γI am the supreme evils daughterγ
Chapter 1: The Final Raid
The distant fires all over the county create great plumes of smoke which light up the night, and a warm breeze brings the smell of burnt wood and flesh all over the battlefield before the enormous shielded bridge. The burnt smell mixes with the smell of fresh blood spilling out of the lifeless humanoid and monster corpses into great pools. Then the sound of steel exiting flesh is heard.
"That was the last of the trash mobs." A handsome manly voice is heard nearby twenty people.
"I can never get quite used to that sound. Games are darn realistic these days." A soft female voice is then heard from a figure completely covered in a mismatching set of robe armor in all manner of colors and shapes.
"Hey, be quiet over there!" A rough voice is then heard from a man riding an exotic looking mount. He wears a matching black armor set with oversized pauldrons, and on his back he have a giant hammer holstered. "According to the rest of our guild the shield generators should be all destroyed soon."
Suddenly the noise of footsteps and monster snarls are heard over from the shielded bridge. Not before long the humanoids make a shield wall which make the bridge entrance completely airtight. They try to intimidate the invading force by bashing their weapons against their shields and then letting out loud war cries. Together with the monsters they create quite the racket with their cries.
"Oi, they look impatient. They must be quite pissed at our presence." Said the handsome voice which now moved out of the group. He wears a shining polished white armor which matches his golden colored eyes with the golden trims. As he walks toward the monsters on the bridge he points his enormous flaming flamberge sword towards them while grinning. "I won''t mind if they all come at me at once."
The rest of the invasion force rolls their eyes and then steps into a line formation with the white armored man. Not long after comes the mounted guy behind the white armored man. He scans the enemy formation in front of his squad slowly before making a grimace.
"The shield barrier should go down any second now." The mounted man then pulls out his enormous hammer from his back, and the mount magically disappears. With his hammer resting on his shoulder, he grabs the shoulder of the white armored man. "Sir Lance, when we pull this off, our guild will go down in history."
Lance and the black armored man happily grin at each other. And Lance then leaves space for him to stand next to him. They both put down their weapons into the ground to await the barriers demise.A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
After a minute the barriers strength start fluctuating and enormous pillars of light are seen all around the county. The guarding force then look around behind their shield wall before refocusing on the invaders. They then start to rhythmically bang their shields meanwhile the monsters start readying their breath weapons, and the mages start buffing the warriors.
"Its showtime." Says Lance as he pulls out his enormous sword which reignites and throws remnants of flames onto the ground. He then readies his sword so he can perform a wide low swing. Meanwhile pulls the black armored man down the face guard on his helmet and prepares to perform a wide swing over head. They both have battle crazed grins as they anticipate the slaughter.
Their party now starts buffing themselves and lay down traps for the defending force. Archers prepare to snipe the enemy mages, meanwhile the mages start chanting in order to cast devastating spells.
The tension is now at an all time high between the sides. And then with a loud crack shatters the barrier like glass. In an instant the tense atmosphere disappears and all hell breaks loose. Arrows powerful enough to punch a hole through a castle wall hits the defending mages, and what is left of them is just a smear of blood on the ground as they sail through the sky with their heads missing. Simultaneously are the front row of defending humanoid soldiers both getting their heads caved in and their legs chopped off through the shields. Then they get set ablaze and shortly after burn down into fine ash.
In the next minute gets the defending force pelted with a blizzard made out of magical ice and an elemental meteor shower. The assault does not just stop there, several pillars of light shine upon them which causes anyone unfortunate to instantly become ash dolls which just require a breeze to disintegrate. The defenders suffer heavy casualties from this move of magical supremacy by the invaders.
For the next ten minutes the invading force shows no signs of slowing down as they mowed through the defenders. Occasionally bursts of red light could be seen from the castle windows which lit up the mayhem going on outside.
Halfway through the bridge, swooped an enormous scarred dragon down onto the bridge. With a great quake landed it in front of Lance and black armored man. As it looked down at them it let out a loud roar while showing its head which half of is a prosthetic made out of golden metals and trimmed with purple metals. With its great entrance the battle was halted for a moment and it then began to speak.
"Foolish heroesss... You dare yet again show yourselves in front of Raal''tara''goto''s castle!" Its eyes then begin to flare out and the tail start swinging. "The sheer offensiveness of your actions mark you for death!" The dragon then let out another roar before breathing out hellfire.
Shielded by their buffs Lance and black armored man charges the dragon to bring their own arguments back at it. What ensued was an argument of great proportions which caused the deaths of at least five of their squad and all of the defending army on the bridge.
The dragon flies away heavily damaged and gained yet more scars after its defeat by the invaders.
"Damn dragon! Die already!" Cursed Lance as the dragon now is long gone in the distance.
Chapter 2: The Supreme Evil Beckons
In the throne room sit two figures in two thrones next to each other. The lavishly decorated throne room yet had to get its carpet cleaned, which frustrated the supreme evil Raal''tara''goto Doombringer greatly. If it weren''t for this, then the massive room would had put him in a great mood. At least with his wife Isabella next to his side, is his mood on the upside.
Then suddenly the pained roar of a dragon and frantic flapping of wings reaches the throne room. Raal''tara''goto then just sighs and marks another notch on the black slate in his hand. With the other hand he puts his face into it for a short while. Isabella Doombringer which is his wife then grabs his hand.
"Darling, again?" She raises her eyebrows as she ask him. He then peeks his eye through his hand in which he put a finger aside in the middle.
"Yes, again." He sighs and puts the slate aside and removes his hand from his face, and instead touches the cheek of Isabella with it. "I should raise that dragons pay. That poor thing have more scars than scales now."
"That poor dragon. Loyal despite the hell he puts himself through... Maybe he should retire." Isabella pouts as she talks about the dragon. Then suddenly the main throne room doors slams open and a woman with pointy ears, horns and a tail bursts through.
"Ralto! The damn heroes are at our gates again!" The woman shouts at Raal''tara''goto, which also got the nickname of Ralto. She pants because of how fast she ran to the throne room.
"At ease Ni''rei. You should only report if anything unusual happens." He waves at her while looking bored out of his mind. Ni''rei just looks like a deer in the headlights toward Ralto.
"U- U- Unusual? This is not unusual?" Ni''rei asked while being dumbfounded. Ralto then grins and looks up and then after a few seconds looks at her again..
"I forgot that you are newly appointed. My apologies. If you stay by me you will know why." Ralto then waves for Ni''rei to come over, which she obediently does. She stands next to him and starts waiting with her arms crossed.
A little while earlier...
Outside the castle gates, the battle still rages on. Lance has now slain countless of enemy soldiers and monsters. His previously polished armor is now coated in a layer of blood, and his long hair is stained at the tips with blood as well.
"Deathshead, how are you holding up?" Lance shouted over the battlefield while beheading three soldiers at once.Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
"I am holding up good myself, how about you?" Deathshead replies meanwhile pulverizing the upper body into paste of a lesser dragon with his giant hammer. "...where the hell do the supreme evil get all these irritations from!?"
"They are free spawns of the castle, Deathshead. Is fighting the only thing in your head?" Says the female voice in the mismatched armor again as she turns a group of enemies into dust with chain lightning.
"Shut up Mystia, you prick!" Replies Deathshead to her and angrily explodes a soldier by directly hitting it with an overhead smash. Limbs, blood and gore flies all over the battlefield. He then cries out: "Keep killing them. We have soon fulfilled the requirements for the gate to open!"
After twenty minutes of grueling battle, all defenders now laid down on the battlefield slain. Behind the gates could the sound horns be heard as the gate slowly started opening. By this time the other squads of their guild starts to rejoin with the assault squad which is spearheaded by Lance, Deathshead and Mystia.
Instead of a squad, they are now a small army of two hundred players! With their fighting force now ten times than it was before, the real steamrolling of the defending trash mobs can now begin.
"Hahaha, the guild of Heavenly Alliance will be known throughout history now!" Yells Lance while holding his sword high up above his head. Behind him stands the rest of his guild, with only Deathshead and Mystia by his side.
His confidence is not unfounded. Heavenly Alliance is among the Top 10 strongest guilds in the game. They have many achievements under their belt such as being the first guild to reach the bottom layer of The Eleven Hells. While not unfounded, it is not an easy feat to defeat the supreme evil which acts as the final raid boss in the game.
As the gate was nearly fully opened by now, a horde of eldritch hounds flooded out from the gate. They used it as a ramp to pounce at the invaders below. This surprise attack wounded many players but in the end the surprise attack was repelled.
"Damn dogs!" Cried Lance out as he skewered a eldritch hound with his sword. It took just a few seconds until this eldritch hound shish kebab stopped struggling. He then kicked off its lifeless body. "What more surprises will they have for us!?"
"This is getting tiring. I want a real fight." Sighed Deathshead as he stood on top a pile of eldritch hound corpses with his giant hammer resting on his shoulder. He then looks at the main castle entrance and see a slender figure with horns and a tail run into it while slamming the doors open. Deathshead then smiles and jump off his grand masterpiece. "So you are panicking, huh?"
"Tch, the enemy are reporting our progress." Says Mystia very coldly. Her robes are now covered in layers of caked up ash, dust and blood. "We must stop them, let''s go." She then looks at Deathshead and Lance.
With almost all resistance defeated they then organize themselves, and begin entering the grand castle itself. As they walk towards the entrance they notice how all remaining monsters and soldiers start retreating. Lance, Deathshead and Mystia took this as a sign they were winning. They felt content and smiled as they casually walked into the castle entrance.
After navigating the enormous castle and fighting off token resistance they finally arrived outside the throne room. They felt an oppressive aura by just being outside the throne room.
Chapter 3: Confronting the Supreme Evil
Ralto Doombringer and his wife Isabella are now bored out of their minds. This group of heroes sure take their sweet time to confront them. During the dead time they busied themselves with getting paperwork done and playing card games. How can they be so calm despite their home being raided at this very moment? It is a matter of many years of experience.
"Dear, at this rate the carpet will never get replaced." Ralto talked casually with his wife Isabella as he stared out into space on his throne. This was one of many thoughts which went through his mind this very moment. Danger was not even once at his mind at all though.
"Mhmm, darling. Our bed is still covered in blood too. How annoying, tch." Isabella laments and lets out a sigh while playing with her hair. The never ending source of trouble has left their once pristine home in a state of disrepair. She then started to lightly tap her foot onto the tiled floor.
Ni''rei meanwhile has a look of bewilderment on her. She thought they are crazy for taking this so casually. At this point she wondered what she has got herself into. According to the wanted jobs poster they needed a messenger. Skill and experience wasn''t taken into account. So did she pick the short straw this time, and is now working for a suicidal employer?
"They are getting closer~" Sings Isabella in a mocking tone. She then starts humming and puts one of her legs on top of the other while leaning back comfortably in her cushioned throne. Looks like she is getting ready for a grand show to start. If only she had popcorn, then the experience would be complete.
"Finally! I can''t wait to get this over with!" Cries Ralto out in joy as he snaps out of his daydreaming. He can''t wait to get off this throne. Ralto have many hobbies he enjoy partaking in, and tonight he would have a scrap booking session with his family. So the faster he can get this over with, the better. The time of a supreme evil is very precious these days.
After ten minutes, the sounds of bashing are heard from the other side of the throne room door. This just makes Ralto and Isabella to start sighing. The look of irritation is very noticeable on them. "The door is not locked you idiots!" They screamed internally. After a minute or so, muffled chatter was heard behind the door. And after that "Aha!" sounds are heard as they opened the door a bit instead. The heroes finally figured out the door was unlocked. This novel is published on a different platform. With a loud slam the door swung open, and the force was strong enough that one of the hinges are ruined, which causes the door to lie limp on the wall. Then three people could be seen in the vacant door frame, and behind them at least a hundred more people. The main three stepped forward to the steps near the thrones with their weapons and magic at the ready.
"This is it for you supreme evil! Face your death with dignity!" Yelled the white armored man with golden eyes and blood tipped hair. He pointed his enormous flaming sword at Ralto which did not even acknowledge him.
"Hahaha, this castle will be ours, and there is nothing you can do about it." Mocked the black armored man with the giant hammer which rested on his shoulder. Isabella simply looked at him as if he is a mere irritation.
"You guys love your role play. Let''s get this fight over with." Says a female voice in a mismatched set of armor. Ni''rei simply gives her a death glare and then puts her arms behind her back.
"Hahaha! The last group of heroes did not even bother talking to me!" Ralto said cheerfully, because talkative heroes put him in a good mood. Taunting heroes is one of his more newly acquired hobbies over the years. "Say... Who sent you this time? Archangel Gabriel? The Society of Champions?"
The three invaders in front of him looked at each other and now felt unsure of what Ralto was talking about. Then slammed the black armored man down his giant hammer onto the ground which caused the floor tiles to crack all around him.
"None of them sent us here! This is purely a conquest for the Heavenly Alliance!" The man then points at Ralto. "All we desire is that everyone in this castle die, and that the castle is comes under our control." He then makes a cutting motion across his throat. Ralto just sighs and looks unimpressed as ever. Ralto must had heard this line for the thousandth time now.
"I would love you to try!" Ralto says as he stands up while scoffing at the pathetic claim made by this invader. He puts both his hands on the sides of his waist and give the invaders a dead serious look. "The day you as much as breathe at my family, is the day I will personally torment your soul all eternity."
Isabella now yawns. The show has not yet started which makes her already low levels of excitement almost non existent. She had much more excitement in her life when she was a beggar at the lowest level of hell. Ever since she and her husband fell in love down there, the dangers of life simply ceased to exist.
Suddenly do everyone look toward the hallway coming out from the side of Isabella. Footsteps and yawning are heard along with a leathery scraping sound. The invaders start sounding nervous as they ready their weapons. Another horror arriving onto the scene?
As the footsteps stopped echoing and the source of it stepped in, a remarkable sight could be seen...
Chapter 4: Confusion
Be''ial''ale Doombringer, also more commonly known as Biali by her friends, woke up because of the incredibly loud racket going on outside. She had went to bed early today so she could feel fresh for the tea party with her friends tomorrow. But now is that plan completely thrown out the window because of all that noise going on outside making it impossible to sleep.
"Ugh!" Cried Biali out in frustration as she covered the blanket over her head. She tried her best to fall asleep again while covering her ears, but the noise of a door being smashed in echoed throughout the hallways outside.
"Damn it! Can''t a lady get her beauty sleep around here!?" Said Biali in frustration under her blanket before sitting up in her bed, making her cute night gown clearly visible. She let out a long yawn and grabbed her favorite plushie next to her. She then stepped out of her bed and into her bunny slippers.
She scratched her back before setting out into the hallways leading toward the throne room. Since Biali could not fall asleep as easily again, she wanted to spend some time with her mommy before going to bed again. It took a minute or so to sleepily drag herself toward the throne room.
As Biali entered the throne room she did not notice the uninvited guests as she homed in for Isabella. Everyone looked incredibly confused as to why this teenage girl in a night gown entered the scene. Well, except for her father Ralto. Which now looked at the uninvited guests with even more contempt and anger. His eyes now started to glow red with great fury.
"Mommy... Daddy... Who are these people?" Asked Biali in an incredibly sleepy manner as she finally saw lots of people in the throne room in her blurred vision. She then calmly seated herself in the lap of her mother Isabella while holding her plush in her arms. Without seemingly caring she started napping in the embrace of her mother.
"What is the meaning of this!?" Yelled one of the uninvited guests in a black armor who had a giant hammer in his arms. He looked extremely furious at the scenario that played out now. This noisy man woke Biali up a bit and she opened up her tired eyes as much as she could.Support the author by searching for the original publication of this novel.
Biali then looked at the strangely clothed people after clearing her eyes. She saw they all wore funny armors and carried weapons with the most exotic designs. Some of them even carried colorful tomes which they now nervously browsed.
"...they never mentioned anything about the spawn of the supreme evil..." Muttered a female cold voice in a mismatching set of armor. She rotated her head in order to get a better view of Biali. Her heartbeat started to increase now. This unknown variable could jeopardize the entire raid.
Lance face now started to be filled with disgust instead of confusion. "So I will have to slay that brat too? No matter, juveniles are easier to take down than fully grown monsters." He now put his sword above his head and took up an aggressive stance. His comment clearly provoked the supreme evil which now started talking again.
"You men got quite the nerve to claim that you will murder my dear daughter in front me." Ralto snarled as he started intimidating the invaders. This was enough to make the weaker willed invaders to take up defensive stances. "This is unforgivable. Slay my men and subordinates, and I do not even think of it. They will rise back from the dead to serve me again once I banish you all back."
Ralto now rose out of his throne and started hovering above the floor. All of the invaders now took up defensive positions and readied their weapons. He then sighed as an aura of extreme evil permeated the entire throne room.
"Slay my family, and I fear they will not rise again." He then gave the main three invaders the death glare. All of them shuddered as he looked them into their eyes. Ralto then yelled at them: "I will conquer the world for my family if it will make them safe. Do not think your aggression today will go unpunished!"
The entire throne room started shaking now, which little by little started waking up the incredibly sleepy Biali. Despite being in the comforting embrace of her mother Isabelle, it is nearly enough to rouse her back from her lap nap.
"Monster!" Cried all of the main three invaders out towards the supreme evil and his family. Then the rest of the invaders started making war cries and thumping their weapons into the floor. All this noise was enough to completely wake Biali up. She shot up like a bursting volcano.
"Shut up!" Biali yelled then incredibly loudly in response to this racket in the throne room. She pointed her finger accusingly toward the main three invaders. There was only thing that rose up from the depths of her mind.
"Damn heroes! I hate you all!" She then started to feel like she just wanted to cry. What these heroes did not know is that during her whole upbringing, she never felt true peace which started a life long vendetta.
It all started way back when she was born...
Chapter 5: The Supreme Evils Daughter
In an early morning while the birds still were chirping their morning song, and the warm moisture in the air condensed onto the cold stone bricks and grass. A couple and a nurse are in a room, near the top of the castle. That room is filled with various medical equipment and potions. In there lie a woman which is laboring under childbirth.
"Come on sweetie, push again!" Says the female nurse. She got black dragon wings on her back, tiny pointed horns on her head and legs which look like they come from a dragon. The nurse is covered from top to toe in an expensive looking robe.
The other person in the room kneels next to the laboring woman and holds her hand. He is deep in thought and quiet prayers can be heard from him. The childbirth took them all two hours to perform in total, but in the end a healthy baby girl was born...

Still exhausted from childbirth the man and woman hold the baby girl in their arms. The atmosphere now is one of serenity and joy. Even the nurse is exhausted from this, she just lies down in the armchair in the while taking a nap.
"Darling, what shall we name her?" Says the woman as she gently touch the cheek of her baby. The man looks as if he never been as happy before as he is now. He just can''t stop smiling.
"Isabella, maybe after my fathers family. Before he got slain by heroes three hundred years ago, he had a wife with the name of Be''ial''yuna. Sadly she died in childbirth, while leaving me alive." The man sighed as he recounted past history. Isabella then touched him on the chin.
"Ralto, my darling. We got our own future right here on me. Be''ial''yuna will approve dearly." Isabella smiled as she comforted Ralto with her soft motherly voice. Ralto sighs again and put up a smile, and then looks at they newly born baby girl.
"Be''ial''ale, in honor of Be''ial''yuna, my mother. What do you think, my love?" He asks Isabella who looks intrigued by the name. Her tail on her side twitches with excitement. You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.

