《An Unknown World》 The Prologue Billions of years ago, a universe collided with a being far greater than anyone could ever imagine. Two enormous powers merged into one, twisting and bending existence itself. Out of the chaos, beings with tremendous powers and extensive abilities emerged. Still young and fragile these beings fell into a deep slumber, conserving their energies as they watched over the universe. The most potent beings became planets and stars while less potent ones became comets and asteroids that drifted in space. Throughout the years those planets became inhabited by life. Life forms of all kinds began to worship them. While their powers were suppressed due to their forms, the inhabitants were still influenced by those powers, providing them with energy to strengthen their abilities and enhance their bodies. This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there. Legend says that one day these beings would awaken from their slumber and forge order in the cosmos, eradicating all evil and creating peace and tranquility amongst all beings. One of those beings became home to a species known as humans. This particular entity is far more developed than the rest of its brethren, which allowed them to keep their powers conserved and undisturbed up until this very day. Remaining undetected, the planet continued to provide life and home for humans. Chapter 1 - The Mission Half of his left arm is torn off. There is barely any blood dripping. The tip of the broken bone is visible while the rest of it is covered with his torn flesh. His right hand is tightly gripping a long sword; its blade is pearl white with a very noticeable sharpness that could cut nearly anything. The handle is obsidian black with dark white strands that attach onto the user''s hand, making it harder to drop the sword in battle. The pommel and handguard, golden in color, shone brightly into everyone''s eyes even in the heat of the battle. His Armor is of pure magical silver that never gets dirty or withers. The vivid colors of the shining armor, pommel, and handguard shine from miles away, attracting the attention of both the enemies and allies. Spiral patterns of gleaming gold are engraved all around the Armor. While most of the breastplate is covered with silver, its center has an emblem of an all-seeing eye in a spiky circle entirely made out of gold. The Armor on his torn arm is completely gone, only fragmented pauldron remaining. His name is Recai He holds his right arm up and positions both his legs in a defense stance. There he stands with his feet firmly attached to the ground in front of Ralos who is sitting on a large golden throne. Its arms are polished with a seat made out of the most exotic white fur. The throne is so huge that you could hardly see the top of it. The throne room is empty and does not contain any furniture; it has two windows on each side with massive red curtains covering them. An enormous hole is also seen in the ceiling with rubble right beneath it. Recai¡¯s breath is steaming out of his helmet, and not because of the cold but because he has exceeded his limits both physically and mentally, only his willpower alone keeping him standing. Although a silver helmet covers his face, you could tell that he is exhausted. You could see his bright eyes through the little gaps in the front of the helmet staring at his opponent with full focus. "My offer is still available" A heavy voice echoed throughout the throne room. Recai looked to the shadows in front of him. A tall body entirely covered in armor sitting before him. No weak points to be seen. The metal plating of his armor represents the color of darkness itself while his eyes glimmer of purple color wrapped in the shade. One of his enormous hands tightly grip a massive black sword with a dark purple outline. There are white runes embedded into the blade, enhancing the user and boosting his abilities. The handle and the pommel are of dark greyish color, with a diagonal dark rest striped pattern. The sword has no handguard which is very abnormal as it allows the opponent to strike the wielder¡¯s hand without complications. Although the hand is completely exposed, its absence allows more complex techniques to be performed. His original name is unknown however the aliens call him Ralos The Annihilator. Although Ralos is a human, a lot of people see him as something else. Some say he is a being from another world while others claim that he has been genetically modified to be the perfect human. His abilities dramatically exceed the ones of a human and his physical state has surpassed what was thought to be possible. Not only is he able to freely move with weight over two hundred kilograms, but he is also faster, stronger and more robust than a normal human being. Not much is known about his mental state but it is very clear that it surpasses the humans. Usually Ralos wields two weapons instead of one, the missing weapon is a plasma cannon that was destroyed in the earlier battle between him and Recai. He would use the plasma when his enemy is too far away and switch to a sword in close combat. "Sorry, not interested" Recai responded while still trying to catch his breath from an earlier battle. "Why is that?" Ralos asked with anger in his voice. "Why do you think?" You could not see Recai¡¯s face but it was clear that the question amused him. "I take that as a no" The anger in Ralos¡¯s voice died down as he understood the conversation would prove to be pointless. A moment later Recai''s loud voice could be heard echoing throughout the throne hall once again. Desperately trying to reignite the conversation. "You haven''t answered my question!" I should stall as much time as I can, I need time to recover at least some energy. "...There is no need¡± Ralos replied while his heavy body lifted itself from the throne Shit, I need to stall for a little bit longer or I am fucked. "Come on Ralos. I want to know" Desperation could be heard in Recai''s voice while his hand tightly gripped the sword¡¯s handle. "To cure your curiosity, I thought some part of humanity was still left in you...I was wrong." Fuck humanity. Recai thought, nearly spitting the words through his mouth. "I had. No. Choice!" He grit his teeth as he spat out in anger. But his words could not stop Ralos from readying his weapon once again. As soon as Recai realized that the small talk is over he too prepared his weapon. Ready to take his opponent head-on. His breathing now more stable than before. While Recai''s energy levels have risen since the start, he only has the power to defend and perform one attack. Okay, okay, think, think. I don''t have much energy, so if I attack him right now, he would block and counter me. Due to my injuries, I would not be able to dodge it. What about running? Hmm, no, he would quickly catch up and kill me. He will surely attack again, so I will defend and try to counter him with a powerful blow that will hopefully be enough to kill him. Come on, come at me Ralos, take as much time as you need, the longer you take, the higher my chances of survival. Silence. Only sounds of wind accompanied by noises of a faraway battle. A situation of life and death...Yet the atmosphere feels tranquil. A rather peaceful moment in a long struggle between the two enormous powers. Both opponents are looking at each other with full focus, waiting for one another to make a move. The silence broke with a simultaneous move from both sides. In an instant two glimmering swords clashed with ultimate force, drastically changing the aura of the environment. As the two powers collided, dark and uncontrollable lighting formed around the clashed blades, destroying everything it touched while nearby rubble and rocks became weightless in this now unbelievably tense atmosphere. Their concealed eyes are now gazing at each other as their bodies desperately try to overthrow one another. Recai gripped his sword tightly as he felt Ralos''s enormous power slowly pushing him back. To avoid an unfavorable position Recai quickly disengaged and dashed backward with incredible speed, however his opponent was quick to react and attacked him again keeping the pressure high. Recai kept blocking the attacks while simultaneously fleeing from his opponent, one single misstep and it would be over. The two powers continued clashing with each other, neither making any mistakes. Ralos grew tired of playing cat and mouse and unleashed a shining dark orb from his palm. Aiming for Recai it flew straight at him with unbelievable speed, twisting itself and looping around the hall to confuse the target. Not being able to dodge due to his injuries it exploded as soon as it touched Recai''s body. The smoke from the explosion is now covering the throne hall, without hesitation Ralos attacked blindly through the smoke. Although he had no vision of his opponent he trusted his other four senses to do the work. Ralos struck the blind spot with a mighty blow; as his sword struck the ground all the surrounding smoke and dust instantly cleared. Yet Recai was nowhere to be seen. What!? Confusion spread through Ralos¡¯s mind Not only was Recai uninjured but he managed to get himself behind his confused opponent. He lowered his sword next to his waist and pushed it forward with all his might, trying to perform a successful backstab. Ralos however was quick to realize the situation, he quickly lifted his sword and swung it around with his body, ultimately blocking the backstab and turning himself around. Although Ralos prevented the attack he fled and distanced himself from Recai, awaiting another attack to come flying his way. However no attack came. Ralos examined his opponent more closely and realized that Recai is on his limits. His body is shaking while his eyes are not even focused on Ralos. His golden armor is now losing color and not glowing as vibrant as it used to be. This is my chance He is too tired to dodge any attacks so I will put in all my power into this one blow. If all goes well it should be enough to kill the bastard. Ralos gripped his sword with two hands and charged towards Recai without leaving him time to recover. Ralos¡¯s attack is potent however it has its flaws, its speed is too slow and could be easily dodged by the opponent; however due to Recai''s injuries and inability to move at his usual speed, it could now be performed successfully. Recai knows he will not be able to dodge the blow; he has no other option than to stand still and block it. Both swords clashed with an unbelievable might, sparks of dark lightning could be seen once again flying around the room. Little by little Ralos¡¯s sword pushed Recai back. "HAAAA!!!!¡± With a loud scream, Ralos overthrew Recai and broke his sword in half. Delivering a mighty blow to Recai''s trapezius the blade went through the remaining armor like butter, almost cutting him in half and stopping at his lungs. Without the armor, the blade would undoubtedly cut Recai in half. Recai body remained conscious only for a few seconds after the blow was struck. As his lifeless body began falling Ralos took out his sword and stepped aside watching it drop dead in front of him. A moment later Ralos walked to the front of the body and looked down at it. He positioned his sword at the center of Recai¡¯s body in piercing position, ready to finish the job. ¡°Die¡± Ralos pushed down the sword with little energy he has left for it only to be blocked by an armored hand that appeared out of nowhere. His body got pushed back a few meters while his sword flew in the air and striked the ground beside him. Ralos¡¯s eyes quickly glanced around the room only to find two female humanoids standing beside Recai. One of them is treating his wounds while the other is standing still in a defensive position fully focused on Ralos. With his body posture fixed Ralos pulled the sword from the ground. ¡°You are late to the party¡± He said jokingly while pointing his sword at them The two female humanoids started speaking to each other with neither losing any focus on their tasks. The language is different to humans so Ralos cannot understand what they are saying ¡°Is he alive?¡± ¡°Barely, we need to get him to the temple right now¡± ¡°But what about Ralos!? He should pay for what he did!¡± ¡°Are you mad? We cannot win against him, if Recai can¡¯t none of us can.¡± The humanoid female that is not treating Recai¡¯s wounds grinded her teeth as she looked at Ralos Ralos laughed loudly as he saw the anger in the humanoids eyes. ¡°Are you angry?¡± ¡°Come at me and I will show you what will happen¡± Ralos carries on teasing them even though they do not understand a word he says ¡°Asti let¡¯s go we don¡¯t have time¡± The humanoid that was treating Recai¡¯s wounds said as she put him on her back and shoulders. With Recai safely secured they both swiftly made their escape through the hole in the ceiling, using only feet they easily wall climbed all the way to the top in only few seconds ¡°He is not chasing us?¡± The humanoid that was not carrying Recai said as she looked down at Ralos ¡°Doesn¡¯t matter, we need to get away from here as quick as possible¡± A few moments later the humanoids were out of sight, only a blood puddle left from where they were positioned. Seeing that they were out of sight Ralos put away his sword. Barely able to stand he proceeded towards the door that led to the balcony. The balcony overlooks a substantial part of the land that is covered in forests where an alien race lives. From above no one would be able to tell that the forest is inhabited by life however beneath it all a prosperous city exists. Its streets as well as the houses are all made out of stone with no metal to be seen. On the edge of the town, a large temple is present that is very sacred to the aliens and often is the place where they perform rituals to please their gods. As Ralos came out to the balcony, he could see massive spaceships spitting out fiery napalm that burned everything to ash. You could hear aliens scream in agony as their skin and body burnt to a crisp. You could hear the children''s crying as human soldiers forced their way into their homes, exterminating families like pests. All around the forest hundreds and thousands of aliens are brought together in one big group for an easier extermination. Children, women, men, all dropping to the ground one by one. Their lifeless bodies are then thrown into the nearby fires, decreasing the time needed to clean up after the massacre. The soldiers that are performing these orders are called Exitiums, emotionless elites that will fulfill any request given to them. This mission does not require Exitiums because of their extermination abilities, but because of their mental skills. Unlike a combat marine Exitiums have an unbelievable amount of war experience. If combat Marines are ordered to exterminate newborn as well as unarmed aliens it could potentially affect their mental state, it can also lead to combat Marines letting aliens escape which would be an act of treason. Exitiums are the most loyal soldiers and would never do anything to betray their leaders. Ralos looked all around the land, making sure everything is going according to the plan. Ralos placed his finger on the helmet where his ear is located; a second later a voice could be heard. "Sir?" It was the voice of a captain in charge of the Exitiums "The mission was a success, carry on with the plan" Ralos said in cold voice. His facial expression did not change. No happiness yet sadness is visible on his face. Just emptiness. "Yes Sir" The voice replied, sounding more enthusiastic than before. Ralos lifted his right arm and turned his head towards it, looking straight at the armor that is covering his arm. Not only is the armor equipped with the latest technologies like advanced AI but it is also made out of a rare material called Shadow Bone. Humans found Shadow Bone while exploring planets in their colonization expedition. They decided to explore deep space and stumbled upon a small planet located hundreds of light years away from earth. While the planet was not fit for human civilization, it possessed rich minerals and resources that would greatly benefit humanity. One of the sturdiest materials found on the planet was the Shadow Bone. Not only is it stronger than any material found on earth, but it is also extremely lightweight and versatile. As soon as this material was delivered to earth, scientists were able to reform the material and use it in all kinds of ways. It can be easily mistaken with Carbon due to the color similarities. After examining his armor Ralos let out a deep sigh No one could tell but Ralos was on the verge of defeat when he battled Recai in the throne room. Ralos suffered multiple blows in their previous battles, he pretended that they had no effect on him as not to boost his opponent''s morale, but in reality he nearly lost the fight. This was the first time Ralos went against a strong opponent, a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment spread through him. This battle, as well as his new scars will be a constant reminder. ¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª Ward woke up in the middle of the night in cold sweat; his whole body trembling whiles his mind trying to comprehend his existence. His breathing is rapid while the hearth accelerated beyond normal. He looked around the room but was only greeted with darkness, the eyes yet to adapt. His eardrums could only pick up his roommate''s breathing as well as the sound of the ventilation system in the room. He tried to wipe off the sweat from his forehead but noticed that his hands had clenched the bedsheet refusing to let go. Ward started breathing in and out slowly to try and counter hyperventilation; it seemed to help as a few seconds later his hands have let go off the bedsheets and he was now able to move more freely. He put both of his hands on his face and covered his eyes for a brief moment ¡ª his heart and breathing now more stable. What...was that? What the hell happened to me? This dream. No, a nightmare Felt...so real. Ward heavily exhaled and slowly descended his upper back. His bare skin touching the moist sheet caused by his sweat, while the sensation is uncomfortable, Ward doesn''t care; his mind entirely focused on remembering every single detail from the nightmare. He fell asleep soon after without even noticing.Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author. The spacecraft in which Ward is stationed has been designed to have a lot of small rooms where soldiers can rest. Most rooms would be able to fit two soldiers with ease and also provided space for personal belongings. Lucky for Ward he has been stationed in a bigger room due to communication issues with the HQ. The room¡¯s interior is mostly made out of metal, while it did not give a cozy feeling; it makes the room feel more secure. Other basic human needs are provided in a different area on the ship; the cafeteria is located in the center of the spaceship to provide easy access to all personnel on board, while lavatories are scattered across the spacecraft. "Ward..." a quiet voice whispered. A few seconds later the quiet voice transformed into a loud shout. "Ward!" Wards body felt heavy and lazy, his muscles still sore from yesterday''s exercise. He slowly opened his eyes and then turned to a side. He could not identify the figure in front of him due to sleep inertia and the darkness in the room, but his ears recognized the voice "Come on man, you going to be late to the assembly.¡± A now more familiar voice could be heard once again With Ward''s mind slowly waking up every second, he recognized the silhouette standing in front of him; it was his roommate Lewis. Lewis is of average height, medium build, and light complexion. His hair is short, bright and blonde. His flat cheeks are covered with freckles while his lips are pale and small. The eyes however take all the attention. His iris is of dark blue with lingering colors of grey, it is notably easier to see his iris due to the broad shape of his eyes. While Lewis is an outgoing person, he is very short tempered. It reached to the point where he had to take professional help back on earth to control his temper. "What time is it?¡± Ward slowly muttered. "It''s 6:30 am. We have an assembly in 30 Minutes." Every Monday morning all soldiers on the spacecraft are assembled to receive commands. It is also time where soldiers can send and receive messages from family and friends. Soldiers do not carry personal communication devices as they are unable to communicate on vast distances. "Do I really need to attend it?