《Avalon》
Entering Avalon
Avalon, a role-playing game based off of the Arthurian Legend. Not much is known of the game systems, and any beta testing has been kept secretive; however, anyone who has tested it has said it is an experience that cannot be forgotten. Due to all of comments from testers, including some famous players, it had become the most anticipated game of the century. Luckily I was able to get a copy of it. It took all of my savings, and even some of my parents savings to afford the equipment and the game, but I don¡¯t regret any of it.
Wooden stairs creaked as I headed up to my room to play the game.
¡°How could you lend him the money for this?. You¡¯re always to easy on him!¡± Screams were heard from my parent¡¯s room. I could tell my father was angry at my mother for lending me me the money for the game, even if I promised to pay it back. Continuing down the hallway, light shined through a cracked open door. My little sister was talking to her friends on her phone. She was always so outgoing and friendly, unlike myself. When we were young, she was my cute little sister who looked up to me, but now¡
¡°Ugh, what are you doing looking in here, go play on your computer or something.¡±
She thinks I¡¯m just some worthless freeloader. We haven¡¯t been close for years, but she¡¯s still my little sister.
¡°Come on and get to bed, it¡¯s late, you have school tomorrow.¡±
¡°Fine, Sorry Sherry, I have to go, my disgusting brother is nagging me about going to bed. Yeah, that¡¯s right he¡¯s just a loser.
The door slammed in my face. It¡¯s obvious she doesn¡¯t want to talk to me anymore. Finally I¡¯m in my room, ready to play Avalon. I get into my brand new, well used, virtual reality pod, and close the lid. As it closed, a sudden pain was felt racing through my head. Then everything was dark.
Jolted awake by a sudden shaking of my shoulder, I spring up to notice a large bald man sitting there with a scar on his face, and rather well groomed beard on his face, despite his menacing appearance. The murmurs of people around my penetrated my ear drums, their eyes piercing into me like daggers. What an odd start to a video game.
¡°Hey are you alright? You were knocked-out after you came through the gate, you must be a user.¡±
The voice of the man was rough and deep, like that of an experienced warrior.
¡°Yes, I¡¯m alright.¡±
¡°Well, that¡¯s good to hear, my name is Gilroy. May I ask why you came to the City of Jultem?¡±
Ah, this must be some sort of tutorial NPC. Perhaps this is how I choose my class. From what little the beta testers had leaked though, there seemed to be a fairly open-ended class system if any. Though maybe I¡¯ll receive some sort of bonus depending on my answer.
¡°I am Garoth, a magic swordsman. I¡¯ve come to slay powerful beasts and demons!¡±
¡°Hooooo. A magical swordsman huh? That¡¯s quite an interesting power you have there. Well, if it¡¯s true you¡¯re here to slay powerful beasts and demons, then you must be part of the adventurer¡¯s guild, may I see your guild card?¡±
Adventurer¡¯s guild huh? I¡¯ve read about this in stories and experienced it a few times in many games, however I won¡¯t have any sort of guild. But he seems to think I must be an adventurer. If I tell him that I¡¯ve remained independent from joining the adventurers guild, there¡¯s a chance I can get away without being in it.
¡°Up until now, I¡¯ve refrained from joining the adventurer¡¯s guild as I don¡¯t like to be restricted. However, I¡¯ve noticed limitations without the backing or knowledge of the adventurer¡¯s guild, I would like to apply here. May I ask where the guild is?¡±
¡°I see. Well the guild is always looking for new members, and if you¡¯re a user and a magical swordsman you¡¯ll be more than welcome. Come, I can show you to the adventurer¡¯s guild.¡±
Before I knew it the crowd around us had already dissipated. It must be some sort of system to have the players feel like they¡¯re unique compared to NPCs. Though I wonder why I haven¡¯t seen anyone yet? Maybe the tutorial is an instanced event? As I followed Gilroy through the streets of Jultem the banging of hammers, could be heard as we passed by dozens of blacksmiths. Sparks flew from anvils showering the stone pavement, making quite the unique sight.
