hagrid chuckles his huge shoulder shaking up and down as he laughs "Nah nothin'' dangerous Pete, Just a rare bird egg I got from a fella down the pub las'' week". Pete took Hagrid at his word and seems relieved, as far as Hagrid goes that seems to be as harmless as he could get. Penny held the egg gently to her chest with a huge smile "Thank you Hagrid" she said. Hagrid seemed to be rather happy but embarrassed as he began scratching his main of unkempt hair. "No worries just take care o'' it okay. Those birds can take up t'' several years t'' hatch" Hagrid said. After a little more talk a small owl delivered a letter to Hagrid. Hagrid gave the small owl a treat and retrieved the letter. Hagrid''s eyes grew wide as he read it followed by an angry "bloody stupid Dursley''s". Sorry Pete can''t stop to talk Dumbledore just gave me an important job to do, I have to go pick someone up". They said their goodbyes as Hagrid left.
Penny and her Father made their way into Diagon alley. Penny watched as people were busily moving here and there. The first thing they did was make their way to the Wizarding bank called Gringotts. Penny had been here a few times with her Father before but that still didn''t stop he being in awe of her surroundings. The room was made of completely white marble that seemed to reflect the light and make the already large place seem even larger. The large desks that the tiny goblins sat behind seemed to be more about goblin superiority and looking down at their customers rather than functionality. Peter took out a key and asked to be taken to his vault. A small little goblin with pale skin and big ears that curl at the end and a pointy crooked nose took them to the side. Unlike the vaults of famous wizarding families or those of the wealthy the Partridge vault is only a small room that doesn''t even require going on the cable car system. "Vault number 24" the squeaky little voice of the goblin said. Peter handed his key over to the goblin who then opened the vault for him. Inside was a small pile of silver coins a slightly larger pile of bronze coins and five or six golden coins. This is the entire savings of her Father who has worked tirelessly since her Mother was killed to provide for his daughter. Peter earns a little less than someone like Arthur Weasley but as his expenses are far lower only having to support himself and his only daughter he has managed to save up a moderate amount of money. Penny felt a degree of pride in her Father. Peter took the six gold coin known as a Galleon, a handful of the silver Sickles and some of the bronze coins for good measure. They then left the vault behind after making sure it was locked and the goblin gave them the key back. After exiting the bank the first thing they did was go and get Penny measured for her robes. The place they went to was none other than "Madam Malkin''s Robes for All Occasions". The owner is a short witch dressed in mauve snow-white hair. "Welcome" she said with a friendly air than makes you feel as though you just walked home. The witch walks over and talks to Peter for a while who explains that his daughter is due to start at Hogwarts so requires her robes. Madam Malkin urges Penny to stand still while she takes several measurements. The woman worked with such skill that Penny was awestruck. Peter handed over the required payment and received his change in the form of several bronze coins known as a Knut. Madam Malkin proceeded to get to work immediately after writing all the measurements down. She urged Peter and Penny to come back a little while later for the completed set.Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Peter then walked his daughter over to Ollivanders the greatest wand maker in Britain. The shop had an almost reverential feel to it. The door rang as they entered as the elderly man poked his head around from behind the counter. "Ah Peter Partridge, 12" holly unicorn hair. Nice to see you again. and to what do I owe the pleasure". He asked even though he is well aware. Peter explained that its his daughter who needs a wand due to being accepted into Hogwarts. Ollivander stared knowingly at the small girl who was busily looking around intrigued by everything. Penny seemed to be intensely interested in wands and their craftsmanship. She was looking at all the display wands trying to guess their materials. "Are you a fan of wands Miss Partridge?" said Ollivander as his voice no louder than a whisper brought her back to her senses. Penny nodded "I read a book once about simple wand maintenance and have been intrigued ever since". Ollivander seemed to be rather happy with her response. He loves the mysteries and intricacies of wand-lore and it seems he has found a kindred spirit. "Very well then Miss Partridge. Lets see what wand suits you shall we. But I must tell you the wand chooses the witch or wizard not the other way around". Penny nods in agreement. Ollivander disappears behind the counter. He stands on a step-ladder to reach for a wand at the very top of one set of stacks. "Lets see here 10" oak and unicorn hair" Ollivander hands over the wand. Penny gives it a wave and several stacks are knocked over "nope" said Ollivander as he hurriedly took the wand back. He then goes over to another stack of wands. The one he brings over is recognized immediately by Penny. " 11" holly and phoenix feather" Ollivander handed this wand over, as soon as it was in Penny''s hands it almost jumped right out on its own accord. Penny didn''t take it personally though as she knew it was waiting for Harry the main character of the book she was dwelling in. A book dweller could overwrite the story and make certain things happen to their will but that has unexpected consequences and can destabilize the book world they choose to live in and can potentially cause harm to the book dweller. Penny deciding to let it go and keep going until she finds the wand that the unknown Penny was supposed to find. The people in the shop kept going for what felt like forever. Ollivanders personal motto of finding the perfect wand for the witch or wizard was being highly tested on this day. Finally a flash of inspiration dawns upon Ollivanders face. "Well then maybe it''s not a wand of my making you require" he says before shuffling off to the back room. When he comes back he is holding a beautifully carved wand. "A friend of mine from america sent me this one as a trade, since I have learned a lot about it I would be willing to give it to you. It is 11" made of snake-wood tree and has a horned serpent horn core". No soon as Penny held the wand it sent a warm sparking feeling throughout her hand and it felt as though all the magic power locked within her was set free. Ollivander looked pleased with the result and said "That wand was made by the wand smiths at Ilvermorny. A friend of mine who apprenticed with me under my Father made that wand". Penny was in awe at the wand she was holding it felt as though it was perfectly made for her. Her fingers gently grasped it as she held it up to the light enjoying every small carving along its handle. It almost looked scale like in its design. Peter having gotten up goes over the payment of the wand. As every Ollivander wand costs no less than seven Galleons obviously Peter not having enough to buy it outright has to write his Gringotts account down and let Ollivander make a mold of his key. By doing this Peter will pay back Ollivander over several installments with a slight interest. Luckily Hogwarts offers a voucher for its poorer students that pays a percentage of the cost so it doesn''t cost as much as it would. In fact they offer two types of voucher one that covers a percentage and another that pays it outright. Voldemort having no money of his own had his wand purchased in this method. This is the common way most wizards pay for their wands who aren''t from rich families. The only other alternative is going to a shop that sells second-hand wands but students who have to resort to such rarely get satisfactory results. Penny and her Father having completed the task of finding her wand head out after saying their goodbyes to Mr Ollivander.
The next stop was at Flourish and Blotts where they purchase her required reading material for the upcoming term. Luckily no real issues happened in there and they got the books at a discount given they owe her Father a favour for some reason. They got in and out in pretty quick time giving their thanks as they exited. Following the required materials they brought the equipment and ingredients for potions class and the rest of her school needs such as telescope and scales. Peter seemed to know all the places they could purchase most the stuff needed on the cheap or second-hand but it didn''t seem to matter to Penny. Because of this the two finished up relatively quickly. They decided to stop for something to eat at Rosa Lee Teabag the well-known tea house. It was a bit expensive but as a treat for his daughter Peter took them in. They had a few confectionaries and some tea as they enjoyed a little bit of rest. Peter then said he had to pop into the junk shop as he heard about something in there from a friend at work. Knowing it wouldn''t be all that entertaining so he gave Penny a few Knut''s and a Sickle and told her she could go buy herself something. Just before separating though he warned her "don''t go down Nocturn alley though okay sweetheart" Penny nodded and headed into the second hand bookshop. Penny decides to buy second hand books that are usually for the later years at Hogwarts. She buys a rather worn out and ragged Standard Book of Spells volume two, three, and four. Penny being an avid reader since she was a child combined with a book dwellers ability to instantly memorize anything they read at once makes learning these convinces relatively easy. Penny to also pick up a few spell, charm, and counter curse books that aren''t on the school reading list. She has done this because with the book dwellers knowledge that she won''t survive the battle of Hogwarts unless she prepares herself. She intends to learn enough to become powerful enough to ensure her own survival. Unlike if a Book dweller uses their power to overwrite the plot, if they make small innocuous changes it will not cause their new book world to fall to ruin and won''t cause any harm to themselves. Finishing up buying what she wanted to buy she headed back to meet up with her Father who it would seem had purchased an old rusted door knocker in the shape of a lion. As Penny looked closer she could see the eyes of the door knocker moving. It seems her Father plans on placing this on the door of their modest home. Now that everything has been taken care of the two head home for the evening.
The Home of Penny and her Father is a small two bedroom house built as a semi-detached. The home is in a part of west Sussex that is occupied completely by wizards. Because of this some houses have incredibly bright and unusual paint jobs. There is even one with a yellow polka dot pattern painted. Penny and her Father''s home is a relatively subdued greenish colour in comparison. The most distinguishing characteristic would be the almost Gothic style decorations adorning the house. This seems to stem from her Father''s sense of ascetic. No doubt the new enchanted door knocker is purchased to further enhance the style that her Father is going for. The two enter their home and Peter immediately begins cleaning up the rusted door knocker while Penny begins reading the first edition of the Standard Book of Spells. With just a few glances over each page Penny was committing each word to memory. As soon as her Father calls her for her evening meal Penny has already memorized the first quarter of all the spells in the first volume of standard book of spells. The house has many second-hand books in her Fathers collection it would seem that he was a Ravenclaw during his time in Hogwarts and passed up on a lucrative job post graduation working for a pure-blood supremacist wizard because he was initially dating Penny''s none magical Mother. Because of that wizards influence her Father has failed to find work that reflect his skills and intelligence to this day but he seems to not care all that much given how much he doted on his daughter. The meal the two shared was relatively peaceful with the two talking about spells that appear within the first standard book of spells. Peter gave his daughter some helpful hints and tips including a few alterations he personally discovered that increase the effects of certain spells. Peter had several spell books from his time at Hogwarts that he altered in much the same way Snape did with his potions books. Peter decides to give these to his precious daughter in order to encourage her love of spell craft. The two quietly cleaned away their washed dishes after their meal both deep in though. Peter was thinking how lonely the house will become when Penny heads off to Hogwarts, and Penny was contemplating the future of the character and how she intends to avoid the fate of dying unknown.
Chapter 2
Chapter Two
Time moved on and the day finally arrived. Penny and her Father Peter headed to kings cross station for his daughter to board the Hogwarts express. They moved through the station Peter pushing the trolley that hold his daughters luggage. Penny was looking around curiously at all the none magical people going about their lives oblivious to the hustle and bustle that this day brings to the wizarding community in the area. After walking for a while with purpose Peter leads them directly to platform 9 and 3/4''s. The pair look at the wall between platforms Penny brimming with excitement. The duo grab hold of the trolley together and with a count of one two three begin running towards the wall. No soon as they come in contact with the wall does their surrounding begin to change. They are now on a Victorian era looking platform complete with an old fashioned steam train painted in an eye catching shade of red. The smoke stack of the train is billowing smoke as though proudly announcing its presence. There are many other wizarding families rushing about here and there. The most eye catching is a family of red heads and a little boy with a thin build and messy black hair and striking green eyes being ushered on the train by a Witch who seems more than adapt at handling such a rag tag group of young witches and wizards. Peter helps Penny load her luggage onto the train and begins to tear up. It is obvious being separated from his beloved daughter is going to be harder on him than it is on her. Penny hugs her dad to offer him some moral support. The two stood there on the platform in that embrace for what seems like forever. The witches and wizards seem to part around them like the sea to Moses. The two not speaking that hug seemingly saying all that needed to be said. Peter deciding he cant hold his daughter back any longer simply nods at Penny after he finally lets her go. Penny returns the nod and makes her way towards the train.
The train was filled with excitable children but Penny simply makes her way to a compartment that is yet to be filled. She sits down and opens up her copy of Hogwarts A History. She has already read the majority of the books she purchased that day at Diagon alley leaving only the most innocuous of books remaining. As she quietly sits in the compartment reading the door is opened and a young witch and wizard ask if its okay to join her inside. She nods quietly in agreement not one to talk a great deal to people she doesn''t already know. The two introduce themselves they appear to be first year students too. The boy with his strikingly handsome features that if one would say was carved by the greatest artist to represent beauty one would be inclined to agree. He has a dirty blonde hair colour that is neatly parted to the side. Everything about his appearance seems to be intricately well maintained. The Witch beside him however couldn''t be any more opposed if she tried. Her frizzy black hair was messy and unkempt her robes creased and somehow already stained. Not to mention her clothing looking as though she had slept in them. They hurriedly introduced themselves, his name was Drew Harper and she was Agnes Simpson. Not long after they took their seats did the train begin to move. The three waved out of the window at their respective families before they got to talking any more. It would seem that Drew is a muggle-born Wizard whose parents own a fashionable jewelry store in London. While Agnes is from a pure-blood family, her Mother and Father both work for the Ministry in some capacity or other. Somehow the two have known each other since childhood when Agnes saw Drew performing magic by himself. Drew didn''t know what he was doing was magic was until Agnes explained to him, through her descriptions he learned about the wizarding world. Because of that the two grew close and weren''t shocked when both of them were accepted to Hogwarts. The two both seated opposite Penny and began chatting and discussing what they expect Hogwarts to be like. The three seemed incredibly intelligent for children their age if not just a little bit odd in their own ways Agnes would constantly say the first thing that popped into her head, while Drew seemed to be a person of very few words at all. But once the subject of Muggle comic books was brought up you couldn''t keep him quiet. Penny watched in amazement as the two people argued over something she had not idea about. The carriage was filled with who was better doctor strange or doctor fate. Their heated debate eventually turned the discussion to Spell craft. Given how Penny had memorized everything due to be taught over the first year at Hogwarts and a lot of what is to be taught in the higher years as well the two were incredibly impressed by her knowledge. As time went on they all became less formal. They laughed and joked together before the door was swung open and a girl with frizzy brown hair and large teeth asked if they had seen a missing toad. She looked disappointing to be told no sighed and headed off without another word to look in some over compartments. The three laughed at how quickly she blew in and out like a hurricane with legs.