¡± Ward said with a yawn, his hands now crossed and tucked behind his head on a pillow. "Of course you do, it''s an order from the captain¡± Lewis replied with a more serious tone. "It''s just a waste of time. Cleaning lavatory is more useful than this" Ward said half-jokingly Of course, that''s not what he thought; Ward knew that assemblies were essential in this situation. They kept the morale high as people receive heart-warming messages from their family and friends. The assemblies also enabled soldiers to receive important commands from HQ in one go. The real reason Ward did not like the assemblies is that no one was there so sent messages to him. His family does not care about him, and he barely had any friends while he was living on earth, so no one ever sends him messages. "Come on, chop-chop¡± With those words Lewis energetically walked out of the room. This guy has too much energy - A thought passed Ward''s mind. With the help from his hands Ward slowly lifted his body off the bed and stood up, his bare feet felt the cold metal floor while his body shivered from the cold. He grabbed his old clothes that were hanging on a chair and put them on. After dressing up, he turned around and reached for the new pair of green clothes from the small cupboard below his bed. These clothes were a pair of boxers, trousers, shirt, socks, and boots. The clothes are provided by the army, while they lack design, the quality is remarkable. With new clothes in his hand, Ward headed for the door to the corridor. Ward stepped out and turned right without hesitation; he has been on the ship for a month now so he knows his way around the corridors pretty well. The hallways themselves are quite extensive and mostly empty as the majority of people are already in the main hall waiting for the assembly to start. When Ward arrived at the lavatory, he took off his clothes and used laundry shoot to throw them away. All of the dirty clothes get washed at the end of the week, it doesn''t matter if they get mixed up as the spacecraft crew cleans and dispenses the clothes based on size around the rooms. Ward stepped into the shower shutting the curtains behind him, only one button present in front of him. With a light press cold water began pouring down on his bare body, slowly turning warm to his satisfaction. He proceeded to have a casual shower and scrub his body clean. Ward would usually have long and thoughtful showers, but due to the assembly this was not possible. After showering, his naked body left the small shower cabin and he proceeded to dry himself with a dry white towel that was hanging on a hook next to him. His body is skinny yet very sturdy and fit, he doesn''t have much visible chest or pubic hair. Only a small trail of hair is visible going down from his bellybutton to his genitals. After drying his body, he put on his new clothes and proceeded to the sink to brush his teeth. His hands firmly gripped the edges of the sink so his body could rest while his brown eyes met the mirror''s reflection. His short black hair is still wet from the earlier shower while his body is mostly dry. Lucky enough Ward does not possess any scars or battle marks on his body although a small scar is present next to his right cheek. Upon a better inspection of his face Ward found some crust next to his eyes that have not been washed away by the shower, he filled his hands with water and splashed his face while trying to pick out all the crust with his fingers. Next to the sink is a basket full of identical disposable toothbrushes and few tubes of toothpaste, all of the toothbrushes are individually wrapped in their own wrappers to prevent contamination. Ward took one of the toothbrushes and processed to brush his teeth. Hmm, I wonder what the new orders are. It¡¯s most likely another delivery mission as always. I hate this. I didn''t sing up for scouts to deliver cargo. False advertisement at its finest. Ward spat out a mixture of saliva, toothpaste, and blood on to the sink, he then cupped his hands and filled them with water to rinse out his mouth. Blood again, I should visit a dentist when I get back to earth. Now that I can afford one. After brushing his teeth, Ward threw the disposable toothbrush in the bin and looked at his watch. Hmm.6:49, I still have time to get some breakfast Ward stepped into the empty corridor and started walking to the cafeteria. As he walks the empty corridors a feeling of tranquility came upon him, the sound of silence is what Ward loved, and this is the only time he could enjoy it. As he approached the cafeteria, an extensive menu sign next to the entrance showed all the menus of each day. The menu Monday ¨C Spaghetti and Meatballs Tuesday ¨C Sweet Potatoes and Curry Wednesday - Chicken, and Rice Thursday ¨C Beef Stew Friday ¨C Pizza and Ice Cream as a Desert Saturday ¨C Pasta and Chicken Sunday ¨C Fish, and Rice Due to the modern technology soldiers would only need to have one meal a day. One technology advanced meal can easily substitute three regular meals that people have back on earth. Not only is it more convenient to serve this food due to its properties, but it also saves a lot of space in the spacecraft as fewer ingredients are needed to be stored. The cafeteria would serve different food every day however the breakfast would always be the same. Toast and Eggs. As Ward entered the cafeteria the smell of eggs and toasts filled his nostrils. The cafeteria itself is filled with dining tables and chairs that are all placed in a line, a couple of these lines are spread out equally through the cafeteria, saving a lot of space and allowing easy access to the serving desk and exit. All the way in the back is the serving desk where people would get their food. The cafeteria is practically empty today as most people have already left for the assembly. There are about five people in the cafeteria, two of them are part of the navigation crew while the other three are engineers. Ward walked to the desk where he found out that all of the food was already out for him to take. He took one toast without a plate to eat on the go and headed out for the exit. The time is 6:55 am. Ward is on his way to the main hall while chewing on the last part of the toast. As he walked through corridors, his eyes would always look to the side where the windows are located. All he could see is a vast amount of space, stars and one planet in the distant. His mind is always wrapped with thoughts of leaving everything and flying away to a distant unknown world where no one would know who he is, to start a new life and live by your own rules. Thoughts like that would often cross his mind. With his eyes still focused on the stars outside, he sighed powerlessly while acknowledging that these thoughts were nothing more than a small dream of his. Ward slapped his cheeks to get his mind straight and carried on walking to the main hall. ¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª "Attention!¡± A loud voice was heard throughout the hall. It came from Captain William who is in charge of the platoon. The captain is a tall bald man with black complexion; he has few scars on his face showing that he has a lot of experience in combat. He is also in possession of a scary aura around him, indicating that he is not to be joked around with. He is standing on a small platform that is located all the way at the back of the hall. The platform allows him to be heard and seen better by everyone in the assembly hall. As soon as the soldiers heard the voice, they all lined up in three separate horizontal lines. "As some you may have heard we have received a new command from the HQ last night. We are to land and investigate a new planet by the code name Nealon 4. We are to land in one week¡± The captain¡¯s eyes glanced around the room before he continued to speak. "There are a lot of messages from earth this week, if you believe you have one, stay in the hall, if not you are dismissed!" "Yes, Sir!¡± All the soldiers shouted in unison Ward was really excited by the news. The main reasons why he joined the scout unit in the first place were to explore the universe. While he and his unit did land on planets before, they are yet to explore an entirely new world where humanity has never been. Everyone including Ward has to undergo different physical exercises while being on board the spacecraft, this rule was created so soldiers would always be physically fit and ready for immediate deployment. Ward, now with a positive mental attitude set off to his room. As soon as he started walking through the corridors thoughts once again took over his mind and he arrived at his room without even realizing. Upon arriving Ward laid down on his bed and took out his favorite book that was hidden under his bed. He quickly flipped through some pages, searching for the chapter he was on yesterday. Upon finding the chapter and reading the first word Ward''s mind transported to a different world. Without even realizing an hour has passed and his reading was interrupted by his watch''s beeping. Already huh? - Ward thought while looking at his watch. Every day before gym Ward goes to the shooting range to practice his aim. He closed his book and placed it back below his bed where no one could see it. He got up from laying position and sat on his bed, his hands stretched while his mouth let out a yawn. Due to the reading session Wards body felt heavy and lazy so it took him a few moments before he forced his body to stand up. Ward left his room and proceeded to the shooting range via the corridors, the shooting range is not far and is located near the cargo bay so it would take 15 minutes to get there at most. Unlike other parts of the spaceship, shooting range is equipped with small security personnel to check if any guns or parts are stolen. The security check does not take long; one only needs to walk through metal detector upon entrance and exit. Before Ward entered the shooting range he could already hear shots being fired, ranging from small hand gun to heavy machine guns. Ward passed the security check and entered the shooting range where he had to choose the weapon of his choice, as well as some ear protection against now ear-piercing shots. All of the weapons are laid out on the table so without hesitation Ward picked a massive sniper rifle called Vera-16. Vera-16 is a powerful sniper rifle that is capable of penetrating many surfaces with one shot. While its power is impressive it does have its share of problems; the gun is not mobile as it is incredibly heavy, it takes a long time to reload, and it makes a lot of noise once someone fires it. The gun is perfect to take out a target from a long distance, that''s one of the reasons why this gun is favorite among the assassins. Ward laid on his stomach, his breathing still while his right eye is looking through the scope. A target 300 meters away. First shot fired Headshot Five seconds later another loud shot is fired Headshot again Ward''s accuracy is remarkable and one of the best in his platoon. He would often practice with the gun so much that he started to develop dead skin on his fingers. Even back when Ward was a kid he loved playing around in his grandfather''s armory, trying out new guns and keeping up with the latest weapon news. To this day it is still Wards passion, a dangerous one but a true one. Ward¡¯s watch beeped again, informing him that he needs to finish the target practice and head for the gym. As he stood up, you could see that his elbows and arms have turned red due to the weapons weight pressing down on him while he was laying down. Ward picked up the heavy sniper rifle and set it back to its default setting with safety on. He placed the gun back on the table near the entrance where he originally picked it up. After a swift security check Ward found himself once again in the corridors, this time making his way to the gym. Attending the gym every day is part of the soldier''s duties; skipping exercise would lead to a lot of trouble with the HQ and the captain. The fastest route to the gym is to walk through the living quarters where soldiers rest. Some of the rooms are open, indicating that someone is currently inside the room, be it resting or socializing with their roommate. Ward walked through silent corridors, reminding him of scary movies he used to watch as a kid. Near the end of the corridor however Ward could hear voices coming from one of the open rooms. A conversation? Ward thought. The closer he got to the room the better he could understand the now less inaudible talk. As soon as Ward was in range to hear the conversation perfectly, his footsteps slowed down. He is now fully eavesdropping the conversation and occasionally looking back to make sure no one is present behind him. Ward could not see their faces but their voices are quiet similar, with one being a tiny bit heavier than the other Same age perhaps¡? ¡ It''s not really eavesdropping if they are loud right? Ward thought as he reassured his actions. ¡°I miss Anna¡± A more soft voice said "Your girlfriend?" A heavier voice replied "Yeah man. I haven''t seen her for a whole year now. I wonder how she''s been lately." "She not sending you messages?" "She is, but you know messages are one thing but talking to her face to face is completely different. Plus messages cannot be long, only about 100 words or so." A short paused in a conversation before the other person continued to speak. In that short pause Ward experience a small heart attack as he thought he was exposed for eavesdropping. "They said that after this mission we will have few weeks off and will be able to visit earth" "I heard the same thing last mission and yet here I am" "Really?...Weren''t you mad?¡± A surprise could be heard in the man¡¯s voice, it is very uncommon for a soldier not to be sent back to earth after a mission. "I mean, it was quite vexing, but I didn''t really have any plans back on earth, so I kinda got over it" "You don''t have a girlfriend right?" "Nah, but I did meet this one cutie back in the HQ" The HQ is located on Mars and goes by the name Eos Foundation. Eos Foundation is in charge of human colonization, from sending scout units to infantry with war mechs. "When did you have time to visit HQ?" "Last month I was sent there to help transport cargo to our ship" "¡and how was it?" "The HQ?" "Yeah" "It was huge. They have multiple bases all around mars with the biggest one being in the center.¡± "Damn, that¡¯s cool" "Yeah, I think it was even bigger than the base back on earth." "I wish I had a mission like that." "You probably will in the future. ¡° ¡ ¡°So what about the girl." "Oh yeah. So, I am there you know, minding my own business waiting for the cargo to be loaded and then this cutie approaches me, I believe she is working as the cargo inspector? I am not too sure, but she is the person that makes sure I''ve got all the correct cargo loaded." "and?" "What you mean and? I double checked everything and went on with my business." "Wow really? You didn''t even ask for her number?" "Why would I? The chances of me meeting her again are so fucking slim and plus, how would I call her? The signal doesn''t reach that far" "I guess you right...or you just pussied out." "I am not John mate¡± The man chuckle They both laughed and started talking about a different topic as Ward hastily passed the open the door to avoid suspicion. While the conversation did not hold much interest, it made Ward think. The fact that you could laugh with someone, share your experiences and tales is what Ward misses. His whole life he did not have a lot of friends, but he still enjoyed talking to people about his life. His entire childhood Ward grew up without making friends, while he did make few mates when he attended the high school, they didn''t last long as their interests shifted away over time. Ward real friend was his grandfather; he would often spend time with him in his armory and try out new guns with him. His grandfather served in the military and would often teach Ward the means of war and tactics. They would often spend time at the shooting range where Ward sharpened his accuracy and learned how to handle different guns. From plasma rifles to mechanical pistols. "Remember Ward, making friends on the battlefield is like digging a hole, the deeper you dig the harder it is to get back up." Ward remembered his grandfather''s words and avoided making any friends on the spacecraft. Yet the loneliness gets to him. ¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª Ward finally arrived at the gym and began his regular exercise. The gym has a lot of different equipment, from treadmills to complex body machines. Wards usual routine is forty minutes on cardio and twenty minutes on legs and arms. Cardio essential for scouts, when exploring a planet being able to run for a long time will save one¡¯s life. As a scout you have to exercise for one hour once per day, between 8 am - 7 pm. To make sure that the soldiers exercise, the gym equipment is equipped with a tracker that will record the soldiers time on the machine. To use the equipment soldiers have to scan their fingerprint and wait for the tracker to respond. As soon as the tracker confirms the soldier''s identity, the equipment automatically unlocks. Tracker sends all the data gathered to the HQ where they see if someone is slacking off or not performing. Ward started running on the treadmill, increasing speed every 2 minutes. After achieving his desirable speed, he began imagining the future and his perfect life. "Who is he?" A villager asked, his clothes tattered and his body weak from starvation "His name is Ward." A different villager said "Ward the Defender of mankind?" "It is I Villagers. I will slay this evil beast and protect you all." A Knight said, standing strong while his silver armor reflects lights like a mirror. A 3-meter beast stood in front of him with a sharp look in its eyes, its fur is of brown color with uncountable scars and old wounds. The beast''s claws are deadly sharp while its teeth resemble the ones of a shark. If one to look at the creature a picture of a bear would come to mind, not a typical one but a mutant that is standing on two legs like a human. Its mouth is wide open with thick saliva dripping to the ground resembling a hungry predator looking at its pray. A moment of silence before the battle between a man and a fiend. All the villagers are gone, watching the fray from the distance. Without warning, the beast flung its heavy body towards the hero, its massive arm with a sharp claw struck the heroes blade pushing him back a few meters. The hero did not expect the attack to be this fast due to the beast''s body weight. One must not underestimate his opponent. As soon as the hero got pushed back, another attack came not giving him a chance to regroup. This time instead of blocking the beasts attack hero decided to dodge and not spend energy on blocking. The heroes speed is substantially greater so avoiding the attacks did not prove to be a problem. Another missed swing from the beast. The hero quickly moves around the creature creating mirror images and confusing it while looking for openings. The beast''s patience came to an end as it screeched in anger, with a roar the beast went into frenzy mode becoming faster and stronger with each second. The hero saw this opportunity and with one quick move pierced his sword through the thick fur right into the heart. However¡ª *BEEP* Suddenly a loud beep came from the treadmill, interrupting Wards daydreaming session. A moment later treadmill started slowing down before stopping completely. Ward looked at his watch and realized that 40 minutes have passed. Oh, come on! I was getting to the good part. Ward thought as he stepped off the treadmill, his legs feeling funny as to yet understand that he is not moving anymore. He wiped off the sweat with his shirt and headed to a different sector in the gym, where he began his typical arms and legs exercise. *BEEP* Another beep coming from a watch this time, informing Ward that the time for gym was over. He glanced at his watch one more time to confirm the time and headed for the exit. Lunch starts at 12 pm and ends at 1:30 pm. On his way to the cafeteria Ward visited his room to change shirts; he kept the old one in his hand to throw away at the nearest lavatory. Upon entering the cafeteria, the smell of meatballs and tomato quickly rushed to his nose, making his mouth water in an instant. He promptly slurped up the saliva so no one could see his dribbling mouth. The cafeteria itself is full of soldiers, nearly all of them are in their small groups, slightly reminding Ward of his high school days where all the kids would form their small groups. Ward walked to the counter where the cooking staff served food. He grabbed a plate with a tray and stood in line. It wasn''t long until Ward''s plate was full of food with a cup of water on the side. He sat down on his own and started eating his food before beginning to daydreaming again. As usual, soldiers would give Ward the looks; some would look at Ward with sympathy while new soldiers were curious. Back when he first joined the scouts people approached him, inviting him to their table at the cafeteria and trying to talk to him, yet Ward denied them all. Over time they stopped approaching him and let him mind his own business. Ward finished his food and placed the dirty plate on top of other dishes that would then be washed by the kitchen staff. Current time is 12:30 pm so he still had 30 minutes of free time before he would be assigned a task. These tasks vary from helping out in the kitchen to transporting cargo across the ship. Every two days soldiers have a combat examination. Combat examination includes a physical test, weapon maintenance test, and first aid test. All soldiers should be able to complete them without a problem; if one fails to do so extra lessons would be assigned in the field that they failed in. ¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª Ward set off to his room to carry on reading one of his favorite books called "Planets" by Early Kady. The book is an autobiography of a famous scientist-explorer who explored thousands of planets in his lifetime. The book contains statements that could not be explained by science or logic. After Kady released his autobiography he went on another journey across the space but did not return. Due to his sudden disappearance many conspiracy theories have been created, some even claiming that the government ordered for Kady¡¯s disappearance as he leaked top secret government information. The only thing that is left is his autobiography that many people believe to be a key to finding his location. After a quick read Ward headed to the assembly hall where he would receive tasks for the day. Upon arriving at the assembly hall Ward stood in line and waited for his turn to receive the task. At the start of the line, a member of the captain crew is present with a list of names and assignments. The assignments range from spacewalks with engineers to cleaning lavatories and helping out in the kitchen. "Next!" A man shouted while waiting for a different soldier to approach him. He is holding a clipboard with dozen of sheets. "Name?" The man said without lifting his eyes off the sheet "Ward" The man flipped through the sheets while pointing his finger at the names. "Ward.Ward.Ward. Got it. You are to help engineers today. Meet the engineer''s supervisor at the cargo bay." Ward nodded and proceeded to leave the assembly hall ¡°Next!