"Be''ial''ale..." Ralto happily says to himself as he hugs Biali. She is now stuck between the warm comforting embrace of her parents. If she would had have a properly developed consciousness, she would had been overjoyed by what is transpiring now.
"I wonder what our daughter will grow up to become? As intelligent as my lovely wife, or as powerful as her father, that is me?" Ralto casually walked toward the window overlooking the bridge to the castle while he talked. He then stops by the window and, and with a pause he asks: "Dear, what do you think of her future?"
"I do not know... The heroes which stopped coming after your father died three hundred years ago, are now coming back..." Isabella starts to worryingly play with her hair while gently rocking Biali back and forth on her chest.
"...damn heroes." Ralto snarls as the cursed ''Hero'' word is mentioned. He clenched his fists and looked out far into the horizon. The day his father died is still fresh in his mind and he has not forgiven the culprits for murdering him and getting away with it. He do not trust Terra, the Grand Heaven or even The Eleven Hells at all. The only one he can trust is himself and his family now.

Ralto then turns back toward Isabella and Biali who still lie resting on the bed. "This can''t be a coincidence." He then starts walking down the stairs with determined steps. It is going to be many long nights in the library and study.
Isabella lets out a long sigh. Their happy moment got cut short by the reports of heroes appearing again. Maybe it was a bad time to try for a baby with the appearance of heroes again. But they are a happy family now. She hopes Biali will forgive her for her selfishness when she grows up.
Biali is an unusually obedient baby for her age. She only cried when she was born, and the rest of the time she tried pointing at things she wanted. Only when she was ignored would she cry. Must be those supreme evil genes in her which gives her a cool head.
Only when Biali was nearly two years old did her consciousness completely form.

I am Be''ial''ale? Okay. Interface? What is that?
After this popped up in my head I felt very sleepy and I fell asleep again.
What is the me? My sense of self? These questions did I keep thinking of but could never find an answer. One moment the me was not here, but now the me is here. Thinking of this makes me feel tired...
Happy being myself I slept for a very long time until who I think is mama woke me up.
"Good morning Biali! It''s time to rise and shine~" Says the one who I think is mama. I open my eyes and see the most beautiful person I have ever seen. She got long dark hair and red eyes.
"Mama!" I cry out in joy at seeing mama. She then cover her mouth and tears falls out of her eyes. Then she snuggles me and around me I get covered by two black things, which extended from her back.
"Biali said her first word, and it was mama... I am so happy now!" The warmth from mama comforts me greatly. I feel very joyful and hug her with my small arms. I wish we could do this forever. Then she carried me away from where I had slept. "I need to show my darling this!"The author''s narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
As she carried me in her arms we passed by several openings in the wall. It was very bright on the other side. I then asked mama: "Mama, this is?" And I pointed at the bright openings. Mama then slowed down and pointed too and started to talk: "They are windows, little Biali."
Windows? What more will I discover!? Then I feel an ache in my head again.

Those strange words are here again... Mama noticed me hurting so she patted my head. It felt nice. After a long while we got into a bigger space. At the far end of it sat a man who I think is papa. He is holding something in his hand and moves it around wildly.
"Darling! Darling! Little Biali can talk!" My mama cries out in joy as she hands me over to papa. Papa then says: "Wonderful! Our daughter is growing so fast!" Mama, papa and me then hug. Even better than with just mama.
This happy warmth make me feel sleepy...
Fast forward to when Biali is five years old.
I am now changing clothes in the castles dressing room. With the help of the maids have we spent several minutes trying to find a dress that fits me. It has not been bearing any fruits yet...
"Ugh, this dress is too small mom!" I cry out in anger as the dress gets stuck on my small curved horns sticking out of my head. Isabella, which is my mother sits in a chair nearby calmly reading a book.
"Darling, show some manners. Try another dress for Biali, my dear maids." Mother courteously asked the maids in the room to assist me. How can she be so calm when its an emergency?
We then spend many more minutes until finally finding a dress that won''t get stuck in my black beautiful horns. You may wonder why I am trying to change a dress that fits? It is because today we are having a tea party! My mom invited over kids from all over the kingdom, so I am very excited to make some friends! Well, I have friends but they are adults like mommy.
After I put on my dress which is black colored with red trims, and is extremely frilly. I stand in front of the mirror in the dressing room. In there I see my curly long blonde hair which wraps around my black curved horns. My tanned skin is still in good condition despite spending so many hours outside, and my yellow dragon like eyes are still as pretty as ever without any makeup.
My tail which looks like the one mommy got is in good shape as well. I made sure to clean it thoroughly this morning. It shines in the morning sun which fall through the windows here. Mommy and daddy, said I mostly look my daddy. The biggest thing I got from mom was the tail and her beauty. All this talk of blood lines and heritage still confuses me.
No matter! Sweets and tea is going to be devoured by me today! And there is nothing that can stop me!
Chapter 7: Tea party
In the walled garden in the castle when the sun is at its highest, sit six children enjoying the fresh air outdoors. It is lunch time but now is only one thing on the mind of everyone; Sweets. Baked goods like cake, sweet rolls and cookies are brought out by the maids at the happy cheering of the children. The most happy is Biali who has spent this morning being tormented by her mother in order to make her look presentable.
"Cake and tea, yay!" I cry out in joy, and the other children joins me in at my cheering! Not soon after come maids with pitchers full of hot tea, cold milk and lemonade. This day is going to be the best one ever! The thought of eating so many sweets at once just make me feel giddy.
I clear my throat in order to do my duty as the tea party host. Etiquette which I painstakingly learned from my mother and teacher. "Welcome everyone, my name is Be''ial''ale but you can call me Biali. This is my first tea party in the grand castle of Raal''tara''goto. I hope as the host, and potential friend that no sweets will be left uneaten. Are you with me?"
After my grand welcoming speech the other kids started talking amongst each other. I feel they will all agree and become brothers in arms together with me. Then they all start nodding and raise their fists up into the sky.
"For the glory of house Biali!" They all make a glorious war cry worthy of a being like myself! Then I talk again: "With that, the tea party has officially started!" Then I grab a plate with chocolate cake, and ask the maids to pour me a cup of tea. The feast has begun!
After I had come halfway through my cake, a girl which looked like mom, but in my size started talking to me. "This tea party is lovely. Back at home I only get cake on special occasions." She then greedily takes a big bite out of her strawberry cake slice and downs it with a sip of tea.
"I know right! Daddy is rich, so I can have cake whenever I want." I happily say as I continue devouring my slice of cake. I bet she is jealous over that I can eat cake every day if I want to.
"Mhmm, my daddy which is governing the region outside of your daddies county is rich too! But not as rich as your daddy then if you can eat cake every day..." She says before stuffing her face with even more cake.
"By the way, what is your name?" I ask the mini-mommy look-a-like girl. She then stops her hand mid air with a spoon full of cake and looks at me with a smile into my eyes.
"My name is Raedora of house Chaoswall." She then quickly swoops in the spoonful of cake into her mouth and she has a look of pure bliss on her. I could almost swear I saw a pink aura around her for a split second.
"What do you like to do at home?"
"At home? Play with my pet Cerberus, tease the boy servants, practice magic with mommy and bake cookies."
"Oh, sounds interesting. Teasing boy servants? Why?" I ask her while giving her while looking confused but curious. She then giggles and rolls her eyes.
"Mother said I should get used to teasing boys, even at my age. She said I would do a lot of teasing when I grow up. I do not know what she meant with that though..." She looks up into the sky while being deep in thought, but then quickly starts attacking her cake slice again which is nearly all eaten up now.
"How are boys? I never had the chance to meet one."
"They get so easily red in their faces when you look at them. And for some reason they stutter when they talk with me."This narrative has been purloined without the author''s approval. Report any appearances on Amazon.
"Boys sure sound interesting. I will try to meet one as soon as possible then!"
We then giggled and continued enjoying ourselves at my tea party. After I took my second helping another girl started talking with me. She looked like a cross between a human and dragon. She stand upright and her head is mostly human, but the rest of her body is covered in scales except for her bust and crotch. She got a very funny looking dress which barely covers her at all.
"Heya Biali! Ya got a very cool party going on here." The draconian girl says to me as she fills a plate full of chocolate chip cookies. Her manners are visibly lacking when she devours the cookies one by one while leaving crumbs on her dress.
"Oh hi miss, what is your name?" I ask this curious looking girl as I start eating this chocolate cake which tastes incredibly delicious.
"My name is Ruby Hellfire, my da'' and ma'' were never good with names."
"Ruby, what do your dad do?"
"Da'' works for your dad here. Say he is a guardian or somethin''."
"That dragon with lots of scars is your dad?" Ruby nods and drinks her cup of tea in one go. The nearby maid then quickly refills it.
"Who is your mom then?"
"My ma'' works for ya'' dad too! She is right now building up some fancy lookin'' towers in the county. Says they will turn the entire castle into a turtle shell!" Ruby then giggles at the mental image of the entire castle turning into a turtle and walking away.
"Wooow, your parents are awesome!" I say with great joy. Compared to my parents hers sound super cool! My dad is just a king which is boring and my mother just sit in the castle all day long. It is not like they do anything that I can see.
"Hah, I know right!" Ruby puffs up her chest in a display of pride.
"So Ruby. What do you like to do?"
"I like to train my flyin'', cook meat with my fire breath, build tree houses in which I later try to knock down as fast as possible, and buy pretty jewelry."
"Jewelry?"
"I like shiny things." Says Ruby as she shows off her golden bracelets on her arms and legs. They glitter in the sun and you can see red colored gems in them clearly. Is she a magpie or what?
"Umm, they are pretty, Ruby."
"Thanks! I used most of my allowance to buy em''."
"Well, see you later. I will need to attend my other guests too." I bow down my head and scan the party for other guests willing to chat with me. Everyone except for Ruby seem to be talking with each other. I let out a sigh and continue eating my cake.
As soon as I resign myself to just eating sweets myself for the rest of the party, a girl in a purple robe comes up beside me. She got skin as dark as the night and silver hair which her long ears poke through. She tilts her head before she starts talking to me.
"Miss Biali, a pleasure to meet you." The girl says as she politely bow to me.
"My pleasure, miss..."
"Miss Tenebria of house Lunarstorm at your service." Darn, she is very polite and well learned in etiquette at our age.
"So, umm, Tenebria, what do you like to do?"
"I like to study magic, history, biology, law, ..." Tenebria then droned on for minutes about all things she liked to study. I nearly fell asleep and had to fight to keep myself awake. Then she concluded with: "...and that is why I study hard. I will do my best to serve my kingdom in the future."
I snapped out of my daze and quickly replied to her in order to appear well behaved. "That is very great of you Tenebria! Giving your all to serve our great kingdom. I respect that self sacrifice greatly."
Tenebria then nods and take a sip of her now lukewarm tea. "I intend to after all serve my kingdom forever. One day you will be my lord." I felt a shock when she said that I would be her lord. That would mean, that... My dad would... No... I then felt a bit sad at that thought. No, my dad won''t be overthrown by anyone.

There are those words in my mind again. Last time I felt those was when I was a small child. Tenebria then noticed how I flinched, and put down her cup of tea onto the table. And she looks into my eyes with a dead serious look.
"Biali, I felt your distress." Tenebria then walks up to me and I can feel her breath. Then she puts her hands under my cheeks and pulls me closer.
"This feeling. It is familiar to the aura of heroes I read in a book." She then releases me out of her grip and puts her hands on her hips.
"Think of wanting to know everything about yourself now."
I then think of the meaning of Status.
Chapter 8: Uninvited party guests
Suddenly I feel a head splitting ache in my head, Tenebria is there to hold myself standing while the pain make my legs feel numb. The pain is unbearable but then it quickly dissipates and instead I feel an enlightening surge inside myself.

As I sit up in my bed and look around the room I can see Ruby guarding the door, and next to my bed sits Tenebria on a stool, and it looks like she has cried a lot lately. In the corner of the room lies Raedora on the couch. She plays with a ring in her hands.
"Ughhh..." I mutter as I try to make sense of the situation. One second we had the tea party of our lives and now the mood is gloomy instead. Everyone then averts their attention to me and Tenebria hugs me and starts apologizing.Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.

Go bite a dragon you dumb box! Tenebria has stopped crying and seem to have fallen asleep. I guess it is best now to ask what the heck is going on.
"Raedora... What happened?" I ask her because I got no clue what is going on. She then sighs and points at the broken window next to me. Through the shattered remains can I watch a battle going on in the distance beyond the castle bridge.
"Your mommy told me that we got uninvited guests. They wanted to join our tea party too after you decided to faint." Raedora sarcastically smiles as she then clicks her tongue, and go back to playing with her ring. She looks visibly annoyed at this disruption. Clearly she got robbed of precious time in which she could had been eating cake. Ruby then looks at me with fire in her eyes.
"I wish I was out there with my da'' fightin'' them smelly heroes!" Said Ruby as she pouted and impatiently tapped her left foot. I do not think she, even a mighty dragon like herself would do much to help.
"H- Heroes!?" I cry out in utter shock. I thought they only was the stuff of legends which my daddy told me about. Damn, my very first tea party is now becoming even worse than before I fainted!
I then hear a loud explosion and the shattering of stone nearby. Shortly afterward I hear my mother scream and another explosion is set off. Afterwards I hear the sound of a man screaming bloody murder as he flies back towards the bridge he came from.
"That is what you get for peeping!" Yells my mother angrily toward the offender which now crashes into his allies back onto the battlefield beyond the castle bridge. She then scoffs and becomes quiet again.
"Heroes. Right..." I quietly talk to myself coldly and then let out long sigh. They ruined my tea party. Great! Thank you very much! I truly did not look forward to having it canceled! I am now very angry!
"DAMN HEROES!" I yell in my room loudly which wakes up Tenebria and I get the attention of everyone again. I clench my fists and are now shaking with anger. Tenebria then looks up on me with her serious look back.
It was at this point I felt genuine hate for the first time in my life.
"Sorry for your ruined tea party. If I had the power, I would had been able to prevent this." Says Tenebria in her serious as usual tone. Come on girl, can''t you act our age for once outside of crying? I clearly will have to fix that side of her if she want to be my servant in the future!
"It is not like we could do anything anyway." I tell Tenebria as I look out at the battle going on in the distance. It looks now like the invading heroes are losing. It feels like she now stopped tensing up. Tenebria let out a sigh and sits next to me in my bed.
"You are right Biali..."
"I swear if those heroes come again, I will hunt them down when I get older." I say while barely being able to contain my anger. No words can properly explain how much I loathe them.

For once the stupid boxes agree with me on something. The heroes are now finally getting pushed back to the point in which they retreat. I can hear the victory cheers all the way over here from the kingdoms troops.
I smile and feel happy about the victory. I will need to become very powerful.
Chapter 9: Troubled upbringing
After the infamous Tea party raid, the attacks started to become a bi-monthly occurrence over at the supreme evils castle. And because of this the construction plans of the castle shield barrier system got accelerated and granted more funding by Ralto as a direct effect. Ruby''s father became even more battle scarred after each assault, and if he kept up like this he would have more scars than scales.
This also meant that I, Biali, herself. Will have my own plans accelerated as well. Starting school early that is. I would had been sent to an academy, but that is impossible now because of those damn heroes which keep assaulting our kingdom. At least my friends I managed to gain from the ruined tea party will visit and play with me when it is safe.
At least the teachers which my daddy brought over are nice. I got an elf which looks like Tenebria to teach me about magic, a devil of some sort to teach me how to swing weapons and a cat looking person to teach me all about writing, mathematics, history and such stuff. My daddy says he hired the best teachers for me. I really hope so, because I will need them in order to repay the heroes the favor in the future. Nobody crashes my parties and go unpunished!
There is no point in lamenting about the heroes again. It is better to put energy on improving myself instead. Their time will come anyway, and I will make sure of it! Now to present my foolproof long term plan.
* Learn all magic!
* Learn how to swing a club really well!
* Study hard!
Not a very complicated plan, but one I confidently feel I can pull off! As long as I keep to these three points I will grow stronger. Then I will show those stupid, dumb, icky, fat, ugly and... I lost my cool again. Still very angry about having my very first tea party crashed last week.
At least I made some friends!
The first friend is Raedora Chaoswall which is like my mom, but just smaller. She got a sweet tooth, and I can see her coming over often as long as I tempt her with cake. Maybe I can visit her and play with her pet dog? Also to see what boys are all about?
Second friend is Ruby Hellfire who got big wings and talks funny. While not as gluttonous on sweets like Raedora, she still love to eat cookies. I think she just loves the crunch. I will spend more time with her. Considering she lives in the castle compound it will be easy!
Third friend is Tenebria Lunarstorm, she is bit of an oddball. She is serious all the time and talks like the adults in the castle. While what she made me do caused me great pain, I do not hate her for it. She is just curious like me. I hope she visits me again, maybe we can do magic. She looks smart so she must be interested in it.
Friends are great. I can play with them and learn stuff while I''m at it. In the future I will take my friends with me and fight back this hero menace.
The next ten years I spent learning all I could about magic, fighting and more mundane school subjects from my teachers. My daddy thought I was unusually motivated, but he does not know how much of a hell these heroes have put me through.

For example while I am sleeping I sometimes get woken up by the sound of loud explosions in the distance. I think at first a disaster has struck, but when I use a spyglass to check it out I just find that a group of heroes are busy destroying one of the shield generators that Ruby‘―s mother made. This became over time a weekly occurrence and I have grown to become quite cranky as a result.
Another constant annoyance is when some heroes get the bright idea to attack the castle shield barrier directly. I do not get it how, but they can keep wailing at it for hours without getting tired. So during an entire day I keep hearing buzzing and scratching metal noises echoing throughout the castle grounds. It only stops after Ruby''s dad shoo them away. It is hard to get any schoolwork done with this noise ringing in your ears.
Also the main thing I hate about the heroes is that I can never leave the castle because of them. My dad insists it is too dangerous for me, but why can my friends come over to visit then!? I desire to explore the world. Being cooped up here make me feel claustrophobic. Maybe once I become an adult my daddy will allow me to go outside for the first time?
For what they all have done to me, I will make them suffer tenfold. Let us see how much they will like it when I create never ending obstructions in their lives! Imagine having to live in a place where there is a high pitched sound which you can''t get rid of no matter what you do. Death is too good for them, they will have to learn what true suffering is.
As I spent my time formulating these plans of revenge by my writing desk, I got informed by a maid that tomorrow we would have a tea party again. I put my quill into the inkwell and looked out the window in my room. The sky is now red through the stripes of thin clouds, which means dusk is approaching.
Outside over the roof which was littered with missing and broken roof shingles, I could see the castle guards and monsters doing their daily drill. Because of the constant attacks by heroes the sight of them is as common as the sky for me.
I let out a long sigh and go into deep thought about how life could be vastly different for me. For me this is normal now, but what if I could just had lived on a farm somewhere outside instead? Imagine! No fear of heroes and I can go outside how much I want. The thought of just waking up and taking water out from a well, and then making breakfast porridge with it makes me happy.
"If only life was different..." I talk to myself as I space out while looking out the window. Oh well, I should go to bed at a proper time so I am at least in a good mood tomorrow.