When the train arrived they were ushered off in a steady well ordered line. The children were all talking and excited it took a great deal of care by the staff to keep the students in line. There were the odd straggler here and there that was distracted by something but for the most part everyone was staying in line. Penny watched as some recognizable faces were there. These bound to become the main characters or at least the most well known ones. Her eyes fell upon a small child with bright blond almost silver hair. he had a smug expression on his face. She found it funny how such a small child could have such an entitled atmosphere. This was obviously Draco Malfoy, the young wizard noticed her looking at him and gave a patronizing smirk in response. He obviously thought she recognized him due to his superior lineage. She turned her eyes away from him and continued to follow the rest of the students. Before long they were lead to a series of coaches that would take them to the great lake. The majority of children saw the coaches as moving by themselves but Penny could clearly see the spectral looking animal that pulled the coach, this bizarre animal is known as a Threstral. These creatures are thought to be a bad omen and are heavily associated with death. A witch or wizard not familiar with death could not see these creatures. The reason Penny did, is because she retains a strong memory of her Mothers death at the hands of the death eater. She was only young that night but distinctly remembers what happened. She will never forget the figure of the one who killed her Mother, His dark robes and death eater mask were covering his face as he was disguising his identity. She remembers him to be seemingly huge but is not sure if that is because she was so young and frightened at the time. The only thing she knew for certain was that he had been defeated by her Father after he arrived just after her Mother was killed. The wizard was called Mulciber Jr he was meant to have been Voldemort''s expert on curses. Penny remembers the dual between him and her Father as being something terribly frightening. Her Father was at a huge disadvantage of trying to protect Penny and was almost killed many times. Luckily Mulciber tried to use a curse on her Father that he was more than familiar with. It was a derivative of the Reducor curse Her Father had improved upon the original curse and made it far more frightening. The curse rebounded back on Mulciber and shattered his legs to pieces. Penny remember the huge thumping sound as the death eater landed face first on the floor. Peter had given far more control over what is to be blasted to pieces by focusing the blast power into a denser and denser area. Mulciber Jr was then handed over to the Ministry of Magic where he continues to rot in Azkaban. Agnes and Drew called out to Penny as she was lost in thought. The three were sat together in the coach that was swaying to and throw with them was a member of faculty, a rather pale man wearing a turban. Once Penny came back to her senses she apologized and said she was just lost in thought. The two let it go as they decided they didn''t yet know Penny enough to pry. The mood quickly returned to normal however. Penny then noticed that her wand was making a musical kind of sound that only she could hear. A wand with a horned serpent horn core is well known for warning their owner of danger. Penny looked at the Pale man with a turban more than aware that stuttering seemingly harmless professor Quirrell next to them was housing Voldemort in the back of his head that was covered in the turban. Luckily the weakened Voldemort lacking most of his powers was unable to read her mind with Legilimency and tell that their cover was blown. Penny decided to continue her quest for knowledge at Hogwarts and placed learning Occlumency as a priority. She decided it would be for the best to know how to close her mind off from people with the ability to read minds. The duo of Agnes and Drew however not knowing about the forth companion in the coach were chatting happily with Professor Quirrell who was explaining that he is returning from a sabbatical in Albania to resume teaching at Hogwarts. Agnes and Drew seemed to full of questions while Penny decided to sit quietly and listen. Eventually the coach arrived at the great lake. It was now beginning to get dark. The surface of the Great Lake seemed like a sheet of tinted black glass. The night sky reflected on its surface. Across from the great Lake they could now finally see Hogwarts. The majestic castle loomed over giving quite the impression. The children all entered a boat in their groups. Penny, Agnes, Drew, and Professor Quirrell all boarded. Each small boat held a lantern that in the dark of night seemed to be like fireflies traveling towards the castle. They finally crossed the great Lake and reached a cliff. Within the cliff was a curtain of ivy that hid a wide opening in the cliff face. "H...h. he. heads d. down" Professor Quirrell stammered. They ducked underneath and continued on until arriving at a sort of underground harbor. The students carefully made their way across the rocks and pebbles in two single file lines walked towards the castle. Hagrid who was checking on the boats Suddenly in a large booming voice that grabbed everyone''s attention " Oy, you there! is this your toad?" Hagrid yelled. A nervous looking boy cried out "Trevor!" as he reached out to receive the toad. All the students followed Hagrid as they walked up large stone steps before coming to a huge oak door. "W..www well I must be L... le. leaving you now students"said Quirrell. The trio said goodbye to the professor who rushed off towards the Great Hall.Unauthorized usage: this narrative is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings.
The door swung open with a humongous creaking noise. On the other side was a tall, black-haired witch in emerald-green robes She had a stern face that made it clear she was not somebody one should cross. "The Firs''- years Professor McGonagall" Said Hagrid. She looked at nodded "Thank you, Hagrid. I will take them from here. The Entrance hall was huge with imposing stone walls with torches flickering an golden-orange flame. There was a magnificent marble staircase facing them that heads towards the upper floors of the castle. They followed Professor McGonagall, the sounds of hundreds of chatting voices came from a doorway to the right. Professor McGonagall took the first years to a small empty chamber off of where the voices where coming from. All the students were fidgeting nervously and trying to look about. "Welcome to Hogwarts" said Professor McGonagall as she looked to make sure she had everyone''s attention. "The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because while you are here, your houses will be something like your family within Hogwarts. you will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common room. The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slyverin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are here at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honour. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever houses become yours". All the students attention was hung on every single word the Professor said. They each had the impression that not listening would not be looked well upon by this specific Professor. "The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting". The Professor''s gaze seemed to land on a few students who began to flatten their hair and re-organised their robes. "I shall return when we are ready for you. Please wait quietly" said Professor McGonagall before leaving the chamber. The students began to nervously talk about how they would be sorted, many speculating different methods. While they were talking though there was suddenly several startled students. Penny looked in the direction to see about twenty ghosts all streaming through the back wall. They were all pearly-white and slightly transparent all floating across the room without even giving the slightest attention to the first years. Several ghosts seemed to be arguing but most the students failed to notice what about as they were more shocked by the presence of actual ghosts. While their attention was taken by the ghosts Professor McGonagall returned and in a sharp voice "move along now, the Sorting Ceremony''s about to start". The ghosts hearing this began headed off. "Now form a line, and follow me" all the students followed her across the chamber through a pair of double doors into the Great Hall.
Chapter 3
Chapter Three
The students were led into the Great Hall and were looking around astonished at strange and splendid place. It was lit by thousands and thousands of candled floating in what appears to be a velvety dark sky. It appears as though the room is open to the elements, the twinkling stars dotting about on the ceiling catch Penny''s attention. She hears a young girl Whisper to someone else in a rather self import tone, "its bewitched to look like the night sky outside, I read about it in Hogwarts: A History". The students were led to the front of the Great Hall before the other students. There were four tables which were filled with golden plates dishes and goblets that reflect the candle light from above making the appear to glitter even more so than they would have done normally. At the top of the hall was a table where the teachers were sitting the teachers. Penny''s wand was once again making the song of warning in her head no doubt because of Quirrell and Voldemort''s close proximity. Professor McGonagall placed a four-legged stool in front of the first years. She then placed on top a rather old and ragged looking wizards hat. The hat was patched and frayed in several places and looked incredibly dirty. Everyone watched the hat in wonder. The first years all looking confused until it began to twitch. Suddenly a rip near the brim began to move and looked uncannily like a mouth, just when the first years thought it couldn''t have gotten stranger suddenly the hat began to sing
"Oh you may not think I''m pretty,
But don''t judge on what you see,
I''ll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me....."
The students were in awe of the singing hat. The first years were looking on in wonder and the children from the higher years seemed to be really getting into the spirit. Once the hat finally finished singing the whole Hall burst into riotous applause, the hat the bowed to each of the four tables that represent the four houses and became rather still again. Professor McGonagall stepped forward with a roll of parchment. "When I call your name, you will put the hat on and be sorted". The students suddenly began hardening their resolve, no doubt many of them already had an idea of what kind of house they wanted to be sorted into the only question is if it would go as they had hoped. "Abbot, Hannah!" McGonagall called and a pink faced girl with blonde pigtails came out of line stumbling towards the stool. She put the hat on and sat on the stool, the hat fell right below her eyes. After a single moment which seemed to stretch on for eternity the hat shouted "HUFFLEPUFF!" the table on the right began to cheer as the young girl headed over towards them beckoned over by the merrily cheering ghost. "Bones, Susan" called McGonagall. in a repeat of the previous the girl sat with the hat on as it began to call yet again "HUFFLEPUFF!" Susan hurried over to sit next to Hannah. The next person called was "Boot, Terry"
"RAVENCLAW!" yelled the hat. the second table from the left began to cheer this time. Terry headed over and began shaking the hands of several Ravenclaw students. This went on for several students some going to also Gryffindor some also going to Slyverin. Agnes and Drew were both sorted into Ravenclaw. As the final none main or side character to be sorted McGonagall called "Partridge, Penelope", Penny walked to the stool with none of the apprehension of some of the other children did. She sat with the hat covering her eyes like the others. In just a little while she could hear a voice talking coming from the hat. "Difficult quite brave you are, and a drive to work you have". The hat began to hum to itself before it continued "quite a strong desire for power and knowledge also". The hat and the Hall went quiet. In the original story Penny''s sorting wasn''t all that memorable as she is not a main character, but given that now she is a book dweller it has changed the makeup of Penny''s mind. Finally the hat seems to have made a decision "Aught to be RAVENCLAW!" Penny sighed in relief and headed towards her table. Penny sat and watched the continuation of the Sorting Ceremony which continued as she remembered it. Malfoy was proudly declared a Slytherin along with his friends. Harry Heroine and Ron were all called to Gryffindor''s table. Once the sorting was done The man in the center of the teachers table got to his feel. Everyone knew he is the headmaster Albus Dumbledore. He began to spread his arms wide as though to embrace everyone there before he began to speak. "Welcome, welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet, I would like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!, Thank you!" some of the new students didn''t know what to make of the headmaster but before they could dwell on it for more than a moment the empty dishes and plates and goblets began to fill with food and drink all by themselves. Everyone began to fill their stomachs after a busy day of travel and the new students were made to feel welcome by the rest of the students. Penny, Agnes and Drew were sitting happily filling their plates with all their favourite food. There was roast beef roast chicken, pork chops, steak, sausages bacon and just about any vegetable you could imagine. Penny a lover of Yorkshire puddings helped her self to multiple large ones filled them with vegetables and meat before smothering them with gravy. Everyone was happily eating and chatting causing the atmosphere in the Great Hall to feel almost festive. Penny who had now sated her hunger began watching the teachers table. Professor McGonagall was talking to Professor Dumbledore, Hagrid was happily drinking from his goblet. Professor Quirrell seemed to be trying to talk to the teacher with greasy black shoulder length hair and a crooked nose and sallow skin. "That''s Professor Snape" said one of the older Ravenclaws. "Best potions master in ages but got a temper like you wouldn''t believe" Penny Agnes and Drew all nod taking the implicit warning that was hidden within those words. They all knew as long as they stayed on his good side they could get by relatively easily in his classes. The fact he was described as the best potions master in ages also wasn''t light praise coming from a Ravenclaw and their thirst for knowledge. Snape obviously has a lot to offer a student who genuinely wants to learn which the Ravenclaws do. A little while after everyone had finished heir puddings the tables began to empty. Just as this happened Professor Dumbledore once again stood to address the students. "Ahem- just a few more words now we are all fed and watered. I have a few start-of-term notices to give you". Dumbledores bright blue eyes looked across the Great Hall. All the students other than the Slyverin table hanging on his every word. "First-years should note that the forest in the grounds is forbidden to all pupils. And a few of our older students would do well to remember that as well". Dumbledore and the Weasley twins locked eyes at this very moment. "I have also been asked by Mr Filch, the caretaker, to remind you all that no magic should be used between classes in the corridors". Most the first years at this point looked at the disheveled caretaker Mr Filch and his cat with its bright yellow eyes Mrs Norris. Professor Dumbledore continues on, "Quidditch trials will be held in the second week of term.Anyone interested in playing for their house teams should contact Madam Hooch, And finally I must tell you that this year, the third-floor corridor on the right-hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a very painful death". The students chatted for a moment of what this could possibly mean before the Professor interrupted their wild delusions and cried "and now, before we go to bed, let us sing the school song!" Dumbledore flicked his wand and flicked out a large golden ribbon that floated and twisted like a snake. "Everyone pick your favourite tune, and off we go" the schooled began bellowing out the school song in a cacophony of notes and tunes the majority of them out of tune and horrendous to the ears. This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author''s work.