¡± With the new task, Ward set out to the cargo bay where engineers office is located; it is about 10 minute walk from the assembly hall. Cargo bay is a bustling location; it serves a very important role in the spacecraft as all the equipment as well as provisions for soldiers are stored there. It is also important to pay attention when walking through the cargo bay, accidents involving mechs happen very often. Ward entered the cargo bay seeing a lot of people running around, everyone moving with haste trying to complete their tasks in time. Small man-operated mechs are also present in the cargo bay. Their primary objective is to carry heavy cargo and help around with heavy loads. They look very different to war mechs; they do not have any armor or any weapons, only different types of claws that help them carry cargo around the bay. They are also way smaller when compared to war mechs, making them more effective in the spacecraft. Ward proceeded through the bay with care, trying not to get in the way of people working. He approached the small and portable office, its door wide open with one person sitting inside. The main inside is sitting opposite the door but is too busy looking at the monitor to notice Ward approach. Ward knocked on the open door with his knuckles, trying to catch the person¡¯s attention. "Hello, is this engineers office?" Ward said as soon as he saw the man notice him "Yes it is, are you assigned to help out here today?" "Yes," Ward said with a nod. ¡°What is your name?¡± ¡°Ward¡± ¡°All right just a sec¡± The man said while entering the name into the system. Sometimes soldiers get mixed up and complete tasks that were not assigned to them. In order to prevent that, all the names are passed through to the supervisors who checks if the soldier is in the right place. "Perfect, my name is Kapor. I am one of the supervisors," "A group of engineers will come here shortly, and your task is to help them out, be it bringing them tools that they need or helping them repair equipment. Got it?" "Yes Sir" Ward replied without hesitation. "I will wait outside the office until their arrival." Kapor looked back into the computer screen as Ward left the office 5 minutes later Ward had seen three engineers approach and entered the office; inaudible talk could be heard from the inside of the office, a few minutes later the engineers walked outside. They were all roughly the same height. They wore steel toe shoes with light yellow workwear dungarees and bright yellow hi-vis bomber jackets. They are also equipped with safety helmets and goggles. "Your name Ward?" The man in the middle said "Yes" Ward replied as fast as he could "Perfect" With the confirmation, they hastily started walking, Ward barely able to keep up. "Did Kapor tell you what you need to do?" The same man asked "Yeah, I have been informed of my tasks." "All right great." "Let me introduce everyone. My name is Tommy I am the head engineer of this group, the guy on my left is Bobby." "What up dude, you can call me Bob," Bobby said with energetic voice, he is the shortest of them all, he has a large ginger beard and short ginger hair "And on my right is Charles." "Nice to meet you," A rather calm and smooth voice compared to others. Charles, on the other hand, is the tallest and the skinniest of the trio, he has long black hair and stubble black beard. Tommy himself is of average height. His blonde hair is tied up in a ponytail, and unlike his co-workers his chin is cleanly shaven. After the short introduction, the crew began talking about the tasks they had to fulfill today between themselves. Ward did not pay much attention to the conversation and carried on walking with them whilst thinking to himself. "Ward" Tommy called out. "Hmm?" Ward snapped out of his thoughts "We are heading to the medical bay right now; we got a lot of tasks ahead of us today. So get ready." "Got it" Ward replied ¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª Throughout the day, Ward followed the engineers. They''ve completed a lot of tasks all around the spacecraft, most of them were pretty dull and it is now time for the last task of the day. "All right! Our last task is to fix one of the radio antennas outside the spacecraft" Tommy said while walking to the deployment chamber. "Ward, have you been out on the spacewalks?" "No" "Well today is your lucky day, cause your ass is going out there and helping us out." "...Got it" Ward replied with uncertainty. He has never been outside the ship; this is all pretty new to him. Instead of using the main exit of the deployment chamber, engineers have a separate door to the outer space available only to them. They arrived at a small room filled with spacesuits. These spacesuits are thin costumes that would wrap themselves around the body, unlike the spacesuits of the old generation these are far more technologically advanced. The material aids in optimizing the conditions inside the suit to ensure the person survival no matter what the conditions of the environment are. For example, you will not feel a difference when entering a new environment, be it change in temperature/pressure or radiation. The material is also very light and does not require one to undergo specialized training to wear it. All of the suits are of orange color with retroreflective strips wrapped around the suit. Ward put on the suit as well as some special boots made out of the same material. There is no need for helmets, as space air regulators exist. When these advanced air regulators are connected to the spacesuit, they release energy that wraps around a person''s head, allowing them to breathe and communicate through the radio without the need of a helmet and an oxygen tank. The air regulator is also implemented with an advanced A.I. Not only does it track the person''s condition, it also displays the conditions of the environment that the person is in. As soon as Ward equipped the air regulator, a robotic voice started talking. Body temperature - 36.8¡ãC Hear rate - 84 BPM Blood pressure - Stable Neurotransmitters levels - Normal Before heading out they all lined up in a line and attached a sturdy long cable to each other¡¯s spacesuits. The person in front of the line has to connect the cable to the spacecraft and ensure everyone''s safety. With all the equipment in check they entered the airlock. Tommy approached a keypad next to the door that led to the outer space. After few presses of a button the door behind them closed and a few moments later the door in front of them opened, causing the engineers and Ward to start floating. Tommy is the first one out of the spacecraft as he is the captain, without hesitation he secured the cable to the outer layer of the spaceship ensuring everyone¡¯s safety Ward looked around for a moment. Seeing hundreds of shining stars nearly blinded his eyes. Ward has never seen such a scenery before, while he does look out of the window in the spacecraft, much of the view is limited. Out here in the open, it''s completely different. "I have never seen so many stars in one place..." Wards mouth slipped his thoughts "Pretty amazing am I right?" Bob said with a laugh "Yeah..." Ward nodded while still looking at the stars "We are not here to sightsee, get moving you two" Tommy gave out an order. Bob, Ward, and Charles are all following Tommy, after all he is the head engineer and has the most experience in the group, and it is clearly shown as he moves without hesitations, knowing exactly where to go and what to do. Ward also noticed how massive the spaceship is, while it was stationed back on earth he didn''t pay too much attention, so he didn''t notice that the ship was this large. Tommy suddenly stopped with the group to follow "Here it is," He said while pointing down at the antenna. This antenna is a large white circle with a pointy middle; it blocks out unauthorized signals from the outer space. A lot of these antennas are stationed all around the spacecraft; this one seems to be the one making interference. Tommy got closer to the antenna and opened a small box that was next to it. The box contains all the wires and transistors needed for the antenna to function. "Hmm, the wires froze when we were traveling through a colder part of space, they are now unfrozen but the damage has already been done," Tommy said while digging through them. "How long is it going to take to fix?" Ward asked "It¡¯s very quick as this is pretty common. Ward can you pass me the toolbox?" Tommy said while reaching his hand out to Ward. Ward took the toolbox and passed it to Tommy, as soon as the toolkit was in his possession he opened it and dug through it for a couple of seconds before pulling few dark blue wires. He then closed the toolbox and left it floating next to him. Ward reached out and grabbed it back while other engineers were focused on helping out Tommy with the wires. Ward can¡¯t help the engineers as he is not qualified enough, so to pass few minutes he decided to examine the stars around him. Before he knew it the engineers have already fixed the antenna. "Yo Ward" Bob called out. "Hmm?" Ward shifted his look "We have finished, it¡¯s time to head back." "Already?" "Yeah, as Tommy said this is a quick one." "Oh I see there wasn''t much for me to do after all" Ward chucked "Don''t worry about it, you helped us out a lot earlier today, plus who else is going to carry the toolbox" Bob laughed with a pat on Ward''s shoulder. Ward fake laughed and processed to follow Tommy, who is once again in front of the line. After arriving at the airlock, Ward quickly changed and approached Tommy. "So are we finished?" "Yeah, we are pretty much finished for today." "That means I can go back to my quarters?¡± "Yeah, as I said we are finished for today." "All right then, see you guys" Ward waved at Charles and Bobby. "See ya ward," "Bye," ¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª Current time is 8 pm, one hour before lights out. Ward arrived at his room and noticed that his roommate Lewis is missing, he didn¡¯t pay too much attention to that and grabbed a clean towel from his bag. Knowing Lewis he is probably talking to his new friends. Ward thought Ward left the room and headed to the lavatory. Upon arrival he looked at himself in the mirror and started brushing his teeth with one of the disposable toothbrushes. After brushing his teeth and rinsing his mouth he threw the toothbrush away and headed back to his room. Upon arrival he noticed him roommate Lewis lying in bed reading a book. Ward began undressing, leaving only t-shirt and pants on. He walked to a chair and started folding his clothes in a neat pile "How was your day?" Lewis asked "It was all right, helped the engineers today." "That''s cool...You know, I always see you sitting alone in the cafeteria, and you don''t really talk to anyone. If you don''t mind telling me, why don''t you make friends?" "...I don''t really know, I guess I am just a lonely type" Ward said with a smile. "I see..." Lewis replied shifting his eyes back to the book With the conversation now reached a dead end, Ward''s exhausted body laid down on the bed. His hand reached under the bed and grabbed a book. For the rest of the free time Ward¡¯s mind has been immersed into the book and he didn¡¯t even notice that forty minutes have passed. As soon as the lights turned off Ward closed the book and put it under his bed. He closed his eyes and started imagining perfect future once again before soundlessly falling asleep. ¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª¡ª The rest of the week went by pretty fast, and it was now Sunday night. Tomorrow is the day of the deployment. Ward is in his room trying to concentrate on finishing the books chapter, but the excitement about the deployment doesn''t seem to stop. Throughout the week Ward kept imagining what the planet is going to be like. Without even noticing he built up all the excitement in his head. Finally we will land on the planet. I wonder if I will find any alien life, what if they are hostile? Well if they are hostile then I will have no choice but to defend myself. I mean come on that¡¯s the main reason they teach shooting here. If we are to find human life will they look like us? Like humans? The HQ said that they are unsure about the oxygen on the planet so we will have to take precautions and take oxygen tanks with us. Although that doesn¡¯t make sense, how are they unsure with the technology they have. Ah never mind it anyways. What will be really annoying is to carry it, but I don''t really care. I really want to visit the planet. Why am acting like a child that is about to go on his first field trip? I should calm down and¡ª "What you up to Ward? " His line of thought was interrupted by Lewis. "I bet you are pretty excited about the expedition." "What makes you say that?¡± Ward replied with a surprised tone. "Well you have been a lot livelier since the captain announced the mission earlier this week¡± Ward indeed has been very positive since the mission¡¯s announcement; he smiled more and looked happier in general. "Hmm, I guess so. I haven''t been to other planets before, so this is pretty new to me...It''s actually a little bit scary. What if we find a hostile race that will attack us?" "Don''t worry about it, I have been to a lot of different planets and expeditions, the chance of us finding a new race is very slim, it will most likely be an empty planet." Although Ward was disappointed with Lewis¡¯s words, he did not want to show it, so his facial expression did not change. "All right then. Thanks for talking about it¡± Ward smiled "No problem dude" With those words Lewis climbed the small ladder to his bed that was above and went to sleep. As soon as the lights turned off, Ward placed his unfinished book under the bed in its usual spot and tucked himself in bed, wrapping his body in a thin duvet and resting his head on a flat pillow. Before his mind fell asleep, one last thought passed Ward''s mind. The chance of finding a new race is slim you say? Let''s hope that''s not the case on this planet. End of Chapter 1 Chapter 2 - Orbital Descent Chapter 2 ¨C Orbital Descent It is now the day of the deployment, Ward did not get much sleep as his thoughts had kept him awake and energized. His excitement seems to have no end, to the point where all of the risks escaped his head. Investigating an alien planet comes with its own dangers and difficulties. The planet may well be home to a very hostile life form or be uninhabitable for humans. There are 2 operations for such expeditions. The way the operations are executed depends on whether or not the planet is habitable. Operation one is to exterminate all non-human life forms, and operation 2 is to try to make the planet habitable for humans. If operation two must be carried out and is done so successfully, operation one will be executed after it so that the whole planet is suitable for humans. Other factors are involved for the decision making such as; how many resources the planet carries, or how many people can the planet inhabit. To begin the expedition, a few ships of scouts are assigned to the planet. The scouts are accompanied by several scientists who will ensure the planet is habitable and suitable for human life. Operation Imperare (Operation one) If a non-human life form is found, HQ are immediately notified. Depending on the planet¡¯s size as well as what the scouts report back, the government would decide if the planet is worth taking over. If the planet is deemed valuable, then operation Imperare would be executed. Legions of combat marines would be sent to eliminate all non-human life forms. As soon as the planet becomes safe to humans the colonization process begins. Operation Reficientes (Operation two) If the planet is uninhabitable by humans but contains a lot of resources the government would consider operation Reficientes. If the operation is taken into action, scouts, combat marines and scientists are all sent to the planet. The combat marines¡¯ main objective would be to protect the scientists while the scouts explore the planet for any sign of non-human life. If scientists find a way of making the planet inhabitable a base would be built. The base is used to transport resources from HQ into the planet allowing scientists to change the planet¡¯s environment using the most advanced technologies.