Chapter 10: Raid wipe
I stand in front of two hundred people in the throne room now. With my finger pointed at three culprits in particular. Not long after I had exclaimed my dislike about them I had walked in front of my mother and father.
This is horrible. Do heroes have a vendetta against tea parties!? I still remember vividly of my first tea party which they crashed after I fainted. Now they are ruining my mood too for tomorrow.
Wearing just my nightgown and bunny slippers while carrying my favorite plushie in my other arm this scene must be bizarre for all involved. A teenage girl with curved horns and a tail in front of the supreme evil lecturing them. Judging from the expressions of the invading heroes they are confused at my presence.
"...the developers never said anything about this Be''ial''ale... "
"...what is this cute character doing here?"
"...I do not mind getting more experience."
"...the hell?"
Quiet voices talking like this could be heard among the invading crowd as they tried making sense of my appearance here. Why am I not known by them? I then look at my father. He just grins and looks back at me before talking.
"We did this for your own good. If they did not know about you, then your life would be relatively carefree. Now is the cat out of the bag though..." Ralto then starts chanting a spell. His his eyes and hands now start emitting purple and black smoke. This makes the main three culprits react.
"Mystia cast the spell NOW!" Cries both the black armored and white armored men out as they raise their hands forward. "Charge men!"
What happened now? As soon as my father finished casting his spell I got enveloped in a bubble which emits purple and black smoke. When I look outside out of the bubble it as if I am looking through moving clear water. What I see outside are those two men I had pointed at earlier closing in on me.
My mother then just vanishes from her throne. Did she go invisible or warped away? Father had at the same time started chanting another spell. This time his whole body got enveloped in black smoke which was shaped like a horned skull.
When the two men are about to hit me, I covered my arm to shield myself. But the hits never came. Instead did the two men get repulsed as a loud zapping sound is heard.
"Gyah!"
"Urgh!"
Yelped the two men out in pain as they stumbled backward three steps. Their eyes are filled with hate towards me. What have I ever done to them!? Last time I checked YOU were the aggressors of this whole conflict.
This Mystia person now finished casting their spell. It was shaped like an enormous shining arrow. As it shoot forwards to me, it split into two smaller arrows. One headed still toward me and the other towards my father. The three of them now chuckled as if they expected something great to happen.Stolen story; please report.
The two hundred strong invasion force were now at spitting distance from me. During this whole time I has been too scared to move. Maybe I should move? Yes, I should! I turn around and start running towards father.
As I turned around the projectile now hit the bubble surrounding me, but it just made the bubble break. That was anti-climactic... And when it my father it fizzed out. This Mystia now just stood there paralyzed, something has not went according to plan I guess. The two men nearby me looked back at Mystia and they all look cheated.
When I finally got up next to my father he unleashed the spell. A wave of darkness as black as the night sky came forth from his palms. As it hit the invaders they started to become limp, one by one. And when they hit the floor, instead of just lying there dead they explode into motes of light. What the hell is going on?
I look up to my father and smile, but before I can feel safe this Mystia person has a look of pure hate on her face. She points both her palms towards us and quickly chants. The wave has not yet reached her yet, but she looks determined to have the last laugh.
"Daddy?" I look up to my father and nervously grip his coat. I have a bad feeling now...
Mystia now unleashed her spell right before she got hit by the wave of death. A pure white bolt of lightning hit me instantly before my father could do anything to prevent it. What felt like being torn apart from the inside and then being rebuilt hit me. I blacked out from the sheer amount of pain.

In another world, very familiar to our own...
The white sparsely furnished room is littered with cans of energy drinks and empty plastic bags. A smell of sweat mixed with dust is prevalent in it, and next by a computer sits a slightly overweight teenager furiously tapping away at his keyboard.
"Bullshit!" Yells the teenager as he slams his fist down next by the computer mouse. In his headset can he hear similar outbursts from his guild mates. He then rubs his hand towards his forehead and tries to think harder.
"We even had Divine protections which our guild painstakingly quested for! We should had been immune to instant death magic!" He then angrily yells in his headset.
"According to the forums and chat rooms, nobody has reported anything about this strange Be''ial''ale NPC." Says a female voice in his headset. He then clicks a forum link which someone in the chat had sent.
In the thread he can see screenshots of this new NPC as she pointed her finger towards them. Also he saw a special screenshot of someone who had managed to [Appraise] her. What he read made him feel puzzled. In specific, one title.
"Have you guys ever heard of the title [Nemesis of Heroes] before?" He asked his guild while racking his brains for answers. For a short while there was a quiet before someone spoke up again.
"Nope, never heard of it." Said an older sounding man.
"What do you guys think? This can''t be a coincidence. A new monster appears and suddenly our Divine protections stop working?" The female voice asks again.
"Closest theory we have to go on. Oh by the way, what did you do to that monster before you died?"
"I managed to give the monster a little parting gift." She then chuckles and the sound of a can being opened is heard.
After the main guild people stopped talking, the others started to talk wildly among each other. Raid wipes are nothing new to them, but something felt off about this raid. What should had been a walk in the park with their Divine protection turned into sour defeat. Regaining all lost levels and gold from death will set them back months.
The consensus was that they will retry the raid in three months time once their levels are back up again. At least with the little nemesis out of the picture they are sure they will succeed the next time.

My head is pounding incredibly hard, and my breathing is highly irregular. I feel that my heartbeat is incredibly fast, almost as if it will jump out of my ribcage at any moment. I lie on my back on some damp hard ground feeling like I am about to die. After a while I start coughing heavily and I feel a lot better as a result. Relatively that is.
"Uhhh..." I whine as lie down on the floor. I feel that my arms and legs are spread out, but my left arm is touching something soft... Is that my favorite plushie? "Eugh, where am I?" I talk to myself and open my eyes. But I can''t see anything.
Everything is pitch black. I can''t see anything except for those boxes that popped up in rapid succession... Wait!? I should not had survived that spell? I then raise my left hand and I feel something fall off my wrist, and I feel how every joint and muscle start aching in my body. Dang, I feel pretty beat up.Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site.
"A fathers love, huh?" I mutter to myself as I with great effort raise my back upwards to what feels like a wall. I then use my plushie as an improvised pillow in this darkness to support my aching back. It is still dark as ever. Maybe I should try using simple magic? Some lighting is better than none.
"[Candlelight]" I chant as I snap my fingers. After a second my hand is dimly lit up and I feel drained a tiny bit. My beautiful hand is covered with scratches and bruises... I think one of my nails is broken as well. I wonder how much magic I actually used for this?
|
Candlelight
School\Affinity: Generalist\None
Base Cost: 1
The most simple spell which all magicians learn. An excellent aid for studying magic at night. Requires excessive amounts of magic to be poured into it in order to light up more than just the area around your hand.
|
Well, look at that! These boxes are useful after all! Oh, maybe if I pour more magic into the light it will glow brighter? I heard it from my magic teacher in passing that skilled magicians learn this trick early in their career. You should not need a career in order to perform such a trick, right?
I put both my hands around the dim candlelight in front of me and then imagine myself massaging it. With each squeeze I feel myself drained a tiny bit more. But... It works! It now is bright enough to light up the immediate area, and what I can see is...
I am in a damp cave? Where and how deep!?
|
Query: Where am I?
Answer: Unknown.
Query: How deep down am I?
Answer: Unknown.
|
And here I was praising the boxes. Once again they prove themselves usel-
Well, not entirely useless. Not really helpful though. I am hurt, I am sleepy, I am hungry, I do not know where I am and I will definitely miss my tea party tomorrow. Damn heroes, it is always the heroes! Is this some kind of divine punishment that I am not aware of, or what?
"Damn it all!" I yell in frustration and hear how my voice echoes for a long time in this cave. Alright, calm down Biali. What should I do now? For god knows what, I can either be in a cave nearby my home or in The Eleven Hells themselves. I sigh and click my tongue and gaze out into the darkness passing through my island of light.
First things first, I need to sleep. I am bloody tired after what happened. I put my plushie now on the floor so I can lie comfortably on my back. Because of the calming ambiance of warm air being blown through the tunnel I quickly fell asleep.
After a long time I woke up feeling refreshed. I still feel sore but at least I feel like I can walk now. The Candlelight I had cast earlier was now burnt all out, so I repeated how I did it yesterday and got a new fresh candle to light up the path for me. Now I got another problem; I am hungry. My stomach''s rumbling reminded me of that very well when I woke up. But what is there even to eat in a cave like this? Can you even eat moss?
"What I wouldn''t do for a cup of tea..." I say as I yawn while stretching my sore limbs and back. I let out a high pitched noise of enjoyment from all the stretching. I should find something I can eat, I am starving!
At least I am not freezing here, considering I am just wearing my night gown, bunny slippers and underwear after I went to bed yesterday. Something working in my favor at least.
"Now where to go?" I talk to myself while hugging my plushie. We are going to become best friends, aren''t we? The smell from where the air blows in from is fresh, maybe if I follow it I will eventually find a way out?
"Screw it!" I shout and start following the direction from which the air breeze comes from. My first real adventure and I am ill prepared. All I got is what I wear and my plushie. Mystia will be the first one to face my wrath when I get out of here! I breathe in and then slowly breathe out. Calm yourself Biali, you are in no condition to fight heroes now. Yes, yes, I know. But I hate those heroes!
"Whatever... I am hungry." Feeling down I decided to just follow the warm and fresh air breeze that is hitting my face. While walking I occasionally resupplied my Candlelight with magic, and I felt I got a little better at it each time I did it.
I lost track of time completely as I walked through this long tunnel. My legs started to feel slightly worn out when I heard the sound of water dripping down from the ceiling, and drops of water hitting my head. Looks like my hair is going to become quite the mess in this cave... As I continued through this tunnel I noticed that it now started to slope upwards, and the sound of water gently flowing can be heard. Water is good, if anything I won''t feel hungry if I drink enough.
As I walked I stepped down my right foot and it suddenly made a splashing sound. I look down and I see a small brook which curves diagonally into a small hole in the wall left of me. Where there is water, there is life, right? And life is food! I took a small breather before I pushed on forwards.
It did not take long until I arrived into a large cavity which is lit up by blue and green mushrooms, and in the middle of it I can see a tree which is lit up by sunlight from enormous cracks in the ceiling. The brook which I has been following is connected to a shallow lake which surrounds the tree.
"It is... Beautiful..." I gape in awe at the scene in front of me. Then a box suddenly appears...
"D- DUNGEON!? What the heck!?" I cry out in disbelief. This just keeps getting worse! What I remember from my teachers, so are dungeons incredibly dangerous. Even dungeons which are classified as easy by guilds can kill newbie adventurers and mercenaries. And I which only has got the most basic fighting and magic training is not feeling confident about this at all... Come on Biali, do not start crying now! I slap myself in my face as soon as I just started to feel sad.
"Ouch." I look at the tree in the middle of the underground lake. "I wonder if it has food? Eating the mushrooms seems risky..." I noticed that I has started talking to myself a lot while stumbling around down here in the darkness. Must be because I feel lonely.
My stomach is now reminding me again about food, I get it. That tree is as good as any place to start searching at.
Chapter 12: Spirit of the oasis
I feel how my feet and toes sink into the mud in the shallow lake, as I traverse it while holding my dirty bunny slippers in my right hand. Each step scare away small shoals of dimly glowing cave fish that swim around in the lake. Even these gnats in the water start to look appetizing now...
"These fishies are not much to eat..." I complain as I am halfway through the lake. At this point my wet nightgown is starting to become dyed brown from all mud I kick up while wading. If my mom saw this she would be livid!
At the shore of the tree I see patches of grass exactly in the shapes that the sun shine through the cracks in the cave ceiling. Makes it look like the muddy ground is striped like a tiger. The tree which I am now closer to is truly huge! It looks like it is missing a lot of branches though, and the remaining ones are missing leaves at some spots. How did it ever get enough sun to grow here?
With a final push I crash into a patch of grass headfirst in front of me. I feel how my forehead is full of sweat, and my legs are now killing me with all the aching. Must had cut down on my exercise way too much after I quit my fighting lessons...
"Uhhh..." I whine as my head is planted firmly into the grass. This make me think of the time I went outside in the castle with my normal schoolwork teacher. We sat in the grass in the courtyard and he tried to teach me about grasses and roots. I was not too into it but it was enjoyable to spend time outside in the summer sun. I think he said that you can eat some roots, and he even gave me one to to try eating! Tasted like liquorice that time.

Dungeon nature oasis discovered.
|
Nature oasis? Wonder what the box mean with that? I should take a nap before I move any further. Moving across mud in water is very tiring! Before I fell asleep I thought I heard the sound of a distant high pitched bell. Must had been my imagination.
|
Health: 22/22 (32)
Further healing require: Nutrition and\or treating of wounds.
|
I wake up and this box showing my healthiness shows up... How long has I been asleep for? Also I can''t heal any more without... Nutrition? Sounds like a tasty word. Then I hear my tummy making an incredibly loud growling noise, and I start hurting. Food. FOOD!
Then I hear the sound of tingling bells again in the distance. What is that? Then with effort I stand up and try listening for the curious sound. There it came again! Sounds like it came from behind the tree. I am hungry, but curious at the same time. I can''t help checking it out.
As I sneak towards the back of the tree I put my plushie in front of me. Fluff shield, can''t be too safe, you know. When I am about to turn around to find out what the noise maker is, I hear the sound again!
What I find on the other side is something beautiful... A dimly glowing green and brown dressed little girl with leafy green wings on her back. Her braided hair is brown colored which go all the way down her shoulders, and she got a daisy flower on one side in it. She looks back at me with equal amounts of curiosity as me. Who is she?
"Umm, hello?" I gently say and wave at the girl? The little girl continue to look at me as if she is judging me. She then puts a finger under her chin and then moves her head around as she looks at me from my toes to my horns.
Then she leaps up into the air from behind the tree and her wings start fluttering, making her float gracefully in the air. How can those tiny wings keep her up in the air!? She then puts her arms across her chest and glide towards me.Love this story? Find the genuine version on the author''s preferred platform and support their work!
"First time I see your kind down here." The girl says in a cute voice and stops two arm lengths away from me.
"F- First time? Kind?" I stammer out to her. Did not expect her to be this talkative! She then pouts and put a knuckle under her chin.
"Your spirit is full of great evil and a tinge of demonic influence."
"Well... I... Don''t know..."
"It is okay. Your demon kind has not caused me trouble. Yet." She sighs and puts her arms on her hips and glide around me instead.
"Demon kind?"
"You truly sound clueless. How did you even survive down here?"
"I did not come down here... On my own." She then suddenly appears in front of me upside down.
"How did you come down here then? You do not look like one of those pesky adventurers." The cheeky girl then points at my dirty nightgown and giggles.
"I got separated from my daddy by a flash of white lightning." She then flips herself so she is upright again and starts looking up into the ceiling cracks. "Then the next thing I knew I was down here."
"I see..." She then snaps down her head and look directly into my eyes. "Two cycles ago I felt a disturbance in the aura here. Must had been you then." With a great sigh she then asks me: "What is your name, demon?"
"Be''ial''ale, but you can call me Biali." As I answer her, my stomach is now rumbling again. The girl then looks with concern at me and flies toward the tree. A few seconds later she comes back with an odd looking fruit.
"You are starving." She says as she chucks the fruit at me. "My name is Arbri the Vengeful." The girl then smiles and flies back to me. "I got that name after I turned two parties of adventurers into mud after they desecrated my tree." Arbri looks very proud of her devious sounding name.
"Adventurers? Are they the same as heroes?" I ask Arbri as I start eating the fruit she gave to me. It tastes sweet and has a crunchy texture. Arbri then make a scornful look in her face and her fists start shaking.
"You could say so... Yes." Arbri then looks at me. "You see my tree? It has not always looked like this. A thousand cycles ago it used to be beautiful. Full of branches with leaves and fruits in all manner of colors!"
She then stop shaking her fists and a look of melancholy is upon her face. "Then the swarm of adventurers, or heroes as you call them arrived." The little girl then lands next to her tree and sits down while looking at me. "A lot of them tried taking my fruits and branches, but no matter how many I sent into their muddy graves, they never stopped coming." I can relate to her greatly with this.
"In the end my tree is a mockery of its former glory after being stripped of its branches, and robbed of its fruits. And for what!?" Arbri then starts sobbing. "What have I done to deserve this?" I finished eating my fruit and saw how Arbri became quiet. She then took off into the air again.
"I got a history myself with heroes..." I say and Arbri looks at me with anticipation. She then flies toward me and with great interest listen to my story about them. Arbri just kept nodding and her look of melancholy turned into anger over time. After what felt like ten minutes I was finished with my story.
"We are sisters of the same cause then." Says Arbri as she flies back to her tree with a smile on her face. She then sits on one of the remaining branches of her tree and starts humming.

"Thanks for the fruit, by the way." I say as I wave at Arbri. She just waves back and continue her humming. At least I am not feeling as hungry as before, and I got someone to talk to.
I wonder if I can get her to become my ally later, in order to push back the hero menace? She definitely hate them as much as I do! For now, I will need to find a lot more food. I will feel bad if I mooch off Arbri. That fruit though, I felt good just by eating it.
I think I now get why the heroes were after her tree. Delicious fruit which heals you. Arbri is too good, for her own good. I wonder why me, and my family get attacked back home all the time though? It is not like what we have is something you can''t get elsewhere. Also what is my mommy and daddy up to? They must be worried sick about me!
Alright! I will try to see what I can do with the spells I learned during my studies. The [Lesser animate object] could be useful! I wonder if it works on my plushie? So far I only tried using it on lumps of clay and an abacus. Out of the clay did it mold itself into a tiny human which walked around, and the abacus went crazy with all the balls in it going in all directions until breaking apart!
You plushie, my faithful companion, are going to do great things together with me!
Chapter 13: Survival of the fittest in the dark
"Not like this..."
"I am sure you did it like this."
A loud explosion is heard, and mud is blown up high into the air with some even splattering the ceiling.
"Oops."
"[Lesser animate object] Ah, there we go!"

"Arise my minion!" I say in a highly dramatic voice as my plushie now takes its first step into the realm of the living! My plushie clumsily climbs up from the floor and it takes a few seconds to balance itself before looking at me. Purple smoke is constantly emitted from where its eyes should be. My cute bunny plushie now stumble toward me and tilts its head as if waiting for me to do something. I scratch the back of my neck and looks at Arbri.
Arbri has been watching the whole time and laughed at my failed attempts. Seems like one gets easily amused if they has been stuck down here for a very long time. Anyway, with my plushie minion I got both of my hands free when I look for food! I should give my dumb but cute minion a name...
"Hmm..." I walk around in small circle as I try to think up something good. After a while I stop and look at my plushie. Carrot? Sounds like a fitting name for my plushie which looks like a bunny. I smile and look at Carrot now.
"Minion, your name is now Carrot!" I point as I say in a commanding tone to Carrot. Carrot simply nodded its head and stands still. I wish Carrot has a little more personality. Oh well, can''t expect much from a novice level spell.
Now for the next thing on the agenda: food. Lots of food. I start tapping my foot and look at Arbri which now sits by the trunk of her tree. She is staring into the cracks in the ceiling above her tree, and streaks of sun is stroking her face. Arbri looks like a striped tiger now in her face.
"Arbri, what do you know about food?" Arbri then looks at me and tilts her head.
"Food?"
"Yes, food!"
"I only require the aura, water from the lake and the little sun that come through the cracks in the ceiling to live."
"That is not helpful at all!" She then looks annoyed and sighs.
"Occasionally a stray monster cross the lake and try to eat my fruits. But I kill them and then bury them into the mud. My tree then eats them until just bones remain." Not exactly the answer I am looking for Arbri.
"Arbri."
"I get it, I get it. You want to know about food that you can eat? Try murdering the local fauna by the lake." Arbri then sighs and stares into the ceiling cracks again and then makes a shooing motion with her hand.
I has never been into a fight before. So what Arbri is suggesting is completely out of my comfort zone! Maybe if Carrot helps me, I can take down a small critter and roast them with [Lesser dark bolt]. Aww, I feel anxious now... Come on Biali, it is a life or death situation! If I can''t even do this, I will never be able to defeat the heroes. So calm down now...