¡°You don¡¯t seem to be very well equipped for a magic swordsman. Do you perhaps possess a magic bag?¡±
A magic bag? Oh! He must be referring to an inventory. It would probably break lore to refer to it as that, so this must be what they call it in the game. Taking a quick look at my inventory, it seems pretty bare bones, there¡¯s nothing in there aside from 10 silver coins. Though there seems to be slots for platinum gold and copper coins as well.
¡°Ah, yes. I do have a magic bag, but due to some circumstances I no longer have my equipment, all I have is few silver coins.¡±
¡°Hmm, I see. Hey, Cassius.¡±
As Gilroy called out, a short man with a huge braided beard turned around.
¡°A dwarf!¡±
¡°Oi, I have a name ye know. As Gilroy here just said, the names Cassius. Though, I don¡¯t be liking yer attitude.¡±
¡°My apologies, I just haven¡¯t seen many dwarfs, I was taken by surprise.¡±
¡°Haven¡¯t seen many dwarfs, eh? Ye must be from Camelot then.¡± Cassius scoffed.
¡°Regardless of where he¡¯s from, he¡¯s a user. He seems to have come across some misfortune, and needs some new equipment. I¡¯m taking him the guild right now, could you help him out later if I send him back?¡±
¡°Eh, I suppose so. But don¡¯t think I¡¯ll be taking any nonsense from ye.¡±You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author.
¡°Ah, of course. Again, I¡¯m sorry.¡±
Man dwarfs be pretty sensitive about the issue, I thought they were supposed to be a proud race?
¡°Sorry about that, Cassius is a bit sensitive when it comes to his race. He was kicked out of Nardwarf after all.¡±
¡°Nardwarf?¡±
Gilroy stared blankly at me.
¡°You really must be from Camelot. I¡¯ve heard they don¡¯t pay much attention to the outside world, but to think it was this bad. Nardwarf is the city of the dwarfs located in the Darkon Mountains. He was expelled from there many years ago, since then he has been here in Jultem. He may not seem like it, but he¡¯s a good guy, he helps many of the adventurers here.¡±
Gilroy seems like quite the good person, despite his rough looks and daunting figure. He might be a noble of some sort. As we proceeded through the streets, a large building came into view, above the entrance was the image of a sword crossed over a round shield. This must be the guild. When we walked through the entrance, again all eyes looked in our direction¡ strange.
¡°Hey, Nia, help this boy here. He needs to be registered as a member.¡±
¡°What do you mean boy? I¡¯m 26.¡±
¡°Wahahaha. You? 26, that¡¯s a good one. You look more like you¡¯re 16, wahaha!¡±
What does he mean I look like I¡¯m 16? Now that I think of it I haven¡¯t even designed my character, does they game assign you a random avatar? In that case what do I look like?
¡°You don¡¯t happen to have a mirror do you?¡±
¡°Wahaha, still insisting on the joke are you? We don¡¯t have a mirror here, but you could look at your reflection in the fountain of town square next time you¡¯re there.¡±
¡°Ahem. Are you two finished? I thought I was supposed to be helping him join the guild. And haven¡¯t I told you to call me Nadia at work? Calling me by a nickname is unprofessional.¡±
Looking at Nadia, her right eye seemed to be twitching and her left eyebrow was raised. It seems like a vein could pop in her forehead any moment.
¡°Ha..ha. Yes, if you¡¯ll excuse me I have other business to attend to, please take care of him. Nadia, I leave Garoth here in your care.¡±
Gilroy laughed awkwardly and hurried off before I could respond. What kind of woman is this to have scared off such an imposing man?
¡°Sigh¡ He¡¯s always like that. I can¡¯t ever get him to act seriously. Anyways, my name is Nadia, it¡¯s a pleasure to meet you.¡±
She instantly turned from being angry to having a bright smile on her face, the transformation is amazing. Now that I think about it she is quite the beauty. Before I realized it I was simply staring at her face.