A loud and quick alarm went off across the sleeping quarters, awakening all soldiers from their sleep. Ward, however, was already wide awake, both his mind and body ready for the deployment day. As soon as the sound of the alarm reached his eardrums, his body almost spontaneously stood up from the bed and started dressing up. In no time his wrinkly clothes could be seen resting on his body while his shoes are yet to be put on properly. His eyes looked up soon to be followed by his now tilted head. A short distance above him a bed is located, one side of the bed is built into a wall while the other side has a thick rod that is attached to the ceiling and the bed. Upon looking at the bed he saw his roommate Lewis still asleep, usually, he would be the first one awake instead of Ward, but today is different. "Lewis!" Ward called out,not too loud but enough to wake him up. As Lewis''s eyes slowly open, he lets out a yawn while his arms stretch out, nearly touching the ceiling above him.Upon seeing Ward, a surprised expression appeared on his face, while his arms pushed against the bed and his body began resting on the bed''s edge. His feet dangle while his mouth opens to lets out another yawn. "Never thought I''d see the day when YOU are waking me up." Lewis said with humour in his voice while one of his hands started rubbing his one of his eyes. "First time for everything" Ward said with a chuckle "Yeah... How come you up so early? You usually get up thirty minutes after the alarm, or when I wake you up" "Excited for the deployment I guess" "That explains it. All right imma get up then, thanks for the wake-up call" "No problem" After a short conversation, Ward grabbed his new clothes and headed for the showers. The spaceships corridors are as busy as ever, mostly due to the fact that the alarm has gone off not too long ago and it is the deployment day After a quick shower Ward headed for the cafeteria where the usual breakfast and meals are served. The cafeteria however operates differently on the deployment day. Instead of the usual eggs and toast, the cafeteria would server a special type of food. A highly technologically advanced meal that upon consumption, vastly reduces the time for one to be in need of food. Unlike the usual daily meals at the cafeteria, this meal, in particular, will stop hunger and dehydration for three days without causing starvation. The main reason why these meals are served on the deployment day is in case of an emergency. If scout unit becomes trapped on a planet for whatever reason, among weeks of rations on them they would also have three extra days where they would not feel hunger, so no rations would need to be wasted. The rations themselves are also technologically advanced, just like the usual meals in the cafeteria upon consumption an average human would not feel hunger for one whole day. Upon entering the cafeteria Ward quickly noticed the number of people present, usually he would be late to breakfast which allowed him to avoid mass amount of soldiers. Is it due to the deployment or is it because he is on time for breakfast he does not know, but seeing this number of people does give him discomfort. Without paying too much attention Ward headed for the serving desk where they would usually give out meals. He grabbed a plate and started waiting in the queue to be served. Usually, the queue would begin in the middle of the cafeteria but due to a high number of people waiting in line, the queue has been shifter next to a wall, freeing up the middle of the cafeteria and allowing people to move more freely. Standing next to a wall allowed Ward to have a good look at the cafeteria as a whole. Not only were the scout unit present but also a few scientists, they arrived a few days ago and are to deploy with everyone today. When thinking about scientist one might imagine a scrawny person in a white lab coat, but this is far from reality. Their bodies are both strong and mighty while their Armor suits are the best humanity can offer. They are often mistaken for Eversors due to their ferocious look and massive Armor suits. Although their look might say otherwise, under all that heavy Armor a very powerful mind is located, capable of solving the hardest questions and solutions. Damn, that''s a lot of soldiers, I guess everyone is assembled today, including the spaceship crew and newly arrived scientists. Excluding scientists is it always like this on breakfast days? The number of people...God Ward lookeda around once again. Now that I look at it there are no women around, only men. I guess it would be better as little to no relationships can be formed while on duty. No wonder they all talk about banging girls when they get back on earth. Ward focused his eyes on captain that was sitting with the spaceship crew on one of the tables. Captain William, I wonder what kind of stuff he''s been through. Some rumours say that he got his scars when he was ambushed by a group of predators on an unexplored planet, while others say that he underwent harsh training back on earth, even to the point of him being beaten half to death. No one wants to ask him as everyone is afraid of him, and those who do have enough courage to ask, get ignored, usually followed by harsh tasks set by the captain. I personally don''t really care what he''s been through, I just want to know if he can make proper decisions as a captain and ensure everyone''s safety aboard the ship. A Few minutes went by and Ward reached the serving desk, in a moment his plate was filled with tasty food and a cup of water on the side. Visually no difference can be spotted when comparing this meal with the regular one. Ward grabbed his tray with the food and proceeded to find an empty table, unlike the usual days all the tables were filled with people. Fuck. All the tables are taken. Maybe I should go and sit next to Lewis? Ward looked around for a moment before finding Lewis sitting with a large group of people, they are all laughing with Lewis being in the middle of attention. Nope. Imma just find the least crowded table. After a minute of walking around the cafeteria, Ward found a table with few people sitting at it. He approached the table and sat at the edge, trying his best to avoid unnecessary conversation and eat his food in peace. Nobody paid attention to Ward sitting at the edge and the group¡¯s conversation carried on as nothing has happened. ¡°No, but it depends on the way you look at it, if-¡± ¡°If we are talking from an average human perspective, then what he did is fucked up and wrong.Simple.¡± A man let out a small sigh before continuing to eat his half-finished food. ¡°There are laws for a reason. I agree, I can see why he decided to murder them but it still is against the law and we as citizens should follow it.¡± The whole table went silent before one man started talking. ¡°You know it''s never fun to have a conversation with you. All I said is that he is not fully guilty and your ass out here getting into the laws and government. I am not gonna be surprised if this convo will end up with you talking about another one of your conspiracy theories.¡± The whole table started laughing and the conversation drifted to a different topic. I don¡¯t get what''s so funny. They practically made fun of him, why is he laughing with them? I don¡¯t get people sometimes Support the creativity of authors by visiting the original site for this novel and more. With his food finished Ward headed out of the cafeteria as soon as possible
Everyone is assembled in the main hall. Scouts, scientists and even the spacecraft crew are all lined up in separate lines, looking forward where captain William is standing. ¡°Scouts!¡± The captain shouted, his voice heavy and low. Perfect for his role. ¡°Sir!¡± All scouts replied in unison ¡°Today is the deployment day, as some of you are new here I will be going over instructions.¡° ¡°At the end of this assembly, you will all be sorted into random groups of 4. As soon as your group is ready you will be given weapons and equipment. When the spacecraft lands on the planet your group will be appointed to discover a certain location. Upon seeing alien life you are to report back immediately, even if it''s not hostile or intelligent. The spacecraft will serve as HQ on the planet until other forces arrive.¡± ¡°I will go over the instructions once more as soon as we land of the planet¡± For the next ten minutes, the captain started going over all the small rules. Most people have heard the rule before but it was still necessary for new scouts as well as the scientists to hear them. ¡°And now I will call out group numbers and name¡± ¡°Group 1 ¨C Sam, Thomas, Jack, Ron.¡± ¡°Group 2 ¨C Dick, Harry, John, Mark.¡± ¡°Group 3 ¨C Lewis, Dawid, Andy, Lucas.¡± A few minutes later ¡°And the last group 24 ¨C Ward, Deric, Fraser, Croft¡± Deric?...Fraser?...Croft? How the hell am I supposed to know who they are? Ward thought as he looked around ¡°Now that the groups have been sorted, I will see you in the deployment chamber in exactly one hour¡± ¡°Dismissed!¡± ¡°Yes Sir!¡± Scouts shouted in unison once again As soon as the captain was off stage everyone started moving to form their groups. Does everyone know each other? How the hell am I supposed to find Deric or Fraser or ¡ª ¡°Ward?¡± A voice called out from behind ¡°Hmm?¡± Ward looked overseeing 3 scouts stand together ¡°I am Deric, these guys are Fraser and Croft. We were put in the group together.¡± Deric is a tall and muscular man with a white complexion. His hair is black and short while his chin is cleanly shaven, similar to Ward¡¯s. He has green eyes and a friendly face. His voice is not deep nor high, a perfect balance in between the two. ¡°Ohh Yeah. How did you know my name though?¡± ¡°You are the only person that is left and we are missing one¡± Ward looked around the hall. All the scouts are already gone, Ward and his group are the last ones around ¡°Oh shit¡± Ward chuckled ¡°I must have zoned out¡± ¡°No worries¡± Deric replied with a wave from his hand, as to show it''s not a big deal. Ward looked at the other two scouts ¡°So, which one of you is Fraser and which one is Croft?¡± ¡°Hey, name¡¯s Croft¡± Croft is a relatively short man with bright ginger hair. He has a stubble with a rough face and bright blue eyes that suit his ginger hair. His face is of white complexion while his voice is quite deep compared to others. Ward then averted his eyes to the last member of the group ¡°Waah gwaan mi name Fraser¡± Fraser is of average height with black complexion. He has a friendly face accompanied by brown eyes and long brown dreads. Same as Ward and Deric his face is cleanly shaven. He has a strong Jamaican accent while his voice is more on a high pitchside ¡°All right got it. I am bad with names so apologies if I forget them¡± ¡°Nuh worry bout it¡± Fraser said with a smile ¡°Yeah Ward you don¡¯t have to be formal with us" Croft agreed ¡°All right now that we are all together let''s go to the armoury and get the equipment, don¡¯t want to make the cap angry¡± ¡°Yeah let''s move¡± They all agreed and started making their way towards the armoury
¡°So, how you doing Ward?¡± Deric decided to start a conversation while the group made their way through the corridors ¡°I am good, excited for the expedition¡± ¡°It a fi yuh fos one?¡± ¡°Yeah, I haven¡¯t been on an unexplored planet before¡± ¡°Well then you are in for a treat.¡± Croft joined the conversation ¡°He¡¯s right. I got some contacts in HQ and heard that the planet is very beautiful¡± ¡°But how would they know if the planet is still unexplored?¡± Ward asked ¡°Dem get high resolution telescopes dat tek pictures of di planets¡± ¡°On the HQ there is a whole sector that is in charge of taking pictures of the planets, to see if they are barren or not¡± ¡°Got it...and what about this planet?¡± ¡°As I said you are in for a treat¡± Croft replied. ¡°This planet is full of life and nature. It is covered in jungles and forests, few large lakes run through them but from what I heard the planet has only one sea.¡± ¡°Mi remema mi fos planet, suh excite an den it turn out to be a barren¡± Croft and Deric both laughed as Fraser said that. Seeing Ward¡¯s confused face Deric began explaining ¡°Fraser¡¯s first planet was a barren wasteland. He was so excited to see some beautiful landscapes and all he got was a barren¡± Deric said, still laughing ¡°Its nuh funny mi did really vexed. Still am¡± Fraser said whilechucking himself Ward himself began laughing a little bit. Something he doesn¡¯t do often, a joke or two may come to mind and he will let out a grin but it¡¯s rare to see him laugh. Throughout his short but enjoyable walk to the armoury, Ward¡¯s excitement did not seem to die down. In fact, it went complete opposite. Hearing his group talk about all the planets they have explored just increased Wards anticipation. Not only that but what is happening right now is out of Ward¡¯s usual routine, making him enjoy the day even more. Damn these guys are something else. I guess I got lucky with the groups. I could have been with Lewis. I don¡¯t dislike him but he is just too...open? He is an extrovert and I am the complete opposite. These guys don¡¯t seem to be like him. Maybe I am wrong, who knows maybe at the end of the day they are ¡ª ¡°Finally wi here¡± Ward zoned back into the real world and looked around. He and his group are now outside of the armoury. The armoury provides all kind of weapons and gadgets for the scouts. From heavy sniper rifles that Ward used at the shooting range, to provisions and advanced first aid kits. Upon orbital descent, a scout unit must be dressed in an especially designed lightweight suit and be equipped with the following items: Portable plasma rifle, plasma pistol, advanced first aid kit, provisions and few flashbangs. All these items are essential as emergencies are quite common on new planets. Most emergency cases happen not because of confrontation with alien life but because of the planet''s nature. One insect bite may lead to death within minutes. That¡¯s the reason all the scouts are equipped with lightweight but very robust suits. Deric approached one of the available windows where an armoury personnel is stationed. ¡°Hello, I am in the scout regiment. Me and my group require equipment.¡± ¡°May I have your group number and names?¡± "Group 24. Deric, Croft, Ward and Fraser¡± ¡°Thank you, just a second¡± The person behind window began typing the details into the system, recording the fact that the group has the equipment. Even if one of the groups have not been to the armoury the orbital descent will not occur. That why it''s important to have all the groups recorded with the armoury¡¯s staff. ¡°All right you are good to go, please proceed to the door on your left and I will let you in¡± ¡°Thank you¡± Deric turned around and faced the group ¡°Ok boys we are good to go¡± The group proceeded to a large metallic door and with a buzz, it opened letting everyone in. They all entered a massive armoury filled with a bunch of weapons and equipment. Ward¡¯s eyes lit up as he felt like a little kid in a large toy store. He quickly proceeded to inspect all the equipment with great precision. ¡°Don''t take too lon Ward, we need to get ready and quickly¡± Croft said ¡°I didn¡¯t know you were a fan of weapons¡± ¡°Nah, just a little hobby of mine I guess¡± Ward regained his thoughts and started preparing all the equipment needed. ¡°Wi should change fi wi group name¡± ¡°Why?¡± Deric responded ¡°Group 24? Cum pan wi should call dis group sup''m else¡± ¡°How about FireStarters?¡± Croft said ¡°I swear Croft try and plug your favourite music artist again and I will smack the shit out of you¡± ¡°But why not? The name sounds good¡± ¡°Ok first of all it sounds all right, not good. Second, what does it even mean? Oh wait I know, it means a song name that you really like¡± ¡°Ow bout Ragamuffins?¡± ¡°Hmm, that one could do. What you think Ward?¡± ¡°I like it, I say we roll with this one¡± ¡°All right I am down with it as well. Croft? ¡°Just saying that FireStarters sounds better but I am down¡± ¡°It¡¯s official then. From now on group 24 will be called Ragamuffins¡± ¡°Hurry up wi get to be at di hall inna twenty minutes¡± Ward reached to a suit hanging in front of him. Due to the suit being very lightweight, it caught Ward off guard. When holding it you would feel like you are holding two small t-shirts instead. Similar to the spacewalk suit it is equipped with the same material. A Few minutes later the whole group is fully equipped and ready to proceed to the deployment chamber. ¡°All right everyone ready?¡± ¡°Yep¡± ¡°Ready¡± ¡°Gud fi guh¡± As the group approached the door, Deric pressed a button on the side. A moment later the large metallic door opened letting everyone out of the armoury. The assembly hall is about fifteen minutes away from the armoury so the group would arrive just in time. With last equipment check, group 24 (now known as Ragamuffins) left the armoury and proceeded to make their way to the assembly hall. Without realizing, Ward once again found himself wrapped in pleasant conversations within the group. Ward strictly followed his grandfather''s advice and kept all social contact to a minimum. Breaking his own rules granted him the satisfaction that his mind subconsciously desired.
¡°Attention!¡± A loud voice rang through the assembly hall All of the soldiers lined up in horizontal lines once again as soon as the captain¡¯s voice reached their eardrums. ¡°In exactly ten minutes, this spacecraft will begin orbital descent. That means all you are to make your way to the deployment chamber. If any of you for any reason are not at your post within ten minutes, you will face severe consequences that will lead to your removal from the scout''s regiment.¡± The captain took a small pause before continuing to speak again ¡°As soon as the spacecraft lands on the planet your group will be given coordinates, and you are to explore the given area within few days.¡± The excitement and joy within Ward is now even higher than before, yet his group does not share the same levels of excitement. They have been through this process many times, nothing different and nothing new ¡°Dismissed!¡± ¡°Yes Sir!¡± As soon as the assembly came to an end, all the groups began running towards the deployment chamber. Fraser ran past Ward and taped his shoulder ¡°Let¡¯s move yuh nuh wa fi be late¡± Ward quickly regained his thoughts and began running with Fraser. Due to the number of people running to one location Fraser and Ward separated with Croft and Deric. ¡°Where are Deric and Croft?¡± ¡°Nuh kno. Nuh worry wi wi regroup once di spacecraft lands¡± Ward, Fraser and many other scout units ran towards the deployment chamber, trying their best to be on time. Due to deployment chambers being located all the way at the back of the spacecraft it takes time to get there. So if one decided to walk he would arrive late and face consequences with the HQ. A Few minutes later Ward, Fraser and the rest of the scouts arrive at the deployment chamber. ¡°Wow, it''s massive.¡± The deployment chamber is way larger than the assembly hall, able to fit many soldiers and vehicles. Right in the middle many armoured cars and mechs are stationed while on one side of the chamber you could see a few warplanes strapped to a wall. At the back of the chamber a massive door is located, it opens as soon as the spacecraft lands on the planet, allowing easy access for vehicles mechs and planes alike. ¡°Neva been here?¡± ¡°No...This is amazing¡± ¡°Cum pan wi need fi get fi fi wi seats before di descent¡± Ward followed Fraser thorough the chamber. While one wall of the chamber is holding the planes, the other has many seats attached to it. Ward and Fraser approached two empty seats and sat in them. Strapping themselves securely to the seats. ¡°So how many times have you been out on expeditions?¡± ¡°Dis a mi 9th Mi tink. Mi ave been through nuff.¡± ¡°Damn, that¡¯s a lot. Where you scared the first time? ¡°Yeah, everyone fraid fi di fos time¡± Ward looked down at his shaking knees, his heart had accelerated while his stomach has tensed up. His arms felt heavy and weak while his hands became sweaty. Why am I so nervous? I have been waiting for this moment for months. Get yourself together for fuck¡¯s sake. It''s just an orbital descent, I have done many orbital descents before. Why am I so nervous? Ward slowly began inhaling and exhaling to calm himself down. He spread open his hands and wiped the sweat using his suit as a tissue ¡°Calm dung it just an orbital descent¡± Fraser said as he noticed Ward¡¯s nervous face ¡°Yeah I know. Just nervous for no reason¡± ¡°I just, don¡¯t know wh¡ª¡± ¡°All right scouts!¡± The captain voice could be heard over a loud radio in the chamber. Interrupting Ward¡¯s sentence and making everyone stop their chattering. ¡°I am happy to see everyone here¡± ¡°In 60 seconds we will begin the orbital descent. Make sure you are well secured to the seats as this is a bumpy ride¡± ¡°Voice transmission over!¡± A few moments later the chatter volume went back up. ¡°Fraser I have a question.¡± ¡°Wah up?