After the song was finished by everyone only the Weasley twins were still singing slowly in a Funeral march type tune. Once they finally finished Dumbledore wiped the tears from his eyes and said "ah music, a magic beyond all we do here! And now, bedtime. Off you trot!" The Ravenclaw first years followed their prefect a girl by the name of Penelope Clearwater. Penny found it amusing that there is another Penelope in Ravenclaw. The students followed Penelope Clearwater to the west side of Hogwarts to the top of the spiral staircase. The door hold a bronze door knocker in the shape of an eagle. Penny remembers her dad and his recently brought door knocker and guessed he wanted something similar to this only it being a lion instead of an eagle. As the group drew closer to the door knocker it asked " What eight letter word can have a letter taken away and still makes a word. Take another letter away and it still makes a word. Keep on doing that until you have one letter left. What is the word?" The first year Ravenclaws stand and ponder for a moment. Penelope Clearwater answers immediately "The word is starting! If you take a letter away you have staring, then string, sting, sing, sin, in, and finally I" She looks as though it was only a simple matter and the door knocker responds "Correct!" before opening its doors for the student to enter the Ravenclaw common room. The common room is located at the top of the tallest tower in Hogwarts giving the Ravenclaws a splendidly open view of the grounds. The wide circular room with its arched windows allow in plenty of natural light and if furnished with comfortable looking chairs and tables. The rooms domes ceiling was painted to look like the night sky making the room seem even more airy. There are bookcases filled with many types of books which makes Penny incredible excited and there is a marble statue of the houses founder by the name of Rowena Ravenclaw and next to her is a pair of doors that leads to the boys and girls dormitories. Penelope Clearwater gives a quick tour before sending the first years off to their dormitory. Agnes and Penny separate from Drew who heads towards the boys dorm. Luckily however Agnes and Penny''s beds seem to be located next to each other. After such a hectic day tiredness sets in for the majority of first years who proceed to go to sleep before their first day of classes start tomorrow. Penny however relaxes in her bed reading a book until she finally starts to become sleepy.

Chapter Four
The next morning Penny awakens to the bright shining sun that streams through the windows of the Ravenclaw dormitory. After dressing and heading towards the common room She takes a look at the notice board which contains the school time-table for every Ravenclaw year. First years are to have a potions, followed by a flying lesson by Madam Hooch, but what Penny was most looking forward to was charms class with Professor Flitwick. Penny was relatively excited about this as the Professor was a former dueling champion and is a wealth of knowledge, and head of the Ravenclaw house. After the student''s make their way towards the bathrooms and get washed up they are led by their prefect Penelope Clearwater back to the Great Hall in time to have their breakfast. Penny Agnes and Drew sit together again and whilst eating, discuss what they are to expect from their first charms lesson. The Great Hall is once again lively as the voices of many students over lap and echoes off the great stone walls. Breakfast was quickly eaten and the students all head off towards their classes. The first year students head towards the dungeon for potions class. The Dungeons were filled with grime and dirt, the temperature seemed to get colder the further they headed in. If that wasn''t enough to create a dower atmosphere there were spider webs covering a large percentage of the walls and many ponds filled with viscous liquid. Potions class was relatively straight forward. Professor Snape seemed to target the Gryffindores but left the Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws mostly alone. They were required to learn the ingredients for a simple potion that cures boils. With Snape''s dominating atmosphere he soon found how to push the buttons of certain students forcing them to make mistake or to make them argumentative. Snape sneered with delight every time he managed to corner a student. His yellowish skin and disordered teeth seemed even more terrifying within the dower potions class surroundings.
Following that was flying lessons with Madam Hooch and other lessons such a "Transfiguration" with Professor McGonagall which is the only other lesson so far to interest Penny, Everything continued much the same way as it was meant to in the books. After slogging through the majority of the mundane subjects such as "A History of Magic" and Professor Quirrell''s incredibly dull "Defense Against the Dark Arts" it was finally time for the first year charms class. The classroom was located in class ninety-nine, in the south tower. At the front of a series of desks stood Professor Flitwick. His short stature and friendly nature seemed to mask his sharp inquisitive mind. The Professor was stood upon a stack of books so that every student could see him. Charms class this morning was being held with the Hufflepuff, Gryffindore, and Slyverin first years. In years gone by there used to be enough students per house to fill a classroom but after the rise of Voldemort and the death eaters, and their campaign to eradicate Muggle-Born wizards and what they called blood-traitors, the British wizarding community took a sever drop in population. Because of this the smaller numbers of each house have been folding into each other in order to fill the classes. The Ravenclaws first charms lesson began with the cheerful Professor Flitwick giving a quick explanation of charms in his trademark squeaky voice. According to him "charms are the foundation they will build upon as they move onward and upwards in their career as witches and wizards". The students opened their text books at the Professors urging. The first spell is the levitation spell Wingardium Leviosa. The Professor explained. "To the wizard and their wand especially when newly partnered, clear communication between the wizard and the wand is the key. The wand unlocks the wizards innate magical power but to successfully complete a spell, The wizard must move his wand in a specific manner for each spell and clearly enunciate and pronounce the spell". The textbook had pictures indicating the correct wand movements, and the spell was also written as "wing-GAR-dee-um-leh-vee-OH-sa". Certain wizards with particularly strong accents found pronouncing this difficult and others found the flowing wand movement to be difficult. Between the Hufflepuffs and the Ravenclaws though every student read the text-book properly so they were fully aware of where they were struggling and with a bit of prodding by Professor Flitwick were soon correcting their faults. The Gryffindore and Sliverin''s however were for the most part falling behind. The Sliverin''s were trying to use brute power to make the feathers float and the Gryffindores had mainly just skimmed the text book so there were many not getting either the wand movement or the pronunciation correct. Penny who had already read this textbook and practiced the wand movements and pronunciation at home was more than capable of making it float but she chose not to stand out instead watching her fellow students and giving a bit of helpful advice here and there. Suddenly a Gryffindore girl began floating her feather and Professor Flitwick proudly said " Oho well done, see here everyone Miss Granger''s done it". but before he could even finish another Gryffindore boy had made his feather explode much to the shock of the rest of the class.Unauthorized usage: this narrative is on Amazon without the author''s consent. After the end of a rather boring day the first year Ravenclaws returned to their common room. Penny sat down near the fireplace on a comfortable looking Chaise lounge reading the book she picked up last night which is her ragged second-hand edition of the standard book of spells grade four. Agnes noticed and asked "why are you reading that for Penny?" Penny looks up from the book and says "I read the others before school started" Agnes was shocked by this "Penny began explaining. My Father gave me some pocket-money so I spent it on second hand books so as I love reading. Agnes looks at Penny like she has just witnessed a rare beast in the wild. Drew begins asking questions from stuff he has already read too as a kind of test. To their amazement Penny''s answers were word for word what was written in the Standard book of Spells grade one. The trio started making a game out of this and passed their free period enjoying quizzing each other. Some of the other students thought it seemed like fun and under Penelope Clearwater the prefect who having a free period decided to act as the Quiz master divided the first year students into teams of three. Penny, Agnes, and Drew were competing against Padma Patil, Terry Boot, and Michael Corner. Michael was a thin child with dark black hair and brown eyes, his best friend Terry was built slightly bigger with his brown hair cut with a sensible looking fringe. Then there was Padma Patil, Penny was thought she was a beautiful young woman with smooth brown skin and shimmering black hair. The rules of the game is simple Penelope Clearwater will ask a question the first student to make their wand glow will get to answer that question. If they get it right they get ten points if they get it wrong they lose fifty points. Penelope asked "What are the ingredients for Wide-eye Potion?" The first to make their wand glow was Penny who said confidently " six snake fang, six dried Billywig stings, two sprigs of Wolfebane and four measures of Standard ingredient herb mix". Penelope waved her wand with a flourish greenish lights began to circle Penny, "correct" said Penelope. The other students looked disappointed but motivated none the less. "Next what spell can be located on Chapter twenty-one of A Beginner''s Guide To Transfiguration?" Once again Penny''s wand began to glow te fastest. "The answer is the snail to teapot spell" once again Penny got it right. Safe to say this pattern remained unbroken for the entire of the game and led to a crushing defeat of the other team. Sometimes the other team jumped in to answer questions without them being fully asked and as a result got them wrong. The game ended with a final score of Penny, Agnes and Drew''s team on one hundred points with their opponents with a miserable score of minus two hundred and fifty. Due to the sudden popularity of the quiz''s in Ravenclaw the older years began hosting quizzes against each other quite often. Professor Flitwick even acted as quiz master from time to time. It was also safe to say only the older Ravenclaw students stood a chance against Penny who quickly established herself as the Queen of Quizzes for her year a title she was not too fond of.
Chapter 5
Chapter Five
Penny for some reason was awake one night, being unable to sleep she decided to use her time constructively in an exploratory mood. Hogwarts has many secrets, most students only become aware of a small amount of its mysteries. Penny exits the dormitory, usually sneaking around at night is dangerous but Penny quickly cast the Disillusionment charm upon herself. A white light engulfs Penny and once it settles she finds that she begins acting like a chameleon. Her body and clothing quickly change colour to match her surroundings. Penny not being too practiced in this spell before has resulted in a slight lag in colour adaptation. Because of this lag Penny has to take extreme care of the speed she is traveling. The first place she goes to is the restricted section of the library. There are several spells and curses she wants to look up. Within the dark eerie night the castle has an almost horror like atmosphere. At one point Penny hears a noise coming from behind her. She stands completely still against the shadowy recess of one of the walls. Her body blending into its surroundings, she watches as Filtche¡¯s cat Mrs Norris runs past her. The dust coloured cat was looking all around, its well-practiced movements have obviously caught many students in the past. Penny¡¯s breaths as slowly as possible hoping the cat wouldn¡¯t hear her. The cats ears began twitching, Penny was terrified covers her mouth with her hand. Suddenly a bang was heard around the corner, Mrs Norris shot off like a rocket. Within seconds Penny could hear Mrs Norris meowing loudly as it had caught a couple of students. Filtch arrived within moments of hearing Mrs Norris¡¯s call, he quickly collard the two Slyverin students. They were both third years and seemed to be up to no good but Penny didn¡¯t give it too much of her time as she used the chance to get away. Penny finally made it to the library and sneaked into the restricted section. Penny immediately took out a copy of Magick Moste Evile by Godelot. This book is a collection of dangerous spells that is meant to have advanced the study of Dark Magic greatly. The reason Penny is reading such a book is so that she can become familiar with the possible spells the death eaters may use. To her knowing her enemies will greatly increase her chances of survival. This book covers a wide range of topics but it would seem any information on Horcruxes is barely mentioned. Penny didn¡¯t really need information about Horcruxes as she doesn¡¯t intent on hunting them down. She will more than likely leave this to the main characters later on in the story. Penny sat quietly absorbing the text on every single page. She has discovered as of late that her ability to memorize pages of texts has greatly increased since being at Hogwarts. The more she exercises this book dweller power the faster it seems to become. It is so fast in fact that she only really needs to see the page for a moment and she can read back its text in its entirety at a later date. Within her mind she is building up quite a collection.
As Penny was leaving the restricted section she could hear the chuckle of two people. Luckily her Disillusionment charm was still active. The two people laughing were Fred and George, The Weasley twins. She sneaked around the corner and saw the two sat in the library with a table full of sweets and food that they had stolen from the kitchen. She doesn¡¯t know for what reason they were in the library as they don¡¯t appear to be big readers if you were to ask her opinion. Penny recognized the books they were reading and immediately understood that they were reading for the sole purpose of improving their pranks. What Penny was most interested in though was the old-looking piece of parchment folded up on the table next to them. This was obviously the Marauder¡¯s Map. This is an enchanted map of the school created by James Potter, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew during their time at Hogwarts. It was originally just a normal map that the four friends plotted themselves before they enchanted it with the Homunculous Charm. This charm when cast on a map allows one to track every-single person in the mapped area. Obviously the four friends put some fail-safes and some rather mischievous spells on the parchment too. Penny crept over slowly, Fred and George were discussing an improved recipe for Dungbombs which they intend to throw into the Slyverin common room the first chance they get. While they were distracted Penny got her hands on the map and crept back into the restricted section. Making sure nobody was around placed her wand on the map and said in a breathy whisper, ¡°I solemnly swear that I am up to no good¡±. The Map springs to life, ink begins drawing a complex but well designed map of the entire Hogwarts school. There are a few areas not visible on the map such as the Chamber of Secrets and the Room of Requirement but there is a chance the four never found these rooms during their time in Hogwarts, either that or those rooms are unplottable. Penny quickly fumbled through her bag until she found a suitable piece of parchment. She hastily used her wand to make a complete copy of the map. As it is just a normal map that Penny had made it has none of the functions of the Marauder¡¯s Map but Penny intended to enchant it at a later time. She quickly pointed her wand back at the original and whispered ¡°Mischief managed¡± Slowly she crept back towards the twins who were giggling to each other. Penny overheard George say something about Malfoy possibly being inflated into a giant purple ball and the two howled in laughter. Penny placed the map back where she took it and headed off back. This tale has been unlawfully lifted without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon.
Back in the Ravenclaw common room, Penny began casting the Homunculous Charm on her copy of the map. This charm is a complicated multistep procedure, The Marauders obviously helped each other complete this charm but for a sole Penny it is a different preposition. It took Penny almost an entire hour of intense concentration and three attempts to just cast a passable Homunculous charm. Unlike the Marauders map Penny gave her map a feature that would put a minor curse on anyone who gets the Password wrong. Incidentally no one in the wizarding world should be able to guess her password as she set it as Richard Harris. By saying this the map springs to life in much the same way as the Marauders map. To close it down one has to say ¡°Michael Gambon¡±, there is also a charm that will display any text from within Penny¡¯s mind upon the parchment. To use this mode one has to say ¡°Jude Law¡± Penny was pretty proud of her handiwork. She could also read peacefully upon this parchment the numerous collections that she was storing in her own mind. While she could read them immediately from memory she thought actually seeing the written word held far greater appeal to her.
