《The unfortunate adventure of an unfortunate potato farmer》 Prologue- Potatoes are love potatoes are life The fresh breeze of wind in the morning is the first thing I feel everyday. I wake up, I grab my hoe, some seeds and a boiled potato (sometimes a piece of bread) and leave my small home. This is my, Locke''s, daily routine. I look around and see the same old fields filled with planted potatoes then look towards my right and see old man Martin walking on the dirt path leading to the center of town. I wave towards him and he waves back, just like usual. I then quickly gobble up my potato and carry my hoe towards the untitled parts of my field. The ground is damp, which means it rained last night, so I don''t have to water my other potatoes right now. I start to till the damp ground using the hoe, softening the ground. I repeat this on that same space a few times, until it is soft enough for me to plant potatoes. For most people, farming is tiring work, hence they seek other jobs, but personally, I love farming, especially potatoes. Even though the hoe was heavy at first and I have to water my crops almost everyday, I simply love watching the potatoes I play grow slowly, day by day, it simply gives me pleasure. I continue tilling the rest of the field the same way, though after a while I took break next to my small wooden and plain house, just lying down and staring at the sky. The sky was blue and the shine was shining brightly today, though I could still spot a few clouds around. Staring at the sky relaxes me and makes me want to rest, though as I was lulling myself to sleep, I heard some noise nearby that sounded like metal armor clanking. You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author. At first Ignored it and tried to fall asleep, but I heard a blade being unsheathed. I quickly stood up and reflexively grabbed my hoe. The person holding a sword was heavily armored, iron or maybe even steel armor, though how the hell would I know, I''m a farmer. The person inside the metal suit looks a bit shorter than me, though it seems that they are having no trouble wearing the cumbersome suit of armor. The person then mumbles something quickly, it was too quick and soft to hear properly, so I became confused. Seeing my confused face however, caused the person to raise their sword and point it at me. Seeing the imminent danger I start to break out in cold sweat. I try my best to ready myself and raised my hoe in a defensive position. Shit, What the hell is happening? What the fuck happened to my regular life? What will happen to me now? Who the hell is this guy? Most importantly, what will happen to my potatoes!? ======= Author notes Please alert me in the comments if I made any grammatical intakes , and please wait patiently for more potatoes (chapters) to come. Oh and I will try to improve my writing skills every chapter, though constructive criticism is always welcome. Chapter 1- Broken potatoes Ever have a day wherein you get assaulted by an armored knight while minding your own business? Well, neither have I, until now anyway... Chapter 1- Broken potatoes "Okay, calm down, sir..." I carefully attempt to dissuade the armored man from attacking me. The person inside the suit is still pointing their blade towards me, staring at me from under the faceplate of their helmet. As for me, I''m still holding up my hoe carefully in front of me, so I can at least (somewhat) defend myself. Where the hell are the guards when you actually need a them!? I started to panic while my assailant steps forward VERY slowly. I back away at the same pace they move forward,, currently making this a stalemate. The armored person then suddenly shouted out "Food! Give me food!" In a commanding, yet desperate tone. "If that''s all you wanted then you should have just asked! ten gold for a potato." I reply in a somewhat relieved but firm tone. The knight became dumbstruck and furious,"Give it to me now!" I shrug my shoulders "Hey, no money, no potatoes." The armored man swung his sword sideways and cut the air "I''m sorry but I''ll just have to take it then!" I immediately jump sideways narrowly avoiding the blade, though my side was still grazed. "Guards! Help madman on the loose!" I scream trying to attract attention and help from others, though it seems no one heard it. The knight then swung towards my direction, though I ducked under the swing. It seems that the armor is making their strikes sloppy, though of course they may just be really hungry. As I duck however, pain from the graze somewhat fazes me, a burning sensation starts to make the small wound more painful. "Damn!" I exclaim while I dodge more swings from the mysterious knight. With each swing of the knight''s sword, I get more and more fatigued. I dodge most of them, but I still get grazed by the madman''s flurry. In a stroke of luck, I parry the knight''s sword and reverse our positioning, putting my back towards my small farm. I try to smash the knight''s helmet using my hoe, but he dodged it in the nick of time, though my strike still