¡± ¡°How does the captain know that all the scouts are here? Surely he didn¡¯t count all of us¡± Fraser pointed his finger at the seat that Ward is sitting in. ¡°Dem yah seats light up inna di system eff sum''ady sitting pan dem, an there exactly hundred seats attach to dis wall¡± ¡°Suh di captain cya si eff sum''ady nuh sitting dung¡± ¡°Technology never seems to amaze me¡± ¡°Yuh get mi¡± Suddenly the whole spacecraft began lightly shaking. Wards hand simultaneously held onto the straps that are wrapped over him. ¡°Oh looks like wi a guh dung now¡± Ward once again began breathing in and breathing out to try and calm down. With every second the spacecraft¡¯s speed increased, the shaking intensified and the bumps became so strong that his whole body bounced up and down. He could feel the pressure as the spacecraft descended through the planet''s atmosphere ¡°It of a bumpy ride dis one. Mussi a tuff atmosphere¡± All the vehicles at the centre of the spacecraft are violently shaking. The holding straps look like they could give out any second and multiple tons of steel could come flying at people. Suddenly the shaking stopped. The spacecraft is now completely stable, just like in space. ¡°Yuh si mi tell yuh it just a tuff atmosphere¡± Ward looked at Fraser and forced a smile through his now less terrified face. The chatter picked back up as people calmed down from the rough ride. Suddenly a loud explosion could be heard, followed up by now even stronger shaking. Ward¡¯s face dropped the smile and his eyes looked at Fraser in hope of reassurance. To his horror, Fraser¡¯s face showed that he was as equality terrified as Ward. Ward¡¯s knees began shaking once again while his heart rate greatly accelerated. His arms, hands and legs began feeling weak as his whole body gave up. Suddenly a quick flash of light blinded Ward as he heard another explosion happen at the end of the deployment chamber. He looked around seeing that one-third of the chamber is practically gone wit the outside world being visible. The explosion happened on the seat side, resulting in instant death for those who sat at the end of the deployment chamber. Those that survived the initial explosion could be heard screaming in agony as their limbs have been torn off. The straps on the vehicles broke as soon as the explosion happened. Causing multi-ton armoured cars and mechs to fly at the scouts that are seated in the middle of the chamber. Their death became practically instant as their skulls and bodies were crushed. Those that were lucky enough to be alive could not even scream as their jaws have been crushed to bits. The rest of scouts sat in horror hoping that another explosion will not happen on their side, many of them have defecated and urinated themselves as their survival instincts kicked in. Some decided to take off the straps that held them to the seats only to be sucked out into the world by the pressure. Seeing all of this happening Ward¡¯s mind went blank. He does not know what do or what course of action to take. His shaking hands tried to undo the straps on his seat, only to be stopped by Fraser¡¯s shouting. ¡°Eff yuh undo di belts yuh wi fly out through dat hole!¡± Fraser shouted as he pointed his finger to the hole that was created by the explosion. ¡°What the fuck are we supposed to do then!?¡± Ward shouted back. ¡°Put pan yuh oxygen mask an sit tight!¡± Ward grabbed a small oxygen mask from one of his back pockets and put it over his face. The mask is already connected to an oxygen tank that came with the equipment, making it easier to get the mask working. As soon as the mask was secured, Ward grabbed on the straps again and started holding with all his strength. A Couple of more explosions could be heard all around, causing the spacecraft to start violently spinning in the atmosphere. Armoured cars, planes, mechs and different equipment began bouncing all-round the chamber, killing and crushing the unlucky ones. Ward closed his eyes, praying that he would not get hit. He opened his eyes for one second only to see an oxygen tank fly at his face, knocking him out cold The whole spacecraft crashed on an unknown planet. The Number of survivors unidentified. End of Chapter 2 Chapter 3 - Survival Uhhg. What...what happened. Ward slowly opened his eyes. His whole body submerged in pain with the shoulder and leg being the epicentre. As his eyes gained their focus the picture seemed familiar, a few moments later he realized that it was the deployment chamber¡¯s ceiling, or what''s left of it. Massive holes in the chamber allowed sunlight to light a few areas, leaving the rest of the chamber dimly lit. Equipment, vehicles and dead bodies are all scattered around, no alive soul seem to be present. As his conscious began coming back to him so did the pain, getting worse and worse as seconds past. His heart beating rapid while his breathing is fast and heavy. Ward¡¯s body is no different, shaking and shivering due to the shock and terror going through his mind. To avoid extra pain and discomfort, Ward decided to lay still and only move his head to inspect his body for any wounds. The first place he decided to look was at his right shoulder, as that is the place where most of the pain is amplified. He turned his head right, allowing the eyes to see what was causing this pain. A large steel rod can be seen pierced through his shoulder. The only way to get his shoulder out would be to lift his body as the rod is attached to the ground. ¡°Oh fuck. Oh fuck. Oh fuck¡± Ward quickly spat with trembling voice. His mind panicking even more while his body began shuddering. He looked over to his legs and realized that his left leg is crushed and stuck below a heavy steel bar, immobilizing a lower part of his body. He placed his left hand on his forehead and closed his eyes ¡°Okay calm down. Think. Think¡± ¡°¡" ¡°Med kit!¡± Ward quickly began looking for the med kit that was part of his equipment. He swiftly turned his head around resulting in an unbelievable amount of pain as his injured shoulder moved a few millimetres to the left. ¡°ARGGH!¡± He screamed in pain only for the sound to echo back into his eardrums. His eyes began watering while his teeth nearly bit out his own tongue. A few seconds later Ward carried on looking for the med kit, only for him to find it right next to his injured shoulder. With better visual inspection Ward saw a wire still attached to the kit, he then remembered how he attached the wire to his belt in the armoury. Ward grabbed the wire from the belt and began pulling the kit towards him as it was too far to reach by hand. As soon as the kit was in his possession, he began thoroughly looking through it. Trying to find anything that would ease the pain and help him to get out of this situation. He picked up a red syringe and injected himself with a strong painkiller. This syringe has multiple small needles placed in a circle, making the injection way easier and faster despite Ward¡¯s shaking hands. Almost suddenly the pain began fading away, his heart rate as well as his breathing have also seemed to improve. He laid still for half a minute before turning his attention back to the shoulder. After a brief look he diverted his attention to the legs. I will not be able to get my shoulder out unless my legs are free. Ward sat still again, thinking about his next move or what to do. He once again looked around, desperately trying his best to find a chance of survival. I can¡¯t. I can¡¯t move it. I have three days before my body will begin to demand food, I will probably survive for two or three more days and die within a week. Ward began laughing as the situation amused him. I have 7 days until I die, enough time to go over all the mistakes in my life. Or try and figure out what to do with the steel beam. Why am I finding this amusing? Is it the drug or did my mind give up? Ward began laughing louder, echoing the sound throughout the deployment chamber. Suddenly another voice could be heard on his right ¡°Ward? Dat you?¡± A very familiar voice said Ward quickly turned his head to the right as soon as he heard another voice. It didn¡¯t matter if the voice was familiar or not, knowing the fact that someone else had survived this terrible tragedy greatly reassured him. As he turned his head to the right, he saw Fraser who is barely able to stand. His suit is withered and damaged while his face has many scratches and small treated wounds. One of Fraser¡¯s hand is holding his stomach where a bandaged wound is located, his body is leaning on one of the flipped vehicles as he is not able to stand properly by himself. Upon seeing a friendly face, Ward¡¯s mind could not hold the emotions and river of tears began flowing down his cheeks. Upon seeing Ward, Fraser¡¯s face lit up with joy and relief. He quickly rushed to Ward¡¯s body, avoiding all the obstructions created by the destruction. Seeing that Fraser made his way to him, Ward began wiping his eyes with his hand. Trying his best to hide the tears. ¡°tank god yuh alive¡± Fraser said as he leaned down towards Ward. Fraser looked at Ward¡¯s shoulder ¡°Oooh dat a bad one¡± ¡°I can¡¯t get it out cause of my leg¡± Ward pointed at the Steel beam that crushed his leg. ¡°You need to lift the Steel beam and let my legs go free so I can properly lift my body. With my leg free and your help I will be able to lift my shoulder off this rod.¡±Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site. ¡°Get it. Yuh tek di painkiller?¡± ¡°Yeah, the effect should still last for about thirty minutes. I don¡¯t have any more painkillers so we need to hurry up.¡± Fraser nodded and walked to Ward¡¯s legs, he looked at the large Steel beam for a few seconds before proceeding to remove all the small rocks and the rubble that was covering it. After the rubble was cleared Fraser placed his hands on the steel beams end, aiming to lift and rotate the heavy piece of steel. Fraser took in a deep breath and began pulling the steel beam with all his strength. Sweat began dripping on his grubby face while his veins turned more visible due to the pressure put on his arms. The wound on his stomach began bleeding through the bandage, indicating that the wound opened again. ¡°Ughaaa!¡± Fraser let out a loud scream as he lifted the steel beam from Ward¡¯s leg. As soon as Ward¡¯s leg was in the clear he dropped it on the metal ground, causing a loud noise to once again echo throughout the chamber. Fraser stumbled back, nearly losing his conscious. He groaned and put hands over the blood-soaked bandages. ¡°Fuck dat hurts¡± ¡°Treat it, I don¡¯t want you dying here¡± ¡°No time fi dat, lets get dat ting outta yuh first¡± Fraser barely able to stand walked and kneeled to Ward, putting his hands beneath Wards back, ready to lift him up. Ward on the other hand, pulled his right leg towards him and placed his left hand against the metal floor, ready to push himself up. ¡°Yuh Ready?¡± ¡°Yeah, on my countdown we pull up. The drug is still in effect, so it shouldn¡¯t hurt as much¡± ¡°Wait put dis inna yuh mout an bite pan it¡± Fraser handed Ward a twisted bit of clothing, small enough to fit in Ward¡¯s mouth. ¡°All right¡± Ward let out a deep breath as he bit the twisted cloth. ¡°5¡± ¡°4¡± ¡°3¡± ¡°2¡± ¡°1¡± On the last number, Ward held his breath and began pulling himself up with as much as he could. Although Ward is relatively lightweight, due to his injuries Fraser still has to put a lot of strength in lifting Ward up. As Ward¡¯s body rose up the pain and agony once again spread through his body. The coarse surface of the steel rod tore his muscle tissues even more as he was being lifted up. Every bit of movement caused him tremendous amounts of pain nearly knocking him out cold. The wound is now opened even more, causing warm blood to begin spilling onto Fraser¡¯s hands. Ward screamed as the last bit of steel rod left his weak body, making him lose his conscious. Fraser put the body next to the now blood covered rod and swiftly proceeded to treat Ward¡¯s fatal wound with the advanced medical kit. Fraser grabbed the medical liquid gel and squeezed the whole tube on both sides of the hole. As it made its way through the wound Fraser began bandaging the hole, to try and minimalize the loss of blood as soon as possible. Although bandaging Ward was difficult Fraser managed to cover the wounds perfectly. He placed one finger under Ward¡¯s neck in hopes of feeling the pulse, however no pulse came. Almost immediately Fraser began looking through the advanced med kit, trying to find an adrenaline shot that will hopefully make Ward¡¯s heart beat again ¡°Cum pan, cum pan, weh it deh¡± Fraser said as his sweaty hands threw away anything that wasn¡¯t what he was looking for. ¡°Get it!¡± He shouted as his eyes identified the adrenaline shot. He swiftly turned his body back to Ward, stripping his chest open of any clothing. He placed his finger on the centre of the chest before moving it a couple of centimetres to the right, where the heart would be located. He positioned the adrenaline shot where his finger was located and pressed it down with his hands and his body. Although the adrenaline shot has a similar design to the painkiller shot, it does not possess many little needles. It instead has one long and thin needle that is able to penetrate many hard surfaces. As soon as the needle reached Ward¡¯s heart a boost of adrenaline came rushing through. He instantly opened his eyes and regained his conscious, he quickly pulled his body up while his breathing greatly intensified. He swiftly shook his head around, trying to comprehend what happened. Sudden movement also caused the twisted cloth to fall out of his mouth. ¡°Calm dung, stay still or yuh wound wi open¡± Fraser said as he sat down on the cold metal floor, as he begun inspecting and treating his own wounds. ¡°What happened¡± Ward said as he looked at his bandaged shoulder. The pain is still present but not as nearly as bad as before. His breathing now more stable and calmer. ¡°Mi treat yuh wounds¡± ¡°How?¡± ¡°Deep wound gel¡± Ward stood still for a second before realizing what Fraser was talking about. A deep wound gel is an especially designed medical gel that is able to close deep and fatal wounds until they heal or an operation is performed. Not only does the gel connect with skin and muscle tissue, but it also closes the wound preventing bacteria from entering and blood from leaving. In Ward¡¯s case the gel is now healing his wounds left from the steel rod, if it is kept untouched the gel will fully close the wound in 2 to 3 days. Ward sighted with relief. He looked at Fraser finishing treating his wounds and then looked at his broken leg ¡°So what do we do now?¡± ¡°Wi investigate di surrounding area an den collect all di resources wi cya find from di spacecraft. Dis planet ave oxygen which a gud sign¡± ¡°Oh yeah that¡¯s right, we are breathing fine and are not using our oxygen masks, the gravity here also feels like back on earth. We are in luck¡± ¡°Yeah. Yuh cya stand?¡± Fraser finished up treating his wounds and stood up with help from the nearby metal rods that are sticking out of the ground. ¡°I don¡¯t think so. My right leg is fine but my left is fucked. Broken bones for sure¡± Fraser stood up and approached Ward. He grabbed his arm and placed it around his neck, helping Ward stand up. They both slowly started walking towards the end of the deployment chamber, where a massive door leading to the outside is located. As they walk through the chamber Ward can see a massive number of dead scouts laying on the floor, few of them have their skull crushed while others are missing limbs and body parts. ¡°Ow yuh feeling?¡± ¡°All right you know. I have a massive hole in my shoulder, my left leg is crushed to bits and nearly everyone I knew is dead. Feeling swell¡± ¡°At least yuh still ave sense of huma¡± Ward chucked as they walked past another dead body, this time the person¡¯s head has been decapitated. ¡°Mi wonda ow did dat happen¡± Ward turned his head around, studying the body with his eyes for a few more seconds. I wonder why I don¡¯t feel sick. I have never seen anything like this before, yet I don¡¯t feel like disgust or a need to puke. Is it the drug or is my mind too tired to even realize what I am looking at? Strange. ¡°Do you think anyone else is alive?¡± ¡°Mi fi sure hope suh. Di more people alive di higha fi wi chances of survival¡± ¡°Yeah I hope so too¡± A few minutes later the two approached a massive metal door. Next to them a keypad is located, the captain has to type in the code to open the gate. ¡°Ah fuck, what now?¡± ¡°Nuh worry mi kno di code¡± ¡°How?¡± ¡°Cum wi just sey mi been pan di ship lang enuff¡± Fraser along Ward approached the keypad, with a couple of pressed numbers and letters the door mechanism began working. A few moments later the massive door began lowering down, letting sunshine and fresh air inside ¡°If you don¡¯t mind me asking. How long have you been in scouts? You seem to know so much¡± ¡°Dis a mi 3rd year inna scouts. Before mi join scouts mi did serving inna di marine division an den transferred afta seeing sum fucked up shit¡± ¡°I see, tell me about the marine division some time.¡± ¡°Sure bredren¡± As soon as the door fully opened a breeze of fresh and warm air hit Ward and Fraser, while the sunlight blinded their eyes. In front of them a massive and green jungle is present. Just like at earth it houses many of the planet¡¯s animals, many different sounds could also be heard coming from the jungle, indicating that it is full of a hostile or peaceful life. ¡°This is beautiful. ¡°Yea it is¡± Fraser lowered down his body, letting go of Ward and allowing him to sit on the ground. ¡°All right fos of all wi¡ª¡± Suddenly multiple tall humanoids appeared out of the forest, equipped with long inhuman spears and shining gold armor. Their bodies vary in colour of green and grey while their skin looks to be made out of wood and stone. They are speaking in an unknown language that humans cannot understand. Their anatomy however is very similar to human. They have two arms, two legs and a head. These humanoids in particular can remind one of the human females due to visible mammary glands and higher-pitched voices. Their armor covers many vital parts on their bodies. The parts that are unprotected are arms, bottom part of legs and a lower half of the stomach. Their weapons are different types of spears that are able to reach anyone within its long range. ¡°Ok...Now what the fuck are those?¡± Ward quietly whispered. ¡°Shut yuh mout an stand still. Nuh show any signs of aggression¡± Fraser said barely moving his mouth. Ward and Fraser stood still as the humanoids slowly surrounded them. They all stopped moving in unison, their spears still pointing at Ward and Fraser. Without them even realized short daggers have been put next to Ward¡¯s and Fraser¡¯s throat by two humanoids that flanked them from behind. Wha? Where did they come from? Ward thought as his body got pushed down onto the floor, causing his wound to buzz from pain. ¡°Well done sisters¡± The squad¡¯s captain said ¡°Tie them up and search that place¡± She said while pointing at the spacecraft ¡°If you find survivors report back to me straight away. The rest watch over these two¡± Humanoids tied up Fraser and Ward and placed them under one of the jungle trees. They both began whispering to each other. ¡°Fraser what the fuck are those things?¡± ¡°Ow di fuck should mi know?¡± ¡°Well you have been a combat marine, didn¡¯t you encounter this often?¡± ¡°No mi fucking neva. Inna all mi years of service mi ave neva encounta aliens dat cya even communicate¡± ¡°What should we do then?¡± ¡°There nuttin wi cya duh. All wi cya duh sit tight an hope fi di best¡± ¡°Fuck¡± The humanoids quickly returned from searching the spacecraft. ¡°No other survivors captain, all except these two died in the crash landing.¡± ¡°Perfect. Let¡¯s kill these two and head back to the city¡± ¡°Wait!¡± One of the humanoids shouted. ¡°Zara?¡± ¡°Why don¡¯t we bring the prisoners to the temple in the city?¡± ¡°What good would that do?¡± The captain asked in confusion ¡°They could be a sacrifice to the gods! Last time that happened was thousands of years ago.¡± She said in excitement ¡°...That is...A good idea. Nice thinking Zara¡± ¡°We will be able to outrun them¡± ¡°An den what? Wi prey inna dat jungle¡± ¡°So, we need to get out right¡ª¡± ¡°Tap yuh noise one of dem coming here¡± A humanoid approached Ward and Fraser, they looked up at her before seeing a blunt weapon fly towards Ward, knocking him out cold. ¡°No! No! No!¡± Fraser tried to move back but the mace was too fast. It hit him right in the jaw knocking him out ¡°Prisoners are ready!¡± One of the humanoids picked up Ward and Fraser and began carried them on their backs. They faded into the jungle without a trace The number of survivors? - 2 End of Chapter 3 Chapter 4 - Composure Sunlight is slipping through the large jungle leaves, while a gentle and warm breeze softly glides through the large trees. All around predators could be heard, fighting in the dynamic jungle over territories and power. Among the disorientating jungle, a group of humanoids make their way to a place they call home. They walk through the enormous jungle with no fear, they know that the creatures treat them as their own. At the back, two large camel like creatures follow the group, carrying all the cargo gathered from the spacecraft. Among the cargo two humans are present, their hands and legs tied up while their unconscious bodies dangle with each step the creatures take Ward slowly opened his eyes, his body still in pain while his mind has not yet grasped the situation he is in. Every three seconds his body violently shakes due to the enormous steps that the creatures take, causing his wound and body to buzz with pain and discomfort. Ugh...Where...Where am I? Ward thought, a second before all of his memories gushed back into his mind. Upon realizing what happened, he quickly looked around, his hands and legs are tightly tied up while his mouth is covered with cloth, preventing him from speaking. Ward turned his head to the right and saw Fraser¡¯s unconscious body dangling among the attached cargo. Upon seeing him, Ward felt relief, as he comforted himself by the fact that he is not the only one in this dire situation. Ward then turned his head to the left, only to see a massive group of humanoids following a path. While some of the humanoids are focused on protecting the cargo, most of them are positioned in front, defending the nose of the group and ensuring the path is clear of any obstacles. Shit, what can I do? Think, Ward, think Ward looked around his surroundings once again, trying his best to find any kind of opening or weakness in the humanoids formation. Nothing. There must be something, some kind of weakness. All right, all right. Imagine there is a weakness in their formation and I will be able to slip past them, what then? I will not have time to search through cargo for food or weapons and my body can go without food for about a week and two days max, not more than that. And plus there are these - Ward looked at his tied up hand. This is not your usual day to day rope, it looks and feels stronger. - Ward rubbed his hands up and down, trying to identify if he can even free his hands. ¡°Oh look, one of your prisoners woke up Zara¡± A humanoid by the name of Tira said ¡°He is not my prisoner!