Chapter 6
Chapter Six
The wizarding world was abuzz, Gringotts Bank has recently been broken into and the once impenetrable defenses are now under heavy scrutiny. Penny having read the coverage in the Daily Prophet is more than aware that the target was the philosopher''s stone which had been removed by Hagrid before the start of term. Like most things however, interest rises and falls and the majority of the students were all gossiping about Harry Potter becoming Gryffindores seeker on the Quiditch team. Staying in the periphery of the main characters, Penny stayed up to date so that she was aware of the potential happenings. Soon a great event occurred during Halloween at Hogwarts. The Great Hall was decorated with over a thousand live bats. The bats flew together in groups that made them appear to be huge black clouds that swooped between the candles that float high above. Some of the Ravenclaw''s mentioned a Gryffindore girl who was crying in the bathroom. Penny raised an intrigued eye brow at this bit of information. Since she has been here she finds it amusing just how much the comings and goings of the main characters are discussed within the other characters. Sometimes Penny had the very possible thought that the periphery and side characters lives revolved around the main characters. While she was lost in those thoughts however she was brought back to attention by a piece of parchment folded up like a small bird flying towards her. She opened the parchment to see in scribbled writing "I KNOW YOUR SECRET!" Before she could put much thought into this however her wand began warning her as usual when Professor Quirrell came sprinting into the dungeon. His turban askew which Penny thought to be funny as with just a slight nudge with a spell from her wand she could reveal Voldemort to the masses. She started thinking of whether this could hold any major changes to the story but chose not to. She was worried that if she changed things too much her hard work would be made pointless and result in her death in ways she couldn''t comprehend at this moment. All the student''s attention with the exception were on the desperately panting and out of breath Professor Quirrell. He slumped against Dumbledore''s table and gasped "Troll- in the dungeon thought you ought to know". He collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut feigning that he had lost consciousness. There was an uproar within the students who became panicked. That was simply halted with a wave of Dumbledore wand that set off many purple firecrackers. "Prefects, lead your houses back to your dormitories immediately!" Dumbledore roared. "Okay follow me everyone, first years don''t get separated" said Penelope Clearwater.
They walk together in a well-ordered manner through the west side of Hogwarts, up the spiral staircase and finally reach the Ravenclaw dormitory. Even though it is an emergency the enchanted door knocker still asks them a riddle. "What has a head and a tail but no body?" Without even a seconds thought, several Ravenclaw''s say in unison "a coin". The doors swing open and the students make their way in. There are several first years who seem particularly nervous about the goings on tonight at Hogwarts. Their fears are quickly placated by their elder classmates. Penny seemingly not all that bothered heads towards the chaise lounge that has quickly become her preferred spot. Since she has read and memorized all of the books she owns, she has moved onto the Ravenclaw book collection on the common room book cases. There are some obscure titles that wouldn''t interest the majority of students. Penny is currently reading about the creation of magical artifacts. She intends to create her own series of enchanted objects and is deeply immersed in the lore of said objects. Once all the other Ravenclaw''s have gone to bed Penny begins her first test. She removes several objects from her bag. She has slowly collected them over several months. First is a small brown, bag made of cloth, It is the standard bag used to carry ones books and equipment between lessons. Next is a small red crystal That she got from potions class, She answered a question Snape thought would be unanswerable to a student. He was so confident that it couldn''t be answered he even offered a rare material from his personal stock of supplies. She finely crushes the crystal and mixes it with ink within a pestle and mortar. She then begins to inscribe the cloth bag, with the ink and Crystal mixture a series of complex patterns at specific angles. The angles are worked out using advance Arithmancy, which despite being one of her least favourite subjects its required learning by anyone who wishes to create a powerful object due to learning the magical properties of numbers. Next she uses her wand which begins glowing and releases a non-corporeal Patronus charm. The silver light of the Patronus charm is absorbed by the ink which begins to change colour to match the Patronus. The reason this is done is because everyone''s Patronus is different. Even if none corporeal it acts as a security measure, making it so that only Penny can use the magic object she is creating. This requires highly advanced magical knowledge that the majority of people are unable to comprehend. Finally when the cloth bag begins to absorb the inscribed pattern turning the whole material a wonderful silver colour. Finally she uses the most advanced enchantment she knows which imparts some of her knowledge and personality into the desired object. This is her own recreation of lost magic that was used by the founders of Hogwarts when they created the sorting hat. The opening of the now brilliant silver bag begins to move, "Hello master, what can I do for you this evening" It speaks in a strict almost butler like manner. What Penny has essentially created is a miniature version of the sorting hat. She has had to combine several obscure magics, along with creating some original types of magic to compensate for the magics that were lost in the stream of time. "Hello there" Penny spoke back to the cloth bag. "I would like for you to carry some objects for me if you wouldn''t mind" The cloth bag seemed to nod in agreement. Penny quickly handed over most of her belongings to the bag. She asked it to take special car of the rainbow coloured egg she received from Hagrid that she was currently incubating. The bag Penny made is a magical bag that can carry objects within itself. She used advanced Arithmancy and advance Transfiguration and Charms to create a space within the bag that is far larger inside than the outside. This is not without precedent in the magical world just imagine Mad Eye Moody''s trunk. The charm that increases the capacity of an objects internal dimensions without effecting its external dimensions is known as the Undetectable Extension Charm. This was for the most part pretty simple, the really hard part was giving it a will of its own. Penny began placing the majority of her belongings within the bag that disappeared within the gaping mouth of the bag. To retrieve them was simple she simply asked the bag for what she required, it gladly gave said item back appearing in her hands as requested. What she found quite strange however is that while giving the bag some of her personality and memories it seemed to be far different from she herself. It''s butler like mannerisms seemingly coming from nowhere. Penny spends the rest of the night talking and getting to know the bag. She decides to name it Sebastian, thinking it is a rather butler sounding name. The bag was adamant it didn''t require a name but Penny wouldn''t have that. Penny and Sebastian watched on her map as the Indication of everyone within the castle were going about their business post troll attack. Seemingly having some memories of her previous life Sebastian found it pretty funny that Dumbledore really does just pace around his office. If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. The next morning Penny disguised her bag to make it appear to be just your average kind of bag proceeded to the Great Hall for breakfast. Yesterdays troll issues were quickly dealt with, the rumour mill was running rampant saying that it was defeated by three first year Gryffindore students. Penny quietly ate breakfast and read the Daily Prophet. Once again a little origami bird cam flying over. Penny sighed with frustration before opening it to read "I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE HIDING!" Agnes noticing the small piece of parchment and Penny''s changing expression asked "What''s wrong Penny?" the concern she showed for her friend truly meant a lot to Penny. Penny deciding not to hide the harassment showed her the note written on the piece of parchment. "What your''e hiding, what a load of codswallop" Agnes said with a sense of indignation. Drew joined in "Everyone knows your''e one of the smartest in our year. What could they think you''re hiding?" The note was passed along the Ravenclaw''s who all seemed to find it just as annoying as Penny. Penny''s annoyance however was quickly replaced by another feeling, She felt like she belonged within this group of people who all seemed to support her. An over whelming sense of happiness lit a fire within her chest. The warm feeling was something Penny desperately wanted to protect. Penny was finally given the note back and decided to try a smell she had leaned recently. It is a derivative of a protection charm that returns a casters spell back towards them. She placed the spell on the parchment, which slowly folded itself back into a bird and flew away. Penny and the other Ravenclaws watched as it flew towards the Slyverin table. A sense of annoyance sprung up as they saw where the small origami bird returned to. It landed in the center of Draco Malfoy, and his minions Crabbe and Goyle. Malfoy looked at the returned parchment with a look of annoyance. He opened it up and his words had been replaced with "ARE YOU STUPID?" his face flushed with rage as the Ravenclaw table erupted in laughter. Penny wasn''t sure if provoking Malfoy was the correct move but as he has the mentality of a child and the temper to match she figured she could out think and out maneuver his machinations any day of the week.
Time continued on relatively peacefully in Hogwarts and it was now drawing towards December. Penny had completely read every book in the Ravenclaw common room and had begun reading everything within the library. Since the time returning the origami bird to Malfoy she had not received any other form of threats from them. She would find out on this day however that they were just biding their time. As she turned a particularly sharp corridor Malfoy and his pair of minions were waiting for her. "Well if it isn''t perfect Penelope Partridge!" his disdain dripped with each and every syllable. The trio stared directly towards her. Crabbe and Goyle doing their best to look intimidating. "Hows your Father doing? had any difficult to clean toilets recently?" Crabbe and Goyle started laughing. Penny rolled her eyes and sighed heavily. Seeing that they didn''t get the reaction they were expecting made Malfoy seethed with rage. "See, this is what happens when a blood traitor breeds with a Muggle. Their filthy offspring doesn''t know how to behave in-front of their betters". Malfoy reached for his wand but before he could do anything, Penny fired off three blindingly fast none verbal curses of Petrificus Totalus also known as the full body bind curse. The trio collapsed to the floor, Penny walking closer towards them with each step the fear in Malfoy''s eyes grew wider and wider. Penny decided that now would be the perfect chance to experiment with a few things. With a wave of her wand she moved the trio into an empty classroom. Whilst there she requested a book from her bag that she had recently gotten from the library. The book was on the intricacies of Occlumency and Legilimency. She spent the next couple of hours diving into each of the threes minds and learning all their secrets. She saw memories of their families proudly boasting of their times as death eaters and working with Voldemort. What she found most amusing was the many plans that the three were privy to one such includes the possible use of a seemingly innocent but aged black diary. She was astounded by the cruelty in the majority of the memories. for the three, there were many a memory of their upbringing. Being so in-trenched in pure-blood ideology from a young age complete with punishments should they not behave as expected, has almost brainwashed the three into falling inline within this belief. The thing Malfoy seems to think Penny is hiding would appear to be a method of cheating which he wanted to black-mail her with. He felt her constant lack of motivation during class was at odds with her always near perfect test scores. There are some subjects Penny has no interest in so she skates by with the bare minimum effort in those but given her ability to memorize anything she reads she still gets high scores, it seems her performance has drawn unwarranted attention.Feeling as though she has had enough practice of Leglimency she altered their memories so that they will forget she used them as guinea pig''s. She removed the full body bind curse and altered their memories as skillfully as she could so as not to cause any issues. The three were later found by Professor Snape who despite her best efforts he seemingly recognized that their memories had been tampered with. Returning to the common room a worried Agnes and Drew asked where Penny has been. Penny briefly explains the happenings with Malfoy and his attempt to black mail her thinking she was cheating in her academic performance in some way. Agnes and Drew flew into a rage and when it became know by the others of Ravenclaw they soon followed suit. The hatred of Malfoy was also transferred to the Slyverin''s in general as Ravenclaw''s upcoming Quidditch match is against Slyverin.

The day of the Quidditch match finally arrived. The weather was shockingly cold and frost covered the Quidditch pitch. Ravenclaw''s Quidditch team were galvanized by the sudden rivalry with Slyverin. The Ravenclaw team lost against Huffelpuff in their last game but they seem so motivated its hard to see them losing. Not to mention Slyverin''s tactics rely simply on pure strength to crush their opponents, which makes them the perfect match for the wily Ravenclaw team. The Captains of both teams met at the center of the pitch to shake hands. The pair looked so intense that if electricity could flow from their eyes towards each other it wouldn''t be out-of-place. Madam Hooch began the game and immediately it turned into Slyverin''s show of brute force. They pushed the Ravenclaws back, the bludgers were aimed squarely at the heads of the Ravenclaw team. It took everything in Ravenclaws repertoire to avoid a catastrophe. Ravenclaws beater finally hit one bludger into another and like a pool trick shot in the air, they flew towards the unsuspecting Slyverin seeker. With an almighty Bang! the seekers broom was smashed as he spiraled down towards the ground crashing into the hard frosty pitch. Sadly however while this was going on the Slyverin team was outscoring and out flying the Ravenclaw team. As time wore on the Slyverin side had scored 14 times to give them a score of 140. if this continues not even catching the golden Snitch for its 150 points is going to save Ravenclaw. Suddenly though Ravenclaw changes tactics. the two beaters began aiming not at the Slyverin''s but at their own seeker. The Slyverin''s were momentary confused by this but quickly realized why they had done this. The Ravenclaw seeker was flying unopposed towards the golden Snitch, but was struggling to keep up with the speed of the Snitch. The beaters were using the bludgers to hit the Snitch and stop it from darting away from the seeker. Realizing this the Slyverin team hurriedly regained possession of the Quaffle. They flew towards the exhausted looking Ravenclaw keeper with such speed and power that is was intimating. They threw the Quaffle right towards the rings on the pitch and just as it scored them another 10 points the game was called to an end. The Ravenclaw seeker had caught the Snitch and much to Ravenclaw''s disappointment and Slytherin''s relief the game was called a draw with both teams scoring 150-150. The star of the game is regarded by everyone to be the Ravenclaw beaters whose outstanding skill and unconventional tactics removed the threat of the Slyverin seeker whilst also making it easier for Ravenclaw to catch the Snitch. The photo finish of both teams scoring left everyone''s hearts beating quickly as they were all aware they just witnessed the greatest Quidditch game in some time. The spectators were cheering their hearts out and when the Ravenclaw Beaters raised their bats to the air the cheer grew even louder. Even though the game was called a draw it was the Ravenclaw''s who seemed to come out of this game with the more cheerful faces. Because of this game the Quidditch cup is wide open for any team to win making it one of the most interesting seasons in recent history.