grazes the helmet''s side. The knight then continued his rapid attacks, once again putting me on the defensive. As I move around, my wounds become more and more painful, the burning sensations become more unbearable, though as I the thoughts of giving up appear in my head, I notice that I have backed into my fields. Unauthorized content usage: if you discover this narrative on Amazon, report the violation. The flurry of poorly aimed attack start hitting some of my potatoes. Paying no heed to this the knight continues to attack and destroys even more. "Damnit, I can''t let my crops get damaged!" I mutter to myself and as I quickly go on the offensive. I swing my hoe''s edged part towards the knight, but it was easily parried. I was able to back step the counter attack, but because of that, the sword hit one of my potatoes. The fact that the knight destroyed many of my crops enraged me even more than before "You''re dead!" With renewed vigor and determination from my rage, I rapidly swing my hoe. Some of my attacks connect but they mostly bounce off the knight''s armor, though with every successful hit I land, he staggers and his armor dents ever so slightly. As I unleash my righteous fury upon the potato killing bastard, I stumbled slightly, allowing the knight to regain his composure. I try to swing my hoe at him once more, but he instantly counters, cutting the handle of my hoe. As the metallic end of the hoe drops to the ground I throw the remaining wooden handle in my hands at his face. He was obviously not expecting that, so he moved slightly to dodge before noticing it was simply a distraction. "Eat this asshole!" I shout as I grab one of the scattered potatoes on the ground and throw it towards him at full force making it splatter all over his face plate. With his vision is hindered, I reclaim the metallic end of the hoe and use it to strike the knight''s head. Even with his helmet, the force of the impact definitely shook him. I strike him once more and he staggers back and falls onto the ground, as he falls however, he swings his sword into the air unfortunately hitting one of my arms. My right arm is completely cut off,and is sent flying from the force of the blow. I stare at it in disbelief and faint before the pain could set in. My last thoughts before I feel my body impact the ground is simply, Wait, did I seriously just loose my arm in the first fucking chapter? Well at least I "won" the fight, I think....... ===== [Author''s notes] Wel here''s chapter one and unfortunately the last chapter.... Just kidding, Please inform me about any grammar mistakes, and please patiently wait for more potatoes(chapters). Sorry for the short chapters by the way, Hopefully the length will also improve as I move on. Chapter 2- Memories of potatoes past Chapter 2- [10 years ago] *thunk**thunk* The sound of me tilling the ground fills up the area. I swing a few more times before I stop, pausing to wipe the sweat from my forehead. "Good job Locke!" Someone behind me then approaches me and pats my head. He has short silver hair and the pupils in his eyes are white, almost indistinguishable from the rest of his eyes. I have the same eyes as him, however, I have Raven black and slightly long hair, almost covering my eyes. He continues to mess up my hair " If you keep this up, you might put me become even better than me at this!" I take his hand of my head and chuckle "Of course I will, I''m going to be the greatest farmer of al time!" He scratches his head and laughs heartily while doing so "That''s my boy! Aim high, and you''ll never go astray!" I smile slightly and continue tilling the hard ground. My dad notices and and does the same, beside me. After a few minutes of tilling, I stop again abruptly. I drop my hoe and sit down on the ground, tired. "Done already?" My dad says. "Well what more can you expect from a 7 year old kid? Go, play with your friends, I''ll finish up here." "No thanks." I swat my hand in the air, as if to swat away the idea. "Well, it''s not as if you have any choice, I think I here your wife calling." My dad laughs and tills the ground one more. "DAD !" I scream "I already told you before, I don''t plan on marrying! I want to be devoted to the crops! And besides, Alice is only my friend!" I say rapidly to try and deny his statement. I then stand up and cross my arms "I don''t even hear anyone calling!" "Locke! Come with me and plaaaaay!" A loud shout interrupted my sentence, as if to dispute it. "Oh I hate my luck...." I sigh and turn around to see a child, around my age. She has long, yellow, almost golden, hair. "Oh, Alice, what a surprise!" I try to look delighted. "Come with me! Let''s go play by the forest!" She spins around with a smile bright enough to awe anyone who sees. I groan and reply "No thanks?" She then puffs up her cheeks s if mad and grabs my hand. Alice is thin, but she is not frail by any means. As proof to this statement, she is dragging me off to the forest by my hand as we speak. You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author. "Bye, dad, I''m