¡°Ah, yes. It¡¯s a pleasure to meet you too. My name is Garoth, I¡¯m here to sign up as an adventurer.¡±
¡°Sure. If you¡¯ll follow me we¡¯ll start the induction process. First I¡¯ll give you an overview of what the guild can provide, and what duties you¡¯ll be required to do for the guild, as well as rules and regulations. Then we¡¯ll take you to the Orb of Knowledge to create your guild card.¡±
¡°Orb of Knowledge? What¡¯s that?¡±
¡°Surely you jest? You don¡¯t know of the Orb of Knowledge?¡±
¡°Yeah... about that. I came from camelot so I¡¯m not sure about a lot of things around here.¡±
¡°Really? You came from Camelot!?¡±
¡°Yeah¡ why?¡±
¡°I¡¯ve read many stories of Arthur. He¡¯s always been my hero. It¡¯s why I became a receptionist at the adventurer¡¯s guild, I hope one day I might meet a new hero just like Arthur was. So what is it like there? Are there other heroes like Arthur? Or perhaps are there powerful wizards such as Merlin?¡±
¡°Uh.. uhm¡. Well I guess¡¡±
¡°Oh, sorry. How rude of me, we¡¯re supposed to be conducting your induction process.¡±
After that she explained to me what the Orb of Knowledge was. It is an orb that contains vast magical power, and is rumored to hold all knowledge of the world and it¡¯s residents. It was originally a gift god Mimir to assist the people in their evolution; however, he quickly realized this was a mistake as humans weren¡¯t capable of withstanding their greed and quickly began to abuse it¡¯s power. Thus, he put a limit on the orb. This limit would only provide minimal knowledge on the people of the world. This would allow people to have security and identification of one another. When you touch it an identification card will be created with your information on it. This guard can be used as identification anywhere you go, it can also tell others who you¡¯re associated with. In this case, I¡¯ll be associated with the adventurer¡¯s guild. Depending on your association, the color of the card will change, with the adventurer¡¯s guild card being black. The card will contain various personal information, but I can limit it to only show needed information to others, while other information will only be seen by me.
¡°So, that¡¯s the basics of the Orb of Knowledge. Now, onto the other information. First, the rules of the guild. In the adventurer¡¯s guild there are three major rules. One, information on guild members is secret and should be protected. Don¡¯t ask other guild members, and you don¡¯t have to respond when people ask. Two, any arguments between guild members will remain between them. The guild won¡¯t interfere with personal arguments. Three, always perform with professionalism on the job. We know many adventurer¡¯s can be a bit rough around the edges, but we ask that you at least keep minimum professionalism while on an assignment.¡±
¡°I see, so what happens if one guild member is causing an argument but the other is trying to avoid it. Will the guild step in then?¡±
¡°The guild will only step in when an obvious injustice has been committed. Now, onto jobs. There are four job classifications, and three types of jobs. The three classifications are standard, emergency, unrestricted, personal requests. Standard requests are your run of the mill quests that have a certain ranking assigned to them. Members with ranks within that range may participate, as well as those one rank above or below, though rewards may vary depending on rank. Emergency requests are jobs that everyone above a certain rank has to participate in. If you don¡¯t participate you will face punishment from dropping in rank, to being arrested depending on the circumstance. Unrestricted requests are requests that are available to anybody as they may require special skill sets not dependant on ability, or have been unable to be completed for a long period of time. Lastly, personal requests, are requests that come for an adventurer directly. These are often valued higher than normal requests and submitted by nobles and merchants.¡±
¡°So what are the types of jobs then?¡±
¡°There are escort, subjugation, and miscellaneous jobs. Escort jobs require you to escort someone, usually a merchant or noble, and protect them from any outside threats. Subjugation jobs are to kill or bring back parts of monsters or bandits. Miscellaneous jobs can be anything from helping build a house to gathering herbs in the forest, they won¡¯t include fighting monsters.¡±
After that she explained the ranks of the guild. The ranks go from G-S+ with G being those who aren¡¯t old enough to be adventurer¡¯s, but want a head start to help with miscellaneous tasks. S+ are known as heroes to the people, with all sorts of ranks in between. I¡¯ll start as rank F as I¡¯m old enough to join, but not yet experienced.
¡°Do you have any further questions?¡±
¡°No, I think I understand mostly for now.¡±
While there was quite a lot of information I¡¯m not quite sure on. It should be fine if I ask questions later.