One last thing before I head out... I look at a branch which lies next to Arbri''s tree. The length of the branch is just a little bit more than my arm. Should make a better weapon than my puny fists. I better ask Arbri before I grab it.
"Umm, Arbri." Arbri sighs as I talk with her again.
"What is it now Biali?"Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site.
"Can I take that branch next to you?" I then point at the branch just lying on the grass. Arbri then just shrugs.
"Go ahead, it is dead anyway." She then returns yet again to whatever she was doing. I then pick up the branch which is unusually heavy for its size. But with my little club training I quickly find where the best place is to grab it by. Improvised weapon acquired!
|
Chromatic wood branch
Weapon Class: Club (Improvised)
Damage: 8 (4 from Base + 4 from Material)
A dried out branch from a chromatic tree. Still contains traces of crystallized mana in it.

Woah! That is one helluva of a branch! Why is it so special? It does as much damage as the wooden mace I got to try swinging during my training! Maybe if I keep it and give it to someone who is a skilled carpenter, it can be turned into a proper weapon? Will think more about that once I get out of this dungeon. But now I need to find a poor monster to kill and then eat.
Arbri mentioned that the monsters come by the lake. Maybe I can sneak up one while it is drinking? Now I need to traverse the muddy lake again. I do not look forward to doing it again, but I got little choice.
My now soaked nightgown lies dirtied on the muddy floor next to the lake as I took it off after getting back on land again. I figure I would try drying it up with my dark flame, because then it would be easier to at least shake off all the mud. Carrot, my plushie just stared at me while I undressed myself.

A frilly black nightgown with red trims fit for an aristocrat. It is modest and have a small pocket on its right hip.

It has seen better days. No time to waste!
"[Lesser dark bolt]" I chant and snap my fingers while trying to hold back the magic I spend on it. Within a moment a flame the size of my thumb shoots toward my nightgown. Look, I am getting the hang of magic again! My life as a princess truly made me soft.
As the dark flaming bolt hits the nightgown a smell of steam, cotton and dried mud hits my nostrils. It makes a sizzling sounds before the flame fully engulfs the whole nightgown and disappears as quickly. What I see afterward is a tiny burn mark on the nightgown and steam rising from it.
"Success..?" I meekly ask as I look at Carrot which only tilts its head. Better than nothing, now to hunt something to eat. I put my still steaming nightgown back on and then start skulking around the boulders surrounding the lake.
After what felt like an hour I finally found some funny looking monster drinking from the lake. It leaned forward on its four legs with its head calmly lapping water into its mouth. Its naked tail simply rested in a tangled mess behind it. It looks like a naked rat without any fur! What the heck even is it?

The heck is the box going on about now? I just asked what it was! At least the boxes do not talk back or try to be funny. Anyway, I now have to somehow turn this poor fellow into food. My anxiety is now through the roof. First real battle and the first life I has to end, just calm down...
After I finally calmed down the rodent looking creature looked up and started sniffing the air. Then it stood up on its hind legs and looked around. It looks like it has not spotted me yet...

Well, that is convenient. Shortly after the rodent starts calmly walking towards my direction. Now is the time to act! I order Carrot to hide behind the boulder next to me so it can punch the rat in the face as it passes by. Meanwhile I try to animate some of the mud along the rats path so it forms a trap. Not perfect, but should at least distract it.
As the rat gets closer and closer I feel how my heart starts beating faster and faster. My breathing feels heavier and it feels like time is almost at a standstill. But then I hear the sound of the rat crying out in rage, as the mud it steps on make it sink under the ground enough to cover all of its legs up to its knees. Carrot interpreted this as it was time to strike, and dashed to the rat and clumsily punched the rat on the nose.
I let out a long breath and peeked out of my hiding place and saw how a furious rat tried to bite at Carrot. But Carrot is too fast and was outside the biting range all the time, while doing seemingly no damage at all toward the rat. Well, maybe the rats pride got hurt by being slapped by a plushie.
"Now or never Biali." I say to myself and let out a long sigh before steeling my resolve. I bite my lip hard. Remember, it is either you Biali, or the rat. Law of the jungle, do you remember that saying? If it is not me who will eat the rat, then the rat will eat me! I slap myself before facing the rat which now has got one leg out of the mud trap.
"YAAAH!" I cry out as I finally resolve myself to end this rats life. With a leap while holding my wood branch over my head I swing down towards the rat.

Then I smash in its head again.

With a sickening crunch the head splits open on the rat and exposes its now destroyed brain. I drop my bloodied wooden branch and fall backwards in a daze. Carrot has already anticipated it and caught my back so I sit down instead.
I look at my now blood covered hands and watch as my tears fall down on them.
"...I did it..." I mutter as I try to comprehend the course of events. After what felt like an eternity I feel a light tap on my shoulder and the sound of a bell is heard. I look back and I can see a worried looking Arbri with her arms crossed.
"You are not a warrior. I can see that much." Arbri says and flies in front of me. She then puts her small hands under my cheeks. "But if you want to survive down here, you will need to get used to it."
I then start crying loudly while Arbri comforts me.

I am truly weak. Aren''t I? Arbri is right. How naive of me thinking that I will be able to fulfill my dreams without having to do dirty work myself. If I can''t even kill a monster that would not hesitate to kill me, then there is no way in The Eleven Hells that my dreams will ever become true...
The feeling of killing for the first time overwhelmed me. It was either me or the rat, and we both want one thing: Food. This time it was me who won and did not become food.
This make me wonder how hunters, adventurers and soldiers deal with being the bringers of death? How do they reason so their hearts are not weighed down by each kill? How do they live their lives without thinking about it?
Arbri is correct yet again, I will have to kill more. I do not want to do it, but I got little choice if I ever want to get out of here. This whole dungeon must be crawling with monsters wanting to eat me.
I just want to get home! Damn that Mystia! I clench my fists and yell at the top of my lungs in frustration before putting my head between my legs while covering it with my bloodied arms. Arbri just calmly sits next to me with Carrot on her side.

I just ignore those boxes, I am too tired and hungry to read them. Speaking of which, I might as well honor the dead rat by eating it. It is me who caused its early descent into the grave after all. After a while I then look up again from my little "cocoon" and look at the corpse of the rat.
"Food it is." I say in a tired voice, and then sigh as I walk over to the half buried rat. Now how can I even start eating it? I do not even have a knife so I can''t cut loose anything. Never mind that, I am so hungry now that I am not picky about table manners. The fruit which Arbri gave me to eat earlier, can I no longer feel in my tummy.
Extreme situations require extreme solutions. I think as I chant up a [Lesser dark bolt] and then fling at the corpse which then become engulfed in dark fire. Then with the help of a somewhat sharp rock I splinter off a skewer from my wooden branch.
The smell of cooked and charred meat is now prominent, and it makes the hunger pangs feel even worse. Like a hungry animal I start drooling at the scent. After a while the dark fire wore off and the cracked skin of the rat is now charred, and steam can be seen rising out of it.
With little hesitation I dig in my skewer on the still hot skin on the leg which the rat had managed to get out. I used all my strength to pull out the skewer with its surrounding meat. A disgusting tearing sound was heard, but I now have a skewer with meat on it. A little of it looks uncooked but at this point I do not care.
I take a bite out of the rat meat skewer and swallows the meat down with relatively easy effort. It tastes disgusting but its food.
It took quite a while for me to eat until I felt full, and by then the dead rat looked like as if someone has punched holes all over it at random. This feeling of being full made me feel disgusted, but it''s better than the alternative of starving. My face, neck and arms were now full of meat juices and blood. It does not matter, I can clean off myself in the lake.
"What now?" I ask myself as I stand up after my feeding frenzy. I then look at my still bloodied wooden branch while throwing away the skewer in my hand. "I need to become stronger." I say before picking it up and walking off to the lake.
I thoroughly cleaned up myself as much as I could in the lake. Then I head off looking for more monsters. If I ever want to get out of here alive, I need to stop feeling squeamish every time I encounter a monster. The thought of this made me hit the ground with my branch in frustration several times during my search.
Eventually I found more of those rats. I see two of them by the lakeside. One of them are drinking, and the other one looks like it is on the outlook for danger. Compared to my first fight I feel a little less anxiety, but I still just want to leave this place and hide in a corner. But I must become strong. I breathe in and out slowly in order to try calming myself.
The rats now switch positions and I need to find a way to take them down before they leave. I now see Carrot coming into my view beside me. My ever faithful servant.
I figure if I set the guarding rat on fire it will be too busy being worried about that so I can then smash the drinking rat into pieces. Not a really clever plan but it will do. I then take a look at Carrot again and they just tilt their head to the side. I then grit my teeth. It is for your own good Biali! Remember that.
When the guarding rat looks away I then quickly chant and cast a [Lesser dark bolt] at it. It screams bloody murder when the flames engulf it! The noises make me feel sick.

I drop my bloodied wooden branch down and a feeling emptiness showers all over me. My hands are now bloodied yet again, but this time I got my own blood mixed in as well. I squeeze both my hands hard and look at them now. A mixture of rage, sadness and determination fills me as tears start falling down my face.
"No... No. No, I won''t let you break me Mystia!" I yell and punch the muddy floor with both of my fists.
"I will become much stronger than you! Just you watch!" I claw at the mud and grabs two handfuls.
"If you thought I will die here, you are wrong! VERY WRONG!" I stand up and throw the clumps of mud with determination toward the lake. The clumps splash before sinking down. Not mere hate anymore. I then start to laugh.
"You will see!" My voice echoes throughout the oasis now. But I do not care because I am now making a declaration of my will.
"Even if I has to kill every single monster here I will survive and then come after you! If you thought this will break the princess, then fine! I won''t be a little princess anymore, but I will become your doom instead!
You clearly do not know who you made as an enemy the day you raided my daddies castle!" I hear how my own voice becoming more and more distorted as all of my emotions are poured into my speech.
I look around myself and I can see how the ground which I touched is now blackened as if burnt. A feeling of serenity and warmth now fills my mind. A feeling of purpose. A much greater feeling than depression and hopelessness.
I stand up again while picking up my wooden branch which now is permanently tinted red from blood. Instead of feeling sorry for myself I instead make a grin. Time to stop moping Biali and get to work!
My arm now starts hurting so I clean off all the blood in the lake, and rips off the sleeve of the left arm of my nightgown in order to bandage it. Good thing I saw how the nurses did it back home after I hurt my leg while playing one day.

Chapter 15: Dungeon delving
I am now traveling together with Carrot after I bid farewell to Arbri. She looked a bit sad about losing her chatting partner, but I assured her that we will meet again in the future. Currently we are walking along a tunnel which ramps upward, and it has small zigzagging brooks of water we has to cross. I also made sure to order Carrot to drag along one of the rats I killed earlier. It is my food after all, even if it is disgusting to eat.
Ever since I killed those rats and made my declaration of will I has felt different. As if a part of myself just withered away and nothing grew back to replace it. Is that good or bad?
Adventure, I always wanted to go on one when I was just a child. I got what I wished for and now I start to regret it. Stop moping Biali! If you keep brooding all the time you will go mad! Where did that childlike humor go? Did it die when you arrived here?
"Shut up naive me!" I say to myself as we walk up the tunnel. Do not think you will get rid of yourself that easily. Come on, try thinking of something funny!
"Will you go away if I do?" I answer thinking I has become mad. You are not mad Biali. Think of this as your way of keeping yourself happy. Me is you, and you is me. Cheer up girl! You are doing very well in overcoming your limits! Oh, do you remember that time that Ruby put smoke powder in Tenebrias spell book? Wasn''t that funny when she opened it and her face got completely covered in white smoke? She got so mad at Ruby that she started chasing her!
I bring up a little smile while still pondering over whether I has gone mad, or this is just a way for me to cope with with the stress. It speaks truth though. If I just keep having negative thoughts I will go truly mad then.
Maybe I should start cracking jokes to improve my mood?
After a while we eventually arrive to a larger cavity than before. The ceiling slopes sharply upwards only to reveal a man sized hole far away at the top. From the hole can a rope with a bucket be seen dangling halfway up. On the opposite side of the room is a hole with a metal gate. From the sides of the room are tiny waterfalls going down into a small body of water in the center of the room which also connects with the brook going down the ramp.
|
Dungeon plaza discovered.
|
Signs of civilization I guess. Could be either good or bad for me. Ah, civilization, how I miss a good cup of tea...
Strangely the cavity seems to be completely absent of monsters despite being well lit. Maybe they are behind that gate? Does not sound impossible to me!
But then the question is; Is it to keep the monsters in, or adventurers out? I guess I will find my answers once I enter. Without wasting any more time I start walking toward the closed gate. I pass man made bridges along the way and I can even see what looks like tables being placed in one location. But one thing is off with one table.
The table is collapsed and a dried out corpse with a knife embedded in its chest lies on it. One of the hands are still clutching the knife as the rest of the limbs are spread out. The scene shocks me a bit, but after the rats this feels like nothing.
"What happened here?" I mutter to myself as I step toward the corpse of a dead man. Except for the knife stuck to him and the clothes it looks like he was picked clean by whoever came here before. What a shame, I really could had used his stuff. But a knife is a knife after all!
I pull out the knife with relatively little effort and the corpse then starts collapsing. The knife is in a relatively good condition despite being stuck for so long. One mans trash is another mans treasure, right?

Steel hunting knife
Health: 93%
Weapon Class: Daggers
Damage: 12 (8 from Base + 4 from Material)
A common steel hunting knife used for skinning and dismantling of monster corpses. This knife is mass produced and bear no markings of its creator.

While it has better raw damage than my wooden branch, I has no idea of how to fight with knives! For now I will just use it as a tool. I look at the dead rat which Carrot has been dragging all this time. Maybe I finally can eat rats without feeling like I want to vomit now.
I scavenge the belt off the dead man too, but its not like he will need it anyway! Tearing off cloth from the man and then tying it around my knife and belt I can now sheath it when I am not using it. A stopgap solution, but it will do until I find a bag or something.
"Thanks for the help." I say to the dead man before I continue towards the gate.Find this and other great novels on the author''s preferred platform. Support original creators!
Finding the knife clearly put me in a better mood. Not being hungry anymore helps my mood heavily too. Now if I got some proper clothes too... My nightgown is clearly starting to feel worn down now. I guess you can''t have everything in life, if anything this dungeon has taught me.
As I arrive at the gate I find a lever next to it. I assume if I pull it, then the gate will open. I suspect I has to either pass through this gate or somehow get up to through where the bucket hangs to get out. For now I can only reach the lever so without waiting any further I pull it down by using my entire body as weight.
A metallic clicking sound is heard and then the sound of chains and metal cogs is heard behind the stone walls. After ten seconds the gate is open and the clicking sound is heard again as the lever revert backs to its original position. No time to waste as I walk through, the faster I am out of this dungeon, the better!
Inside the gate is a room made out of stone bricks. One the sides are there two hallways which shortly change directions. The entire stone clad room and hallways are strangely lit up without any obvious light source. This must be the power of dungeons from what I read about then.
Without any obvious hint I pick the right hallway. Why? Because it smells better. My nose has not failed me yet, because it led me to Arbri after all.
After walking for what seemed like an eternity I come across a slow moving gelatinous blob. It does not look very interested in me at all. Suits me fine that I do not have to fight it. As me and Carrot moved past it, it seems like it caught a whiff of the dead rat which Carrot has been carrying for several hours. But by the time it made its move we were long gone. Interesting little thing.
Eventually I arrived at a room which in which a staircase which lead upwards several floors was the centerpiece of it. Connected to the room are four hallways, but those are not as interesting as the stairs leading up!
Like how i felt a warm breeze when I first arrived here, that feeling is here again. I must be getting closer to the surface then! I start my ascent on these stairs and after a long time I finally arrive at the top. Walking all those steps made me feel exhausted so I took a rest before I continued moving on.
At the top of the staircase could a narrow hole be seen in the middle of the ceiling. Through it shine moonlight down through a metal grate. The outside is close, but yet so far away. In the distance I can hear the skittering of rats and the occasional grunt. Is that a new monster that I hear?
Gripping my wooden branch with both of hands I start sneaking towards where I heard the grunting noises. I walk into the only hallway there is up here while keeping close to the walls. After a while I hear squealing noises and fighting. What the heck are these monsters?
As I arrive at a three way junction I peek around the corner to see what the noises are. I see two small and thin pink skinned humanoids with pig faces. Their only clothes are loin cloths which protect their modesty. They look to be unarmed but their fingers have quite menacing looking thick nails on them. What are they?

Stunted pig man? They certainly look like small men with pig faces. But what are they fighting over? I then look at what is between them and what I see is a dead rat. Ah, food. I then look at the dead rat which Carrot is lugging around. Makes sense.
Then I hear squealing and grunting noises and one of the pig men punches the other one in the face. The other one screams out in pain and counter attacks. Good, tire out each other... I grin as I tighten the grip on my branch.
The pig men then kept fighting for a few minutes. Once the victor had been decided the other pig man walked away bloodied in shame. After it turned around the corner I quietly cast [Lesser dark bolt] at the victor. What followed afterward was the worst noise I has ever heard in my whole life.

This flaming pig man desperately tries to put out the fire, but because of its magical fuel it is a vain effort as it rolls around on the ground. Time to act! The pained squealing becomes even worse.