Within days the Ravenclaw beaters had being lionized within their house. Their method of solving a problem in-front of them using a method one would not usually expect emboldened every Ravenclaw within the school. Penny was no different, until now her thirst for knowledge was based solely on her desire to survive. The Quidditch match however has forced her to assess the limitations in such line of thought. Within the Ravenclaw house most students strive to accomplish something. Unlike other houses though a Ravenclaw strives to accomplish something for themselves and them alone. It is usually something that no one has ever seen that way before. The best example would be the head of Ravenclaw Professor Flitwick. There were many times in his life where people questioned his borderline obsession with charms. To most people charms are kind of gateway into other avenues of magic, but to the Professor he saw in it more potential than it was credited with. By becoming so well versed with charms, he had a foundation far greater than others to build upon. It is said that his unending quest to learn more about charms is a big reason of why he became such a dominant dueling champion. Penny who had recently been experimenting with castling multiple enchantments has started to see her own path that she is determined to walk on. She calls this theory Composite Magic, she hole heatedly believes that rather than piling enchantment after enchantment of charm after charm that one would find greater results by combining complimentary spells. Penny was sat in the Ravenclaw common room talking to Sebastian about such ideals. Sebastian listening to its masters proposition responded in kind, soon the pair were deep in theoretical conversation pushing each other further along. Sebastian even had the idea that its personality and mannerism''s were greatly influenced by the composite spells its master used to create it. In fact Penny had also had a similar thought and wondered if she had performed any other enchantments during the creation she wondered if its personality would be different. Penny began jotting down every last thought she had on this composite magic in a blank notebook. She wrote down combinations and their effects and how they can be improved or made to be cast easier. This along with most of Penny''s belongings were kept within Sebastian. The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
After the Quidditch match the enmity between Slyverin and Ravenclaw seemed only to have grown. One day after lessons Penny, Agnes, and Drew were just about to go outside after Transfiguration. Agnes and Drew were discussing the Transfiguration homework. Professor McGonagall has given every member of the class a small teapot that was once a snail. They have to turn back to its original state before their next lesson. The way to go about this is by using the Reparifarge spell. Penny seeing no need in wasting time completed the spell and gave her snail back to a shocked Professor McGonagall before leaving the classroom. As they leave the castle grounds in order to get some fresh air Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle come marching over towards the three. "Think you''re some kind of big shot giving McGonagall the snail right away don''t you, your worse than that mud-blood from Gryffindor". Penny sighed and attempted to ignore Malfoy which annoyed him even more. "Oi I''m talking to you, who do you think you are ignoring me?" Drew getting fed up of the blow hard attitude tells Malfoy "go away Malfoy, unlike you no one else likes the sound of your voice". Malfoy''s brow creased and he began clenching his teeth. "WHAT WAS THAT MUD-BLOOD?! DON''T LET YOUR FILTHY MUD-BLOOD VOICE CONTAMINATE MY EARS!" Drew squared up to Malfoy. It looked as though they were going to exchange blows any moment. Crabbe and Goyle soon intervened like the good little lackeys they are. Penny watched their movements closely. Crabbe was the first to move his hand went directly for his wand. Before even one finger touched his wand Penny sprung into action. Luckily for them she was feeling playful and cast a Bat-Bogey Hex. Crabbes nose erupted with a huge amount of bogeys that had transformed into bats. The green gooey bats were flapping around the Slyverin boys. With each flap of their wings green mucus slime was splattered onto their robes. The students around erupted into howls of laughter. Malfoy was trying to shield himself from the splatting bogeys by hiding behind Goyle. More and more bat-bogeys were flying out of Crabbes nose. Eventually this gathered the attention of one of the teachers. As per usual when Malfoy gets into any kind of trouble it happened to be Professor Snape who came to their rescue. Snape quickly used a counter curse stopping the Bat-Bogeys. Snape''s eyes locked directly onto Penny''s "Miss Partridge, My Office immediately". Malfoy grinned like he had won some kind of victory, Penny not bothered by Malfoy and his cronies any longer replied to Snape "for what reason Professor?" Snape was shocked his authoritarian air was being challenged. "You cast a curse on a fellow student in full view of a member of staff". Snape was seething, if there was one thing he disliked was a child you thought they knew better than him. "Well then Professor if it was in full view of an excellent teacher such as yourself, then surely you saw Crabbe reached for his wand after the derogatory remarks one of your Slyverin''s shouted loud for everyone to hear". Unlike the usual younger people who are terrified by Snape, Penny looked him directly into his eyes. She was well aware how talented Snape is with Occlumency and Leglimency but felt none of the tell-tale signs of encroachment. Penny decided to give the nail one final hammer as she continued her verbal offensive towards Snape "Or are you saying that People of your fine house are allowed to attack students verbally and physically with no response. What would you have done if I hadn''t have been able to stop Crabbe from using who knows what dark magic on us". Snape clicked his tongue loudly in frustration, he looked around he was well aware there were plenty of witnesses to back up the Ravenclaw students story. "Also Professor are you willing to prove certain students right, Is it true that the highly intelligent and well-respected Serverus Snape is so biased towards his own house that he over looks such serious deeds in order to punish those of other houses in their stead?" What most annoyed Snape was that unlike certain Gryffindore students, Penny of Ravenclaw was calmly stating what happened and wasn''t falling into any anger filled diatribes that he could use against her. In fact she was cornering him with her words leaving him little choice than to act in a manner she predicts, Just who is this girl? He wondered. "Crabbe ten points from Slyverin for an unprovoked attack using your wand" Snape then looked at Malfoy, He hated the phrase Mud-blood, his memories flowing back to the time he lost his closest friend and the woman he loves Lily Evans, in his sorry he recalled spitting out that disgusting word in anger towards her. "Mafloy fifty points from Slyverin" Malfoy was astonished the Snape would actually take points away from him for what he deemed such a pathetic reason. Snape turned away quickly, his black cloak fluttering behind him as he grabbed the three Slyverin''s and escorted them away. Everyone''s mood was brightened by what they saw. Some Gryffindore students even referred to it as the Miracle of Hogwarts seeing Snape take points away from Slyverin. Little did Penny realize though that from this moment on Snape would be far more weary of the young girl from Ravenclaw, in-fact he now beginning to suspects her of being the one who altered the three Slyverin students memories.

Chapter Eight
In December, Hogwarts breaks up for the holidays. Almost every student has gone home to their families. Penny is one of the few who has stayed behind. She received a letter from her Father informing her that he has had to go to America. There is a joint Ministry of Magic and Macusa meeting to determine the usage of a slime like magical creature that seems to be useful for cleaning. As it falls under his departments jurisdiction he is heading abroad to determine just how useful it really is. Penny has recently moved her research into Composite magic up a notch. With the free time she holds over the Christmas break she can be seen constantly scribbling in her notebook. She has busily determined what she calls spells with a synergistic relationship. By combining many spells in a controlled environment she is able to determine what effect they hold when combined. A recent discovery has led to the creation of a new spell of her own devising. She calls this spell "Umbra Mantellum" By casting a combination Disillusionment charm on one''s self and Transfiguration on ones own shadow Penny has become able to completely erase her presence within her own shadow, this greatly improving the effectiveness at keeping ones self hidden. Penny is so unnoticeable in this form that it would even give an invisibility cloak a run for its money.
Christmas day has arrived in Hogwarts. Penny awakens by herself in the Ravenclaw dormitory. There are a pile of presents at the foot of her bed, Penny slowly gets out of her bed. She places her dainty little feet into the slippers placed at the side of her bed. Hogwarts is bitingly cold this morning. Penny wraps herself within a Ravenclaw coloured dressing gown that greatly helps in warming her up. She looks at the pile of presents, her Father had sent her quite a large pile more so than usual. No doubt he feels guilty for not being able to spend Christmas with his beloved daughter. Penny remembered the Christmas'' of her youth reading about Father Christmas. To wizards Father Christmas or Santa what ever you want to call him is said to be an ancient wizard, long before the era of the four Hogwarts founders. This wizard with his army of House-Elves gave presents to all good little Muggle children. His magical beasts that resembled reindeer pulled his sleigh with their ability to Apperate anywhere in the would at will. Penny loved this story as a child, and even though Father Christmas is thought of as being a strange person by wizard standards the act of gift giving during this time of year caught on within the wizarding community. Penny thought to herself how that wizard that became known as Father Christmas would have coped in the modern age with the Statute of Secrecy in place.
Penny opens up her presents. From her Father she has received textbooks and reading materials required by the Illvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, She also was given books from the Muggle world from their famous Physicist''s, Biologist''s, and Chemist''s. She specifically asked her father for these much to his confusion. although she can memorize their contents understanding them is going to prove difficult so Penny hopes to take her time with these books and see what she can implement into her magical knowledge. From Drew she received a girt from the Muggle world. It seemed to be a book collection famous in the Muggle world. Penny remembered him telling her it is a book about wizards, elves, and dwarfs. Drew was excitedly talking about something called the ring of power within the book and how he wished it was real as a child. The only one not to give Penny books was Agnes. She sent Penny several well-known beauty products within the wizarding world the most notable being a container filled with Sleekeazy''s Hair potion. Penny asked Sebastian if he would keep them safe for her to which it agreed.
Penny spent her Christmas in Hogwarts relaxing and leisurely reading in the Great Hall until mid-day. The Great Hall which was decorated splendidly by Professor Flitwick. Holly and mistletoe were hung neatly around the walls there were at least twelve trees stood around decorated with either sparkling icicles or hundreds of flickering candles. The four large tables had been pushed against the walls, The already large hall felt even larger than usual. There was a small table placed for the remaining students, of which Penny was sat reading a book her Father had sent as one of her gifts. The book is the first of the seven issue series called Chadwick''s Charms, it is part of the required reading at Illvermorny in their Charms Class. Penny was thoroughly enjoying reading the what another country considered essential magical knowledge, She greedily devoured all that wasn''t covered within Hogwarts. Professor Flitwick seeing the book Penny was reading began excitedly asking all sorts of questions. It seems he too has also read this book series in the past, the contents he described as "eye-opening". Penny agreed and she could see how many of the overlooked applications of charms within this book could vastly improve a wizards magical abilities if implemented. The two sat discussing the many ideas put forth in this book until it was time to eat Christmas dinner. Professor Flitwick reluctantly made his way back to the teacher''s table, his diminutive stature seemingly even smaller as he walks with his shoulders slumped. The other Professors were all cheerfully smiling. The mood became infectious as soon the few students that were also found themselves full of festive cheer. Every one pulled wizarding crackers that banged with such ferocity that Penny jumped the first time she heard one. The cracker Penny pulled contained a live mouse, the little soft creature scurried onto Penny''s hand where she proceeded to stroke it gently. This little Mouse soon found its way to the pocket in her robe and soon fell asleep. The hall was reverberating with the sound of laughter and jokes. Penny was warmly laughing with the other students that stayed behind. The Weasleys, and Harry Potters seemed to be the focus of everyone''s attention as they were reveling with such glee that even the usually staunch Percy Weasley seemed happy. Penelope Clearwater is one of the few Ravenclaws to have stayed behind. Penny watched with amusement as Penelope and Percy kept stealing glances towards each other. The Christmas feast was sumptuous, the roast turkey, potatoes, chipolatas, peas. The show piece however was the flaming Christmas pudding. Everyone ate till they were full, For some reason Ron Weasley was challenging anyone he could find to a game of Wizards Chess. He was so desperate for an opponent that he even asked Professor Snape. Snape with an incredulous smile refused and was about to walk away. Penny who maybe letting the merry-making get to her head spoke up. "What''s wrong Professor?, Surely you''re not intimidated by a students intelligence are you?" Snape spun around his anger visible for all to see. Penny even heard Ron Weasley make a swallowing sound in his nervousness. "Please Miss Partridge, I simply didn''t wish to embarrass young Weasley". With a bit more prodding Penny said "Is that true Professor? And here it looked like you were running away". Since the incident with Malfoy Penny has quite enjoyed seeing Snape become uncomfortable with her provocations. "Very well then. Weasley set up the board, but should you lose too easily you will be helping the house elves in cleaning the dungeons". Ron Looked at Penny like he wanted to complain, but it was already to late for that. Everyone sat around watching the two play. It was an incredible game where Snape aggressively attacked not leaving Ron on the back foot for most of the game. With every piece that was destroyed Snape''s sneer grew larger. His yellow looking skin and disordered teeth made him look almost like a feral animal that had caught its prey. "Come on Ron, What you playing at?" yelled Fred towards his younger brother. Snape thought he was to finish Weasley off in three more moves. Suddenly much to Snape''s surprise, Ron made a move he hadn''t seen coming. Ron had let Snape focus so much on attack that he had left part of the board open. Ron moved his Rook and put Snape in Check. This move proved to be the turning point and from there it became a back and forth with both players angling for control. The game became so intense that the students and the teachers were cheering wildly. Sadly for Ron though Snape managed to finished the game with a splendid Check Mate. Ron looked dejected and Snape not looking his age at all, looked as though it was the most victorious moment of his life. Everyone clapped and Dumbledore even congratulated Ron saying "Congratulations Mrs Weasley, it has been a long time since I have seen such a splendid game of Chess, I hope you will provide us with another great showing at a later date". Penny amusingly picked up on the meaning behind what Dumbledore said. It almost feels like the events in the not to distant future are all according to the headmaster machinations.Reading on Amazon or a pirate site? This novel is from Royal Road. Chapter Nine
With Christmas now behind her , Penny thought that its time to find a very specific magical item she wanted to examine. The item she had in mind is the Mirror of Erised, if she remembers correctly it is hidden in an unused classroom towards the left of the restricted section of the Library. Penny waited until late at night and cast a spell of her own making. She moved her wand in a flowing almost backwards L shape and called out "Umbra Mantellum" Her shadow begins to pry itself away from the wall and wraps itself around Penny leaving only her two eyes visible. During a dark night such as tonight this spell is almost as effective at hidings ones self as using an invisibility cloak. In the dark gloom of the castle at night-time Penny began making her way to the mirror. She headed through the restricted section, her desire to stop and read was being put in check by her much larger desire to examine the mirror. Her first impressions of the abandoned classroom was that it was dusty and damp. Penny was half hoping that the mirror would show her, her greatest desire which she suspected to be for knowledge. Penny walked towards the far wall. The mirror was propped up against the wall its height was equal to that of the ceiling and it was stood on two clawed feet. She read the inscription of "Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi". Penny realized pretty quickly it meant, I show not your face but your hearts desire. What was reflected to Penny was herself in a large library filled with books. Each book contained lost magic. Sadly however Penny couldn''t make out any knowledge from the books. Penny was a bit disappointed but quickly moved onto examining how the mirror worked. As best she could tell that the mirror was partly made out essence of Boggart. The Boggart is a magical creature able to see ones deepest fear and reflect that fear as a defense mechanism. The mirror however is enchanted to see your deepest desires and reflect that instead. This was truly incredible work. Penny could see through a great deal of the magic that went into making it, so much in fact that she feels she could modify the mirror if she so chose to do so. There however was one thing Penny didn''t understand. How the essence of Boggart was implemented. Penny was deep in though and writing her notes down oblivious to the sudden arrival behind her. She hears an Ahem" and turns around. Much to her surprise Professor Dumbledore has been watching over her. "Hello Professor" Penny nonchalantly said "I was just examining this mirror, It''s quite interesting how it can see ones desires. Wouldn''t you agree" Dumbledore was momentarily taken aback. He had recently conversed with young Harry Potter about this mirror not long ago. He half expected it to be Harry again when he detected a student in this room. Dumbledore stares intently at the young girl clutching a notebook in front of him. "Professor, It''s not polite to use Leglimency without permission, wouldn''t you agree?" Memories of his past student flooded his mind causing the Professor a momentary sliver of fear. Dumbledore''s hand momentarily flickered towards his wand but he thought better of it. "Quite correct Miss Partridge" He cheerfully replied. Dumbledore''s curiosity was piqued. How can a first year student be so far along in her magical knowledge. A young Tom Riddle and Gelert Grindlewald came to his mind, but this girl seemed to have far more knowledge that even they did at her age. Penny figured the moment she blocked Dumbledores Leglimency that she could no longer pretend to be a normal student so she decided to talk to the professor as fellow intellectual and gain his trust that way. "If I had to guess the mirror is made from the essence of Boggart, but how it was enchanted is still beyond me". Dumbledore strokes his long beard at the insightful young girl whose understanding is far more advanced than it should be for her age. "You are quite knowledgeable for one so young Miss Partridge" Dumbledore was worried that this child had the potential to grow to become another Dark Lord. In fact her thirst for knowledge reminded him deeply of Grindlewald. "Not really professor I just have an outstanding memory is all, I love to read and if I read something once I remember it in its entirety". Dumbledore was quite impressed this seemed not to be youthful boasting. "Well then why don''t you come to my office soon, I have several books I think you will find interesting. But for now Miss Partridge it is late so would you please return to the Ravenclaw dormitory". Penny agreed and with Dumbledore escorting her she returned obediently. She passed her notebook to Dumbledore and asked him if he wouldn''t mind giving her his views on its contents to which he gladly agreed. Penny soon went to bed after arriving back. Dumbledore decided it is best to move the Mirror before anymore students find it. Dumbledore returned to his private room and sat opening the notebook he was asked to read. Much to his surprise it was filled with insightful comments and improvements for spells along with a few spells he assumed she created herself. Dumbledore has for the first time in a long time wanted to personally take a pupil personally, He was still quite fearful of the past repeating itself so how he handled this situation must be dealt with in the most careful manner. He couldn''t be sure she wouldn''t grow up to become another dark lord unless he tried to set her on the right path from the start. He has learned too much from past failures to allow a person to dangerously thirst for knowledge and power without restriction.