¡°Come on. We¡¯ll take you to the Orb of Knowledge and get your guild card. Since it¡¯s the orb for the guild, it will automatically create your card with the affiliation of adventurer¡¯s guild.¡±
As we entered a small square room, there was a jade colored orb hovering above a large golden pedestal. A fog pulsated inside of the orb making it seem cloudy and vast. As I placed my hand on the orb, the fog swirled and the colors changed to a scarlet red. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Nadia with a shocked look on her face. After the process was over I looked down and there was an onyx colored card placed before me, I picked it up and looked at the status.

What kind of class is pupil? Could it be some sort of starting class that everyone gets? That would make sense based on the stats. I hope everyone doesn¡¯t have the same cookie-cutter class and skills. From what I¡¯ve read online about the wide array of possibilities from the class system, I expected something a little more.
¡°Um¡ Can I see your card to complete the registration?¡±
As I handed her the card, a blank look came across her face.
¡°...I-it says you¡¯re class is Pupil. The orb hasn¡¯t ever given incorrect information before, but... this must be a mistake. If you¡¯re the age of 16, you should already have advanced from pupil and gained a class.¡±
¡°If I may ask, what exactly is the pupil class?¡±
¡°...Pupil is a class gained by those at the age of 10, from then until their 15th birthday, they train and earn a variety of skills. On their 15th birthday, they can either visit a temple, or pray to Mimir to receive their true class. It¡¯s unheard of to go past your 15th birthday and not have received a new class. Maybe the guildmaster will have more information about this.¡±
When we arrived at the guildmaster¡¯s room, Nadia knocked twice on the door.
¡°Come in.¡±
¡°Excuse me.¡±
As we entered the room Gilroy was sitting at a desk doing paperwork.Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.
¡°You¡¯re the guildmaster?¡±
¡°What? Do I not look like a guildmaster to you?¡±
¡°Well¡ No? I thought you were an adventurer.¡±
¡°I used to be. Though I can still hold my own so don¡¯t you worry about that. Anyways, why did you bring him here Nia.¡±
¡°Nadia¡ sigh. There seems to be a bit of an issue guildmaster. Garoth here¡ well, it seems he never obtained a class after becoming a pupil.¡±
¡°Well that shouldn¡¯t be a problem, he¡¯ll just have to wait to join until he¡¯s old enough. And you tried to tell me you were 26, wahaha.¡±
¡°Well guildmaster, you see. He¡¯s actually 16 already, he¡¯s past the age of receiving his class.¡±
¡°WHAT!? Are you telling me he didn¡¯t receive a class when he came of age?¡±
¡°Yes, that seems to be the case. Do you have any idea what he can do?¡±
The guildmaster pondered on the issue for a while, pacing the room. A confused and anxious look was plastered across his face. When I think about it, the NPCs here seem pretty lifelike. This game must be pretty advanced but¡ The way he¡¯s thinking so hard about this, did I somehow obtain an unexpected class? Is there some sort of glitch?
¡°For now, go ahead and have him start guild activities. Hopefully as he does work for the guild he¡¯ll gain a class based on the skills he has.¡±
¡°Well, that may be a problem. He only has the learning skill all pupils start with.¡±
¡°YOU! I thought you were some magic swordsman. Yet you don¡¯t even have a class, or even any skills! Ugh. Give him some miscellaneous jobs, don¡¯t let him take any subjugation or escort missions. How can someone as incompetent as you be a user?¡±
It seems I¡¯ve made a mistake by proclaiming I¡¯m a magic swordsman. I hope this doesn¡¯t somehow affect my standing with the guild. With any luck however I can quickly obtain a class and rise in guild ranks.
¡°Yes guildmaster. Okay come with me Garoth.¡±
¡°Okay.¡±
When I first entered the guild it was rather empty, but now as it¡¯s later in the day adventurer¡¯s must have returned to turn in requests. This game really puts an emphasis on realism. It looks like my future prospects will still be good. Over there, there¡¯s a woman wearing robes wielding a large staff. And there, a man wearing plate armor with a large two-handed sword slung across his back. There¡¯s even someone with what looks to be an elemental fox hopping around him. It seems like there might be a decent variety of classes after all.
¡°I¡¯ll help you pick out your first job since you¡¯re new here. There¡¯s a few you might be able to handle. You can pick any one of these three.¡±
The first one that caught my eye was a request to mine crude iron from a nearby mine. Perhaps mining would help me raise my strength or even obtain a mining skill. While I don¡¯t plan on being a craftsman it could help me to get materials I need to get better weapons and armor in the future. The other requests are just to gather herbs, and help an old lady find her cat. I don¡¯t see how those would help me at all.