As I keep thinking about what to do, the loser of the previous fight comes back. Must had heard the squealing noises and then smelled the burnt flesh. The pig man looks unsure of what to do as it looks at me standing beside the corpse of its kin. I give it a death glare. It hesitates but then runs away squealing.
"Huh?" I just say as I squat over the corpse while using my wooden branch for support.
Chapter 16: The Supreme Evils Lament [Intermission]
A few days after the successful defense against the hero raid at The Supreme Evils grand castle...
In a dirty study filled with books sits a man who looks as if he lost everything. Raal''tara''goto looks miserable and not even his wife Isabella is able to cheer him up. Despite living a life of luxury since birth and having a beautiful wife is he missing something crucial in his life...
His daughter Biali.
Ever since that fateful day a few days ago, something reawakened within him. Not just mere hatred, but the desire for revenge. The damned heroes. They took away the only thing which meant anything for him in life. He would had been content to just weather their attacks as long as he got to spend time with his daughter.
But no, they even took that away from him. Ralto knows she is alive in his heart, but do not know where she ended up after that cursed spell that witch cast at her. This uncertainty pains him greatly.
"Darling, I am certain that Biali is able to handle herself." Says Isabella as she hugs Ralto from behind the desk chair. Ralto just sighs.
"I know that my daughter got my blood coursing through her veins, but I am afraid her spoiled upbringing made her soft... And vulnerable..." Says Ralto as he absentmindedly stares out the window in the study. The sky is blue and not a single cloud can be seen through it. He lets out a sigh as he grabs Isabellas hand.
All he wanted for his daughter was for her to have a relatively normal life without any need to fight. But now is Biali in some hell forsaken hole fighting for her life. His heart aches just by thinking of it.Support the author by searching for the original publication of this novel.
Compared to his own upbringing so has Biali had a relatively carefree one until now. She got loving parents who dote on her and she even has friends. Ralto on the other hand only got to live with his own father until he was twenty years old, and he never even knew his own mother. Did he even have one in the first place?
His father got murdered by heroes which invaded the very same castle he lives in when he just turned twenty years old. He took over the title as Supreme Evil ever since then, as it was his birthright after all.
Then he looks up at Isabella and continues: "Whatever hell they put my daughter through will be repaid thousandfold." His eyes then flares up as he releases her hand.
"That is the man I fell in love with." Says Isabella as she starts walking out of the study. She then stops when Ralto calls on her.
"I will no longer be idle. I will scour all the four worlds to find my daughter, and even bring down the gods themselves if they stand in my way." Raltos eyes flares up even more this time. Isabella then smiles and faces him.
"Mm, about time. It has been three hundred years since we married. That time during your crusade of revenge in The Eleven Hells was glorious! I do not mind watching a reprise~" Says Isabella softly as she kisses Ralto on the cheek and then follows up with a hug.
"Father..." Says Ralto as he hugs Isabella back. A tear then falls out from his right eye.
"Biali..." He quietly says as he hugs her even harder.
"The crusade is coming..." Ralto growls before he and Isabella start kissing each other.
At this day the plans for another crusade began to be made. Losing Biali, the crown princess was the tipping point for the Raal''tara''goto kingdom. All the citizens of the kingdom were outraged when they heard that they lost their princess. They were no longer content with just weathering the assaults of heroes.
The time to fight back is now. Abolish old conventions and rules set by ancient gods and kingdoms. A new renaissance has started, and the citizens of the kingdom now began throwing away their old way of life, in favor of one of total war. Just like in the ancient times of The Great Crusades.
If everything goes according to plan, then the kingdom is ready for a new crusade within a year.
Chapter 17: The guild meeting [Intermission]
The mood in the Heavenly Alliance guild is now much darker than usual. Ever since that defeat their guild rank plummeted because of the combined loss of levels and gold. On top of that they lost territory in Ypterra to other guilds.
By a round table sit around twenty people in various armors and robes in chairs inside a circular shaped room. Everyone got a serious look on their faces as the next thing to discuss on the agenda comes up.
"That Be''ial''ale monster we encountered has not been defeated." Says Deathshead with his face full of contempt as he looks at Mystia.
"I was sure that just the forced teleportation would kill that thing. But something prevented all of the damage going towards it. The only confirmation I got was that Raal''tara''goto took the brunt of it."Answers Mystia in a calm manner.
"And where is that monster now then?" Asks he Mystia impatiently. He hates it when things do not go according to plan.
"Could be somewhere deep down the dungeon in the Human capital. I was forced to set the destination in a hurry after all, and that was the first location that popped up on the menu. Even if that monster survived the teleportation, I doubt it will survive that murderous tree spirit down there." Everyone shudders in the room at the mention of that tree spirit.
Arbri the Vengeful is well known to be quite the party wiper because of the quests asking for the fruits of her tree are very well rewarded. Most parties do not even get the chance to cross the oasis lake before sinking down into the mud before dying. And even if you manage to take down her materialized spirit form, it will only take an hour before she comes back again.
"Y- Yeah, right." Stutters Deathshead. He got really bad memories with Arbri when he was a newbie. He then coughs and continues: "If that mad spirit attacks heroes on sight I doubt it will like demons at all."Stolen story; please report.
"Take it easy in knowing that Be''ial''ale won''t be disturbing us again. It did not look like that monster had any combat skills of note anyway. Pitifully weak for being a monster in an endgame dungeon." Says Mystia and everyone chuckles at the notion of Be''ial''ale being awfully out of place.
Everyone felt relieved that this monster was not any threat on its own. But they misjudged one thing; Instead of Arbri killing Be''ial''ale, they became friendly with each other. Another unknown variable which may very well ruin their future plans.
"Alright, next thing we need to discuss: There has been reports of unusual activity in Raal''tara''goto county. We do not know if it has anything to do with our failed attack, but the NPCs are acting weird. Instead of doing their usual daily routine it looks as if they are reinforcing their homes and smithing armor and weapons." Says Deathshead while putting his hands together. Then he looks at Lance which is maintaining his sword.
"That must be the realistic AI the developers kept touting about in their advertisements." Says Lance as he then puts up his sword in the air while inspecting it carefully. Then he puts its down on its side, and applies paste which he then uses a rag to rub it in with. He then looks Deathshead directly in the eyes. "Going by my common sense, it looks as if they are preparing for war." Everyone then bursts out laughing in the room.
"Oh, that is a good one Lance!" Manages Deathshead to say while wheezing. "NPCs doing things outside their scripted interactions? You are funny." If looks could kill, then Lance would had murdered Deathshead several times now.
Lance then just threw the rag at Deathsheads face and left the room not wanting any more of this nonsense. He has personally experienced NPCs doing things outside their scripted interactions before.
In real life does Lance own a corporation, so he has seen a lot of things that is outside the established norm. Thieving workers, corporate vultures, boot lickers, brown nosers, alcoholics, workers using their bodies to get up the corporate ladder, he has seen it all. And even then does life surprise him with the unexpected.
It looks like he has to confirm the reports himself of both Be''ial''ale being still alive and of the Raal''tara''goto kingdom gearing up for war.
Chapter 18: Roguelike
As I sit on the floor next to a wall to me, I start thinking of happier times.
Wake up early in the morning when the birds start singing and the sun stings my eyes. With the help of the castle maids I get help with taking my morning bath and getting dressed. Then while I am still tired, it is time for breakfast together with mommy and daddy. And after breakfast I take school lessons until its time for lunch.
"Ahh~" I happily sigh while smiling with my eyes closed. Do not take me back to reality yet...
I spend several minutes in this blissful state until Carrot walks up to me and pokes my knees. What is it now I wonder? I open my eyes and see Carrot doing its usual tilting with its head.
"Carrot, what is it?" I ask my minion. Carrot then points at the rat corpse which has started to... Dissolve? Wait, my food! I desperately try to stand up but fall flat on my face and can only watch as the dead rat disappear into nothingness.
"D- Dammit!" I cry out in frustration. I then look at the charred stunted pig man corpse. It still looks intact... Well, beggars can''t be choosers. Right? I clumsily climb up from the floor. Damn it. Sitting still for such a long time made me feel stiff!
Unsheathing my steel knife I look at the two legged pig. Where should I even start cutting in order to get the best bits? I move next to the corpse and sit down on my knees, and do not know where to even start.
"Think, think Biali!" I say feeling frustrated at my ineptness. This makes me wish I was born a hunter in this life! Calm down, and think logically! What do the cooks usually serve back home at the castle? Sure a lot of names with legs and flanks on them. Honey glazed wild hog leg in red wine sauce for example. Logically, I shall cut off a leg and take it with me!
With a gulp I grab the leg of the corpse with my left hand, and then firmly holds my knife with my right hand. Just remember what Arbri said Biali... Then I start sawing off the leg with my knife. Disgusting sounds are made as it cuts through muscle, cartilage and finally the snapping of bone as I force the knife through the leg.
"Eww. Eww!" I whine to myself as the leg separates from the corpse. Blood can be seen slowly flowing out of its now exposed blood vessels. I think I will drain it before I let Carrot carry it. Do not want to permanently stain my plushie minion with blood.

"Almost more gross than caving in heads!" I continue complaining as I hold the now severed leg upside down. After a little while the blood stopped flowing out, and I cleaned off the remaining blood before handing it over to Carrot.
As for that piggy I saw running away squealing earlier? I hope it didn''t run to get help. Speaking of which, I need to get moving! I quickly sheathe my now bloodied knife and start sneaking away with Carrot from the three way junction. I do not plan to follow after that pig man, because that detour will not be helpful at all in getting out.
Carrot and me now skulk along the wall in the hallway. Far behind me do I hear the sounds of grunting and squealing echoing again. Looks like the friends it brought along lost interest in chasing us there. Just stay there and do not bother me...
Eventually the racket dies down as we come to the entrance of a bigger room. What I can see when I peek out from the door frame is that room is oval shaped and got a very tall ceiling where you can see the sky through large rectangular holes. The whole room itself is littered with pillars twice as wide as me and some of them are broken off at various heights. At some points can large stone blocks be found which are blocking off line of sight between various pillars.
What I found most interesting in the room was a rope which hung down from the top of one of the pillars that went all the way up to the top of the sky holes. I then start smiling.
"I think I found a way out, teehee~" I could not contain my excitement at the thought of finally getting outside! With great motivation I now grip my wooden branch harder in my right hand, and peeks around the door frame more to find out what I am going against.
When I peek to the left I find what looks like several dungeon rats eating a dead stunted pig man. Then when I look to the right I can only see what looks like a rundown wooden shack. Figuring it was best to leave the rats alone I carefully start sneaking my way towards the shack. This story originates from Royal Road. I am getting the hang of this stealth thing, the rats are not suspecting anything! On my way to the shack I carefully peek out from the pillars before I go to the next. I found it becoming routine the more I did it. Practice makes perfect, just like how my teachers told me.
Once I arrived to the shack I clumsily climbed my way up on top of it together with Carrot. I think the noise I made woke up a dungeon rat inside it, which then ran out of it panicked towards the rest of the rats. Eventually I climbed on top of the shack and tried figuring out how to get to that rope.
"Wow..." I can just say to what I find out is in the middle of the room. What looks like a small village is there which is lit up well by torches. Among the huts walk more of those pig men calmly in the "streets". Looks like I will either have to be sneaky like a rogue, or make a spectacular escape.
I now notice that the rat which I previously scared off brought along its friends over here. They look very hungry still and their bodies are covered with blood. Why can''t anything work in my favor for once?
But wait! I could use the rats as a distraction while I make my break towards the rope. Just have to power my [Lesser dark bolt] differently so all it does is cause pain without hurting them too much... How do I even do that? Won''t know until I try!
"[Lesser dark bolt]" I chant while I imagine myself rearranging the components of the spell in a way that its killing power is significantly lowered in exchange for lasting a very long time. It is like forcing someone to eat their soup with a teaspoon instead of a normal spoon essentially. I bite my lower lip as I do my best to cast this modified variant. As if something clicked inside my head, I then snapped my fingers and unleashed the bolt towards my first victim.

The dark bolt still hurt the rat but now the poor rat think its insides are on fire. The noises it make echoes throughout the entire room. I now start to hear grunting and sound of movement coming from the village. Looks like it worked, but not good enough. Now sing rats~
In quick succession I afflict the rest of the rats with my newly concocted spell. The noises they all made hurt my ears, so now is the time get out of here! I grab Carrot which still holds onto the leg for dear life and jump diagonally from the shack onto a stone block between two pillars.
The cacophony of screams behind me and the commotion of footsteps in front of me make my heart beat faster. I hide on top of the block before I jump onto the block on the opposite side of me. As I land I nearly slip but I managed to keep myself upright, the experience made my heart skip a beat.
As I continued jumping on top of blocks and hiding as needed I started to hear sounds of fighting. The dumb pig men must had thought it was a great idea to mess with a big group of enraged rats. The sounds of pained squealing and squeaking echoes throughout the room now as well.
"Maybe the plan worked too well..." I mutter to myself as I finally can see the rope nearly within reach. The rope leading up to my freedom is now just one stone block jump away, but before I think of jumping I hear more deeper pitched sounds of a pigs grunting.
What I can see from my hiding spot is a pig man as big as an adult coming out of its hut. On its back it got what looks like a bow and on its hip it got a rusty dagger. Is it just a regular pig man?

I make myself even more invisible to the pig man which passes by me in the stone block corridor beneath me. I keep my breath the whole time until I no longer can hear the footsteps anymore.
"Damn, that felt like an eternity..." I quietly talk to myself before I get up and ready myself to jump. With a decisive sprint followed by a leap I get over to the next stone block where the rope resides on. Before grabbing onto the rope I check if anyone is coming over or is watching. I bite my lower lip harder and order Carrot to hold onto shoulders. Carrot is still holding onto that leg, but now its squeezed between us.
I hold my wooden branch in my mouth as I grab onto the rope. Damn, it tastes disgusting, eww! The first few climbs up on the rope felt tiring on my arms and legs. But I just bite on my branch harder. Now or never Biali!
During the climb I felt how my heart raced and as if time itself slowed down for me. When I was almost all the way up I felt a breeze and then heard the sound of something metallic hitting the ceiling next to me. Irritated grunting could be heard from down below. Damn it! I got spotted by that chieftain!
With all my remaining energy I furiously climb up and as soon as I pulled myself over the ceiling edge I feel how my nightgown gets hit between my legs. The sound of ripping fabric is heard as something passes through and then beyond it into the sky. I hear enraged squealing from below as I catch my breath.
"Never... Again..." I mutter as I lie feeling half dead on the sand upside. Then exhaustion quickly catches up with me, and my eye lids feel incredibly heavy...

I feel how the warm sun hits my eyes through the eyelids. The sun is licking the exposed skin on my left arm and the air feels damp. In the distance I hear the sounds of... Carts? People talking? Where am I exactly?
As I sit up I open my eyes and the view surprises me. I sit on top of a sand mound and all around me can I see walls encircling the area around me down below. As far as my eyes can see, houses, massive interconnected castles and chimneys with smoke rising out of them are everywhere. A landscape made out of nothing but man made stuff!
"No way..." I say in disbelief as I rub my eyes and look again.

Dungeon entrance discovered.
|
Enormous city... Dungeon entrance... Wait, it can only mean one thing... The humans are the only ones which got a dungeon in their city! But wait... Why did I end up here of all places? Too many questions, and no answers for any of them!
As I continue to think about my situation my tummy reminds me that I should eat. Good thing I brought with me this leg from that pig man. I hope it at least tastes pork and not as terrible as those dungeon rats.
"Breakfast. I guess..." I say to myself before I yawn and stretch my aching body. Using my wooden branch to help me, I slowly rise up from the sandy ground. As I stand up I get a better look at the walled in dungeon entrance area. Downhill from this sand mound I can see the occasional pine tree and boulder. But what got my attention the most was the small lake which was connected to a river going all the way down from a mountain to the west of me. I found where to go next. I really need a bath. I just say: "Here we go."
After about ten minutes I arrived at the small lake, and all around it could I find litter like wooden planks, old decaying cloth, strips of leather and other nasty things. The humans certainly do not care about beauty!Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
Using rocks and planks lying around I make something resembling a fireplace and light it up with my [Lesser dark bolt]. By using a stick lying on the ground I put it through the monster leg with the help of my knife. Then starts the long process of roasting it over the fire...
After the leg which was being slowly roasted started to look finished, the smell of pork filled the air again. It made my mouth start to water. Humanoid or not from which it came from, I am starving! Ethics can be thought of later! Not being able to wait anymore I start wolfing down the meat straight off the bone. Amazingly it is still edible after being out for this long.
For what felt like an instant my face and hands are now covered in meat juices and fat. Not very ladylike, but I do not care. I wash my hands and face in the lake before taking off my ruined nightgown. I stepped down into the cool lake. It took quite a while to clean but eventually all mud and ingrained sweat is gone.
Once I felt clean enough I put on my nightgown again to regain some modesty. I really need to get proper clothing once I enter the city. Maybe I can acquire or charm myself a pair? A fashionable leather corset with matching leather pants under a cute robe is the ideal! Maybe a cute leather pouch on the side too? Ahh~ How I miss being dressed fashionable again.
I kept thinking about dresses, fashion, cake, tea and other such girly things as I walked along the wall hoping to find an exit. During the whole time I wore Carrot on my back like backpack and used my wooden branch as a walking stick. Arbri''s wooden branch sure is a great multi purpose tool! Speaking of which, it seems to be a lot more different than before...

That doesn''t sound ominous at all, does it? Also it feels a lot more easier lugging it around too, must be that intense training the boxes gabbed on about.
After quite a while I finally found a gate which was not closed down. The open gate itself was enough to let through a carriage five horses wide if it needed to! What would they even need that for? Compared to the castle gate at home this one is enormous. I guess the humans really love big things...
While absentmindedly walking right into open gate I bumped into a large mans back with my nose in front of me. Because I did not pay any attention I fell back onto my butt.
"Owie..." I say as I am holding my nose which bumped into the large man. The man noticed that something hit his back and slowly started to face me. His face was that of a lion and only then did I notice that he got a tail sticking out from his backside. He wore what looked like chain mail armor with just one metal pauldron and leather pants on his legs. No boots because his enormous paws obviously could not fit into anything made by humans. And finally on the shoulder without a pauldron he rested an enormous axe with two blades.
"Hmm..." The lion faced man said as he looked at what hit him. But then he realized that he could not see it, so he then looked down directly at me. His face first looked annoyed, but then it quickly shifted to one of worry as he looked at my left arm which got a bloodied improvised bandage wrapped around it.
He then squats down next to me and I can then see behind him two other people. Two women in robes with amulets having different symbols. What I also could make out is that one of the women has horns not too unlike mine sticking out of the robe. The man then starts talking to me.
"Who are you little one?"
"Uhm... Uh..." I try to talk but I feel like something is blocking my words in my head. The lion faced man then looks at my left arm again.
"Hrm... Little one is hurt." He then gently puts his oversized hand which looks like a mix between a feline paw and human hand under my left arm. His soft fur between the pads feels oddly calming to me.
"M- My name is Bi- Biali!" I finally manage to stutter out after unclogging that block in my head. Ever since I left the dungeon away from Arbri, I feel like my social skills has eroded massively. What is going on!?
"I see." The man then says and looks over his shoulder to the two ladies behind him. He makes a gesture with his head urging them to come over. Which they do after briefly looking at each other.
"What is the matter now, Khan?" Says the lady with the horns which I notice now got quite big assets on her chest in which the robe does not help to hide at all. Her beautiful face is partly veiled by her brown hair.
"You found a lost lamb-" The other lady which looks got no defining features comes up to me and immediately set her eyes on my bandaged left arm. Then she puts her right palm partly over her mouth and looks worried. "-what happened to you, child!?"
Why are they looking like they want to help me? Can''t they see that I am the daughter of the Supreme Evil himself? Are they heroes or not? I am so confused...
"Looks like the little one came from the dungeon." Says Khan as he released my left arm and then stands up as he looks at the sandy mound. "Thought little ones were not allowed to enter it." The women in robes then looks at him and then at me.
"With how Biali looks, she must has been desperate." Says the not horned woman as she sits next to me. Her face is filled with empathy. "Tell me Biali, why did you go to the dungeon?"
I feel shocked. I did not expect the inhabitants of the city to treat me with kindness at all. I has been on guard all this time, but I do not feel any hostility from these people at all. Should I tell her the truth or lie? What if she tells the heroes and then they kill me? I now just stare at the ground and feels how panic showers all over me. The horned woman then starts talking again.
"Biali must has been through a lot. I''ll take her over to the church and wait until she has calmed down." The horned woman then picks me up effortlessly and I am in no mood to resist at all. Her picking me up feels like how mommy used to do it when I was a child. This soothed me greatly and it all felt like a blur as she walked through the packed streets. I ended up falling asleep because all of the stress I built up until now just vanished in an instant...
Later in the day I woke up in a bed inside a room which was entirely built out of gray stone bricks. The only light which was let in is through a small window slit. When I pull off the blanket I feel like I am now in a fresh set of clothing. It is a robe much like what the ladies wore but in my size.
Feeling conflicted of my situation I just sit there in the bed frozen at what to do next. I looked at my hands all this time while blanking in and out in deep thought.
"What do I do now?" I mutter to myself as I look out the window slit. Then suddenly I get the thought of what I miss the most right now. "I miss mommy and daddy..." I say as I start crying and hugs the pillow in the bed. I feel like all my walls I built up in my head eroded at the point when I got carried into this church.
I wept for a long while as I thought of my family, friends and of home. With nothing holding me back all bottled up feelings were let out in an instant.
"...how pathetic..." I mutter to myself while still sniffling. "...the daughter of the Supreme Evil himself acting like this..." I smile and let out a chuckle. "I guess at our core we are emotional beings after all..." This must has been the biggest piece of self reflection I has made so far in my life.
I finally let myself up and I notice that next to my bed lie my plushie, wooden branch and belt with knife. My ruined nightgown is nowhere to be seen. Maybe its for the best... It is nothing but bad memories at this point. Also it looks like my plushie Carrot is no longer animated because of the lack of smoke coming out from its eyes. Must has run out of stored magic by the time I reached the gate.
Then I hear knocking on the door to the room from outside.