The next day an at breakfast in the Great Hall, The small amount of students were all gathered on a single table. Everyone was conversing being as it is now close to new year the topic of conversation involves new years resolutions. This is the first real chance Penny has had to communicate with the so-called main characters. Hermoine seems to base her resolution around improving her studies. Ron''s resolution is to at least curse Malfoy once, which got a look of displeasure from Hermoine. Harry didn''t seem to have anything he wanted to do specifically. Penny and the few other remaining students resolutions were not all that memorable. The longer Penny stays in this world the more she has started to form a theory that every one of the Harry Potter readers imaginations along with the Author''s combine and form the basis for the wants and dreams of the main characters. As not much of said imagination is distributed to the minor characters, most of their wants and desires seem to be lacking in comparison. The funny thing to Penny is that no one in this world other than her seems to notice that. While she was lost in her thoughts a purple envelope fly''s towards Penny. The hand writing is written in beautiful calligraphy no soon as she reads that it is addressed to her does it begin to unfold itself revealing the letter inside.
"Deer Miss Partridge
I would like to request of you to come to the headmasters office at noon today.
I have several things I would like to discuss with you.
Many of which I think you will find interesting.
The password is "Lemon Sherbet"
Yours sincerely
Professor Albus Dumbledore"
Penny quietly pocketed the envelope and letter without letting the other students know, and quietly left the table. As she had plenty of time until noon she decided to head towards the library to kill a bit of time. Sadly she wasn''t permitted into the restricted section, but that didn''t mean all the books for general consumption are lacking in interest. She was reading about the known method of becoming an Animagi. Sadly most of the important information is lacking as it only gives a general account of the spell. The majority of wizards that can become an Animagi usually become a normal animal that you can find anywhere, There are however very rare cases of wizards becoming a magical animal. These kind of wizards carry a huge risk however, if control of said form is not properly implemented The transformation can fail resulting in a blood curse that effects your female descendants from then on. These female descendants are known as a Maladictus. They can transform into a degraded form of the original Animagi at will, but they are destined to eventually become trapped in the form of a beast. It is theorized that if one was to become an Animagi of say a Phoenix the likeliness of your descendants becoming a Malidictus with the ability to transform into some form of bird is extremely high. It is because of this very rare possibility that becoming an Animagi is highly regulated. Should the unthinkable happen and the witch or wizard become a magical creature they will be in the care of the ministry during such an attempt and the wizards present can reverse the transformation before any harm is caused. Penny''s thoughts turned to Nagini who she remembered to be a Malidictus who eventually become Voldemorts snake. Penny made an educated guess that one of her ancestors became an Animagi for a Basilisk or a Horned Serpent only to fail her initial transformation. Even though the chances of becoming a magical animal are minute Penny couldn''t deny that the failure of such didn''t frighten her a little.
Penny eventually put this line of thinking away. It was now time for her to head to Dumbledore''s office. The office is located in the Headmasters Tower, through the Gargoyle Corridor. upon the third floor stands an imposing Gargoyle that stands guard. Penny walks towards the Gargoyle and says "Lemon Sherbet!" The Gargoyle moves revealing a stair case which begins to move once you step foot upon it. She is spun around as the stairs spiral upwards until entering the Headmasters Office. The office was filled with many fantastical things. The room was large and circular with many windows. Along the walls are portraits of all the prior Headmasters. But what is most eye-catching is behind Dumbledore''s desk a huge portrait. The man in the portrait had a frail and feeble aura about him but he seemed to also hold a great deal of pride. While the other portraits were pretending to be asleep he was staring intently at Penny. "Now now Armondo don''t stare so hard you will scare the child" said Dumbledore rising from his seat. "Welcome Miss Partridge, I hope you will forgive the former Headmaster he is concerned you may become some kind of a threat to the school". The portrait clicks his tongue in frustration. He believes that Dumbledore is being too trusting. The portrait is more than aware of some of the past failings of Dumbledore which is what is putting him so on guard. Penny taking the portraits gaze as lightly as possible ignores it which seems to annoy the portrait even more. "Well Miss Partridge, I called you hear after reading through your notebook. You have many interesting interpretations of spells and seem to think of things in a far more advanced level than one would expect of a child of your age". Dumbledore''s bright blue eyes were intently looking at Penny''s reaction. She got the feeling this little bit of flattery held far more meaning than just lip service. She felt a slight pressure from the Headmaster. It was almost as though they were locked in a heated game of Wizards Chess and they were sizing each other up. "Not at all Professor, Like I told you I simply have a good memory is all. It takes a great deal off effort to put what I remember into practice and then I simply make my own assumptions after I see the results". Dumbledore who knows how people with the potential to become dangerous react to flattery so he decided to put the young Witch to the test, While a young Tom Riddle and Gelert Grindleward both would feign modesty it was clear they truly held their own abilities in high regard. This young witch however whilst modest admits it takes a severe amount of hard work for her to implement what she memorizes. The two in his memories never once implied they worked hard because that would undermine their desire to appear naturally powerful. While the two were planning the next salvo in their little game a small bird flew over onto Penny''s shoulder. The Phoenix Fawkes who is only the size of a chick at current, perched upon her shoulder happily. Dumbledore was amazed by this as Fawkes only usually likes those who are loyal to Dumbledore. He watched as the small chick sized phoenix was rubbing its head against Penny''s cheeks. Whilst Dumbledore is more than aware that Penny shows none of the blind loyalty that certain others show him, Fawkes has made it more than clear she means no harm. Fawkes would never have done such behavior with Voldemort and Grindleward. If Dumbledore could understand what the phoenix was thinking it would be something along the lines of this small girl reminds it of Dumbledore in his younger days. The tense atmosphere is immediately blown away and Dumbledore begins talking to Penny about her goals and aspirations. Penny simply wants knowledge is what she explained. She says "Power is all well and good but power without knowledge is unfocused. There are many dark wizards who wished for power only to be undone by something they don''t understand". This immediately struck a chord with Dumbledore his mind going back to Voldemort''s failure to kill young Harry because he failed to understand how a Mother''s love could possibly have an effect. Young Tom Riddle whose thirst for power only learned about what he deemed essential. In fact Dumbledore thought back to his younger self and remembered just how little he himself truly knew before things turned badly. By looking at this child, for the first time in a long time Dumbledore saw a kindred spirit. To Dumbledore sat at the top of the wizarding world, The machinations of those with power has for the longest time been an all too familiar part of his life. But this young girl reminded him just how much in his youth Dumbledore thirsted for knowledge for knowledge sake. It wasn''t until He began having thoughts of gaining power that Dumbledore''s life took a turn for the worse. Somehow this young girl has looked at the world and seen it in the way that the Professor has been striving to see it. Little did he know how heavy this had weighed upon him until this moment. Dumbledore wondered why he couldn''t have met this child sooner in life. Being strong has been the benchmark for Dumbledore''s life for the longest time. Even if he was reluctant to the role he had to turn knowledge into power just like those he battled against. First he had to be strong to stop Grindlward, then he had to be strong to stop Voldemort. The weight seemed to have been lifted slightly by this child. All the plans and manipulations the headmaster had put into effect to keep the wizarding world safe has seemingly been laid bare before himself. "Would you mind telling me about the spell you invented in your notebook Umbra Mantellum. It seems to be a composite of two different spells am I right". Penny was astounded by Dumbledores wisdom, being able to see through the makings of that spell so quickly. "That''s true professor. I came across the idea for combining spells that have what I call a synergistic effect" Dumbledore nodded urging her to continue. "You see if two spells have effects that compliment each other, then I thought that casting them simultaneously would provide an interesting effect". Most Wizards are unable to cast more than one spell at a time. To Dumbledore this seemed to be a breakthrough in magical theory that has been stagnated for as long as he could remember. In his youth Dumbledore thought of casting more than one spell at a time but to think of combining spells that have a synergistic effect it was. Penny continued "Professor if you were to cast a spell like Incendio to create a flame, what do you think would happen if at the same time you cast a spell like the Ventus Jinx that creates wind in just the right ratio?" Dumbledore quickly answered
If you come across this story on Amazon, it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it."wouldn''t the wind fan the flames creating a hotter flame over a larger area". Penny nodded it seems that Dumbledore understood. "You see Professor, in the Muggle world they have a thing called science. This is how they make things work without magic. You see by using electricity they create light, by using flame they are able to make vehicles move. They taught themselves the mechanics of the world in ways most wizards don''t understand. Now what do you think would happen if we start to understand their science and saw how it could affect magic, knowing which synergistic spells to use together come from knowing this science". To Dumbledore he had never seen a witch or wizard in all his years that thought this way, he was well aware of some of the things she mentioned as Hogwarts teaches Muggle studies as an elective course. But it would seem this girl has already learned a great deal. Dumbledore wasn''t aware that Penny had voraciously read every textbook available in Hogwarts pertaining to Muggle studies. Because of this her grasp on Science and other Muggle pursuits could be thought of as being the height of the wizarding worlds understanding of such. The portrait behind Dumbledore began to speak up in discontent "learning from Muggles, is this child mad". Penny simply sighed and decided to try something she had wanted to try. "Okay how about this, Professor do you have a piece of parchment?" Dumbledore quickly gave her a blank piece of parchment off his desk. "The muggles have a certain idea called Space-Time. If I was to know the exact Space-Time of this object and make it move Faster than the speed of light what do you think would happen?" Dumbledore stood unable to answer. This is a branch of knowledge he had absolutely no idea about. Penny began moving her wand in a series of complicated movements suddenly the parchment disappears. Dumbledore stood amazed as he thought something that should not be possible within the walls of Hogwarts has happened. It was almost like the parchment Disapparated, it was similar but not quite the same thing. When someone Disappparates it requires conscious thought to disappear and Apparate where you want to go. Suddenly the Parchment reappeared where it was mere moments ago. Penny had made no movement it just appeared by itself. "You see Professor instead of effecting the space the parchment moved to I effected the time instead". Dumbledore had a vague idea about this. It is similar to how a time turner can send a person backwards in time she seemed to have found the way of sending something forward in time instead. Professor by speeding up the Space-Time of the parchment to faster than the speed of light it leaves our Space-Time and when it finally slows down it will come to a stop in a Space-Time we have yet to get to, That is how it went forward in time by just a few moments. Sadly I don''t think a person could survive but as I proved a non living object can do the journey quite well". Dumbledore was amazed at what this girl was able to accomplish by herself and her own study method. Dumbledore looks at the portrait of Armondo Dippet who nods in agreement almost knowing what the Headmaster is thinking. "Say Miss Partridge how would you like for me to teach you from now on?" Penny was shocked at the offer but with a simple idea of what she stands to gain by learning under Dumbledore himself she readily agrees. Dumbledore has Penny teach him the method she used to send the parchment forward in time in exchange for his personal lessons. Dumbledore seems to think if he can exchange letters with his future self then he would be one step ahead of any of Voldemort''s conspiracies. Sadly even for the great Dumbledore being able to send letters to his future self is pointless as they lack the ability to send them backwards in time.