¡°Okay I¡¯ll take this one.¡±
¡°You¡¯ll have two days to complete this request. If you have any you can talk to the owner at Forgotten Furnace Smithy. You can deliver directly to him, or report to the guild and let us handle delivering the goods, however there will be a 5% cut in the reward to do so.¡±
Well that seems like an odd name for a blacksmith¡¯s shop, but why does it sound so familiar?
...Now I remember why it sounds familiar.
¡°Oi. If it isn¡¯t Mr. Camelot. What are ye here for? Some equipment for some big request?¡±
¡°N-not exactly haha¡ I¡¯m actually here to do your request to mine crude iron.¡±
¡°Why would ye, want to do a request like that? Yer a user right? Souldn¡¯t ye be doin¡¯ better work than minin¡¯?¡±
¡°W-well you see, I actually wanted to learn about materials myself. I figured if I learned about materials I would be able to better gather them for new equipment to be forged for myself.¡±
¡°Hoh? That¡¯s quite the interestin¡¯ idea ye got there. I like where yer head''s at. Alright, there¡¯s a small mine about 20 minutes walk to the north-east of here. It¡¯s not a big mine, and the ore you can find there ain¡¯t great. But. It¡¯s one of the only mines near here. The ore ain¡¯t the best but this ol¡¯ dwarf can refine it to be good as the best quality iron out there. Here¡¯s a minin¡¯ pass to get you into the mine. Now, all ye got to do is fill up this bag with ore from there. Though ye best be waitin¡¯ for tomorr¡¯w, it¡¯ll be too dark to head there soon.¡±
Well I guess I should logout and take a break now. Hmm¡ that¡¯s odd. I can¡¯t find a way to logout. Now that I think about it, I can only use my inventory, where is the rest of the interface? Maybe I have to logout at an inn? The lack of interface could be for immersion. I wonder if the skills are all action or thought based? Well I guess I¡¯ll head to an inn.
Arriving at White Horse Inn, I asked the guild master how much rent for a room would cost.
¡°Rent will cost you 2 silver coins per night. An extra silver coin will provide you with a meal and hot water.¡±
Hrmm.. I don¡¯t need to eat a meal, but it would be neat to experience eating in virtual reality for the first time.
¡°I¡¯ll take the meal as well.¡±
If inn¡¯s cost this much, silver must be fairly easy to get, especially with this starter mission, perhaps I¡¯ll get far more than 10 silver to get some equipment.
The smell of pepper and pork filled the air. In front of me was a large bowl of stew. It seems to be some sort of pork stew, perhaps with a bit too much black pepper. The bread seems a bit tough, but when I dip it in the stew it softens up quite a bit. !!! What is this? It tastes like I¡¯m eating it in real life. The flavor is quite good too, it tasks like pork, but almost a bit gamier. It¡¯s quite tender however, and the flavor matches well with the pepper. I wonder if all food in this game tastes as good as this?
A bed, table, and nightstand. Not the most furnished room, but at least the quality seems alright. There¡¯s a candle on the table for one to read or do work as well. The bed seems quite comfy. Though it doesn¡¯t compare to modern day mattresses, it¡¯s not uncomfortable. There might be ways to relax in the game. Alright, let¡¯s logout. Maybe I have to lie down and act like I¡¯m sleeping to logout? As my eyes grew heavy slowly I drifted to sleep. When I awoke and my eyes opened it wasn¡¯t what I expected.
First Encounter
When I awoke, I wasn¡¯t logged out as I had expected to be. I tried sending a message to the support team to no avail. Hopefully this is just some sort of bug to do with the tutorial being separate from the rest of the game. Although it is a bit worrisome nobody in my family has even tried to come and get me yet. Did they just forget about me while I was playing the game? Might as well at least finish the tutorial in an attempt to logout.
Before heading out to the mine it¡¯d be best to equip myself with some equipment for the job.