going to the forest" I shout towards my father, who is now planting seeds in the newly tilled fields. I see him laugh a bit before he shouts back "Don''t get home too late now!" I then sigh as my cute, but insanely strong friend drags me off to play. <> I see my son get dragged off to the forest by his childhood friend. I laugh and continue to plant seeds in the field. As I continue to place seeds, I can feel my tears well up in the corner of my eyes. I slowly sit down and weep, dropping my bag of seeds to wipe my tears eyes. "I can''t believe it''s already been seven years since then. If only you could see him now my love, he''s grown so much..." I wipe away the remainder of my tears and look up at the sky. "It looks like everything will begin soon, my duty calls." I close my eyes and grimace on what I be required to do later. I stand up and say silently in my heart "I''m sorry Locke, I hope you forgive me one day for this." I sigh and walk towards my house, one last time. <> I return from my exhausting play session with Alice. I see my father''s hoe and some seeds scattered by the field. " Strange, dad doesn''t leave things outside...." I pick them up and return the items to the house. As I enter, I see my dad, dressed in his traveling clothes, while wearing a silver traveling cloak. I tilt my head and ask "Are you going somewhere?" He nods and stands up. I think I can see some tears in his eyes. "Is something wrong?" I ask again while I place his tools into their proper places around our small house. "Nothing''s wrong, Locke. I''ll be back." He says as he leaves the house. "Bye." I weakly say while seeing him depart. As he leaves and closes the door I hear a faint whisper "I''m sorry" Little did I know, that was the last time I would ever see my father. -------- Author''s notes Hello and welcome back to the potato party. First of all I apologize for the delay, at first I forgot I actually posted a story online and then I forgot the password to my account, oh well I remembered. Anyways, as always please stay tuned for more potatoes! (Chapters!) Chapter 3- unexpected potatoes Chapter 3- unexpected potatoes ========= [Present time] <> "So, tell me about the survivor." I ask the mayor sitting by the chair next to the bed where a young man with black hair sleeps. The mayor is dressed in lavish clothes, as befitting of his status. He has gray hair and a wrinkled face. He looks at the sleeping boy then begins to speak "His name is Locke, 17 this year I believe." I glance at the boy and sit on another nearby chair. "You say he survived an attack?" The mayor nods and replies "Yes, but when another villager saw him, he was already like that, and the person in the armor was only a withered corpse." I scratch my head and ask "A corpse? How could a corpse attack someone?" The mayor shrugs his shoulders "I myself do not know, but it''s most likely for the best if we keep some of your men stationed here as garrison." I nod in agreement "You''re right, these are dangerous times." I once again glance at the sleeping boy "Was he always like this?" And pointed to his arm. He shook his head "No, his condition was already like this when he was found." I use my and to stroke my beard "I see... Wait! He''s crying?" I stand up to get a better view, and I see drops of tears flow down his face. The mayor also stands up, but at the same time, The boy starts to move slightly. <> "Weird, what and old memory" I mutter to myself as I wipe of the liquid I feel on my face. I then stop as I notice multiple strange things, One, the bed was too soft. Two, I am using my right arm to wipe my face, that shouldn''t be possible. And three, It''s too bright. I slowly open my eyes to see two men watching me. One of them looks familiar, though the other one is a complete stranger to me. "Mayor Balish..." I call out to the familiar looking man. "Where am I?" I ask while looking around. As I scan the room, I see multiple other beds similar to the one I am currently laying on, though they are empty. "You''re in the healer''s Locke, how do you feel?" The old mayor asks me. "Not too great, my back hurts cause the bed was too soft." The other man then suddenly cut in and starts to question me "You were attacked correct? Can you tell me any details of what happened?" "Yes I was, though who are you?" I then look at the man. He has brown, short hair, and a great beard upon his face. He is in knight''s armor, similar to the knight who attacked me, though his armor is adorned with the likeness of a great red dragon on his chest plate. Stolen story; please report. He smiles slightly as he introduces himself "My name is Daro, a commander in our lord''s grand army. No doubt you have heard of my great feats." I quickly answer "Actually, no, I''ve never heard of you." His face then distorts into an expression of shock "WHAT!? Surely you''ve heard of the hero of the civil war!?" I tilt my head and ask "There was a civil war? When?" The mayor then looks somewhat annoyed and cuts into our conversation "Commander, I think you should be asking