Chapter 10
Chapter Ten
The days passed and soon a new term started at Hogwarts. Penny whose personal lessons with Dumbledore, increased her magical knowledge exponentially. The two would for the most part discuss obscure branches of magic and how they can be applied to the more well-known forms of magic. This increased the number of composite spells that Penny created. Dumbledore became keenly aware that Penny''s ability to memorize was entirely dependent on if she had read the information or not. Due to this he gave her written permission to enter the restricted section and their lessons were mostly just the pair talking about what she had read over drinks and snacks. To the pair the sessions became more stress relief than formal education. Dumbledore finding a kindred spirit whose intelligence matched his own would be more frank and open than he would with most. Granted he kept his secrets still but he was slowly beginning to lower his guard around this girl. The Professor even ordered many books from the Muggle world for the two to read and see what could be implemented into magical theory. Dumbledore began immersing himself into ideas that the majority of the staff and students believed him to have lost his mind. It wasn''t until he displayed the benefits to a few of his closes aids that they reluctantly agreed with the possibilities.
Other than this time at Hogwarts was relatively peaceful. Students were happily talking rumours such as the holy unbelievable one that the groundskeeper Hagrid was secretly caring for a young dragon. Lessons continued as normal, Penny without putting much effort into the classes was becoming to some teachers an annoyance. They felt she wasn''t taking their subjects seriously. It wasn''t until some tried to catch her out by quizzing her on the spot did they realize she already knew the lessons contents. Professor Snape found this incredibly irritating and started thinking of her as a know-it-all on a far higher level than Hermoine Granger. He even took points away from Ravenclaws house any time he felt she wasn''t listening which resulted in her feigning interest specifically for his lessons. Penny however held Snape''s potions expertise in high esteem. She even decided one night to use her "Umbra Mantellum" spell to sneak down into the potions classroom so she can read the Half Blood Prince''s Advance Potion Making text-book. She committed ever single page to memory, this combined with the textbooks her Father had altered and her own composite magic made Penny''s knowledge second to none among the students. In just a single year at Hogwarts Penny was voraciously devouring every scrap of information the school had to offer. She had read so much in fact that the sight of her without a book is thought of as strange at this point. It was during one of her sessions with the headmaster that he brought up an interesting proposal. "Say Miss Partridge are you familiar with the TriWizard Tournement?" Penny quickly explained what she knew about it. Dumbledore not shocked with the scope of her knowledge any longer continued "Hogwarts and two other schools are thinking about reviving the tournament in a few years. I was hoping that maybe we could send to as an exchange student next year to both of the schools in order to improve our relationship between schools". Penny thought about it for a while and quickly agreed. She wondered what kind of knowledge she could find in a school other than Hogwarts. "You see Miss Partridge, We have been communicating with thee possible schools , these are Illvermony, Durmstrang, and Beaxbatons. Sadly Illvermony have prior commitments so it falls to the other schools. I was hoping that starting in your second year we would be able to send you to the two schools for half the school year each. By doing this we would foster a better relationship and make them agree to join the tournament more easily". Penny thought about the dangers in Hogwarts in the second year. She decided it might be a good idea to get her Muggle-born friend out of the school just in case so she readily agreed as long as she, Agnes and Drew could go as a group. Dumbledore agreed and began communicating with the other schools to get their approval. after Penny returns back to the Ravenclaw common room she explained the opportunity to her two friends who excitedly agreed. "Can you imagine what we could learn in a new environment" said Drew happily. Agnes was a little taken aback and was worried about Drew in Durmstrang as they don''t admit Muggle-Born students. Once she explained this his excitement quickly died down.
The school year continues as it was intended in the story. As June is rapidly approaching the students at Hogwarts are preparing for their end of year exams. Penny who already memorized enough of the curriculum to be able to sit the N.E.W.T exams spends her time exploring the castle and generally just going about things as she wishes. Most students and some students think she isn''t applying herself, but there are just as many who know she really has no need to. These people wondered if she was going to be allowed to sit the O.W.L exams and graduate early. If they were to ask Penny though she would refuse. in her mind there is more to learn in the castle than just whats on the curriculum. When the exams finally arrive Penny easily completes what each subject requires. To some students who look upon her performance it would appear she did the exams with the bare minimum of effort. None of these know just how voraciously she has consumed every scrap of knowledge since her entry into Hogwarts. With the Exams over and the school year drawing close to an end Penny ramps up her exploration of the castles mysteries. One Penny headed towards the seventh floor of Hogwarts. on the left side corridor is a special room that she finally decided to go explore. She deliberately kept in mind the idea of the room of hidden things. Soon a door appeared on the previously blank wall. This is whats known by the house elves as the Come-And-Go room or the Room of Requirement. Inside was mountains upon mountains of things that past students had hidden inside. Penny happily searched through the contents with a smile on her face. The reason Penny was so happy is because thee are thousands upon thousands of old books. She greedily placed many of them within her bag. They disappeared with beads of light within the gaping maw of the bag. Even Penny was unable to get through this many books quickly but she happily took them none the less. Knowing many of Hogwarts secrets in advance has proved invaluable to Penny. It is because of this knowledge from he past life that she found this room so quickly. Penny''s mood quickly became sour. Her wand was making the warning song in her head far louder than she had ever heard it before. During her search she came across what she recognized as the Lost Diadem of Rowena Ravenclaw. She felt an immediate pull towards the object. It was almost as though something was calling out to her. The voice she hears was full of malice and so evil she felt her heart freeze. Just as she was about to touch the Diadem she sopped herself. Somehow her Occlumency skills were being bypassed. It took all the will and skill she could muster to rebuild her mental defenses. She looked at the diadem, its beauty seemingly captivating. The engraving of "Wit beyond measure is man''s greatest treasure" seemed to stir something within Penny. Penny felt a strength flood through herself as her mind suddenly became clearer. Her eyes flashed with determination as she simultaneously cast Occlumency and Leglimency at the same time. She felt her consciousness leave her body and flow into the Diadem. Inside the diadem was a pure white space with a single person standing before her. He was a tall dark slender figure with striking jet black hair upon first glance he seemed to be an incredibly beautiful person. There was however something not quite right. Under scrutiny there seemed to be something wrong with this person that only became more obvious the more you looked. His good-looking visage crumbles as his skin begins to appear waxy and ghostly pale, the most striking thing is his bright red blood like eyes. The figure smiles at Penny simultaneously bewitching and terrifying. All her survival instincts began screaming at once. "welcome, how are you? my name is Tom, Tom Riddle" the spectral figure seemed to say in a friendly air. Unlike his younger self as described in the novels this version of Tom was losing his youthful friendly appearance. It was almost like she was looking at a snake that is in the midst of shedding its skin. That didn''t stop this version of Tom trying to affect a friendly, jovial atmosphere to lower ones defenses. There was something dark and terrifying creeping into Penny''s thoughts. Even with his friendly appearance she could feel Tom trying to encroach upon her mind. She defended against Dumbledore''s attempt as he attempted to use Leglimency with a great deal of finesse, Tom however is trying to gain entry by pure force. Whilst Dumbledore was picking the lock to her mind with a dexterous hand and the right tools, Tom''s approach is more akin to chopping the door down with an axe. Toms smile quickly drops when he realizes his attempts are being resisted. He finds the thought of anyone resisting him to be the highest form of insult. How dare anyone stand against him. His eyes as red as blood flash with menacing glee. "So, you seem to have a little talent then". His cheerful voice now cold and full of contempt. Penny''s mind pushes back against Toms. As to reflect this she pushes forward by two steps, it is almost like the physical act reflects what is going on within her mind. Tom doesn''t back up at all in fact he takes two steps towards the young Witch. Penny feels her legs weaken momentarily. His grin twisted in a grotesque form of pleasure as he makes his way towards Penny. "Ah so you had a Muggle parent" Tom seems to have read a stray memory that Penny wasn''t able to conceal. Although Penny is skilled and is pushing back against Tom, she can''t protect every memory. "Its seems so did you" Penny bluffed. She knew the history of Tom Riddle the wizard who would go on to become Voldemort from reading the books in her past life. Tom was shocked, he was sure he kept complete control of his mind. Penny taking advantage of this, put on a composed and almost know it all expression. She pushed further into Toms mind. She purposely made her encroachment as unpleasant feeling as possible. The visage of Tom raised his hand to his head in pain. "What''s this abandoned by your Father before you were born. Your Mother died and left you all alone. All that superiority is nothing but a cover. Your nothing but a weak scared little boy with daddy and abandonment issues playing pretend". Penny taunted the visage of Tom Riddle. She was pretending this knowledge came from her clumsy intrusion into his mind. As he couldn''t tell how she was learning this he was becoming more and more frustrated. Penny was doing just enough to keep her bluffs hidden. He was losing confidence in his own ability to protect his mind which only exacerbated his situation. His guard was lowering and Penny was instead of focusing on his memories instead headed towards the knowledge this version of Tom had buried deep within itself. She knew doing this would cause him the most amount of pain. She kept up her bluffs making it easier and easier to siphon off his knowledge. "Poor little Tommy, All alone with no one to protect him. You got hurt didn''t you. That''s because you were weak, you will always be weak.". She pushed the knowledge of the weak pathetic Voldemort forced to be a parasite surviving in the back of Quirrell''s head into his mind. Tom screamed in agony, the thought that his future self has fallen so low and that it drinks unicorn blood just to keep its fragile existence drove this version of Tom to despair. His hatred and wish to kill that weak version of himself drove his power to attack himself. Cracks began appearing on the spirit of Toms forehead, It looked suspiciously like a certain lightning bolt shaped scar. From this crack great stores of ominous green light flooded out of them. Penny now standing right in front of the wailing terrified Tom, with nowhere to go the green light is dangerously close to reaching her. Penny places her right hand over the crack. Penny then uses her Book Dwellers power for the first time since taking over the body of Penelope Partridge. She is more than aware the likeliness of escaping the diadem is impossible if left as it is. The light is obviously a defense mechanism Voldemort left behind that activates the killing curse, should anyone actually be capable of harming the spirits construct. Penny''s hand absorbs a great deal of the flowing green light. along with large black serpent like specters that are absorbed by her skin like drops of ink on a page. Penny feeling now what dying feels like uses every ounce of her book dweller power in order to infuse her boundless imagination into purifying herself. Eventually the light subsides within the white space the version of Tom screams releasing the last of its power as he crumples to the floor, curled up into a ball Voldemort''s eyes show a fearful gaze that until now was only reserved for Dumbledore. The remains of his Power expelled Penny from the Diadem at shotgun speed, it happened so fast her consciousness was unable to return any time soon, She is like wise shot out of the Room of Requirement like a cannon the weakened vestiges of Voldemort expelled her using the very last remaining ounce of his power. Eventually she is discovered unconscious on the ground by Mrs Norris, Filtch''s cat. The act of using her book dweller abilities has left her dangerously close to death, but Penny calculated that it would be better be near death than let that killing curse actually kill her.Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more.