¡± ¡°Well he kind of is. I mean it was your idea after all¡± ¡°...¡± ¡°So that means you have to take care of him and feed him. Like a little pet¡± Tira said with a chuckle ¡°Ha. ha, very funny¡± ¡°No I am serious. You need to feed them, you want the sacrifice to please the gods right? I am sure they don¡¯t want something half dead¡± She does have a good point, Zara thought. All the sacrificial beings are well fed and taken care off before their death, as to please the gods with a healthy meal. There is only one problem. She does not know what and how to feed the aliens, maybe the food will even kill them, who knows. It is a big risk, but a risk that needs to be taken This novel is published on a different platform. Support the original author by finding the official source. ¡°All right, I¡¯ll think of something¡± ¡°Better be fast, we reach the city in a few days¡± ¡°We not stopping at the outpost?¡± ¡°No, apparently we heading straight for the Aquos, by the Elders request¡± ¡°Elders?!¡± Elders are the high beings of this world, they are the closest ones to gods and sometimes can even communicate with the earth mothers. Their rule is absolute and none may stand against them. ¡°Why would Elders care about some cargo? This is not the first time¡± ¡°Maybe they want to question the aliens? Who knows. Just make sure they are prepared¡± Strange Zara walked closer to the large creature that is carrying cargo, making her stand closer to Ward. Ward still thinking about his master plan of escape didn¡¯t even notice how Zara began staring at him, examining his body and physique. What if I cut the rope using that sharp edge on that box? Will it even work? I mean it should. Or I can just- Ward''s thought paused as he noticed a now close up demi human staring at him. Don¡¯t tell me they can mind read Zara lifted her hand and began touching Ward¡¯s hair, occasionally poking her finger at his body. Hmm, the hair is similar to ours but its body is so soft and weak. How do they manage to fight? Do they even fight? Zara''s rough hands brushed through Ward¡¯s hair, although she tried to be gentle, her hard skin still scratched Ward scalp. Her fingers push against Ward¡¯s body, causing his body to ache in pain as wounds once again began buzzing. The hell is she doing? Is she inspecting me? ¡°Zara!¡± A captain called Zara quickly moved her hands away from Ward and fixed her posture. ¡°Stop fiddling with the prisoner and get back to your position¡± ¡°Apologies captain¡± Zara said as she moved back to her original position, guarding the far-right side of the group. Aliens are fascinating creatures. While their bodies are weak and frail their minds are the complete opposite. That¡¯s the only reasonable explanation to what we saw in the skies.Zara thought as she began thinking about the life outside this planet After a few hours of a long journey, the captain decided to call it a day and set up a camp ¡°Halt¡± The captain shouted, making everyone stop and stand still. The sky is now orange-red, indicating that it is evening and night is soon to approach. ¡°This will be our camp area, set up your tents and prepare for tomorrow¡± Almost instantly everyone began unpacking and setting up small tents, some began making food while others explored the surrounding area, making sure it is safe of any dangers. It is clear that although all the humanoids are first and foremost warriors, they all have secondary roles in the group, some are hunters, some are builders while others are cooks. Zara is one of the hunters and began getting her equipment ready to capture some food for the group. ¡°Zara¡± A captain called from behind her Zara quickly turned around, ready to receive commands ¡°Instead of hunting today, I want you to take care of the prisoners. Make sure they are healthy and uninjured¡± ¡°But-¡± ¡°Don¡¯t worry, i will appoint someone free for the hunt. Right now, your job is ensuring the prisoners¡¯ safety, this is the Elders request after all.¡± ¡°Understood¡± Zara nodded, her face filled with disappointment while her eyes look down at the ground. As soon as the captain turned, she began putting her equipment away. ¡°You ready Zara?¡± Tira approached, a smile on her face only annoyed Zara even more. ¡°No¡± ¡°What do you mean?¡± ¡°The captain replaced me, I have to take care of the prisoners¡± ¡°¡" ¡°I told you that would happen¡± Tira said, adding salt to the wound ¡°I know¡± Zara¡¯s voice now full of frustration ¡°I assume you are replaced?¡± ¡°Yeah¡± ¡°All right then, good luck¡± Tira said as she began walking away I know I suggested taking the prisoners, but why do I have to take care of them? Like taking care of children, ughh this is so vexing. And how am I even supposed to know what they can and can¡¯t eat? What if i feed them something dangerous that they can¡¯t eat? Maybe I should establish some kind of communication with them first? ¡°Arghh!¡± Zara scratched her head in search of ideas So they stop travelling near the night? Ward looked around, still hanging from the creatures back. I have been watching their behaviour for some time now, and noticed how similar they are to humans. Of course, their bodies are way different but their minds are alike. They communicate and show emotion. All though I do not understand their language, I know they argue, talk and tell jokes to each other. Just like humans. Shit, one of them is approaching Zara approached Ward and picked him up from the creatures back. She carried his body to the end of the camp, where one of the tents is set up. After placing his body down, she approached Fraser¡¯s unconscious body and brought it to Ward, laying it down beside him. The tent¡¯s position allowed Zara to see if anyone was to approach from far away, it also separated the prisoners from the group. Eradicating the possibility of prisoners harming more than one member of the group. I assume they are wounded, so I will try and treat their wounds first. Zara thought as she crouched in front of Ward. The difference in height very noticeable, all of the humanoids, including Zara, are more than two meters tall and are way stronger than the average human. What is she doing? Ward thought as Zara sliced the upper part of his suit with a knife. Upon seeing Ward¡¯s shoulder, she began taking off the blood covered bandage causing the pain to strike once again. ¡°Ughh!¡± Ward groaned, causing Zara to slow down and proceed with caution. Wow! She thought as she looked at the wound. His shoulder has been pierced, yet the insides of it are growing and stitching back together. I didn¡¯t know they have such amazing regeneration abilities. At first Zara wanted to treat the wound, but upon seeing it close on its own, she decided to just change the bandages and keep it simple. She grabbed a long and clean piece of clothing and began wrapping it around Ward¡¯s shoulder. Ward did groan with pain once again but not as much as before, as this time Zara moved her rough hands with the utmost care. Trying her best to avoid inflicting more pain onto Ward¡¯s body. All right, let''s take care of the other prisoner. She thought to herself as she stood up and approached Fraser. Why is she taking care of us? If they didn¡¯t need us for something, we would have been dead. Maybe they want to use us as hostages and demand something when the rescue arrives? Strange. He thought as his eyes are focused on Zara treating Fraser¡¯s wounds. As soon as Fraser¡¯s bandages were changed Zara stood up and began walking to the main camp. If it wasn¡¯t for a cloth covering his mouth, Ward would have tried his best to wake up Fraser. Now all he can do is sit still and observe the busy humanoids from the distance. Few of them are setting up the tents while others are cooking food that even reaches Ward¡¯s nose. What is this smell? Kind of reminds me of food from scout training camp. If I remember correctly it was low grade meat and a few potatoes. Oh? She is coming back. Ward noticed the same humanoid walking back to him, while one of her hands occupied with a bowl and a spoon. I hope this is not going to kill him. Zara thought as she places a bowl filled with food in front of Ward. A moment later she sat in front of him and submerged the wooden spoon in the bowl filled with stew. As soon as the spoon was filled with food, she took off the cloth that was covering his mouth and put it next to Ward¡¯s mouth. Trying to feed him as if he is a child. Is she trying to feed me? I am not hungry but I better eat it, I don¡¯t want her getting angry. Ward hesitated for a second before opening his mouth and eating the stew Meat? And...and something else, it takes like vegetables but different Zara once again submerged her spoon and lifted it up to Ward. This time he opened his mouth without hesitation. Although this is embarrassing for him, he needs to do it to survive. Not because of hunger but because he does not want to anger the humanoids. Ughh, this is so embarrassing. Zara thought as she lifted her spoon once again. A few minutes later, the bowl is empty and the sky is almost dark. As last rays of sunlight began fading away on the horizon Zara started getting ready for bed. Before ensuring that Ward¡¯s and Fraser¡¯s hands and legs are securely tied up, she applied green like goo to the back of their heads. In case they do actually escape, she as well as hunters will be able to track them based on the goo''s smell. She secured the ropes and placed Wards and Fraser¡¯s body in the tent next to hers. The camp is always watched by the hunters, so Zara can sleep knowing that she is not in any danger from the prisoners. The camp is now quiet and peaceful. You could hear the nocturnal creatures sing their melodies, while cricket-like sounds accompany the gentle wind that is brushing past the large jungle leaves. All of the humanoids are in their tents, the exception being the hunters, who stay up all night to watch over the camp. They do swap, keeping vigil throughout the long night. Ward laid on soft grass, his body uncomfortable and stiff while his mind is exhausted. What a day...My spacecraft crashed, I nearly died and I have been captured by an alien race. Ward chuckled. Due to the mental exhaustion, his brain turned off as soon as his eyes closed. Making him sleep soundlessly through the night. Chapter 5 - Discovery Ward slowly opened his eyes. The Sun shines brightly while inaudible talk could be heard from all around. The pain from his wounds is now practically non-existent, indicating that they have fully healed. The atmosphere is calm and the air is warm. Like waking up in the calm forest after a tough day. With a grunt he lifted his upper body, his hands and legs still tied up while his mind is yet to fully awake. ¡°Finally woke up?" A sharp and familiar voice came from Ward''s right. Zara stood at the tent¡¯s entrance, peeking her head through, seeing if he is awake The only response to her question was Ward¡¯s confused face, making her chuckle and smile. ¡°It is so easy to tell your emotions¡± She said as she approached Ward and untied his legs, allowing him to move more freely. He sat still waiting, not wanting to make aggressive moves and waited for Zara to give him instructions. ¡°Well come on, stand up¡± She said, gesturing him to get up. Ward slowly lifted his body, the hole in his shoulder is practically gone. The healing gel did more than he expected, while it would still occasionally sting with little to none amount of pain, it''s nowhere near to what he felt yesterday. As soon as his legs firmly stood on the ground, Zara approached closer and attached a piece of rope to his tied-up hands. She soon took off into the direction of the camp, leading him like a little pet dog through the busy encampment. While Ward did receive a few odd and curious looks, he looked around in search of Fraser. Unlike Ward, Fraser was already gone from the tent. Only adding speculations to what happened to him. Where is Fraser? I didn¡¯t see him at the tent so he was taken before I woke up. God, please don¡¯t tell me they killed him. ¡°Yo Zara¡± Tira shouted out causing Ward to shift his attention to the approaching humanoid. ¡°Hey Tira¡± Zara replied with a smile ¡°How¡¯re the prisoners?¡± ¡°You know, it is not as bad as I thought it would be. I have been examining their behaviour and have noticed how similar they are to us¡± ¡°Them?¡± Tira said pointing at Ward, her faced confused and disgusted. Causing Ward to feel slightly offended ¡°Yeah, they can feel emotions just like us, they talk to eachother and pass on information. They are practically a different version of us. ¡°Very different¡± Tira added ¡°In terms of bodies, yes. We are stronger and faster than them, but what about the intellect? How the hell did they arrive here in the first place? I tell you they are super smart¡± ¡°Well not smart enough, nearly all of them died at a crash and the last two survivors got caught¡± ¡°Tira, you don¡¯t see what I am trying to say. We should learn from them¡± ¡°I am sure elders have better use of them, they will probably be experimented on and investigated. All you need to do is bring them to the city safe and not investigate them¡± ¡°Yeah I know¡± Zara said with an exhale, understanding that her friend does not fully comprehend the alien¡¯s psychological power. Ever since the aliens got captured, she was and still is to determine what these aliens are. Just like Ward, she has been watching him talk to Fraser, how they interact and communicate with each other. The technology in their body suits. All of their equipment and tool gathered from the spacecraft. All of these things just feed into Zara curiosity, making her want to find out more about life beyond this planet. ¡°We are moving out soon right?¡± ¡°Yeah, captain should give the order soon.¡± If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement. ¡°All right, I will go and see her now anyways¡± ¡°All right see ya Zara, don¡¯t get distracted like yesterday¡± Tira said, bumping her elbow at Zara''s arm in a jokingly manner. ¡°Yeah, of course¡± Zara replied with a chuckle before she carried on walking to the captain''s tent. ¡°Come on let''s go.¡± She pulled the rope that is attached to Ward¡¯s hand, pulling him forward and making him walk. It¡¯s like I am a dog, on a walk in the park. I can¡¯t complain but god this is vexing As Zara and Ward approached the tent, Ward noticed Fraser sitting on the outside with a humanoid behind him, making sure he does not escape. Upon seeing each other Ward and Fraser both felt relief, happy tosee that one another is alive and well. He is alive, thank god. ¡°Is the captain inside?¡± ¡°Yes, you can leave the prisoner here, I will keep the watch¡± The guard replied ¡°Got it¡± Zara said as she pulled the rope once again, pulling Ward next to Fraser. Ward did not hesitate and sat next to Fraser, eager to talk to him and pass on what he learned about the humanoids. While Zara proceeded inside the tent, curiousaboutwhat the captain wants. ¡°Yuh nuh kno ow happy mi to si yuh bredren¡± Fraser whispered to Ward, trying his best not to attract any attention. ¡°You too man, did you find out anything?¡± ¡°Nuh much really, mi ongle recently wake up¡± ¡°I have been examining them and noticed how similar they are to us, it''s almost frightening.¡± ¡°Wah yuh mean similar?¡± ¡°T-They act and, and show emotions. Just like us. Like humans. They crack jokes, laugh, show anger and frustration. They basically can communicate with each other like as can. Who the fuck knows, maybe it was them who crashed our ship in the first place¡± ¡°Dem crashing fi wi ship? Wid what? Dem spears?¡± ¡°Okay, maybe they didn¡¯t crash our ship. But they are an intelligent race, maybe not as intelligent as us but they are smart. I think we should try and communicate with them¡± ¡°Yuh mad? Wah eff dem tink yuh aggressive? Dem wi kill yuh¡± ¡°Yes, there is a chance they will kill me, but what if I am able to communicate with them. We have discovered a new race, we cannot let this chance slip away¡± ¡°Lef dat to di scientists. Wah yuh might consida friendly may be hostile to dem¡±
¡°Captain?¡± ¡°Oh there you are!¡± She responded, leaning over a small portable desk with a map in the centre. The map shows the aerial view of the jungle, some areas are marked with X¡¯s, indicating that they are the danger zones, while other areas are marked with S¡¯s which are the opposite, the safe zones. Near the centre of a map. A letter G is present, that¡¯s the group''s current location. ¡°You called?¡± ¡°Yes, I want to know the prisoners¡¯ condition¡± Zara looked confused, not understanding why would the captain care about the prisoners all of a sudden. She wanted to kill them yesterday and now she cares about their well-being. It must be because of the elders; she has been informed how valuable the prisoners are and now takes extra caution. ¡°They are doing well, I have treated their wounds and fed them.¡± ¡°Did they take the food well?¡± ¡°Yes, from what I can tell, there are no symptoms of them eating our food. I have also been looking at their behaviour¡± ¡°...¡± ¡°and?¡± The Captain said in curiosity ¡°While their bodies are weak compared to ours, their minds possess intelligence that may even surpass ours.¡± ¡°What makes you say that?¡± ¡°Well, from what I have gathered they can communicate and interact with each other, just like us. Their equipment is of high quality and they can adapt¡± ¡°What do you know about their equipment?¡± ¡°One of those aliens had a hole in his shoulder when we picked him up. Yesterday before nightfall I have checked the wound and I saw it healing. I do not suspect it to be their own regenerative abilities as other small cuts do not seem to have the same effect. What I think happened is that they used some kind of equipment to fully heal the wound. If that¡¯s not the proof, just look in what they came to the planet. A giant bird able to fly and carry hundreds of them.¡± The captain shifted her eyes sight away back onto the map, analysing all the information Zara has passed on. ¡°I see, well if that is the case. I can see why elders might be interested in them.¡± A feeling of accomplishment spread through Zara, at least someone believes her theory. ¡°Is that all captain?¡± ¡°Yes, you may go. We leave as soon as the morning Icarus sings¡± - ¡°Captain¡± Zara nodded and left the tent. ¡°Wah bout dat way?¡± Fraser pointed his head towards an unguarded path into the open jungle ¡°It di most open path¡± ¡°No, it¡¯s not going to work, they will realise and catch us¡± ¡°Wi cya outrun dem¡± ¡°They are 7 feet tall and can carry us with one hand. Running from them will be pointless¡± ¡°Wah yuh suggest then?¡± ¡°We wait, bite out time. And when opportunity strikes, we take it¡± Suddenly Zara stepped out of the captain''s tent, interrupting Ward¡¯s and Fraser¡¯s whispering. She reached out her hand to the guard and took the two pieces of rope that were attached to Ward¡¯s and Fraser¡¯s hands. As soon as the rope was in her hand, they both slowly and cautiously stood up. Trying their best not to show any type of aggression. ¡°Well you have trained them well¡± One of the approaching humanoids said. Her outfit is the same as everyone''s with the only exception being the red marks on her face, showing that she is one of the chosen hunters. The chosen hunters are more powerful and stronger than the usual hunters, the energy within them nearly doubles when compared to an average denizen on the planet. The red marks on their face show that they have been marked by the elders and they have achieved their power through their willpower and determination alone. ¡°Hey Faryeha, how¡¯s the road?