him for details?" The prideful commander then says "Oh yes, I probably should." He then coughs and faces me again So can you tel me any details about your attack?" I nod "That day, I was just farming like normal, then that crazy guy just tramples on my fields and threatens me with his sword asking for food. When I tried to charge him for money...." The mayor and commander then interrupt me "Wait, did you just say you charged him for money?" I nod "Yeah, a man has to make a living somehow." The commander then laughs and slaps his knee in amusement "I don''t know if you''re an idiot or just brave, but it''s the first time I''ve heard about someone charging for money while being threatened!" The mayor then sighs and rubs his forehead with his hand "Please continue, Locke." I nod again "So when I asked for some money, he went ballistic. He tried to kill me, though eventually I was able to get a good strike at his head and knock him down." The commander then mutters "I see.... And what happened to your arm?" Having been distracted by the questions I forgot about my arm "Oh yeah, it was cut off when he was falling, it hurt bad." The mayor then shows a concerned face "But Locke, your arm...." He then moves around his arm as if to signal me to move mine. I do so and immediately I realize something is off. After all my right arm is supposed to be gone. I close my eyes and slowly turn my head to the right. When I open my eyes, I see a metallic armor like arm, somewhat shining from the bright lights coming from the open windows. "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIIIIIIS!?" I scream out loud, in surprise. Well, this was certainly unexpected..... ========= Authors notes: Hello and welcome back to the potato party (yay!) Thank you for reading this chapter (even though it''s pretty boring) though don''t worry, I have an exciting(?) event planned for Locke in the next chapter. So as always, please wait patiently for more potatoes! (Chapters!) Chapter 4-Town potatoes Chapter 4- Town potatoes ========= "What the fuck!?" I continue screaming hysterically. "What the hell did you people do to my arm!?" The mayor scratches his head of gray hair while the commander just coughs. After a few moments the mayor Balish finally speaks "Well, when you were found, your arm was already like that.... And even if you said it was cut off, well..." I open and close my right hand for a few moments, then I swing my right arm around to test it. Now that I am aware of it, my new arm feels slightly strange.... It feels a bit heavy on my shoulders and it''s a bit difficult to move it around. I take a few deep breaths then ask "So you just found me with a metal arm? What happened to the guy who almost killed me?" Upon hearing that the mayor looks away and sighs "We found the armor, though what was inside it was.... Just a corpse, though it was as if it had been dead for days now." I scratch my head "That can''t be possible, It moved! And attacked me!" The mayor then looks straight at me "I know, even we don''t know what''s going on right now, though something tells me we might find out soon." To break up the tension built, I laugh and jokingly ask "So is this arm of mine really made out of iron or something now?" I see the commander smile slyly as he quickly unsheaths a hidden knife and swings it at me. I reflexively cover my face and close my eyes, though when the knife made impact, it just snapped, I didn''t even feel a thing on my arm. The commander then says "Harder than iron, boy, though you might want to get that checked, it''s not normal" It cough then reply "No shit it''s not normal." [An hour later] "Aah! Finally, Out of the healers!" I stretch my body and arms outwards as I walk out the door of the hut. The mayor already left earlier, though the prideful commander was still here. I ask him a question before exiting "So how long was I out?" He stands up from the chair he was sitting on and replies "From what I''ve heard, around a day or two." I nod then say "Huh, I see, thanks." Then started to leave. Though before I could, I felt his grip on my left shoulder. "Before you leave, I just have one thing to ask you..." I tilt my head and ask "What?" "We''re your eyes always like that? White pupils and all?" I nod "I got it from my father, he had the same eyes." He breathes out and scratches his bearded chin "I see, be careful now...." Then let''s go of my shoulder. as I step out of the healer''s hut, I see the bustling market place of Arrias town right in front of me, I smile and remember that I haven''t been here for a few months now. The crowds are thick, thick with traders and merchants and also village people who want to buy products. I wade through them, though some people take notice of my arm and stare at me for quite a bit. You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story. Once I made it through the crowded market streets, I see the outline of the Arrias town keep in front of me. The I head towards it because that''s also the direction of where the town''s entrance and exit was. As I