I hear a knocking on the door to the room from outside.
"C- Come in..." I meekly say to the one knocking on the door while I look at it. The door opens and I watch as the horned lady from earlier come in with my ruined nightgown and tattered underwear in her arms. A look of dissatisfaction is upon her face.
"Biali, my child. Your clothes are in tatters I am afraid." Says she as she puts my ruined nightgown and underwear into a small alcove in the wall. Then she looks at me again. "How was your rest? You fell asleep the moment I started carrying you." I fidget a bit with my feet and I look into her eyes.
"I slept well..." She then smiles and sits beside me on a stool.
"Great. Do you feel like telling us what happened to you during dinner today?" I sigh but give her a little smile.
"I will." I simply answer her with. She then pulls off her hood which now reveals her horns fully and smiles. The horns are curved almost like mine but they are white instead of black.
"You are not the first one which I has seen in your situation. Desperate poor children sneaking into the dungeon in hope of finding anything to eat. Most never come back out again, and those which do are hurt for life." Her smile become dimmer as she continues talking. "You are fortunate to still be in one piece and encountering us especially."
Well, she got half of my story right at least. I did not enter the dungeon out of my own will after all!
"But I-" I start talking but then she hushes me.
"Tell us your story at the dinner table, okay?" She smiles again and I can now smell food through the opened door. "It is time. Please, follow me."
I step out of the bed and put on a pair of wool slippers which was next to the bed. Then I follow after the horned lady through the many corridors in the church. How big is this church anyway!?
Finally did we enter the dining room, and there could I see more robed people with the same amulets as the horned lady. As I seated myself at the table I could see other children of different ages and races. Who are they and why are they here? The reactions from the other children is a mixed bag, some are curious meanwhile others are wary.
The robed people served all of us a bowl of stew, along with bread and a mug with milk. After they got their own share they sat along with us children. Then the horned lady started talking while holding her palms together.
"Children, we are happy that you are still with us today. Now let us all who want and is able to join in prayer.
Praise be the Horned Savior, Tyrbalesh, Saint of children, Savior of the family, for our daily bread.
Bless the children of the world, for their future, and for their happiness.
In the presence of our saint and lord Tyrbalesh, we beg of your grace and blessing.
Thank you."
As she finished I could swear I saw a faint flood of golden color from the horned lady. And now I feel energetic and happy.

The children immediately started eating the food meanwhile I just stared at Nana. I thought blessings was not an actual thing while living at home in the castle. But then, neither mommy and daddy are very religious...
Nana notices me staring and then points at her bowl. I cough and then start eating. It has been such a long time since I had proper food, so even this simple stew is delicious. Before I knew it, the stew made out of grains, carrots, cabbage and meat jerky was eaten clean out of the bowl. I did not even leave any traces of bread crumbs left!
"Puh..." I contently make a noise as I lay back in the dining chair. I am in a state of pure bliss now. No stress, no worries, only me and the people in the room. How I missed this feeling ever since I got thrown into that damned dungeon. Nana then taps her spoon on the table and starts talking.
"As you may have noticed, we got a newcomer to our lost flock of children. Biali was found nearby the dungeon wounded and shocked.
Biali, do you feel comfortable about telling how you ended up there?" The children and adults then looks at me in anticipation.
Should I tell them the truth or should I bend it? I do not need to have any heroes at my tail yet. I am not sure if these people are related to the heroes either. Gah, what should I do!? I sigh and then decide to just bend the truth a bit. But would they still believe it if I was the daughter of the Supreme Evil?
"I was thrown into the dungeon by an evil wizard." Evil from my point of view anyway. "The wizard separated me from my parents, and tried to use the dungeon to kill me!" I then started to think of the point I met Arbri. "But then I got saved by the spirit down there which helped me find the way out." Oh how I miss Arbri. She is always so nice to me. "Along the way I got bit by a rat but I managed to kill it..." I shudder at how weak I was at that point. "And finally I escaped the dungeon by climbing up a rope."
Nana and the other robed person which was with her then put their palms on their mouths. Then they started talking with the rest of the adults in hushed tones. After a short while Nana started talking with me again.
"That is horrible Biali! Who would do such a thing?" Says Nana as her eyes starts to get misty. "Do you know your way back to your parents?" I just shake my head and say: "No..."
The mood in the room plummeted now. It looks like my modified, but true story was quite the mood killer. But then a boy at my age with blonde hair and a pretty face starts talking.
"Oi Biali, what did you ever do to upset an evil wizard?"
"I did nothing!" I cry back at him in frustration.
"Then why you? A cute girl like yourself is a waste to throw away." He looks awfully pleased with himself.
"I- I don''t know... Nothing makes sense!"
"Aye, nothing makes sense in this darn world. One year it is peaceful, and then the next year you suddenly got a horde of people calling themselves heroes bursting through portals in churches everywhere!" At the H word I snap my eyes towards his with killing intent and I start feeling how my breathing becomes heavier. But then I quickly drop it and sigh.
"S- Sorry..." I meekly say to the boy and look at the table instead. The boy strangely did not seem to react.
"Nah, nothing to be sorry about Biali. How about we have a little chat later, aye?" I look up as he says that and he gives me a wink. I wonder why he is so interested in me?
"Right..." I answer and look back at Nana. She then starts ordering all of the children to clean up after themselves, and let the other adults lead them out. The blonde boy winks at me again as he walks out and then it is only me and Nana remaining in the dining room.
"My name is Nana Weatherhorn and I will be your substitute parent for as long as you stay here, if you do not mind." Says Nana to me while looking motherly. "Each child which we take care of through the church and the orphanage gets assigned to their own substitute parent, so you are no exception to that rule." She then takes out a ledger out of thin air and puts it into her hands. That must has been magic!
"Hmm,
Name: Biali,
Found where: Dungeon entrance,
Date: 20th of Yellow Leaf at year 4352,
Parents: Alive but no known whereabouts,
Stay for how long: Until parents are found or something else happens." Nana then makes the ledger disappear into thin air and looks at me again. She then takes out a pin with a tag on it.
"As long as you wear this pin you will be recognized as being part of the church, in short it makes you a citizen of this city. As for the rules: Do not be outside for too long playing with the other children, you must come back during lunch or dinner time unless you got written permission from your apprenticeship or job." I just blink as she dumps all this information at me.
I guess this will be my life... For now. As a lost child of the church. Guess there are worse fates out there for one like me. As long as I do not encounter the same heroes which put me into this situation things should go well!
With nothing to do I might as well go talk with that blonde boy again. I never got the chance to play with boys after all because of the damn heroes making it impossible for me visit Raedora. Maybe I finally can try doing this teasing thing which she talked so much about?
Blonde boy, I hope you are ready!
Chapter 21: Girl meets boy
After nearly an hour of searching I finally found the blonde boy again. He has just been sitting on a low wall outside the church by the gate soaking in the evening sun onto his tanned skin the entire time. When I approached him he did not notice me because he was gazing into the sun with eyes closed.
"Boy! You never told me your name." I say to the blonde boy which got startled by my sudden approach. He yawns and stretched his arms before looking at me with his golden eyes.
"Oi, you sure surprised me there cutie." He responds to me and smiles. I pout and tap my right foot onto the cobblestone.
"That did not answer my question..."
"Hahaha, why are ya in such a rush, lass?" He then slides down the wall and approaches me. "My name is Terion. At least that is what the priestess told me." Terion then put one of his fingers under his lip and look thoughtful.
"Uhm, okay Terion. I am Biali as you know." I put my arms together and look him in the eyes. "So what is your story then?" He then looks me directly in the eyes, and I thought I saw his eyes flash pink for a split second.

"Priestess Nana who is like a mother for me. She told me that one day I was found outside the church with just a blanket coverin'' me. The priests took me in and raised me as one of their own.
To this day I don''t know who ma'' real parents are. What, did ya expect a sob story?" Terion sighs and puts his arms together.
Compared to Terion I has had a pretty good upbringing... At least I know my parents and has lived a life of luxury. He then touches my shoulder and I snap out of my thinking.
"Sorry, I was just thinking..." I quickly say as I blush a bit while looking down. After a moment I level my eyes with his again. "Do you not want to know who your real parents are?"
"Nah, they are prolly'' up to no good if they kicked me out. I do not hate them, but I do not want to meet em'' either."
"Okay. I miss my parents though..." I let out a long sigh and feel sad. Terion then pats me on my shoulder.
"Do not worry lass, one day ya will find them again." He then walks behind me and start waving his other hand across the sky. "Maybe even kick the ass of that bloody wizard which brought ya here!" He then started laughing and I felt better. I then start smiling. Terion is a funny boy.
"Heh, kicking that wizards ass." I chuckle at the use of such crude language as he releases his hand and stands beside me.Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
"A little cussin'' every now and then raises ya spirit!"
"This place is nice. Do you like it?"
"I ain''t ''ave much to compare to, but they has always treated me well."
"Compared to home the church is less decorated but otherwise it feels the same." I start reminiscing of my home and of my very own bed.
"How''s it like at home?" Terion asks as a feeling nostalgia fills me.
"I live in a huge castle together with mommy and daddy. And in it live many maids too which help me every day. Also the only way in is to go over a long bridge!" Terion looks impressed and skeptical at the same time.
"Are ya tellin'' me that ya are a princess or something?" He chuckles and then continues: "Well, ya certainly look the part at least." Terion then ruffles my hair.
"No- Stop!" I protest and revenges with my own ruffling of his hair!
"Ey, ain''t ya cheeky!"
Not long after do we both lie on the street teasing each other. We both refuse to give up so we spend the rest of the day playing outside. Our clothes and shoes ended up getting dirty but we got clean ones before it was bedtime.
I am very happy now, for once. Not fighting for my life is nice for a change. I hope I won''t get nightmares of that dungeon after settling down here until its time to leave again. Meeting and playing with Terion today raised my mood a lot as well!
Thanks to Terion my opinion of humans was raised today. Maybe not all humans are bad...
Since Terion was the only child my age we spent a lot of time this week playing, talking or just taking it easy outside. I found out that he is an apprentice blacksmith and that he like taking walks along the river.
Terion mentioned that all new children which either enters through the church or orphanage, take a test in order to see if they got aptitude for a trade. Some children which showed aptitude for magic got enrolled into the Royal Magical Academy. According to him they lucked out because they pretty much got their future covered.
I hope that when I do the test that my identity is not uncovered. They will probably imprison me and use me as a hostage against daddy. I just shudder at the thought of being locked up in a dungeon.
At the end of the week sat we all as usual by the dinner table enjoying our dinner. But in the middle of the dinner tapped Nana Weatherhorn her spoon at the table, and started talking.
"Children, as you know; Each year are you all tested for aptitude in either trades or magic.
This year is no exception, so in one month ahead will we all go together to the proving grounds. Do not be afraid, it is like a fair where you can have fun while testing your aptitudes!
I hope you all will look forward to it."
Terion, which now sit next to me now quietly starts talking as an uncomfortable feeling wells up from within me.
"Why do ya look so pale, Biali? Nothin'' to be afraid of. Always the same with newcomers... Nervous and thinkin'' they need to prove themselves." He then just makes an exaggerated shrug with both his hands up in the air. Aren''t you afunny guy?
"What exactly do you do there?" I quietly say as I look at Terion with a serious expression.
"Oi, why so gloom? Anyway, there are several stands with peeps'' from different trades. And there also stations where ya can try using magic at. Lads and lassies in funny hats usually are next to em."
"Oh." I look down at the table again. I am still not convinced it is a good idea.
"They got stands sellin'' treats like honey roasted nuts and cotton candy!" I perk up and look at him now.
"Ya now look at me like a bear out for honey!" He chuckles and leans back on his chair. "How ''bout I treat ya'' to some cotton candy, aye?" He winks as he looks into my eyes, and I feel an unfamiliar warm feeling inside me as my cheeks feel warmer.
"S- Sure!" I stutter out to him. What am I doing? Biali, are you okay? You are not going mad again are you? Ohh, I see how it is!
See what? I wonder what the other me is hinting at. Teehee, not telling ya! For being so emotional you are still missing some things.
I just raise my eyebrows and shrug my head. Terion raises his eyebrows and stops leaning on his chair. Then he just smiles and shrugs his shoulders.
What just happened?
Chapter 22: The other side of the coin
After the first week passed, I started participating in the school lessons which the church offered to the children. With nothing to do until I make a plan in order to fight back the heroes, I might as well learn all I can from the humans. Nobody seem to suspect me yet that I am the Supreme Evils daughter. Maybe they just think that my black horns are just a rare color of the ram type of beast men?
Most of the stuff they started teaching us now do I already know. But the history and religion topics are new to me! Today they are teaching us about the Eternal Demon Wars.
At the desk in front of stand an elderly human man in a priest robe. His most defining feature are his spectacles which rest on his beak like nose. On the desk in front of him lies a large old book with many bookmarks in it, and behind him is a blackboard which still got things written on it from before.
He corrects his spectacles before talking to us.
"Today‘―s lesson is about the Eternal Demon Wars which has been a reoccurring event during all of our recorded history.
Ever since man and beast kind formed their first villages so has demons from the other world been present. For years they fought against the demons without any end in sight, but then a miracle happened. With the guidance of the first gods was the first cities and kingdoms formed.
In the safety of cities prospered the kingdoms and became strong enough to finally push out the demons from the lands. With the great advances in magic at the same was the first world barrier constructed which held the demons back.
But alas, the barrier was not without its faults. Every three hundred years becomes the presence on the other side strong enough to overpower it, which lets demons roam free within the lands again. The gods feeling responsible for man and beast kind then lent out their hand again.
The helping hand from the gods had the form of exceptional individuals which we these days now call heroes. By summoning them from their realms they has got the potential to grow extremely powerful. And because they can''t truly be killed they will persist in their mission until the Supreme Evil is slain."
At the point I heard the dreaded H-word I snap my pen in a fit of anger. I then grunt as I look at the pen remains. Terion looks at me with worry in his eyes. He then leans next to me and whispers.
"Oi, Biali. How are ya feelin''?"
"It''s nothing..."
"Ya looked real upset for a second there..."
"Never mind." I sigh and concentrate on the lesson again. The teacher now started drawing a triangle on the blackboard with three circles merging with it on the sides. Looks like a misshapen flower to me.
"This triangle represents the realm of Ypterra in which the Supreme Evil and its minions reside in. Demons become stronger the closer they are to the castle in the middle. Aside from that so does Ypterra also work as a hub for the three worlds connected to it." He then waves his stick around the triangle.
"Here can we see the three known worlds which are connected to Ypterra: Terra which we reside in, Grand Heaven where divine races exist and finally The Eleven Hells from where demons and devils live in." The teacher then puts the stick in both his hands and looks at us.
"For as long as a Supreme Evil exists, the demon wars will exist as well. Despite the help of heroes, this cycle of three hundred years of peace, and then total war has not been able to be broken." He then sighs and looks down at the floor.
"Even the heroes are not perfect." He then looks up at us again and continues: "Many fall into temptation to engage in territorial wars with other guilds. With this inter-factional conflict the demise of the Supreme Evil is delayed." He then points his stick at us.
"The longest time which the demise of the Supreme Evil has been delayed is twenty years. At that point the invasion of demons became nearly unbearable. Even the gods themselves personally intervened at great costs of their own powers.Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.
Even now the gods are recovering from their loss." The teacher then looks out the stained glass window behind us as he puts his stick behind him.
"This concludes the introduction of the demon wars."
I lie down my head on the desk with only my right arm holding my head up by the forehead. This truly gave me a lot to think about. I feel a slight ache in my head now as I try to make sense of this new information.
Is what the teacher is saying true?
But if what they say is true... Then it makes sense to why they want us... Dead... No, I do not accept that answer! I clench my free fist and just feel like I want to scream, but then Terion put his hands around it.
I look at him and feel soothed. I sigh and give him a conflicted look.
"Thanks Terion..." I say to him, but he just give me his usual smile which I has started to like for some reason.
"Biali, if ya are explodin'' now, then how will ya ever get the chance to try that cotton candy?" What kind of response is that? I just started laughing at him.
He sure knows how to make me laugh. I should thank him again for preventing me from causing a scene here. My family and heroes are very touchy subjects for me. For different reasons.
Assuming what they say is true then I can understand why they think that attacking my family completely unprovoked is the solution. But what if there is another way? Another way...
I still feel how Terion is wrapping his hands around my hand. As I look toward the teacher again I pull out my hand out of his warm palms. The teacher then coughs and starts talking again.
"According to the gods the Supreme Evil is not yet defeated." My ears perk up when I hear that.
"While it usually takes about twenty to thirty years to defeat the evil. It is the first time in recorded history that the Supreme Evil survived against an attack with overwhelming odds. Despite being blessed by the gods, each member in the raid perished." I feel how my mouth just gapes open. This feels eerily familiar, and I start cold sweating.
"Let this be a lesson for you all; being blessed by the gods is not a guarantee that you will succeed. In the end what matters is what you can do, not what you are given."