¡°Excuse me, Cassius?¡±
¡°Aye, watcha be needin¡¯? Oh it¡¯s just ye again.¡±
¡°I was hoping to buy some equipment for the job since I¡¯m a bit low on equipment for the moment.¡±
¡°Fine, what do ye be needin¡¯?¡±
¡°I could use a sword, some armor, and a pickaxe.¡±
¡°Aye, ye really are low on equipment.¡±
Cassius then looked me up and down as if evaluating me.
¡°How much ye be willin¡¯ to spend?¡±
¡°For now, I only have 8 silver to spend.¡±
¡°8 silver hmm. I¡¯ll see what I have for ye, give me a bit.¡±
After a few moments Cassius came out of the backroom carrying a set of equipment.
¡°For yer weapon I suggest going with a iron sword and shield. Lookin¡¯ at ye, you probably want to use a buckler. They be lighter and easier to use. Yer armor, I suggest hardened leather or kobold leather. Kobold leather is a wee bit pricier, but ye won¡¯t regret the choice.¡±
¡°Hmm, what makes kobold leather better than hardened leather?¡±
¡°It be a tad tougher, but it also be lighter. Yer movement will be restricted even less by it.¡±
I thought he might be insulting me by bringing out all this light equipment. Though it makes sense since I declared I would be a magic swordsman. I wouldn¡¯t want heavy equipment to weigh me down and interfere with the mixture of spellcasting and swordsmanship.
¡°What is the price of all this equipment?¡±
¡°This iron sword here will be 1 silver and 50 copper, the buckler is 1 silver, the leather armor is 3 silver, and the kobold armor is 5 silver.¡±
¡°I¡¯ll take what you suggest with the Kobold armor. I shouldn¡¯t be sparing expenses when it comes to increasing my fighting capabilities now should I?¡±
¡°Aye, cuttin¡¯ corners will get ye killed.¡±
After buying the armor I proceeded to exit the town through the north gate. Leaving the town was fairly simple, all I had to do was show them my guild card and they easily let me exit the city. It seems to be a universal identification system. It must be some part of the lore for the world.
As I wandered along the path towards the mine, the landscape soon turned from plains to a large forest filled with tall trees. Almost resembling pine trees but much taller. The view was quite realistic, and the smell of the pine trees was quite vivid as well. I usually spend most of my time indoors, so the fact I¡¯m experiencing these sights and sounds of nature is quite interesting.
Brustling is coming from the nearby bushes. Could be some sort of enemy. This must be the first battle of the tutorial! I should ready my stance to get ready for it.
¡°Blaaagh¡±
A disgusting voice came out of a small goblin holding a wooden club and wearing only a loincloth.
¡°Man you think they¡¯d cover you up, or at least the smell coming from you. Just because the game seems realistic doesn¡¯t mean they had to make the creatures so disgusting or their smells so bad¡¡±
Unfortunately, the goblin didn¡¯t give me much time to prepare myself and was already charging at me. He swung his club down at me, but luckily I was able to bring my arm up to block it in time.
¡°Gah! What is this? Why does a goblin hurt so much? More importantly why does this game hurt so much?¡±
I quickly took out my sword and shield and struck back at him. He was able to easily dodge it and hit me in my side. Again a blunt pain impacted my back. I don¡¯t understand why this game hurts so much. Turning around I¡¯m able to block the next attack with my buckler. The club gets deflected shifting it¡¯s trajectory towards the side. Kicking out, I hit the goblin in the stomach forcing him backwards. He stumbles but quickly brings his club back up. Charging in I slash clumsily at him and barely land a scratch on his bicep but stumble from putting too much force into it.
The goblin quickly swings his club at me as I roll to the side to avoid it. Rushing back to my feet I slash at him again. He raises his club to block my slash and it is knocked to the ground. Fear began to form in the goblins eyes.Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
¡°Heh, not so tough without your club are you?¡±
He picked up a small stone nearby and threw it. It hit me in the head causing me to fall the the ground. The last thing I saw was blood dripping into my eyes, and a goblin laughing over my body.
When I came too, I was lying on a bed in a room.
¡°Sigh¡ You¡¯re really weak for a user aren¡¯t you?¡±
The guildmaster, Gilroy, was standing next to my bed with a disappointed look on his face.