slowly make my way to the gate, I spot a small, yet well maintained house to my left, it was Alice''s house. I used to go there quite often when I was a child, but after my father left, I stopped visiting. And also.... Alice is no longer there, around a year after my father disappeared, Alice went missing as well, all traces of her just vanished in one night. What''s worse, it seems that no one, not even her parents could remember her. I stare at the house where I made many good memories before for a few more moments, then I continue on my way to the exit. [Arrias village outskirts] "Finally, back at my shack!" I say to myself as I lie down on my small and hard bed. "Damn, that reminds me, I should really get a new hoe soon...." I mutter to myself as I lay on top of my bed. "Hold up.... Wasn''t dad''s old hoe here somewhere?" I sit up I rummage through my small house, checking every nook and cranny for where my dad''s old tool was at. When I lift my bed, I finally found it. "Damn who knew finding something in this small house would be so annoying?" I grab the handle with my left hand and try to lift it, though It was too heavy for me to carry. I let go, then look at my metallic right hand for a few seconds. I open and close it and decide to try lifting it with my metallic arm instead. I carefully grip it and lift, though this time I was successful. Why is this thing so heavy? I can even feel it''s weight on my metal arm. I think to myself while I sit down on the bed with the hoe still in my hand. I closely inspect it and find that it''s no normal hoe. Instead of a wooden handle, it is made of metal, though what type I could not tell. It also had some strange etchings on the handle and the blade. I try to decipher it, but to no avail, So I give up and just put it down beside the bed for now. "Man, what an impractical hoe, I can''t believe dad actually lifted that thing..." I say to myself while remembering my father farm the fields. As I nearly drift to sleep, I smell something, something was burning. I immediately go outside and see an orange glow coming from the town. I look closer and see that it was indeed a fire, though I could also hear faint screams of people coming from the town. I go back into my shack and slowly lift the heavy hoe and rest its blade on my shoulder. I then take a few deep breaths and start walking to the burning town, what awaits me there, I do not know... ====== Authors notes So, more story building! Though things will finally get heated up in the next chapter, hopefully you guys will enjoy it. Thanks for reading and as always please patiently wait for more potatoes(chapters!) Chapter 5- Hot Potato Chapter 5- Hot Potato I continue to walk to the town, quickening my pace as I approach and notice the intensity and scale of the fiery flames. What''s going on? Asking myself this the whole way back, I finally reach the gate ...You can''t be serious¡ I stood in shock.from the sight, then instantly felt my knees give out as I kneel to the ground and puked in disgust of both the sight and the smell that I had just noticed, naturally dropping my hoe to the ground on my side.. Flames engulfing the houses. Bodies scattered all around. Blood covering almost every other surface not on fire. Some bodies had long spear-looking objects sticking out of them, but all were mutilated and gory beyond recognition. The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation. I look up again after having puked out all the food I hadn''t had the chance to eat. Then, stood before me was a shadowy figure that wasn''t there before, a figure with an intimidating aura that sent chills throughout my body. He was big, bigger than any human I''ve seen. And more importantly, he had a huge ass sword in his hand!!! ¡°Shit!!!¡± I audibly shout as I notice the figure begin to slowly move his sword in a slashing to probably end my life. With that, I hurriedly reach for and grab on to the hoe I had dropped, positioning its length in front of me to hopefully defend me from the incoming blow¡ *FLASH* ¡°AAAAGHHH!!!...Huh?...What the fuck¡¡± I opened my eyes, realizing I¡¯m still laying in my bed. Noticing the hoe still in my hand, I inspect it for damage from the blow I¡¯m sure I tried to stop. To my surprise, there actually was a mark. A crack around the center of its length, presumably where the strike would¡¯ve landed. But what was strange to me wasn¡¯t the crack, but the faint glow it gave out. Though, I didn¡¯t have much time to process what I saw, as the glow suddenly faded, and along with it, the crack. In my hand, was now a perfectly undamaged hoe. ¡°Seriously¡ What the fuck did I do for all of this crap to happen to me¡¡± I let out a sigh. Having resolved myself to believe that my experience wasn¡¯t just a dream. I hurriedly stand up from my bed, making my way out of my house. ¡°Hmmm¡ This might take a while, better take one just in case.¡± I turn to my lone dining table, grabbing a potato from a bowl that I had placed there prior. With that, I once again exit my shack for the second time today.