Divine protections can be disrupted by you.
It starts making sense now of what happened home in the castle throne room. When my daddy cast that spell the heroes were confident that they would not be affected. But it worked, and they died and turned into motes of light. I now nervously look at Terion which looks worried over me again in return. The teacher just continues his ranting.
"In the past the Supreme Evil gets vanquished as soon as their presence gets known. Their age in human years is around three hundred and thirty by then. With the intervention of the gods this menace has never let been too long lived, but these times it is unusual." I look down into my school bench and put my forehead between my palms.
What is going on? Was my daddy supposed to die back at the throne room? The more I listen to this, the less I like it.
"Do not be worried; the gods heard the pleas from the heroes and are now readying them for a second assault. This time they assure it will be successful." I start panicking and I feel how Terion grabs me by my shoulders.
I need to get back. Bring me back. Get me back there. I go back.
I must get back.
But how?
I feel how my head is spinning as my thoughts are in a chaotic mess.
"Oi'' teach'', I think Biali is feelin'' ill. I''ll take her to her room, A''ight?" Says Terion in his usual confident tone as he drags me out of the classroom. I do not pay attention at all as he drags me to my room.
The world is unfair! Life is unfair! Why do the heroes get such special treatment by the gods and we not!? Also how am I supposed to get back to daddy and mommy again!? I curse yet again at my ineptness.
Suddenly I am hugged by Terion and I feel how my face is buried in his chest as I am at the point of yet another emotional outburst.
"What''s the matter, Biali? Feeling sick? Why are ya eyes misty?" Says Terion as he cradles my head around his arms. This reminds me of the times my daddy hugged me while I was sad or upset. A comforting feeling. I sniffle a bit, but I feel a lot better now.
"...bad memories..." I quietly say while still in his care. Terion is a really good friend whom cares for me.
He returns me back to my room and I rest there for a while. Then the rest of the day went as normal. I must have a plan. I must acquire power. I must do... A lot.
Wait, the aptitude test!
The aptitude test, yes. That is my best bet for now. If I show my talent as a magician, then I can enroll in the academy. And I can grow my magical powers right in the middle of the heroes!
The heroes won''t wait, so I can''t bide my time here forever. At least I got something resembling a plan now.
Chapter 23: Khans tale
A week before the aptitude test the church protector Khan took us out for a trip out to the lake outside the dungeon. The purpose of the trip was so all children get reconnected to nature, at least for a little while. Well as close as nature as they could get, because I found out that the city used to be in a forest in the past, but it grew big enough to engulf it completely.
Our activities for the day included bathing in the lake, cooking food, singing and sparring with Khan. What I most looked forward to was the singing and sparring! Terion on the other hand was more interested in the bathing, but he did not mind sparring.
"This is a familiar gate..." I comment as we pass under the gate in which Khan and Nana Weatherhorn found me at. I do not got any bad memories of it, in fact they are one of my happier ones lately.
"Hah, I heard that they found ya over here." Answers Terion in his cheery as usual tone. He carries a much heavier backpack than me. Terion insisted that he would carry some of the stuff in my backpack. He was so persistent I just gave in. Next time I won''t give in though!
We walk into the sparse pine woods next to the lake and Khan then starts talking.
"Little ones, this may be the first time for some of you, so heed my words." Says he loud and clear to us.
"Do not leave the pack, I do not want to look for you.
Do not enter the dungeon, little ones die in it.
Do not enter the lake without telling me first.
Last of all, have fun, joy is the greatest spice in life."
It did not take long until we arrived at the same place I grilled and ate that pig man leg. But now was my makeshift fireplace all gone, it probably got ruined by the rain during my absence. With Khan in the lead it did not take long until we had all our backpacks unpacked, and a fireplace assembled complete with cooking pots and a spinning skewer. By the time we was done the sun already started to fall down into the horizon and the clear sky changed its colors into a reddish orange.Did you know this text is from a different site? Me and the children started by taking a bath in the cool lake as Khan cooked up dinner for us all. It is a blessing in this heat! Me and Terion especially spent a lot of time just playing in the lake. Throwing water at each other and diving and arriving at unexpected places next to us. It is so fun!
As we started wolfing down dinner I looked at Khan and asked about something I has been curious about ever since I arrived here.
"Khan? How did you come to work for the church?" Khan takes a long look at the horizon at first, but then focuses his eyes at me.
"That is a tale, little one." He puts down his bowl and sticks his spoon in it.
"Little ones, listen closely." Everyone turns towards him and are silent in anticipation. Khan then takes a careful look at everyone and starts telling his story.
"When I was a little cub, I was found alone outside the city on the highway in just a basket.
A group of adventurers, who were on their way back from a quest, found me.
They nearly left me there, if it wasn''t for one person. Nana Weatherhorn which was the parties priest, took pity upon me. Much to the anger of the others.
After a lot of arguing, Nana split off from the party. She never saw them anymore since then."
Khan looks up at the sky with a mixture of happiness and sadness in his face.
"Nana lost a lot, in order to allow me grow up, and grow strong.
Her adventuring career is just a memory now."
He then looks at all of us carefully and continues talking.
"On the other hand.
She has helped many little ones, to have a future of their own, ever since then.
It is a sacrifice, I intend to share her burden.
Just like how she shared my burden.
Nana, whom I consider to be my mother."
He blink with his eyes and a tear falls out of one of his eyes.
"I owe everything I have to Nana and the church.
Helping little ones bring me great joy.
With my axe, I protect the church and little ones."
Khan then stands and proudly puffs up his chest with his bowl still in his hand.
"And that is my tale."
A tale of compassion, sacrifice and charity. I like it! I guess my own tale won''t be as bright in comparison. But there is still time for me to weave my own tale into a completely different direction than where it is going to now. My setback at the start will be overshadowed by what happens later on in my tale!
After this little story time, most of us played around or sparred with Khan. When it came to singing it was mostly us girls who joined in, but it was a lot of fun! Hahaha, make me wonder if the aptitude test have a stand for singers?
This entire trip was enjoyable and we all came back just at bedtime. With the aptitude test next week, I am both hyped and nervous at the same time. I will hope for the best.
Chapter 24: Aptitude test
|
Merchant district discovered.
Plaza of Heroes discovered.
|
All of us children are now following after Nana and Khan to the place where we will best testing our aptitudes for trades and magic. The overall ambiance of everywhere we go is one of laughing and cheering. Just being outside on this sunny and moist day bring my hope and mood up greatly!
When we finally arrive to the plaza where its at. My eyes can''t believe how many people I see in one area simultaneously. People of different social statuses mingle together with each other. All kinds of races you can imagine are here too. And on top of it so is the smell of food heavy in the air. The mood descriptor of today is: festive!
As we pass by a huge banner going from one house to another house across the street I smell something sweet in the air. It smells toasty too. I start sniffing and try to find the source of this wondrous smell. Terion notices what I am doing and starts whispering in my ear.
"Haha, ya are like a shark in the water, which just got the smell of blood in its nostrils." I then look back at him in surprise as he pulls up two big copper coins between his fingers.
"Didn''t I tell ya that I would treat ya to somethin'' sweet?" He says while winking. Terion then looks at Nana and Khan. "Oi'' Nana, Biali and me are going off on our own, is that ''kay?"
Nana and Khan just looks at each other first but then looks back at Terion and just nods. Looks like they are used to his antics. Terion just grins and grabs me by my hand and drags me off.
I wonder why Terion has taken such a liking to me? Is this how all boys act? I must ask Raedora when I get back.
The sweet toasty smell gets stronger as he drags me along to the heavenly place. I wonder where Terion got those coins from? Does he work when we are not playing outside? I has not got any pocket money after all!
"Hey there mister and miss! Can I treat you to my renown cotton candy?" Says a fat and fatherly looking man in an apron. His thick brown mustache just make him just ooze of friendliness towards me.
Before I can react Terion slams down the two coins onto the vendor cart counter and says: "Two cotton candies!" The vendor just laughs and then winks towards him. Do they know each other? The man then pulls one thin wooden stick and puts it into a glassy orb with white grains at the bottom. As soon as it was in he cast a spell with his other hand. Which made the sweet toasty smell come back, but even stronger this time. White strands could be seen enveloping the stick.
"So Terion how''s it going at your apprenticeship?" Suddenly asks the man as the stick is becoming fluffier. My eyes fixates at it. It has been such a long time since I last had something sweet!
"My master says I got potential. He told me I need to get the hang of hammerin'' better." Answers Terion in a familiar manner.
"Oh? Just like any trade out there. Technique and skill is everything. Take cotton candy for example." The stick is now surrounded by a fluffy white cloud half the size of his hand. He continues after a brief inspection of it. "Anyone can learn how to make it. But without the proper skill you will end up cotton candy which is not as fluffy or use too many materials. And without the proper technique you will end up scorching it, which makes it inedible."
Terion seems to be awfully quiet before talking again. "So it is my technique I need to improve then?"
"You catch on quick." Says the vendor as he hands the stick of cotton candy in front of my face. I look up in anticipation before I grab it with both my hands. "Hahaha, you sure found a nice looking missy, Terion." I then hear coughing from Terion.
"Uhm, eh, she is nice friend of mine." Terion quickly retorts with and the vendor just laughs and starts making a second cotton candy.
As I take my first bite out of the cotton candy I am delighted in how the fluffy cotton dissolves in my mouth. It releases the taste of toasted sugar which is truly divine and I could not help but to moan in delight. It nearly brought a tear to my eyes. It is nearly as good as cake!
"Mhmm, I see, boy. Do not just forget to find a wife." Say the vendor as he laughs. I look at Terion and I can see how his whole face is red. I tilt my head to the left while slowly eating my cotton candy. What is he so red about?
"Eh, I will. Sooo... How is the fair?"
"Great for business. I had customers which rewards their children with cotton candy for finding their aptitudes! Not like I protest at such developments."
"Actually! Biali is here to test her aptitudes. So I thought of giving her a lil'' treat!" Says Terion as he grabs me by shoulders. The vendor then raises both of his eyebrows and motions with his elbow towards Terion.
"Be sure to give her a treat in the future too, aye?" He then starts laughing again and as I look up at Terion again it is like he is trying to hide behind me. I look back at the vendor again.
"Huh?" I say with my tongue still attached to the cotton candy.
Terion finally gets his cotton candy, and once he took it he just waved him goodbye and dragged me to the fountain in the center of the plaza. Luckily there was a free spot for us to sit at. The mist from the fountain hitting the skin felt wonderful in the blazing heat of the sun.
"I wish this day could go on forever." I said contently to myself while eating. Moments like these are to be treasured. I may lose everything I got at any moment. Might as well live like I mean it every waking second. I then look over to Terion, there is a thing I has been meaning to ask him for a very long time.
"Terion, do you know why your eyes have a golden color?" I ask him while looking into his eyes. He looks like he is in thought for a moment before looking at me again.
"I dunno''. I sure as heck has not seen anyone else with eyes like mine ''round here." He then tears out a big piece of cotton candy and puts it in his mouth.
"That would make you pretty special around here then." I say and shrug before biting into the cotton candy around again.
"Ya know, I never tried my magic aptitude test here."
"Why?"
"Never had an interest in it."
"Why do you bring up magic all of a sudden?" I stop eating the cotton candy and looks at Terion in confusion.
"I can''t kick off my feelin'' that something stirs within ya''. Ya'' know?" Terion then gazes off into the distance.
"And what does this has to do with magic?" He then looks at me again.
"I feel something stirring within me too." I then look at my hand which is not holding the mostly eaten cotton candy stick. This reminds me of how I felt before I got my magic lessons. The teacher cast different spells in order to see how I reacted to them. In the end I showed great affinity for dark magic, meanwhile the other types I just got average affinity for.
"[Candlelight]" I chant and snap my fingers and show the dim light to Terion. He looks with awe at me and touches the light with his right hands index finger. In response I can see how his body reacts very positively to it. Do Terion have great affinity for light magic?Unauthorized usage: this narrative is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings.
"Maybe your intuition is correct..." I mutter as I snuff the light. I look at Terion dead seriously and starts tutoring him. "You clearly got aptitude for magic, but you never bothered getting it checked!?" He looks chocked and I just sigh. You could had got a much better life you dolt!
I then put down my cotton candy and drags Terion by his hand towards the magic aptitude stations.
"H- Hey, Biali! What''s gotten into ya!?" He protests but I do not care. It is my time to repay him for supporting me. Just bear with it, will you!?
After a minute or two we finally arrived at the general magic aptitude test station. Along the way Terion eventually stopped protesting and just sighed.
The station itself was manned by two people. One beast man girl with cat ears and a human man with a funny hat on his head. The whole station was seated on a floor of planks and at it looked like a target range. In front of the station is a counter with a glassy orb on it. The man notices us first.
"Hello there children, are you here to test your aptitudes for general magic?" The hat wearing man says as he checks us up. When he looks at me, his face changes into one of deep thought.
"Actually we are, but Terion here has not got his aptitude checked!" I say as I gently push Terion forwards the orb on the counter.
"I see, miss. Well, well, put your one of your hands on the orb first, Terion.
Do not worry, all it will do is to check your affinity for magic in general." Says the man. Terion just shrugs and puts his hand onto the orb.
As he does I can sense how his body reacts to the orb. I put my own hand in front for comparison and sense my own magic too. Terion is bright like the sun compared to mine which is as black as the abyss of the sea. What can this mean?
"Huh? Interesting." I mutter as I pull down my hand and look at Terion again.
"Terion, you got average affinity for generalist magic. The orb detected on the other hand great spikes in other affinities, so please check out the other stations.
Okay, now that your affinity is checked, we will check your aptitude for generalist magic. We will teach you a simple spell, for which you can hit the target in the firing range." The funny hatted man rambled on before finally teaching him the spell.
The way the spell works is that it works more on imagination rather than memorizing every detail of it in memory. Would be like cooking food without a recipe. It may either end up tasty or end up burnt!

Force needle
School\Affinity: Evocation\None
Base Cost: 1
Conjures a needle of pure force which is then flung at the target. Its damage is highly limited and at best can be used for distraction. The spell is simple enough to be used without any training.

After a little testing, Terion finally got the hang of the [Force needle] spell. With a chant and hammering motion, he blasted the target at the end of the firing range off the shelf. I ended up cheering and clapping for him.
"Awesome Terion!" He looks back at me with a grin. Now just to get him test the other stations! But before we could leave, I needed to test my aptitude as well. Oh well, should be easy enough.
"Do you need me to repeat what I said to Terion, miss..?" The man in the station said and I simply responded with: "Biali, and no."
"Okay then. If you need me to teach you the spell, just tell me. Otherwise feel free to hit the target over there-" Before he could finish I chanted [Force needle] and accidentally poured too much magical power into it.
As I snapped my fingers the needle punched right through the target and made the metal wall behind reverberate from the excessive force. Afterward the target started cracking and falling apart.
"Oops..." I say as I stare at the mayhem I caused. After a few seconds the girl which until now has been quiet started making noise.
"Mjaaa! Not again!?" She cries out as she looks at my piece of work. Then she takes out a notebook and scribble something into it.
"Again?" I ask her.
"You are the fourth tester to destroy the target! We are not made out of money!" She then shrugs and replaces the broken target. The man then looks at me and coughs.
"Uhm, you passed." He then leans close to me and whispers: "You need to work on your magic control though. Keep that in mind." I just nod and looks back Terion which looks highly amused from this spectacle.
"Let''s go to the light aptitude magic station, Terion." I say before dragging him off.
The premise was similar at the light magic aptitude station. At the station stand two women in priestly clothing.
"Hello, we want to test our aptitudes for light magic!" I say to the two women who has distant looking eyes. They snap out of whatever they were doing the moment I spoke.
"O- Ok- ay." Stutters the woman closest to us. "I wi- will t- teach you a sp- spell!" I wonder why she is stuttering so much? She must have her reasons. The spell she teach us is an even weaker version of [Candlelight], but it is aligned to the light affinity instead.

Flicker
School\Affinity: Generalist\Light
Base Cost: 1
Conjures a short lived flicker of light. The spell is simple enough to be used without any training.
|
"[Flicker]" Chants Terion and for a moment an extremely bright light appears from his hand. It is bright enough for me to having put my hand in front of my eyes in order to not get blinded. So that is what it was, when I sensed his overly bright magic inside him.
"By the goddess..." Says the other woman which until now just had spectated. Her eyes then opens wider as she looks into Terion''s golden eyes. "...we got one of the divine kin among us!" I am so confused now.
As I stand there contemplating of what Terion actually is he pats my shoulder and smiles. "Oi'', your turn now, Biali!"
"Okay..." I quietly say before I chant: "[Flicker]" and with a snap a light appears...
The light is at first extremely dim but then it flares up into a corruption of itself and becomes a very bright black light! The two women just looks on in horror at what just transpired.

Eldritch flicker

Conjures a short lived flicker of eldritch light. The spell is simple enough to be used without any training.

"This can''t be good." I quietly say as I look at Terion who looks as if he can''t understand what I am saying. The two women now are talking between each other but before I can start listening, Terion quietly drags me away.
He drags me all the way to an alley near the aptitude test fair. Before he starts talking he looks if anyone are listening. I can see sweat all over him and his breathing is faster.
"Damn it! Those religious crazies!" Says Terion as he holds me by arms. "Divine kin? Hogwash! I am me; Terion!"
He then leans next to a house wall and looks at me.
"Did ya'' hear what they called ya?" I shake my head and he continues talking. "They called ya'' the devil!" He slams the wall with his fist and looks visibly upset.
I sigh and sits down on my knees. I simply stare down into the stony ground. I can''t even refute that claim.
"What should I do?" I say while feeling incredibly conflicted. Terion then looks at me with confusion.
"What do ya'' mean?"
"Remember the story I told back at the church a month back?"
"...yes?" I look up at him and feel how my eyes become moist. I do not want to lose Terion. He is my best friend here.
"I only told half the truth in it." He blinks and then sits next to me. I then continue: "The whole truth is uglier." He looks down and is deep in thought.
"Biali, you is my best friend, and ya know it. If I can''t accept ya'' for who ya'' are then I am a shitty friend!" He says as he looks into my eyes. I do not think he is fully comprehending the situation.
I put my hands around his right hand and do a long sigh.
"Okay then. What you will hear now is the whole truth. You are the only one I can trust with my life in this damned city after all."
"I am born in Ypterra, and my father is Raal''tara''goto Doombringer. And my full name is Be''ial''ale Doombringer. The names won''t make any sense for you, because my father is known by his other name more: The Supreme Evil.
I got the blood of the supreme evil inside me. Devil? Close, the only devil blood I got is from my mother." I say to Terion who is looking like he is having a hard time believing me.
"Terion, before you say: I do not believe you.
Do you not think it is unusual that a child comes out of a dungeon in the middle of the city a few days after the damnable heroes failed the raid against The Supreme Evil? Hmmmm?" I continue with and tilt my head while looking at him.
"I was the reason the raid failed. I figured it out myself after I put what I learned from the church together with my Nemesis of Heroes title which I gained in my early childhood.
The heroes fell one by one as their divine protections failed to protect them against my fathers instant death magic. The mere presence of me stops divine protections from working." As I finish saying it I look down at the ground again.
"If it wasn''t for that damn Mystia I would not be here! I would instead have a tea party with my friends!" I feel how my anger fills my whole body and I punch the ground which gets more and more scorched with each hit. Suddenly I feel a hug and all my anger dissipates.
"You had it hard, Biali." Says Terion which now suddenly dropped his accent. I hug him back and start sobbing. I feel a comforting warmth being emitted from him as I am in his embrace.
"All I wanted was to be with my mommy and daddy..."
"Who did this?" He asks while sounding shaken.
"The heroes... My whole life has been miserable because of them... I hate them..."
"Heroes..." I feel him tighten his grip around me, and then he looks behind himself.
The sound of footsteps echoing from the street can then be heard.
Chapter 25: Confrontations