¡± ¡°All clear and well, the animals are very quiet for whatever reason. Predators are not hunting so much as before.Like they are scared to step out of their dens¡± ¡°Most likely due to the crash-landing last night, you know how they react as soon as something out of the ordinary happens.¡± ¡°Yeah. These are your new pets I assume?¡± Faryeha said as she leaned down towards Fraser and Ward, causing them to step away in fear. Faryeha found this amusing and laughed as she saw their anxious faces. ¡°You are scaring them¡± ¡°Am I? I just want to look at them in more detail¡± ¡°Yeah, but how would they know that?¡± ¡°You are too protective of them¡± ¡°Well I have been ordered to take care of them. They must not be hurt both physically and psychologically¡± ¡°All right, all right. I¡¯ll leave them alone¡± With those words Faryeha pusher her body back up and fixed her posture. ¡°How is your training by the way?¡± ¡°With the energy?¡± ¡°Well yeah, unless you have some other training I am not aware of¡± ¡°I don¡¯t know Faryeha, it¡¯s hard. I don¡¯t know how to focus all of my energy together. There is just too much¡± ¡°Listen, you can do it. You have the biggest energy levels I have ever seen, and with enough practice you will be able to control it all¡± Zara rubbed one of her shoulders and looked down at the ground, not knowing what to say. ¡°Look, how about I will become your personal trainer?¡± ¡°You can?¡± Zara¡¯s eyes lit up ¡°Of course, I will say that we have a connection that will yield faster results¡± ¡°But what about the current trainer?¡± ¡°I am sure he would not mind¡± ¡°Well... I appreciate it. Thank you Faryeha¡± ¡°Don¡¯t mention it¡± Faryeha said as she looked at the trees. ¡°Icaruses are about to wake up, imma go and head out with the hunters, prepare yourself. The city is only two days away now.¡± ¡°Of course, see you Faryeha¡± ¡°Take care¡± ¡°I told you they have emotions. One of the aliens saw how scared we were and laughed, mocking us. I tell you they are smart motherfuckers¡± ¡°Mi hope di search party arrives soon¡± ¡°Get moving you two¡± Zara said as she pulled the rope. And so, the group is on the move once again. The formation has been slightly changed as the prisoners are now able to walk themselves. With Zara leading them, they have been put in the front of the group, nullifying all the chances of escape as they are now watched over by the whole group. The journey is short yet very tiresome for Ward and Fraser, forced to walk long distances their legs fuzz with pain as the torn muscles begfor them to stop. Yet they know that pausing is unacceptable, as they do not know what kind of consequences they will face. The more days past, the more Ward and Fraser learned about the aliens, even to the point where they named them for easier recognition. Ward gave up on the idea of trying to communicate with the aliens, as Fraser said it is too dangerous and could cause their death. What Ward and Fraser do not know is that Zara, who is still in charge of them, is undergoing her own investigation. In free time she would put Fraser and Ward together so they can socialize, while she herself is observing from afar. Fascinated by the human''s intellect. ¡°Mi legs killing mi ow langyuhtinkwi a guhhaffi walk?¡± ¡°Days.Weeks.Months. Who the fuck knows, all I can say is we have to move. You don¡¯t want to be food for that thing over there¡± Ward said as he pointed to the large monster behind them. All though they have been walking for a few days now, the jungle does not seem to change. It all looks the same, like walking in a loop. Ward is yet to see rain or changes in the weather, everyday its the same, slight breeze and warm air feel nice to the skin but can drive someone mad over weeks. ¡°Fuck¡± Fraser sighed in anger ¡°Mi nuh showered inna days. All di sweat builds up yuhkno an-¡± ¡°Wait. I think I see something¡± ¡°What? Anotha pair of animal mating?¡± ¡°No, look.¡± Ward pointed at the end of the jungles path that is cut by the daylight. Like the end of a dark tunnel. ¡°There is something there¡± Ward said before looking around. ¡°Have you noticed something?¡± Fraser looked around in attempts to figure out what Ward was talking about ¡°Notice wah?¡± ¡°All of the humanoids have lowered their weapons; they are not at guard anymore. Fucks sake even Bessy lowered down her weapon, and she fucking sleeps with it.¡± ¡°They...They know, that it is safe ahead.¡± Ward turned his head to Fraser, his eyes squinting while a small grin appeared on his face. ¡°This is the end¡± ¡°Now yuh scaring mi more dan di aliens¡± In no time the group reached the end of the path, the bright light blinded Ward and Fraser, causing them to look away. As soon as their eyes adapted to the bright surroundings, their feet refused to move as their eyes got mesmerized by large light stone gates. The walls that are attached to the gates are of the same material and are bent back, indicating that they connect together. Like a large circle of stone to protect whatever is inside. Aliens could be seen atop of these walls, patrolling and looking out for any potential threat. The trees around the large walls are missing, but no stumps are visible. Almost like the tress do not want to grow on the soil near the walls and the gates. Ward and Fraser looked at each other in silence, neither say a word but both know and feel that past these gates, something beyond their understanding is lying in wait. Chapter 5.5 - Abnormal Mars. A place where the HQ of Eos foundation is located. An organisation that is in charge of colonizing the universe, a place where all the bright minds of the world sit together and discuss the future of humanity. Their influence grows with each day as they send out hundreds of spaceships to every corner of the Milkyway, slowly but surely colonizing planet after planet. All though they have been very successful; Eos foundation influence is also causing some distress among the citizens. Many fear Coup d''¨¦tat as the organisation''s military power is substantially more powerful when compared to the international government. Some people even theorize that the government has already fallen, and Eos foundation is in control of everything, but those are just wild rumours and theories among many. Despite all the rumours and speculations, people dream to work there. The first time in human history humans have a chance of expanding its borders beyond their solar system, and everyone wants to take part in it. Be it a scout marine, engineer or a cook at the spacecraft. ¡°A meeting? Well that¡¯s rare¡± One of the combat marines said to a friend of his who he is sharing a room with. Both of them stationed at the HQ until further instructions. ¡°Yeah, apparently something with U03¡± ¡°U03. The scout spacecraft? Did it break down in the middle of the hyperjump or something?¡± ¡°I don¡¯t know, I¡¯ve just heard a rumour that something happened to it. Maybe it got hit by a comet, you know how common that is.¡± ¡°Yeah, but to call a meeting about that? Especially with all the CEOs and the lead scientists present.¡± ¡°Oh no, here we go with another theory¡± ¡°No but seriously, why would they call a meeting about that¡± ¡°Man, I don¡¯t know. Why do you keep asking me shit that you know I don¡¯t know?¡± Love this story? Find the genuine version on the author''s preferred platform and support their work! ¡°Oh but I know why. Something major happened on the ship. Remember that virus that they said they have exterminated?¡± ¡°Yeah?¡± ¡°What if, if they didn¡¯t actually exterminate all of it. And now, it made its way to the U03 and killed everyone¡± ¡°You are trying to tell me, that a virus that caused mild headache and sore throat. Got onto U03 and killed everyone?¡± ¡°It evolved; the sun¡¯s radiation caused it to evolve.¡± ¡°Man, if you so smart. Then why are you in the Combat Marine division?¡± ¡°Because I like shooting stuff, simple¡± ¡°Mhmm. Sure mate¡± ¡°You just jealous I am better than you at shooting¡± ¡°Now that¡¯s the biggest theory yet¡± ¡°I bet today¡¯s dessert that I will hit more targets at the shooting range than you¡± ¡°Deal¡± ¡°They serve cheesecake today. Who would have thought I would have two of them¡± ¡°I can¡¯t wait to rub the win in your face¡± The man responded with a chuckle
The main meeting room. All of the CEOs are present as well as multiple head scientists. The chiefs of engineering and military generals have also been called. The room is filled with all of the high-ranking officers and important figures within Eos foundation. This meeting is unlike others, a rare occasion where the heads of all departments are brought together. Everyone is seated behind a large round wooden table. None say a word, all waiting for a reason for this meeting ¡°Thank you for everyone being here on such short notice¡± A man in his mid-forties said while seated behind the wooden table. He is one of the CEOs and is the person who has called for this meeting. ¡°Me and my fellow business partners as well as the head of science, Mr deep, have organized this meeting due to an ongoing issue with one of the spacecrafts.¡± The light in the room dimmed and a projector turned on behind him, showing pictures of the spacecraft. ¡°A spacecraft by the name of U03 has disappeared off our radar. We received a distress call just before we lost all the contact with the spacecraft. It was due to explore a planet by the name of AON12 but we lost contact when it was entering orbit¡± ¡°Mr Earl, may I ask a question?¡± One of the military generals asked ¡°Of course¡± ¡°Is a large meeting like this really necessary to discuss a missing spacecraft? Though rarely, this does happen, some spacecrafts crash when trying to orbit a planet.¡± ¡°I understand your reason for questioning Mr Donnelly. But this case is different, please hear what Mr Deep has to say about the anomaly his team found while investigating the issue¡± Mr Earl said as he sat back down on his chair ¡°Thank you Mr Earl¡± The head scientist said as he stood up from the seat. The projector now started showing orbital pictures of the planet. ¡°When a spacecraft crashes or when we lose contact should I say, we track the planet and send an investigation team to find out what happened. This time however we have encountered a major problem, we have tried to locate the planet but somehow it disappeared. Like it vanished in thin air. Our high definition telescopes were not able to notice it, and our radars have not been able to pick out any type of radiation in that area. Not only that, but we have found out an anomaly with this planet¡± Mr Deep began shuffling through the pictures on the projector, the picture shows detailed scans of the planet. ¡°As you all know, we scan the planet before sending the scout spacecraft. During the scan, we have detected unusual energy emitting from the planet. This is one of the main reasons why we sent the scout spacecraft in the first place. Now that we have lost contact with it, as well as the planet, it has been our main focus to discover what happened. In the science department that is¡± The scientist sat down as he finished his sentence. ¡°Thank you Mr Deep. This is something we have never encountered and should fully investigate it. Not only that, but the planet itself is a perfect habitat for humans, as well as other life. The planet has or should I say had a very similar atmosphere to earth''s, it also possessed oceans and rivers as well as forests. A perfect habitat not only for us humans but for alien life as well.¡± Mr Early stood back up and looked around the room. The lights turned back on and the full focus of the room is now on him ¡°This is something we have never encountered and should be investigated fully, be prepared to invest your resources into this mission. Any questions?¡± Mr Donnelly raised his hand ¡°Mr Donnelly?¡± ¡°What are we supposed to do now then?¡± ¡°We let Mr Deep and the science wing investigate what happened, we will send research party to the area and ensure that the planet, as well as the spacecraft, have actually vanished. As for everyone else, sit tight and be ready. We might discover something extraordinary.¡± Chapter 6 - Existence And there they stood. In front of the massive gates, ready to be opened as soon as the order passes through. The group¡¯s captain, who is positioned at the front, walked out forward and looked up to the massive gates. As soon as her eyes met with one of the walls commanders, a sharp voice yelled out the command to open the gates. In an instant the gates began submerging beneath the land, almost like a mechanism was built beneath, yet no sound of working gears was produced, indicating that there is no mechanism at all. How? How is this possible? These gates must weight tons, yet no mechanism is bringing them down. No gears are at work. Like it¡¯s floating on air. Ward thought as he looked at the gates gently and soundlessly submerging below the land. Feeling uneasy he averted his eyes to Fraser, only to see him frozen and silent. Just like Ward, his eyes focused on the gates. Unable to explain the phenomenon. ¡°Fraser. Do you have any idea how this is possible?¡± ¡°Sup''mnuh right. Dis a impossible¡± Fraser said as he gulped, sweat slowly drips down his forehead while his knees begin to feel weak. In no time the gates have fully submerged into the ground, and the group began moving once again. Past the gates a small garrison is located, similar but significantly smaller gates are located at the end of the garrison, only to be opened when the wall commander approves the entrance. Not only does the garrison provide lodging for the wall guards, but it also serves as a checkpoint for all the visitors or returning hunters. The city guards itself is a force of highly skilled woman warriors. Their armour is open, similar to the hunters, and their weapons vary between light swords, spears and bows. Unlike the hunters, their armour is not fully of golden colour, but a mixture of both silver and gold. Making them stand out and be easily recognizable. ¡°Captain Maxima¡± The wall commander said as she approached the captain. Oh god, I forgot about her. The captain thought as she saw the wall commander approach her with a smile. ¡°I am glad you have safely returned. I hope the journey did not prove to be too difficult?¡± ¡°Spare the small talk Orisa. Let us through¡± Maxima demanded with a heavy tone Completely ignoring Maxima, Orisa tilted her body to the right and her eyes met with Wards. Her spine shivered and her pupils widened in shock. Yet her facial expression did not change, as to show that a mere alien is not enough to scare her. ¡°And what is that?¡± She asked as her body tilted back to the original position, her face full of curiosity. ¡°Orisa, let us through. We have the direct orders from the Elders¡± Maxima said as she reached her hand out with a piece of paper with the orders. The bottom of the paper is marked with the holy seal, proving its legitimacy. Orisa took the paper from her hand and slowly began reading it. ¡°You are to let us through without any checks as fast as possible.¡± As Orisa¡¯s eyes quickly scanned sentence after sentence, her face began showing a mixed emotion of disappointment and anger. One of her favourite tasks is to check all the equipment and the cargo the hunters brought back. Be it building materials or wild pets, she would want to get her hands on it. Maxima understood her anger and frustration, not being able to look through the cargo is already vexing enough for Orisa, but knowing that it is alien artefact just adds more fuel to the fire. ¡°All right. I see¡± Orisa said as she grits her teeth, her hand clenched in a fist to try and maintain all the anger. Meanwhile, Ward and Fraser try their best to understand where they have been taken. Looking around the area and inspecting every little part of the garrison in detail. ¡°Ward, yuhave any idea wehwi are?¡± Fraser asked, his head moving from right to left, from forward to backward. Making sure his eyes inspect every little detail ¡°I...I don¡¯t know. This looks like a...a checkpoint of some sort. Where they check you perhaps?¡± ¡°Man mi nuh like dis. There mussihundred of dem here¡± Fraser said as he looked around once again. Multiple humanoid guards are staring at them from above, visually inspecting them and preparing their weapons in the case of any shown aggression. Their heavy glare only added onto Fraser¡¯s stress, while Ward did not seem to care. He knows for a fact that if he stays calm and collective no blood will be spilt. Fraser however, is yet to realize that. ¡°Well. Now we know for sure we can¡¯t escape¡± Ward mumbled under his breath ¡°Open the gates!¡± Orisa shouted with clear anger in her voice. As soon as her command was heard the small gates instantly began submerging beneath the land, just like the large gates behind them. Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. As the gates slowly sank into the ground, Orisa walked up closer to Maxima, and began whispering next to her ear, making sure no one else hears her. ¡°You better keep these aliens under control, or I will personally send out my unit to take them out¡± Maxima gazed back at Orisa with a grin ¡°Point taken¡± ¡°Good¡± Orisa added before walking to the stairs that lead to the wall walk. ¡°Zara!¡± ¡°Yes captain?¡± ¡°Keep an extra eye on the aliens. We are now entering the holy city. Make sure they behave themselves and keep quiet. The citizens will already be disturbed with their presence, I don¡¯t want anything else to happen¡± ¡°Of course captain¡± ¡°Good. Prepare to move out!¡± Orisa yelled out, informing the whole group that they need to stand ready. ¡°Yes ma¡¯am!¡± The hunters yelled all at once, their formation did not change when they entered the garrison as the captain did not give the order. All though it is safe within the garrison walls, hunters will never let their guard down. And so, yet another pair of gates sank into the ground. This time however, Ward and Fraser saw something none of them expected. A small and prosperous city the middle of a jungle, guarded by a massive wall that surrounds the town. The houses are made out of stone with pieces of cut wood that serve as doors. The windows are identical to the ones on earth, while large jungle trees erupt from the centre of the houses. Giving the idea that the houses were built around the trees and not cut down. Many aliens are walking the street, enjoying the sunny day while they run their errands. Their appearance is very similar to the hunters, mixture of wooden and stone skin that varies in colour. Children are running around, playing their games and annoying their parents, while shop owners try and sell their goods as they shout about the latest deals, trying their best to attract customers. This is something neither Ward or Fraser expected. To see a city full of life. A large golden temple is also present in the middle of the city, its golden colour shines everywhere as the light reflects from it. Due to the sun, you could spot the temple even a hundred miles away, serving as a beacon of hope and prosperity. The temple serves as a religious place where the aliens can come and worship the gods, it is also a place where sacrifices are taken places and where Ward and Fraser are currently being taken. But most importantly, it is where the elders reside.Where they rule out the laws and perform trials. For aliens this temple is the most sacred place. Said to be built by the gods themselves, it allows the chosen ones to communicate with them and find out what they desire. ¡°What...What is this?¡± ¡°A city full of aliens. Mi nuhkno there suh many of dem¡± ¡°We have discovered, an intelligent race. Able to build communities and communicate with one another. We have made an accidental discovery; we have discovered an intellectual life that humans tried to discover for hundreds of years.¡± Ward almost feels proud about the discovery. Although very horrible circumstances caused him to be here in the first place, Ward can only feel fulfilment. His whole life he wanted to explore a planet with alien life, and now he has the opportunity. To discover what humanityis seeking for so long. He does not care about money or fame, instead, he wants to be a part of human history. The first man to discover intellectual beings outside of earth. ¡°Accidental discoveryyuhsey? Cum wi hope dis discovery winuh end up wi being dead¡± Fraser said as he looked at Ward, his bottom lip shaking while the sweat on from his forehead now drips down his cheeks.