¡°And you even came from camelot? I thought all of you were supposed to be strong there?¡±
¡°To be honest, I don¡¯t remember anything before waking up in the town square. Everyone just assumed I came from Camelot, so it seemed convenient to go with at the time.¡±
¡°You were taken out by a single goblin¡ Most F rank adventurer¡¯s have issues with them since they usually travel in groups of 3 or more. Though I heard you only lost to one.¡±
¡°Yeah¡ I really didn¡¯t know what to do I don¡¯t quite remember much¡¡±
It seems like he doesn¡¯t know users are new the the game. It could be that he remembers the beta testers and thinks we should all be caught up with them.
¡°I see. I think it would be best you go through adventurer training. You¡¯ll be assigned to a group and go with them on a mission. They¡¯ll be higher rank so you won¡¯t be in any danger, but they¡¯ll help you and watch you as you try to learn how to be an adventurer.¡±
¡°...Thank you.¡±
¡°We¡¯ll wave the fee for failing since this was your first request, but future requests you¡¯ll have to pay the fee.¡±
¡°Thanks, again. Oh, by the way who saved me from the goblin? I remember waking up being carried on someone''s back after I blacked out, but that¡¯s it.¡±
¡°Oh, it was another user. I didn¡¯t catch his name he left not too long after coming to Jultem.¡±
¡°There was another user here!? He even helped me out¡ I wonder who it was.¡±
¡°I¡¯m sure you¡¯ll meet again one day, for now rest up. Tomorrow you¡¯ll join your group.¡±
¡°What happened to my wounds? I was sure I had suffered injuries from the goblin.¡±
¡°The healer employed with the guild tended to your wounds. Normally this would cost you, but this time it¡¯s on us. Next time don¡¯t lose to a goblin so easily.¡±
A woman dressed in what looked to be a religious habit. The main color was white, but there were hints of red and gold trim and crosses.
¡°Hello, I¡¯m Maria. Don¡¯t worry I¡¯ll make sure your wounds are healed.¡±
¡°T-Thank you.¡±
She was quite beautiful for a nun. Though she couldn¡¯t be more than 15 or 16 years old. I wonder why such a young girl is working as a nun? She began to pray and soon a yellow light started to cover my body.
- Healing Ability I obtained.
Quickly I took out my guild card and began to examine it. What is this? A healing ability? Don¡¯t tell me I¡¯m going to become a healer now because the first ability I¡¯ve seen is a healing ability? All this because I couldn¡¯t defeat a simple goblin. Wait, don¡¯t tell me¡

...Phew. I was afraid I would have gotten the healer class. Looks like I will still be able to choose later, probably at the end of the tutorial. Speaking of which is this supposed to be part of the tutorial? Are they giving me the opportunity to choose from a variety of classes? And who was the other user that saved me? I wish he would have stuck around to give me some more information, especially if he was around during the beta. It sure would have helped a lot.
¡°Sorry, you¡¯re mostly healed now, but I don¡¯t have enough mana yet to continue to heal you. You¡¯ll have to finish healing from rest.¡±
¡°O-Oh. D-don¡¯t worry about it. I¡¯m sure I¡¯ll be fine, thanks for what you¡¯ve done so far.¡±
She seems so kind. Even though she¡¯s done this for nothing, she¡¯s still apologizing to me that she can¡¯t completely heal me. What kind of rough work is the guildmaster putting her through?
¡°You should get some rest yourself if you¡¯ve used all your mana. You¡¯ll need to make sure you have enough if someone more important than me comes in.¡±
¡°It will be fine, my shift ended a while ago already.¡±
She gave me a beaming smile causing me to blush a bit.
¡°In that case, thank you for staying later to heal me. It helped a lot.¡±
¡°It¡¯s not a problem, I just can¡¯t stand to turn away someone who needs help. Well I better get going, it¡¯s getting late.¡±
She proceeded to walk out the door only to turn around and say one last thing.
¡°Try not to get hurt again, but if you do I¡¯ll be around to heal you.¡±
What a nice girl. I wouldn¡¯t mind being treated by her again. Though I don¡¯t think I want to be injured like last time. It might even be worse if it¡¯s something stronger than a goblin¡ I can even imagine the pain. Why did they make the feelings so accurate in this game? Well I guess I better get some rest. Hopefully I¡¯ll be logged out this time...