The sound of hands clapping can be heard as the footsteps come closer until it stops a short distance from us. Terion pulled me away and I could finally see whom the culprit is.
In front of me can I see two people dressed in mismatching sets of armor and on their backs they wear enormous two-handed swords. The one closest to us is a man with golden eyes just like Terion and behind him is a red headed woman with braids and a rather large chest.
"So this is where the rat went. You made quite the show out there." Says the man while grinning. His eyes feel like they are piercing me as he scans me thoroughly. The woman then steps beside him and points at Terion.
"Terion, this has nothing to do with you. Step aside." The woman says with a huge amount of disgust in her voice. This only makes Terion step in front of me more. The man then looks at the woman and scoffs. How did she know his name?
"Tsk, last chance brat. Hand over Be''ial''ale. A certain guild pays well for her head." His expression then turns into one pure evil. Maybe I was wrong about humans again... Terion then leans back and whispers into my ear.
"Once I cast my spell, let''s run like hell behind them." I just nod and then the man in front of us gets more agitated and unsheathes his sword.
"Oi, move the hell out of the way! Stop protecting that devil!" He readies his sword as if getting ready to slash. Terion then grins.
"Close your eyes! [Flicker]" Cries Terion out and immediately chants his spell. As I close my eyes, he suddenly grabs me and starts running.
"What the hell!? I can''t see shit!" Yells the man as he is trying to find us. The woman then bumps into the man and both of them fall into a neat pile together. Just stay there, you trash!
As we enter the street, the two attackers are still screaming bloody murder. We weave seamlessly back into the aptitude test fair crowd in the plaza, and after a few minutes rejoin with Nana and Khan.
We saw an unknown person talking with them as we arrived. It was a woman completely clothed in black from head to toe. Aside from her otherwise plain and flat appearance, her most defining feature was her red eyes in her beautiful pale face and long pointy ears. When we came close she immediately snapped her eyes onto me.
"How long has this Biali been in your care Nana Weatherhorn?" Ask the mysterious woman.
"For about a month. Why?" Says Nana.
"Ah, just curious about her... History." Says the woman while giving off a playful smile.
"Miss Sangiris, I do not understand why you are interested in Biali."
"I noticed... Her talents here at this fair." Nana looks confused.
"Talents?"
"Biali caused quite the commotion with those idiot sisters at the light aptitude station." Nana then just blinks and Sangiris continues talking: "She got talents I wish to... Nurture." Sangiris then grins and waves at me to come over.
Terion and me looks at each other first, but then I obediently come over. Sangiris inspects me thoroughly while caressing her chin with her left hand. Her left leg covered with fine black fish net stocking is clearly visible during the entire time as if she is intentionally exposing it.
"Mmm, Biali will make a fine apprentice." Says Sangiris as both of her eyebrows and rise up and a broad smile appears. She then looks at the street from which we escaped and see those idiots who tried to kill us earlier come out.
"Nana, if you do not mind. I want to borrow Biali for a while."
"...I do not mind as long as its okay for Biali. Just make sure she gets back home in time for dinner." Sangiris then looks at me again.
"Actually, I am thinking of borrowing her for a longer time. What do you think about living with me during your apprenticeship, Biali?" The two idiots in the distance are now wading through the crowd looking for us.
Why the rush? Is it because of those idiots chasing us? I wanted to learn more about magic anyway, so deal! I quickly nod as I look at Sangiris. She then grins and chants something undecipherable, and I can see how everything around me and Terion becomes blurry.
At this point our attackers came to us with their weapons drawn, but they could not see me at all. Must be whatever spell Sangiris cast at us. They look visibly angered.
"The rat went this way! Where is that devil!?" Shouts the man near us. Sangiris and Khan does not look impressed at all.
Who is this man anyway?
|
Query: Who is this man?
Answer: A Player. Use an Appraisal skill, ability or spell to get more information.
|
Player? I think I has heard that word before. But from where? The man then in his anger looks accusingly at Sangiris. Why does he suspect her of anything?
"You! Yes, you! Dark magic trainer, where did this Be''ial''ale monster go!?" Sangiris just looks at him blankly. Barely even blinking. This infuriates the man further.
"Man, these NPCs are stupid! So much for realism!?" Yells the man and in his fury over losing his prey makes a wide arcing kick with his right leg which with sheer luck for him hits me in the shoulder with a crunch through the camouflage. I yelp in pain and roll on the stone paving until I smack into Khan''s legs.

The pain is nearly unbearable and I feel how I start tearing up. Khan which see me in this state of pain below his knees immediately becomes agitated and roars at the attacking man. The man on the other hands looks happy and puts his sword above his head with blood lust in his eyes.
"There is the little devil!" Cries the man out as he leaps above me and strikes down with his sword.
The sound of metal clanging is heard across the plaza and the festive mood drops instantly. All around us can I see how people stare in silence as Khan keeps his axe just mere centimeters above my chest. Metal against metal are locked against each other as the would be murderer looks in disbelief at what happened.
Khan growls before headbutting my attacker which then staggers backwards.
"Goddamn lion!" Swears the man as he looks at Khan. Khan just walks in front of me while holding his axe defensively.
"You hurt the little one!" Growls Khan at the attacker.
"You will pay for this!" Says the man and shakes his head before readying his sword for another attack. The woman with him readies hers for a stab.
"Tsk, I thought we could avoid this. But looks like we have to go." Says Sangiris as she picks me up by the neck of my robe. I look up in panic at her.
"Once we has turned this lion into a rug, let''s teach this boy not to mess with us." Says the woman in a sadistic and cruel tone. A look of sadistic delight is in her face. I then look at Terion in panic as he looks back at me in disbelief.
As I reach out toward Terion I can see how the man and woman attacks Khan, but then everything fades into darkness. I am in the darkness for a few seconds before it starts unraveling which shows a cellar room filled with lots of magical looking machines.
I feel how my feet are dragged along the floor and the ache from my shoulder keeps reminding me that I am still alive after this incident. I hear how Sangiris is humming as she drags me along. Then she sighs as she stops by a door. She opens the door with a light kick from her right foot.
Inside the room she drops me off at the only bed there and rummages through a nearby metal drawer. She hums on a song and sighs with a disappointed tone the further she get her pale hands inside it. All this time can I feel how my right shoulder aches from my injury.
Suddenly do I hear the sound of glass bumping into other glass and she looks face me with a bottle containing a grainy liquid inside. Sangiris looks pretty happy about her find.
"Count yourself lucky Biali, this was the only potion I had left since my adventuring days.
Now drink it so I can fix that shoulder of yours." She says as she uncorks the bottle and hands it to me. I obediently drink that sweet and bitter smelling liquid. As the liquid makes it down my throat I feel the urge to gag, but I resist it as good as I can.
Without telling me she grabs my right arm and shoulder, then with a snapping motion is my arm properly inside its socket again in my shoulder. Strangely, I did not feel any pain at all, and within seconds I felt how my vitality returned to how it was this morning.
"Whatever you gave me, it works." I say with a somewhat more happier tone to Sangiris. Then I look into her eyes. "I hope Terion is okay..."
Sangiris puts her arms together and looks thoughtful for a second, and then summons a translucent ball with dark smoke ''falling down'' around it into her right hand. She has a confident smile as her eyes glow red as she starts talking with me again.
"Oh, do not worry.
Terion is doing relatively fine. Just covered in the blood of someone else.
Too bad about Khan though. It looks like that oversized cat took quite a deep cut across his torso.
By some miracle is Khan still alive now. Must be that Nana person which looks devastated as she is draining her magical powers from casting healing spells. Tsk."
Through the translucent ball can I watch the aftermath of the incident. I cover my mouth as I see the sorry state Khan is in. If it wasn''t for him I would be dead now...
"Whatever. You are my apprentice now Biali. Regardless of whether those two idiotic heroes went on a rampage trying to murder upstanding citizens." She then close her right hand and the ball goes up into smoke. Her eyes then focuses on me.
"Damn heroes..." I say with all my scorn in the voice. Sangiris just bites her lower lip before talking.
"Damn heroes indeed. You know how hard it has been to find an apprentice? Ever since those heroes emerged, the number of apprentice applicants plummeted to the bottom! Must be that damn goddess''s doing."
"Goddess?" I curiously ask her. I knew a bit about gods from the church school, but is it a different goddess?
"Helen the goddess of Life. She hates anything to do with darkness. Not even dark magic goes unmolested by her, and her followers.
The heroes is her doing. And those two idiots at the plaza of heroes are her doing as well. Those idiot sisters at the light magic aptitude test station must had ratted you out." Sangiris looked to the side and spit out in disgust.
"I only got to learn about dark magic... My dad said to me that it was what we was best at." I see how Sangiris slowly looks at me and then tilts her head to the left. It feels like her eyes almost look completely through me now.
"Who is your daddy?"
"Ralto." Sangiris then grimaces a bit.
"Do not tell me his nickname, but his full name."
How did she know!?
"Ehm, uhm... Raal''tara''goto." Sangiris jaw then falls down onto floor.
"Well, I thought your aura was abnormal, but this confirms it!"
What conclusions are you getting at? She coughs and then points at me.
"You are the Supreme Evils daughter!" My eyes flares up in surprise that she found me out. Sangiris then laughs and looks incredibly pleased before bowing respectfully to me.
"H- How do you think I am that?"
"Everything adds up! The theories I has made ever since that doomed raid was started by those damnable heroes a month back!
The utter failure of the raid for starters. Despite their whole raiding group being blessed they all died from an instant death spell which only the Supreme Evil himself is able to channel and cast! There was reports of a certain low level monster being present, and well. You certainly fits the bill for that.
Second is you. Small curved black horns, a tail which you are bad at hiding, abnormal magical aura which just oozes of dark magic, blonde hair and tanned skin. On top of that is your beauty truly something to be envious of. Must be that succubi blood you got in your veins... Perfectly fits the report!
Third is that I saw how your aura utterly rejected the light magic you attempted cast at the aptitude test fair. No mere dark mage is able to have a reaction that bad. Even I can cast light magic without any reaction. Shame that it caused such a ruckus. It really ruined the festive mood. Tsk."
I just tilted my head and blinked the whole time under Sangiris explanation. Either she is very smart or she got a fantastic fantasy. What should I do now that I got found out? Sangiris quickly answered that question for me as she sat next to me in bed.
"Now that you are my apprentice, the daughter of the Supreme Evil himself none the less, I will do my best to teach you what I can. At least until the heroes catch a whiff of that you are here..."
"Why do you want to help me despite knowing who I am?" Sangiris expression sours.
"You know. I did not always look like this." She then grabs both of her floppy ears.
"See these? Now look at my eyes. Then look at my skin." Sangiris lets off her ears which wobble and raises both of her eyebrows while sarcastically smiling.
I can certainly see that she looks like an elf, but I has never seen an elf like this before.
"You are a pale elf?"
"Wrong! Well, not completely wrong. Take a look at these!" Says Sangiris before letting me have a real good look up close at her teeth. Where her canine teeth are can I see fangs which overlap each other! I scratch my head and guess again.
"Are you a demon?" Sangiris gives me a look of disappointment as she cross her arms.
"Did you ever get to learn about curses back home? Oh never mind, enough games!
I got cursed by that damned goddess Helen, may she burn in the deepest layer of The Eleven Hells forever! Tsk.
The vampirism curse I got afflicted by after recovering an artifact somewhere used to be a lot worse. But I managed to counteract the worst parts of it. Like getting turned into ash by being exposed to sun and requiring to feast on blood every day.
In short; I got plenty of reasons to help you!" She raises up both her hands into the air and then jumps off the bed.
"Okay... I will take any help to fight back the heroes then."
"Great! Let''s start your education tomorrow!" Sangiris cheers as she walks out of the room.
"Could be worse..." I mutter to myself. I hope Terion is safe.

It has now been two weeks since the trail of Be''ial''ale became hot again in the city of Resildur after the incidence at the aptitude test fair. In the corner booth of the local adventurers guild in the merchants district sit a man with golden eyes wearing a shining set of armor in deep thought.
The smell of leather and sweat is overwhelming in the guild and the loud chatter does not the man pay any heed to. He just sits there leaning over a heavily ornate book with a contemplating look.
"...but how?" Says the man as he have his one free hand touching the book.
On the left page is an artists rendition of Be''ial''ale meanwhile on the other side are all collected clues about her whereabouts and known information. Right now is the man pointing his finger at the area where a certain word is written: "Trainer"If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement.
It takes a few seconds and he then sighs and looks up at the crowd in the guild.
"Makes me envious." Grumbles he to himself until he catches a familiar sight at the entrance. A female looking mage in a matching set of high end armor walks towards him and hails him.
"Lance, why do you still chase after this Be''ial''ale monster?" Says the woman as she sits next to him in the booth. She leans on her arm as she looks into his eyes. Lance scoffs before he talks.
"I can''t let this monster become a variable again in the upcoming raid." He then points at the "Trainer" word again at the book before he continues talking. "Dark magic trainer NPC. Last seen with Be''ial''ale before the monster disappeared again."
The woman starts giggling while Lance is not amused at all. She then grabs Lance by his arm.
"Oh you are really going there again? Everyone knows that the NPCs can''t act outside their scripted interactions. Anything lifelike you see is just an illusion.
You are either becoming senile or you truly think this game is real life." Lance gives her the stink eye and takes off her hand from him.
"Mystia you are truly stupid! Ironic that you picked wizard as your starting class.
If we do not take care of this Be''ial''ale monster now, it will to come bite us in the ass later! This abnormal NPC does not make any rational sense!" Lance slams down his fist at the table while looking dead serious into the eyes of Mystia.
"Take a chill pill Lance." Mystia rolls her eyes as she responds to Lance''s accusations.
"Don''t say you did not notice the status effect we got as that monster entered the throne room!?
Nemesis of Heroes title, nullified our blessings!
Supreme Evil''s Daughter title, does not make any sense. Why? Because the game never said that the last raid boss had a daughter!" Lance did not cool down at all and just continued his verbal barrage at Mystia. She just looked at him as if he was drooling idiot.
"Why are you like this? Do you hate surprises? The games do not have to advertise every little thing.
Also I am getting sick of you insulting me. I don''t have to take your shit." Says Mystia before leaving the table in a huff. Lance do not look amused at all as his attention is put towards the book again.
"I wonder why those idiots attacked the monster without contacting me first? I could had killed that monster in one blow!" He grits his teeth as he talks to himself. Lance then smiles.
"At least they died and was forced to respawn. Not to mention clearing their names after attacking a citizen unprovoked."
Lance goes into deep thought again until a potential lead finally comes to mind. He looks up at the ceiling as if a great revelation was just made.
"That Terion boy seemed awfully friendly with Be''ial''ale according to them..." Lance closes the book and puts it in his inventory before heading outside.
"...it''s not Sunday, but it will do." Says Lance while making a evil grin.
Chapter 27: Gearing up and Magic 101
"Ahhh..." I utter in joy as I move the hot cup away from my mouth. I smile as this is the first cup of tea I has had in two months now. The sweet flowery vanilla flavored black tea put me in a good mood. Yet it feels like I am missing something. A void that is ever present in my heart. Not even being able to drink tea again is able to shake that feeling away...
It has now been one month since Sangiris took me in, and I has not been allowed to go outside. As a consequence I has not been able to meet with Terion, Khan and Nana. But she assures me that they are all okay. Because she must still run her business as a trainer outside, she gets in touch with people I know.
I am now sitting in the laboratory looking room sipping tea while I am browsing my grimoire which I got as a gift from Sangiris. It was not the only gift I got either! She bought me basic adventuring gear and an outfit which is close enough to my ideal. Brown leather pants, black corset which fits snugly over a white shirt and a green cloak with white trims.

Common witch grimoire
Levels: Novice, Journeyman & Intermediate
Affinities: Dark, Nature, None
A black book filled various magic spells fit for a witch or dark mage. It got a gilded symbol of a basilisk on the cover.

Sangiris says I am getting very close to understanding journeyman magic! This is great because I need power in order to fight back! My excitement levels are at an all high. With the help of this grimoire I am sure I will have the power turn the tides of battle to my favor.
For starters the regular dark bolt spell is a vast improvement. Why? Because it explodes! Then the shadow step spell looks great for avoiding death coming my way. I feel it would take me months to learn even half of the journeyman level spells here. Magic sure is complicated...
As I just sit there I suddenly see and hear, quite loudly I say. Sangiris barging into the room with a sack behind her shoulders. This surprised me so much that I spilled out some of the precious tea from my cup.
Being unapologetic as usual Sangiris put the sack onto the table and looked at me while grinning like mad. What is she up to now? Ever since I became her apprentice I learned that she got quite a few... Special. Quirks.
"Guess what I found!" Sangiris is now rapidly flicking her eyebrows up and down. I poke the sack and feel it is filled with both hard and soft stuff. No idea what that can be.
"No idea. Did you buy junk again?" I give her a skeptical look. She just rolls her eyes and opens up the sack with both of her hands while muttering: "You are no fun..."
What she unravels makes me very curious. On top of a pile of clothes and other miscellaneous junk lies a black pointy hat which would be enough to cover my whole head and even my shoulders. Wrapped around the base of the hat is a red ribbon with a golden emblem on it. Before I can reach out to touch the hat, so has Sangiris already picked it up.Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on Royal Road.
"You call this junk? I found this at the second hand sale at the market. This hat is fashionable and will look cute on you!"
"Is this a witch hat? Looks like one from the fairy tales my parents used to read for me." Sangiris bites her lip and looks at the hat first, then at me.
"Sort of. Used to be fashionable for wizards and mages to wear three hundred or so years ago. Now are circlets all the rage!
But hey! I got it for cheap and you will look adorable in it." She puts the hat on me and then looks incredibly pleased with herself.

Wide brimmed pointy hat

Armor Class: Clothing
Defense: 1
A simple hat made out of leather and linen. It is great for adventuring because it keeps the elements off the wearer extremely well.
|
Am I a doll or what? Oh well, beats wearing that robe I got from the church and the now ruined nightgown. I will make a mental note to find something more fashionable once I can...
"Thanks Sangiris..." I say while looking out from under my oversized hat. It looks like Sangiris is now melting. Was my cuteness too much for to handle?
"Oh do not mention it~ Looking fashionable is important while performing magic!" Says Sangiris while she waves her body side to side. Then her whole behavior turns serious in an instant. She corrects her spectacles which I only now noticed she wore and starts talking.
"You are very close to your breakthrough into journeyman level dark and general magic!
As part of your training you will also need to improve your mana absorption and refining. Probably the hardest part of a magicians training. But with your talents you will soon get to the next level.
I foresee that you will achieve all this within one week."
She sure got high expectations of me. But then I pushed pretty hard with my studies and training too! It is strangely came very easy for me to learn new stuff. What should had took half of a year, is now just taking a mere month.
Like when I was a kid my teachers always ran out of things for me to learn. At least when I was actually interested in it. Explains why I never paid much attention to history. Would had been useful now in my situation... I can''t see the future, okay!?
I finished drinking my tea and then I hopped off the chair which made my hat jiggle back and forth like mad. Magic practice time!
It took the entire week for me to finally get how journeyman level magic works. Unlike how the novice level magic worked, it demands a lot more from the spell caster!

For starters do you need to formulate a sequence of symbols in your mind. Unlike novice magic which only requires you to imagine what needs to happen, so is journeyman magic a completely different league on its own. The symbols themselves can be whatever you want, but the important thing is that you can form a meaning with them.
For example so can one symbol be what you imagine to be an arrow, meanwhile another the concept of acid, and if you combine them you get an acid arrow which just drops to the ground if you attempt to cast it. Why would it fall down? You never gave it a symbol which made it go anywhere!
On the surface this system may seem needlessly complicated compared to novice magic, but when fully understood you can do some really crazy stuff! The lesser dark bolt which is simple enough to be imagine can be turned into a truly destructive spell!
A bolt symbol, a dark element concept symbol, a rapid expansion symbol and finally a symbol for self propulsion and you got a [Dark bolt] spell. Takes a little longer to chant and imagine, but with the help of a grimoire you can just look it up and becomes a lot easier to cast.
Sangiris told me a little bit of the next level of magic which is for adepts only. She told me that performing that magic is even more complicated! It combines what i learned from my journeyman level with spell triggers in my head and material spell components. Sounds helluva confusing to me!
This month has been quite eventful, and I has even been able to drink tea again. Life is looking up again!