Penny wakes up in the hospital wing. Her bed is surrounded by cards and flowers from other Ravenclaw students. Madam Poppy Pomfrey, the schools matron was a thin elderly lady with dark grey hair and blue eyes. She had a rather strict looking appearance that was similar to Professor McGonagall. Penny instantly knew to do exactly what she was told. Penny examined mental condition. She was well aware there would be a side effect of using her book dweller abilities, she is concerned it could possible destabilize the world she has chosen to live in. It seems that when she was absorbing the Killing curse with her book dweller abilities it had an unexpected side effect of combining Leglimency and Occlumency and for lack of a better word copied and pasted some of Voldemort''s memories and knowledge into her own brain. Most of his memories are only within her mind on the surface level but his knowledge seems to be deeply rooted, there is no way of telling yet what kind of side effects this could have. Most of Voldemort''s childhood memories and cruel deeds were now conflicting with her own memories. Suddenly a specific memory springs to Penny''s mind. Penny begins to vomit uncontrollably, Madam Pomfrey quickly helps Penny and cleans up the mess with magic. Penny had just saw the memory of Voldemort creating his first Horcrux in her mind. She was aware it involved killing in order to split the soul but the rest of what the spell involved was the most disgusting thing she had ever known of. There was something not quite right within her mind, it was almost as though something deep within herself was rejecting these memories. The fact that they are so tainted with evil contradicts being within the mind of a person whose soul is complete. The feeling of nausea returns again like a tidal wave that washes away every fiber of her being. Madam Pomfrey quickly notices the pale look upon Penny''s face, she rushes over and gives Penny a potion to quell the nausea. Luckily for Penny, Madam Pomfrey is a person of incredible ability and soon she starts to feel a little better. As Penny regains a bit of strength she asks "Madam Pomfrey can I have a container of some kind please?". Madam Pomfrey tilts her head in confusion but relents when seeing the determination within the young Ravenclaws eyes. Madam Pomfrey goes and brings back a small clear bottle with a rubber cork. "Will this do dear?" she asks politely to which Penny nods in agreement. She places the bottle in Penny''s shaking hand. The colour has almost entirely drained out of Penny''s skin but she is wet with sweat. It takes Penny all of her willpower to calm herself down. Flashes of memories constantly playing in her mind effecting her concentration. Penny bites her lip hoping that feeling the sting of her teeth will distract her from the memories. With a shaking hand she places her wand near her temple. Penny knows the theory around extracting memories but this is the first time she has attempted it. With all the concentration she can muster she exorcises all of the worst memories. Her wand pulls a rotting black string from her head. When most people perform this the memories are visually brilliant white, this just goes to show how disgusting the mind of Voldemort has become since splitting his soul. The disgusting black string seems to be fighting against her, It is devolving into a tug of war between Penny and the memories. Madam Pomfrey is in shock seeing what is before her. Never in all her years has she seen something like this, The young witch before her screams so loudly as a darkness envelopes the hospital wing. The air becomes so fridged that if one was to say a Dementor was near by she would have believed them. The black string is slowly being pulled away in a final act of desperation, the disgusting strings begin to form hook like protrusions that dig into Penny''s temple. Penny''s pain filled scream reverberates as the glass windows begin to shake. The hooked protrusions are being forcefully torn out of Penny''s temple. Veins are pulsating on Penny''s forehead as blood splatters with each and every separated hook. Penny grits her teeth with one final Pull the squirming black mass of memory is out of her head. Penny''s focus and reason quickly returns as she places the evil memories within the bottle before sealing it. She now feels more exhausted than she has ever felt in her life but through pure willpower she is staying conscious. She quickly notices that the majority of Voldemort''s memories are gone only leaving a few pieces behind too deep for her to recover them any longer. She was a bit worried but as the worst is now gone she felt truly lucky. Unlike those memories she could have just copied and pasted far more nefarious things such as his personality into her mind making her essentially a mental clone of Voldemort. The side effects of using her book dweller powers are far to random it''s probably for the best if she doesn''t have to use them again. An incredibly tired looking Penny then notices, in a bed on the opposite side of the Hospital wing is an unconscious Harry Potter. He is surrounded by banners, cards, and gifts from his fellow Gryffindores. She finds it amusing that both of them are in here due to battling the same dark wizard at the exact same time. Penny has been incredibly weakened by the whole ordeal and quickly falls asleep.
When she wakes up again Professor Dumbledore is sat next to her bed. "Ah, glad to see you are awake Miss Partridge" said the headmaster. He was calmly looking at Penny, but she got the distinct opinion he was examining something about her. "Yes, thank you for your concern headmaster" replied Penny as politely as she could. Dumbledore came straight to the point. "Would you mind explaining the happenstance that resulted in your current condition? If you don''t mind". Penny collected her thoughts and decided where to start. "I found a room filled with many things that seemed to be thrown away or hidden professor". The description of this room seemed to spark a memory within the headmaster. "Inside the room, I came across an object that appeared to be Ravenclaws lost Diadem. Sadly It seemed to have an incredibly Dark magic cast upon it". Dumbledore quietly listens to the explanation. His hands momentarily tighten around each other when he hears of the dark magic. "You see there seemed to be some kind of presence dwelling within that object. It attempted to use Leglimency on me but when it failed it violently turned its hostility towards me. The being dwelling within that object seemed to be more ferocious and evil than I expected. I believe it intended to kill me." Several forms of dark magic that can cast ones presence within an object flooded to Dumbledore''s mind but only one seemed to match this description. "So you see Professor, this presence and I were caught up in a battle over each others minds. While I don''t think I destroyed the presence within that object It should be far weaker than it was originally". Dumbledore was relieved to hear this. If his suspicion was correct then even weakening it can be considered a great victory especially for a first year student. Penny then handed over the bottle containing the memories she extracted. Dumbledore stared at the contents intently, his face seemed to hold a great deal of disappointment. Penny said to the Professor "These are a few memories of what was inside the Diadem, Just housing them inside my own mind for a while I feel was incredibly dangerous. I suggest they be destroyed immediately. If I hadn''t extracted them when I did I dread to think of the consequences. Dumbledore put the bottle in his robe. The pair chatted amiably for a while after that before Dumbledore left to continue
Chapter 11 and Epilogue
Chapter Eleven
Penny was finally allowed to leave the hospital wing, during her stay she kept badgering Madam Pomfrey to allow her to read her collections of books relating to magical medical care. Madam Pomfrey while devout in her position was lad to be rid of the Ravenclaw. She returned to Ravenclaw tower. Her friends Agnes, and Drew had visited her often but they were both excited to see her. The pair quickly organised a quiz night in honour of Penny''s recovery. The Ravenclaw dormitory was a happy change of environment for Penny who was starting to become bored out of her mind in the Hospital wing. The Domed ceiling that is painted like the night sky felt so much more comfortable to Penny than the drab Hospital wings Ceiling. The quiz continued as usual with Penny the undisputed queen of the Ravenclaw Quiz. much to her surprise as a gift to celebrate her getting well Agnes, Drew and the other Ravenclaw''s gave Penny small but beautifully crafted ring-shaped like Ravenclaws lost diadem. Penelope Clearwater explained that "since Penny is known as the Queen of quizzes she needed something to match the title". Penny was embarrassed but accepted the good will of her housemates. Drew happily explained that the materials are were all transfigured by Penelope and Agnes. He put them together with the knowledge he had growing up in a house of jewelers. He says "it''s not as good as the work my parents can do but I hope you like it". Penny smiled and nodded as tears welled up within her eyes. She had made some really good friends this year at Hogwarts. She hugged everyone and thanked them.
Late at night after everyone had gone to sleep an exhausted Penny was woken up to a "Psssst" sound coming from the bed site table. She rubbed her eyes sleepily to see an uncomfortable looking Sebastian. with a huge yawn and a stretch she sleepily asked "what''s the matter Sebastian?" The bag sheepishly said "I''m sorry master it''s just the egg you left incubating is moving. Penny shocked suddenly felt incredibly awake, she rushed from her bed over to the bag as Sebastian gently placed the moving egg within her cupped hands. The pair watched as the egg twitched and moved. Soon small cracks began to appear. With a huge smile on her face she saw the cracks widen as bits of the egg fell apart. Penny gasped in surprise, what Hagrid had told her was a bird was staring directly into her eyes. Its shining sapphire eyes seemed so large in comparison to its tiny little face. What Penny was most shocked by was its black and silver scales. Its three pure white horns looked almost crown like and majestic on its head. The creature slivered out of its egg and into Penny''s hands. It was barely the size of her thumb and just a little thicker than a piece of string but there was no doubting what this creature was. She was looking at a Horned Serpent. There are several different species of horned Serpent and Penny is not that knowledgeable about magical creatures but she understood what it was due to it being the name of one of Illvermorny''s school houses. Suddenly with a tiny hissing noise from its mouth Penny heard in a girlish little voice "Mamma". The horned Serpent seems to have imprinted upon Penny as soon as it hatched assuming her to be its parent. But what Penny found to be most odd is that she understood the Horned Serpent perfectly. Penny looked at Sebastian and asked "Did you hear it talk just Sebastian?" to which the bag shook its head. The bag answered honestly "No master it sounded like hissing to me". Penny not knowing what was going on was brought back from her confusion by the small girlish voice once again. "Mamma, hungry" Penny sighed somehow she was understanding Pasteltongue. She knew for a fact she couldn''t understand Pasteltobgue before, the only explanation she could think of is that the part of Voldemorts knowledge that burrowed itself deep within her mind was his knowledge of Parseltongue. Unlike Harry who houses a part of Voldemort''s soul Penny has no such thing dwelling within herself. Unlike his memories she was unable to rid herself of his knowledge and it seems there is more knowledge now in her mind than even she is currently aware of. Penny sighs and goes to take out her wand. She intends on providing something for the Horned Serpent to eat. Penny summons some small ingredients from the kitchen using the Accio Charm. Penny then uses some basic Food Charms as created by Helga Hufflepuff and watches as the Horned Serpent greedily devours a small rare cooked steak placed before it. it then washes it down with a small bottle lid filled with milk. With its belly full the tiny horned Serpent says "Mamma delicious, Love you" before falling asleep curled around Penny''s little finger. Penny and Sebastian discuss how they are going to have to look after this little guy until they all fall asleep together on Penny''s bed.
The next morning Penny, Agnes, and Drew heads towards the Great Hall for the end of year feast. It was decorated in Slyverin''s colours with their banners hung high. The students were all abuzz with the rumors of Harry Potter facing Voldemort. Almost every detail was somehow widely known and greedily discussed among the student. The fact that Quirrell was acting as Voldemort''s body made all the students realize just how close the dark lord was to them. There were many a student who found this idea terrifying. This years awards were being happily handed out. Slyverin had barely won the Quidditch cup in what was deemed the most exciting Quidditch season in a century. In Gryffindores final game against Ravenclaw, Harry Potter was still in the hospital wing after his encounter with Voldemort. because of the absence of their star seeker and Ravenclaws outside the box tactics, the Gryffindore team suffered a crushing defeat which outright gave the cup to Slyverin who won the cup on points difference after they destroyed the Hufflepuff team. The Slyverin team oozed superiority when receiving the cup from Professor McGonagall. Next was the individual awards, these were handed out to students who have accomplished something of note that sets them apart from their peers over the last school year. After the personal awards were handed out Harry Potter entered the Great Hall, a hush descended upon the hall. all the chatting voices silenced creating an ominous atmosphere. Within seconds the hush was replaced by the chatting voices of all the students once again talking about the encounter between Harry and Voldemort. every voice merged together and created a wall of sound that Harry wasn''t sure if he preferred this or the silence. He made his way over to the Gryffindore table where he was welcomed back by his friends and housemates. This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
Finally the time came for the house cup. Currently the progress of each house are tracked using four giant enchanted hourglasses. Within each hourglass is different jewel that represents each house. Gryffindore''s are rubies, Ravenclaw''s are sapphires, Slyverin''s are emeralds, and finally Hufflepuff''s are diamonds. It is clear to anyone with eyes that the house with the most points are Slyverin. Over at the Slyverin table the usual few are dripping with a smug self-aggrandizing attitude that its easy to dislike them. This is just a minority however, there are many Slyverin''s who don''t fit the stereotype. Dumbledore arrives to hand out the house cup but before he does his voice echoes within the Great Hall. "Another year gone!, I must trouble you with an old mans waffle before we sink our teeth into our delicious feast". The students except a small vocal minority are almost hypnotized by the headmasters voice. "What a year it has been! Hopefully your heads are a little fuller than they were" Dumbledores eyes directly at Penny, They match each others gaze before he carries on. "You have the whole summer ahead to get them nice and empty before next year starts" many students laugh at the Professor finding this rather amusing. "Now as I understand, the House Cup here needs awarding and the points stand thus: in fourth place, Gryffindore, with three hundred and twelve points, in third, Hufflepuff, with three hundred and fifty-two, Ravenclaw have four hundred and twenty-six, and Slyverin, four hundred and seventy-two". The Slyverin table broke out into a cacophony of cheers. Malfoy banging his goblet on the table looked garnered quite a deal of resentful looks. Dumbledore waited patiently for the cheering to die down. Penny fully aware of what was about to happen watched Malfoy intently. It might sound mean but she wanted to see the exact moment his facial expression will change. "Yes, yes well done, Slyverin, however recent events must be taken into account". The room went silent and Penny almost burst out laughing seeing Malfoy. His face looked as though he had just swallowed a bitter-tasting bug. "Ahem, I have a few last-minute points to dish out. Let me see. Yes.... First to Mr Ronald Weasley". The red-headed Gryffindore face went purple. "For the best-played game of chess Hogwarts has seen in many years, I award Gryyfindore house fifty points". The Gryffindores cheered so loudly that the stars on the enchanted ceiling seemed to shake. "Second- to Miss Hermione Granger.... for cool use of logic in the face of fire, I award Gryffindore house fifty points". As the cheers erupted again Hermioned buried her face in her arms. "Third, to Harry Potter" the room regained an eerie silence, if one listened you would be sure not a single person in the room was breathing at this moment. "For pure nerve and outstanding courage, I award Gryffindor house sixty points" Every student was currently doing mental arithmetic and working out the current standings, The quickest among them realized that Slyverin and Gryffindore were now neck and neck. The chatter in the Great Hall continued. The Slyverin table were yelling their complaints, to them their year-long hard work is being undone by an old man playing favourites. Dumbledore raised his hand causing everyone to fall silent once again. "There are all kinds of courage" said Dumbledore lost in thought. Penny keenly aware of Dumbledore''s history knew he was thinking about someone from his youth who he was forced to confront. "It takes a special type of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends. I therefore award ten points to Mr Neville Longbottom" All the Gryffindores piled upon the shocked young Gryffindore. Everyone hugging Neville their faces filled with rapturous joy that it was almost contagious. The Slyverin''s were voicing their discontent, not one on their table remained silent. With the combined noise that if someone outside said an explosion occurred one would be inclined to agree. "Which means, we need a little change of decoration". In an instant the Slyverin colours and banners were replaced by those of the Gryffindore house. The Ravenclaws who had likewise had a bitter rivalry with Slyverin this year broke out into cheer themselves and the Hufflepuffs likewise joined the cheer. Professor Snape was shaking the hand of Professor McGonagall. Upon his face was the most forced smile. Afterwards the feast began with everyone eating happily. The Slyverin table looked as though they were at a funeral and not an ounce of cheer could be seen.
The following day the exam results are displayed. Penny got top marks in almost every subject, From the looks of it Snape marked her down for deviating from the potion recipe. No doubt as an act of revenge for the times she got the better of him. With her potions grade going against her the one who finished with the highest grades in the year was Hermione. Penny however didn''t really care all that much about finishing top.