And so the group slowly made their way through the town. The city guard has also joined the group and began escorting them through the streets. All of the eyes are mainly focused on Ward and Fraser, judging every single move they make. The children hide behind their parents while the whole street is silent. Only sounds of loud footsteps echoing through the large streets. Come on people, it¡¯s just a bunch of aliens. Don¡¯t need to laser them with your eyes. Zara thought as she looked around the busy street. Hating the fact that Ward and Fraser are on a public display for everyone to see.Like they are an exotic item in the local bazaar. ¡°Fascinating isn¡¯t it?¡± Ward said as he looked around ¡°Wah?¡± ¡°Based on their reaction. We are the first life they have met outside this planet. Wherever they are taking us must be a place where they can investigate us in detail.¡± ¡°Investigate ow?¡± ¡°Well, most likely how we investigate other life. They will see our behaviour first and how we socialize, then they will look what¡¯s beneath our skin¡± Fraser gulped as his whole body began feeling weak. ¡°Ward wi need fi find a way of getting outta here¡± ¡°We will.Just need to find an opportunity. But for now, keep calm and do not try anything stupid¡± ¡°Okay. Kip calm annuh panic¡± Fraser reassured himself, seeing Ward so calm is both calming and frightening. Yet he is the only person who keeps Fraser from going into a tantrum. Ward once again looked around the silent street, his eyes focused on different types of aliens. Examining them in detail and comparing to the others. Hmm. These look different from the ones in this group. A mixture of what I assume to be female and males. This escort group seems to be solely made out of females, while some of these aliens on the street look like males. Of course, they are taller and stronger, but the similarities to us humans are extraordinary. Frightening even. Upon a better inspection of the alien race, Ward¡¯s eyes met with one of the child''s. The child quickly looked away and hid behind their parents. Frightened by Ward¡¯s gaze. Interesting. The child is frightened by me, that means they can feel fear. Even though I can almost guarantee they have enough power to kill me, they are still not smart enough to understand that they are physically stronger. Just like on earth, children''s brain develops as they grow up. This once again confirms my theory...Or I am just an idiot trying to play scientist. Ward facepalmed in exhaustion. His mind tired even more than his body, these past few days have been a rollercoaster for him and Fraser. Yet he is still baffled that he was able to survive all of it, fate or perhaps just dumb luck. The only thing keeping him from losing it all is the aliens, Ward is determined to find out more and let everyone know about the discovery. A few moments later Ward averted his attention to a large temple in the middle of the city. The group is facing it and seems to make their way there. That must be where they are taking us. It looks like a Mayan temple, the only difference being the enormous size and the golden colour. Must be a special place for them or where the leader resides. ¡°Captain¡± Zara ran up to Maxima who is leading the group through the street. ¡°I have a question if you do not mind¡± ¡°Of course Zara, we do not need to be on such a high alert anymore. The city guard is here and the aliens seem to behave nicely. Don¡¯t know what you did to them but I have not seen them try anything stupid.¡± I didn¡¯t do anything to them as I have been saying. They know not to act aggressively; they know we have an upper hand and they know we will be able to catch them no matter what they try and do. We know this land inside out, while this is a new place for them ¡°I have my ways captain¡± Zara replied with a chuckle ¡°Now what is it you wanted to ask?¡± ¡°Oh, I was wondering what the elders want to do with them. The initial plan was to sacrifice them but I assume the elders have a better idea?¡± ¡°To be honest I do not know. All I did was sent a messenger to inform the elders about alien life. They sent my messenger back with the order to bring the aliens to them as soon as possible. That¡¯s all I know. But I am sure the elders will have a good use of them; we should not question their judgement.¡± ¡°Of course. I just wanted to know if they came to a decision.¡± Through their short journey together, Zara got attached to Ward and Fraser. The idea of sacrificing them to the gods fled away as she realized they are more valuable alive. She realized that she could learn so much if she is able to communicate with them. All of the potential here would go to waste if they are just killed to help the crops grow. ¡°How is your energy training by the way?¡± ¡°Its...Okay, I haven¡¯t been able to focus as much lately.¡± ¡°Bad trainer?¡± ¡°I wouldn¡¯t say bad, just don¡¯t feel like he is the right one you know¡± ¡°Have you considered changing?¡± ¡°Actually, Faryeha said she can train me. I would prefer her as well as we are friends¡± ¡°Oh Faryeha, yeah she had the similar problem to yours when she started out. If she was able to figure it out, it will probably for the best to have her as your mentor¡± ¡°If you don¡¯t mind me asking, how did were you able to overcome it? Especially at such a young age¡± ¡°I just felt that I knew what to do. I learned how to control it at a young age, so when the energy level increased, my ability to control it got a lot better. And by the time I was a full adult, I was able to control large amounts of energy flawlessly. For you, it¡¯s way harder as you have discovered it recently, not including the fact your energy level is through the roof. Something you don¡¯t see everyday¡± ¡°I see¡± ¡°But that does not mean you will not be able to control it. With enough practice and dedication, you will be able to do it¡± From an early age, Zara did not possess any type of energy. A very uncommon defect that happens to a very small percentage of children. When a child is born without energy, they tend to live a short life and will not be able to use their body to its full capability. There is only one treatment to the solution, and that is to be submerged in the well of life. Where gods will decide the child''s fate, to lend the child powers or to let it die. If the gods see potential, they will let the child live, if not, the child dies and becomes one with the planet and its nature. That¡¯s the treatment Zara had to undergo, and lucky for her, gods saw an opportunity in her and let her live. The one consequence of being granted a second lifeis the lack of control of the amount of energy the gods gave. Zara has been struggling with it for years, changing from mentor to mentor, she was not able to master it. The elders even appointed her in the hunter''s squad, hoping that she will be able to learn from them but so far it has proven to have no effect. ¡°Thank you Orisa, I mean captain¡± ¡°Orisa is fine, don¡¯t worry¡± Zara let out a warm smile and returned to her original position, standing close to Ward and Fraser. ¡°Wi suh fucked bredda¡± Fraser said as he once again looked around, his face now covered in sweat while his legs refuse to walk. ¡°What did I say about staying calm, don¡¯t worry¡± ¡°Y-You nuhknowehdem taking wi. Wah eff dem a guh kill wi?¡± ¡°...¡± ¡°Wah mi asking? Mi knodemwi kill wi! But before datdemwidissectwi an luk at fi wi insides¡± ¡°I swear Fraser, shut the fuck up. If you want them to kill us right now, keep being a dumbass¡± ¡°I-I-¡± ¡°Just shut up, and keep calm. Unless your ass wants to die right now¡± ¡°Wah di point? Wi a guh dead anyways¡± ¡°The point is that we don¡¯t know what they might do to us¡± ¡°Yuh say it yuhselfdemwi cut wi open¡± ¡°Yes I did, but I am not a hundred percent sure that they will do that. They are different fromus¡± ¡°Bu-¡± ¡°Yes I did say that they are similar, but not entirely like us. They may spare us, who knows. Just sit tight and be calm.¡± Fraser closed his eyes and slowly began breathing in and out, trying his best to calm down his nerves. ¡°All right But mi naahguh dung without a fight¡± ¡°Trust me, neither am I" And there they stood. In front of the large golden temple. Its vivid colour almost blinds the eyes while multiple sentinelsare stationed all around, guarding the perimeter. These sentinels are not equipped with the same open armour as the hunters and the city guards. Instead, their whole bodies are covered with silver armour, noweak points to be seen. Their weapons differ from person to person, but females usually carry two light swords, while most males hold large shields with spears. The temple itself is surrounded by a tall wall, not as tall as the garrisons, but still large enough to stop anyone from entering the temple premises. Same as the garrison, multiple sentinels walk the wall, guarding the area and ensuring the wall is not being breached. The group now stands in front of the temple gates, waiting for the command that will open the gates. While Ward and Fraser prepare themselves to attack whatever is inside head on. Chapter 7 - Enigma Slowly the gates in front of them began rising, just like the previous ones, they moved without any visible mechanism. The only difference being the way they open, lifting themselves up instead of submerging below the land. ¡°Here we are again¡± Orisa muttered under her breath as the group proceeded inside the temple¡¯s outer area. Multiple sentinels are lined up from both sides while a commander stands in at the end of the two lines, in front of the temple¡¯s entrance. His whole body is covered in silver and gold armour, while a long dark red cape hangs from his shoulders. Pieces of red cloths are attached to his pauldrons, and are wrapped around his waist, making him stand out even more. His face however, is covered with a helmet, making it harder to visualize the facial appearance. When looking at him, one might imagine a knight commander, the only missing part being his sword or a spear. Instead, he is holding a long stiff staff, its end equipped with a cleanly cut rectangular piece of stone. While veins of dark green energy run through it, making it slightly glow. As soon as Orisa saw the commander, she began walking towards him. While the group stayed back, awaiting the command to move. ¡°Welcome honoured hunter, I hope Ol¡¯ans granted you a safe passage¡± The sentinel commander spoke, his voice heavy and slightly muffled due to the helmet. ¡°They indeed have, it is an honour to be here¡± ¡°All that are allowed here are chosen to be here¡± The sentinel commander then looked over Orisa shoulder and saw the whole group stand together. Seeing Ward and Fraser did not cause him to react, in fact, he did not care about them. Instead, he began observing the rest of the hunters. ¡°Your warriors must be tired from the long journey. The elders invite you and your group to stay until the ceremony¡± ¡°One is a blind fool to deny the invitation from the holy ones. I, as well as my group, will take this gracious invitation.¡± ¡°Perfect, please follow me I will show you to your quarters¡± These guards look different from the ones we met in the garrison; they have a weird vibe to them. Something is strange about them, and I can feel it. Ward thought as he looked at the sentinels in detail, he then averted his attention and began observing the temple¡¯s outer area. So this area is pretty much like a defence point, a very strict area it seems. That alien inf ront really reminds of knights, I assume the armour is there to better protect him? Or is it just to show that he is the commander? ¡ Now that I look at it, this race really isn¡¯t that advanced. I mean they are able to make tools and form cities but. They are yet to reach a peak of advanced technology as we did. They probably don¡¯t even know what electricity is. ¡°Ward¡± Ward looked over to Fraser, his face still sweating while his breathing now more stable ¡°Waah dis place?¡± ¡°Looks like a temple of some sort, perhaps it''s their religious place. Where they pray or something¡± ¡°Dem ave religion?¡± ¡°Most likely, they are intellectual beings after all. They can believe in powers beyond their existence, just like us¡± ¡°Wi fucked aren''t we?¡± ¡°I don¡¯t know. But I know we have some kind of value to them¡± ¡°Dem wudda kill wi, eff datneva it¡± ¡°Exactly, as long as we prove useful to them. We survive¡± ¡°An ow wi a guh duh that?¡±Support the author by searching for the original publication of this novel. ¡°I will try and communicate with them, and don¡¯t you even try and convince me not to¡± ¡°...¡± ¡°Be careful den¡± ¡°Trust me I will¡±
The group is now on the move once again, accompanied by sentinel''s commander, they slowly begin entering the large temple in front of them ¡°Hey Faryeha¡± Zara said as she approached Faryeha ¡°Hey Zara, you not guarding the prisoners anymore?¡± ¡°Nope, the sentinels took over. Apparently, they can ¡°handle¡± it better¡± Zara said with little frustration in her voice. ¡°Oh don¡¯t worry about it, everyone knows it was your idea to bring them here, no one is going to take your credit¡± ¡°You almost say it like it¡¯s a bad thing¡± ¡°No of course this is a big discovery, but some people disagree of bringing them into a city, especially the one where elders reside.¡± ¡°Well it was an order, what can I say about that.¡± ¡°Order?¡± ¡°Don¡¯t tell anyone I told you but¡± Zara began talking quietly, almost whispering ¡°Apparently the elders sent an order to the cap, saying that the alien life must arrive atthe temple asap¡± ¡°Is that the reason why we rushed to the city?¡± ¡°It should be, I don¡¯t see any other reasons¡± ¡°Makes sense. Well, who cares about it anyways. When do you want to train?¡± ¡°Train? Umm, probably after all of this is over. I will talk with one of the temple seniors, see if they can give us an area to train¡± ¡°Wow look at you, connections all around¡± ¡°Just know a lot of people here. Been training in this place for the past ten years.¡± Zara said with a small chuckle ¡°Must have been tough¡± ¡°It wasn¡¯t too bad really. I still got to go out into the city and all, it was just hard to make friends there¡± ¡°Better to be in the hunter''s squad, am I right?¡± ¡°Oh for sure, I wouldn¡¯t have met you if it wasn¡¯t the case¡± ¡°Same here¡± Faryeha said with a smile The group has now fully entered into the temple. Large corridors were created inside the temple, allowing large groups of people to move around without issues. There is no need for torches during the day as multiple strips of walls are missing from the temple¡¯s sides, allowing sunlight and fresh air to slip inside the corridors and halls. Inside the temple, not only are sentinel that guard it are present, but also different workers that have their own jobs and responsibilities. The temple is also equipped with dozens of large rooms for the guests, with its own balconies that overlook the city. Multiple large gardens with ponds are located behind the temple, where priests can meditate and pray in silence. The temple structure is complex and beautiful. There are three layers of floors in the temple, the bottom layer being the main corridor and the main hall, where the elders gather to discuss important topics. The middle layer being the living quarters, where rooms, kitchen and balconies are located for guests and staff to use. And the top layeris the place where the well of life is located, guarded by the strongest and the best of the best sentinels. The third layer is also missing a roof, allowing one to see over the beautiful city and the large jungle. ¡°So Orisa, tell me more about these aliens¡± The sentinel commander said, him and Orisa positioned in front of the group, leading them through the corridors. His helmet now taken off and held by his right hand. ¡°There isn¡¯t much to tell if I am being honest. We haven¡¯t had the time to fully explore their nature and minds¡± ¡°Well you must have figured out something¡± ¡°Well thanks to Zara, we have¡± Orisa paused and cleared her throat. ¡°From what Zara told me, these aliens are very intelligent. While their bodies are weak and fragile their mind is the complete opposite. They are able to communicate with one another, show emotion and adapt to their surroundings.¡± ¡°Okay, what makes you think they are intelligent?¡± ¡°From what Zara told me, they process high technology. She also questions how they arrived here. If they created that giant floating bird, that is able to carry hundreds of them, then what else can they do?¡± ¡°I see, anything else?¡± ¡°No, in the end we are not researches, we are hunters.¡± ¡°No no, I understand. Good work¡± ¡°...¡± ¡°So, how''s umm, life...lately¡± ¡°Small talk to fill in the void?¡± he chuckled ¡°Okay you don¡¯t have to answer¡± Orisa said as she avoided looking into the commander¡¯s direction ¡°It¡¯s good, I get to protect the elders with my life and that¡¯s all I could ask for¡± ¡°All you could ask for?¡± ¡°...¡± He sighed and looked down at his feet, trying his best to come up with a suitable answer ¡°I still miss you Orisa, and you know that. But you also know that we can¡¯t have our relationship while I serve the elders. It''s strictly prohibited.¡± ¡°No I understand, I know. I will go check how the group is holding up¡± Orisa said with a brittle voice, before turning around and walking into the group of talking hunters. ¡°Damn it¡± The commander mumbled to himself Meanwhile, Ward and Fraser try their best to analyse the situation. Still tied up they make their way through the long and large corridors, positioned in the middle of the group. Where everyone has a clear vision of them. ¡°This place is massive¡± Ward said as he looked around. The large corridor is entirely made out of stone, while the right side has missing strips of walls, allowing sunlight to slip through and light up the whole area. Sounds of birds from the outside,as well as the fresh air, perfectly accompanies the sunlight, making the area even more beautiful and tranquil. The group¡¯s chatter barely echoes through these corridors, but seeing everyone at peace and not at high alert gives comfort, even for Ward and Fraser. ¡°This must be their main HQ¡± ¡°Yeah, dis place unlike nuhtingwiave seen suh far¡± ¡°It¡¯s like a mixture of Mayan and Egyptian temple, the architecture is absolutely phenomenal. I wish places like that existed back on earth¡± ¡°Dem did at sum point¡± ¡°Yeah until Eos bought the land off the government and built their bases there. I sadly never got the chance to visit those places¡± ¡°Ow come?¡± ¡°My family rarely had vacations, mom would work till night to pay fathers debts while he himself hid from the authorities and police¡± ¡°Muss ave been tought¡± ¡°It wasn¡¯t that bad really, my grandfather really helped me out in tough times, and as soon as I hit the age of eighteen, I left for the army¡± ¡°Mi si. Well mi it a mi tun now¡± Fraser said, feeling the obligation of telling how he got in the army, now that Ward shared his past. ¡°Mi whole famblyinna di army. Itskinda a tradition at this point¡± ¡°What if you don¡¯t want to go¡± ¡°Yuh ave no choice, dem very strickwid it. Yuhguh or get disowned¡± ¡°Disowned, that¡¯s harsh¡± ¡°Yeah, mi guess yuhcyasi which option mi choose¡± ¡°To be honest I would rather be disowned than be in this shitty situation¡±¡± ¡°Yuh get me¡± The group then suddenly stopped. Fraser and Ward tilted their bodies from left to right to try and see what caused it. Upon finding a position where they can see what¡¯s ahead, they saw the sentinel commander standing and facing the group. Behind him, an enormous door is located. Light brown in colour, its materials consist of polished wood and shiny steel. All fitted well enough to make the door seem impenetrable. Among many carved in symbols, the door also seems to possess what looks like a large lock. The lock has six tubes, three from both sides, and two large hand marks located in the centre. As soon as the group stopped moving, Orisa walked out to the front. Upon seeing her, the commander began talking ¡°Orisa, I would you, Zara and the prisoners to remain here. Your group will be escorted by the priests to their quarters¡± ¡°May I ask the reason?¡± ¡°Because that¡¯s what the elders want, now is not the time to be stubborn. The priests will show them the way¡± Orisa looked to the side for a moment ¡°Okay, I will let them know¡± Orisa turned around and began loudly speaking to the group, making sure everyone hears her well. ¡°Hunters! Everyone except Zara is to proceed to the quarters and rest, the priests will show escort you. Take this as a day off. That¡¯s an order¡± ¡°Yes Ma¡¯am¡± Why would the captain need me? Is it because I was in charge of the prisoners? Zara thought as she jogged from the middle of the group all the way to the front, where the commander and Orisa are standing. ¡°Captain?¡± ¡°Yes Zara, bring the prisoners here and watch over them¡± ¡°May I know why?¡± ¡°Zara that¡¯s an Order, no questions¡± ¡°Of course captain¡± Zara nodded before running off into now moving group. All of the hunters are being led to their quarters by priests. Priests vary in ranks, ranging from white attire as being level one to red and green, being level two and three. ¡°Where is everyone going?¡± Ward asked ¡°Mi nuh kno¡± ¡°I was getting used to them as well¡± Ward said with a laugh before his attention got caught by Zara, jogging towards them. As soon as she was in front of them, she grabbed the rope and began leading them to the large doors in front, where Orisa and the commander standing in wait. ¡°Here captain¡± Zara said as she pulled Ward and Fraser forward The rest of the group has not fully left the area, leaving eleven people standing in front of the massive door. Among Zara, Ward, Fraser, Orisa and the commander six priests stood by them. Dressing in a different attire when compared to the other priests, they are dressed in long black robes while their arms are hidden within the large sleeves. ¡°Zara¡± The commander began speaking ¡°Sir?¡± ¡°We, including you, will enter through this door. I am positive that you are aware of what is inside¡± ¡°I indeed do¡± Zara said without changing her facial expression. Keeping it straight and serious. ¡°The reason for you being there is because you are most familiar with the aliens. They will want to hear about your discoveries¡± ¡°I will do my best¡± ¡°Perfect! Open the door!¡± The commander demanded Almost instantly the priests took their positions, three priests lined up to the right of the commander while the rest on the left, ready on his command. The commander, as well as the priests, stood in front of the gates, their hands pressed together while the eyes are closed shut. Together all seven stood still, concentrating on their energy. Then Ward and Fraser noticed something they couldn¡¯t describe. Thick lines of light green energy began emerging from the priest''s backs, slowly but surely making their way towards the lock¡¯s tubes in front of them. The commander, however, has a different visual energy, it is darker in colour and the end of it take a shape of hands. After a few seconds, the hands now have taken a more vivid shape and began making their way to the imprint above the tubes. As soon as the hands pressed against the imprint and all the priests attached their energy lines to the tubes, invisible vines began glowing on the door and with a loud clonk, the lock unlocked itself. The door slowly began opening by itself and the group was now able to proceed inside another long corridor that leads into the unknown. ¡°Wah di fuck mi did just si¡± Fraser quietly whispered ¡°I-I don¡¯t know, but whatever is ahead. I don''t have a good feeling about it¡±
